- 0:06Speaker 1: Good one in The Athletic by Dennis Lynn. We asked
- 0:10Speaker 1: MLB players, where do you want to play? Where would
- 0:12Speaker 1: you run from? So there's a poll and you guys
- 0:15Speaker 1: probably know how this ran, and I believe that this
- 0:18Speaker 1: was done in spring training. Things have changed in terms
- 0:22Speaker 1: of how some teams are looked at right now, like
- 0:24Speaker 1: the White Sox and the A's. That doesn't mean that
- 0:26Speaker 1: it's where players want to play, but here's organizations that
- 0:29Speaker 1: have good reputations.
- 0:31Speaker 2: No shock here.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Dodgers were about two thirds of respondents, and you could
- 0:36Speaker 1: vote for multiple teams, but Dodgers, Yankees, Cubs, Blue Jays, Braves,
- 0:41Speaker 1: those were the top five. Can we show bottom five? Two,
- 0:44Speaker 1: and then we'll go over some quotes. Rockies were the
- 0:48Speaker 1: place where people want to run the most, from Pirates
- 0:51Speaker 1: to A's, three, White Sox, four Angels five. So I'll
- 0:56Speaker 1: run through some quotes guys as we talk about this
- 0:58Speaker 1: Todd Father. But the theme that I received was most
- 1:01Speaker 1: teams are kind of in the middle, right, but there's
- 1:03Speaker 1: some teams that stand out where they feel like the
- 1:05Speaker 1: facilities or the way that they can help you get
- 1:08Speaker 1: better is not up to par.
- 1:09Speaker 2: And that's where the bottom was.
- 1:11Speaker 1: The top end looked like it was the teams that
- 1:14Speaker 1: took care of the families and made sure that everything
- 1:17Speaker 1: around them was in tip top shape. So your thoughts
- 1:21Speaker 1: on all of this, And there were some really funny
- 1:23Speaker 1: quotes I'll get into as well.
- 1:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean yeah, and they're all winning ball clubs too,
- 1:29Speaker 3: which is good, the good ones. I'm going to the
- 1:32Speaker 3: This is such a This is such a funny and
- 1:35Speaker 3: great question to ask. I wish there was more respondents.
- 1:38Speaker 3: It's out of what seventy three?
- 1:41Speaker 4: I wish they had two three, four hundred out of
- 1:48Speaker 4: the top four. I played for two of them, I
- 1:51Speaker 4: would agree. I can't. I'm just laughing the Rockies. What's
- 1:56Speaker 4: so bad about the Rockies?
- 1:58Speaker 3: That stadium's gorgeous, I guess talking about Yeah, listen, if
- 2:01Speaker 3: you take care of care of family. I'm a big
- 2:03Speaker 3: family guy first and foremost, and my wife and kids
- 2:06Speaker 3: are taking care of.
- 2:06Speaker 4: You're going to be top of a good list.
- 2:08Speaker 3: I don't care how bad the city is or you know,
- 2:10Speaker 3: the reputation or whatever it is. You know, you look
- 2:14Speaker 3: at the bottom, you see Saint Louis, Milwaukee, Kansas City, Nationals, Yankees,
- 2:20Speaker 3: Tampa Bay And since he five or less. I think
- 2:23Speaker 3: those five or lesser guys that were just probably bitter
- 2:25Speaker 3: that they didn't keep them or left them there.
- 2:27Speaker 4: I don't know, you can't.
- 2:28Speaker 3: You can only have only have two people like who
- 2:31Speaker 3: pissed you off in Cincinnati that you said that they
- 2:34Speaker 3: didn't have a good reputation.
- 2:35Speaker 4: I think they have a really good reputation.
- 2:38Speaker 3: But yeah, Pittsburgh Chicago, I mean, a's got to be
- 2:44Speaker 3: up there. I mean, they should have been top of
- 2:46Speaker 3: the list right with what's going on over there.
- 2:48Speaker 4: But hey, it is what it is.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Do you want to hear some quotes before Crats chimes
- 2:52Speaker 1: in then top five? Like these are real player quotes,
- 2:56Speaker 1: current players speaking anonymously to the media about what they
- 2:59Speaker 1: didn't like for the Rackies. I agree, I mean, the
- 3:02Speaker 1: ballpark's awesome, but this is what you've got, and this
- 3:04Speaker 1: is starting to change, I think. But one player said,
- 3:06Speaker 1: for a while, I would say for a good ten years,
- 3:08Speaker 1: they didn't have the resources to play in place to
- 3:10Speaker 1: help players stay in the big leagues. It was kind
- 3:12Speaker 1: of okay, you're here, if you produce, you can stay.
- 3:15Speaker 1: If not, next guy up. You have to have some
- 3:18Speaker 1: type of resource for the players to help them get
- 3:20Speaker 1: through their struggles because you end up weeding out good players.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Another quote from someone, I think they scott and draft well,
- 3:25Speaker 1: but development wise, there's no research and development. You're trying
- 3:29Speaker 1: to figure it out on your own. Some help would
- 3:31Speaker 1: be nice. Charlie Blackman was completely self made, so those
- 3:34Speaker 1: comments are not a secret. They had one of the
- 3:36Speaker 1: smaller R and D departments. Paul de Podesta comes in.
- 3:39Speaker 1: They basically went the other route, right, Krats, that was one.
- 3:44Speaker 1: That's where they went the other way. This one's interesting
- 3:47Speaker 1: with the A's so Kratz. A player said, they're playing
- 3:51Speaker 1: in a minor league stadium with awful amenities. I think
- 3:53Speaker 1: they're building a good team, but I think it'll be
- 3:55Speaker 1: hard to add top talent until they get to Vegas.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Another person said, that's a dumb way to not invest
- 4:01Speaker 1: sixty thousand dollars a year on like childcare at the field.
- 4:05Speaker 1: People won't even consider going there because they're like, yeah,
- 4:08Speaker 1: I'm not going to subject my wife and kids to
- 4:10Speaker 1: not liking it. They don't treat them well. So that's
- 4:13Speaker 1: the money maker right there for me. Kratz, sixty thousand
- 4:16Speaker 1: dollars in real life a ton of money in baseball money,
- 4:18Speaker 1: that's like two dollars, okay, So if you there's a
- 4:22Speaker 1: player saying if you invested sixty K, you would get
- 4:24Speaker 1: other players to be like, Wow, this is a much
- 4:26Speaker 1: better atmosphere for my family.
- 4:29Speaker 5: It's it's very simple things that teams are missing. When
- 4:33Speaker 5: you talk about the Rockies. I know of two players
- 4:36Speaker 5: that were with the Rockies during their heyday. So we're
- 4:39Speaker 5: talking with in the last ten years when they were
- 4:41Speaker 5: a playoff team that went to other organizations and were like, what.
- 4:47Speaker 4: You guys have this?
- 4:48Speaker 5: How is this possible? And I'm not talking about that
- 4:51Speaker 5: they don't have like this crazy piece of equipment. We're
- 4:53Speaker 5: talking about like scouting reports. We're talking about advanced scatter
- 4:59Speaker 5: reports that the these teams that this team and we
- 5:01Speaker 5: played on had that the Rockies did not give them anything.
- 5:05Speaker 5: So now all of a sudden, you're talking all this stuff.
- 5:07Speaker 5: Is talking about little things around the fringe that make
- 5:11Speaker 5: a player better because you're playing against big leaguers on
- 5:15Speaker 5: the other side and they all have those advantages, and
- 5:18Speaker 5: that's the separation. Like even the greatest player in any
- 5:21Speaker 5: on any team, the gap between that player and me
- 5:26Speaker 5: is not as great as people think. It is because
- 5:30Speaker 5: there's there's advantages. You can take advantage of those things,
- 5:33Speaker 5: and the best player is always going to play the best.
- 5:35Speaker 6: But if you don't, if you're.
- 5:36Speaker 5: Sitting there as the best player and you're like, I
- 5:38Speaker 5: don't know if my kids are okay in the in
- 5:41Speaker 5: the in the childcare room because the childcare specialists didn't
- 5:46Speaker 5: show up because they only pay them for Tuesday to Friday.
- 5:50Speaker 5: And now my wife has to sit in the stands.
- 5:52Speaker 5: She's not even coming to the game. I had to
- 5:53Speaker 5: deal with that before I came to the ballpark. Or
- 5:56Speaker 5: the fact that we don't have a scatter report. Hey,
- 5:58Speaker 5: this guy's coming in. Do you guys know about him?
- 6:00Speaker 5: I faced him in double A like three years ago.
- 6:03Speaker 5: He had a good fastball. Then it's like, what, I
- 6:05Speaker 5: want to know what he did in the last three games?
- 6:07Speaker 4: What you know?
- 6:08Speaker 5: That kind of stuff and those teams, I don't really
- 6:11Speaker 5: care who said, like two people said I would never
- 6:13Speaker 5: go to the Royals, or two said I would never
- 6:16Speaker 5: go to the Brewers. That's dumb because they were never there,
- 6:18Speaker 5: or they're just being they're being pissy. But for me,
- 6:22Speaker 5: like it's the main ones you talk about the pirates,
- 6:25Speaker 5: seeing it don't want to be it, talk about the Rocky,
- 6:28Speaker 5: he's heard about it, don't want to be there. And
- 6:31Speaker 5: you go, how do you own a team? How do
- 6:34Speaker 5: you have a billion dollar asset that you're like, I'm
- 6:37Speaker 5: not willing to put into the uh, childcare because that's
- 6:42Speaker 5: a line item that I don't think is necessary. That's
- 6:45Speaker 5: just that's asinine. And it tells it shows me, shows
- 6:49Speaker 5: me you don't want to win and you hope you win.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Yeah, that's good stuff, Todd father.
- 6:55Speaker 1: I know some people will probably watch or listen to
- 6:57Speaker 1: this and they'll say, you players, you guys need so
- 7:00Speaker 1: much or so pampered. But the thing that we have
- 7:03Speaker 1: to try to get to everyone is and it's not me.
- 7:05Speaker 1: I don't care. I didn't play. But my understanding is
- 7:08Speaker 1: anybody in any job, if you had something a little
- 7:10Speaker 1: bit nicer for you, you're gonna choose that, aren't you. So
- 7:13Speaker 1: that's where you have to look at it, like, yeah,
- 7:15Speaker 1: childcare or facilities or certain tech or equipment. It might
- 7:19Speaker 1: not seem like a big deal and it's like, hey,
- 7:21Speaker 1: just go out there and play, that's fine. But when
- 7:23Speaker 1: other players or when other teams provide that, and that
- 7:26Speaker 1: could be a rich team that could be a poor team.
- 7:28Speaker 1: We're talking about expenses that are not a big deal.
- 7:30Speaker 1: And to me, some of this stuff has to do
- 7:32Speaker 1: sometimes with not just an owner being cheap. It's like
- 7:35Speaker 1: out of touch, you know, it's almost like Grandpa, well
- 7:38Speaker 1: that's not what we do. That's what it feels like
- 7:40Speaker 1: in some of these scenarios. It does, right because sometimes
- 7:43Speaker 1: like there are some people that are really out of
- 7:45Speaker 1: touch with how to run an organization and also just
- 7:48Speaker 1: how to run a company and treat people well. Like
- 7:51Speaker 1: I know that you guys, you know that players make
- 7:52Speaker 1: a lot of money and it's a great it's a
- 7:54Speaker 1: great gig to have.
- 7:55Speaker 2: It's the dream of millions of people.
- 7:57Speaker 1: But you can speak to what the schedules like and
- 8:00Speaker 1: if you get one or two things that make your
- 8:02Speaker 1: life a little bit easier. Right, if you know that
- 8:04Speaker 1: you're going to the park, the kiddos are going to
- 8:05Speaker 1: be happy, right, wife, he's going to be happy. There's
- 8:08Speaker 1: facilities that are going to make you feel better before
- 8:10Speaker 1: and after the game, right, Like if you're asking for
- 8:12Speaker 1: some new technology that's out right, some new sauna or
- 8:15Speaker 1: something like that, and one team grabs it for ten
- 8:17Speaker 1: grand and one doesn't.
- 8:19Speaker 2: It can make a difference for you.
- 8:21Speaker 3: Yeah, And I give credit to the White Sox as
- 8:24Speaker 3: they go back there. They did get one of those
- 8:26Speaker 3: what are they You're standing there and it's freezing around you.
- 8:32Speaker 4: Buio yeah, bio whatever biotherapy.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Chris Sale wanted that and they spent the money in that,
- 8:39Speaker 3: so I'll give them credit for that.
- 8:40Speaker 4: They did do some stuff over there.
- 8:41Speaker 3: They have a sick hot teb probably the best hot
- 8:44Speaker 3: tub I've been in in my life. But I'm reading
- 8:48Speaker 3: I'm just reading some of the quotes. They just don't
- 8:50Speaker 3: want to spend money on anything. This the pirates. I'm
- 8:52Speaker 3: it's like fighting tooth and nail to get equipment, kick
- 8:55Speaker 3: the treatment and stuff. They're spending a little bit of
- 8:56Speaker 3: money now, but they're still going to I'm still going
- 8:58Speaker 3: to say the pirates and ownership. So yeah, you just
- 9:02Speaker 3: want to be at ease, that's all. You go to
- 9:05Speaker 3: the ballpark knowing you don't have to worry about anything else.
- 9:08Speaker 3: You want to be at ease knowing your family's taken
- 9:10Speaker 3: care of and the outside noise is all taken care
- 9:13Speaker 3: of it.
- 9:13Speaker 4: That's all. I think.
- 9:15Speaker 7: There is a.
- 9:17Speaker 5: Don't misconstrue this is guys looking like players are bougie.
- 9:21Speaker 5: This was where would you want to go based on
- 9:24Speaker 5: the organization. And I will tell anybody I played for
- 9:26Speaker 5: the Rays and the Guardians, the Indians at the time.
- 9:29Speaker 5: The Indians do an incredible job. The Guardians. Now, I
- 9:34Speaker 5: have to preface that with getting people in there that
- 9:39Speaker 5: care for the people that are there, so you know
- 9:42Speaker 5: what they do. They have an opportunity for minor leaguers
- 9:46Speaker 5: to essentially live at Goodyear at the Goodyear Facility year round.
- 9:51Speaker 5: Thanksgiving and Christmass their closed, but they can live there
- 9:54Speaker 5: year round. They paid for a chef that goes around
- 9:58Speaker 5: and I've said this before, will take the players to
- 10:02Speaker 5: the grocery store to help them find food and cook it,
- 10:06Speaker 5: teach them how to cook it. So that these minor
- 10:08Speaker 5: leaguers are able to get the most out of their career.
- 10:12Speaker 5: They're not taking around like the greatest players on Earth
- 10:16Speaker 5: and being like Josey Ramirez, We'll do whatever it takes
- 10:18Speaker 5: for you. No, they're there for the person. And so
- 10:21Speaker 5: if an organization doesn't do that, no matter how rich
- 10:26Speaker 5: they are, how poor they are, whatever it takes, then
- 10:29Speaker 5: they're going to go somewhere else. If you have a choice,
- 10:31Speaker 5: you're going to go somewhere else that does that. Everybody
- 10:35Speaker 5: wants to go back to the Blue Jays because of
- 10:37Speaker 5: how they treated the families. The families probably one of
- 10:41Speaker 5: the quotes from somebody that we had on said Athio
- 10:44Speaker 5: Scherzer said, Oh, the families had a better time during
- 10:47Speaker 5: the postseason than we did. That's how it's supposed to be.
- 10:50Speaker 5: That's how you get players to sign where you are
- 10:53Speaker 5: at maybe a little bit of a discounted rate because
- 10:56Speaker 5: you have a great childcare wife sits you was going on.
- 11:01Speaker 5: I know when I was there, the childcare room was
- 11:04Speaker 5: like a closet, and they continue to improve it and
- 11:08Speaker 5: now you're hearing people rave about it. That's what gets
- 11:10Speaker 5: free agents to sign places. And it's not them being bougie.
- 11:26Speaker 1: You've got d backs closer, Paul Seawall, it's back on
- 11:29Speaker 1: ft with us and we got a lot to get
- 11:30Speaker 1: to you, and we're excited about the season you got
- 11:32Speaker 1: going so far. But if you don't mind, just while
- 11:34Speaker 1: we were talking about this, Paul, good to see you.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Dude.
- 11:36Speaker 1: You're on a team where you can be in one
- 11:38Speaker 1: spot year round, and I know that's a huge recruiting trip.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Among a chip among other things. So, how's life with
- 11:43Speaker 1: the d Backs again?
- 11:45Speaker 6: Well, thanks for having on.
- 11:46Speaker 8: I joined a couple of minutes early, so I got
- 11:48Speaker 8: to hear you guys talking about something that's actually pretty important.
- 11:51Speaker 8: So it's hard to be better than sleeping in your
- 11:53Speaker 8: own bed and having your own life just with the
- 11:56Speaker 8: side of baseball. Usually baseball as a priority. This is
- 11:59Speaker 8: It's been a nice little change where you know, we've
- 12:02Speaker 8: had we've had our normal lives and then I just
- 12:04Speaker 8: go to the field in the afternoon and play baseball
- 12:07Speaker 8: outside of that.
- 12:07Speaker 6: So I think we need to do a better job
- 12:11Speaker 6: of using that.
- 12:12Speaker 8: To make the Dimondbacks to the best organization we can
- 12:14Speaker 8: and just capitalizing on everyone that lives in Phoenix. But
- 12:17Speaker 8: it's a pretty nice little perk, for sure. Do you
- 12:20Speaker 8: feel like that you being bougie as a player? Do
- 12:23Speaker 8: you feel like because that's what we're gonna get on
- 12:25Speaker 8: Twitter about what I just said, all these players they
- 12:27Speaker 8: just want too much. They're making millions of dollars, Why
- 12:29Speaker 8: can't they spend that? Yeah, I think lots of players
- 12:33Speaker 8: do spend their own money for their own things. I
- 12:36Speaker 8: think you'd be surprised that every player feels like, all right,
- 12:38Speaker 8: what can.
- 12:39Speaker 6: I I If I make.
- 12:41Speaker 8: Ten thousand dollars of purchases that can maybe make me
- 12:45Speaker 8: half a percent better? What's that return on investment? And
- 12:47Speaker 8: that's looking at like hundreds of thousands of dollars. So
- 12:51Speaker 8: I think everyone does everything they can to make sure
- 12:53Speaker 8: that they have everything they need. You spend so much
- 12:55Speaker 8: time at the field you're talking about. You show up
- 12:57Speaker 8: at one o'clock, you leave at eleven, You're there for
- 13:00Speaker 8: ten hours, and you are you have to be there,
- 13:03Speaker 8: and it's like, what can I do while I'm here
- 13:05Speaker 8: to make sure that I am the best that I
- 13:07Speaker 8: can be?
- 13:07Speaker 4: Right?
- 13:08Speaker 6: Like you said, to.
- 13:10Speaker 8: The cryo chamber or the the red light or the sauna,
- 13:14Speaker 8: all these things that are just literally just trying to
- 13:16Speaker 8: make sure that you can recover the best you can
- 13:18Speaker 8: to perform the best you can. And if you have
- 13:21Speaker 8: a great organization that's providing all these things, it's like, look,
- 13:24Speaker 8: I finish, I finished batting practice, and we have two
- 13:27Speaker 8: hours until game time. What can I do to make
- 13:28Speaker 8: sure that my body feels as good as I possibly
- 13:30Speaker 8: can that produces results immediately? So I think lots of
- 13:34Speaker 8: teams are starting to realize how important that is, or
- 13:36Speaker 8: or maybe I've just been really lucky that I've been
- 13:38Speaker 8: on teams that are prioritizing that. But these are things
- 13:41Speaker 8: that you know are our direct correlation to how you
- 13:44Speaker 8: feel and how you perform out there. So training stats
- 13:47Speaker 8: are getting really good, trying to make sure that they
- 13:48Speaker 8: understand what a players need and what you know.
- 13:51Speaker 6: Every team has a different budget.
- 13:52Speaker 8: But when you realize that you maximize your budget and
- 13:54Speaker 8: you get these new things that everyone can feel better. It's,
- 13:56Speaker 8: you know, it's a lot easier than spending, you know,
- 13:58Speaker 8: twenty five million dollars on better place. So I think
- 14:00Speaker 8: teams are starting to realize that, or at least the
- 14:02Speaker 8: teams that I've been on lately.
- 14:04Speaker 4: You're You're really lucky.
- 14:05Speaker 5: It's the teams that you've been because not all of
- 14:08Speaker 5: them are now now there some are. But is there
- 14:10Speaker 5: one item? Is there one thing that you said that
- 14:13Speaker 5: you say, I will not I will not cut a
- 14:18Speaker 5: corner on this, I will not let I would not
- 14:20Speaker 5: go to a place that doesn't have X.
- 14:26Speaker 6: Good question.
- 14:26Speaker 8: I guess I don't. I guess I haven't found anything
- 14:30Speaker 8: that I need need to have. I think you can
- 14:34Speaker 8: kind of make the most out of everything. But just
- 14:37Speaker 8: you know, coming back to Arizona was nice because I
- 14:39Speaker 8: knew they had everything that I could possibly need. And
- 14:42Speaker 8: then you know, if I didn't have it, I live
- 14:44Speaker 8: at home and I could have it myself. So I
- 14:46Speaker 8: think that's that's been a nice little perk for me.
- 14:48Speaker 8: But no, I don't think there's anything I absolutely couldn't
- 14:52Speaker 8: play without. But it just as nice. You know, we
- 14:55Speaker 8: just got this brand new hyperbaric chamber. These are sorts
- 14:59Speaker 8: of things that it's gonna cost you twenty five fifty
- 15:03Speaker 8: grand depending on how how great you have it. And
- 15:05Speaker 8: and you know, if it could like it said, like
- 15:08Speaker 8: I said, if you can get players to play half
- 15:09Speaker 8: a percent better, think about.
- 15:11Speaker 6: How much better your team could be.
- 15:12Speaker 8: So I'm just very blessed that the Diamondbacks take care
- 15:15Speaker 8: of that and they make sure that they have everything
- 15:17Speaker 8: that we need. And and you know, it's nice even
- 15:20Speaker 8: even when you're injured. You you know, you go to
- 15:21Speaker 8: Salt River and they have everything AsSalt River you can need.
- 15:24Speaker 8: It's it's you know, they're dedicated to make sure that
- 15:26Speaker 8: you know, if you get injured, you're trying to get
- 15:28Speaker 8: back there as quickly as you can. But if we
- 15:29Speaker 8: can keep guys off the eyel then that's you. That's
- 15:31Speaker 8: your great turn on investment as a as a GM
- 15:34Speaker 8: and as an owner.
- 15:35Speaker 3: That's that's spot on right there. First off, congrats on
- 15:39Speaker 3: the one hundred saves. That's a pretty cool feat they have.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Hopefully you collected everything you had for that day and
- 15:45Speaker 3: nice little poster to put in your man cave.
- 15:46Speaker 4: Something cool.
- 15:48Speaker 6: You were there for my first hud so I I.
- 15:51Speaker 4: Ah, that's crazy. That's a small world, man. I want
- 15:56Speaker 4: to ask about safe situations in non safe situations. Safe situations.
- 15:59Speaker 3: You've been phenomenal, eighteen out of nineteen non save, it's
- 16:02Speaker 3: been a little tough.
- 16:03Speaker 4: What's the mindset?
- 16:04Speaker 3: Is it is something different or is it just you know,
- 16:07Speaker 3: going out there understand it. I still have to do
- 16:09Speaker 3: my job. I have to keep the same mindset, you know,
- 16:13Speaker 3: because you know, sometimes you just lose the game. It
- 16:15Speaker 3: is what it is. But at the same time, when
- 16:17Speaker 3: you come in a safe situation, did things change or
- 16:20Speaker 3: you have to Is it a fight to keep the
- 16:22Speaker 3: same mindset? Is what I'm trying to get at.
- 16:24Speaker 6: I would say it is a fight.
- 16:25Speaker 8: I you know, I'd like to admit I'd like to
- 16:28Speaker 8: try to say that it's you know, I go out
- 16:30Speaker 8: there with the same mentality every time. You just you
- 16:32Speaker 8: get used to saving games, and you get used to
- 16:34Speaker 8: those tight situations, and the crowds a little more into it,
- 16:36Speaker 8: and and you know you kind of are just just
- 16:39Speaker 8: built for that when you get ready for it. But
- 16:41Speaker 8: then you know it turns from and it shouldn't change
- 16:44Speaker 8: from three to four, but it just is different because
- 16:46Speaker 8: you you know, you're just used.
- 16:48Speaker 6: To this situation.
- 16:50Speaker 8: I'd like to say that I take the same attitude
- 16:53Speaker 8: and take the same competition level out there. It hasn't
- 16:56Speaker 8: really been that way this year, and you know, I'm
- 16:59Speaker 8: not too good to not pitch and safe to pitch
- 17:02Speaker 8: in non safe situations, but I definitely haven't been my
- 17:04Speaker 8: best and very much looking forward to the rest of
- 17:07Speaker 8: the season trying to make sure that that's not an issue.
- 17:09Speaker 6: But you know, especially last night, you know, it doesn't matter.
- 17:13Speaker 8: We won forty three, So I'll take I'll take given
- 17:15Speaker 8: up three runs when we're winning by four and end
- 17:17Speaker 8: up getting the win with with Garcia coming to clothes,
- 17:20Speaker 8: rather than you know, giving up three when we're only
- 17:22Speaker 8: up one or two. So I guess if it really matters.
- 17:25Speaker 8: If it really came down to mattering, I guess I'm
- 17:27Speaker 8: doing what's really important and making sure that I pitch
- 17:29Speaker 8: well when I really need it, and if I'm not
- 17:31Speaker 8: going to pitch well, not when we need it.
- 17:32Speaker 6: So but i'd like to I'd like to make.
- 17:34Speaker 8: Sure that I do a little bit better job of focus.
- 17:36Speaker 8: But I you know, I really think that I am it.
- 17:38Speaker 8: Just it really hasn't happened. I think, more than anything,
- 17:41Speaker 8: it was sixty pitches and a pitching change yesterday and
- 17:44Speaker 8: I was ready to go, and then I think I
- 17:45Speaker 8: used all my good bullets in the bulp, and so we'll.
- 17:48Speaker 6: Try to work on that more than anything.
- 17:50Speaker 5: Can you verbalize it? Can you verbalize that difference in
- 17:53Speaker 5: the feeling, because I mean, it feels like the last
- 17:55Speaker 5: two weeks I've talked, We talked to Craig Kimberll. We
- 17:58Speaker 5: talk about the three versus the ninth inning. Can you
- 18:02Speaker 5: verbalize what that feeling is? Because what I try to
- 18:04Speaker 5: tell kids, not just not just big league players or
- 18:07Speaker 5: minor league players. If I try to some kids, adrenaline
- 18:10Speaker 5: is a thing. But can you verbalize it? Because you've
- 18:12Speaker 5: been in all situations.
- 18:15Speaker 8: Yeah, there's just a different energy in the stadium when
- 18:17Speaker 8: it feels like it's a safe situation, both at Chase
- 18:20Speaker 8: or on the road. You know, Chase, I get this
- 18:22Speaker 8: incredible light show and the people start to go wild,
- 18:25Speaker 8: and you know, if it's five or something, you know,
- 18:28Speaker 8: you maybe I don't get my light show when I
- 18:30Speaker 8: come out.
- 18:30Speaker 6: And so you know when you're up.
- 18:33Speaker 8: When you're up one and you go on the road,
- 18:35Speaker 8: and you know, they start to put their hype video
- 18:38Speaker 8: up there trying to say like, all right, all we
- 18:39Speaker 8: need is one run, and the fans are starting to
- 18:41Speaker 8: get into it. And I felt on the road, if
- 18:43Speaker 8: you throw a first pitch ball, then the crowd start
- 18:45Speaker 8: to get into it a little more and you're adrenaline.
- 18:47Speaker 6: It's like, all right, like that's it, that's enough.
- 18:50Speaker 8: Yeah, just the adrenaline rush of having a close game
- 18:53Speaker 8: like that is unlike anything in the world. And so
- 18:56Speaker 8: when you get used to throwing in situations like that,
- 18:59Speaker 8: and then you get put in a situation where I'm
- 19:01Speaker 8: watching people head for the exits last night, and then
- 19:05Speaker 8: I went out there and made it a little bit
- 19:06Speaker 8: closer than we needed to.
- 19:07Speaker 6: It's just one of those things.
- 19:08Speaker 8: But uh, you know, I've had a little bit of
- 19:11Speaker 8: experience when you talked to Craig that, you know, I
- 19:13Speaker 8: can't imagine, you know, six hundred saves what he must
- 19:16Speaker 8: feel like when he has to pitch the sixth or
- 19:18Speaker 8: seventh inning or something.
- 19:19Speaker 6: It just is so different. You just you just get
- 19:22Speaker 6: used to the environment.
- 19:25Speaker 8: And I guess maybe it's similar to like, hey, look,
- 19:27Speaker 8: you're a leadoff hitter and then you're struggling, so we're
- 19:29Speaker 8: gonna or whatever, We're gonna put you at the five
- 19:32Speaker 8: hole or sixth hole or something like that, and you're
- 19:34Speaker 8: used to, you know, making three outs on the top
- 19:37Speaker 8: of the first and you come in and you're like, well,
- 19:38Speaker 8: I'm not now, I'm not hitting. I don't you know,
- 19:40Speaker 8: it's the same at bats. It's just as you know,
- 19:42Speaker 8: it's hard to it's hard to put into words. It's
- 19:44Speaker 8: just a different situation. And you know, mentally, you've trained
- 19:47Speaker 8: yourself for that ninth inning and the close situation, and
- 19:49Speaker 8: sometimes when.
- 19:51Speaker 6: You see four, you just you start to lose it
- 19:54Speaker 6: a little bit. Unfortunately.
- 19:56Speaker 5: One of the things you said was you start seeing
- 19:58Speaker 5: people move to the exits. Do do you notice do
- 20:01Speaker 5: you notice that in the game where all of a sudden,
- 20:03Speaker 5: they stop moving to the exits and they like start
- 20:05Speaker 5: sitting down like they're like, wait a minute, I want
- 20:07Speaker 5: to make sure we get this game.
- 20:09Speaker 6: Do you notice that?
- 20:10Speaker 5: And maybe that's like you not being this focused?
- 20:13Speaker 6: No, I don't, I you know, I typically don't know.
- 20:15Speaker 8: I think last night was the way the bullpen shaped
- 20:17Speaker 8: that at bush Badium. And then I kind of was
- 20:19Speaker 8: just kind of like looking around because we had a
- 20:20Speaker 8: pitching change and then there was a mitt Mountain vision.
- 20:23Speaker 8: I'm looking and we got to three and people headed
- 20:25Speaker 8: for the exits, and then it felt like we got
- 20:27Speaker 8: four more people headed to the exits, and just kind
- 20:30Speaker 8: of that inning started to draw, and my.
- 20:33Speaker 6: Attention span obviously got worse.
- 20:34Speaker 8: So uh that's something me and the mental skills coach
- 20:37Speaker 8: can work on and trying to make sure we're a
- 20:38Speaker 8: little bit better on that. I feel like I said
- 20:40Speaker 8: I had that had it had it been zero zero
- 20:43Speaker 8: and I was going out there. I was, I was
- 20:44Speaker 8: so ready to go and just kind of, you know,
- 20:47Speaker 8: turn into a forty minute inning and and then I
- 20:49Speaker 8: kind of I think I got out out a scene
- 20:52Speaker 8: cut Ford sly, but uh, that's just part of the
- 20:54Speaker 8: inning is that, you know, you're up one, they say
- 20:57Speaker 8: you're in.
- 20:57Speaker 6: You warm up, we go one, two, three. I think
- 21:00Speaker 6: my fifteen warm.
- 21:00Speaker 8: Ups and I feel like, all right, I'm at my
- 21:03Speaker 8: peak of ready to go, and so you know, sometimes
- 21:06Speaker 8: it just kind of flows a.
- 21:07Speaker 6: Little bit better in that situation.
- 21:09Speaker 5: You keep deviating me from my real question. But bullpen guys,
- 21:14Speaker 5: because I love talking to guys. Like when you're in
- 21:17Speaker 5: the bullpen watching somebody warm up, young guy, old guy,
- 21:20Speaker 5: it doesn't matter when they start throwing too many pitches
- 21:24Speaker 5: in the pen you are cooked or you are totally
- 21:29Speaker 5: out of sick. Because you just said you throw your
- 21:31Speaker 5: fifteen and then you're ready to go. How many did
- 21:33Speaker 5: you throw last night in that long half inning that
- 21:36Speaker 5: you stayed there?
- 21:37Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean I probably threw twenty five. And then
- 21:41Speaker 8: there were just pauses too. I could have thrown more.
- 21:44Speaker 8: I felt like I was like trying to save bullets.
- 21:46Speaker 8: And then you know, just I think we sent up
- 21:49Speaker 8: you know, what do we send up nine guys? We
- 21:51Speaker 8: had a pitching change, We had a mountain visit and
- 21:53Speaker 8: just was one of those things where and we you know,
- 21:56Speaker 8: we scored the last run on a wild pitch situation,
- 21:59Speaker 8: and then they thinking about challenging it.
- 22:01Speaker 6: It's just what it was, just a perfect storm out
- 22:04Speaker 6: of my routine.
- 22:05Speaker 8: And then I produced the exact same half inning and
- 22:07Speaker 8: I'm just glad Brandon closed it out and we didn't
- 22:10Speaker 8: have to worry about it, and we got the win.
- 22:11Speaker 8: And we'll worry about tonight when when I get to
- 22:14Speaker 8: the yard.
- 22:15Speaker 5: No win is a win.
- 22:16Speaker 4: Is a win now? A win for you?
- 22:19Speaker 5: A win for you, in my opinion, at this point
- 22:21Speaker 5: in your career or any point in your career, would
- 22:24Speaker 5: be an All Star nod. How often do you think
- 22:27Speaker 5: about that? Do you look around and see what else,
- 22:29Speaker 5: how you compare to other people. I get it, you
- 22:32Speaker 5: want to win night in a night out, but you
- 22:34Speaker 5: also got a lot of downtime to think about stuff.
- 22:38Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 22:38Speaker 8: I have had some insanely good first halfs and have
- 22:42Speaker 8: never gotten to be an All Star.
- 22:43Speaker 4: You know.
- 22:43Speaker 8: I feel like I was pretty snubbed in twenty three.
- 22:46Speaker 8: I was hurt to start twenty four, but I'd only
- 22:48Speaker 8: give a one run when they gave out the nods
- 22:50Speaker 8: in twenty something innings and didn't get it in twenty
- 22:53Speaker 8: four or so. At this point, I've kind of just
- 22:55Speaker 8: thought it's not gonna happen for me. I'm not a
- 22:57Speaker 8: you know, not a big name. I don't have huge velos,
- 22:59Speaker 8: so I don't look rate in an exhibition situation. So
- 23:02Speaker 8: I've kind of just you know, said that that's not
- 23:04Speaker 8: really going to work for me, and I, you know,
- 23:06Speaker 8: I've kind of taken that approach, and then I've gotten
- 23:09Speaker 8: questions more often in the last few weeks, and and
- 23:13Speaker 8: you know, maybe it's come to my attention more and
- 23:16Speaker 8: I my wife and I were just talking about it
- 23:18Speaker 8: last night. I felt like I finally started thinking like, well,
- 23:21Speaker 8: maybe I could be an All Star. I have a
- 23:22Speaker 8: bunch of saves, I'm pitching really well, and then last
- 23:25Speaker 8: night humbles me really well. So I think it's just
- 23:28Speaker 8: most importantly, like, you know, it's not important. I would
- 23:32Speaker 8: love it more than anything. I think it would just
- 23:34Speaker 8: be a reflection on my career that I feel like
- 23:36Speaker 8: I've had a career that deserves at least an All Star,
- 23:39Speaker 8: not once. But you know, most important thing is making
- 23:43Speaker 8: sure that we're winning games as a team, and that's
- 23:45Speaker 8: the most important thing. And I'm just I'm excited that
- 23:47Speaker 8: I'm healthy enough to produce, and I feel like I've
- 23:49Speaker 8: been throwing really well, and if it happens, it happens.
- 23:52Speaker 8: But I uh, you know, as soon as I started
- 23:54Speaker 8: thinking about it kind of set back.
- 23:56Speaker 6: So I just need to make sure that.
- 23:57Speaker 8: I'm focused on what's important, and that's let's do what
- 23:59Speaker 8: I can to help the Diamondbacks on games.
- 24:02Speaker 3: No doubt, and I want to lean more into that
- 24:04Speaker 3: as a team. Game and a half out of the wildcard,
- 24:06Speaker 3: everybody seems like everybody's still in it with three teams
- 24:09Speaker 3: making it. Talk a little bit about the team and
- 24:12Speaker 3: how you guys need to move forward because it looks
- 24:13Speaker 3: like the Dodgers have taken over again. That's just it
- 24:17Speaker 3: seems like that just comes with I'm not saying you
- 24:19Speaker 3: guys are out of the division, but ten and a
- 24:20Speaker 3: half is a lot of games. Talk a little about
- 24:23Speaker 3: the push you guys are making right now, and you know,
- 24:25Speaker 3: what do you got to do to get over this
- 24:26Speaker 3: hump to get back into playoffs.
- 24:28Speaker 8: Yeah, it's this weird feeling where we've had. I feel
- 24:31Speaker 8: like we've had multiple stretches. We've played awful. I thought
- 24:34Speaker 8: we got off to a really good stretch. We got
- 24:36Speaker 8: to play some teams, so we're a little inferior, and
- 24:38Speaker 8: we made a lot of ground there.
- 24:41Speaker 4: You know.
- 24:41Speaker 8: I feel like if you asked everybody on the team,
- 24:43Speaker 8: they'd say, we're okay, we're not great, we haven't played
- 24:47Speaker 8: really well. And then you look up and the entire
- 24:50Speaker 8: league's mid so then we are right in it with
- 24:52Speaker 8: everybody else. So you know, you look at it right there,
- 24:55Speaker 8: it's like, I don't I don't think we're I don't
- 24:58Speaker 8: think we're playing well, but you look at it. We're
- 25:00Speaker 8: only three games back away from hosting a wildcard game,
- 25:03Speaker 8: So I mean, you're one good week away from being
- 25:06Speaker 8: in winning the walk wildcards.
- 25:08Speaker 6: So it's just is one of those things where, in my.
- 25:11Speaker 8: Opinion, it looks like it's pretty pretty even a lot
- 25:14Speaker 8: of parody in this league. You're looking at maybe seven
- 25:16Speaker 8: or eight teams nine teams in the National League alone
- 25:18Speaker 8: that are that are going to try to buy for
- 25:20Speaker 8: three wildcard spots. So it just shows that that, you know,
- 25:24Speaker 8: you just got to put your pedal in the metal
- 25:26Speaker 8: and just keep going. And I think the trade laded
- 25:28Speaker 8: line is going to look a little weird because there's
- 25:30Speaker 8: so many teams in it, and and the Arizona Diamondbacks
- 25:33Speaker 8: are right in the thick of it.
- 25:34Speaker 6: And we haven't even played really all that well.
- 25:36Speaker 8: If you have to ask me, I think we've had
- 25:39Speaker 8: one or two of the three phases missing at all times.
- 25:42Speaker 8: And so I think if we can put together a
- 25:44Speaker 8: really good month, I think you could look up and
- 25:46Speaker 8: be very impressed with where you are in the standings.
- 25:48Speaker 8: And so for us, it's just it's just trying to
- 25:51Speaker 8: get a little bit better every single day. I think
- 25:52Speaker 8: that's uh, that's what everyone's focused on. Just trying to
- 25:55Speaker 8: keep getting better, keep working, and you know, we'll see
- 25:58Speaker 8: where we're.
- 25:59Speaker 6: At at the end of the sea. But we haven't
- 26:01Speaker 6: really played well when we're right there.
- 26:02Speaker 8: So I think that's just a great sign that you
- 26:04Speaker 8: know we're right in this and we just need to
- 26:06Speaker 8: keep going to work.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Hey s Geek is MLB's official ticket marketplace, and in

- 26:28Speaker 7: go red, dot though, because you might not get any balls,
- 26:30Speaker 7: but go redgreen dot and get as many home run

- 26:57Speaker 1: The description of this episode that'll help you down and
- 27:00Speaker 1: load the app and get the code automatically added to
- 27:03Speaker 1: your account so that you can use it later.
- 27:05Speaker 2: Thank you to Zekik Paul.
- 27:07Speaker 5: I need you to choose. Okay, you have to choose
- 27:10Speaker 5: one of your teammates to put you in an awkward situation. Okay,
- 27:14Speaker 5: here's the question. If any of your teammates is at
- 27:17Speaker 5: the hottest of hot that you've seen them, I don't
- 27:20Speaker 5: care who it is. Who is the best player when
- 27:23Speaker 5: they're the hottest of hot and is uncontrolled? Is it
- 27:25Speaker 5: could tell? Marte is a Guriel who just came back,
- 27:29Speaker 5: is it?
- 27:29Speaker 6: Corbyn?
- 27:29Speaker 7: Carrol?
- 27:30Speaker 5: When they're hitting on all cylinders can carry your team.
- 27:33Speaker 5: It feels like you have a lot of guys that
- 27:35Speaker 5: can do that. But who is the hottest that you've seen?
- 27:38Speaker 5: And when they get hot, nobody can beat them. Nobody
- 27:41Speaker 5: can beat you.
- 27:41Speaker 8: Guys, I'll say, can tell Marques hot is as hot
- 27:45Speaker 8: as anybody's on the planet. Like when he's going well,
- 27:49Speaker 8: he goes as well as anybody in the league. And
- 27:53Speaker 8: you know, we had a two week stretch and we
- 27:55Speaker 8: went eleven and two when he was hot. So it's
- 27:57Speaker 8: like it's it is one of those things that like
- 27:58Speaker 8: when he gets going all of a sudden, it just
- 28:01Speaker 8: changes everything. Especially he's hitting leadoff, and you know you
- 28:03Speaker 8: got a guy on second to start every game, and
- 28:06Speaker 8: you know if you can get somebody on the bottom
- 28:07Speaker 8: of the lineup to turn it over next thing, you know,
- 28:09Speaker 8: he's hitting with guys in the scoring position, and and
- 28:12Speaker 8: you know our offense starts to go. So I would
- 28:14Speaker 8: say hotter than hot Marte when he go when he
- 28:18Speaker 8: really is hot, that's that's probably our hottest guy.
- 28:21Speaker 6: We got plenty of guys that can change a lot,
- 28:23Speaker 6: you know.
- 28:24Speaker 8: Corman Carroll is is one of the best players in baseball.
- 28:28Speaker 8: I think he's criminally underrated, and you know, his hot
- 28:33Speaker 8: is fantastic. I just think he's you know, he's almost
- 28:35Speaker 8: always above average. It's just one of those things where
- 28:38Speaker 8: he just he just he takes maybe a game or
- 28:40Speaker 8: two oft and then he's right back. It's just his
- 28:42Speaker 8: consistency level is is incredible and and you guys have
- 28:45Speaker 8: played that's one of the that's that's the defining marker
- 28:47Speaker 8: in this league is how consistent you can be. And
- 28:49Speaker 8: he can just be consistently amazing all the time, and
- 28:53Speaker 8: that's that's impressive. But if I had to pick somebody
- 28:56Speaker 8: to get hot for a week, it would be Marte,
- 28:58Speaker 8: just like he did in in twenty three and kind
- 28:59Speaker 8: of care yes with his twenty five game postseason hit streak.
- 29:03Speaker 5: Honestly, I think the I think the greatest hit in
- 29:07Speaker 5: all of baseball is a triple do you guys, because
- 29:10Speaker 5: there's a thing where the bullpen guys throw their hat,
- 29:13Speaker 5: you know this is I'm calling a home run here?
- 29:16Speaker 5: Does anybody say I'm calling a triple here? Because with
- 29:20Speaker 5: Corbyn Carrol, it feels like you're gonna be right majority
- 29:24Speaker 5: of the.
- 29:24Speaker 8: Time a Chase Field, a Chase Field at throw for
- 29:28Speaker 8: a triple feels like a little bit cheating. It's almost
- 29:30Speaker 8: like just kind of rooting for a single with guys
- 29:32Speaker 8: in scoring positions. So, uh, you know, he already tied
- 29:36Speaker 8: the franchise record and what are we three and a
- 29:38Speaker 8: half years into his career, so he's gonna blow through
- 29:41Speaker 8: that record. He is a triples machine. Our stadium certainly
- 29:46Speaker 8: plays a little bit into that. But his speed when
- 29:47Speaker 8: he gets his turn around second into third is one
- 29:50Speaker 8: of my favorite things in baseball. He just looks like
- 29:52Speaker 8: Sonic the Hedgehog when he turns, and I just cracked
- 29:55Speaker 8: up laughing every single time. Nobody runs harder in the
- 29:57Speaker 8: entire league than that guy.
- 29:58Speaker 6: He might he might not be.
- 29:59Speaker 8: The fastest play in baseball, but nobody runs harder than
- 30:02Speaker 8: Corwyn Carroll. And it's it's a blast to see of
- 30:04Speaker 8: all go off of his bat and just know off
- 30:06Speaker 8: the bat it's gonna be a triple.
- 30:09Speaker 3: I want to finish your least. I'm gonna finish here
- 30:11Speaker 3: with your sea wallt strikeouts for kids. Talk a little
- 30:14Speaker 3: about how you brought that over to Arizona, and what again,
- 30:17Speaker 3: you're doing which is awesome, courageous, fantastic.
- 30:20Speaker 4: You and your wife have been doing a great job
- 30:22Speaker 4: with this.
- 30:23Speaker 6: Yeah, we appreciate the most. That's the most important thing
- 30:25Speaker 6: we can do.
- 30:26Speaker 8: You know, baseball is great, but I'm you know, if
- 30:28Speaker 8: we can use it to a tool to uh to
- 30:31Speaker 8: do some good in our community, we feel great about it.
- 30:33Speaker 6: And and Molly and I.
- 30:34Speaker 8: Are so passionate about Child Crisis Arizona. They're just an
- 30:37Speaker 8: amazing organization. When we signed back, it was very easily.
- 30:41Speaker 8: We didn't have to really think about it. We just
- 30:43Speaker 8: called justin and said we're excited to donate again this year.
- 30:46Speaker 8: And they're just amazing. They do everything they can for
- 30:48Speaker 8: some of the most the poorest, the most underprivileged, underresourced
- 30:52Speaker 8: kids we have in Phoenix in the Arizona area. We're
- 30:54Speaker 8: talking about giving them food, we're talking about housing, we're
- 30:57Speaker 8: talking about school, we're talking about foster care, mental health resources.
- 31:05Speaker 8: These kids have been abused in ways that we can't
- 31:08Speaker 8: imagine and they need all the help that they can
- 31:10Speaker 8: get and that's what Child.
- 31:11Speaker 6: Crisis can do.
- 31:12Speaker 8: And we're just we're just so blessed to be able
- 31:15Speaker 8: to be in a situation where we can give back,
- 31:17Speaker 8: and you know, we found them and they're just an
- 31:19Speaker 8: amazing organization and we can't be more thankful for the
- 31:22Speaker 8: work they're doing in our community. And we're just excited
- 31:24Speaker 8: that they treat us like family.
- 31:27Speaker 6: And and you know, it's just it's just.
- 31:30Speaker 8: A privilege to get to serve these people and help
- 31:33Speaker 8: and Child Crisis is great and we're super excited to
- 31:35Speaker 8: try and do a couple more things with them this year,
- 31:37Speaker 8: and we'll share them as we.
- 31:38Speaker 6: As we get to them.
- 31:39Speaker 8: But people can go to my Instagram, my Twitter. I
- 31:43Speaker 8: have the links in there. It says right there you
- 31:45Speaker 8: can scan. So what we're doing is I am donating
- 31:48Speaker 8: a dollar amount for every strikeout to Child Crisis Arizona.
- 31:51Speaker 8: You can go to our page and you can pledge
- 31:53Speaker 8: too if you want to give one cent, ten cents,
- 31:56Speaker 8: a dollar, whatever you want to give for every strikeout
- 31:57Speaker 8: I have. So it's a win win win. I strike
- 32:00Speaker 8: people out, Diamondbacks win, and the underprivileged kids every Arizona
- 32:05Speaker 8: get to get to be helped out as well.
- 32:09Speaker 2: That's really cool.
- 32:09Speaker 1: I love that and I know that you know other
- 32:11Speaker 1: players have, you know, similar initiatives out there, and it's
- 32:14Speaker 1: cool to follow right when you're a fan of the
- 32:16Speaker 1: team and then you're of course rooting for them to win.
- 32:18Speaker 2: But then you're like, oh, see, Welton, like we can.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Get fifteen hundred bucks to an important charity, you know locally.
- 32:24Speaker 2: Where did you come up with it initially?
- 32:26Speaker 1: Like in terms of the actual incentive, right, because I
- 32:28Speaker 1: think that's cool. I think the thing is that that
- 32:31Speaker 1: I hope people realize is it.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Brings more awareness when you're.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Tying it to something that's going on in the game
- 32:38Speaker 1: for a good cause. So did you see anyone else
- 32:40Speaker 1: doing it or is it just something that you guys
- 32:42Speaker 1: came up with originally?
- 32:43Speaker 8: Well, you'll see it any Every single team has a
- 32:45Speaker 8: something where somebody will donate for every homer or every
- 32:48Speaker 8: run score throughout the season. And you know, in twenty one,
- 32:52Speaker 8: we're having a great season and looking into getting paid
- 32:55Speaker 8: in arbitration a little bit more, and Molly and I
- 32:57Speaker 8: were just saying how fortunate we were and how you know,
- 33:00Speaker 8: charity has been a big part of her life as
- 33:02Speaker 8: well as mine, and so we just felt like we
- 33:03Speaker 8: were finally in a stage where we really needed to
- 33:05Speaker 8: make that a priority, and so we thought about it
- 33:08Speaker 8: in Seattle, and you know, I struck out over one
- 33:10Speaker 8: hundred guys in twenty one, so we thought, okay, you
- 33:12Speaker 8: know what would really go well, As you know, it's
- 33:14Speaker 8: kind of a round number. You get to one hundred
- 33:16Speaker 8: strikeouts and sea wall strikeouts, it kind of works together.
- 33:19Speaker 8: And what we thought was the most important thing in
- 33:21Speaker 8: our life was we had just had our first daughter, Chloe,
- 33:23Speaker 8: and so we just felt like, what can we do
- 33:25Speaker 8: to help parents that are going through tough times? And
- 33:29Speaker 8: you know, just trying to help these kids. There's a
- 33:30Speaker 8: million causes that you can get to it. You know,
- 33:32Speaker 8: that's kind of the hardest part is trying to figure
- 33:34Speaker 8: out where to give money and where to give your
- 33:36Speaker 8: time is because there's so many people doing so many
- 33:39Speaker 8: amazing things, and and I wish I had a good
- 33:42Speaker 8: jillion dollars that I could just give.
- 33:43Speaker 6: To all these organizations. But right now, as.
- 33:46Speaker 8: We're parents of two young ones, kids are the most
- 33:48Speaker 8: important thing, and so we just thought, how can I
- 33:50Speaker 8: make sure that we can tie this in, like you said,
- 33:52Speaker 8: and just trying to make sure. At the time, it
- 33:54Speaker 8: was Mariners fans getting involved, and now it's been Diamondbacks
- 33:56Speaker 8: fans and it's been it's just been amazing.
- 33:59Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it's awesome to follow. And last one off
- 34:01Speaker 1: that that I just thought of too, is so part
- 34:03Speaker 1: of this sad to do it. You're back in Arizona,
- 34:05Speaker 1: you can easily kick it back up, like you said,
- 34:07Speaker 1: so last time you were there, the teammate it to
- 34:09Speaker 1: a World Series in twenty twenty three as well, like
- 34:11Speaker 1: do you see any similarities here? As you're going through
- 34:14Speaker 1: to you try and kind of whisper, Hey, a lot
- 34:16Speaker 1: of these guys were here when we won a world
- 34:19Speaker 1: or when we won on the national league side.
- 34:21Speaker 8: You know, you sign me back and then sign Gal
- 34:23Speaker 8: back within a couple of days after spring training started.
- 34:25Speaker 8: I think Ken Kendrick said something like that. But you know,
- 34:28Speaker 8: as you guys know, every single year, a team is different,
- 34:31Speaker 8: and this team is different than that team, even though
- 34:34Speaker 8: we have a few people who.
- 34:35Speaker 6: Are part of that.
- 34:36Speaker 8: But then I think, more than anything, it'll be it'll
- 34:39Speaker 8: help that we have playoff experience when we can get there,
- 34:41Speaker 8: or at least in September when we're trying to fight
- 34:43Speaker 8: through that spot, and I think that's important. I think
- 34:46Speaker 8: you don't you don't know how to handle yourself in
- 34:48Speaker 8: those situations. Until you go through them. So I think
- 34:50Speaker 8: if we are fortunate enough to get to that situation,
- 34:52Speaker 8: I think we'll be calm and collective and just know that,
- 34:56Speaker 8: you know, you can get hot at any moment. We
- 34:57Speaker 8: were ice cold, we had lost four straight, and next
- 35:00Speaker 8: thing you know, we're sitting in the World Series. So
- 35:02Speaker 8: I think I just give I think it gives us
- 35:04Speaker 8: a chance to be patient, a chance to slow things
- 35:07Speaker 8: down when you start to get that that momentum of
- 35:09Speaker 8: a playoff run or or you know the pressure of September.
- 35:12Speaker 8: So this team will be different and will look different
- 35:15Speaker 8: in September than we look now. That's just how seasons
- 35:17Speaker 8: work and moves and the whole thing. And we'll be uh,
- 35:20Speaker 8: we'll be ready to uh to make a move.
- 35:21Speaker 6: And I'm excited. I'm excited for the second half.
- 35:24Speaker 2: I want to keep being you. We love having you on.
- 35:26Speaker 2: Thanks for joining us.
- 35:26Speaker 6: Do good to see you, great son, you guys, Thanks
- 35:29Speaker 6: for having me
