- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, there's plenty happening this weekend and I'm pleased to
- 0:03Speaker 1: say that there is going to be a fight night
- 0:05Speaker 1: on Saturday. And joining me on the line is Boxing
- 0:08Speaker 1: and T Secretary Penny Rochford. Good morning to your Penny.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Good morning, Katie, Penny.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Tell us a little bit more about what we can
- 0:16Speaker 1: expect on Saturday.
- 0:19Speaker 2: So we've got twenty one bouts booked in for Saturday night,
- 0:24Speaker 2: starting from our first up and coming having their first
- 0:29Speaker 2: fight into the territory elites. So we've got a few
- 0:33Speaker 2: that one that went away represented at comm game competing
- 0:38Speaker 2: and a few of the Golden Gloves champions coming on
- 0:41Speaker 2: their way back. Awesome, what's happening.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Yeah, it sounds like it's going to be a big
- 0:46Speaker 1: night twenty one bouts. Penny. Any, are there any boxes
- 0:50Speaker 1: coming from other locations around the territory or in or nationally.
- 0:56Speaker 2: So we've got some boxes car traveling up from Springs. Yeah,
- 1:01Speaker 2: we've got one new South Wales boxer that's put their
- 1:03Speaker 2: hand up. He was up here on holidays that wanted
- 1:06Speaker 2: to jump in, so he's on the card as well.
- 1:08Speaker 2: But yeah, mainly Darwin and Alice.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Good stuff. Now, are there any any bouts through. I mean,
- 1:13Speaker 1: I know all the bouts are going to be good ones,
- 1:15Speaker 1: but are there any throughout the night that we should
- 1:17Speaker 1: be waiting and keeping a really close eye on.
- 1:20Speaker 2: So we've got our main event, which is a one
- 1:24Speaker 2: hundred and fifty kilo guy getting in the ring. Yeah,
- 1:27Speaker 2: so that could be a that'll be a cracker and
- 1:30Speaker 2: a lot of the kids kids getting in there. They
- 1:32Speaker 2: just love having having a crack, so just they just
- 1:36Speaker 2: go from start finish.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Oh fantastic stuff. One hundred and fifty kilos. Geez I
- 1:42Speaker 1: bet he can throw them?
- 1:44Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely can.
- 1:46Speaker 1: That will be an interesting one now I know that
- 1:48Speaker 1: this fight night as well, it is ahead of next
- 1:50Speaker 1: month's Australian Club Championships, which we'll see the biggest group
- 1:55Speaker 1: ever of Territory boxes head to Adelaide.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Yes, so we're hoping to have about twenty boxes go
- 2:02Speaker 2: away and compete at that. We'll have two of our
- 2:06Speaker 2: boxes hopefully win back to back gold and then a
- 2:11Speaker 2: few redemption bouts as well. And then it's a good
- 2:15Speaker 2: tournament to go to because it's matched zero to three,
- 2:18Speaker 2: three to five, so they do get in and they're
- 2:21Speaker 2: evenly matched, so it's good to see where we're against
- 2:24Speaker 2: the rest of the country.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, And you did mention that there are a
- 2:29Speaker 1: couple of boxes who are hoping that they come away
- 2:33Speaker 1: with the back to back win. Who are they? Who
- 2:36Speaker 1: should we know about?
- 2:38Speaker 2: So we've got Jericho Dale and Vitter Formatu, both of
- 2:42Speaker 2: them are fighting this weekend. They're fighting each other. But yeah,
- 2:46Speaker 2: they both won gold at Club Championships last year and
- 2:49Speaker 2: they're hoping to They want to be the first Territory
- 2:53Speaker 2: Territory boxes to bring it back so the second year, Oh, good.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Luck to them. Hey, Peenny, when it comes to boxing
- 3:00Speaker 1: in the Northern Territory, how do you go like in
- 3:02Speaker 1: terms of those various weight divisions. I know it can
- 3:04Speaker 1: be tough sometimes to get enough boxes to be able
- 3:07Speaker 1: to sort of fight against against those that are similar
- 3:10Speaker 1: skills level and also at a similar weight. But how
- 3:13Speaker 1: are things going around the place at the moment.
- 3:16Speaker 2: It's not too bad. We we've managed to get twenty
- 3:19Speaker 2: twenty one bouts on the card. Yeah, and we do
- 3:22Speaker 2: have a few of our boxes club on club so
- 3:27Speaker 2: it means Cyclone versus Cyclone. But we're not too concerned
- 3:32Speaker 2: about the results at our fight night it's more the
- 3:35Speaker 2: anti titles and things like that, which they'll be in
- 3:38Speaker 2: different weight categories. But yes, it is always hard and
- 3:43Speaker 2: were hoping to get enough money out of this fighttnight
- 3:48Speaker 2: to be able to bring spot fighters up to the
- 3:50Speaker 2: territory and really showcase those elite boxes that we've got
- 3:56Speaker 2: going around at the moment.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Well, and twenty one bouts, I mean, that's still a
- 3:59Speaker 1: busy night, isn't it. That's still quite a few bouts
- 4:02Speaker 1: in one night when you are just looking at the
- 4:05Speaker 1: territory and a few fighters from other locations.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely. It's probably one of the biggest ones we've
- 4:11Speaker 2: had in a long time. Penny, where's the titles?
- 4:15Speaker 1: Yeah, that's awesome. Where's it happening? And can anyone come along?
- 4:19Speaker 2: Yeah, anyone can come now that the cho has relaxed
- 4:22Speaker 2: all the rules. It's at the Ciperis Club in Baton
- 4:27Speaker 2: Road in Marara. Yeah, thirty dollars for adults and kids
- 4:31Speaker 2: under sixteen fifteen dollars.
- 4:33Speaker 1: And have you got any you know, anybody making their
- 4:36Speaker 1: debuts having their first bout this weekend.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Yeah, we've got quite a few in the card. We've
- 4:42Speaker 2: got a lot of our little ten year olds having
- 4:44Speaker 2: their first fight. So there's probably about five or six
- 4:49Speaker 2: having a debut.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Oh good on them. That's exciting. Is it mostly the
- 4:52Speaker 1: boys or have you got girls that get involved as well?
- 4:56Speaker 2: We have three girl bouts time round. Yeah, so that's
- 5:01Speaker 2: really really good. Some of them are on the exhibition
- 5:04Speaker 2: due to the weight category and the limited a number
- 5:09Speaker 2: of girls, but it's still good to get in there
- 5:11Speaker 2: and get the experience in front of a crowd.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Wonderful stuff. I love the boxing. I never boxed myself, obviously,
- 5:19Speaker 1: but not obviously. Maybe I could have given a penny.
- 5:23Speaker 2: But I grew up.
- 5:24Speaker 1: We're two older brothers who certainly did a lot of boxing.
- 5:27Speaker 1: I think it's a fantastic sport to watch. I always
- 5:31Speaker 1: enjoy it. So good luck on the weekend. I hope
- 5:33Speaker 1: it's a cracking night.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Thanks very much, Katie, Thank you, No worries at all,
