Transcript
- 0:00Welcome to fight my datak, a podcast that helps bridge, the
- 0:03gap between healthcare workers and First Responders and
- 0:06everything in between. This week's episode was so fun
- 0:13to record. I'm just really enjoying getting
- 0:15to interview my clients and talk to them about the lessons that
- 0:18they've learned while coaching together and this week's just so
- 0:21special because you get to hear my conversation with Vicki who
- 0:25I've been working with since the end of last year and she's grown
- 0:29so much as both a person as and a clinician do to coaching
- 0:33together and mentoring together and she talks a little bit about
- 0:37what it's like to learn to invest in yourself and Laura
- 0:41ties yourself and how she's gained confidence, not only as
- 0:44an ICU nurse but as a person through working together and I
- 0:48just hope you guys enjoy this episode this week and I hope
- 0:52that there's something that you can relate to and take away from
- 0:55it as well. Hey Vicki, thanks for being on
- 1:03today. I really appreciate you being on
- 1:05the podcast. Thanks for having me.
- 1:08Let's just start out. And I like to start out with
- 1:10just telling a little bit about yourself and anything that you
- 1:14want to share with everybody. Um, okay, my name is Vicky and I
- 1:20live in Clearwater. Florida.
- 1:23I am an ICU travel nurse and a newly certified, paramedic I am
- 1:32originally from El Paso, Texas and I've been living here in
- 1:36Florida for almost almost 10 years.
- 1:40Okay, let's start out, like, with the heat only because I
- 1:44just visited Texas and April and I was like, it's only 90 degrees
- 1:49here and it is humid. It's humid.
- 1:53Yes, or in Florida is very hot and humid in Texas.
- 1:56It's hot hot and dry. Why?
- 1:59I just never believed people. When they said that because we
- 2:02in California, it gets really hot here like Summers and the
- 2:06one teens, but it's not like the humidity's not like that.
- 2:10Yeah, it's very different. When I moved here from El Paso,
- 2:13like it's completely dry in El Paso and in very humid, here, I
- 2:17couldn't even breathe. I was like, where am I?
- 2:22Yeah, the level of sweating is just totally different.
- 2:25Yes. Okay, well, great.
- 2:29And I just want to start with like we met last year sometime,
- 2:32probably the end of last year. We started working together.
- 2:36Yes. And and tell me like what you
- 2:40first came to me for and kind of what we've been working on along
- 2:44the way. Yeah, so I came across your page
- 2:50from another flight nurse that I follow, and I my goal and
- 2:56aspiration is to be a flight nurse. so throughout my nursing
- 3:02career, you know seven years ago has always been to be a flight
- 3:04nurse and on Instagram and followed so many different
- 3:08flight, Air, ambulances, everything that I can follow,
- 3:12you know, and I came across your page and I found out that you
- 3:15had a podcast and I listened to your podcast and I was like, oh
- 3:18wow, this is really great and saw that you offered all those
- 3:21the mentorship and you know, to help get to where you want it
- 3:24and I had been talking to my wife and I was saying I really
- 3:29wanted to see if I can, you know, meet somebody or or try
- 3:33and how guide me to where I need to be to fill in the gaps of
- 3:37knowledge and then I came across your page and it was kind of
- 3:41like fate. I just had finished leaving
- 3:46position in the neuro ICU and I felt like just kind of lost in
- 3:50that position in that area that I was in.
- 3:53I lost a lot of confidence in myself, after I left from that.
- 3:58Job and I came across your page and I think it definitely is
- 4:04meeting you and all the services that you offer, and that you've
- 4:08helped me with his been like, exponential to where I am right
- 4:11now. I have seen so much growth in
- 4:15you and I know that we've talked about this before on our
- 4:18sessions, but when we first met it was a lot of like power to
- 4:23the Past, you know. Just a lot of like you had a lot
- 4:26of doubt and not very much self-confidence.
- 4:28Impotence like of where you were really in your career and having
- 4:32like you said, seven years of nursing experience and then, you
- 4:35know, doing ice you for so long. Like you just had I knew you
- 4:39liked, had it in you to have that confidence and be able to
- 4:42just be like the best nurse that you could be.
- 4:44And I've seen you grow so much into that level of confidence
- 4:48that it's now like seeping into other areas and you realizing
- 4:53like your potential. I think, tell me like how you
- 4:56felt about that that part. Yeah.
- 4:58Yeah. Yeah I am, I definitely.
- 5:01Well you know, after I lost my job, I definitely felt a big hit
- 5:06not just to my pride, but my confidence as who I was as a
- 5:10nurse and I think I was very confident at that time but I
- 5:14guess I just don't really have a lot of confidence entirely of
- 5:16myself for it to be just taken away so quickly and after you
- 5:23know, meeting you and working with you, I did have a lot.
- 5:26I gave a lot of my power to my past and really Gave a lot of
- 5:29who I was, as a nurse to the, I, let my job previously, defined
- 5:36who I was, you know, and I really needed to dig into myself
- 5:40and you asking you to hard questions, you know, kind of
- 5:44with obvious answers that I have the power myself, but just
- 5:47giving me the ability to see that in myself, and it
- 5:51definitely has helped me in every area of my of my life.
- 5:56I feel like this past year and Grown a lot.
- 5:59Yeah. And maybe you could go into this
- 6:02a little bit more but like what have you learned specifically
- 6:05about yourself? Like during this time period of
- 6:08really kind of working together. So I feel like I did.
- 6:13I doubted myself a lot when it came to what I knew.
- 6:17And if I was doing the right thing for my patients, and if I
- 6:21could really be the nurse that I previously was before and I was
- 6:27in a contract. You know, and I felt like I
- 6:31would question myself a lot and after having these meetings with
- 6:35you and really affirming to myself working on getting to the
- 6:40hard part of questions, like why do you feel a certain way and
- 6:45really kind of laying it out flat as and hitting it from
- 6:50every angle? Like what happens if you if the
- 6:53worst does happen or what happens if the worst really
- 6:56doesn't happen if everything's just in my head?
- 6:58Ed and if I really doubt myself and I was able to carry like
- 7:03positive affirmations and the fact that I really did know what
- 7:07I was talking about and took that to clinical practice and it
- 7:11actually I was gained a newfound strength and confidence in
- 7:16myself that I didn't have before.
- 7:18Like Instead of thinking like oh I know my what might be going on
- 7:23my patients and not saying anything and then later on
- 7:26saying, oh yeah, that was going on.
- 7:28Like I was initiating that and and saying like this is what's
- 7:31going on and I was absolutely 100% right because I just felt
- 7:36stronger and confident in myself.
- 7:39And if I didn't have those moments, you know, I we had the
- 7:42affirmations that we worked on together, that I would tell
- 7:45myself a repeat to myself that would really ground me and take
- 7:48me back to To being confident, you know, feeling what you're
- 7:52feeling, anxiety, whatever, and being present with it, and then
- 7:57not letting it affect your day and just continue to move
- 8:00forward. Yeah.
- 8:01And I think it's natural for a lot of us especially who work in
- 8:04like high stressful jobs, you know, and as healthcare workers,
- 8:08and First Responders that we all feel a level of anxiety at some
- 8:12point and I think it Ebbs and it flows, right?
- 8:15Like sometimes we feel really confident and going in and
- 8:18something like I'm things can happen to us or something said
- 8:21to us, and it really, like makes us feel more anxious.
- 8:24And so I think that's great. Like what you said, that one
- 8:28like allowing yourself to just feel anxious, like, living that
- 8:31feel that, you know, go through it.
- 8:34But then remember and remind yourself like, why, why can't
- 8:39you do it? Why are you capable?
- 8:40And like you said, those positive affirmations and really
- 8:43finding what that thought work is for you.
- 8:45That's going to make you remember those things.
- 8:48So that you Can get out of it so that you don't spiral into this.
- 8:51Well, maybe I'm going to start to believe those things that I'm
- 8:55saying about myself and then you try to find all the evidence of
- 8:58why it's true, right? Yeah.
- 9:01So I also want to talk about, you know, I think that as you
- 9:07gain that confidence, you were also able to work on that and
- 9:11bring that into testing. Yes.
- 9:14Maybe you can talk about that because like, for me,
- 9:17personally, testing is like a high.
- 9:19Anxiety. I'm I have this story about
- 9:22myself that I'm not a good test taker, and it does take me a lot
- 9:26of time to pass things. Like it took me multiple times
- 9:30and pass the NCLEX and multiple times to pass my C FR n.
- 9:35And I made that mean like a lot of things about myself as a
- 9:39nurse. And I just had to remind myself,
- 9:41like I am a good nurse and I can do this.
- 9:42So, how was or made for maybe four people out there, who are
- 9:48Maybe Stuck in that same thought that I'm not a good test taker
- 9:52and are anxious about a test going up.
- 9:54Going like coming up for them, what was it that you did or
- 9:57that? We practice that really helped
- 10:00you. So I would say that I can say
- 10:06open and notorious Lee bad test taker is what I would have in my
- 10:09head because I could study and study and study and but I would
- 10:14get super anxious and nervous that my mind would just go
- 10:17blank, you know, I Get a question, get a question and be
- 10:20like, I don't know and freak out and, you know, don't know how to
- 10:24answer it, but I'm really, I do know, you know, you just needed
- 10:27to calm down but I did after working with you.
- 10:30So, doing these affirmations as like why in case my head spirals
- 10:38out, you know, if I get to a question and my head is blank,
- 10:41what am I going to do? Am I either going to just beat
- 10:45myself up and let that consumed me or I'm just going to continue
- 10:50to move forward. So what I would do, previously,
- 10:53let myself get beat up and the rest of the tests would just go
- 10:58downhill because of that one question, and I just keep going
- 11:01back to it and that's not the right mindset to have when
- 11:05you're taking a test and I have notes in my after each meeting
- 11:12that we have and specifically, you know, of these tests that I
- 11:15was taking of the EMT and the paramedic and I would tell
- 11:21myself and it was something that we talk to you together, like
- 11:24okay, so I am an ICU nurse. You know, I can pass these
- 11:28paramedic test, I can get these questions, I can do it, even if
- 11:33I had to take a bathroom break and just look at myself in a
- 11:36mirror and say like, you got this, you know, this, you got
- 11:38this and if you get to a question that is just difficult
- 11:43or you can't figure out the answer.
- 11:45You just don't remember. That's okay.
- 11:47You don't know everything. A thing.
- 11:49And one thing that I kept in my head was, you know, there's
- 11:52always test questions the NCLEX paramedic, there's always at
- 11:55least 10 questions that are just practice.
- 11:59They don't count for anything. So whenever I got one of those
- 12:02questions, I just said that one didn't count.
- 12:06That's not going to count. It doesn't matter.
- 12:08And I just, you know, what, keep moving forward.
- 12:10And with this last exam that I had, for my paramedic license, I
- 12:15was very nervous because I With challenged, a paramedic exam,
- 12:21you know. So I didn't go to paramedic
- 12:23school. So there are many things that
- 12:25you and I talked about that. I was really concerned like,
- 12:27about operations and things that you don't do is ICU nurse, you
- 12:32know, you don't pick out ET tubes.
- 12:34You don't figure out what what you're going to use to intubate.
- 12:39Somebody, or what paralytic. I mean, generally in the ICU but
- 12:43you're not the one initiating those things and it made me
- 12:45nervous to get some question that I wasn't.
- 12:49Not certain about and you kept telling me.
- 12:54So for some reason it took a week to get my results and I
- 12:58just thought I failed, I was like, I failed I failed and he
- 13:01said no, just keep keep having, you know, keep positive.
- 13:04You just you don't know yet. If it doesn't say you failed and
- 13:07I was like no I failed. You know I just just admit it
- 13:10doesn't take this long usually you get to three days, you get
- 13:14your result. It doesn't take a whole week and
- 13:17you were 100%, right? Bypassed and it was a lot of the
- 13:21affirmations and things that we work together.
- 13:23That I feel like really helped me because they really helped
- 13:26ground and Center me especially since I have ADHD.
- 13:29My brain goes everywhere. Yeah.
- 13:31Yeah. And what I love about being a
- 13:33coach to and a mentor is that I can hold that belief for you
- 13:36even when you don't believe in yourself.
- 13:39Like I am I did I 100% thought every time you texted me, like
- 13:44she passes to us. Yeah, I know she passed it and
- 13:47what's great about that and what I was thinking, when you were
- 13:49saying it was that, you know, I hired a tutor and a mentor.
- 13:53This last time that I took to see if her and because I took it
- 13:55six times and passed it. Yeah, I think failed it six
- 13:58times and and I know and I know I'm a good flight nurse and I
- 14:01knew all those things, you know but it created a lot of doubt in
- 14:04me and so this time I hired a mentor and he really helped me
- 14:07like with my fault working. Just like really figuring out.
- 14:10You know, the air is that I was weaker.
- 14:12And and and I 100% think like that's the reason why I passed
- 14:16it this time. Because I think when we do allow
- 14:18ourselves to like create good thoughts when we are anxious and
- 14:21we're doing a test like that's so helpful and being successful
- 14:25in it. Yeah, I 100% agree.
- 14:28I don't feel like I would be where I'm at or be as successful
- 14:33without ever meeting you honestly because me Putting
- 14:39value on myself, you know, and saying like I am worth it and
- 14:44I'm going to invest in myself and the best way to invest in
- 14:46myself is to hire Mentor, find somebody that's going to help me
- 14:51because I can't help myself and 100% areas.
- 14:55Otherwise I know be perfect and there's not a perfect world and
- 15:00I really did need that. I really did need that that push
- 15:03and that help to get through my thought work, because it does
- 15:06make a huge difference on how you think.
- 15:08What you say out loud. But you say to yourself, even
- 15:12when you don't realize that you're saying it to yourself or
- 15:14how you're feeling, you know. So just getting in tune with
- 15:17that. And you being there to kind of
- 15:22like push be like no or I'm nervous about getting this were
- 15:25like, okay, well let's go there, why?
- 15:27And sometimes I'm like, I really want to go there.
- 15:30Like I don't I don't really know, you know, and you ask a
- 15:34question and I'm like, I don't know, I just because I never
- 15:37really thought about that. That and it's something things
- 15:40like just in general. We should think about, we should
- 15:42think about every situation, we should think about everything
- 15:44and how we're going to respond to it.
- 15:46And it makes a huge difference. Yeah.
- 15:48And I love working with you, too.
- 15:50I think like, there's something to be said about someone who
- 15:52wants to be coachable to like, because you are so open to being
- 15:56coachable at like going there sometimes, you know, and feeling
- 16:00uncomfortable and putting in the work, I 100% think that that's
- 16:03why you've gotten the results in your life that you have right
- 16:05now. Well, I definitely don't agree
- 16:10with that because I don't think that on my own.
- 16:14I would have these results. Yeah, and I just think also,
- 16:18there's something to be said about like how showing someone
- 16:20else like your thoughts and then, then helping you get
- 16:23clarity. Yeah, afford and make some big
- 16:26decisions with it so that you can feel confident in the
- 16:28decisions that you're making. Yeah.
- 16:31And I had my last contract, I was actually talking to one of
- 16:35the nurses there and I had to share Shared your information
- 16:38because I had a down moment and I was doing some studying for,
- 16:43you know, the paramedic registry and she was like well what are
- 16:46you doing? It said oh you know I'm working
- 16:48on my paramedic and everybody just kind of gives me the face
- 16:51like your nurse. Why are you doing that?
- 16:53And I have to give the whole explanation, you know.
- 16:56Well I mean I took a class and when I realized doing the
- 17:00scenario that the pre-hospital stuff, I don't know what, I
- 17:05didn't know what I was doing and if you do Know what you're doing
- 17:07for me as I don't want to hurt anybody.
- 17:09So I'm going to go there, I'm going to go to school, I'm going
- 17:12to learn even on the nurse, you know, I don't see it as going
- 17:15backwards and doing that. You know, I knew that I needed
- 17:23guidance and I needed guidance from somebody who is in the
- 17:26field where I want to be, so I can get there.
- 17:29And she was asking me, you know, I've been kind of looking
- 17:33looking for that other, you need a mentor, you know.
- 17:36And I don't think I've ever I never would have said that
- 17:37before and I'm like, you need to do it Center the information and
- 17:41hopefully she did or she's considering it.
- 17:43But I think that it's a really good good move in anybody's
- 17:47anybody's life. I don't think that you have to
- 17:48be in a bad situation to look out real.
- 17:52Somebody, I think it's All purposes of Life.
- 17:56Yeah. And I love to also that you've
- 17:59really learned not only like to have confidence but to have it
- 18:02on back. And I think this is one of those
- 18:04decisions where you really have showed that because you said,
- 18:07like, you know, it isn't a necessity for you to get your
- 18:11paramedic license before applying for flight, nursing for
- 18:14the programs that you're looking at.
- 18:15Some are, I know. But for you it's not.
- 18:17And so for you you know, that you just wanted to increase your
- 18:22knowledge of pre-hospital since you have hospital.
- 18:24So I really think that that self concept of yourself and like,
- 18:29gaining more confidence, is really what got you there and
- 18:31you've been through a lot now, to get to this point, you know,
- 18:34to pass the test and now we're doing application process for
- 18:38getting into it. And so I don't think that just
- 18:42happened to you. I think that came from like the
- 18:44burst of confidence that you really got by having it on back.
- 18:47Yeah yeah I think I can agree with that definitely and 100%
- 18:52you know is because I've been working With you.
- 18:56Yeah and I want to talk about one other thing that you had
- 18:58mentioned before. Was it's really important to
- 19:01take time for yourself. You said and invest in yourself
- 19:04and what I see a lot. And, and for myself either
- 19:08personally as healthcare workers.
- 19:10Like, and First Responders, we forget to invest in ourselves
- 19:14because we pour so much into our patients and into our shifts and
- 19:20into our work. Like we all love what we do
- 19:23because we like to serve people. What would you have to say about
- 19:26the importance of really investing you, you and investing
- 19:29in time in yourself? So I think that investing in
- 19:34yourself and like every capacity is super important.
- 19:37I think a lot of time people focus on the cost of things, you
- 19:41know but like oh that's too expensive.
- 19:43Like first off, I don't think anybody should ever say that out
- 19:45loud. I don't ever say that out loud
- 19:47because you can do it if you really want to do it there's
- 19:50always a way and you don't ever have to even spend Whole bunch
- 19:55of money but it is important to invest in yourself.
- 19:58Like I have a very expensive stethoscope but it's because I
- 20:02invested in myself and you know, people are like that's a lot of
- 20:05money if they like $400 for my stethoscope.
- 20:08Well, it is a lot of money but I need something that's going to
- 20:10be beneficial for me while I'm working.
- 20:12But also when I'm not working, you know go get a massage, go
- 20:17get your car, clean go go do something like I like to you
- 20:21know invest in yourself, make sure Europe, you have peace.
- 20:25and, You know, just when you invest yourself in all areas of
- 20:30life, even doing something as like a pedicure or getting a
- 20:36mentor, to get to the next level or or anything in that nature,
- 20:40It could only be beneficial for you, and you shouldn't a lot of
- 20:45the time people. I feel like they say, oh, I
- 20:47can't do that. That's that's that's too
- 20:49expensive. Like no, like you're worth it.
- 20:50If you're worth it and what you're trying to go for, you
- 20:53feel like is worth it. Then you'll do anything to get
- 20:56Get there if you really want it. Yeah, absolutely.
- 20:59And what would you say to the people out there?
- 21:01Who are? You know, oftentimes like they
- 21:04realize okay yeah you know, I do need to give myself oxygen first
- 21:08before I keep you know helping other people with their masks.
- 21:11But how what would you say to people who are like yeah I
- 21:15understand I need to do that. But now how like where do I
- 21:17start? Yeah, well I think that to
- 21:23start, you know, if you they don't already have somebody that
- 21:27they can reach out to as a mentor.
- 21:29You know, a lot of there's so many, so many things out there
- 21:33that are just free and available for for help, you know,
- 21:37Pinterest has a million and one things to help with breath work
- 21:41and affirmations and YouTube is amazing.
- 21:44There's so many different YouTube's to go across and To
- 21:49learn, you know, and like I do that, honestly, for me, like,
- 21:53for every single test, every single interview, anything that
- 21:56I'm doing, I know somebody else has tried it already.
- 22:00So I just do an internet search. And you come across many
- 22:04different resources that will help you and guide you to a
- 22:09sense, you know, with, to get to, where you're going.
- 22:11And what, you want, what you want to attain you in life.
- 22:15Yeah. And I always say to like, if you
- 22:17don't sometimes people become So engrossed in their job.
- 22:22Like they figure out even what they love to do outside of work.
- 22:26Yeah. And so I always tell them like,
- 22:28figure out like what you love, what you enjoy doing and then
- 22:31just practice like slowly doing those things.
- 22:33And then they'll become something that you do want to
- 22:35put into your schedule, that's out.
- 22:37Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 22:39Definitely like, I mean, I, I picked up painting before too,
- 22:44and I didn't know I could paint and I can actually kind of
- 22:47paint. I really enjoy cooking, too.
- 22:49You know, so those are things that I make sure to incorporate,
- 22:54you know, outside of work. That make me happy, you know,
- 22:58give me joy. Yeah, yeah.
- 23:00And I know that you've also talked about just like being
- 23:04able to not sit still and stay on one thing task for a long
- 23:12time and you easily get distracted.
- 23:14So I think there's other people out there who have similar
- 23:17issues to you. How do you deal with that part
- 23:20of it? So my ADHD is horrible and I got
- 23:24diagnosed when I was in nursing school.
- 23:26So I was like, oh, my whole life makes sense.
- 23:29But what I found that I find what time of the day I most
- 23:34productive at. So for some people it's the
- 23:36morning is the evening like for me, waking up super, super
- 23:40early. It's just, it's not going to
- 23:42fly. I don't want to do that.
- 23:43I want to sleep, but I find that I am better.
- 23:47Maybe the late afternoon So I make sure that if I need to
- 23:51study, or I need to really focus on something, I'm going to
- 23:55schedule it into the time that I know that I'm most open and most
- 24:00relaxed. Like this is the time that I can
- 24:02take all of that in and just really getting to know yourself
- 24:07book. But time in the day you like
- 24:08most like, do you like waking up early in the morning because if
- 24:12you do well, then that might be good.
- 24:14Maybe before everybody else is awake, you know but that's what
- 24:19The thing that I do and then I started making lists.
- 24:23I never people always used to tell me like, oh you need a
- 24:26plan. We need a plan of my, I
- 24:27literally have a stack of planners that don't have
- 24:30anything written in because it just was useless.
- 24:33I didn't it for me, it didn't work.
- 24:35But I started to make a little list on my phone and now I use
- 24:39that a lot and I had a little check boxes.
- 24:42I do that and it's definitely kept me more organized and it
- 24:46makes me feel accomplished when I can check things off the list.
- 24:49East and my like ADHD brain is like, yay!
- 24:52We got things done and it makes me feel super productive.
- 24:55But I also make sure not to make the list really big because if
- 24:58it's really large, I'm like I don't want to do anything, it's
- 25:01too much. So manageable things that I can
- 25:04actually obtain during the day and be like, yes yes, I love
- 25:11that. You really did the Deep dive and
- 25:14the work into knowing what your limitations were.
- 25:17Yeah, like and figuring out what really works for you.
- 25:20And I know that some of our sessions we have talked about it
- 25:22and it has been like, uncomfortable and hard to talk
- 25:24about. But I really think like you have
- 25:27honed in on what works the best for you and that's what's helped
- 25:30you be so successful too. Yeah, you know, it's always been
- 25:36difficult for me. I think to get really dig really
- 25:39deep and ask myself those questions, you know, the
- 25:41questions that that you and I would talk about like I just
- 25:45never got there. And I feel like I had a really
- 25:49rough childhood growing up and then it was, it was not okay, to
- 25:54be vulnerable. It was not okay to, you know,
- 25:58mess up or get something wrong or it was just not, you know, so
- 26:02you never allow your mind to get there.
- 26:04So when you do need to face your emotions or really ask deep
- 26:09questions in yourself, it's very uncomfortable and you know and
- 26:14you don't want to do it but You do when you're able to just find
- 26:19somebody that you trust that you can work with and helps you ask
- 26:23those hard questions and make it really they when you ask them
- 26:29like, oh, I guess there really wasn't that difficult or I'm
- 26:32answering the question like, oh, well, I guess I'm putting these
- 26:35thoughts on myself actually. Now that I'm saying it out loud.
- 26:39Sometimes you need that, you know, and you need to find
- 26:43yourself when you're uncomfortable when Your most
- 26:47productive, what you're feeling and you know why you feel that
- 26:52way. So that way you can know how to
- 26:54deal with it. I think it is hard for a lot of
- 26:57us in general just to be vulnerable like we want to stuff
- 27:00it down, you know and then often times it just like comes up
- 27:03until like this big volcano and it's harder to to get back to
- 27:08where we want to be, you know. Yeah so yeah, I agree like
- 27:11finding that person that you can trust it really talk about those
- 27:15tests situations or really Two are out like you're feeling so
- 27:18that you can move forward with it.
- 27:20Yeah, so just last question for you Vicky.
- 27:24I know you've had a lot of probably advice and people tell
- 27:30you poignant information, that's probably really helped you in
- 27:33your career so far. But what's one thing that you
- 27:36can remember or that you've kind of held on to that has propelled
- 27:40you to who you are today in your career?
- 27:45So, I have had the have been very fortunate to have like, my
- 27:53preceptor is different receptors that I've had throughout my
- 27:55nursing career have really been amazing.
- 27:59Amazing, people that I still talk to and hold very close to
- 28:03me. And one specifically I've known
- 28:07her. Since she was attacked, she
- 28:08became my educator. She became my supervisor, she
- 28:11became my manager, You know and she always told me, it doesn't
- 28:18matter what anybody says. You know you shouldn't do
- 28:21something this way. You shouldn't do something that
- 28:23way you should do it this way, like whatever path you find and
- 28:28that is something that you want to do.
- 28:30You do it doesn't matter what shortcuts you have to take or
- 28:33not or the long way in my case like what people would call the
- 28:37long way, you know you do what you have to do because at the
- 28:40end of the day that is going to make you Nurse and the person
- 28:45that you want to be, you know, everybody goes through things in
- 28:49life, whether we like it or not when and how it's supposed to
- 28:54happen. Yeah.
- 28:55And it's our responsibility to figure out what to learn from
- 29:01that and how to move forward. And that's one thing that I
- 29:04always like, keep close to me. Is that whenever something bad
- 29:07is happening, also, or I feel like something's Road blocking
- 29:11my way or a struggle. I No, like okay, well, what can
- 29:15I learn from this? And why everything happens for a
- 29:17reason, whether we see it now or later, you know, it might even
- 29:21be like that. Struggle that you went through
- 29:24is meant to keep you stronger for the next chapter in your
- 29:27life. Yeah, so that's, that was very
- 29:31important thing that she's always told me since we were
- 29:34texting each other. You know, I love that too.
- 29:37Because I think, you know, obviously, we all have
- 29:39experience of facing trials and obstacles.
- 29:41And then just remembering like, we Go back to our.
- 29:44Why do we want it? Like why do we want to get
- 29:47there? Like what's our reason reason
- 29:49why we want to do it, you know? And so I think that is really
- 29:52valuable to people to, you know, take that advice that you got
- 29:56to. So I think that's, that's great
- 29:58to be always thinking about that.
- 30:00Ya know, your why? Yeah, yeah.
- 30:04Well, thanks for being on Vicki today.
- 30:05I think there was like a lot of really good information and I
- 30:08really hope that someone hears your story and, you know, can
- 30:12relate and Apply it and help themselves in their lives if you
- 30:17know something sticks out to them that that they can either
- 30:21do better on or know that other people are going through.
- 30:24Similar situations. Yes, thanks for being on.
- 30:27Vicky will talk with you soon. Okay, thank you.
- 30:30Good night.
