- 3:14Speaker 3: We want to talk a little politics this morning. I
- 3:16Speaker 3: want to bring into the show Canada for prosecutor here
- 3:18Speaker 3: in Kanawk County, John Mitchell, John, good morning, Welcome to
- 3:20Speaker 3: the show, Dave.
- 3:21Speaker 4: Thanks, good morning you, and welcome back to the Stern.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Yes, I am back a little time in the Palmetto
- 3:29Speaker 3: state of South Carolina.
- 3:30Speaker 4: Beautiful country. I'm sure you all had a great time,
- 3:32Speaker 4: and hopefully the weather wasn't too bad.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Weather was good the entire time. Rained a little bit
- 3:37Speaker 3: coming back, but I think we were already in Virginia
- 3:40Speaker 3: or West Virginia by that point. More importantly to me, John,
- 3:42Speaker 3: as I ate, Well, that's all that's all I really
- 3:45Speaker 3: care about.
- 3:45Speaker 4: That's a good important me and beautiful weather here. And
- 3:47Speaker 4: thank you for having me on your show.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Absolutely tell us about John Mitchell. Who is John Mitchell?
- 3:51Speaker 4: He was your bio well famous, been here since the
- 3:54Speaker 4: eighteen eighties, Monroe County since the seventeen eighties. I've been
- 3:58Speaker 4: practicing law here for forty years. My father practice law
- 4:01Speaker 4: for sixty years before. That's why I'm John Mitchell Junior.
- 4:07Speaker 4: I'm here because I'm a candidate. I'm a Democrat nominee
- 4:09Speaker 4: for prosecuting Attorney here in Kanall County. In terms of
- 4:13Speaker 4: a resume, I don't know how much you want to
- 4:15Speaker 4: go on and on and on.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Well, we've only got about ten minutes, so to basically
- 4:19Speaker 3: give us the highlights, well.
- 4:20Speaker 4: Highlights of our assistant prosecutor a few years ago, started
- 4:23Speaker 4: having children and need a bigger income. I've been practicing
- 4:27Speaker 4: for forty years. As you might know, might not know,
- 4:30Speaker 4: I once served as state senator here for Kanall County.
- 4:35Speaker 4: I've had an extensive practice in the criminal law area,
- 4:39Speaker 4: but I've also had a general practice as well a
- 4:41Speaker 4: wide breath practice. I've served as a legal or head
- 4:45Speaker 4: or chairman of the Criminal Law Committee Forliciting State Bar
- 4:49Speaker 4: for a number of years. I've been legal counsel to
- 4:52Speaker 4: the judiciaries of the legislature. And I've run a law
- 4:57Speaker 4: practice all these years. Now I met that aren't sure
- 5:00Speaker 4: in my life where I can afford to be prosecuting
- 5:02Speaker 4: attorney and desire to be prosecuting attorney. And really, quite frankly,
- 5:06Speaker 4: when I use all the skills that I've developed and
- 5:08Speaker 4: hound author these years to make a contribution back to
- 5:12Speaker 4: our county and to the people of this part of
- 5:14Speaker 4: the state.
- 5:15Speaker 3: What is it about the office of prosecutor that appealed
- 5:17Speaker 3: to you? I know you talked about at this point
- 5:19Speaker 3: in your life that you're to position where you could
- 5:20Speaker 3: do but why would you want to at this point?
- 5:23Speaker 4: I guess It's been an interesting man I've been involved with.
- 5:25Speaker 4: I've closed almost twelve thousand files and it has a
- 5:30Speaker 4: lot to do. It's not just being a prosecutor putting
- 5:33Speaker 4: people in jail. It covers so many of the issues
- 5:35Speaker 4: we're dealing with in the mental health issues. I was
- 5:38Speaker 4: president of the Western Geni Mental Health Consumer Association one time.
- 5:42Speaker 4: Drug addiction issues, child connected abuse issues, alcohol issues, so
- 5:49Speaker 4: many of the cross the board things that we are
- 5:52Speaker 4: dealing with now that basically tearing our society down. It
- 5:55Speaker 4: all rolls in and in some way or another it
- 5:58Speaker 4: gets addressed by the prosecuting attorney. It's not a matterge
- 6:01Speaker 4: just taking a robber making sure he goes to jail
- 6:03Speaker 4: for a long time. It's much more complicated than that.
- 6:08Speaker 4: It's one reason I've often talked in terms of my
- 6:11Speaker 4: experience against my opponent is my opponent has been as
- 6:15Speaker 4: a commendable eight and a half nine years as an
- 6:17Speaker 4: assistant prosecutor, but she's dealt with a tree in the
- 6:20Speaker 4: practice of law. I've been dealing with the forest for
- 6:23Speaker 4: forty years, and I think I have a good grasp
- 6:26Speaker 4: on how to apply that, and I've got good intentions.
- 6:29Speaker 4: I don't have any ambitions beyond finishing my career and
- 6:32Speaker 4: doing it honorably and bringing back what it was when
- 6:35Speaker 4: I was doing it forty years ago, when we had
- 6:38Speaker 4: some real titans like Charlie King and Irene Berger, Pete Brown,
- 6:42Speaker 4: Jim Stuckey. There was a mindset at that time, a
- 6:48Speaker 4: sense of professionalism that I'll throw out there and say
- 6:51Speaker 4: it needs to come back.
- 6:53Speaker 3: Expand upon that, I mean, how did it What exactly
- 6:57Speaker 3: are you're saying there is?
- 6:58Speaker 4: It's not an issue and That's not a platform statement, really,
- 7:01Speaker 4: but it's my percession of how it was when I
- 7:05Speaker 4: was there. The office was very very close, very very professional,
- 7:11Speaker 4: and everybody was on the same cause, so to speak.
- 7:16Speaker 4: The times of change obviously, and they have a lot
- 7:19Speaker 4: more younger people in there now who are also have ambitions.
- 7:23Speaker 4: One of our biggest issues is probably if I became prosecutors,
- 7:26Speaker 4: trying to get that county commission and provide enough money
- 7:29Speaker 4: to keep experience attorneys in there so that they can
- 7:31Speaker 4: really find hunt their skills.
- 7:34Speaker 3: Let's talk about drugs for a moment, and whether I've
- 7:37Speaker 3: had you, I've had your opponent on the show, I've
- 7:39Speaker 3: talked to law enforcement. Everybody says, and this is true
- 7:42Speaker 3: across the country, that about probably ninety percent of every
- 7:47Speaker 3: case that comes to the court system somehow is involved
- 7:50Speaker 3: in drugs. Whether it's a large need somebody stealing something
- 7:53Speaker 3: to get their drugs, whether it's an actual drug deal somewhere,
- 7:56Speaker 3: drugs are involved in it. How do we fix that?
- 8:01Speaker 4: If I had the answer to be a trillionare right now?
- 8:03Speaker 4: That's the right look, I will say, it's much different
- 8:06Speaker 4: than it was forty years ago. Yeah, you had the
- 8:09Speaker 4: criminal mind and a criminal mind, quite frankly, often didn't
- 8:13Speaker 4: do drugs. They knew better. Your drug dealers didn't do drugs,
- 8:16Speaker 4: then they knew better. But yes, now that's what it's done.
- 8:18Speaker 4: It's quite frankly strict people of their souls, their spirits,
- 8:21Speaker 4: their their honor. It's gotten to the point where people
- 8:26Speaker 4: have to start and be completely rebuilt. And we're just
- 8:30Speaker 4: starting to get a grasp of taking people and not
- 8:33Speaker 4: necessarily if you throw them into a penitentiary, they're gonna
- 8:36Speaker 4: come out still a drug addict. We have to, we
- 8:40Speaker 4: have we're starting to get with the day reports centers
- 8:42Speaker 4: and the drug courts. Judge Bailey was su incment and
- 8:47Speaker 4: Judge Will Thompson now United States Tournament su instrumental in
- 8:50Speaker 4: that concept. One of the things about prosecuting attorney is
- 8:54Speaker 4: that there's a moment when every case is going to
- 8:57Speaker 4: go before the circuit courts that's crime related is in
- 9:00Speaker 4: the prosecuting attorney's office, and then it dissipates out to
- 9:03Speaker 4: what eight nine different circuit judges here in the county,
- 9:07Speaker 4: which is going to get addressed in different ways, in
- 9:09Speaker 4: different manners as well. We need a profound system, a
- 9:15Speaker 4: defined system that can recognize and deal between somebody with
- 9:19Speaker 4: a serious drug addict and some way of a serious
- 9:21Speaker 4: criminal mind. There are people out there, quite frankly, that
- 9:25Speaker 4: need to be stashed away the rest of their lives
- 9:27Speaker 4: and they don't need to be soaking up our resources
- 9:30Speaker 4: when we could use those resources to help people that
- 9:34Speaker 4: might have been a broken leg and got overprescribed or
- 9:37Speaker 4: had a bad moment in their life. And we have
- 9:40Speaker 4: to get away from this mindsets to society that people
- 9:43Speaker 4: can just on their own throw switch and stop using
- 9:46Speaker 4: if there is a process that needs support and back
- 9:51Speaker 4: up on it mechanism too.
- 9:52Speaker 3: It as well talk with John Mitchell again, who's a
- 9:55Speaker 3: candidate for prosecutor in Kanac County. The Dave Island Showing
- 9:57Speaker 3: five eighty Live has brought to you a part by
- 9:59Speaker 3: Pinnicle Consultants. Pinnacle offers a four phase assessment for your
- 10:02Speaker 3: properties INSPECS and sampling and analysis, comprehensive reporting and management planning.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Visit Pinnacle Court dot net because what you don't know
- 10:09Speaker 3: can hurt you, John. The primary election for prosecutor got
- 10:13Speaker 3: a little heated between the candidates at that time. Deb
- 10:17Speaker 3: Rusnick is now serving in that role after being appointed
- 10:20Speaker 3: there do you anticipate this campaign being a nasty campaign.
- 10:24Speaker 4: Or between me and Debbia Rosnik we're good friends. Yeah,
- 10:29Speaker 4: Deborah knows that if I should prevail, she has a job.
- 10:35Speaker 4: She's a skilled trial lawyer, and that's important. You need
- 10:38Speaker 4: that in a prossecuting attorney's office. I think you need
- 10:42Speaker 4: my assaultiness and my wisdom to oversee in the channel
- 10:45Speaker 4: that skills of hers are the best way.
- 10:47Speaker 6: No, that.
- 10:49Speaker 4: Is not the way I've ever conducted my campaigns. I
- 10:51Speaker 4: was proud of the fact that when I ran for Senate,
- 10:53Speaker 4: I was running against the income at Jack Buffaloo, and
- 10:56Speaker 4: we would give our speeches and go have lunch together.
- 10:59Speaker 3: What a novel concept. I mean, you know, and people
- 11:03Speaker 3: and the listeners John have heard me talk about it
- 11:05Speaker 3: on the show. Politics should not be a death sport.
- 11:07Speaker 3: I mean, you should be able to shake hands one
- 11:10Speaker 3: with the other. Your supporters should be able to do
- 11:12Speaker 3: that and go, hey, congratulations, let's move on, or you
- 11:15Speaker 3: and I agree to disagree. But somehow in this country,
- 11:17Speaker 3: and we could spend three or four shows talking about that, John,
- 11:20Speaker 3: we've kind of gotten away from that. And that's that's
- 11:22Speaker 3: not the way that that it was intended to be
- 11:24Speaker 3: in my opinion, in.
- 11:25Speaker 4: My professional world as attorneys, you would think that two
- 11:27Speaker 4: lawyers were going at each other's throats and then we
- 11:31Speaker 4: could go off and have lunch together. I think in
- 11:33Speaker 4: terms of trial lawyers, we still have that camaraderie, that
- 11:36Speaker 4: respect that we can be very aggressive in the court
- 11:39Speaker 4: room but not take it outside of the courtroom. I
- 11:42Speaker 4: don't see why we can't do that politically as well.
- 11:45Speaker 4: The mudslinging the well, we could. We could start a
- 11:49Speaker 4: presidential racing then roll all day exactly. It doesn't It
- 11:52Speaker 4: doesn't agree.
- 11:53Speaker 3: With how has the campaign been so far? I mean,
- 11:55Speaker 3: what what is your campaign style? You were obviously you've
- 11:57Speaker 3: campaigned before, as you mentioned, you were in the legislature,
- 11:59Speaker 3: So what is your what's your campaign styling?
- 12:02Speaker 4: Much different? We didn't have the social media, multimedia type
- 12:06Speaker 4: of campaigns twenty five years ago. You're very right, you
- 12:09Speaker 4: marching your praise and youno, doors knocked doors and and
- 12:15Speaker 4: quite frankly, I don't have that ability. I have a
- 12:18Speaker 4: full time practice still and most people don't know, but
- 12:22Speaker 4: I am a single father of two young children. I've
- 12:24Speaker 4: been raising by myself twenty four to seven now, since
- 12:27Speaker 4: they were babies. They're now eleven and seven. But I
- 12:30Speaker 4: don't have the luxury of going out every day knocking
- 12:32Speaker 4: on doors. You are as much a part as anybody.
- 12:36Speaker 4: I'm investing money's campaigns, investing money and the multimedia aspects
- 12:40Speaker 4: of it. I can't keep uping but yard signs. People
- 12:43Speaker 4: want the yard signs. I think they want them for
- 12:46Speaker 4: maybe for targets or deer season coming.
- 12:49Speaker 2: In, But.
- 12:52Speaker 4: That's it. It's words getting out. One thing I have
- 12:54Speaker 4: going for me is I have practice here in the value.
- 12:56Speaker 4: I do have some name recognition, and I always say
- 12:59Speaker 4: I'm playing off of that as well.
- 13:01Speaker 3: I don't know if there are any I know there
- 13:03Speaker 3: there will be some various meat the candidates forums and
- 13:06Speaker 3: things of that nature. Is that something that you and
- 13:08Speaker 3: your opponent would would be open to you? I know
- 13:10Speaker 3: you can't speak for her, but is this something that
- 13:12Speaker 3: you would that you'd like to do?
- 13:13Speaker 4: Maybe talk to talk to the public, debah. If there's
- 13:17Speaker 4: anywhere she can get somewhere and be seeing, she's going
- 13:19Speaker 4: to do it. She has been very energetic and has
- 13:22Speaker 4: been for last year. If this was a campaign I
- 13:24Speaker 4: who put the most energy and time into it, she
- 13:27Speaker 4: would win hands down. We don't have any from We've
- 13:31Speaker 4: had a couple ofcations now where we've both been speakers
- 13:33Speaker 4: at the same tribunal so to speak. We were recently
- 13:37Speaker 4: addressing the FOP, and I think that if people, of
- 13:44Speaker 4: course is do people really want to hear it?
- 13:46Speaker 3: Well, what happens a lot of times, unfortunately in the
- 13:49Speaker 3: John in a lot of these meet the Candidates forums
- 13:52Speaker 3: that you have, there are more candidates and or candidates
- 13:54Speaker 3: people there than there are members of the public exactly.
- 13:56Speaker 3: And the bottom line is, if people want to find
- 13:58Speaker 3: out about you, you know, you mentioned using our resources.
- 14:01Speaker 3: There are yard signs, there are there, you know, websites
- 14:05Speaker 3: and so on in social media whatever, they're gonna find
- 14:07Speaker 3: out about you. Speaking of such, where can people learn
- 14:10Speaker 3: more about your campaign?
- 14:12Speaker 4: Well, I never was a very good advertiser. I never
- 14:14Speaker 4: self promoted very well as an attorney. It's always been
- 14:17Speaker 4: by the word. I've never had a site, so to speak.
- 14:21Speaker 4: The Democratic Committee as actually committee, has started something for me.
- 14:25Speaker 4: I do have a basic campaign site, but you know
- 14:29Speaker 4: who I am, I want to stand for. We've pretty
- 14:31Speaker 4: much covered here today. I don't have a magic wand
- 14:34Speaker 4: or a magic remedy.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Give me the final thirty seconds uninterrupted by me watching
- 14:39Speaker 3: someone vote for John Mitchell, prosecutor of Kana Accounting.
- 14:42Speaker 4: Because you're gonna get good results, You're going to get
- 14:45Speaker 4: a world in a lifetime of experience, and somebody has
- 14:48Speaker 4: dedicated themselves to that office and not have any ambition
- 14:51Speaker 4: going to any place outs. I want to beneficial. I
- 14:54Speaker 4: want people to say I did a good job. John.
- 14:56Speaker 3: We wish are the best of luck. We'll probably have
- 14:58Speaker 3: you on again before election day. Thanks a lot, we.
- 15:00Speaker 4: Look forward to that. Thank you very much. Do then

- 19:35Speaker 3: from Scare View are here with us, They were on
- 19:37Speaker 3: with us last year, and they're already in the Halloween spirit.
- 19:39Speaker 3: I'll let you guys introduce yourselves. Go ahead, Don Owens, okay,
- 19:45Speaker 3: say that again. You cut out on me a little
- 19:46Speaker 3: bit there.

- 19:54Speaker 3: me get into the dates. What are the dates?
- 19:57Speaker 10: Starting out in September all the way through October Friday and.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Saturday, September, the twenty seventh and twenty eighth, October fourth, fifth, eleventh,
- 20:04Speaker 3: and twelfth, eighteenth, nineteenth, twenty fifth, and twenty sixth and
- 20:08Speaker 3: to kind of get people ready for that. I understand
- 20:10Speaker 3: that you're not putting on a car show, but you're
- 20:12Speaker 3: kind of just hosting yea.
- 20:14Speaker 10: Car show, car show for the West Virginia Girls Club.
- 20:16Speaker 3: And that is called Ghoules and Gears. Now, which one
- 20:19Speaker 3: of you came up with that? Or did somebody?
- 20:20Speaker 10: They did?
- 20:21Speaker 3: They did the West Virginia Car Girls Group. Interesting title.
- 20:26Speaker 3: And that is going to be on Saturday the fourteenth,
- 20:28Speaker 3: from four to eighth. And that's actually on the grounds
- 20:30Speaker 3: or like where you do scared of youse that right now?
- 20:32Speaker 3: And what is that? In case I forget to ask you?
- 20:34Speaker 11: Where is that?
- 20:35Speaker 10: It's one o nine High Street, Saint Albans, Okay.
- 20:37Speaker 3: One of nine High Street in Saint Albans. You've got
- 20:39Speaker 3: a costume contest, you got a wards, you got concessions
- 20:42Speaker 3: of truck retreat and to get your cars in. It
- 20:45Speaker 3: is ten dollars I think is the registration for that.
- 20:49Speaker 3: So why are we talking about this already? It's not
- 20:51Speaker 3: even it's summertime.
- 20:53Speaker 10: We're trying a new The next Friday, Saturday the sixth,
- 20:58Speaker 10: the seventh, the thirteenth, and fourteenth, we're doing what we
- 21:01Speaker 10: call VIP night you come in, we give you free
- 21:04Speaker 10: realm of the school for forty five.
- 21:06Speaker 3: Minutes, and so what exactly will go on during that time.
- 21:10Speaker 10: Depends because our actors have free room too.
- 21:14Speaker 3: He said in a very in a very foreboding kindaway.
- 21:18Speaker 3: Don yeah, it's uh.
- 21:21Speaker 4: Ah yeah.
- 21:21Speaker 11: We'll be waiting for you in the darkness and we'll
- 21:23Speaker 11: kind of surprise you with what you're going to see.
- 21:27Speaker 3: Okay, so we'll just leave it at that, right, What
- 21:29Speaker 3: are there any age restrictions on getting him?
- 21:32Speaker 12: No?
- 21:33Speaker 3: So any any ages welcome?
- 21:35Speaker 2: Right?
- 21:35Speaker 10: Yep? Okay, fifteen dollars per person. Like I said, you
- 21:39Speaker 10: get forty five minutes.
- 21:40Speaker 4: In the building.
- 21:41Speaker 3: So how many years has this thing been going on?
- 21:43Speaker 10: Since two thousand and eight?
- 21:44Speaker 3: Two thousand and eight? And were you guys in it
- 21:46Speaker 3: from the very beginning? I was, Okay, what made you
- 21:48Speaker 3: want to do this?
- 21:49Speaker 10: I've been doing it since I was fourteen.
- 21:52Speaker 3: You're just a scary guy for forty nine now, so
- 21:55Speaker 3: you just started doing honted houses?
- 21:57Speaker 10: Love it?
- 21:57Speaker 3: How many are you originally from this? Did you grow
- 22:00Speaker 3: up here? Okay?
- 22:01Speaker 10: Sunfieldrew?
- 22:02Speaker 3: Okay, so were there a lot of these around?
- 22:05Speaker 13: There were, but they weren't as big they were like
- 22:08Speaker 13: just little. The best one I can think of was
- 22:11Speaker 13: the Myers House in Saint Albans. That's the one that
- 22:13Speaker 13: always got me.
- 22:14Speaker 3: Okay, well what was it was just a little house.
- 22:16Speaker 3: What was so special about that?
- 22:18Speaker 10: Chainsaws coming through the wall.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Well, okay, that's It's always good.
- 22:21Speaker 11: So I've been to a longer, Jamie. I've been to
- 22:23Speaker 11: Sin saus In College in nineteen eighty nine and uh
- 22:26Speaker 11: we actually uh I'm from the Princeton area originally, and
- 22:30Speaker 11: we actually built the Princeton Library, doing a haunted house
- 22:33Speaker 11: out of the old post office that they had there
- 22:35Speaker 11: in Princeton. So I've been doing this quite a long time,
- 22:39Speaker 11: talking to the.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Folks with Scare of You the Dave Island showing five
- 22:41Speaker 3: Idea Live Bright to you apart by your hometown baseball team,
- 22:44Speaker 3: Charleston Dirty Birds. Birds kick off a three game road
- 22:46Speaker 3: series tonight in Hagarstown. Their final regular season home series
- 22:50Speaker 3: starts this Friday night at Gomark Ballpark. For ticket schedules, merchandise,
- 22:53Speaker 3: and more, visit dirty Birds Baseball dot com. Let's play
- 22:56Speaker 3: amateur psychologists here for a moment down Jamie, why is
- 22:59Speaker 3: it that people like to be scared? I mean, people
- 23:02Speaker 3: in their right minds shouldn't want to be scared, but
- 23:04Speaker 3: people do. It's a multimillion dollar industry.
- 23:06Speaker 10: Why is that it took over Christmas?
- 23:10Speaker 3: It is, that's true. Halloween is now bigger. I mean
- 23:13Speaker 3: from a merchandising standpoint, specifically for that Halloween is now
- 23:16Speaker 3: bigger than Christmas.
- 23:17Speaker 10: I don't think it's people like some people do like
- 23:20Speaker 10: to get scared.
- 23:22Speaker 13: I think that a lot of people it's the adrenaline rush,
- 23:26Speaker 13: just like anything else, like jumping off a bridge. I
- 23:28Speaker 13: don't want to jump off a bridge, but they.
- 23:31Speaker 3: Do it right, there's a lot of adrenaline.
- 23:33Speaker 13: Adrenaline rush. A lot of people just like to look
- 23:36Speaker 13: at the scenes and stuff that people put together. It's
- 23:39Speaker 13: a complete artistic art.
- 23:41Speaker 10: It's an art form basically.
- 23:42Speaker 3: And it takes a lot of volunteers I would imagine
- 23:44Speaker 3: pull this thing off. Yes, I mean because you guys
- 23:47Speaker 3: aren't in this for the money.
- 23:48Speaker 10: No, No, this all benefits the West Side Volunteer Fire Department.
- 23:51Speaker 10: They owned the building, they owned the property.
- 23:53Speaker 3: It's all on them, and I'm assuming that their members
- 23:56Speaker 3: help out with it as well. And this is something
- 23:59Speaker 3: I mean literally, you guys, if you ended up last year.
- 24:02Speaker 3: Let me just say, a couple of days before Halloween,
- 24:04Speaker 3: probably started like November first, working on next year's.
- 24:07Speaker 10: Right, basically, yeah, I'm working on next year.
- 24:09Speaker 3: Yeah, we started playing for next year and you've not
- 24:11Speaker 3: even gone through this year.
- 24:12Speaker 10: Now.
- 24:12Speaker 3: In the green room, I was talking with you guys,
- 24:14Speaker 3: and I mentioned that you were on the show last year,
- 24:16Speaker 3: but you seem to have a little extra excitement about
- 24:18Speaker 3: this year now. I mean, I know last year's was
- 24:20Speaker 3: off the hook, but you got you got a little
- 24:22Speaker 3: extra something this year.
- 24:24Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 24:25Speaker 10: It's completely remodeled.
- 24:26Speaker 3: So if people go out Jamie, it's not going to
- 24:29Speaker 3: be what they saw last year. There'll be some similarities,
- 24:31Speaker 3: but it's all new, and I guess to have a
- 24:33Speaker 3: successful event, you have to change it.
- 24:35Speaker 10: Yes.
- 24:36Speaker 3: How much input do you get from the people that
- 24:39Speaker 3: come there, guys? I mean when your your customers, so
- 24:41Speaker 3: to speak, or your your victims when they show up
- 24:45Speaker 3: and they say, hey, this is awesome, we like this,
- 24:47Speaker 3: maybe didn't like this as much. How much does the
- 24:49Speaker 3: public have to do with this?
- 24:51Speaker 4: A lot?
- 24:52Speaker 10: I take a lot of that to heart.
- 24:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean you take the compliments and criticism. I guess,
- 24:58Speaker 3: so what should if? Because sometimes I know when I
- 25:01Speaker 3: had you guys on last year, I had a few
- 25:02Speaker 3: tacks of the show. Afterwards, people said, well, I want
- 25:05Speaker 3: to take my eight year old. Is it recommended for
- 25:07Speaker 3: an eight year old? I always say it all depends
- 25:09Speaker 3: on the eight year old. I mean, would you guys
- 25:11Speaker 3: agree with that? Because not every kid nor any of
- 25:14Speaker 3: all adults are the same. But what's a good rule
- 25:16Speaker 3: of thumb on this? You know your kid, I guess right.
- 25:21Speaker 11: I mean, for example, my daughters, they were acting and
- 25:24Speaker 11: scary of you before they were eight. Okay, and they're
- 25:27Speaker 11: sixteen and fourteen.
- 25:28Speaker 13: Now both my kids grew up and they're twenty and
- 25:30Speaker 13: twenty one. My daughter still participates.
- 25:33Speaker 3: Well that's awesome.
- 25:34Speaker 10: I mean, you know, we've had sixteen month olds to
- 25:38Speaker 10: one hundred year olds do.
- 25:39Speaker 3: It any Has there been any bad stories or anything
- 25:42Speaker 3: that's happened. Anybody just said I can't take this and
- 25:44Speaker 3: started like tearing down the walls and stuff.
- 25:46Speaker 10: I mean, we've had the fibulators kicking, We've had people
- 25:50Speaker 10: pass out, been taken out in ambulances.
- 25:52Speaker 11: Loose control of BIY fluids.
- 25:53Speaker 3: Well, that's always good, that's always good. That's what you
- 25:56Speaker 3: always look bad. No, no thing these things are just
- 26:01Speaker 3: so so. I mean, as we get closer to the
- 26:04Speaker 3: Halloween season, guys, you're start seeing it on your on
- 26:06Speaker 3: your Facebook feeds. People start saying, where's the haunted houses
- 26:09Speaker 3: in this area, where's the haunted trails? And now it's
- 26:12Speaker 3: just becomes such a big thing. As you alluded to, Jamie,
- 26:15Speaker 3: it's now bigger than Christmas. So you got people that
- 26:18Speaker 3: set out and I know people that have done this
- 26:20Speaker 3: on the weekends. They pack up the car when they
- 26:22Speaker 3: get off work on Friday and they hit every haunted
- 26:24Speaker 3: house in you know, two or three state region. So
- 26:28Speaker 3: what is it that set yours apart? Because you, guys
- 26:32Speaker 3: think you got the best, and I'm sure everybody does,
- 26:34Speaker 3: but you feel pretty calm. What is it that sets
- 26:36Speaker 3: yours apart?
- 26:36Speaker 4: Our staff?
- 26:37Speaker 11: Okay, we have a really top notch staff that really
- 26:40Speaker 11: puts one hundred and fifty percent into everything. And then
- 26:43Speaker 11: the builders actually, you know, Jamie's the big minds behind
- 26:48Speaker 11: most of it. Just the ideas that pop out from
- 26:52Speaker 11: the members of this I mean members of our staff
- 26:54Speaker 11: give us ideas. They might not be able to build it,
- 26:56Speaker 11: but they'll throw in suggestions and we'll take a look
- 26:59Speaker 11: at and see if it works, and then just the
- 27:02Speaker 11: figuring out how to make things work. I mean, you'd
- 27:04Speaker 11: be surprised some the stuff you can use the must
- 27:06Speaker 11: people go why are you using that? And what's done
- 27:08Speaker 11: and go, oh, that's why it looks pretty good. But yeah,
- 27:11Speaker 11: that's that's the big thing to me is the staff
- 27:13Speaker 11: and the builders is really what sets it apart.
- 27:17Speaker 3: Talk about the support of the community, because I mean,
- 27:19Speaker 3: you could have easily have done this one year and
- 27:21Speaker 3: been a one and done, because there are events that
- 27:23Speaker 3: people just don't come out for, or somebody has a
- 27:25Speaker 3: bad experience and they you know, word of mouth gets
- 27:27Speaker 3: out there, whatever. Talk about the support of the Saint Albans,
- 27:30Speaker 3: not just Saint Albans, but this entire part of the state,
- 27:32Speaker 3: because literally, i mean everybody comes out for this thing.
- 27:35Speaker 3: Talk about the support of the community.
- 27:37Speaker 10: It's been excellent, it's been great.
- 27:39Speaker 13: I mean, you're going to have a few that say naysayers,
- 27:42Speaker 13: but the rest of the part, we do anything that
- 27:44Speaker 13: we can possible.
- 27:46Speaker 10: If you bring your kid up and it's five years
- 27:48Speaker 10: old and it don't want to go through and you've already.
- 27:50Speaker 13: Paid, you get a little bit antsy about it, We'll
- 27:53Speaker 13: let you go through, keep the kid over there.
- 27:56Speaker 10: We'll talk the kid into going through. So we do
- 28:00Speaker 10: turned lights on for kids and stuff. They everybody knows
- 28:03Speaker 10: that about scare of you.
- 28:05Speaker 3: Approximately, give me a ballpark figure how many people went
- 28:08Speaker 3: through this last year?
- 28:10Speaker 10: Seven hundred.
- 28:14Speaker 11: Excuse probably much more than that. That was one night.
- 28:17Speaker 10: I would say right around ten fifteen thousand something like that.
- 28:23Speaker 10: I'm running there about ten more than ten.
- 28:25Speaker 3: That's amazing. Well, I mean, you know, you say that nonchalantly,
- 28:28Speaker 3: but that's pretty big.
- 28:29Speaker 10: I mean to have that your weight time is going
- 28:31Speaker 10: to be about two or three hours.
- 28:33Speaker 11: Okay, but we will keep you entertained.
- 28:35Speaker 10: What do you keep you entertained? We don't let you
- 28:37Speaker 10: sit out there and get bored.
- 28:40Speaker 3: How many people can go through this at one time
- 28:43Speaker 3: a group of ten, So you take them in groups
- 28:45Speaker 3: of ten.
- 28:46Speaker 10: So if you've got to have at least four to
- 28:48Speaker 10: five groups in the building at a time.
- 28:50Speaker 3: So if somebody's bringing a large group of people, should
- 28:52Speaker 3: they contact you ahead of time and say, hey, we've
- 28:54Speaker 3: got twelve. You know, we're bringing a group up from
- 28:57Speaker 3: from Rome County and we've got twelve.
- 28:59Speaker 10: Is that something? Take care of that?
- 29:01Speaker 3: What is the best way to reach you guys if
- 29:02Speaker 3: you have information like your Facebook.
- 29:04Speaker 13: We've got two different Facebook pages, one by the Fire Department,
- 29:07Speaker 13: one by myself. One's scare View, one scare of your
- 29:09Speaker 13: Groove School, our own individual characters.
- 29:13Speaker 10: That we have on there. Any anyway like that, ntanger,
- 29:17Speaker 10: text whatever.
- 29:18Speaker 3: Okay, let's get back to the car show before we
- 29:20Speaker 3: let you go. It's kind of kicked this thing off.
- 29:22Speaker 3: You guys are going to host It's the West Virginia
- 29:24Speaker 3: Car Girls, Ghouls and Gears car Show on Saturday the
- 29:27Speaker 3: fourteenth from four it's tell eight pm. Show Registration is
- 29:30Speaker 3: ten dollars. People want to register, they just reach out
- 29:32Speaker 3: to the Facebook page. I know you guys are just
- 29:34Speaker 3: hosting it. They reach out to the car Girls West
- 29:36Speaker 3: Virginia Car Girls, Okay, and that's going to kind of
- 29:39Speaker 3: kick things off and again. The dates of the actual
- 29:41Speaker 3: scare View September twenty seventh and twenty eighth, October fourth, fifth,
- 29:44Speaker 3: eleventh and twelfth, eighteenth, nineteenth, twenty fifth, and twenty sixth.
- 29:48Speaker 3: The location is on High Street in Saint Albans. Price
- 29:52Speaker 3: to get in twelve dollars or ten dollars with a
- 29:54Speaker 3: nonperishable food donation that's that's pretty cool that you do that.
- 29:57Speaker 3: Where did that idea come from?
- 29:59Speaker 13: Just something we years ago? We've never our prices have
- 30:02Speaker 13: never been above twelve dollars, all right. We started out
- 30:05Speaker 13: eight and ten and we're now at ten and twelve.
- 30:06Speaker 3: And I see him roaming around in the hallway out there,
- 30:09Speaker 3: our man Steve Animal from our sister station nine eight
- 30:12Speaker 3: seven of the Mountain Wild, wonderful classic rock, who is
- 30:15Speaker 3: pretty scary in his own right. Steve's going to be there,
- 30:16Speaker 3: I think, broadcasting live at least a couple of times.

- 34:51Speaker 2: You know you are.
- 34:53Speaker 8: Oh yeah, you had a good time.
- 34:54Speaker 13: I did.
- 34:55Speaker 3: I had a very good time for you.
- 34:56Speaker 8: Everybody needs to take vacation well, and I'm away.
- 34:59Speaker 3: And I it, you know, the week before Labor Day,
- 35:02Speaker 3: and so I also got a bonus day.
- 35:04Speaker 8: Yes, oh yeah.
- 35:05Speaker 6: You know.
- 35:05Speaker 8: I grew up in the generation and I'm guilty of
- 35:07Speaker 8: it as well. Of you work. You work twenty four
- 35:10Speaker 8: you know, twenty four hours, seven days a week. It's
- 35:12Speaker 8: super not healthy.
- 35:14Speaker 15: I got into that many many years ago, and I
- 35:17Speaker 15: think it was just generational, right, that was just our
- 35:20Speaker 15: age group because our parents did it. I mean, my
- 35:23Speaker 15: dad always had always had two to three jobs period
- 35:27Speaker 15: my whole life.
- 35:28Speaker 8: I never knew him to not have two or three jobs.
- 35:31Speaker 15: And my mom went back to schoolish game and teacher,
- 35:33Speaker 15: and so I think it was just kind of the
- 35:35Speaker 15: you know, you work, you work, and then you know,
- 35:37Speaker 15: when you get older, then you can retire, but then
- 35:40Speaker 15: you can't move.
- 35:41Speaker 3: There was a time in my life that I did
- 35:43Speaker 3: not take vacations at all.
- 35:45Speaker 8: I know me too, and it's not healthy.
- 35:46Speaker 3: And at some point I guess at middle well I'm
- 35:49Speaker 3: well beyond middle age now, but at some point I
- 35:51Speaker 3: just said, you know what, screw this. Yeah, well I'm
- 35:54Speaker 3: going to start taking a little bit of time off
- 35:56Speaker 3: here and there. And you know, I tried to make
- 35:57Speaker 3: the problem with radio television, and then there are other
- 36:00Speaker 3: careers like that too, is it. Well, it impacts ten
- 36:03Speaker 3: other people when you take time off, you know, so
- 36:06Speaker 3: it's not just about you not being there. You got
- 36:08Speaker 3: to put this in place and that in place and whatever.
- 36:09Speaker 3: And when I come back sometimes I think it I've
- 36:11Speaker 3: never taken off again.
- 36:12Speaker 8: But yeah, then you work out.
- 36:14Speaker 15: But I will say this, you know. It's you know,
- 36:16Speaker 15: people say, well, you know, do you work all the time. Well,
- 36:19Speaker 15: we're city government. We have to work all the time.
- 36:21Speaker 15: City services don't stop just because it's Thanksgiving. If it
- 36:26Speaker 15: floods or you fall down, you know a flight of
- 36:28Speaker 15: steps and need us to tend to your broken angle.
- 36:31Speaker 15: We're common so those you know, those folks, And it is,
- 36:35Speaker 15: you know, more more that we learn and more that
- 36:39Speaker 15: our leadership has really embraced the philosophy of especially especially
- 36:44Speaker 15: the folks who are our first responders. They need time off.
- 36:47Speaker 15: They need time off, they need to take care of themselves.
- 36:50Speaker 15: I'm a big believer in body mind connection. And you
- 36:53Speaker 15: know how you feel in your body is also probably
- 36:55Speaker 15: how you feel in your brain.
- 36:56Speaker 3: And I want to get into something else. And we
- 37:00Speaker 3: actually have a call away to night, and he got
- 37:01Speaker 3: several takes, several takes as well. College football is back.
- 37:05Speaker 3: Not a good saturday for the Mountaineers. It was a
- 37:08Speaker 3: good saturday for the thundering hurts that was. And I'm
- 37:10Speaker 3: going to allow you to be a proud mama for
- 37:13Speaker 3: a moment. Good Saturday for the Marshall Band, of which
- 37:15Speaker 3: one of the baby Boy good Ones is a part of.
- 37:17Speaker 15: He is Yeah, he says to me all the time, Mom,
- 37:20Speaker 15: Please stop saying I play the four drums.
- 37:23Speaker 8: They're called quads.
- 37:24Speaker 15: He's the kid that has the harness on and the
- 37:26Speaker 15: four big drums in front of them with his hands flying.
- 37:29Speaker 8: I will just say this.
- 37:30Speaker 15: I won't I won't brag too much, although he's fabulous.
- 37:32Speaker 15: I will say this about marsh University. Now'm a house divided.
- 37:34Speaker 15: You know that WU and Marshall Brad Smith, what Brad
- 37:38Speaker 15: Smith has done for marsh University. And oh, by the way,
- 37:41Speaker 15: it's not just Brad Smith, but I do believe this.
- 37:44Speaker 15: In leaders he hired Christian Spears, who has just done
- 37:48Speaker 15: a phenomenal job. And then folks like doctor Schleder who
- 37:52Speaker 15: runs the music department at Marshall University. The band has
- 37:56Speaker 15: grown from one fifty to one eighty two. His goal
- 37:59Speaker 15: was like two fifty for the band.
- 38:01Speaker 8: And while my.
- 38:03Speaker 15: Husband loves college football, loves loves us. He's not an
- 38:06Speaker 15: you know, he's not a National league guy. He's more
- 38:08Speaker 15: of a college college football watcher. He loves the football.
- 38:13Speaker 8: I'm sorry, I love the band.
- 38:14Speaker 15: You know, when they said, oh, you can't go back
- 38:16Speaker 15: out side to tailgate, they won't give you the past
- 38:18Speaker 15: to come back in, I'm like, I never go out anyways.
- 38:20Speaker 15: I'm here to watch the band. And I wasn't a
- 38:23Speaker 15: band kid. I was an athlete all through school. But
- 38:25Speaker 15: I love the band because these kids work so incredibly
- 38:29Speaker 15: hard and do so much to increase the fun at
- 38:34Speaker 15: the at the football games and the shows. And it
- 38:37Speaker 15: was wonderful because the halftime show at Marshall after the
- 38:40Speaker 15: storms came through, they had high schools, different high schools
- 38:46Speaker 15: come and you got to march on the big field
- 38:48Speaker 15: with the big kids.
- 38:49Speaker 8: And I think that's really really smart.
- 38:51Speaker 3: And they also want to throw this out there before
- 38:53Speaker 3: we move on the paint the Capitol City Green event
- 38:56Speaker 3: up to Bill No Flight School a couple of we
- 38:58Speaker 3: did a great job. Well, thank you. We had a
- 39:00Speaker 3: good time with it. But having the band up there
- 39:02Speaker 3: for that was it was. It was an added bonus
- 39:06Speaker 3: this year. And that the event was sold out. I
- 39:07Speaker 3: mean you couldn't got another person on the mountain. I
- 39:09Speaker 3: don't think up there it was completely sold was really great.
- 39:11Speaker 8: Well they're doing they're doing a great job.
- 39:13Speaker 15: They really are doing a great job, and they're involving
- 39:15Speaker 15: more more folks and we're pleased.
- 39:17Speaker 8: We're really really really please. And plus I love Green.

- 39:32Speaker 3: we have a call for the mail. Let's go to
- 39:33Speaker 3: the phones. Good morning, you're on the air with the mayor. Hello, Hey,
- 39:37Speaker 3: it's Jim.
- 39:38Speaker 16: Jim, how the shoes be on their tray. I don't
- 39:45Speaker 16: even have a monitor. Better, I picked a good.
- 39:47Speaker 8: Day, Jim. How are you my honey.
- 39:51Speaker 16: Well, I'm doing fairly well. Uh. I have left the
- 39:56Speaker 16: nursing home with Sysville. I don't want anybody to pity
- 40:03Speaker 16: me or anything like that, but I have no one
- 40:06Speaker 16: to take care of me now. I kind of got
- 40:10Speaker 16: through and under the bus a little bit. And but
- 40:13Speaker 16: that's all right. I'm a Thurrogate nineteen Chesterfield at Charleston Nursing.
- 40:22Speaker 16: Oh yeah, yeah, and this place is great. Yeah.
- 40:27Speaker 15: You're on Chesterfield right, Chesterfield Avenue, Okay, yeah, I know
- 40:31Speaker 15: where that is, right across from the old church.
- 40:33Speaker 16: Right, So there's no excuse for Dave Allen.
- 40:36Speaker 8: Yeah, maybe we should do the right show.
- 40:41Speaker 3: I'll put Ryan in charge of that. Ryan Nichols and
- 40:43Speaker 3: my producers in charge of that. Well, Jim, we're glad
- 40:45Speaker 3: to hear from youbody. What else you got?
- 40:48Speaker 16: Well, I wanted to let you know I'm going to
- 40:50Speaker 16: be working on a project with ADS. We've had two tragedies.
- 40:58Speaker 16: One students from middle school Boom County that passed away
- 41:06Speaker 16: and I never did hear what the status was on
- 41:09Speaker 16: the second one.
- 41:11Speaker 3: There was a kid, you as a kid from Huntington
- 41:14Speaker 3: Saint Joe Middle School. I think that was injured. I
- 41:16Speaker 3: haven't heard an update on that either, Jim, But go ahead.
- 41:20Speaker 16: I am going to work on a project. I don't
- 41:23Speaker 16: want to give out any d kills right now because
- 41:28Speaker 16: I might have coffeecats. But you know how hard I
- 41:32Speaker 16: try to work in the mayor news and I would
- 41:35Speaker 16: do anything, kill anybody.
- 41:38Speaker 15: Well, you're a first responder. That's how you spent your career,
- 41:41Speaker 15: and so listen. I think that having AEDs and all
- 41:47Speaker 15: of our locations are incredibly important. Not only do we
- 41:50Speaker 15: need to do that, Jim, we need to have stop
- 41:53Speaker 15: the bleed kits. We need to have one boxes or
- 41:56Speaker 15: a narcan also in our facilities. We need to be
- 42:00Speaker 15: prepared when something bad happens. We hope it never does.
- 42:04Speaker 15: But I tend to agree with you and counsel Woman
- 42:07Speaker 15: Jeanine Favor and I worked last year to ensure that
- 42:12Speaker 15: we had AEDs in our all of our facilities because
- 42:16Speaker 15: we've got a lot of people that come in and
- 42:17Speaker 15: out of our city buildings.
- 42:19Speaker 8: And I hear what you're saying, thank you for that, Jim.
- 42:21Speaker 3: Jim, I go ahead and wrap it up there, Jim.
- 42:25Speaker 16: Okay, all right, So I will get back with you
- 42:28Speaker 16: all days if you don't mind, And as soon as
- 42:31Speaker 16: I get it all set up, I will give you
- 42:35Speaker 16: the details and everything like that. It's a worthwhile project
- 42:40Speaker 16: that I want to help with.
- 42:41Speaker 3: All right, Jim, We appreciate the phone call. Thanks a lot.
- 42:43Speaker 3: Eleven minutes away from ten, Dave Allen showing five Adeline

- 42:48Speaker 3: that your favorite husbands get a large eighteen inch Pepperoni
- 42:50Speaker 3: pizza and an Aiden's chocolate chip cookie Only twenty three
- 42:53Speaker 3: ninety nine. Mayor Kat Skelton has a story posted this
- 42:56Speaker 3: morning wv Metro News dot com about tourism in Charles.
- 42:59Speaker 3: Scenario talked about this with a frequent guest of this show,
- 43:03Speaker 3: You're a good friend to buy Tim Brady at the
- 43:04Speaker 3: Charleston CVB, particularly sports tourism. It is it's simply huge.
- 43:09Speaker 3: It's it.
- 43:10Speaker 10: It's it.
- 43:11Speaker 15: You know, it's a forty plus billion dollar industry that
- 43:16Speaker 15: Charleston and the surrounding area is just starting to get
- 43:19Speaker 15: a taste of that financial impact. And that's the reason
- 43:23Speaker 15: why you know, we're taking a this isn't you know,
- 43:25Speaker 15: licking your finger and putting it to the wind, which.
- 43:27Speaker 8: Way is it going? We see it, We see it clearly.
- 43:30Speaker 15: Even through the pandemic, even through inflationary times. It was
- 43:36Speaker 15: a part of the growing economy across the country. And
- 43:41Speaker 15: we're behind quite frankly, we're behind, as we are in
- 43:45Speaker 15: some things, but we're quickly getting up there. You know,
- 43:47Speaker 15: you don't have to look too far to our wonderful
- 43:50Speaker 15: Mayor Chris Tatum in Barbersville, who's expanding Hurricane boy gee.
- 43:56Speaker 8: Whiz, I toured those baseball facilities.
- 43:58Speaker 3: A fantastic we're doing it right now.
- 44:00Speaker 8: Yeah, right, And so you know Dunbar shawnee.
- 44:03Speaker 15: Oh, by the way, you haven't heard me say Charleston
- 44:05Speaker 15: because guess why I believe this.
- 44:08Speaker 8: I know Tim believes this. We all believe that. Secretary
- 44:10Speaker 8: Ruby believes this. I know she does.
- 44:12Speaker 15: I worked in in glove with her for years. A
- 44:14Speaker 15: rising Dunbar, a rising South Charleston, arising anywhere outside of
- 44:22Speaker 15: the city limits of Charleston. We're only thirty three square miles.
- 44:25Speaker 15: People don't care. We talked about that a couple weeks.
- 44:27Speaker 3: People people don't stop.
- 44:28Speaker 8: At borders, so they don't care.
- 44:30Speaker 3: They don't know if they need a hotel room, if
- 44:32Speaker 3: they're in Charleston, they don't really notice. Well, this is
- 44:34Speaker 3: in Thiss in Dunbar, this is in her account. I'm
- 44:36Speaker 3: not going to say that that's right. One of the
- 44:37Speaker 3: big events, Mayor, I want to mention before we go
- 44:39Speaker 3: to break, it's going to be Friday. It'll be October
- 44:43Speaker 3: twenty fifth, of the twenty seventh. And this was included
- 44:45Speaker 3: in Cat's story. It's the USA Karate All American Classic.
- 44:48Speaker 3: According to the story, around eight hundred kids are going
- 44:52Speaker 3: to be coming in over that weekend October twenty fifth
- 44:54Speaker 3: of the twenty seventh. Now eight hundred kids, and that
- 44:58Speaker 3: average is what two to three people. That's all on average,
- 45:02Speaker 3: that's a lot. That's a lot of butts in bedstats.
- 45:05Speaker 8: That's right.
- 45:05Speaker 15: And the keyword in that is USA. Right because you know,
- 45:10Speaker 15: again I keep throwing her out there, because she noted
- 45:13Speaker 15: this in her State of the Valley speech, is that
- 45:17Speaker 15: we are on a national and international stage. Charleston is
- 45:21Speaker 15: not just with USA Karate, not just with USA Cycling,
- 45:25Speaker 15: not just USA Volleyball, us A table tennis. We are
- 45:29Speaker 15: really bringing in some of these events that are not
- 45:33Speaker 15: only good locally for us, but good for the state
- 45:36Speaker 15: of West Virginia to put the state on such a
- 45:40Speaker 15: positive national stage. You know, we talk all the time
- 45:43Speaker 15: about return on investment. How much do we get back?
- 45:45Speaker 15: Confusion on return on investment. That's not money I get
- 45:48Speaker 15: in my pocket or the city coffers filling up. It

- 48:37Speaker 3: Today's visit WV metronews dot com. Mayor good One, this
- 48:40Speaker 3: yere tech, says Mayor. In August twenty twenty two, Mayor
- 48:42Speaker 3: good One called the changes in the judicial and criminal system,
- 48:45Speaker 3: stating that the system allows repeat offenders back out onto
- 48:48Speaker 3: our streets. What have you done in regard since these comments?
- 48:52Speaker 3: And will you provide a list of the repeat offenders
- 48:54Speaker 3: judges and prosecutors at issue?
- 48:57Speaker 15: Well, you know, it was such a great, such a
- 49:00Speaker 15: great opportunity to not only share that with the public,
- 49:03Speaker 15: but also right thereafter judges and prosecutors reached out to
- 49:07Speaker 15: me to say, how may we work better with you?
- 49:11Speaker 15: And as a matter of fact, deb Rusnik, who is
- 49:14Speaker 15: the prosecutor, just did a press conference on this two
- 49:18Speaker 15: weeks ago, wanting to work hand in glove. The prosecutor's
- 49:22Speaker 15: office office is plural across the area and especially in
- 49:27Speaker 15: the county with all of our police departments.
- 49:30Speaker 8: Listen, you have to have.
- 49:33Speaker 15: Coordination and cooperation with judges and police police departments because
- 49:40Speaker 15: you know, we can arrest somebody seventeen eighteen, nineteen, twenty times,
- 49:46Speaker 15: but we have to work with the folks who are
- 49:48Speaker 15: sentencing them or not. And they have guidelines, I mean,
- 49:51Speaker 15: let me not you know, let me not diceive you.
- 49:53Speaker 15: They also have rules that they have to follow as well.
- 49:55Speaker 15: But it was really it was great to see this
- 49:58Speaker 15: new prosecutor new she's been there a while, but she's
- 50:02Speaker 15: doing a great job. And she said exactly these same
- 50:04Speaker 15: things in a press conference with I think almost every
- 50:07Speaker 15: chief or head.
- 50:09Speaker 8: Of county law enforcement department standing behind her.
- 50:14Speaker 3: I had her on the show, I think the day
- 50:15Speaker 3: afterwards talk about everybody's favorite subject, paving.
- 50:19Speaker 8: I love paving. I love it.
- 50:21Speaker 3: We like to finish product, yeah.
- 50:23Speaker 15: You know, you know, hopefully, and Mother Nature, boy, she's
- 50:25Speaker 15: really being great to us this week. So paving has begun.
- 50:29Speaker 15: We certainly hope to have it done by October. You know,
- 50:32Speaker 15: sometimes we go into November, but October is the mark.
- 50:36Speaker 15: We're paving thirteen point I don't know, thirteen and a
- 50:41Speaker 15: half fourteen miles of road and these thirty three square miles,
- 50:44Speaker 15: so it's a lot of paving. It's paving, it's concrete
- 50:49Speaker 15: work as well. Some of our roads, not many are
- 50:51Speaker 15: still concrete, so we work on that and also curb
- 50:54Speaker 15: cuts as well. So we're doing paving, we're required to
- 50:56Speaker 15: do those curb cuts, so you're going to see a
- 50:58Speaker 15: lot of that. Thanks for being paid, Thanks for being kind.
- 51:01Speaker 15: I talked to a great group of folks that live
- 51:04Speaker 15: on Alexandria play something South Hills and they said, how
- 51:06Speaker 15: come you're doing two roads that are buy ours and
- 51:08Speaker 15: not ours. Well, we're getting ready to do some stormwater
- 51:11Speaker 15: drain repairs and sometimes we have to rip up the
- 51:14Speaker 15: road we're not gonna pave it, and then have to
- 51:16Speaker 15: rip it up and repave it again. By the way,
- 51:18Speaker 15: that happens. Sometimes we hate it when it happens because
- 51:21Speaker 15: it's just a waste of money. But that is what
- 51:24Speaker 15: we're focused on right now. Certainly paving is extremely important,
- 51:29Speaker 15: and you know, really, Dave, these are the things that
- 51:32Speaker 15: believe it or not, you know, we have city council tonight.
- 51:35Speaker 15: Believe it or not, No reporter has called me about
- 51:37Speaker 15: the two street sweepers that we're gonna buy, or the
- 51:40Speaker 15: new light package that we're putting in the back of
- 51:42Speaker 15: our police officers.
- 51:44Speaker 8: You know, cars.
- 51:45Speaker 15: These are the things that we work on every single day.
- 51:49Speaker 15: This is you know, keeping the streets paved, keeping them clean,
- 51:53Speaker 15: keeping our you know, police officers out and our firefighters with.
- 51:59Speaker 8: The equipment that they need. They also have some things
- 52:02Speaker 8: on the agenda.
- 52:03Speaker 15: Tonight, so you know, refuse citations, making sure that they're up,
- 52:09Speaker 15: and our team has the equipment that they need to
- 52:11Speaker 15: make sure that people are following the rules. That's city
- 52:15Speaker 15: government ninety nine percent of the time. It is not sexy,
- 52:18Speaker 15: but it is the work that we do and the
- 52:20Speaker 15: work that we love to do, and the seven hundred
- 52:23Speaker 15: and forty plus employees that I get to work with
- 52:25Speaker 15: every day. Those are the things that we that we
- 52:28Speaker 15: work on. And it's funny, you know when we have
- 52:30Speaker 15: a when people say, oh, there's not much on the
- 52:33Speaker 15: you know agenda tonight. No, there's like eight things on
- 52:37Speaker 15: the agenda tonight.
- 52:39Speaker 8: It's critical work.
- 52:40Speaker 15: It's a lot a lot of money that we're investing
- 52:43Speaker 15: in our equipment and our own people, and it's important.
- 52:47Speaker 3: It's important, Tex says Mayor Amy. Thank you for continuing
- 52:50Speaker 3: to do a fine job.
- 52:51Speaker 8: Oh thank you, dad, that's say how did you chach.
- 52:56Speaker 4: That to the show?
- 52:56Speaker 3: Why the show Mayor, I appreciate you being here. Thanks
