- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I, Almost Famous Podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Hey, Almost Famous crew, it's Ben with you. And we
- 0:10Speaker 2: are kicking off our new miniseries, Bachelor Rewind, where we
- 0:15Speaker 2: are going to rewatch and recap a past season. We
- 0:20Speaker 2: had to start with an iconic one. One that we remember.
- 0:25Speaker 2: One that changed us. One that we grew through and
- 0:29Speaker 2: regrew with. one that captivated our hearts because of the
- 0:34Speaker 2: lead and his sincerity, his honesty, his charisma, and his
- 0:40Speaker 2: good looks. We're starting with season four, our very own
- 0:45Speaker 2: Bob Guinea.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:48Speaker 4: Well, the crowd goes wild.
- 0:50Speaker 3: What a nice intro.
- 0:51Speaker 4: Well, I love you and you know that.
- 0:53Speaker 3: I love you too, buddy. And I hope you know that,
- 0:56Speaker 3: but I thank you.
- 0:57Speaker 5: That was very kind of you to say. I, I, uh,
- 1:00Speaker 5: I have not watched my season in a very long time,
- 1:03Speaker 5: if ever.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Yeah. I, you know, I was thinking about that as
- 1:06Speaker 2: I watched the first three episodes. So this is going
- 1:09Speaker 2: to be kind of an overview recap, digging in to
- 1:12Speaker 2: what we can talk about now, which is everything.
- 1:15Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Um, uh, the first three episodes of your season. And
- 1:19Speaker 2: I was thinking, I don't think I've ever watched my season.
- 1:22Speaker 2: And honestly, I don't know if I ever will.
- 1:24Speaker 5: Oh, You will have to if we're recapping. I will
- 1:28Speaker 5: be hosting the recap of your recap.
- 1:30Speaker 4: Oh, my goodness.
- 1:31Speaker 2: We are watching this free on Tubi. Yes.
- 1:35Speaker 4: What an incredible platform.
- 1:36Speaker 2: It was very fun and easy for me to dive in,
- 1:38Speaker 2: to pull up the series. There's a lot of past
- 1:41Speaker 2: series on there. Bob, I'm going to kind of start
- 1:45Speaker 2: grilling you with a few questions, then we're just going
- 1:47Speaker 2: to hang out and talk through your season, the first
- 1:49Speaker 2: three episodes during this episode. I want to start with,
- 1:55Speaker 2: I know your lovely wife, Canyon.
- 1:57Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:58Speaker 2: She is, I'm watching this season. I'm like, yeah, that's,
- 2:01Speaker 2: it makes sense on why Bob is.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Married to Canyon. She's beautiful. She's strong.
- 2:07Speaker 2: She puts you in your place, but she also has
- 2:09Speaker 2: that like fun, goofy side and loves when you are
- 2:12Speaker 2: fun and goofy and yourself and all that makes for
- 2:17Speaker 2: a really great partner. I also envision Canyon watching this.
- 2:24Speaker 2: And not being like jealous or envious, but more watching
- 2:29Speaker 2: it with like humor and making fun of you a lot.
- 2:33Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:33Speaker 3: Oh yeah. She's, she had a field day.
- 2:35Speaker 5: Well, you know, she, when I first met Canyon's mom,
- 2:40Speaker 5: you know, cause Canyon and I are 12 years, we
- 2:43Speaker 5: have a 12 year age gap. Right. So when I
- 2:45Speaker 5: first met Canyon's mother, her mom was like, you know,
- 2:51Speaker 5: super nice and, you know, funny and stuff. And she
- 2:54Speaker 5: was like, yeah, I, we watched your season. I just
- 2:58Speaker 5: loved you.
- 2:58Speaker 3: And I was like, oh, thanks. Her name's Mary Jane.
- 3:00Speaker 5: I'm like, thank you, Mary Jane. And Jessica's like, I
- 3:03Speaker 5: didn't watch it. Canyon goes, I don't think I saw
- 3:06Speaker 5: that season. And her mom's like, we watched it together.
- 3:08Speaker 5: She's like, no, I don't think I watched that season.
- 3:11Speaker 5: And the comedy of it is Canyon was a senior
- 3:13Speaker 5: in high school when I was on the job. So
- 3:16Speaker 5: I think, you know, I shouldn't say that she, she was,
- 3:20Speaker 5: I don't know. She was somewhere around there. Maybe a
- 3:22Speaker 5: freshman in college.
- 3:23Speaker 3: I'm not sure. Point being Canyon. It didn't make as
- 3:26Speaker 3: big of an impact on Canyon as it did on
- 3:28Speaker 3: her mom. So that's how it started.
- 3:30Speaker 4: Right.
- 3:31Speaker 5: Then we start messing with each other and I start
- 3:32Speaker 5: realizing she may not have watched this religiously as her mom,
- 3:36Speaker 5: but she definitely saw it because there.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Were moments where she'll go, oh, yeah, it wasn't that so-and-so.
- 3:40Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, but I thought you didn't watch it. Oh,
- 3:43Speaker 3: you didn't see that season.
- 3:44Speaker 5: Interesting. Interesting.
- 3:45Speaker 3: But yeah, it was definitely, you know, it's fun to
- 3:47Speaker 3: watch it.
- 3:48Speaker 5: I mean, I watched the three episodes kind of back
- 3:52Speaker 5: to back to back, a little binge watch style, kind
- 3:54Speaker 5: of like Thrones-ish. And at times I felt like it
- 3:58Speaker 5: was set in the same era as the Game of Thrones.
- 4:02Speaker 5: And watching it, you know, not just my sideburns, but
- 4:05Speaker 5: everything else seemed very period piece to a certain degree.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot of baggy clothes, which are kind of
- 4:12Speaker 2: coming back.
- 4:14Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:14Speaker 3: That was fashion forward at the time.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Chris, I think it really is noticeable with Chris because
- 4:20Speaker 2: he's always so put together during recent seasons.
- 4:26Speaker 4: And in this one, I think it.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Probably looked good back then, but you watch and you're like,
- 4:30Speaker 2: he looks kind of like a slob. Like everything's hanging
- 4:32Speaker 2: off of him.
- 4:33Speaker 3: It's like wrinkled.
- 4:35Speaker 4: Yeah. It's not a thing.
- 4:37Speaker 2: But I will say there are a few things that
- 4:40Speaker 2: stood out to me right away. Your sideburns were definitely
- 4:44Speaker 2: one of them because you are such a handsome man
- 4:48Speaker 2: and you look so good during your bachelor season. And
- 4:51Speaker 2: I didn't realize you had lost so much weight going
- 4:53Speaker 2: into that season. But you you look great. Your hair
- 4:57Speaker 2: was looking good.
- 4:58Speaker 4: Still looks good.
- 5:00Speaker 2: But you did have this like weird like your sideburns. Like,
- 5:04Speaker 2: I don't think you can distinguish what those sideburns were. Like,
- 5:07Speaker 2: I have sideburns.
- 5:08Speaker 3: They were chops.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Yeah, but they were like, it almost looked like pubic hair, buddy. Like,
- 5:14Speaker 2: they're like very thin.
- 5:15Speaker 5: Uh-huh.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Yeah. I kept them tight. Like, very tight.
- 5:20Speaker 4: I don't think, wait, whoa, whoa, whoa. I don't think
- 5:22Speaker 4: we can claim you kept those tight.
- 5:24Speaker 3: They were not like pubic hair. I can promise you that.
- 5:27Speaker 3: Or whiskery. They may have looked that way. And, you know,
- 5:30Speaker 3: there's something going on there.
- 5:32Speaker 5: But, uh, I, my hair was long, like much longer
- 5:35Speaker 5: and curlier, but yeah, you know, like it's interesting. I've
- 5:37Speaker 5: often said this, I know you know this, but, um,
- 5:40Speaker 5: you know, I'd always been athletic and, you know, signed
- 5:42Speaker 5: a record deal right out of college and was kind
- 5:44Speaker 5: of like touring all over the place doing my thing.
- 5:46Speaker 5: And maybe that's where that style came from, from the thing. But, um, uh,
- 5:51Speaker 5: the year, two years previous to coming on the bachelor,
- 5:54Speaker 5: I'd blown out my knee and had reconstructive knee surgery.
- 5:58Speaker 5: And so, uh, As I was rehabbing that back, I
- 6:01Speaker 5: ruptured my Achilles on the same leg. And so I
- 6:04Speaker 5: went from a leg cast to a walking boot.
- 6:10Speaker 3: You know, from the Achilles thing.
- 6:12Speaker 5: And it was like, I mean, I basically had two
- 6:14Speaker 5: years of not doing anything. And I think, you know,
- 6:19Speaker 5: and I definitely was the heaviest I'd ever been in
- 6:20Speaker 5: my life. Oddly enough, probably not that much heavier than
- 6:24Speaker 5: when I played in college, when I played football in college,
- 6:26Speaker 5: but the weight had definitely redistributed itself. The number itself
- 6:31Speaker 5: wasn't exactly that much more than when I, you know,
- 6:34Speaker 5: when I was at my best shape in my life,
- 6:36Speaker 5: but it was definitely one of those times where I
- 6:38Speaker 5: was like, you know, I wasn't as fit as I
- 6:42Speaker 5: was used to being.
- 6:43Speaker 3: And that's when I land on TV.
- 6:46Speaker 5: Right.
- 6:46Speaker 3: And it's just like, oh, great.
- 6:47Speaker 5: So actually from the bachelorette, from Trista's season of the
- 6:51Speaker 5: bachelorette to the bachelor, I really had just gotten back
- 6:53Speaker 5: to my normal weight, but it just looked like a
- 6:56Speaker 5: monumental difference because I, was actually like, you know, paying
- 7:01Speaker 5: attention again. Cause I, you watch yourself on TV at
- 7:04Speaker 5: your heaviest and you certainly don't want to have to
- 7:06Speaker 5: have to do that again.
- 7:07Speaker 2: The, uh, we're gonna have a lot of fun with
- 7:11Speaker 2: this breakdown. It's going to be hilarious. I can't wait
- 7:13Speaker 2: to talk with you about it, but there is, um,
- 7:17Speaker 2: there is this whole storyline at the beginning, especially during
- 7:21Speaker 2: your intro package of you being like the big bachelor,
- 7:25Speaker 2: the fat bachelor, you know, And I know, because we
- 7:29Speaker 2: saw it, and I think if you pay attention, you're like, okay,
- 7:31Speaker 2: Bob is a stud. He was a stud in high school.
- 7:34Speaker 2: He's a college athlete. He's good looking. So there's a
- 7:37Speaker 2: side of this that's like, hey, even though you can
- 7:39Speaker 2: gain 30, 40 pounds, you're still good looking enough to
- 7:43Speaker 2: make it very far on The Bachelorette.
- 7:44Speaker 4: Kudos to you.
- 7:46Speaker 2: But also, you are a guy who doesn't take things
- 7:50Speaker 2: super serious, but you are sensitive.
- 7:53Speaker 5: Sure.
- 7:54Speaker 2: I wonder what, like, you played it off. You know,
- 7:57Speaker 2: you were like, is that a fat joke? And then
- 7:58Speaker 2: I'll be like, but I'm wondering, like, did that affect
- 8:02Speaker 2: you internally?
- 8:03Speaker 5: Sure.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Well, you know, I think, first of all, kudos to Trista,
- 8:07Speaker 3: I would say.
- 8:08Speaker 5: Trista, I think Trista kept me around despite Mike Fleiss'
- 8:12Speaker 5: best efforts, if I'm being honest. I don't think, I
- 8:15Speaker 5: think for Fleiss, I was probably comedic relief on The Bachelorette.
- 8:18Speaker 5: I don't think he ever thought I was going to
- 8:20Speaker 5: be around that long. And I know that he did
- 8:23Speaker 5: not want me to be The Bachelor. He was his
- 8:25Speaker 5: hand was forced on that one piece basically by Oprah. Right.
- 8:28Speaker 3: Like Oprah going, I want Bob to be the next bachelor.
- 8:30Speaker 5: And I think that's I think I think they I
- 8:33Speaker 5: think ABC was happy about it.
- 8:34Speaker 3: And I think that some of the producers of the
- 8:36Speaker 3: show were happy about it.
- 8:37Speaker 5: But that's where I think that kind of, you know,
- 8:40Speaker 5: he's not our typical bachelor. It's like, what is our
- 8:42Speaker 5: typical bachelor? Michelle season one. Right. Really, at that point,
- 8:47Speaker 5: you've only got season two and three. So you got
- 8:49Speaker 5: Aaron Bergey and you got Andrew Firestone. Other than that,
- 8:53Speaker 5: what's typical? I mean, Andrew Firestone's atypical, right? He's a,
- 8:57Speaker 5: you know, I mean, how amazing, you know, to have
- 9:00Speaker 5: the Firestone name and all that associated.
- 9:02Speaker 3: With the show. Like, I think that's atypical.
- 9:05Speaker 5: I mean, I don't know what, I don't know what
- 9:06Speaker 5: the typical bachelor was, but I think that was more
- 9:08Speaker 5: Fleiss's narrative than anything was, you know, he, I don't
- 9:11Speaker 5: think he was super happy about it, but at the
- 9:14Speaker 5: end of the day, it was.
- 9:15Speaker 3: You know, it was so, I, I, I loved it.
- 9:19Speaker 5: When I would meet people and they'd be like, Oh
- 9:21Speaker 5: my God, you look so different in person than you
- 9:23Speaker 5: did on TV.
- 9:24Speaker 3: And Oh my goodness, you know, all this kind of stuff.
- 9:27Speaker 5: I think it was kind of like, um, it was a,
- 9:29Speaker 5: it was a weird backhanded compliment, you know, from the
- 9:31Speaker 5: whole run of the thing. I mean, you know, but the,
- 9:35Speaker 5: but at the same time, you know, I didn't, I
- 9:37Speaker 5: didn't sign myself up to be on Trista season of
- 9:40Speaker 5: the bachelorette.
- 9:41Speaker 3: I mean, that whole story in and of itself was
- 9:43Speaker 3: kind of crazy.
- 9:43Speaker 5: And they pursued me in a weird way that was like,
- 9:48Speaker 5: I was, I mean, Kudos, you know, on that one
- 9:50Speaker 5: to the casting department, because I thought it was a
- 9:53Speaker 5: joke when they were calling me. So I kept blowing
- 9:55Speaker 5: it off. And then next thing, you know, they're like, you,
- 9:58Speaker 5: we need to meet you. And they fly me outside unseen,
- 10:01Speaker 5: you know, and I've got a walking boot on and
- 10:03Speaker 5: I'll put a cat, like a garbage bag on it
- 10:05Speaker 5: to sit in the pool. And I meet a bunch
- 10:06Speaker 5: of girls and that's kind of the story. But yeah,
- 10:10Speaker 5: I mean, it was definitely a different time from the,
- 10:12Speaker 5: from that perspective. But I think also, I think, you know,
- 10:16Speaker 5: it was one of those things where if I would
- 10:17Speaker 5: have tried to do any of it, it would have
- 10:20Speaker 5: been terrible, but instead it was just sort of happening.
- 10:22Speaker 3: And as it unfolded, I was just along for the ride.
- 10:24Speaker 5: And took it for what it was, you know, and
- 10:27Speaker 5: it was, um, I'm thankful that I did cause it
- 10:29Speaker 5: worked the way it all worked out.
- 10:30Speaker 3: It's pretty, pretty spectacular.
- 10:32Speaker 2: This whole breakdown is never going to be about me,
- 10:35Speaker 2: but there is something that I remember now. Um, during
- 10:40Speaker 2: my casting, I came in with on crutches and a
- 10:44Speaker 2: walking boot, uh, and a knee brace because I had
- 10:47Speaker 2: just blown out my knee and had surgery and 10
- 10:50Speaker 2: days before casting and my casting meeting. And so I
- 10:54Speaker 2: remember them saying the last person we saw do this
- 10:56Speaker 2: was Bob Guinea.
- 10:57Speaker 3: That's crazy.
- 10:58Speaker 4: And I knew you at the time and I was like, well,
- 11:00Speaker 4: that's a cool name.
- 11:01Speaker 2: And it also was one of those moments where you're like, goodness,
- 11:03Speaker 2: I'm getting compared with Bob Guinea.
- 11:05Speaker 4: I know.
- 11:07Speaker 3: I watched him.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Now your mansion is different during this season. There's a
- 11:13Speaker 2: few different differences. If we look back then there's date
- 11:16Speaker 2: boxes instead of date cards.
- 11:19Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, that was interesting. I never saw the date boxes.
- 11:23Speaker 5: At the time, I'm not sure how it was on
- 11:25Speaker 5: your season, but we were supposed to act as though
- 11:28Speaker 5: we planned the date, right?
- 11:31Speaker 3: Yeah, and we were supposed to act as though we
- 11:33Speaker 3: put together this date box.
- 11:36Speaker 5: I mean, it's interesting because I saw them bring one
- 11:38Speaker 5: in watching the show back. And I was like, who
- 11:43Speaker 5: would have thought I would have put that together? It
- 11:44Speaker 5: was like a clamshell thing. like uh thing and they're
- 11:48Speaker 5: like oh my god and they're opening it and it's
- 11:49Speaker 5: like i mean it was clearly put together by someone
- 11:52Speaker 5: you know who had a little design aesthetic.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Uh beautiful handwriting that was the part one of the
- 11:57Speaker 2: girls came to me during my season said man your
- 12:00Speaker 2: handwriting is so good and i was like yeah.
- 12:03Speaker 5: Well you know what's funny about that whoever did the
- 12:05Speaker 5: and i and i i mean no disrespect if they
- 12:07Speaker 5: happen to be watching this but my handwriting my mom
- 12:10Speaker 5: was always like really strange about making sure my sister
- 12:12Speaker 5: and i had really pretty handwriting and I write like a,
- 12:15Speaker 5: I write like a woman.
- 12:16Speaker 3: I mean, I hope that's, that hope that doesn't.
- 12:18Speaker 5: Come across as sexist, but I write like someone who
- 12:21Speaker 5: cares about their handwriting and the people that whoever wrote
- 12:24Speaker 5: the date box or whatever that thing was, I was always.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Like, Oh, I wish they would have asked me. I
- 12:28Speaker 3: would have rewritten it.
- 12:31Speaker 5: And so, you know, it was kind of funny in
- 12:33Speaker 5: that regard that, uh, that you say that. Cause I
- 12:35Speaker 5: was like, wow, my handwriting is better than that person,
- 12:37Speaker 5: but okay. But you know, yeah, it was, it was
- 12:40Speaker 5: always interesting to me. Um, In fact, you know, one
- 12:43Speaker 5: of the things I'm sure we'll get into a little
- 12:45Speaker 5: bit was, you know, and maybe this was episode three,
- 12:48Speaker 5: I guess. But on episode three, when I had taken
- 12:52Speaker 5: Meredith on the date and we've interviewed Meredith on the show.
- 12:56Speaker 5: And it was kind of funny because some things happened
- 12:59Speaker 5: on that on the date. And I'm like, see, I
- 13:01Speaker 5: knew this happened. And I was I was so excited.
- 13:03Speaker 5: So we'll get to that when the time comes. I'm
- 13:05Speaker 5: not going to I'm not going to take your agenda
- 13:07Speaker 5: away from you.
- 13:08Speaker 3: I'll follow. I want to allow myself to be interviewed.
- 13:11Speaker 5: So let's go.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Well, we have no agenda. We're in this together, Bob.
- 13:13Speaker 2: And that's how I want this to be because it
- 13:15Speaker 2: is fun to hear from you. So we have date boxes.
- 13:17Speaker 2: We have a different location. The mansion that you're staying
- 13:22Speaker 2: in is the bachelor pad. Did you actually stay there?
- 13:25Speaker 3: Oh yeah.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:26Speaker 5: In fact, Andrew Firestone, you know, we became friends, uh,
- 13:29Speaker 5: fast friends previous to, um.
- 13:33Speaker 3: That, that was for me being on Trista season. And
- 13:34Speaker 3: then Andrew had already been the bachelor at that point.
- 13:37Speaker 3: And we became buddies.
- 13:38Speaker 5: And he even said to me, he's like, man, when
- 13:40Speaker 5: you get to that mansion, just know that it's creepy.
- 13:45Speaker 3: And I'm like, really?
- 13:46Speaker 5: I mean, it looked amazing and it shocked me, but
- 13:48Speaker 5: they had basically made it into a studio.
- 13:52Speaker 3: Right.
- 13:52Speaker 5: So it's a, it's a, it was a real house.
- 13:55Speaker 5: The guy was always around, which was kind of creepy.
- 13:57Speaker 4: Like a guy living there with you, the guy that
- 13:59Speaker 4: lived there.
- 14:00Speaker 5: He would stay in the guest house when they, when,
- 14:02Speaker 5: when we would be filming there, the pool was amazing.
- 14:04Speaker 3: And the view over the ocean was amazing.
- 14:06Speaker 5: But that place became like a vacant property for a
- 14:09Speaker 5: period of time after The Bachelor had moved on.
- 14:12Speaker 3: For good reason.
- 14:13Speaker 5: I mean, it was like you'd walk into this place, dude,
- 14:15Speaker 5: the bedroom itself, like you'd be laying in the bedroom
- 14:18Speaker 5: and like you'd lay in the bed and you'd be
- 14:20Speaker 5: looking up at the ceiling. And it was like the
- 14:22Speaker 5: ceiling had cameras and maybe not cameras, but definitely lights
- 14:26Speaker 5: and things that could have been cameras. And so you'd
- 14:28Speaker 5: be laying there looking at it going, are they like
- 14:30Speaker 5: watching me sleep? Like, this is so strange. And so
- 14:33Speaker 5: Andrew actually moved a mattress into the closet. And he
- 14:37Speaker 5: slept on the closet floor on a mattress. And I
- 14:40Speaker 5: had done that a couple of times, too, because it
- 14:42Speaker 5: was just stressing me out. Most of the time I
- 14:44Speaker 5: was fine. But, you know, yeah, it was the house
- 14:48Speaker 5: was had really cool bones. And I wish in retrospect
- 14:51Speaker 5: I would have like bought it because I know it
- 14:53Speaker 5: was here and I didn't. But maybe it was just
- 14:56Speaker 5: too much work to be done on it. But, yeah,
- 14:58Speaker 5: it was it was definitely a different place. Great view
- 15:01Speaker 5: of outdoors of the ocean and stuff, though, like a
- 15:03Speaker 5: zero gravity.
- 15:04Speaker 3: Really cool.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Yeah, it looks like the views from it are incredible.
- 15:08Speaker 4: It does shoot well.
- 15:10Speaker 2: And then the women were how far from you?
- 15:14Speaker 3: They were like about a mile up the road, maybe
- 15:16Speaker 3: a mile and a half up the road.
- 15:17Speaker 5: And, you know, I mean, I never, I think I
- 15:22Speaker 5: would go there to pick them up. But other than that,
- 15:24Speaker 5: I never really spent any time at their place. So
- 15:26Speaker 5: I didn't know what the setup was other than, you know,
- 15:30Speaker 5: when I would pull up to get them for dates and.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Stuff like that.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Yeah, well, because I think in modern times, it's kind
- 15:35Speaker 2: of weird to think, you know, the Bachelor Mansion is
- 15:38Speaker 2: iconic with the franchise now. People think of the Bachelor Mansion,
- 15:41Speaker 2: they think of the one that, you know, I was at,
- 15:44Speaker 2: that it's been at for the last few years.
- 15:47Speaker 4: But I think a.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Lot of people forget it wasn't always there. In fact,
- 15:50Speaker 2: some of our most successful, iconic, memorable seasons were not
- 15:55Speaker 2: shot at that mansion, yours included in that. We also
- 16:00Speaker 2: see some bigger sponsorships, I think, than we have today.
- 16:05Speaker 2: We see you walk in in medical pants and sip
- 16:08Speaker 2: on a Pepsi.
- 16:09Speaker 4: I mean, I'll.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Phrase this with being, I'm watching the first three episodes
- 16:16Speaker 2: and I'm still in awe of you, Bob. You are
- 16:18Speaker 2: an incredible person. human to these.
- 16:20Speaker 3: Women during this whole thing. So sweet that you were
- 16:23Speaker 3: saying that you.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Were, you're great at it. Uh, there's just those few
- 16:26Speaker 2: things that I'm like, Hey, I don't know. There's probably
- 16:28Speaker 2: more things. If you watched my bag, the sideburns were
- 16:31Speaker 2: like interesting choice, different time, different era. It's there's also
- 16:35Speaker 2: the way that you sip on a Pepsi makes me
- 16:38Speaker 2: feel all sorts of weird.
- 16:40Speaker 5: All right. So here's the deal. We're in Santa Monica, right?
- 16:44Speaker 5: And we're in this really cool hotel. I can't think
- 16:46Speaker 5: of the name of the hotel, but it's right there.
- 16:48Speaker 5: Right down, like, nearby the pier. It's, like, multiple-colored hotel
- 16:51Speaker 5: from the outside. It's an iconic place. But, and I
- 16:55Speaker 5: go in, and we're, the Viceroy.
- 16:57Speaker 3: Yeah, thank you.
- 16:58Speaker 5: And I go in to get my, they're going to do, like,
- 17:02Speaker 5: a wardrobe fitting for me, right?
- 17:04Speaker 3: And, of course, you know, there's much to.
- 17:06Speaker 5: Be made about the fact that, oh, well, when you
- 17:08Speaker 5: were on The Bachelorette, it was a totally different size.
- 17:10Speaker 3: And I'm like, yeah, we've covered that, you know.
- 17:12Speaker 5: Right.
- 17:13Speaker 4: Thanks again for remembering that.
- 17:15Speaker 5: Thanks for continuously reinforcing that. I appreciate it. So they
- 17:19Speaker 5: keep bringing in all these clothes for me to try on.
- 17:22Speaker 5: And then I'll never forget Jason Carbone, who was in
- 17:24Speaker 5: one of the co-EPs at the time.
- 17:26Speaker 3: Carbone says, all right, well, real quick, we're going.
- 17:29Speaker 5: To shoot this spot for Pepsi, vanilla Pepsi. And I said, oh,
- 17:34Speaker 5: are they sponsoring the show?
- 17:36Speaker 3: And he's like, yeah. And I said, well, that's cool.
- 17:38Speaker 3: What do I get out of it? What do you mean?
- 17:41Speaker 3: And I said, what do you mean, what do I mean?
- 17:43Speaker 3: I'm like, it's my likeness.
- 17:44Speaker 5: Now keeping in mind, I was also the first bachelor
- 17:47Speaker 5: at this point who, you know, I had had, I
- 17:49Speaker 5: had had a record deal. They kind of pushed that
- 17:52Speaker 5: down a little bit, but I, you know, I went
- 17:54Speaker 5: into it. I had been represented by the same agency
- 17:56Speaker 5: for several years. So I'm like, well, I didn't say
- 18:01Speaker 5: I was going to do like endorsements or anything like that.
- 18:04Speaker 5: You know, I'm like, Oh, it's part of the contract.
- 18:06Speaker 3: I'm like, I don't think so.
- 18:08Speaker 5: Like I'm going to, I'm, if I'm drinking Pepsi in
- 18:11Speaker 5: a thing, then I should, you know, at least send
- 18:14Speaker 5: me a couple cases of Pepsi.
- 18:15Speaker 3: Like what the hell, you know? And he's like, no, dude,
- 18:18Speaker 3: it's part of your thing. Just drink the Pepsi. And
- 18:20Speaker 3: I'm like, no. And he's like, yeah.
- 18:21Speaker 5: I'm like, okay, I'll drink it. So every time I
- 18:24Speaker 5: would do it, I would do it just stupidly. Like
- 18:27Speaker 5: things that I knew they couldn't use, you know? And
- 18:30Speaker 5: he's like, why are you doing this?
- 18:31Speaker 3: And I'm like, why not? I'm like, honestly, like, are
- 18:35Speaker 3: you kidding me?
- 18:35Speaker 5: And the funny thing is now I think I kind
- 18:37Speaker 5: of helped uh, future bachelors because now they, it's not
- 18:41Speaker 5: like they're doing herbal essence commercials during the run.
- 18:43Speaker 3: Of the passion for free. You know what I mean?
- 18:45Speaker 5: Here I am sucking down a vanilla Pepsi and it's like,
- 18:48Speaker 5: you know, no one's, I'm like, somebody's getting paid off
- 18:51Speaker 5: of this. And, um, sure enough, I'm sure somebody did,
- 18:54Speaker 5: but it wasn't me. So I, I decided I wasn't
- 18:56Speaker 5: going to give them quality material. And that was my
- 18:58Speaker 5: way of, you know, being a smart ass, I guess,
- 19:01Speaker 5: you know, for the lack of better words. And, and
- 19:03Speaker 5: that was how I was drinking my soda at the time.
- 19:05Speaker 5: Cause I figured there's no way that they would, ever
- 19:08Speaker 5: want their drinks to be associated with someone who would
- 19:10Speaker 5: drink a soda that way. Yeah.
- 19:12Speaker 2: I wonder, I want to make sure that like that
- 19:14Speaker 2: was planned because you watch it and you're like, Oh goodness, Bob,
- 19:17Speaker 2: like you're like.
- 19:18Speaker 3: I don't even know what I was doing.
- 19:21Speaker 4: You put your lips out real far. Yeah.
- 19:26Speaker 2: The we'll post that little pic on our social. So
- 19:29Speaker 2: people listening to this can go back and just watch
- 19:31Speaker 2: that moment.
- 19:33Speaker 5: And if you think about it, like, I mean, think
- 19:35Speaker 5: about yourself. Think about anybody who's been in that situation. Like,
- 19:38Speaker 5: no one would, you know, be like, oh, yeah, of course,
- 19:40Speaker 5: that's fine. I just was like, what are you guys
- 19:43Speaker 5: talking about? Like, no one ever talked to me about this,
- 19:45Speaker 5: you know?
- 19:46Speaker 3: And don't get me wrong.
- 19:47Speaker 5: I loved the beverage. It was a delightful flavor. You know,
- 19:52Speaker 5: wasn't anything wrong with the beverage itself. But I just
- 19:54Speaker 5: was like, no one asked me about this.
- 19:55Speaker 3: This is weird, you know? Yeah.
- 19:57Speaker 4: Well, I don't actually know.
- 20:00Speaker 2: I think you mentally can say that you help people.
- 20:03Speaker 2: But there's a slot machine somewhere out there that I have.
- 20:06Speaker 2: have lost money on with my picture on it.
- 20:08Speaker 4: So I'm sure.
- 20:10Speaker 3: I'm sure. Yeah.
- 20:11Speaker 4: So yeah, I.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Don't know how much things change in the, you know,
- 20:17Speaker 2: what 15 years between our times as bachelors also white
- 20:23Speaker 2: roses was unaware that the bachelor used to use white roses.
- 20:29Speaker 5: I didn't realize that either until watching it back. And I,
- 20:34Speaker 5: I'll be hard pressed to tell you that I thought
- 20:37Speaker 5: at one point they were red. So I'm thinking we
- 20:41Speaker 5: might change mid season.
- 20:42Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 20:44Speaker 2: I thought it was maybe like a, there is a
- 20:46Speaker 2: reason for specific roses. I, you know, nowadays I think
- 20:50Speaker 2: the bachelor claims they own, not own the rights. That's
- 20:53Speaker 2: I think they're alleging that they have some type of
- 20:56Speaker 2: trademark on like red roses. But I think right here,
- 21:01Speaker 2: we're seeing that it hasn't always been red roses, white roses,
- 21:04Speaker 2: Roses also.
- 21:06Speaker 4: Right.
- 21:06Speaker 5: Yeah. I wonder because, I mean, what does a white
- 21:10Speaker 5: rose symbolize?
- 21:11Speaker 3: I don't even know. I mean.
- 21:13Speaker 4: Purity.
- 21:14Speaker 3: Is that what it is?
- 21:15Speaker 4: Well, I don't know. I'm guessing.
- 21:16Speaker 5: Then they make the right choice because I have not
- 21:17Speaker 5: heard as a pure and sanctimonious badge.
- 21:31Speaker 2: All right, let's dive into some of the women that
- 21:33Speaker 2: stood out to me, and then I'd love for you
- 21:35Speaker 2: to add any women that stood out to you. Obviously,
- 21:38Speaker 2: we see Leanne get a lot of pushback from the
- 21:43Speaker 2: other women in the house. The one thing with the
- 21:48Speaker 2: past seasons, we don't get a lot of the background
- 21:50Speaker 2: storylines from the women, and so we're kind of just
- 21:52Speaker 2: relying on hearsay and feedback and interviews, but we're not
- 21:56Speaker 2: understanding why they're upset with people. Leanne was one of
- 21:59Speaker 2: those for me. I understand she's 24. She's a second
- 22:02Speaker 2: grade teacher. Did you have any feelings that Leanne or
- 22:08Speaker 2: any of these other women were like, maybe not getting
- 22:11Speaker 2: along with the other ladies in the house?
- 22:13Speaker 5: No. You know, not until it started being brought to
- 22:17Speaker 5: my attention. And I, and I will say this, you know, like,
- 22:20Speaker 5: I think that, you know, it's one of those things.
- 22:23Speaker 5: And we see this years later watching the show too. Like,
- 22:26Speaker 5: you know, people are always like, oh, you must've kept
- 22:28Speaker 5: her around because the producers told you to. And you're like,
- 22:31Speaker 5: and I was like, no, I kept her around because
- 22:34Speaker 5: I thought she was really cute. She was sweet.
- 22:37Speaker 3: And she was very.
- 22:40Speaker 5: Deliberate about her time with me. You know, like we
- 22:43Speaker 5: would be together and she'd be like, I'm here for you.
- 22:45Speaker 5: And I, you know, I just, I don't care. You know,
- 22:49Speaker 5: and that didn't strike me as a bad thing.
- 22:51Speaker 3: You know what I mean? Like, even though, cause I
- 22:53Speaker 3: had made it such a point you know, I really, when.
- 22:56Speaker 5: They first asked me to be the bachelor and I
- 22:58Speaker 5: don't say this flippantly, I was like, no, thank you.
- 23:01Speaker 5: I'm loving, I'm loving my life as the lovable loser
- 23:04Speaker 5: from Trista season. Everywhere I go, they're like, she should
- 23:07Speaker 5: have chose you. I'm like, actually she shouldn't have. She
- 23:09Speaker 5: chose the right guy. Cause I always loved Tristan Ryan together.
- 23:11Speaker 5: But it was like, I knew the pressure that came
- 23:14Speaker 5: with that position. And man, if you did, if you
- 23:17Speaker 5: got the wrong, if you pick what the people thought
- 23:20Speaker 5: were the wrong person, which at the time they really
- 23:22Speaker 5: skewed the way they edited the show.
- 23:24Speaker 3: So that everybody was in love with the runner up.
- 23:26Speaker 5: Right.
- 23:26Speaker 3: And that, you know, that way when the, when, you know, I.
- 23:30Speaker 5: Think they started doing that because they realized it was
- 23:32Speaker 5: a good move to recast someone who had previously done
- 23:35Speaker 5: on a season, frankly.
- 23:37Speaker 3: And I was the, I was the start of that
- 23:39Speaker 3: for the guys. But I think it was one.
- 23:42Speaker 5: Of those things that like, you know, you'd come off
- 23:45Speaker 5: the show and there, and no matter what they thought
- 23:47Speaker 5: the other girl should have won. And I remember how
- 23:50Speaker 5: horrible I felt, you know, with, that, you know, even with,
- 23:54Speaker 5: even with Estella and Kelly Jo, how horrible I felt
- 23:56Speaker 5: about that stuff. And, but I, I liked Leanne. I
- 24:00Speaker 5: thought Leanne was super cute. She was very flirty and fun.
- 24:04Speaker 5: And like I said, very deliberate about why she was there.
- 24:08Speaker 5: And she was like, you know, I, I knew who
- 24:10Speaker 5: you were on the show.
- 24:11Speaker 3: I emailed you.
- 24:12Speaker 5: I forgot she even said that to me until she
- 24:14Speaker 5: comes up to me when she's getting out of the limo.
- 24:16Speaker 3: And she's like, it's so weird.
- 24:17Speaker 5: I emailed you and you didn't answer.
- 24:20Speaker 3: And I was like, I don't even think I know
- 24:23Speaker 3: how to work my email yet.
- 24:24Speaker 5: I mean, this is really guys, this is really, um, and, uh,
- 24:27Speaker 5: but it was like one of those things where it
- 24:28Speaker 5: was like, uh, you know, I thought she was attractive
- 24:32Speaker 5: and I liked that she was so into me.
- 24:35Speaker 3: I mean, I hate to say that.
- 24:36Speaker 5: Like that because it sounds so egotistical, but I liked that.
- 24:39Speaker 5: And I wasn't picking up on the fact that the
- 24:42Speaker 5: other women and she didn't get along until later in the,
- 24:46Speaker 5: in the, I think actually right where season where episode
- 24:50Speaker 5: three ends, where they vote for someone who they think
- 24:52Speaker 5: is the least compatible.
- 24:53Speaker 3: And that's the first.
- 24:56Speaker 5: Indication that I got that the women didn't like her
- 24:59Speaker 5: because I'm like, how would they say she's the least
- 25:01Speaker 5: compatible with me?
- 25:02Speaker 3: Like we get along great, you know?
- 25:04Speaker 5: And ultimately I think it was because, you know, they
- 25:06Speaker 5: didn't like her and they didn't, they knew more about
- 25:08Speaker 5: her perhaps than I did. And you know, but yeah,
- 25:12Speaker 5: nothing was leaked to me previously by the producers or anyone.
- 25:16Speaker 2: They there's one other big difference in this season. And
- 25:22Speaker 2: I remember when this was going on and I actually
- 25:25Speaker 2: don't know the season they change it on, but there's
- 25:28Speaker 2: a whole deliberation room with photos of the women. I
- 25:32Speaker 2: personally liked that part of the show as a viewer.
- 25:38Speaker 4: I thought it was.
- 25:38Speaker 2: Fun to see them kind of look through pictures and
- 25:41Speaker 2: take down pictures and, it's also, I don't know if
- 25:45Speaker 2: you can attest to this, but it's especially on night,
- 25:47Speaker 2: like one through three, it's very helpful to have the picture.
- 25:53Speaker 5: I was just going to say, you know, I don't
- 25:55Speaker 5: know how the guys, uh, did, did this job without it, frankly.
- 26:00Speaker 5: I mean, maybe they did, maybe they still utilized it
- 26:02Speaker 5: and they just didn't feel the need to show.
- 26:04Speaker 4: I mean, I didn't have them.
- 26:05Speaker 3: Oh, you didn't have them at all.
- 26:06Speaker 5: Huh?
- 26:06Speaker 2: I didn't have them. And I had to, I had a,
- 26:09Speaker 2: like a, a list of the names.
- 26:12Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 26:13Speaker 2: In fact, I had, um, It was like a Rolodex
- 26:16Speaker 2: of their pictures with their names on it. So it's
- 26:18Speaker 2: like their casting picture and I could like it fit
- 26:20Speaker 2: in a backpack.
- 26:21Speaker 4: So it went everywhere.
- 26:22Speaker 2: I went for the first few weeks because I was like, okay,
- 26:25Speaker 2: I'm going on this group date with so, so, and so,
- 26:27Speaker 2: and I could scroll through it.
- 26:29Speaker 3: Did you make that or did they make that for you?
- 26:31Speaker 4: They made that for me.
- 26:32Speaker 5: Yeah. I was walking around with like eight by tens,
- 26:36Speaker 5: but I'll say this, you know, I'll never forget the
- 26:39Speaker 5: first night. And I, I think I've told you this
- 26:42Speaker 5: story before, but, I, after the very first night, it
- 26:45Speaker 5: wasn't that I thought I made a mistake of any
- 26:47Speaker 5: of the women that I kept, but I definitely regretted
- 26:51Speaker 5: sending one home. And I sent, and you talk about
- 26:54Speaker 5: doing things for the right reasons. I sent her home
- 26:56Speaker 5: for the wrong reasons. And I went to the producers
- 27:01Speaker 5: and I was like, I have a thought.
- 27:03Speaker 3: And they're like, okay.
- 27:05Speaker 5: And I'm like, I really think we should do like
- 27:06Speaker 5: a golden rose or something where I can bring someone
- 27:10Speaker 5: back that I'm thinking about that I sent home and
- 27:15Speaker 5: that maybe.
- 27:16Speaker 3: I shouldn't have. And they're like, no, you know, there
- 27:18Speaker 3: was no deviation from the formula back then.
- 27:20Speaker 5: And I remember being really bummed about it because Shay,
- 27:24Speaker 5: the firefighter from Louisiana.
- 27:26Speaker 2: I was, she's on my list. I want to dig
- 27:28Speaker 2: into Shay. I thought Shay was a knockout.
- 27:31Speaker 3: Beautiful and super cool.
- 27:33Speaker 5: Like, and, but I hardly got to talk to her
- 27:36Speaker 5: and I was so concerned that people were going to
- 27:39Speaker 5: think that, I, you know, at the time, you know,
- 27:45Speaker 5: I really hadn't watched The Bachelor previously to my season
- 27:48Speaker 5: and I knew who Trista was, but I really hadn't
- 27:51Speaker 5: watched the show in its entirety. And so I I
- 27:55Speaker 5: was concerned that people were going to think I kept
- 27:58Speaker 5: her around because she was.
- 28:00Speaker 3: The hot one or one of the hot ones.
- 28:02Speaker 5: And I didn't realize that they wouldn't know that I
- 28:04Speaker 5: didn't get a chance to talk to her. Right. Like
- 28:06Speaker 5: in my mind, I thought they were going to see that.
- 28:08Speaker 3: Oh, my God.
- 28:08Speaker 5: He never even got to talk to this girl and
- 28:10Speaker 5: he kept her. What a superficial asshole. Like that's what,
- 28:12Speaker 5: that's what I was.
- 28:14Speaker 3: And, um, unbeknownst to me, you know, no one knew
- 28:17Speaker 3: that I didn't matter.
- 28:17Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:18Speaker 5: Right. And so when I sent her home, it was
- 28:20Speaker 5: because I didn't get to know her and, um, and
- 28:25Speaker 5: I didn't want people to judge me for keeping her. And, and, uh,
- 28:29Speaker 5: and so, you know, there's, there's a little bachelor lore
- 28:32Speaker 5: for you, I guess, is that, you know, someone who
- 28:35Speaker 5: I was very attracted to, I never got to talk
- 28:37Speaker 5: to you and I sent her home and, Um, in retrospect,
- 28:40Speaker 5: you know, it's like, uh, I wish I could have
- 28:42Speaker 5: gotten to know her more because she was someone who
- 28:45Speaker 5: I thought about for a day or two after that
- 28:47Speaker 5: first rose money.
- 28:48Speaker 3: And, um, you know, I was disappointed that I, that
- 28:51Speaker 3: I didn't get to know her better.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Well, and you also had mentioned her with Chris, Chris
- 28:55Speaker 2: comes and you can sit in the deliberation room and
- 28:57Speaker 2: he's like, who stood out to you? And you mentioned
- 28:59Speaker 2: her name and I immediately went, okay, good. She's going
- 29:02Speaker 2: to be here. Cause I thought she was fantastic. She's
- 29:04Speaker 2: a firefighter and hairstylist. beautiful from the South. I'm like,
- 29:09Speaker 2: that is a really like interesting person to follow along with.
- 29:13Speaker 4: Totally.
- 29:14Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 29:14Speaker 4: And then you send her home and it was shocking
- 29:16Speaker 4: to me.
- 29:16Speaker 2: I think it probably was shocking to the audience as well.
- 29:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:22Speaker 3: I mean, it's interesting, you know, you don't know what
- 29:24Speaker 3: you don't know at that point.
- 29:25Speaker 5: And it was like, you know, in my mind, I
- 29:29Speaker 5: guess I was trying to make sure everyone knew that
- 29:31Speaker 5: I was going to do the right thing. And I
- 29:33Speaker 5: was sure try and handle this properly and i in
- 29:37Speaker 5: you know in uh in retrospect you know i i
- 29:39Speaker 5: did go to the producers and ask if we could
- 29:41Speaker 5: bring her back and they said no so yeah i
- 29:44Speaker 5: wonder what she's doing today hope she's yeah if.
- 29:46Speaker 2: She listens to this i would love to do like
- 29:49Speaker 2: to bring her into one of these conversations.
- 29:52Speaker 3: Oh my god that'd be awesome wouldn't it yeah.
- 29:54Speaker 2: In fact, I'll just put a PSA out there. If
- 29:57Speaker 2: any of the women from Bob's season listens to this recap,
- 30:02Speaker 2: please write us or call in. And we want to
- 30:05Speaker 2: get you on for a few minutes to talk to
- 30:07Speaker 2: you about Bachelor Bob.
- 30:10Speaker 5: I'd love to find out what Leanne thinks. I don't
- 30:12Speaker 5: think anyone ever got to talk to her because they
- 30:14Speaker 5: didn't talk to the quote-unquote villains back then. I don't
- 30:17Speaker 5: think she was a villain, but they didn't really– showcase them,
- 30:22Speaker 5: you know, uh, like we've done, you know, in seasons past,
- 30:25Speaker 5: I'd be curious to think to find out what she
- 30:27Speaker 5: thought about the whole situation.
- 30:29Speaker 2: Any other women that really stood out to you in
- 30:32Speaker 2: night one, let's start there that you were like, Hey,
- 30:37Speaker 2: this is gold. She's going to be around a while. She's,
- 30:39Speaker 2: she's like, I'm, I can't, you know, ever see saying
- 30:43Speaker 2: goodbye to her.
- 30:44Speaker 4: Definitely.
- 30:45Speaker 3: Um, Kelly, Joe, definitely Estella.
- 30:48Speaker 5: Um, you know, the, and a lot of it, like,
- 30:50Speaker 5: you know, back then there wasn't the hokey, you know,
- 30:53Speaker 5: you better think of something really clever when you come
- 30:55Speaker 5: in and wearing a costume coming in on a horse
- 30:57Speaker 5: or any of that stuff.
- 30:58Speaker 3: It was just really that first impression. And, um, I really.
- 31:03Speaker 5: Remember, um, Estella and Kelly Joe from that first night,
- 31:06Speaker 5: just making a huge impact on me. And, um, you know,
- 31:09Speaker 5: Mary came in speaking Spanish and it was very, you know,
- 31:12Speaker 5: it was like sexy and cool and it was different,
- 31:16Speaker 5: you know.
- 31:16Speaker 3: For, for that.
- 31:17Speaker 5: And, um, uh, I remember, um, I remember Christy from
- 31:22Speaker 5: Chicago who she, she stuck around.
- 31:24Speaker 3: I remember, um, Misty, um, like Misty Rake.
- 31:28Speaker 5: Um, like a lot of those entrances were just really
- 31:31Speaker 5: natural and sweet and nice. And, um, you know, and
- 31:36Speaker 5: I just, yeah, I remember those and thinking, oh, wow,
- 31:39Speaker 5: I'm excited to get to know them, you know? Um, and,
- 31:41Speaker 5: and Leanne mentioning that she had written me and, Um,
- 31:45Speaker 5: you know, some, I remember somebody showed up with a
- 31:47Speaker 5: CD that I had put out and was like, you know,
- 31:49Speaker 5: I'm going to have you sign this before I leave.
- 31:51Speaker 3: And I can't remember who that was and they didn't
- 31:52Speaker 3: show it, but.
- 31:53Speaker 4: Did you ever sign it?
- 31:54Speaker 3: I don't think so. I don't think so.
- 31:56Speaker 5: I didn't want me to after I sent him home,
- 31:58Speaker 5: you know, but no, you know, I can't, I mean,
- 32:03Speaker 5: there was just some really like super, uh, genuine moments
- 32:07Speaker 5: like that.
- 32:07Speaker 3: I was, I was shocked.
- 32:09Speaker 5: Cause I didn't think that it was going to be,
- 32:10Speaker 5: I was jaded, I think.
- 32:13Speaker 3: Going into it and maybe didn't trust the process.
- 32:16Speaker 5: Like I, you know, because I went into it from
- 32:19Speaker 5: the mindset of I'll give it a try, but, you know,
- 32:21Speaker 5: who knows, you know, or whatever. And instead I was like, wow,
- 32:25Speaker 5: that was way cooler than I thought it was going to.
- 32:28Speaker 3: Be, you know.
- 32:29Speaker 5: And it was a really fun experience and a really
- 32:31Speaker 5: fun night, especially, you know, then my mom shows up
- 32:34Speaker 5: and that was pretty awesome.
- 32:36Speaker 4: Yeah, let's jump to that part.
- 32:40Speaker 2: I don't think we've seen that since, at least on
- 32:42Speaker 2: night one. But there is a thing.
- 32:44Speaker 4: That you do.
- 32:46Speaker 2: And I watched this because I haven't gone back and
- 32:48Speaker 2: watched pre-seasons in a while. And I'm trying to figure out,
- 32:54Speaker 2: because people are asking me right now, when I sit
- 32:58Speaker 2: down and talk to them, who should be the next Bachelor?
- 33:00Speaker 2: And I don't want to just flippantly throw out names. One,
- 33:03Speaker 2: because I don't know the backstory of everybody. But two,
- 33:06Speaker 2: I want to make sure I'm answering it with, this
- 33:08Speaker 2: is who I think could be a good bachelor. One
- 33:10Speaker 2: that we cheer for, that's captivating, that brings the good
- 33:16Speaker 2: side out in people. And you were definitely that. I mean,
- 33:20Speaker 2: you were authentic. You were transparent. You didn't just say fluff.
- 33:25Speaker 2: And one of the things I appreciated was how you
- 33:27Speaker 2: spoke about your ex-wife. And that relationship. Also, how you
- 33:33Speaker 2: spoke about your mom and the jokes that you made
- 33:35Speaker 2: with Chris. I mean, you had more cojones than I did,
- 33:39Speaker 2: especially early on, because I couldn't make any jokes.
- 33:41Speaker 4: I was so nervous. But you're like, every time you
- 33:44Speaker 4: say Mrs. Guinea, Chris, it makes me think of my mom,
- 33:46Speaker 4: which is weird, buddy.
- 33:48Speaker 3: I'm like, it's getting kind of weird. No, you know,
- 33:52Speaker 3: I've always been, you know, I've always.
- 33:56Speaker 5: had a great relationship with my parents and with my family.
- 34:00Speaker 3: And, you know, I made no secret about it. You know,
- 34:02Speaker 3: I was always like, yeah, I'm just a, you know.
- 34:04Speaker 5: Curly-headed, buck-toothed mama's boy from, you know, from South Detroit, right?
- 34:08Speaker 5: And so I would always like just, you know, I
- 34:11Speaker 5: don't know. I've always had that kind of self-deprecation from
- 34:13Speaker 5: that perspective. But, you know, my parents mean a lot
- 34:17Speaker 5: to me and meant a lot to me. And, you know,
- 34:21Speaker 5: lost my dad a few years ago. So watching this,
- 34:23Speaker 5: seeing him on there, was really touching.
- 34:25Speaker 3: And then, uh, you know, I.
- 34:28Speaker 5: Can't say enough about seeing my mom in that element,
- 34:31Speaker 5: given what we're going through now, my mom has dementia and, um,
- 34:34Speaker 5: you know, we're struggling with that. And, uh, it really
- 34:38Speaker 5: was touching.
- 34:40Speaker 3: I have to thank you.
- 34:41Speaker 5: I have to thank the bachelor producers for that because, um,
- 34:44Speaker 5: you know, we've had our differences over the years, but, uh,
- 34:46Speaker 5: for them to showcase my mom in that way for
- 34:49Speaker 5: me now to be able to see it all these
- 34:51Speaker 5: years later, I forgot that, I forgot just some of
- 34:54Speaker 5: the magic that my mom brought to situations and the
- 34:58Speaker 5: way she walked into a room. And then here she is,
- 35:00Speaker 5: you know, at this stage in her life and her
- 35:03Speaker 5: son ends up on some TV show.
- 35:04Speaker 3: And she's like, of course I'll go on.
- 35:05Speaker 5: And then she comes in and just not in a
- 35:08Speaker 5: way that we've seen some other moms. My mom, open
- 35:12Speaker 5: book is hugging. Everyone wants everyone to feel welcome.
- 35:16Speaker 3: Totally not judgmental. Cause that's, that's who my mom is.
- 35:19Speaker 3: And she loved all of them.
- 35:21Speaker 5: Like she literally was zero help because she, She loved
- 35:25Speaker 5: every woman that she met that season. And, you know,
- 35:29Speaker 5: there was never a moment that I mean, it was
- 35:31Speaker 5: really hard for my mom.
- 35:32Speaker 3: And we'll see later and later on when my family
- 35:35Speaker 3: comes back into it.
- 35:35Speaker 5: Very, very difficult for her to say that she liked
- 35:39Speaker 5: one person over another for me because she genuinely saw
- 35:43Speaker 5: things in everyone that she loved. And thankfully, I'm a
- 35:46Speaker 5: lot like my mom in that regard. Like it's I
- 35:48Speaker 5: don't really meet too many people that I don't like.
- 35:51Speaker 5: And my mom, I think I got that from her,
- 35:54Speaker 5: and I'm thankful, really thankful for that.
- 35:57Speaker 2: It is one of those moments we pause because for
- 36:01Speaker 2: as funny and goofy as The Bachelor can be, especially
- 36:07Speaker 2: watching it back, there are moments that changed me and
- 36:12Speaker 2: moments that if I watched back, I would feel very
- 36:15Speaker 2: deeply about, changed.
- 36:17Speaker 4: Who I am.
- 36:19Speaker 2: And I think that was– I have it written down here. Like,
- 36:24Speaker 2: just seeing my parents on TV would be wild and
- 36:26Speaker 2: weird and also really cool.
- 36:28Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 36:29Speaker 2: And I was assuming that when you saw that scene
- 36:31Speaker 2: with your mom walking in and your dad there, that
- 36:34Speaker 2: it did hit you differently. No matter how fun and
- 36:37Speaker 2: goofy this whole thing is, you see them back. You
- 36:41Speaker 2: see who they are.
- 36:42Speaker 3: And you see them young.
- 36:43Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah. the visual of, of the way my parents
- 36:47Speaker 5: were at that time. And cause you know, I mean,
- 36:50Speaker 5: let's be honest, right? No one looks in the mirror
- 36:51Speaker 5: and we don't see ourselves aging the way that we
- 36:54Speaker 5: genuinely do.
- 36:56Speaker 3: And one of the things that you get as, as,
- 36:58Speaker 3: as a.
- 36:59Speaker 5: Part of being a part of this franchise, I guess,
- 37:00Speaker 5: is you have this kind of this, this captured moment
- 37:03Speaker 5: in time that, you know, it's a movie.
- 37:06Speaker 3: It's not just a picture.
- 37:07Speaker 5: It's a, it's a video diary of your life of that,
- 37:11Speaker 5: this most amazing part of your life that, you know,
- 37:14Speaker 5: whether it worked out for the couple or not, it's
- 37:16Speaker 5: still something that you, you have that a lot of
- 37:19Speaker 5: people don't. And to see my, my sister, my brother-in-law
- 37:22Speaker 5: to see my nephew, Jack, uh, which we'll see him
- 37:25Speaker 5: in later episodes. Cause I remember watching that episode and
- 37:27Speaker 5: being just in love with the, the way.
- 37:30Speaker 3: They capture him. And then, um, my grandmother, you know, who.
- 37:34Speaker 5: Wasn't able to make the video, uh, I wasn't able
- 37:37Speaker 5: to make the shooting, uh, schedule because she actually fell
- 37:40Speaker 5: down and hurt herself, uh, before we got there to,
- 37:43Speaker 5: to film. And, and she was embarrassed cause she had
- 37:46Speaker 5: like a black eye cause she fell down and hit
- 37:47Speaker 5: her face on, on this thing.
- 37:49Speaker 3: And she was like, I don't want to be on camera.
- 37:51Speaker 3: I'm like, I get it, grandma. It's okay.
- 37:52Speaker 5: You know, but it's like the memory that daddy votes
- 37:54Speaker 5: with me too, is just, you know, crazy.
- 37:57Speaker 3: But yeah, I mean, you know, it's funny.
- 37:59Speaker 5: I always used to make fun of the fact that
- 38:01Speaker 5: I was like, you know, well, I didn't cry when
- 38:04Speaker 5: I was the bachelor on, on, on camera, you know,
- 38:06Speaker 5: or whatever. And, um, but man, it brought me to
- 38:09Speaker 5: tears watching it.
- 38:10Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah. Well, I, uh, It is special.
- 38:14Speaker 2: And you, I, you just kept, you said it perfectly
- 38:16Speaker 2: is these are huge moments in our life, no matter
- 38:19Speaker 2: how we look back on them, they changed us and
- 38:21Speaker 2: to have family involved in them and being able to see,
- 38:25Speaker 2: I mean, goodness, like I remember my mom getting dressed
- 38:31Speaker 2: and getting her makeup done by like a makeup artist.
- 38:33Speaker 2: It was like one of her first times ever to
- 38:35Speaker 2: come on and film and how excited she was and
- 38:38Speaker 2: how nervous she was. And I'm like, goodness, like that,
- 38:41Speaker 2: even in itself, You know, it's like we're giving our
- 38:44Speaker 2: parents moments that they'll remember no matter how they feel
- 38:47Speaker 2: about the moment itself. There's moments to remember and how
- 38:50Speaker 2: special is that that you get to celebrate and share
- 38:52Speaker 2: that and now watch it back.
- 38:54Speaker 3: Pretty magical.
- 39:06Speaker 4: Switching gears a little bit.
- 39:09Speaker 2: Obviously, we are talking about episodes one through three and
- 39:12Speaker 2: kind of the highlights and the overview of them. It's
- 39:14Speaker 2: not important for us to dig into what happened at
- 39:17Speaker 2: every scene. It's not interesting to anybody, but I would
- 39:19Speaker 2: recommend going and watching this back. We're watching it on Tubi.
- 39:23Speaker 2: It is worth going and watching back and going through
- 39:27Speaker 2: the process. We talked through night one. That's its own beast, Bob.
- 39:33Speaker 2: And you handled it well. You handled it as well
- 39:35Speaker 2: as anybody can. It's kind of just a chaotic mess.
- 39:38Speaker 2: And you send a bunch of people home. And then
- 39:40Speaker 2: you continue on.
- 39:41Speaker 4: And you have then.
- 39:42Speaker 2: You start these group dates. The group date stress and pressure.
- 39:47Speaker 2: And I want to ask this question. because it was
- 39:53Speaker 2: your story more than I think anybody else's story. You
- 39:56Speaker 2: were beloved following your season.
- 39:59Speaker 4: You were the lovable loser. You were on Oprah. You
- 40:02Speaker 4: were supported.
- 40:04Speaker 2: And I think when they said, Hey, we had to
- 40:06Speaker 2: make Bob the bachelor because people wouldn't shut up about it.
- 40:09Speaker 2: I don't think they were lying. I think people were
- 40:11Speaker 2: like that guy. We want to watch again. There are
- 40:14Speaker 2: many reasons for that. I mean, they saw something in
- 40:17Speaker 2: you that says, Hey, I relate with this guy, but
- 40:19Speaker 2: I also love this guy. And he's, charismatic and handsome
- 40:22Speaker 2: and he deserves love. But I, and I, I hesitate
- 40:28Speaker 2: here because I put myself.
- 40:29Speaker 4: Into your situation and I don't mean to, but I.
- 40:31Speaker 2: Don't know how to ask the question. How did that
- 40:34Speaker 2: not carry on for you to be there on these
- 40:37Speaker 2: group dates and.
- 40:38Speaker 4: On night one?
- 40:40Speaker 2: To live up to this expectation that they had of
- 40:43Speaker 2: you at that point.
- 40:44Speaker 4: And, and maybe even add in.
- 40:46Speaker 2: And when you answer this, what you knew America had
- 40:50Speaker 2: of you, like, you know, you said already you were
- 40:52Speaker 2: in your own head about it.
- 40:53Speaker 4: I'm sure you were man. Like you knew how much
- 40:55Speaker 4: people loved you. You don't want to let them down.
- 40:57Speaker 3: Yeah. It was, it was a lot of pressure. I
- 41:00Speaker 3: remember feeling, I didn't feel like it was too big
- 41:04Speaker 3: for me.
- 41:04Speaker 5: I mean, you know, I, I don't, I don't want to,
- 41:07Speaker 5: I want to sound like an, arrogant ass saying that,
- 41:09Speaker 5: but I didn't feel like it was out of the
- 41:12Speaker 5: scope of what I could do.
- 41:13Speaker 3: Um, but I did feel like, like.
- 41:15Speaker 5: The biggest thing for me was like, man, I'm going
- 41:18Speaker 5: to hurt some people's feelings and they don't deserve it.
- 41:20Speaker 5: And I just don't know how to avoid that. And that,
- 41:24Speaker 5: that for whatever reason weighed on me very heavily. And I,
- 41:26Speaker 5: and I, I hear myself say it like in the,
- 41:28Speaker 5: in the first episode, especially, uh, quite a bit, but
- 41:31Speaker 5: I also remember, you know, I remember I thought I
- 41:34Speaker 5: had worked out this great thing with the producers.
- 41:36Speaker 3: And I was like, I'll do it. I'll be the
- 41:38Speaker 3: bachelor guy. If, and I had like a couple of provisions, right.
- 41:41Speaker 5: And one of them was, I'm like, I don't ever
- 41:43Speaker 5: want to, I don't ever want the joke to be
- 41:44Speaker 5: on me.
- 41:45Speaker 3: And they're like, wait a minute. I'm like, well, if
- 41:46Speaker 3: you want me to do something, you need to tell
- 41:48Speaker 3: me why.
- 41:50Speaker 5: And then I'm going to determine whether or not I'm
- 41:51Speaker 5: going to do it, but I want to know what
- 41:53Speaker 5: you guys are going.
- 41:53Speaker 3: For, you know?
- 41:54Speaker 5: And if, and if it's manipulative or if it's mean,
- 41:57Speaker 5: I'm not doing it, you know? And, Um, and so,
- 42:00Speaker 5: you know, to that end, I remember them at one
- 42:02Speaker 5: point saying, you know, okay, here's the deal.
- 42:04Speaker 3: And Sally Ann Salsano, who I still love. Sally Ann's like, okay,
- 42:08Speaker 3: here's what we're going to do.
- 42:09Speaker 5: Guinea. Uh, these three girls are sitting on the couch
- 42:12Speaker 5: and there's a reason for it because the one in
- 42:15Speaker 5: the middle and the other two don't like each other.
- 42:17Speaker 5: And so what we want you to do is we
- 42:18Speaker 5: want you to go over. And this is when people
- 42:21Speaker 5: ask me, look, is it, is the show scripted?
- 42:22Speaker 3: I'm like, it wasn't for me. Situations were, but they
- 42:26Speaker 3: didn't tell me what to say or anything. And they're like, okay.
- 42:28Speaker 3: And so literally, she'd say, you know, I want you
- 42:29Speaker 3: to go over. I want you to ask the girl
- 42:31Speaker 3: in the middle if you can steal some time with her.
- 42:34Speaker 3: And I want you to go outside. I want you
- 42:35Speaker 3: to sit on that bench. And I'm like, all right.
- 42:38Speaker 3: And then what? She's like, doesn't matter. We're not filming you.
- 42:41Speaker 3: We're filming them.
- 42:42Speaker 5: It's their reaction that matters. And I was like, thank you.
- 42:46Speaker 5: Thank you for telling me that. So now I'm like, OK,
- 42:49Speaker 5: I'll do that. You know, and so I go over.
- 42:50Speaker 5: I go, sure enough, though, they end up filming me anyway.
- 42:53Speaker 5: But they are filming the girl's reaction. And I thought
- 42:55Speaker 5: that was Interesting. So I was like, I'll do that.
- 42:58Speaker 5: That's OK. And why don't they like her? Now, you know,
- 43:01Speaker 5: just the way women can be sometimes or whatever.
- 43:02Speaker 3: And I'm like, oh, OK.
- 43:04Speaker 5: And so now what you know, what inherently happens to
- 43:07Speaker 5: me in a moment like that is when now it's
- 43:09Speaker 5: and I want to make them like each other. Right.
- 43:11Speaker 5: So my goal, you know, and this is I blame
- 43:13Speaker 5: my mom for this one, too. But my goal is
- 43:15Speaker 5: now I want to find out what about this girl
- 43:18Speaker 5: do they not.
- 43:18Speaker 3: Like and how can I somehow make them like each other?
- 43:21Speaker 5: Right. And so, you know, then it becomes like this
- 43:23Speaker 5: weird challenge for me. And like, it's just stupid. It's
- 43:26Speaker 5: just like how I am. But, you know, that was
- 43:28Speaker 5: something that I thought was interesting.
- 43:30Speaker 3: I forgot what your question even was. Oh, how do
- 43:33Speaker 3: I get through the whole situation? And it became a thing, though.
- 43:35Speaker 5: I was like, OK, you know what? I'm going to
- 43:37Speaker 5: find out something about everyone. My whole point was I
- 43:41Speaker 5: want to find out something about everyone, but I'm going
- 43:42Speaker 5: to remember it. And so I literally did. Like, I
- 43:45Speaker 5: remember at night I'd be laying in my weird room.
- 43:48Speaker 5: And I would write down, especially for the women that
- 43:51Speaker 5: I sent home that first rose ceremony, I wrote down
- 43:54Speaker 5: their names and I wrote down something about them that
- 43:57Speaker 5: I thought was really interesting.
- 44:00Speaker 3: I remember the girl, I think her name is Lena, Lana.
- 44:04Speaker 3: Her name is Lana. And she had a llama farm.
- 44:08Speaker 3: I wrote it down. Llama farm. Lana the llama. Yeah,
- 44:13Speaker 3: Lana with the llama farm.
- 44:14Speaker 5: And then the twins, like I knew something about each
- 44:16Speaker 5: of the twins and, and I think it was the
- 44:18Speaker 5: first season they ever had twins. And I think they,
- 44:21Speaker 5: they would have probably wanted me to keep one and
- 44:24Speaker 5: send one, but I was like, no, they're packaged deal
- 44:26Speaker 5: one way or the other.
- 44:27Speaker 3: It doesn't matter to me. I'm not doing that. And
- 44:29Speaker 3: you know, there's a lot.
- 44:30Speaker 5: Of that kind of stuff, you know, that I was like,
- 44:32Speaker 5: and I, you know, I'm sure you were too, but
- 44:34Speaker 5: I was constantly skeptical of what the producers were asking
- 44:38Speaker 5: me to do. And, you know, are they, are they
- 44:40Speaker 5: just manipulating the situation to try and get, you know,
- 44:42Speaker 5: So I watched that a lot too. But I was,
- 44:44Speaker 5: I remember that first night thinking, you know, I want
- 44:47Speaker 5: to make a point of making sure that each one
- 44:49Speaker 5: of these women have fun tonight because I don't want
- 44:54Speaker 5: them to go home and think, God, he's such a,
- 44:56Speaker 5: you know, a self-consumed, you know, PLS, right? I wanted
- 45:01Speaker 5: them to at least know that I cared that they
- 45:02Speaker 5: took the time to be there, that I wanted them
- 45:05Speaker 5: to at least appreciate the night and the situation and
- 45:09Speaker 5: And I wanted them to feel important. And so that
- 45:11Speaker 5: was kind of like my goal that first night especially
- 45:13Speaker 5: was to do that.
- 45:16Speaker 2: I know The Bachelor is going to be listening to
- 45:19Speaker 2: this for multiple reasons. They are going to be tuning
- 45:21Speaker 2: in to listen to these breakdowns, which is great. We're
- 45:24Speaker 2: here to promote an incredible season of The Bachelor. Do
- 45:27Speaker 2: nothing more than that. But I do think you're touching
- 45:31Speaker 2: on what I have, at least in your case, figured
- 45:35Speaker 2: out what makes a good Bachelor.
- 45:37Speaker 4: You have to have the confidence, one, to be the bachelor.
- 45:40Speaker 2: Because when you have the confidence, you also have the
- 45:42Speaker 2: ability to not make it about you. Because you know
- 45:46Speaker 2: no matter what, you're going to be the one on
- 45:47Speaker 2: TV the whole time. And your desire to get to
- 45:51Speaker 2: know the women and actually get to know them, ask
- 45:54Speaker 2: them questions, stay curious, dive into what makes them tick
- 45:57Speaker 2: and what makes them angry is I think brings out
- 46:01Speaker 2: not only the emotional side of the show, but it
- 46:03Speaker 2: brings out a transparency in the show that the viewers
- 46:06Speaker 2: can say, I like her or I don't. And I
- 46:09Speaker 2: like him or I don't, but at least they know.
- 46:12Speaker 2: And at least they have the information that's needed. And
- 46:13Speaker 2: you did a great job of that with an authenticity
- 46:17Speaker 2: and an intentionality that I think made it, it popped
- 46:20Speaker 2: off the screen.
- 46:21Speaker 4: You were yourself. which we love. We love Bob.
- 46:24Speaker 3: Come on, it's Bob. Thanks, buddy.
- 46:26Speaker 2: But there was an intentionality to how you dealt with
- 46:29Speaker 2: the dating scenarios that I found fascinating.
- 46:33Speaker 4: You cared.
- 46:34Speaker 2: And you didn't just care because it was going to
- 46:35Speaker 2: make you look good on TV. You cared because it
- 46:38Speaker 2: was going to bring out the most out of everybody
- 46:40Speaker 2: and probably give you the best chance of finding love.
- 46:42Speaker 2: And I think that right there is the key to
- 46:44Speaker 2: finding a good bachelor. So bachelor, if you're listening, find
- 46:47Speaker 2: somebody that has the confidence to but also the desire
- 46:51Speaker 2: to not make it about themselves.
- 46:54Speaker 4: Bob, as we wrap.
- 46:55Speaker 2: Episodes one through three, we've gone through a lot, and
- 46:57Speaker 2: obviously there's the details in between and all that. And
- 47:01Speaker 2: so I do encourage everybody to go back and watch
- 47:03Speaker 2: on Tubi, episodes one through three or one through six,
- 47:07Speaker 2: whatever you want to do, binge it, and then write
- 47:09Speaker 2: us in with your questions, maybe on individual moments that
- 47:13Speaker 2: stand out to you or confusing moments. You're like, I
- 47:15Speaker 2: need to know more criticisms or praises for Bob. as
- 47:19Speaker 2: we walk through his season together here on the Almost
- 47:22Speaker 2: Famous Podcast. So go back and watch it. We have
- 47:24Speaker 2: talked about, in an overview, the women, the limo entrances,
- 47:29Speaker 2: night one, the group dates. But I do want to
- 47:31Speaker 2: dive in as we close up here.
- 47:33Speaker 4: On one one-on-one date.
- 47:35Speaker 2: It's very ironic that Meredith Phillips, who we later saw
- 47:40Speaker 2: become the Bachelorette, was asked on a one-on-one date, your
- 47:45Speaker 2: first one-on-one date of the season, a few hours after
- 47:48Speaker 2: her grandmother passed away and she found out about it.
- 47:52Speaker 2: Is there any backstory to that? Was that just random?
- 47:55Speaker 2: Was that planned?
- 47:57Speaker 3: At the time?
- 47:58Speaker 5: I mean, you know, uh, nothing was like, I didn't
- 48:03Speaker 5: really even know until I was on my way to the,
- 48:07Speaker 5: as I recall, I, maybe I have this wrong, but, um,
- 48:11Speaker 5: it was more like random a little bit as to
- 48:13Speaker 5: who was on the group dates, who was on the
- 48:15Speaker 5: individual dates and things of that nature. And, um, I
- 48:18Speaker 5: remember heading over to the house to pick up Meredith and, um,
- 48:25Speaker 5: finding out that her grandma, her grandma had passed.
- 48:29Speaker 4: And, um, I.
- 48:31Speaker 3: Remember thinking my immediate thought was she needs to go home,
- 48:34Speaker 3: you know?
- 48:35Speaker 5: And, um, and so I remember saying that to her,
- 48:39Speaker 5: you know, I remember saying, um, you know, Meredith, I
- 48:41Speaker 5: think you need to go home. And, um, I remember
- 48:45Speaker 5: her saying, you know, my, no, my, my, my grandma
- 48:47Speaker 5: would want me to stay. And I'm like, your grandma
- 48:50Speaker 5: would want you to stay on a weird dating game show.
- 48:55Speaker 3: You don't even know the guy. Like, are you sure?
- 48:57Speaker 5: Cause I was like, you know, if my grandma dies,
- 48:59Speaker 5: I'm going home and I don't care what happens, you know? And, um, I,
- 49:04Speaker 5: I just remember thinking when she, when she basically indicated
- 49:08Speaker 5: to me that there was no talking her out.
- 49:10Speaker 3: Of it, she was gonna stay.
- 49:11Speaker 5: That I was like, okay, well, then I'm going to,
- 49:15Speaker 5: I'm going to make sure we have a really wonderful time. And,
- 49:18Speaker 5: but I remember getting emotional about it because I was
- 49:20Speaker 5: already missing my family. And, you know, the way this had,
- 49:23Speaker 5: had worked out for me was I was gone doing
- 49:25Speaker 5: the bachelorette for quite some time. Then in between there,
- 49:28Speaker 5: I was doing all this other stuff that was new
- 49:32Speaker 5: and exciting and different. And, um, You know, and much
- 49:36Speaker 5: to what you said, I mean, I remember saying to
- 49:37Speaker 5: people like, you know, I think the bachelor, whoever they
- 49:39Speaker 5: make the next bachelor needs to know it's not about him.
- 49:41Speaker 5: You know, it's it's about a bunch of gorgeous women
- 49:44Speaker 5: who have never lost anything being in a room.
- 49:46Speaker 3: And he's he's handing out flowers. Right. I mean, it's
- 49:49Speaker 3: not really about this dude, you know. And then they
- 49:51Speaker 3: made me the dude, you know.
- 49:52Speaker 5: But I remember thinking that and I remember in that moment, really,
- 49:57Speaker 5: it was very sobering for me. Like, I was just like, oh,
- 50:00Speaker 5: my God, like, I can't believe you're staying. And now
- 50:04Speaker 5: I really have to make sure we have a special time,
- 50:08Speaker 5: you know? And I know they had told me ahead
- 50:11Speaker 5: of time. And again, at this point, you know, I'm, I'm,
- 50:14Speaker 5: I'm basically acting like I planned the whole day, you know?
- 50:18Speaker 5: So I'm like, Oh, we're going to go do this
- 50:19Speaker 5: amazing thing. We're going to ride horses down a beach.
- 50:22Speaker 5: And she's like, yeah, I don't really like her.
- 50:25Speaker 4: And I'm like, what?
- 50:26Speaker 5: And then I'm like, and then we're going to come
- 50:28Speaker 5: up on this sandcastle that I made, which I totally did.
- 50:31Speaker 3: Not make clearly.
- 50:32Speaker 4: Cause I mean, it is, Yeah, it is nice.
- 50:35Speaker 5: It's like they clearly handled like a general contractor to
- 50:37Speaker 5: come in and throw this thing together.
- 50:39Speaker 3: And then I'm going to pull.
- 50:40Speaker 5: This basket of steaming seafood out of the beach that
- 50:44Speaker 5: I've been, I've been, you know, marinating and baking for hours.
- 50:47Speaker 3: And she's like, yeah, I don't want to eat that.
- 50:49Speaker 3: I don't like oysters.
- 50:51Speaker 5: And I remember saying this and I remember going, because
- 50:53Speaker 5: I'm clearly mic'd and everything, but I don't have an
- 50:55Speaker 5: IFBN or anything like that.
- 50:56Speaker 3: There's no earpieces back then. Not that they didn't have them,
- 50:59Speaker 3: but they just didn't use them.
- 51:00Speaker 5: But I remember saying, oh, So clearly you guys got
- 51:03Speaker 5: to know Meredith before planning this date.
- 51:05Speaker 3: She hates her. I'm like, what is she allergic to
- 51:07Speaker 3: sand too?
- 51:07Speaker 5: Is that we're going to, you know, and, uh, and
- 51:09Speaker 5: she's laughing, you know, and I'm, but I remember having
- 51:12Speaker 5: like this really nice time with her. I didn't remember
- 51:15Speaker 5: how emotional I got though. We're talking about her grandmother until, uh,
- 51:20Speaker 5: you know, until I was.
- 51:21Speaker 3: Watching it back.
- 51:21Speaker 4: I was like, Oh my God.
- 51:22Speaker 3: You know, I, cause it, it affected me the same
- 51:25Speaker 3: way watching it. Like I was like, Oh geez.
- 51:27Speaker 5: You know? And you know, I, I, I can honestly say,
- 51:30Speaker 5: you know, um, that I'm you know I've had different
- 51:36Speaker 5: versions of my memory on this date with her over
- 51:39Speaker 5: the years and I and I will say that watching
- 51:41Speaker 5: it back I think it was really nice that she
- 51:44Speaker 5: stayed and I think it was a situation where maybe
- 51:47Speaker 5: I wouldn't have stayed personally I probably would have gone
- 51:50Speaker 5: home frankly but I I did appreciate getting to know
- 51:55Speaker 5: her and getting to know more about her in that
- 51:56Speaker 5: moment and I think you know we were both allowing
- 51:59Speaker 5: ourselves to be really vulnerable you know um Cause I was,
- 52:03Speaker 5: I think up until that point, I kind of been
- 52:04Speaker 5: a robot, you.
- 52:05Speaker 3: Know, I'm like, I'm going to get through this world
- 52:08Speaker 3: ceremony or whatever. And I think realizing how tired I
- 52:12Speaker 3: already was in the process.
- 52:14Speaker 5: And I think realizing that someone cared enough to stay
- 52:18Speaker 5: when they really didn't know me that well and, you know,
- 52:22Speaker 5: giving it a chance, you know, I was appreciative of that.
- 52:25Speaker 2: Again, it's one of those moments. Goodness, we're only three
- 52:28Speaker 2: episodes in where all of a sudden reality hits the
- 52:32Speaker 2: like you said, crazy dating show that has changed us forever.
- 52:37Speaker 3: Forever.
- 52:37Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 52:37Speaker 3: And I owe the show a lot.
- 52:39Speaker 5: I can say I owe the show a tremendous amount,
- 52:42Speaker 5: but I think for me watching back these first three
- 52:45Speaker 5: episodes and watching again, seeing my mom and dad and
- 52:49Speaker 5: knowing how the last several years have been with them.
- 52:52Speaker 3: Um, I'm so thankful.
- 52:55Speaker 5: Yeah. So thankful that I said yes, that I did
- 52:59Speaker 5: it when I didn't think I wanted to. And, uh,
- 53:03Speaker 5: If for nothing else, that video diary of my life
- 53:08Speaker 5: right there, that little snap, you know, it's pretty special
- 53:11Speaker 5: for me.
- 53:23Speaker 2: I think anybody that goes back and watches this will
- 53:25Speaker 2: have the same reaction to your mom. she walks in
- 53:29Speaker 2: with a, like a confidence and a beauty and a grace.
- 53:32Speaker 2: And also she almost walks in and you're like, Oh no,
- 53:36Speaker 2: like she's going to lay the hammer down. And then
- 53:38Speaker 2: you have these conversations, like she did the opposite.
- 53:41Speaker 3: Like she is as sweet.
- 53:44Speaker 5: I knew she would be that way, but I was
- 53:46Speaker 5: also kind of like, part of me was like, Oh God,
- 53:48Speaker 5: you know, and it was a surprise to me, you know,
- 53:52Speaker 5: like I knew they were going to have her there
- 53:54Speaker 5: at some point.
- 53:55Speaker 3: I just didn't know it was the first night.
- 53:56Speaker 5: Right. And, Um, and she came in, you're right. She
- 53:59Speaker 5: came in with just this pizzazz about her. And, you know,
- 54:03Speaker 5: I got to talk to my sister about it too.
- 54:04Speaker 5: And here, you know, yeah, we stayed at this really
- 54:07Speaker 5: beautiful hotel and they sent a woman over to do
- 54:09Speaker 5: mom's makeup. And my, and like, much like you said
- 54:12Speaker 5: about your mom, you know, my mom was like, oh
- 54:14Speaker 5: my goodness, you know, and just get your makeup done.
- 54:16Speaker 5: And they, they, they brought a couple of dresses for her.
- 54:19Speaker 5: And I think it was Carrie Fetman's first season on
- 54:22Speaker 5: the show actually was my, I mean, there again, I think,
- 54:25Speaker 5: cause they thought I really needed it desperately. Uh, But,
- 54:28Speaker 5: you know, he was there and he brought her some
- 54:30Speaker 5: dresses to try on and she looked lovely.
- 54:33Speaker 3: And, you know, yeah, it was just it was really cool.
- 54:37Speaker 5: I got to say, I watched that part probably two
- 54:40Speaker 5: or three times, you know, just to kind of drink
- 54:42Speaker 5: it all in, you know.
- 54:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 54:45Speaker 2: Final question for you, Bob. Canyon, Jessica, your wife, is
- 54:51Speaker 2: probably watching at least some of this back with you,
- 54:53Speaker 2: depending on where you're at when you're watching it. Do
- 54:55Speaker 2: you think she's sitting there in her seat, just falling
- 54:58Speaker 2: more madly in love with you?
- 55:03Speaker 3: That is really funny.
- 55:10Speaker 5: You know, honestly, I think it's funny because, you know,
- 55:14Speaker 5: even if she were, she sure as hell not letting
- 55:17Speaker 5: on to me. I mean, she's just like, you know,
- 55:19Speaker 5: everything these women, I mean, because I got to tell you,
- 55:22Speaker 5: I know I must not have really watched my season
- 55:26Speaker 5: because I didn't realize people said such nice things about me.
- 55:29Speaker 5: I was like, I'm watching it going, Oh my gosh,
- 55:31Speaker 5: like that's one of the nicest things anyone's ever said.
- 55:34Speaker 5: And she's just sitting there going, Oh, you know, I mean,
- 55:37Speaker 5: and we asked, we actually found, um, and then this is,
- 55:41Speaker 5: this is two years ago and it was only for
- 55:43Speaker 5: a brief period of time, uh, that my season was on,
- 55:46Speaker 5: I think it was on to be at that time,
- 55:47Speaker 5: but it was very, very brief. And, um, she put
- 55:51Speaker 5: it on as like a joke in front of the
- 55:52Speaker 5: boys and, And man, was it confusing for them, right?
- 55:56Speaker 3: Blake was four, Grayson was six. And they're like, who
- 56:00Speaker 3: are you kissing all these women? And it was like
- 56:02Speaker 3: the sizzle of my season. And I'm like, turn it off,
- 56:05Speaker 3: you know? I'm like losing my mind. I'm like, I
- 56:07Speaker 3: don't want them to see this, you know? And, you know,
- 56:10Speaker 3: that was actually really funny.
- 56:11Speaker 5: No, I don't think she's realized just yet how special.
- 56:19Speaker 2: How lucky she is. Yeah, how lucky she is. I
- 56:22Speaker 2: hope she listens to this. And realizes and sits in
- 56:26Speaker 2: bed at night and just realizes how lucky she is
- 56:28Speaker 2: that she gets to lay beside Bachelor Bob.
- 56:31Speaker 5: I don't think that time will ever come. But, you know,
- 56:35Speaker 5: let's hope she listens. She would definitely listen to you, Ben,
- 56:38Speaker 5: before she listened to me. So hopefully she hears your
- 56:40Speaker 5: words and it really sinks in.
- 56:42Speaker 2: She's a lucky lady. But so are you, Bob. Hey,
- 56:45Speaker 2: we are going to be back breaking down. episodes four, five,
- 56:49Speaker 2: and six. This is a lot of fun for us
- 56:51Speaker 2: because we are reminiscing and rewinding not only what The
- 56:55Speaker 2: Bachelor was like, but also some iconic seasons with some
- 56:59Speaker 2: iconic people. Bob is one of my favorite humans to
- 57:02Speaker 2: ever walk this earth. So this is a lot of
- 57:04Speaker 2: fun for me just to go back through and watch.
- 57:06Speaker 2: But I also recommend you watching it because it is
- 57:08Speaker 2: a great season. Bob is a tremendous lead. His women
- 57:11Speaker 2: are fantastic and charismatic. They have a lot of personality
- 57:14Speaker 2: and they're beautiful. In fact, in the Words of Mike Fleiss,
- 57:17Speaker 2: we cast because one of the most important reasons is
- 57:20Speaker 2: because they look good by the pool, which was a
- 57:24Speaker 2: wild thing to say. I said a.
- 57:26Speaker 3: Lot of wild things back then.
- 57:29Speaker 2: But we will be recapping it here. You can go
- 57:30Speaker 2: back and watch it just like we are on Tubi,
- 57:33Speaker 2: episodes four, five, and six coming out next week. Also,
- 57:36Speaker 2: Bob and I are going to be on the Bachelor
- 57:39Speaker 2: Nation reunion cruise together. Yes. Uh, that is, uh, Bob
- 57:44Speaker 2: actually was one of the big selling points to me saying, Hey, yeah,
- 57:46Speaker 2: I'll do this.
- 57:47Speaker 3: I think I called you first and I was like,
- 57:49Speaker 3: are you doing it?
- 57:50Speaker 4: Are you doing it? Yeah.
- 57:52Speaker 2: If we're going to get to do this, we're going
- 57:53Speaker 2: to get to do it together. And so stories will
- 57:55Speaker 2: be told. Laughter will be shared. Uh, and we're going
- 57:58Speaker 2: to be there hanging out with so many, and we're
- 58:01Speaker 2: also going to be recording some stuff along the way. So, Hey,
- 58:04Speaker 2: stay tuned to the almost famous thread. We've got a
- 58:06Speaker 2: lot of stuff out there. Good stuff for you. Even
- 58:09Speaker 2: though the bachelor is nowhere to be seen right now, uh,
- 58:12Speaker 2: doesn't mean we aren't. We are right here in front
- 58:14Speaker 2: of you doing cool stuff. Hey, we'll be back next week.
- 58:17Speaker 4: Bob, you're the best.
- 58:18Speaker 2: Can't wait to keep breaking this down with you.
- 58:20Speaker 3: I love you, buddy. Thank you.
- 58:21Speaker 4: I love you, man.
