- 0:08[SPEAKER_03]: Hello, welcome to my first dungeon.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_03]: The tabletop role-playing podcast that helps game masters learn new games and make each one better than the last.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_03]: My name is Brian Flairady, and I'm joined by the rest of our doomed quartets starting with Elliott Davis.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_03]: Chew, Chew, Chew.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_03]: She annexed this era.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_04]: Hey, guys, it's me.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_04]: Also, we're in the dice pool.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_04]: Splash.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_04]: No, we're not.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_04]: This isn't the dice pool.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, it's gone on the main feed.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_04]: That's a feed, baby.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_03]: It's crazy.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_03]: It's fun.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_03]: But if you want to check out the diespool with some bunch of those actual plays, you can do that by headed to patreon.com slash many sided media right now.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_02]: But before you do that, let me introduce the last person's joining us.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_02]: That is Jay Stroutman.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: Call, call, call.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: Because I was a bird.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_00]: Remember?
- 0:50[SPEAKER_02]: Very good.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_04]: Thanks.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, you know how cockrols go, call.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_04]: cockrols go, call, call.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: It's a name.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_04]: That's true.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_04]: Wait, you just let me edit a mean feed thing.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_04]: That's crazy.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe not anymore.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_04]: No wait, let me do it.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_03]: This is the talk back for our many season of last train to Bremen sponsored by Possum Creek Games and Steve Jackson Games.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_03]: At time of recording, they have more than quadrupled their original funding goal for last train to Bremen.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_03]: So expect you to see this game on yourselves very, very soon.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_03]: And thank you very much to these lovely sponsors for supporting independent podcasting and independent actual play.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_03]: Hell yeah.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_03]: But to kick off this talk back about our game of last train to Bremen, let's sort of off with how do you guys like Bremen?
- 1:43[SPEAKER_04]: It was awesome.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_04]: It was really, really good and had a great time.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_04]: The only thing that would have made it better is if you guys let me be a puppet.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, that would have made it better.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_05]: See, the only thing that would have made it worse for me is if you had been a puppet.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_03]: You know, Shenuk, I'm happy to disappoint you this time.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_03]: Fuck you.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_03]: God damn it.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_05]: He's still got your puppet bits in there.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_05]: There's plenty of puppet bits in there.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_05]: Plenty of puppet bits.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_04]: It could have been way more.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_04]: It could have been ten times the puppet bits.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_00]: They should put that in the rules that you're allowed to play a puppet.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_04]: They should.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_04]: If I have one, it'll be the tone.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_03]: There's not enough puppets.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_03]: We got nasty immediately.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_03]: And this is a game of doomed quartet that are people supposed to be sniping at each other and getting mad.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_03]: But the game got us there.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_03]: So I think we even say it on the podcast like, oh my god, this happened so quick.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_03]: Do you think, do you guess was that us or was that the game?
- 2:46[SPEAKER_00]: No, I mean, I... I admit, I recently played like my first game earlier this year a campaign of something that was a game that very much was an argument generator and I was like, oh, I love this.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: So I will admit that like that aspect of it, I grabbed hold of immediately.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_00]: But it really, it's not, it wasn't hard.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_00]: The game really sets you up to have arguments and to tend to like have like really the kind of dislike for each other that's really under your skin.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_05]: That I thought was really fine.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_05]: The questions and character building just immediately are like, okay, here's seven things you can pull on at any given time.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_03]: It's amazing how quickly this gets not to just like being angry at each other, but to be resentful of each other, which is such like a deep remotion.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_03]: Like that resentment only comes with time, and within a couple of questions, we were like there.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_00]: Also, I have to say as someone who's done a lot of touring with a band, that is a real thing.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: like that is it I feel like most of the work in touring is to kind of like stave off those feelings because you're just with people so so much around people often you don't have time for yourself and like that I don't know if if at any writer and influence came from something like that but man it's it was it was almost shocking how familiar some of these feelings were
- 4:18[SPEAKER_03]: I gotta think it's tough for a band on the road because it's like, yes, you're with these people at the time, but you also don't have a sanctuary with which you can escape to.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: Like, usually not even your bed, you know, has been my experience that like, yeah, it's a blessing in a challenge.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_04]: Mm-hmm.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_04]: It was fun being mean to Brian specifically.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_04]: Thanks buddy.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_05]: Well, I feel like the Hound gets set up for that.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_05]: Like, like, you're the horror, you're the lyricist.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_05]: There's so much like fucking go at you for.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_04]: The question's also set up pretty well of like why we didn't work out and shit.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_05]: PF Changs, beer and sex.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_03]: That's where you food groups.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_03]: That's my favorite line.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_03]: I've maybe ever had on this show.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, Changs, beer and sex.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_03]: Those are the three food groups, my man.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_01]: That's your key.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_01]: Man, that's great.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_05]: Man, oh man.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_05]: I think that one of the things that we did as a group that maybe is I can attribute to us versus the game is we picked up on things to poke at over and over again pretty immediately.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, like your lyric writing the treasure account and bit tax write-offs.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_05]: I was very good.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_05]: Like Cockrolls, solo EP.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_05]: Like there was a lot of things that just like we all were like, this is the thing.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_05]: This is the thing.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_05]: I don't know, you won, shut up.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_05]: No, no, we got it.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, no, your thing was the jet plane.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_03]: The French show, the French show airplane show.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_05]: No, your thing was, I want to be a puppet.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_05]: It was a meta thing.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_03]: And I think the other thing that's interesting about this game, the thing that was most excited about this game when we went into it was using Liars dice as a mechanic.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_03]: which was really cool.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_03]: I was expecting it to be fun and it was even better than I anticipated.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_04]: I want to play Liars Dice every day of my life.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_04]: So the fact that I got that.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_04]: I love Liars Dice.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_04]: It was fucking awesome.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_05]: And I think all of us have played Liars Dice together before.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_00]: No, that was my first time playing with you guys.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_05]: We didn't you didn't play it packs with us?
- 6:36[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_04]: No.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_04]: Jay went home.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_00]: I went home?
- 6:40[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_04]: Wow.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_04]: You were all right.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you're right.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_00]: You're right.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_00]: I was going to be like, you didn't invite me, but I did go.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_00]: You were there.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_05]: Anyway, sorry.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, Liars dice is a fantastic game.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_05]: It also, I'm going to say a stupid.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_05]: Send me pretentious performance thing.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_05]: I feel like I took an acting class in college and one of the exercises we would do is do an activity while you perform a scene like here's a broom and and push the broom while like having an argument with your brother about
- 7:16[SPEAKER_05]: with your brother about like how he slept with your ex or something.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_05]: And it feels like in this game, Liar's dice is that activity that you like keep coming back to and putting your emotions into like so many of the ways we got back into the game and play were like, all right, pick up your dice.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_03]: Let's do it.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_03]: It's also just great to have something that you're just doing.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_03]: It allows you to feel like you're more in the space and especially when something when the space in this game is so evocative and specific, like you are in a box car, you are on your way to hell, but you're on your way to Bremen and you're killing time.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_03]: It's just great to have that thing that you can focus on.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_00]: Also the fact that the mechanic of the game is diagetic, like it.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's not that really got me.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: This is the second time I played this game in the first time we just kind of treated it like it was sort of outside of the game and the like the memories and everything was like was us playing and then the rest of the time was the mechanics of playing with you guys this time.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: it felt it was hard to come out of character because why like there was never an opportunity for us to come out of character.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: We were always even doing the mechanic of the game was my character rolling those dice, which is really cool.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_03]: There was certain point where I was adding the first half of this and there was this long stretch where we were just in character between like rolling the dice and doing stuff and then at some point
- 8:36[SPEAKER_03]: someone like described a character action out of character and I was like whoa like that's the first time that happened in like ten minutes and it felt strange now like it was fun to be like so in the world and all of a sudden someone's like I move a thing and I'm just like whoa wait a minute it's like it's not worthy that it was so jarring to come out of character for a moment
- 9:03[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, the game makes you do the core mechanic as your character.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_04]: Like, that's fucking sick.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's cool.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_04]: You never have to be inspired.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, like you don't like break the world as often as you do sometimes, which was jarring.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_03]: So like looking at the the memories aspect of liars dice and like as you lose a dice each time you are presented with these like prompts for what the memories are.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_03]: How did you guys feel that how effective do you think those prompts were to getting us to like this intense storytelling that we got to in this just short game.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_00]: Super evocative.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_05]: I almost feel like we we played memories a little different than intent, but in a way that I really liked like we didn't we never stepped into a memory fully.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_05]: It was often still like we're sitting in the box car talking about the memory to each other, which I think is different than I've heard other people play this like other people really step into the memory with like
- 10:00[SPEAKER_05]: the smell of a bar and like you know the sound of a crowd and like we it was like very much like a conversational prompt which I really liked I really liked the way that we kind of fell into that because it made it so that like same thing you were saying about getting pulled out because of a moment of action never got pulled out listening to that listening to the episode because
- 10:21[SPEAKER_05]: It was just like we're in a memory like very fluidly from I've lost a die.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_03]: It was also like always contentious.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_03]: Like someone was always saying a memory.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_03]: It was always like, do you remember the time?
- 10:31[SPEAKER_03]: And the other person was always, yeah, wait a minute, asshole.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: That's exactly what I was going to say was that it set the other person up to be like, no, no.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_00]: Let's take a step back.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_03]: Which is great.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_03]: That just means like every memory is just getting us further down the down like the asshole rabbit train as whole train.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_05]: But otherwise, all aboard the S-O-Ravit train.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_03]: But it just got deeper and deeper and more and more resentful so quickly because we weren't flashing to a moment that had to be described.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_03]: We weren't going out of character anyway.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_03]: It was just staying in it.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_04]: Does the game is, does the game like prompt you to do that to like challenge the met like, yeah, it does, right?
- 11:13[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_04]: So that's just forever.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_04]: It's about.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_04]: That's fucking awesome.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_04]: Mm-hmm.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_04]: Like such a good prompts and like sets us up so well to do the just to build resentment and like argument generator.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, just like continuously hate on each other.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_04]: Like I was so mad at Jay.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_05]: Oh my gosh.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_05]: You fucking piece of shit.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_05]: And Jay was particularly nasty.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_00]: I was I really kind of let some stuff go.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for letting me do that.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_00]: I really like you guys.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_00]: I just in that recording.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_00]: I was just like, wow, I'm gonna work through some stuff.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_03]: I love that the challenging memory is such a different take on like so many role-playing games so the the big thing you have to do is yes and it's like the classic improv thing of you know confirm and expand on the what was previously stated.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_03]: This is saying very explicitly like the no but or the like or just no for you.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, the no fuck you.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_03]: But with the idea that like that is not saying what the other person said didn't happen.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_03]: It's that I don't my character doesn't agree with that interpretation of reality.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_03]: So it is still, it is still a yes and, but it's a yes and that is couched in a no but.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_03]: Like the reality is never denied, but the way it happened is denied.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, which honestly like kind of strengthens the reality in that not everyone sees the world the same way.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_03]: Like having two points of view on a similar on the same thing is actually like strengthening what the world is.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_03]: And gives you a real like roushum on vibe.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_00]: It's hard to tell which was right, which is fun.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_05]: No, I think it was obvious it was wrong in this episode.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_05]: It was just kidding.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_05]: No, I was going to say I was going to say Cockroll, Jay is Cockroll.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that's really how I remember it.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_00]: You're fucking slow to hurt you.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_00]: Let's go again.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_00]: Let's do it again.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_04]: One more time.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_00]: Let's see what happens unless I can go.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_04]: I'd replay that right now.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_00]: I would replay it again.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_00]: I've played it twice and I would play it again.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_00]: Even though it happened like the stories the same, it's just all of our, I've just liked to fight with my friends in the safe environment.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_03]: It is interesting that I've heard this from a number of people in this game that they've played it a lot.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_03]: like they've played it a bunch of times.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_03]: A because it's like it's very quick and easy to pick up, but also, yeah, it's very fun even though you're telling a very similar story every time.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_03]: Like you're going to have shades of gray and you're going to have very different justifications for why hound isn't with cat or like why that went wrong or why cockerel is leaving the band or why cockerel is trying to go solo, whatever.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_03]: It'll end up being the same story, but it's kind of that history repeats itself type thing in a way that's still fun to play.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_03]: Just because it is slightly predetermined, doesn't mean that it's not unique every time.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_05]: I also feel like the secret choice is so much of kind of how you end up playing your characters, because you kind of always have that in the back of your mind.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_05]: At some point, I'm going to have to reveal this crazy thing I did or said or what have you.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, we should talk about the secrets and the special abilities that we get.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, because this was a fun thing of just adding a mechanical element to a liar, just like as you lose dice, you are revealing these memories, but also then when you get down to your final dice, you get to reveal this like big game changing secret and then also have a big game changing power.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_03]: And like what were the the big secrets from ours?
- 15:10[SPEAKER_03]: Cockroll it was you had a solo contract with the devil.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_00]: The devil offered me a more lucrative gig, which is wild to give me as an option.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_03]: I had I set the black barn on fire.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_03]: That's great.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_03]: What was yours, Kat?
- 15:26[SPEAKER_03]: I forget.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_04]: Coming up on a real name asshole.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_03]: Sorry, Shenhook.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_05]: Oh my god, my real name asshole.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_03]: That's the, that's the follow-up, too.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_03]: That's the, that's the, critically clony by your name.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_03]: Probably by the.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_04]: Mine was the devil already claimed my soul long before we signed his contract.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_00]: We didn't get to yours, did we?
- 15:48[SPEAKER_00]: Cause you, cause you didn't die.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_04]: That didn't die.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_04]: I was bummed.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_04]: You fucking love the liar's dice.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_04]: You kind of brought it up.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_05]: No, you did get it too.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_05]: You got to use your ability.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_05]: I did.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, right, right, sorry.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_05]: And you use your ability on Brian, which is how you got Brian out.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_03]: Damn.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and then the abilities for this game, like, absolutely changed my secret.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, sorry.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_04]: This is the best talk back because it feels like we're just mad at each other.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_03]: It's still in the old contentious.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we're out of game.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_05]: We're a boss door out of game.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_05]: Oh.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_05]: Oh.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_05]: Mine was I lied about our destination.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_05]: The train isn't going to brim and it's going straight to hell.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's just so much that drastically changes the story so quickly because like you get those first couple rounds of wires dice and like in our case, J, you got out relatively quickly.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_03]: I think you lost two dice and then someone lost one and then you lost your third.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_03]: But like by that time we then had a couple of memories, which were great.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_03]: But then a huge swing of devil has given me a more lucrative contract.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_03]: And then later I'm out of here, like the later phones.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_05]: And then commenting after being taken was fun.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_05]: Like I feel like Jane, I got to do a lot of that because we died.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_03]: Just being like an ethereal presence.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_00]: I think the rules are pretty explicit about doing that, too.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, I think so.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_05]: Especially because then you guys got into a bunch of messy relationships stuff and the two of us just got to be like, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
- 17:42[SPEAKER_05]: Oh yeah, this guy was I'm the best.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_05]: I'm as good as the beetles or I'm better than the beetles lyricist.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_03]: I'm better than the beetles.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_03]: You can be my Yoko Ono to my home.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_03]: Holy.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_03]: Oh my god.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm ready to bully you again.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_03]: I think at a certain point I my mind, I think you can almost hear it in the recording of live.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_03]: I'm playing relatively straight like a normal person and all of a sudden it clicks that like, oh, this guy is the worst person in the whole world.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_03]: And then it's just, okay, get more toxic.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, get more toxic.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, get more toxic.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_05]: The tough thing about Hound is that he's so bad, but he's the only one who doesn't know he's an asshole.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_05]: Which is great.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_05]: That's such a good choice for a character.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, love him.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_04]: So what was upsetting to you all about the puppet?
- 18:43[SPEAKER_05]: I think it would have undercut a lot You know it seems like it seems like the first like this actually I've had this thought recently
- 19:00[SPEAKER_03]: talking about a bunch of role-playing games on like our social media or stuff like that.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_03]: And like every time I'll talk about a new game and someone would be like, hey, what if I did this?
- 19:09[SPEAKER_03]: What if I hacked it this way?
- 19:10[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_03]: It's like wait a minute.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_03]: Why don't you just try it one time regular?
- 19:15[SPEAKER_05]: Just to see how it plays.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_05]: Do the Muppets version.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_03]: No, no.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_03]: It's like tasting the food before you add more salt.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_03]: You're like taste it to see if it needs more salt.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_05]: Because because just like cooking, once you put salt in, you can't take it out.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_05]: Jay for context and for non patrons, we played Fedor noir on our Patreon and it started off just like a Los Angeles S like noir murder like noir murder
- 19:59[SPEAKER_05]: And then at some point Abigail Hepworth gave an NVC of voice that was so Muppet coded that the whole show became the world was half Muppet and there was a guy whose card trunk was full of Muppet hands, but they were like, what?
- 20:16[SPEAKER_05]: Murdering Muppets Muppet?
- 20:17[SPEAKER_05]: It was crazy.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_03]: It became a Muppet murder mystery.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry, what's the problem?
- 20:24[SPEAKER_03]: But a hard R. Well, I just remember being that.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_05]: being in that recording and at one point all of us looking at each other being like can we salvage this and I didn't want to end up there again.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_03]: It was an element of with that one and actually this is where with Bremen it would have worked a little bit better that one we got like
- 20:47[SPEAKER_03]: a third to a half of the way through the game before we realized we were before the first muppet so we had to like back justify everything in this one you know to be fair.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_03]: Shenaq you made the call from from muppet immediately.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_05]: When you were about to read your character intro you were asking because what was the voice you would have done if you were a puppet.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_03]: Oh that's true we never actually see yeah what is it what would it be.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_04]: I don't really look at the intro text again.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_04]: Let me see if I can do you want to take it as the puppet?
- 21:20[SPEAKER_04]: I should get what I was going to read, but let's see.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_04]: I'll just read something from the thing and as a puppet as a not a my first off.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_03]: It wasn't going to be as a puppet.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_03]: It was going to be a puppet.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_03]: You weren't going to be beaker.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but you were going to have a, I assume, higher pitch borderline unlistable voice.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_04]: I remember what I was going to do.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_04]: But if I had to do a puppet voice, it'd probably sound something like, the glamour, the sturdum, your name up in lights.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, man, that maybe.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_05]: I feel so justified in my decision.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_00]: I guess I had this impression that you were like, can I play a puppet?
- 22:00[SPEAKER_00]: And then we said yes.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_00]: And then it would have played it exactly as it did, but just with the knowledge that you were a puppet.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_00]: I guess I didn't think about the fact that you.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think I was, I had an intention of doing a Muppet Voice.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_04]: I think the intention was, I'm a Muppet.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_04]: I talk like this.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_04]: No.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_05]: I just listened to that episode and you take like a deep breath like you're about to do some crazy shit reading your character and then you go, wait, can I be a puppet?
- 22:34[SPEAKER_04]: I was gonna do it normal style.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_04]: I swear I was gonna be normal style.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_04]: Well, fine.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_04]: Let's play this again on the Patreon and I'll play a puppet and we'll see how it goes.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, good call.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_00]: I'm ready.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_00]: Let's do it right now.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_03]: We'll do all puppets.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_05]: Oops, all puppets and one guy.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_04]: Wait, that's funny.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you got to figure out which one is good.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_04]: Wait, that's funny.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_04]: I want to be the guy.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_01]: Now you want to be special.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a guy.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_04]: It is puppets.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_05]: That's so fucking funny.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_05]: Oh man.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_05]: That's so fucking funny.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_05]: Wait, who's the one who signs the contract, the cockroach?
- 23:20[SPEAKER_05]: Cockroya.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_05]: So the cockroach has to be the guy.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_05]: Who signed the contract to bring his puppet ban to life.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_03]: No, no.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_03]: Cockro could be a puppet and there's a guy with a marionette string who was like making his puppet.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sorry.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_00]: Wait, there's guys.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_05]: So the guys goes a layer of like there's three puppets with the time they get sucked into their puppets their souls like oh, that's crazy interesting.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_03]: We didn't read the fine print and we were all guys and then we signed and we get sucked in and now we're puppets and it's like two of the puppets are fucking which is very fun
- 24:04[SPEAKER_03]: All right, we're losing the thread and it's all pulled us back.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sorry.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_03]: No, we honestly we had to all excise that particular demon because otherwise the audience would have been asking forever.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_05]: We have multiple messages in the discord.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_03]: Man, these secret powers, very cool.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_03]: Very strong.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_03]: I do really love how much, especially because LiarStice is such a mini game that you get to play, which is incredibly fun.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_03]: It's great to have games within games, and then all of our powers drastically change the functionality of that game.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_03]: Getting rid of the devil's dice completely changes the game.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_03]: Having the other player play with one die reveal completely changes the game.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_03]: In a way that I was sure I was gonna win when that happened.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_03]: That was ten.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_03]: You got rocked.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_03]: You got rocked.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_05]: So I do an extension of the public conversation that is relevant is how did you guys picture
- 25:08[SPEAKER_05]: your characters because I don't think we did establish anything really about the way they looked.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_05]: Were you animal people?
- 25:16[SPEAKER_05]: Or were you people people?
- 25:18[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I was a person person.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_05]: Really?
- 25:21[SPEAKER_05]: That's crazy because I had a donkey head.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_05]: Same.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_00]: I was a bird.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_00]: I just knew I was a hot bird and that's all I could tell you.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_04]: That was a hot bird.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_04]: I thought it was a person wearing a cat mask.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_05]: That's so funny.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_05]: That's so funny.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_05]: I thought it might be different around, but I fully was like anthropomorphic donkeys.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_00]: Same.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_05]: I get that.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_00]: It kind of gives kiss vibes, you know?
- 25:47[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_05]: Kiss the band?
- 25:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_00]: With like all the characters.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_03]: Right, right, right, right.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_03]: And then the final part of this game, the battle with the devil.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_03]: I think I didn't fully realize as we were playing that Shinook by you like winning so much by you doing well.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_03]: You actually were getting completely screwed for the final fight.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_04]: I know.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_04]: I know.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_04]: That's all.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_04]: I love Lye's dice.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_04]: It's not to punish me for liking the game.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_04]: I'm fucking soft.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_00]: How like life, you know what I mean?
- 26:18[SPEAKER_03]: Much.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_03]: Turns out if you're good at lying, the devil doesn't like that.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_00]: Because that's the devil's game, huh?
- 26:25[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 26:26[SPEAKER_03]: I love so fast that was bullshit.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, there was I remember the moment when I had one of those moments of like producer brain trying to stop player brain because I was watching Brian think about the call whether he was going to call it and then gamer brain was like there's no there's no reason not to call it because Brian has like such a high chance of winning here and then producer brain was like but it'd be pretty cool if we got a couple more scenes
- 27:00[SPEAKER_03]: It is fun.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_03]: It is the three-headed devil thing, especially because we had the dead players giving commentary and then getting sucked into, like, also being the devil, was really fun.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_03]: I think if I, when we play this again, I do want to, I hope to live in that scene for a little bit longer so that we get a little bit more sniping back and forth because the whole thing about it was like,
- 27:24[SPEAKER_03]: Every time the devil takes a die, you're supposed to reveal something.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_03]: And then every time the player takes a die, you're like adding in one extra snipe against one of your former bandmates.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_03]: It's a time for all of the resentments like fully boil over and have those parting shots in a way that I think is really fun.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_00]: I like how the game explicitly says when the devil's give up a die, it says reveal a grievance against the survivor and says specifically make it mean.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_00]: Hell yeah.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_03]: And then with the player, it's like make it petty.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_03]: It's like it's really setting you up for that last confrontation to just hurt.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_03]: Like by the end, it wants the game wants it to hurt.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_03]: And I think it succeeds.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_03]: It fucking gets you there.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_00]: And how?
- 28:15[SPEAKER_03]: And how?
- 28:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we got there.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_00]: We got there.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_05]: I liked some, we did some fun stuff for Brian.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_05]: I feel like you had, we did like a shifting face of the devil thing where like Jay said something about Cockrow's face.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_05]: I said something about Meal's face.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_05]: You described our member like your hands coming out and you leading up and giving him like a dog kiss.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_00]: It was, it was,
- 28:37[SPEAKER_00]: But you were a guy.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_03]: It was it was that cat kissed both mule and cockerel and then like how and tried to pull out like no, no, me me.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_03]: Oh my god.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_03]: It was just like the purist of his energy of like the pick me guy.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_00]: The chick me guy.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_00]: That's such a good way to put it.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_03]: It's a huge fucking bummer.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_05]: I have a fun, so I have a question that I've been curious about because I've been thinking about wanting to play the game again.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_05]: Do you guys know who you would pick if you were to play an additional time?
- 29:11[SPEAKER_05]: And I guess Jay, you're running out of options to get out.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_00]: I played Hound the first time I played it, and I similarly received a lot of shit about it, which was fun to watch someone else go through that.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_00]: And then I just played Cockrell.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_00]: I think I want to play Cat.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_00]: I do want to play them all, but the next time I play this, and I will play it at least four times.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_00]: I'm pretty excited to play them all, but Cat is my next up for me.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_05]: I've heard a whisper that if you play all four, and you tell Caro,
- 29:45[SPEAKER_05]: They have like a...
- 29:47[SPEAKER_05]: Secret, commendation they give you or something like that or like you.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, a reward.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_00]: Now I'm ready.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_03]: He's an unackable.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_03]: Got a hundred percent the game.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_03]: I think I want to be cock-roll.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_03]: I want to just lean into a different type of worst person energy.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_04]: I would definitely play cat again, but if I had to pick someone new, I would pick the hound because I love being made fun of.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_01]: Oh.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_03]: Well, we can do more of that on this show.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_03]: Let's, all right, guys, let's shit on statin on for next five minutes.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_03]: You're wrong.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_04]: You're wrong.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_04]: You're wrong about first.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_04]: Why does that on get so much in this show?
- 30:26[SPEAKER_04]: You're from Ohio.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_04]: Oh yeah, but I fixed it.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_00]: This is regional stuff I don't understand, but I'm laughing long.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_05]: laughs in Canadian.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_05]: I would definitely play the cat.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_05]: I want to be the
- 30:47[SPEAKER_05]: the hot bitch.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're all so good.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_00]: I would play the same character over and over is the thing.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I kind of get that.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_03]: I do think if I played Mule, I would play it almost exactly the way that I let it play it.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, okay.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_03]: You guys don't know what a ride-off is.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_03]: Is absolutely a line I would affect.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_03]: That's exactly that.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_03]: Because I feel like I love playing like
- 31:10[SPEAKER_03]: carried characters like characters who are like frustrated and chill.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_03]: And being the treasurer for a band of assholes is absolutely up that alley.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_03]: I really enjoyed them.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_03]: And it's just a fun game that we can say anything that costs money and just make it vaguely unreasonable and it makes your life worse.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_03]: And we can go all the way up to, you know, plain reality prank show.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_00]: I have to call it engine to the line where you said it's a new plane every week, but it's it was a different the same prank but a new plane every week.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_04]: No, the plane doesn't change.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_04]: It's the interior that changes.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know about that.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_05]: So we're gutting a plane every week.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, yeah.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_00]: Same old Frank brand new Flynn.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_03]: You also pretty immediately called out hot tub plane, which was certainly a choice to create a film in the nineties.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_03]: This would be fun to play in like different eras too.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_03]: I know we kind of stuck very like nineties early odds, but like going to.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_03]: Nineteen twenties or do present day like it just gives that extra little bit of vibe to it.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_03]: Seven in a way.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_03]: Seven.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I was like playing off Mike.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_05]: And I know this does go a little bit against the game, but I would love to just like do some just jump in into memories and.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_05]: giving those some, some living memories.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_03]: It would be a different way to play the game.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_03]: And I think it would be fun to experience, like, let's see the moment of pettiness and then also comment on it.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_03]: It would be fun for us, like, if Ellen, if you and I had a scene as, uh, hound and mule, like to go into it and almost have it, the memory itself be semi-dictated by one of us.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_03]: and then we flash out of it and it's like, no, no, it went this way and you get the rouse from on moment of like rewind and see it again from a different angle.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_03]: That's could be a very different play experience and not necessarily what the text of the game like says few to do, but could be very fun to like play around.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_03]: Could be fun.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_00]: You could kind of draw that out and make it a long like come back for several sessions, which again is not what the game calls for, but you could.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_00]: I just want to spend more time with it.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_00]: But also the fact that he happened so fast is so cool.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_03]: But now that we've played it once, we can add some additional salt because we tasted it.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_03]: So we can add in some puppets.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_03]: We can add three puppets one game.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_00]: So we puppets one game.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen that video, I think.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_05]: It's also like, I wonder if there's a fun game you could play to prequel this game.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_05]: Like if you were, if there's like a good like musician troop game that you could play to like, even further develop the characters or something.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_05]: And none of these ideas are critiques of this because I truly think this is a perfect game.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_04]: This is a perfect game.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_05]: There's not often that I read a TTRBG and I'm like, that's a perfect game and this is a perfect game.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_05]: But just fun twisty ways on repeat plays.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_00]: Would you play this on a road trip emulating a bit of a tour vibe?
- 34:37[SPEAKER_00]: Like I would that make it a little challenging to come off character.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, man.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_05]: I don't know.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_03]: It seems dangerous.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_03]: But there is an element of this game that I was grateful to be playing it remotely so that we could like disconnect.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_03]: I could be like, all right.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_03]: I'm alone now.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_03]: I don't got to be with these fuckers who are fucking up my life.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_04]: Brian, and mean anything I said.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_04]: Except for the public part.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_04]: You told him.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, the public didn't mean, but the stuff I said about you was not real.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_00]: So much fun to play this kind of game with people that you trust because I felt so comfortable being an asshole immediately because I knew that you guys were getting trust me with that and I trusted you to take it and not take anything personally, but I'm interested to do.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_00]: I yeah, of course.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_04]: That's a mistake.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_00]: I'm trying to decide if I would play this with like people I didn't know as well.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_03]: I think I would definitely try it.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_03]: It is there's an element of it.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_03]: Some like there's some things you wouldn't take as far as you do with a game group that you trust more.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_03]: But it is nice that with like the take the turns asking section where you find your characters and with like the prompts for the memories and the secrets and the special abilities.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_03]: It does kind of guide you pretty well on like, hey, if you don't know how far you want to take it, try taking it just this far.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_03]: And it gives you a pretty like good safety rail.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_03]: And it gives you some pretty clear points of where you're going in a way that like, if you're not comfortable playing with strangers, if you've followed kind of like the letter of the law in terms of the rules, you'll probably have a very comfortable experience because you won't be
- 36:33[SPEAKER_05]: There's not a lot of reason for people to deviate too far and like maybe get into uncomfortable spaces because the text of the game is just great and the like chickens in the rules cover all the things that you can go down a road so if you played with strangers and they were like I actually don't want our characters to burn like
- 36:48[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, probably still have a great time.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_00]: I think you would for sure have a great time, but I think for me it was like I certainly it's not that I wouldn't feel comfortable playing this with strangers, but I so much of the joy from this was like doing it with people that I'm close with and like could like you that I could really dig into it.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_00]: Totally.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, really just like say direct in character hurt.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I don't think I would have been as
- 37:13[SPEAKER_04]: Cool if it wasn't Brian playing the house like if it was like oh yeah some random I'd be like I can't I can't say this to this person.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_04]: That's a new person.
- 37:22[SPEAKER_04]: I also didn't think I would have been as toxic Yeah, like I would have maybe told it down a little bit Yeah, I feel like that's like in bears and doing like that's so vulnerable to be like actually I know how to be toxic I actually know to do it really really well I'm I'm so good at being a
- 37:39[SPEAKER_03]: No cat, you should date me.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_03]: I know you said no a lot.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_05]: But I'll wear you down.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_03]: I'll wear you down.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_03]: That's all good romances should go.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_05]: You can't do that.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_05]: Wear her chains.
- 37:54[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, you can't be doing that.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_05]: It was strangers.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_05]: Don't be doing it.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_03]: Very fun to play, especially with people that you're like really comfortable with playing.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_00]: Pretty special.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_03]: Pretty special time.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_03]: As we kind of wind this down, are there any last minute kind of parting thoughts you have about last train to Bremen or things you want to highlight for people who might be thinking about checking out the game?
- 38:16[SPEAKER_03]: If you're not already convinced after hearing our actual player here in the interview, I don't know how else we can convince you, but maybe the four people here can give you one more little parting thought to get you there.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_00]: Something that I experienced playing this for a second time is that like the story ended up very similar almost exactly the same.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_00]: But the characters were a little different and it had this feeling of like revisiting one of my favorite movies, but like catching something new in it.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_00]: And so and that made me really excited to play it again.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_03]: That's really good.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_03]: Wow.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_03]: That's really good.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I just saw someone commented on a post about ten candles and they said something along the lines of like, why would I want to play this?
- 38:57[SPEAKER_03]: I already know what happens.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_03]: Like the characters die at the end and it's like, well, no, like
- 39:02[SPEAKER_03]: We, you know, people, what rewatch movies, they rewatch TV shows, like you know what's gonna happen.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_03]: And even like going into something new like a, if you go to the cinema and see Superman, you know that Superman's gonna win.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_03]: Or you go see a rom-com, you know that they're probably gonna watch the other.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_03]: I haven't seen Superman.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_03]: That's not a spoiler.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_03]: I just assumed that he does Superman.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_03]: But that doesn't take away the joy.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_03]: Like most of the time when we're interacting with a piece of media, there are surprise elements.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_03]: But oftentimes, it's just meeting expectations and enjoying the journey.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_03]: Like playing the second time is just about enjoying the journey.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_05]: Talk about another game that I could play over and over again.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_05]: Ten candles like playing that game twice.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_05]: was like exactly what you're saying, Jay, that feeling of like, oh, I'm comfortable here.
- 39:49[SPEAKER_05]: I love it.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_05]: It's a little different, but I don't know.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_05]: I'd say like I said, Carol made a perfect game.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 39:55[SPEAKER_05]: I don't know that there are many of them out there, but this is certainly one of them.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_05]: And you should not only buy it, but you should play it.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_05]: There's often a thing where you'll buy a game because it's really pretty.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_05]: And here's the thing.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_05]: This game book is gonna be really pretty, but then you should also play it.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_03]: For sure, this game is also just so accessible to start playing.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_03]: There's no character creation, there's no prep from the GM, you sit down, you read the rules, and by the time you're done reading the rules, like a four-th of the queen game or something, you're already playing.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_03]: And if nothing else, you get your play and liars dies.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you've got a mini game.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_03]: Like if at any point you kind of get uncomfortable with like the game or it isn't working for you or whatever, like you can always retreat to just it's liar-stice and let me like play this mini game within it and like answer the problems as we go.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 40:45[SPEAKER_04]: And to give care of more flowers, like the game just makes it seamless to role play.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_04]: Like you don't even know you're role playing half the time.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_04]: Like it's just how good it's done.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_04]: It makes it so easy to just get into your character and be a complete dickhead.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_03]: Like I said earlier, it was jarring the moment in the recording that we weren't role play.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_03]: or like we weren't in character, which is like I've never had that experience before.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_00]: Agreed.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_03]: Good game.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_00]: Good game.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_05]: Good game.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_05]: Good game game.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_00]: Good game good.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_05]: And if nothing else, you have a set of liars dice.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_05]: If you're really not going to listen to me and not play the game, you got a good set of liars dice.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_03]: So you got a cool set of liars dice that you could play whenever.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_00]: Hell yeah.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_00]: Should we sing our song that we've prepared?
- 41:30[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, let me, let me just do an outro of a quick and then we'll get right to it.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_00]: As a band, we've written a little song.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_00]: And it goes a little something, like sorry.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_01]: This is a good band.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_03]: It's a good band until we don't deliver on it.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_03]: No, we're going to sing it now for real.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_03]: Yep.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_03]: No, no, no, no, no.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_03]: All right, just wait till after the credits and then you'll hear our original song from last year in Bremen.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, sorry.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_03]: May the four of us.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_00]: I'm in Bremen.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_03]: Wow, that's a good pull for that.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_03]: And that is all for this episode.
- 42:15[SPEAKER_03]: And indeed, this season of my first dungeon.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_03]: Thanks once again to PossumCreate Games and Steve Jackson Games for sponsoring this very special mini-season.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_02]: And thank you to Kero assertion for talking with us and also just for making this really cool last game.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_02]: Can't not recommend it more highlight.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_03]: At time of recording, it is already well pasted funding goal on Backer Kit by the time this is released, that Backer Kit will have ended, but you still go to Backer Kit and free order this game.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_03]: We're just waiting for it to come to your friendly local gaming source.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure it will be there in the very near future.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_02]: And also, last but not least, thank you to all three of you for playing this game.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_05]: Thanks for being dickheads with you.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_04]: That was great.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was so nice.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_04]: So nice, Jay.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_04]: Thank you for joining us.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_03]: Thank you, Jay.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, thanks for having me any time.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_03]: Of course.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_03]: Last but not least, thank you very much to everyone out there who's listening to this.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_03]: And as always, remember, if you're having fun, you're already doing it right.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_03]: Bye, everybody.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_05]: Bye.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_05]: Bye.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_05]: Bye.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_05]: Bye.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_05]: Bye.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_05]: Bye.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_05]: Bye.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_05]: Bye.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_05]: Bye.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_05]: Bye.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_01]: Bye.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_01]: Bye.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_01]: Bye.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_01]: Bye.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_01]: Bye.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_00]: What?
- 43:45[SPEAKER_00]: You lied to me?
