- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo! I'm Lucas, and with me is the wonderful Luna. Luna: Hey everyone! So excited for another episode. You know, last time we talked about time words, and I'm still practicing my 'saa ngapi'. Lucas: And you're doing great. Today, we're going to learn some animal names in Swahili. Perfect for if you're visiting a farm or just love animals. Luna: Oh, I love animals! Let's start. What's the first one? Lucas: Let's start with a common pet: cat. In Swahili, cat is 'paka'. Luna: Paka. Lucas: Yes! Paka. Say it again. Luna: Paka. Lucas: Great. Now, dog is 'mbwa'. Luna: Mbwa. That one is easy. Lucas: Exactly. So we have paka and mbwa. Let's use them in a sentence. To say 'This is a cat', you say 'Huyu ni paka'. Luna: Huyu ni paka. Lucas: Perfect. And 'This is a dog' is 'Huyu ni mbwa'. Luna: Huyu ni mbwa. Lucas: You've got it. Now, let's add two more animals. Cow is 'ng'ombe'. Luna: Ng'ombe. That's fun to say. Lucas: And chicken is 'kuku'. Luna: Kuku. Like the sound? That's cute. Lucas: Yeah, it's a nice word. So we have paka, mbwa, ng'ombe, and kuku. Let's practice them all. Repeat after me: paka. Luna: Paka. Lucas: Mbwa. Luna: Mbwa. Lucas: Ng'ombe. Luna: Ng'ombe. Lucas: Kuku. Luna: Kuku. Lucas: Excellent. Now, let's make sentences. 'Huyu ni paka'. Luna: Huyu ni paka. Lucas: Huyu ni mbwa. Luna: Huyu ni mbwa. Lucas: Huyu ni ng'ombe. Luna: Huyu ni ng'ombe. Lucas: Huyu ni kuku. Luna: Huyu ni kuku. Lucas: You're a natural. Let's do a quick scene. Imagine you're at a market and you see a chicken. You could point and say...? Luna: Huyu ni kuku. Lucas: Exactly. And if someone asks you about a dog? Luna: Huyu ni mbwa. Lucas: Perfect. Now, let's do a little challenge. I'll say an animal in English, and you say it in Swahili. Cat. Luna: Paka. Lucas: Dog. Luna: Mbwa. Lucas: Cow. Luna: Ng'ombe. Lucas: Chicken. Luna: Kuku. Lucas: Nailed it. So today we learned paka, mbwa, ng'ombe, kuku, and how to say 'this is...'. Luna: I love these words. I'm going to practice with my friends. 'Huyu ni paka!' for my cat. Lucas: That's the idea. Remember, you can always go back and listen again. Practice makes perfect. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. And thanks to Fexingo for making this show. See you next time! Lucas: Kwaheri for now. Keep speaking Swahili!
