- 0:06Speaker 1: All right, ruminators, welcome, final half hour of the show
- 0:10Speaker 1: for the day. It's a show fifty four to forty
- 0:12Speaker 1: three of The Morning Show with Preston scottis OAIAHM. Preston.
- 0:16Speaker 1: I am really geeked about this segment. If you've listen
- 0:20Speaker 1: to my show at all, you know I am a
- 0:22Speaker 1: habitual watcher of Alone and Mountain Men. I love the series.
- 0:28Speaker 1: I've watched it since its inception, and the new season
- 0:31Speaker 1: comes up tomorrow night eight o'clock Eastern, seven o'clock Central
- 0:36Speaker 1: on the History Channel. And joining and it's weird to
- 0:40Speaker 1: say cast but now part of the show. Chance and
- 0:45Speaker 1: soirea painter, and Chance Painter joins me right now, bright
- 0:49Speaker 1: and early in Alaska. Chance, how are you?
- 0:52Speaker 2: Hi?
- 0:53Speaker 3: Hi, I'm doing good. How you doing?
- 0:55Speaker 1: I'm terrific. I'm fascinated to know. How did you and
- 0:58Speaker 1: your wife your family to get connected to doing the show.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Honestly, So, we were living in a in a wall
- 1:08Speaker 3: tent on our property and we were running our Instagram
- 1:13Speaker 3: and stuff, and we just we had people like messaging
- 1:16Speaker 3: on Instagram about doing a TV show, and I don't know,
- 1:21Speaker 3: I always kind of didn't answer them or whatever at first,
- 1:24Speaker 3: and then like a few months later we were talking
- 1:27Speaker 3: and I honestly just kind of cold called the the
- 1:30Speaker 3: studio and just asked them if they were interested.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Really and yeah, I guess. And now did you know
- 1:41Speaker 1: about the show? I mean, how remote of a life
- 1:44Speaker 1: are you living over these last however many years were
- 1:47Speaker 1: you aware of Mountain Men the program?
- 1:51Speaker 3: Yeah? Before we we also like do brain Tan like
- 1:56Speaker 3: the tom Or guy. Yep, we would watch him brain
- 2:02Speaker 3: tan beavers and stuff, you know, and we would beaver's
- 2:06Speaker 3: are incredibly hard to brain tan, and so we're trying
- 2:09Speaker 3: to figure out how he was also getting them so
- 2:11Speaker 3: soft and right. And we also would like to watch
- 2:14Speaker 3: the Marty guy. We really like Marty two. Yeah, but yeah,
- 2:17Speaker 3: we we we weren't living like super super remote like
- 2:20Speaker 3: I guess your definition of remote is you know, subjective? Sure, like,
- 2:27Speaker 3: like how long does it take you to walk out?
- 2:29Speaker 3: I guess that would if it takes you more than
- 2:32Speaker 3: a couple of days to walk out, I would say
- 2:33Speaker 3: you're pretty remote.
- 2:35Speaker 1: But how many days it take you to walk out?
- 2:39Speaker 3: Only one? Yeah, you know, we're not like a fly
- 2:43Speaker 3: in only area or nothing. Chance.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Tell me about your background, Soreya's background, How did you
- 2:50Speaker 1: decide to adopt the lifestyle, because living in Alaska living,
- 2:56Speaker 1: even if it's remotely a one day walk, I mean,
- 3:00Speaker 1: that's not for everyone. How did this come your way?
- 3:02Speaker 1: Why did you go this way route?
- 3:06Speaker 3: Well, we we just wanted to raise our like kids
- 3:11Speaker 3: in like a more natural way and were I was
- 3:18Speaker 3: living in a wall tent and like burden sheep down
- 3:22Speaker 3: in like northern Washington, and my wife's also from that
- 3:26Speaker 3: general area, and I was living in the wal tent
- 3:31Speaker 3: and I just kind of lived in it for so
- 3:32Speaker 3: long that when kind of thought about like going back,
- 3:36Speaker 3: it just didn't really seem right, you know.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Just just thought it was something you wanted to do.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean yeah, Like it's just it's hard to
- 3:49Speaker 3: go from living in the woods in the forest like
- 3:52Speaker 3: full time and then like go back to living in
- 3:56Speaker 3: like like a city. Sure you know what I mean?
- 4:00Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I mean, well, I don't really know what
- 4:02Speaker 1: you mean, but I can I can understand it from
- 4:05Speaker 1: the perspective of watching others in this lifestyle over the years.
- 4:09Speaker 1: On the show Chance stand By, We're going to take
- 4:11Speaker 1: a real quick break here, we're coming back, got another segment.
- 4:15Speaker 1: I could spend a day with this guy, but I'm
- 4:18Speaker 1: going to ask him what it's been like spending his
- 4:20Speaker 1: days with a camera crew around he and his family.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Welcome to the m a d Radio Network, where we
- 4:27Speaker 2: challenge you to make a difference in your world in
- 4:31Speaker 2: a positive way, improving the lives of others. It's the
- 4:34Speaker 2: Morning Show with Preston Scott.
- 4:41Speaker 1: For any of you who are fans of the program
- 4:44Speaker 1: Mountain Men. Our guest Chance Painter mentioned Tom Orr this
- 4:48Speaker 1: is his last season. Tom's a legend on this show
- 4:53Speaker 1: and he's he certainly is a legend in the world
- 4:57Speaker 1: that he occupies trapping, and it's been fun watching him
- 5:02Speaker 1: pass along his skills to a young kid that that's
- 5:06Speaker 1: the son of a gentleman who's been kind of helping
- 5:09Speaker 1: him over the last few seasons of the show. But
- 5:12Speaker 1: with me, Chance Painter and he and his wife Sirea,
- 5:15Speaker 1: their three children are in this season of Mountain Men.
- 5:18Speaker 1: What was it like to share your life with not
- 5:22Speaker 1: just the video crew, but realizing chance that you're gonna
- 5:25Speaker 1: be sharing your life with millions of people, you know.
- 5:29Speaker 3: It was honestly kind of like the I think our boys.
- 5:33Speaker 3: They definitely liked the camera guys at first, like they
- 5:37Speaker 3: have like drones and they think they're airplanes and they
- 5:39Speaker 3: you know, they love airplanes. Sure, but it was definitely
- 5:44Speaker 3: kind of strange having the camera guys. But the realization
- 5:48Speaker 3: of having people watch us, I think is it doesn't
- 5:53Speaker 3: really quite feel like real yet. Like earlier in the
- 5:57Speaker 3: winter when we were like running trap line and it
- 6:01Speaker 3: just kind of felt like I was just hanging out
- 6:03Speaker 3: with my camera guys, right, It just yeah, it seemed
- 6:07Speaker 3: like more they were like just like my friends rather
- 6:10Speaker 3: than making a TV show.
- 6:11Speaker 1: You know, Uh huh, Well you mentioned your friends, what
- 6:14Speaker 1: are friends and family? What's the reaction to the news
- 6:18Speaker 1: that you're going to be on the show, and then
- 6:21Speaker 1: anything that you've shared with them along the way, what's
- 6:23Speaker 1: been their reaction.
- 6:24Speaker 2: To it all.
- 6:27Speaker 3: I think basically everybody was pretty surprised that I was
- 6:32Speaker 3: going to be on TV. I'm considering I'm basically just
- 6:35Speaker 3: like a simple bush trapper guy as of right now.
- 6:39Speaker 3: My sister is the one that wanted to be on
- 6:43Speaker 3: TV and whatnot, and yeah, and I'm just.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Yeah, so is your sister going to join you next season?
- 6:53Speaker 1: Is she gonna move in?
- 6:56Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah, she's gonna come up here and can't hide
- 6:58Speaker 3: with us.
- 6:59Speaker 1: No she's ever tell tell me this, are you going
- 7:03Speaker 1: to Are you able to watch the show when it
- 7:05Speaker 1: premieres tomorrow night? Have they shown you the series yet?
- 7:08Speaker 1: I mean, how does that work now that you've done
- 7:10Speaker 1: this the first season with you in it?
- 7:15Speaker 3: So technically like we don't have a TV or like
- 7:20Speaker 3: cable or anything. We don't have like a History Channel subscription, right,
- 7:26Speaker 3: I guess technically there's no way for me to watch it.
- 7:29Speaker 3: But I'm sure there's a way the producer could send
- 7:34Speaker 3: me like a link or something, yeah, or some some
- 7:38Speaker 3: some form of way. But I'm honestly, I'm probably going
- 7:41Speaker 3: to be like moose hunting or something.
- 7:44Speaker 1: So it's not it's not that big a deal. Now
- 7:47Speaker 1: that you've done this the season, they're producing the show
- 7:51Speaker 1: and it's going to do whatever it's going to do,
- 7:53Speaker 1: You're you're still busy doing what you have to do
- 7:56Speaker 1: literally daily to survive.
- 7:59Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, yeah, there's yeah, I got a I
- 8:02Speaker 3: got a whole got a whole litany of chores and
- 8:06Speaker 3: things I got to get done before the freeze up.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Tell me this was the experience such that you you
- 8:14Speaker 1: want you're willing to do this series again? Was there
- 8:16Speaker 1: an agreement to do X number of years or is
- 8:19Speaker 1: it season by season? What does it look like for
- 8:22Speaker 1: you next year?
- 8:25Speaker 3: It's season by season that we are contracted to do,
- 8:29Speaker 3: and I would I would definitely do it again for sure.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Okay, so you you got enough out of it in
- 8:36Speaker 1: terms of it wasn't so intrusive that that you couldn't
- 8:41Speaker 1: you know, enjoy the process?
- 8:45Speaker 2: Well?
- 8:47Speaker 3: No, yeah, I thought it was fun. Like it's definitely
- 8:50Speaker 3: a good job. I'd rather be doing that than a
- 8:54Speaker 3: lot of things, that's for sure.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Tell me this, I've always wondered, chance, where does the
- 8:59Speaker 1: crew stay when they're doing all of this filming day
- 9:02Speaker 1: after day, week after week? Are they pinching tents somewhere?
- 9:06Speaker 1: Are they flying in on helicopter? Where is the crew?
- 9:12Speaker 3: Well, it entirely depends on where the shoots are, like
- 9:16Speaker 3: the location that they need to be, But yeah, they
- 9:19Speaker 3: stay in like a wall tint or like an arctic
- 9:21Speaker 3: oven tent or something like that.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Okay, well I appreciate it.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Yeah, go ahead, I'll just say if they needed the
- 9:30Speaker 3: helicopter in, I'm sure that they could if they needed to.
- 9:34Speaker 3: But yeah, that's yeah, it's entirely specific. Usually they just
- 9:38Speaker 3: write snow goes and or something. Well.
- 9:41Speaker 1: I appreciate you making time for us this morning, and
- 9:45Speaker 1: I wish you and Soreya and the kids nothing but
- 9:47Speaker 1: the best. And I look forward to seeing you tomorrow
- 9:49Speaker 1: night on the two. Buddy.
- 9:51Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, thank you very much, man.
- 9:54Speaker 1: I appreciate it. You'd be well.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:56Speaker 1: YouTube Chance Painter with us this morning. Cannot wait. Mountain Men,
- 10:05Speaker 1: the Legend Tom Moore. He mentioned Marty. Marty's a pilot.
- 10:09Speaker 1: I love Marty as well because of that. He's been
- 10:12Speaker 1: teaching his daughter. He left the series for a couple
- 10:15Speaker 1: of years, came back and yeah, he's the skill sets
- 10:22Speaker 1: that people have to develop to do this is next
- 10:26Speaker 1: level because you have to do it or else you
- 10:29Speaker 1: don't survive. So you just either do it or you
- 10:33Speaker 1: pack up and go back to that city that he
- 10:35Speaker 1: said he can't even conceive of living in. Forty eight
- 10:38Speaker 1: minutes past the hour, Chance Painter from Mountain Men here
- 10:41Speaker 1: on The Morning Show with Preston Scott
