- 0:02Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett. I wanted to voice my
- 0:08Speaker 1: thoughts on the passing of one hundred year old Jimmy Carter,
- 0:13Speaker 1: the thirty ninth President of the United States. Firstly, he
- 0:18Speaker 1: was the elder statesman of our entire nation as president
- 0:27Speaker 1: and then ex president. He then oversaw advise and held
- 0:33Speaker 1: the mantle for seven more presidents in his one hundred
- 0:38Speaker 1: year life. Can you imagine still being advising to the
- 0:46Speaker 1: current president and in his late nineties, which Carter was
- 0:53Speaker 1: to Joe Biden. Can you imagine this man who may
- 0:58Speaker 1: have had a rocky presidency yet love this country so much.
- 1:02Speaker 1: He was always there for the seventh presidents that followed
- 1:07Speaker 1: after him. He even prayed for President Trump and said
- 1:15Speaker 1: so publicly and personally. He got to know my mom
- 1:23Speaker 1: and I am my dad a little bit too, as
- 1:28Speaker 1: my mom said a prayer at President Carter's church in
- 1:37Speaker 1: the eighties, and then my dad and I in the
- 1:41Speaker 1: nineties met him at a book signing in Barnes and
- 1:46Speaker 1: Noble for his children's book, and he insisted we get
- 1:50Speaker 1: a picture where that picture is. I have no idea
- 1:56Speaker 1: but for the man to hold this country together just
- 2:02Speaker 1: by being alive I think, and showing up and being
- 2:07Speaker 1: vocal about who he was going to vote for in
- 2:09Speaker 1: this election alone, he of course voted for Kamala Harris.
- 2:16Speaker 1: He's an example of living a long successful life, moral
- 2:28Speaker 1: based life also, but a long successful, special kind of life.
- 2:42Speaker 1: And not only is he amazing for seeing the mantle
- 2:46Speaker 1: and holding the mantle for seven presidents after him, he
- 2:51Speaker 1: held on quite a long, quite a couple of years,
- 2:53Speaker 1: longer after his wife, his beloved Roslind Carter passed, held
- 2:59Speaker 1: on long enough to for Kamala. That's sticking with it
- 3:08Speaker 1: to the very end. So it is fitting that as
- 3:13Speaker 1: we close twenty twenty four, with it goes the Elder Statesman. Now,
- 3:21Speaker 1: the challenge is, how do we as Americans to keep
- 3:24Speaker 1: it together like Jimmy Carter would want? How would we
- 3:31Speaker 1: as people who love America as much as Jimmy Carter did.
- 3:35Speaker 1: You don't go into habitat for humanity. You don't go
- 3:38Speaker 1: and still be advisor for seven presidents after you were
- 3:42Speaker 1: voted out. If you didn't love this country like Jimmy
- 3:46Speaker 1: Carter did. Hell, you wouldn't even become a You won't
- 3:48Speaker 1: even go from peanut farmer to president if you didn't
- 3:52Speaker 1: love the country like Jimmy Carter did. And he did.
- 4:00Speaker 1: And I love the documentary on him where they included
- 4:02Speaker 1: the Allman Brothers on the campaign tour back in the
- 4:10Speaker 1: nineteen seventies. He was cool and personable, and I look
- 4:23Speaker 1: at and that likable character in the office of the
- 4:29Speaker 1: United States President, in the oval office should be something
- 4:33Speaker 1: every president strives for. Carter one with charisma. Maybe the
- 4:42Speaker 1: loss of Jimmy Carter will inspire those with charisma to
- 4:47Speaker 1: lead our country and those who might be seen as
- 4:51Speaker 1: little rough around the edges lightens up a bit as
- 4:56Speaker 1: present and becomes personable Jimmy Carter was. And maybe that
- 5:04Speaker 1: man of faith side of Jimmy Carter could also appear
- 5:11Speaker 1: in the White House again. He loved the country, He
- 5:18Speaker 1: stuck to his morals and his faith. And a couple
- 5:22Speaker 1: of more thoughts before I end tonight. I think the
- 5:25Speaker 1: Democrats could learn from how President Carter maneuvered and engineered
- 5:30Speaker 1: the Camp David Accords between Egypt and Israel. That's one
- 5:35Speaker 1: of the biggest accomplishments he had in his presidency. And
- 5:40Speaker 1: then finally President Carter, through habitat for humanity and just
- 5:45Speaker 1: his community feel kept America together, kept his communities together.
- 5:51Speaker 1: See in his stead after we lose the elder statement
- 5:55Speaker 1: of the country, Jimmy Carter, why don't we work to
- 5:58Speaker 1: keep America together? Because we're already a great country. And
- 6:03Speaker 1: President Carter Shore was an example of it, and he
- 6:07Speaker 1: did it his way
