- 0:29Speaker 1: Welcome to Table Talk here at the Philadelphia Sports Table
- 0:31Speaker 1: podcast show, the longest running weekly Philly sports podcast show
- 0:34Speaker 1: in the world, twelve years strong. We've got a great
- 0:37Speaker 1: table talk interview show coming your way this week. We're
- 0:40Speaker 1: gonna be diving into this Philadelphia Flyers team. The season
- 0:44Speaker 1: is almost upon us, but we've recently had development camp.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Preseason is here and we got a great guest this
- 0:51Speaker 1: week from Broadstreet Hockey dot Com. I'm a subscriber over there,
- 0:55Speaker 1: and we love talking to the folks over there. We've
- 0:58Speaker 1: got Thomas who is joining us. Thomas, thank you so
- 1:02Speaker 1: much for jumping on. Thomas Williams.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Folks.
- 1:04Speaker 3: How you doing, buddy, Yeah, yeah, thanks for having me. Yeah,
- 1:08Speaker 3: I've seen your show before when Kelly's come on and
- 1:11Speaker 3: dah yeah, other people and other folks from Broadsweet Hockey.
- 1:13Speaker 3: So I'm happy to be here.
- 1:14Speaker 1: It's great to have you, man, it really is. Look,
- 1:17Speaker 1: I am so excited for this Flyers season to start.
- 1:20Speaker 1: You know, whether I was talking to Kelly, you know,
- 1:22Speaker 1: our friend mutual friend Ryan Gilbert as well other folks
- 1:25Speaker 1: who've come on this podcast to talk about the Flyers.
- 1:28Speaker 1: The plan in place, as Danny Brier has set this
- 1:32Speaker 1: foundation now seems to really be coming to fruition in
- 1:35Speaker 1: different ways.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Now. Is this going to be a Cup contender anytime soon? No,
- 1:39Speaker 2: but it's going to be interesting.
- 1:40Speaker 1: To see the fruits of Danny Brier's labor really manifesting
- 1:46Speaker 1: itself throughout this season. And he just recently made a
- 1:49Speaker 1: move this past week here. So I want to start
- 1:52Speaker 1: off with the big news here in Flyers Nation talking
- 1:55Speaker 1: about the trade of Ivan Fidotov to the Blue Jackets.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I mean, personally, Thomas, I'm glad they cleaned up the
- 2:02Speaker 1: depth at the goalie position before the start of this season.
- 2:05Speaker 1: I mean, when you look at fodotub dear lord, he
- 2:07Speaker 1: had he had a horrible eight to eighty save percentage
- 2:10Speaker 1: and a three point one five goals against average in
- 2:14Speaker 1: twenty six games last season.
- 2:16Speaker 2: I'm surprised anybody took him on.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Quite frankly, but I look glad he's moving on, you know,
- 2:21Speaker 1: given the situation at the goalie position. But also this
- 2:25Speaker 1: affects the Flyer salary cap situation. And you wrote a
- 2:29Speaker 1: really good piece over on Broadstreet Hockey dot Com specifically
- 2:32Speaker 1: about this. I'm hoping you can kind of get into
- 2:34Speaker 1: that piece can you get into how Ivan Fodotov being
- 2:38Speaker 1: traded really affects the Flyers finances in the future.
- 2:41Speaker 3: Yeah, so I think you're using the term like cleaned up.
- 2:44Speaker 3: It helps for the roster as well. And just like
- 2:46Speaker 3: especially before trading Camp, you don't want Fodotov coming in
- 2:49Speaker 3: and fighting for a role that he doesn't really have
- 2:52Speaker 3: because Dambldar was signed, you would be mistaking if you're
- 2:56Speaker 3: lyed to it. You'd be lying to with his face
- 2:58Speaker 3: be like, yeah, you could win this backup job. No
- 3:00Speaker 3: you can't really, so it gives them an opportunity somewhere else.
- 3:03Speaker 3: But when it comes to the cap. So right now,
- 3:06Speaker 3: puck Pedia, which is a great resource obviously that we've
- 3:08Speaker 3: kind of been using since cap Friendly has gone away,
- 3:12Speaker 3: has the Flyers right now at two point six nine
- 3:15Speaker 3: to five million, So with that in place, and then
- 3:19Speaker 3: it has Alex Bump moving up. That's like a presumption
- 3:23Speaker 3: and just to fill out the twenty three man obviously
- 3:26Speaker 3: ross's really finalized after Trading Camp and everything like that. Right,
- 3:28Speaker 3: but how this affects the majority of the cap is
- 3:32Speaker 3: the big theme last year was that the Flyers didn't
- 3:35Speaker 3: want to go and use lti R, This long Term
- 3:38Speaker 3: Injured Reserve basically allows teams to go above the salary
- 3:43Speaker 3: cap by a certain amount of that player's salary. But
- 3:46Speaker 3: it doesn't like it's not free cap space. You would
- 3:49Speaker 3: have to actually reach that limit and then lets you
- 3:50Speaker 3: go above that. So obviously the big use of that
- 3:54Speaker 3: would be Ryan Ellis, who's probably not playing professional hockey again.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Six point twenty five million of that would allow them
- 4:00Speaker 3: to go into that. But then the problem with doing
- 4:04Speaker 3: that and going into LTR and this is like a
- 4:06Speaker 3: lot of numbers and starting off the show just like
- 4:08Speaker 3: driving into basically got to do an accountant and yeah,
- 4:13Speaker 3: I'm managing bookkeeping. But the reason you don't want to
- 4:17Speaker 3: do that is because Matt Fay mitchkov if he hits
- 4:20Speaker 3: all of his scheduled bonuses, because elc's entry level contracts
- 4:24Speaker 3: have bonuses on them and performance bonuses, and I think
- 4:27Speaker 3: some of them are like finished top ten in le
- 4:29Speaker 3: NHL scoring just stuff.
- 4:31Speaker 4: Some of it's lofty but definitely doable.
- 4:33Speaker 3: If Matt Fave Mitch Coalp is only like a one
- 4:35Speaker 3: hundred point guy like in a couple of years, the
- 4:39Speaker 3: Flyers don't want to do that. So with Mitch cob
- 4:42Speaker 3: still on his ALC. I think a total of bonuses
- 4:46Speaker 3: would mean three point three million is added to this
- 4:49Speaker 3: Flyer's cap. And because it's after the season, you couldn't
- 4:53Speaker 3: just like add it to oh that was last year
- 4:56Speaker 3: unless you actually had that space. So with the Flyers
- 5:00Speaker 3: trading Fordotov and his entire contract and not having salaries chained, now,
- 5:05Speaker 3: if match being Mitchkov hits all of his bonuses, there'd
- 5:08Speaker 3: be minimal damage for next season because if Fadotov was
- 5:11Speaker 3: still on this roster and the Flyers were under the
- 5:14Speaker 3: salary cap but just by a couple hundred thousand, then
- 5:16Speaker 3: suddenly you're seeing three million in change on next year's cap,
- 5:21Speaker 3: which apparently in next summer, according to Danny Breyer and
- 5:24Speaker 3: Keith Jones, is the summer that they want to be
- 5:26Speaker 3: active in free agency trades kind of actually potentially use
- 5:30Speaker 3: that money available to them in a competitive way.
- 5:34Speaker 4: Then you would get into.
- 5:35Speaker 3: A mess to be like that's three million dollars a dude,
- 5:39Speaker 3: like it was really good las yeah here, and it's
- 5:43Speaker 3: just like a waste spot.
- 5:45Speaker 4: So trading you get.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Rid of that potential outcome at least a little bit,
- 5:52Speaker 3: and then the other point would just be general financial
- 5:55Speaker 3: flexibility is always good, always having more money available to
- 5:58Speaker 3: them and trades or I think the deadline cost space
- 6:01Speaker 3: is somewhere. If it stays the same contract or the
- 6:04Speaker 3: same cost space, it's like over twelve million dollars. So
- 6:07Speaker 3: at the trade deadline up coming up in March, you
- 6:09Speaker 3: could take on twelve million dollars worth of cap or
- 6:12Speaker 3: twelve million dollars worth of player if like some team
- 6:15Speaker 3: wants to shed their salary to make a deal work,
- 6:18Speaker 3: and then you get a second round pick for you.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Yeah. Absolutely.
- 6:21Speaker 1: I gotta say I'm still continuing to be impressed with
- 6:25Speaker 1: the moves that Danny Brier is making in terms of
- 6:28Speaker 1: positioning this organization, in this team for the long term.
- 6:31Speaker 1: I mean that is the end of the day, at
- 6:33Speaker 1: the end of the day, that is the name of
- 6:34Speaker 1: the game, the long term here. It's not just about
- 6:37Speaker 1: band aids the short term game plan. It's the long
- 6:40Speaker 1: term here, and I think we got to really keep
- 6:42Speaker 1: that in mind. But talking about the goalie position, yes,
- 6:45Speaker 1: fadotav being traded. As we look at the goalie situation
- 6:49Speaker 1: this year for the Flyers, I mean it seems pretty
- 6:52Speaker 1: obvious now and apparent that Sam Erson and Dan Vladar
- 6:56Speaker 1: they're going to be the two goalies for the Flyers.
- 6:59Speaker 1: And I wasn't necessarily a fan Thomas of how many
- 7:03Speaker 1: games Ersen played last season in his like overall workload,
- 7:08Speaker 1: but I understood what the coaching staff felt that they
- 7:10Speaker 1: had to do last season. I'm wondering how much we
- 7:14Speaker 1: will see of Vladdard this season. I mean, Dan Vlodard,
- 7:17Speaker 1: I mean, not not a horrible goalie by any stretch
- 7:20Speaker 1: of the imagination. But I'm just wondering, what are your
- 7:22Speaker 1: thoughts on the goalie situation, the balance we may see
- 7:25Speaker 1: with that, how much Erson should be playing in front
- 7:28Speaker 1: of the net throughout the year. What are your thoughts here?
- 7:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I think Arison's gonna be the starter for Game one. Yeah,
- 7:34Speaker 3: but it'd be kind of this role of we'll see
- 7:38Speaker 3: how it goes and like every couple games kind of
- 7:40Speaker 3: do a check in and ride the hot hand and
- 7:42Speaker 3: then we'll see how the season ends. But I think
- 7:45Speaker 3: there there will be a mentality in the in the
- 7:47Speaker 3: back of their heads. They're just like, we have to
- 7:49Speaker 3: manage Erson's game time because the more the consistent theme
- 7:53Speaker 3: so far has been, the more he's played the worse
- 7:55Speaker 3: he's been. Yes, and you saw it when he had
- 7:57Speaker 3: to take when he had to take the total number
- 7:59Speaker 3: one spot after last last January twenty twenty three, I
- 8:03Speaker 3: think twenty four actually, but yeah, you saw just the
- 8:08Speaker 3: more he played, worse he got. So I think it'd
- 8:10Speaker 3: be at the top of their minds. But at the
- 8:12Speaker 3: same time, they want to give him enough leash to
- 8:16Speaker 3: not be like restricted and be like, oh, you can
- 8:18Speaker 3: only play forty games this season, yeah, and forty two
- 8:21Speaker 3: ghosts of Ladar, Like. I don't know if they have
- 8:22Speaker 3: that set out as a plan, but I could see
- 8:25Speaker 3: them seeing how it all comes into the wall out
- 8:28Speaker 3: of the wash, and just like approaching the season as
- 8:32Speaker 3: Arison slightly above, but you're not expecting like it's almost
- 8:35Speaker 3: like a fifty five to forty five percentage, but then
- 8:38Speaker 3: that could totally change.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like there needs to be and like, like,
- 8:42Speaker 1: this is the one area I was just talking about
- 8:44Speaker 1: the long term vision of Danny Brier, him setting the
- 8:48Speaker 1: foundation for the future. I feel that this is the
- 8:50Speaker 1: one area of the team where we don't necessarily have
- 8:52Speaker 1: that yet at this point. I mean, I would think
- 8:55Speaker 1: you were seeing this as well, and I'm wondering if
- 8:58Speaker 1: you know, part of what is going to happen during
- 9:01Speaker 1: free agency next season might be that goalie of the future.
- 9:05Speaker 2: So I don't know what are your thoughts here with
- 9:07Speaker 2: regard to that.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Yeah, they have a couple a couple of really interesting
- 9:10Speaker 3: prospects in Yugos Zebracken and Bjarnison, but it's it's still
- 9:15Speaker 3: got like Zebraggins in the Russia for the next two years.
- 9:17Speaker 3: Biannison is making his pro debut this season, So it's
- 9:20Speaker 3: like they're good prospects. But again, prospects, as we know
- 9:24Speaker 3: as sports fans, don't always pan out. You could look
- 9:26Speaker 3: at prospect rankings ten years ago and be like those
- 9:28Speaker 3: that top ten is insane, right, those half of those
- 9:31Speaker 3: guys aren't even playing hockey anymore. So like it's prospects
- 9:35Speaker 3: are prospects in the at the end of the day.
- 9:36Speaker 3: But yeah, I think if they they're going to be
- 9:40Speaker 3: patient with this with the position of course, because I
- 9:42Speaker 3: think Arison's only twenty five ish, yeah, twenty yeah, it's
- 9:47Speaker 3: twenty five, and then Laura's only twenty eight. They're keeping
- 9:49Speaker 3: it as like a long term like there is more
- 9:51Speaker 3: room for especially arison to grow and like you've seen
- 9:55Speaker 3: Logan Thompson hit his stride in Washington at twenty seven,
- 9:58Speaker 3: twenty eight years old. Yeah, like there's that age that
- 10:00Speaker 3: you kind of know what you know and goalies and
- 10:02Speaker 3: ever since had a start is kind of a stop
- 10:05Speaker 3: and start so far, so I think a lot of
- 10:08Speaker 3: it is a wait and see. But at the end
- 10:11Speaker 3: of the day, I think that is the one position
- 10:13Speaker 3: where we're kind of scarred in Philadelphia of like we
- 10:17Speaker 3: need to figure this out as soon as possible. We'd
- 10:20Speaker 3: be like, oh, if Zegres hits as a center, if
- 10:22Speaker 3: like Martona and Mitschkoff are like excellent wingers, if we
- 10:25Speaker 3: have this like crazy good like we could get some
- 10:27Speaker 3: blue line with all of over Banca, Spencer Gill and
- 10:29Speaker 3: like we're forming this wonderful team, and then the goaltending
- 10:32Speaker 3: and position is.
- 10:32Speaker 4: Just like nothing.
- 10:35Speaker 3: We don't want to go into like a Michael Layton situation, right,
- 10:37Speaker 3: So that's so yeah, I think I think I think
- 10:41Speaker 3: that's gonna be like at the top of our minds
- 10:43Speaker 3: of like in two years you're not seeing that progress,
- 10:45Speaker 3: then they might be like, Okay, we need to hit
- 10:47Speaker 3: that button and like get that thirty year old. Do
- 10:50Speaker 3: like what Florida did with signing Pebrovski, and that's our name.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Just here, do that, like we'll over we'll overpay.
- 10:56Speaker 4: For this guy. Just have some just solidify the position.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, all right.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Well, as we're moving along with the conversation here, you know,
- 11:05Speaker 1: rookie campus started for the Flyers and US fans. I
- 11:08Speaker 1: mean we're going to be watching more than a few
- 11:10Speaker 1: players and following a number of storylines here. The first
- 11:15Speaker 1: for me, Thomas, that I'm going to really be looking
- 11:18Speaker 1: at is how jack Nesbit works on his skating. Since
- 11:22Speaker 1: it was the biggest knock on him after being drafted.
- 11:25Speaker 1: I'm really interested to see what he's going to be
- 11:27Speaker 1: doing throughout this preseason. What are you going to be
- 11:30Speaker 1: looking at in terms of Jack Nesbit during the course
- 11:33Speaker 1: of this preseason here.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I think, like you said, like already, a lot
- 11:38Speaker 3: of it will be a skating I did see an
- 11:40Speaker 3: improvement from what I saw of the rookie games compared
- 11:43Speaker 3: to Windsor. Compared to Windsor last year. I was watching
- 11:46Speaker 3: a lot of Windsor games, just like really interested in
- 11:48Speaker 3: a couple prospects there.
- 11:50Speaker 4: But yeah, I think his skating.
- 11:52Speaker 3: I didn't see a lot of what I had an
- 11:54Speaker 3: issue with last season when I was looking forward to
- 11:55Speaker 3: the draft of like that kind of quick chunky feet
- 11:59Speaker 3: almost like you're kind of like it's almost like, uh,
- 12:02Speaker 3: you know, there's little dogs when you're like when you're
- 12:04Speaker 3: walking around a tiny little dog and then the legs
- 12:06Speaker 3: are going like crazy. That's what how Nesbitt skated and
- 12:09Speaker 3: winds there a little bit, Okay, So I think I
- 12:12Speaker 3: think this past week you got to see like a
- 12:13Speaker 3: little bit more strides and length, length and stuff like that.
- 12:17Speaker 4: So I've seen an improvement.
- 12:18Speaker 3: But I think this so far and training camp, I'll
- 12:20Speaker 3: be looking out for if he can overcome some of
- 12:24Speaker 3: his skating of course, and and really tap into a
- 12:27Speaker 3: lot of his high hockey IQ, get that offensive awareness
- 12:30Speaker 3: that is primarily the reason he was drafted so high
- 12:33Speaker 3: at twelfth overall and teams covered to him at the
- 12:35Speaker 3: center position, and and maybe even use his size, Like
- 12:38Speaker 3: how how he was able to bully a little bit
- 12:41Speaker 3: of the rookies and prospects and everything like that, But
- 12:43Speaker 3: how how is he going up against uh a Nick
- 12:46Speaker 3: Steeler on on defense?
- 12:47Speaker 4: How is he how is he battling.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Against Travis Stanheim, with that reach and everything like that,
- 12:52Speaker 3: it's gonna be really interesting to see him against grown
- 12:55Speaker 3: full time hlers. Sure.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Absolutely, Again, folks were talking to Thomas Williams on Broadstreet
- 13:00Speaker 1: Hockey dot Com. Head on over to Broadstreet Hockey dot Com.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Always fantastic content. We've been having folks from Broadstreet Hockey
- 13:07Speaker 1: dot Com on this podcast platform for years and years.
- 13:10Speaker 1: And Thomas tell everybody where they can find you on
- 13:13Speaker 1: the interwebs out there if they want to connect with
- 13:14Speaker 1: you and read your stuff, let everybody.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Know, Yeah, I'm on Twitter and Blue Sky at Sludge
- 13:20Speaker 3: Williams and yeah, and always read Broadsheet Hockey dot Com.
- 13:24Speaker 3: I'm always righting there almost every day, every single day
- 13:26Speaker 3: doing something. And yeah, we have amazing content, amazing writers
- 13:30Speaker 3: over there. Yeah, but I'm just happy, happy to get
- 13:34Speaker 3: the season started and everything going on.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Over there awesome.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Yes, And if you are nuwe to watching us on YouTube,

- 14:00Speaker 1: Eric and Iron Blue Sky, you can search me out there.
- 14:03Speaker 1: We're also on threads. I'm over on TikTok at mister
- 14:06Speaker 1: Jeff Warren and we're gonna be taking a break right now.
- 14:10Speaker 1: But when we get back, we got a ton more
- 14:12Speaker 1: flyers talk as we're heading into this preseason. Stick with us,
- 14:17Speaker 1: all right, We are back and we are here with
- 14:19Speaker 1: our good friend Thomas Williams from Broadstreet Hockey dot Com. Thomas,
- 14:24Speaker 1: I'm gonna talk about jet Lachenko. Jet Lachenko and his
- 14:27Speaker 1: health is certainly a question mark heading into this season,
- 14:31Speaker 1: and he's been dealing with a groin injury all summer
- 14:33Speaker 1: and really hasn't been able to practice, which is kind
- 14:36Speaker 1: of troublesome when many of us are hoping that he's
- 14:39Speaker 1: going to be NHL ready this season. What are your
- 14:43Speaker 1: thoughts here on jet Lachenko, his health and what our
- 14:45Speaker 1: expectation should actually be with him as we head into
- 14:49Speaker 1: this season.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Yeah, Like, if he was healthy, I think the expectation
- 14:53Speaker 3: would be a make the NHL and then we'll go
- 14:56Speaker 3: from there. Like remember when Shakaturi made the team and
- 14:58Speaker 3: kind of like in a bottom stick role, you're able
- 15:01Speaker 3: to show see some of the offense a little bit,
- 15:03Speaker 3: but this is your role figure out. That's like use
- 15:06Speaker 3: your strong detail work that you're able to do in
- 15:08Speaker 3: juniors and why you were drafted and everything like that,
- 15:11Speaker 3: and then we can see how the offense grows from there.
- 15:15Speaker 3: That was going to be the expectation for me if
- 15:17Speaker 3: he was healthy, but now this growing injury and then
- 15:19Speaker 3: kind of nagging throughout the whole summer especially, and how
- 15:22Speaker 3: has he been able to train, Has has his off
- 15:24Speaker 3: season training been affected, and how long has he been
- 15:28Speaker 3: able to get on the ice for a decent amount
- 15:30Speaker 3: And he's expected to be healthy at training camp at least,
- 15:33Speaker 3: like he was held out of rookie camp the first
- 15:36Speaker 3: rookie game, well the first rookie practice he wasn't on
- 15:39Speaker 3: the ice and it was kind of a surprise. Yeah,
- 15:41Speaker 3: and then it'll just announced that for precautionary reasons, he'll
- 15:45Speaker 3: be out of rookie camp. They expect him to be
- 15:46Speaker 3: back on the ice at training camp this week, so
- 15:50Speaker 3: we'll see how that goes. If he's healthy, if what
- 15:53Speaker 3: he says about his health, what the Flowers say about
- 15:55Speaker 3: his health and everything like that going to the season.
- 15:57Speaker 3: But it can't be a good thing if if it's
- 16:00Speaker 3: been nagging the entire summer for Yeah, and I think
- 16:04Speaker 3: going with that context, the expectation has been lowered slightly.
- 16:09Speaker 3: I wouldn't say it's lowered too. He should probably go
- 16:12Speaker 3: back to the OHL. I think maybe it'd be.
- 16:15Speaker 1: That's what I was wondering, to be honest, I was
- 16:17Speaker 1: wondering if that's if that's the decision that's going to
- 16:19Speaker 1: need to be made.
- 16:21Speaker 3: Yeah, Like it's it's hard because you could always maybe
- 16:25Speaker 3: even do a conditioning loan down to the HL and
- 16:28Speaker 3: and see how that goes. If his injury goes into
- 16:30Speaker 3: the season much longer, or if he's if we find
- 16:33Speaker 3: out he's healthy this week and totally fine and we
- 16:36Speaker 3: don't see an issue on the ice, then then it'll
- 16:40Speaker 3: probably go away that concern. So ultimately, I think it's
- 16:45Speaker 3: just another storyline, another another thing to keep an eye
- 16:50Speaker 3: on at Flyers training camp. But it will be certainly
- 16:55Speaker 3: something that could kind of dwindle down in the coming weeks.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Well, look as we are, you know, heading into this
- 17:02Speaker 1: preseason with this Flyer's regular season, it seems like it's
- 17:05Speaker 1: going to be right here, right around the corner. There's
- 17:07Speaker 1: a lot of storylines to follow with this team, and
- 17:11Speaker 1: you know a lot of interesting storylines, whether it's from
- 17:14Speaker 1: you know, from the offensive perspective with talent on this team,
- 17:18Speaker 1: whether it's a defensive talent as well, and just how
- 17:22Speaker 1: this young core is going to end up growing and
- 17:25Speaker 1: growing together, how the culture is going to continue to
- 17:28Speaker 1: manifest itself in Philly. So, Thomas, I'm wondering, like, what's
- 17:32Speaker 1: the biggest thing that you're going to be looking at
- 17:34Speaker 1: during this upcoming Flyers preseason that'll help propel, you know.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Things into the regular season. What are your thoughts here?
- 17:42Speaker 3: Well, there's been a lot of changes of course to
- 17:44Speaker 3: this team and then off ice and on ice, So
- 17:47Speaker 3: I think the biggest thing I'll be looking up for
- 17:49Speaker 3: is Rick Talkers tendencies to yeah, either a coach in
- 17:53Speaker 3: how he runs his practices, but then also how he
- 17:56Speaker 3: deals with his lines. Because as we kind of got
- 17:59Speaker 3: to know John to Gorilla, we saw, Okay, he's not
- 18:01Speaker 3: afraid to like give Nova Kates a big, a big
- 18:04Speaker 3: role and see like those defensive forwards get him playing
- 18:07Speaker 3: top six minutes and in certain situations, and it's going
- 18:10Speaker 3: to be really interesting to see if Talkeett thinks the
- 18:13Speaker 3: same way, or if he's willing to just like here,
- 18:16Speaker 3: throw a young player up with Connectni and Couturier or
- 18:20Speaker 3: something that like give Alex bump immediately, just like see
- 18:22Speaker 3: how he goes and then we'll see from there. Because
- 18:26Speaker 3: I remember his time in Vancouver. A player that he
- 18:29Speaker 3: started out not really playing a whole lot was Connor Garland,
- 18:32Speaker 3: a small diminum winger, and then as he saw more
- 18:35Speaker 3: and more of him, I was working hard.
- 18:37Speaker 4: He works his way up.
- 18:38Speaker 3: So it'll be interesting to see how he does right
- 18:40Speaker 3: away with this impression of the roster and how it
- 18:43Speaker 3: kind of grows from there and even grows in training camp,
- 18:45Speaker 3: because after a couple of practice, I'm sure he could see,
- 18:48Speaker 3: oh this guy, like, this guy works my style, and
- 18:51Speaker 3: now like I'll give him an opportunity.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Yeah, and he's a player's coach, I mean.
- 18:55Speaker 1: And you know, that's an ongoing theme and sometimes that
- 18:59Speaker 1: phrase tends to get a little overused I think at
- 19:02Speaker 1: times in the sports world. But a different type of
- 19:05Speaker 1: coach that we are that we've been used to seeing
- 19:08Speaker 1: especially when it comes to John Tortorella and Rick Tock
- 19:11Speaker 1: and I think we're gonna be seeing some night and
- 19:13Speaker 1: day type of leadership when it comes from the coaching position,
- 19:18Speaker 1: for sure. So all right, buddy, to close us out here,
- 19:22Speaker 1: we'd love always talking about under the radar storylines here
- 19:25Speaker 1: at the PST podcast show, whether it's with the Flyers, Phillies, Eagles,
- 19:29Speaker 1: Sixers Union, whoever. I'm wondering, what's one of the biggest
- 19:33Speaker 1: under the radar storylines that we should be keeping our
- 19:35Speaker 1: eyes on here during the preseason. What are your thoughts here.
- 19:40Speaker 3: I don't know if it's under the radar, but it's
- 19:41Speaker 3: something that we haven't mentioned it of course, Like it's
- 19:43Speaker 3: kind of the elephant in the room with all this
- 19:45Speaker 3: is Trevor's egress, Like it's ultimately like it's someone that
- 19:50Speaker 3: could really change the outcome of this team, and like
- 19:53Speaker 3: it could either be going from he's a good middle
- 19:57Speaker 3: six winger and like you could always use those, but
- 19:59Speaker 3: we have a lot of those. So how is he
- 20:01Speaker 3: gonna fit on the Flyer's future and he's getting older,
- 20:03Speaker 3: he needs a new contract?
- 20:04Speaker 4: Kind of that in the back of.
- 20:05Speaker 3: Your head, yep, or you could be Oh, he's like
- 20:08Speaker 3: an answer for first line center that we've been looking
- 20:10Speaker 3: for for the last decade. Like it's variable of Like, yeah,
- 20:14Speaker 3: it's just variable of like you're kind of these outcomes
- 20:19Speaker 3: that I'm not going to say it's going to happen
- 20:21Speaker 3: all in training camp, but it'd be like, oh, like
- 20:24Speaker 3: talk it trust him to be a center and that's
- 20:26Speaker 3: a big enough deal going into the season that could
- 20:31Speaker 3: really change like the future of this entire organization.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's gonna be interesting to watch for sure, folks.
