- 0:03Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:06Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. The world's
- 0:17Speaker 1: welcome to Patriot's Unfiltered. No All, Alex Yeah did a
- 0:23Speaker 1: little more research on the rap game. She's so disgusted
- 0:27Speaker 1: after the rap views from last show. She's never going
- 0:30Speaker 1: to come to her. She tweeted out a list after
- 0:32Speaker 1: the show yesterday. Her favorite rappers is like she's a teen.
- 0:35Speaker 1: This is like my favorite draft crushes. It's like, I
- 0:37Speaker 1: could be here all day, right, you know, Sarah David's
- 0:40Speaker 1: funny coming from me. I didn't like the way he
- 0:42Speaker 1: snarkily sort of chastised us all. I would definitely give
- 0:46Speaker 1: Bill some credit for developing Tom Brady. Well. That has
- 0:49Speaker 1: turned into on Twitter someone saying that I said that
- 0:51Speaker 1: Brady Belichick made break, which is not what I said
- 0:55Speaker 1: and not what I meant. If it's exactly what you said,
- 0:57Speaker 1: this is one board, one bad, one board, and Bill
- 1:01Speaker 1: ultimately sets. Bill ultimately decides, and he might have guys
- 1:05Speaker 1: that are way differently ranked than than mac gerel. Would
- 1:07Speaker 1: I have more faith than Bill than obviously ere great indisputable.
- 1:11Speaker 1: I don't I don't care what anyone cares. It is
- 1:13Speaker 1: just like a whole world evolution chan, But I'm defending Bill.
- 1:16Speaker 1: This is Patriots Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan. All right, welcome
- 1:23Speaker 1: to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here at Gilette Stadium.
- 1:27Speaker 1: And uh, I don't know if the show is anything
- 1:30Speaker 1: like the pre show chat every we're wired up here,
- 1:34Speaker 1: are ready to go? Let's go? Yeah, got food already?
- 1:37Speaker 1: You got food. I didn't get fine QR codes as complications. Yeah,
- 1:42Speaker 1: but yeah, there's a lot to talk about. Um. Obviously,
- 1:46Speaker 1: even though we're in between sort of combine being over,
- 1:50Speaker 1: the draft hasn't started. Obviously, we're in that middle period.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Things will slow down with free agency. But I mean,
- 1:57Speaker 1: you know, the talk with the about the Patriots and
- 2:00Speaker 1: is out there, and you wonder, like, you know, how
- 2:04Speaker 1: other teams are just kind of reveling in this. It's
- 2:07Speaker 1: like finally, you know, the you know, we're getting they're
- 2:11Speaker 1: getting their come up, and you know, you know, there's
- 2:14Speaker 1: all this stuff about them coming out and you know,
- 2:18Speaker 1: uh so I would imagine that teams that have been
- 2:22Speaker 1: downtrodden by us over the last twenty years and now
- 2:26Speaker 1: reveling in all of this. Yeah, well, I guess we
- 2:29Speaker 1: should bring up Pro Football Talk reporting this morning that
- 2:32Speaker 1: that Bill Belichick has floated Mac Jones's trade bait to
- 2:35Speaker 1: a few teams. Now, what's the source on this, But
- 2:40Speaker 1: you know, like like like for all the other teams,
- 2:43Speaker 1: this is good to get that out there because it
- 2:45Speaker 1: causes discord within the Patriot when you open the show, like,
- 2:48Speaker 1: that's exactly what I was thinking. I'm like, I'm like,
- 2:50Speaker 1: of course, you know, there's there's probably I mean, I
- 2:52Speaker 1: don't think any one of us doesn't think that there's
- 2:54Speaker 1: some fire where all this smoke has been ever since,
- 2:56Speaker 1: Bill Belichick has refused to even acknowledge him as the
- 2:58Speaker 1: starting quarterback here anymore. But I did wonder that it
- 3:01Speaker 1: only takes one guy from another team to call up
- 3:03Speaker 1: and be like, hey, Mike, uh, you know Billy's he's
- 3:05Speaker 1: been trying to trademark this year, know, I mean, it
- 3:07Speaker 1: just helps. I mean, it just helps. You know. You said, um,
- 3:10Speaker 1: because I haven't read the post, you said there were
- 3:13Speaker 1: a couple of teams that were sort of speculated as
- 3:16Speaker 1: being potential. Yeah, I meant Washington, Tampa Bay. I read
- 3:22Speaker 1: that part more as informed opinion, Right, Yeah, who needs
- 3:25Speaker 1: a quarter. No, But I'm just saying, like, so, like
- 3:27Speaker 1: we can we can blow the Raiders and not spend
- 3:30Speaker 1: the next hour and forty five minutes talking about this one,
- 3:32Speaker 1: like I think we are up, or we could just say, well,
- 3:35Speaker 1: the other teams are all like what does Washington? What
- 3:37Speaker 1: does Washington gain by having that out there? If? Right?
- 3:41Speaker 1: Like like, I don't I'm not telling you it's true
- 3:44Speaker 1: because I have no idea and I do not have
- 3:46Speaker 1: the highest regard for Mike Florio as you know, right,
- 3:50Speaker 1: Terry Bradshaw's still alive, by the way, Um so there's
- 3:54Speaker 1: one inside joke evan one Gary Bradshaw. Yeah, yeah, he
- 3:58Speaker 1: had Terry Bradshaw dead not only that but twelve years
- 4:01Speaker 1: and Andy Hartt called him on that I gotta we
- 4:06Speaker 1: can leave that we can. Yeah. Um so I'm not
- 4:10Speaker 1: telling you that I think this report is accurate or true.
- 4:13Speaker 1: But just like as we were talking about it right
- 4:15Speaker 1: before the show, Everden I kind of looked at each
- 4:16Speaker 1: other because kind of kind of feels like there might
- 4:19Speaker 1: be something to it. Well, like but you said, like
- 4:21Speaker 1: what would the commanders benefit? Like maybe nothing, but the
- 4:24Speaker 1: commanders are on the phone with Miami one day saying,
- 4:26Speaker 1: you know that I got a call from Patriots about that.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Really so and then Miami gets it out there. You
- 4:31Speaker 1: know what I mean? You know how to think that
- 4:33Speaker 1: these teams care about the Patriots in that way? Anyway? Oh?
- 4:36Speaker 1: I think I think they're worried about competing with the
- 4:38Speaker 1: teams ahead of them behind. I think they love seeing
- 4:40Speaker 1: bad things happen to us, no doubt and no doubt
- 4:44Speaker 1: about that every once against us. Paul I forget that,
- 4:47Speaker 1: but I you know, irrelevant. Earlier this offseason, there was
- 4:50Speaker 1: was talk of Josh and the Raiders being interested in
- 4:53Speaker 1: Mac right, and it was you know, oh they I
- 4:55Speaker 1: mean I remember at that time kind of being like
- 4:57Speaker 1: the Raiders. One makes all the sense in the world
- 4:59Speaker 1: to me. Yeah, but also they didn't do it. Yeah,
- 5:03Speaker 1: because knows the guy like that. That makes sense to me,
- 5:06Speaker 1: he has some knowledge of us. So was Bill floating him?
- 5:08Speaker 1: Was Josh asking for him? Well? I don't know, but
- 5:12Speaker 1: my guess is Bill's floating him. And if Josh really
- 5:15Speaker 1: wanted him, then why couldn't have gotten gone? Yeah, that's
- 5:18Speaker 1: what I'm saying. I think if he wanted him, he'd
- 5:20Speaker 1: be a Raider. Yeah, I don't know. Either way. I
- 5:23Speaker 1: mean it's the big picture though. I think we were
- 5:25Speaker 1: all talking about we're just like none of this is
- 5:26Speaker 1: like I mean, Mac Jones is just like up against
- 5:29Speaker 1: it this year. I mean, it's not a lot of
- 5:31Speaker 1: support right now. You know, we all talk about, you know,
- 5:33Speaker 1: what's going to be a fair test for Mac this
- 5:35Speaker 1: year in terms of his physical ability and the pieces
- 5:39Speaker 1: around him. If if we don't get a good indication
- 5:42Speaker 1: of his mental makeup this year, we never will because
- 5:46Speaker 1: you know, mentally he's being tested right now, Like, how
- 5:51Speaker 1: is he going to respond? Even if none of this
- 5:53Speaker 1: is true? It's out there, you know, and he's seeing
- 5:56Speaker 1: it too, and you know, how does he respond to this?
- 6:00Speaker 1: Forget about you know, the weapons around him at all?
- 6:02Speaker 1: How does he respond to this? And to me, this
- 6:05Speaker 1: is a great test. How does he respond to this?
- 6:08Speaker 1: Does he use this as fuel? Does he use this
- 6:11Speaker 1: as motive? I don't have to keep testing him. No,
- 6:13Speaker 1: I'm not saying that we are doing it. But no,
- 6:16Speaker 1: I'm just saying why do they have to keep And
- 6:18Speaker 1: I look, maybe this report is just yeah, I'm not
- 6:20Speaker 1: saying completely. I'm not saying the Patriots are doing this,
- 6:24Speaker 1: just the mere fact that it's out there. How does
- 6:27Speaker 1: he respond to this? I just feel like there's this
- 6:31Speaker 1: there's this constant of making it harder on the kid
- 6:35Speaker 1: than it needs to be, when all you're supposed to
- 6:37Speaker 1: do as an organization when you have a young quarterback
- 6:40Speaker 1: is make it as easy for that quarterback as possible,
- 6:42Speaker 1: and every sale, single step of the way, they just
- 6:45Speaker 1: make it as hard for him as they possibly can. No,
- 6:48Speaker 1: but you're right, But I'm just saying like, if he
- 6:50Speaker 1: does come out mentally ready and he's ready to go
- 6:53Speaker 1: and it's it's all good that way, then boy, did
- 6:57Speaker 1: he pass a big test, you know? Or did he
- 7:00Speaker 1: I'm just kind of like, Yeah, why why we're so
- 7:02Speaker 1: interested in Maybe I think he just played choice of
- 7:06Speaker 1: word test is a wrong. He's just proving to people
- 7:10Speaker 1: that he can handle this stuff and forget about the
- 7:12Speaker 1: word test. I just feel like if you look at
- 7:14Speaker 1: the look at the success stories around the league of
- 7:18Speaker 1: quarterbacks that weren't instantly great. Like I'm not talking about
- 7:21Speaker 1: guys like Patrick Mahomes that just dropped into the league
- 7:23Speaker 1: and we're just instantly stars, but guys that have developed,
- 7:26Speaker 1: oh Josh Allen to like you know, Jalen hurts. It
- 7:30Speaker 1: was all it was always with kid gloves, right, Like
- 7:33Speaker 1: they're always setting these guys up. They're being nice, they're
- 7:36Speaker 1: saying the right things in the media, they're getting them
- 7:38Speaker 1: the right coaching, they're getting them the right supporting cast,
- 7:41Speaker 1: and every step of the way, this team has just
- 7:43Speaker 1: done the opposite for him. Like they just have done
- 7:46Speaker 1: the total opposite. And I don't know if Mac Jones
- 7:48Speaker 1: is going to be good or not, or is good
- 7:50Speaker 1: or not. I still the jury is still out on
- 7:52Speaker 1: all of that. But in terms of how to handle it,
- 7:56Speaker 1: it's been blown to bits after the past calendar. There's
- 8:00Speaker 1: no doubt. There's no doubt. I mean, you know, starting
- 8:03Speaker 1: with you know, just what they decided to do last offseason.
- 8:07Speaker 1: I mean, it was just it was a disservice to
- 8:10Speaker 1: him and everybody else on the offense. Frankly, you know,
- 8:14Speaker 1: not just Mac, but anyone else that had to play
- 8:16Speaker 1: offense for the Patriots. It just wasn't a good setup.
- 8:19Speaker 1: I like, I'm I took the biggest mia copa. I thought,
- 8:23Speaker 1: why not good coaches, head coaches in the league. I
- 8:27Speaker 1: was absolutely wrong. Particularly you know, I think position coaching,
- 8:31Speaker 1: I think you can move over. But coordinator. You've never
- 8:35Speaker 1: done that before, or coach a quarterback, never done that before.
- 8:38Speaker 1: I don't think it works. And it didn't. It absolutely
- 8:41Speaker 1: didn't work, and I was wrong. It was a disaster.
- 8:46Speaker 1: And you know, the biggest thing that came out that
- 8:49Speaker 1: I thought, not biggest, but one of the most revealing
- 8:52Speaker 1: things was that Pro Football talk about the dysfunction between
- 8:55Speaker 1: Bill and Mac and that we all read that Mac
- 8:58Speaker 1: had reached out to get help last year and Bill
- 9:02Speaker 1: wasn't happy about that. Turns out he was reaching out
- 9:05Speaker 1: to Alabama, according to the report, and that's where he
- 9:08Speaker 1: was looking to get help. And I can just see
- 9:11Speaker 1: the phone call Nick Saban call him Bill, you know
- 9:13Speaker 1: what your quarterbacks calling for? Bill? Just you know another thing,
- 9:17Speaker 1: that another thing. I don't understand what the problem is.
- 9:20Speaker 1: So he called coaches that he's worked with in the
- 9:22Speaker 1: past that he trusts, that he feels are good about.
- 9:26Speaker 1: And that's a that's a problem. But think about Bill,
- 9:29Speaker 1: think about it. I'm done thinking about I know, but
- 9:32Speaker 1: thinking we're just we're every single thing. I'm not saying.
- 9:36Speaker 1: I'm just saying. I'm not saying in order to defend
- 9:40Speaker 1: anyone here. I'm just saying, think about a head coach
- 9:43Speaker 1: like Bill finds out that his quarterback is calling his
- 9:47Speaker 1: college team for help. Yeah, calling Bill O'Brien, who happens
- 9:52Speaker 1: to have been here before. But Bill, But for Bill
- 9:55Speaker 1: or any head coach, that's a reflection on him and
- 9:58Speaker 1: his assist or his organization that he's set up that
- 10:02Speaker 1: my quarterback has to call his his former college I
- 10:06Speaker 1: get help. That's that's that's that's a blow to an ego.
- 10:09Speaker 1: But when but when Tom Brady had some mechanical issues
- 10:15Speaker 1: in season and he called up Tom House and he said, Tom, like,
- 10:18Speaker 1: I need you to I need you to come for
- 10:20Speaker 1: the week because I think about the difference there. Evan,
- 10:24Speaker 1: you're talking about my but that's but think about it.
- 10:28Speaker 1: But no, really you need to look at the details.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Tom is working on his own mechanics, okay, Mac is
- 10:37Speaker 1: working on the system that he's being taught here. It
- 10:40Speaker 1: wasn't I'm having trouble throwing the ball. I'm having trouble
- 10:42Speaker 1: with the offense. They're trying to teach me. They're not
- 10:45Speaker 1: doing it right. Can you help me here? Because they're
- 10:48Speaker 1: not teaching that's different. It's completely different. I understand where
- 10:52Speaker 1: you're coming from. I Just where I'm coming from is
- 10:54Speaker 1: that if you feel if all of this is, if
- 10:57Speaker 1: we take all of this at face value, what he said,
- 10:59Speaker 1: Bill has said publicly this report this morning, at their shot,
- 11:02Speaker 1: get rid of him and move on. Like, if you
- 11:04Speaker 1: really feel this strongly that this is not working out,
- 11:07Speaker 1: then all we're you're doing or is wasting time by
- 11:10Speaker 1: hanging on to the kid. So draft Henn and Hooker,
- 11:13Speaker 1: or trade up and go and get Anthony Richardson, or
- 11:17Speaker 1: bake a move for Lamar Jackson, or whatever the case
- 11:20Speaker 1: may be. But could part of it also be in
- 11:22Speaker 1: Bill's mine? You know what I did screw up? You know,
- 11:25Speaker 1: he doesn't deserve to be let go. I did screw up,
- 11:29Speaker 1: you know, not screw up, but it was a failed experiment,
- 11:33Speaker 1: you know, and it did didn't put the kid in
- 11:35Speaker 1: the best opportunity to win, which is kind of Bill's mantrap,
- 11:39Speaker 1: putting players in the best opportunity to succeed. He didn't
- 11:43Speaker 1: do that. So, like to give up on the guy
- 11:46Speaker 1: right now is not fair. Well, I don't know if
- 11:49Speaker 1: you guys are I don't want to do no, no,
- 11:51Speaker 1: but I just wanted to tie it to the earlier
- 11:53Speaker 1: report this morning from Pro Football Talk, which was that
- 11:56Speaker 1: tension lingers between Bill Belichick and Mac Jones and like,
- 11:59Speaker 1: to every anybody's point, do the Bill Belgium move on?
- 12:03Speaker 1: Like get like we got to bury last season, like
- 12:05Speaker 1: you know, and for this to still be now, I
- 12:08Speaker 1: don't know this this can be you know, Oh, he
- 12:10Speaker 1: was kind of pissed at him as he still pissed
- 12:12Speaker 1: what Tommy. I think this is all kind of stem
- 12:14Speaker 1: from what Tommy Kern had reported, you know, over last week.
- 12:17Speaker 1: But at what point are we just going to move
- 12:19Speaker 1: on and stop rehashing what happened? And it still feels like,
- 12:23Speaker 1: you know, the trade thing is like you're still kind
- 12:25Speaker 1: of holding last year over him if I didn't like
- 12:27Speaker 1: how you handled it. So are we on to the
- 12:29Speaker 1: next or are we still kind of living in that season?
- 12:32Speaker 1: So I don't know. I just I think you need
- 12:34Speaker 1: to bury this season. I don't I don't need I
- 12:36Speaker 1: don't need him to come out and say Max my
- 12:37Speaker 1: guy where you know, I get that part of it,
- 12:39Speaker 1: But at the same time, like that there needs to
- 12:42Speaker 1: be some kind of support for this kid. I feel
- 12:43Speaker 1: like at that line later you get that part of
- 12:47Speaker 1: it that he won't just say he's got well he
- 12:49Speaker 1: always want that in the past. Yeah, yeah, No. I
- 12:51Speaker 1: guess what I'm trying to say is that I understand
- 12:53Speaker 1: if he feels like Mac needs to be better and
- 12:56Speaker 1: that he needs to take steps to you know, get
- 12:58Speaker 1: him in line a little bit. But but it's just
- 12:59Speaker 1: a stream at this point, and it feels punitive. It's
- 13:02Speaker 1: not relevant not I do want to get to that later,
- 13:04Speaker 1: because there was something I read over the weekend that
- 13:06Speaker 1: sort of sparked that. But so this this report now
- 13:09Speaker 1: today about potentially Bill shopping Mac, like the timing. Do
- 13:16Speaker 1: you think it's something that happened a while ago or
- 13:20Speaker 1: do you think it's something that it might be sort
- 13:24Speaker 1: of ongoing? And here's like I just I keep thinking
- 13:29Speaker 1: of Evans thing that you know you had late in
- 13:31Speaker 1: the season, Like is it going to cost two second
- 13:34Speaker 1: round picks to get Aaron Rodgers? And is that completely
- 13:38Speaker 1: out of the realm of possibility that Bill swoops in
- 13:40Speaker 1: and does something like that? And that's what you know,
- 13:42Speaker 1: maybe this is kind of a new thing. I don't know,
- 13:46Speaker 1: it's probably not related at all to that. It's probably
- 13:49Speaker 1: something that happened before, Like why would you be shopping
- 13:52Speaker 1: him to the Raiders after they signed, So that makes
- 13:55Speaker 1: no sense. So it's probably old. But if you're a
- 13:58Speaker 1: but if it is true, if it is true and
- 14:01Speaker 1: you wash shopping, you have some type of plan, like
- 14:04Speaker 1: you have something like if we do do a trade,
- 14:06Speaker 1: here's my plan to have a quarterback for twenty twenty three.
- 14:10Speaker 1: You know. So, whether it's Lamar Jackson or Harron or
- 14:13Speaker 1: somebody else, they've got to be thinking if if this
- 14:16Speaker 1: is true, what is the plan if it succeeds, if
- 14:21Speaker 1: I do am able to move them? But I don't
- 14:23Speaker 1: you know who knows it's I don't know what I
- 14:26Speaker 1: just say, do said what I am trying to say
- 14:29Speaker 1: in a much nicer way because I'm just fed up
- 14:31Speaker 1: with this BS. But the point is is that you
- 14:35Speaker 1: are at the point now the off season where there's
- 14:38Speaker 1: a probably a ninety percent chance that Mac Jones is
- 14:41Speaker 1: your quarterback next year. Move the heck on. That's enough
- 14:45Speaker 1: about two. I agree with Evan on that, like Bill
- 14:48Speaker 1: needs to do it. So I've been critical of Mac,
- 14:50Speaker 1: but I think Bill needs to say, Okay, you know
- 14:54Speaker 1: I did this wrong. You didn't handle it right. That
- 14:56Speaker 1: was last year, right? Isn't it always the way? It's better.
- 14:59Speaker 1: It's not about what you've done, it's what you're doing now.
- 15:01Speaker 1: You don't think he'll do that or he I don't
- 15:03Speaker 1: think he has shown any signs of doing it. Not
- 15:05Speaker 1: for Mac, but I think he has kind of done
- 15:06Speaker 1: it for Jack Jones and Jake Bailey when he was
- 15:08Speaker 1: asked at the end. I know Jake Bailey got released.
- 15:10Speaker 1: I agree, but you know they asked him about Jack Jones.
- 15:13Speaker 1: It's in the past now. I mean he's addressed both
- 15:15Speaker 1: those things in that similar way. Now, this isn't Bill
- 15:17Speaker 1: Belichick coming out. This is a report, you know, from
- 15:19Speaker 1: from Pro Football Talk. But still it's but just like
- 15:22Speaker 1: you know, back to where we were sort of chuckling
- 15:25Speaker 1: before the show, it kind of seems like that's the way,
- 15:27Speaker 1: like the whole tension thing. And Chris Gasper wrote a
- 15:30Speaker 1: call him in the Boston Globe today, you know, same
- 15:33Speaker 1: kind of thought process. The camps don't seem to be
- 15:37Speaker 1: aligned between Robert and Bill, and I think part of
- 15:41Speaker 1: that is the handling of Mac, you know, and I
- 15:44Speaker 1: kind of agree with Evan's point. I don't know exactly
- 15:47Speaker 1: what's going on in Bill's mind because he doesn't let
- 15:49Speaker 1: a lot of us know what's going on in his
- 15:51Speaker 1: mind more often than not. But from the outside looking in,
- 15:54Speaker 1: it certainly seems like he's continuing to sort of hold
- 15:58Speaker 1: his quarterback at arm's length, not necessarily embrace him in
- 16:01Speaker 1: any way. There's no Jack Jones like that was. That's
- 16:05Speaker 1: in the past, right, And you know, the one thing
- 16:09Speaker 1: that I sort of alluded to about this whole he
- 16:12Speaker 1: won't declare him the starting quarterback. And this notion that
- 16:16Speaker 1: Bill doesn't do that, that's to meet complete fiction. And
- 16:19Speaker 1: back in two thousand and one, he definitively declared Brady
- 16:23Speaker 1: his quarterback for the foreseeable future after that loss to
- 16:25Speaker 1: the Rims because he thought that was in the best
- 16:28Speaker 1: interests of the team. Right. He then traded Bledsoe in
- 16:31Speaker 1: the offseason, So that was it. So from two thousand
- 16:33Speaker 1: and two, I'm going to say until twenty fourteen, there
- 16:36Speaker 1: was never another reason to ask the question, is Tom
- 16:39Speaker 1: Brady your quarterback? Then he drafted Garoppolo in the second
- 16:43Speaker 1: round and made the comments about his age and his
- 16:46Speaker 1: contract status. Right go to Week four of that season
- 16:49Speaker 1: again Kansas City, when it all fell apart. That was
- 16:53Speaker 1: probably the first time that he was ever asked since
- 16:55Speaker 1: Brady was the name of the starter. Is the quarterback
- 16:58Speaker 1: being evaluated? How that go over? He laughed at He
- 17:01Speaker 1: laughed at it, right, So don't tell me he doesn't
- 17:04Speaker 1: declare his quarterback. Right, and we all know about Cam
- 17:07Speaker 1: Newton throughout the twenty twenty season. Yep, this is different.
- 17:11Speaker 1: This is the anomaly. Everybody's sort of acting like the
- 17:13Speaker 1: Cam Newton thing was the anomaly. It wasn't. Quarterback is different. Well,
- 17:19Speaker 1: he has been willing to say that this is my
- 17:21Speaker 1: starting quarterback and for whatever reason, he's not willing to
- 17:24Speaker 1: say that now. Yeah, either move on from Mac or
- 17:28Speaker 1: move on from last season. You can't this. Yeah, every
- 17:32Speaker 1: single time he's asked about Mac Jones, like at the
- 17:34Speaker 1: owner's meetings last week, the smug look on it, you
- 17:38Speaker 1: can tell, you can just see it all, you know, Well,
- 17:42Speaker 1: it does smell of a power struggle, like you know
- 17:46Speaker 1: where Bill he's not gonna give in, like like his
- 17:50Speaker 1: action bringing in Bill O'Brien says, yeah, we're last year
- 17:55Speaker 1: wasn't right. We're gonna make We're gonna make that right.
- 17:57Speaker 1: So there's an admittance there, but he's not gonna publicly
- 18:00Speaker 1: do it because I'm the head coach. Damn it, you're
- 18:04Speaker 1: the quarterback who's been in the league two years. I'm
- 18:09Speaker 1: there's no way that I am going to bend over
- 18:13Speaker 1: for you. I'm sorry, but I'm the head coach of
- 18:15Speaker 1: this football team and what I say goes and that's it.
- 18:20Speaker 1: That's it, And I would hope that message got delivered.
- 18:23Speaker 1: And I mean, it's just it's these things keep getting
- 18:25Speaker 1: drummed up right now. And I think it's also just interesting,
- 18:28Speaker 1: like you know, Paul brought up the past, I mean
- 18:30Speaker 1: the time we're in now too, especially with kid like
- 18:33Speaker 1: Mac in his twenties, like they're all over social media,
- 18:36Speaker 1: you know, right now his phone is blowing up with
- 18:38Speaker 1: this report where you know, maybe in the past, and
- 18:40Speaker 1: I'm not trying to draw a comparison, I'm just it's
- 18:42Speaker 1: a lot harder now. But in the past, did you
- 18:45Speaker 1: read the Globe this morning? You know, like, did you
- 18:47Speaker 1: like it's that's how you'd have to go to find
- 18:48Speaker 1: these things. And now it's all getting thrown at him.
- 18:50Speaker 1: In this era, there's much more sensitivity on the part
- 18:54Speaker 1: of the year of the athletes, right, so it seems
- 18:58Speaker 1: that way there would be even more of a and
- 19:00Speaker 1: to sort of publicly endorse your guy, then then there
- 19:03Speaker 1: would have been And he's always like I said, like
- 19:05Speaker 1: I I just bristle, Like there are some people that
- 19:08Speaker 1: claim that Bill never does that he's staying consistent with
- 19:12Speaker 1: the way he's always been. I don't think this is
- 19:14Speaker 1: consistent with what he's done at quarterback. You know, maybe
- 19:18Speaker 1: he talks about it's open competition at spot, you know,
- 19:21Speaker 1: like that line about Bailey Zappy um from that from
- 19:26Speaker 1: Arizona and from the from the meetings about you know,
- 19:30Speaker 1: you know, we look forward to competitionyone's going to get
- 19:33Speaker 1: a chance. Everyone's going to have a chance to compete.
- 19:35Speaker 1: And I also thought it was interesting that Mike Reese
- 19:37Speaker 1: had a little line in his notes on Sunday indicating
- 19:41Speaker 1: that Zappy was getting more first team reps late last
- 19:46Speaker 1: season in practice. Yeah, the only thing I would would
- 19:50Speaker 1: how would a writer know that? Well, the only thing
- 19:53Speaker 1: I would say, you're not allowed to watch practice, you know.
- 19:56Speaker 1: The only thing I would say Paul about you know
- 19:58Speaker 1: Bill is you know, people say Bill has never done that,
- 20:00Speaker 1: you're saying he has when it comes to the quarterback.
- 20:03Speaker 1: For whatever reason, Tom Brady and Giselle got it in
- 20:07Speaker 1: their head that Bill doesn't give Brady enough respect, you know, yeah,
- 20:13Speaker 1: all right, and and so, but but it was never
- 20:15Speaker 1: a question of whether or not he was the starting quarterback. No,
- 20:17Speaker 1: but as the starting quarterback. One time someone asked him
- 20:20Speaker 1: if he was the starting quarterback. He laughed at yeah,
- 20:22Speaker 1: but my poor Mike Giardi. But you know, we got
- 20:25Speaker 1: the reports of you know, he treats he treated Brady
- 20:27Speaker 1: the same way, and you know, all that stuff. For
- 20:29Speaker 1: whatever reason, Brady had it in his mind that this
- 20:33Speaker 1: guy doesn't respect me enough, you know. So yeah, I
- 20:36Speaker 1: mean I was just I mean, not to get all
- 20:38Speaker 1: us weekly, but like my brain kind of goes to
- 20:40Speaker 1: his girlfriend, Sophie, who I imagine, like you know, like
- 20:43Speaker 1: my spouse, if someone was critical of me in some way,
- 20:46Speaker 1: I hate them. I just imagine she is so done
- 20:49Speaker 1: with this team. Probably right now, shap Drew's mother wanted
- 20:55Speaker 1: to really physically kill Bill. Absolutely, I believe, like that's
- 20:59Speaker 1: totally the way I could see it, the protective nature
- 21:02Speaker 1: of that kind of a relationship. And to me, Fred,
- 21:05Speaker 1: your your point is accurate about how he was always
- 21:09Speaker 1: tough on Tom, but that was his that was his performance,
- 21:12Speaker 1: Like he never let him get comfortable, and it also
- 21:16Speaker 1: really didn't become an issue. I don't think until he
- 21:18Speaker 1: drafted Garoppolo he took Garrappolo as a threat. Yeah, and
- 21:22Speaker 1: then he goes out and talks about we all know
- 21:24Speaker 1: the age in the contract status of of the quarterback.
- 21:27Speaker 1: I mean like that to me made it different. Well,
- 21:30Speaker 1: do you think that this is another branch of that
- 21:32Speaker 1: kind of tree of I'm gonna drop up Garoppolo and
- 21:35Speaker 1: then we're gonna you know, maybe it lights a fire
- 21:37Speaker 1: under Tom's ask, Maybe it doesn't. Maybe it just Jimmy's
- 21:39Speaker 1: better than him, you know, like, is this is this
- 21:42Speaker 1: something not the same, but is this a similar kind
- 21:45Speaker 1: of thinking of I'm not going to give him the
- 21:46Speaker 1: credit he's now gonna get. You know, if you had
- 21:48Speaker 1: to see it, I think he honestly felt at that
- 21:51Speaker 1: time that Brady didn't have I totally agree for you
- 21:54Speaker 1: know five you know you had to say, hand on
- 21:56Speaker 1: a bible. He drafted Garoppolo to set up fire under
- 22:00Speaker 1: Brady's ass or to replace Brady. What would you guess
- 22:05Speaker 1: I would go with Fredy. Yes, I think he thought
- 22:08Speaker 1: two sixteen or seventeen, Garoppolo is going to be my
- 22:12Speaker 1: quarter I need to start grooming a replacement. I think
- 22:14Speaker 1: he honestly felt that. That doesn't mean that I'm right,
- 22:18Speaker 1: but I don't think that he just drafted a guy
- 22:20Speaker 1: in the second round to sort of motivate Yeah, Brady,
- 22:23Speaker 1: are you right now? That's what happened, right, I think
- 22:27Speaker 1: it's inarguable that that's that was the result of it.
- 22:30Speaker 1: It's another example of those things that I talked about
- 22:32Speaker 1: before the show that every once in a while, you
- 22:35Speaker 1: do something and no matter what, it just works out. Yeah,
- 22:37Speaker 1: and Brady looks like like it's replacement. I've got another
- 22:41Speaker 1: ten years, you know. He always said he did, and
- 22:44Speaker 1: he did. It's just, you know what, For me, it's
- 22:46Speaker 1: the mounting tension. And every training camp we go into
- 22:49Speaker 1: is exciting and has interesting things that I'm excited to see.
- 22:53Speaker 1: I'm not sure that I've ever really felt this way
- 22:56Speaker 1: about there's gonna be tension this year in camp of
- 22:59Speaker 1: who's playing, where, what's going you know, is the offense
- 23:02Speaker 1: clicking better than it didn't last year? I mean, of course,
- 23:04Speaker 1: this is you've missed the playoffs two out of the
- 23:06Speaker 1: last three years. Like that's all part of it. But
- 23:09Speaker 1: every new little thing that comes out I just feel
- 23:12Speaker 1: the tension around here getting you know, not specific to us,
- 23:15Speaker 1: of course, but just that outlook the summer, it's gonna
- 23:18Speaker 1: be it's gonna be a free for all. I unless
- 23:23Speaker 1: you know, there is like this trade thing is real,
- 23:25Speaker 1: or you know, and it happens. There's something. I really
- 23:28Speaker 1: think that Bill, before we see these guys out in
- 23:32Speaker 1: the field, they will move on. He'll throw some flowers
- 23:35Speaker 1: at Mac. I think, like, hell, like he's had a
- 23:36Speaker 1: great offseason. Whatever, we're excited. Yeah, whatever it is. Would
- 23:40Speaker 1: like the first ota we're out there and he's just
- 23:42Speaker 1: like throwing food cage. I can imagine they will just guy,
- 23:48Speaker 1: you know, and they'll all be on the same page
- 23:51Speaker 1: by that comes out on his back like a piggyback,
- 23:53Speaker 1: like let's go by'll They'll all be on the same
- 23:55Speaker 1: page by May or you know, in a few weeks
- 23:59Speaker 1: when OTAs open up. I can't wait for those. I
- 24:03Speaker 1: had the internal optimism of Fred. That's all. That's all
- 24:07Speaker 1: I gotta say. I never know, I gotta tell you
- 24:09Speaker 1: normally I'm with Fred on those kinds of things that
- 24:11Speaker 1: always seem to work out. I think there are issues.
- 24:14Speaker 1: I think there are issues inside the structure, and I
- 24:17Speaker 1: don't think they're gonna get fixed overnight. I just no
- 24:20Speaker 1: longer have that trust. Like once upon a time we
- 24:24Speaker 1: all and Bill we trust is the old hashtag, But
- 24:27Speaker 1: we all just thought and knew in our heart of
- 24:30Speaker 1: hearts that he would do the right thing and that
- 24:33Speaker 1: they would figure it out. The only way I don't,
- 24:35Speaker 1: I don't I live like that anymore. The only the
- 24:37Speaker 1: only way it won't work is if Mac has really
- 24:40Speaker 1: made up his mind that I hate this place. Yeah,
- 24:43Speaker 1: you know, he's been here almost every day working out,
- 24:46Speaker 1: so he's got to look at his phone and see, oh,
- 24:48Speaker 1: they almost traded me. So I just gotta admit, I
- 24:52Speaker 1: just gotta believe that Bill will have this sit down
- 24:55Speaker 1: if it hasn't happened already. Like you know, Mac, last
- 24:59Speaker 1: year sucked, I admit it. It's gonna be better this year.
- 25:02Speaker 1: O'Brien's here. You know, we're gonna you know, we're gonna
- 25:06Speaker 1: be okay. Let's let's we're on to twenty twenty three.
- 25:10Speaker 1: And that's why, Like I think that that might be possible,
- 25:12Speaker 1: Like I think that there's it's possible that Mac knows
- 25:14Speaker 1: the real story. They've had it, you know, but I
- 25:17Speaker 1: still think of like a person like his girlfriend Sophie,
- 25:19Speaker 1: who is going to see these things, and like, you know,
- 25:21Speaker 1: when you try to explain things at work to your
- 25:23Speaker 1: spouse and you're like, no, no, it's no, it's not
- 25:25Speaker 1: it's fine, I know, and it's well, it doesn't seem
- 25:28Speaker 1: like it to me. You know. That's and that's a
- 25:30Speaker 1: voice in his ear, and it's it's hard. It's a
- 25:32Speaker 1: hard balancing act. And I just I wonder where his
- 25:35Speaker 1: headspace really is right now. I'm sure he's doing all
- 25:38Speaker 1: the right things in terms of working out and you know,
- 25:40Speaker 1: getting his body in shape, and you know, I hopefully
- 25:43Speaker 1: his mind is ready to go and is focused on
- 25:45Speaker 1: this season because it's it's it's challenging. But I was
- 25:47Speaker 1: gonna ask you having to do like what are the like,
- 25:49Speaker 1: what where did you go out on Bill? Was it
- 25:51Speaker 1: just last year with the offense, it was just the
- 25:53Speaker 1: Maddie pe thing last year, or was it kind of
- 25:55Speaker 1: like I mean, I assume that there's been a few
- 25:56Speaker 1: different things for you that have kind of I mean,
- 25:59Speaker 1: especially I would probably guess that Nikkil Harry would be
- 26:01Speaker 1: would be probably a pretty big strike in your book
- 26:03Speaker 1: on him too. But what else, what else is it?
- 26:06Speaker 1: That's it? You got number one. The first thing was
- 26:09Speaker 1: draft night twenty nineteen when you drafted nickil Harry over
- 26:13Speaker 1: DK Metcalf and deebo set we don't have to do
- 26:15Speaker 1: this again twenty nineteen Draft night. That was strike one.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Strike two was forcing Brady out. That was strike two.
- 26:24Speaker 1: And I would say strike three is a culmination of
- 26:27Speaker 1: the last three seasons of watching them just basically rebuild
- 26:35Speaker 1: and only one person's mindset as the right way to
- 26:39Speaker 1: rebuild and not really not just not do enough to
- 26:45Speaker 1: make this team better. And then the final nail on
- 26:47Speaker 1: the coffin was was the whole thing last year? Like Patricia,
- 26:51Speaker 1: that was And I'm not saying that I'm like out
- 26:53Speaker 1: on Bill, like you know that you know, should be
- 26:56Speaker 1: fired or anything like that, but that was the point
- 26:58Speaker 1: where I no longer trusted Bill to do the right thing,
- 27:01Speaker 1: and I no longer I became a skeptic then, because
- 27:05Speaker 1: before that, I mean, he could do no wrong in
- 27:07Speaker 1: my eyes. Strange Pick probably too that one, yeah, oh yeah,
- 27:09Speaker 1: Cole strange Pick, Yeah, add that to it. Just a
- 27:13Speaker 1: laundry list of things that he's done since basically twenty nineteen.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Where we are now at the point where he no
- 27:19Speaker 1: longer has the benefit of the doubt for me, Like
- 27:22Speaker 1: now you're you're proving yourself all over again to to
- 27:26Speaker 1: me like that really matters. But yeah, that's where I'm at,
- 27:31Speaker 1: all right. So it's a lot. Yeah, it's a lot.
- 27:34Speaker 1: I mean about the draft though, I mean that's exciting. Yeah. Well, okay,
- 27:37Speaker 1: so last night, um at the Red Sox game, Uh
- 27:41Speaker 1: and Smith and Jing the Jing perfect his brother is
- 27:49Speaker 1: on the Pirates and um brothers a big dude. Yeah
- 27:53Speaker 1: for baseball player. Yeah, so he Jackson Smith and Jigbo's
- 27:56Speaker 1: at Fenoy last night with the Red Sox. Guess where
- 27:59Speaker 1: he's not coming here. He's already here, Like you don't
- 28:04Speaker 1: even need to pay for the flight. He already came
- 28:07Speaker 1: on his own right. But he did say when they
- 28:10Speaker 1: interviewed him that they treated me really well. Yeah, the
- 28:14Speaker 1: people at Fenway treated him really well. Okay, he's not
- 28:17Speaker 1: coming to meet with the Patriots. When I don't pay
- 28:21Speaker 1: attention to the social media as much, I just assumed
- 28:25Speaker 1: that he was here for a visit and coincided with playing. Nope,
- 28:31Speaker 1: total total, he is. He is not here to meet
- 28:37Speaker 1: with anybody with the Patriots and you know that was
- 28:40Speaker 1: here though? Wow was he? Is that a joke? Well,
- 28:44Speaker 1: we did have him for a tryout. All you gotta
- 28:47Speaker 1: do is send an uber for the kid and bring
- 28:51Speaker 1: him in. You're allowed thirty visits. Yes, okay, so what
- 28:55Speaker 1: if you were what if the books written on this guy?
- 28:57Speaker 1: You know he's he's available, will take him. I don't
- 29:01Speaker 1: need him here, I would talk to I would prefer
- 29:03Speaker 1: to meet with the top wide receiver in the draft
- 29:05Speaker 1: when it might be the biggest need on my board,
- 29:08Speaker 1: and he also might just happen to be the best
- 29:09Speaker 1: player the board. Yeah, but like that, those are the
- 29:14Speaker 1: ten minute conversations. Okay, but maybe they they've the research
- 29:18Speaker 1: is in on him, and maybe they don't need to
- 29:20Speaker 1: see him again. You know, maybe I don't know. I
- 29:24Speaker 1: I mean they have. They're having Jordan Addison here tomorrow.
- 29:28Speaker 1: He's coming in for a visit. Smoke screen and they've
- 29:32Speaker 1: obviously really get it, really gotten works. They've really gotten
- 29:36Speaker 1: to nose flowers throughout the whole process at the Shrine
- 29:38Speaker 1: Bowl and get things like that screen so you don't
- 29:41Speaker 1: have to waste. Then we go out at TCS TCUs
- 29:45Speaker 1: Pro Day and uh and Bill and macro are chumming
- 29:48Speaker 1: it up with Quentin Johnston. Fine, that stood out to me. Cool,
- 29:52Speaker 1: that stood out to me. Yeah, just because I don't think,
- 29:55Speaker 1: like I mean, when you see those guys all at Alabama,
- 29:58Speaker 1: all right, and I know that that there's guys that's
- 30:00Speaker 1: TCU two, But I don't know, I just go and
- 30:03Speaker 1: I know we feel similar about Johnston, but just seeing
- 30:06Speaker 1: them both there and they kind of had like these
- 30:07Speaker 1: little grins on their face, I don't know. I I
- 30:10Speaker 1: just I can't rule I can't rule that guy out
- 30:12Speaker 1: based on the interest that the guy that they take. Yeah,
- 30:17Speaker 1: because now this is this goes to a philosophical question
- 30:19Speaker 1: I've been wondering about. Is do you think that they're
- 30:22Speaker 1: continuing just to hammer We think defenses are getting small
- 30:26Speaker 1: and we want to go size. We want size. If
- 30:29Speaker 1: he played big, yeah, then I then I could hear that.
- 30:33Speaker 1: But he doesn't play like a six foot two receiver.
- 30:37Speaker 1: He plays like a five foot eleven receiver in a
- 30:39Speaker 1: six foot two receiver's body. You know when when you
- 30:42Speaker 1: watch him. In other words, he has good quickness and
- 30:45Speaker 1: he's no, he just doesn't play the ball down the
- 30:47Speaker 1: field like he doesn't take advantage of him. No, exactly. Okay,
- 30:51Speaker 1: so a lot of his catches down the field, he
- 30:54Speaker 1: let's get into his body instead of going up and
- 30:57Speaker 1: plucking it out of the air, like you know Davante
- 30:59Speaker 1: Park does on a contested cash down the sideline. He
- 31:02Speaker 1: one of his bigger concerns on film is that he
- 31:04Speaker 1: lets the ball come into his body and he doesn't
- 31:06Speaker 1: really attack the football in the air, so he doesn't
- 31:09Speaker 1: play to his size down the field. It just that
- 31:12Speaker 1: that that's you know, my feelings on him don't have
- 31:15Speaker 1: to but even not just to him. I mean, you know,
- 31:17Speaker 1: I'm talking about GHISICKI um, you know, even Juju to
- 31:21Speaker 1: an extent, like you know what I mean, it's just
- 31:23Speaker 1: they just don't really seem to care about the note
- 31:26Speaker 1: want to say, Zay Flowers. But the guys like that anymore,
- 31:29Speaker 1: you know, like they just don't really have an interest
- 31:31Speaker 1: everybody that they're looking. It's like it started when the
- 31:33Speaker 1: Keel Harry. You know. It's just and that's why I'm like,
- 31:36Speaker 1: why are they continuing? I think that this philosophy it
- 31:39Speaker 1: transcends the Maddy p offense. It seems like this is
- 31:42Speaker 1: and that's all that I could come up with was
- 31:44Speaker 1: just that they feel like the league is headed towards
- 31:47Speaker 1: smaller defensive backs and we want to go with size.
- 31:49Speaker 1: And I mean, this seems like what you're four or
- 31:51Speaker 1: five that they're trying to do it. It doesn't really
- 31:53Speaker 1: seem to work. But I just I have to come
- 31:55Speaker 1: up with a reason of why are they ignoring these
- 31:57Speaker 1: kind of players that we all see as the Patriot
- 32:00Speaker 1: it's kind of guys like you know, like is it anymore?
- 32:03Speaker 1: I don't know. I really don't know. I don't know
- 32:05Speaker 1: what they're looking at. It's a fair point. I just
- 32:07Speaker 1: there are way too many And Quinn Johnson might end
- 32:10Speaker 1: up being DK metcalf right, he might have being a
- 32:13Speaker 1: fantastic player, but there's just way too many parallels in
- 32:17Speaker 1: his game to Nikil Harry's game. And you just even
- 32:20Speaker 1: if it's just to avoid making the same mistake twice,
- 32:24Speaker 1: I just don't know how that ends up being your guy.
- 32:26Speaker 1: Even even if you think, oh, he's a lot, you know,
- 32:28Speaker 1: his feet are much quicker, he doesn't run like he's
- 32:31Speaker 1: in quicksand like this that, and you like you have
- 32:33Speaker 1: to you have to avoid making the same being a
- 32:36Speaker 1: error repeater right. I mean, how do you just go
- 32:39Speaker 1: right back down that road again? I just can't imagine that.
- 32:42Speaker 1: All right, five five Pats five hundred is the ACE ticket,
- 32:45Speaker 1: hut line, web radio at patriot dot com is email address.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Let's get to the phones. By the way, it's deuced.
- 32:51Speaker 1: It's Evan, it's Paul. It's me, No Tamara, no Alex
- 32:55Speaker 1: today because the cameras are off. Ryan's in New Jersey.
- 32:59Speaker 1: What's up? Good shot? Hey guys, Hey, good good to
- 33:03Speaker 1: have you aboard, Evan. Um, I got a couple of
- 33:06Speaker 1: things I want to vent on about Bell. So number
- 33:11Speaker 1: one is it seems like Bill has successfully this offseason
- 33:16Speaker 1: shifted the blame from his decision about Patricia to Mac.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Number two. You're gonna have to clarify that because how
- 33:27Speaker 1: is the fair point? How has he done that by
- 33:30Speaker 1: shopping Max? What are you talking about Patricia anymore? Bill's
- 33:33Speaker 1: never come out and said why he made the decision.
- 33:37Speaker 1: I've never heard him say it was a bad decision.
- 33:40Speaker 1: I did this. Well, his action says it was a
- 33:43Speaker 1: bad decision at people don't think it was his actually right, Well,
- 33:48Speaker 1: I mean whatever, But now Bill O'Brien is the offensive
- 33:52Speaker 1: coordinator and it's not Matt Patricia's. So if Bill thought
- 33:55Speaker 1: that that was the right decision, Matt Patricia would still
- 33:57Speaker 1: be the offensive coordinator here. Not necessarily, I can only
- 34:01Speaker 1: speak on what the actions. But if it was an
- 34:03Speaker 1: edict from above, if if if well, I know, but
- 34:06Speaker 1: let's let's look at some of the you know, circumstantial stuff,
- 34:10Speaker 1: like they put out a release saying they're going to
- 34:12Speaker 1: be looking for a new offensive co winner. If they've
- 34:14Speaker 1: ever done that before. No, but I mean maybe the
- 34:17Speaker 1: owner made you know, that was the owner's decision. But
- 34:19Speaker 1: I think that I think Bill realize that it didn't work.
- 34:23Speaker 1: I mean, you know, he's not I think he realized
- 34:26Speaker 1: it didn't work. But that doesn't necessarily mean he didn't
- 34:28Speaker 1: think it couldn't work. Yeah, if Mac would have just
- 34:30Speaker 1: gone on right, And I kind of agree with Ryan.
- 34:33Speaker 1: And this was like part of the story that Gasper
- 34:37Speaker 1: wrote today, the column that he had in The Globe
- 34:39Speaker 1: was that it it's sort of like a shifting between
- 34:42Speaker 1: Bill and Robert Kraft to sort of like absolve themselves
- 34:46Speaker 1: of responsibility for the you know, the the drop off.
- 34:49Speaker 1: And I think it's much more on the part of
- 34:51Speaker 1: Bill Um because Robert's just the owner. I'm like, he's
- 34:55Speaker 1: not doing all of these football decisions, you know. And
- 34:58Speaker 1: I do think that if these kinds of reports are accurate,
- 35:02Speaker 1: and that's a big if. I don't know if Florio's
- 35:04Speaker 1: report is accurate, but I think Ryan's right, And to
- 35:08Speaker 1: sort of extrapolate, if you're dangling your quarterback, you're sort
- 35:11Speaker 1: of trying to tell people, wasn't my fault. It wasn't
- 35:15Speaker 1: because I made Matt Patricia the offensive coordinator. This guy's
- 35:18Speaker 1: not any good. Yeah, that's why I'm trying to trade them.
- 35:20Speaker 1: If that's yeah, Okay, go ahead, Ryan, and ye so um.
- 35:27Speaker 1: The thing about Mac going outside the building, and I've
- 35:30Speaker 1: listened to a lot of people talking about it, and
- 35:32Speaker 1: everybody's got their point. But as a leader, at the end,
- 35:37Speaker 1: my question is, do you think Bill knew that Mac
- 35:42Speaker 1: and the offense weren't getting the answers that they needed,
- 35:46Speaker 1: or do you think in his mind the reason he
- 35:49Speaker 1: is mad is because hey, me and my coaching staff
- 35:53Speaker 1: were providing you guys everything, you don't get it? Or
- 35:58Speaker 1: do you think he said, you know, it just seems
- 36:00Speaker 1: to me that you know, he's and all bent out
- 36:05Speaker 1: of shape. But did he know that they were struggling?
- 36:08Speaker 1: And if he knew they were struggling, why shouldn't he
- 36:11Speaker 1: take any responsibility for it? Why couldn't he say? That's
- 36:14Speaker 1: on me. Max shouldn't have had to do that, that's
- 36:17Speaker 1: on me. It seems again like if he new and
- 36:20Speaker 1: just let it happen, that's horrible. If he didn't know,
- 36:25Speaker 1: that's even worse. I mean, I think he had to know.
- 36:30Speaker 1: I mean, if they were like a lot of execution issues.
- 36:32Speaker 1: There were just such sloppy football last year, so many
- 36:35Speaker 1: stupid mistakes over and over and poor situational awareness, just
- 36:39Speaker 1: things that you would put under other you know, just
- 36:43Speaker 1: on one occasion, you know, concussing one of them. I
- 36:45Speaker 1: don't know how you could look at that. I mean,
- 36:47Speaker 1: I like, I get execution stuff, all right, we had
- 36:49Speaker 1: the right play and this guy just did the wrong thing,
- 36:51Speaker 1: and that that's not a coaching thing. That's just a
- 36:53Speaker 1: player screwing up in the moment. But to me, there
- 36:55Speaker 1: were just too many issues. We just don't know the details.
- 36:58Speaker 1: You know, Bill could say, listen, you know you've got
- 37:03Speaker 1: to come to me. You come to me now. Maybe
- 37:06Speaker 1: Mac did and he didn't get the right answer, or
- 37:09Speaker 1: Build said he didn't have time whatever. I don't know,
- 37:12Speaker 1: but it also could be that he was just mad
- 37:14Speaker 1: that he didn't come to him with all these It's
- 37:17Speaker 1: also indicative of the two camps though, that have been created.
- 37:20Speaker 1: And this is why I'm with Evan and less optimistic
- 37:24Speaker 1: about the fixes than you are. Like so, like Mike said,
- 37:29Speaker 1: you can have mac Jones and you can look at
- 37:31Speaker 1: that and say, well, you know, he's he's taking the
- 37:34Speaker 1: bull by the horns. He knows there's a problem, and
- 37:36Speaker 1: he's trying to fix it. He's trying to figure out
- 37:38Speaker 1: ways that he can get about it. He's just trying
- 37:40Speaker 1: to improve. Or you can look at it from the
- 37:42Speaker 1: other camp and say, this is in subordination. This guy
- 37:46Speaker 1: is not loyal to our program and our coaches, and
- 37:50Speaker 1: he's not even given it a chance. And I'm not
- 37:52Speaker 1: telling you one of those is right or wrong. But
- 37:54Speaker 1: the two diametrically opposed camps. Sure, and that's an issue.
- 37:59Speaker 1: And I think that they play they'd like that all year. Yeah,
- 38:02Speaker 1: And that was the bigger point. Is this just there
- 38:04Speaker 1: was no buying, Like you could just tell buying. The
- 38:06Speaker 1: players had no buying, They had no trust that if
- 38:09Speaker 1: they did, like it's just if they did what the
- 38:10Speaker 1: coaches were prescribing to them. They I don't think they
- 38:13Speaker 1: believed that it would be successful. And I mean I
- 38:15Speaker 1: think the things remarkable to me is like you just
- 38:17Speaker 1: you go back to, like a lot of times we
- 38:19Speaker 1: like speculated these things. I go back to last summer
- 38:21Speaker 1: when we speculated Kendrick Bourne and where did he come from,
- 38:24Speaker 1: Kyle Shannon, you know, those kind of things, and at
- 38:26Speaker 1: the time you're like, I don't know. But in retrospect
- 38:28Speaker 1: now you start to put those dots together in your life.
- 38:31Speaker 1: And how do you think thinks about it? You know,
- 38:35Speaker 1: he's thinking that the coaching's there, the executions lacking. And
- 38:40Speaker 1: if you think that that's wrong, think about what another
- 38:44Speaker 1: comment that he made when you were out there, Mike
- 38:46Speaker 1: in Arizona about kmay Cord. Coach is not the problem.
- 38:50Speaker 1: Coaches the problem. In twenty twenty, we had best special
- 38:53Speaker 1: teams in the league. Okay, so the coaching didn't do
- 38:57Speaker 1: anything wrong last year to allow three kick returns for
- 38:59Speaker 1: a touchdown, a block punt and running into the punter,
- 39:03Speaker 1: that was largely responsible for you losing it. Like there
- 39:06Speaker 1: were a lot of breakdowns on special teams last year.
- 39:08Speaker 1: Coaching wasn't responsible for any of them. Yeah, because he was.
- 39:12Speaker 1: The special teams were good in twenty twenty, which, by
- 39:14Speaker 1: the way, resulted in like one great game when all
- 39:17Speaker 1: chef's got crazy against the Chargers. I mean, I don't know, Yeah,
- 39:24Speaker 1: we are we giving a chord credit for like Marcus
- 39:27Speaker 1: Jones returning a punt as time expires and that's like
- 39:31Speaker 1: proof that he's great or was it like a good block,
- 39:34Speaker 1: like a blocking scheme it was. I'm not like, I'm
- 39:37Speaker 1: not dismissing that ever it I'm not trying to be unfair.
- 39:41Speaker 1: But you have good blocking schemes and you get a
- 39:43Speaker 1: twenty five yard return, he took an eighty seven yards
- 39:45Speaker 1: or whatever it was touchdown to win a game. I
- 39:48Speaker 1: you know, I think Bill. Bill might be in a
- 39:50Speaker 1: tough spot, you know, because his decision didn't work, you know,
- 39:57Speaker 1: and it was a coaching decision, and so now he's
- 40:01Speaker 1: desperately trying to keep you know, the coaches together, and
- 40:05Speaker 1: so the last thing he wants to do is, you know,
- 40:08Speaker 1: be talking bad about about coaches right now, you know, um,
- 40:13Speaker 1: because he realizes that it's fragile. You know. I've I've
- 40:17Speaker 1: got to correct what happened last year, and I'm not
- 40:20Speaker 1: going to correct it by blaming coaches in public. Frank
- 40:23Speaker 1: can blame the players, well, you know, I whatever. But
- 40:28Speaker 1: I just think that he's he might be in a
- 40:30Speaker 1: difficult in his mind, he might be in a difficult situation.
- 40:34Speaker 1: I just think what's hard, too, is that it feels
- 40:36Speaker 1: like I'm want to say you're better than this, but like,
- 40:38Speaker 1: you know, these things, like you know all these like
- 40:40Speaker 1: a lot of this just seems so self inflicted when
- 40:44Speaker 1: you could you could avoid some of this drama and maybe,
- 40:46Speaker 1: you know, keep your quarterback at least focused on what's
- 40:50Speaker 1: going on here, here and now, rather than you know,
- 40:52Speaker 1: running the social media every twenty minutes to find out
- 40:55Speaker 1: what the latest is on how the Patriots feel about
- 40:57Speaker 1: about him. Like, I don't know, Bill, it's it's been
- 41:01Speaker 1: some head scratcher decisions. I mean, I like the draft
- 41:03Speaker 1: stuff we talked about people miss on draft picks, Like
- 41:05Speaker 1: I get it, it's it's you know, but last year,
- 41:08Speaker 1: to me, that doesn't happen, Like you don't decide to
- 41:11Speaker 1: stick guys that haven't done things before. And I mean
- 41:14Speaker 1: all I said last offseason was everything should be towards
- 41:17Speaker 1: Mac Jones, build around Mac Jones. We got to find
- 41:20Speaker 1: out about this kid. We're saying a lot of that
- 41:21Speaker 1: stuff now too. And maybe that's true on the field,
- 41:24Speaker 1: but off the field, I don't feel like they're doing
- 41:25Speaker 1: everything they can to make sure he's successful. I feel
- 41:27Speaker 1: like they're just piling stuff up against him and making
- 41:30Speaker 1: it harder. All right, Mike drop, there we go. Okay,
- 41:37Speaker 1: next cut, Fred looking at his watch. Next up is
- 41:41Speaker 1: Rashod in Baltimore. What's up, Rashad? Hey? What's up? Very rad? Hey? First,
- 41:48Speaker 1: I definitely got Evan hit everything on the nose and
- 41:51Speaker 1: he would talk about high fell out with Bill because
- 41:54Speaker 1: that's pretty much that's pretty much whast thought it, and
- 41:57Speaker 1: he pretty much at all the brother points the twenty
- 41:59Speaker 1: nineteen draft, and y'all can because y'all can correct me
- 42:02Speaker 1: if I'm wrong. But well, I know Lamar was in
- 42:05Speaker 1: that draft because I wanted Lamar, but was a J.
- 42:07Speaker 1: Brown in that draft. Lamar was twenty eight and I
- 42:12Speaker 1: and was the end of the draft. Lamar was twenty
- 42:15Speaker 1: but a J. Brown. He was Harry was with the
- 42:18Speaker 1: that was twenty nineteen largely considered one of the greatest
- 42:20Speaker 1: wide receiver drafts in recent memory, and I got the
- 42:23Speaker 1: only one who couldn't play, not the Laman Williams. I
- 42:27Speaker 1: didn't say, it was the only one that was a
- 42:28Speaker 1: really good receiver draft. I ended up being. Of course,
- 42:34Speaker 1: week we get the worst of the bunch, ye of
- 42:37Speaker 1: the high pack, and he's I mean, I don't think
- 42:38Speaker 1: he's in on a team now, and to kill by
- 42:40Speaker 1: the way. But but I'm saying all that to say,
- 42:42Speaker 1: I think you got the worst of the probably the
- 42:44Speaker 1: worst drafting receiver in that class, Perry. So I'm like,
- 42:48Speaker 1: maybe we can get you know, maybe we can get him,
- 42:50Speaker 1: but we got to kill. But he wanted to kill her.
- 42:53Speaker 1: So I'm like, you know, I didn't like it, but
- 42:56Speaker 1: it's Bill. And then Brady's on. He you know, he
- 43:00Speaker 1: didn't want Bred because that's what he wants, and he
- 43:02Speaker 1: didn't want Brady anymore. So I'm like, Okay, that's that's
- 43:05Speaker 1: that's my coach, you know, it's that's this decision. But
- 43:08Speaker 1: now you know, it's like, it's this is the third
- 43:10Speaker 1: It's just I mean, it's more than a third time
- 43:12Speaker 1: because it's twenty twenty three. But I'm I'm I'm I'm
- 43:16Speaker 1: done with Phil, and I'm and I'm trying to say,
- 43:18Speaker 1: like it is anybody bigger than the team? Like because
- 43:22Speaker 1: because Fred earlier, you would saying, you know, he's doing
- 43:24Speaker 1: stuff because he's the head coach. You know, he gotta
- 43:27Speaker 1: you know, tell Mac, you know, stuff like that. But
- 43:30Speaker 1: like what about you know, what about Max doing that
- 43:32Speaker 1: so he can be better for the team, Like like
- 43:35Speaker 1: what like what's more important his ego or the team?
- 43:39Speaker 1: So it's it's a lot of things with Bill, and
- 43:41Speaker 1: Bill was very stuck in his way. He's very stucking
- 43:44Speaker 1: with and I'm I'm I'm just I'm ready for I'm
- 43:47Speaker 1: ready for a change. I feel like Mac is not
- 43:50Speaker 1: getting a fair chance. He's pretty i mean, he pretty
- 43:52Speaker 1: much being set up to fail. And I don't really
- 43:55Speaker 1: think it's going to end well. I think I think
- 43:57Speaker 1: we wasting time. I think we really need to move
- 43:59Speaker 1: on because is he like is he the answer? Like all,
- 44:03Speaker 1: we're gonna keep doing this one two years, you know,
- 44:06Speaker 1: and we like to find another quarterback. Oh, welcome to
- 44:10Speaker 1: a lot of the NFL. I mean that's what happens,
- 44:13Speaker 1: you know, when we feared that it might um if
- 44:16Speaker 1: you don't find the guy right away, you get stuck
- 44:18Speaker 1: into this kind of purgatory quarterback purgatory. Even if he
- 44:23Speaker 1: wasn't the right guy. I feel like I feel like
- 44:25Speaker 1: everything that Bill has done has pretty much like pushed
- 44:29Speaker 1: him down, even if he wasn't the right guy. Thing
- 44:30Speaker 1: like he could have he could have been a better
- 44:32Speaker 1: quarterback if Bill would have If if Bill would have
- 44:35Speaker 1: just I don't know how to see it, but if
- 44:37Speaker 1: he would have just helped him more, like, you know,
- 44:41Speaker 1: it's just it just feel like Bill's ego is is
- 44:44Speaker 1: pretty much going to be the downfall of him, all right, thanks, Yeah.
- 44:49Speaker 1: I mean I think it got to be a power struggle,
- 44:51Speaker 1: and I think you know, it was a clash, and
- 44:54Speaker 1: you know, both sides dug their heels in during the season,
- 44:57Speaker 1: and you know, Bill just couldn't see himself, you know,
- 45:02Speaker 1: maybe making you know, uh, you know, exceptions for a
- 45:10Speaker 1: player of you know, of that status. You know. I
- 45:13Speaker 1: just I just think we're getting to the point where
- 45:15Speaker 1: there is now mounting evidence that Bill Belichick, the offensive mind,
- 45:22Speaker 1: might not be very good at coaching offense or knowing
- 45:25Speaker 1: offense in general. Defensively, no one has any you can't
- 45:29Speaker 1: question a single thing about that man on that side
- 45:31Speaker 1: of the football. But offensively without Tom Brady, whether it
- 45:38Speaker 1: was in Cleveland or it was here, it hasn't been
- 45:41Speaker 1: very good offensively for Bill without Tom Brady. And at
- 45:45Speaker 1: some point you have to look at not only how
- 45:49Speaker 1: he's handled this situation in terms of personalities, but just
- 45:52Speaker 1: in terms of talent, evaluation and overall just to you know, scheme, talent,
- 45:57Speaker 1: all those types of things. I just don't know. I
- 46:01Speaker 1: don't know where I'm at anymore with does does Bill
- 46:04Speaker 1: know what he's doing on that side of the football?
- 46:07Speaker 1: Chris and Scottsdale? What's up? Chris? Hey, guys, um, It's
- 46:11Speaker 1: always an interesting conversation. And I'm hoping you can hear me. Okay,
- 46:16Speaker 1: I have air pods, you know, if you can't, Yeah, okay.
- 46:19Speaker 1: It's always an interesting conversation when when we hear the
- 46:23Speaker 1: talk about Bill and uh, you know, sort of the
- 46:27Speaker 1: grasp on the team and control and so on and
- 46:30Speaker 1: so forth. And I've been kind of beating this drum
- 46:33Speaker 1: for for frankly years now, and for me, it was evident,
- 46:39Speaker 1: it was it was very clear. There was lots of evidence,
- 46:41Speaker 1: you know, to Evan Evans point, you know, with the
- 46:44Speaker 1: decision making, you know, with with the drafts and you know,
- 46:47Speaker 1: and so on and so on and free agency and
- 46:49Speaker 1: you know, we keep talking about it, but at some point,
- 46:54Speaker 1: you know, and and just to make a quick comment,
- 46:55Speaker 1: I don't kind of bouncing around a little bit here,
- 46:57Speaker 1: but a comment on the quarterback, you know, with Jones, Um,
- 47:01Speaker 1: I've really even though things have been unfair for him,
- 47:05Speaker 1: I don't really dig the way that like he's handled
- 47:09Speaker 1: the situation right in terms of leadership, you know, for
- 47:12Speaker 1: for an NFL team, you know, And he's a young guy,
- 47:15Speaker 1: and I can appreciate all that. And the pressure that's
- 47:18Speaker 1: put on the QB, which is what makes it such
- 47:22Speaker 1: a unique position in sports, is dramatic, right, And if
- 47:26Speaker 1: you don't have a guy that can be a leader,
- 47:29Speaker 1: you're done. So to sit here in toil and waste time.
- 47:32Speaker 1: It doesn't shock me that that he's been shopped around. Um.
- 47:37Speaker 1: But but to Evan's point, you know, and some of
- 47:40Speaker 1: the callers that have been, you know, expressing their frustration,
- 47:42Speaker 1: it's like when is enough? Is enough? Is enough? With Bill? Like,
- 47:46Speaker 1: I'm completely completely I've been kind of over it, but
- 47:50Speaker 1: I'm really feeling like there really needs to be an
- 47:52Speaker 1: outside change, you know, complete change, And I just want
- 47:55Speaker 1: to get your thoughts. Well, you know, we were always
- 47:57Speaker 1: warned that, you know, Bill's style works when you're winning,
- 48:01Speaker 1: but you know the test is when things aren't going well.
- 48:05Speaker 1: And I would just say, right, your record is who
- 48:08Speaker 1: you are, you know. I mean, look at his record
- 48:10Speaker 1: without Brady Man, I mean, look at it. Yeah, yeah,
- 48:13Speaker 1: I just I mean, I don't I don't really want
- 48:15Speaker 1: to defend mac Jones, but I also just would like
- 48:17Speaker 1: to say, in light of what we've learned about last season,
- 48:21Speaker 1: I have a little bit of a different perspective on
- 48:23Speaker 1: mac Jones's frustration and acting out. I'm not excusing it.
- 48:28Speaker 1: I didn't love it at the time, but I also
- 48:30Speaker 1: feel like Mac Jones probably went into a lot of
- 48:32Speaker 1: these games last year feeling like we don't really have
- 48:34Speaker 1: a chance right now, Like we don't really know what
- 48:36Speaker 1: we're doing. And I can't imagine what it's like to
- 48:39Speaker 1: go into an NFL game where you're you're putting a
- 48:41Speaker 1: lot on the line in those games to not have
- 48:43Speaker 1: full confidence in what you're about to do. What we
- 48:45Speaker 1: don't know is if Mac had handled it better, Yeah,
- 48:50Speaker 1: would Bill have been more accommodating to him and more
- 48:53Speaker 1: empathetic and more sympathy. I've said it all along. I
- 48:56Speaker 1: think both things can be true. I think I can
- 48:59Speaker 1: completely under stand his frustrations and not agree at all
- 49:05Speaker 1: with how we handled it. And to me, it's not
- 49:07Speaker 1: about once you get to like Thursday night football at
- 49:10Speaker 1: home against Buffalo and palms are in the air, you know,
- 49:13Speaker 1: what do we do? And right then you just that's
- 49:15Speaker 1: way too late to where I really would question mac
- 49:17Speaker 1: Jones is in June when he never allowed it to
- 49:21Speaker 1: even be a possibility of working. If that's true, right,
- 49:24Speaker 1: That's the way it looked. Yeah, that's the way. That's
- 49:26Speaker 1: what it sounded. That's the way his face looked. That's
- 49:29Speaker 1: the way he looked every day that we got to
- 49:31Speaker 1: talk to him in training camp. That's the way the
- 49:33Speaker 1: other offensive players looked when we got to talk to
- 49:35Speaker 1: them in training camp, some of which are leaders like
- 49:38Speaker 1: David Andrews, who know how to play and know how
- 49:41Speaker 1: to succeed. Yeah, so they just look like they never
- 49:45Speaker 1: ever bought at all. And if all this is true,
- 49:49Speaker 1: then there's blamed to be you know, given up. Both.
- 49:52Speaker 1: As I said, I think it's both both things. Can
- 49:54Speaker 1: be true. All right, let's take a break that we'll
- 49:57Speaker 1: continue to discussions. Food is here, so we're gonna eat
- 50:00Speaker 1: and paulod Thanks Mike. The network America relies on and

- 59:13Speaker 1: to the game. That's not a cross section of the people.
- 59:16Speaker 1: The people who call those shows, yeah, are almost entirely negative. Okay, Well,
- 59:20Speaker 1: because because I see you talking, you're talking about the people,
- 59:25Speaker 1: the media people, the people who cover the deaby. I'm
- 59:28Speaker 1: gonna have a round table in my living room. You
- 59:29Speaker 1: can come. We're gonna talk about Matt. Who else am
- 59:32Speaker 1: I are you listening to about this? I don't I
- 59:35Speaker 1: get about the media. This is talking at This is
- 59:38Speaker 1: not hard to understand. I'm not talking about the media.
- 59:40Speaker 1: Like Tom Curran said, you could trade Mac Jones over
- 59:44Speaker 1: Robert Craft's dead body two days ago. Right, like, so
- 59:47Speaker 1: he's accomplished so much, you don't we can't even broach

- 59:53Speaker 1: to deal for Mac. We can't even listen. Again, I
- 59:56Speaker 1: don't care what the media says. Okay, well that's the
- 59:59Speaker 1: only talking about the paying public. Okay, Well, you have
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: no way of knowing what the pay in public thinks.
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: I do when they call in the show that is
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: over the top negativity fred on Sports Radio, Come on,
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: I'm saying it's fifty fifty. It's not over the top.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: It's over the top negativity for the most part. The
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: hosts are about five minutes later. I gotta I gotta
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: find these Max super fans. I don't I don't haven't seen.
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: I don't seen a lot of them. They're not allowed allowed. Well,
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: he thinks that everybody's a Max superfan. Teflon Mackie called him. Okay,
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: I'm not talking about fans. I don't know why you
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: keep bringing up fans. I'm talking about the people who
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: cover the team. But who can you name me one
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: guy who covers the team that thinks that they should
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: move on from Mac Jones. I'd have to look, I'd
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: have to look at my notes. That's another great moment

- 1:01:03Speaker 1: so if y'all have already talked about this, please accept
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: my apologies. Read a story reporting that Tommy Current said
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: the apparent outside source that mac Jones was talking was
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: talking to was Brian Hoyer. The report painted his part true,
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: part opinion from Current, but wanted to get your thoughts
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: about this possible story and it being the cause for
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: Hoyer's release. No, okay, I think you're mixed up. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: go ahead. Yeah. I think that was two different things.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: One was that I didn't see him say that they
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: were talking in Alabama. But the Hoyer thing was that
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: Hoyer was on the same page as everybody, being like,
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: this is messed up, we don't know what we're doing.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: And then that's what they got rid of him for.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: And now he just signed with the Raiders, by the
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: way today, it was a two year deal, So I
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: don't know. I think they were just kind of conflating. Well,
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: it wasn't. It wasn't interesting because Howyer got the concussion
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: in the Packers game, right, and you never saw him
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: again gone forever. You never saw him again. We saw
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: him walking around and stuff. Yeah, never, never in uniform. Never.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: Current opined that the reason that he was never activated
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: again was because they were done with him, because, as
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: Mike said, he was on team Mac right in that
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: camp where the coaches didn't know what they were talking
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: about and he wasn't doing anything. They helped the situation,
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: which to me, Carrie's more way because Brian Hoyer has
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: been all over the place in this league and if
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: you know, no offense to Mac, but he's you know,
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: he's only ever been here. If you have a quarterback
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: who's been in multiple different systems, he's been in the
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: league for over twenty twelve years and that he's not
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: buying in like see, these are the things that like
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: do you not know? What's the coaches? Why? I don't.
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: I don't completely blame it all on Mac because I
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: think that they were right. I just don't think they
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: were right in the way they handled it and responded
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: to it. But I think they were right initially, and
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: you go back to that story that, you know, the
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: kind of postmodem that the Herald had with Andrew Callahan
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: and Karen and you know them talking about the number
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: of plays that were installed in training camp, even like
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: routine Monday and things that veterans like Brian Hoyer would say,
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: this isn't right. It's August fifteenth. We should be here
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: and we're only here, like there's something wrong. They know
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: when you're around an NFL team enough, you know we
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: know this Like every year when training camp starts, how
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: where did they start? Mike, Like, because we're not idiots,
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: we watch the plays. I don't know what every play
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: is called, but I watch how they start training camp
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: every year. And if all of a sudden they start
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: this year and there's like no red zone work, I'll
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: be like, wow, that's different. Well, I mean that's like
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: I mean, they said that point too, Like in my
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: notes that I took this year from the training camps,
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: like a lot of wide zone, Like they would just
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: come in and it would just be like a session
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: of just wide zone, right wide zone, left, wide zone,
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: right wide zone left. So a guy like Brian Hoyer,
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: to your point is he's gonna know like I know
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: this system, I know other systems. This is where we
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: should be. We're not doing the things to prepare for
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: the season. And I think even some of the guys,
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: the anonymous quotes in that story were like, we didn't
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: have enough plays to go into Miami. We didn't felt
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: like we had enough plays installed. And that just carries
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: Why is Brian Hoyer here right like? He's here because
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: he's an experienced quarterback that can be a sounding board
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: to Mac if you've lost that guy who also has
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: been plenty of time in New England, knows how Bill
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: Belichick is, knows how this works, knows probably the gravity
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: of what it's gonna you know, what's gonna go down
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: if he expresses dissatisfaction with his coaching that he's receiving, Like,
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: it's just to me, that carries a lot of weight,
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: a lot of weight. It's the one thing we can
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: all just say, Oh, it's just Mac being a whiny
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: second year kid and he doesn't want to do what
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: they want him to do. But you know, if it's
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: a veteran quarterback who's been around the block, has been
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: here plenty and he's not buying in. I think that
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: says a lot more too, and Karin opines that that's
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: why Hoyer was let go and they ate money to
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: do that. Yeah, it was like, what was their paying
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: him one point four million to not be here? Everything
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: that I was able to piece together throughout the season
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: was that it was really related to two different things
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: that in season I think the players felt was the
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: big is concerned. One was corrections. I think that they
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: felt like they weren't getting corrected and bad habits were
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: seeping in. I think this particularly point pointed to the
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: receivers right in the room where they're supposed to be
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: running around at at five yards and it's round to
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: get off at six, and no one's standing there saying, hey,
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: that's not that's not how we do it right, That's
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: that's not that's not how we're supposed to run this route.
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: And I think the second thing that was really unanimous
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: across the board in the offensive line room was the
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: past protection scheme and the way that they stripped down
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: Max tools, David Andrews's tools at the line of scrimmage
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: to sniff out blitzes and move protections and reset mic
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: points and things like that, and they felt like they
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: basically just called a protection in the huddle, got to
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: the line of scrimmage, snapped the football, and whatever happened
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: post snap happened post snap, and there wasn't a whole
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: lot Paul in between. Paul is pointing to NFL Now,
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: which is on our TV, which has Land zero Line's
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: latest mock draft, with the Patriots selecting Anthony Richardson quarterback
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: Florida at fourteenth overall, which is like, I mean, I
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: think that there now, that means the Patriots. If that happens,
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: the Patriots traded out. I know they're showing the Patriots logo,
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: but there's no way I think go back to a
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: place though, where like I think the max selection, I
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: think we're all like it's kind of a safe pick.
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: You know what, He's got a high floor, Like this
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: is what we're talking about, where you know Richardson, It's like,
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: wouldn't you rather see the greatest coach of all time
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: working with just a raw piece of me that could
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: be something amazing rather than like, let's just work with
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: Them's gonna say, I don't have any faith in the offense.
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: Douche touche, Let's go back to the phone eight five
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: five Pats five hundred, Williams and Philham. What's up? William?
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: Tell you Fred? How are you doing? All right? All
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: right again? All right? Man? The news? Uh? Um? So? Evan?
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: Uh so, why are you upset? Evan? I mean why
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: I knew that. I knew this was coming, Evan. I
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: mean you didn't see this coming. What do you mean
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: I didn't see this coming? Like you didn't see like well,
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: I mean the report if it's true, and when I
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: if mac is being traded or whatever the case may be.
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: My thing was, you know when he crossed that mind,
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: I knew it. Man. I just build when you don't,
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: when you ain't paid for to build, this is what
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: you get. I'm not surprised. I'm just I'm totally not
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: and I'm not gonna be surprised. But are you happy
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: with it? Yeah? And there's a difference between thank you no,
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: because then we ain't got a quarter bit. No. But
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: I mean you could say that you're not surprised because
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: but like, is that the proper reaction from a coach? No?
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: But I mean but it was No, it's not No,
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: it's I'm not happy about it. That's if that's time
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: downding to you, Paul. It's just the fact I knew
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: it though, you know what I mean, I knew since
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: since Mac trying to get information outside that organization. I
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: knew somewhere was going to happen. That's it. I didn't.
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: I didn't push it as much. I just said a
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: little bit to Paton. I said, I wouldn't be supplied
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: if Mac Jones get traded, and man, look, look divorce
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: were coming out. I don't think any of us are surprised. No.
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: I think we actually talked about it in January when
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: I think there was that room around the Senior Bowl
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: that that the Raiders might be potentially interesting. I mean, like,
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: I think that it's obvious the reasons or the I
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: don't think there's any shock factor in this report this morning.
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: I just think there's, from my point of view, disappointment
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: that this is this is what we're doing, and this
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: is how we're handling the situation. If it is true,
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: you know, obviously, So what can I tell you what next? Okay,
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: what's next? Kendrick Bourne might be next? You mean in
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: terms of being traded. Buddies out the door. Yeah, you
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: don't see it. Oh, Hunter, Henry still Hill, James Andrews
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: still here? Who Andrews Hunter, Henry Hunt anyway? I mean yeah,
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: I mean I'm just going about well his like Damian Harris,
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: Jakobe Meyers Mac now for some read but whatever. I
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: hope that don't happen, but yeah, because I mean he
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: goes to where else people have success and where I'm
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: guaranteed who is this? And I don't I don't know.
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: I'm just I don't know if the thing is faull no, Mike,
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: he mean, I just don't know what to think about
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: the team at this point. I'm just I'm my hands
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: was up in the air with it, like you know.
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: All right, Okay, William, thanks for the car, appreciate it.
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: Let's go to Todd and Greenville. What's up Todd? Hello?
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: Hello Todd? You guys here, you guys? Hello? Hear me? Yes,
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: hello Todd speak Sorry in the car. Car doesn't work. Well,
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: it's old like me. Okay. So I went to university
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: with this buddy of mine who's a big guts fan,
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: and I've convinced him a while back to listen to
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: your show. Story. Excellent. Well, here's the here's the moral.
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: Of the story. We're now the Jets unfiltered. We have
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: all the Jets problems, controversy with coaches, controversy with the players,
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: players not all buying in, everything going sideways. I think
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: it does. Mister Kraft's gonna have to step in and say, hey, guys,
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: you know that, Uh, that's got to stop. I think
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: it's got to come from him. I think the next
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: step right now, or mister Kraft doing intervention and before
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: the season starts. Well, we'll see Ian, Thanks Todd. I
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: I hope Bill doesn't need Robert Kraft to do that,
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: you know, I hope Bill does it himself. You know.
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: Let's go to Nash in Montana. What's up, Nash. Yeah,
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: it's going guys. Good. Hey, Hey, my my opinion on
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: this either way, I think it's time to wash your hands.
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: And we got a few more years of Bill, and
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: you can either run for a couple of years with
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: a disgruntled QV or a fifty year option, or just
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: get what you can now only still a little bit unknown,
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: gather some picks back and you can do one or
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: two things. You can go out and get something like
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: Hooker and play it young for a little bit, or
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: go get a gap and get a veteran for the
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: next cup of little bits? Who would you get? But
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: I mean, what could you get? I mean, you really
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: want to screw the Jets over toss that fourteen pick over,
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: But I doubt that time they go. But I'd say,
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: let's say if you could get if you can get
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: sixteen from Washington, swore Max and you toss in a
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: third rounder. You know, I don't know Washington's gonna give
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: us their sixteenth pick for mac Jones if you tossed
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: in the third round and we give them a third rounder,
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: no chance they're not gonna do it. Maybe not. But
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: if you can scape for second round pick back, I'd say,
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: pulled the tree. Disgruntled, We'll just wash your hands and
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: hope for the best next year. Yeah. No, I get
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: your point, like, it doesn't matter if you you know,
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: like you make the trade because you feel like there's
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: no chance it works if he's not on board, right,
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: he's disgruntled to use Nash's word, So you make the trade.
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: And then even if you have to plug in Bailey
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: Zappy and play the whole year with Zappy because you
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: don't have any other options. I'm not there. I want
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: to see. As much as I criticize Mac Jones, I
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: would like to see Bill O'Brien year three Mac Jones
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: and see if it, you know, looks better than the
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: rookie year. Yes, I don't need it too. I don't
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: want it to look like it looked rookie year. I
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: needed to be significantly better than that, yes, and I
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: want to see if it does. Especially if it does,
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: then I think you can, you know, move forward. Like
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: the overall passing statistics from last year's Patriots team to
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: rookie year very similar. Now, the offense was not anywhere
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: near as good. The red zone is the most glaring example.
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: They were the worst red zone team in football last year. Um,
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: I think Harris had like fifteen rushing touchdowns in twenty one.
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: They didn't have that. They didn't have anything like that.
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: So but if you combined mac Jones and Zappi from
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: last year to mac jones rookie year, it's not all
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: that different. It's not all that the numbers. That's why
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: I say mac Jones needs to be a lot better
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: than he was not last year. That's obvious. He needs
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: to be better than he was his rookie year, if
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: he's a third year guy that you're looking to invest
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: in going forward. I can't get I can't get Aaron
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: Rodgers out of my head right now. And you said
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: at the top of the show, no you did. I mean,
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: I mean in a like there's just something about that,
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: Like I always believe that Bill is intrigued by give
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: you a generation. Probably not, but let's have a little fun.
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: I just I could see him being intrigued by him.
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: And where I mean, it's just where's Bill now? He's
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: towards the end of his career. Shouldn't he be making
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: a move like that, Like, like if you were really thinking, like, man,
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: I got I don't have a lot of time left.
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: I don't want to spend that's a guy like I think.
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: That's the thing about this entire offseason that I just
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: can't wrap my head around is I don't necessarily think
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: that this is a terrible path to take in terms
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: of a long term rebuild. But your coach is seventy
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: years old, So like what's if you draft? If you
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: if you go to the draft and you say we
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: got to build through the draft and got to do
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: it that way. I agree with all of those philosophies.
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: I think that's the right way of doing it. But
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: those players are not going to step up into roles
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: where their star players leading this organization for another two years,
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: especially from this draft class. So like, how does that
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: fit the Bill Belichick timeline and every one of these
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: other stories that comes out about like trying to trade
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: Mac Jones, it just feels like you're continuing to kick
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: the can down the road, Like it's like, well, probably
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: not Mac. I don't like you don't have all this time.
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: There's no real like sense of urgency. It just feels
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: it's like no, you know, absolutely, it feels like a
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: coach that is sixty not seventy, and is like I
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: got another five at least five to ten years of
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: doing this and I'm going to build it long term
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: for long, long term sustain ability. But that's not the
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: world that that he's in. So I just from that
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: timeline and that that aspect, like, how is Aaron Rodgers
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: not a conversation? Right? How is Lamar Jackson not a
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: conversation that they're having. How are any of these things
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: not conversations? How is DeAndre Hopkins not a conversation that apparently,
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: according to every single report. They're basically out on unless
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: I can get him for free, which is not happening. Well,
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: I heard now he might get released, not Hopkins. I'm sorry,
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: Jerry Judy, No Hopkins, Hopkins, I'm right, right, right, yeah,
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: Hopkins might get released and that right, Yeah, there's no
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: I'm with Evan. I think that lessens the chances that
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: you have of getting it because not more competition, now
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: you have to win a bidding war, yeah, or just
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: I personally think that Hopkins is the best thing for
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: his career. Does go to Kansas City, win a Super
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: Bowl at Patrick Mahomes and then maybe hopefully next year
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: someone had the whole thing mapped out. Patriots have more
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: financial flexibility than can't. Evan had a perfect like in
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: just from Afar. That screams a short term incentive laden contender. Right, yeah,
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: why would you do it? Now? You know this stuff
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: with Buffalo with you? A guy won't go away too.
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: Stefan Diggs Mike's favorite wide receiver, the worst he keeps
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: sort of. Yeah, that's why I hate social media, Like
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: these cryptic tweets that people are supposed to try to interpret,
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: you know, now, I saw like watching the NFL Show
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: on NFL Network. The Giant should make a push for
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: Stefan Diggs. Yeah, sure. I think there's probably twenty five
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: teams that should be making a push to get Diggs
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: if he's really available, But that that would be the
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: first thing to me that would chip away from Buffalo.
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: Buffalo picked up Tremaine Edmonds. Fine, they triggered something in
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: his contract where trading him or releasing him is basically
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: out of the question financially. Okay, So he want more money,
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: ain't going anywhere? Yeah? His day? Yeah, so I think
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: they converted a bonus or something like that that he's
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: now got like a he's just playing it or something. Yeah, okay,
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: I think So let's go to um Eldred in North Carolina.
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: What's up, Eldred? Hey, So, looks how y'all doing to day? God? Ye, yes,
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: two things, bro oh uh? Not having faith with Beal?
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: I ain't had faith in two thousand and sixteen? Yeah,
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: I'm on that. What was the date? What was the
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: date of that, Eldred? Did you lose lose faith in
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: November of sixteen? Oh? Did they win the Super Bowl sixteen?
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: The Super Bowl? But he's doing it's doing the draft time.
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: I mean, oh okay, God be right there that we
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: need do you trade pick? Did Bartimore get like Lamar
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: Obama or man middle Stola get whatever? And then we
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: just leave out then when he'd talk good stuff about
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: the guys that you should have drafted, that you planned against,
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: that you can't cover, you know, So that's you know
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: that like that gm ys note, you know, And I
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: keep staying. Everybody get mad at me. You're the greatest
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: coach with number twelve ruggers speaking by his stuff without quill.
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: I'm sorry. You know, every every good coach got a
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: good plan, a good scheme, but you gotta have the
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: means to do it. If you don't have demand to
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: do it, you're just a coach hold of the clipboard.
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: And I hate this with Mac. I'm not a map supporter,
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: you know, but we got it. I think they didn't
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: wrong last year, and they should give me a chance
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: to make it better. As you I'd be just grown
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: on two, especially when you're messing with my career, just
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: like you did Win. You screwed Win, you know, and
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: nobody nobody talking about that part. You screwed Win. Yes,
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: you flim on the right side. To the love by
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: well get his money. Yet you didn't get his money,
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: and he's still sitting there in free agent because nobody
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: won't touch him with a jim for the pole. You
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: missed that guy's cut, You missed that guy's career up.
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: I'm sorry. You know they're just pour Gmmon and Evan Well,
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: I just agree with you on it's Quintin Johnson. We're
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: gonna buy that. Oh he loves us. Johnson's kind of
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: if he go to Buffalo like like they predicted with Thigs,
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: even though dig a little just fruntal. Now you got
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: two guys you gotta worry about besides David and I'll
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: see what you're saying. Uh, Evan most catches. I see
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: him when he downfield. Hey, he buys himself, so he
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: is catching like that. But when with somebody us his hand,
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: most of them because I've been watching him for a minute,
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: you know. And like I said, he got speed. He's
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: better than Harry, a whole lot better than Harry. He's
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: better than you know. I'll give you that. He's a
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: better prospect, way better and got a better process speed
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: and he run any run route. He's just not a
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: go guy like everybody thought d K would like I
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: told you DK's running four route creak and he's the
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: same way. You know, the difference between Quintin john and
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: DK is about two tenths of a second on a
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: forty yard Dad, you know what the different No, No,
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: the biggest had You're like braid. He got made because
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: everybody would buy him. So he played with a chip
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: on the show. That's the problem. Eldred is the wide receiver.
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: I was gonna say the difference between Eldred and one
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: receiver and another is nothing because he loves them all
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: wide receiver whisperer. I A DK is a side pork, right,
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: he ran like like two twenty five. The guy ran
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: a four three. Okay, Quinn Johnson on a hand time
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: at his pro day just run ran a four to
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: five two. I'm telling you that if you put them
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: next to each other, the compared the athletic profile. DK
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: metcalf is better than Kennel Harry and you're an idiot
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: than favorite line elfrom Wisconsin. Uh. If I'm Mac and
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: I played great this year, I tell the team to
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: go pounce in. Yeah, I want to play elsewhere. I'm
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: not a Mac guy, but this team is running a
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: clinic on how to ruin a young player. I largely
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: agree with that, and I keep saying these things like,
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: you know, I always preface out like I've been pretty
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: critical of Mac. I just don't think he's been treated fairly. Yeah,
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: you know, like you can think that he's not good enough,
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: and that's fine. That puts him in the laundry list
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: of guys that weren't quite good enough. But I don't
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: think anybody deserves this. Zach says he's from zak Is
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: in Zummerville. Do you think Bill's comments to the media
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: at the owner's meeting reflects his pettiness toward Mac Jones.
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: I wonder if Bill is thinking that because Mac did
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: not show loyalty to the team and went around asking
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: for help, Bill won't show any loyalty to Mac when
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: asked about the QB position. I think that might be personally.
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: I think that could be it personally. I don't care
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: about the drama, really, I just want to watch a
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: Bowl offense. I think that is what it is. I
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: think he hit the nail on the head. Move on,
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: I'm supposed to be loyal to this guy. I think
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: was it that he showed no loyalty to me. Was
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: it the season ending conference where he said, Matt him
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: play in this league, You've got to do a better job.
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: I mean that that was the day after that to me.
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: I mean he kind of doubled down on it last week.
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: That was last week you were in at Arizona, right, Yeah.
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: I mean it's just a contrast to that press conference
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: he had before the training camp last year, where it was,
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: you know, doing all the right things, sounded like everything
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: was on track, and Evan's um Evan's Bill as the
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: offensive coach thing. I just wonder if he is still
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: not really caught up to the change of just offense
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: in general, not even like schemes, because like Evan you said,
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: you still have a lot of faith in him defensively.
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: I think that largely goes back to his ability to
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: scheme a defense and try to slow down an offense.
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: I think his sort of prototypical players haven't really changed
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: and the game has changed dramatically, and I think that's
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: part of the problem. And I think he you know, Fred,
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: remember like a month ago, you had your whole thing
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: with wide receivers. Bill doesn't believe in at diva kind
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: of like, yep, I think it's great if you have
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: this philosophy that you've always had and had a lot
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: of success with, obviously, but it doesn't mean it's always
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: going to be right and it's always going to stay
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: that way. I just wonder if you know his idea
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: of taking you know, build from the line in. You know,
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: we're gonna take guards and franchise them, take another one
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: in the first round, and we're gonna you know, not
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: We're not gonna necessarily go for Stefan Digs on the
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: outside or Jamar Chase. Now. We're just gonna get a
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: bunch of guys that are well smaller versions of that volume.
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: We're gonna have three four. We don't we don't believe
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: in a number one receiver, I know, But I just
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: I wonder if maybe his philosophy has kind of gone
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: like a couple a couple of points I'd like to
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: touch on. It's just that, you know, first of all,
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: I just know he goes to so many college pro
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: days and he talks to so many college coaches that
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: I just I don't see how he can't be aware
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: of the direction of modern NFL offense now and the
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: other side of the ball. He seems to fully grasp
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: all these things, Like defensively he seems maybe not lately,
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: but he seemed to grasp it. You need a number
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: one corner that you need to kind of invest in
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: a guy like Matthew Judon if you don't have one,
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: and the way that their defense plays schematically, every team
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: in the league talks about how challenging it is. You
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: don't know what you're gonna get, you know, just simply
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: buy their scheme. They're able to make things difficult for
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: an offensive. Why can't they do that? Judon is a
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: great a great example of what I'm talking about. I
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: think Judean is kind of a departure so way he
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: used to do things. He didn't used to think that
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: like well you need to have that one like dominant
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: edge guy, like we're gonna scheme up pressure, we're gonna
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: get sacks are overrated. And I do think that was
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: kind of a good thing that he is sort of
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: you know, like Kyle van Noy snarky, you know about,
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: well if we all got to do that, well, because
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: Bill never used to do that. I think he did
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: show a little flexibility and letting Judon just sort of
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: go after the patterer, and he absolutely did it with
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: Ouja down the stretch last year. He never was Yes,
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: he couldn't even get on the field because that's all
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: he can do, right And now I think Bill is
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: sort of opening his mind a little bit defensively. I'd
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: like to see him do more of it. I always
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: look at defensively the safeties like Bill. I personally think
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: that Bill invented the money backer, the safety slash linebacker
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: hybrid position. When Patrick Chung came back the second time,
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: I think Bill invented a position and he put Patrick
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: Chung in the box, played him basically as a strong
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: side linebacker, which nobody was doing. Searched and searched for
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: that kind of a guy. Adrian Wilson, Tank Williams, there
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: was another guy that I can't remembered. They kept looking
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: for guys like that that would kind of hybrid linebacker
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: safety types and could do a lot of different things.
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: And I agree with with Evan, he's finally you know,
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: Chung was the guy the second time around. Yeah, he
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: found a role for and he's done it with Dugger,
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: He's done it with Adrian Philip to a lesser extent, yeah,
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: I would agree with that. I just think do you
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: think flexibility, Yeah, Steve Belichick could be a positive influence
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: on Bill, Like maybe he's not listening to Steve and
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: it's I don't know. I mean I think that defensively,
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: I just have no concerns over them innovating, of them
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: staying ahead of the curve and all those types of things,
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: because they they they've done it. I think in the
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: last couple of years they've been a little bit more
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: into too high, they've been into a little bit more
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: of zone. Just statistically speaking, they play a lot more
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: zone now because they have to then they played three
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: or four years ago. I think they would anyways, because
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: that's the game. You know, you don't really you can't
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: sit in man to man coverage all day against quarterbacks
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: and receivers like this, you're gonna get burned, right, But
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: if you can play Zoe, I mean, if you can
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: play man, you play man. The differences is that when
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: you put the chips in the middle, it's third and
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: seven and you absolutely need to stop. They still would
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: rather play man. They still play man on third down
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: more than they play zone. But first and second down
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: man and you get out there, and you're facing Tyree
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: Hill and Jalen Waddle and all these receivers, you know,
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: digs Like, you can't just play man for four straight
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: quarters anymore. It's hard to do that against the mobile quarterbacks,
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: which there are more and more of now too. They've
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: evolved a little just a little little nugget would have
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: passed along by our own Alex Francisco um via Oliver Thomas,
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: who's a writer for Pat's Pulpit. Uh, that's right, I
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: snuck that in there. Danny Amendola, Danny Amendola is joining
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: the Raiders coaching staff as a coaching assistant, slash Cher. Really,
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: that's what that's what we get from you, your types types. Yeah,
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: that's a nugget get fresh off his reality show. But
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: Danny Amendola is like a good example where I wanted
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: to go with this on offense. I think some of
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: Bill's old school thinking on offense comes out with receivers
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: where he feels like Danny Amendola's or a diame a dozen, Right,
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: I can go and find the slot receiver Jakobe Meyers,
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, Wes Welker, Like I don't need
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: to spend on that. But the guys that I want
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: to spend capital on are these specimens, right the kill
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: Harry's that even like a guy like DeVante Parker, and
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: I'm so surprised that size and speed are things that
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: he seems to gravitate towards. And this is you know,
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: with Quintin Johnson, it's the same thing where not only
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: has quickness and separation abilities succeeded in this offense more
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: than size, but also just looking from translating from the
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: college game to the pro game, separation translates much better
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: than the than size does, right, you know, in terms
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: of getting open route running things like that, those guys
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: tend to translate a lot easier to the NFL. So
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: I'm just if they go receiver early in this draft
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: and it's Quintin Johnson overs A Flowers and Addison and
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: JSN that that's not where the league is going. The
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: league is going towards separation, speed, separation running, and these
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: other guys that they've seemed to be interested in the
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: last couple of years are not that. And I just
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: that's a part of it that I really just don't understand.
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: How I feel like there's a blinder on to that
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: sort of thing. Well, Evan. Along those lines, Adam Schefter
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: is reporting that Zay Flowers will visit the Patriots tomorrow
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: and he will also attend the draft. That's just tweeted
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: out by Adam Schefter. So okay, be on the lookout tomorrow,
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: say Flowers in the building. Don't get me excited out
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: there waiting in the bushes for him, remember me, Scott,
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: and Virginia writes in let's just assume the reports about
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: shopping Mac or true. Is it reasonable to connect the
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: dots of letting Myers and Damian Harris walk to possibly
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: trading Mac if Bill wants to start fresh or move
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: on to Zappy moving on from Max too big a
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: supporters seemed to make some sense. Keeping them and trading
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: Mac opens up more criticism intention from inside the locker room.
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean, I just I get it
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: a little bit. But I also don't think surprising that
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: Damian Harris walked, and I think Jacoby Myers was kind
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: of a coin flip. It didn't feel like they purpose.
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: I would say like we had either an email or
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: a caller earlier suggest that was Damian Harris a big
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: Mac guy. I know they had the Alabama thing, but like,
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: I don't remember him being outspoken last year. I remember Myers,
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: I remember Born, I remember Andrews, and I remember Henry.
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: Damian Harris and Mac Jones are best friends. Okay, off
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: the field. I'm not saying that Damian Harris was vouching
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: for him or anything like that, but off the field,
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: day are very close. I just didn't remember anything other
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: than annoying barking from Damian Harris all last year. He
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: would just he's got that dog when people are trying
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: to talk to the people in Buffalo really liked that.
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: Neil and new Brunswick. This take has nothing to do
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: with whether Mac is a good player or not. It's
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: to do with defending the player because I like everyone else.
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: Because like everyone else, I don't know. These guys work
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: their entire teenage life to go to a big time college.
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: They get a chance to be drafted to the NFL
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: and then get three years to prove their worth being
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: paid life changing money. Mac had a decent rookie year.
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: Then in year two, Patricia and Judge both failed head
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: coaches with no offensive experience. That was a major, major
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: blow to his chances of earning that money. So if
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: it was any of us, how would we feel we'd
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: be frustrated in acting out too. Honestly, I hope they
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: trade the kid and he succeeds somewhere else. It's time
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: to move on from Bill. It's that simple. Thanks for
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: the memories, but I just can't put up with him
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: as below five hundred without Tom for the past thirty years,
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: Tom for past thirty years coach GM. I don't know
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: what that ending it means, but okay, it means Belichick
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: is under five hundred over the past thirty years when
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: he doesn't have. It's not that hard. It's not written well,
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: so yeah, well and over when someone says that, no, no, no,
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: well and and over says I'm getting frustrated with the
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: more Mac and Belichick news. There's a nessa report about
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: how howire like Mac was against the coaching system last
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: year we caught, We talked about that. I like Mac,
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: but I'm tired of this Bill over his quarterback drama.
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: If Bill doesn't want Mac, I'd rather Bill just move
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: on now rather than drag out this petty fight through
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: the offseason. Might be either get Lamar or extend zappy
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: on a Daniel Jones extend zappy. Yeah, hell no. First
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: of all, you're not even allowed to do that. He's
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: only in the year league one year. He can't extend
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: his contract yet. Oh boy, let's go back to the phones.
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: AJ's in the Bay Area. He was in the Bay
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: Area and now he's gone. Alex is in New Jersey
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: or No Jersey City. What's up Alex which is in Jurse?
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: Hey guys, I think Evan just hit the you know,
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: head on the mail right there. With wide receivers, even
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: though I love like the six foot t two hundred
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: pounds type of receivers, I think the NFL is kind
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: of translating more into those field structures, those separators, um
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: you knowing act to that playoff game against the Bills.
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: I mean, johsh Allen could throw a deep, but they
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: were killing us with the crosss and we couldn't really
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: contain it. They're just, you know, all speed, all separation.
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: I'm in love with Say Flowers. I watched a couple
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: of games to him when he was in Boston College.
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: But I think first rounds a bit too rich for me,
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: you know, since he is a little undersized maybe if
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: we can get like a discount on that, like Josh Downs,
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: Marvin Mims. I was just wondering what you guys were thinking,
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: especially in the day two, day three type separators draft.
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: Save Flowers. Yeah, period, Thanks Alex. I love Josh Jones too,
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: So I just know in your mind, Dave Flowers is
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: the best receiver available. I take him at fourteen if
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: you run the card up right now. And that's I mean,
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: obviously that's Evan's feel, and I'm fine with that. But
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: my thing is, if you think that Zay Flowers is
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: really good, like I love Zay Flowers, why wouldn't you
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: want to take him well? Like why is fourteen to like?
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: Then you don't love him right? And I'm okay, listen,
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: I'm not telling you you're wrong. I don't evaluate these
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: guys like I'm not an NFL scout. I can't tell
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: you no, no, no no, no, not fourteen. He's more on
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: the twenty eight round. Like I don't know. But if
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: you love a guy, if you think he's gonna be
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: a great player for your team, take him at fourteen.
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: Take him at fourteen. You have a great player on
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: your team that you love, right, Like why wouldn't you.
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: You know, you did it with close Strange, so instead
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: you're gonna say yeah and listen, obviously, that's in, you know,
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: a big difference. That's a guy that you arguably could
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: have gotten three or four rounds later as opposed to
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: ten picks later. Love him, you know, you know, let's
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: trade down so we can get Zay Flowers at twenty.
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: You for that a million times, right, right, right, Like
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: what's the difference? Yeah, I love the guy. I want him.
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: I want to make sure I get him because I
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: love him. Like, that's what I would want to do
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: if Zay Flowers is the guy. And I respect Evan's
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: opinion watches this stuff more than I do. So I
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: just don't understand why the thought would be, I love
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: that guy, but too rich for my blood. Let's wait
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: till the cut rate version of z Flowers is available
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: at the end of round three. Yeah, Like I don't
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: I'm not picking on the call. A lot of people
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: say those things, so it's like, you know, you got
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: to win the contract. Like I get why the team
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: does that. It's in the team's interest. They have a
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: financial stake at this stuff. But like, I don't know
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: why any fan would ever say I'd like Aaron Rodgers
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: for two years, but not a fifty nine million. That's
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: too rich for I don't have that ton of money
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: right now. I'll never understand that. And I would say
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: I am in a vast minority of fans. You don't
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: care about the value it. Yeah, you're going out to
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: buy a car, and you know this car is really expensive,
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: but it you know, maybe I can get you know,
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: something similar but a less price. But that expensive car
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: is gonna last you for ten years or if it's
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: the one that you really want right now, if you
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: could afford it, you get it. If you can't, obviously
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: you don't know, like there's a million cars I can't afford,
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: right Yeah, because you but I mean that's that's that's different.
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: That's not a fire. Actually, I totally, I totally get
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: your point. I also just think though, there is a
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: little bit of nuance that I would consider of you know,
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: do you want Zay Flowers and Matthew bergeron or do
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: you want Paris Johnson and Josh Downs. I mean, those
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: are just so I know, it's different from where you're saying.
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: That's where my head come That's exactly the same if
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: you think I really love Paris Johnson, Like, okay, it's
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: the same thing. I can make an argument how many
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: times I make the joke you stack the board vertically
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: and horizontally, like you have to make those decisions as
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: to is the tackle more important than the wide receiver?
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: And with so many holes that they have, you know,
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: that's I mean, that's just where I'm totally fun. I'm
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: totally fine. Comes in for me is that I think
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: Zay is probably going to go somewhere in the twenty
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: to twenty five range in this draft. And so if
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: I can trade down to twenty and still get Zay
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: and then add a Day two picks, so that because
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: now you're not getting the premium tackle, right, So you're
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: not getting Paris Johnson. So now I have to throw
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: more darts at tackle because I need to. You know,
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: it's bad. That's a little different too, because now you're
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: trading down to still get the same guy that you love,
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: and I'm trying to add a pick to get something
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: else that I need, right, which is like different than
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: saying I'm gonna not take that guy at fourteen because
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: I can get a cut rate version of that guy
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: at forty six. Back to your main point, though, if
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: you think that Zay Flowers is a game changer, don't
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: risk it, Like if you really think it. I don't
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: think they're at the point right now where maybe in
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: the past they could have said, let's see, maybe he's
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: not there, but we can afford to take this chance
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: right now. To me, you trade down when there's a
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: group of players you love equally and you know I'll
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: get at least one of them, you know, But if
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: there's that one guy that you really love you can't afford.
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: I think you trade down because you're looking to get
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: more picks. Yeah, that would be the only reason why
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: I would trade down, says the best playmaker in the draft,
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: so like three level playmaker. And obviously everybody would sit
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: there and say, well, obviously I wouldn't love to have
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: more picks too, But you have to weigh it. Do
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: you want the player that is available more than the
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: extra picks? Yeah? I don't like the idea. I went
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: on that rant a couple of weeks ago. I players
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: are never the same. I don't like the whole There's
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: a group of five, and I'll be happy with any
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: of them. No, No, one of those guys you like,
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: But why why is that imposs one of those guys
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: you like more? You stack the board like one of
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: those guys just better than the others. So Zay Flowers
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: versus Josh Down's not close to me, it's it's it's
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: Za and the reason being is that Zay is just
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: so much better after the catch than they both. They
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: both have the vertical route running ability and the separation
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: ability underneath. But one of them is an absolute game
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: breaker with the ball in the hands and the other
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: one isn't. And that's a So that's a different but
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: I don't I could be more persuaded into a Zay
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: Flowers versus Jordan Addison debate where if you trade down
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: and you end up with one of those two guys,
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: now maybe we're talking more in the same the same
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: tier of players. Sure, And if you want to say
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: I'm going to trade down because I want to get
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: the picks, that's more important to me. And I've you know,
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: done my research, because these guys obviously have an idea
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: how the board's going to unfold. I think there's a
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: better than average chance that I still get the guy
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: I was going to take at fourteen. Now what frustrates
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: me is every time they trade down, they always leak
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: it out there that that's the guy they wanted. They
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: were going to take him at fourteen anyway. They said
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: it last year. Yeah, they were going to take Cold
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: Strange at twenty one, you know, like they didn't. I
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: shouldn't say they said it. That's not fair. They didn't
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: say it. They had others say it for him. Brian
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: in the Bay Area, is it possible that mac mac
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: has asked for a trade and that's why he's being shopped.
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: It's possible. Sure, I don't know. That's stretched well, I
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: think that's bigger news. If I was a reporter who
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: wanted to get a scoop like Bill Belichick tried versus
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: mac Jones wants, I would think. I don't think you
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: would sit on the mac Jones wants a trade. I
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: also think if mac Jones requested a trade, you'd have
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: heard about it. Yea, it would have come. It would
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: have come from his agent, his guy, George. And Marylyn
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: writes in I've always kept in the back of my
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: mind the fall of the Steelers back in the day
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: when the game passed Chuck no By and he still
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: continued to coach. I've always prayed that this wouldn't happen
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: with coach Belichick, but the backdrop seems eerily familiar. Let
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: me know what you think. I mean, those were some
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: awful Steelers teams. I'm not familiar with the Steelers history
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: as much. I'm gonna look it up. Well, they got
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: into like that quarterback thing where it was Mark Malone
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: and until they got Roethlisberger, you know, yeah, but in
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: between they went to super Bowls with Jags like Neil
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: O'donaldhil o'donald. Chuck Carrie in England says, I am one
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: of the max super fans you speak of. Get Bill out.
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: It's time for him to go and mister Kraft to
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: step in and do the right thing. Enough is enough.
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: I'm fuming. I'm so sorry, mack on behalf of Patriot's Nation.
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: The treatment is disgusting. Yes, Chuck Noll absolutely would be
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: a comp It's so I want to say in eighty
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: four they went to the playoffs, but it's nine and seven,
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: seven and nine, and six and ten, eight and seven,
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: five and eleven, nine and seven, nine and seven, seven
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: and nine, Like that's what they're it's about half the time,
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: is that? But that's what you're in the middle of
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: right now, just sort of a relative mediocrity. I wonder
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: what the finger pointing was there. I mean it was it, Oh,
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: he didn't have Bradshaw or he didn't have the steel
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: curtain defense. But obviously they didn't replace because they had
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: how many of those? Um? Is that later? Later? What
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: free agency? Well, this was not free agency. But this
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: is my my contention. You'll probably we could probably get
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: in a good fight about this, because I stand alone
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: on an island. I think it was much harder to
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: build a team than it is now. All all you
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: have to do is go out and sign whatever you want. Um.
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: They only had one way really to get a player
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: back then, and that was to draft. And now, to
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: the Steelers credit, they had arguably the greatest single draft
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: in NFL history, and I think seventy four when they
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: drafted like five Hall of famers. Yeah, Steelers, hall of famers. Anybody,
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: anybody that needed something and you were really good, but
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: you needed like that one piece, you couldn't get it
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: anywhere but the draft. Now you just signed it. That
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: that's fair, But you could also keep guys right now.
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: That's that's the thing. You're allowed to keep guys now too.
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: It's easier to keep guys. There was no competition to
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: keep them back then, right, I mean there's no free agency,
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: so you couldn't you couldn't lose anybody. Stay with us,
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: or you want to stop playing football, right, Yeah, I
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: think it's I think there's but you have the choice
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: to keep the guy. All you have to do is
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: pay them. Yeah. Now, the players had a lot less
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: mobility back then, yes, or no, there was a lot
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: less mobility. Yeah, players, So if you didn't have anything,
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: you couldn't get it. No, But players have options now
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: they didn't back then. You know you were, Yes, you
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: were more under the control of the team back correct.
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: That's why it's easier to build a team. Now there's
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: mobility you're making you're making, my poet. But it's but
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: also like it's hard, it's hard to harder to retain
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: guys too. So I think there's a given take there.
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: I think you could make the case on both sides.
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: If you're a if you're you know, if you're a
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: have team, then you're probably right, Paul. But if you're
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: you know, one of the small market teams. Back then
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: you were you were in a bind, and it's gonna
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: be as a free agent, and even even if you
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: love where you're at, I'd like to go on the
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: open market and see what I'm worth to see what's
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: somebody wants to pay me. Why not, you know, find out, Yeah,
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: maybe somebody surprises you. But I real quick, I was
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: kind of think when you were talking, what do you
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: think it's like in the like Patriots, NFL like draft rooms,
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: Because it's funny like going through this experience with you
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: now and you get like very extreme on people suddenly,
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: like do you think they do too? Because I do too.
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: Like you get attached to guys and you kind of
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: like you're like, god, I love this guy. Like, and
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: I always tell people like, don't get attached the draft picks,
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: as they could just as easily end up on the
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: jets of the Dolphins. You know. Um, But you know,
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: I just I wonder what it's like when you're actually
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: really doing it and your opinion counts for a lot.
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: And I have to like pound the tables that I'm
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: not saying that the stories are necessarily here, but from
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: the stories that I have heard there are legitimate fights
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: where people need to be almost broken up. And I'm
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: not talking about on draft night. I'm talking about before then,
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: when they're stacking, when they're stacking the guy. Yeah, agree, literally,
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: I will fight. There's an area scout that's only works
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: in the Northeast, so he's watched every single game Zay
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: Flowers has ever played. And the guy that covers you know,
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: the PAC twelve out west is telling him that Jordan
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: Addison's the guy, and he's saying that it's a oh yeah, yeah.
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: Those meetings go all night, you know, back and forth,
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: just like me and Barnes text messages about these things.
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: Franklin and Baltimore writes it, I'm kind of shocked that
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: others seem to be shocked about their being friction between
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: Bill and Mack. If there's one thing that has consistent
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: of Bill's time time and again is that he doesn't
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: have the patience for people who bucked the program or
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: system in any fashion, dating all the way back to
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: lawyer malloy the moment there were reports during last year's
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: training camp Mac having trouble buying in The writing was
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: on the wall for this to happen. This is also
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: part of the reason I'm warming up to potentially moving
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: on from Bill not because of the Max situations, specifically
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: because I feel like he'll run into these problems much
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: more frequently now than he did with the Pass. Given
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: the difference in attitudes of young players coming into the league.
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: They're not going to stand to accept any type of
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: coaching when they're getting professional level development in college. Wow.
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: Has really nothing to do with the the gist of
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: the story, other than I would say I don't think
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: anybody is surprised to be reading about friction between guys
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: who have kind of been openly bickering with one another
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: for the better part of two years, Robert Craft and
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: Bill Belich. I'm just surprised. The second thing is, what
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: exactly did lawyer Malloyd do that that showed disloyalty? You
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: want him more money? He did, didn't take a pay cut? Yes,
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: that was what he did. Yeah, he didn't do anything. Yeah,
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: that was more. I think his agent kind of sealed
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: that one. No, he wanted they wanted to give him
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: a pay cut. He said, no, Yeah, it happens all
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: the time, Danny Amndola. They wanted to give a pay cut.
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: He kept taking it, and he stayed like, it's up
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: to you. What's up to the player, right, But some
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: some can do anything wrong. Some guys they asked to
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: take a pay cut, they say no, and they go
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: and make more money somewhere else, like William Malloyd did.
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: Or they say okay, and they move on to the
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: next player to try to get him the paycut. They
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: don't necessarily get rid of them, not all the time.
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: They don't always get rid of the guy that says
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: no to taking a pay cut. But what did he
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: do wrong? As my point, I don't know. Okay, but
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: you said the agent gave him bad advice. You were like,
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: we're all over the map with that. Well remember too much, Sally.
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: It became like you don't have to get cut the guy.
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: I remember that time. I remember at the time the
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: agent wouldn't even talk like about a pay cut. They
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: were trying to get him to take a pay cut
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: for months. I don't know the details. I mean, you're
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: you're hearing one side of the story. Can I say
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: something about the draft before we lap up there? So
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: I think that we're in We're in smoke Screen season, right,
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: We're in Lion season, right? Now. But the one thing
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: that I always look at with the Patriots and the
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: lead up to the draft that I think is compelling
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: right now is they might not tell you. They certainly
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: won't tell you who they're drafting, but their visits and
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: who where they go and who they're talking to usually
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: gravitates towards the position groups that they're really focused on
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: doing their homework on, and if they have met with
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: every single wide receiver at the top of the draft
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: multiple times at this point, Flowers now coming in for
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: a visit after being at the Shrine Bowl, Johnston at
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: the TCU Pro Day, j and sanat Ohio State in
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: the combine. Jordan Addison's coming in tomorrow for his top
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: thirty visit. So they are receivers on the board, like
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: they are talking to every single receiver in this draft.
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: They've talked to a bunch of the corners and the
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: tackle prospects as well. You know, Cody Mock's coming in.
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: Manuel Forbes is reportedly coming in for a visit. So
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: I think we're all on the same page even even
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: now about what they need. I mean, right to your point, Evan,
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: maybe they're gonna bring Jordan Addison and Zay Flowers in
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: tomorrow at the same I mean, I don't know the
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: exact same time, but I mean it seems like they're
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: both gonna kind of be here, comparable players, same kind
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: of pick area. And I mean again the TCU thing
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: that stood out to me, both those guys standing right
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: there with him, eyes g talking to him, what he
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: said to you. With the combine, I just I think
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: I think there's something there for sure. In terms of the
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: the receivers. This gives me twenty nineteen vibes all over again.
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: Who would be the guy who would be your him Johnston? Yeah,
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: Johnson would be my my nikkil Harry of this draft.
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: Un Zay is obvious you. Zay is obviously Deebo Samuel
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: in this in this conversation. Um, and I'll I'll say,
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: Jordan Addison is you guys term Barth ever text like
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: I love Za Flowers more. No, I love Za Flowers more.
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: I definitely like Za Flowers more than Barth does. That.
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: That's that's definitely my my draft crush. Bars is Dwan
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: Jones from Ohio State The Tackle. Yeah, he's this big
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: guys loves that guy. You imagine falling in love with
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: a tackle loves him hand placement and what was it?
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: Hand placement? And see that that kicks? Like did you
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: see that? Did you actually see your son is offensive?
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: Paris Johnson's kick slides that his pro day were absurd.
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: I was just like, oh my goodness, you don't get
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: that because my dorky son, who was an offensive lineman,
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: Like when he first started to it in the house,
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: he would do that to me all the time. He
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: would walk up and put his hand to my chest
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: the kicks and I would just knock him down. I'll
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: give him the rip in the spin move right, Benn
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: and Brooklyn says, I think all the criticism will Bill
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: the GM are valid, but I have to defend him
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: as a coach. Take a look at the charges Herbert, Bosa, Eckler,
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: James and Allen are all better than our guys, yet
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: the team chronically underachieves. Could say the same about that
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: they had that for a year, like are you high?
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: All right? Let him finish fully understood that many of
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: the moves haven't worked out, but Bill has earned more
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: currency even as a GM. In my view, Let's see
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: what happens with the draft remaining free agency. They have
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: another bad season, than maybe it's time. Okay, if somebody
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: has to so one season, somebody has to defend Bill. Yeah,
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: I know there's no defenders of Bill out there. Yeah,
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: I'll tell you. You must have searched far and wide
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: for that on this show. Oh it seems that way lately. Yeah. Um,
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: let's see the Chargers argers like he did, like the
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: cat cow thing on the sideline one at that, just
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: that they draft a quarterback and three years later they
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: were in the playoffs like man underachievers. Cody writes in
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: I just think everyone needs to take a breath. Remember
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: when Julius Peppers was a dune deal. Let's not believe
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: every single thing we read. We had a guy on
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: our show thought he was gonna get signed by the Patriots,
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: and that made it a dune deal. Other people did too,
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: Other people had almighty. I mean, it's not like Victorus
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: sy isn't plugged in. It's just like revisionist history. Yes
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: it is actually now. I also now I also feel
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: that I need to hold Eldred's feet to the fire
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: a little. Yes, DK Metcalf was a good player. Pat
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: yourself on the bat. Please keep in mind Eldred also
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: pounded the table for players like Stefan Hill, Terrence Williams,
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: Coudaro Patterson. I love Biggie and the passion he brings,
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: but let's not act like he's flawless. Terrence Williams was
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: a good player. Okay, you mentioned Cordarrel Patterson. To me
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: about Quentin Johnston, He's not even as fast as Cordarill Patterson.
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: But I think that that's not a bad comparison in
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: terms of playing style. I think those two guys have
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: some over But Cordaryl Patterson, like you could say, Okay,
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: maybe he's not like the elite wide receiver that some
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: people thought he was gonna be. Certainly not what good
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: football player for a long time. Yeah, he's a good fight.
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: If that was a miss for me in the draft,
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: if I'm eldred, I'll take that. Yeah. Uh now some
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: draft style over unders ready, Okay, times we hear rich
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: eyes and say and there it is thirty one point
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: five first round only been over. Uh times Patriots double
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: up on a position one and a hey, I'm gonna
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: say over. Yeah, I'm gonna say I'm gonna yeah. I
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: agree with Paul, You're gonna get two defensive backs, two
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: offensive linemen something like yeah, absolutely wide receivers drafted Hey
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: over over Yeah, tackle tackles drafted one and a hay
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: off the bridge tackles drafted one and the Hey, I'll
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: take the yeah. Defensive players drafted four and a hay
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: under Yeah, two or three defensive players and it's eleven picks.
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: If it's over that I'm gonna I'm also leaving. Yeah,
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: I'm gonna take the under. That's a good that's a
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: good over under. He set there good trades picks and
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: suicide watch trades after last year, Like I'm not I'm
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: not like these guys. I think the defense needs a
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: lot of help, but I think it's less help than
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: like six and five. Like I think there's more offense.
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: Give me. It's a corner and a rotational end. Yep,
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: thank you. Trades picks or players three and a hay
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: over over trades, trades under under three and a hay
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: over under over uh. And finally draft picks. The fans
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: love hey under way over, The fans love yeah, way over.
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: They'll be like nine out of eleven. Well, big banged,
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: you know, man, plush draft. I liked it, like the straw. Yeah,
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: I like, I'm the straw. How many times like the
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: head part, the people just shaking their head, Like the
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: head coach claims that the Devin mccordy draft was panned
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: by everybody until I looked up all the grades. But
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: again you're talking media. That cracks me up. Belichick fans
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: all love it, except for the first round pick that
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: could be split. The first round. The first round pick
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: last year was unanimously correct. That's why I said the
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: first round pick sometimes can be can be panned. Running
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: away from that would be nice to have a guy
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: I liked that on our team. Who is that Garret Wilson? Yeah?
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: Who was he? Running away from jail Mills? It's just
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: a quick clip, all right, what's that like? Running away?
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: All Right? That's it for this show. Yeah, I gotta,
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: we gotta. But it was a good show. A lot
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: of lively talk. Thanks. I think it's really intriguing. Yeah,
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: just to put im like, I have no idea if
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: there's any validity to it. But it's listen, it's it's
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: not every day that the head coach may be interested
- 1:55:31Speaker 1: in trading the starting quarterback. I'm just I'm finding annoying.
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: I'm waiting for an actual offseason show where there isn't
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: any actual Patriots football stuff to talk about, because every
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: time there seems like there's something. Don't stop. Yeah, so
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: we can talk about movies and stuff like that, right, all, right,
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: then we'll really lose heaven. We will see you on
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: Thursday at noon draft. Thank you for downloading this podcast.
