- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: I suggest you do that.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_00]: All right, let's get into it.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, we'll take your questions in the second half of the show, but in the first half of this show, I'm just going to give you a little overview of what we have going on the team right now.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody wants to talk about Malik Wallace, but I'll be completely honest with you when you watch the All 22.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_00]: You watch the All 22 and
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's not so much that it's about Malik Wallace.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_00]: He's like the victim of some of the things that are going on with this offense.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: He's also having his own issues and I'll give you the issues all around.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, they have a right tackle, and I'm going to list them for you, in no particular order.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_00]: They have a right tackle in Austin Jackson, who is just having a horrific season.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean horrific.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_00]: There are games so far this season, they've played five games, they're all in five.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_00]: There are games where you can't find a redeeming rep in the entire game like are there are there instances where he's kind of doing his job and he's not hurting the team?
- 3:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_00]: Are there instances where he's actually flat out hurting the team five out of six naps?
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and that's something that we saw against the chiefs.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_00]: It's something that we saw this past week as well.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_00]: He goes on these long stretches where he just completely lost.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: Now, some of his issues are directly correlated to Malik Wallace.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_00]: As far as the rest of the outfits of lines, some of these guys have had their issues.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: For the most part, the rest of them have been actually pretty decent.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_00]: Now I'll tell you where Malik Wallace is hurting this offense.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, he is a little late on some of his throws on on some of his reads, but his main issue is his footwork.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_00]: And it's not his footwork on delivery of the football.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's his footwork, marrying to the routes that he that they're running for him.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_00]: If you noticed, rep before half time with the last game, he got into a little bit of rhythm and everybody's thinking right away because nobody wants to actually watch the alt 22.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody just likes
- 4:17[SPEAKER_00]: So everybody just thinks, oh, you know, it's, you know, it's, you know, you're going up against like a prevent defense, so it's easy not necessarily, okay, the, the Bengals were running their, their regular defense, the same defense that was stopping him for the most part in the entire first half, the same defense that had the two interceptions against the one completion, okay.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_00]: The only difference was that the dolphins were employing a quick game.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: There were throwing quick passes.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: Now, why did they have some success there?
- 4:45[SPEAKER_00]: Because every quarterback knows where you're dropping on the quick game because that ball has to be out.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_00]: So it's essentially snap 1, 2, 3, throw, 1, 2, 3, throw.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: It's so rhythmic that it's almost impossible to screw up.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: Now, when you have level throws, when you have double outs, or you have a scissors concept, or you have a 3 by 1 set, and you're running a flood, and things have to be timed up, now it's a little bit different, because now you're building in, sometimes you're building in a hitch, and you're actually taught to have the hitch before you move on to the next throw, because that's going to time you from one route to the other.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: If you watch his feet, they just don't make any sense with the play call that's being run.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_00]: Now, you get to the wide receivers and now the wide receivers are also running at the wrong depth as well.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: And then you have the design and you have all these condensed formations that are not essentially really making it anywhere.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: They seem to have no rhyme or reason.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_00]: There was actually one rep and somebody posted it.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_00]: I forgot who was it that posted it.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_00]: That little bunch formation through by once that.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: And the three guys all bumped into each other.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_00]: Like that's a joke.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like that's.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's embarrassing.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like high school teams don't do that.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: But this team has managed to do that.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_00]: So you can tell when an offense or a defense is poorly coached and this offense seems to be as of right now, a very poorly coached.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_00]: And Malik Willis is being done no favors by the coaching and he's not doing any favors for himself.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes you just gotta know these things.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: And if he doesn't, then it's not going to be a long tenure here for Malik Wallace.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_00]: So his footwork has to be worked out, especially marrying the footwork to the play called, which is just a complete mess as of right now.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_00]: physically, you know, he has pretty much everything you can need.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: But the brain game is just not there right now.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: And you couple that with receivers that are running the wrong depth, receivers that
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: don't know how to time up their combinations, receivers that run double outs or they corner outs and they're running them at the wrong depth.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: So when the quarterback is back there to pass and he's at the bottom of his drop and he looks out to that combination, it looks odd because players are essentially standing next to each other, which has happened several times.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_00]: Like, they ran a double out where Chris Bell and Kevin Coleman were three yards apart, and the culprit was kind of obvious, because you could see Chris Bell's at 16 yards and somehow Kevin Coleman is drifting toward Chris Bell and closing the distance between him and Chris Bell, which is essentially he's bringing another defender into the play, and essentially causing an interception if it gets thrown that way.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_00]: He has to run that pattern at eight yards.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_00]: There has to be at least eight yards of separation in between the guys But he was just drawing his guy in So if there was somebody who was the most guilty as of right now, I'll say it's Kevin Coleman and I like him.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's gonna be a good player for this team, but man There's ever a case for doubling the amount of practices for training camp
- 8:37[SPEAKER_00]: it's this, and I understand essentially training camp, no matter if it reaches into July, because they start like what July 28th, some teams start on July 28th, and Woopy, it reaches the end of August, and it makes it seem like it's longer, it's not, it's 18 practices, it's nothing.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: up to me and look, it's not up to me because the NFOPA is the one who has to approve all of this stuff.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: You need to almost double the amount of practices, it needs to be a 36 practices.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: I know they have a four day or week practice schedule.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think you could go to a five day or week practice schedule and maybe even go six on one off for the duration until you get to the to the preseason games and then you go then you can go four on and three off if you want.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_00]: And if you do that, you could reach into maybe 24, but I just go straight to the 36 and just start training camp the week after the 4th of July.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_00]: And if that sounds crazy, don't think it is because that's the way it used to be.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_00]: It used to be like that in the 80s and 90s.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_00]: They used to have three days in the 70s.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: They had two days in the 80s and 90s.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not crazy.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: So how about two days?
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: How about bringing back two days?
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: it's something I will consider doing because these guys are just not ready to play football and you could see it in the product for the first four weeks of the regular season young players second year players they for the most part they looked lost all right very briefly i'm going to give you something on on the defense uh Kenneth Grant important stretch here for him as he comes back from injury it's going to have to play well uh
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: this regime did not draft him.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: So the evaluators are harshly I believe for the rest of the season and there is no loyalty going forward.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: So, if they'll seek a replacement in the draft, don't think that loyalty will play any role in this.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't play well for the rest of the season, they'll replace them.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_00]: And it'll be a short-lived Dolphins career.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: Cornerbacks are doing so well.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: Jason Marshall Jr., jujube Brence, Jr. and of course, Chris Johnson.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think they've been really, really good for weeks on.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_00]: And jujube Brence is having a very, very good season.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_00]: Now, the team's terrible, and when the team's terrible, you're just not going to get recognition.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_00]: But jujube Brence is legitimately playing like one of the best cornerbacks in football.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_00]: So, if he answers to the sea, how that works out for the rest of the season, are they going to extend them?
- 11:30[SPEAKER_00]: Is he going to get a contract next year?
- 11:34[SPEAKER_00]: His injury history may be it's something that the NFL will take into consideration.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: and it just won't be the appeal right there won't be the appeal to commit any guarantee dollars to him going forward.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: But he's a guy who's been noticeable.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: He's a guy that they've obviously hit on and man if they got that figure out you already got two of the three cornerbacks you need as a starting unit.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: Jason Marshall Jr.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: I still have my reservations.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he started quality, but I do think he's high in depth, and That's also a good thing to have.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_00]: So think about where we were before training camp when people looked at the cornerbacks and the second area And they were like, oh my god, this is the worst second area in the history of the sport We're here five weeks later in the regular season and we like a lot of these pieces and we think a lot of these pieces are gonna be pieces That are gonna serve this team going forward
- 12:29[SPEAKER_00]: All right, that's it.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to go to break and when we come back, we will take your questions, but first, these words.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: All right, and I'm back.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_00]: All right, let me take your your questions.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: All right, first question.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: What is Jonas of Ina is status?
- 12:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, all right, he left the the game.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_00]: Look like a foot entry and then you had Jeff Hathley say, oh, he's he's okay But he didn't really elaborate on him.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: I'm told it's something that they're going to look at in He's not practicing this week by the way I know that they're having some practices this week on their by week.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_00]: He's not practicing this week But it's something that they'll evaluate next week.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it's bad.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it's long term But we shall see
- 13:18[SPEAKER_00]: How to kind of grant look in this game, I thought he looked bad in this game, he looked like he's looked his worst moments for the last, you know, one and one game, it's one point one season.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_00]: his worst moments, they kind of reared their ugly head again in that game against the Bengals.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't think he looked very good in the game.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of disheartening to be honest with you.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_00]: But we shall see it.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's early.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_00]: He's coming off of an entry.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_00]: We shall see.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_00]: They piloted Jet's next week.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_00]: Let's see how he bounces back.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_00]: Remember I had a very high evaluation of Kenneth Grant coming out of Michigan so we shall see What's your assessment of CJ so far meaning Chris Johnson while arrow up?
- 14:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's really really good Since that radar game really like the radar game.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he was bad in the radar game since that radar game
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: He started getting steadier and steadier until you got to the Kansas City game against the chiefs.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_00]: He was just damn near good against the Vikings.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_00]: He was really good and he was damn near great last week against the Bengals.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's been really, really good and had the punch out last week as well.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_00]: Be interested to see if we've started making a little bit a few more plays.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_00]: Also look at the competition going forward.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_00]: I want to see what he's going to be up against.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to be a fun guy to isolate on the film these coming weeks.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, arrow up.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_00]: I'm pretty excited with with what we're seeing with Chris Johnson.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: He's been as advertised and maybe a little bit better than advertised.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_00]: Next question, how had Paul, how has Paul, Patrick Paul, and Kate and Proctor look well, Kate and Proctor has that very, very high high ceiling and trajectory right now like I would like if you told me Kate and Proctor was going to be in all pro, I kind of believe you
- 15:31[SPEAKER_00]: he's just so strong in past pro and we know he's a giant man so he's going to move people in the wrong game.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_00]: He had some reps against Dexter Lawrence that were just impressive.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_00]: Patrick Paul having a tough time with Malik Wallace because Malik Wallace does tackles no favor.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_00]: from hash to hash it's six yards.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_00]: There's a little bit of math involved here.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_00]: Okay?
- 15:56[SPEAKER_00]: From tackle a tackle, the splits are usually within six yards.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so that's five guys six yards.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_00]: Do the math.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_00]: Each guy takes up if it's if it's five guys, you're taking up from left through right because you start on the front, right?
- 16:11[SPEAKER_00]: So you turn about six yards.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_00]: So each guy takes
- 16:15[SPEAKER_00]: right, which means that you're divving up the other 36 inches for the splits between the B gap and the A gap.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_00]: So we're talking about four gaps, 36 inches, four gaps, 36 inches.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_00]: We're talking about eight inches.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_00]: So get a ruler.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_00]: Look at the ruler.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_00]: Mark off eight inches.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_00]: That's how far apart the right foot of the left tackle is to the left foot of the left guard.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_00]: You can increase those splits up to 12.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_00]: There are teams that you 16.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_00]: Dolphins, uh,
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen them change it up a little bit, especially depending on the play call.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_00]: So sometimes they're going a little wider, but think about it in this respect.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_00]: If the quarterback is getting too much depth,
- 17:14[SPEAKER_00]: you're putting a lot of pressure on those tackles, and Patrick Paul is sometimes, and trust me when I tell you, the guards don't.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_00]: The guards all they listen to is, oh okay, it's a pass play.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_00]: All right, I kind of know what I have to do.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: I know who I have to pass off to.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_00]: I knew who I have to block.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_00]: If there's a stunt, if there's a blitz, I know where I'm going with this so they kind of know they're assignment and then they're listening for oh it's a run call.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I know what I have to do as well The tackles are different tackles got to listen to both and it's not so simple for them On past place on past place.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_00]: They're listening to the past play and in their mind they know already Okay, I know what the drop is
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: If they know the play call, they know where Malik is going.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_00]: If it's a three step drop, they know how they have to block for a three step drop.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_00]: If it's a full drop back, they know how they have to block for that.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_00]: If Malik will as crosses you up, you've got an issue.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's been happening to Patrick Paul a little bit.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_00]: that next question.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_00]: What's Jayrod's ceiling look like?
- 18:30[SPEAKER_00]: Well, the ceiling is perennial all pro Jordan Brooks like.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_00]: He's a really, really good player.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_00]: Could we be here two years from now, three years from now?
- 18:43[SPEAKER_00]: And football analysts will call Jacob Rodriguez the best interior
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think that that's something that you can see happening.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, the ceiling is way, way, way, way high.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, who's the best third day guys so far and why?
- 19:06[SPEAKER_00]: Third day guy, obviously has to be Michael Taff, right?
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, guys a starter.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_00]: He's calling signals for the secondary.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_00]: He's been really, really good.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_00]: So, and Kevin Coleman, man, he's had some screwups.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like, and a couple of the other guys we haven't seen play.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_00]: We haven't seen Kahloos play.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_00]: We haven't seen more play yet.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, Michael Taff is the as been the best third day guy by four.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_00]: Next question, still up on Malik or what take for you to want a toss and okay, what would it take for me to want a toss Malik well as well?
- 19:51[SPEAKER_00]: 17 games I do believe is a big enough sample to figure things out and if they don't I would want the offensive coordinator replaced the quarterback's coach replaced
- 20:04[SPEAKER_00]: Possibly the wide receiver's coaches, if they keep having these screw ups replaced, I would keep the offensive line coach and that staff intact is assistance.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_00]: I would keep all that intact.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of want to have some continuity on the offensive line, but if they're a disaster after 17 games, like they currently are in the passing game,
- 20:34[SPEAKER_00]: Next question asked and vet it but can a Jeremiah Smith truly help a team truly significantly change their success like transformatively can a wide receiver really do that and how yeah it happens all the time especially for care you know for a prospect like a Jeremiah Smith
- 20:53[SPEAKER_00]: Remember players change coverages as well, change how teams perceive you and how they defend you.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_00]: And sometimes perception and how they defend is what's going to change things for you, going forward, even with the same person now.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_00]: Next question.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_00]: Are you amused at the amount of commentators online who are pretending they're surprised and angry by am I?
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: I mean start to the season.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, very amused.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_00]: Like they didn't already know based on the structure.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like if anything, you should be kind of excited that through Owen 5, a lot of these rookies are looking pretty damn good.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_00]: Like they look like they're close to winning a game.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_00]: That's a good thing.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_00]: If you just hopeless everything
- 21:38[SPEAKER_00]: what's happening to the charges?
- 21:40[SPEAKER_00]: A bad thing.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_00]: What's happening to the Titans?
- 21:43[SPEAKER_00]: A bad thing.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_00]: What's happening to the dolphins?
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: None is certainly a bad thing.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_00]: Next question, do you expect the return of Caleb Douglas to change out Slavic lines them up?
- 21:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_00]: He's in, uh, uh, it seems like Caleb Douglas and Malik wash the turn of the only guys who truly get primaries in Playcalls because Chris Bells essentially could be ignored by Bobby Slavic.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_00]: which I don't understand.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_00]: You give him an end round.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_00]: The same way you give him an end around you designed to run for him.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_00]: You could design past his form.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_00]: You could throw him screens.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_00]: There's plenty of things you could do with Chris Ball.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_00]: They have him essentially just running routes into nowhere land.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_00]: Because he's more of an Alka and he continues before he's more of an X than anyone else does that increase the chances of lining up outside the numbers for once Yes, I think that's something that you will see once killed Douglas comes back and but it's also a problem.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_00]: If Bobby slow it Needs everybody to be completely healthy from the call offense.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_00]: That's going to be effective.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_00]: Then we got an issue.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_00]: ah next question seems like we're trying to throw along the small guys to open run in short game but no short game what's with the short screens and checkdowns or design short passes to space or to speed okay that was a mouthful
- 23:11[SPEAKER_00]: He's essentially asking, you know, where are the the short screens or the check-downs?
- 23:18[SPEAKER_00]: Look, the check-downs, they're pretty much built-in into every play call.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_00]: So they're there.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_00]: Then he was also asking, you know, where are the design short passes to space or to speed?
- 23:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_00]: I just mentioned that.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, hopefully we get to see that coming out of the bike.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be return next week.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_00]: No, because next week you get two three archbickaries because we're back into our into our rhythm into our schedule.
