2 Samuel 18-19 show the painful outcome of Absalom’s rebellion. In 2 Samuel 18, Absalom dies, David’s kingdom is preserved, but David is crushed with grief. In 2 Samuel 19, David returns toward Jerusalem, but the nation is still wounded, divided, and unstable. The simple truth is this: Some victories still leave deep sorrow behind. When sin, rebellion, and unresolved family pain run their course, even a necessary victory can feel like a funeral.
