- 0:00Speaker 1: Uh help wise everyone was in today, so I know
- 0:02Speaker 1: you guys always saw that up top. So you know,
- 0:06Speaker 1: think you love, really like having the fifteen player roster.
- 0:09Speaker 1: I think it's uh just gonna give us an ability
- 0:12Speaker 1: to you know, practice to the max, but then keep
- 0:15Speaker 1: the team fresh. So hopefully we could uh you know,
- 0:19Speaker 1: hopefully that that'll be a big advantage, especially if in
- 0:22Speaker 1: the way that we practice. But it was good to
- 0:24Speaker 1: get that first one under the belt. And you know,
- 0:29Speaker 1: for the players, uh, it's got like a hundred over
- 0:32Speaker 1: one hundred more of those at that intensity level. So
- 0:35Speaker 1: I just told them that, so they got that to
- 0:37Speaker 1: look forward to him say, does few does it feel
- 0:39Speaker 1: like it's it's number one? Or like is it just
- 0:42Speaker 1: a continuation of what you've been doing? Not for us?
- 0:44Speaker 1: I mean and just uh, I think the you know,
- 0:47Speaker 1: the best programs, Uh, I think the best programs in
- 0:51Speaker 1: the country are the practicing all summer. You know, obviously
- 0:55Speaker 1: there's a different level of intensity, there's more of a
- 0:59Speaker 1: defensive folk, the practice is longer, so uh, you know,
- 1:05Speaker 1: I think you just you have a better opportunity to
- 1:09Speaker 1: uh to develop habits and then instill a toughness in
- 1:12Speaker 1: the team because you've got to be able to take
- 1:14Speaker 1: what you're doing for an hour or an hour and
- 1:17Speaker 1: ten and they'll stretch that out to two hours and
- 1:19Speaker 1: ten minutes, or they can end up being like two
- 1:21Speaker 1: fifteen today. So but the best, you know, you can't
- 1:25Speaker 1: accomplish anything in our sport, you know, unless you're grinding
- 1:31Speaker 1: throughout the summer, throughout the preseason. You know, if you
- 1:36Speaker 1: want to have a chance to win anything in the
- 1:38Speaker 1: world that we're in now, what keeps one year from
- 1:41Speaker 1: leading into the next?
- 1:42Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:43Speaker 1: Where do you give yourself those checks and balances to reset.
- 1:47Speaker 3: Or de group where you need to.
- 1:49Speaker 1: I just think this off season we just had a
- 1:51Speaker 1: lot more time just because we were didn't have as
- 1:57Speaker 1: many responsibilities like we've had the last two off seasons.
- 2:01Speaker 1: So I think from a coaching standpoint, it just gives
- 2:05Speaker 1: you more time to focus on your craft, I think,
- 2:10Speaker 1: and then I think, uh, I think it. I think
- 2:14Speaker 1: in terms of the group, it changes your pursuit, you know,
- 2:16Speaker 1: I think, you know, our pursuit of of being championship
- 2:23Speaker 1: caliber or our pursuit with absolutely everything we have, is
- 2:28Speaker 1: it a different level of urgency? You know, coming off
- 2:31Speaker 1: of last season, you.
- 2:33Speaker 4: Talked about your defense and not playing well last year
- 2:36Speaker 4: as a team, ripped all this offseason and now, but
- 2:40Speaker 4: is it at this point in the better spot than
- 2:43Speaker 4: it was last year at this.
- 2:45Speaker 1: At this particular, Yeah, I think it's it's it's better.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I think, you know, I think there we've got better
- 2:55Speaker 1: individual defensive players. You know, we we really, I mean,
- 3:00Speaker 1: we struggled mightily on the perimeter last year. I mean,
- 3:03Speaker 1: you know, literally at all three spots on the perimeter,
- 3:07Speaker 1: with the exception of a healthy Hassan, we didn't get
- 3:12Speaker 1: what we needed from anyone defensively on the perimeter. And
- 3:15Speaker 1: that's you know, that's including you know, guys that were
- 3:18Speaker 1: really productive on offense. So you know, I think that
- 3:25Speaker 1: we've got a lot of work to do at that
- 3:27Speaker 1: end of the court. But that's uh, you know, you're
- 3:29Speaker 1: not playing You're not playing through mistakes on defense this
- 3:32Speaker 1: year the way you were able to last year. How
- 3:36Speaker 1: about it?
- 3:37Speaker 5: As far as riom protection, you don't have a Donovan,
- 3:39Speaker 5: you're even the Sampson you think terraces and I know
- 3:42Speaker 5: Eric tends to be a little more of a perimiter guy.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Do you want him to be.
- 3:45Speaker 5: A little improve upon that?
- 3:47Speaker 1: He a little more of a protectively. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 3:49Speaker 1: I mean it's uh, you know, I think guarding the
- 3:51Speaker 1: ball better, I think, I don't know. I think we
- 3:54Speaker 1: were number one the country last year in block shots,
- 3:56Speaker 1: but but the ball was at the front rim a lot,
- 4:01Speaker 1: you know, because you know, we were not good defending
- 4:06Speaker 1: on the perimeter, so you know, and you know you're
- 4:10Speaker 1: gonna get driven some. But our problem last year was
- 4:13Speaker 1: like straight line drives. There's no help for straight line drives,
- 4:17Speaker 1: you know, like you know, being able to force somebody
- 4:20Speaker 1: off their move a little bit laterally help can help
- 4:23Speaker 1: you there. Rim protectors can get there then consistently. But yeah,
- 4:30Speaker 1: I think we just got a better chance, you know,
- 4:32Speaker 1: a point of attack defense starting at you know, starting
- 4:35Speaker 1: at point guard with Silas, who's taller, a taller point guard.
- 4:40Speaker 1: You know, Malachi's got the ability to pressure the ball,
- 4:43Speaker 1: and you know, and then obviously the guys that are returning.
- 4:46Speaker 1: You know, I think Graylan's got a chance to be
- 4:48Speaker 1: a good defensive player because he you know, is a
- 4:50Speaker 1: serious guy, and he's physically I think he's strong enough.
- 4:53Speaker 1: And then obviously Solo and Jalen and Jaden, you know,
- 4:57Speaker 1: these guys, you know, they got to play good good
- 5:00Speaker 1: to very good to great defense.
- 5:01Speaker 5: And how's mawick I looked coming up?
- 5:03Speaker 1: You know, he wasself for a while. Yeah, we're excited
- 5:06Speaker 1: about Malachi. I think he's got the He's got some
- 5:10Speaker 1: of what Hassan brought to uh to the twenty fourteen
- 5:14Speaker 1: some of that. I think, Uh, you know, I think
- 5:18Speaker 1: he's a he's ah, he's an attacking player. He's a
- 5:20Speaker 1: guy that makes plays. I think the fans will love
- 5:23Speaker 1: and fans will love him. I think he's like a
- 5:25Speaker 1: a real critical key piece to the team. He's gonna
- 5:28Speaker 1: have a huge role.
- 5:29Speaker 3: You have a lot of the veterans like Soul and
- 5:31Speaker 3: Alex help you through the grind of this, this build.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Up to the sixth How have they how they helped you?
- 5:35Speaker 1: Really in Alex at this point, it's like and he's
- 5:42Speaker 1: literally like another coach, you know what I mean. Like
- 5:44Speaker 1: it's like it's it's my relationship with him is like
- 5:48Speaker 1: kind of strange. You know, we've been around each other
- 5:53Speaker 1: so much. It's like, uh, I I got on him
- 5:56Speaker 1: a little bit in the huddle and then I almost
- 5:58Speaker 1: felt like apologizing after. But you know, it's just been
- 6:02Speaker 1: through so much together, you know, the the incredible highs
- 6:05Speaker 1: and then disappointing last year, and then you go through
- 6:09Speaker 1: these decision making processes that he's had to deal with,
- 6:13Speaker 1: and you just bonded so closely through everything together. So, uh,
- 6:19Speaker 1: I just cherished this last year with Alex in particular.
- 6:23Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean, like that that trio of guys,
- 6:26Speaker 1: their Solo Alex Tarris, I mean, he's got he's gotta
- 6:31Speaker 1: be leading men. They've got to be like the you know,
- 6:34Speaker 1: like the the the Hawk, Andre Adama, you know big
- 6:39Speaker 1: three that we had that were just they they were productive,
- 6:43Speaker 1: they led, they they controlled the locker room. You know,
- 6:47Speaker 1: I think we do have a great locker room again
- 6:50Speaker 1: this year. So, yeah, you're a Sole in particular did
- 6:55Speaker 1: a great job as a freshman. Yeah, it's part of
- 6:57Speaker 1: like their second lay against reverse last year, much different moment.
- 7:02Speaker 1: What do you ex may you look back on that?
- 7:04Speaker 1: Where do you expect him? Yeah, I mean Solos, I
- 7:07Speaker 1: mean Solo established himself as uh, you know, one of
- 7:11Speaker 1: the best shooters in the country coming into the year.
- 7:13Speaker 1: You can make an argument that he's the best return
- 7:15Speaker 1: and shooter. You know, obviously the volume and the efficiency,
- 7:21Speaker 1: it's uh, you know, the the the room for him
- 7:24Speaker 1: where he's gotta grow is obviously, you know when he
- 7:28Speaker 1: gets in the paint, you know, his overall guard play
- 7:30Speaker 1: as a passer, you know, his his his rim finishing,
- 7:33Speaker 1: and then obviously the defensive one. I mean for a
- 7:36Speaker 1: for your team to uh, he'll be championship caliber. You know,
- 7:41Speaker 1: he's he's obviously got to make a big junk defensive
- 7:44Speaker 1: uh in particular, you know, he but I don't you know,
- 7:49Speaker 1: he had an awesome sophomore year. I don't think he's
- 7:52Speaker 1: got to change a whole lot offensively to his p approach.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Besides those things I talked about, you know, maybe a
- 7:58Speaker 1: slicker passer and better rim finisher. And then there's he's
- 8:02Speaker 1: got to commit defensively, you know, like our premier defense
- 8:05Speaker 1: last year.
- 8:07Speaker 5: He's athletical enough.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Guys, well, I think that he like you know, and
- 8:11Speaker 1: it's like he's got such a superpower with the shooting.
- 8:14Speaker 1: But if you're like, Solo's evolution has like been one
- 8:17Speaker 1: of the more remarkable things because he kind of came
- 8:19Speaker 1: in here as like an Andre Jackson type of athlete,
- 8:22Speaker 1: and then now he's evolved into like a Jordan Hawkin,
- 8:25Speaker 1: this type of shooter but he still has that athletic
- 8:28Speaker 1: ability that we want to see him, you know, cutting
- 8:31Speaker 1: for lobs, getting on the offensive glass. We want him
- 8:33Speaker 1: hanging on a rim more. You have a lot of
- 8:36Speaker 1: internationals coming in.
- 8:38Speaker 3: Is that a big part part of recruiting now you
- 8:40Speaker 3: kind of have to look beyond just the this region.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Yeah. I think it's you know, you know, maybe maybe
- 8:51Speaker 1: the thing for us is, you know, we're looking for,
- 8:53Speaker 1: you know, players that want to want to be coached.
- 8:56Speaker 1: I think, you know, an advantage with maybe somebody into
- 9:00Speaker 1: national kids is like they're getting coached harder overseas when
- 9:04Speaker 1: they're younger. The coaches overseas aren't afraid that their kids
- 9:08Speaker 1: gonna change high schools or AAU teams or what have you.
- 9:12Speaker 1: So I just think that there's a culture, you know,
- 9:15Speaker 1: over there where they could acclimate to hard practices and
- 9:22Speaker 1: demanding coaches and the type of structure we put around them.
- 9:26Speaker 1: So that's appealing, you know. And then obviously I would
- 9:33Speaker 1: say that that's the that's the most appealing. I don't
- 9:36Speaker 1: know if it was a conscious effort. I think today's
- 9:39Speaker 1: game now you're just you're, you know, you've got an
- 9:42Speaker 1: nil budget and you're you're looking for value, and you're
- 9:47Speaker 1: looking for players with certain profiles, and you know, maybe
- 9:53Speaker 1: I'll probably get you. That's I'm not gonna say maybe
- 9:56Speaker 1: an American player priced himself out or you know what
- 9:58Speaker 1: I mean. I don't you know, I don't know if
- 10:00Speaker 1: we necessarily went in looking for international players so much
- 10:04Speaker 1: as you know, people that are gonna fit to to
- 10:07Speaker 1: how we do things. You mentioned getting back to the
- 10:09Speaker 1: championship caliber.
- 10:10Speaker 3: How much of the way last season energy tournament, I
- 10:13Speaker 3: mean you or the group used as few.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Of getting back to that level. Yeah, you know, I mean, well,
- 10:19Speaker 1: let's what once you uh, you know, get to the
- 10:22Speaker 1: mountaintop and experience that, you know, any season that doesn't
- 10:27Speaker 1: end like that, you know, for the rest of your career,
- 10:30Speaker 1: even though it's you know, probably not realistic to do
- 10:33Speaker 1: it every single year, but you know, in a year
- 10:36Speaker 1: it doesn't end like that. You know, you got a
- 10:39Speaker 1: kind of bitter taste in the off season, and uh
- 10:43Speaker 1: you know, so yeah, I mean, I don't know, you
- 10:46Speaker 1: know that we're necessarily gonna like coach harder or or
- 10:50Speaker 1: or or or or or practice harder. I just think
- 10:52Speaker 1: that last year's team there was just this uh, this
- 10:56Speaker 1: feeling that the group had that just just because everyone
- 10:59Speaker 1: inside and don to come play for us at Yukon
- 11:01Speaker 1: that dos some type of magic dust or something that
- 11:04Speaker 1: we're going to sprinkle in their power aid or is
- 11:06Speaker 1: that what we use your power in we're power aid school.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Sure a little, we're talking in our Duncan in the
- 11:16Speaker 1: players Duncan donuts or coffee powered bulletproof. Uh yeah. So
- 11:25Speaker 1: I just think the last year's team, uh, it was
- 11:28Speaker 1: like maybe we thought we could do it with with
- 11:33Speaker 1: with with with absolutely any anyone. And I think what
- 11:36Speaker 1: made those teams special was, you know, just the commitments,
- 11:41Speaker 1: the efforts, the efforts on defense, how hard we played.
- 11:44Speaker 1: And you know, I think that this this group is uh,
- 11:49Speaker 1: you know, our pursuit is going to be much different.
- 11:51Speaker 1: You know, our pursuit of this championship and getting back
- 11:54Speaker 1: on top is going to be different.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Was there a pleasant surprise through preseason off season for
- 12:01Speaker 2: you somebody stand out or something about the team's really
- 12:04Speaker 2: stand out?
- 12:07Speaker 1: I would say just you know, maybe what Alex looks like.
- 12:11Speaker 1: I mean, Alex has put on ten pounds of muscle.
- 12:13Speaker 1: He's you know, he's like two, you know, he's like
- 12:15Speaker 1: two thirties plus. It just it just looks real sharp
- 12:20Speaker 1: and looks like a grown up. And I just think
- 12:23Speaker 1: you get a lot of you get a lot of
- 12:25Speaker 1: confidence when you start your team with what solos looked
- 12:28Speaker 1: like all summer. Tarriss look like all summer. Alex Has
- 12:31Speaker 1: looked like all summer. And again I think, and I
- 12:33Speaker 1: said this, with this team, it's like, yeah, it's like
- 12:36Speaker 1: how we're pursuing getting back to where we want to
- 12:39Speaker 1: be with everything that we have, you know, because when
- 12:42Speaker 1: you get there, it's absolutely worth everything that you gave
- 12:46Speaker 1: and you're on top. But this is a group that's
- 12:48Speaker 1: gonna have. You got to earn your role. I said
- 12:51Speaker 1: it last year, but it's like now these guys that
- 12:53Speaker 1: maybe you know that with sophomores and weren't ready are
- 12:57Speaker 1: now juniors. And if you really it's a numbers game,
- 13:00Speaker 1: I think it's like it's hard to play ten players,
- 13:02Speaker 1: you know, and I think that there's like, legitimately, you know,
- 13:06Speaker 1: probably twelve that I think they got a chance to play.
- 13:10Speaker 1: And so like you got to earn, you're gonna have
- 13:15Speaker 1: to earn your role. I think one of the mistakes
- 13:17Speaker 1: I made early last year was I had a vision
- 13:20Speaker 1: of how I wanted the team to look, and I
- 13:24Speaker 1: probably should have sent a different team out there to
- 13:28Speaker 1: start the year. I think that the group that I'm
- 13:32Speaker 1: gonna send out there to start the year is gonna
- 13:33Speaker 1: be a group that earns it three weeks from yesterday,
- 13:37Speaker 1: three weeks from yesterday, Like you know, these guys are
- 13:41Speaker 1: gonna either be announced as a starter. You're gonna be
- 13:43Speaker 1: the sixth man, You're gonna be the fourth guy in
- 13:47Speaker 1: that's gonna get limited minutes, or you're gonna get deep
- 13:49Speaker 1: spaced and you're gonna you're gonna play lately and you're
- 13:53Speaker 1: gonna earn wherever you are in that whole you know,
- 13:58Speaker 1: that whole role out located. So and what the the.
- 14:02Speaker 3: Fifteen man lost that we're going to that you kind
- 14:05Speaker 3: of have that layer of developmental players, yeah, m And
- 14:08Speaker 3: then of course you have young guys you've reteamed villains.
- 14:12Speaker 3: If you bringing guys coming in from the over seas.
- 14:15Speaker 3: Is that in long with that vision that you expressed
- 14:18Speaker 3: about a year ago that you wanted to be known
- 14:20Speaker 3: as one of the best basketball operations in the world.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Yeah, Is that kind of.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Coming together the way you envisioned or maybe the most
- 14:28Speaker 3: changes or change that vision a little.
- 14:30Speaker 1: But is that do you see all those things come
- 14:32Speaker 1: from the way Yeah, I think yeah, I mean we
- 14:36Speaker 1: we obviously have the evidence, you know, when we're championship success,
- 14:41Speaker 1: we get the evidence with the with the people that
- 14:43Speaker 1: we're producing that are not just in the NBA. When
- 14:45Speaker 1: you look across the board and you know, just the
- 14:48Speaker 1: guys in the last several teams we've had, they're all
- 14:50Speaker 1: flourishing overseas or or in the NBA or in some
- 14:56Speaker 1: cases the G League. So I think the the f
- 15:00Speaker 1: team player thing is that it's it's y know, you're
- 15:02Speaker 1: experimenting with with with with you know, the trade off
- 15:05Speaker 1: air is like you know, you you've got a chance
- 15:08Speaker 1: to develop some players, you got a chance to practice harder,
- 15:11Speaker 1: but keep maybe some of your veterans fresher, but let
- 15:14Speaker 1: the young players get the reps that they need, like
- 15:17Speaker 1: as you get later in the season, cause that becomes
- 15:20Speaker 1: a problem as a coach. You'll have like Alex late
- 15:22Speaker 1: in the year that doesn't need reps. But then last
- 15:25Speaker 1: year it's you know, Ja, you know, Jaden Ross needed
- 15:27Speaker 1: reps as a sophomore. So you'd be able to be
- 15:30Speaker 1: more like a la Carte would practice that way. I
- 15:33Speaker 1: guess the only thing we'll find out is if having
- 15:35Speaker 1: fifteen people is too many pains in the ask that
- 15:38Speaker 1: deal what during the year? I guess, you know, like,
- 15:41Speaker 1: do I really want to deal with fifteen human beings?
- 15:43Speaker 1: You know, plus Tom Luke and Kamani? I mean, so
- 15:49Speaker 1: what what is?
- 15:50Speaker 3: What is the guy who's running a pro team Slovaki
- 15:54Speaker 3: or you know, Turkey.
- 15:56Speaker 1: What do you think he's.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Saying about a guy? Hey, you have a chance to
- 15:59Speaker 3: need God from U.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Come? What do you think.
- 16:01Speaker 3: He he's taking minute with U? Can't bring you right?
- 16:06Speaker 1: Yeah? I mean yukon't. I think you know, whether you're
- 16:10Speaker 1: NBA or or or an international team, I think, uh,
- 16:13Speaker 1: you know somebody that's been in a demanding program. You
- 16:17Speaker 1: know that somebody that is going to be able to
- 16:21Speaker 1: function really well and in structure, you know, in a
- 16:25Speaker 1: system that prioritizes like discipline and being about the right things,
- 16:30Speaker 1: being competitive, working hard, being being being coachable, and you
- 16:35Speaker 1: know coaches can coach our players hard when they leave here. Well,
- 16:38Speaker 1: the biggest complaint I get from players, especially in the NBA,
- 16:41Speaker 1: it's like they wish their teams coach them harder. They
- 16:44Speaker 1: wish their coaches practiced them harder. They wish the coaches,
- 16:48Speaker 1: you know. So I think that you know, you know,
- 16:51Speaker 1: somebody that's knows how to be a good teammate, you know,
- 16:56Speaker 1: and it's about winning, you know. And if there's you know,
- 16:59Speaker 1: has played for the front Jersey, I know.
- 17:01Speaker 3: Fives came through here during we were during summer. Were
- 17:03Speaker 3: some other coaches guns or if you could share, you
- 17:06Speaker 3: have kind of come through and watched to see.
- 17:09Speaker 1: What you do. I mean, uh, I hanging out with
- 17:11Speaker 1: Tips for a couple of days was it was a
- 17:14Speaker 1: highlight for me. I love Tips and he's his mom
- 17:19Speaker 1: is like crazy Yukon fans still like throwing shit at
- 17:22Speaker 1: the TV level fan. I mean, he's a Connecticut, Connecticut guy,
- 17:28Speaker 1: so uh my kindred spirit uh Joe Mizzula with him.
- 17:32Speaker 1: We spent some time with show, you know. I mean,
- 17:39Speaker 1: you know, we've had international people through here. Uh and
- 17:43Speaker 1: now I think this time of year you start to
- 17:44Speaker 1: get more of the NBA people started to come in here.
- 17:47Speaker 1: But you know, I think we we uh we get
- 17:49Speaker 1: high school coaches in here, we get Division two, Division
- 17:52Speaker 1: three coaches. I think I get the best ideas you know,
- 17:56Speaker 1: for me as a coach, uh from like Europe Division two,
- 18:02Speaker 1: Division three mentioned the Big three, the twenty three team.
- 18:08Speaker 4: Sort of looking how similar to rosters you kind of looked.
- 18:11Speaker 1: How intentionable was that in creating the rosters. I think
- 18:15Speaker 1: you're just looking at it from a standpoint of like, uh,
- 18:19Speaker 1: you know, like who are your core players? You know
- 18:21Speaker 1: and w with Tarifs. You know, there's obviously similarities there
- 18:25Speaker 1: with you know, with the dom uh Doma from a
- 18:27Speaker 1: physical standpoint at how we utilized him. You know, you
- 18:33Speaker 1: you you uh, you know you obviously got the Jordan's
- 18:36Speaker 1: solo comp you know, Alex is now you know, potentially
- 18:40Speaker 1: three years better uh than that version of himself. I think,
- 18:45Speaker 1: you know, our point guard situation, you know, has this
- 18:50Speaker 1: I think feeling more confident or feeling he was just
- 18:53Speaker 1: very confident. There's some depth there, There's some quality there.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Might you know Braylan's uh a flamethrower, you know, and
- 19:02Speaker 1: then you just got real depth just like that. There's
- 19:05Speaker 1: you know, these guys that are like the tenth man,
- 19:07Speaker 1: the guy that is likely to get like the ninth
- 19:10Speaker 1: and tenth guys that are likely to probably get squeezed
- 19:13Speaker 1: here or are like really good players, you know, like
- 19:18Speaker 1: really really good players that would help other high majors
- 19:22Speaker 1: this year. So I think the strength of his team
- 19:25Speaker 1: is the depth. Like that team, whereas like off the
- 19:28Speaker 1: bench was Nahim, it was Joey, it was Donovan, it
- 19:32Speaker 1: was Hassan. You know, we went nine deep, and that's
- 19:35Speaker 1: what made that group special. You're playing exhibitions that are
- 19:39Speaker 1: live against Division one upon this if you what are
- 19:42Speaker 1: the best pluses and may a system doing that? I
- 19:45Speaker 1: mean the plus the pluses are that I think we're
- 19:48Speaker 1: like we're playing like really hard exhibitions this year, which
- 19:54Speaker 1: I think is gonna have us more ready than we
- 19:56Speaker 1: were last year. For the beginning of the year, we
- 19:58Speaker 1: were not ready for Maui, and it showed it our
- 20:02Speaker 1: performance there. And I think part of that was because
- 20:05Speaker 1: we know we didn't probably schedule hard enough those types
- 20:10Speaker 1: of games which would have had us more ready for
- 20:12Speaker 1: what we saw when we shared the floor with Memphis.
- 20:15Speaker 1: So we you know, we obviously learned from that. The
- 20:18Speaker 1: negative part of it is like you're really three weeks
- 20:21Speaker 1: from yesterday. You know, it's like it's gonna be messy,
- 20:26Speaker 1: you know, like we're not gonna be who we're gonna
- 20:28Speaker 1: be by the time you know, it really starts. You know,
- 20:31Speaker 1: I look back to the twenty four year where we
- 20:34Speaker 1: scrimmaged it at Virginia and uh, you know, we were
- 20:39Speaker 1: down three to that that Virginia team that I don't
- 20:43Speaker 1: I don't think they made the tournament or if they
- 20:45Speaker 1: did make the tournament day, well, they didn't make it.
- 20:48Speaker 1: They didn't make it. And Cam Spencer hit a three
- 20:52Speaker 1: so that we didn't lose that one outright in that
- 20:57Speaker 1: closed scrimmage on the road. So and then and then
- 21:00Speaker 1: obviously we had a historic so you know, like it's
- 21:03Speaker 1: just you know, so it it could be a little
- 21:05Speaker 1: bit of a shit shot, but I think just playing
- 21:08Speaker 1: quality opponents, it tells you where you gotta get better
- 21:12Speaker 1: and where you get in front of two big atmospheres,
- 21:14Speaker 1: which is gonna help, I think with the nerves come
- 21:16Speaker 1: opening night.
- 21:17Speaker 5: Well, what at Rick Patino saying how the point dark
- 21:22Speaker 5: position doesn't really exist anymore. I'm maybe it sounds a
- 21:25Speaker 5: little bit of like an exaggeration, but do you kind
- 21:26Speaker 5: of understand maybe what he's saying, and with that in mind,
- 21:30Speaker 5: is that change how the roles of Silas and Malcha
- 21:33Speaker 5: might be this year a little bit, and.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Well, I mean I think, yeah, I mean, you have
- 21:39Speaker 1: a primary handler. I think we all have a primary
- 21:42Speaker 1: you know we uh you know, Tristan was was our
- 21:45Speaker 1: primary handler. You know, he had the ball you know,
- 21:48Speaker 1: probably fifty percent of the time for how we play offensively,
- 21:53Speaker 1: you know, and then Cam probably had it twenty percent
- 21:55Speaker 1: of the time. And by the end of the year,
- 21:57Speaker 1: Steph had it, you know, twenty set at a time,
- 22:00Speaker 1: and maybe Ak had it you know another file. Don't
- 22:04Speaker 1: even though where we're at with the math right now,
- 22:06Speaker 1: I'm lost, But you know, I mean it's you're you're
- 22:09Speaker 1: looking for versatile pieces. I mean you're looking for size
- 22:12Speaker 1: at guard and on the perimeter and multiple handlers because
- 22:17Speaker 1: for us, the way we play offense, you know, is interchangeable.
- 22:21Speaker 1: You've got to be able to play on off ball,
- 22:23Speaker 1: you know. So for us, yeah, I mean, if you
- 22:24Speaker 1: look at what we're doing in recruiting, yeah, we are
- 22:27Speaker 1: looking for bigger guards. I think for the positions that
- 22:31Speaker 1: we put our guards in offensively in particular, forget about
- 22:34Speaker 1: what they do on the backboard at the defensive end,
- 22:36Speaker 1: in terms of the length, you know, I think the
- 22:41Speaker 1: difference between how we were offensively with those teams, with
- 22:43Speaker 1: those big guards, the ability to throw the lobs, the
- 22:46Speaker 1: ability to spray it out through point line, the ability
- 22:49Speaker 1: to finish at the rim or get fouled, you know,
- 22:52Speaker 1: like when they're not six four, sixty five, sixty six,
- 22:58Speaker 1: it becomes more problematic. Yeah, my career, uh you know,
- 23:06Speaker 1: a Hall of fame type of resume. And obviously the
- 23:08Speaker 1: job he's done in multiple places, and you know, just
- 23:14Speaker 1: I think, uh, you know, uh, coach, that'll be missed.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Obviously there's a lot of coaches you know recently you know,
- 23:23Speaker 1: have uh have been retiring. I think, uh, I don't
- 23:27Speaker 1: know if it's the uncertainty where you're still not knowing
- 23:31Speaker 1: if people are going to get a fifty year as
- 23:34Speaker 1: October is about the hit and just some of the
- 23:37Speaker 1: lack of structure and leadership in the game itself. I'm
- 23:41Speaker 1: not sure if that's what you know, what did it?
- 23:43Speaker 1: But you know, Coach was uh, you know, Coach was
- 23:46Speaker 1: somebody that uh yeah, I I admired, you know, I
- 23:51Speaker 1: admired what he's built in his career, and uh, you know,
- 23:55Speaker 1: I wish his son good luck. Coach's kid. So decided
- 24:00Speaker 1: who was so much.
- 24:01Speaker 5: I read somewhere that you were thinking of doing a
- 24:05Speaker 5: similar for this past off season, not in September.
- 24:07Speaker 1: But yeah, I don't think Andrews ready. I mean, seriously,
