Transcript
- 0:00Our journey through the house in the middle of
- 0:02the forest continues. In our last conversation,
- 0:06we discovered that some windows quietly changed
- 0:09the atmosphere of a home, not because they are
- 0:12large, but because they are left unguarded. We
- 0:17walked past the window of words, where we learned
- 0:20that life and death are in the power of the tongue.
- 0:24Then we stopped before the window of comparison.
- 0:28where the serpent first convinced humanity that
- 0:31what God had already given was somehow not enough.
- 0:35Finally, we examined the window of influence
- 0:39and discovered that not every voice deserves
- 0:42access to our hearts, our homes, or our marriages.
- 0:47Every voice is planting something. Every conversation
- 0:51is shaping something. Every influence is moving
- 0:54us either closer to Christ or farther away from
- 0:58him. But as I continued reflecting on my father's
- 1:02story, I realized something else. The windows
- 1:07we have already explored are not the only ones.
- 1:11Some windows are easier to recognize. Others
- 1:14remain almost invisible. They quietly remain
- 1:18open for years without anyone noticing the damage
- 1:21they are causing. No loud arguments. No dramatic
- 1:26crisis. No obvious signs. Just a slow change
- 1:30in the atmosphere. Until one day, people begin
- 1:34asking themselves, what happened to us? The answer
- 1:37is often simple. The windows had been open for
- 1:41a very long time. Today, I want us to continue
- 1:46walking around this house. There are still more
- 1:49windows waiting for us. Windows that have quietly
- 1:52threatened not only marriages, but families.
- 1:56ministries, churches, and even entire generations.
- 2:02Because remember, it has never been only about
- 2:05you. Every marriage is influencing someone. Every
- 2:09family is leaving an inheritance. Every Christian
- 2:12home is preaching a message, whether it realizes
- 2:15it or not. So, let's continue our walk. As we
- 2:23make our way around the house, another window
- 2:26comes into view. This one doesn't usually make
- 2:29headlines. It doesn't attract attention. In fact,
- 2:33most people believe they can manage it on their
- 2:35own. Because this window is usually opened, one
- 2:39secret at a time, one hidden conversation, one
- 2:43hidden habit, one hidden struggle, one hidden
- 2:46compromise, until eventually, the hidden becomes
- 2:51heavier than the heart can carry. I call this
- 2:55the window of secrecy, because transparency protects
- 2:59what secrecy quietly destroys. One of Satan's
- 3:04oldest strategies has never been simply to tempt
- 3:06people into sin. His greater strategy is to convince
- 3:10them to hide it. That is exactly what happened
- 3:15in the Garden of Eden. After Adam and Eve sinned,
- 3:19they did not immediately run toward God. They
- 3:22ran away from him. Genesis tells us they hid
- 3:26among the trees of the garden. Think about that
- 3:29for a moment. The God who created the trees.
- 3:33The God who sees every corner of creation. The
- 3:37God before whom nothing is hidden. They tried
- 3:40to hide from him. Sin always convinces us that
- 3:45hiding is safer than healing. But God came walking
- 3:48through the garden asking, where are you? not
- 3:52because he had lost Adam, but because Adam had
- 3:55lost himself. God's question was not about location.
- 4:00It was about relationship. Sin had created distance,
- 4:05and secrecy was making that distance even greater.
- 4:09That same pattern has never changed. When people
- 4:12begin hiding from one another, they eventually
- 4:15begin hiding from God. When husbands stop sharing
- 4:19their struggles, When wives begin carrying silent
- 4:23wounds, when children become afraid to tell the
- 4:26truth, the atmosphere of the house begins to
- 4:30change. Not because God has abandoned the home,
- 4:34but because secrecy has begun replacing transparency.
- 4:39King David understood this better than anyone.
- 4:42After his sin with Bathsheba, he tried to conceal
- 4:46everything. He hid the adultery. He manipulated
- 4:49circumstances. He arranged Uriah's death. For
- 4:54a season, everything appeared normal. The palace
- 4:57still stood. The throne was still his. The kingdom
- 5:01continued functioning. But inside, David was
- 5:06dying. Listen to his own words in Psalm 32. When
- 5:10I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my
- 5:14groaning all day long. For day and night your
- 5:17hand was heavy upon me. My strength was dried
- 5:20up as by the heat of summer. Notice what secrecy
- 5:24did. It didn't only hide the sin. It drained
- 5:29his joy. It stole his peace. It weakened his
- 5:33strength. The greatest burden David carried was
- 5:37not the crown on his head. It was the secret
- 5:41in his heart. David eventually reached the point.
- 5:45where hiding became more painful than confessing.
- 5:50There comes a moment when carrying the secret
- 5:54becomes heavier than bringing it into the light.
- 5:59That is exactly what Psalm 51 is. It is not merely
- 6:03David's prayer after his sin. It is the prayer
- 6:07of every person who has finally stopped hiding.
- 6:11Listen to the cry of his heart. Have mercy on
- 6:14me, O God, according to your unfailing love.
- 6:18According to your great compassion, blot out
- 6:21my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity
- 6:25and cleanse me from my sin. Notice something
- 6:28remarkable. David no longer blames Bathsheba.
- 6:33He no longer blames his circumstances. He no
- 6:36longer tries to explain himself. He simply comes
- 6:40back to God, broken, honest. transparent. That
- 6:44is where restoration begins. Not when we become
- 6:48perfect, but when we become truthful. The enemy
- 6:52says, hide your sin. God says, bring it to me.
- 6:56The enemy says, if people find out, your life
- 7:00is over. God says, if you confess, I will begin
- 7:05restoring what sin has broken. There is something
- 7:09beautiful about God's character. he already knows
- 7:12everything, yet he still invites us to come.
- 7:17Not because confession informs God. Confession
- 7:20transforms us. It tears down the walls we have
- 7:24built between ourselves and the one who has never
- 7:27stopped loving us. John writes these powerful
- 7:31words in his first letter, but if we walk in
- 7:34the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship
- 7:38with one another. and the blood of Jesus his
- 7:41son cleanses us from all sin. Notice, he doesn't
- 7:46say, if we walk perfectly, he says, if we walk
- 7:51in the light. Light is not perfection. Light
- 7:55is honesty. Light is refusing to live behind
- 7:59mass. Light is refusing to build a marriage on
- 8:02appearances while it quietly falls apart behind
- 8:05closed doors. Light is a husband saying, I need
- 8:09help. It is a wife saying, I've been carrying
- 8:12this pain alone. It is parents admitting we need
- 8:16God to restore our family. Walking in the light
- 8:21does not mean we have never failed. It means
- 8:24we no longer allow failure to live in darkness.
- 8:28And then James takes us one step further. Therefore,
- 8:33confess your sins to one another and pray for
- 8:36one another so that you may be healed. Did you
- 8:40notice that? He does not merely connect confession
- 8:43with forgiveness. He connects confession with
- 8:47healing. There are wounds that remain open simply
- 8:52because they have never been brought into the
- 8:55light. Some marriages don't need another vacation.
- 9:00Some don't need a bigger house. Some don't need
- 9:04more money. Some simply need an honest conversation.
- 9:08Some families have spent years protecting an
- 9:11image while neglecting the healing God has been
- 9:14offering all along. Transparency is not weakness.
- 9:19Transparency is courage. It takes far more strength
- 9:23to say, I was wrong than to spend years pretending
- 9:27everything is fine. It takes humility to ask
- 9:30for forgiveness. It takes faith to believe that
- 9:34God's grace is greater than our failures. And
- 9:37that is exactly why secrecy is such a dangerous
- 9:40window. Because secrecy isolates. Transparency
- 9:45reconnects. Secrecy builds walls. Transparency
- 9:49rebuilds relationships. Secrecy suffocates the
- 9:53atmosphere of the home. Transparency allows God's
- 9:58grace to breathe again. The enemy knows something
- 10:02many people forget. He cannot stop God from forgiving
- 10:05you. But if he can convince you to hide, he can
- 10:10keep you from experiencing the freedom that forgiveness
- 10:13brings. That is why Jesus said, everyone who
- 10:17does evil hates the light and will not come into
- 10:21the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.
- 10:25But whoever lives by the truth comes into the
- 10:28light. John 3 20 to 21. Coming into the light
- 10:35is not God's way of humiliating us. It is His
- 10:39way of healing us because every room open to
- 10:43His light becomes another room where His grace
- 10:48can begin its work. The tragedy is very few people
- 10:53intend to destroy their marriage. Very few Christians
- 10:56wake up one morning and decide Today, I want
- 11:00to ruin my family. It almost never happens that
- 11:03way. It happens one hidden decision at a time.
- 11:08One compromise at a time. One secret at a time.
- 11:13Until secrecy slowly creates something else.
- 11:16Isolation. And once a person becomes isolated,
- 11:21another window quietly begins to open. As we
- 11:24continue walking around this house, We arrive
- 11:27at another window, one that looks harmless, one
- 11:31that often disguises itself as friendship, advice,
- 11:35companionship, or simply someone who understands
- 11:39us. I call this the window of influence, because
- 11:44not everyone deserves access to your marriage.
- 11:49Not everyone deserves access to your heart. Not
- 11:53everyone deserves access. To your family, one
- 11:57of the greatest lies of our generation is believing
- 12:01that every voice deserves equal value. The Bible
- 12:05teaches the exact opposite. Scripture repeatedly
- 12:09reminds us that the people we allow closest to
- 12:13us will eventually shape the direction of our
- 12:16lives. Solomon writes in Proverbs, walk with
- 12:21the wise and become wise. for a companion of
- 12:24fools suffers harm. Notice what he does not say.
- 12:28He doesn't say, become wise and then choose wise
- 12:32friends. He says, walk with the wise because
- 12:37influence always precedes transformation. Whoever
- 12:41you consistently walk beside will eventually
- 12:44leave footprints on your own life. The apostle
- 12:48Paul says something just as direct. Do not be
- 12:51deceived. Bad company corrupts good character.
- 12:56I Find those first four words fascinating do
- 13:00not be deceived Why would Paul begin there because
- 13:04influence is rarely obvious? It doesn't announce
- 13:07itself. It doesn't knock on the front door and
- 13:10say I'm here to destroy your marriage No, it
- 13:14comes disguised. It sounds reasonable. It feels
- 13:18comforting It makes us feel understood and before
- 13:22long Its values quietly become our values. Its
- 13:26language becomes our language. Its priorities
- 13:29become our priorities. That is why the enemy
- 13:33has always worked through voices. Long before
- 13:36Eve ever reached for the fruit, she first listened
- 13:40to another voice. Nothing had changed in the
- 13:43garden. God's command had not changed. The tree
- 13:48had not changed. Adam had not changed. What changed
- 13:53was the voice Eve chose to entertain. Every fall
- 13:57begins with a conversation. Sometimes that conversation
- 14:02happens with another person. Sometimes it happens
- 14:06through a screen. Sometimes it happens through
- 14:09entertainment. Sometimes it happens in our own
- 14:12thoughts. But every influence is planting a seed.
- 14:16That is why we must be careful who has access
- 14:19to the atmosphere of our homes. Not every friendship
- 14:23strengthens your covenant. Not every co -worker
- 14:26deserves your emotional vulnerability. Not every
- 14:29family member speaks wisdom. Not every opinion
- 14:32should shape your decisions. Not every social
- 14:35media voice deserves your attention. And this
- 14:38becomes especially important in marriage. One
- 14:42of the most dangerous trends of our generation
- 14:44is the normalization of emotional substitutes.
- 14:49Work husband. Work wife. People laugh. People
- 14:53joke. People call it harmless. But words matter.
- 14:58Relationships matter. Emotional attachment matters.
- 15:03God never designed another man to occupy the
- 15:06emotional place reserved for a husband, nor another
- 15:09woman to occupy the place reserved for a wife.
- 15:13Affairs rarely begin in a bedroom. They usually
- 15:16begin in a conversation, in feeling understood,
- 15:21in repeated emotional dependence, in the belief
- 15:24that they understand me better than my spouse.
- 15:29That sentence has destroyed countless homes.
- 15:32If someone understands you better than your spouse,
- 15:36the solution is not to deepen that outside relationship.
- 15:40The solution is to rebuild communication inside
- 15:43your marriage. Protect the covenant. Protect
- 15:46the atmosphere. Protect the access. Because not
- 15:50everyone deserves a key to the house God entrusted
- 15:54to you. There is something remarkable about everything
- 15:59we have discovered today. The window of secrecy.
- 16:03The window of influence. Neither of them begins
- 16:07with the intention of destroying a marriage.
- 16:11One begins with something hidden. The other begins
- 16:14with someone welcomed. But both quietly change
- 16:19the atmosphere inside the house. And perhaps
- 16:23that is the greatest lesson we have learned throughout
- 16:26this journey. No marriage collapses because of
- 16:30one moment. No family drifts away from God because
- 16:35of one decision. The atmosphere changes long
- 16:39before the house begins to fall. That is why
- 16:42we must guard what enters our hearts, what enters
- 16:46our conversations, what enters our relationships,
- 16:50and what enters our homes. Because every window
- 16:54is an invitation. The question is, who or what
- 17:00are we inviting in? As I thought once again about
- 17:04my father's story, I realized something that
- 17:07had been there all along. He never spent much
- 17:10time talking about the forest. He talked about
- 17:13the house. He never tried to make me afraid of
- 17:17what was outside. He wanted me to understand
- 17:20the value of what was inside. because people
- 17:25never protect what they do not value. And perhaps
- 17:30that brings us to the greatest question of all,
- 17:33what creates the atmosphere inside a Christian
- 17:36home? Is it love, communication, commitment,
- 17:41shared dreams, or is there something even deeper,
- 17:45something without which none of those things
- 17:47can truly survive? That is where our journey
- 17:52will continue. because there is one final window,
- 17:56one that explains every other window we have
- 17:59explored. I call it the window of spiritual atmosphere
- 18:04because a house without God is a house with every
- 18:09window open. In our next conversation, we will
- 18:13discover why the greatest protection for a marriage
- 18:16is not stronger walls or tighter locks or even
- 18:21better communication. It is the presence of God
- 18:24reigning, dwelling, and remaining at the center
- 18:28of the home. Because when Christ becomes the
- 18:32atmosphere of the house, everything changes.
- 18:36The words change. The relationships change. The
- 18:40decisions change. The priorities change. The
- 18:43peace returns. And even in the middle of the
- 18:46darkest forest, the house remains standing. Until
- 18:50next time. May the Lord bless your home, strengthen
- 18:54your marriage, guard your family, and remind
- 18:59you every day that the greatest treasure inside
- 19:02your house has never been the house itself. It
- 19:06has always been the presence of God. Thank you
- 19:11for joining me on Pomodra Podcast. Together in
- 19:14faith, together in Christ.
