- 1:00[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, happy New Year, doing well, you know, fun weekend of watching, watching lots of, we're not weekend, but watching lots of football over the last couple of days and got some more coming up as well.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_02]: And before we do get started here, we'll be talking about the dolphins and the patriots.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_02]: in this ball game here, but I do want to start with, as always, Thompson's a guard.

- 1:53[SPEAKER_02]: All right coach so the NFL season felt like it came in the blink of an eye and it is
- 2:05[SPEAKER_02]: Here we are, week 18.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_02]: We know, unfortunately, that this is the last time the dolphins are going to be lining up on the field in Foxboro.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_02]: Last week, the dolphins had a bit of a bounce back performance versus Tampa Bay, obviously off the heels of losing to Cincinnati in really disappointing fashion.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_02]: there was, again, once again, as the dolphins have done all their season to their credit.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_02]: they bounce back, they showed a fight.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_02]: And a lot of it came from some of the younger players, you know, we had guys like Andrew Meyer making his first NFL start.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_02]: We had guys like Jason Marshall making plays in the defensive backfield Kenneth Grant.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_02]: I think had his best game as a pro to this point.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_02]: And you've got other young players Dante Trader,
- 3:04[SPEAKER_02]: the obese with the long touchdown reception.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_02]: So the dolphins definitely towards the end of the year, here kind of leaning into that youth.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_02]: And they're going to be playing a Patriot squad here and we get team that does indeed have something to play for.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_02]: Looking to secure the number one seed in the AFC.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_02]: So they will be playing at 4.30 this week just to make sure that they are playing at the same time as Denver.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's clearly a different kind of challenge this week.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_02]: Then it was last week against Tampa Bay at home going on the road to Foxboro going to be a little bit colder, you're playing a team that is.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_02]: I guess when it comes to this ballgame in specific and some of the things that the Patriots can do offensively with Drake May and his mobility and the explosiveness of Prairie Beyond Henderson, Ramonder Stevenson's got healthy.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_02]: He's become a big part of that
- 4:27[SPEAKER_02]: in a way that that looks a little bit more like what we saw versus Tampa versus then since an atty because there's been a lot of inconsistency in the last two weeks.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think you're going to, I mean, the only way that the Dolphins really standard chance is to find a way to foster Drake may, right, whether that is able to get home on blitzes, being able to bring him down, which, you know, bringing down these bigger quarterbacks
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: getting him on the run, but not in a way that makes him comfortable, like Baker may feel when he was on the run was not, you know, running in open space and having opportunities to make, you know, second and third level decisions there.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_00]: So flush him out of the pocket isn't a bad thing, but you have to have somebody else reacting
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: he has shown the ability to, you know, you let him get out of the pocket.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_00]: He's got the ability to run the ball as well as, as make you pay.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think that the, the weapons the patriots have.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: There's not really a standout weapon in my opinion, but when you, you know, get three, four receivers,
- 5:48[SPEAKER_00]: add in the tight ends they have, add in the running backs they have, there are a lot of different options.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, it's not, it's not a game where you can go in and you can say, we're going to go in and we're going to shut down this one receiving target and be comfortable with everything else.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_00]: You're really going to have to play a very mistake free defense, right?
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: You have that blown coverage and one of those receivers slip steep.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: He's got the arm to get it there, right?
- 6:22[SPEAKER_00]: He's he's rolling the throw it.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_00]: So you can't have that happen, right?
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: When he gets outside of the pocket, you have to be able to rotate into it without leaving a guy completely open.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_00]: You have to be able to, when he gets out of the pocket, you're gonna have your four guys rushing and hopefully the dolphins can do a solid job.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_00]: creating pressure with that foreman rush against a beat up Patriots offensive line, but you're not going to, I don't think you're going to get home was for, but I think that you can make Drake man comfortable.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think you can push him out of the pocket, but that alone is not going to be good enough.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: You have to be able to continue to pressure him even when he's outside of the pocket and hope for some turnovers, right?
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: You want to
- 7:10[SPEAKER_00]: either get home with sacks or create some interceptions early, where you have him questioning what he's doing from the rest of the game, obviously young confident quarterback playing near MVP level, if not MVP level, if you let him get comfortable then this can easily turn into a blowout.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, you go back to the first game that we saw these two teams play and again, see each other.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_02]: It feels like number one.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_02]: It was an eternity ago now.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_02]: You know, going back to the second week of the season for for the dolphins.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, I find I find myself kind of worrying that the game could go in a similar
- 8:01[SPEAKER_02]: way again, except maybe without as much offensive success for the dolphins, because I look at what the Patriots did offensively versus Miami and you know, a lot of it was the dolphins actually covered pretty well in the back end.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_02]: But again, it was those plays when the plays broke down and Drake May had the make plays outside of structure.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_02]: He was able to convert.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_02]: It was the it was the passes underneath to his running backs into Hunter Henry over the middle.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_02]: And I just I'm not I just don't know if the dolphins are equipped to counter it because I I I don't want to send you don't want to send the blitz
- 8:49[SPEAKER_02]: because if you number one, if you over pursue me, he's gonna get out and he's gonna run.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_02]: Number two, they have really elite outlet options as well.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_02]: And so, you know, it just really feels like, to your point, you've got to disrupt me with four.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_02]: And we've been seeing to the credit
- 9:18[SPEAKER_02]: I think a guy like Kenneth Grant and recent weeks has gotten a lot more push in the past rush as far as, you know, getting the offensive line pushed back into the quarterback, but I mean, they're going to have to find more along this line and right now your your edge play is.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_02]: not very good.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, that's not even to mention Chopra Robinson status who I believe he's still questionable at this point.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_02]: And even if he does play, he really hasn't been all that effective this season.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_02]: So I just, I look at it and I'm like, okay, well,
- 10:07[SPEAKER_02]: I trust the dolphin secondary against these patriots or seabers.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_02]: Patriots have an improved group of past catchers over last year, but it's still not as good as either of the last to receiving course of the dolphin saw versus Cincinnati or versus Tampa.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that the dolphins are strong enough in the secondary to hang with those guys.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_02]: It's just the matter of sure you can cover for two maybe three seconds, but if the defensive line isn't able to bring
- 10:39[SPEAKER_02]: You know, May is going to find somebody out of structure, and that's really what I worry about in this one, but flipping things over from from the defensive side of the football to the offensive side of the football.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_02]: You know, one of the things that we've talked about over the last few weeks, and it's kind of become a trend here is.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_02]: You know, the Dolphins tendency to kind of start quickly, recently, on offense with when you were, you know, which I think is, I think can be attributed to maybe some early scripting in the games from McDaniel, and just really doing a good job of getting viewers comfortable and settled into the game early.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_02]: This Patriots defense, while it is
- 11:34[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we saw it with Devon H and in the first matchup and you know, another guy that I'm kind of excited to see in this game because he's really come on of late.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_02]: in the run game is, you know, I want to see Jalen Wright have a really strong finish to the season.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's kind of been a little bit of a bizarre situation.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_02]: What the dolphins running back to spot because it felt like it was Jalen Wright at the very beginning of the season and then Ollie Gordon kind of took it and now Jalen Wright's kind of taking it back.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, if the dolphins are going to win this football game, if they're going to compete in this football game,
- 12:21[SPEAKER_02]: I think they're going to have to play the the time of possession, keep away from the Patriots, offense, really lean into your run game.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_02]: And they've added the physicality over the last five, six weeks to be able to do a little bit more of that to where you're really only asking when to make the occasional throw.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_02]: And it is credit, you know, he's showing that when he's been called upon, he can make
- 12:48[SPEAKER_02]: you know, the occasional throw extend the drive on third down what have you.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_02]: I guess just getting around to it, what does from your perspective, offensive success versus the Patriots look like in this one?
- 13:08[SPEAKER_00]: I guess the answer that question depends on what is your
- 13:15[SPEAKER_00]: what's your goal right is the goal to as you put it come out here and be competitive or try to win the game right if that's what you're going for then yes it's going to be the formula that you talked about where you are run heavy right you lean into that those outside zone run schemes you have your boot action off of that you don't ask when yours do a whole lot
- 13:42[SPEAKER_00]: and your goal has to be to not have three announced, right?
- 13:49[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to at least convert one first down every single drive and give the defense a chance to get off the field, a chance to rest.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_00]: To the point of the early success versus the later success,
- 14:09[SPEAKER_00]: It feels like he struggles, right?
- 14:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think you make a good point there, but it also makes me wonder, right?
- 14:15[SPEAKER_00]: Is that also where twin viewers is struggling as well, right?
- 14:19[SPEAKER_00]: He gets those early scripts, they've sat there and they've watched that film all week and he has a good idea of what the defense is gonna do.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_00]: And that's, he's able to execute those, but then you get beyond that opening script and then the defense starts to make some adjustments,
- 14:38[SPEAKER_00]: And he's getting bogged down at that point.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know what the answer there is, but then the other side of it is like, what is a win really due for the dolphins here?
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: Not a whole lot.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_00]: So is it more important to come out here?
- 14:54[SPEAKER_00]: go with the game plan to try to compete with the Patriots and a game that doesn't matter to the dolphins whether they can beat or is this a game where you come out and you say that you're playing, you know, one of the top teams in the league right now, right?
- 15:08[SPEAKER_00]: Let's see what Quinn viewers has.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_00]: Do you lean on him a little more?
- 15:12[SPEAKER_00]: Do you ask him to do a little more?
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: Because we, you know, through two games, we don't know what we have in Quinn viewers.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think that we
- 15:19[SPEAKER_00]: Think that we have somebody who is at least a good backup option, but we don't know whether or not this is a player that can be a starter next year, and nothing that he does versus the Patriots is going to make a definitive answer one way or the other on that, but if you do try to put a little more pressure on him and put a little more on his shoulders.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_00]: kind of, I don't want to say, center the offense around him because the offense should always be centered around Devon H and as long as he's here, but do you put a little more on his plate to see if he is capable of handling it?
- 15:58[SPEAKER_00]: Because if if you are having that conversation today as the weather or not, Quinn Yures should be part of that competition for the starting quarter back in 2026.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_00]: then you kind of want to see what he can do in those situations because if he does become the starter in 2020, it's some point you're going to run into a situation where he's got to be the guy making play.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know, it'll be interesting to see the way the dolphins pursue this game, whether they are grinded out, run the clock down, you know,
- 16:36[SPEAKER_00]: they're going to snap the ball with very little time left on the clock every play whether they're trying to win or not.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: That's just the way the dolphins are.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_00]: But are they are they getting out there and just letting that clock run or are they, you know, are they getting out of the tunnel early and just letting the clock run because they want to get out of there or are they
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: getting those lengthy play calls and really seeing what twin viewers can handle and having him make adjustments to the line and that's why it's running the clock down.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_00]: So it'll be interesting to see which way the dolphins go, you know, with how they handle the rookie quarterback.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I think it's the, you know, it's interesting that you bring that up and that's
- 17:20[SPEAKER_02]: Perfect transition because it is something that I want to talk about is, you know, what the goal of this game should be versus, you know, are you are you just out here trying to win this football game and I think that there's a
- 17:34[SPEAKER_02]: align that you that you ride there because you want to see your young players ideally in competitive football games in situations like these and how they respond.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_02]: In the course of a game that's that's a hotly contested, but the other aspect that I think is going to be really interesting here is, you know, it's going to be 27 28 degrees with a windshield of 15 16 and Foxborough.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_02]: And I mean, listen, we've heard so much about the dolphins and cold weather and quarterback play and cold weather for the dolphins.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, I think it's a unique opportunity for Quinn early on to kind of separate himself in that way and show that he can perform, you know, granted it's not going to be snowing or particularly windy or anything like that.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_02]: still, it's something that the dolphins have historically struggled with.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_02]: And this is where he can kind of show that he can compete in the elements.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_02]: Again, no, I don't think anyone's expecting or, you know, I don't think anyone should be expecting a win.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_02]: But I think what you can say is if you get a similar
- 18:55[SPEAKER_02]: performance to what you got even last week.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_02]: This week again, versus a better team, I think you come away very encouraged with what you see in, in, in, when you are in, in his ability to do at least be a backup next season for this, for this football team.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_02]: But the interesting thing here is because I, I feel like we have somewhat of an understanding that, when you are,
- 19:22[SPEAKER_02]: likely to be on the roster in 2026.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_02]: More likely than not.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_02]: But there are some interesting whispers going around about Mike McDaniel coming into this game.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_02]: And it kind of feels like an abrupt shift from what we'd been, you know, some of the talk that had been going around
- 19:52[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and it kind of comes off the heels of, I think the dolphins may be being a little bit further along and the general managers searched then we had known at this point.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_02]: But just in the context of this game.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_02]: you know, this this one game, his job hinges on this one, like that shouldn't be the case, but is there anything that he can show from his perspective?
- 20:34[SPEAKER_02]: I guess really through Quinn that that strengthens or takes away from his argument going to the exit meetings on Monday.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_00]: Not really, you know, I feel like with what's come out recently with the GM search and that, you know, it sounds like Brandon sure is going to be the one that kind of heads up a lot of it and I'm sure that they've been doing a lot of background work from the time that.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_00]: They decide that Chris Greer was no longer going to be part of the organization, you know, I'm sure they've been doing a ton of work on the on the GMs that they want to talk to.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_00]: And they probably have some conversations with those GMs about Mike McDaniel.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_00]: So I think they have a very solid idea.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_00]: of whether or not they are going to keep making or not, I expect them to keep it, especially with the whole brand and short thing, you know, feels like they don't want to change too much that they may feel like they have a solid base and they want to continue to build it out.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think that a big part of that may come down to who has that final say, right?
- 21:56[SPEAKER_00]: Is it Brandon Shore, somebody's been here in the building with Mike McDaniel that gets that final say on the head coach or is it the GM that they bring in with more of a scouting background?
- 22:07[SPEAKER_00]: And he's the one that gets to, you know, decide whether it's deciding for 2026 or whether it's giving, you know, kind of a experiment trial year was McDaniel in the
- 22:20[SPEAKER_00]: and making a decision in 2027, but to your question is to what Mike McDaniel can do.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_00]: If they've already decided that he is not going to be the head coach, then there is nothing at all that he can do in this game to change that.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_00]: And if they have decided that he's going to be the head coach, and it would be hard for anything to change that.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_00]: But if they're still on the fence, I think that
- 22:45[SPEAKER_00]: The one thing that could change and I don't expect this to happen, but you know, if the team shows up and looks completely checked out, right?
- 22:56[SPEAKER_00]: And then we get to the post game interviews and we see some of the stuff that we did last year with the Tyree kills and the Jalen Ramses, like if that ends up repeating itself where the season ends and then players start to air their dirty laundry right after the season.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_00]: Then I think that would be the scenario where I could see, you know, maybe they were leaning towards keeping McDaniel, but we're going to go through this crap again at the end of the season.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_00]: We can't do it again.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_00]: And we got to go a different direction.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_00]: But I think Mike McDaniel will be back for 2026.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think there's a whole lot in this game that will change that one way or the other.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_02]: It lots of speculation about the future of Michael Daniel and really the future of this organization in general upcoming and we will get right on that with you guys after this right here for our sponsor.

- 25:43[SPEAKER_02]: All right, we are back, and we were just discussing Mike McDaniel and kind of just in the narrow view what he could do in this particular game.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not certain, I agree with you.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think there's anything in this particular game that can really be done this way.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_02]: Whatever the organization wants to do one way or the other.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_02]: from your perspective, and I think I know where you land on this, and I think you kind of land where I do here.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_02]: You know, if they're if they're giving this decision to a GM, when he when he ultimately gets hired, I personally I can't see how Mike McDaniel stays on.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_02]: just because again, we're we're we're looking at the same issues every single season.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_02]: I was looking at a graphic from weeks 11 to 17 on third and short.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_02]: The dolphins are converting less than 20% of their opportunities.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_02]: you know, the, the, the snowballing of one bad thing leads to another bad thing leads to another bad thing continues happening.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_02]: Um, you know, we've got again,
- 27:36[SPEAKER_02]: you know, there was some weird tension stuff going on between McDaniel and two of mid-season.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_02]: It felt like, you know, again, the, the, the, the tiring kill situation dragging on into the season this year, with, you know, it's, it seemed like every week he kind of had to prove himself to the team.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I look at 2025 in its entirety and, you know, I understand to, to a certain point that your quarterback rests in a way that you couldn't really see coming and I'm understanding of that with Mike McDonald.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_02]: I just, when I look at the whole year,
- 28:22[SPEAKER_02]: I look at number one, the decision to bring in while we slow it and how that really hasn't paid dividends in the way that we had hoped.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I look at just the additions made.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I mean, you can't blame Mike,
- 28:49[SPEAKER_02]: But you look at the, you just look at the same issues on this team and even on the defensive side of the football, I thought it was.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_02]: I understand Anthony we were like, I commend him coming out and admitting to, you know, the fact that I thought we would just pick up where we left off, but then we get to week one and I realize these aren't the same players.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_02]: but it does kind of feel like you should kind of notice that before you get to a week one.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_02]: And it just, again, I just can't see a new GM coming in.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_02]: If he is given carte blanche to say, this is who I want to be the head coach.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_02]: I just, I can't see how he would be retained at this point.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_00]: if a new GM is given that authority, then I agree with you, but I don't think we're going to get that.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_00]: I think that if they are keeping Brandon sure as the money guy and they are keeping if they keep Mike McDaniel, then I feel like that the GM that comes in,
- 30:11[SPEAKER_00]: is essentially going to end up being a glorified scout, like he, because when you, when you get that strange dynamic, I feel like we're moving towards the situation where we're still going to have guys pulling an opposite directions, because if you keep Mike McDaniel, Mike McDaniel
- 30:40[SPEAKER_00]: above the GM before to get decisions swayed in his favor, if you were to bring in a new high profile GM and you, you know, and Steven Ross was to come out the way they do with Chris Greer and say, this is the guy that's running the show, right?
- 31:04[SPEAKER_00]: You know, maybe you could believe it from that perspective that Stephen Ross is going to lean on that guy a little more, but if Brandon sure is the guy that is kind of running like the top dog in that hierarchy, right, and you're keeping Mike McDaniel on, then.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know where those decisions come down, right?
- 31:29[SPEAKER_00]: Because there's always a money decision, right?
- 31:31[SPEAKER_00]: There's an on the field decision.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_00]: There's a future capital decision, right?
- 31:37[SPEAKER_00]: And those all fall into three different people there.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_00]: So you're going to pull different directions when it comes to personal decisions.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_00]: And who really gets that decision?
- 31:47[SPEAKER_00]: Is it brand-in-sure from the money side of it that it gets to decide, hey, this is how we get our books to look good.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_00]: moving forward?
- 31:55[SPEAKER_00]: Is it Mike McDaniel who says, you know, these are the guys that I need today for this team to perform.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_00]: Or is it a GM that is trying to look at it from a longer, a longer term?
- 32:09[SPEAKER_00]: So I, with the reports that, you know, it's going to be brand and sure, it's going to be part of whatever the future of this front offices.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_00]: I just feel like the GM that
- 32:23[SPEAKER_00]: is not going to get that carplunch power to do everything that he would want to, unless I, I, and obviously that news was fresh today and we'll find out more of it as we move forward.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_00]: But the impression that I got from those reports is that this, this GM position is going
- 32:52[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, that's, that's a really interesting point that you make because at that point I almost wonder why even go through the point like why even go through the action size of firing Chris Greer in the first place.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_02]: You want a guy that's going to be a better scout I assume, but Chris Greer famously is somebody that kind of just goes out and follows his head coaches direction and if you're hiring a guy that's a glorified scout as your GM, you're kind of hiring a guy to do the exact same thing.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_02]: Now granted, I think that there's still a litany of factors that change here, because there's one way in which it makes sense to me, and the only way it makes sense to me is, if you're going to hire a, and I say weaker in terms of just organizational power, if you're going to hire a weaker GM,
- 34:03[SPEAKER_02]: The only thing that makes sense to me is whoever loses in Pittsburgh and in the game for the NF for the AFC North, that head coach is either fire or resigns and then you bring in a strong head coach, you know, Alla, a Mike Tomlin or a John Harball and then that guy kind of has the
- 34:35[SPEAKER_02]: This is my vision, go ahead and bring guys in to to kind of execute on that vision.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_02]: As coaches, dolphins flagged his fallen in the background a fitting metaphor for this season to this point.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_02]: But it's an interesting time for the Miami dolphins.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_02]: And one that I think will kind of be determinant of how the rest of their season is going to go.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_02]: But I guess just from your perspective, I know that you're, you're kind of lean, McDaniel is back, but if on Monday, we hear that whether it's hardball or Tomlin, if we hear one of those guys is no longer the head coach of their respective organizations.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_02]: is Mike McDaniel fired or is Steven Ross hopping in the helicopter with a head coach under contract again?
- 35:47[SPEAKER_00]: I think those are two separate conversations.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Steven Ross is proven that he will listen when those opportunities present themselves.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_00]: I am not as high on Mike Tomlin.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I mean, he's had all the winning records.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_00]: He has the, the longevity, but to me, he really hasn't won enough to earn that kind of reputation.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_00]: You know, he, he won some, some stuff early on with Ben Rothle's burger and a roster that he was, was given, but
- 36:32[SPEAKER_00]: To be honest, Mike Thomas track record isn't even significantly better than Mike McDaniel's over that, you know, since brothelsburgers were tired.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's been a bunch of ravaged teams, right?
- 36:45[SPEAKER_00]: A bunch of teams that are just barely above 500.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_00]: And that's, you know, Mike McDaniel can do that, right?
- 36:51[SPEAKER_00]: Where we almost did it last year.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_00]: We could have done it this year.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_00]: So I am not as impressed by Mike Tomlin is a lot of people seem to be
- 37:02[SPEAKER_00]: John Harball on the other side is one that I would, right?
- 37:07[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, he does, he is built the team in different ways and made deep playoff runs in one championships.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think that Stephen Ross made lean a little more towards John Harball just because of, you know, being the brother of Jim Harball, right?
- 37:26[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you know, he wanted Jim, right?
- 37:29[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 37:30[SPEAKER_00]: If you can't get Jim, why not get John?
- 37:34[SPEAKER_00]: So that would be a scenario that I can see Steven Ross inviting him down on the yacht, right?
- 37:42[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe with a mystery GM candidate that we find out a few months from now was on the yacht with him together.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_00]: That kind of thing.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_00]: So, I mean, Lairl,
- 37:56[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think that Mike McDaniel will be back in 2026.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that he is untouchable by any means at all, right?
- 38:06[SPEAKER_00]: So if there was a candidate that came available that was a clear upgrade, did I think that's still a conversation that you have.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_00]: is that you don't have to come out and make that decision right away.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like last year, it felt kind of important for him to come out after the season, like if they knew there are running stuff back, right?
- 38:38[SPEAKER_00]: It felt important to come out right away, silence the rumors, right?
- 38:44[SPEAKER_00]: These are the guys that were bringing back.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_00]: There's no reason to come out on Monday,
- 38:51[SPEAKER_00]: and say that Mike McDaniel is going to return as the head coach because you have this GM search to conduct.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_00]: And it would be a disservice to the GM process to name the coach ahead of that time, right?
- 39:08[SPEAKER_00]: Even if you've already decided that Mike McDaniel is going to be back and you've told Mike McDaniel behind closed doors that you plan on bringing him back, I don't see a scenario where they come
- 39:20[SPEAKER_00]: come out publicly and say, Mike McDangles, the head coach in 2026, ahead of that GM filling.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_00]: So from that perspective, I think it'll work in the Dolphins favor because even if Steven Ross sits there on Sunday morning, this has Mike, we're looking forward to having you back in 2026 and then black Monday comes and we get some unexpected candidates, then, you know,
- 39:49[SPEAKER_00]: flip the switch and be like, look, Mike, I know we talked about.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't expect this guy to be here.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_00]: And I think he gives our franchise a better chance to win.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that they're in a better position to do something like that this year, because they don't have to come out and say anything as soon as the season ends.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's more of a grace period there that if those candidates do come available, that you don't have to, you don't have to secretly do it.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_00]: you're not going to look like the villain by entertaining those other head coaches in that sense.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_02]: No, definitely not.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_02]: And there is a lot of smoke around all this by all reporting we will be seeing.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_02]: We should be getting word of who's going to be interviewing for it seems like interviews are going
- 40:45[SPEAKER_02]: uh... so what we'll see we'll see what ends up happening there with this uh... situation and we'll have plenty of it time to talk about all these big organizational decisions in the offseason but for now there is still a game to be played on sunday one final time in twenty in the twenty twenty five twenty six season on the road at Foxborough sunday at four thirty the dolphins will take on the patriots
- 41:13[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and another opportunity for the young players to kind of showcase themselves make a case to be on the roster in 2026, we will have post game for you.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_02]: I think we should, um, on that game on Sunday afterwards to discuss all of it.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_02]: So, please stay tuned on that.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_02]: And as we go into the off season, we'll get into just some season review stuff, some draft stuff for the agency stuff.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_02]: I know we'll have a lot of that good stuff on the way for everyone.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_02]: So we will see you guys next time.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you very much.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_02]: And go fans, baby.
