- 0:05All righty, we are ready to get started here.
- 0:07Welcome to our weekly Bible study where we discuss God's
- 0:11Word and we let it transform our lives.
- 0:13Tonight we are going to talk in the out of the put the Hebrew
- 0:20Hebrews chapter 13 and discuss what what is in there.
- 0:26As always, if anyone's listening on any of those social media
- 0:30platforms or this platform, if you didn't want to type a
- 0:32question or a comment in the chat, we're always happy to
- 0:35receive feedback that way. You can see our Facebook and
- 0:41YouTube links to past segments as well as our podcast, that
- 0:46kind of stuff on our website, which is simply
- 0:48christministries.com. You Google that and find all
- 0:52those links there. But anyway, for the next hour,
- 0:55the five of us are going to go through Hebrews chapter 13.
- 0:59Starting at verse 14 is where we're going to start and we'll
- 1:04get get going into there. I'll open with a word of prayer.
- 1:09God, thank you for this day. Thank you for these brothers
- 1:13that have availed themselves to your word.
- 1:16God, we just thank you for your grace and your mercy.
- 1:19Thank you for your Son Jesus, thank you for the plan of
- 1:22salvation that you created before the foundation of the
- 1:25earth. And God, I just play right that
- 1:28as we look at your word that we could speak clearly and with
- 1:34clarity and accuracy, that we could represent your name well.
- 1:38And God, I just pray that you would give the listeners open
- 1:42ears, open hearts, that we could hear and learn of you.
- 1:47Does you have great truth? You are perfect and righteous in
- 1:50every way and we love you. We look forward to reading about
- 1:56you and learning more of you that so God, I just pray that
- 1:59you would bless tonight's study in Jesus name, Amen.
- 2:02All. Right, verse 14 says for here we
- 2:07have no continuing city, but we seek one to come.
- 2:10And we had been talking, of course, here, chapter 13, a
- 2:17recap kind of of the book of Hebrews and most recently here
- 2:22talking about not to be carried away with diverse and strange
- 2:26doctrines. We talked about that last week
- 2:29and that we should have our hearts established with grace
- 2:34and things like that. Really good, really good study.
- 2:36And so here he is. He starts in with just for here
- 2:41we have no continuing city, but seek one to come.
- 2:44I find it interesting and I'll toss it over to you Aaron for
- 2:46your thoughts. But here he says in verse we
- 2:49have continuing city. Just a little bit ago in chapter
- 2:5212 verse 22, he says but ye are come unto Mount Zion and unto
- 2:58the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem.
- 3:02Yeah, I just find it interesting that I don't I don't it doesn't
- 3:06contradict each other all but he says for we have no continuing
- 3:10city, but he's talking about this earthly Kingdom versus
- 3:15that's final. Anyway, go ahead here with your
- 3:20thoughts on verse. I actually kind of want to back
- 3:25up just a little just because I think the I think it's relevant.
- 3:30If you think about what he said in verse 13, He said to let us
- 3:33let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp bearing his
- 3:40reproach. And and based on that and verse
- 3:4414 that you just read, I think that this he is getting back to
- 3:48what kind of what he's been doing all along, because you
- 3:56don't you see him encouraging them that we have a sacrifice
- 4:01that's complete. In other words, he's always
- 4:03encouraged him not right. Don't go back to the temple.
- 4:06Don't go back and do those sacrifices.
- 4:08Don't depend on the priest. Don't do all those things.
- 4:11So I. Think again.
- 4:14I'll be glad to hear what you all think about this.
- 4:16But I think when he says let us go forth therefore unto him
- 4:20without the camp burying his reproach, I think he's kind of
- 4:23referring to the reproach that's going to come from stepping back
- 4:27from that system. They've been in, like they, you
- 4:29know, we've talked about it all along.
- 4:30They've been persecuted. They've been, you know, maybe
- 4:34exiled. They've been.
- 4:36You know. All these things have come upon
- 4:38him from from going after Christ and away from the temple.
- 4:44So I think when he says let's go to him, barring his reproaches,
- 4:48don't be afraid to step outside of that outside of that old
- 4:52system. And then he goes on to say in
- 4:55verse 14 for we have here for we for here have we no continuing
- 5:01city, but we seek one to come. And I think I maybe said this
- 5:04last week, but I really do, I think he's pointing them towards
- 5:08this new Jerusalem, this, this city.
- 5:12Because if you're going to, if you're going to take somebody,
- 5:16spend all their lifetime, have great confidence in the temple
- 5:21and things that was at Jerusalem, and you're going to
- 5:24direct them away from that. One of the things you're going
- 5:26to have to say to them is, is listen, this is not the real
- 5:29one, right? He's been saying that all along.
- 5:31This is not the real one. This is not the real place that
- 5:33the blood that matters was sacrificed.
- 5:36It wasn't in the one made from hands.
- 5:38So I think he is directing their attention away from that place
- 5:43to one that's going to continue because contrast the two
- 5:47Jerusalem and the temple at that time is getting ready to be
- 5:51wiped out in 70 AD. The one that we're looking for,
- 5:55in fact, the one that Abraham back in Chapter 11, he said he
- 5:59looked for a city which built, whose builder and maker was God.
- 6:03You know, like he's looking for something that will last.
- 6:07And that's the two, that's the way I would kind of compare
- 6:09those two things is that city is not going to continue.
- 6:13But the one we're looking for, the 1 Abraham was looking for,
- 6:17actually won't be just, it will continue, right?
- 6:20I mean, I know continue is not exactly synonymous with
- 6:24everlasting, but in a sense, that's what he's saying, right?
- 6:27He's saying this city is not going to last, but that one
- 6:32actually will. Like that one is one that will
- 6:35last, that's actually a real place that will last, that won't
- 6:39be sacked by the Romans, that won't be destroyed.
- 6:42That's a real continuing city, one that continued on.
- 6:47And I just like that. So I think he is kind of, I
- 6:50think it's very specific to these people pointing them away
- 6:53from that literally like we saw all along this book, away from
- 6:58that system, away from that actual temple to the real 1 to a
- 7:01real city that we'll continue. Yeah, yeah, I agree.
- 7:06That's that's good. And also verse 27 in chapter 12
- 7:11says, and this word yet once more signify the removing of
- 7:14those things that are shaken as of things that are made, that
- 7:17those things which cannot be shaken may remain.
- 7:21And this, the city that we're looking for, is going to be one
- 7:23of those things that that's going to remain as being iduous,
- 7:27you know, a good, good description of what could
- 7:29remain. Andrew.
- 7:31Yeah, I think it is also a good word of encouragement if you're
- 7:36having a really hard time. The same way we we would say for
- 7:41someone that lost everything they've worked for here, let's
- 7:44say they built of company or a business or a family or whatever
- 7:49and disaster strikes and we lose everything.
- 7:52What's the first thing we always say?
- 7:54Well, I guess this is not our home.
- 7:58I guess we can't, we're not going to take it with us.
- 8:01So all these guys that are being persecuted, maybe they can't go
- 8:05to town anymore. They'll be seen and they'll be
- 8:08locked up or their life's a disaster because of the faith
- 8:13that they're following. They can't.
- 8:16It was alive here. It's so hard that they're drawn
- 8:19back to, they're drawn to go back to where they have peace
- 8:24with the guys ruling over them. And he's like, look, it's not
- 8:31worth it. This city will not continue.
- 8:34It matters. It matters that you're going to
- 8:36be on good terms with the city you're going to.
- 8:39That won't be shaken. That's good.
- 8:43That would. Yeah, I think it like looked up
- 8:48when Hebrews was written and it was approximately 60 to 67 AD.
- 8:54So the temple would not have been destroyed yet at this point
- 8:59when he was writing this book, according to Google, right.
- 9:04Anyway, So he's just telling them, look, you know, maybe
- 9:08they're maybe they were thinking, you know, they're
- 9:10thinking of going back to the law.
- 9:12And so obviously the temple involves the law, you know is in
- 9:17law with the law. And so he's just telling them,
- 9:21look, there's going to be a city to come that is going to be
- 9:26continuing and this city right now that you guys are putting a
- 9:31lot of stock in because think about it if.
- 9:34You're. Going to Jerusalem to worship
- 9:37and to sacrifice. And you were used to doing that
- 9:40your whole life. And now all of a sudden Christ
- 9:44died on the cross and he is the the perfect lamb.
- 9:48He is the the perfect high priest.
- 9:50So we have read about and now all of a sudden you don't need
- 9:55to, you know, go and sacrifice anymore.
- 9:58But this temple is still there. And they're like, this thing is
- 10:02probably going to just stay here, right?
- 10:04I mean, that's what we think. We think when, when there's
- 10:07something, a city or a house or whatever property, we think it's
- 10:11going to stay here forever. But in all reality, it's not
- 10:15because it's not continuing. Everything on this earth is not
- 10:19continuing. So I think it's important that
- 10:22that we keep that in mind as well, you know, for us.
- 10:25Today, yeah, I guess I would just kind of like to put the
- 10:33challenge out there to myself and anyone else listening.
- 10:37The Hebrews had this truth given to them and they it was a
- 10:40perspective that they were supposed to have on life.
- 10:44And it's easy to say these things, like Andrew said, what
- 10:46something terrible happens, then we could say, well, I guess we
- 10:49we're not living for this world. This world is not our home.
- 10:51And that kind of mentality, it often strikes us when tragedy
- 10:56hits. What do you live this way
- 10:59day-to-day? Are.
- 11:01Are you living as if you do have a continuing city here?
- 11:05Are you putting your stock in the things that are on this
- 11:08world? Are you like, I don't want to
- 11:11ZAP anybody's motivation to build a business, to work hard,
- 11:15to have a good family, to build a beautiful home or anything
- 11:18like that. Those are all good and valuable
- 11:21things. If you recognize that it is not
- 11:24the thing that we're looking for.
- 11:26It is not continuing. It is something that you build
- 11:29here to lead people to the continuing city.
- 11:32It is work that you do temporarily that might beautify
- 11:36the gospel in some way that will point people to the city that we
- 11:41do actually seek in Second Corinthians, very similar
- 11:44context. In chapter 4, verse 17 and 18,
- 11:47the apostle Paul says for our light affliction, and their
- 11:51affliction was not light by my estimation, but he says for our
- 11:54light affliction, which is. But for a moment it really is
- 11:58like some people might think the mine is not for a moment.
- 12:00Mine's been going on for 20 years and the grand scheme of
- 12:03things, it is a very small little moment.
- 12:05I remember one time my mind just opened up to the vastness of
- 12:09eternity when a man was telling a children's Bible story.
- 12:13He was telling the story of Jonah and he's, he had Jonah get
- 12:18a command from God. And then Jonah decides to run
- 12:22away from God. And so he had pictured this
- 12:25thing with the children. He said, OK, now imagine the
- 12:28earth from God's perspectives, you know, and then here's the
- 12:31next planet, Here's the next planet, here's the solar system.
- 12:34And you know, God can see all this stuff from afar or from
- 12:37close, however he wants to see it.
- 12:39And now Jonah decides to run away, and you can see Jonah go.
- 12:45See that? Like he didn't even move.
- 12:47Like that they the work that we're doing here is just so
- 12:51tiny. Even if we're doing something
- 12:54for 20 years. It's like Jonah trying to run
- 12:56from God. It's really in the vastness of
- 12:58eternity. It will seem like just a little
- 13:00blip on the radar, he said. Our light affliction, which is
- 13:03but for a moment worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal
- 13:09weight of glory, while we look not at the things which are
- 13:13seen, but at the things which are are not seen.
- 13:16For the things which are seen are temporal, but the things
- 13:19which are not seen are eternal. And so there is nothing that we
- 13:24build on this earth that will last.
- 13:28It will hopefully can use the temporal things to win souls, to
- 13:33bring people in, to build a beautiful lineage on this earth,
- 13:37but ultimately it's only the things that are not seen that
- 13:40will actually last for eternity. Yeah, that's that's real good.
- 13:47But I got a question. So would you give that type of
- 13:52perspective to somebody is giving up on their marriage?
- 14:00Like a lot of times when people are giving up on their marriage
- 14:04because they think it's so difficult.
- 14:06And the main word that you hear is I just can't take it anymore.
- 14:11I just can't do it anymore. I cannot do it anymore.
- 14:14And I understand that That's your most personal, personal
- 14:19experience with your spouse. You know, that's very, very spy
- 14:23out the weakest point for a man to get attacked, like the, you
- 14:28know, most powerful point, you know, to just destroy a man, it
- 14:32really hurts. But I still think we need to
- 14:35hear the fact that even our marriage is not a continuing
- 14:38project. There's no marriage or giving in
- 14:41marriage in the next city we're going to.
- 14:43So that's also just put for a moment, right?
- 14:47And it should motivate us to fix it, I mean, because we're here
- 14:53only for a moment. But what do you guys think about
- 14:55that? Is that kind of stretch?
- 14:59Yeah, I I think that's, that's very true.
- 15:02I know Dave Ramsey. I quote him quite.
- 15:05A bit, but. He, he says that disregarding
- 15:08financial, but it would apply to anything.
- 15:10He says that as long as you can see your way through something,
- 15:14you can withstand almost anything.
- 15:16And, and I think that's true. And especially regarding
- 15:20eternity, like if we realize that whatever it is that we're
- 15:25facing is, is temporary, knowing that there is eternity, there is
- 15:30whatever is on the other side, that is always going to be
- 15:34something that we can latch on to as a encouragement.
- 15:39I guess you would say. I, I mean, I don't know if
- 15:41that's exactly the right word, but it is definitely.
- 15:44I mean, you've all heard about the story where the, the they
- 15:47had a if I got a bug and 1/2 full of water, they put a mouse
- 15:51in and they let it swim to it just couldn't swim anymore and
- 15:56it was going to drown. And then they, they picked it
- 15:58up, let it rest for an hour, then they put it back in.
- 16:01And the second time they put that mouse in the water, it swam
- 16:05for twice as long as it did the first time.
- 16:08And the study goes that this what they say is that that mouse
- 16:12had hope of being rescued the first time.
- 16:13The second the first time she gave up.
- 16:16The second time she had hope of being rescued.
- 16:18So she just kept going to go to go.
- 16:21You know, I think that's irrelevant discussion here.
- 16:23But isn't that a little bit what we're talking about that I mean
- 16:26that's that kind of answer your what you're saying, right?
- 16:30I would like to think that there is something very eternal about
- 16:34our marriages. If our spouse is unsaved, then
- 16:39obviously that that relationship will be severed.
- 16:42And what that exactly looks like, I don't know.
- 16:45But The thing is, my my marriage in one sense is not seen.
- 16:49It is one of those eternal things.
- 16:51It's a bond that's being built that can stand the test of time
- 16:56and can also be felt for years after someone has passed away.
- 17:00And there's deep abiding love and passion and tenderness that
- 17:04continues on. And so Lovejoy, peace, those
- 17:08things are all eternal. So if you're investing in and
- 17:11working hard out of marriage, it is working at an eternal thing,
- 17:15I would say. But I do understand what you're
- 17:17saying when someone is in a marriage that just doesn't seem
- 17:20to be going anywhere. It's a constant battle and
- 17:22you're not getting your needs met and therefore you become
- 17:26more introspective and more self-centered and then you're
- 17:28not meeting their needs and it's just this vicious cycle.
- 17:31I can, I can imagine that'd be one of the worst things to be
- 17:34locked into. But most people, if they can
- 17:37just decide to commit to it, especially if both parties can
- 17:41commit to it, you can make it good again.
- 17:43Like just give it a few years, you can make it good again.
- 17:48That would be terrible news if because we've, me and my wife
- 17:52have talked about, you know, when it's good, you hope it
- 17:55continues, right? There's some continuance in
- 17:58eternity where at least we're still doing stuff together or
- 18:01something. But Can you imagine as you were
- 18:03married to a real witch, you know, knowing that an eternity
- 18:08going to be bad? Or maybe, maybe that would cause
- 18:12us to figure it out now. Well, I mean that that whole
- 18:19idea actually that this, you know, to get back into the
- 18:22context here, this this verse is meant as an encouragement, isn't
- 18:26it? If you like that he's saying
- 18:29here that we have no continuous sitting.
- 18:31Like in other words, like like you said, Aaron to back up to
- 18:35verse 13, he's talking about very, very, very reproach, you
- 18:41know, being be suffering for the name of Jesus, right?
- 18:44And and he so this verse 14, I think is as it encourage me,
- 18:48like realizing that this is not the end of everything here.
- 18:51You know, you got a long thing on the other side of this short
- 18:56fairing of the cross or whatever you want to call it.
- 18:59Yeah, I I guess I don't know my thought on it to be similar to
- 19:04Dan in the sense that I would just say it this way is if I'm
- 19:10not denying the verse that said that Christ said you all are
- 19:14miss thinking of the resurrection when they asked him
- 19:17that question about the woman that had the seven different
- 19:20brothers. I'm not denying that.
- 19:22I'm just saying we I don't believe we get amnesia when we.
- 19:28Are. You know, when we go into
- 19:30eternity, I don't think so. I think that if you really do
- 19:33have a, you know, a marriage that is good and all that, I
- 19:37don't think you're going to forget that.
- 19:39And Christ used it as the only thing that he compared Christ
- 19:44and his bride to, you know, like the church and Christ to.
- 19:48But I would say this to Andrew's point is we'd people give up on
- 19:55things because they don't have the perspective that that it is.
- 20:03In other words, when somebody says I can't stand this anymore,
- 20:07they're, you know, like they are, they're actually fooling
- 20:12themselves. You know what I mean?
- 20:13They're they're, they're looking at it as a as.
- 20:18I I don't know, they're, they're just, they have the wrong
- 20:20perspective on it when they say that.
- 20:22I think, I think they have the wrong perspective on it when
- 20:26they say I can't stand this anymore.
- 20:28But I don't know. This ain't really a marriage
- 20:30talk. I guess we can go.
- 20:31Down that. Way down to the wrong.
- 20:33How much you're thinking it could bring hope to people that
- 20:36are struggling even in that area?
- 20:38Yeah, yeah. You look at sorry, no, go ahead.
- 20:44I was just going to say kind of like Andrew was saying, that the
- 20:46Hebrews then were suffering through something terrible,
- 20:49persecution, difficulty, and seeing that they were here not
- 20:53for now but for that continuing city, help them through their
- 20:56difficulties then through persecution and opposition and
- 21:00all that. So it should have the same
- 21:02effect for somebody who is suffering through a marriage.
- 21:04They should be able to continue. Yeah, yeah.
- 21:10Yeah. And I, I was just going to say,
- 21:11I think if someone is saying that I can't take this anymore,
- 21:15that maybe they should be thinking about what could I do
- 21:19to make this better myself, right?
- 21:21Because you can't change the other person, but you can change
- 21:24yourself. But but yeah, it you have to, we
- 21:27have to keep a Kingdom eternal view on everything.
- 21:33And I think marriage is impeded to that.
- 21:35Yep. And from my comment, oh, sorry,
- 21:37no, go ahead. And from my comment about if
- 21:41you're stuck in a bad one, if you're stuck in a bad marriage
- 21:43and somehow we're still going to be connected in heaven, which I
- 21:46strongly believe we probably will be, or at least definitely
- 21:49know people have gone there and they've seen their family there.
- 21:52So yeah, certainly there's going to be, I think any issue is
- 21:57going to be resolved. So if you're in a bad marriage,
- 22:00there's hope. That's right.
- 22:05Even if you're stuck with her in eternity, so.
- 22:09Super. All right.
- 22:10Like you said, this is not a. Marriage.
- 22:11Exactly. That's good and it's it's kind
- 22:14of relevant in the in the idea of you know about having a
- 22:17continuing city here but verse 15 by him.
- 22:22Therefore, let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God
- 22:25continually. That is the fruit of our lips
- 22:28giving thanks to his name, Aaron.
- 22:31You can go ahead. I, I find it.
- 22:33I was, I was kind of reading this earlier and I wasn't sure
- 22:38what was giving thanks to his name, our lips or the fruit of
- 22:41our lips. I think there's a difference
- 22:44there. But anyway, go ahead there as
- 22:45your thoughts. I guess I'll actually will
- 22:49almost tied in with what we were just saying, not necessarily
- 22:54just trying to keep up the marriage topic, but but on the
- 23:01on the side of perspective, like 14 had to do with perspective,
- 23:07right. In other words, it's what is my
- 23:09perspective? Am I looking and Dan brought
- 23:12this out really well. Am I living with the perspective
- 23:17of only these things that are going on here or do I have the
- 23:21eternal perspective here? And I think that this verse also
- 23:25would continue that thought because, you know, I know this
- 23:30is just been said and it's often said in like a cliche way, but
- 23:34really there is things to be thankful for regardless, right?
- 23:39Like I don't care what's going on.
- 23:42You can be thankful to God for something continually and not
- 23:48there may be nothing left in your mind but that Christ died
- 23:53for you. You know what I mean?
- 23:54Like you may feel like that there's nothing in this physical
- 23:58your present circumstances to be thankful for, but you're still
- 24:04you should be still thankful for Christ coming and stepping in
- 24:08your place. So I think when he says by him,
- 24:10therefore, let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God
- 24:13continually. I think it is AI really do think
- 24:18it is in reference to a continual thankfulness, you
- 24:23know, to God like like this, like the city would continue.
- 24:27I think the thankfulness should continue regardless of the
- 24:30circumstance, regardless what's going on.
- 24:33But I don't know like I said that that just again, I think
- 24:38this is not just thrown in here out of left field.
- 24:41If you're looking at somebody that is being persecuted,
- 24:46somebody that is suffering, somebody that is is going
- 24:49through a lot, he is reminding them to continue to be thankful
- 24:54in in all things, right. I mean, to continue to be
- 24:56thankful to God, giving him praise and Thanksgiving
- 25:01regardless of how bad you think your circumstance is.
- 25:05Yeah. That's right, Andrew.
- 25:08Yeah, he says by him. Therefore, let us offer the
- 25:12sacrifice of praise based on what he's been saying.
- 25:16And when you when you see that he took our sins and he doesn't
- 25:23remember many more and we have no more conscience of sin or
- 25:25shouldn't have any. If we understand the Gospel, we
- 25:28shouldn't have any more conscience of sin has perfected
- 25:32us forever. That's a perspective and
- 25:37understanding that our only response is with words.
- 25:41It's not now that we come with a lamb.
- 25:43It's not now our response is not with bring the sacrifice of
- 25:46fruit or vegetables or a dove. The sacrifice that he's well
- 25:51pleased with now is our thanks, our appreciate for the offering,
- 25:55what he has gifted us with and our lips praising him,
- 26:00acknowledging what he has done. Even in the Old Testament, a lot
- 26:04of times when he did powerful things through the children of
- 26:08Israel and so that the nations would recognize who he was and
- 26:15like they'll know his name. He wanted everyone, every
- 26:18nation, even every heathen nation to know his name and to
- 26:21know that who was behind that glorious slaughter of wicked
- 26:26people. He wanted, he wanted the credit
- 26:29for all that he he, it was, it was me.
- 26:32It was a great I am. It was the Alpha and Omega.
- 26:35It was it was the King of kings. It was the Lord of Lord, so that
- 26:38they may know and fear him. And so now this God gave himself
- 26:45for us and made US1 with him outside of us bringing our own
- 26:51sacrifice. He did it while we were
- 26:54spitting, while we were not bringing the sacrifice, while we
- 26:57were angry. He died for us.
- 27:00And the only response that that response that he calls sacrifice
- 27:07and worship is giving thanks for what he's done.
- 27:10That's my opinion, is that counting up the sum of all that
- 27:17he has accomplished through the cross and the resurrection and
- 27:20you go, you know what, that covers it.
- 27:22Thank you, Jesus, we give you all the glory, all the praise
- 27:26for anything good that's within us.
- 27:28Like Paul said, when he looks within, when he looks inside, he
- 27:31finds no good thing. So he says to set our affections
- 27:35on things above which that worship God is saying, yeah,
- 27:40see, they get it. They're worshipping me because I
- 27:45am their deliverer and no one else.
- 27:49OK, that's good. Yep, Melvin.
- 27:52Yeah, I think, see, it seems like he's been pointing them to
- 27:56Christ right then showing them how Jesus is much more
- 28:00sufficient and much better than than these earthly priests and
- 28:05and earthly sacrifices. So I think when we realized and
- 28:09we understand fully what Christ has done for us and the
- 28:14sacrifice that he has given for us and the perfect sacrifice
- 28:18that he has given for us. And then when we praise God for
- 28:23that, then out of our lips comes fruit, right That that I think
- 28:30you Lee and you kind of I didn't notice that before, but that's
- 28:34what came to my mind when you said that ask that question.
- 28:36Then we're praising God for what Christ has done for us.
- 28:41Then that is the fruit that comes out of our lips that that,
- 28:44that praise that's coming out. And so that's all I have to say
- 28:50about that. That's that's awesome.
- 28:59You're muted. Give me.
- 29:03OK, go ahead. There we go.
- 29:07Sorry. I was sipping tea.
- 29:08I didn't want you guys to hear it.
- 29:12It seems like the the Hebrew people, and I don't think it was
- 29:16exclusively to he Hebrews. I think a lot of religious
- 29:19people really feel the need to offer some kind of sacrifice.
- 29:23They want to rectify bad behavior.
- 29:25They want to feel closer to God through some form of self
- 29:29deprecation, some kind of beating oneself up or
- 29:33rededication of some religious activity.
- 29:36They just really want to offer something to God, like let me
- 29:38offer something to God. And these Hebrews were on the
- 29:41verge of going back to offering sacrifices in the temple.
- 29:45And now the apostle or the author here is giving them a
- 29:48perfect opportunity. You guys want to offer
- 29:50sacrifices. This is what you can offer.
- 29:52Here is the way to start. And I, you know, sometimes when
- 29:55you first become a Christian, you're willing to give up
- 29:57anything like I would give my body to be burned.
- 30:00I'm ready to go to the stake. Let me let me die for you, Lord,
- 30:03I want to do anything for you. And it's almost like God is
- 30:05saying, well, how about you prove that to me simply just by
- 30:09being thankful. Let your heart be so filled with
- 30:12what God has done for you that it comes off of your tongue
- 30:15easily. You know what's in the heart
- 30:17will come out and it if you have a heart of gratitude and
- 30:20gratefulness for what God has done and you're living in faith
- 30:24of what Christ has done, as Andrew already pointed out, the
- 30:27the name of the Lord should come easily to your tongue.
- 30:29Your Thanksgiving, your prayers should be 90% Thanksgiving.
- 30:33Perhaps, you know, I'm just throwing a number out there, but
- 30:36thankfulness and praise should just be continually coming out
- 30:39of your lips because it's what else, what other response could
- 30:43there be? So if you're willing to give up
- 30:46your body to be burned, you know, if you're not living in a
- 30:48heart of gratitude, if you're not content with such things as
- 30:52you have, if you're not joyful and thankful in the midst of
- 30:56difficulty and trial and circumstances, if you can't look
- 30:59to what Jesus has done, like Aaron said, and be thankful for
- 31:02that, at least then when the difficulty comes, like the real
- 31:06difficulty comes, you're not going to be willing to offer
- 31:09yourself as a sacrifice. It it only comes out of the
- 31:12genuine thankful gratitude and continual sacrifice of a heart
- 31:17and lips that give praise to God.
- 31:19And I think that we can do this by ourselves every morning, give
- 31:22thanks to God every time we pray with our family, we can lead
- 31:26with example by giving thanks to God.
- 31:28And obviously, I think we should gather with the Saints very
- 31:31routinely and corporately give thanks to God through praise,
- 31:35through singing, through sacraments, you know, taking the
- 31:38Lord's Supper and, and remembering what he's done and
- 31:40constantly, continually offering up that sacrifice.
- 31:44So you want to sacrifice? You want a sacrificial system.
- 31:47We still have one. It's just not blood.
- 31:49The blood has been shed. That work has been done.
- 31:51Now we can we have the freedom to continually OfferUp a
- 31:55sacrifice that is acceptable to God with our lips.
- 32:01Yeah, that's good. I, I was drawn to 1st
- 32:04Corinthians 13 one where it says though I speak with the tongues
- 32:07of men and of angels and have not charity, I have become as a
- 32:10sounding brass or a tickling symbol, you know, and I that's
- 32:13kind of what I, what I meant when I started there by saying
- 32:17the fruit of is it the fruit of our lips or what is it that's
- 32:20giving him praise? You know, I mean, you can say
- 32:22God, I'm thankful for, you know, the food that we have to eat
- 32:27today without actually even being it or whatever.
- 32:30It's just it's just something that you said.
- 32:32It's different when you when you are convinced that like marriage
- 32:40or whatever, to pick all that, since that was our subject.
- 32:43Like if you realize that it's the mercy of God that is, that
- 32:46is causing you guys to love each other and to thrive together and
- 32:50and be able to raise a family that with kids that love God.
- 32:54You know, when you say things like that because of what's in
- 32:58you, it's different than just somebody reciting the words God
- 33:02I love you or singing the word kind of thing.
- 33:07That we may be a little bit. Imagine what they were actually
- 33:09going through. It might have been a little bit
- 33:11like this. Hey, I just found out my oldest
- 33:13son, who was already struggling with his finances just got fired
- 33:17because they found out he's no longer sacrificed.
- 33:21I just found out that this friend, this family has to move
- 33:27because the place they're staying, they're getting kicked
- 33:29out because they found out they're no longer sacrificing.
- 33:34And then these people start talking about and whinings like
- 33:37man, this is horrible. And these and then when tragedy
- 33:42hits like it did here in this community, sometimes you just
- 33:45need someone like this, whoever wrote this to come and say, you
- 33:49know what? You need to look up right now.
- 33:52Right now, you need to get your thumb out of your mouth and give
- 34:00praise, give thanks for what you have, say the hard things.
- 34:04So you guys are whining. You're not looking at the big
- 34:09picture. Well, I just lost my a house.
- 34:11I just lost my job. Well, this is not a continuing
- 34:14city. Right.
- 34:16Yeah. Yeah, not easy, but right,
- 34:22right, Verse 16. But to do good and to
- 34:28communicate, forget not, for with such sacrifices God is well
- 34:33pleased. I think this is kind of a
- 34:35reiteration of the previous verse, written a little
- 34:39differently. Go ahead, Aaron.
- 34:42I actually think it's a building, if you will, because a
- 34:48building on the previous verse, because the first one was
- 34:55attitude. Like are you thankful?
- 34:57You know what I mean? Like first the verse 15 was
- 34:59attitude. Are you thankful?
- 35:01Do you really appreciate what God's done for you?
- 35:04And I think 16 is a good verse for all of us that know the
- 35:07gospel well because I hear it oftentimes it's almost we almost
- 35:15don't encourage people to do good because we don't want them
- 35:20to be trusted in their own works.
- 35:22But he just said don't forget to do good things.
- 35:26Don't forget to do good things you know don't to do good and to
- 35:31communicate, which just means I mean that actually the same word
- 35:35was translated contribution, fellowship, communion,
- 35:42communicate communication this distribution.
- 35:46So it is a thing that you would do together or do to someone
- 35:50else, he says, but to do good and to communicate forget not
- 35:54for with such sacrifices. God is well pleased.
- 35:57Like I understand I'm I have preached it hard.
- 36:02Don't trust in your works, but don't think that God don't
- 36:05notice when you do, right? You know what I mean?
- 36:07Like He is well pleased with right actions, with doing good.
- 36:12God is pleased with that. Like he, He does notice when you
- 36:16do things like that. In fact, I'll read you Romans 12
- 36:20in the Romans 12 and verse 1. He says, I beseech you
- 36:23therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, they you present
- 36:26your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which
- 36:32is your reasonable service like it's the reason it is the
- 36:36reasonable thing to do is to do right, he says, and be not
- 36:39conformed to this world. Be transformed by the renewing
- 36:42of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable
- 36:45and perfect will of God like. Be transformed in how you act
- 36:50and how you think so that you can prove no test tried out.
- 36:55What is that good and perfect and acceptable?
- 36:57Will of God. For I say through the gate grace
- 37:00given unto me to every man that is mine, you not to think of
- 37:03himself more highly than you ought to think, but to think
- 37:06soberly, according as as God hath dealt to every man the
- 37:10measure of faith. For we are, for we have many
- 37:15members and one body, and all members have not the same
- 37:18office. So we being many, are one body
- 37:21in Christ, and everyone members one of another, having them
- 37:25gifts differing according to the grace that is given unto us.
- 37:29Whether prophecy, let us prophecy according to the
- 37:32proportion of faith or ministry. Let's wait on our ministry.
- 37:36For he that teaches on teaching or he that exhorteth on
- 37:40exhortation, and he that giveth, let him do it simp in with
- 37:46simplicity. He that ruleth with diligence,
- 37:50he that showeth mercy with cheerfulness, right.
- 37:53Like that's all things to do. And and also let me read
- 37:57Philippians 4 and verse 14. He says this.
- 38:03Philippians 414 says notwithstanding, ye have well
- 38:06done that ye did communicate. Which is the.
- 38:10Same word that, that that used here, this communicate, he says
- 38:19you have well done that you did communicate with my afflictions.
- 38:23Now you Philippians know also that in the beginning of the
- 38:26gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church
- 38:29communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving.
- 38:34But ye only, that is, nobody was sending him money, nobody was
- 38:37sending him food. I was given Paul things to need
- 38:40except for them. For even in Thessalonica ye sent
- 38:44once and again unto my necessity, not because I desire
- 38:48a gift, but I desire fruit. That may abound to your account.
- 38:54But I have all and abound. I am full, having received of
- 38:59Aphroditus the things which were sent from you.
- 39:03Wasn't this and like what they sent Paul, was an odor of a
- 39:09sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, well pleasing to
- 39:14God. I mean, you said that was a you
- 39:18did something that God know it, like in the old days under Moses
- 39:24when they would burn something, burn some flesh and God said it
- 39:28was a sweet savour or they'd burn some incense.
- 39:30And God said, I noticed that, like I smelled it.
- 39:33It smelled good to me. He said, when you sent that to
- 39:36me, God recognized that. He took note of that and said
- 39:39that's a good smell. I appreciate that.
- 39:41Like I see what you did there. I appreciate that sacrifice that
- 39:45you made. So I don't know, like I said,
- 39:48it's yeah, don't trust in your works, but he just called it a
- 39:52sacrifice to do good. That's good, Andrew.
- 39:58Yeah, doing good. I don't know that you can
- 40:01understand the gospel properly and fully receive it in your
- 40:04heart and decide, you know what doing evil sounds like It
- 40:07evolved the right thing to do, right?
- 40:11There's a change your heart that almost works like gravity, where
- 40:14you love goodness, you love righteousness.
- 40:16Sin is disgusting. To the point where God says it's
- 40:19it's sending out something we would do is God forbid it's just
- 40:23something that that we need to know and to communicate better
- 40:29to not fall in the trap of good works.
- 40:32When you ask having some making us confident that we're saved
- 40:40and we do a good job in community communicating the
- 40:43gospel the way Paul did. Then I don't think we have to
- 40:49worry about people doing good in order to be saved.
- 40:52I think we can teach people that the fruit of a believer what
- 40:56that is and it's good, it's pure, it's righteous, it's love
- 40:59and righteous. But I was going to emphasize
- 41:01more on the word communicate. He says communicating is a
- 41:05sacrifice that God is well pleased.
- 41:08You know it is a sacrifice. It takes energy and time to go
- 41:12and communicate with somebody. It's easier to stay home and not
- 41:17do it. It's easier.
- 41:18You know, God also looks at it. It's a big deal to him.
- 41:22One of the fruits of the good things that Christians do is we
- 41:24visit the poor, we visit, we help the widows and we deal the
- 41:30sick and we or help the sick or whatever.
- 41:32And we but visit those that are in prison.
- 41:36Like that's communicating, right?
- 41:38And most marital councils would say communication is key in a
- 41:43marriage, right? And sometimes it's really hard
- 41:46to communicate. You don't feel like
- 41:48communicating, you're a little upset.
- 41:52I don't want to. So for him to say to do good and
- 41:54communicate makes is a sacrifice that God is well pleased.
- 41:58That really rings true to me. Yeah.
- 42:02OK, let's put energy work into to know that God is well
- 42:05pleased. Like that's God considers that a
- 42:07sacrifice for me to communicate, to get out of my cumber zone
- 42:12comfort zone and talk to a person that nobody else wants to
- 42:15talk to because he looks, he has weird tattoos and earrings.
- 42:20Do good and communicate. I like it.
- 42:24I need to hear it, yeah. Yeah, yeah, he's obviously still
- 42:29talking about sacrifices here. And you know, good works are OK
- 42:36if they're coming out of your. Out of your.
- 42:41Love of of Christ right and like it will automatically happen
- 42:48when works are not good is when someone is trying to to make you
- 42:53know have. Good works or do good works to.
- 42:56To be right with God or to maybe make themselves look better to
- 43:01God. So it's like you were saying,
- 43:04Aaron, we often times don't or shy away from works, but it's OK
- 43:09to have good works. And so he's just telling them,
- 43:13hey, look, it's to do good and to communicate.
- 43:18So he's talking about two different things here and I'm
- 43:20and you already pointed that out, but but he's just it's
- 43:24awesome that our life, not that we try to go and bring
- 43:32sacrifices to God, but but our life and we are understanding
- 43:37the goodness of Christ and what Jesus has done for us is his
- 43:41sacrifice to God. Yeah, there's a lot of good
- 43:47points already brought out. I'll try not to make this too
- 43:49long, but the word communicate is that same Greek word that's
- 43:52translated as fellowship and communion.
- 43:56It's interesting to me that we are in fellowship with his Son,
- 44:00the Lord Jesus. God communicated to us, not in
- 44:04words only, but he came down and He gave himself as a sacrifice
- 44:08for us and that was how he communicated with us.
- 44:10He had fellowship with us and we have fellowship with him.
- 44:13And so this word communicate has a lot more to do than just
- 44:17having conversation. It is like we've already been
- 44:19saying, it's a giving up of yourself for other people and
- 44:23putting yourself on the line when other people have needs in
- 44:27in the book of Peter, first Peter, I believe it as he says,
- 44:30not to use your hospitality grudgingly, right?
- 44:32To do it with joy and gratitude. And like Aaron already mentioned
- 44:36that if it comes from a heart of gratitude and thankfulness,
- 44:40you're offering praise to God continually with your lips.
- 44:44Now you can kind of put shoes on that and and extend that
- 44:48Thanksgiving to someone else with physical things.
- 44:52Paul talks about in the book of Galatians.
- 44:54He says in Galatians 66, let him that is taught the word
- 44:59communicate unto him that teaches in all good things.
- 45:03So here's one of the ways to understand that word.
- 45:06If you have a man who is preaching the gospel to you,
- 45:08teaching you the Bible regularly, Paul's instruction to
- 45:12the person listening is communicate to the teacher with
- 45:16good things mean have him over, give him a good steak.
- 45:19You know when you've shot a deer, take one of your roasts,
- 45:22bring it over to the preacher's place.
- 45:23You got an extra few 100 bucks. Tell your tell your preacher to
- 45:26go out on a little date night with his wife and communicate.
- 45:30Hit to him with all good things. You know this is this is kind of
- 45:33the way he's talking about. You're grateful for what you
- 45:36have, therefore you communicate that gratitude with your lips.
- 45:39To God and. With your hands to people around
- 45:42you and with your lips to people around you.
- 45:44So don't forget it. I think those are interesting
- 45:47words. Forget not.
- 45:49And then lastly, some of the Calvinists have this idea that
- 45:53even when you're saved, everything you do is tainted by
- 45:56sin. It's all evil, it's all wicked,
- 45:58it's all sinful. Woe is me, I'm undone.
- 46:00I'm always sinful. And and they use this as a way
- 46:03of appearing to always be very humble, but this kind of verse
- 46:07kind of flies in the face of all of that.
- 46:08Like you give thanks to God, He is well pleased you do good
- 46:13works. God is well pleased You
- 46:15communicate your money, your time, your energy, your words.
- 46:18I think God looks at that. And like Aaron pointed out, he's
- 46:21smelling that beautiful odor and he is well pleased with it.
- 46:24We don't need to worry about that.
- 46:26Yeah. Yeah.
- 46:28And and can I add to that just in first John Chapter 4, just to
- 46:33kind of point out that this is not like First John Chapter 4 is
- 46:37going to tell us that that is a like we're manifesting God's
- 46:43love to other people. I'll just read it first John
- 46:47four and verse 11 says, beloved, if God so loved us, we ought
- 46:52also to love one another. No man has seen God at any time.
- 46:56If we love one another, God dwelleth in US and his love is
- 47:01perfected in US. He goes on down to verse 20 and
- 47:04he says this. If a man say I love God and
- 47:08hateth his brother, he's a liar. For he that loveth not his
- 47:13brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not
- 47:19seen, right? I mean, both of those mentioned
- 47:21it like you are seeing these people, the people that you
- 47:27would communicate with are in your face, if you will.
- 47:30You are actually seeing them. You're actually interacting with
- 47:33them. Whereas God, I mean, think about
- 47:36we just read that verse a chapter or so ago.
- 47:39Forget not to entertain strangers because some of
- 47:42entertained angels unaware like your your your manifestation
- 47:47oftentimes of your love for God is made known in the way you
- 47:51would interact and communicate with the people around you,
- 47:54right? I mean, I think that's what
- 47:55these verses are saying. It is coming out in the way you
- 47:58interact with these people around you, you know, like that
- 48:02that is translated into the way you interact with these people
- 48:05around. And you can't make the claim
- 48:07that you love God and you always forget to communicate and do
- 48:11good. To other people.
- 48:13You know what I mean? Like, that's a false claim,
- 48:14according to John. You can't claim that you love
- 48:17God and never communicate and do good to the people around you.
- 48:21Yeah. Yeah, that's a lot of good stuff
- 48:25there. I thought.
- 48:27Well, Dan was talking and you, Aaron, you know, Charlie Kirk,
- 48:31he was convinced that if communication breaks down, we as
- 48:35a society will break down. That was kind of the root of his
- 48:38entire thing, wasn't it? I mean, if we don't, if we fail
- 48:42to hear each other and talk with each other and have open
- 48:45dialogue, we start to break down as a society.
- 48:48And you know, and so it is really important that we
- 48:51communicate and it's something that we gloss over.
- 48:53But if you think about it, this is what God is doing, what we're
- 48:56doing right now. He communicated to us about His
- 48:59great love for us. Matter of fact, you remember
- 49:03what the 1st 2 verses are of Hebrews where we started, you
- 49:06know, said God in summary time past time spoke to us, you know,
- 49:10but he has in these last days spoken unto us by his son.
- 49:14You alluded to that error, you know, so he was good and
- 49:17gracious and not just keeping this gift to himself.
- 49:20He communicated it to the entire race through, you know, various
- 49:24means, but lately by his son. And so, yeah, that's that's a
- 49:28lot of good stuff. And then as far as doing good, I
- 49:31really appreciate the points that you brought out about that
- 49:35Doing good is not a bad thing, right?
- 49:38I mean, you would expect, but we have tended to throw that behind
- 49:44us because of the way that we were encouraged to, you know, be
- 49:49a child of God by doing good works, you know, so, but I, I
- 49:53thought about it. Galatians 610 says as we
- 49:56therefore, as we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto
- 50:01all men, you know, and especially unto those that are
- 50:05of the household of faith. He says they're so.
- 50:08Yeah, that's that's good stuff. All right. 17 Obey them that
- 50:16have ruled over you and submit yourselves for they watch for
- 50:20your souls as they that must give an account, must give
- 50:23account that they may do it with joy and not with grief, for that
- 50:29is unprofitable for you. Ah, and I, yeah, I guess kind of
- 50:35self-explanatory. I'll let you go ahead here in a
- 50:38second. But there is something about
- 50:41working alongside somebody in a way that does not make their job
- 50:46harder. I mean, I think that's true in
- 50:49church. I think that's true in business.
- 50:51I think that's true in a family setting, whatever that you are
- 50:54not the cause of pain, right? So I just, that's an interesting
- 50:59verse. Yeah, I, I think it is AI think
- 51:03it's specific. I don't think this is, I don't
- 51:05personally think this is a verse for like Romans 13 would be
- 51:10about the, the leaders of the land or whatever.
- 51:13I think this is actually like leaders of the church, the
- 51:16elders, the you know, the the people that are like Paul or
- 51:20whoever at the time that was leading the people.
- 51:23I think he's encouraging people to submit themselves under those
- 51:27leaders. He says for they watch for your
- 51:30souls. That's why I think it's specific
- 51:31to those to the leadership role like that.
- 51:34And he says as they that must give account.
- 51:38In other words, James, I think it is one of them says be not
- 51:43many masters for there's a greater condemnation.
- 51:46In other words, don't, don't strive, don't everybody strive
- 51:48to be the master because that's actually a great responsibility.
- 51:51And that's what he's saying here.
- 51:52They give an account. They're going to give an account
- 51:53for that, that they may do it with joy.
- 51:57In other words, if you submit to them, if you, if you look at
- 52:00them as though they do have your good at heart, right?
- 52:04I mean, if you're going to somebody, I just, it's funny, I
- 52:08just said this to my kids. I said, I said, I don't want, I
- 52:13want you to realize that I have your best interests at heart.
- 52:16I'm not trying to make you miserable.
- 52:18You know, like I'm not saying something to try to make you
- 52:21miserable. I actually have your good in
- 52:23mind when I do this. So I think he's saying submit to
- 52:26them as though they have their good mind, because that will
- 52:29that will make them lead with joy, not with grief.
- 52:33For that is unprofitable to you. In other words, if they're
- 52:35leading you in a if they're if it is a grievous job to lead
- 52:40you, there's no profit in that for you.
- 52:42It's not going to be good for anybody, right?
- 52:45That's good. Yep, Andrew, he's muted.
- 52:51You're muted. I got you.
- 52:54That's the verse that let's say X Amish and Mennonites probably
- 52:57go like ouchy, you know, a bit, you know, But once the Holy
- 53:05Spirit gets a hold of us, we become a sponge that is just or
- 53:12a vacuum that is just looking for someone to pour some truth
- 53:17and life into us. I was like that when I first got
- 53:21a glimpse of the light life. Until then, we're always
- 53:24defensive. Defensive.
- 53:26Don't talk to me about it. I don't want to hear it.
- 53:29You're stepping on my, you know, you're stepping into a territory
- 53:32that I'm not comfortable with. And you know, we're loyal to the
- 53:35system. And then one day the Spirit of
- 53:38God gets hold off and we would come to sponge.
- 53:41And what I would give to have a leadership that I could look to
- 53:47and trust and submit to and know that they are genuinely looking
- 53:52after my soul and they know things, they've matured in the
- 53:56faith, they know the Bible, they know the gospel.
- 53:59And for them to communicate that to me and to help me, I think
- 54:04that's the mindset that I would like to put in people's minds is
- 54:07that you can make that very joyful for the one that is doing
- 54:11the preaching. When you're always standoffish
- 54:14and always fighting it, that's not helping anybody.
- 54:18That's not helping you. It's not helping the ministers
- 54:21in any way, but it's not I don't I don't if if to you it's like,
- 54:27oh, I got to submit to these elders and these leaders.
- 54:31I think that's a little bit of a twisted view of it.
- 54:34Like if you're hungry, if you want to know the word of God, if
- 54:37you want to get established in the faith, you're going to want
- 54:40someone that is more mature, has been in the faith longer than
- 54:45you, has some more spiritual understanding and it's very
- 54:48grateful thing. I mean, I would have almost paid
- 54:52money to have. I think that's why you're doing
- 54:54this, Leon, is because we want to have a voice out there that
- 55:00has no agenda because this ruling this, but the minister
- 55:04has really suffered with all the false preachers coming out.
- 55:07It really makes it difficult for someone, well, who is true, who
- 55:11actually has my best interest at heart, who actually genuinely
- 55:14cares for my soul. So I think you have to make that
- 55:17judgment when you remember how it says to watch their
- 55:20conversation like you watch him. And you, you have to decide who
- 55:26do you think is only promoting Jesus Christ in the Word of God
- 55:30or they have some other hidden agenda.
- 55:32And I think you can figure it out pretty quickly.
- 55:34But to find someone that actually cares for your soul is
- 55:36priceless. Amen.
- 55:39That's good, Melvin. Yeah, I just kind of had a light
- 55:44bulb moment when you guys are talking about the word submit,
- 55:48you know that word, when we hear that word especially towards
- 55:52what it's talking about here, then they have rule over you
- 55:55like elders or or leaders in a church.
- 55:58It gives us the willies, you know, because we've a lot of us
- 56:04have been used badly by leaders and elders.
- 56:08But the the light bulb moment that I had about submit is that
- 56:14submitting is actually walking alongside and helping that
- 56:18person. So when it says wives submit to
- 56:21your husband, it doesn't mean that your wife is just going to
- 56:25be under you like some slave or like some rug, but that she
- 56:30actually walks alongside of you because like you were saying,
- 56:35Andrew, because when she realizes that that you have the
- 56:39best interest for her, right, then she will submit to you.
- 56:43And that's what it's saying here that you submit to their
- 56:48yourselves for they have watched over your soul those that have
- 56:52their best interests for you and just walk alongside them and
- 56:56help them, right? That's what he's saying here
- 56:58because as they that must give account that they may do it with
- 57:02joy and not with grief. When you're walking alongside of
- 57:06someone and helping them, whatever that may be and
- 57:10whatever that looks like, it is going to be a joy for them and
- 57:14not a grief so good. Stuff.
- 57:20Yeah, he seems to be continuing on in the same vein of offering
- 57:23sacrifices to God. And here's one more thing for
- 57:26Christians to be able to do. One of the things that's very
- 57:30distasteful about a verse like this, and as well the verses
- 57:34that talk about husbands or wives submit to your husbands,
- 57:39is when the husband quotes that verse for his own benefit.
- 57:43It's really, really disgusting. Now husband says to his wife,
- 57:47you should submit to me. If you have to tell her to
- 57:50submit, there's a couple big problems going on there.
- 57:53You're either not leading well or she's rebellious.
- 57:57And maybe it's a bit of both. But the real, true submission
- 58:01comes from the bottom up, like a real leader in the church is not
- 58:06trying to Lord it over the flock.
- 58:09They're not supposed to. They're trying to just genuinely
- 58:12chart a course, lead the people in a certain direction, feed the
- 58:16flock, nourish them, build them up.
- 58:18And they're not telling people what to do.
- 58:20And so now he's telling the people, hey, when you notice
- 58:23somebody who's walking that way, when you notice somebody who
- 58:26actually loves you, just give them the joy of their life and
- 58:30actually submit to what they're recommending and teaching.
- 58:33He's not giving, he's not giving all the authority to a preacher
- 58:37over your life or anything weird like that.
- 58:39He's saying you as the hearer you and there's not many
- 58:42leaders. There really isn't.
- 58:44And he says, don't try to be too many leaders.
- 58:46Every now and then you get a church where there's a dozen men
- 58:48that all want to lead, but in most cases there's few.
- 58:51So when you have a man who wants to do it, has a desire for it,
- 58:55has been blessed by God to do it, is leading well, give him
- 58:59the benefit and help him to do it with joy and it will be a
- 59:03great benefit to you as well. So a submission comes from you
- 59:06to them. It's not a lording over from the
- 59:09top down. And it it never works that way.
- 59:12And so you want to please God and the church, honor your
- 59:16leaders, communicate good things to them, be submissive to their
- 59:19direction and their will. Give them the benefit of the
- 59:21doubt. Pray for them and help them in
- 59:23any way you can. It's never leaders now you to
- 59:27make sure that your congregation submits.
- 59:29It is completely backwards. So I think it's very well
- 59:32written. Amen.
- 59:35That's good. That's a good spot to finish.
- 59:37I think you wrapped it up quite nicely there, Dan.
- 59:41A good, good word there that we could submit.
- 59:46That is not a word that sits well with some people.
- 59:50I'm one of them probably, but. Anyway, yeah.
- 59:55Well, I'm just, I'm just saying it anyway.
- 59:58So, yeah, that's, that's good. I appreciate your your time.
- 1:00:01So anyway, we'll close it up here.
- 1:00:03Thank you for being with us tonight.
- 1:00:05As we conclude today's study, remember Hebrews 11/1.
- 1:00:09Faith is a substance of things hoped for, the evidence of
- 1:00:11things not seen. And as we're discussing here, we
- 1:00:15would wish that your faith could reveal all these biblical truths
- 1:00:18more clearly, that your physical eyes can perceive the things
- 1:00:21before you. Join us next Monday as we
- 1:00:24continue to look at God's Word through the substance of faith.
- 1:00:27God bless you guys. We'll see you back next week.
