- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: So everybody, welcome on in.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_01]: It is that time of the week, the suit is on.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_01]: S-I-Podcast back for your listening or viewing pleasure.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully, right, Chapag here, hanging out in the mors.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_01]: We get through what has been a very, very long week.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_01]: The week after the Super Bowl always seems to drag, of course, we'll get to that here in a second.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_01]: But just because it's like, we hit a little bit of a tip.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's the last little bit to all star.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_01]: Thunder, I've had a late Monday game, which is, so it's almost like we're prepping for the playoffs,
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: That's a me issue, not an issue that you're having to have, John.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_03]: No, we're staying busy here.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_03]: Listen, all I know is softball is back.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_03]: Patty, we're glad you're here.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_03]: Ladies, welcome back.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_03]: Softball season, saving the football off season for podcasts everywhere.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: It is certainly back and there's a ton of softball stuff that we will get to hear in a little bit.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_01]: We have our resident Super Bowl champion.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_01]: I know that Carson you didn't play, but you did everything you could from where you were and I did the daily check in.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: Hey man, how much did you drop Sunday night?
- 1:21[SPEAKER_01]: It sounds like you've been much more measured than I was in 2021.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I've been more frugal than I planned to be, um, did a little browsing on Monday night, but I can't say this week's gone by slow.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's been in a great week.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: Um, don't, it's not it.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: It's not every day that your team wins a championship.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: So, got a lot of it.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's been a good week.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, here's two running it back next year.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry to the other three in this podcast.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_03]: It is every day when you're on my team.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_03]: I told you that last week, man.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_03]: Thank you.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_03]: Thank you.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_03]: You can make millions if you join my team and bet on your team to win the championship.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: Good to know there is no such thing as the Hooper Jinks.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: I really have to appreciate that.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: It comes to, there are a few certainties in life.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_01]: One, we will get locked into a stadium.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: If you're on a doubt, one of your teams will take home a title.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: We've also got Ryan Aber in the house per huge duel.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_01]: Ryan and I were hanging out yesterday out at Love's Field for some available stuff.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: Ryan, I know we caught out, but how are you?
- 2:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, not bad, I think, you know, just thinking about what Carson said, apologizing to the three of us, I really think he only needs to apologize to Hoover and I because if your team even sniffs the Super Bowl, you should be throwing a party that in the last weeks, if not months.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: It happens, I don't know if you're aware of it, we now have the greatest offense of mine in football history and the rest is history.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see, the Raiders have been involved in a former coach, Raiders showdown.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it can be Raiders Seahawks.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_01]: Are my dog just out in the corner earlier?
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: She's having herself a day.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, real quick, Carson, did you see the genosmith meme last week that he was so awesome?
- 3:10[SPEAKER_03]: that the team that he left immediately won the Super Bowl and the team that he went to immediately got the number one overall pick.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_03]: Love it.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_01]: Gotta love it.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_01]: Impact player also, thank you to Steve Fox winning the Super Bowl, which gave this one of the weirder images and sports.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_01]: Thunderfads remember this, it seems like Raising Cains dumps out a bunch of money to get a member of the championship teams that come around because Crusoe did the stuff through KC.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: Sam Darnold sitting in a Raising Cains booth.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_01]: being asked about New York jet fans that still support it.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_01]: I was just like, what is this image and can we please stop?
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: And like, let's say I'm darn old, have fun and enjoy without having to talk about jet fans in a cane's booth at a, what should be a fan in any way.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_01]: Whole squad is here.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: A, where we got cars to field.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: John Hoover and myself boys, let's dive in.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_01]: We're gonna get to everything surrounding Jin Rocha and the softball program here in a minute, but it has been quite literally Wednesday, a busy day in the Oklahoma football world, breaking news and in Ryan, let's just go straight to you.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: The soonars that looks like have targeted, they have found themselves in a defensive backs coach.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_01]: Every his friends over at the Oklahoma breakdown reported this year earlier, A-burn.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_01]: been pretty widely confirmed.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_01]: That's sort of looking for.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_01]: What can you tell us about Oklahoma's new replacement for Jay Black?
- 4:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, a guy that they're familiar with because he was coaching on the other sidelines last year in the second game of the season for Michigan, Lamar Morgan, who has been Michigan's defensive backs coached the last couple of years.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_02]: It'll be interesting to see how all of these puzzle pieces fit together.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_02]: is it's been reported that he's going to be the defensive backs coach.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_02]: What does that mean for Brandon Hall?
- 4:58[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, his title does he stay sort of the safety scoach is almost an assistant DB's coach.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_02]: How does that fit together?
- 5:07[SPEAKER_02]: But Morgan has coached both corner backs safety and overall defensive backs during his career had a has been in the SEC some at Vanderbilt.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_02]: was a defensive backs coach there and also a graduate assistant had a lot of success also it.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_02]: His alma mater, Louisiana, so a guy who has a pretty good track record, you know, not an overly young guy at 40, but a guy who, you know, certainly has had a lot of success both on the recruiting trail.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_02]: and developing players on the back end at all of his stops, but especially at Michigan the last couple years.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Carson does this mean that he saw two looks of Taylor Tateman said, I know, I would like to go, now I'm kidding.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_01]: I'm kidding.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: It's something that Carson, if you look at the initial reaction from those out of an arbor, it's not just the recruiting piece that A were just mentioned.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's also
- 6:07[SPEAKER_01]: It seems like he's a guy that plays a key role in retention and trying to keep recruiting those guys to come back whether it be not going to the portal, can you stay an extra year maybe and really improve your draft stock, which not initially I think on anyone's radar when, you know, as everyone put together as you did for us, the hot boards and things like that, but if you take a step back,
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: Outside of just a straight up venibles connection when you're connecting the dots, everything that anyone seems to know about.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: It fits everything you would expect of like, let's go down, let's take a name off it and just all the traits that Brett venibles wants in his defensive staff.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean retention and recruiting are two of the biggest parts of being a good position coach and I feel like retention doesn't get talked about enough because you don't see the headlines of oh this player's leaving x school this player signing to x school, but it's really it's really I mean it's massive obviously.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: when you see big players, might not get the headline story, we might not write about, oh, this defensive player is staying, but it is massive for this team building on what they had, what was good a year ago.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: So getting somebody like that, that's really good with retention.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's big.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_00]: Part of me is a little bit surprised.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't go with someone internal, like an Xavier Brewer, like a haul.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_00]: But from all that I've seen from the initial reports that he is the guy for OU,
- 7:32[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'll add to that.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_03]: I think it is.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_03]: It does sound like it's a really good hire.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_03]: He's been around some schools, obviously, you mentioned Vanderbilt.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_03]: You mentioned Michigan, obviously.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_03]: He played at Louisiana.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_03]: He played Collegiate, Louisiana.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_03]: Western Carolina, Louisiana Monroe, Houston, Louisiana.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_03]: He's played at the coast of these places, coast DBs at these places.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_03]: What I like about him, though, guys.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_03]: This is the old, old who've coming out.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_03]: This is the old soul in me, the old crotchety old grandpa here.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not a grandpa yet, but we'll see.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe someday.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_03]: He was a semi-finalist for the Campbell trophy, which is the academic heisman, the top scholar athlete, you know, award that goes to football players.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_03]: So that tells you right there, he's got a little something else to him.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_03]: Got a little something else to him.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_03]: He's got two masters degrees, Texas A&M Commerce, and Bander Boomer.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_03]: Oh no, Hoover.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_03]: He has three.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_03]: Well, he's got two from Texas K&M Commerce, one from Vanderbilt, and then one from Louisiana.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_03]: So, wow, holy crap, it tells you that he's about doing that work.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_03]: It tells you that he's serious about his vocation, serious about where he's going in life, the direction he's going.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_03]: So, you got to like that part about him too.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_02]: Way better than he has three total masters, bachelor's from Louisiana, two masters from commerce, two commerce, and from famian, hook up.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_02]: Very impressive resume academically,
- 9:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, yeah, it is a time management clinic that he has put on throughout his life and it's something to that we'll see the ripples like I like it as a your brew if he can stay on and Oklahoma can make make sure that when stuff like that happens and then I don't know going into it if it was like, hey, say we're going to go out and find it and establish guy to come in and continue to keep you on staff as an analyst slash are they now just assistance and
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: We just determined who wears the headset on Saturdays first, who doesn't and who goes out on the road to actually recruit.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_01]: But it allows if that can happen, Oklahoma to maintain some continuity across their position groups.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_01]: His bro was always working, hated hand with J.V.L.I.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: along with you, Brigadin Lamar, and then Brandon Hall and then figure everything out there.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_01]: And that'll be important just to continue to carry that on.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_01]: Certainly, just at the cornerbacks specifically, you have an incredible foundation between court and gillery, Eli Bowen, and then it becomes, say, how much improvement can you continue to get out of Jacobi Johnson and just a bunch of guys, like you lost him on Jordan, but can you kind of nuke them?
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: Can you guys like that continue to develop?
- 10:10[SPEAKER_01]: And you should have a pretty deep position group.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_01]: day one that you can kind of put your fingerprints on and get going there as far as you never like to see somebody go in a java live and I think everybody understood head to the NFL, head to the bills, got it, make sense.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_01]: It's not like you're losing him to Texas or anything, hit where he would have headed back to Texas or anything crazy like that.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: And now it's also a spot where java, I think, unquestionably lift that corner back room, watch much better than what he
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: carry that baton, whether it be him, Brandon Hall, Xavier Broward, we'll see how all the titles get officially dulled out there, but that's kind of the last piece for Oklahoma's coaching staff, then it becomes ramping up into, they're currently in winter workouts, but ramping up toward spring balls, we get ever so closer.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_01]: Before you know it, we'll be talking about pre-spring, and if we get to meet some of the transfers and the freshmen at all, that's kind of crazy.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: It felt like the season just
- 11:09[SPEAKER_01]: but we'll be there soon.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_01]: Another reason why we know that we'll be there soon is because that means that the NFL combine and pro-days across the country or getting closer and closer, sooners had thin guys that were announced that they were gonna get an invite to the combine.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: Let me rattle through him here, Carson, and then you can dive in.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_01]: Deunbergs, Jaren Kannick, Pabetschy Weewe, Armace and Thomas, Grace and Holton, Marvin Jones Jr. Dominic Williams, Kindle Daniels, Owen Heinecki,
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: and Robert Spears' Jennings.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_01]: That's the 10 headed to Indy, Garza Cut, what do you kind of make as far as we look at over anything.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone knows R-Mason and a good spot, but we're looking at for guys that have a real big chance to get some FaceTime and really improve their values we get into draft season fully.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, oh, and Hainakees and obvious answer for this one, just in the sense that he had his breakout this past season doesn't have a whole lot of tape, but he was spectacular in 2025 curious to see how he does in some of these workouts, the mental tests that they have to go through at the combine, but he, I mean, he had zero draft stock practically before this season now he has at least a considerable amount.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: really cool that he's getting an invite, getting the chance to go out to Indianapolis.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: So really interested to see how he does.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_00]: And then a guy like Jarren canic on the offensive side.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: He intrigues me in the sense that he's only played one year of tight-end in college, but had some really good moments.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: Certainly some things he needs to work on.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, did it have a touchdown this year.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_00]: But from what I've heard a lot of teams are interested in Jarren
- 12:45[SPEAKER_00]: really interested in, while he's a little undersized of very speedy guy for a Titan could potentially be a good pass catching Titan.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_00]: So I want to see what he does, see what the scouts, the GMs, the exact, they all think of what he can do at the next level after only one year.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: But it's also just notable for defensive linemen.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_00]: That's really a testament to how good the D-Line was.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: We obviously talked about that just about every week on this podcast in the season.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_00]: But it is remarkable and that's not even with David Stone, Jade and Jackson who were presumably going to be stars again in 26.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_00]: So I thought that was notable too.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_01]: and John, when you look at two, you mentioned Carson, like a gerian canic.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_01]: I'm looking at the Vetsuit Wee will, just as someone that when you talk about tape, he puts out two pretty good games out there at center, then goes to the East West Triumph bowl and sounds like he just absolutely tore it up down there and was really, really impressive.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_01]: Kind of a situation where the testing would be the testing and all of that, and you'll have two games of film, and I think that whether he had played center or not, teams would be thinking about that anyway for Vetsuit, but it's always easier to say,
- 13:52[SPEAKER_01]: We know that we've seen two games and we've seen two games against LSU and Alabama, so that's going to be huge, but also big for just him to get in there and really, I think that it's one of those things that they get in there and talk to these guys, and I think they're going to be pretty impressive in that setting, John.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and I'm looking forward to what I like what Carson said about Jaren Canak, he's a he's a guy that a lot of people there in the NFL scout wise, they see him go and their radar is going to pop up, red flag comes up to his wait a minute, why is he only play one year because he's he's got some natural gifts he's going to show those at the combine and people are going to be really intrigued by what he can do athletically.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_03]: I think the same thing from
- 14:34[SPEAKER_03]: They're gonna see some of that film.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_03]: They're gonna see some of that closing speed that he has and the way he gets off in the fourth quarter And they're gonna be really interested to put him to work and see, but the two guys that I would say I'm most intrigued to see is how they perform at the combine and I think they're both gonna tear it up One was a star at the senior bow Grace and Halton showed what an impact player he can be last couple years on the OU defensive line on the interior
- 14:58[SPEAKER_03]: and the others kindle Daniels, you know, so big, so rangey, so versatile, pretty smart on the both on the outside and the perimeter of the edges of the defense.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_03]: I think both of those guys have a real chance to be long time professional athletes.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_01]: Avert, when you look at a guy like
- 15:20[SPEAKER_01]: run a certain number in the 40 and then because I think that once people talk to them, when you look at production stuff this year, it's going to be, hey, don't forget my quarterbacks hand popped and was broken and really only Isaiah has attained a carried on production and things like that, but
- 15:39[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just kind of curious what you think a guy like Dion Berks needs to do, because he's just had.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_01]: If we asked him way back when he initially arrived at Oklahoma, I don't think he would have charted up this being the path for him of deal with so many injuries a couple years ago, and then healthy this past year, but the whole offense production wise through the air took a dip once geometry was totally healthy.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_02]: yeah and he he talks about that after the loss to Alabama how this season didn't go nearly the way that he anticipated it going obviously been a tough a couple of years uh... form with injuries uh... things like that but uh... when deon birx has been healthy and had a quarterback and get him the ball the production has been there
- 16:20[SPEAKER_02]: And I think, so for him, it's, you know, putting up the measurables, which I think he's got a pretty good shot at doing pretty well in, you know, Dion Berg's has the ability to stretch the field and we've seen him be a deep target.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_02]: But I think he's a guy who has a real chance to significantly,
- 16:40[SPEAKER_02]: Upgrade his draft stock during the combine and the lead up to the draft.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I'm also looking forward to the other couple defensive linemen that Y'all haven't talked about much.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_02]: Marvin Jones and Dominic Williams.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_02]: There guys who have
- 16:57[SPEAKER_02]: Marvin Jones, especially, you just look at the pedigree for him, the expectations for him entering his college career never quite lived up to that, but you saw it in flashes.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_02]: And I think in Dominic Williams a little bit, not the same, but I think in Oklahoma's off or defense.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_02]: wasn't asked to make a ton of plays.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_02]: It was more about, you know, clogging things up and, you know, directing tackles to other guys that put up big numbers.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_02]: So I think those are two guys who have a chance to really make a significant leap as well, just because I think maybe their guys who can find a role in the NFL that maybe goes even beyond what they had in college.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_01]: Combine kicks off officially, February 23rd, up in Indie runs through March the 2nd or 3rd, I believe, as we know that process takes a good while to get through.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_01]: Other last bit of news that popped through on Wednesday, Oklahoma has hired a new doctor of recruiting, Molly Jakobi, she has stepped in previous work at Florida State, among other places that's the most direct situation there.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_01]: So another moment where you look at it
- 18:18[SPEAKER_01]: And continuing to support the front office staff, the coaching staff, all that, that this is all part of that whole big operation, which if you've ever been down to a game and Norman, you know what we're talking about, you look down, pre game, right as the teams warming up before the bands getting ready to get on the field, you look in the south in zone and there's just a
- 18:37[SPEAKER_01]: hordes of recruits and families and all that all over the place.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: That is a big, big, big recruiting staff that they do much much more than just organize that.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that's probably the moment that most fans would see that recruiting staff as they're kind of getting after it and getting all that done.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_01]: So, welcome aboard.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_01]: Molly, welcome to Norman.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, a little bit different than Tallahassee, but I can tell you our Starbucks way more clean than the Tallahassee Starbucks.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_01]: So I can tell you that based off of multiple trips through, uh, is far as that goes.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_01]: John, we, we also had, uh, not necessarily on Wednesday.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_01]: I know there was a lot coming out Wednesday, specifically, but over the past week, we've had the Southeastern Conference announced their revenue distribution.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_01]: I know that you kind of tackled that head on when that came through.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_01]: Leaving one year early from the big 12 meant that some of that money is rerouting to the big 12 by means of buyout stuff like that and these are the financials for last year Not this year because this year is not done yet because while we think in football season it goes all the way through the winter sports and spring sports all that stuff
- 19:46[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, oh, you get, oh, you in Texas get a partial shared so we're talking about their first year in the SEC, oh, you got 2.6 million dollars from the SEC distribution revenue distribution model 2.6.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_03]: that's extremely low.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_03]: That was lower than that was shockingly low.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_03]: Texas got 12.6 so why Texas get 10 million more because they went to the college for what playoff they produced more.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_03]: So simple equation like I said as first year members you get a really reduced share.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_03]: They had to pay that $100,000,000 by out, remember, to go to leave a year early.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, you in Texas combined $100,000,000 to go to the big 12.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_03]: So there's that.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_03]: But when you're looking at, you know, why did oh, you go to the SEC?
- 20:36[SPEAKER_03]: Why did Texas go to the SEC?
- 20:38[SPEAKER_03]: Real quick on the numbers.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_03]: In 2019, the SEC distributed $45 million around about to its members, 2019, so pre-COVID, okay, before anything went haywire, talking regular numbers, $45 million.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, you got about $42 million from the big 12.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_03]: So the SEC 45, oh, you in Texas, about 42.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_03]: So right there with them.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_03]: Next year.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, 2025 fiscal year.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, you as project.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sorry.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_03]: The big 12 is coming off of 30.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_03]: What was it?
- 21:16[SPEAKER_03]: 30 million?
- 21:18[SPEAKER_03]: Currently 30 just around 30 something 33 million 31 million per big 12 school.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_03]: SEC schools this year.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_03]: Guess what they got?
- 21:27[SPEAKER_03]: Big total picture, SEC schools this year, they got an average, the 14 full member schools, got an average of 72 million dollars.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_03]: So we're talking more than twice as much next year.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_03]: If we use just this year's numbers and the last big 12 distribution.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_03]: more than twice as much next year and then that's only going to grow that and that divide is only going to get wider so we're talking seventy five eighty eighty five and ninety million dollars for SEC schools coming up that's why Oklahoma went to the SEC
- 22:03[SPEAKER_01]: But in Ryan, I'm sure you remember this just from covering Carson was not having to deal with this, which is great.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_01]: But overlaying the maps of here's what everyone's currently getting and here are all the projections and by 2035, it's going to be that that was we did a lot of that when the move was made and if I recall correctly, the conservative projections still had the SEC in the mid 60s.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_01]: Till mostly 2030, check notes, that was the 24, 25 numbers, and they're already in the mid 60s.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_01]: It seems that this is rapidly growing, which means that you factor in, oh, you're getting a full share in what is currently this year, plus you get cost to a playoff money, all that stuff, and bottom boom, bottom being.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_01]: That is why Josie and Joe Harris, when the initial financials came out, they're like,
- 22:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to look bad, but we knew this don't worry about it.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody freaked out and I don't think it would just freak it out.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no, and, you know, I talked to Joe, to stick on about this when, right after, oh, you made the early jump to the SEC, and he said, hey, this is going to be a short term hit that we're going to take, and it's going to be significant.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_02]: And it turns out it's about a $44 million deficit plus.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_02]: uh... but the uh... how quickly that gets you into these numbers that are just astronomical made it worth it uh... to take that short term hit and i i think also
- 23:34[SPEAKER_02]: It's important to note that OU has been one of the few athletic departments around the country that's operated at a profit and not taken money from the university, whether it's, you know, student fees or any kind of, you know, money directly from the university.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_02]: It's sort of been self-funding.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_02]: So they had the ability to absorb this kind of hit and still keep moving forward.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you look at the numbers, you know, the revenue numbers are up.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_02]: Let's see, I'm looking at, you know, football revenue was down six million last year.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_02]: But again, we knew that that was going to take a hit with with the move and some of the money that that lost them from there, but that's still
- 24:25[SPEAKER_02]: not a bad gap there from from what they were facing or would have been facing otherwise.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that those those numbers are going to it's going to be sort of a mind boggling next year to take a look at the same financial report and line it up against the 2020-25 numbers and even the 2024 numbers which is one of the things I'm working on right now with 2024 and 2025.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_02]: and see just how beneficial this move has been for for Oklahoma.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_02]: And you can tell it, I was just looking at the ticket revenue numbers, which are something that we can sort of compare.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_02]: And football, ticket revenue was up right about $7 million.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_02]: from 2020-2040.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_02]: You think about the schedule that owe you had this year bringing in Michigan, bringing in or actually that was last year.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_02]: Excuse me.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_02]: We're talking about the first year of the SEC with some of the teams that they brought in Alabama, some of the other ones that came in and the difference in that home schedule versus the home schedule that they had in the big 12 and it's significant and I think this is a move that's going to pay off
- 25:40[SPEAKER_02]: But again, the short term, there's going to be some short term pain for them this year, which we saw in those reports.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_03]: It's like it's like taking a job, taking a new job, and first you have to pay your moving expenses and your moving expenses are significant.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_03]: So you got to take a step back.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_03]: But your new job is going to pay you two and a half times more than what your old job is paying you.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_03]: So just a little dip this year.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_03]: I saw where SEC revenue last year, last fiscal year was almost $54 million per school.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_03]: Again, this year's more than 72.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_03]: So you're talking almost $19 million difference per school just from one year to the next.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_01]: And to really put the cherry on top of all that, too, something that, you know, an abour is going to have all the OU financials.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_01]: We're just combing through it right now, the presented in a way that is readable as opposed to carry the one, all that stuff.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_01]: But when you look at last year's financials, you also have to remember when you go back to an eight game conference schedule.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_01]: And one of those conference games is at a neutral site.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_01]: You're on an unbalanced.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_01]: conference home game versus back in the big tell you do that you're going to have one neutral site game four and four home game road game when you're in eight game schedule you're going to play home non-conference game so it offsets that but the revenue for a Michigan weekend but then the revenue for an Ole Miss coming in for all of that is going to be much much different than sorry to whoever the non-conference one we
- 27:08[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 27:08[SPEAKER_01]: So that'll be something that will look a lot better and will be in the coffers on top of a playoff game when we get this current season that we just finished numbers at this time next year and then beyond that as well go into the nine game schedule.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_01]: You're back to where you were in the big 12 where you know every year you're going to have balanced home, balance road, plus the non, or not the non-conference.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_01]: Excuse me, the neutral site,
- 27:33[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, it's not as simple as, oh, if you could just, you know, tighten about for one year, but Oklahoma had multiple years.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_01]: They knew this by out was going to be coming, whatever that number was.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_01]: They had plenty of time to plan for and they will be sure to catch it all on the back end here in this fiscal year.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_01]: I think that no one is overly
- 27:50[SPEAKER_01]: panic something that I guess in the future could maybe up the revenue for a non-conference weekend would be if a game like Bedlam got back on the schedule as opposed to pick again sorry to land it up me to hate on to land pay it we'll pick on Illinois State this time if you're
- 28:09[SPEAKER_01]: replaced Illinois State, an actual championship participant in their own right with Oklahoma State.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_01]: Then I think that would do a little bit better.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_01]: Carson, you saw this.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think the OU Daily was at the Norman City Council meeting.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_01]: I believe that this came through.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if the mayor's know how this all works, but nonetheless it sounds like Norman and so what are trying to brainstorm ways to make something happen.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_00]: Before I get into this, I think we replace Kent State instead of Illinois State.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_00]: Illinois State, at least did make the FCS Natty Kent State there, but anyway, yes, it sounds like the mayors of both Norman and still water have signed co-authored, I believe, is the bourbon they used.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_00]: Co-authored some legislation to make it a requirement that Oklahoma and Oklahoma State
- 28:55[SPEAKER_00]: play every year in football, obviously a non-conference game, which that's not an easy thing to do with they're only being three non-conference games now.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_00]: So there's a lot of things.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not really sure how that's possible to require from a state legislation.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_00]: rivalry to be played.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_00]: I think a lot of people would be invested in that though.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_00]: I know a lot of OU fans want to see OSU back, same with OSU fans wanting OU back.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_00]: So it would be interesting.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_00]: I know from my perspective, I've never seen the Battle of the Game of Hurt, it's a really fun atmosphere, two very passionate fan bases.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_00]: So I think a lot of people would like to see the game back, but I'll believe this more when I see this really fall into place.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I have DM to Peter Doosey at Fox News and asked him if he would just next press conference from Trump with Trump with he would just say, Mr. Trump, Mr. President, how do you feel about the Bedlam series in Oklahoma?
- 29:51[SPEAKER_03]: And just get, I mean, get at the mayoral level, right?
- 29:54[SPEAKER_03]: Get some input there and then just get the presidential level too.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_03]: We'll just skip the states all together and we'll put pressure on him from both what both sides.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_03]: Could you hear Trump talking about Bedlam?
- 30:03[SPEAKER_03]: Mike Gundy the heck of a coach that would be so awesome.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, which I could do a Trump impersonation He would have to know anything about football other than the kickoff role, which appears to be the only thing that he's obsessed with tweeting about other than clogging up things at And you know drive the USFL into the ground that and not see he signed horses walker
- 30:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he does that.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_01]: He also knows how to lose an NFL bid.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_01]: Shout out to the buffalo bills.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, which is the pagoulas.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_03]: How many Army Navy games have you attended, Ryan?
- 30:34[SPEAKER_01]: Well, none, but I would like to get there, but yeah.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, if the president has anything to do with it, he has about as much power when it comes to this stuff as the mayors do because as we were joking up beforehand, this is something that pops up when I wasn't ready to spin our conference realignment wheel today, but how many times when the pack 12 was trying to go through and then the big 12 and SEC do we see
- 31:01[SPEAKER_01]: So, and so, and the Texas Legislator has put forward something that like Texas and Texas Tech can't be separate and low and behold, Texas Tech's in the Big 12 and Texas in the SEC and UCLA's in the Big 10 and Cal's not.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_03]: And some new guy from the state of Texas, some new Legislator wants, hey, how come they play that thing at Dallas every year?
- 31:22[SPEAKER_03]: How come they don't play it on campus?
- 31:23[SPEAKER_03]: We want them in Austin.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_03]: Somebody's just, okay, calm down, skip me then.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_03]: We know this is your first year.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_03]: It's not how government works.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_01]: Greg Sanky rules an iron fist.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think Greg Sanky is a little bit more cooking a little bit more cashier than nothing against our mayors of Norman and still water, but I mean, hey, even Trump might have to call Sanky for a favor.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's what it's my fault.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_01]: I think that they all have to get sake to come and talk on Capitol Hill with all that stuff.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_01]: I think that I was sitting there going to these guys, are they running for something soon?
- 31:53[SPEAKER_01]: I know I just saw that Mayor Holt was doing stuff.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, that's the only thing I think of when politics gets into college football.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they try to win.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_01]: What elections coming up?
- 32:01[SPEAKER_01]: Because the easy points to bank.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm not holding my breath there.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_01]: Also, one last little section here on the football.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's let's all point and laugh at Nebraska.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, did you see what is coming out of Lincoln a story that we knew had happened.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_01]: We knew Scott Frost tried to dodge Oklahoma because coming out of the 2020 season, he had to answer questions at the press conference in March of 2021 saying, I didn't want to avoid Oklahoma because I was scared of playing them.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_01]: It's all that revenue.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_01]: That was going to be a road game.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_01]: We wanted home games.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone's running in the red for all this stuff.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_01]: Turns out that, uh,
- 32:37[SPEAKER_01]: here's the secret here's how you go from college football power to off the map first you can leave your territory recruiting grounds you can do all that or john you can just run an athletic department like it sounds like nebraska did where you had one coach in micro ily who wasn't lifted weights you had another coach in scott for us who was not the eighties choice apparently it uh the whole thing i was like man uh
- 32:59[SPEAKER_01]: It gives you depreciation, especially as Josie is on his way out of it's like, was everything perfect at all times across a near 30 year reign?
- 33:08[SPEAKER_01]: No, but we didn't opt in here anything that looked sounded or even smelled like this.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you've got Bob DeVanie in 1962, Tom Osborne Retires in 1997, between that area, you had two coaches, I don't know, six national championships, crazy, crazy success, and then they go from that to Frank Solich, who only won 75% of his games before being fired, then Bill Callahan, Wolf, 55%, then Bill Palini, 71%, you're thinking, okay, we got this figured out, no, they fired him too.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_03]: then Mike Riley comes in and he 500 and they're saying Nebraska coaches can't possibly be 500 can they come on this is terrible next guy's got frost he wins 34% of his games you're out of here Matt rule he just head of stays in last year where they finally get to go back to a bowl game and he's 19 and 19 and his three years me
- 34:00[SPEAKER_03]: or four years.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_03]: That's insane.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_03]: That is insane.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_03]: So that's where Nebraska football is because of lack of leadership.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_03]: You got the former AD coming out on a podcast after he writes a memoir saying I had the president, the chancellor and a regent were my bosses and they were all calling me tell me who they've hired and who they've extended and who's got new contracts.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: stunning stunning for a program that size of that success that much of a that close to being a blue blood what they should be it's just a stunning lack of leadership and vision by the people in charge and link in the braskin that's where you hope that uh... for local homies right dinner comes in he is what four days for officially officially being on the clock we heard uh... you know rentals even to talk about this is some of it knows how to not only build a plan but executed alignment synergy but
- 34:54[SPEAKER_01]: uh... that's where you haven't had to worry about it because uh... everything behind the scenes has been pretty good other than uh... basketball coach here a bad season here there it's been pretty smooth sailing for a close-out like department for a long time under joccey and uh... that is the goal for roger today as long may it continues things change rapidly across the country as we've discussed at nazi here over these last
- 35:17[SPEAKER_01]: couple of podcasts, things changing a lot, seasons changing kind of for us, not like winter spring all that, but we officially fired up softball season this past weekend, but before we dive into any of the action on the field, Ryan, we had a big moment off the field that was announced Thursday, just hours before the sooner has got underway.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_01]: against Arizona State, Oklahoma, associate head coach, pitching coach, Jin Rocha, who is widely considered as one of the pitching gurus, whispers, one of the best just assistance, a two-time assistant of the year winner, one of the best pitching coaches across
- 35:54[SPEAKER_01]: So I thought if I could say one of just a great humans in coaching, it's announced that she is taking a leave of absence from the team for a health matter, former OU pitcher Carly Keene, who had spent four years at Liberty, transferred in, pitched on the 2024 National Championship winning team, last year served as a student assisting pitching coach,
- 36:15[SPEAKER_01]: working under Rochan, working with the team a year ago.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_01]: She was back home finishing up a further postgraduate degree with Liberty.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_01]: She is now your interim pitching coach Ryan.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_01]: And before we can dive into anything that happened on the field, this is a major major major
- 36:32[SPEAKER_01]: Moment a major change and obviously the first and foremost everyone's thoughts are with Coach Rocha and the Rocha family and everything hoping that she's back sooner rather than later, but it's hard to understand how big of a shake up this comes, especially because it literally came a week before the season, not not even.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, just the story of how it came together is wild, and I guess first of all, like you said, our thoughts are with Jen Rocha and her family.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_02]: Hopefully she's, you know, back down there, calling the pitch is sooner rather than later, but Carlycini was actually in the Dallas area.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_02]: at Kinsey Hanson and Kobe McKinsey's wedding when Patty Gesso called TRA Jennings and is like, hey, can you see Carly there?
- 37:21[SPEAKER_02]: Is she down there?
- 37:22[SPEAKER_02]: Tell her to come see me a Norman if she can and
- 37:27[SPEAKER_02]: she did, they talked, talked face to face, and apparently Carly Keene's mother had a vision that OU needed her at some point this year, and Patty Gassos said there was never, well, there was never any hesitation on Jen Roach's part that, hey, this is who you need to go get for this role, she's the right fit.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_02]: And then there was never any hesitation on Carly Keene's part that, hey, this is what I'm going to do.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_02]: She actually flew from Kentucky to, uh, actually, I guess what was a drawback to Kentucky, uh, after the meeting with Patty, then, uh, flew out to Arizona, uh, to meet the team, flew back to Kentucky, uh, to get her things and, and head back to Norman, uh, for the season.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_02]: Just a wild way that this came together.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_02]: but talking to Patty Gasso and some of the players yesterday Audrey Lowery in particular.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_02]: They say Carlycini's demeanor is perfect for this.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_02]: She's sort of like a mini-gen Rocha in the way that she goes about things and says,
- 38:36[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, they had to sort of tell Carly, hey, we're going to give you the the rains here.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_02]: You can have the the freedom to do what you need to do and not be just tight with everything.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_02]: Said they figured out some things over the first weekend, but it's going to be really interesting to see how that all plays out and how patty gassos roll maybe shifts a little bit in the framework of you know pitching coaches, calling pitches, things like that.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's something that, uh, it with no timetable for co-trochan and Patty went into a little bit of the timetable yesterday.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_01]: If you missed anything that we had yesterday coming out of Tuesday's availability, two places had to whoves you to page John Hoover media.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_01]: You can watch the entire Patty Gasso media interview.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_01]: We talked to as Abers said to Audrey Lowry and Gabby Garcia.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_01]: They very informative just of what the vibe is and with Carly Keene, but Patty had talked about that,
- 39:34[SPEAKER_01]: Jinroch had had a procedure to do some, I think she described it, Ryan, as some exploratory things, just to try and get some more answers from the doctors.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_01]: That was going to keep her sideline for six weeks.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_01]: She joke that she was like immediately back in the office, basically, and Paddy's like, please just rest, but I get it.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_01]: Then she had another one that for more stuff from the doctors, more tests and things like that, and it sounds like it was,
- 39:59[SPEAKER_01]: uh... you mentioned at the timing of win was the kinsley hands of any that was saturday the saturday before the season started so we had players leaving media day to head right down there yeah players in the media to head down there carley kitty was not in norman until the sunday as in like first pitch game one is Thursday sunday we need to come here all that stuff so this is a very very very new operation and i think you saw the good
- 40:24[SPEAKER_01]: of it as Thursday night, Oklahoma goes blow for blow with Quincy Brown who I know that her name's not an injury candidate, but I think that people not acknowledging she was a first team all American last year, you just weren't paying attention and that's okay, but she went blow for blow that the pitching staff did, Audrey Lowery basically left one ball out there, ended up over the fence, otherwise one hit from Lowery, Miley Wachanio comes in and gets out of that with the four
- 40:51[SPEAKER_01]: everyone focused on just the absolute meltdown on Friday night in the sixth inning.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_01]: I have to wonder Ryan how much of that was you have a new picture in Wachaneo who gets two pitch clock violations that patty gaso was not looking to talk about yesterday because uh
- 41:10[SPEAKER_01]: I can do the talking, I can say what was on said, what the heck was that?
- 41:14[SPEAKER_01]: That was what Patty was thinking.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_01]: And then, between all of that, Patty admitted that they probably tried to be a little too hands-on with Carly Keating, Carly Keating, who's like, can I just call the game?
- 41:24[SPEAKER_01]: You probably did it in a nicer way than that.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_01]: So I think this next weekend is going to be really, really important.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_01]: You've got five games, all manageable, the biggest name you've got is Minnesota, probably Saturday morning, that
- 41:37[SPEAKER_01]: If, uh, this is a big weekend for workout, the king, so get everybody more familiar because you think about it, two freshmen, two transfers.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_01]: That's four of the six pictures that Carly Keene probably was sitting down with Wednesday night in the conference room going, okay, so what do you like to throw?
- 41:52[SPEAKER_01]: When do you like to throw it?
- 41:53[SPEAKER_01]: How do I want that?
- 41:55[SPEAKER_01]: It's, it's kind of incredible that they want a top 20 series against Arizona that way.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it really is, but I think it also speaks to how great Audrey Lowery pitched this weekend, who was one of the pictures that Carlycini was a very familiar with, and Audrey Lowery sort of carried the load for them, pitching-wise, I think, what through, like, two-thirds.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_02]: of their innings, if not a touch more than that, she was fantastic, got all three of the wins and you know, I'll have a story by the time this podcast posts up on Audrey Lauer, he's performance over the weekend, but I think this weekend, it's going to be about the rest of that pitching staff, getting Sydney Burzon, you know, Miley Gochino, Watchino, and some of those other pictures go on.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_02]: I think we saw some good things.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_02]: out of some of those other pitchers, you know, Bersan, especially in the short time that she was able to pitch, Alyssa Parker was really impressive with the job that she did, and then just specifically going back to Audrey Lowery, the performance that she had on Sunday coming out of the bullpen and being able to, you know, stop the bleeding there a little bit
- 43:11[SPEAKER_02]: let you let their offense have a chance to get back in the game.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_02]: I think was maybe one of the the biggest things about the weekend and certainly they need her to keep rolled in a long but I think this weekend again is about bringing around the rest of that pitching staff and getting it to be a much more even proposition than just one pitcher carrying the load all weekend.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_03]: One thing Ryan, I noticed real quick on just looking at the roster Parker is 5 foot 11 Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay Zekay
- 44:02[SPEAKER_01]: they got some tall pitchers and I mean they got three they got three six fighters they could go challenge the basketball team but anyone can judge basketball teams are awful but that's either he or there that's because Porter Moser's a terrible basketball coach which will get to yeah and she you've got that Carly I think Carly was a sit by the 11 when she's 10 I can tell you
- 44:25[SPEAKER_01]: I went with 511 because Karly taller than me by a good amount.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a solid 59 and she seemed 5...
- 44:31[SPEAKER_01]: Regardless, has that there in Patty who talked about it too.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't just that first off, Karly's available at that moment, but someone that knows how Jin Rochil White likes to call games, how she likes to coach it.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think Coach Rochil is still going to be around.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_01]: Aren't you allowed to always talk about
- 44:46[SPEAKER_01]: Rocha texted him after the games and things like that and while it may not be in the dugout Things I have to imagine as long as she's feeling well enough to look at film and things based off of how Patty talked about Her earlier situations it seems like she will have the film in hand if she's filling up to it So we'll see that'll be kind of a growing thing and hey if you want to if you need more you're like
- 45:09[SPEAKER_01]: Man, I wish that this would blabber on a little bit longer.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_01]: Abraham and I, starting next week, will be on Mondays doing a recap little softball show for you guys going through the whole weekend, everything going on there.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_01]: Easiest way.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to find it, it'll still be on Hoon's YouTube page.
- 45:26[SPEAKER_01]: It'll still drop in this podcast feed, exact same per usual.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_01]: So you don't have to go out and search for it.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_01]: We'll label it the softball show.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_01]: I would get super creative a name it, but it just owe you softball.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_01]: You know what you want it boom.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_01]: and we will blabber on about that for a good bit.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it's going to be an interesting couple of weekends here as they ramp up in.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_01]: We'll still talk about it and we still have plenty of coverage.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma soon is on si.com.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_01]: As a per se, he's got a couple stories drop in here over a little bit.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_01]: I got the big weekend preview.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_01]: All that stuff coming.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma soon is on si.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_01]: dot com we're in the middle of which means we'll be get going there not the only diamonds work it and going we know baseball shifted back one weekend we know this Carson down in our linkedin it'll be uh TCU tech in OSU not in that order i actually did it i didn't even do reverse order i just shifted it all around it we tech out the gate did Oklahoma State on Saturday didn't TCU on Sunday uh something that i just can't
- 46:26[SPEAKER_01]: because that's something that, you know, we talked about it last week that you were there at media day skip hit talked about that's a guy that has earned this opening day starter role and that I think is going to be when when you talk about rebuilding a staff, what can you get out of him as a guy that is familiar with the coaching staff fully with skip in the pitching staff, just going to have to take on a much, much bigger role here in 2026 and he didn't 2025.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I know we talked a lot last week about how important the pitching staff is going to be because that's almost completely different without the weather spoon, some other guys no longer there.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_00]: So Cam Johnson is just going to be more than anything.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_00]: These three games are kind of a benchmark of where the teams have to start the year, but with such a new team, which skip Johnson talked about last week, it's going to take some time just like it does for.
- 47:09[SPEAKER_00]: just about every program nationally, that's just the state of college baseball, but a good outing from Cam Johnson would be encouraging in a game against a respectable opponent, Texas Tech, not what they once were at baseball, but still a good squad, a lot of talent, just like any power team they will see early in this year.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and I also, I know I mentioned this last week, but love the way the schedule was designed three tough games to start.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_00]: Then they play also.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think New Mexico State, that game was supposed to be in Norman, got moved.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be on Monday and Arlington.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_00]: Not as challenging, but that's a good mid major before playing Cop and State.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_00]: Those should be three.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_00]: fairly easy wins if we're being honest, and then it ramps up, Gonzaga, Arizona State, Santa Clara, three pretty good programs.
- 47:52[SPEAKER_00]: So I like that they're getting challenged before playing in the gauntlet that is the best at the best baseball conference in the nation.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_00]: So it'll be interesting, a lot of things to work out, a lot of things that we don't really know.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_00]: There's obviously an expectation of power this year.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_00]: So that should be pretty cool to see, but pitching is what I'm
- 48:13[SPEAKER_01]: pitching, and then I know Skip Johnson is very excited about this freshman class that they brought in, and I think that nobody better example for that than Alec Blair guy that was in the news early in the basketball season, because the dual sport guy decided to hone in and really, really focus on the day to day grind of the baseball season as a guy that could come out there, and we might just see him hanging out in the outfield day and day out every single day.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_01]: Carson, it feels very, very similar like the stuff that we all were looking for this past weekend out near Arizona for the baseball side pitching freshman.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_01]: Those are those are my first two questions and I think that my first two questions for skips crew as well.
- 48:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, without a doubt, people forget that Alec Blair did play one game for the basketball team this year's score to point.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_00]: We will never forget where we were when Alec Blair scored his one point for OU basketball.
- 49:04[SPEAKER_00]: But he's expected to be good.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's a reason I don't think it was any falling out between him, Porter Moser, the basketball team.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_00]: I think it is okay.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_00]: I can be probably a professional in baseball, it's really dang hard to make it as a basketball player.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_00]: I have a good pipeline to make an effort early.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_00]: I look blurry even though he, I guess he technically would have burned his wrench here this year playing basketball because he did only play in one game.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_00]: Um, he probably wouldn't have been a key part of that rotation.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_00]: Baseball, I think he will contribute immediately.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_00]: He's one of many guys that I know perfect game had OU's class, highly ranked, a lot of the outlets did.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_00]: So skip John some things that not only the returners can be good players, but also these young guys.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_00]: So if they can live up to his building even a little bit, I think that shouldn't make them competitive.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_00]: I know that they're picked.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was 14th in the SEC preseason poll, but
- 49:57[SPEAKER_00]: realistically when you look at this league, there could easily be 14 teams that make it to the tournament.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_00]: It really is that stacked.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_00]: The SEC in baseball is kind of what the SEC used to be in football.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_00]: Or at least what people thought the SEC wasn't football.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_00]: It is that good almost every year has the national champion.
- 50:16[SPEAKER_00]: So it's gonna be a fun ride interested to see how they shake up against some of the other best teams in the league.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_01]: Skip, Skip is no stranger to having to replace his entire rotation, what's leads to, like, lowered preseason expectations, and I don't think he's gonna be too bothered by that whatsoever.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll get that going.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder if Porter's old pal, Alec Blair hit up some of the guys on Saturday and was like, you did it.
- 50:41[SPEAKER_01]: You're off the Schneide, Oklahoma, heads to Memorial, Colosseum,
- 50:46[SPEAKER_01]: And for about 35 minutes of that game, it was probably a cathartic experience.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_01]: Holy cow, they finally put it all together.
- 50:55[SPEAKER_01]: They didn't have, they had the little wobble in the first half carcin, but it wasn't like a massive scoring drought.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_01]: They were able to reestablish for more half time.
- 51:02[SPEAKER_01]: Then you get to the last, we'll call it four minutes, three and a half minutes, where the hoof jinx, not in play for the Super Bowl, it was in play when he texted the group and was like, what a great win with five minutes left and then I think I tweeted this out, Carson, only
- 51:24[SPEAKER_01]: which snaps a losing streak that would have tied to school record and still make you somehow feel maybe worse about the whole situation but they got the win and that's all that matters.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_00]: They did and they'd be a good Vanderbilt team and yeah, there are a lot of things you can say about those last fourish minutes of the game.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_00]: On one hand, Tyler Tanner Vanderbilt's best player that wasn't the game Duke Miles former sooner was not available.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_00]: Tyler Tanner was magnificent.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_00]: Those last few minutes was colder early, thinking he made every shot in that last stretch, including the one at the horn.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_00]: which made it a one point game as time expired, so he was great, but it was also sloppy basketball from the sooner some more turnovers, oh you did it in the game with I think 14 turnovers some more than Vanderbilt had, a lot of those came late, so the free throw shooting just holistically wasn't amazing all day, I think it was Xavier Brown hit the final two to make it the two possession game in the final second, so that ultimately did give them the win,
- 52:27[SPEAKER_00]: Understandable.
- 52:28[SPEAKER_00]: They have lost a lot of close games.
- 52:30[SPEAKER_00]: They're kind of used to it and it looked like it was just going to be another one in that pattern.
- 52:34[SPEAKER_00]: Did it happen though?
- 52:36[SPEAKER_00]: Like I said, Xavier Brown and clutch free throws at BN and it really did.
- 52:39[SPEAKER_00]: They had a big enough pad.
- 52:41[SPEAKER_00]: They were off.
- 52:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was 19 points for three minutes, 30 seconds.
- 52:45[SPEAKER_00]: more than anything, I think Vanderbilt ran out of time.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_00]: I know that's kind of a cliche that a lot of coaches use, but I think in this case, that's very accurate to what we were seeing on the floor.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_00]: But nonetheless, it's a win.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's a win against one of the leagues better teams, which that's necessary to have, as you mentioned in the intro, first part of this week off.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_00]: And then it's a tough stretch.
- 53:05[SPEAKER_00]: Then it's Georgia, Tennessee, A&M, Auburn,
- 53:08[SPEAKER_00]: barring something crazy all four of those should be tournament teams this year so even just getting a win even if it wasn't the prettiest ending that is big for maybe they have a chance to win one two um that would still be a step up from what we have seen what we had seen for the month leading up to that Vanderbilt game.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_01]: important to get the exhale I think going into a week long of I know we call it the off week but yeah I can't imagine regardless if they had not had this KG situation there at the end of the game and all that stuff.
- 53:41[SPEAKER_01]: Just stay be able to
- 53:42[SPEAKER_01]: Exhale, you saw kind of the celebration scenes in the locker room after that Oklahoma put out and just to my gosh, they hadn't won in like 35 days.
- 53:49[SPEAKER_01]: And to go into this big long week, I could have imagined that.
- 53:52[SPEAKER_01]: So maybe a little bit of reset for the sooner's we shall see, we'll reconnect with them here on the weekend.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_01]: Monday night, it was a back-to-back billing for the sooner's in Nashville.
- 54:03[SPEAKER_01]: It was the sooner women and Ryan stopped me if you've heard this before.
- 54:07[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma playing a bona fide top 10, top 15 team.
- 54:12[SPEAKER_01]: Goes in has terrible feel for the game early, turns the ball over like wildfire, digs himself a 20-point hole, goes into half time and credits to them for resetting and trying to make a charge out of the break, but it was too little too late and, uh, wild, Texas and very different teams while LSU and Texas and very different teams, uh, different chapter same script.
- 54:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, really you look at sort of all of their games against top 10 opponents with the exception of South Carolina, which, you know, again, we talked about a couple weeks ago, wasn't a fluke, they went in there and played really well or went at LNC and played really well, but yeah, this is becoming the script and I would say, hey, they've got to figure out a way to fix this, but
- 54:59[SPEAKER_02]: the next time that they face an opponent like this is not going to be likely until the SEC tournament, potentially until the NCAA tournament, the schedule lightens up significantly, no more games against top 20 opponents, the rest of the way, but
- 55:16[SPEAKER_02]: If Oklahoma is to get where they want to get and where they feel like they have the potential to get, which is deep, deep into the second or even third weekend of the NCAA tournament, they've got to figure out a way to start these games better and they were just in so big of a hole earlier that early that they couldn't come out of it, had to try to shoot their way
- 55:46[SPEAKER_02]: uh... camera exactly what the number wound up being uh... from beyond the arc via chavez doesn't hit a three point out for the first time this season uh... while her numbers wound up being uh... pretty solid uh... overall scoring wise really struggle from outside struggled with the turn in the ball over
- 56:05[SPEAKER_02]: Reagan Bears again, put up some really good shooting numbers, really good rebounding numbers, but Vandy did some different things to her defensively that made her struggle at times, especially again with the turnover there.
- 56:19[SPEAKER_02]: And they've just,
- 56:22[SPEAKER_02]: This is a team that I think still has a lot of potential, but outside of that South Carolina game, I haven't shown it against the best opponents on their schedule, and that could wind up really biting them when the tournament bracket comes out, could potentially cost them a top four seed.
- 56:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's something that it's a different conversation and I know the committees are different year to year and for the men's to the women's tournament, but if you remember back Porter's first year they played a ton of quad one games lost all those quad one games and the committee basically came out and said you had opportunities and you showed us you lost them.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_01]: for the sooner women it's a different conversation they've only got six losses but you look at the quad one games they've played this year they are two and six all six those losses come from the quad one games and while the performance itself wasn't fluke against South Carolina it wasn't like oh my gosh they just hit a ton of threes or anything like that up until java's to go over and over time they're creeping toward everyone coming back and going
- 57:22[SPEAKER_01]: That night was a fluke to a certain extent based off what we've seen when they do everything else.
- 57:26[SPEAKER_01]: You look at it, the latest bracketology, the other five seeds, they're still a four seed, which would mean they'd host a Norman five seeds, or West Virginia, Baylor, Kentucky, Tennessee, Oklahoma, play Tennessee, later on the sheer.
- 57:39[SPEAKER_01]: I know it's not as simple as head to head, blah, blah, blah, same with Kentucky having the wind.
- 57:43[SPEAKER_01]: But the important thing there, as Tennessee and Kentucky both have all the same opportunities
- 57:50[SPEAKER_01]: the what you get night night in the SEC and so I do think they're at very real risk of losing that top four seed and frankly the way they're playing right now I don't know if they should get a top four seed.
- 57:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's just that it's the worst of all the people's frustrations I think where it's like okay, they get going they get sped up and there's no way to slow it down They don't seem to just be like let's just feed beers for a couple positions get it back on track The passing gets air and suddenly look up and it's like it was five minutes of terror But it's five minutes that cost you the entire basketball game
- 58:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think that the, you know, they're playing with two really young guards in Alia Chavez and Zaivan really, really hurts that.
- 58:32[SPEAKER_02]: You wonder if maybe Jenny Baronchek would consider moving, shifting some things around, putting Peyton Verholst even if they had the same five players on the floor.
- 58:43[SPEAKER_02]: Verholston more of a ball handling role just for her experience, her passing ability, uh, things like that because, yeah, when things go south, that's usually, uh, the area where you circle is, hey, this, this didn't go right, uh, for them today, but
- 58:59[SPEAKER_02]: going back to the, uh, brachatology that you're mentioned, you're, you're right about all that, but sign me up for a Jenny Baronshick, uh, Nicky Cullen, uh, match up in the second round of the NCAA tournament, whether that's in Norman or whether it's down in Waco, because that'd be a fun one.
- 59:18[SPEAKER_02]: Well, just be careful with all your travel schedule and I hope that there's no ice involved because good gracious, heaven forbid the home team have to sit around for an extra hour, that it really put them out and really put them at a disadvantage to be at home and be able to stretch out and things like that and not be cramped up on a bus in the ice.
- 59:44[SPEAKER_01]: players' parents were there, Ryan.
- 59:45[SPEAKER_01]: How could you forget that?
- 59:47[SPEAKER_01]: Carson, we will fill you in on the, we'll just do the whole Sherrie V. Molky, and then draw the through lines of how Baylor found the exact same coach, just without as many wins and somehow maybe more unlikable, it's kind of impressive, but that's, hey, we'll hold up, hold up.
- 1:00:03[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody is more unlikable than Kim Molky.
- 1:00:07[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, at least Kim wins.
- 1:00:09[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like...
- 1:00:10[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Kim wins, but...
- 1:00:12[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 1:00:13[SPEAKER_01]: That sounded like a stretch, but...
- 1:00:15[SPEAKER_01]: He's right.
- 1:00:15[SPEAKER_01]: It's hard.
- 1:00:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, at least...
- 1:00:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of like Dan Hurley.
- 1:00:20[SPEAKER_01]: I think that when you look at Yukon, and everyone universally goes... Yeah, that's a lot, but at least he wins, and he knows it.
- 1:00:28[SPEAKER_01]: He knows he's a lot.
- 1:00:29[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 1:00:30[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that Niki knows it.
- 1:00:32[SPEAKER_01]: I think that like Kim knows for sure.
- 1:00:35[SPEAKER_01]: She's like, yeah, I'm Kim Wolkhead.
- 1:00:37[SPEAKER_01]: She don't know.
- 1:00:38[SPEAKER_03]: She invented it.
- 1:00:39[SPEAKER_03]: She's took the mantle from Bobby's knife for that.
- 1:00:42[SPEAKER_01]: You set the rings down on the table and just goes, hey, hey, hey, what's that gonna be?
- 1:00:48[SPEAKER_02]: Because you could have rings, doesn't make you a good person.
- 1:00:51[SPEAKER_00]: No, but...
- 1:00:52[SPEAKER_00]: I would love to sign with Ryan on this one being an alum of the school with Bobby Hurley as the head coach instead of Dan Hurley, I would much rather be coached by Dan Hurley than Bobby.
- 1:01:02[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how much that relates to this women's basketball conversation, but I would take blitting over other things.
- 1:01:10[SPEAKER_01]: Well, and Ryan, as we learn in the biathlon,
- 1:01:14[SPEAKER_01]: Olympic rings just because you're lipid does not make you a good person either a desktop and now take me back It's like no sorry brother, maybe you want the gold, but if you're a bronze medalist I don't think you get to do the oh my gosh, well, it was a big type thing I just watched the the miracle show that the Netflix documentary on on the 1980 hockey team you guys need to watch the hell out of that
- 1:01:34[SPEAKER_03]: There's all about how much everybody hated her Brooks and yet he was the only guy in the world who could have done what they what that team did So they all appreciated him and then I made the stupid decision to watch maybe one of the worst sports movies of all time too for the money.
- 1:01:46[SPEAKER_03]: Have you guys ever seen that?
- 1:01:49[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I'm not sad.
- 1:01:50[SPEAKER_03]: Matthew McConaughey and Michael Corley on what's his name?
- 1:01:55[SPEAKER_03]: Apachino
- 1:01:57[SPEAKER_03]: and it's a sports betting movie and it's literally one of the worst movies I've ever seen don't ever watch it two for the money don't waste your time it's two thousand five is twenty years old is like the red bomb our uh... character come to life they try to make it into this is so stupid
- 1:02:14[SPEAKER_01]: happens, happened well, a chart of cart muscle.
- 1:02:17[SPEAKER_01]: If you weren't watching it, it's super ball for the actual game.
- 1:02:22[SPEAKER_01]: I think he kind of stole the show when it came to the commercials.
- 1:02:25[SPEAKER_01]: Ryan, before we leave, do you have any takes on the hardness level of the ice out in the lot of it?
- 1:02:32[SPEAKER_01]: Sounds like that the figure skating ice and the speed skating ice don't mix.
- 1:02:36[SPEAKER_01]: I did not realize we had different kinds of ice and how is this going to affect USA hockey?
- 1:02:41[SPEAKER_02]: Well, yeah, as somebody who is on ice fairly regularly, there's definitely different kinds of ice, and it's definitely different for needs to be different for different events on it.
- 1:02:54[SPEAKER_02]: But it's been an interesting start for the Olympics.
- 1:02:57[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, like you mentioned, the revelations coming out from the bronze medalists to believe, and if you're the gold medalists in that one, don't you just gotta go over and hit your teammate upside the edge and what the hell are you doing?
- 1:03:12[SPEAKER_02]: Learn some timing because nobody is talking about him today.
- 1:03:16[SPEAKER_02]: They're talking about his teammate and his now ex-girlfriend who apparently talked and said that she didn't, you know, want him to, to air that dirty laundry out.
- 1:03:26[SPEAKER_02]: So just a wild week, but, you know, really looking forward to some more Olympic hockey especially, especially with the US's big-time win over Canada.
- 1:03:37[SPEAKER_01]: Did we peek too early?
- 1:03:38[SPEAKER_01]: That's my only question.
- 1:03:39[SPEAKER_01]: Did the women peek too early?
- 1:03:41[SPEAKER_01]: Usually you want to get through prulums and then build.
- 1:03:43[SPEAKER_01]: I'm scared.
- 1:03:45[SPEAKER_03]: We talked about ice.
- 1:03:49[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I thought this was, maybe we should just have a political podcast.
- 1:03:53[SPEAKER_01]: Our algorithm is going to be screwed up and apologize to everyone real quick.
- 1:03:58[SPEAKER_01]: If Norway wants to do a full US though next week, we better see Instagram post, gold medalist takes
- 1:04:06[SPEAKER_01]: She did on girlfriend out and then we need to I don't know anything about the gold medalist I'm sure you happily married or spoken for whatever, but we need that and then I don't know what Norway does with their trash TV But we need the bronze medalist to either be on the bachelor or Norway, love Island I think that you could just steal the US's shot at love was that VH1 that did that
- 1:04:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think you can just make it shot at love with the bi-athlete and make it into a junk trash reality TV show.
- 1:04:38[SPEAKER_01]: And if you do that in Norway, that is your first path to taking over like American pop culture does.
- 1:04:46[SPEAKER_03]: And for that, that's your Olympic hockey, your Olympics report for 2026, and Carling is still boring.
- 1:04:52[SPEAKER_01]: Shout out to everyone getting it done in both Cortina and Milan and reverse shout out to the ski jumpers for making me read all those stories about you guys, you are all weird.
- 1:05:02[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, that'll do it.
- 1:05:04[SPEAKER_01]: We're not getting into that here today.
- 1:05:05[SPEAKER_01]: We will be back next week here on the suitors on SI podcast with the quadbox here.
- 1:05:11[SPEAKER_03]: I got one quiet little note April 18th April 18th mark your calendars looks like the date for the spring game this year.
- 1:05:18[SPEAKER_03]: Is it gonna be a spring game or is it gonna be a sooner combine or crimson combine?
- 1:05:22[SPEAKER_03]: We don't know yet, but it looks like April 18th is the day that where they have circled on their calendars to do that.
- 1:05:27[SPEAKER_03]: I can tell you guys this.
- 1:05:29[SPEAKER_03]: for the first time in a long time, John Hoover will not be at the spring game this year.
- 1:05:34[SPEAKER_03]: Will not be because that's the exact same date that young Daniel Hoover has identified for her nocturals.
- 1:05:39[SPEAKER_03]: She will be getting married on that day and I will be not in Norman, Oklahoma.
