- 0:00Happy Thursday morning, everybody.
- 0:04We have a little rain. It's going to move into Saint
- 0:07Louis. Supposed to move right on out
- 0:11tonight. They say it's not going to be a
- 0:13big one. Might be a little soaker, but I
- 0:16think we will still race tomorrow.
- 0:19Oh, no. I'm checking my chairs out.
- 0:22They look wet. Must be humidity.
- 0:26Humidity. My tables, everything's wet.
- 0:31All right, well, we'll just keep on walking.
- 0:33We'll go over to our normal spot.
- 0:35OK, We're going to get right to it today.
- 0:40Wow. Breaking news throughout
- 0:42America, they said. And all the all the stats and
- 0:48demographics are out that racing in America and throughout the
- 0:55world has set some records. Let's go to the Formula One race
- 1:01over there. Monica, ESPN reported record
- 1:05ratings like a million people, which is big here, which is big
- 1:12because Formula One does OK over here, but usually doesn't start
- 1:16hitting the millions. And so Formula One over Monica
- 1:20in the in the million, I think 1,000,000 viewers or something
- 1:24like that. Hey, help me out.
- 1:26Respond right here. We're not, we're not in a war to
- 1:28be right. You can help me with stats.
- 1:32I'm not a statistician. I just read.
- 1:34I did go through one through 12. I can read a little bit.
- 1:40OK, then the Indianapolis 500 had one of his highest ratings
- 1:47in like, what, 20 years? 7 million people watched the
- 1:53Indy 500 and then of course, the NASCAR race right there on
- 2:00prime. This new test, let's be clear,
- 2:04NASCAR and Prime, they're trying something new.
- 2:08Now, this is a little sarcasm right here, and I know you are
- 2:11going to come in with your excuses.
- 2:13I'm ready to go. I'm fully loaded to do battle
- 2:17with you on this. This was a test and everybody
- 2:21knew it was this was prime's way of saying, hey, we're going to
- 2:26we're going to put this NASCAR race on streaming and we're
- 2:30going to see how it goes. We all know we all know that if
- 2:34you put it on fox free, we know that the viewers are going to be
- 2:39bigger. However prime now this is key.
- 2:43You got to listen pre prime or pre back to get back to getting
- 2:50your out of your mouth. By the way, the last two days
- 2:54I've been very soft spoken, very quiet.
- 2:57So today I'm kind of going to hit the median, going to go back
- 3:01to the way I used to be. OK, so I've already explained to
- 3:07you that the prime thing is a test and they have paid NASCAR a
- 3:10lot of money to do this testing. Let's put NASCAR on prime.
- 3:15Let's do the Earnhardt documentary.
- 3:19See, this is all a big plan by Prime, everybody.
- 3:21This isn't just a let's put a NASCAR race on Prime.
- 3:25This is prime seeing if they can pay some money to NASCAR and
- 3:30bring more viewership over to Prime.
- 3:33It's called promotion. So ride in line with more
- 3:38viewers on Formula One for the Monaco race, more viewers.
- 3:43You know, Fox TV said we're going to promote IndyCar and
- 3:47they did. And they also said we didn't
- 3:50promote NASCAR that much for this year.
- 3:53They said that. But prime look at that like over
- 3:58well in the 2,000,000 viewership.
- 4:02And the one thing that we were getting in trouble with is young
- 4:06kids were not watching NASCAR like we need to.
- 4:10We're in trouble. We are in trouble in NASCAR.
- 4:14It's all of us old people. So how do we get young kids to
- 4:18watch NASCAR? Well, the stat came out and I'll
- 4:22post it right here. The viewership for the NASCAR
- 4:27race was seven years younger. Because here's why kids have
- 4:34apps. The children, the kids, they
- 4:38like the apps. The old people, they get pissed.
- 4:41We don't want nothing to do with apps.
- 4:44I'm not spending that $8 more a month.
- 4:48So the kids, they don't care. They don't care like us old
- 4:53retired people, as old retired people, we have a budget.
- 4:57I'm not spending $6 on my lunch. So the reason that the
- 5:05viewership was seven years younger watching NASCAR and
- 5:10Prime is because kids don't care.
- 5:13Now they choose. That's the difference.
- 5:16The kids choose the way they watch.
- 5:18They're they're not going to spend the $200 a month on
- 5:22DIRECTV. They're going to buy what they
- 5:25want to buy when they want to buy it.
- 5:27That's the difference. So it was a big week all around.
- 5:33All the stats, everybody's all in.
- 5:35Now here it is Thursday, so respond right here.
- 5:39The bottom line is this. Why is NASCAR?
- 5:45No, let's back it up. Why is auto racing in America
- 5:49up? I think that's going to be my
- 5:52headlines. Damn Nats, what's going on?
- 5:57Get out of here. I'll bust that ass, Mark Martin,
- 6:03I'll bust that ass. So anyway, why was viewership
- 6:08for auto racing in America during Memorial Day weekend?
- 6:13Now we'll see if it keeps up. Now, like I say, if you're going
- 6:18to bitch about Prime, you better get it in quick because there's
- 6:22only four more races left on Prime.
- 6:24So as soon as you start your bitching about Prime, it's going
- 6:27to be gone. Only four more races left.
- 6:33I think. So I think that's what Dale
- 6:34Junior liked about signing up with Prime.
- 6:37Hell, about a little over a month and it's already over.
- 6:40And then we'll end up going, you know, to some other apps.
- 6:45I respond right here, but there is a confusing schedule.
- 6:49I'll say that there is a confusing schedule with NASCAR
- 6:52this year with all the apps wanting to buy NASCAR.
- 6:56Our Charlie Marlow on Herman Schrader said there's like I got
- 7:01it's like an $8 billion deal over 7 years, like a billion
- 7:07dollars a year. Don't mean to piss some of you
- 7:11old people off, but the demise of NASCAR is greatly exaggerated
- 7:17and that makes me happy. The other subject at hand is
- 7:23just NASCAR in a hole right now, WHOLE right now.
- 7:30There's a lot of talk about the Oval and I think that's what
- 7:36we'll end with. I think the fans are starting to
- 7:39get used to of, oh, we're not going to be exactly the same
- 7:43every year. NASCAR came out and they said
- 7:48we're going to end the championship this year at
- 7:51Phoenix and everybody kind of like that.
- 7:55And I think NASCAR's testing you all testing us, all testing me.
- 8:00And they said next year we're going to end the championship at
- 8:03Miami Homestead. Now all of a sudden it seems
- 8:08like we can change it up every year if we'd like.
- 8:12So now with that race, that was so good.
- 8:15Now, by the way, great ratings for Prime for a new app.
- 8:21I do want to get a sucker punch in for nobody having that app.
- 8:25The Prime app sure was a lot of viewers.
- 8:29So there's a little lesson we learned, right?
- 8:33180, two 100 million viewers are 180 to 200 million people have
- 8:40the prime app. That's how you get over
- 8:422,000,000 viewers. And remember, this is a big
- 8:46test. OK, let's go back to the the
- 8:49roble. All right, great ratings.
- 8:52Jeff Gluck says, was Charlotte a good race?
- 8:56It was 9010. Those are rare. 90% of you all
- 9:01said Charlotte was an incredible race, 90%.
- 9:06Now the rally cry is this, and this is what we're going to end
- 9:09with. Do we get rid of the Roval?
- 9:15Do we get rid of going around the Charlotte Motor Speedway and
- 9:18then going into the road course and coming back out?
- 9:22A lot of people are saying, hey, remember, Oh, do I hear that?
- 9:27Oh, it's it's gone. I can't hear it anymore.
- 9:30I hate the next Gen. car. It races horrible at all the
- 9:36short tracks except North Wilkesboro, except Charlotte
- 9:42Motor Speedway. I hey, as Andy Petrie would say,
- 9:47he would. He would exaggerate.
- 9:48You know, I told you so. Andy Peacher would say I hold
- 9:53you, I hold you. So here we are.
- 9:57Remember all that arguing we was doing?
- 9:59It's a long distance. I hear.
- 10:01I hear it way out there. Remember that?
- 10:03All that bitching you, you chewed my ever living ass out.
- 10:06I said Talladega was a good race.
- 10:08It went, you know, minimal cautions, photo finish.
- 10:12And you guys hated me. You were brutal to me.
- 10:15Now all of a sudden the car's OK.
- 10:18What a race at North Wilkesboro. What a race at Charlotte.
- 10:22So soon as you say that next Gen. car sucks and it was meant
- 10:28for tracks like Charlotte. Well what happened to
- 10:32Wilkesboro? Oh, is that an anomaly?
- 10:36I don't even know how to say that stupid ass word, but that
- 10:39means A1 off. Nope.
- 10:42Wilkesboro is just a good track. So the bottom line is this, do
- 10:49we get rid of the roble or do we fired up every once in a while?
- 10:54Respond right here because that's the rally cry out there.
- 10:56Everybody. My God, the Coke 600 was so good
- 11:01on Memorial Day weekend. Now, listen, it's on the
- 11:04schedule. But I mean, could they take it
- 11:06off the schedule? I don't know.
- 11:08People have already bought their tickets.
- 11:09There's a lot of people that like that Roble.
- 11:12Do we get rid of the roble? Now respond right here.
- 11:17All right, everybody, 2 subjects today.
- 11:21Why was racing in America viewership up so much over
- 11:27Memorial Day weekend? And do we get rid of the Roval
- 11:31or do we go, do we put it in there every once in a while?
- 11:35You know, it looks to me like changing the schedule every year
- 11:40is here to stay because you all like it.
- 11:43All right, everybody have a great Thursday.
