- 2:20Speaker 3: It's Millie Snyder. You doing, Millie?
- 2:22Speaker 4: Good morning? How are you.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Welcome to the show? Welcome to the new I love this.
- 2:25Speaker 4: I could just sit here and stare. What'd you call it? Simulated?
- 2:30Speaker 3: Genuine, simulated brick? And we say genuine is beautiful as
- 2:34Speaker 3: a nod to one of my favorite shows growing up
- 2:37Speaker 3: Green Acres. You know, a genuine simulated brick?
- 2:41Speaker 2: You know?
- 2:41Speaker 4: I have a shirt from one of the TV shows.
- 2:45Speaker 4: I can't think of it now, but anyway, Oh, Gomer Piles,
- 2:48Speaker 4: not Goomer Piles. Anyway, I'll let's change the subject. I've
- 2:53Speaker 4: lost that thought.
- 2:54Speaker 3: Have you been doing? I'm doing wonderfully well, doing well.
- 2:57Speaker 4: Yes, increasing exercise and people tell me I look good.
- 3:03Speaker 4: That's because I actually live the Mediterranean lifestyle. I don't
- 3:08Speaker 4: just talk about it.
- 3:09Speaker 3: I know I actually do it. Not only what is
- 3:12Speaker 3: the commercial used to say? Not only am I a client,
- 3:15Speaker 3: I'm also a customer. That's what they used to say
- 3:17Speaker 3: and something at one point. Yes, I forgot what it was.
- 3:20Speaker 3: But our brains are not collectively worth the thing that
- 3:23Speaker 3: really is your coffee. Over a little bit there.
- 3:26Speaker 4: I spill it. I'm not going to get a second invatation.
- 3:29Speaker 3: No, it's just I'm just telling you that if you
- 3:30Speaker 3: knock somewhere, you know, knock something over in here, can
- 3:33Speaker 3: ken tennant is not going to be happy because we're
- 3:36Speaker 3: not technically supposed to even have drinks in here.
- 3:38Speaker 4: So yes, I okay, so I will. Now I'm afraid
- 3:42Speaker 4: to move.
- 3:42Speaker 3: I said, as I have my cup of coffee over
- 3:44Speaker 3: here myself, but it's well off into the distance. So
- 3:47Speaker 3: so are we've established that we're both doing well, that
- 3:50Speaker 3: we are. Springtime. You like spring, spring, spring, summer, But I.
- 3:53Speaker 4: Don't like about the sun coming in into my kitchen. See,
- 3:57Speaker 4: I have a a there's a wonderful dog. My daughter's
- 4:00Speaker 4: dog is at my house. So every step she takes,
- 4:04Speaker 4: she leaves leaves fur. Then the sun comes in and
- 4:07Speaker 4: I see fur all over my kitchen. So I am
- 4:10Speaker 4: compelled to get the vacuum and immediately suck it down well,
- 4:15Speaker 4: I mean, and I love the sun, I love the spring.
- 4:18Speaker 3: It could be worse things they would be leaving behind
- 4:20Speaker 3: them besides fur.
- 4:21Speaker 4: Yeah this is true, but no, she's housebroken, thank you.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Speaking of which we're hoping fingers crossed later in the
- 4:30Speaker 3: afternoon show that Amanda Baron and I do, we're going
- 4:34Speaker 3: to get a visit in studio today. The plan is
- 4:38Speaker 3: from Senator Jim Justice and really and possibly baby dog.
- 4:43Speaker 4: Well, that's very studio in this very very exciting. Of course,
- 4:47Speaker 4: I'm more excited that you're going to see baby dog.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe I would.
- 4:52Speaker 4: I don't want to talk politics, but I would love to. However,
- 4:55Speaker 4: I hope that Senator just this will take better care
- 5:02Speaker 4: of his dog because I'm concerned about the dog's weight.
- 5:07Speaker 4: And they say that a dog will have a shorter
- 5:09Speaker 4: lifespan the fattery is and the longer lifespan, the leaner
- 5:15Speaker 4: they are. By the way, that also applies to human beings.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Unsfamiliar and one of the.
- 5:20Speaker 4: Things that really got my attention, but not in a
- 5:23Speaker 4: positive way, in a very angry, negative way, is this
- 5:28Speaker 4: whole thing that went down with fat shaming. Okay, and
- 5:32Speaker 4: there is absolutely no room in this world for that
- 5:37Speaker 4: because every person with a weight problem knows they have
- 5:42Speaker 4: a weight problem. What good possibly can come from someone
- 5:47Speaker 4: saying you're fat, you ought to do something about it.
- 5:52Speaker 4: Everybody with that weight issue knows that.
- 5:55Speaker 3: I'm presuming you're talking about the RFK.
- 5:57Speaker 4: I am indeed talking about that.
- 6:00Speaker 3: It's made toward Governor Morrissey a couple of weeks ago, and.
- 6:04Speaker 4: The governor and that would take a little bit of
- 6:07Speaker 4: time to do. However, all I'm talking about not so
- 6:11Speaker 4: much RFK addressing Morrissey, but that as a general statement,
- 6:17Speaker 4: we need to apply genuine compassion and realize that fat
- 6:22Speaker 4: shaming is not a fix. It's not the antidote. The
- 6:26Speaker 4: antidote is to learn how to eat, and learn how
- 6:30Speaker 4: to eat in a positive way.
- 6:32Speaker 3: I mean, I presume, and I agree with you, I
- 6:34Speaker 3: presume that that would be pretty much the same with
- 6:37Speaker 3: any any bad habit. I mean, if somebody, somebody's had
- 6:40Speaker 3: a little too much to drink in there and there,
- 6:42Speaker 3: as we used to say, pray into the porcelain gods.
- 6:45Speaker 3: You know, you don't need to look at them and
- 6:46Speaker 3: go you really need to stop that. I think they
- 6:48Speaker 3: kind of know that. And the same with with people
- 6:52Speaker 3: that have a little way in the day. And that's
- 6:54Speaker 3: what I like about you. You don't. You preached this
- 6:57Speaker 3: Mediterranean lifestyle and you talk about it, and you offer
- 7:00Speaker 3: the classes, and you've written the books and you've done
- 7:02Speaker 3: all the things over the years. But I've never once
- 7:04Speaker 3: heard you come out and ridicule someone. Your issue is
- 7:11Speaker 3: more with the foods, with the drugs that we're going
- 7:14Speaker 3: to talk about here. Momentarily. I want to, I want
- 7:17Speaker 3: to get into that, but it's not with the individual. No,
- 7:21Speaker 3: it's never okay.
- 7:23Speaker 4: And what a lot of people and I didn't make
- 7:25Speaker 4: it a public thing, but in the forty four years
- 7:27Speaker 4: that I was privileged to be the franchisee for Weight Watchers,
- 7:31Speaker 4: there were many people who physically could not come into
- 7:35Speaker 4: our meeting room. They were home bound and in some
- 7:39Speaker 4: cases stuck in their bed, and I would go to
- 7:43Speaker 4: their house, and we owned in our freight department, because
- 7:47Speaker 4: we did a lot of shipping to various locations a
- 7:50Speaker 4: freight scale, and I would have that freight scale delivered
- 7:53Speaker 4: to that person's home so that we could find out
- 7:57Speaker 4: how much they weighed, and then I would put them
- 8:01Speaker 4: on the then Weight Watchers program. And I had one
- 8:05Speaker 4: lady who lost one hundred and five pounds she could breathe.
- 8:08Speaker 4: I had another person who lost one hundred and ten
- 8:11Speaker 4: and the fact that I would go to their house
- 8:13Speaker 4: and somebody said, oh, I bet you charged them a
- 8:15Speaker 4: lot of money. I didn't. It wasn't about making money.
- 8:19Speaker 4: It was about an outreach of humanity, and I had
- 8:24Speaker 4: success in Logan. I had a gentleman who had also
- 8:28Speaker 4: very very high numbers, and so that freight scale which
- 8:32Speaker 4: was transported down to Logan, we had it in a
- 8:35Speaker 4: separate room because nobody need it to stand there and
- 8:40Speaker 4: gawk and see what those numbers were. So that gives
- 8:44Speaker 4: you something to talk about. The point is there was
- 8:47Speaker 4: an outreach of compassion and help, and if you don't
- 8:51Speaker 4: have anything nice to say, please say nothing. It would
- 8:54Speaker 4: be appreciated.
- 8:55Speaker 3: Do you think that over the last you know, twenty
- 8:58Speaker 3: years or so. And I'm not a big television person
- 9:00Speaker 3: in any way, but especially not a big reality television
- 9:03Speaker 3: do you think that the advent of these shows and
- 9:05Speaker 3: I'm going to get the titles wrong because I'm just
- 9:07Speaker 3: I see them and I scan through my six hundred
- 9:10Speaker 3: pound life or something like that, do you think that
- 9:12Speaker 3: these shows glorify that sort of thing. Do you think
- 9:16Speaker 3: that that that it's vilifies, glorifies whatever.
- 9:22Speaker 4: I would like to think that some people get some
- 9:25Speaker 4: kind of help, but I don't see help coming from that.
- 9:28Speaker 4: I think people glalk and they say, did you see that?
- 9:31Speaker 4: Did you watch that show? I think I watched my
- 9:34Speaker 4: six hundred pound life once.
- 9:35Speaker 3: That's what it's called.
- 9:37Speaker 4: My heart hurt, because that's not living, that's existing.
- 9:42Speaker 3: All right, I'm gonna need you to put the headphones
- 9:44Speaker 3: on because we have a phone call. Good, No, we
- 9:46Speaker 3: have a phone call Ryan. If you're ready, go ahead,
- 9:48Speaker 3: says our friend Jim. Go ahead and put Jim on
- 9:50Speaker 3: the air with us.
- 9:51Speaker 5: Go ahead, Hello, really, hell are you?
- 9:55Speaker 4: I'm fine, Jim? How are you well?
- 9:59Speaker 5: Pretty well? Oh, I'm in a nursing home now. But
- 10:02Speaker 5: I had a question about the Mediterranean and my diabetes. Well, Jim,
- 10:11Speaker 5: is there something that I can do to lower my
- 10:15Speaker 5: blood sugar? Because the best I've been able to do
- 10:19Speaker 5: since I've been in here is two hundred and two
- 10:23Speaker 5: and too it's the kitchen, but I don't know that
- 10:28Speaker 5: for sure.
- 10:29Speaker 4: Well, the nursing home people, first of all, let me
- 10:31Speaker 4: tell you I'm delighted to hear your voice because I
- 10:34Speaker 4: was looking at some old pictures when you used to
- 10:36Speaker 4: come into the Shape Shop, and I wondered where you
- 10:40Speaker 4: were and what you were doing. So I'm really happy
- 10:42Speaker 4: to hear your voice. But your kitchen personnel needs to
- 10:46Speaker 4: get in touch with me, and I would explain to
- 10:50Speaker 4: them what they need to do for you to follow
- 10:53Speaker 4: the Mediterranean lifestyle and what that involves is eating clean food,
- 10:58Speaker 4: nothing with preservatives, and you don't need sugar in anything
- 11:03Speaker 4: because sugar is not our friend. So if you could
- 11:06Speaker 4: get in touch with them to get in touch with me,
- 11:09Speaker 4: I would be delighted to give them some valuable information.
- 11:14Speaker 5: Okay, what's the number that they should contact.
- 11:20Speaker 3: I'll tell you what we'll do. Jim, what we'll do,
- 11:22Speaker 3: I mean, because you don't have the Shape Shop number anymore.
- 11:25Speaker 3: I know I didn't know if you still Okay, we'll
- 11:28Speaker 3: get you the number. How's that, Jim? Will Well, I'll
- 11:31Speaker 3: make sure Ryan gets you the number, or I'll get
- 11:33Speaker 3: to get you the number.
- 11:33Speaker 5: Okay, appreciate it, really take care all right.
- 11:38Speaker 4: Wonderful to hear your voice.
- 11:39Speaker 3: We appreciate it all right. Before we let you go.
- 11:41Speaker 3: By the way, text here says good morning to you
- 11:43Speaker 3: and Millie. Millie is always very inspiring, says a texture,
- 11:47Speaker 3: Thank you very much. All right, So, how's a war
- 11:49Speaker 3: in a pharmaceutical business going.
- 11:51Speaker 4: Oh, it's a war. It's not getting any better. I
- 11:55Speaker 4: have to tell you that people are looking for miracles,
- 11:59Speaker 4: and the miracles need to come from themselves. They need
- 12:01Speaker 4: to learn how to eat, because what we haven't heard
- 12:05Speaker 4: is the stories of how people are suffering from the
- 12:09Speaker 4: after effects or the living effects of these drugs. Of
- 12:15Speaker 4: our current administration is not going to pay for them,
- 12:20Speaker 4: the weight loss drugs, so we're back to square one,
- 12:24Speaker 4: where the people have to pay for them themselves, and
- 12:27Speaker 4: unless the costs have come down, I don't think that
- 12:31Speaker 4: it's going to help anything. But I haven't gotten all
- 12:34Speaker 4: the facts around that particular piece. But the thing that
- 12:38Speaker 4: is very important is any kind of drug to reduce
- 12:43Speaker 4: body weight is not a fix. We need to learn
- 12:46Speaker 4: how to eat, and the Mediterranean lifestyle is the thing
- 12:49Speaker 4: to do. I know you say, oh, well, you know
- 12:52Speaker 4: you're the owner of that. I don't own Mediterranean. Mediterranean
- 12:56Speaker 4: has been around forever. In fact, I think Jesus a
- 13:00Speaker 4: this way. Unless you know what supermarket he went to.
- 13:03Speaker 3: I thought very very good way to put it. By
- 13:06Speaker 3: the way, Textra says, I think you're thinking of hairclub
- 13:08Speaker 3: for men. When we said the line about not only
- 13:11Speaker 3: am I a client, I'm mostly the owner. Not only
- 13:15Speaker 3: i'm the owner, I'm also a client. I think that's
- 13:16Speaker 3: what it was. I appreciate the texture. It was hairclub
- 13:18Speaker 3: for men. Let me finish on this. On the pharmaceutical industry.
- 13:22Speaker 3: Someone in this building I'm not going to mention their name,
- 13:25Speaker 3: but the other day the discussion came up about these
- 13:28Speaker 3: weight loss drugs or simpic and all these other things,
- 13:31Speaker 3: and somebody said, well, my doctor put me on that. Now,
- 13:35Speaker 3: Look I am not you know, when we battled all
- 13:38Speaker 3: this with COVID and battling doctors and battling I'm not
- 13:40Speaker 3: going to get into all that, however, not I mean,
- 13:43Speaker 3: and I have all the respect in the world for
- 13:45Speaker 3: a medical medical community. My sister is a nurse. However,
- 13:48Speaker 3: just because your doctor tells you to do something doesn't
- 13:51Speaker 3: mean it's the right thing. Elvis, a whole lot of
- 13:55Speaker 3: different athletes that are in the ground now because of
- 13:58Speaker 3: the amount of oxy conton that they were given. A
- 14:00Speaker 3: lot of normal people absolutely that we're in the ground
- 14:02Speaker 3: because of oxyconton right now that are so My point
- 14:05Speaker 3: is is just just because the medical community tells you
- 14:07Speaker 3: it's the right thing to do, it may not necessarily
- 14:09Speaker 3: be the right thing to do because they're also in
- 14:12Speaker 3: a business, Dave.
- 14:13Speaker 4: In the years when Fenn Fenn was out, doctors came
- 14:17Speaker 4: out of retirement so they could rehang their shingle so
- 14:20Speaker 4: that they could get in on the money making time
- 14:23Speaker 4: of being able to dispense the pills. It's no different
- 14:26Speaker 4: than prescribing these shots, whether it be Ozembig or Regovi
- 14:33Speaker 4: or I mean there's so many of them there, I
- 14:35Speaker 4: think three or four. The point is if you don't
- 14:39Speaker 4: learn how and what to eat, then you're not going
- 14:43Speaker 4: to make any changes. And there's a new piece of
- 14:45Speaker 4: information this week. And what amazes me every week there's
- 14:50Speaker 4: something new that we need to learn. The information that
- 14:53Speaker 4: I'm going to be sharing in my group this coming
- 14:56Speaker 4: well tomorrow morning on Thursday, is we need to stop
- 14:59Speaker 4: eating processed foods because there's definite research that processed foods
- 15:05Speaker 4: could actually aid and abet dementia. When I was growing up,
- 15:10Speaker 4: I never heard about dementia or Alzheimer's, and I in
- 15:13Speaker 4: no way make light of those problems. But it used
- 15:17Speaker 4: to be called hardening of the arteries.
- 15:19Speaker 3: Yeah, that was the old term. Yeah, or they just
- 15:21Speaker 3: say somebody was senile.
- 15:23Speaker 4: That was they used to use and so processed foods,
- 15:27Speaker 4: things that have chemicals in them. Fast foods that are
- 15:31Speaker 4: so very processed are doing nothing for the quality of
- 15:35Speaker 4: our life. And if a doctor says, well you should
- 15:39Speaker 4: take the shots, the doctor doesn't know any more about
- 15:42Speaker 4: what to do, and chances are he needs to learn
- 15:45Speaker 4: how to eat as well. Or the doctor could be
- 15:47Speaker 4: a she. There are so many people who have serious
- 15:51Speaker 4: weight problems that are degrading the value of their life.
- 15:55Speaker 3: All Right, we got to leave it there. Millie Snyder,
- 15:58Speaker 3: it's always a pleasure. Thank you, sir. Have you on

- 18:18Speaker 3: let's welcome in now Saint Senator out a district for
- 18:21Speaker 3: Republican Amy Nicole Grady, Good morning, Welcome to the show.
- 18:24Speaker 9: Good morning, Dave. Thanks it's going to be back on.
- 18:26Speaker 3: Thank you for being here. Story posted, We'll get right
- 18:29Speaker 3: to it at WV metronews dot com. Yesterday a ceremony
- 18:32Speaker 3: held in Ripley, the governor traveling to Ripley to sign
- 18:36Speaker 3: legislation as it pertains to disruptive kids in the classrooms
- 18:40Speaker 3: and how to deal with them. You are the lead
- 18:42Speaker 3: sponsor of the bill.
- 18:43Speaker 9: Tell us about it, yes, sir, I started. I started
- 18:46Speaker 9: that actually last year and didn't get across the finish
- 18:50Speaker 9: line due to a lot of different circumstances. But we
- 18:53Speaker 9: came up with a better bill this year. And so
- 18:56Speaker 9: this helps teachers in a K through sixth setting to
- 19:01Speaker 9: have more say and whether they feel their classroom is
- 19:03Speaker 9: unsafe because of a student's behavior. We're not talking about
- 19:08Speaker 9: day probably the kind of student you were, you know,
- 19:10Speaker 9: a little squirrely and caused on a little bit of
- 19:13Speaker 9: mischief in the classroom. We're talking about students who really
- 19:18Speaker 9: just show violent behaviors and intimidating behaviors and behaviors that
- 19:23Speaker 9: really do create an unsafe learning space.
- 19:25Speaker 3: And I think and I appreciate you saying that, because again,
- 19:28Speaker 3: old people like me, you know, we sit around and
- 19:30Speaker 3: we go, what do you mean they're they're talking they're
- 19:32Speaker 3: chewing gum, they're you know, they're skipping class occasionally something
- 19:35Speaker 3: like that. There, this is not what you're talking about, Senator.
- 19:40Speaker 9: No, we have we have kindergarteners right now, Dave, that
- 19:42Speaker 9: are throwing chairs across the classroom. We have you know,
- 19:46Speaker 9: little kids seven year old who are punching and hitting
- 19:49Speaker 9: and kicking teachers and other students. And these are the
- 19:54Speaker 9: kind of behaviors we're talking about. You know, when we
- 19:56Speaker 9: did a survey last not this past year, but last year,
- 20:00Speaker 9: the legislature did a survey, the Department of Education at
- 20:02Speaker 9: a survey and the teachers unions all did a survey.
- 20:04Speaker 9: And the results of that survey to teachers with what
- 20:06Speaker 9: would you like to see the legislature deal with the
- 20:09Speaker 9: number one issue? They all said discipline in the classrooms.
- 20:12Speaker 9: And so this is a direct result of what they
- 20:15Speaker 9: asked us to do. And I think it's a really
- 20:17Speaker 9: good bill because it provides some opportunities for these kids
- 20:21Speaker 9: to change their behavior before we remove them from the school, because,
- 20:25Speaker 9: let's face it, we're talking about seven year olds and
- 20:27Speaker 9: they deserve a second chance.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Yeah, and again, this is a major problem. And anytime
- 20:35Speaker 3: that you get political figures, the teachers, unions, everybody on
- 20:38Speaker 3: the same page. You realize what an issue we have,
- 20:41Speaker 3: and we can we can try to break it down
- 20:44Speaker 3: as a societal issue and point fingers and whatever. But
- 20:47Speaker 3: the bottom line, some of you teachers, and as I
- 20:49Speaker 3: said at the top of the show, people know you.
- 20:51Speaker 3: You are a teacher by trade. Some of these teachers
- 20:55Speaker 3: are practically in West Virginia, Senator, going into a war
- 21:00Speaker 3: zone every day.
- 21:01Speaker 9: Oh absolutely. And I can't think of another profession where
- 21:05Speaker 9: you would be expected to allow somebody to beat on
- 21:08Speaker 9: you or hit on you and just just have to
- 21:10Speaker 9: ignore it, you know. And we shouldn't have to as
- 21:13Speaker 9: teachers either. And you know this is the number one driver,
- 21:15Speaker 9: Dave of teachers leaving the profession. It's not the it's
- 21:18Speaker 9: not the salary, it's not the requirements. It is the
- 21:23Speaker 9: fact that we have to deal with behaviors like this,
- 21:25Speaker 9: and it drives more teachers away than keeps them here.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Talking to Senator Amy Nicole Grady the Dave aland showing
- 21:33Speaker 3: five Any Life brought to you inmpired by Morgan to Morgan,
- 21:35Speaker 3: America's largest injury law firm, Injured. This is for thepeople
- 21:38Speaker 3: dot Com Uh, let's talk about the recently wrapped up
- 21:41Speaker 3: session overall your thoughts.
- 21:43Speaker 9: You know, I've heard a lot from people. I felt
- 21:46Speaker 9: like this session was exhausting for a lot of different reasons.
- 21:49Speaker 9: You know, we had a major change in leadership the
- 21:52Speaker 9: Senate body. We had about a third of the members change,
- 21:55Speaker 9: so that changes the makeup and how things work. And
- 21:57Speaker 9: you you know, you're trying to work hard to developed
- 22:00Speaker 9: relationships and also pass legislation, and that makes it a
- 22:02Speaker 9: little bit harder. But I've heard from a lot of
- 22:04Speaker 9: people who have been frustrated and said we didn't get
- 22:06Speaker 9: anything accomplished. And then I've also heard from people who
- 22:09Speaker 9: said they were happy with how session went. I think
- 22:12Speaker 9: what we really mostly did this year were social issues,
- 22:16Speaker 9: and I think in the past we haven't focused much
- 22:18Speaker 9: on those, and so the people that were looking for
- 22:20Speaker 9: social issues were happy with the session, and those who
- 22:23Speaker 9: were looking for more business type legislation felt like we
- 22:27Speaker 9: didn't get anything accomplished. So I think it depends on
- 22:29Speaker 9: your perspective.
- 22:30Speaker 3: We uh, yesterday talked about a little bit on the
- 22:33Speaker 3: show and the group, and I'm not trying to put
- 22:36Speaker 3: pit you against them or anything like that. I'm just
- 22:38Speaker 3: saying it was a statement came out from the group's
- 22:40Speaker 3: Citizens Against Lostity Abuse that simply said worst session ever.
- 22:44Speaker 9: I've heard that. I've seen that on several occasions, and
- 22:47Speaker 9: just like and just like I said, I think it was.
- 22:50Speaker 9: It was. Like I said, it was probably my most
- 22:52Speaker 9: exhausting session. I'll tell you that. But I think it
- 22:54Speaker 9: depends on the perspective it really does. You know, I
- 22:57Speaker 9: always focus a lot on education related issues, and I
- 22:59Speaker 9: feel like we really passed a lot of things that
- 23:02Speaker 9: can help with our education system and protecting our students,
- 23:05Speaker 9: and that I think that's really important. Yeah, we could
- 23:08Speaker 9: have done more business related issues, definitely. We passed the
- 23:11Speaker 9: microgrid bill, which I feel will bring a lot of
- 23:13Speaker 9: businesses in, but we don't. We didn't pass a whole
- 23:18Speaker 9: lot of things business related. So I think that that's
- 23:21Speaker 9: one thing people probably are focusing on that that we're disappointed.
- 23:26Speaker 3: The micro grid bill and this is going to be
- 23:29Speaker 3: broken down, you know over you know, over the next
- 23:31Speaker 3: few years. We're looking at maybe several years before this
- 23:34Speaker 3: even comes into being. I know there are a lot
- 23:36Speaker 3: of UH folks in your district. I know, particularly UH
- 23:40Speaker 3: in your district that are looking they have some projects
- 23:42Speaker 3: in the works on this micro grid bill. Why did
- 23:45Speaker 3: you think it was so with micro grids, I should say,
- 23:48Speaker 3: why did you think this bill was so important?
- 23:49Speaker 2: Senator?
- 23:50Speaker 9: You know, I think those those particular projects were going
- 23:54Speaker 9: to come regardless. But we were listening. I was listening
- 23:58Speaker 9: a lot to the Fidelis group that's coming in Mason County,
- 24:00Speaker 9: and they even said, you know, even though we were
- 24:02Speaker 9: already looking at the property and we pretty much are coming,
- 24:05Speaker 9: we need this legislation to pass in order to make
- 24:07Speaker 9: sure that we can get everything we can. One of
- 24:10Speaker 9: the major issues with it was a lot of the
- 24:12Speaker 9: counties were concerned that there was no funding coming to
- 24:14Speaker 9: the county. So when the bill came to the Senate,
- 24:16Speaker 9: we made sure we changed the revenue that the counties
- 24:19Speaker 9: would actually get some of the funding, which I think
- 24:21Speaker 9: made everybody happy. And you know, it is something that
- 24:23Speaker 9: makes us compete more with Virginia, Pennsylvania, a lot of
- 24:28Speaker 9: states around us that can offer something to bring these
- 24:32Speaker 9: companies here. This puts West Virginia right at the top.
- 24:34Speaker 10: Of the list.
- 24:35Speaker 3: And yeah, and I think it's a good point that
- 24:37Speaker 3: you bring up because some of the counties were worried
- 24:39Speaker 3: about that. There were some county commissioners. I think that
- 24:41Speaker 3: we're spending some late hours at the Capitol doing session,
- 24:44Speaker 3: you know, talking to you folks in the legislature about this.
- 24:46Speaker 3: I know some development authority directors and things of that
- 24:50Speaker 3: nature were little so so you think everybody should be
- 24:52Speaker 3: happy now, Well.
- 24:53Speaker 9: I do think they're happier than they were happier, whether
- 24:56Speaker 9: or not. I never want to say everybody's happy, because
- 24:58Speaker 9: you know that's not true. But but I do know
- 25:00Speaker 9: I was speaking with our county commissioners in my district,
- 25:03Speaker 9: and their number one concern was, you know, the county
- 25:05Speaker 9: deserves revenue from this, and the county deserves to be
- 25:07Speaker 9: able to have some oversight of some kind. And I
- 25:10Speaker 9: think when we changed it in the Senate, I know
- 25:12Speaker 9: I heard from my local county commissioners that they were
- 25:15Speaker 9: a lot happier with how it turned out.
- 25:16Speaker 8: What's going on?
- 25:17Speaker 3: You know of the district that that you serve takes
- 25:20Speaker 3: in a few areas, But I know that you are
- 25:21Speaker 3: a native native of Mason County, So let's talk about
- 25:25Speaker 3: what's going on, particularly in Mason County right now, because
- 25:29Speaker 3: it's been an exciting place in the news a couple
- 25:31Speaker 3: of last couple of years with you mentioned the different
- 25:33Speaker 3: developments and new core and so on and so forth.
- 25:36Speaker 3: What can you tell us about some of the economic
- 25:37Speaker 3: development going on in that area.
- 25:39Speaker 9: You know, it has been exciting. As a matter of fact,
- 25:41Speaker 9: every time we would have something come up and we
- 25:44Speaker 9: would talk about it in a meeting, somebody would say,
- 25:46Speaker 9: and this business is coming to Mason County. You know,
- 25:48Speaker 9: I'd always raise my hand in triumph. But it is
- 25:51Speaker 9: just a very I'm glad everybody's starting businesses are starting
- 25:54Speaker 9: to realize the value of the property and just the
- 25:58Speaker 9: landscape in Mason County, right along the river, we have
- 26:01Speaker 9: railroads everywhere. You know, it's just it's just perfect. We
- 26:04Speaker 9: had newcre come in, Fidelas is going to come in
- 26:06Speaker 9: with up towards north Mason County. We just had another
- 26:10Speaker 9: business say they're coming in as well. And then we
- 26:14Speaker 9: have the Henderson Project, which if you're familiar with Henderson,
- 26:17Speaker 9: West Virginia, it's as soon as you come off the
- 26:19Speaker 9: bridge from Ohio into West Virginia, the first thing you
- 26:23Speaker 9: see is Henderson and it's you know, Henderson was booming
- 26:25Speaker 9: at one time, but it's but it's a rundown. It's
- 26:27Speaker 9: kind of run down now and there's nothing there. There's
- 26:29Speaker 9: some homes there. I don't want to say nothing but
- 26:31Speaker 9: that it's run down and everything's kind of old, and
- 26:35Speaker 9: the development Authority really has a good plan to develop that.
- 26:38Speaker 9: So we passed a bill this year to allow them
- 26:40Speaker 9: to have a stiff district to help with the economic
- 26:43Speaker 9: development the development of that area, to raise it up
- 26:45Speaker 9: above the flood level. And it would be, you know,
- 26:48Speaker 9: kind of like a West Virginia welcome center. As you
- 26:50Speaker 9: come in from Ohio, you're looking right over the bridge
- 26:53Speaker 9: and you'll see hopefully hotels, restaurants and things like that.
- 26:56Speaker 3: Yeah, and I've said this on I think when I've
- 26:59Speaker 3: interviewed you and others from that area. You know, I
- 27:01Speaker 3: lived in Point Pleasant. The first place my wife and
- 27:04Speaker 3: I live when we got married was right in downtown
- 27:06Speaker 3: Point Pleasant. And the Point Pleasant of nineteen ninety two
- 27:12Speaker 3: is not the Point Pleasant of twenty twenty five. There's
- 27:15Speaker 3: been a lot of growth and expansion the downtown there.
- 27:17Speaker 3: I mean, even without New Core and these things in
- 27:19Speaker 3: Apple Grove and around it, I mean in downtown Point Pleasant,
- 27:22Speaker 3: it's kind of I'm not to say it's booming, but
- 27:25Speaker 3: there's a lot of exciting stuff going on there.
- 27:27Speaker 9: You're right, and you know Main Street Point Pleasant is
- 27:30Speaker 9: really booming. We have a lot of really great small
- 27:32Speaker 9: businesses there. If you go in on a Saturday or Sunday,
- 27:35Speaker 9: you'll see tour buses that drop people off there to
- 27:38Speaker 9: the Mothman Museum and the Mothman's Statue. You know, we
- 27:41Speaker 9: just had a gentleman purchase a lot of the buildings
- 27:43Speaker 9: down there to renovate them, including the historic Low Hotel,
- 27:47Speaker 9: to bring things up. And I think there's a there's
- 27:49Speaker 9: gonna be a lot of really great things happening.
- 27:51Speaker 3: All right. Before we let you go, because I know
- 27:53Speaker 3: you're busy, I want to go back to the classroom
- 27:55Speaker 3: for a moment. And this is kind of a generic question,
- 27:59Speaker 3: not related to of any of your things in the
- 28:01Speaker 3: political world, totally unrelated to politics. It is spring, and
- 28:06Speaker 3: I'm not going to call you Senator Grady. I'm going
- 28:08Speaker 3: to call you missus Grady at this point. It is
- 28:11Speaker 3: it's spring. How do you keep kids focused at this point?
- 28:14Speaker 3: Because I remember, I remember what spring was like one
- 28:17Speaker 3: hundred and eighty three years ago, when when I was
- 28:20Speaker 3: a kid of a boy in the school system. And
- 28:22Speaker 3: once that sun starts shining late March early April, you
- 28:26Speaker 3: have state tournaments, which we just had a couple of
- 28:27Speaker 3: weeks ago. It's kind of hard to keep the kids focused.
- 28:30Speaker 3: So what do you do as a teacher to say,
- 28:32Speaker 3: stop looking out the window. We got a few more
- 28:35Speaker 3: weeks or a month or so of this. What do
- 28:37Speaker 3: you do?
- 28:37Speaker 9: You know, some small things that I do is take
- 28:39Speaker 9: them outside for class. My class loves to go outside
- 28:43Speaker 9: for math. We'll go out on the on the concrete
- 28:45Speaker 9: and either use sidewalk chalk or take our dry erase
- 28:48Speaker 9: boards out and have math class outside. And that makes
- 28:50Speaker 9: a huge difference. It gets them, get them away from
- 28:52Speaker 9: feeling cooped up, and then also get them in a
- 28:54Speaker 9: different environment. So that's one thing you can do. I
- 28:57Speaker 9: think making sure they're up and moving, specifically for a
- 28:59Speaker 9: little one is really important because, like you said, they're
- 29:02Speaker 9: getting antsy, and I think maybe the better question is
- 29:05Speaker 9: how do you keep teachers focused? So we're about to
- 29:07Speaker 9: lose it to you know, so we're preparing for that
- 29:10Speaker 9: end of year summative assessment, and that's a lot of
- 29:13Speaker 9: work and a lot of prep and so you know,
- 29:16Speaker 9: teachers also need that little break to go outside and
- 29:18Speaker 9: have a different view than just being inside the four wall.
- 29:21Speaker 3: So number of things, one other thing, and I just
- 29:24Speaker 3: thought of this, I promise I'll let you go. Okay,
- 29:25Speaker 3: all right, So cell phone bill, where are you as
- 29:28Speaker 3: a teacher on that on the cel phone?
- 29:30Speaker 9: When that bill was first introduced, Dave, I was, I was,
- 29:35Speaker 9: I was a trial. I felt about it. Do I
- 29:36Speaker 9: feel like that's a classroom management issue and if it's
- 29:39Speaker 9: an issue in the classroom, the principle should help handle that.
- 29:42Speaker 9: But the more I talk to teachers who teach high schoolers,
- 29:46Speaker 9: they really felt like it was a good bill. And
- 29:47Speaker 9: I sat down with the governor one on one because
- 29:49Speaker 9: I had some concerns about it, and asked him what
- 29:52Speaker 9: his you know, what was the driver for this bill.
- 29:53Speaker 9: I wanted to know, you know, what he was looking for.
- 29:56Speaker 9: And he talked about how he had spoken with other
- 29:59Speaker 9: governors who had implemented this policy across the state and
- 30:03Speaker 9: they said that was the biggest change they saw in
- 30:06Speaker 9: their education of their students. And so that really that
- 30:09Speaker 9: really sealed the deal for me, and I'm excited for it.
- 30:11Speaker 9: I think that we lifted up to the counties to
- 30:13Speaker 9: decide how they will implement it to begin with. But
- 30:17Speaker 9: you know, if that doesn't work and we have to
- 30:18Speaker 9: go into a state wide policy, I guess we'll do that.
- 30:21Speaker 3: I made the prediction a long time ago, Senator. I
- 30:23Speaker 3: think the parents are going to have a whole lot
- 30:24Speaker 3: bigger issue with this than what the kids are.
- 30:27Speaker 9: I think, so Toune. You know, I've watched a segment
- 30:29Speaker 9: on Fox News the other day where it interviewed some
- 30:31Speaker 9: students who were in a state where they had their
- 30:34Speaker 9: cell phones taken away. They had to put them inside
- 30:37Speaker 9: of a pouch or something when they were instructional time,
- 30:39Speaker 9: and the students talked about how they loved it because
- 30:42Speaker 9: it forced them to put their phones down and it
- 30:44Speaker 9: helped them to connect with their peers on a personal
- 30:48Speaker 9: level more than with their phones. And so I think
- 30:50Speaker 9: the kids will probably, like you said, the kids will
- 30:52Speaker 9: probably maybe enjoy it a little more than the parents do.
- 30:56Speaker 3: All right, Senator, get back to it. I appreciate you
- 30:58Speaker 3: being here. We'll talk against it, and thanks a lot.
- 31:01Speaker 3: Twenty two minutes away from ten, yeah, I mean I
- 31:04Speaker 3: had at a few people upset with me, and I
- 31:06Speaker 3: said that a couple of weeks ago. But this whole
- 31:09Speaker 3: cell phone thing in the schools, it's a lot bigger
- 31:11Speaker 3: deal for the parents than it is for the kids.
- 31:13Speaker 3: I mean, And if you do any research on this
- 31:18Speaker 3: and the states that have done similar things, when they
- 31:22Speaker 3: talk to the kids, Once the kids got used to it,
- 31:24Speaker 3: there's a learning curve. The kids were fine with it.
- 31:27Speaker 3: It was mommy and daddy that had the major issue
- 31:29Speaker 3: with it. It wasn't as much the kids as it
- 31:31Speaker 3: was mommy and Daddy because we got to be able
- 31:33Speaker 3: to do connect with our little darlings. You know, they
- 31:36Speaker 3: can't be alone for seven or eight hours in the school.
- 31:38Speaker 3: We got to be able to connect with them. And
- 31:39Speaker 3: it was a bigger, much, much bigger issue with the parents.
- 31:42Speaker 3: And I predict that when this is implemented in West
- 31:47Speaker 3: Virginia schools, once we see what it looks like, I
- 31:50Speaker 3: think mommy and Daddy's going to have a whole lot
- 31:51Speaker 3: bigger issue with it than what the kids do. Let

- 35:07Speaker 3: The two tiered system even applies to dogs of the wealthy,
- 35:10Speaker 3: a test that got a big amen from producer Ryan Nicholson. Well,
- 35:15Speaker 3: let me explain, Okay, the incident and I and I
- 35:20Speaker 3: went a couple of years and I didn't even talk
- 35:22Speaker 3: about the incident. But uh but back back in the day,
- 35:26Speaker 3: two three years ago, Kaitlin Murphy was was producing the
- 35:29Speaker 3: show and on Friday we had at that time it
- 35:31Speaker 3: was Hannah Gardner who's no longer with the Humane Association,
- 35:34Speaker 3: but Hannah would come in the studio and bring and
- 35:37Speaker 3: bring a pet with us that we do on Friday
- 35:39Speaker 3: now we do with Angie Gill and water. They adopt me, please,
- 35:41Speaker 3: pet of the week, and uh so, uh so, uh
- 35:45Speaker 3: Hannah brought the dog in and while we were talking,
- 35:51Speaker 3: this dog on Friday got a little nervous and had
- 35:56Speaker 3: had a little business to take care of on our
- 35:58Speaker 3: on our control room floor. All right. So that led
- 36:01Speaker 3: to the policy, well maybe it's not such a good
- 36:04Speaker 3: idea to bring pets into the studio, which I found
- 36:08Speaker 3: out later was actually already a policy that I was violating.
- 36:12Speaker 3: I didn't know it. It's a story that goes back
- 36:15Speaker 3: a couple of years where Jenny Murray on our sister
- 36:17Speaker 3: station V one hundred did a similar thing and got
- 36:20Speaker 3: bitten by a dog and so a company policy went out,
- 36:23Speaker 3: and I may or may not have ignored the company policy,
- 36:27Speaker 3: but but anyway, so we decided, yeah, probably not a
- 36:30Speaker 3: good idea to bring the pets in the studio.
- 36:32Speaker 8: Now.
- 36:33Speaker 3: The difference with baby dog, and this is in reference
- 36:36Speaker 3: to we are planning, if everything works out okay, to
- 36:38Speaker 3: have Senator Jim Justice in studio in Metro News Midday
- 36:41Speaker 3: coming up later, and we're pretty sure baby dog will
- 36:45Speaker 3: come in as well. Baby dog is trained, Baby dog
- 36:50Speaker 3: has gone to obedient school. Baby dog knows not to
- 36:53Speaker 3: do that. I think that Senator Justice, when he was governor,
- 36:57Speaker 3: probably would not have had the dog on the house
- 36:59Speaker 3: floor if that were an issue. Now I've been proven
- 37:02Speaker 3: wrong before, but as far as I know, that's not
- 37:04Speaker 3: going to be an issue. And if you've spent as
- 37:07Speaker 3: long in radio as I have, I will tell you

- 37:35Speaker 3: for this development project. They can't even buy a new
- 37:38Speaker 3: house with what they are being offered. This reference to
- 37:41Speaker 3: what Cinder Grady and I were talking about, it's interesting that.
- 37:46Speaker 3: I mean, basically, Henderson is a town. And if you're
- 37:49Speaker 3: coming up, let me let's take it from the West
- 37:51Speaker 3: Virginia standpoint. You're coming up thirty five, and on the
- 37:54Speaker 3: old thirty five, which I traveled many many times, Henderson
- 37:58Speaker 3: was the little community that you can men just prior
- 38:00Speaker 3: to point pleasant, probably best known for the McDonald's that
- 38:03Speaker 3: was there in Henderson. And basically the town is being
- 38:06Speaker 3: dissolved for a development project.
- 38:08Speaker 8: Now.
- 38:08Speaker 3: I actually knew some folks that served on the on
- 38:12Speaker 3: the elected officials there in Henderson, and pretty much the
- 38:16Speaker 3: town is no more. Uh So that's kind of kind
- 38:20Speaker 3: of the way it is.
- 38:22Speaker 8: Texas.
- 38:23Speaker 3: Dave's sick and tired of Trump administration criticism of our

- 39:10Speaker 3: I know there's no way, no way, and I just

- 40:12Speaker 3: but we give them the recognition. And we've had some
- 40:15Speaker 3: good stories from around the state of West Virginia. And
- 40:17Speaker 3: uh we've you know, we've had some from Huntington, that
- 40:20Speaker 3: was last week. We've had some from the Eastern Panhandle.
- 40:22Speaker 3: We want this all over the state of West Virginia,
- 40:23Speaker 3: but certainly it can be local stuff to us. I said,

- 45:21Speaker 3: I'm not so sure that Congressman more really cares about

- 48:28Speaker 10: You know, I'd like to talk with him. I'm not
- 48:30Speaker 10: trying to pass judgment. I would like to understand what
- 48:33Speaker 10: he was thinking when he did it. You know, someone
- 48:38Speaker 10: said today in a meeting, reminded them of Lyndy England.
- 48:42Speaker 10: Who was this soldier that did the thumbs up.
- 48:44Speaker 3: I hadn't even thought about that name in a number

- 48:47Speaker 10: Yeah, you can make those parallels if you want. That's
- 48:50Speaker 10: up to the listeners to do.
- 48:52Speaker 3: Look can he do it? Yeah? Should he have done it?
- 48:56Speaker 10: Probably not easy for me to say after the fact,
- 48:59Speaker 10: but I will. A long time ago from the late
- 49:01Speaker 10: great Lacy nep who was a mentor of mine in
- 49:03Speaker 10: this business. He always used to tell me he called
- 49:05Speaker 10: me Carson, he maybe be Carson on the radio. That's
- 49:07Speaker 10: when Carson was big with Carson Daily. So we had
- 49:10Speaker 10: to have our Carson and he used to say cars
- 49:13Speaker 10: went in doubt leave it out.
- 49:15Speaker 3: And I think that might have been like a spur
- 49:19Speaker 3: of the moment type thing, if I mean, because people
- 49:21Speaker 3: do things. Somebody puts a camera or a phone in
- 49:23Speaker 3: your face and you're just I.
- 49:24Speaker 10: Mean, yeah, that's why i'd really like to We're gonna
- 49:28Speaker 10: have to get rightly on he's a regular on Talk
- 49:29Speaker 10: About and just ask him about what his motivation was. Yeah,
- 49:32Speaker 10: you know, the other thing popped into my mind, Dad,
- 49:33Speaker 10: because you know, I'm weird as we all know. Why
- 49:36Speaker 10: are you posting photographs of a prison online for security purposes?
- 49:41Speaker 10: If these are the worst of the worst that we
- 49:43Speaker 10: have there? Granted I don't think they show that much,
