1:25
brought
1:25

1:30
you
1:31
don't
1:31
want
1:31
to
1:31
keep
1:31
throwing
1:31
that
1:32
thing
1:32

1:37
this
1:37
is
1:37
always
1:37
a
1:38
treat
1:39
when
1:39
I've
1:39
got
1:39
my
1:40
buddy
1:40
Andrew
1:41
Pace.
1:41
Here
1:42
he
1:42
is
1:43
my
1:43
go
1:43
to
1:44
expert
1:44
when
1:44
it
1:45
comes
1:45
to
1:45
green
1:46
building
1:47
materials
1:47
and
1:48
actually
1:48
building
1:48
things
1:49
right.
1:49
So
1:49
the
1:49
house
1:49
doesn't
1:50
make
1:50
you
1:50
sick.
1:51
Andy,
1:52
welcome
1:52
back
1:52
to
1:52
around
1:52
the
1:53
House.
1:53
Brother.
1:53
Eric,
1:54
my
1:54
friend,
1:54
it
1:55
is
1:55
great
1:55
to
1:55
be
1:55
here
1:56
once
1:56
again.
1:57
Oh,
1:57
man.
1:57
You
1:57
and
1:57
I
1:58
are
1:58
gonna
1:58
go
1:58
down
1:58
some
1:58
rabbit
1:59
holes
1:59
here
1:59
and
1:59
maybe
1:59
even
2:00
talk
2:00
some
2:00
liquid
2:01
at
2:01
the
2:01
end
2:01
that
2:01
might
2:01
not
2:02
make
2:02
it
2:02
to
2:02
the
2:02
radio
2:02
show.
2:03
So
2:03
if
2:03
you're
2:04
listening
2:04
on
2:04
the
2:04
radio
2:04
show,
2:05
you'll
2:05
want
2:05
to
2:05
catch
2:05
that
2:05
in
2:06
the
2:06
podcast
2:06
when
2:07
we
2:07
do
2:07
the
2:07
full
2:07
length
2:08
there.
2:08
But
2:08
thanks
2:09
for
2:09
coming
2:09
on,
2:09
man.
2:10
You
2:10
and
2:11
you
2:11
have
2:11
just
2:12
been
2:12
doing
2:12
this
2:13
like
2:13
me,
2:14
I
2:14
think
2:15
since
2:15
the
2:15
beginning
2:16
of
2:16
time.
2:16
And
2:16
this
2:17
is
2:17
just
2:18
your
2:18
jam
2:18
when
2:19
it
2:19
comes
2:19
to
2:19
green
2:20
building
2:20
materials
2:21
and
2:21
building
2:21
a
2:21
house
2:22
that's
2:22
healthy.
2:23
Yeah,
2:23
I
2:23
got
2:24
started
2:24
in
2:24
this
2:24
business
2:25
back
2:25
in
2:25
1989
2:27
in
2:27
construction.
2:29
My
2:29
family
2:29
owned
2:29
a
2:30
commercial
2:30
construction
2:31
material
2:31
supply
2:32
company.
2:32
I
2:32
started
2:32
right
2:33
out
2:33
of
2:33
college
2:34
and
2:34
a
2:34
few
2:34
years
2:35
into
2:35
that
2:36
gig,
2:36
I
2:37
had
2:37
a
2:37
project
2:38
where
2:38
people
2:38
were
2:38
getting
2:39
sick
2:39
on
2:39
the
2:40
job
2:40
site
2:40
because
2:40
of
2:41
the
2:41
building
2:41
materials.
2:42
And
2:42
that's
2:43
it.
2:43
At
2:43
that
2:43
point
2:43
I
2:44
said,
2:44
we
2:44
gotta
2:45
start
2:45
changing
2:45
things.
2:46
And
2:47
I
2:47
wasn't
2:47
gonna
2:48
risk
2:48
a
2:48
70
2:48
year
2:48
old
2:49
history
2:49
of
2:49
my
2:49
family's
2:50
business
2:51
by
2:51
selling
2:51
products
2:52
that
2:52
are
2:52
getting
2:52
people
2:52
sick.
2:53
And
2:53
I
2:53
just
2:54
thought
2:54
it's
2:54
just
2:54
if
2:55
there
2:55
are
2:55
healthier
2:55
materials
2:56
out
2:56
there,
2:56
it's
2:56
gotta
2:57
be
2:57
a
2:57
better
2:57
way
2:57
to
2:57
go.
2:58
And.
2:59
And
2:59
it
2:59
just
2:59
spiraled
3:00
from
3:00
there.
3:00
I
3:00
started
3:01
an
3:01
offshoot
3:01
of
3:01
the
3:01
company
3:02
called
3:02
Green
3:03
Design
3:03
center
3:04
and
3:04
I
3:04
focus
3:05
completely
3:05
on
3:06
the
3:06
health
3:06
of
3:07
the
3:07
occupants
3:07
of
3:08
the
3:08
building.
3:08
Of
3:08
course
3:08
we
3:09
talk
3:09
about
3:10
eco
3:10
friendliness,
3:11
sustainability,
3:12
recyclability,
3:13
energy
3:13
efficiency,
3:14
but
3:14
really
3:15
my
3:15
Focus
3:15
is
3:16
on
3:16
the
3:16
health
3:16
of
3:17
the
3:17
human
3:17
occupants.
3:18
Man,
3:18
that
3:19
is
3:19
perfect.
3:19
And
3:19
you've
3:20
dealt
3:20
with
3:20
what,
3:20
30,
3:21
40,000
3:21
clients
3:22
over
3:22
the
3:22
years?
3:22
I
3:23
bet
3:23
knowing
3:23
you.
3:24
Yeah.
3:24
Somewhere
3:25
about
3:25
33,000
3:26
clients
3:27
now.
3:28
Yeah.
3:28
I
3:29
knew
3:29
it.
3:29
Because
3:29
I
3:29
tell
3:29
you
3:30
what,
3:30
I.
3:30
It's
3:31
funny
3:31
when
3:31
you
3:31
start
3:31
counting
3:32
back,
3:32
because
3:32
I
3:32
started
3:33
just
3:33
after
3:34
you
3:34
did
3:34
doing
3:34
kitchen
3:35
a
3:35
bath
3:35
design
3:35
and
3:36
started
3:36
counting
3:36
clients,
3:36
and
3:37
I'm
3:37
like,
3:38
there's
3:38
a
3:38
lot
3:39
right
3:39
now.
3:40
Except
3:40
my
3:40
clients
3:41
aren't.
3:41
Weren't
3:41
all,
3:41
like,
3:42
giant
3:43
projects.
3:43
It
3:43
could
3:43
have
3:44
been.
3:44
I'm
3:44
helping
3:44
them
3:45
replace
3:45
the
3:46
front
3:46
door,
3:46
I'm
3:46
helping
3:47
them
3:47
replace
3:48
windows,
3:49
or
3:49
choosing
3:49
the
3:49
right
3:50
paint
3:50
for
3:50
a
3:50
project.
3:51
But
3:51
one
3:52
of
3:52
the
3:52
things
3:52
I
3:52
tell
3:52
my
3:53
new
3:53
clients
3:53
is
3:53
that
3:54
I.
3:54
I
3:54
have
3:55
learned
3:55
a
3:55
little
3:55
bit
3:55
of
3:55
something
3:56
from
3:56
every
3:56
one
3:56
of
3:57
my
3:57
clients
3:57
I've
3:57
dealt
3:57
with
3:57
over
3:58
the
3:58
years
3:58
that
3:59
I
3:59
can
3:59
now
3:59
pass
3:59
on
4:00
to
4:00
the
4:00
next.
4:01
And
4:02
so
4:02
anybody
4:03
who's
4:03
out
4:03
there
4:04
saying
4:04
that
4:04
they
4:04
are
4:05
an
4:05
expert
4:06
and
4:06
they
4:06
don't
4:06
need
4:07
to
4:07
learn
4:07
anything
4:07
more
4:08
about
4:08
whatever
4:08
they're
4:09
doing
4:09
is
4:09
completely
4:10
blowing
4:10
smoke.
4:11
Because
4:11
after
4:12
30
4:12
some
4:12
years
4:12
in
4:13
this
4:13
business,
4:13
I
4:13
am
4:13
still
4:14
learning
4:14
things
4:14
new
4:15
every
4:15
single
4:15
day.
4:16
And
4:16
the
4:16
science
4:17
is
4:17
evolving.
4:18
Right.
4:18
All
4:18
of
4:19
a
4:19
sudden
4:19
we're
4:19
like,
4:19
hey,
4:20
this
4:20
is
4:20
the
4:20
greatest
4:21
new
4:21
thing.
4:21
And
4:22
then
4:22
it
4:22
goes
4:22
into
4:23
practical
4:23
use,
4:23
and
4:24
then
4:24
that's
4:25
where
4:25
you
4:25
find
4:25
the
4:25
holes
4:26
in
4:26
that
4:26
and
4:26
go,
4:27
oh,
4:27
we
4:27
didn't
4:28
think
4:28
of
4:28
that
4:28
situation
4:29
or
4:30
however
4:30
that
4:31
works.
4:31
But
4:31
it
4:31
just,
4:32
you
4:32
know,
4:32
we
4:32
get
4:33
better
4:33
at
4:33
things
4:33
and
4:34
materials
4:34
get
4:34
better
4:35
and
4:35
technology
4:36
gets
4:36
better,
4:37
and
4:37
we
4:37
start
4:38
measuring
4:38
things
4:39
more
4:39
and
4:39
realizing
4:39
where
4:40
the
4:40
pitfalls
4:40
are.
4:41
That's
4:41
why
4:41
we
4:42
call
4:42
it
4:42
a
4:42
building
4:42
practice.
4:43
We
4:43
are
4:43
always
4:44
striving
4:44
for
4:44
perfection,
4:45
but
4:45
we
4:45
have
4:45
to
4:45
understand
4:47
that
4:47
perfection,
4:49
by
4:49
whatever
4:49
definition,
4:50
just
4:50
really
4:50
isn't
4:51
necessarily
4:51
possible.
4:52
All
4:53
we
4:53
can
4:53
do
4:53
is
4:53
the
4:54
best
4:54
that
4:54
we
4:55
know
4:55
how
4:55
and
4:56
then
4:56
learn
4:57
from
4:57
either
4:57
our
4:58
mistakes
4:58
or
4:58
learn
4:59
from
4:59
the
5:00
new
5:00
technologies
5:00
that
5:01
come
5:01
out.
5:01
When
5:02
green
5:02
building
5:02
started,
5:03
the
5:03
big
5:03
push
5:04
started
5:04
in
5:04
the
5:05
early
5:05
2000s.
5:06
It
5:07
was
5:07
all
5:07
about
5:07
energy
5:08
efficiency,
5:09
sustainability.
5:10
And
5:10
by
5:10
about
5:11
2010,
5:12
the
5:12
industry
5:13
said,
5:13
wait
5:14
a
5:14
second,
5:15
humans
5:15
live
5:15
inside
5:16
of
5:16
these
5:16
buildings,
5:17
so
5:17
maybe
5:18
we
5:18
should
5:19
think
5:19
about
5:19
that.
5:20
Yeah.
5:21
Oh,
5:21
great
5:22
example.
5:22
There
5:22
was
5:23
a
5:23
cabinet
5:23
line
5:23
here
5:24
that
5:25
was
5:25
made
5:25
in
5:25
my
5:25
Portland
5:26
area
5:26
that
5:26
was
5:26
on
5:27
the
5:27
west
5:27
coast
5:27
that
5:27
they
5:27
were
5:27
shipping
5:28
to,
5:28
and
5:28
they
5:28
were
5:29
making
5:29
cabinetry
5:30
out
5:30
of
5:30
that
5:30
strawboard
5:31
material.
5:32
Yeah,
5:33
it's
5:33
super
5:34
green.
5:34
I
5:34
get
5:35
it.
5:36
But
5:36
getting
5:36
it
5:36
from
5:37
the
5:37
cabinet
5:37
shop
5:38
to
5:38
the
5:38
job
5:39
site
5:40
and
5:40
installed
5:42
was
5:42
the
5:42
hard
5:42
part,
5:42
because
5:43
that
5:43
stuff
5:43
was
5:43
like
5:43
building
5:44
out
5:44
of
5:44
race
5:44
cakes
5:45
if
5:45
you
5:45
bumped
5:46
it.
5:46
I
5:47
had.
5:47
I
5:47
literally
5:48
had
5:48
a
5:48
project
5:48
that
5:49
was
5:49
million
5:49
dollar
5:50
homes
5:50
where
5:50
the
5:50
builder
5:51
called
5:51
up
5:51
and
5:51
said,
5:51
how
5:51
fast
5:52
can
5:52
you
5:52
give
5:52
me
5:52
cabinets?
5:53
I've
5:53
sent
5:53
back
5:54
three
5:54
homes
5:54
because
5:55
we
5:56
had
5:56
cabinet
5:56
boxes
5:57
falling
5:57
apart
5:57
between
5:58
the
5:58
time
5:58
of
5:58
them
5:59
carrying
5:59
it
5:59
from
5:59
the
5:59
garage
6:00
into
6:00
the
6:00
kitchen.
6:01
And
6:01
they
6:01
couldn't
6:02
deal
6:02
with
6:02
it.
6:03
Again,
6:03
the.
6:04
These
6:04
are
6:04
the
6:05
speed
6:05
bumps
6:06
or
6:06
the
6:06
roadblocks
6:06
we
6:07
want
6:07
to
6:07
call
6:07
them,
6:07
that
6:08
we
6:08
all
6:08
have
6:08
to
6:09
deal
6:09
with
6:09
as
6:09
these
6:09
newer
6:10
technologies
6:10
come
6:10
out.
6:11
It's
6:11
really
6:11
the
6:11
unintended
6:12
consequence
6:13
of
6:13
trying
6:13
do
6:13
the
6:14
right
6:14
thing.
6:15
And
6:15
it's
6:16
horrible
6:16
that
6:16
these
6:16
clients
6:17
had
6:17
to
6:17
go
6:17
through
6:17
these
6:18
situations.
6:18
But
6:19
again,
6:19
we
6:19
all
6:20
learned
6:20
from
6:20
those
6:20
things
6:21
and
6:21
said,
6:21
we're
6:21
going
6:21
to
6:22
change
6:22
what
6:22
we
6:22
do
6:22
and
6:22
we're
6:23
going
6:23
to
6:23
make
6:23
things
6:23
better.
6:24
Oh,
6:24
yeah,
6:24
that
6:24
was
6:24
15,
6:25
17
6:25
years
6:25
ago.
6:26
So
6:26
it
6:26
was
6:26
a
6:26
while
6:26
back.
6:27
But
6:27
you'll
6:27
learn
6:28
those
6:28
things,
6:28
and
6:28
it's
6:29
for
6:29
sure.
6:29
And
6:30
you
6:30
and
6:30
I
6:30
were
6:30
talking.
6:31
It's
6:31
one
6:31
of
6:31
the
6:31
things
6:31
that
6:31
I'm
6:31
noticing
6:32
here.
6:32
And
6:33
I'm
6:33
in
6:33
Portland,
6:33
Oregon,
6:34
for
6:34
the
6:34
people
6:34
just
6:34
tuning
6:35
in.
6:35
You're
6:36
out
6:36
in
6:36
the
6:36
Midwest,
6:37
out
6:37
that
6:37
way.
6:38
And
6:38
one
6:39
thing
6:39
I've
6:39
noticed
6:39
here
6:40
and
6:40
is
6:41
we've
6:41
got
6:41
an
6:42
interesting
6:42
climate
6:42
here
6:43
in
6:43
the
6:43
Portland
6:43
metro
6:44
area.
6:44
We've
6:44
got
6:45
probably
6:46
October
6:47
through
6:48
June
6:48
is
6:48
our
6:49
rainy
6:49
season,
6:50
and
6:50
then
6:51
the
6:51
rest
6:51
of
6:51
the
6:51
year
6:51
it's
6:52
pretty
6:52
dry
6:53
and
6:53
not
6:53
humid.
6:54
But
6:54
the
6:54
problem
6:55
is
6:55
that
6:55
we
6:55
have
6:56
building
6:57
code
6:57
here
6:58
that
6:58
is
6:58
the
6:59
same
6:59
across
6:59
the
6:59
country
7:00
that
7:01
really
7:01
is
7:02
missing
7:02
the
7:02
boat
7:03
on
7:04
building
7:04
science
7:05
right
7:05
now.
7:06
They
7:06
have
7:06
just
7:07
not
7:07
kept
7:07
up.
7:08
And
7:08
I'm
7:08
watching
7:09
homes
7:09
being
7:10
built
7:10
in
7:11
my
7:11
neighborhood
7:11
here
7:12
that
7:12
are
7:12
one
7:12
to
7:12
$5
7:13
million
7:13
homes.
7:15
And
7:16
the
7:16
house
7:16
wrap
7:17
is
7:18
incorrectly
7:19
installed.
7:20
The
7:20
flashing
7:20
is
7:21
wrong.
7:22
And
7:22
I'm
7:22
driving
7:22
by
7:23
these
7:23
homes.
7:23
There's
7:24
four
7:24
in
7:24
my
7:24
neighborhood
7:25
with
7:25
one
7:25
builder
7:26
that
7:27
I'm
7:27
looking
7:27
at
7:27
it
7:27
going,
7:28
if
7:28
that
7:28
sighting
7:29
lasts
7:30
five
7:30
years,
7:31
here's
7:32
what
7:32
they're
7:32
doing.
7:32
They're
7:33
wrapping
7:34
poorly,
7:34
the
7:35
entire
7:35
house
7:36
with
7:36
Tyvek.
7:37
They're
7:37
installing
7:38
on
7:38
it
7:38
battens
7:39
going
7:39
down
7:40
every
7:41
12
7:41
inches
7:41
or
7:41
so
7:42
that
7:42
are
7:43
nailed
7:43
into
7:43
the
7:43
OSB
7:45
through
7:45
that
7:45
so
7:46
they
7:46
can
7:46
keep
7:46
an
7:46
air
7:47
gap
7:47
in
7:47
there
7:47
between
7:47
the
7:48
siding
7:49
and
7:49
the
7:49
Tyvek.
7:50
And
7:50
then
7:50
when
7:51
they're
7:51
putting
7:51
the
7:51
windows
7:52
in,
7:53
they've
7:54
got
7:54
the
7:54
openings
7:55
framed
7:55
up.
7:55
Of
7:55
course,
7:55
they're
7:56
wrapping
7:56
the
7:56
Tyvek
7:57
in,
7:58
but
7:58
then
7:58
they
7:58
install
7:59
the
7:59
windows
7:59
and
7:59
flash
8:00
over
8:00
that.
8:01
So
8:01
the
8:01
flashing
8:02
is
8:02
trying
8:02
to
8:02
stick
8:03
to
8:03
the
8:03
Tyvek
8:04
and
8:04
not
8:04
to
8:05
the
8:05
wood
8:05
underneath
8:05
it.
8:06
And
8:06
then
8:06
they're
8:07
not
8:07
even
8:07
taping
8:08
the
8:08
seams
8:08
on
8:08
the
8:09
Tyvek
8:09
with
8:09
the
8:09
Tyvek
8:10
tape.
8:10
And
8:11
I'm
8:11
looking
8:11
at
8:12
this
8:12
going,
8:13
that's
8:13
a
8:13
problem.
8:14
And
8:14
then
8:14
up
8:15
the
8:15
street
8:15
on
8:16
the
8:16
Exact
8:16
opposite.
8:17
On
8:17
a
8:17
Habitat
8:18
for
8:18
Humanity
8:18
house,
8:19
they've
8:20
got
8:20
some
8:20
black
8:21
liquid
8:22
membrane
8:22
that
8:22
it
8:22
looks
8:23
like
8:23
they.
8:23
I
8:23
know
8:24
they
8:24
didn't
8:24
tar
8:24
the
8:24
outside
8:25
of
8:25
the
8:25
house,
8:25
but
8:25
it
8:25
has
8:26
that
8:26
appearance
8:26
for
8:26
the
8:27
unknown
8:28
person.
8:28
Because
8:28
I
8:28
had
8:28
two
8:29
or
8:29
three
8:29
people
8:29
call
8:30
me
8:30
up
8:30
that
8:30
are
8:30
buddies,
8:30
that
8:31
are
8:31
realtors
8:31
that
8:31
went,
8:32
what
8:32
are
8:33
they
8:33
putting
8:33
on
8:33
the
8:33
outside
8:33
of
8:33
that?
8:34
And
8:34
I
8:34
go,
8:34
it's
8:34
a
8:34
liquid
8:34
applied
8:35
membrane.
8:35
At
8:35
least
8:35
you're
8:36
not
8:36
going
8:36
to
8:36
get
8:36
water
8:36
through
8:37
it.
8:37
But
8:37
it
8:37
does
8:37
probably
8:38
cause
8:38
potentially
8:39
other
8:39
issues
8:40
if
8:40
you
8:41
didn't
8:41
take
8:41
that
8:41
into
8:41
account
8:42
in
8:42
the
8:42
building
8:42
sites.
8:43
Yeah.
8:43
And
8:43
so
8:44
this
8:44
is
8:44
where
8:44
building
8:45
science
8:46
and
8:46
common
8:47
sense
8:47
kind
8:47
of
8:47
start
8:48
butting
8:48
heads.
8:48
Right.
8:49
Everybody
8:50
heard
8:50
that
8:50
old
8:50
adage,
8:51
a
8:51
home
8:51
needs
8:51
to
8:52
breathe.
8:52
Well,
8:53
in
8:53
reality,
8:54
the
8:54
occupants
8:55
of
8:55
the
8:55
home
8:55
need
8:56
to
8:56
breathe.
8:57
The
8:57
home
8:57
could
8:58
care
8:58
less.
8:59
But
8:59
what
9:00
I
9:00
do
9:00
agree
9:00
with
9:01
is
9:02
the
9:03
wall
9:03
assembly
9:04
needs
9:04
to
9:05
be
9:05
able
9:05
to
9:06
release
9:07
moisture
9:08
in
9:08
both
9:09
directions.
9:10
And
9:10
so
9:10
when
9:11
we
9:11
talk
9:11
about
9:11
breathability
9:12
from
9:12
that
9:12
standpoint,
9:13
we're
9:13
talking
9:13
about
9:13
moisture
9:14
release,
9:14
we're
9:15
not
9:15
talking
9:15
about
9:15
air.
9:16
So
9:16
I
9:17
love
9:17
the
9:17
concept
9:17
of
9:18
using
9:19
this,
9:19
whatever
9:20
liquid
9:20
applied
9:21
membrane
9:22
to
9:22
keep
9:22
water
9:23
from
9:23
coming
9:23
in
9:23
to
9:24
try
9:24
to
9:24
seal
9:24
up
9:24
all
9:24
little
9:25
holes
9:25
that
9:25
air
9:25
could
9:25
come
9:26
in.
9:26
Because
9:26
if
9:26
air
9:27
can
9:27
come
9:27
in,
9:27
so
9:27
can
9:28
moisture
9:28
and
9:28
mold
9:29
and
9:29
insects
9:29
and
9:30
so
9:30
forth.
9:31
But
9:31
then
9:31
what
9:31
happens
9:32
is
9:32
during
9:33
construction,
9:34
when
9:34
the
9:35
windows
9:35
haven't
9:35
been
9:35
installed
9:36
yet
9:36
and
9:36
the
9:37
home
9:37
really
9:37
isn't
9:37
dried
9:38
in
9:38
completely,
9:39
you're
9:39
getting
9:39
all
9:39
this
9:40
moisture
9:40
that's
9:40
getting
9:41
into
9:41
that
9:41
cavity
9:42
wall.
9:42
First
9:43
nice
9:43
day
9:43
they
9:43
have,
9:44
they
9:44
button
9:44
it
9:44
up,
9:45
they
9:45
start
9:45
doing
9:45
insulation
9:46
and
9:46
drywall,
9:46
and
9:47
then
9:47
you
9:47
have
9:47
moisture
9:47
in
9:47
that
9:48
cavity
9:48
wall
9:48
that
9:48
needs
9:49
to
9:49
come
9:49
out.
9:50
Common
9:51
thinking
9:51
amongst
9:52
the
9:52
industry
9:53
is
9:53
once
9:53
you
9:53
have
9:54
your
9:54
H
9:54
Vac
9:55
on,
9:55
it's
9:56
going
9:56
to
9:56
start
9:56
to
9:56
dry
9:56
out
9:57
on
9:57
its
9:57
own.
9:58
But
9:58
how
9:59
long
9:59
does
9:59
that
9:59
take?
10:00
And
10:00
will
10:00
it
10:00
take
10:01
six
10:01
months,
10:02
six
10:02
years?
10:03
Never.
10:04
And
10:04
then
10:05
this
10:05
is
10:05
when
10:05
you
10:05
have
10:06
mold
10:06
starting
10:06
to
10:06
develop
10:07
in
10:07
walls.
10:07
And
10:07
this
10:07
is
10:07
why
10:08
the
10:09
estimate
10:09
is
10:11
around
10:11
50%
10:12
of
10:12
all
10:12
homes
10:14
in
10:14
this
10:15
country
10:15
have
10:16
mold
10:16
and
10:17
or
10:17
moisture
10:18
issues.
10:19
That's
10:19
a
10:19
very
10:19
conservative
10:20
estimate.
10:21
There
10:21
are
10:21
now
10:22
research
10:22
going
10:23
into
10:24
the
10:24
whole
10:24
mold
10:24
mitigation
10:25
issue
10:26
showing
10:26
that
10:27
it's
10:27
more
10:27
along
10:28
the
10:28
lines
10:28
of
10:28
70
10:28
to
10:29
80%
10:29
of
10:29
homes.
11:55
Wow,
11:56
that's
11:56
huge.
11:57
And
11:58
it's
11:58
even
11:58
more
11:58
so
11:59
here.
11:59
And
11:59
I've
11:59
told
12:00
this
12:00
story
12:00
to
12:00
you
12:01
a
12:01
couple
12:01
times
12:01
on
12:01
the
12:02
show,
12:02
but
12:02
when
12:03
I
12:03
was
12:03
in
12:03
Seattle
12:03
as
12:04
a
12:04
kitchen
12:04
designer,
12:04
I
12:05
was
12:05
up
12:05
on
12:05
the
12:05
east
12:05
side,
12:06
north
12:06
of
12:06
Bellevue
12:07
in
12:07
the
12:07
Kirkland
12:07
Redmond
12:08
area
12:08
up
12:08
there,
12:09
million
12:09
dollar
12:10
homes
12:10
back
12:10
then,
12:10
and
12:11
this
12:11
was
12:11
15,
12:11
17
12:12
years
12:12
ago,
12:12
when
12:13
you're
12:13
in
12:13
that
12:13
rainy
12:14
season
12:14
that
12:14
I
12:14
just
12:14
described,
12:16
you
12:16
can
12:16
have
12:16
an
12:16
inch
12:16
and
12:16
a
12:17
half
12:17
or
12:17
two
12:17
inches
12:17
of
12:17
rain
12:18
easily
12:18
on
12:19
a
12:19
day.
12:19
They
12:19
were
12:20
framing
12:20
this
12:20
million
12:21
dollar
12:21
home
12:21
up.
12:22
They
12:22
were.
12:22
There
12:23
was
12:23
OSB
12:24
on
12:24
the
12:24
roof.
12:25
They
12:25
were
12:25
doing
12:26
interior
12:26
framing.
12:27
They
12:27
hadn't
12:27
dried
12:28
it
12:28
in
12:28
yet.
12:28
It
12:29
was
12:29
dumping
12:30
rain.
12:30
I
12:30
go
12:31
walk
12:31
in
12:31
to
12:31
see
12:31
if
12:31
this
12:32
thing
12:32
is
12:32
ready
12:32
to
12:32
measure
12:33
walls
12:33
for
12:33
cabinetry.
12:35
I
12:35
step
12:36
in,
12:36
you
12:37
know,
12:37
because
12:37
they
12:37
haven't
12:37
cut
12:38
out
12:38
the
12:38
sill
12:38
plate.
12:38
So
12:39
there's
12:39
an
12:39
inch
12:39
and
12:39
a
12:40
half
12:40
of
12:40
water
12:40
sitting
12:41
there
12:41
on
12:41
the
12:41
floor
12:42
that
12:42
the
12:43
osb,
12:43
everything
12:44
gets
12:44
soaked.
12:45
Now
12:45
when
12:45
I
12:46
look
12:46
up,
12:46
there's
12:46
this
12:46
really
12:47
cool
12:47
balcony
12:47
above
12:48
me
12:48
with
12:48
this
12:48
kind
12:48
of
12:49
circular
12:49
staircase
12:50
going
12:50
up
12:50
to
12:50
it.
12:50
And
12:51
it
12:51
was
12:51
a
12:51
water
12:52
feature
12:52
because
12:52
there
12:53
was
12:53
a
12:53
railing
12:54
going
12:54
to
12:54
go
12:54
there.
12:55
So
12:55
all
12:55
the
12:55
water
12:56
on
12:56
the
12:56
second
12:56
floor
12:57
was
12:57
running
12:58
off
12:58
like
12:59
it
12:59
was
12:59
a
13:00
water
13:00
display
13:00
at
13:01
a
13:01
hotel.
13:01
Yep.
13:03
Now
13:03
the
13:03
scary
13:04
part
13:04
was
13:04
the
13:05
framers
13:05
in
13:06
there
13:06
that
13:06
had
13:06
the,
13:07
they
13:08
had
13:08
all
13:08
of
13:08
their
13:08
electrical
13:09
cords
13:09
going
13:09
through
13:10
that.
13:10
And
13:10
there
13:10
was
13:10
a
13:10
guy
13:10
standing
13:11
out
13:11
at
13:11
the
13:11
GFCI
13:12
at
13:12
the
13:12
temp
13:12
pole
13:13
going,
13:13
they'd
13:14
go
13:14
power
13:14
and
13:14
eat
13:14
at
13:15
the
13:15
reset
13:15
about
13:15
every
13:16
60
13:16
to
13:16
70
13:16
seconds.
13:17
And
13:18
I'm
13:18
like,
13:18
I'm
13:18
not
13:18
dying
13:19
in
13:19
this
13:19
house.
13:19
And
13:19
so
13:20
I
13:20
got
13:20
out
13:20
of
13:20
there.
13:21
But
13:21
the
13:21
problem
13:22
was
13:22
nobody
13:23
around
13:23
here,
13:23
especially
13:24
in
13:24
my
13:24
area
13:25
I
13:26
can
13:26
have.
13:26
And
13:27
I
13:27
see
13:27
this
13:27
more
13:27
with
13:27
plywood
13:28
but
13:28
I'll
13:28
see
13:29
homes
13:29
that
13:30
are
13:30
two
13:30
or
13:30
three
13:30
stories
13:31
or
13:31
even
13:31
worse
13:32
mixed
13:33
use
13:33
buildings
13:33
that
13:33
are
13:33
stick
13:34
frame
13:34
that
13:34
are
13:34
four
13:34
or
13:35
five
13:35
stories
13:35
and
13:36
by
13:36
the
13:36
time
13:36
they're
13:36
done
13:37
at
13:37
the
13:37
top,
13:38
the
13:38
black
13:40
drywall,
13:40
the
13:40
black,
13:41
not
13:41
drywall
13:42
but
13:42
the
13:42
black
13:42
sheeting,
13:43
the
13:43
black
13:43
studs
13:44
is
13:44
disgusting.
13:46
And
13:46
nothing
13:46
happens.
13:47
They
13:47
just
13:47
put
13:47
building
13:48
wrap
13:48
around
13:48
it
13:49
and
13:49
keep
13:49
going.
13:50
And
13:50
so
13:51
much
13:51
so
13:51
I'm
13:51
seeing
13:51
at
13:52
the
13:52
home
13:52
centers
13:53
now.
13:54
I
13:54
put
13:54
this
13:54
up
13:54
on
13:55
social
13:55
media
13:55
this
13:56
last
13:56
fall
13:57
I
13:57
walked
13:57
into
13:57
my
13:58
local
13:58
Lowe's
13:58
store,
13:59
sorry
13:59
Lowe's.
14:00
And
14:01
the
14:01
two
14:01
by
14:01
fours
14:02
have
14:03
an
14:03
extra
14:03
quarter
14:04
inch
14:04
of
14:04
white
14:05
fungus
14:05
growing
14:05
on
14:06
them.
14:07
And
14:07
people
14:07
are
14:07
loading
14:07
them
14:08
up
14:08
and
14:08
there's
14:08
black
14:09
spots
14:09
all
14:09
over
14:09
everything
14:10
because
14:11
they're
14:11
bringing
14:11
in
14:12
all
14:12
this
14:12
non
14:13
kiln
14:13
dried
14:13
lumber
14:14
into
14:14
a
14:14
building
14:16
that's
14:16
been.
14:16
And
14:16
it's
14:16
been
14:16
sitting
14:17
out
14:17
wrapped
14:17
in
14:17
plastic
14:18
out
14:18
in
14:18
the
14:18
heat
14:19
and
14:19
it
14:19
comes
14:19
inside
14:20
and
14:20
it's
14:20
the
14:21
perfect
14:22
growing
14:22
for
14:23
molds.
14:23
And
14:24
all
14:24
these
14:24
two
14:24
by
14:24
fours
14:25
are
14:25
going
14:25
out
14:25
the
14:25
door
14:26
that
14:26
are
14:26
just
14:27
looking
14:27
like
14:27
a
14:28
petri
14:28
dish.
14:28
And
14:28
it's.
14:29
We
14:29
got
14:29
a
14:29
problem
14:30
guys.
14:30
And
14:31
that's
14:31
just
14:31
getting
14:31
the
14:31
building
14:32
materials
14:32
to
14:32
the
14:32
job
14:33
site.
14:33
That's
14:33
true.
14:34
And
14:34
so
14:35
it
14:35
all
14:35
starts
14:36
with
14:36
Most
14:36
of
14:37
the
14:37
producers
14:38
that
14:38
I
14:38
know
14:38
of,
14:39
let's
14:40
take
14:40
like
14:40
a
14:40
company
14:40
like
14:40
Sierra
14:41
Pacific,
14:42
do
14:42
a
14:43
absolutely
14:43
wonderful
14:44
job
14:44
with
14:45
kiln
14:45
drying
14:45
down
14:46
to
14:46
the
14:46
perfect
14:47
percentage.
14:48
But
14:48
then
14:48
it
14:48
gets
14:49
put
14:49
onto
14:50
large
14:51
rail
14:51
cars.
14:52
They
14:53
wrap
14:53
it
14:54
and
14:54
then
14:54
ship
14:54
it
14:55
gets
14:56
to
14:56
the
14:56
lumber
14:56
yard.
14:56
It's
14:57
sitting
14:57
outside
14:58
at
14:58
a
14:58
large
14:58
distribution
14:59
plant.
14:59
It
14:59
probably
15:00
gets
15:00
some
15:00
tears
15:00
in
15:01
the
15:01
plastic
15:01
during
15:01
the
15:02
day.
15:03
And
15:03
then
15:03
you
15:03
have
15:04
people
15:04
who
15:04
are
15:04
pulling
15:05
boards
15:05
off
15:05
of
15:06
there
15:06
after
15:07
tearing
15:07
the
15:07
plastic.
15:08
And
15:09
so
15:09
part
15:09
of
15:09
it's
15:09
open
15:10
and
15:10
so
15:11
then
15:11
you
15:11
get
15:11
water,
15:12
sun,
15:12
water,
15:13
sun,
15:13
water,
15:13
sun.
15:14
And
15:14
eventually
15:15
it's.
15:15
You
15:15
start
15:15
to
15:15
grow
15:16
mold
15:17
on
15:17
the
15:17
surfaces.
15:18
It
15:19
starts
15:20
way
15:20
back
15:20
when
15:20
at
15:21
the
15:21
distribution
15:22
level.
15:23
Now
15:23
in
15:23
my
15:23
situation,
15:24
I
15:24
have
15:24
projects
15:24
all
15:25
around
15:25
the
15:25
country
15:25
and
15:26
we
15:26
write
15:26
into
15:26
the
15:26
contract
15:27
that
15:28
all
15:28
lumber
15:28
has
15:29
to
15:29
be
15:29
inspected
15:30
either
15:30
before
15:31
delivery
15:31
at
15:31
the
15:31
lumberyard
15:32
or
15:32
upon
15:33
delivery.
15:33
And
15:33
we
15:34
have
15:34
the
15:34
right
15:34
of
15:34
refusal.
15:35
The
15:35
problem
15:35
is
15:36
when
15:37
it's
15:37
the
15:37
middle
15:37
of
15:37
summer
15:38
and
15:39
everybody's
15:39
projects
15:40
are
15:40
going
15:40
nuts,
15:41
the
15:41
lumber
15:41
yard
15:42
would
15:42
say,
15:42
okay,
15:42
we
15:42
can
15:43
bring
15:43
back
15:43
another
15:43
load.
15:44
It
15:44
may
15:44
be
15:44
a
15:44
few
15:44
days
15:46
and
15:46
I
15:46
don't
15:46
know
15:46
if
15:46
the
15:47
wood's
15:47
going
15:47
to
15:47
be
15:47
any
15:47
better.
15:48
Yeah.
15:49
So
15:50
we
15:50
are
15:51
in
15:51
the
15:51
process
15:51
right
15:51
now
15:52
of
15:52
developing
15:53
protocols
15:54
for
15:54
what
15:54
do
15:54
you
15:54
do
15:55
with
15:55
this,
15:55
how
15:55
do
15:55
you
15:56
treat
15:56
it?
15:56
There
15:57
are
15:57
ways
15:57
to
15:58
still
15:59
be
15:59
able
15:59
to
15:59
use
15:59
most
16:00
of
16:00
that
16:00
lumber
16:00
by
16:01
treating
16:01
it
16:01
with
16:02
very
16:02
safe
16:03
coatings
16:03
and
16:04
sealers
16:04
and
16:04
so
16:04
forth
16:05
that
16:05
would
16:05
care
16:05
of
16:05
the
16:05
problem.
16:06
But
16:06
again,
16:07
it
16:07
adds
16:07
time,
16:07
it
16:08
adds
16:08
cost.
16:09
On
16:09
the
16:09
other
16:09
hand,
16:10
there's
16:10
so
16:11
many
16:12
parts
16:12
of
16:12
the
16:12
equation
16:13
have
16:13
just
16:13
been
16:14
left
16:14
off
16:15
throughout
16:15
the
16:16
process.
16:17
Every
16:17
step
16:17
of
16:17
the
16:17
way
16:18
just
16:18
doesn't
16:18
have
16:18
the
16:19
same
16:19
level
16:19
of
16:19
care
16:20
the
16:20
way
16:20
they
16:21
used
16:21
to.
16:21
And
16:21
we're
16:22
so
16:23
accustomed
16:23
to
16:23
the
16:24
I
16:25
need
16:25
products
16:25
cheap
16:26
and
16:26
fast
16:26
and
16:26
whenever
16:27
I
16:27
need
16:27
it.
16:27
And
16:28
so
16:28
everything's
16:29
always
16:29
an
16:29
emergency.
16:31
We
16:31
just
16:31
don't
16:32
build
16:32
into
16:32
projects
16:33
anymore.
16:33
The
16:33
time
16:34
it
16:34
takes
16:34
to
16:34
actually
16:35
go
16:35
through
16:36
these
16:36
items
16:36
and
16:37
make
16:37
sure
16:37
that
16:37
they're
16:37
safe
16:38
before
16:38
we
16:38
start
16:38
using
16:39
them.
16:39
Yeah,
16:39
I'm
16:40
seeing
16:40
a
16:40
trend
16:40
here
16:41
because
16:41
I
16:41
am
16:41
a
16:41
moisture
16:42
area
16:42
at
16:42
least
16:43
six
16:43
months
16:43
out
16:44
of
16:44
the
16:44
year.
16:44
And
16:45
then
16:45
our
16:45
coastal
16:45
communities.
16:46
I
16:46
can
16:46
beat
16:47
the
16:47
coast
16:47
at
16:47
the
16:47
beach
16:47
house
16:48
an
16:48
hour
16:48
and
16:49
20
16:49
minutes
16:49
from
16:49
my
16:49
place.
16:50
But
16:50
I'm
16:51
seeing
16:51
a
16:51
trend
16:51
now
16:51
in
16:52
the
16:52
home
16:52
centers
16:52
that
16:52
they're
16:53
bringing
16:53
in
16:53
green
16:53
non
16:54
killed
16:54
dried
16:54
lumber.
16:55
Wow.
16:55
And
16:56
again,
16:56
another
16:57
issue
16:57
with
16:57
that
16:58
because.
16:59
And
16:59
the
16:59
argument
17:00
is
17:00
that
17:01
one,
17:01
I
17:01
think
17:01
that
17:01
they
17:02
have
17:02
less
17:02
warping
17:03
issues
17:03
because
17:03
it's
17:04
still
17:04
staying
17:04
humid,
17:05
and
17:06
two,
17:06
if
17:06
it
17:07
goes
17:07
out
17:07
to
17:07
the
17:07
coast,
17:08
it's
17:08
not
17:08
sucking
17:09
up
17:09
all
17:09
this
17:09
moisture
17:10
and
17:10
dimensionally
17:10
changing
17:11
as
17:11
well,
17:11
and
17:12
so
17:12
there's
17:13
some
17:13
serious
17:13
issues
17:14
with
17:14
that.
17:14
But
17:14
I
17:15
agree.
17:15
I
17:15
can
17:15
drive
17:16
around
17:16
here
17:16
in
17:17
February
17:18
and
17:18
see
17:19
apartment
17:20
buildings,
17:21
luxury
17:21
homes,
17:22
and
17:23
I
17:23
can
17:23
drive
17:24
by
17:24
and
17:24
just
17:24
shake
17:25
my
17:25
head
17:25
because
17:25
everything
17:26
is
17:26
black
17:27
and
17:27
gray
17:27
streaked
17:28
on
17:28
it.
17:28
And
17:29
it
17:29
doesn't
17:29
matter
17:29
if
17:30
it's
17:30
OSB
17:31
or
17:32
anything
17:32
else.
17:33
And
17:33
then
17:33
we
17:34
do
17:34
have
17:34
some
17:34
people
17:35
starting
17:35
to
17:35
use
17:36
the.
17:37
I
17:37
don't
17:37
want
17:37
to
17:37
use
17:38
too
17:38
many
17:38
brand
17:38
names
17:39
and
17:39
dog
17:39
people,
17:39
but
17:39
some
17:40
of
17:40
the
17:40
OSBs
17:41
now
17:41
that
17:41
have
17:42
a
17:42
vapor
17:42
barrier
17:42
that
17:42
are
17:43
factory
17:43
on
17:44
there
17:44
to
17:44
tape
17:44
off
17:44
and
17:45
do
17:45
that.
17:46
And
17:46
that's
17:46
an
17:46
interesting
17:47
one
17:47
too.
17:47
And
17:47
I
17:47
get
17:48
that
17:48
could
17:48
really
17:48
keep
17:48
things
17:49
dry.
17:49
But
17:50
again,
17:50
we
17:50
go
17:50
back
17:50
to
17:51
how
17:52
much
17:52
do
17:52
we
17:52
want
17:52
this
17:52
building
17:53
to
17:53
breathe?
17:54
And
17:54
so
17:54
then
17:54
we
17:54
have
17:54
to
17:55
look
17:55
at
17:55
it
17:55
from
17:55
a
17:55
standpoint
17:56
of
17:57
return
17:57
on
17:57
the
17:58
investment.
17:59
So
17:59
how
17:59
much
17:59
more
18:00
are
18:00
these
18:00
building
18:00
materials
18:01
costing
18:01
us?
18:02
And
18:02
at
18:02
some
18:02
point
18:02
we
18:03
have
18:03
to
18:03
say
18:04
maybe
18:04
we
18:04
need
18:04
to
18:05
reevaluate
18:06
the
18:06
entire
18:06
process
18:07
of
18:07
construction.
18:08
And
18:09
that's
18:09
something
18:09
that
18:10
myself
18:10
and
18:10
a
18:11
number
18:11
of
18:11
people
18:11
that
18:11
I
18:11
work
18:12
with
18:12
been
18:12
evaluating
18:13
over
18:13
the
18:13
last
18:13
few
18:14
years
18:15
is
18:15
designing
18:16
homes
18:17
that
18:17
eliminate
18:18
as
18:18
much
18:19
of
18:19
the
18:19
problematic
18:20
products
18:20
as
18:21
possible.
18:22
It
18:22
means
18:24
reteaching
18:24
some
18:25
of
18:25
the
18:25
methods
18:26
to
18:26
contractors.
18:27
Architects
18:28
are
18:28
having
18:28
a
18:29
little
18:29
bit
18:29
difficult
18:29
time
18:30
with
18:30
it
18:30
because
18:31
we're
18:31
incorporating
18:32
more
18:32
commercial
18:32
materials
18:33
into
18:33
residential
18:34
projects.
18:34
Like
18:35
we
18:35
are
18:35
actually
18:35
starting
18:36
to
18:36
incorporate.
18:37
Instead
18:38
of
18:38
doing
18:38
traditional
18:39
exterior
18:39
sheathing,
18:40
we're
18:40
doing
18:40
things
18:40
like
18:41
den
18:41
glass
18:43
to
18:43
get
18:43
rid
18:43
of
18:43
wood
18:44
as
18:44
much
18:44
as
18:44
possible.
18:45
Knowing
18:46
that
18:46
wood
18:46
is
18:46
the
18:47
problem
18:47
in
18:48
just
18:48
about
18:48
every
18:49
project
18:49
I'm
18:49
on
18:50
now.
18:50
And
18:50
again,
18:50
this
18:51
is
18:51
different
18:51
30
18:51
years
18:52
ago,
18:52
but
18:52
in
18:53
the
18:53
last
18:53
five
18:53
years,
18:54
almost
18:55
every
18:55
consulting
18:56
client
18:56
I
18:56
deal
18:56
with
18:57
is
18:57
coming
18:57
to
18:57
me
18:58
saying
18:58
I
18:59
have
18:59
a
18:59
health
18:59
issue
18:59
because
19:00
of
19:00
mold
19:01
or
19:01
bacteria.
19:02
A
19:02
health
19:03
issue
19:03
like
19:03
chronic
19:04
inflammatory
19:04
response
19:05
or
19:05
mast
19:05
cell
19:05
activation,
19:06
or
19:07
they
19:07
have
19:07
another
19:07
health
19:08
issue
19:08
like
19:08
Lyme
19:09
disease
19:09
and
19:09
it's
19:09
exacerbated
19:10
by
19:10
mold
19:11
and
19:11
chemical
19:11
exposure.
19:13
But
19:13
it
19:13
all
19:13
leads
19:14
back
19:14
to,
19:14
if
19:15
we
19:15
didn't
19:15
build
19:16
our
19:16
homes
19:16
and
19:17
our
19:17
places
19:17
of
19:18
work
19:18
with
19:18
materials
19:19
that
19:19
we
19:20
know
19:20
are
19:20
prone
19:21
to
19:22
degradation
19:23
because
19:24
of
19:24
water,
19:25
then
19:25
we
19:25
wouldn't
19:25
be
19:26
in
19:26
this
19:26
mess.
19:27
Yeah,
19:28
it's
19:28
really
19:29
that
19:29
simple.
19:29
There's
19:30
new
19:30
products
19:30
out
19:30
there
19:30
now.
19:31
I
19:31
had
19:31
them
19:31
on
19:31
my
19:31
show,
19:32
TV
19:33
show,
19:33
probably
19:33
18,
19:34
24
19:34
months
19:35
ago.
19:36
New
19:36
product
19:36
called
19:36
System
19:37
3e,
19:37
which
19:38
is
19:38
awesome.
19:38
And
19:39
that
19:39
uses
19:39
those
19:39
perlite
19:40
blocks
19:40
that
19:40
snap
19:41
together.
19:41
Wow.
19:42
Okay.
19:43
Completely
19:43
fireproof.
19:44
I
19:44
can
19:44
put
19:44
a
19:44
torch
19:45
on
19:45
it
19:46
for
19:46
hours
19:46
until
19:46
the
19:47
oxy
19:47
acetylene
19:48
runs
19:48
out.
19:48
And
19:48
it
19:48
doesn't
19:49
hurt
19:49
it.
19:49
It's
19:50
made
19:50
out
19:50
of
19:50
perlite,
19:51
so
19:51
it's
19:51
hydroscopic.
19:52
So
19:52
water
19:52
doesn't
19:53
do
19:53
anything
19:53
to
19:53
it.
19:54
Okay.
19:55
Now
19:55
we're
19:55
talking
19:55
into
19:56
a
19:56
product
19:56
that
19:56
literally
19:57
stacked
19:57
the
19:58
blocks
19:58
that
19:58
lock
19:58
together.
20:00
I
20:00
like
20:00
where
20:00
he's
20:01
going
20:01
with
20:01
that.
20:02
I
20:02
do,
20:02
too.
20:03
And
20:03
I
20:03
think.
20:03
I
20:04
mean
20:04
that
20:04
you
20:04
think
20:05
about
20:05
construction
20:05
down
20:06
in
20:06
Florida,
20:06
where
20:06
most
20:07
homes
20:07
are
20:07
built
20:07
with
20:07
concrete
20:08
block.
20:09
Why
20:09
can't
20:09
we
20:09
do
20:10
that
20:10
in
20:10
Portland?
20:10
Why
20:11
can't
20:11
I
20:11
do
20:11
that
20:11
in
20:11
Milwaukee,
20:12
Wisconsin?
20:13
It's
20:13
just
20:14
rethinking
20:15
the
20:15
way
20:15
we
20:15
do
20:15
things.
20:16
Globally
20:17
speaking,
20:18
the
20:18
United
20:19
States
20:20
uses
20:21
more
20:21
wood
20:21
in
20:21
construction
20:22
than
20:22
any
20:23
other
20:23
country
20:24
on
20:24
the
20:24
planet.
20:25
Yep.
20:25
Why?
20:26
Because
20:26
we
20:27
have
20:27
more
20:27
wood
20:27
than
20:28
just
20:28
about
20:28
any
20:28
other
20:29
country
20:29
on
20:29
the
20:29
planet.
20:30
Yeah.
20:31
Yeah.
20:31
And
20:31
so
20:32
if
20:32
you
20:32
go
20:33
to.
20:33
Everybody
20:34
says
20:34
Europe
20:35
does
20:35
things
20:35
differently.
20:35
They
20:36
got
20:36
this
20:36
down.
20:36
Europe's
20:37
been
20:37
around
20:37
a
20:37
little
20:37
longer
20:38
than
20:38
the
20:38
United
20:38
States,
20:38
so
20:38
they've
20:39
had
20:39
a
20:39
lot
20:39
of
20:39
experience
20:40
with
20:40
this.
20:41
And
20:41
they've
20:41
already
20:41
raped
20:42
the
20:42
land
20:42
of
20:42
most
20:42
of
20:43
the
20:43
trees.
20:43
And
20:43
now
20:43
they're
20:44
extracting
20:44
as
20:44
much
20:46
concrete,
20:46
aggregate,
20:47
stone
20:47
out
20:47
of
20:48
the
20:48
ground
20:48
as
20:48
I
20:48
can.
20:49
But
20:49
the
20:49
reason
20:50
why
20:50
those
20:50
buildings
20:51
last.
20:52
I
20:53
was
20:53
in
20:53
Italy
20:53
several
20:54
years
20:54
ago
20:54
and
20:54
I
20:54
was
20:54
staying
20:55
in
20:55
a
20:55
villa
20:55
that
20:55
was
20:55
built
20:56
in
20:56
the
20:56
1400s
20:57
and
20:57
was
20:57
still
20:57
operating
20:58
as
20:58
a
20:58
hotel.
20:59
Yeah.
21:00
But
21:00
it
21:00
was
21:00
built
21:01
of
21:01
stone.
21:01
It
21:01
was
21:01
built
21:02
of
21:02
stone
21:02
and
21:02
concrete
21:03
and
21:03
those
21:03
derivatives.
21:04
And
21:05
they
21:05
don't
21:05
have
21:05
these
21:06
types
21:06
of
21:06
problems
21:07
because
21:07
of
21:07
that.
21:08
Here
21:09
we
21:09
have
21:10
so
21:10
much
21:10
wood,
21:10
we
21:11
don't
21:11
know
21:11
what
21:11
to
21:11
do
21:11
with
21:11
it.
21:12
So
21:12
we're
21:12
building
21:12
our
21:12
homes
21:13
out
21:13
of
21:13
it.
21:14
It's
21:14
almost
21:14
like
21:14
we
21:14
have
21:14
to
21:15
start
21:15
thinking
21:15
about
21:15
the.
21:16
The
21:16
Three
21:16
Little
21:16
Pigs.
21:17
And
21:17
if
21:17
it's
21:18
built
21:18
of
21:18
stone,
21:18
you
21:18
can't
21:19
blow
21:19
it
21:19
down.
21:20
There's
21:20
something
21:20
to
21:20
be
21:20
said
21:21
about
21:21
that.
21:22
And
21:22
the
21:22
problem
21:22
is
21:23
you
21:23
get
21:23
these
21:23
new
21:23
products.
21:24
And
21:24
I'll
21:24
say
21:24
that,
21:25
like
21:25
the
21:25
system
21:25
3e
21:26
stuff.
21:27
I
21:27
am
21:28
sure.
21:28
And
21:28
I'm
21:28
not.
21:29
I
21:29
don't
21:29
know
21:29
this
21:29
is
21:30
a
21:30
fact.
21:30
But
21:30
I
21:30
am
21:31
sure
21:31
that
21:32
would
21:32
have
21:32
been
21:32
a
21:32
perfect
21:33
product
21:33
down
21:34
to
21:34
build
21:34
homes
21:34
with
21:34
in
21:34
California,
21:35
in
21:36
Pacific
21:36
Palisades,
21:37
Malibu,
21:38
that
21:38
kind
21:38
of
21:38
stuff.
21:39
Because
21:40
you've
21:40
got
21:40
a
21:40
better
21:40
situation
21:41
there.
21:41
And
21:41
what's
21:42
cool
21:42
is
21:42
you
21:42
can
21:42
literally
21:43
plaster
21:44
the
21:44
inside
21:45
of
21:45
it,
21:45
skim
21:46
coat
21:46
it,
21:46
because
21:46
you're
21:47
ready
21:47
to
21:47
go.
21:47
It's
21:48
built
21:48
in
21:48
insulation
21:49
outside.
21:50
You
21:50
can
21:50
stucco
21:51
it
21:51
so
21:52
there's
21:52
no
21:52
wall
21:53
cavity
21:53
to
21:53
speak
21:53
of,
21:54
which
21:54
means
21:54
there's
21:54
no
21:55
place
21:55
for
21:55
things
21:55
to
21:56
grow
21:56
or
21:56
things
21:56
to
21:56
leak.
21:57
But
21:58
I
21:58
can
21:59
imagine
21:59
it's
21:59
going
22:00
to
22:00
take
22:00
them
22:01
years
22:01
and
22:01
years
22:02
just
22:03
to
22:03
get
22:03
through
22:03
the
22:04
building
22:04
department
22:04
so
22:05
they
22:05
can
22:05
go,
22:06
can
22:06
we
22:06
do
22:06
that?
22:07
Yeah.
22:08
And
22:09
that's
22:09
where
22:09
you
22:09
get
22:09
into
22:09
an
22:09
issue.
22:10
Yeah.
22:11
And
22:11
then
22:11
so
22:11
in
22:11
order
22:11
for
22:12
that
22:12
to
22:12
Happen
22:12
you
22:12
have
22:12
to
22:13
have
22:13
all
22:13
the
22:13
builders
22:13
and
22:14
the
22:14
builders
22:14
associations
22:15
on
22:15
board
22:15
to
22:16
really
22:16
push
22:16
it,
22:16
promote
22:17
it.
22:17
And
22:18
they
22:18
don't
22:18
want
22:18
to
22:18
because
22:19
once
22:19
you
22:20
bring
22:20
in
22:20
a
22:20
product
22:20
like
22:20
that,
22:21
now
22:21
you're
22:21
talking.
22:21
That's
22:22
really
22:22
a
22:22
job
22:22
for
22:22
a
22:23
mason.
22:24
That's
22:24
a
22:24
different.
22:24
It's
22:25
a
22:25
completely
22:25
different
22:25
skill
22:26
set.
22:26
In
22:26
a
22:26
lot
22:26
of
22:26
cases,
22:27
it's
22:27
a
22:27
different
22:27
union.
22:28
And
22:28
so
22:29
you
22:29
have
22:29
to
22:30
look
22:30
at
22:30
these
22:30
things
22:30
and
22:30
say,
22:31
why
22:31
are
22:31
we,
22:32
why
22:32
aren't
22:33
we
22:33
progressing
22:33
in
22:34
a
22:34
good,
22:34
a
22:34
quick
22:35
and
22:35
fast
22:35
manner
22:36
on
22:36
building
22:37
healthier
22:37
homes?
22:38
And
22:38
it's
22:38
just
22:38
the
22:38
pushback
22:39
of.
22:40
I
22:40
believe
22:40
the
22:41
industry
22:41
is
22:42
very
22:42
content
22:43
with
22:43
how
22:43
they
22:44
do
22:44
things
22:44
and
22:44
they
22:45
resist
22:45
change
22:45
until
22:46
it's
22:46
absolutely
22:47
necessary.
22:48
And
22:49
I'm
22:49
seeing,
22:50
just
22:51
based
22:51
upon
22:51
my
22:51
experiences
22:52
now
22:52
with
22:52
clients
22:53
around
22:53
the
22:53
country,
22:53
that
22:54
it's
22:54
becoming
22:55
medically
22:56
necessary
22:57
for
22:57
people
22:57
to
22:57
make
22:58
these
22:58
changes.
22:59
Yep.
24:21
And
24:21
that's
24:22
a
24:22
big
24:22
deal.
24:23
And
24:23
it's
24:24
funny
24:24
and
24:24
quite
24:25
frankly.
24:25
And
24:25
I'm
24:25
going
24:26
to
24:26
make
24:26
a
24:26
lot
24:26
of
24:26
lumberyards
24:27
mad
24:27
out
24:27
there.
24:27
The
24:27
wood
24:28
lobby
24:28
is
24:28
strong.
24:29
They're
24:29
a
24:30
strong
24:31
player
24:31
out
24:31
there.
24:32
I
24:32
look
24:32
at
24:32
this
24:32
and
24:33
go,
24:33
that's
24:33
a
24:33
hard
24:33
one.
24:33
Now,
24:34
could
24:34
you
24:34
be
24:34
using
24:34
wood?
24:35
Is
24:35
framing
24:35
on
24:36
interior
24:36
walls
24:36
where
24:37
it's
24:37
all
24:37
protected?
24:38
That's
24:38
a
24:38
different
24:38
discussion.
24:39
Maybe.
24:40
But
24:40
anything
24:40
that's
24:41
getting
24:41
the
24:41
weather
24:41
out
24:41
there
24:42
or
24:42
potentially
24:43
up
24:43
against,
24:44
you
24:44
know,
24:44
something
24:44
like
24:45
that,
24:45
I
24:45
think,
24:46
like
24:46
you,
24:46
that
24:46
we
24:47
really
24:47
need
24:47
to
24:47
rethink
24:48
how
24:48
we
24:48
do
24:48
these
24:48
things.
24:49
And
24:50
it
24:50
was
24:50
one
24:50
thing
24:51
when
24:51
it
24:51
was
24:51
being
24:51
built
24:52
in
24:52
1940s
24:52
and
24:53
there
24:53
was
24:53
so
24:53
much
24:53
air
24:54
going
24:54
through
24:54
that
24:54
wall,
24:55
it's
24:55
gonna
24:56
dry
24:56
out,
24:56
right?
24:57
It's,
24:57
you're
24:57
leaking
24:58
everywhere,
24:58
you'll
24:59
be
24:59
fine.
24:59
And
25:00
many
25:00
times
25:01
you
25:01
were.
25:02
But
25:02
the,
25:03
like
25:03
I
25:03
said
25:03
before,
25:03
the
25:03
unintended
25:04
consequences.
25:06
Think
25:06
of
25:06
in
25:07
the
25:07
90s
25:07
and
25:07
2000s
25:08
when
25:08
the
25:09
big
25:09
push
25:09
for
25:09
energy
25:09
efficiency
25:10
tightened
25:11
everything
25:11
up.
25:12
The
25:12
unintended
25:13
consequence
25:13
of
25:13
do,
25:14
of
25:14
trying
25:14
to
25:15
save
25:16
energy
25:16
and
25:17
be
25:17
more
25:17
eco
25:18
friendly
25:18
is
25:19
we're
25:19
building
25:20
homes
25:20
that
25:20
are
25:20
tighter
25:21
and
25:21
tighter,
25:21
that
25:21
cannot
25:22
get
25:22
rid
25:22
of
25:22
this
25:23
moisture,
25:23
number
25:24
one.
25:24
And
25:24
number
25:24
two,
25:25
there's
25:26
the
25:26
chemical
25:26
exposure
25:27
that
25:28
we
25:28
didn't
25:28
have
25:28
in
25:28
the
25:28
40s
25:29
and
25:29
50s,
25:30
number
25:30
one,
25:30
because
25:30
we
25:31
didn't
25:31
have
25:31
these
25:31
chemicals
25:31
around,
25:32
plastics
25:33
weren't
25:33
really
25:34
readily.
25:34
Weren't
25:34
readily
25:35
available
25:35
in
25:36
all
25:36
building
25:36
materials.
25:37
So
25:38
since
25:38
about
25:39
the
25:39
60s
25:40
when
25:40
plastics
25:41
became
25:41
ubiquitous
25:42
in
25:42
building
25:44
and
25:44
the
25:44
use
25:45
of
25:45
all
25:45
types
25:46
of
25:46
synthetics
25:47
throughout
25:47
the
25:47
entire
25:47
construction
25:48
process,
25:49
you
25:49
have
25:49
all
25:50
these
25:50
materials
25:51
off
25:51
gassing
25:51
and
25:52
off
25:52
gassing
25:52
is
25:52
essentially
25:53
the
25:53
release
25:53
of
25:54
unreacted
25:54
chemical
25:55
monomers
25:56
from
25:56
materials
25:57
that
25:58
can
25:58
last
25:58
anywhere
25:59
from
26:00
30
26:00
days
26:00
to
26:00
30
26:01
years.
26:01
Just
26:01
depends
26:02
on
26:02
the
26:03
product
26:03
and
26:03
depends
26:04
on
26:04
where
26:04
it's
26:04
being
26:05
used.
26:06
So
26:06
for
26:06
the
26:06
people
26:06
out
26:07
there
26:07
that
26:07
don't
26:07
know,
26:07
that's
26:08
new
26:08
house
26:08
smell,
26:09
new
26:09
car
26:09
smell.
26:10
There
26:10
you
26:11
go.
26:11
Exactly.
26:12
That
26:12
new
26:12
home
26:12
smell.
26:13
And
26:13
some
26:13
people
26:13
say,
26:13
oh,
26:14
I
26:14
love
26:14
the
26:14
new
26:14
home
26:14
smell.
26:15
I
26:15
love
26:15
the
26:15
new
26:15
car
26:15
smell.
26:16
It
26:16
makes
26:16
me
26:16
feel
26:16
like
26:16
I,
26:17
that's
26:17
great.
26:18
But
26:18
for
26:18
a
26:18
giant
26:19
percentage
26:20
of
26:20
the
26:20
population,
26:20
somewhere
26:21
around
26:21
between
26:21
25
26:22
to
26:22
30%,
26:23
that
26:23
smell
26:24
is
26:25
toxic.
26:25
It
26:26
is
26:26
dangerous.
26:27
And
26:27
so
26:28
we
26:28
have
26:28
to
26:29
look
26:29
closely
26:30
at
26:30
this
26:30
and
26:31
say,
26:31
what
26:31
are
26:31
we
26:31
doing?
26:32
We're
26:32
building
26:32
homes
26:33
again,
26:34
trying
26:34
to
26:34
be
26:34
better
26:35
performing,
26:36
trying
26:36
to
26:36
save
26:37
cost
26:38
quicker,
26:38
installs
26:39
all
26:39
these
26:40
wonderful
26:40
things.
26:40
And
26:41
the
26:41
aesthetic
26:41
that
26:42
you
26:42
want
26:42
to
26:42
achieve,
26:43
the
26:43
trade
26:44
off
26:44
is
26:45
these
26:45
homes
26:45
are
26:46
not
26:46
safe.
26:47
Yeah.
26:48
And
26:48
building
26:48
code
26:49
is
26:49
in
26:50
many
26:50
areas
26:51
so
26:51
far
26:51
behind.
26:52
Think
26:52
about
26:52
how
26:53
many
26:53
areas
26:53
across
26:54
the
26:54
United
26:54
States
26:56
that
26:56
a
26:56
range
26:57
hood
26:57
is
26:57
not
26:57
even
26:58
required
26:59
for
26:59
building
26:59
code.
27:00
Or
27:01
bath
27:01
fans.
27:01
As
27:02
long
27:02
as
27:02
there's
27:02
a
27:03
window
27:03
to
27:03
open,
27:04
they
27:04
can
27:04
get
27:04
around
27:04
it.
27:05
And
27:05
I
27:05
look
27:05
at
27:06
that
27:06
and
27:06
go,
27:07
guys,
27:08
this
27:08
is
27:08
1940s
27:09
thinking.
27:11
It
27:11
is.
27:11
And
27:12
I
27:12
totally
27:13
agree
27:13
with
27:13
that
27:13
because
27:13
I
27:14
come
27:14
up
27:14
across
27:14
that
27:14
all
27:14
the
27:15
time.
27:15
And
27:16
then
27:16
take
27:16
it
27:16
to
27:17
the
27:17
next
27:17
extreme,
27:17
which
27:18
is
27:18
these
27:18
building
27:19
codes
27:19
that
27:20
have
27:20
the
27:21
insulation
27:22
requirements
27:23
that
27:23
are
27:24
so
27:24
incredibly
27:25
high
27:26
that
27:26
the
27:27
only
27:27
way
27:27
to
27:28
achieve
27:28
them
27:28
is
27:28
to
27:29
use
27:29
spray
27:29
foam
27:29
insulation,
27:30
which
27:31
there
27:31
is
27:31
no
27:31
such
27:32
thing
27:32
as
27:32
a
27:32
spray
27:33
foam.
27:33
A
27:34
safe
27:34
spray
27:34
foam
27:35
insulation.
27:36
So
27:36
they
27:36
are
27:37
requiring
27:37
these
27:38
things
27:39
in
27:39
order
27:39
to
27:40
meet
27:40
an
27:40
energy
27:40
code.
27:41
But
27:42
yet
27:42
they
27:43
then
27:43
make
27:43
you
27:44
as
27:44
the
27:44
homeowner,
27:45
essentially,
27:46
you're
27:46
building
27:46
your
27:47
own
27:47
casket,
27:47
I
27:48
believe.
27:48
Yeah.
27:49
I
27:49
was
27:50
in
27:50
a
27:51
crawl
27:52
space
27:52
shooting,
27:53
and
27:53
I
27:53
don't
27:54
want
27:54
to
27:54
disparage
27:54
anybody
27:55
here,
27:55
so
27:55
I'm
27:55
going
27:55
to
27:55
say
27:55
this
27:56
carefully.
27:57
I
27:57
was
27:57
in
27:57
a
27:57
crawl
27:57
space
27:58
doing
27:58
some
27:58
content.
28:00
They
28:00
had
28:01
done
28:01
a
28:01
very
28:01
beautiful
28:02
job
28:04
of
28:04
encapsulating
28:05
the
28:05
crawl
28:06
space.
28:06
They
28:06
had
28:07
multiple,
28:09
multiple
28:09
dehumidifiers.
28:11
They
28:11
had
28:11
foam
28:12
insulation
28:14
underneath
28:15
the.
28:15
The
28:16
crawl
28:16
space
28:16
plastic.
28:17
It
28:17
was
28:18
well
28:18
done.
28:19
And
28:20
they
28:21
had
28:21
to
28:21
come
28:21
in
28:22
and
28:22
put
28:22
a
28:22
fire
28:23
retardant
28:23
over
28:24
the
28:24
foam
28:24
so
28:25
that
28:25
wouldn't
28:25
burn.
28:26
And
28:27
I
28:27
got
28:27
down
28:27
there,
28:28
the
28:29
ammonia
28:30
smell
28:31
was
28:31
almost
28:32
unbearable
28:33
in
28:34
that
28:34
space.
28:34
Yeah,
28:35
I've
28:35
been
28:36
talking
28:36
about
28:36
this
28:36
for
28:36
years,
28:37
too.
28:37
The
28:37
fire
28:38
codes,
28:38
the
28:39
fire
28:39
code
28:39
requirements.
28:41
A
28:41
lot
28:41
of
28:41
these
28:41
things
28:41
date
28:42
back
28:42
to
28:43
the
28:43
great
28:43
Chicago
28:44
fire.
28:45
Their
28:45
mentality
28:46
for
28:46
requiring
28:47
these
28:47
things.
28:48
I'm
28:48
sorry,
28:49
but
28:50
if
28:50
your
28:50
crawl
28:51
space
28:51
is
28:51
on
28:52
fire,
28:53
you
28:53
got
28:53
other
28:53
issues,
28:54
right?
28:55
Yeah,
28:55
you
28:56
got
28:56
way
28:56
other
28:56
issues,
28:58
you
28:58
know,
28:58
so
28:58
get
28:59
out
28:59
of
28:59
the
28:59
house.
28:59
Right?
29:00
Exactly.
29:01
Yeah.
29:01
And
29:01
let's
29:01
use
29:02
technology
29:02
that
29:02
we
29:03
have
29:03
at
29:03
our
29:03
avail,
29:04
which
29:04
is.
29:04
I
29:05
don't
29:05
Know
29:05
things
29:05
like
29:05
smoke
29:06
detectors
29:06
and
29:06
fire
29:07
detectors.
29:07
To
29:08
let
29:08
us
29:08
know,
29:08
let's
29:09
not
29:09
put
29:09
a
29:09
coating
29:10
so
29:11
on
29:11
that.
29:11
I
29:11
had
29:11
a
29:12
situation
29:12
just
29:12
a
29:12
few
29:13
years
29:13
back
29:13
and
29:13
you
29:13
may
29:13
remember
29:14
this
29:14
too,
29:14
because
29:14
it
29:15
made
29:15
national
29:15
attention.
29:15
There's
29:16
a
29:16
very
29:16
large
29:16
manufacturer
29:18
of
29:18
wood
29:19
building
29:19
materials
29:19
that
29:20
made
29:20
tji
29:20
joists.
29:21
And
29:21
these
29:22
TJI
29:22
joists,
29:23
in
29:23
order
29:23
to
29:23
meet
29:24
the
29:24
codes
29:24
in
29:25
these
29:25
particular
29:26
areas
29:26
had
29:27
to
29:27
be
29:27
sprayed
29:27
with
29:28
a
29:28
fire
29:28
retardant
29:29
coating.
29:30
That
29:30
it's
29:31
what's
29:31
called
29:31
an
29:31
intumescent
29:32
paint.
29:32
So
29:32
as
29:32
it
29:33
heats
29:33
up,
29:33
it
29:33
swells
29:34
to
29:34
perform
29:34
to.
29:35
To
29:35
create
29:35
insulation.
29:36
Essentially.
29:36
Yeah.
29:37
This
29:38
intumescent
29:38
paint
29:39
was
29:40
releasing
29:41
so
29:41
much
29:41
formaldehyde
29:42
into
29:43
the
29:43
homes
29:43
that
29:43
it
29:43
was
29:43
driving
29:44
families
29:45
out
29:45
of
29:45
these
29:45
homes.
29:46
And
29:46
I'm
29:46
talking
29:47
about
29:47
not
29:47
just
29:47
in
29:48
a
29:48
home
29:48
here
29:48
and
29:48
there,
29:48
but
29:49
entire
29:49
subdivisions.
29:50
So
29:51
we
29:51
are
29:51
striving
29:52
to
29:52
try
29:52
to
29:52
make
29:52
the
29:53
home
29:53
saf,
29:53
but
29:54
we're
29:54
poisoning
29:54
people
29:55
while
29:55
we
29:55
do
29:55
it.
29:56
The
29:56
mentality
29:57
just
29:57
doesn't
29:58
make
29:58
sense
29:58
at
29:58
all
29:59
on
29:59
this.
29:59
And
30:00
at
30:00
the
30:00
same
30:00
time
30:02
these
30:02
same
30:02
fire
30:03
codes
30:03
refuse
30:04
and
30:04
it
30:04
drives
30:04
me
30:05
nuts.
30:05
Refuses
30:06
to
30:07
deal
30:07
with
30:08
trust
30:08
systems
30:09
where
30:09
we
30:10
have
30:10
the
30:10
stamped
30:10
plates.
30:11
Because
30:12
talking
30:12
to
30:13
firefighters
30:14
out
30:14
there
30:14
that
30:14
I've
30:14
had
30:14
on
30:15
this
30:15
show,
30:15
they
30:16
talk
30:16
about
30:17
when
30:17
they'll
30:18
build
30:18
the
30:18
floor
30:19
systems
30:19
with
30:20
those
30:20
kind
30:20
of
30:20
where
30:20
it's
30:21
like
30:21
a
30:21
1012
30:22
or
30:22
14
30:22
inch
30:23
and
30:23
they're
30:24
building
30:24
those
30:24
out
30:24
of
30:25
those
30:25
steel
30:25
plated
30:25
trusses.
30:26
If
30:27
there's
30:27
been
30:27
an
30:27
active
30:28
fire
30:28
in
30:28
there
30:28
for
30:29
more
30:29
than
30:29
five
30:30
minutes,
30:30
which
30:30
is
30:31
many
30:31
times
30:31
a
30:32
response
30:32
time
30:33
from
30:33
the
30:33
time
30:33
they
30:33
figured
30:33
out
30:34
to
30:34
get
30:34
there,
30:35
they
30:35
won't
30:35
walk
30:36
onto
30:36
those
30:36
surfaces
30:37
or
30:37
go
30:37
onto
30:37
those
30:37
roofs
30:38
because
30:39
about
30:39
two
30:39
to
30:40
three
30:40
minutes
30:40
in
30:40
with
30:41
a
30:41
fire
30:41
on,
30:41
those
30:41
plates
30:42
get
30:43
hurled
30:43
and
30:44
come
30:44
off.
30:44
And
30:44
there's
30:44
no
30:45
other
30:45
screws
30:45
there,
30:46
there's
30:46
no
30:46
other
30:46
fasteners.
30:47
And
30:47
so
30:48
I've
30:48
talked
30:48
to
30:48
firefighters
30:49
where
30:49
they've
30:49
gone
30:49
into
30:50
newer
30:50
homes
30:51
that
30:51
had
30:51
that
30:51
as
30:51
the
30:52
floor
30:52
system
30:53
and
30:53
they
30:54
go
30:54
walk
30:54
in
30:54
and
30:54
they
30:55
don't
30:55
realize
30:56
that
30:56
floor
30:56
is
30:57
collapsed.
30:57
But
30:58
the
30:59
tax
30:59
strip
30:59
has
31:00
kept
31:00
the
31:00
carpet
31:00
there
31:01
like
31:01
a.
31:03
And
31:03
so
31:03
the
31:03
carpet
31:04
looks
31:04
a
31:04
little
31:04
bowed.
31:05
But
31:05
they
31:05
go
31:05
walking
31:06
in
31:06
there,
31:06
the
31:06
floor's
31:07
already
31:07
collapsed
31:07
and
31:07
they
31:07
don't
31:08
even
31:08
know
31:08
it
31:08
because
31:08
the
31:08
carpet's
31:09
still
31:09
attached
31:10
to
31:11
the
31:11
tax
31:11
strip
31:12
and
31:13
it's
31:13
an
31:13
issue.
31:13
And
31:13
then
31:14
you
31:14
get
31:14
that
31:14
up
31:14
there.
31:15
So
31:15
there
31:15
are
31:15
so
31:15
many
31:16
little
31:16
issues
31:16
like
31:17
that.
31:18
They
31:18
get
31:18
so
31:18
hyper
31:19
focused
31:19
on
31:20
and
31:21
completely
31:21
miss
31:22
the
31:22
other
31:22
ones.
31:22
And
31:22
I
31:23
agree,
31:23
if
31:23
we
31:23
spent
31:24
more
31:24
time
31:24
with
31:25
maybe
31:25
sprinklers
31:26
or
31:27
fire
31:27
alarm
31:28
smoke
31:29
detector
31:29
things,
31:30
we'd
31:30
be
31:30
way
31:31
better
31:31
off.
31:32
Yeah,
31:32
I
31:32
totally
31:32
agree.
31:33
And
31:33
I
31:33
think
31:33
it
31:34
Also
31:34
requires
31:35
us
31:35
just
31:35
as
31:35
the
31:36
consumer,
31:37
to
31:37
bring
31:38
these
31:38
things
31:38
up
31:38
when
31:38
we're
31:39
talking
31:39
to
31:39
our
31:39
builder,
31:40
talking
31:40
to
31:40
our
31:40
architect.
31:41
And
31:42
we
31:42
have
31:42
to
31:42
make
31:42
the
31:43
conscious
31:43
decision
31:44
that
31:45
when
31:45
you're
31:45
designing
31:46
and
31:46
building
31:46
a
31:46
new
31:46
home,
31:47
what
31:47
is
31:47
the
31:48
most
31:48
important
31:49
aspect
31:50
of
31:50
this
31:50
build?
31:51
Is
31:51
it
31:52
to
31:52
have
31:53
the
31:53
esthetic
31:53
that
31:53
you're
31:54
looking
31:54
for?
31:55
Is
31:55
it
31:55
to
31:55
meet
31:55
a
31:56
price
31:56
point?
31:56
Or
31:56
is
31:57
it
31:57
to
31:57
have
31:57
the
31:57
healthiest
31:58
home
31:58
possible?
31:59
You
31:59
can't
31:59
have
31:59
all
32:00
three.
32:00
You
32:00
can
32:00
have
32:01
two
32:01
out
32:01
of
32:01
the
32:01
three,
32:01
but
32:01
you
32:02
have
32:02
to
32:02
choose
32:02
which
32:02
one
32:03
you're
32:03
getting
32:03
rid
32:03
of.
32:04
And
32:05
with
32:05
my
32:05
clients
32:06
and
32:06
I
32:06
deal
32:06
with
32:06
people
32:06
who
32:07
have
32:07
severe
32:07
health
32:08
issues,
32:08
their
32:08
focus
32:09
is
32:09
always,
32:09
I
32:10
got
32:10
to
32:10
build
32:10
a
32:10
home
32:10
that's
32:11
completely
32:11
healthy
32:11
for
32:11
me.
32:12
Otherwise
32:12
why
32:13
build
32:13
a
32:13
new
32:13
home
32:13
at
32:14
all?
32:15
All
32:15
right?
32:15
Then
32:15
we
32:15
get
32:16
into
32:16
the
32:16
design
32:16
process
32:17
and
32:18
people
32:18
get
32:18
influenced
32:19
by
32:19
the
32:20
television
32:20
shows
32:21
that
32:21
are
32:21
showing
32:21
these
32:22
wonderful
32:22
designs
32:23
and
32:23
the
32:23
magazines
32:24
and
32:24
the
32:24
websites,
32:25
hey,
32:26
trust
32:26
me,
32:26
we're
32:27
all
32:27
creatures
32:27
of
32:27
that.
32:27
I
32:28
want
32:28
to,
32:28
if
32:28
I'm
32:28
going
32:28
to
32:28
spend
32:29
a
32:29
half
32:29
a
32:29
million
32:29
dollars
32:29
on
32:30
a
32:30
new
32:30
home
32:30
or
32:30
more,
32:30
I
32:31
want
32:31
it
32:31
to
32:31
look
32:31
beautiful.
32:32
Yeah,
32:32
but
32:33
you
32:33
have
32:33
to
32:33
make
32:33
the
32:34
decision.
32:35
All
32:35
right,
32:35
maybe
32:36
this
32:36
doesn't
32:36
look
32:36
as
32:37
nice,
32:37
but
32:38
it's
32:38
not
32:38
going
32:38
to
32:38
poison
32:39
me.
32:39
It's
32:40
not
32:40
going
32:40
to
32:40
be
32:40
a
32:41
problem
32:41
if
32:41
it
32:41
starts
32:41
to
32:42
burn
32:42
things
32:43
of
32:43
that
32:43
nature.
32:43
And
32:43
that's
32:44
a
32:44
really
32:44
tough
32:44
decision
32:45
to
32:45
make.
32:45
But
32:45
we
32:45
have
32:46
to,
32:47
I
32:47
don't
32:48
know,
32:48
we
32:48
gotta
32:48
be
32:49
stronger
32:49
in
32:49
these
32:50
decision
32:50
making
32:50
processes
32:51
and
32:51
really
32:52
focus
32:52
on
32:52
what's
32:52
good
32:53
for
32:53
us
32:53
long
32:53
term.
32:54
No
32:55
question.
32:55
I
32:55
gotta
32:55
ask
32:56
you
32:56
some
32:56
questions
32:56
here.
32:56
I
32:57
want
32:57
to
32:57
give
32:57
you
32:57
a
32:57
little
32:57
lightning
32:58
round
32:58
here.
32:59
So
33:00
if
33:00
you
33:00
were
33:01
to
33:01
choose
33:01
a
33:01
building
33:01
material
33:02
on
33:02
the
33:02
outside
33:02
of
33:02
a
33:03
house,
33:03
plywood
33:04
or
33:04
osb,
33:07
I'm
33:07
diving
33:07
in
33:07
on
33:08
you,
33:08
man.
33:08
I'm
33:08
diving
33:08
in
33:08
on
33:09
you.
33:09
This
33:10
is
33:10
not
33:10
a
33:10
yes,
33:10
no
33:10
answer,
33:11
because
33:11
it
33:11
can't
33:11
be.
33:11
Yeah.
33:12
So
33:12
if
33:12
I
33:12
had
33:12
to
33:12
choose
33:13
just
33:13
between
33:14
exterior
33:15
grade
33:15
plywood
33:15
and
33:16
exterior
33:16
grade
33:16
osb,
33:17
cheer
33:17
grade
33:17
plywood.
33:17
Okay,
33:18
nice,
33:19
nice.
33:19
I
33:20
tend
33:20
to
33:20
agree
33:20
with
33:20
that.
33:20
I
33:21
tend
33:21
to
33:21
agree
33:21
with
33:21
that.
33:21
And
33:22
it's
33:22
though,
33:23
you
33:23
know,
33:23
asterisk
33:24
from
33:24
my
33:24
point
33:24
of
33:25
view,
33:25
I've
33:25
seen
33:25
plenty
33:26
of
33:26
times
33:27
exterior
33:28
grade
33:28
plywood,
33:28
especially
33:29
like
33:29
half
33:29
inch
33:29
stuff
33:30
that's
33:30
on
33:30
a
33:30
roof
33:31
that
33:31
I've
33:31
seen
33:31
it
33:31
start
33:32
to
33:32
delaminate
33:32
because
33:32
of
33:33
the
33:33
rain,
33:34
but
33:34
at
33:34
the
33:34
same
33:34
time,
33:34
the
33:35
OSB
33:35
is
33:35
failing
33:35
too.
33:36
That's
33:36
it.
33:36
So
33:37
you
33:37
deal
33:37
with.
33:37
And
33:38
so
33:38
that's
33:38
why
33:38
I
33:38
say
33:38
all
33:39
these
33:39
what
33:39
ifs?
33:39
Right?
33:39
Or.
33:40
But
33:40
ifs.
33:40
Yeah,
33:41
if
33:41
you
33:41
do
33:41
exterior
33:42
grade
33:42
plywood,
33:43
plywood
33:43
for
33:43
sheathing,
33:44
then
33:44
I'd
33:45
Also
33:45
say
33:45
you've
33:46
got
33:46
to
33:46
have
33:46
a
33:47
really
33:47
good
33:48
wrb
33:49
and
33:49
it's
33:49
got
33:49
to
33:49
be
33:50
for
33:50
the
33:50
walls.
33:51
It's
33:51
got
33:51
to
33:51
be
33:51
something
33:51
like
33:52
I'm
33:52
a
33:52
big
33:52
fan
33:53
of
33:53
the
33:53
peel
33:53
and
33:54
stick
33:54
like
33:54
the
33:54
seagull
33:55
wraps.
33:55
Oh
33:55
yeah.
33:56
And
33:56
because
33:56
it
33:57
takes
33:57
some
33:57
of
33:57
the
33:58
user
33:58
error
33:58
out
33:59
of
33:59
the
33:59
equation
34:00
and
34:00
then
34:01
the
34:01
same
34:01
thing
34:01
for
34:02
roofing
34:02
materials
34:03
and
34:03
using
34:03
the
34:03
synthetic
34:03
roof
34:04
underlayments.
34:05
But
34:05
this
34:06
is
34:06
the
34:06
thing.
34:06
It's
34:06
when
34:06
a
34:07
customer
34:07
asked
34:07
me
34:07
what
34:08
would
34:08
you
34:08
do
34:08
in
34:08
your
34:08
house?
34:09
I
34:09
can
34:09
give
34:09
them
34:10
the
34:10
answer.
34:10
But
34:10
then
34:10
here
34:11
are
34:11
all
34:11
the
34:12
things
34:12
that
34:12
you
34:12
have
34:12
to
34:13
do
34:13
to
34:13
make
34:13
sure
34:13
that
34:13
whichever
34:14
one
34:14
of
34:14
them
34:14
you
34:14
choose
34:15
will
34:15
actually
34:15
work.
34:16
Yeah,
34:17
absolutely.
34:18
So
34:18
my
34:19
favorite
34:19
kind
34:19
of
34:20
if
34:20
I
34:20
was
34:20
going
34:20
to
34:21
build
34:21
a
34:22
wall
34:22
as
34:22
an
34:23
example
34:24
and
34:24
say,
34:24
okay,
34:25
here's
34:25
how
34:25
I
34:25
like
34:25
to
34:25
do
34:26
it,
34:26
I
34:27
tend
34:27
to
34:27
go
34:28
of
34:28
course,
34:28
you
34:28
got
34:28
your
34:29
two
34:29
by
34:29
six
34:29
framing.
34:30
I
34:30
would
34:30
put
34:30
in
34:31
like
34:31
a
34:31
rockwool
34:32
insulation
34:32
or
34:32
one
34:33
of
34:33
the
34:33
insulations
34:34
in
34:34
there
34:34
because
34:34
it,
34:35
it
34:35
helps
34:35
you
34:35
with
34:35
fire,
34:35
helps
34:36
you
34:36
with
34:36
water
34:36
a
34:36
little
34:36
bit
34:37
if
34:37
it
34:37
gets
34:37
through
34:37
there.
34:38
But
34:38
then
34:38
I
34:39
would
34:39
go
34:39
ply
34:40
weather
34:40
resistant
34:41
barrier.
34:42
And
34:42
if
34:42
you're
34:42
putting
34:42
something
34:43
else
34:43
up
34:43
on
34:44
it,
34:44
rain
34:44
screen
34:46
things
34:46
properly
34:47
flashed
34:47
and
34:47
then
34:48
you're
34:48
sighting
34:48
on
34:49
top
34:49
of
34:49
that
34:50
100%.
34:51
No.
34:51
I
34:51
think
34:51
the
34:51
use
34:52
of
34:52
rain
34:52
screens
34:53
has
34:54
made
34:55
a
34:55
huge
34:55
improvement
34:56
in
34:56
how
34:56
these
34:56
wall
34:57
assemblies
34:57
perform.
34:58
And
34:58
then
34:59
on
34:59
the
34:59
inside,
34:59
of
34:59
course
35:00
in
35:00
most
35:01
parts
35:01
of
35:01
the
35:01
country,
35:02
there's
35:02
the
35:02
code
35:03
is
35:03
that
35:03
you
35:03
have
35:03
to
35:03
put
35:04
in
35:04
a
35:04
moisture
35:05
resistant
35:06
barrier
35:07
on
35:07
the
35:07
inside
35:08
in
35:08
between
35:08
the
35:08
insulation
35:09
and
35:09
the
35:09
drywall.
35:10
And
35:10
most
35:11
of
35:11
the
35:11
builders
35:11
in
35:11
those
35:12
areas
35:12
will
35:12
use
35:12
a
35:13
4
35:13
or
35:13
a
35:13
6
35:14
mil
35:14
plastic.
35:14
4
35:15
mil
35:15
is
35:15
actually
35:16
is
35:16
code.
35:17
6
35:17
mil
35:17
is
35:18
a
35:18
vapor
35:18
barrier,
35:18
you
35:18
can't
35:19
use
35:19
it.
35:19
But
35:19
in
35:20
either
35:20
situation.
35:21
The
35:21
problem
35:21
with
35:22
this
35:22
is
35:22
it
35:22
allows
35:23
for
35:23
vapor
35:23
transmission
35:24
in
35:24
both
35:24
directions.
35:25
Yeah.
35:26
And
35:26
so
35:27
it's
35:27
fine
35:28
in
35:28
one
35:28
situation,
35:29
but
35:29
you
35:29
don't
35:29
want
35:30
to
35:30
have
35:30
moisture
35:30
inside
35:31
of
35:31
the
35:31
house
35:31
pushing
35:31
back
35:31
into
35:32
the
35:32
cavity
35:32
wall.
35:32
So
35:33
I
35:33
always
35:34
recommend
35:34
the
35:34
use
35:34
of
35:34
a
35:35
smart
35:35
membrane,
35:36
something
35:36
that
35:37
allows
35:37
the
35:37
vapor
35:38
transmission
35:38
only
35:38
in
35:39
one
35:39
direction.
35:39
And
35:40
again,
35:40
it's
35:40
like
35:40
you're
35:41
pulling
35:41
teeth
35:41
with
35:41
the
35:42
contractors
35:42
because
35:42
they're
35:43
so
35:43
used
35:43
to
35:43
what
35:44
they're
35:44
using.
35:45
We
35:45
just
35:45
have
35:46
to
35:46
get
35:46
them
35:46
to
35:46
change
35:46
a
35:46
little
35:47
bit.
35:47
I've
35:47
done
35:47
an
35:48
awful
35:48
lot
35:48
of
35:48
work
35:48
now
35:49
in
35:49
the
35:49
last
35:49
few
35:49
years
35:49
trying
35:50
to
35:51
teach
35:52
the
35:52
trades
35:52
here
35:53
locally
35:54
on
35:54
here's
35:55
what
35:55
you're
35:55
trying
35:55
to
35:55
do.
35:56
You're
35:56
trying
35:56
to
35:57
keep
35:57
air
35:57
from
35:58
getting
35:58
into
35:59
the
35:59
cavity,
36:00
you're
36:00
trying
36:00
to
36:00
keep
36:01
water
36:01
from
36:01
giving
36:02
the
36:02
cavity.
36:03
But
36:03
you
36:03
have
36:03
to
36:04
assume
36:05
moisture
36:06
is
36:06
in
36:06
there,
36:07
never
36:08
assume
36:08
that
36:08
it's
36:09
perfect.
36:09
Always
36:10
assume
36:10
it's
36:10
not
36:11
perfect.
36:11
So
36:11
now
36:12
we
36:12
have
36:12
to
36:12
give
36:13
it
36:13
the
36:13
ability
36:14
for
36:14
it
36:14
to
36:14
come
36:14
out.
36:16
So
36:16
everything
36:17
has
36:17
to
36:17
be
36:17
moisture,
36:18
vapor,
36:18
breathable.
36:19
So
36:19
we're
36:20
now
36:20
using,
36:20
for
36:21
instance,
36:21
on
36:21
all
36:21
new
36:22
builds,
36:22
we're
36:22
using
36:23
mineral
36:23
paints
36:24
on
36:24
all
36:24
of
36:24
our
36:24
walls
36:25
because
36:26
mineral
36:26
paints
36:27
will
36:27
always
36:27
be
36:27
breathable.
36:28
Where
36:28
traditional
36:29
latex
36:29
paints
36:30
are,
36:30
lose
36:30
their
36:30
breathability
36:31
over
36:31
a
36:31
period
36:32
of
36:32
time.
36:33
So
36:33
we
36:33
want
36:33
that
36:33
to
36:33
always
36:34
be
36:34
able
36:34
to
36:34
transfer
36:35
that.
36:35
That
36:35
vapor.
36:36
So
36:37
it's
36:37
interesting,
36:37
here's
36:37
a
36:37
debate
36:38
that
36:38
I
36:38
run
36:38
into.
36:39
Same
36:39
kind
36:39
of
36:39
thing,
36:40
building
36:40
code
36:41
out
36:41
here.
36:41
Depending
36:41
who
36:42
I
36:42
talk
36:42
to,
36:43
depending
36:43
where
36:44
in
36:44
the
36:44
code
36:44
book
36:44
you're
36:45
looking,
36:45
if
36:45
we
36:45
want
36:45
to
36:46
get
36:46
that
36:46
technical.
36:47
And
36:47
I
36:48
got
36:48
into
36:48
this
36:48
debate
36:49
with
36:49
my
36:49
brother
36:49
out
36:50
at
36:50
the
36:50
beach
36:50
house
36:51
because
36:51
we.
36:52
That
36:53
was
36:53
probably
36:54
you
36:54
and
36:54
I
36:55
talked
36:55
about
36:55
it.
36:55
It
36:55
was
36:55
one
36:55
of
36:55
the
36:55
worst
36:56
water
36:56
damaged.
36:57
I.
36:58
It
36:58
was.
36:59
When
36:59
we
36:59
bought
37:00
the
37:00
place,
37:00
it
37:00
had
37:00
tarps
37:02
for
37:02
20
37:02
plus
37:03
years
37:03
on
37:03
the
37:03
roof.
37:04
And
37:04
when
37:04
we
37:04
went
37:05
on
37:05
the
37:05
inspection,
37:05
I
37:06
was
37:06
tyveked
37:06
up.
37:07
We
37:07
had
37:07
respirators
37:08
on
37:08
and
37:09
there
37:09
was
37:09
water
37:10
like
37:10
a
37:10
hose
37:10
running
37:11
out
37:11
of
37:11
the
37:11
middle
37:11
of
37:11
the
37:11
living
37:12
room
37:12
floor.
37:13
And
37:13
the.
37:13
It
37:14
was
37:14
so
37:14
bad
37:14
that
37:15
the
37:15
oak
37:15
hardwood
37:16
floors,
37:16
the
37:17
two
37:17
and
37:17
a
37:17
quarter
37:18
inch
37:18
oak
37:18
wood
37:18
hardwood
37:19
floors,
37:19
had
37:19
expanded
37:20
so
37:20
much
37:21
that
37:21
in
37:21
the
37:21
middle
37:21
of
37:21
the
37:22
room,
37:22
the
37:22
two
37:22
pieces
37:23
had
37:23
swollen
37:24
up
37:24
so
37:24
high
37:24
that,
37:25
that
37:25
they
37:25
were
37:26
back
37:26
to
37:26
back
37:27
on
37:27
edge
37:28
in
37:28
the
37:28
middle
37:29
of
37:29
the
37:29
floor.
37:30
So
37:31
huge
37:32
moisture
37:32
problem.
37:33
But
37:34
when
37:34
you
37:35
read
37:35
through
37:35
building
37:35
code
37:36
out
37:36
there,
37:37
they
37:38
were
37:38
saying
37:38
that
37:38
before
37:39
drywall,
37:39
they
37:40
wanted
37:40
a
37:40
vapor
37:41
barrier
37:41
there,
37:41
they
37:41
wanted
37:42
plastic.
37:42
And
37:42
I'm
37:43
like,
37:43
we
37:43
have
37:43
a
37:43
vapor
37:44
barrier
37:44
on
37:44
the
37:45
outside
37:45
because
37:45
that
37:46
cedar
37:46
shingle.
37:47
So
37:47
I've
37:47
got
37:48
15
37:48
pound
37:49
felt
37:49
out
37:50
there
37:50
in
37:51
a
37:51
lot
37:51
of
37:51
the
37:51
area
37:52
that
37:52
we
37:53
didn't
37:53
mess
37:53
with.
37:53
And
37:54
in
37:54
the
37:54
other
37:54
ones
37:54
we
37:55
had
37:55
WRB
37:56
there.
37:56
But
37:57
I'm
37:57
like,
37:58
I
37:58
don't
37:58
want
37:58
to
37:58
put
37:59
a
37:59
moisture
38:00
sandwich
38:00
together
38:01
here.
38:01
There's
38:02
no
38:02
place
38:02
for
38:02
it
38:03
to
38:03
go.
38:03
And
38:03
the
38:03
guy
38:03
goes,
38:04
you
38:05
have.
38:05
He
38:05
goes.
38:06
And
38:06
it
38:06
was
38:06
funny
38:06
how
38:06
we
38:06
asked
38:07
him
38:07
and
38:07
the
38:07
building
38:08
inspector
38:08
went,
38:09
you've
38:09
got
38:09
a
38:10
moisture
38:11
barrier
38:11
on
38:11
the
38:11
outside.
38:11
I'll
38:12
count
38:12
that
38:12
as
38:12
the
38:12
inside.
38:13
And
38:14
I
38:14
went,
38:14
see?
38:15
Okay.
38:15
He
38:16
knew
38:16
what
38:16
the
38:16
problem
38:16
was
38:16
with
38:17
the
38:17
code
38:17
because
38:17
we
38:17
went,
38:18
right.
38:18
And
38:18
he
38:19
goes.
38:19
And
38:19
it
38:19
was
38:19
out
38:19
on
38:20
the
38:20
coast,
38:20
you're
38:20
a
38:20
block
38:21
from
38:21
the
38:21
water.
38:21
And
38:21
it's.
38:22
And
38:22
he's,
38:22
yeah,
38:23
we
38:23
don't
38:23
need
38:23
two
38:24
vapor
38:24
barriers
38:24
there.
38:25
And
38:25
I'm
38:25
like,
38:26
yeah,
38:27
I
38:27
think
38:28
a.
38:28
Lot
38:28
of
38:29
the
38:29
problem
38:29
is
38:30
the
38:30
interpretation
38:31
of
38:31
the
38:31
codes.
38:32
And
38:32
as
38:32
you
38:33
found
38:33
out,
38:33
you
38:33
had
38:33
that
38:34
inspector
38:35
interpreted
38:35
it
38:36
in
38:37
your
38:37
favor
38:37
in
38:38
the
38:38
correct
38:38
way.
38:39
But
38:40
the
38:41
next
38:41
inspector
38:41
may
38:41
not
38:42
do
38:42
that,
38:42
and
38:43
it
38:43
depends
38:43
on
38:43
their
38:44
personal
38:45
experiences.
38:46
Yeah,
38:47
I
38:47
think
38:47
that.
38:47
And
38:48
also,
38:48
I
38:48
think
38:48
there's
38:48
a.
38:49
There's
38:49
a
38:49
misunderstanding
38:50
of
38:50
a
38:51
lot
38:51
of
38:51
the
38:51
terminologies
38:52
and
38:52
the
38:52
codes.
38:52
And
38:52
that
38:52
happens
38:53
by
38:53
both
38:53
the
38:54
builders
38:54
and
38:54
the
38:54
inspectors.
38:55
On
38:55
the
38:56
outside,
38:56
you
38:57
need
38:57
that
38:57
water
38:57
resistant
38:58
barrier.
38:58
On
38:59
the
38:59
inside,
38:59
you
39:00
need
39:00
also
39:01
a
39:01
moisture
39:02
barrier,
39:02
but
39:03
not
39:03
necessarily
39:04
a
39:04
complete
39:05
perm
39:06
rating
39:06
of
39:07
less
39:07
than
39:07
one
39:08
vapor
39:08
barrier.
39:10
But
39:10
it
39:10
gets
39:10
interpreted
39:11
as
39:11
a
39:11
vapor
39:11
barrier.
39:12
And
39:12
then
39:12
you're
39:12
right.
39:13
Where
39:13
does
39:13
the
39:13
water
39:13
go?
39:14
It
39:14
doesn't
39:14
go
39:14
anywhere.
39:14
It
39:14
sits
39:15
in
39:15
the
39:15
walls
39:15
and
39:15
it
39:15
just
39:16
turns
39:16
into
39:16
a
39:16
mold
39:16
factory.
39:17
Yeah,
39:18
it's
39:18
tough.
39:19
It's
39:19
tough.
39:20
And
39:20
so
39:21
that's
39:21
one
39:21
of
39:21
those
39:21
things.
39:22
And
39:22
next
39:22
question
39:22
I
39:23
want
39:23
to
39:23
ask
39:23
you.
39:23
So
39:24
fiberglass
39:24
versus
39:26
mineral
39:26
wool
39:26
type
39:27
insulation.
39:29
If
39:30
money
39:30
and
39:30
time
39:31
are
39:31
no
39:31
object,
39:31
I'm
39:32
doing
39:32
mineral
39:32
wool.
39:33
And
39:33
I
39:34
caveat
39:34
it
39:34
that
39:34
way
39:34
because,
39:36
let's
39:36
face
39:36
it,
39:36
it's
39:37
a
39:37
little
39:37
more
39:37
expensive.
39:38
What
39:38
do
39:38
you
39:38
get
39:38
for
39:38
that?
39:38
You
39:39
get
39:39
a
39:39
product
39:39
that
39:40
will
39:40
not
39:40
retain
39:41
water,
39:41
which
39:42
is
39:42
fantastic.
39:43
You
39:43
get
39:43
a
39:43
product
39:44
that
39:44
has
39:44
a
39:44
better
39:45
R
39:45
value
39:45
per
39:45
inch.
39:46
You
39:46
get
39:47
a
39:47
product
39:47
that
39:47
is
39:47
much
39:48
better
39:48
in
39:48
sound
39:49
control.
39:49
Oh,
39:50
it's
39:50
so
39:50
huge.
39:50
It's
39:51
such
39:51
a
39:51
big
39:51
difference
39:51
on
39:52
sound.
39:53
Exactly.
39:53
So
39:54
what
39:54
we'll
39:54
do
39:55
sometimes,
39:55
depending
39:56
on
39:56
the
39:56
project,
39:56
Eric,
39:56
is
39:57
we'll
39:57
actually
39:57
do
39:58
like
39:58
a
39:58
blown
39:58
in
39:59
blanket
39:59
system
39:59
of
39:59
fiberglass
40:00
for
40:00
the
40:00
exterior
40:01
walls
40:01
and
40:01
then
40:02
in
40:02
the
40:02
interior
40:03
walls
40:03
where
40:03
we
40:03
want
40:03
sound
40:04
control
40:04
between
40:04
bedrooms,
40:05
the
40:05
laundry
40:05
room,
40:06
so
40:06
forth.
40:06
We'll
40:06
use
40:06
the
40:06
mineral
40:07
W.
40:08
That's
40:08
one.
40:08
Thing
40:08
I
40:08
started
40:09
doing
40:09
probably
40:09
15
40:10
years
40:10
ago
40:11
when
40:12
I
40:12
was
40:12
known
40:12
as
40:12
Roxul
40:13
here
40:14
in
40:14
the
40:14
US
40:14
But
40:15
I
40:15
would
40:16
do
40:16
it
40:16
around
40:16
all
40:17
my
40:17
bathroom
40:17
remodels
40:18
because
40:18
there's
40:19
always
40:19
a
40:19
bedroom
40:20
on
40:20
the
40:20
side
40:20
of
40:20
it.
40:21
So
40:22
I
40:22
would
40:22
just
40:22
say,
40:22
hey,
40:23
guys,
40:23
put
40:23
it
40:23
in
40:23
the
40:23
budget.
40:25
Let's
40:25
put
40:25
it
40:25
in
40:26
there.
40:26
Especially
40:26
around
40:26
the
40:27
shower
40:27
and
40:27
the
40:27
toilet
40:28
and
40:28
that
40:28
kind
40:28
of
40:28
stuff.
40:29
Let's
40:29
just
40:30
make
40:30
sure
40:30
that
40:30
we
40:31
get
40:31
that
40:31
in
40:31
there.
40:31
What
40:31
are
40:31
you
40:32
talking
40:32
about?
40:32
I'm
40:32
like,
40:33
it
40:33
will
40:33
make
40:33
such
40:34
a
40:34
difference
40:35
in
40:35
the
40:35
sound
40:35
of
40:35
those
40:36
bedrooms.
40:37
And
40:37
it's
40:37
also
40:38
going
40:38
to
40:38
help
40:38
a
40:38
little
40:39
bit
40:39
if
40:39
there
40:39
was
40:39
a
40:39
fire
40:39
in
40:40
there,
40:40
too.
40:40
That's
40:41
not
40:41
going
40:41
to
40:41
hurt.
40:42
Yeah,
40:43
exactly.
40:43
Right.
40:43
There's
40:44
many
40:44
upsides
40:45
to
40:45
doing
40:45
that.
40:46
The
40:46
downside,
40:46
of
40:47
course,
40:47
is
40:47
the
40:47
cost.
40:47
As
40:48
we've
40:48
talked
40:48
about
40:48
before,
40:49
I
40:49
think
40:50
we
40:51
have
40:51
changed
40:52
the
40:52
way
40:52
we
40:53
build
40:53
things
40:53
just
40:54
to
40:54
keep
40:54
costs
40:55
down.
40:55
And
40:55
those
40:56
changes,
40:56
for
40:56
the
40:56
most
40:57
part,
40:57
haven't
40:57
been
40:59
positive.
40:59
And
41:00
so
41:00
we
41:00
need
41:00
to
41:00
get
41:00
back
41:01
to
41:01
the
41:01
true
41:02
costs
41:02
of
41:02
building
41:03
good
41:03
quality
41:04
homes.
41:04
And
41:05
something
41:05
like
41:05
this
41:06
is
41:06
a
41:06
really
41:06
good
41:07
attribute
41:07
to
41:07
have.
41:08
Yeah.
41:08
And
41:08
code
41:09
has
41:09
got
41:09
to
41:09
get
41:09
up
41:09
there.
41:10
Even
41:10
code.
41:10
Great
41:10
example.
41:12
If
41:12
I
41:12
walk
41:12
into
41:12
my
41:13
Home
41:13
Depot
41:13
store.
41:13
Yeah,
41:14
Home
41:14
Depot
41:15
and
41:15
Bro
41:15
Newtone,
41:16
I'm
41:16
calling
41:16
you
41:16
out
41:16
on
41:16
this.
41:17
If
41:17
I
41:18
walk
41:18
into
41:18
my
41:18
ventilation
41:19
aisle
41:19
there
41:19
on
41:20
the
41:20
shelf,
41:20
even
41:20
though
41:20
it
41:20
hasn't
41:21
been
41:21
building
41:21
code
41:22
for
41:22
20
41:23
years,
41:23
I
41:24
can
41:24
get
41:24
a
41:25
forehead
41:25
duster,
41:26
bent
41:27
hood
41:28
that
41:28
won't
41:28
vent
41:28
to
41:28
the
41:29
outside
41:29
for
41:29
the
41:29
kitchen.
41:30
Right.
41:30
Blows
41:31
it
41:31
right
41:31
back
41:31
in
41:31
your
41:31
face,
41:32
which
41:32
does
41:33
virtually
41:33
nothing.
41:34
And
41:35
it
41:35
drives
41:35
me
41:36
nuts.
41:36
And
41:36
usually
41:37
once
41:37
a
41:37
year
41:37
I'll
41:37
do
41:37
a,
41:38
I'll
41:38
do
41:39
a
41:39
radio
41:40
show
41:40
and
41:40
podcast
41:41
on
41:41
My
41:41
10
41:41
Favorite
41:41
Things
41:42
at
41:42
the
41:42
home
41:42
improvement
41:42
store
41:43
that
41:43
doesn't
41:43
meet
41:43
building
41:43
code
41:44
or
41:44
you
41:45
shouldn't
41:45
use.
41:46
And
41:46
it's
41:47
crazy.
41:47
And
41:48
I
41:48
look
41:48
at
41:48
it
41:48
and
41:49
go,
41:49
look
41:50
guys,
41:50
that
41:50
hasn't
41:50
met
41:50
code
41:52
here
41:52
for
41:52
20
41:53
plus
41:53
years.
41:54
Washington,
41:54
the
41:54
next
41:55
state
41:55
over
41:56
probably
41:56
20
41:57
plus
41:57
years.
41:58
Why
41:58
are
41:58
we
41:59
selling
41:59
these?
42:01
Yeah,
42:02
I
42:03
see
42:03
these
42:03
Zillow
42:04
listings
42:04
for
42:05
multimillion
42:05
dollar
42:05
homes,
42:06
these
42:06
beautiful
42:06
kitchens
42:07
and
42:07
they
42:07
have
42:07
a
42:07
microwave
42:08
above
42:08
the
42:08
range
42:09
that
42:09
recirculates.
42:10
Drives
42:11
me
42:11
nuts.
42:12
Makes
42:12
zero
42:13
sense.
42:13
It
42:14
doesn't
42:14
do
42:14
a
42:14
thing.
42:14
And
42:15
if
42:15
you
42:15
look
42:15
at
42:15
the.
42:16
One
42:16
of
42:16
the
42:16
big
42:16
conversations
42:17
right
42:17
now
42:17
in
42:17
the
42:18
industry
42:18
is
42:19
talking
42:19
about
42:19
gas
42:20
versus
42:20
electric.
42:21
Right.
42:21
What's
42:22
what,
42:22
which
42:22
one
42:23
is
42:23
better
42:23
for
42:23
the
42:23
environment,
42:24
which
42:24
is
42:24
better
42:24
for
42:24
the
42:25
occupants.
42:25
And
42:26
I
42:26
will
42:26
argue
42:27
with
42:27
anybody
42:28
that
42:28
a
42:29
gas
42:29
range
42:30
is
42:30
perfectly
42:31
safe
42:31
if
42:32
you
42:33
have
42:33
and
42:33
you
42:34
use
42:34
a
42:35
vented
42:35
to
42:35
the
42:36
outside
42:36
range
42:36
hood
42:37
and
42:37
you
42:37
use
42:37
it
42:37
properly
42:38
and
42:38
you
42:39
make
42:39
sure
42:39
to
42:40
test
42:40
all
42:40
your
42:40
gas
42:41
connections
42:41
on
42:41
an
42:41
annual
42:42
basis
42:42
to
42:42
make
42:42
sure
42:42
they're
42:42
not
42:43
leaking.
42:43
Even
42:44
if
42:44
you
42:44
had
42:44
an
42:44
electric
42:45
range
42:45
top,
42:45
an
42:45
induction
42:46
range
42:46
top,
42:47
if
42:47
you
42:47
don't
42:48
use
42:48
your
42:48
range
42:48
hood
42:49
and
42:49
that
42:49
exhaust
42:50
to
42:50
the
42:50
outside,
42:51
all
42:51
of
42:51
those
42:51
VOCs
42:52
and
42:52
other
42:53
pollutants
42:53
that
42:53
get
42:53
created
42:54
during
42:54
cooking,
42:54
stay
42:55
in
42:55
your
42:55
house.
42:56
So
42:56
it's
42:56
you
42:56
really.
42:57
It
42:57
comes
42:57
down
42:57
to
42:57
ventilation.
42:58
It
42:58
does.
42:59
And
42:59
when
42:59
you
43:00
look
43:00
at
43:00
the
43:01
ingredients
43:02
these
43:02
days
43:02
that
43:03
are
43:03
in
43:03
our
43:03
foods
43:04
that
43:05
now
43:05
we're
43:05
baking
43:07
and
43:07
cooking
43:08
on
43:08
the
43:08
top
43:08
of
43:08
that
43:09
they're
43:10
going
43:10
someplace
43:11
that
43:11
smoke
43:12
is
43:12
burnt
43:13
protein,
43:14
burnt
43:15
chemicals,
43:16
burnt
43:16
oils.
43:18
And
43:18
that's
43:19
what
43:19
that
43:19
is.
43:20
And
43:21
people
43:21
still
43:22
to
43:22
this
43:22
day
43:22
I
43:22
can
43:23
walk
43:23
in
43:23
and
43:23
go,
43:24
I
43:24
noticed
43:25
this
43:25
really
43:25
after
43:26
I.
43:27
One
43:27
of
43:27
the
43:27
things
43:27
I
43:27
did
43:28
as
43:28
a
43:28
kitchen
43:28
designer
43:28
is
43:29
I
43:29
like
43:29
to
43:29
go
43:29
back
43:29
at
43:30
the
43:30
one
43:30
year
43:30
mark,
43:31
right
43:31
before
43:31
the
43:31
one
43:31
year
43:32
mark
43:32
and
43:33
revisit
43:33
things
43:33
through
43:34
them.
43:34
One,
43:34
I
43:35
learned
43:35
a
43:35
lot
43:35
on
43:36
the
43:36
design
43:36
side
43:36
of
43:36
what
43:37
they
43:37
Liked
43:37
or
43:37
what
43:37
they
43:38
didn't.
43:39
And
43:39
then
43:39
I
43:39
could
43:39
see
43:39
how
43:39
the
43:40
performance
43:40
was
43:41
because
43:41
it
43:41
really
43:41
gave
43:42
me
43:42
a
43:42
snapshot
43:42
of
43:42
how
43:43
things
43:43
looked.
43:43
It
43:43
was
43:43
really
43:44
cool
43:44
to
43:44
go
43:44
back
43:45
and
43:45
test
43:45
it
43:45
and
43:46
look
43:46
and
43:46
get
43:46
their
43:46
opinion.
43:47
And
43:48
I
43:48
learned
43:49
a
43:49
lot
43:49
that
43:49
way.
43:49
I'd
43:50
look
43:50
at
43:50
the
43:50
bandhood
43:51
and
43:51
I'm
43:51
like,
43:52
wow,
43:52
it's
43:52
dirty.
43:52
And
43:53
wow.
43:54
The.
43:54
I
43:55
don't
43:55
think
43:55
you've
43:55
ever
43:55
taken
43:56
the
43:56
mesh
43:56
screen
43:57
out
43:57
of
43:57
there.
43:57
Are
43:58
you
43:58
even
43:58
using
43:58
it?
43:58
Yeah.
43:59
It
44:00
moves
44:00
a
44:00
lot
44:00
of
44:00
air,
44:00
but
44:00
it's
44:01
too
44:01
loud.
44:02
Ok.
44:02
Yeah.
44:03
Really?
44:04
Yeah.
44:04
The
44:04
inconveniences
44:05
that
44:05
we
44:06
have
44:06
to
44:06
deal
44:06
with.
44:06
Oh,
44:06
my
44:07
gosh.
44:07
The
44:07
noise.
44:08
You're
44:08
cooking
44:08
in
44:09
a
44:09
kitchen.
44:09
You're
44:10
making
44:10
noise
44:10
with
44:10
the
44:10
pots
44:11
and
44:11
pans.
44:12
You
44:12
know
44:12
what?
44:12
If
44:13
you
44:13
can't
44:13
hear
44:13
your
44:14
television
44:14
while
44:14
you're
44:14
cooking
44:15
because
44:15
you
44:15
got
44:15
the
44:15
fan.
44:16
On,
44:16
turn
44:17
up
44:17
the
44:17
television.
44:17
Evaluate
44:18
priorities
44:19
a
44:19
little
44:19
bit.
44:19
Exactly.
44:20
Yeah.
44:21
And
44:21
it's
44:21
crazy.
44:21
So
44:22
it's
44:22
just
44:22
one
44:22
of
44:22
those
44:22
things
44:22
that.
44:22
I
44:23
agree.
44:23
And
44:23
the
44:23
same
44:24
goes
44:24
with
44:24
bath
44:24
fans.
44:25
I
44:25
happily
44:26
hear
44:26
they've
44:26
added
44:27
code
44:27
that
44:27
you
44:27
got
44:27
to
44:27
put
44:28
the.
44:28
You
44:28
gotta
44:29
have
44:29
a
44:29
timer
44:29
at
44:29
least
44:29
on
44:30
it.
44:30
But
44:30
at
44:31
the
44:31
same
44:31
point,
44:32
I
44:32
think
44:32
the
44:33
one
44:33
thing
44:33
that
44:33
I
44:34
learned
44:34
the
44:34
most
44:34
in
44:35
my
44:35
house
44:35
was
44:35
putting
44:36
in
44:37
air
44:37
quality
44:38
monitors
44:38
that
44:39
I
44:39
could
44:39
jump
44:39
on
44:39
my
44:39
phone
44:40
and
44:40
look
44:40
at
44:40
and
44:41
a
44:41
handheld
44:42
one
44:42
that
44:42
I
44:42
could
44:42
go
44:42
around
44:42
and
44:43
take
44:43
with
44:43
me,
44:43
and
44:44
I
44:44
would
44:44
set
44:44
it
44:44
down
44:44
on
44:45
the
44:45
couch
44:45
next
44:45
to
44:45
me
44:46
when
44:46
I
44:46
would
44:46
watch
44:46
television
44:47
or
44:47
if
44:47
I
44:47
was
44:47
cooking,
44:48
I'd
44:48
set
44:48
it
44:48
on
44:48
the
44:49
counter
44:50
and
44:50
I'd
44:50
be
44:50
like,
44:51
hey,
44:51
why
44:51
is
44:51
that
44:51
beeping?
44:52
Oh,
44:53
look
44:53
what's
44:53
coming
44:53
out
44:53
of
44:53
that
44:54
$20
44:55
online
44:56
fast
44:57
fashion
44:57
pillow
44:57
that
44:58
someone
44:58
ordered.
44:59
Wow,
44:59
look
44:59
what's
45:00
coming
45:00
out
45:00
of
45:00
that.
45:00
That's
45:01
scary.
45:02
Yeah.
45:02
I
45:02
think
45:03
having
45:04
access
45:04
to
45:05
information
45:05
is
45:06
always
45:06
helpful,
45:07
and
45:07
so
45:08
I'd
45:08
certainly
45:08
encourage
45:09
whatever
45:09
brand
45:09
you
45:10
want
45:10
to
45:10
work
45:10
with.
45:10
These
45:11
whole
45:11
home
45:11
detectors
45:12
and
45:13
the
45:13
ones
45:13
that
45:13
go
45:14
right
45:14
to
45:14
your
45:14
phone
45:14
and
45:15
alert
45:15
you
45:15
if
45:15
something's
45:16
going
45:16
on.
45:16
Even
45:17
the
45:17
handheld
45:17
equipment,
45:18
I
45:18
absolutely
45:18
love
45:18
having
45:19
and
45:19
using.
45:20
But
45:20
I
45:20
always
45:21
caution
45:21
people,
45:22
you
45:22
have
45:22
to
45:22
be
45:23
really
45:23
mindful
45:23
of
45:24
what
45:24
else
45:24
is
45:24
occurring
45:24
in
45:25
the
45:25
house.
45:26
So
45:26
I
45:26
had
45:26
a
45:26
situation
45:27
just
45:27
a
45:27
couple
45:28
of
45:28
years
45:28
ago
45:28
where
45:28
we
45:28
were
45:29
doing
45:29
a
45:29
very
45:29
intricate
45:30
VOC
45:31
and
45:31
formaldehyde
45:32
test
45:32
in
45:32
a
45:32
home.
45:33
And
45:33
it's
45:33
a
45:33
test
45:34
kit
45:34
system
45:34
that
45:35
we'd
45:35
send
45:35
out.
45:36
The
45:36
homeowner
45:37
would
45:37
do
45:37
the
45:37
test
45:37
and
45:38
then
45:38
send
45:38
it
45:38
back
45:38
to
45:38
the
45:38
lab.
45:39
And
45:39
the
45:40
numbers
45:40
came
45:40
back
45:40
staggeringly
45:41
high.
45:41
And
45:42
he's.
45:42
I
45:42
don't
45:42
know
45:42
what
45:43
to
45:43
do
45:43
at
45:43
this
45:43
point
45:43
because
45:43
we've
45:44
exhausted
45:44
all
45:44
the
45:45
Other
45:45
ideas
45:45
we
45:45
had
45:46
to
45:46
fix
45:46
this
45:46
house.
45:47
And
45:48
about
45:48
a
45:48
week
45:48
later,
45:48
he
45:49
calls
45:49
me
45:49
up
45:49
and
45:49
he
45:49
said,
45:50
I
45:50
gotta
45:50
tell
45:50
you,
45:51
during
45:52
the
45:52
test,
45:53
which
45:53
takes
45:53
about
45:53
20
45:54
minutes,
45:54
I
45:54
went
45:54
upstairs
45:55
to
45:55
give
45:55
myself
45:55
an
45:56
insulin
45:56
shot,
45:56
and
45:57
I
45:57
used
45:57
a
45:57
little
45:57
bit
45:57
of
45:57
alcohol
45:58
to
45:58
clean
45:59
my
45:59
skin.
46:00
Mike.
46:00
There
46:00
you
46:00
go.
46:00
There
46:01
you
46:01
go.
46:01
It's
46:01
amazing
46:02
how
46:02
detailed
46:03
these.
46:03
These
46:04
systems
46:04
are,
46:04
so
46:05
you
46:05
really
46:05
have
46:05
to
46:05
be
46:05
mindful
46:06
of
46:06
that.
46:06
So
46:06
if
46:06
you're
46:06
doing.
46:08
If
46:08
you
46:08
have
46:08
a
46:08
handheld,
46:09
make
46:09
sure
46:09
you're
46:10
doing
46:10
it
46:10
two
46:10
hours
46:11
after
46:11
you
46:12
took
46:12
a
46:12
shower
46:13
and
46:13
put
46:13
on
46:13
hairspray.
46:14
Exactly.
46:14
A
46:14
couple
46:15
hours
46:15
after
46:15
cooking,
46:15
things
46:16
like
46:16
that,
46:16
you
46:16
have
46:16
to
46:16
be
46:16
mindful
46:17
of
46:17
that.
46:17
Great,
46:17
great
46:18
idea.
46:18
Yeah,
46:18
that's.
46:19
I've
46:19
seen
46:20
that
46:20
happen,
46:20
too.
46:20
Where
46:20
it
46:21
just.
46:21
Absolutely.
46:21
I
46:21
forgot
46:22
about
46:22
that.
46:22
Where
46:22
it
46:22
just
46:23
completely
46:23
throws
46:24
off
46:24
the.
46:25
The
46:25
thing.
46:25
And
46:25
I've
46:25
noticed
46:26
that,
46:26
too.
46:26
Giving
46:26
the
46:27
dog
46:27
a
46:27
bath
46:27
or
46:27
something.
46:28
Walk
46:28
by
46:28
the
46:29
one
46:29
sensor,
46:29
and
46:29
you're
46:29
like,
46:30
what
46:30
was
46:30
that?
46:31
Okay,
46:31
that
46:31
was
46:31
from
46:31
the
46:32
soap,
46:33
and
46:33
it
46:33
was
46:33
green
46:34
soap,
46:34
too,
46:35
but
46:35
it
46:35
just
46:35
didn't
46:36
like
46:36
it,
46:36
and
46:36
the
46:37
humidity
46:37
was
46:37
off.
46:37
And
46:38
I'm
46:38
like,
46:38
oh,
46:38
okay.
46:38
That's
46:39
what
46:39
it
46:39
is.
46:39
And,
46:39
yep,
46:40
it's
46:40
amazing.
46:41
We're
46:41
running
46:41
out
46:41
of
46:41
time
46:42
here
46:42
for
46:42
the
46:43
radio
46:43
show,
46:43
but
46:44
wanted
46:45
to
46:45
talk
46:45
liquids
46:46
a
46:46
little
46:46
bit
46:46
with
46:46
you.
46:47
What's
46:47
new
46:47
in
46:47
your
46:47
world
46:48
of
46:48
whiskeys
46:49
and
46:49
scotches
46:49
out
46:50
there?
46:50
Oh,
46:51
boy.
46:51
As
46:52
anybody
46:52
who's
46:52
heard
46:53
me
46:53
on
46:53
here
46:53
before
46:53
knows,
46:55
I
46:55
am
46:55
a
46:55
scotch
46:56
whiskey
46:56
and
46:57
bourbon
46:57
sommelier.
46:58
So
46:59
I
46:59
do,
46:59
in
47:00
my
47:00
spare
47:00
time,
47:01
for
47:01
a
47:01
hobby,
47:01
I
47:02
conduct
47:03
whiskey
47:03
classes.
47:05
And
47:05
so
47:05
whether
47:05
it's
47:06
for
47:06
somebody's
47:06
birthday,
47:07
whether
47:07
it's
47:07
a
47:07
corporate
47:08
event,
47:09
and
47:09
so
47:10
I
47:10
have
47:10
to
47:10
do
47:11
enough
47:12
research
47:13
and
47:13
education
47:14
so
47:14
I
47:14
know
47:15
what
47:15
I'm
47:15
talking
47:15
about.
47:17
Which.
47:17
It's
47:18
a
47:18
tough
47:18
task,
47:18
Eric,
47:19
because
47:19
somebody's
47:19
got
47:19
to
47:19
do
47:19
it.
47:21
Sounds
47:21
horrible.
47:22
Sounds
47:23
horrible.
47:24
Yeah.
47:24
Yeah.
47:25
Pray
47:25
for
47:26
me.
47:26
Yeah,
47:26
I'm
47:26
praying
47:26
for
47:27
you.
47:27
Yeah,
47:27
I'll
47:27
pray
47:27
to
47:27
the
47:28
whiskey
47:28
gods
47:28
for
47:29
you
47:29
as
47:29
well.
47:30
So
47:30
I'm
47:31
doing
47:31
an
47:31
event
47:31
coming
47:31
up
47:32
here
47:32
in
47:32
a
47:32
couple
47:32
of
47:32
months
47:33
for
47:33
a
47:34
client.
47:34
I
47:34
think
47:34
this
47:34
is
47:34
my
47:35
fifth
47:35
or
47:35
sixth
47:35
one
47:35
now
47:36
for
47:36
him
47:36
in
47:36
his
47:37
family.
47:38
And
47:38
he
47:39
says,
47:39
all
47:39
right,
47:39
what
47:39
are
47:40
we
47:40
going
47:40
to
47:40
taste
47:40
this
47:40
year?
47:40
Because
47:41
we've
47:41
done
47:41
everything
47:41
else.
47:41
Scotches,
47:42
bourbons,
47:42
you
47:42
name
47:43
it.
47:43
So
47:43
I
47:43
came
47:43
up
47:43
with
47:44
a
47:44
whiskey
47:45
topic,
47:45
and
47:45
it's
47:46
called
47:47
Oddities.
47:48
And
47:49
so
47:49
I'm
47:49
working
47:49
on
47:49
the
47:50
title.
47:50
Oddities
47:51
of
47:51
mash
47:51
Bills
47:52
and
47:52
Curious
47:53
Casks.
47:54
Oh.
47:54
So
47:55
it
47:56
broadens
47:57
up
47:57
to.
47:58
It
47:58
can
47:58
be
47:58
a
47:59
bourbon,
47:59
a
47:59
scotch,
48:00
an
48:00
American
48:00
whiskey,
48:01
another
48:02
malt
48:02
whiskey
48:03
from
48:03
around
48:03
the
48:03
world.
48:04
But
48:04
what
48:05
we're
48:05
doing
48:05
is
48:05
we're
48:06
going
48:06
to
48:06
be
48:06
tasting
48:07
whiskeys
48:08
that
48:08
have.
48:09
That
48:09
are
48:09
against
48:10
the
48:10
grain,
48:10
so
48:11
to
48:11
speak.
48:11
I
48:11
like
48:11
that
48:12
instead
48:12
of
48:12
using
48:13
corn,
48:14
rye,
48:15
barley,
48:15
and
48:15
wheat,
48:17
they're
48:17
using
48:17
things
48:18
like
48:18
spelt
48:18
and
48:19
millet.
48:19
Or
48:20
I'm
48:20
tasting
48:21
one
48:21
now,
48:21
which
48:21
is
48:21
100%
48:22
rice
48:23
from
48:24
Louisiana.
48:25
I'll
48:25
tell
48:26
you
48:26
what,
48:26
if
48:27
you
48:27
expand
48:28
beyond
48:28
just
48:28
your
48:29
traditional
48:29
bourbons
48:30
and
48:30
traditional
48:30
scotches,
48:31
there
48:31
are
48:32
so
48:32
many
48:32
interesting
48:33
and
48:33
amazing
48:33
flavors
48:34
out
48:34
there.
48:35
It's
48:35
really
48:35
remarkable
48:36
what
48:36
these
48:36
distillers
48:37
are
48:37
doing
48:37
right
48:37
now
48:38
in
48:38
their
48:39
endeavor
48:40
to
48:40
try
48:40
to
48:40
find
48:40
the
48:41
next
48:41
great
48:41
spirit.
48:42
And.
48:42
And
48:42
I've
48:43
been
48:43
really
48:43
blown
48:43
away
48:44
by
48:44
how
48:44
good
48:44
some
48:45
of
48:45
these
48:45
are.
48:45
What's
48:46
funny,
48:46
too,
48:46
is
48:46
you
48:47
start
48:47
to
48:47
see
48:47
it,
48:47
and
48:47
it's,
48:48
oh,
48:48
here
48:48
I'll
48:48
see
48:48
somebody
48:49
doing
48:49
one
48:49
that's
48:50
been
48:50
aged
48:50
in
48:50
a
48:51
Pinot
48:51
noir
48:52
barrel
48:52
or
48:53
red
48:53
wine.
48:53
Or
48:53
you're
48:54
seeing
48:54
all
48:54
these
48:54
different
48:55
kind
48:55
of,
48:56
pardon
48:56
the
48:56
pun,
48:56
mashups
48:57
of
48:58
all
48:58
of
48:59
this,
48:59
and
48:59
it's
48:59
just,
48:59
wow,
49:00
okay,
49:00
that's
49:01
interesting.
49:01
And
49:01
they
49:02
all
49:02
have
49:02
such
49:02
wildly
49:03
different
49:04
flavor
49:04
profiles.
49:05
Oh,
49:06
they
49:06
do,
49:06
they
49:07
do.
49:07
And
49:07
so
49:07
that's
49:07
why
49:08
I
49:08
love
49:08
doing
49:08
these
49:08
events,
49:09
because
49:09
I
49:10
think
49:10
we're
49:10
all
49:10
creatures
49:11
of
49:11
habit.
49:11
And
49:11
so
49:12
it's.
49:12
I'll
49:12
just.
49:13
If
49:13
you
49:13
like
49:13
Maker's
49:14
Mark
49:14
and
49:14
you're
49:14
going
49:14
to
49:14
drink
49:14
Maker's
49:15
Mark
49:15
all
49:15
the
49:15
time,
49:15
that's
49:16
wonderful.
49:17
But
49:17
expand
49:17
your
49:18
horizon
49:18
a
49:18
little
49:18
bit
49:18
and
49:19
understand
49:19
that
49:19
you
49:20
may
49:20
find
49:20
something
49:21
that
49:21
has
49:21
that
49:21
same
49:22
flavor
49:23
profile,
49:24
but
49:24
it
49:25
goes
49:25
in
49:25
a
49:25
different
49:25
direction.
49:26
It's
49:26
like
49:26
wine.
49:27
When
49:27
people
49:27
say,
49:28
do
49:28
you
49:28
like
49:28
red
49:28
or
49:28
white?
49:29
Okay,
49:29
yes,
49:29
I
49:29
like
49:30
them
49:30
both.
49:30
Yeah.
49:30
But
49:31
now
49:32
you
49:32
give
49:32
me
49:33
a
49:33
whiskey
49:33
that
49:33
you
49:34
really
49:34
love,
49:34
and
49:34
it's
49:34
like
49:34
your
49:35
go
49:35
to
49:35
whiskey.
49:35
I
49:36
will
49:36
give
49:36
you
49:37
30
49:37
or
49:37
40
49:37
others
49:38
that
49:38
you
49:38
should
49:38
try
49:39
that
49:39
are
49:39
almost
49:40
the
49:40
same,
49:40
but
49:40
a
49:41
different
49:41
enough
49:42
that,
49:42
that
49:42
you
49:42
go,
49:42
huh,
49:43
that's
49:43
interesting.
49:44
And
49:44
yeah.
49:45
And
49:45
especially
49:45
nowadays
49:46
because
49:46
just
49:46
in
49:46
the
49:47
last
49:47
couple
49:47
of
49:47
years
49:48
here
49:48
in
49:48
the
49:48
US
49:49
We've
49:50
actually
49:50
developed
49:51
a
49:51
new
49:51
product
49:51
category
49:52
called
49:52
American
49:53
single
49:54
malt.
49:54
Yeah.
49:56
And
49:56
you
49:56
know
49:56
that
49:57
you
49:57
got
49:57
a
49:57
couple
49:57
of
49:58
great
49:58
producers,
49:58
right,
49:58
in
49:58
Portland.
49:59
Absolutely.
50:00
Yeah.
50:00
Yeah.
50:01
And
50:01
so
50:02
that's.
50:02
For
50:02
me,
50:02
that's
50:02
one
50:02
of
50:02
my
50:03
favorite.
50:03
My
50:03
favorite
50:04
drinks
50:04
now
50:05
is
50:05
an
50:05
American
50:05
single
50:05
malt.
50:06
And
50:06
it's
50:07
not
50:07
Scotch,
50:08
technically.
50:09
Right?
50:10
It's
50:10
not.
50:10
Yeah.
50:11
I
50:11
mean,
50:11
it's
50:11
made
50:12
the
50:12
exact
50:12
same
50:12
way,
50:13
the
50:13
exact
50:13
same
50:13
ingredients,
50:14
but
50:14
it's
50:14
made
50:14
here
50:15
in
50:15
the
50:15
US
50:15
So
50:16
the
50:16
difference
50:16
is
50:17
the
50:18
climate
50:19
for
50:19
maturation.
50:20
The
50:20
difference
50:21
is
50:21
the
50:21
water.
50:22
That's
50:22
a
50:23
huge
50:23
difference,
50:23
Right?
50:24
Huge
50:24
difference.
50:24
And
50:25
the.
50:25
For
50:25
instance,
50:26
in
50:26
Scotland,
50:26
they
50:27
distill
50:27
everything
50:27
twice.
50:28
Scotch.
50:28
It
50:29
has
50:29
to
50:29
be
50:29
distilled
50:29
twice.
50:30
It
50:30
can
50:30
be
50:30
distilled
50:30
three
50:31
times,
50:31
but
50:32
two
50:32
times
50:32
is
50:32
the
50:32
minimum
50:33
here
50:33
in
50:33
the
50:33
U.S.
50:34
single
50:34
distillation.
50:35
Yeah,
50:35
that's
50:36
what
50:36
bourbon
50:36
is.
50:37
They're
50:37
doing
50:37
that
50:37
with
50:37
single
50:37
malts.
50:38
And
50:38
what
50:39
I
50:39
like
50:39
about
50:39
that
50:39
is
50:40
it's
50:40
more
50:40
of
50:40
a
50:41
raw
50:41
flavor.
50:42
You
50:42
get
50:42
all
50:42
the
50:43
flavor.
50:43
Yeah,
50:44
exactly.
50:45
So
50:45
it's
50:45
funny,
50:45
my
50:46
cheap.
50:46
Go
50:46
to
50:48
sitting
50:48
down,
50:49
throw
50:50
it
50:50
on
50:50
a
50:50
piece
50:50
of
50:50
ice.
50:51
I've
50:51
been
50:52
drinking
50:52
now
50:52
the
50:52
Tex
50:53
blended
50:53
whiskey
50:54
out
50:54
of
50:54
Texas.
50:55
Yeah,
50:56
okay.
50:56
I
50:56
love
50:56
it.
50:57
It's
50:57
easy,
50:58
it's
50:58
caramelly.
50:58
I
50:59
don't
50:59
have
50:59
to
50:59
throw
50:59
anything
51:00
on
51:00
it.
51:01
It's
51:01
just.
51:01
It's
51:02
inexpensive
51:03
and
51:03
I
51:03
enjoy
51:04
it.
51:04
That's
51:04
my.
51:05
It's
51:05
been
51:05
a
51:05
rough
51:06
day.
51:06
I'm
51:06
going
51:06
to
51:06
sit
51:06
back
51:07
and
51:07
kick
51:07
back
51:08
and
51:09
sip
51:09
on
51:09
two
51:10
fingers.
51:10
Just
51:10
that
51:11
kind
51:11
of.
51:12
Just
51:12
chill,
51:13
nothing
51:14
expensive,
51:14
but
51:14
just.
51:15
It's
51:16
as
51:16
inexpensive
51:17
as
51:17
anything
51:17
else
51:17
out
51:18
there
51:18
is
51:18
on
51:18
that
51:19
kind
51:19
of
51:19
what
51:19
I.
51:19
It's
51:20
not,
51:20
it's.
51:21
It's
51:21
not
51:22
the
51:22
low
51:22
shelf
51:22
stuff,
51:23
but
51:23
it's
51:23
just
51:23
the
51:23
good,
51:23
drinkable,
51:24
easy
51:24
stuff.
51:25
Yeah.
51:25
I
51:26
appreciate
51:26
anything
51:26
in
51:27
the
51:27
20
51:27
to
51:27
$30
51:28
a
51:28
bottle
51:28
range
51:29
because
51:30
you're
51:30
gonna
51:30
get
51:30
some.
51:31
You're
51:31
gonna
51:31
get
51:31
quality.
51:32
It's
51:32
produced
51:32
in
51:33
a
51:33
quality
51:33
manner.
51:34
It
51:34
just
51:34
might
51:34
be
51:35
mass
51:35
produced.
51:35
And
51:36
so
51:36
what?
51:36
I
51:36
don't
51:37
care.
51:38
People
51:38
laugh
51:38
at
51:38
me
51:39
when
51:39
I
51:39
say
51:39
this,
51:39
but
51:39
I've
51:40
done
51:40
a
51:40
lot
51:40
of
51:41
what
51:41
are
51:41
called
51:41
blind
51:42
tasting
51:42
events.
51:42
All
51:43
the
51:43
glasses
51:43
are
51:44
nondescript.
51:45
You
51:45
don't
51:45
know
51:45
what
51:45
the
51:45
bottle
51:46
is.
51:46
You
51:46
don't
51:46
even.
51:46
I
51:47
don't
51:47
even
51:47
tell
51:47
you
51:47
what
51:47
the
51:47
mash
51:48
bill
51:48
is
51:48
until
51:48
you
51:48
try
51:49
it.
51:49
And
51:49
then
51:49
we
51:49
rate
51:50
it.
51:50
There's
51:51
a
51:51
whiskey
51:51
out
51:51
there
51:51
called
51:52
Mellow
51:52
Corn,
51:53
and
51:53
if
51:53
you've
51:54
ever
51:54
seen
51:54
Mellow
51:54
Corn,
51:55
I've
51:55
seen
51:55
it.
51:56
Never
51:56
tried
51:56
it.
51:57
It's
51:58
bright
51:58
yellow
51:58
in
51:58
color.
51:59
It
51:59
is
52:00
like
52:00
a
52:00
green
52:01
label
52:01
with
52:01
a
52:02
yellow
52:02
ear
52:02
of
52:03
corn
52:03
on
52:03
the
52:03
front.
52:03
It's
52:04
obnoxious.
52:05
And
52:05
it's
52:05
going
52:05
to
52:05
be
52:05
all
52:06
the
52:06
way
52:06
down
52:06
to
52:06
the
52:06
bottom
52:06
of
52:06
the
52:06
shelf.
52:07
Right.
52:07
It's
52:07
about
52:07
16
52:08
bucks
52:08
a
52:08
bottle.
52:09
But
52:09
I
52:10
will
52:10
tell
52:10
you,
52:10
when
52:10
I
52:11
do
52:11
blind
52:12
tastings,
52:13
especially
52:13
when
52:13
I'm
52:13
doing
52:14
blind
52:14
tastings
52:14
with
52:15
real
52:15
bourbon
52:15
lovers,
52:16
this
52:16
one
52:17
almost
52:17
always
52:17
comes
52:18
out
52:18
at
52:18
number
52:19
one
52:19
or
52:19
number
52:19
two
52:19
out
52:20
of
52:20
five.
52:20
It's
52:21
drinkable.
52:21
Right.
52:22
It's
52:22
just
52:22
one
52:22
of
52:22
those
52:23
things,
52:23
people
52:23
go,
52:24
oh,
52:24
that's
52:24
amazing.
52:25
Exactly.
52:25
Right.
52:25
And
52:26
usually
52:26
what
52:26
I
52:26
do
52:26
is
52:27
I'll
52:27
usually
52:27
have
52:27
that
52:28
one
52:28
like
52:28
number
52:28
four.
52:29
Number
52:29
five
52:29
out
52:30
of
52:30
five.
52:30
And
52:31
so
52:31
you've
52:31
tried
52:31
all
52:31
these
52:31
others,
52:32
then
52:32
you
52:32
try
52:32
this,
52:32
and
52:33
it's
52:33
so
52:33
smooth.
52:34
It's
52:34
called
52:34
mellow
52:34
cone
52:35
for
52:35
a
52:35
reason.
52:35
It
52:35
is
52:35
mellow,
52:36
it
52:36
is
52:36
smooth,
52:36
it's
52:37
sweet.
52:38
Extremely
52:39
drinkable.
52:40
And
52:40
again,
52:40
16
52:41
bucks
52:41
a
52:41
bottle.
52:41
You
52:41
really
52:42
can't
52:42
beat
52:42
it.
52:43
Okay,
52:43
now
52:43
I
52:44
got
52:44
to
52:44
try
52:44
that
52:44
because
52:44
I've
52:45
been
52:45
just
52:45
for
52:46
the
52:46
last
52:46
number
52:46
of
52:46
years.
52:46
My
52:47
just
52:47
go
52:47
to
52:47
was
52:47
like
52:48
Buffalo
52:48
Trace.
52:48
That
52:48
was
52:49
just
52:49
my
52:49
easy
52:50
drinkable.
52:50
That
52:51
was
52:51
the
52:51
cheap
52:51
stuff
52:51
that
52:52
I
52:52
had.
52:52
But
52:52
then
52:53
my
52:53
buddy
52:53
was
52:53
up
52:54
from
52:54
Texas
52:54
and
52:54
brought
52:55
that.
52:55
I
52:55
went,
52:55
I
52:56
like
52:56
that
52:56
a
52:56
little
52:56
better.
52:57
I
52:57
do
52:57
love
52:58
the
52:58
Texas
52:58
whiskeys,
52:59
though,
52:59
because
52:59
they
52:59
do
52:59
have
53:00
a
53:01
little
53:01
different
53:02
flavor
53:02
profile
53:03
than
53:03
any
53:03
other
53:03
American
53:04
whiskeys.
53:04
And
53:05
Coney's
53:05
is
53:05
one
53:05
of
53:05
my
53:05
favorite
53:06
distillers
53:07
down
53:07
there.
53:08
And
53:08
they
53:08
just
53:08
have
53:09
so
53:09
many
53:10
interesting
53:10
flavors
53:11
that
53:11
you
53:11
can't
53:12
get
53:12
from
53:12
anything
53:12
else.
53:13
Yeah,
53:13
I
53:13
think
53:13
they're
53:14
made.
53:14
TX
53:14
is
53:14
made,
53:14
I
53:15
think.
53:15
What's
53:15
that
53:15
Firestone
53:16
or
53:16
Robertson
53:16
or
53:17
whatever
53:17
down
53:17
there?
53:17
Kind
53:17
of
53:17
one
53:18
of
53:18
the
53:18
bigger
53:18
ones.
53:18
But
53:19
it's
53:19
inexpensive.
53:20
I
53:20
used
53:20
to
53:20
have
53:20
to
53:21
drive
53:21
up
53:21
to
53:21
Washington
53:21
state
53:22
to
53:22
get
53:22
it
53:22
because
53:22
I
53:22
couldn't
53:23
get
53:23
it
53:23
here
53:23
in
53:23
Oregon,
53:23
which
53:23
just
53:24
meant
53:24
going
53:24
across
53:24
the
53:24
river.
53:25
Now
53:25
they
53:25
got
53:25
it
53:25
here,
53:26
but
53:27
it's
53:27
way
53:27
more
53:27
expensive
53:28
in
53:28
Washington
53:28
because
53:28
they
53:28
got
53:29
all
53:29
those
53:29
taxes
53:29
up
53:29
there
53:30
they
53:30
nail
53:30
you
53:30
on.
53:30
So
53:30
they've
53:31
got
53:31
like
53:31
a
53:31
40
53:32
sales
53:32
tax
53:32
or
53:32
something
53:33
crazy.
53:33
Yikes.
53:34
So
53:34
it
53:34
gets
53:34
expensive.
53:35
But
53:35
yeah.
53:35
And
53:36
of
53:36
course
53:36
we
53:36
got
53:36
some
53:36
great
53:37
brands
53:37
here
53:37
in
53:38
our
53:38
area.
53:38
But
53:39
there
53:39
are
53:39
so
53:39
many
53:40
different
53:40
brands
53:40
and
53:41
so
53:41
many.
53:41
I
53:41
still
53:42
like
53:42
whistlepig
53:43
out
53:43
of
53:43
Vermont
53:43
or
53:44
wherever
53:44
easy
53:45
drinking
53:45
go
53:45
wrong
53:45
with
53:45
it.
53:46
It's
53:46
just.
53:46
Again,
53:46
it's
53:46
a
53:47
tried
53:47
and
53:47
true.
53:47
Actually
53:47
one
53:48
of
53:48
my
53:48
favorites
53:48
right
53:48
now
53:49
is
53:49
Barrel
53:50
Barrel
53:50
Craft.
53:51
And
53:51
they
53:51
have
53:52
called
53:52
Seagrass.
53:53
Ooh.
53:54
And
53:55
Seagrass
53:55
is
53:56
a.
53:56
It's
53:57
a.
53:57
A
53:57
blend
53:58
of
53:58
bourbons.
53:59
Okay.
54:00
That
54:00
were
54:01
then
54:01
aged
54:02
independently
54:03
in
54:04
various
54:04
types
54:04
of
54:05
barrels.
54:05
Like
54:05
an
54:05
ex
54:05
rum
54:06
barrel.
54:06
A
54:07
third
54:07
of
54:07
it
54:07
was
54:08
aged
54:08
in
54:08
an
54:08
ex
54:09
apricot
54:09
brandy
54:10
barrel.
54:10
Ooh,
54:11
cool.
54:11
It's
54:12
unbelievable.
54:12
Yeah.
54:13
One
54:13
of
54:13
my
54:13
favorite
54:14
pours
54:14
right
54:14
now.
54:15
A
54:15
little
54:15
pricey,
54:15
about
54:16
60,
54:16
70
54:16
bucks
54:17
a
54:17
bottle.
54:17
It's
54:18
a
54:18
special
54:18
occasion
54:19
bottle.
54:19
But
54:19
I'll
54:19
tell
54:19
you
54:19
what,
54:20
for
54:20
an
54:20
American
54:20
made
54:21
whiskey,
54:22
I'm
54:22
a
54:22
scotch
54:23
drinker.
54:23
Yeah.
54:24
But
54:24
that
54:24
one,
54:25
I.
54:25
I'll
54:26
tell
54:26
you,
54:26
it
54:26
is
54:26
the
54:26
best
54:27
of
54:27
the
54:27
best.
54:28
Yeah.
54:28
Some
54:28
of
54:28
those
54:28
is
54:28
just.
54:29
It's
54:29
like
54:29
right
54:29
now
54:30
I'm.
54:30
I've
54:31
been
54:31
drinking
54:31
a.
54:32
Last
54:32
month
54:32
I've
54:32
been
54:33
working
54:33
on
54:33
a
54:33
bottle
54:33
of
54:34
Basil
54:34
Hayden
54:34
dark.
54:35
Very
54:36
good.
54:36
Dark
54:36
rye.
54:36
I
54:37
could
54:37
drink
54:37
that.
54:37
I
54:37
could
54:37
sip
54:38
on
54:38
that
54:38
all
54:38
day
54:38
long.
54:39
It's
54:39
just
54:39
beautiful.
54:41
One
54:41
of
54:41
the
54:42
goals
54:42
for
54:42
this
54:42
year.
54:42
I
54:42
always
54:43
set
54:43
goals
54:43
every
54:43
year.
54:44
Not
54:44
New
54:44
Year's
54:44
Eve.
54:45
What
54:46
am
54:46
I
54:46
gonna
54:46
do
54:46
this
54:46
year?
54:47
Differently.
54:47
But
54:47
I
54:47
set
54:48
goals
54:48
for
54:48
business.
54:49
But
54:49
this
54:50
year,
54:50
I
54:50
also
54:50
set.
54:50
The
54:50
goal
54:51
was
54:51
I
54:51
need
54:51
to
54:51
clean
54:52
up
54:52
some
54:52
of
54:52
the
54:52
old
54:52
bottles
54:53
that
54:53
I
54:53
have
54:53
on
54:53
the
54:53
shelf,
54:54
because
54:55
as
54:55
a
54:56
whiskey
54:56
sommelier,
54:57
I
54:57
have
54:57
somewhere
54:57
in
54:57
the
54:57
neighborhood
54:58
of
54:58
six
54:58
to
54:58
seven
54:59
hundred
54:59
bottles
54:59
of
54:59
whiskey.
55:00
Oh,
55:01
I'll
55:01
donate
55:02
my
55:02
time
55:02
to
55:02
come
55:02
help.
55:03
I
55:04
gotta
55:04
help
55:04
a
55:04
brother
55:04
out.
55:05
Come
55:05
on
55:06
over,
55:06
brother.
55:07
I'll
55:07
be
55:07
happy
55:07
to
55:07
pour
55:08
you
55:08
one.
55:08
Or
55:08
a
55:08
few.
55:09
Exactly.
55:09
So
55:09
one
55:10
of
55:10
my
55:10
goals
55:10
this
55:10
year
55:10
was
55:11
I
55:11
am
55:11
not
55:12
going
55:12
to
55:12
open
55:12
up
55:12
a
55:13
new
55:13
bottle
55:14
until
55:14
I
55:15
finish
55:15
an
55:15
old
55:15
bottle.
55:16
Nice.
55:17
And
55:18
because
55:18
I
55:18
have
55:18
all
55:18
these
55:18
bottles
55:19
that,
55:19
you
55:19
know.
55:19
And
55:20
whiskey
55:20
never
55:20
goes
55:21
bad.
55:21
It
55:21
changes.
55:22
The
55:22
flavor
55:22
profiles
55:23
change
55:23
as
55:23
the
55:24
oxidation
55:24
occurs,
55:24
but
55:25
it
55:25
never
55:25
goes
55:25
bad.
55:26
So
55:26
I
55:26
have
55:26
some
55:26
bottles
55:27
that
55:27
are
55:27
10,
55:27
12
55:28
years
55:28
old
55:29
that
55:29
I
55:29
had
55:29
this
55:30
much
55:30
left.
55:30
That's
55:30
it.
55:31
I
55:31
don't
55:31
care
55:31
if
55:31
I
55:32
liked
55:32
it
55:32
or
55:32
didn't
55:32
like
55:33
it.
55:33
I'm
55:33
finishing
55:33
this.
55:35
And
55:35
so
55:35
I'm
55:36
keeping
55:36
a
55:37
photo
55:38
record
55:38
of
55:38
every
55:38
bottle
55:39
that
55:39
I
55:39
killed
55:40
this
55:40
year.
55:40
Nice.
55:41
And
55:42
so
55:42
sometime
55:43
in
55:43
next
55:44
January,
55:44
I'm
55:44
gonna
55:45
be
55:45
posting
55:45
a
55:46
photo
55:46
collage
55:47
of
55:47
my
55:47
bottle
55:47
kills
55:48
of
55:48
the
55:48
year.
55:49
All
55:49
right,
55:50
I
55:50
want
55:50
to
55:50
see
55:50
that.
55:50
That's
55:51
good.
55:51
You
55:51
got
55:52
it.
55:52
I
55:52
was
55:52
thinking
55:53
you
55:53
and
55:53
I
55:53
should
55:53
do
55:54
some
55:54
kind
55:54
of
55:54
an
55:54
online
55:56
whiskey
55:56
tasting
55:57
sometime
55:57
where
55:58
we
55:58
tell
55:58
people
55:58
to
55:58
go
55:59
out
55:59
and
55:59
buy
55:59
these
55:59
four
56:00
bottles,
56:01
and
56:01
we
56:01
do
56:01
it
56:02
on
56:02
like
56:02
this,
56:03
and
56:03
we
56:03
all
56:03
do
56:03
it
56:03
as
56:04
a
56:04
live
56:04
event,
56:05
and
56:05
people
56:06
could
56:06
come
56:06
in.
56:06
I
56:06
think
56:07
it
56:07
would
56:07
be
56:07
so
56:07
fun,
56:07
especially
56:08
if
56:08
you
56:08
gave
56:08
them
56:09
a
56:09
week
56:09
or
56:09
two
56:09
of,
56:09
okay,
56:10
do
56:11
this.
56:11
Go
56:12
buy
56:12
these
56:12
four
56:13
bottles.
56:14
That
56:14
way
56:14
it's
56:14
not
56:14
too
56:15
expensive.
56:15
Give
56:15
people
56:16
a
56:16
little
56:16
time
56:16
to
56:16
do
56:16
it.
56:16
We
56:17
all
56:17
sit
56:17
there
56:17
and.
56:18
And
56:18
do
56:18
it.
56:18
I
56:18
think
56:18
it'd
56:19
be
56:19
a
56:19
lot
56:19
of
56:19
fun
56:19
sometime.
56:20
We've
56:20
done
56:20
this
56:20
before
56:21
where
56:21
we've
56:21
done.
56:21
We
56:22
do
56:22
bottle
56:22
shares
56:23
with
56:23
friends.
56:23
Yeah.
56:23
Because
56:23
it's.
56:24
You
56:24
can
56:24
do
56:24
that.
56:24
I've
56:25
got
56:25
friends.
56:25
You
56:25
can
56:25
try
56:26
some.
56:26
And.
56:26
And
56:27
we
56:27
then
56:27
distribute
56:28
samples.
56:29
And
56:29
I'll
56:30
tell
56:30
you
56:30
what.
56:31
And
56:31
the
56:31
ones.
56:31
The
56:32
most
56:32
fun
56:32
ones
56:33
are
56:33
when
56:33
I
56:33
just
56:33
put
56:33
numbers
56:34
in
56:34
the
56:34
bottles.
56:34
Yep.
56:34
I
56:35
don't
56:35
put
56:35
names.
56:35
Yep.
56:36
Pour
56:36
1
56:37
through
56:37
5,
56:37
and
56:37
let's
56:38
taste
56:38
them.
56:38
And
56:39
I
56:39
guarantee
56:40
we'll
56:40
taste
56:41
whiskeys
56:41
anywhere
56:41
from
56:42
15
56:42
bucks
56:42
a
56:42
bottle
56:43
up
56:43
to
56:43
200
56:43
a
56:44
bottle.
56:44
And
56:44
the
56:45
one
56:45
that
56:45
always
56:46
ranks
56:46
number
56:46
one
56:47
is
56:47
something
56:47
around
56:48
20
56:48
bucks.
56:48
Yeah.
56:49
It's
56:49
awesome.
56:50
It's
56:50
awesome.
56:51
So,
56:52
Andy.
56:52
Yeah.
56:52
Let's
56:52
do
56:53
it.
56:53
Let's
56:53
do
56:53
it.
56:53
Let's
56:54
do
56:54
it.
56:54
So,
56:54
Andy,
56:54
how
56:54
do
56:55
people
56:55
get
56:55
a
56:55
hold
56:55
of
56:55
you
56:56
because
56:57
you've
56:57
got
56:57
such
56:57
a
56:58
great
56:58
knowledge
56:59
base
56:59
of
56:59
everything
56:59
from
57:00
taking
57:01
care
57:01
of
57:01
those
57:01
healthy
57:02
home
57:02
issues
57:03
out
57:03
there,
57:03
whether
57:04
you're
57:04
a
57:04
modeling
57:04
building
57:05
or
57:05
working
57:05
with
57:05
existing
57:06
structures
57:07
that
57:07
you're
57:07
trying
57:07
to
57:08
clean
57:08
up
57:08
a
57:08
little
57:08
bit?
57:09
How
57:09
do
57:09
people
57:09
track
57:10
you
57:10
down?
57:11
The
57:11
best
57:11
way
57:11
to
57:11
get
57:12
in
57:12
touch
57:12
with
57:12
me
57:12
now
57:12
is
57:13
I
57:13
have
57:14
a
57:14
new
57:15
website
57:15
for
57:16
my
57:16
consulting,
57:17
my
57:17
podcasting,
57:19
all
57:19
my
57:19
content.
57:20
It's
57:20
called
57:21
NTE
57:22
Live.
57:23
Nice.
57:23
Ntelive.com
57:25
and
57:25
from
57:26
there
57:26
you
57:26
can
57:26
get
57:26
the
57:26
YouTube
57:27
show
57:27
and
57:27
all
57:28
the
57:28
other
57:28
places
57:29
and
57:29
so
57:29
forth.
57:29
I'm
57:29
in
57:30
my
57:30
50s.
57:30
I
57:30
started
57:31
my
57:31
YouTube
57:31
page
57:31
about
57:32
six
57:32
months
57:32
ago
57:33
and
57:33
I'm
57:33
still
57:33
getting
57:34
the
57:34
hang
57:34
of
57:34
it.
57:34
These
57:35
young
57:35
bucks
57:35
that
57:36
start
57:36
a
57:36
YouTube
57:36
page
57:36
and
57:36
have
57:37
a
57:37
million
57:37
followers
57:37
in
57:38
six
57:38
weeks,
57:38
that's
57:38
not
57:38
me.
57:39
No,
57:39
but
57:39
same
57:40
here.
57:40
This
57:40
is
57:40
the
57:41
best
57:41
way
57:41
to
57:42
learn
57:43
and
57:43
to
57:44
reach
57:44
out
57:44
to
57:45
me
57:45
for
57:45
consultations,
57:45
so
57:46
forth.
57:46
I
57:46
still
57:46
have
57:47
my
57:47
material
57:48
supply
57:48
company,
57:48
Green
57:49
Design
57:49
center,
57:49
and
57:49
that
57:49
is
57:49
thegreendesigncenter.com.
57:51
You
57:52
got
57:52
it,
57:52
brother.
57:53
Thanks
57:53
for
57:53
coming
57:53
on
57:54
today,
57:54
man.
57:54
It's
57:54
always
57:54
a
57:55
good
57:55
time.
57:55
We
57:55
could
57:55
do
57:55
Joe
57:56
Rogan
57:56
style
57:56
of
57:56
this
57:57
for
57:57
four
57:57
hours
57:58
and
57:58
not
57:58
cover
57:58
it
57:59
all.
57:59
So
57:59
I'll
57:59
have
57:59
to
58:00
do
58:00
it
58:00
again
58:00
soon.
58:01
We
58:01
will
58:01
do
58:01
that
58:02
with
58:02
whiskey.
58:02
All
58:03
right,
58:03
brother.
58:03
We
58:03
will
58:04
do
58:04
that.
58:04
