- 2:37Sunny Morning sent you. In local news, two of
- 2:43Massachusetts' largest public media organizations,
- 2:46GBA and New England Public Media, announced plans
- 2:50to merge, aiming to enhance local journalism
- 2:53across the state. The proposed merger would unite
- 2:56GBA, New England Public Media, and Cape and Islands
- 3:00radio station CAI, creating one of the largest
- 3:04and most trusted public media networks in the
- 3:06Commonwealth. according to GBA President and
- 3:09Chief Executive Officer Susan Goldberg. This
- 3:13combined organization intends to boost reporting
- 3:16capacity and expand access to free, fact -based
- 3:19news amid financial challenges facing public
- 3:22media. Goldberg emphasized, simply put, we are
- 3:27stronger together. There will be no changes to
- 3:30memberships and no immediate staff reductions.
- 3:38Now on to sports. The Montreal Canadiens won
- 3:43Game 7, despite registering just nine shots on
- 3:47goal. Alex Newick and Nick Suzuki scored goals,
- 3:51leading the Canadiens to a 2 -1 victory over
- 3:54the favorite Tampa Bay Lightning in the Eastern
- 3:56Conference quarterfinals on Sunday night. Newick
- 4:00netted the winning goal at the 11 -minute and
- 4:027 -second mark of the third period, stunning
- 4:05the hometown crowd. Every game in the series
- 4:08was decided by one goal, with four games going
- 4:11to overtime. Suzuki acknowledged the challenge,
- 4:15stating, It's been a hard series. They made it
- 4:18super difficult on us. In local sports, the Bruins
- 4:23season ended on a sour note Friday, dropping
- 4:264 -1 to Buffalo at home. David Pasternak scored
- 4:31the lone goal as Jeremy Swayman stopped 22 of
- 4:3525 shots. The Sabres' depth and special teams
- 4:39were too much to overcome. Now comes the fallout.
- 4:44Charlie McAvoy faces a six -game suspension for
- 4:47swinging his stick at Zach Benson, likely carrying
- 4:51into next season. McAvoy also revealed he broke
- 4:55his right hand in Game 2 and played the rest
- 4:58of the series in a cast. On a brighter note,
- 5:01rookie James Hagens will represent Team USA at
- 5:05the World Championship in Switzerland starting
- 5:08May 15. Pasternak delivered a clear message to
- 5:13the front office. At nearly 30, he is not interested
- 5:16in wasting time. The team hit 100 points this
- 5:20season but faces major decisions ahead. Meanwhile,
- 5:24the Red Sox dropped their second straight to
- 5:26Houston yesterday, falling 3 -1 at Fenway. Jaron
- 5:32Duran homered and Wilson Contreras went three
- 5:35for four, but it was not enough. Boston sits
- 5:39at 13 -21. Tonight they head to Detroit to face
- 5:44the Tigers at 640, with Peyton Tall starting
- 5:48against ALA's Tarek Skubal. The lineup has been
- 5:52pressing lately, but a road win could spark something.
- 5:56Off the field, interim manager Chad Tracy has
- 5:59benched designated hitter Masataka Yoshida just
- 6:03one start in seven games, a stark shift from
- 6:06his role under Alex Cora. Yoshida remains productive
- 6:10when he plays, hitting .280 with a .750 OPS.
- 6:16In top news, McDonald's is eliminating a popular
- 6:21customer perk nationwide. For many customers,
- 6:25the self -serve soda fountain has long been part
- 6:28of the McDonald's experience. It often began
- 6:31as a small childhood ritual of mixing different
- 6:34sodas into one oversized cup, experimenting with
- 6:38flavors like a makeshift chemistry lab. In 2023,
- 6:42McDonald's confirmed it would transition away
- 6:45from self -serve beverage stations and dining
- 6:47rooms across the United States by 2032. According
- 6:52to the company, the move aims to create a more
- 6:54consistent experience across all ordering channels.
- 6:58Instead of customers pouring their own drinks,
- 7:01employees will use automated beverage systems
- 7:03to prepare orders behind the counter. In business
- 7:08news, Spirit Airlines has ceased operations,
- 7:12marking the industry's first casualty linked
- 7:15to the Iran war. The airline's financial outlook
- 7:18was impacted by a spike in oil prices. Despite
- 7:22a proposal for $500 million in financing for
- 7:2690 % equity, the board could not reach an agreement.
- 7:30The surge in jet fuel prices has derailed Spirit's
- 7:34bankruptcy exit plan, significantly affecting
- 7:36the global airline industry. The collapse will
- 7:40result in thousands of job losses and is a setback
- 7:43for President Donald Trump. who sought to rescue
- 7:46the carrier. As all flights are canceled, rival
- 7:50airlines are expected to benefit. In crypto movement,
- 7:54Bitcoin is up 4 % over the weekend to just under
- 7:58$80 ,000. Ethereum is up 4 % to about $2 ,000.
- 8:04And XRP is up 2 .5 % to $1 .40. Moving on to

- 8:48Hingham, Brookline, and Framingham, just be sure
- 8:52to tell them, sunny morning sent you by. And
- 8:56now, back to the show. Let's talk tech. In theory,
- 9:02using an artificial intelligence model to generate
- 9:05code for your software company seems like a brilliant
- 9:08idea. A ruthless boss could reduce their workforce,
- 9:12saving on salaries and healthcare costs, or keep
- 9:16employees and have them produce more code with
- 9:18the help of artificial intelligence. However,
- 9:22reality is setting in, with businesses facing
- 9:24unexpected expenses for artificial intelligence
- 9:27usage, including one employee spending over $150
- 9:32,000 a month on artificial intelligence tokens.
- 9:36The economics of deploying artificial intelligence
- 9:39coding tools are becoming increasingly questionable.
- 9:43Anthropic recently doubled its estimate for average
- 9:46business spending on its Clawed code tool. And
- 9:52in entertainment news, Netflix's new political
- 9:56thriller, Man on Fire, is set to captivate viewers
- 10:00craving a gripping, adrenaline -fueled binge.
- 10:03The seven -episode series, created by writer
- 10:07and showrunner Kyle Killen, is based on A .J.
- 10:10Quinault's novels. It follows John Creasy, portrayed
- 10:14by Yahya Abdul -Mateen II, a highly regarded
- 10:18Special Forces mercenary who abandoned his former
- 10:20life after a catastrophic mission in Mexico City.
- 10:24Haunted by severe post -traumatic stress disorder,
- 10:28Creasy takes a low -level job in a warehouse,
- 10:31facing his guilt and heavy drinking. His friend
- 10:34Paul Rayburn, played by Body Cannavale, ultimately
- 10:37pulls him back into a high -stakes security detail
- 10:40for Brazil's President Carmo. Well, all righty,
- 10:45folks. It's time for the quote of the day. And
- 10:49today, our quote comes from the American author
- 10:51and humorist Mark Twain. And he said, The secret
- 10:57of getting ahead is getting started. And that's
- 11:01a wrap for this morning. You can check out our
- 11:04Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok for some captivating
- 11:08aerial videos with local news and the weather
- 11:11reports. Have an amazing day, my good friends.
