- 0:27Hey everybody good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So we're about halfway through the month now and people are
- 0:34starting to get a little bit stressed about these long term
- 0:37things that they have already set up and it's like halfway
- 0:39through January and people are starting to get stressed and the
- 0:43question keeps coming up. Well I have this plan and by the
- 0:48end of the year blank, blank, blank, the future pacing is off
- 0:53the rails right now. So it's causing distraction for
- 0:58what you need to focus on in the moment.
- 1:02I can promise you you can future pace all you want, but you have
- 1:06to control the fact that you are not going to stay out in the
- 1:10future. Now, for those who are new to
- 1:12listening here, future pacing is when you are constantly not in
- 1:16the present moment and you were thinking about what's going to
- 1:19happen in a month, a week, a year, six months.
- 1:22The time frame is somewhat irrelevant because it doesn't
- 1:26matter if it's not happening right now.
- 1:27Your future pace and your thinking about somewhere else,
- 1:31something else, someone else, just makes sense when you
- 1:35process it that way. The challenge we have is that
- 1:39the life we live is in the now. It's it's right now.
- 1:42And of course we have to have plans in order to go on
- 1:44vacation. We have to have plans in order
- 1:46to have a business. We have to have plans.
- 1:48And making plans makes people feel safe and it drives
- 1:51certainty. And I am a mad planner, Self
- 1:54confessed. Mad planner, Be the first one to
- 1:57tell you that. That being said, I can't stay
- 2:01out there because it always changes.
- 2:04It always changes. And inevitably, I will shift
- 2:09whatever the plans are. I will find some way to say, OK,
- 2:12well, I think we could do this, or I think we can change this.
- 2:14Or this will look, I'm already looking at how I'm going to
- 2:18shift what I grow, what how I'm going to shift the garden, where
- 2:20I'm going to plant herbs instead because I had a crazy time with
- 2:24mint. And I'm like, oh, people need to
- 2:26grow like mint because it just, it's indestructible.
- 2:29It's the it's the craziest thing in the whole world.
- 2:32Needless to say, the garden is morphing.
- 2:35It always morphs. The farm is always morphing,
- 2:38always shifting, always changing, adding, you know,
- 2:41getting new baby chicks to arrive in April, all these plans
- 2:45I have mad planner, right? Like, that's just the nature of
- 2:48who I am. I get it.
- 2:50At the same time, I have to focus on what's in my sight,
- 2:54because if I don't, I'm not taking care of what I have in
- 2:57front of me. So this particular time of the
- 3:00year can be exceedingly stressful for people because
- 3:04they feel like they're already off track, and it's impossible
- 3:08to already be off track for the end of 2024 when it's the
- 3:12beginning, middle of January. We just don't need to think that
- 3:15way. And if you are causing yourself
- 3:18that, you're actually robbing yourself of the moments, the
- 3:21greatness that surround you. That's why, and we're having
- 3:24this conversation this morning because I can feel it happening.
- 3:27I'm hearing it from people. They're reporting it, they're
- 3:30coming in and they're like, oh, I already blew it.
- 3:32So I have this little challenge with myself and I'm going to use
- 3:35this as an example because I love to tell you the real things
- 3:38and how I do this to myself too. So I love to, you know,
- 3:42obviously I'm Fitbit obsessed. I'm constantly walking, getting
- 3:46steps in and I have a big audacious goal this year.
- 3:49I want to break the 6,000,000 steps with my Fitbit because I'm
- 3:52not broken that one yet and I really want to break that one.
- 3:55So working towards that. But that's a long term goal and
- 3:58I can set it and forget it. Like I just know it and it's in
- 4:00my head. I don't check it.
- 4:02I added a new little goal this year for my learning because my
- 4:06constant and never ending desire to learn led me to this little
- 4:10cool app called Headway. Headway is a very interesting
- 4:14little. It's like summaries for adults
- 4:17instead of like Cliff notes for adults, right?
- 4:19You get a book and you get a summary of it.
- 4:22Now I am a mad reader of full books.
- 4:25Let me be Full disclosure with that.
- 4:26However, I like to listen to them while I walk too, and and
- 4:30so I'm always using Audible. I'm constantly getting books for
- 4:33my Kindle and I added this little app called Headway and I
- 4:37said to myself, oh, Cliff notes for adults, this is awesome
- 4:40summaries. Here we go.
- 4:41Right. So I start going through and
- 4:43after the first day I was like oh I want to do 1A day for 365
- 4:48days. Seemed like a fabulous idea when
- 4:51I said it at, you know, December 31st.
- 4:55So here we go. I I do the whole first week and
- 4:57it's perfect. And I'm like giving myself a
- 4:59Gold Star in my log book and I'm excited because I gave myself a
- 5:02Gold Star and now I end up having the the whole thing with
- 5:07the I lost Winnie last week. I threw my back out.
- 5:11I was absolutely in agony with this.
- 5:15I threw out a couple of ribs had to see the chiropractor.
- 5:18Still can't move my shoulder right.
- 5:20Got to see him again. And it's just an ongoing thing
- 5:23and I I couldn't do the chores that I normally do by myself.
- 5:27It couldn't bend over to tie my shoes.
- 5:29Very annoying. So I'm it's struggling and I
- 5:33completely forget about doing headway because it's not in my
- 5:37routine yet. It's just not in my in my normal
- 5:40routine yet. Is it written in my book?
- 5:42Yes. But guess what?
- 5:43I wasn't looking at my book because I was just trying to
- 5:46survive and get through those days where I couldn't move and I
- 5:49couldn't turn my head. And every time I bent over I was
- 5:51gasping because it hurts so bad. Well, final analysis is I'm not
- 5:56on track with the app. I'm not on track to do 1A day.
- 6:00So now instantly my certainty girl goes, oh, you blew it,
- 6:03you're off track. You're not going to finish with
- 6:05365. And I was like, you know, I I
- 6:09heard myself say this in my head.
- 6:11And right away I just started laughing and I was like, well,
- 6:13now you're just like everybody else doing the same talk.
- 6:17How do you feel you've joined the complaining club?
- 6:19And I stopped and I said very easy to catch up, very easy to
- 6:23catch up. 1 football game. I could be ahead because I
- 6:26don't. I sit and watch the game with my
- 6:28husband, but I do not necessarily enjoy the game.
- 6:32So I'm always doing something else.
- 6:33Put an earbud in, listen, read a couple extras.
- 6:36You'll be all caught up. And I had to give myself that
- 6:40little bit of grace and get out of future pacing because it's
- 6:43killing us. Future pacing is killing us.
- 6:46So take that simple example, think about where you're doing
- 6:49it and stop it. It doesn't work.
- 6:53Make the plans, but stay in the present.
- 6:55Focus on what is in your sight. Don't focus on going future
- 7:00pacing so far that you're driving yourself insane.
- 7:03OK, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I will see you
- 7:06tomorrow. Bye.
