Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Dearrek.
- 0:07Speaker 2: All right, well, I've been mentioning today on the one
- 0:09Speaker 2: that got Alex Network. Gota have friends, I'd have fans,
- 0:11Speaker 2: I'd have commentators. Well, of course we cannot leave this
- 0:15Speaker 2: week without talking to mister Terminello's take and Lou. We
- 0:18Speaker 2: were waiting together to see how this week would shape up.
- 0:22Speaker 2: And Uh, as a Yankee fan, I'm pretty happy. But
- 0:25Speaker 2: as an overall baseball fan, I actually thought this was
- 0:27Speaker 2: the strongest three games of a week. I mean, yeah,
- 0:31Speaker 2: the Dodgers got to two and oh, but this is
- 0:33Speaker 2: the strongest wild Card series we've had in a while.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Alex, thank you for having me. As always, You're right,
- 0:42Speaker 1: it was of excellent three days of watching major League baseball.
- 0:49Speaker 1: I watched about every pitch of every game, and uh
- 0:54Speaker 1: uh yeah, it was. It was. It was a good
- 0:56Speaker 1: week for major League baseball. I would say, I mean,
- 0:59Speaker 1: some of the teams that that are in the playoffs,
- 1:02Speaker 1: I don't know if they were really playoff teams, but
- 1:05Speaker 1: the games themselves were compelling, and I think that's a
- 1:09Speaker 1: good thing for major League Baseball. Usually you don't get
- 1:15Speaker 1: three out of four series that go to three games
- 1:18Speaker 1: and you know that, you know the deciding game, you know,
- 1:23Speaker 1: anything can happen. And I think that that drew a
- 1:27Speaker 1: lot of interest from not only the fans of the teams,
- 1:30Speaker 1: but just baseball fans in general. I mean, obviously I
- 1:33Speaker 1: had no rooting interests because my metso were eliminated before this,
- 1:40Speaker 1: you know, before the players didn't make it. But I watched.
- 1:43Speaker 1: I watched ninety nine percent of every game, So it
- 1:51Speaker 1: was it was compelling.
- 1:53Speaker 2: It was great, and I mean, yeah, I really I
- 1:57Speaker 2: like the way they stay. They base it out too.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I mean, I do feel like they've taken on this
- 2:02Speaker 2: football kind of format where every game is back to back,
- 2:04Speaker 2: and then that makes even more fun.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's true. And none of these games really
- 2:11Speaker 1: started late. There was no games that started at ten
- 2:13Speaker 1: forty five or eleven o'clock on the West coast, you know,
- 2:19Speaker 1: eleven o'clock Eastern time. So that was good. Like I said,
- 2:24Speaker 1: I thought it was a good week for Major League Baseball.
- 2:27Speaker 1: A lot of excitement and ironically, Alex, this is the
- 2:32Speaker 1: fourth year of this expanded playoff with the six teams
- 2:36Speaker 1: in each league and in the sixteen series. The first
- 2:45Speaker 1: fifteen series, the team that won Game one, won the
- 2:49Speaker 1: two out of three series. The first team not to
- 2:52Speaker 1: win the first game and win the series was the
- 2:56Speaker 1: game last night, the Yankee Red Sox Red Sox game.
- 3:00Speaker 1: So that's an interesting stat. Fifteen and one for the
- 3:05Speaker 1: game one winner in the sixteen series and the Yankees
- 3:07Speaker 1: broke that's a streak last night behind a brilliant, brilliant
- 3:12Speaker 1: performance by the rookie Cam Schlittler. Brilliant performance.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Now we all know in the New York area about him.
- 3:20Speaker 2: I mean, look, since he came up, he's been the
- 3:22Speaker 2: call above the year for the Yankees. He's been solid
- 3:25Speaker 2: every start. And by the way, yeah he had twelve
- 3:28Speaker 2: k's last night, but that's ninety two combined regular and
- 3:32Speaker 2: postseason and he've only started in June or July. That's impressive.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Well, the thing is, this is the best I've seen
- 3:38Speaker 1: him pitch. I don't know if this is what we're
- 3:41Speaker 1: gonna see. Obviously, not going to seek performances like this
- 3:45Speaker 1: on a consistent basis, But Alex he's only the second
- 3:47Speaker 1: guy in the history of Major League Baseball to strike
- 3:50Speaker 1: out twelve and walk none. The only other guy was
- 3:53Speaker 1: Tom sever In a nineteen seventy three National Championship Series
- 3:59Speaker 1: against the Big Machine. But he was tremendous last night.
- 4:03Speaker 1: I mean, I really didn't know what to expect last night. Obviously,
- 4:09Speaker 1: the Yankees are much better than the Red Sox. This
- 4:12Speaker 1: is not a classic Red Sox team. The Red Sox,
- 4:15Speaker 1: you know, kind of overachieved. Nobody expected them to to
- 4:19Speaker 1: make the playoffs this year. I think there are a
- 4:22Speaker 1: couple of years away. But they obviously have a lot
- 4:26Speaker 1: of good young players, and they missed Roman Anthony. But
- 4:29Speaker 1: they weren't going to beat the Yankees. But again they could.
- 4:33Speaker 1: I mean a couple of things went against against them.
- 4:37Speaker 1: In the fourth inning their fault, you know, obviously the
- 4:42Speaker 1: ground ball that wasn't played by by a low costing
- 4:47Speaker 1: two runs. But once the Yankees one had four nothing,
- 4:50Speaker 1: and the way Schlitler was pitching, and I would have
- 4:55Speaker 1: sent them out to the for the ninth Alex, I
- 4:57Speaker 1: mean I would have. I mean, he was he threw
- 4:59Speaker 1: a seven pitch eighth inning, and I would have sent
- 5:03Speaker 1: him out for the ninth inning. I really would have.
- 5:05Speaker 1: The kid deserved it, and uh yeah, it was a
- 5:08Speaker 1: brilliant pitching performance. So yeah, I mean I guess the ninth.
- 5:13Speaker 2: But I'll tell you one thing that Boone did learn
- 5:16Speaker 2: is and look, I also think Freed was done at
- 5:19Speaker 2: that point. He was taken out, But I think he
- 5:20Speaker 2: learned to stick with his guys as long as he can.
- 5:24Speaker 2: That's kind of what the lesson was for Boone this week.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Well, I think after Tuesday night, and let's face it,
- 5:30Speaker 1: Tuesday night the Yankees, the Yankees lost to a great,
- 5:34Speaker 1: great pitcher. The trade of the year was the Red
- 5:37Speaker 1: Sox getting Garrett Crochet, and they gave up floor to
- 5:41Speaker 1: top ten prospects to get him. Obviously, the White Sox
- 5:45Speaker 1: s knew that, you know, they were after losing one
- 5:48Speaker 1: hundred and twenty one games. By the time we turned
- 5:51Speaker 1: a corner, Crochet, Uh, Crochet might he retired. So they
- 5:55Speaker 1: did the right thing in trading their best trade ship
- 5:59Speaker 1: to had four other prospects, and he's a great I mean,
- 6:04Speaker 1: Crochet in his first really full year as a starter
- 6:08Speaker 1: as a dominant starter, was was tremendous and if it
- 6:11Speaker 1: wasn't for Tarik's struble, he would win the Say Young
- 6:15Speaker 1: Award easily. I was surprised Free came out that he
- 6:20Speaker 1: took him out on Tuesday night Boone did that? Did
- 6:24Speaker 1: surprise me?
- 6:26Speaker 3: Uh?
- 6:26Speaker 2: Not a surprise that when exists. I can't entirely fault.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Him for that. No, I mean, and again, let's face it,
- 6:34Speaker 1: the Yankee fans have a and the media have a
- 6:36Speaker 1: love hate relationship with Boone. But I don't know if
- 6:39Speaker 1: he'd made that lineup or if it came from, as
- 6:43Speaker 1: we talk on a million times, the analytic department. But
- 6:46Speaker 1: the Yankees advanced, they should have advanced. They're heavily favored
- 6:50Speaker 1: for a road team going into Toronto this weekend.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Really because my body feels nervous heading into the weekend.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Well, I mean obviously nervous any player seriously go to.
- 7:03Speaker 1: But I think I was talking to somebody on Monday
- 7:07Speaker 1: who's in the business, and he asked me who I
- 7:10Speaker 1: think is going to get to the World Series. And
- 7:12Speaker 1: I said, well, I don't like to pick that. I like,
- 7:14Speaker 1: I like to pick series by series. But I said,
- 7:17Speaker 1: if you're gonna force me who's gonna go uh to
- 7:22Speaker 1: the World Series this year, he's gonna force me to
- 7:25Speaker 1: pick that far ahead. I think we're gonna see a
- 7:27Speaker 1: rematch from from from last year Yankees and Dodgers Toronto.
- 7:34Speaker 1: I mean Dante Boschet. You know, the guy was on
- 7:36Speaker 1: his way to hit getting over two hundred hits, and
- 7:39Speaker 1: he's missed the last six weeks and apparently he's still
- 7:42Speaker 1: limping around. I mean, if he doesn't play, that's a
- 7:45Speaker 1: killer for them. And even if he does play, I
- 7:47Speaker 1: don't know how effective he's gonna be. And Chris Bassett
- 7:51Speaker 1: has a back injury. The Yankee should win this series.
- 7:56Speaker 1: The Yankee should win the series now that they got
- 7:58Speaker 1: by the pressure of a two out of three and
- 8:01Speaker 1: Alex made no mistake if the Yankees had lost last night,
- 8:04Speaker 1: and really the Red Sox chance to win was Tuesday night,
- 8:08Speaker 1: and I thought, I know everybody loves Alex Korra. I
- 8:12Speaker 1: thought he overmanaged on Tuesday, and he meant on Wednesday
- 8:16Speaker 1: in Game two, I thought he managed like the Red
- 8:20Speaker 1: Sox were down one game to none and were on
- 8:23Speaker 1: verge of elimination.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Look, you can't burn out a bullpen like that in
- 8:28Speaker 2: only game two of a series.
- 8:30Speaker 1: No he did. I mean I was surprised. And but
- 8:33Speaker 1: even with that, Eaton should have scored on that play
- 8:37Speaker 1: when Rice couldn't handle Jazz Chisholm's throw. I was shocked
- 8:44Speaker 1: when the ball rolled away and they said he held
- 8:46Speaker 1: up at third. That was a big, big, boneheaded era.
- 8:51Speaker 1: And of course Jared Duran, a very good outfielder. I mean,
- 8:55Speaker 1: just just drift and had that ball pop out of
- 8:58Speaker 1: his glove. And whoever was the official scorer that night,
- 9:04Speaker 1: gave Judge a hit that was unbelievable. But those things.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Course the Red Sox, you know, and uh they during
- 9:13Speaker 1: the season, their fielding wasn't great. But again they're just
- 9:17Speaker 1: they're just they're just starting.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Uh too, people that Roman Anthley was injured. That was
- 9:23Speaker 2: a big part of this too.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Oh, that was a big part. I mean, the guy,
- 9:26Speaker 1: the guy is a legitimate you know, a legitimate player already.
- 9:31Speaker 1: But the Yankees move on. I think the next I
- 9:35Speaker 1: think the series will be will be good. As you know,
- 9:37Speaker 1: I don't trust Toronto and I think they can get
- 9:41Speaker 1: rattled easy. I That's why I think Game one is
- 9:44Speaker 1: so important. If the Yankees could get in their heads.
- 9:48Speaker 1: And that's been Toronto's issue many times. Uh, when they
- 9:52Speaker 1: get into the playoffs, and they've been to the playoffs
- 9:53Speaker 1: squat for in the last five years, you get into
- 9:56Speaker 1: their head and they're done so and and what the
- 10:00Speaker 1: back end of their bullpen. Hoffman is not to be trusted.
- 10:04Speaker 1: I like the Yankees. I think the Yankees might win
- 10:06Speaker 1: four in this one. Now again, they should be receding
- 10:14Speaker 1: and the Yankees Toronto really shouldn't be playing the Yankees.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Toronto should be playing Detroit, and the Yankees should be
- 10:20Speaker 1: playing Seattle. I don't know why they bracketed. It should
- 10:25Speaker 1: be receding. When you play all year. The two best
- 10:30Speaker 1: teams record wise Umerica League are playing this weekend in
- 10:33Speaker 1: the Yankees in Toronto. I just think that's that's that's
- 10:39Speaker 1: shaky Detroit and Seattle. I like Seattle. Detroit has showed
- 10:45Speaker 1: me nothing. They are baseball's luckiest team. They're so lucky
- 10:49Speaker 1: that you know they won yesterday that a little race,
- 10:53Speaker 1: blowing a fifteen and a half game lead to Cleveland,
- 10:58Speaker 1: and you know, let's say Cleveland and Ice run an
- 11:00Speaker 1: amazing run. But Alex team batting average of two, twenty six,
- 11:04Speaker 1: twenty seven. I mean, how how they get this for you?
- 11:08Speaker 2: How they You're not going to get there with just
- 11:10Speaker 2: quant with just uh Stephen, Kuan and and uh and Jim,
- 11:14Speaker 2: that's for sure.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it's it's it's it's unbelievable so I want to.
- 11:19Speaker 2: I want to ask you this, well, I want to say,
- 11:21Speaker 2: also the unsung hero of the game. Really, I know
- 11:24Speaker 2: Schlittler was unbelievable, but you know who has he gotten
- 11:27Speaker 2: his flowers? As on Madrasio. He kicked off the scoring
- 11:30Speaker 2: with that nice hit to left, and I call it
- 11:33Speaker 2: the unlikely hit of the night because who'd have thought
- 11:35Speaker 2: he'd come through in that situation.
- 11:37Speaker 1: It just it wasn't.
- 11:38Speaker 2: It wasn't in the formula.
- 11:39Speaker 1: It felt like, well and again uh he uh he
- 11:44Speaker 1: hits left these and that's why he was in the
- 11:46Speaker 1: line up and he rocketed that boy. I think it
- 11:49Speaker 1: was almost one hundred and nine miles per hour. Uh
- 11:52Speaker 1: and and to give to get that all important first
- 11:55Speaker 1: run in the game. Now we all these series, Alex,
- 12:00Speaker 1: it's been a rebirth of pitching. I mean, with the
- 12:04Speaker 1: exception of the Dodgers, who played a Reds team that
- 12:07Speaker 1: was not really a playoff team. I'm sorry, the Mets
- 12:11Speaker 1: two and a half three and a half month slumber
- 12:15Speaker 1: basically got them in. If you include the two playoff losses.
- 12:19Speaker 1: The last twenty three games the Reds were thirteen and ten.
- 12:23Speaker 1: They certainly were in sizzling and I think the Reds
- 12:25Speaker 1: have a good roster, good young roster, and I think
- 12:29Speaker 1: they have good young pitching. So they might be a threat,
- 12:32Speaker 1: depending on what they do in the offseason, to be
- 12:36Speaker 1: a contender to finish first in the always shaky Central Division.
- 12:42Speaker 1: But this was a week of pitching pitching excellence.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Yeah, and I'll tell you the pitching resurgence. Look, you
- 12:51Speaker 2: don't think you don't think they MLB wouldn't want a
- 12:56Speaker 2: Yamamoto Imenega NLCS That would be so cool.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Well, Alex, I think that's what they're gonna get because, Uh,
- 13:07Speaker 1: I think the Dodgers is gonna go have the toughest
- 13:09Speaker 1: road to get to the World Series. But I think
- 13:12Speaker 1: they're gonna get there. You know, they play in Philly
- 13:17Speaker 1: the first two games, three out of five. Again, it's
- 13:19Speaker 1: a short series, and but I think the Dodgers are
- 13:22Speaker 1: gonna get there. I think they're They're pitching is excellent,
- 13:26Speaker 1: and they're pitching is deeper, much deeper than it was
- 13:28Speaker 1: last year when they have to use it. Even in
- 13:31Speaker 1: the World Series, they have to use one of those openers. Uh,
- 13:37Speaker 1: in the World Series.
- 13:38Speaker 2: I played in relief pitching relief last year.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Well, I think they're gonna probably utilize him out of
- 13:44Speaker 1: a bullpen. He wasn't on the roster for the wild
- 13:47Speaker 1: Card series, but I think I heard he's going to
- 13:50Speaker 1: be on the roster for this series coming up. And uh,
- 13:53Speaker 1: I think the Dodgers are gonna win. I mean I do. Uh,
- 13:59Speaker 1: it's go five. I think the Dodgers are gonna win.
- 14:02Speaker 2: I think if the Mets don't lose to Philly four
- 14:05Speaker 2: games there, the Mets probably the Phillies do not have
- 14:08Speaker 2: a solid year all year.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Well, they they I mean they're they're good. I mean
- 14:14Speaker 1: they won a division by thirteen games. I mean, you know, look, Alex,
- 14:20Speaker 1: the Mets were terrible for the last three and a
- 14:22Speaker 1: half months. Terrible. They finished twelve games behind in Miami
- 14:27Speaker 1: Marlins from January. From June thirteen to the end of
- 14:32Speaker 1: the season, the Mets were bad. For whatever reason, they
- 14:35Speaker 1: were bad. And everybody you can talk about a big
- 14:39Speaker 1: money team three hundred and forty million dollars, Yeah, well
- 14:42Speaker 1: that's true, but the big money guys did their job.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Lindor Soto, Alonso, Nemo and Diaz. Now dis can opt out.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Alonso already said he's gonna opt out. We'll see what
- 14:57Speaker 1: happens as we go into the Ufcason. But that's for
- 15:00Speaker 1: the offseason. But for these for these playoffs, you know,
- 15:04Speaker 1: the Cubs and Brewers, fantastic series. I think the Cubs
- 15:08Speaker 1: are gonna beat them. I think the Cubs are gonna
- 15:10Speaker 1: beat the Brewers, and you're gonna have a Cubs and
- 15:14Speaker 1: Dodgers and I think you're gonna have a Yankee and
- 15:16Speaker 1: Seattle championship series. And I think the Yankees and Dodgers
- 15:21Speaker 1: are going to play each other again. But let's see
- 15:24Speaker 1: what happened in this series before he makes so baseball,
- 15:30Speaker 1: it's a good it's it's been a good week for baseball.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Well, you know, one of the thing is anybody you're
- 15:35Speaker 2: talking about this too, and I feel it too, is
- 15:37Speaker 2: last night was really more of a let's stay hopeful
- 15:39Speaker 2: for twenty twenty six, as if the rest of the
- 15:42Speaker 2: postseason would be a bonus. And do you feel like
- 15:45Speaker 2: that should be the approach or I just think it
- 15:47Speaker 2: unfinished business? Now, Yeah, last night was huge and it
- 15:49Speaker 2: chose is what the future can be. But now you
- 15:51Speaker 2: gotta keep.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Going, Oh you you gotta seize the opportunity.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Absolutely, I mean, we could talk about twenty twenty six
- 15:59Speaker 2: all day long. But there's a real chance here, So.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Absolutely no doubt about it. And by the way, Anthony
- 16:06Speaker 1: Volpi had nice three games. You know, the guy that
- 16:10Speaker 1: takes the punches from the media and the fans. Yeah,
- 16:12Speaker 1: nice three games.
- 16:13Speaker 2: And by the way, he never deserved any of that,
- 16:15Speaker 2: because if people were observant, they would have known he
- 16:17Speaker 2: got injured in May and has needed cortizone shots. And
- 16:20Speaker 2: that's really what's been the problem here.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Well again, people forget that. He's that these guys are
- 16:26Speaker 1: made out of flesh and blood and not are not robots.
- 16:30Speaker 1: So people forget that, the media forgets that, the fans
- 16:33Speaker 1: forget that, and we all really know what these guys
- 16:38Speaker 1: go through as far as as far as physical, physical injuries.
- 16:44Speaker 2: So look at the guy that got hit in the faith.
- 16:46Speaker 2: I mean that was unbelievable.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Absolutely, yes, David fry. So we take that. Good baseball
- 16:56Speaker 1: weekend coming up, Good football weekend coming up?
- 16:59Speaker 2: I mean, is not that play reminded me of Polar
- 17:01Speaker 2: when he took that to the face in Philly.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Yes, I do remember that.
- 17:07Speaker 2: As you mentioned football, Look, the Jets are kind of
- 17:10Speaker 2: a lost cause of the moment. However, the Giants would Dart.
- 17:13Speaker 2: I think people are expecting them on a second second
- 17:16Speaker 2: week in a row here.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Well, they have obviously have a good chance. It's they're
- 17:21Speaker 1: playing a team that uh ish and five and four
- 17:26Speaker 1: and I want to go to and five. They're at
- 17:27Speaker 1: home in New Orleans, so they're gonna They're gonna be
- 17:30Speaker 1: they should be ready to play. I thought last week
- 17:34Speaker 1: Jackson Dart was the reason the Giants won. I'm not
- 17:38Speaker 1: saying that he didn't put not he didn't put up
- 17:41Speaker 1: big numbers, but his presence. I think, just as we
- 17:46Speaker 1: said last week going into the game on when we
- 17:48Speaker 1: were on the podcast last week, that he would juice
- 17:51Speaker 1: up the players, he would juice up the crowd. And and
- 17:55Speaker 1: he did and and he did like I said, I
- 17:57Speaker 1: didn't have a great passing game they but he won
- 18:01Speaker 1: the game and he gave the Giants a little toughness
- 18:08Speaker 1: that they didn't have previously. The Giants have a great
- 18:10Speaker 1: chance to win this week, and then they have a
- 18:12Speaker 1: short work week because they played Philadelphia next Thursday night,
- 18:16Speaker 1: which will be difficult. I mean, hey, the Jets, I
- 18:21Speaker 1: don't know when they're gonna win their first game. They're
- 18:23Speaker 1: playing Dallas this week. Dallas can't stop anybody, but Dallas
- 18:28Speaker 1: can score.
- 18:29Speaker 2: And I do love know when Glenn running up and
- 18:32Speaker 2: down sideline after that attempt at the black block field
- 18:35Speaker 2: goal into a touch of that was great.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Yeah, So so we'll again. I don't like the defensive coordinator,
- 18:42Speaker 1: you know, I said that when they hired him back
- 18:45Speaker 1: back in the spring. Looks like they you know, you
- 18:48Speaker 1: have you have good talent on defense. Not I'm not
- 18:51Speaker 1: saying that eighty five Chicago Bears, but it looks like
- 18:56Speaker 1: there's no coordination or communication uh on defense. So so
- 19:02Speaker 1: so we'll see. We'll see what happens. Jets are at home.
- 19:06Speaker 2: I don't you know, I I but look, even Dallas
- 19:09Speaker 2: is struggle. Mean, people are wondering how they ended in
- 19:11Speaker 2: tie last week. That's not good.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Well, the thing is, everybody was talking about how great
- 19:18Speaker 1: green Bay is and Dallas is not a Super Bowl team,
- 19:21Speaker 1: and how good green Bay is. How could green Bay
- 19:24Speaker 1: give up forty points if they want to win the
- 19:26Speaker 1: Super Bowl. I'm sure and I'm not saying they can't
- 19:29Speaker 1: win the Super Bowl. But they gave up. They gave up.
- 19:31Speaker 1: They couldn't stop Dak Prescott and see lamb wasn't wasn't
- 19:36Speaker 1: even there. I mean, he's out for the next three
- 19:38Speaker 1: four weeks.
- 19:39Speaker 2: But every time the Cowboys give up more than twenty
- 19:41Speaker 2: or so, I'm always gonna laugh because I believe it
- 19:43Speaker 2: was Jerry Jones that said, oh he couldn't stop the rush.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Now that those words are hunting him forever now.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Well, Jerry Jones didn't show up as the general manager.
- 19:55Speaker 1: He didn't get the personnel to show up his defense
- 19:58Speaker 1: and their defense is not good. So so we'll see what
- 20:04Speaker 1: happens Sunday at MetLife. I think Dallas will win all right.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Being a GM, I mean I saw the Rockies fired
- 20:10Speaker 2: their gim, but I was more than a Brett snick
- 20:12Speaker 2: nickerr because obviously that impacts the nl EAST. Him moving
- 20:16Speaker 2: to an advisory role and retiring from the manager spot.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Does that make Atlanta better if they bring in somebody else.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Well, I mean, it had been rumored that this might
- 20:26Speaker 1: have been his last year. You know, he's sixteen nine
- 20:29Speaker 1: years old. He's been a great manager for the four
- 20:32Speaker 1: team that's always been good. This year, everything went wrong
- 20:36Speaker 1: for the for the Atlanta Braves, you name it, it
- 20:39Speaker 1: went wrong for them. They should be back next year.
- 20:43Speaker 1: In a contending position. They had pitching injuries, and we'll
- 20:49Speaker 1: see who's gonna be the next manager. I know that
- 20:53Speaker 1: the former Cub manager who was there for only one year,
- 20:56Speaker 1: David Ross's arrested in the job.
- 21:00Speaker 3: And you know, we did a good he did a
- 21:02Speaker 3: nice job for for the Cubs, and uh so, we'll
- 21:06Speaker 3: see who gets that that that job. And Louie's pool
- 21:10Speaker 3: host says that he's interested in Los Angeles Angels job.
- 21:14Speaker 3: That's I mean, there's a there's a lot of openings
- 21:17Speaker 3: in his first week and so a lot to watch
- 21:22Speaker 3: to see who gets who gets those.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Positions. Uh So, but hey, Spindaker had a terrific career there.
- 21:33Speaker 1: He won the World's championship, and yeah, it's time to
- 21:38Speaker 1: move on. I mean, that's not a big surprise because
- 21:41Speaker 1: it was always always possibility that he may uh pack
- 21:47Speaker 1: it in at the end of this year, and he did.
- 21:49Speaker 2: All right, Louis, we are here next Wednesday, next Tuesday's
- 21:53Speaker 2: opening night, So why don't we wrap up the NHL
- 21:57Speaker 2: fans here with some thoughts as we hit the regular season.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Now, well, as you know, I'm looking forward to it,
- 22:07Speaker 1: and you know, let's see what happens. If the Rangers
- 22:12Speaker 1: can bounce back with their new coach, the man who
- 22:15Speaker 1: is the coach of the United States national team, the
- 22:19Speaker 1: Olympic team, Mike Sullivan, a coach who's highly respected. I
- 22:25Speaker 1: think the Rangers probably will be more disciplined. I this
- 22:32Speaker 1: is a big year for a lot of guys on
- 22:34Speaker 1: the Rangers. Adam Fox, you know, can he regain this form?
- 22:38Speaker 1: I as you know, I think he's a little overrated,
- 22:41Speaker 1: but they need him to be the Adam Fox that
- 22:46Speaker 1: that won the Norris Trophy a couple of years ago,
- 22:49Speaker 1: and they need to bandage that to be consistent from
- 22:52Speaker 1: the beginning. Obviously, they have no goaltending issues and panarins
- 22:58Speaker 1: last year, and then he's a free agent. We'll see
- 23:02Speaker 1: what happens there. And you know, he is no matter
- 23:04Speaker 1: what you want to say, he is their best points
- 23:07Speaker 1: producer and he is the guy that the opposition has
- 23:16Speaker 1: to stop that he's in their game plan. So and
- 23:20Speaker 1: we'll talk more about the Rangers once the season begins,
- 23:24Speaker 1: you know, on Tuesday. As the season goes on, But
- 23:26Speaker 1: the Rangers cannot be out of the playoffs basically basically
- 23:32Speaker 1: the last three quarters of this season, and they can't
- 23:35Speaker 1: just on their goaltending to get them through. For the Islanders, interesting,
- 23:45Speaker 1: I mean, a new management is on the honeymoon. Matthew Dodge,
- 23:51Speaker 1: I think he did some nice things. He got the
- 23:54Speaker 1: Islanders younger immediately. He did a great job with that
- 24:00Speaker 1: cal Rich You're gonna make the team. It looks like
- 24:02Speaker 1: Matthew Schaeffer is going to make the team even though
- 24:05Speaker 1: he just turned eighteen. Is Anton Declaire gonna have a
- 24:09Speaker 1: bounce back year after that bad injury, that terrible injury
- 24:12Speaker 1: he had and then being ineffective the Islanders have, you know,
- 24:17Speaker 1: their goaltending is not really an issue. Is this the
- 24:22Speaker 1: last year for anders Lee in all likelihood yes? Will
- 24:26Speaker 1: he betrayed at the trade deadline? Maybe? So those are
- 24:31Speaker 1: some of the things to look at. Is this a player?
- 24:33Speaker 1: Could this team uh contend for the playoffs? I'm not
- 24:36Speaker 1: really sure. I don't think so, because I think Montreal
- 24:40Speaker 1: is going to take a big jump this year. Ottawa
- 24:44Speaker 1: might take a bigger jump this year so and Detroit
- 24:49Speaker 1: has to, you know, finally break through. So I think
- 24:52Speaker 1: the Islanders are in a little bit of a tough
- 24:53Speaker 1: line there, but we'll see. And for the New Jersey Devils,
- 24:57Speaker 1: this is the year they're no, No, they're no for
- 25:00Speaker 1: a nice young bunch of guys. Uh, this is the
- 25:03Speaker 1: they gotta they gotta make Uh they got they gotta
- 25:07Speaker 1: make a jump a next level jump. Jack has three
- 25:13Speaker 1: or four years left on his deal. H Quinn's a
- 25:17Speaker 1: free age at the end of this year, Alex, I
- 25:21Speaker 1: wouldn't be surprised if there's a trade either soon before
- 25:27Speaker 1: the trade deadline. What Well, I know we don't watch Vancouver.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Well I do, but I know a lot of New
- 25:33Speaker 1: York area fans don't focus on Vancouver, but I think,
- 25:37Speaker 1: uh they should because the Vancouver gets off to a
- 25:40Speaker 1: slow start. I think you can see uh the Luke
- 25:44Speaker 1: the Quin news coming to New Jersey happening sometime in
- 25:47Speaker 1: the middle of the year. And uh uh Dougie Hamilton,
- 25:51Speaker 1: who has two years left on his deal at nine
- 25:53Speaker 1: million a year, could be part of that trade going
- 25:55Speaker 1: to Van Vancouver. Just my thoughts, Neil. We'll see Dawson
- 26:03Speaker 1: Mersher has to have a better year than he had
- 26:04Speaker 1: last year for the Devils and it should be in
- 26:07Speaker 1: interesting hockey season at least at least at the start.
- 26:11Speaker 1: And remember the first twenty games are very important. If
- 26:15Speaker 1: you want to be a playoff contender after after a
- 26:20Speaker 1: Thanksgiving Day. Those first twenty games are really important. Remember
- 26:24Speaker 1: we also have an Olympic break in February for two weeks.
- 26:28Speaker 2: I got to say before we wrap, going for imagine
- 26:31Speaker 2: next year and the mental actually in the postseason, the
- 26:35Speaker 2: Yanks in the postseason, and the NHL is starting along
- 26:38Speaker 2: with football. I love the September starting idea.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Yeah no, well yeah, because next year they go to
- 26:45Speaker 1: NHL goes to eighty four games, and it'll be it'll be,
- 26:53Speaker 1: it'll be interesting. So we'll see what happens. And some
- 27:00Speaker 1: breaking news, Alex, the Texas Rangers have hired former Marlins
- 27:04Speaker 1: manager Skip Schumacher as their manager. I know he was
- 27:07Speaker 1: on their target list and they.
- 27:09Speaker 2: Just I remember when he played with the Cardinals.
- 27:14Speaker 1: Well he's still young, and that's probably that's a good
- 27:18Speaker 1: pick for the Texas Rangers, who I thought we were gonna
- 27:21Speaker 1: win the Western Division of the American League this year,
- 27:24Speaker 1: and for the second straight year, their offense just just
- 27:28Speaker 1: was terrible.
- 27:29Speaker 2: So I know, and Boat she had won in a
- 27:31Speaker 2: couple of years ago. But you know, it's time to changing.
- 27:34Speaker 2: Bob Melvin out in San Francisco as well, yeah.
- 27:37Speaker 1: That surprised me. I was surprised that Bob Melvin got
- 27:40Speaker 1: the acts. I really did. He'll probably get another job
- 27:44Speaker 1: and so you know, we'll see what happens. It's a
- 27:48Speaker 1: good good, like I said, a good weekend starting with
- 27:51Speaker 1: tomorrow with baseball, the football both college and UH and
- 27:56Speaker 1: pros and hockey season begins next week. So we love
- 28:00Speaker 1: sports and we got a lot to chew on with
- 28:03Speaker 1: what's going on. So thank you, Alex, Hey.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Thank you so much. We love when it's a multi
- 28:09Speaker 2: sport town all at the same time, so it's exciting.
- 28:12Speaker 2: At least. There's some baseball coming into New York next
- 28:14Speaker 2: week in addition to opening night for the Rangers, so
- 28:17Speaker 2: it'll be all fun and whatnot. All right, Well, Luta
- 28:19Speaker 2: Minello giving his take. And by the way, you can
- 28:22Speaker 2: take Tripper to the game this postseason, as I've been
- 28:26Speaker 2: given word by one Eric Ryan at Tripper Corp that yes,
- 28:31Speaker 2: Tripper is giving you in all inclusive accessible travel to
- 28:37Speaker 2: and from Yankee Stadium all postseason long. So book with
- 28:40Speaker 2: them right now Trippercorp dot Net. The games on Tuesday,
- 28:44Speaker 2: maybe Wednesday as well, we'll have to see, but for now,
- 28:47Speaker 2: book your ride today with the all inclusive Accessible Transportation company.
- 28:53Speaker 2: With your Wave vehicles, you need to get to him
- 28:56Speaker 2: from the game, door to door. Gaby and I have
- 28:58Speaker 2: had them multiple times take us to him from sporting events.
- 29:02Speaker 2: Very honored to partner with them this month and I
- 29:05Speaker 2: just want to give him a shout out tonight on
- 29:07Speaker 2: one look up Alex Network
