- 2:10Speaker 3: are here to talk about a very mellenated show and
- 2:14Speaker 3: something a lot of us have been waiting a long
- 2:16Speaker 3: time for and wondering why Marvel was not doing their
- 2:18Speaker 3: damn just to promote it. Iron Hart is finally out.
- 2:23Speaker 3: If you have not seen the first three episodes, I
- 2:26Speaker 3: highly encourage you to pause this episode right here go
- 2:31Speaker 3: watch them, because we're gonna be talking about everything. It's
- 2:34Speaker 3: be pure spoilers from here on out, so please make
- 2:38Speaker 3: sure you've seen all three episodes that are now out
- 2:41Speaker 3: on Disney Plus before we go any further. So, first off, Jay,
- 2:47Speaker 3: what did you think of it?
- 2:48Speaker 2: You know overall?
- 2:50Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, let's just get it, let's get it started.
- 2:55Speaker 1: All right, okay, all right, all right, all right. So
- 2:57Speaker 1: I came into it with a chip on my shoulder
- 3:00Speaker 1: because it hasn't been enough add attention, it hasn't been
- 3:03Speaker 1: enough marketing. Okay, we was all hyped for this, after
- 3:07Speaker 1: Wakonda forever. We was hyped. I was excited, and yeah,
- 3:12Speaker 1: I came in with a chip off on my shoulder,
- 3:14Speaker 1: ready to fucking like love it, ready to rant and
- 3:18Speaker 1: rave about it, ready to promote it. And I watched
- 3:21Speaker 1: it and it was a lot of good stuff in there,
- 3:26Speaker 1: and then there was a lot of stuff in there
- 3:27Speaker 1: where I was like, oh, okay, you know that that
- 3:31Speaker 1: It was like, okay, Like, I don't know. I'm sure
- 3:33Speaker 1: there's a bunch of different reasons why it was not
- 3:37Speaker 1: marketed and promoted in the way that we have seen
- 3:39Speaker 1: other Marvel properties and shows promoted in the past. So
- 3:43Speaker 1: there's that. I'm sure there's a little bit of that
- 3:45Speaker 1: racism mixed up in there.
- 3:47Speaker 2: That's a given.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Also, it might be some other stuff. It might be
- 3:53Speaker 1: some other some other you know, I don't know, I
- 3:57Speaker 1: don't know. It might be some other stuff in there.
- 3:59Speaker 1: It might be some other stuf up in there other
- 4:00Speaker 1: than racism, other than racism, other than sexism, other than well,
- 4:05Speaker 1: you know what. That's a sleeper pill, so I don't.
- 4:08Speaker 3: I don't know Ilved, you know, both heavily involved.
- 4:12Speaker 1: That's the other thing that makes this tricky. While I'm
- 4:14Speaker 1: like you started off with me, I didn't even get
- 4:15Speaker 1: to think about what my public facing response was going to.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Be to I mean, well, okay, well let's let's do
- 4:20Speaker 2: it easy way.
- 4:21Speaker 3: What were some of the things that you enjoyed about it?
- 4:26Speaker 2: You always like to know that first.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Yeah, and I didn't and I didn't hate it, And
- 4:32Speaker 1: I also want to say, I also want to say,
- 4:34Speaker 1: as a black girl, as a gender queer black girl, right,
- 4:37Speaker 1: black girl, being my connection, very much connection to this show,
- 4:41Speaker 1: I am being amongst us, right amongst us as people
- 4:47Speaker 1: of color.
- 4:48Speaker 4: Here, I am being.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Celebratory of the show. But I feel so like I
- 4:55Speaker 1: was looking forward to it so much and feeling very
- 4:58Speaker 1: protective of it, and also, because of my connection to
- 5:02Speaker 1: it as a black girl, feeling perhaps more critical of
- 5:05Speaker 1: this show than I would be of other shows. And
- 5:07Speaker 1: so I want to be transparent about that. And so
- 5:11Speaker 1: I looked at this close in a way that lots
- 5:15Speaker 1: of other properties I wouldn't look that close. It's like, oh,
- 5:18Speaker 1: this is fun, that's fun, this is fun. That's fun.
- 5:22Speaker 1: But this I was really kind of looking at every
- 5:25Speaker 1: single thing. But anyway, shit that I loved three episodes.
- 5:29Speaker 1: I love the relationship between re Read and Natalie. I
- 5:35Speaker 1: love like that that it's clear that she had such
- 5:39Speaker 1: a wonderful friendship with Natalie. I love all of those
- 5:43Speaker 1: like black girl moments. I love their kind of back
- 5:47Speaker 1: and forth, all of the dynamics between Reread and Natalie.
- 5:51Speaker 1: I love seeing a black girl ai. I love that
- 5:54Speaker 1: dynamic very much. I thought that was really cool obviously.
- 5:58Speaker 1: I love every time that we Read is in the suit.
- 6:01Speaker 1: I love that she's smart. I love that she's swaggy.
- 6:04Speaker 1: I love that we're seeing Cree summer and not just
- 6:06Speaker 1: hearing her voice and a thing. I love that we're
- 6:08Speaker 1: seeing her more lately. I love that she's in this.
- 6:10Speaker 1: I love that she obviously did brought her own clothes okay,
- 6:14Speaker 1: and did her own wardrobe.
- 6:16Speaker 3: I feel like she does that everything. Yeah, because you
- 6:19Speaker 3: did that, she did that on Blackish. I feel yeah,
- 6:22Speaker 3: they don't.
- 6:22Speaker 1: They don't. They don't make hats of that quality for costume. Okay,
- 6:27Speaker 1: those are her personal hats from her personal home. Yeah, yes, yeah,
- 6:32Speaker 1: those are her hats for her when I saw her
- 6:33Speaker 1: wardrobe in this show, I was like, Okay, these are
- 6:36Speaker 1: her personal clothes. Okay, they don't. They don't come this
- 6:38Speaker 1: fly in costume. They just not not for this show.
- 6:41Speaker 1: They just wouldn't. So I love that.
- 6:43Speaker 2: I loved.
- 6:45Speaker 1: What else did I love? I love that it wasn't
- 6:49Speaker 1: a lot of white folks in this show.
- 6:52Speaker 2: I love that.
- 6:53Speaker 1: I love the possibility And I don't know that we
- 6:57Speaker 1: fully got this, but I love the possibility of conflicts
- 7:01Speaker 1: that are like that live and exist in the gray.
- 7:05Speaker 1: And I don't want to, you know, start getting into
- 7:07Speaker 1: like you know what I didn't like or whatever. But
- 7:10Speaker 1: I loved that there seemed to be this positioning of
- 7:13Speaker 1: a dilemma that was greater than like what is actually
- 7:16Speaker 1: good versus evil, Like like sometimes you need to steal
- 7:21Speaker 1: from a corporation that's gentrifying your community, you know what
- 7:23Speaker 1: I'm saying. Like, So I liked I liked the premise,
- 7:29Speaker 1: the setup of that, and I was very obsessed with
- 7:33Speaker 1: clown that was that was her name, the pyrotechnics person.
- 7:38Speaker 1: She's my favorite character in the Whole Shower. Why I
- 7:44Speaker 1: think she the actor she was great at that. It
- 7:48Speaker 1: felt natural, she felt like a real black girl that
- 7:52Speaker 1: I would meet somewhere, and it didn't feel like it
- 7:55Speaker 1: didn't feel like, hey, you're black, I'm black, we're black
- 8:00Speaker 1: acting black in a show where you know, I've seen
- 8:02Speaker 1: that before. I've seen that before. And she felt like
- 8:05Speaker 1: somebody I could really meet somewhere, you know what I'm saying.
- 8:08Speaker 1: She felt like the stuff that she was saying because
- 8:10Speaker 1: some of it, Yes, this show is very black, but
- 8:13Speaker 1: there were moments where I could hear the script where
- 8:15Speaker 1: I could feel somebody putting in something that sounds black
- 8:19Speaker 1: that we would connect with or whatever. There were like
- 8:21Speaker 1: some moments where I could feel it, you know, and
- 8:23Speaker 1: they were kind of they were a little bit cringe,
- 8:26Speaker 1: but like okay, And with her, a lot of her
- 8:31Speaker 1: she came so natural. I don't know if if it
- 8:34Speaker 1: was just her acting, I don't know, but she felt
- 8:38Speaker 1: like a real person that I would know, like she
- 8:42Speaker 1: was fantastic.
- 8:44Speaker 4: So I really enjoyed.
- 8:46Speaker 1: I really enjoyed her character, and I really enjoyed her code.
- 8:49Speaker 1: She seemed to have an ethical code that I could
- 8:53Speaker 1: feel in touch or whatever. But I'm trying to think
- 8:56Speaker 1: of that that might be later in the that might
- 8:59Speaker 1: be passed episode three when that shows up.
- 9:02Speaker 3: It might be because in this part she says she's
- 9:04Speaker 3: going to open the school and use it to the
- 9:05Speaker 3: front for ball making.
- 9:07Speaker 1: No, well we'll get to that. We'll get to that,
- 9:11Speaker 1: we'll get to that ship. But yeah, her code is
- 9:13Speaker 1: revealed later. I think, yeah, all of their all of
- 9:17Speaker 1: their whatever. What everybody said they was going to do
- 9:19Speaker 1: with their money was a joke. But we'll get to
- 9:21Speaker 1: that later.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Yeah, she comes off as a black Harley Quinn in
- 9:25Speaker 3: terms of, like, at least the terms of level of sanity.
- 9:29Speaker 3: I would say, you know, I didn't.
- 9:31Speaker 1: I didn't get that. I heard you say that before,
- 9:33Speaker 1: and I.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Didn't feel right enamored with blowing things up?
- 9:39Speaker 1: Yes, what else is wrong with her?
- 9:41Speaker 2: Though?
- 9:42Speaker 1: All right, we all have friends who have one thing
- 9:47Speaker 1: about them that's a little bit weird. So she likes
- 9:49Speaker 1: blowing stuff up.
- 9:50Speaker 2: But like I used to, you know, enjoy dating women
- 9:56Speaker 2: like you know?
- 9:57Speaker 3: Of her, I would say, and you know you grow.
- 10:02Speaker 5: Up and you you know you Yeah, the only thing
- 10:06Speaker 5: about her bad I'm not gonna let you do this
- 10:08Speaker 5: is that she uses her ability to set fires for
- 10:12Speaker 5: bad things.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Everything else about her was level.
- 10:15Speaker 2: It's very rare. It was all it was all doing.
- 10:20Speaker 1: There are people who set fires for a living. There
- 10:22Speaker 1: are people who work in movies. There are people who
- 10:24Speaker 1: do all types of strug who set fires on purpose.
- 10:26Speaker 1: There are people who blow up structures to build new structures.
- 10:29Speaker 2: So she could do this as a job.
- 10:31Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying.
- 10:33Speaker 2: We just got tapped.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Yeah, she just got tapped by somebody to do this.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Outside of her blowing up shit, I really there's nothing
- 10:42Speaker 1: else about her personality that seemed off. And I don't
- 10:45Speaker 1: know what this says about me because I'm ready to
- 10:47Speaker 1: go to coffee, Like, where do we kick it? It's
- 10:49Speaker 1: being her We're right or die? Okay, I'm a job.
- 10:53Speaker 1: That's my homegirl. Why are you kidding me? We get
- 10:56Speaker 1: lunch together, we talk about our personal business at work anyway,
- 11:01Speaker 1: all right, Yeah, we.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Have completely different reactions to this. Yeah, back in the day,
- 11:11Speaker 3: it would have been yes.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Now it's I think that you you need to We'll
- 11:16Speaker 1: get back to her because I need you to show
- 11:18Speaker 1: me more evidence. That's something.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Emphasize that.
- 11:20Speaker 4: Ye good time, Like I go to bunch with her? Yeah,
- 11:24Speaker 4: at the day parties.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Okay, there we go day parties.
- 11:27Speaker 3: Right, you write see smart intelligence and then you know
- 11:29Speaker 3: we we do our separate ways at night.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Well because she just got work to do to burn,
- 11:35Speaker 1: you know, right, But nothing else is roll okay, yes, okay.
- 11:40Speaker 6: Uh.
- 11:41Speaker 4: What I liked about her one thing I really liked
- 11:47Speaker 4: and like, I feel like you get more into it
- 11:48Speaker 4: in the second three episodes. But I like that we're
- 11:52Speaker 4: bringing back more magic into the MCU. Like I like
- 11:57Speaker 4: magic stuff, and I've never I've always kind of felt
- 12:00Speaker 4: that like Marvel wasn't really great at doing magic for me,
- 12:03Speaker 4: especially like reading the comics, but lately with like Agatha
- 12:07Speaker 4: and now this, like it's exciting to see how they're
- 12:09Speaker 4: making magic like more interesting. But again you'll see that
- 12:13Speaker 4: more later. But I also really like I like the
- 12:19Speaker 4: characterization of Reread, and I think for me it's because
- 12:23Speaker 4: I've read her comics, like the Vendis comics and eviewings,
- 12:28Speaker 4: and I feel like I just get a lot of
- 12:31Speaker 4: like the essence of who she is, especially in like
- 12:33Speaker 4: eviewings run of her like currently like he's not she
- 12:39Speaker 4: she doesn't like people like and you see that in
- 12:41Speaker 4: the commics, Like she's not she cares about like the
- 12:43Speaker 4: people she fucks with, but like she's about like She's
- 12:46Speaker 4: very goal oriented and she like you know, she loves
- 12:49Speaker 4: her science, and I like that we get that kind
- 12:51Speaker 4: of version of her in the MCU, Like, okay, like
- 12:54Speaker 4: she she has her friends, but like she she's not
- 12:56Speaker 4: out to make friends with everybody.
- 12:59Speaker 2: I'd liked.
- 13:03Speaker 4: I'm really glad to see Shaikula and in this role.
- 13:08Speaker 4: I'm been a big fan of Chasin'ce drag Race, and
- 13:12Speaker 4: you know, I like it and love it that we
- 13:15Speaker 4: have again the little sprinkling of the LGBTQ, and there
- 13:20Speaker 4: there were some subtle things that I really appreciated, like
- 13:23Speaker 4: the fact that they just said their pronouns and it
- 13:26Speaker 4: was us. But again, like with all Marvel things, it's
- 13:31Speaker 4: like you know it's there, but it's not gonna go
- 13:34Speaker 4: really into it. And yeah, I do think the other
- 13:37Speaker 4: thing that I really love about this show is its
- 13:41Speaker 4: exploration of grief, and like I think it's really cool
- 13:47Speaker 4: too of how like we saw reread in Waconda Forever,
- 13:49Speaker 4: which is another like good like expression of like how
- 13:53Speaker 4: people grieve, and so this feels like a like a
- 13:56Speaker 4: like a cousin of Waconda Forever, and the way that
- 13:58Speaker 4: it talks about okay, like this is how well you
- 14:00Speaker 4: know one person experienced grief, but this is how a
- 14:02Speaker 4: different person experiences grief. And I'll talk more about that later,
- 14:06Speaker 4: but yeah, I enjoyed seeing that. It's just like another
- 14:10Speaker 4: way of like, you know, this is how people react
- 14:12Speaker 4: when they lose someone.
- 14:14Speaker 3: That was one of my favorite parts of it was
- 14:17Speaker 3: desperation of grief.
- 14:18Speaker 2: I thought.
- 14:19Speaker 3: One of my favorite lines from the show, or moments
- 14:22Speaker 3: even was when re Read's mother confronts Reread about Natalie,
- 14:30Speaker 3: when you know, finding out that she has this thing Natalie,
- 14:32Speaker 3: and she's like, when you can tell me about first?
- 14:34Speaker 3: I just loved that she said, when you can tell
- 14:35Speaker 3: me about your little friend, and you think that she's
- 14:38Speaker 3: talking about Xavier. Of course I Reread definitely think she's
- 14:41Speaker 3: talked about Xavier. We know that she's talking about Natalie.
- 14:45Speaker 3: But I just loved that moment. And then immediately her
- 14:48Speaker 3: mother's reaction is can you make one of Gary? And
- 14:51Speaker 3: that just broke my heart. And it's this whole thing
- 14:56Speaker 3: that has sent me on where I had to think
- 14:57Speaker 3: about it, like would I want an AI version of
- 15:02Speaker 3: someone that has passed away in my life? And I
- 15:07Speaker 3: don't know, it's really that's that's a very ill philosophical question,
- 15:13Speaker 3: I think, and I think the show, like you said,
- 15:16Speaker 3: like we all know it's Marvel, So they're not gonna
- 15:18Speaker 3: go too deep on these things, you know, for anything,
- 15:22Speaker 3: like they'n I could go too deep on race, and
- 15:24Speaker 3: I could go too deep on gender.
- 15:26Speaker 2: They're not to go too deep on death.
- 15:28Speaker 3: You know, they've already done that, you know, with Waconda Forever,
- 15:31Speaker 3: like you said. But I just thought that was a
- 15:33Speaker 3: very interesting question to ask, and just even if they
- 15:37Speaker 3: just touch on it throughout the series, I think it's
- 15:39Speaker 3: very dope, Like even the idea of re Re wanting
- 15:42Speaker 3: to shut down her Natalie, and you know, Natalie of
- 15:47Speaker 3: course resisting it, but it's just more so because this
- 15:50Speaker 3: is like not just an AI, but just to someone,
- 15:53Speaker 3: an AI that represents.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Someone that you knew and loved. So I really loved
- 15:57Speaker 2: that part about it.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Yeah, that was dope. The answer for me is yes,
- 16:02Speaker 1: I would like an AI of my sister and my
- 16:07Speaker 1: grandma and my other grandma. Yes it sounds like a
- 16:14Speaker 1: bad Yeah, I vote, and it's a bad idea. The
- 16:16Speaker 1: answer for me is yes, we're doing.
- 16:18Speaker 3: I'm still not sure, Like you know, my mom, my dad,
- 16:21Speaker 3: I don't know. You know, I have friends, you know,
- 16:25Speaker 3: my boy Kenny Dallas combat. I would definitely like a
- 16:30Speaker 3: Dallas or combat AI just for the world. I think
- 16:32Speaker 3: the world needs that, you know. Like but then it's like, man,
- 16:37Speaker 3: that guess crowded, right, you know, you know it's like
- 16:44Speaker 3: faml like you know that.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Happened for a reason. You know the world would be crowded, bro, Like,
- 16:49Speaker 2: you know what's tricky for me? You never have peace?
- 16:52Speaker 1: Dog like, well, I don't know, because she put Natalie
- 16:55Speaker 1: in the computer when she felt like it.
- 16:57Speaker 2: You would have to That's what I'm saying. You'd have
- 16:59Speaker 2: to put Yeah, it's.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Trick, you have to write you And then it seemed
- 17:04Speaker 1: like there were times when Natalie was feeling kind of sentient,
- 17:07Speaker 1: like kind of like you know, like what is she
- 17:09Speaker 1: a slave?
- 17:10Speaker 3: Is that that that's desally?
- 17:14Speaker 2: Is Natalie sentient? Right? Right? Right? Right? Like what is sentience?
- 17:18Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 17:19Speaker 3: You know, like these are all questions that you know,
- 17:22Speaker 3: the show's not asking, but then it is asking.
- 17:25Speaker 2: It's like I don't know, you know, like she has.
- 17:29Speaker 7: Memories, she seems to have emotion, yeah, but a lot
- 17:35Speaker 7: of it seemed to come from reread so like yep,
- 17:39Speaker 7: like I put this quote because I remember I recently
- 17:41Speaker 7: watched Waconda Forever because I knew Ironhart was coming out.
- 17:43Speaker 2: I was like, oh, let me.
- 17:44Speaker 4: Like and there's that part where Queen Raymonde's asking me sure,
- 17:53Speaker 4: like what construct does your mind make to like or
- 17:57Speaker 4: like or does it offer you pain? And I was like,
- 18:00Speaker 4: Ruby made a construct of her mom, like Natalie is
- 18:04Speaker 4: AI that came from like her memories and basically like
- 18:07Speaker 4: her her image and idea of Natalie. And I think,
- 18:11Speaker 4: like for me, my answer is like I do think
- 18:13Speaker 4: in a way it could be helpful, Like recently, like
- 18:18Speaker 4: you know this mend, but my grandma passed, and I think,
- 18:21Speaker 4: like the biggest party, thank you, The biggest thing I've
- 18:24Speaker 4: been feeling with like my grief is like not being
- 18:26Speaker 4: able to like tell her things, And so like I
- 18:30Speaker 4: do think like it could be like a cathartic experience
- 18:33Speaker 4: to be able to like tell this AI of like
- 18:36Speaker 4: my lost loved one of like these are the things
- 18:38Speaker 4: that I wanted to tell you, even though, like you know,
- 18:40Speaker 4: they might not be that person, there's still that like
- 18:43Speaker 4: you know that the action and going through the motion
- 18:46Speaker 4: of being able to just talk to your loved one
- 18:47Speaker 4: and say the things that you always wanted to say.
- 18:50Speaker 4: And then like the the thing with Natalie was because
- 18:55Speaker 4: you know she's from she's from re Re, it's going
- 18:58Speaker 4: to respond to re read how like she Snewy would respond.
- 19:01Speaker 4: And so I don't know whether that's good or bad,
- 19:04Speaker 4: because you know, maybe the response isn't exactly what would happen.
- 19:07Speaker 4: But I think just being able to have that experience
- 19:10Speaker 4: might provide like some closure, especially for they think they
- 19:13Speaker 4: said in the show, like we never got a chance
- 19:15Speaker 4: to say goodbye to them, Like she didn't really have that.
- 19:17Speaker 4: I mean, we saw what happened in their death, like
- 19:20Speaker 4: there was no chance to like have a conversation with them.
- 19:22Speaker 4: It just all happened so fast.
- 19:24Speaker 3: I mean, most people don't thought. And that's something And
- 19:28Speaker 3: this is something I've been thinking about a lot lately.
- 19:29Speaker 3: Right Bounty Killer, the Danta Artists, the Legend has a
- 19:34Speaker 3: great One of my favorite songs by him is the
- 19:37Speaker 3: choruses before Them Seek God, Them Seek the Devil, And
- 19:40Speaker 3: I've and it's been in my head a lot lately,
- 19:43Speaker 3: and I think it relates to the show and also
- 19:45Speaker 3: the technology and a lot of things people have been
- 19:47Speaker 3: talked about Lady, like only a lot of things. There's
- 19:50Speaker 3: this idea of the whole simulation theory. Then we live
- 19:54Speaker 3: in a simulation that's created by a super advanced, high
- 19:58Speaker 3: power computer somewhere that's being run by aliens or who
- 20:02Speaker 3: knows what, and you know, everything we know is just
- 20:05Speaker 3: part of that.
- 20:07Speaker 2: And that to me and.
- 20:09Speaker 3: This psch idea of well, okay, I can have a
- 20:13Speaker 3: you know, I get it. I get the idea of
- 20:15Speaker 3: having an AI someone I love or missed. But at
- 20:18Speaker 3: the same time, it goes to that idea to me
- 20:21Speaker 3: of before them seek God, them seek the devil, because
- 20:24Speaker 3: it's like instead of seeking spirituality or the idea of
- 20:29Speaker 3: you know that death is just a part of life
- 20:31Speaker 3: in that we have to move on and we still
- 20:34Speaker 3: communicate with our ancestors and things of that nature is
- 20:39Speaker 3: I will get this tech you know, solution to it.
- 20:43Speaker 3: And then it goes with a lot of things, like
- 20:46Speaker 3: with the whole reality simulation thing simulation theory, it goes
- 20:50Speaker 3: the same thing.
- 20:51Speaker 2: To me, it's like.
- 20:51Speaker 3: People will believe that before they believe that there's a
- 20:55Speaker 3: God that created all of this. And I'm not even
- 20:57Speaker 3: talking about in the traditional you know, white man, you know,
- 21:01Speaker 3: some dude in the cloud sitting up there doing things.
- 21:03Speaker 3: I'm just talking about the fact that there's a universal
- 21:05Speaker 3: energy and everything is part of that universal energy, and
- 21:09Speaker 3: things are all made or the same thing, and it
- 21:11Speaker 3: all operates on.
- 21:11Speaker 1: The Rastafari Rastafari Rastafari roster.
- 21:15Speaker 2: But it's also it's also very scientific. You know, I'm
- 21:18Speaker 2: looking at.
- 21:18Speaker 3: Yes, and all matter is made of the same you know,
- 21:22Speaker 3: structures in the very lowest levels, so the ins of
- 21:25Speaker 3: that nature.
- 21:26Speaker 1: What feels a little bit different to me with the
- 21:29Speaker 1: re Reai re recreating Natalie is that she had the
- 21:34Speaker 1: little on her head. So it's to me, the separation
- 21:38Speaker 1: between like the soul, the mind, the spirit. It's a
- 21:41Speaker 1: little bit more grey in this universe then it would
- 21:46Speaker 1: be if one of us, you know, if if we
- 21:49Speaker 1: took a we had chat GPT, creator Ai of my
- 21:51Speaker 1: sister or whatever. It's just taking like it's yeah, it's
- 21:54Speaker 1: just taking our text messages. It's just taking whatever they
- 21:57Speaker 1: find on the internet. In this universe, they're tapping into
- 22:01Speaker 1: reres thoughts, her feelings, her soul. Like it feels for me,
- 22:05Speaker 1: a lot of that stuff feels mixed in and melded
- 22:08Speaker 1: in you know what I'm saying. So like even when
- 22:09Speaker 1: her mom is like, oh, can you make one of Gary?
- 22:13Speaker 1: She could?
- 22:14Speaker 2: She could?
- 22:15Speaker 1: You know, to me it sounded like, well it was
- 22:17Speaker 1: a mistake. But I felt like if she put her
- 22:19Speaker 1: energy and if you put her mind to it, if
- 22:20Speaker 1: she wanted to, she could. Is it a good idea?
- 22:24Speaker 1: Probably not, but she could. But I would say to me,
- 22:27Speaker 1: in that universe, like everything that you were saying about,
- 22:31Speaker 1: you know, spirit and seeking God and this that or whatever,
- 22:33Speaker 1: it feels a little bit different when the technology is
- 22:35Speaker 1: more advanced and it is tapping into you know, mind,
- 22:39Speaker 1: body and spirit in a way that our real world
- 22:42Speaker 1: chat GBT is not.
- 22:43Speaker 3: You know, well that's the question, like what happens when
- 22:46Speaker 3: our real world chat GBT does get if it ever
- 22:49Speaker 3: could get to that level.
- 22:50Speaker 2: I don't think it can.
- 22:52Speaker 1: But they can't even know. We do know, we do know.
- 22:57Speaker 1: They can't even draw a freaking fingers. And if you
- 23:00Speaker 1: paying attention, you still know the difference between fucking real ship.
- 23:03Speaker 3: And a doing off your brain. It's not doing yet,
- 23:10Speaker 3: there's that, there's the see now. But let's say one
- 23:14Speaker 3: hundred years humanity makes it and it's doing off your brain.
- 23:18Speaker 2: It can be less. Yeah, and that they happens then
- 23:22Speaker 2: you know, that's what I'm saying. Then is it spiritual
- 23:25Speaker 2: or not? Then? You know, is it part of our
- 23:28Speaker 2: you know? Is it that's thing?
- 23:29Speaker 3: Because like Natalie says, I remember things, but I've gapsed
- 23:33Speaker 3: in my memory. But that'd be the same as if
- 23:34Speaker 3: I was alive, and that's true. You know, I'm mad,
- 23:37Speaker 3: you know, you know, tons of gaps. But at the
- 23:41Speaker 3: same time, is it so is it like is it Natalie?
- 23:45Speaker 2: Or is it real?
- 23:46Speaker 3: Because if she has gaps in the memory that she
- 23:48Speaker 3: only remembers when we was in the room, or did
- 23:52Speaker 3: she remember things when we we wasn't in the room.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Which if she does, then that becomes.
- 23:58Speaker 3: You know, really honestly, that's when it becomes like, you know,
- 24:02Speaker 3: if she remembers anything with reviewics in the room, how
- 24:06Speaker 3: you know, like that's when it becomes well, you know, yeah,
- 24:09Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 24:12Speaker 2: How real is this thing?
- 24:13Speaker 1: You know?
- 24:13Speaker 3: Is this?
- 24:14Speaker 2: Yeah? Do Android's dream of electric sheep? You know? Yeah?
- 24:22Speaker 1: So what did you what did you like? Did you
- 24:23Speaker 1: talk about Joe? You finished?
- 24:25Speaker 2: Joe?
- 24:25Speaker 1: You finished?
- 24:25Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 24:26Speaker 1: I did, all right, Ben? What what did you like
- 24:28Speaker 1: about the show off?
- 24:30Speaker 2: This is all one. I very much enjoyed how black
- 24:34Speaker 2: it was.
- 24:35Speaker 3: Like me and you were talking off the air about this,
- 24:37Speaker 3: and I definitely say it feels like the after cool
- 24:40Speaker 3: special version of you know, Chicago. Like it is not
- 24:44Speaker 3: like you know, it's not some gritty one which I
- 24:47Speaker 3: don't need, but it's not even black or Chicago in
- 24:50Speaker 3: the way that something I just finally, I know, I'm
- 24:53Speaker 3: dumb late, like on the second season of south Side,
- 24:57Speaker 3: and south Side is just incredibly black and incredibly.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Chicago, and some of my best friends from Howard are
- 25:03Speaker 2: from Chicago.
- 25:04Speaker 3: I also hype when they showed the museum it's the
- 25:07Speaker 3: Black Museum because I did a book reading there with
- 25:10Speaker 3: my children's book, and so I'm like, yeah, that's the
- 25:13Speaker 3: Black Museum in Chicago. Of course they they're there for
- 25:16Speaker 3: the Fairest Bueler episodes.
- 25:17Speaker 2: So one.
- 25:18Speaker 3: But the other thing is this show is only six
- 25:21Speaker 3: episodes long, and because of that, it's also got to
- 25:24Speaker 3: deal with That's the other thing that I always talk about,
- 25:26Speaker 3: and I always say in screenwriting, real estate and what
- 25:29Speaker 3: you have to deal with, and in this show, you
- 25:31Speaker 3: have to deal with introducing re Read and our whole
- 25:35Speaker 3: world of characters, which I thought they did very well,
- 25:37Speaker 3: as well as the antagonists and all the people who
- 25:40Speaker 3: come along with that.
- 25:41Speaker 2: I thought all of them were very well.
- 25:42Speaker 3: I thought, you know, re Rey's family and her enemies
- 25:45Speaker 3: are all very well developed, and the people around them,
- 25:48Speaker 3: the neighborhood, et cetera. In a short time to have
- 25:51Speaker 3: then you also have to move things along in the
- 25:53Speaker 3: Marvel way, you know, and lead into later things, and
- 25:57Speaker 3: then you have to have action, adventure and all these
- 25:59Speaker 3: other things to what's back from a superhero show. So
- 26:01Speaker 3: it has a lot to do, you know, in terms
- 26:03Speaker 3: of versus something like a Hawkeye, you know, which is
- 26:06Speaker 3: white people. So I thought it did all of those
- 26:09Speaker 3: things very well. I like the music, you know, et cetera.
- 26:12Speaker 3: I really like Ramos. I'm not really I feel like
- 26:15Speaker 3: I've become more of a fan of him as he's
- 26:17Speaker 3: grotten older than after, and I really liked him in
- 26:20Speaker 3: his role as the Hood. There's a lot of little
- 26:24Speaker 3: things where it's like there are very much hinting at
- 26:28Speaker 3: things to come.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Like Joel said, we know there's magic involved.
- 26:32Speaker 3: We know that his cape gets extremely hot, the Hood
- 26:36Speaker 3: gets extremely hot, and there's a shot that I'm gonna
- 26:39Speaker 3: point out because I'm gonna make another quick video about
- 26:43Speaker 3: this after reread. I think this is after episode two,
- 26:47Speaker 3: after their second heist, after well, actually this is their
- 26:50Speaker 3: first heights.
- 26:51Speaker 2: The first thing is just re rebusting for the elevator,
- 26:53Speaker 2: but after the heist, after you know, they're doing the
- 26:56Speaker 2: whole money.
- 26:57Speaker 3: So it's actually the beginning of episode three because they're
- 26:59Speaker 3: doing the whole money shot and everything, and they're talking
- 27:01Speaker 3: about the money. When she leaves the hideout, she's talking
- 27:06Speaker 3: to Natalie her Ai outside of it, and behind re
- 27:10Speaker 3: read is a whole line of.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Posters that all say false.
- 27:15Speaker 3: It looks like it's a poster for a play or
- 27:18Speaker 3: something about false and Falter is a German legend. It's
- 27:22Speaker 3: that basically talks about you know, a dude who makes
- 27:25Speaker 3: a deal with Memphistosceles. I never know how to pronounce
- 27:31Speaker 3: a whole law name mepas Mephisto. Basically, it makes a
- 27:36Speaker 3: deal with the devil, and a Fastian bargain, a Falsterian
- 27:39Speaker 3: agreement comes from that. It's when someone knows that they're
- 27:43Speaker 3: making a deal with the double basically, like they know
- 27:46Speaker 3: the consequences of it, but they make it anyway because
- 27:49Speaker 3: they believe that whatever they're going to get out of
- 27:51Speaker 3: it is worth whatever they're gonna lose from it, and
- 27:54Speaker 3: of course, you know, in the end, it never is.
- 27:56Speaker 3: And so that's not one of the things I love
- 28:00Speaker 3: about the show. But I just think one of the
- 28:01Speaker 3: ill things about the show is that this show seems
- 28:03Speaker 3: to be about a lot of people making these Faltian agreements.
- 28:07Speaker 2: Are these falster and bargains.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Because right now that like Natalie is arguing with her,
- 28:12Speaker 3: that she's making on right then, like Natalie's telling her,
- 28:15Speaker 3: you're out here being a common criminal, you know, doing
- 28:18Speaker 3: the things that you said you wouldn't do. You know
- 28:21Speaker 3: that everyone your you know, Stepdad and Xavier down the line.
- 28:25Speaker 3: You know it's against and you're out here doing it
- 28:27Speaker 3: because you think the money is worth it because you
- 28:30Speaker 3: can build.
- 28:31Speaker 2: Your new suit.
- 28:32Speaker 3: And that's something else that I really loved about the
- 28:34Speaker 3: show is like Rear says that to Xavier, no one
- 28:38Speaker 3: gives the damn about me until I made the suit.
- 28:40Speaker 3: And so it's like she has to be what the
- 28:42Speaker 3: white man is for anyone to recognize her, for the
- 28:45Speaker 3: black woman to get recognized, she has to do things
- 28:48Speaker 3: that the white man has done and in particular that
- 28:51Speaker 3: Tony Stark has done, and Ezekiel calls her out for it.
- 28:54Speaker 3: He says, you're coming in here with that iron energy.
- 28:57Speaker 3: And it's like, I've talked about this so many times
- 28:59Speaker 3: on the show, but Tony to me is.
- 29:01Speaker 2: A war criminal. You know, he's a wild boy.
- 29:04Speaker 3: From the beginning of the MCU pretty much up to
- 29:08Speaker 3: the point he dies, like people had like he goes
- 29:10Speaker 3: on this crazy art but he pretty much stays the
- 29:12Speaker 3: same dude, and then you know, flips over towards the
- 29:15Speaker 3: last two movies when he finally recognizes, you know, the
- 29:18Speaker 3: people outside of himself. And I feel like, reread, like
- 29:21Speaker 3: you said, Joel, that's who she is in the comics,
- 29:23Speaker 3: and I feel like she's junior Tony, Like even though
- 29:26Speaker 3: she's a black woman version of it, she still has
- 29:29Speaker 3: that same super intelligence and that might lead to a
- 29:33Speaker 3: bit of a dispassionate version of looking at the rest
- 29:36Speaker 3: of humanity. So I think they're hinting at that type
- 29:39Speaker 3: of stuff, and I think she makes choices because of
- 29:42Speaker 3: you know, that type of mentality, and it's interesting to
- 29:46Speaker 3: see m hm.
- 29:48Speaker 1: So I agree it was black and I don't think
- 29:53Speaker 1: I've even ever been to Chicago. Oh yeah, But I
- 29:56Speaker 1: grew up watching the classics, like South Side, like The Bear,
- 30:00Speaker 1: like The Shy. I grew up since I was a
- 30:03Speaker 1: baby watching those shows, and so I know Chicago. So,
- 30:09Speaker 1: excluding season one of The Bear, which doesn't count in
- 30:13Speaker 1: Chicago lore, I was hoping for a little bit more
- 30:18Speaker 1: of Chicago flavor. And again I say this as a
- 30:22Speaker 1: person who has never been to Chicago.
- 30:25Speaker 2: Bear ever gets Chicago to me?
- 30:28Speaker 1: No, no, yeah, I think it just it gets really
- 30:31Speaker 1: like yeah season after so they got yelled at. They
- 30:37Speaker 1: got yelled at for season one, and then after that
- 30:40Speaker 1: they tried to be more Chicago. But I have watched
- 30:43Speaker 1: I have watched every episode. I might be behind an episode,
- 30:46Speaker 1: but I have watched every episode of The Shy, and
- 30:49Speaker 1: they are very Chicago. And I can say this because
- 30:52Speaker 1: I've never been and so they are very clearly Chicago.
- 30:55Speaker 1: South Side is very clearly Chicago, and I was just
- 30:59Speaker 1: I was expecting a little bit more.
- 31:02Speaker 2: Let me also say this.
- 31:03Speaker 1: As a person who hasn't been a lot of places, right,
- 31:06Speaker 1: I expected to feel like I was somewhere else. So
- 31:10Speaker 1: I'll say that right because I don't really know what
- 31:12Speaker 1: the fun Chicago was supposed to be except for what
- 31:15Speaker 1: I learned growing up as a baby watching The Shy
- 31:18Speaker 1: in Southside, right, So I did expect to feel like
- 31:23Speaker 1: I was in another city, and I didn't feel like
- 31:27Speaker 1: that as much with this. And I hear what you're
- 31:30Speaker 1: saying about they only had six episodes, but I just
- 31:34Speaker 1: feel like that kind of stuff, it gets baked in,
- 31:37Speaker 1: you know, it gets baked in, you know, Like Okay,
- 31:43Speaker 1: I don't know, you know.
- 31:44Speaker 4: There's just a lot of like subtle call outs. Yeah,
- 31:47Speaker 4: a lot of the actors are from Chicago, Like, I
- 31:49Speaker 4: know it's from Chicago.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Okay.
- 31:52Speaker 4: One who plays Rereset that is from Chicago. Yes, the
- 31:55Speaker 4: soundtrack is full of like full of Chicago. I was like,
- 32:00Speaker 4: I don't know who that is. Let me look that up.
- 32:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:03Speaker 4: I think like that was helpful, like it was authentically Chicago,
- 32:08Speaker 4: though you might not see it.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Okay, that's true.
- 32:13Speaker 2: And they only had six episodes, still seasons like.
- 32:19Speaker 3: Marvel, you know, it's like that's it's like it's going
- 32:23Speaker 3: to be Marvel first, you know, so that's to be
- 32:26Speaker 3: the main thing, you know, and then all that other
- 32:28Speaker 3: stuff is like the extra side thing. And that's why
- 32:30Speaker 3: I always say it's like I'm happy they got as
- 32:33Speaker 3: much of the side thing and the soundtrack, especially Loan
- 32:36Speaker 3: because it's like house heavy, you know, it's not modern
- 32:40Speaker 3: and plastic joints, you know, and then new and old artists.
- 32:44Speaker 3: I was really feeling that the soundtrack, and it's subtle.
- 32:47Speaker 3: It's not like where it's one of those shows where
- 32:52Speaker 3: it's like, you know, a person needs to relax and
- 32:54Speaker 3: electric relaxations are playing right right, right right, you know.
- 32:58Speaker 2: It's not that type of thing, so I thought. But
- 33:00Speaker 2: music was very well done.
- 33:02Speaker 1: Okay, okay, what's next? Where are you? Where do you
- 33:04Speaker 1: want to go with this next? I have a list
- 33:07Speaker 1: of what do you want to cover?
- 33:13Speaker 3: Well, one last thing that I really liked was I
- 33:16Speaker 3: thought it started off you know, well, it starts off
- 33:19Speaker 3: very strong as a show.
- 33:20Speaker 2: In general, I thought the first episodes were very well written.
- 33:24Speaker 3: I loved how it went into the title sequence being
- 33:27Speaker 3: different in every episode, and the first one with re
- 33:30Speaker 3: rerolling around on the ground and then it's showing Ironheart,
- 33:33Speaker 3: which is incredible.
- 33:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:36Speaker 3: I love that Trevor, her first AI is mispronouncing her
- 33:39Speaker 3: name the whole time.
- 33:41Speaker 2: He calls her rev Or something like that, and you know,
- 33:44Speaker 2: just you know, the white.
- 33:45Speaker 3: Dude talking to a black woman, And I love when
- 33:49Speaker 3: she tried to call out against her black professor at MIT,
- 33:53Speaker 3: when she's like, who ever tried to make you feel small?
- 33:57Speaker 2: You know, I tried to bring in other people who
- 33:59Speaker 2: look like us. Da da da da. You've been here
- 34:01Speaker 2: four years and what have you done? You know?
- 34:04Speaker 3: So I love that little flip because usually we get
- 34:06Speaker 3: the you know, you try to make me feel small,
- 34:08Speaker 3: and you know they're right, you know, But I just
- 34:10Speaker 3: love little things like that where it's a little good
- 34:12Speaker 3: twist in the writing. And then that's one last thing
- 34:15Speaker 3: I will say, because I know you mentioned before about
- 34:17Speaker 3: the writing it's a very thin line between corny and
- 34:22Speaker 3: classic or corny and cool.
- 34:26Speaker 2: I don't know what like, not even cool corny and
- 34:30Speaker 2: more like corny and classic. I guess, like girl we
- 34:35Speaker 2: in Trouble was that was harsh? You know? I like,
- 34:40Speaker 2: but like.
- 34:42Speaker 3: From my own like in Jimmy Hender's Purple Haze, there's
- 34:46Speaker 3: a panel where one character loads up a gun and
- 34:49Speaker 3: clicks the gun to full and it says all the
- 34:52Speaker 3: way up, you know, instead of having an amo gauge.
- 34:55Speaker 3: And you know, I sit there with that one like.
- 35:00Speaker 1: You know, it keeps you up at nice the one
- 35:06Speaker 1: thing that keeps you up, you know.
- 35:09Speaker 2: Perfect out of that Yeah, that whole book. I'm like,
- 35:11Speaker 2: was that wrong?
- 35:13Speaker 5: You know?
- 35:13Speaker 2: Like I loved it at the time. I still some
- 35:16Speaker 2: days love it.
- 35:17Speaker 3: But it's one of those things, you know, And it's
- 35:19Speaker 3: like some people might when not think about it all,
- 35:21Speaker 3: might love it, you know, but when that you know,
- 35:24Speaker 3: we're in trouble.
- 35:25Speaker 2: It might have been the delivery, you know, whatever, but
- 35:29Speaker 2: it just did not for me personally work, you know.
- 35:32Speaker 3: But at the same time, I understand and I feel
- 35:34Speaker 3: like that that's the thing with the show, and that's
- 35:36Speaker 3: what you were talking about. It is like there's a
- 35:38Speaker 3: lot of that. There's a lot there's a lot of like,
- 35:41Speaker 3: you know, we black, you know moments sometimes writing and
- 35:46Speaker 3: a lot of times it's subtle and then a lot
- 35:47Speaker 3: of and then the other times it's we're black, you know.
- 35:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:51Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, yeah, Okay, that's go, let's fucking go
- 36:01Speaker 1: all right. Okay, So I feel like, and I think
- 36:06Speaker 1: this happens in episode one. Is this episode one where
- 36:09Speaker 1: we get the montage of the crew of Hood's Crew
- 36:13Speaker 1: of Shake Coulai and all that. Okay, so we get
- 36:17Speaker 1: this crew that is heavily queer coded in their appearance.
- 36:22Speaker 1: We have Shake Coula, we have Clown who's obviously some
- 36:26Speaker 1: sort of queer. All of them are queer, right, all
- 36:30Speaker 1: of them are queer coded. And we know queer looks
- 36:32Speaker 1: like many different things. So it's possible that that it's
- 36:36Speaker 1: possible that clown is not queer. It's possible the twins
- 36:39Speaker 1: are not queer. The sisters are the sibling excuse me,
- 36:41Speaker 1: are not queer like, but also in real life they
- 36:45Speaker 1: are modeled after queer imagery. Right, in my opinion, you
- 36:52Speaker 1: don't have that number of queer folks together, queer femmes
- 36:58Speaker 1: in particular, right, And when we start talking about like
- 37:02Speaker 1: what are you gonna do with your money? Right, you
- 37:05Speaker 1: don't have that number. We're talking about the numbers here
- 37:08Speaker 1: because we know that not just because you're queer doesn't
- 37:10Speaker 1: mean that you have a revolutionary politic, right, but that
- 37:13Speaker 1: number of queer folks together and embodying and dressing revolutionary,
- 37:19Speaker 1: And nobody has a revolutionary politic. Nobody's taking their money
- 37:24Speaker 1: to fucking try and dismantle some shit or to build
- 37:27Speaker 1: some shit with community or whatever. It just felt like
- 37:31Speaker 1: this is just one example of it in the show.
- 37:32Speaker 1: But like, as somebody who loves Shenanigans Marvel cartoons, I
- 37:39Speaker 1: watched what was that Transformers movie? The last one? Yes, yeah, okay,
- 37:47Speaker 1: it was great, But I'm growing tired of embodying revolutionary
- 37:57Speaker 1: language and like jacking our appearance, jacking some of our ideas,
- 38:05Speaker 1: and then not including any of the like for real
- 38:09Speaker 1: authentic shit that comes with that. It feels like oftentimes
- 38:13Speaker 1: is being written by somebody who's looking at us from
- 38:17Speaker 1: the outside and like, oh, this is how quirky and
- 38:20Speaker 1: fun they dress. These are some of the cool things
- 38:23Speaker 1: that they say, and like the people are jacking our
- 38:26Speaker 1: style and writing that into the show without any of
- 38:30Speaker 1: the other political stuff that comes along with that. You
- 38:32Speaker 1: just don't have that many queer fems in a room
- 38:35Speaker 1: together doing this kind of crime, and nobody is on
- 38:38Speaker 1: any type of revolutionary bullshit. Nobody is taking this money
- 38:42Speaker 1: and like reappropriating it to do something for community. Everybody's
- 38:46Speaker 1: answer like they took time to ask what are you
- 38:48Speaker 1: gonna do with your money? What are you gonna do
- 38:49Speaker 1: with your money? What are you gonna do with your money?
- 38:51Speaker 1: And all of their stuff was based on like their
- 38:53Speaker 1: individual survival, not that we're not trying to survive, but
- 38:56Speaker 1: one of those motherfuckers would have said, this is what,
- 39:00Speaker 1: you know, what I always wanted to do for community.
- 39:03Speaker 1: This is what I wanted to do, and this is
- 39:04Speaker 1: how I'm gonna do it. One at least one of
- 39:07Speaker 1: them would have said that shit. And that also goes
- 39:10Speaker 1: for like re read and like, you know, she's almost
- 39:14Speaker 1: shot by that cop before Hood comes to save her
- 39:17Speaker 1: or whatever, and like her takeaway is like somebody almost
- 39:22Speaker 1: died and she's talking about the fucking cop almost died.
- 39:27Speaker 1: You almost died, bitch, you almost died.
- 39:30Speaker 2: It feels like in our art.
- 39:32Speaker 1: And this is not just I felt it heavily with this,
- 39:35Speaker 1: but this is not simply a critique of like Ironheart.
- 39:39Speaker 4: This is a thing.
- 39:40Speaker 1: That's why I mentioned the Transformer thing, because fucking Megatron
- 39:43Speaker 1: or whatever his fucking name was, was right the whole
- 39:45Speaker 1: fucking time. It's like we can't in our art within
- 39:49Speaker 1: the colonized world. I think of Queen and Slim all
- 39:51Speaker 1: the fucking time, Like even in our fantasies, even in
- 39:54Speaker 1: our art, we can't be fucking free, you know what
- 39:56Speaker 1: I'm saying. So like this group of queer coded fits
- 40:00Speaker 1: and these black folks and you know, and hood and
- 40:06Speaker 1: everyone is out for self. There's no real we're supposed
- 40:09Speaker 1: to like it's implied that, like, you know, these black
- 40:12Speaker 1: and brown folks they're they're on some robinhood shit. Maybe
- 40:17Speaker 1: I don't know, but nobody is really talking any type
- 40:20Speaker 1: of political stuff that makes you feel like, Okay, I
- 40:23Speaker 1: guess I could see it that way. Kind of, it's
- 40:26Speaker 1: like we're all supposed to know from the beginning, it's
- 40:28Speaker 1: written out or spelled out for us that what they're
- 40:30Speaker 1: doing is wrong and this is this is wrong, and
- 40:32Speaker 1: this is right, and reb is just there for the
- 40:34Speaker 1: money and these people that they're robbing like it's okay
- 40:38Speaker 1: to rob them, But there's no real conversation about like resistance,
- 40:43Speaker 1: like it's always in these properties, it's always costplaying resistance
- 40:49Speaker 1: and in our current society, right, and and we're always resisting, right,
- 40:55Speaker 1: people in our bodies are always resisting and having to resist.
- 40:59Speaker 1: And I'm growing very tired of it being used as cosplay.
- 41:04Speaker 1: We've seen it done better where they include some of
- 41:06Speaker 1: the nuances of like why you might exist in the gray,
- 41:10Speaker 1: why it's not always just right wrong, Black white, legal, illegal,
- 41:15Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. And I felt like this
- 41:17Speaker 1: was so like they're doing the wrong thing or there's
- 41:21Speaker 1: a way to resist. This is not the right way,
- 41:23Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. Like it just was it
- 41:26Speaker 1: felt like Rebe was the Feds. It felt like they
- 41:29Speaker 1: were using limited queer politic or whatever. I'm only asking,
- 41:33Speaker 1: I'm only asking for one person to say something that
- 41:37Speaker 1: they would do for someone besides themselves. That for me
- 41:41Speaker 1: was a little bit weird. And I'm just growing tired
- 41:44Speaker 1: of that in our media because a part of the
- 41:46Speaker 1: stuff that we're really drawn to are the things that
- 41:49Speaker 1: like we've in our identity and existence, and we're at
- 41:54Speaker 1: this stage like maybe we've you know, as black people,
- 41:57Speaker 1: we've gotten past a certain point of where just costplaying,
- 42:01Speaker 1: you know, give me five on the black cant side
- 42:02Speaker 1: or whatever. Okay, we moved past that. Now you're also costplaying.
- 42:06Speaker 1: Some of us who have a certain kind of liberatory
- 42:09Speaker 1: politic write some of that shit in because we deal
- 42:13Speaker 1: with heavy shit, right We're dealing with grief, your friends
- 42:17Speaker 1: and your fucking dad being murdered by fucking violence or whatever,
- 42:22Speaker 1: by gun violence. We're dealing with heavy stuff. You could
- 42:25Speaker 1: give me a little bit of the realities that some
- 42:27Speaker 1: of us are existing in as we fucking resist white
- 42:31Speaker 1: supremacist regime and fucking empire.
- 42:33Speaker 3: Bro, Like, come on, I do agree with you, and
- 42:36Speaker 3: then I also disagree, and I went here with Joyce
- 42:38Speaker 3: to say about it too. But one that was my
- 42:41Speaker 3: main thing that I wanted to address you. I never
- 42:43Speaker 3: looked at any of them as revolutionary. I get that
- 42:46Speaker 3: they are because you are, you know, their career code,
- 42:50Speaker 3: especially Okay, the leader of the crew is a criminal who,
- 42:54Speaker 3: from my you know, from these first three episodes, seems
- 42:58Speaker 3: to be making deals with some one you know, devilish
- 43:03Speaker 3: like that, you know, the hood seems to be a
- 43:05Speaker 3: devilish item that he has taken and used upon himself.
- 43:10Speaker 3: So after that, I'm not looking for this man to
- 43:12Speaker 3: do whoever less that ASTs, you know what I mean.
- 43:14Speaker 3: And like, like we were talking about before we started
- 43:17Speaker 3: the show, knowing you know, me knowing black and brown
- 43:20Speaker 3: men being completely trash in my life, you know, of
- 43:24Speaker 3: a certain age, I don't really expect all of them
- 43:27Speaker 3: to be good.
- 43:28Speaker 1: Then you're saying all of them and I very specifically
- 43:31Speaker 1: said one, Yeah, you know what.
- 43:34Speaker 3: I'm saying, Oh, no you're saying, but no, you're saying
- 43:36Speaker 3: one one of the five. And like, okay, first you
- 43:40Speaker 3: gotta like, why slew Carter? My man is making those deals?
- 43:43Speaker 3: I slew John because that's his cousin. Boom right away,
- 43:47Speaker 3: that's too out the picture. Who are gonna be, you know,
- 43:49Speaker 3: doing down for whatever?
- 43:51Speaker 2: You know?
- 43:53Speaker 3: The other the siblings are you know, passable where I'm
- 43:58Speaker 3: you know, not gonna you know, they gonna make choices.
- 44:01Speaker 3: I'm just saying at the same time, it's just faux
- 44:03Speaker 3: fiving them. But I really want to hear with that.
- 44:05Speaker 1: That's a lot of people. That's a lot of people.
- 44:09Speaker 1: And there was reread, and there's the person who was killed,
- 44:12Speaker 1: and they're they're all queer coded. So let me let
- 44:15Speaker 1: me ask you a question. Let me ask you a question.
- 44:17Speaker 1: If they were all if they had them all in
- 44:19Speaker 1: black panther imagery, if they were all dressed like panthers,
- 44:22Speaker 1: we wouldn't expect one of them to say something, to
- 44:26Speaker 1: be on something.
- 44:27Speaker 2: See, queer coding and black panthers are two different things. Why,
- 44:31Speaker 2: I don't know. I know a lot of queer coding
- 44:32Speaker 2: people who are not revolutionary at all.
- 44:34Speaker 1: Right, Yes, sure, I'm not saying. I'm not saying. I'm
- 44:38Speaker 1: not saying I.
- 44:39Speaker 3: Can't as a Black Panther member, you know what I mean,
- 44:43Speaker 3: Like that's a different time.
- 44:44Speaker 4: But I didn't say.
- 44:45Speaker 1: I didn't say a member because we don't.
- 44:47Speaker 3: But if you're dressing Black Panther outfit, I would consider
- 44:50Speaker 3: you a Black Panther member. Yes, that's my first thought.
- 44:52Speaker 1: Beyond the whole Beyon the whole show.
- 44:55Speaker 2: I thought about a full real Black Panther outfit, carrying
- 44:58Speaker 2: the guns, et cetera. You know what I mean. What
- 45:00Speaker 2: I'm saying is.
- 45:00Speaker 1: That this was queer cosplay to me. But that's what
- 45:04Speaker 1: I'm saying.
- 45:05Speaker 3: But queer cosplay in America and Americans to me is like,
- 45:09Speaker 3: you know you're gonna get the wide spectrum of of trash.
- 45:12Speaker 1: You know you're gonna get a wide spectrum of lots
- 45:14Speaker 1: of stuff and with with. But this is what I'm saying,
- 45:17Speaker 1: is that queer identity similarly to any intersection, they come
- 45:23Speaker 1: with other stuff. The same way we watch black people
- 45:26Speaker 1: do things in a show and we were like off
- 45:29Speaker 1: the rip of them being black. It's just culturally, it's
- 45:31Speaker 1: just certain stuff that like you wouldn't do one of
- 45:34Speaker 1: those black people would do da da to me. I'm
- 45:38Speaker 1: not saying that we should assume that because they're queer
- 45:42Speaker 1: and on some other stuff, but no one of them.
- 45:44Speaker 1: They didn't. They didn't know that this guy was making
- 45:47Speaker 1: deals with somebody shady. They didn't know what the hood was.
- 45:50Speaker 2: They didn't know all that they do.
- 45:53Speaker 3: They find out in the second episode that is very
- 45:55Speaker 3: hot or third episode that is very hot. They've seen him,
- 46:00Speaker 3: you know, exhibit powers and things in their nature that
- 46:03Speaker 3: they don't know what it is, but they choose to
- 46:06Speaker 3: go along with it, which is you know, like that
- 46:10Speaker 3: is like horror movie level shit, you know, like, oh,
- 46:12Speaker 3: I don't know what this nigga's doing, but fuck it,
- 46:14Speaker 3: I'm gonna go along with it.
- 46:15Speaker 2: Once again, Fastian bargains like.
- 46:18Speaker 4: That is in this universe because like THEYTIY talk about like,
- 46:22Speaker 4: oh there's witches.
- 46:22Speaker 2: And yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 46:24Speaker 1: So people know that this is you know, right, But
- 46:26Speaker 1: if you doesn't mean the same thing that it would
- 46:28Speaker 1: mean if it was happening in our universe, like nobody doesn't.
- 46:32Speaker 3: That's just it doesn't mean the same thing. That's what
- 46:35Speaker 3: Like I talk about this and I go back to
- 46:37Speaker 3: and or all the time. You know what I mean,
- 46:38Speaker 3: it's choices people make. These are grown ass people, like
- 46:42Speaker 3: it's just like within the and or there's a lot
- 46:44Speaker 3: of people who people sympathize with because of how they look,
- 46:46Speaker 3: et cetera.
- 46:47Speaker 2: But they made these choices.
- 46:49Speaker 1: I think that this show made certain things they played
- 46:53Speaker 1: with like is this black and white or is this gray?
- 46:55Speaker 1: And I feel like there was room for more grey
- 46:59Speaker 1: like Universe.
- 47:00Speaker 2: But like I'll give you that.
- 47:02Speaker 3: But but I'm also saying is that I just I
- 47:05Speaker 3: never even saw it as great, Like I thought, you know,
- 47:07Speaker 3: it was like real wants money.
- 47:09Speaker 2: You know.
- 47:09Speaker 3: I wasn't like, it wasn't like, and dude is doing
- 47:12Speaker 3: wild shit like the hood. I wasn't looking at him
- 47:14Speaker 3: as like, oh he's you know, against a man.
- 47:17Speaker 1: I know that's not We could do this forever, you
- 47:19Speaker 1: know what, will agree to disagree in this moment, I
- 47:21Speaker 1: want to get to Joe.
- 47:23Speaker 4: There are parts that I agree with you, Like, I
- 47:25Speaker 4: think I am also tired of just kind of like
- 47:30Speaker 4: Marvel constantly giving us this like shallow queer representation. And
- 47:36Speaker 4: I feel like it continued in Ironheart like again visually, yes,
- 47:40Speaker 4: like aesthetically it felt very queer like I'll even say
- 47:44Speaker 4: John was giving me you know sometimes he likes the butt,
- 47:47Speaker 4: you know, you never know. But I think like at
- 47:52Speaker 4: the same time, like something that that this just made
- 47:56Speaker 4: me think of as like the conversation that for As
- 47:59Speaker 4: has been about with the general public about like black
- 48:03Speaker 4: lex Luthor and like how like can we have like
- 48:08Speaker 4: is like a black super villain. And so I'm kind
- 48:12Speaker 4: of like, well, why can't like the queer people be
- 48:14Speaker 4: like trash people. But also like at the same time
- 48:18Speaker 4: I did, I just kind of felt like they were
- 48:19Speaker 4: having fun. Like it just gave me like if that
- 48:22Speaker 4: was something that I liked seeing it was like they
- 48:24Speaker 4: were just like enjoying themselves. Like I don't while I
- 48:28Speaker 4: agree that like it makes sense that at least one
- 48:32Speaker 4: queer person in the room would want to do something,
- 48:35Speaker 4: like would say something a little bit more revolutionary, I
- 48:38Speaker 4: also think.
- 48:39Speaker 1: There's also they're also queer people of color, but they're young,
- 48:43Speaker 1: very that's who that's usually who's at the you know,
- 48:46Speaker 1: at the forefront of.
- 48:46Speaker 3: These mountains, and it's also it's also the forefront of
- 48:49Speaker 3: wild'n out.
- 48:54Speaker 2: Know, you're good.
- 48:55Speaker 4: But at the same time, like I'm also like, why
- 48:58Speaker 4: do why why did they queer people have to be
- 49:01Speaker 4: the ones to kind of like spur that off, Like
- 49:05Speaker 4: why can't they just exist and be in this space
- 49:07Speaker 4: where like, yeah, I just want to like make tons
- 49:10Speaker 4: of money and spend it on myself. Like I also
- 49:14Speaker 4: kind of wish there's this space for like I want
- 49:17Speaker 4: queer people to be able to like, you know, I
- 49:19Speaker 4: don't always have to think about my community, and I
- 49:21Speaker 4: know like it is embedded and in us, especially with
- 49:24Speaker 4: like queer people of color, Like that's something on our
- 49:27Speaker 4: mind of like Okay, how am I gonna support my peoples.
- 49:30Speaker 4: But at the same time, I think it's okay that
- 49:34Speaker 4: they can be selfish too, like they can not care
- 49:36Speaker 4: about like oh and also I was kind of thinking
- 49:39Speaker 4: too when they were sharing about like how they were
- 49:40Speaker 4: gonna spend their money. Like if I'm sitting around a
- 49:43Speaker 4: room with like a bunch of my friends and we
- 49:45Speaker 4: just talked about what will we do to like a
- 49:46Speaker 4: million dollars, I'm not immediately gonna go to like oh
- 49:49Speaker 4: I want to you know, No, that's not.
- 49:55Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying.
- 49:58Speaker 4: I hear what you're saying, And like I again, like
- 50:00Speaker 4: it's this constant like shallow representation of queer people, and
- 50:04Speaker 4: like how you can just tell it's not written by
- 50:08Speaker 4: queer people, Like it's not queer people by queer people.
- 50:11Speaker 4: And so there's that that I one hundred percent agree with.
- 50:13Speaker 4: But I do have this part that's like, uh, yeah, okay,
- 50:17Speaker 4: like I want them to be able to just exist
- 50:20Speaker 4: and like to the point earlier about like how pronouns
- 50:23Speaker 4: wasn't a big issue, Like I want like these queer
- 50:25Speaker 4: people to be able to just exist in this universe
- 50:27Speaker 4: and do whatever the fuck they want and not have
- 50:29Speaker 4: to worry about like, you know, trying to trying to
- 50:34Speaker 4: be an advocate, trying to like be in these streets,
- 50:36Speaker 4: like bringing the revolution to people.
- 50:39Speaker 1: I agree, I agree with that. I think the piece
- 50:42Speaker 1: of me that disagrees with that right, like I agree
- 50:47Speaker 1: with that. The piece of me that challenges the idea
- 50:49Speaker 1: of like why can't they all just enjoy their money
- 50:53Speaker 1: and spend frivolously as the Hood said. The piece of
- 50:57Speaker 1: me that resists that a little bit is is that
- 51:01Speaker 1: in our quest in these stories to give the villain
- 51:04Speaker 1: more depth and nuance or whatever, we usually a lot
- 51:08Speaker 1: of times these stories will play in the gray, and
- 51:10Speaker 1: I'm talking about black people, I'm talking about people of color,
- 51:14Speaker 1: and I'm talking about queer people, and I'm talking about
- 51:16Speaker 1: you know, everything in between. Right, They'll frequently leverage our image,
- 51:21Speaker 1: but in the gray they will intentionally, I think, not
- 51:27Speaker 1: include our politics. So everything else can be leveraged in
- 51:31Speaker 1: the gray, right, So poor versus rich, Right, So it's
- 51:35Speaker 1: like we can play with all these other things, and
- 51:38Speaker 1: then we're gonna still intentionally avoid the politics that come
- 51:42Speaker 1: along with the imagery that we're using because for whatever reason,
- 51:48Speaker 1: this is what we're using or whatever. So I agree
- 51:50Speaker 1: with you. I don't think that the burden of like
- 51:54Speaker 1: doing more should be on queer folks, should be on
- 51:58Speaker 1: black folks, should be on people color. I don't think
- 52:01Speaker 1: that our our shows even should be like, oh, we
- 52:03Speaker 1: have to be thinking higher and more whatever I feel.
- 52:08Speaker 3: You you know, But Okay, one, you're like, I think
- 52:11Speaker 3: you're like looking at this show, and you're looking at
- 52:15Speaker 3: it not in a vacuum, but in like the context
- 52:17Speaker 3: of everything else. But not you're also ignoring the context
- 52:21Speaker 3: of what this show has to existence. And that's first
- 52:24Speaker 3: of all the Marvel system, right, and the Marvel system
- 52:27Speaker 3: under you know, the current regime we're under is going
- 52:30Speaker 3: to be a very much more conservative you're not going
- 52:33Speaker 3: to find, you know, Like, that's why I've been telling
- 52:36Speaker 3: you for the last and everyone in the world about
- 52:39Speaker 3: and or for the last ten years, because it's to
- 52:41Speaker 3: be the last time you're ever going to see some
- 52:43Speaker 3: shit like that, you know, like you're not going to
- 52:46Speaker 3: get that type of stuff.
- 52:48Speaker 1: Yeah, that's okay, but I'm not going to shut up
- 52:50Speaker 1: about it, and I know you're not.
- 52:53Speaker 2: But I'm like, like you said, we'll be here all night.
- 52:56Speaker 3: And that's like you have to give the show credit
- 52:59Speaker 3: for the other things that it is doing very well,
- 53:02Speaker 3: because I want to give credit to Shanaka Hodge because
- 53:04Speaker 3: she they are doing a fantastic job with this show.
- 53:08Speaker 3: I also want to say, like what Joel said, because
- 53:09Speaker 3: we've had this debate on fall Nerds for a long time.
- 53:12Speaker 3: It's like you have to allow certain people to be
- 53:16Speaker 3: the villain or to be the antagonist just because they
- 53:18Speaker 3: look like us or look like someone we know that
- 53:20Speaker 3: they can't represent evil or they can't represent just bad choices.
- 53:25Speaker 1: Well that's not that's not again, that's not what I'm saying.
- 53:28Speaker 1: That's a conflation. That's not what I'm not saying they
- 53:31Speaker 1: are saying that.
- 53:32Speaker 3: What I'm saying is people, this is the conflation people
- 53:35Speaker 3: will make from what you're saying. And it's like people
- 53:37Speaker 3: have already made that conflation in our comments. People have
- 53:40Speaker 3: told us that, no, they can't be the villain. You know,
- 53:43Speaker 3: we don't want a black left suitster, is what people
- 53:46Speaker 3: have said, because no, you know led Suitster is villain.
- 53:49Speaker 2: Is he's a billionaire, he's white. You know, a black
- 53:51Speaker 2: dude wouldn't do all that.
- 53:52Speaker 1: Right, Well, I'm not a basic bitch. That's not what
- 53:54Speaker 1: I'm saying. What I'm saying, what I'm calling for is nuance.
- 53:58Speaker 1: I'm just calling for you.
- 54:00Speaker 3: Okay, okay, okay, we all know that you gotta be finished.
- 54:05Speaker 3: I'm not saying you're not calling for nuance. I'm just
- 54:08Speaker 3: saying that this show is doing a lot in nuance
- 54:11Speaker 3: and maybe see. The thing is like, I don't think
- 54:14Speaker 3: it was supposed to be nuanced with them, you know,
- 54:16Speaker 3: I don't. And I don't think it's supposed to be
- 54:18Speaker 3: black and white either. But I just think that like
- 54:21Speaker 3: the main character that you like, it's it's two people,
- 54:24Speaker 3: it's re rein dude. This show does not have the
- 54:27Speaker 3: time to flesh out, you know, like the thugs who
- 54:32Speaker 3: they basically are giving them this much springtime and this
- 54:35Speaker 3: much credit.
- 54:37Speaker 1: Just call them niggas. No, I'm just teasing.
- 54:40Speaker 3: Yeah, it's but it's a credit to the show that
- 54:42Speaker 3: they've gotten this much springtime because they're basically the hnchman,
- 54:45Speaker 3: you know what I mean, They're not meant to be
- 54:47Speaker 3: any more than that. The main conflict is between the
- 54:49Speaker 3: antagonists the Hood and the protagonists Ironheart, and they're both
- 54:53Speaker 3: like I was talking about on this whole Fostere thing
- 54:55Speaker 3: where they're both falling victim to it. And I think
- 54:57Speaker 3: that's a very interesting thing that the show is the
- 55:00Speaker 3: with is that you know, this conflict between those two.
- 55:03Speaker 3: The rest of them are just you know, side there
- 55:06Speaker 3: is pretty much like at least in the you know,
- 55:09Speaker 3: terms of the show. And if I'm saying, I think
- 55:10Speaker 3: we got to give credit to what it is doing,
- 55:12Speaker 3: like in the time it has with like Natalie and
- 55:15Speaker 3: with rewec We gave that credit.
- 55:17Speaker 1: At the top, and then then we asked for my
- 55:20Speaker 1: shenalitgans and those those are my shenalitgans, and I talked
- 55:23Speaker 1: about it in a larger context, like I said, it's
- 55:26Speaker 1: not just this show.
- 55:27Speaker 3: But if I'm saying, yeah, but this show is like
- 55:29Speaker 3: the it's like we're talking about the show tonight, and
- 55:32Speaker 3: it's like this show is catching up the vapors for like,
- 55:36Speaker 3: you know, fifty years of television.
- 55:38Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean that's the case with everything that
- 55:41Speaker 1: gets reviewed, like it gets to be a part of it.
- 55:43Speaker 1: But this was this These were the intersections where I
- 55:45Speaker 1: felt like, what I would have liked to see in
- 55:48Speaker 1: this show is like, as we Bacon nuanced to make
- 55:52Speaker 1: a little bit of room for resistance, since we are
- 55:56Speaker 1: costplaying resistance. That's all I'm saying. And that's that's all
- 56:01Speaker 1: I think.
- 56:01Speaker 3: That's and I think, I mean, maybe that's something that
- 56:04Speaker 3: they wanted to talk about more but might have gotten cut,
- 56:06Speaker 3: et cetera, like the idea because to me, like it's like,
- 56:10Speaker 3: to me, the Hood is just selling He is literally
- 56:13Speaker 3: like you're saying costplaying resistance. It's not that the show
- 56:16Speaker 3: is costplaying resistance. I think the Hood is doing that.
- 56:19Speaker 3: Like the Hood is literally like even John right, that's
- 56:22Speaker 3: the cousin. He walks up to her and it is like,
- 56:24Speaker 3: I couldn't work for a traditional company. That's his line.
- 56:28Speaker 3: Not I need to break down the system. It's I
- 56:31Speaker 3: need to get bread, but I can't get it this way.
- 56:34Speaker 3: You know that, Like, that's what I'm saying. The hood
- 56:36Speaker 3: might It's like to me, that was his selling point.
- 56:38Speaker 3: He's like one of them dudes who's like, yeah, I
- 56:40Speaker 3: want to you know, he's the you know, the worst
- 56:43Speaker 3: of the black panthers, you know, the ones who wanted
- 56:45Speaker 3: to you know, just made some money instead of tearing
- 56:48Speaker 3: down the system.
- 56:49Speaker 1: Since you brought up the worst of the black panthers,
- 56:52Speaker 1: this is what I'm saying. Yeah, when these shows leverage
- 56:57Speaker 1: our imagery, right panthers or imagery of resistance, what they
- 57:02Speaker 1: frequently and almost exclusively show is the worst. That's all
- 57:07Speaker 1: that I'm saying.
- 57:10Speaker 2: I don't think that, like that's it.
- 57:11Speaker 3: I don't think this show is even showing resistance other
- 57:15Speaker 3: than the fact that the queer people, and I get
- 57:17Speaker 3: you one of them should be resistant.
- 57:19Speaker 2: But you know, like ship, you know they called the
- 57:22Speaker 2: four worst you know, all right, what you like, I'm sorry,
- 57:28Speaker 2: you know like that nigga recruited, Well, my man would know.
- 57:32Speaker 3: I mean, my man looked for the worst because it's
- 57:34Speaker 3: also the people who are gonna go along with his
- 57:36Speaker 3: fucking devilish beams like you know, that's.
- 57:38Speaker 1: Why they didn't know. Okay, I don't want to like disagree.
- 57:44Speaker 2: It's the Marvel universe.
- 57:45Speaker 3: If I don't know why you shoot beans out your eyes,
- 57:48Speaker 3: you know, I'm not going along with you because evinceally
- 57:51Speaker 3: those beans out your eyes are coming from me.
- 57:52Speaker 1: He just had a hood, that's it.
- 57:55Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, they all known that he's been
- 57:57Speaker 2: doing wild ship. They've all said that.
- 57:58Speaker 3: They're all like you, I don't know exactly what's up
- 58:01Speaker 3: would do okay, but I'm here for this bread Fostian agreements,
- 58:07Speaker 3: you know, bargains like choices are made man, man, you
- 58:11Speaker 3: need to finish and or because you over here sympathizing
- 58:13Speaker 3: with Cyril like you, Oh, he didn't know everything that
- 58:17Speaker 3: was going on. No, I didn't be pretty much covered.
- 58:22Speaker 3: You know what we liked that didn't dislike about this
- 58:25Speaker 3: these three episodes.
- 58:26Speaker 2: So you know what I liked?
- 58:28Speaker 1: You know what I liked? I liked, I liked and
- 58:34Speaker 1: this was big episode three energy. I liked seeing the
- 58:38Speaker 1: suit fly itself. I like that a lot. While she
- 58:40Speaker 1: went and did something else that was cool, like like
- 58:42Speaker 1: how we could it was it felt like more more rear,
- 58:46Speaker 1: more iron heart, more suit. I liked seeing them move
- 58:49Speaker 1: kind of separate. That was cool.
- 58:51Speaker 2: I really liked it.
- 58:52Speaker 3: Uh, just the whole armor ups that we're getting, because
- 58:55Speaker 3: I know people have been missing that and Marvel like
- 58:57Speaker 3: they're tired of everybody's helmets just materializing on their heads.
- 59:02Speaker 3: And so I think that, you know, it's funny because
- 59:04Speaker 3: a lot of the things that people are mad at
- 59:07Speaker 3: like that, you know, the real haters of this show,
- 59:09Speaker 3: the irrational haters of this show. There's a lot of
- 59:12Speaker 3: things that they're really gonna appreciate because these are the
- 59:14Speaker 3: things that they've been complaining about in general, not just
- 59:16Speaker 3: with this show, but they'll really appreciate, you know, the
- 59:19Speaker 3: whole cause the armor feels clunky, it feels heavy, it
- 59:22Speaker 3: feels real physical.
- 59:24Speaker 2: I really like that. Love.
- 59:25Speaker 3: That's something else I want to shout out is the
- 59:27Speaker 3: effects and just the action in general, Like I really
- 59:30Speaker 3: not expect the action to be this good on this show,
- 59:33Speaker 3: and it's really solid, Like the fights are really well done.
- 59:36Speaker 3: The Blood siblings when they're introducing those shots of them
- 59:39Speaker 3: fucking the dudes up in the mansion is like you
- 59:42Speaker 3: feel that shit, Yeah, And.
- 59:44Speaker 4: When Reby's like out of her suit, like she does
- 59:46Speaker 4: feel vulnerable, Like, yes, what's his name?
- 59:51Speaker 2: John?
- 59:52Speaker 4: Yeah, I was like coming for her, like, yeah, he
- 59:55Speaker 4: was putting up something, but she didn't have exactly all
- 59:58Speaker 4: the hands to be able to take him on. And no,
- 1:00:01Speaker 4: he got cut up a few times, and like you
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: really see, like you know, she's gonna try her best,
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: but that suit is what's protecting her.
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: How did y'all feel about her basically leaving him to die?
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: Yeah, it did seem like she could just grab him. Okay,
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: between Natalie the AI and re Read, y'all couldn't be
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: like you couldn't you was just fighting, you like.
- 1:00:24Speaker 4: Grabbing like it felt like a you know, in the
- 1:00:27Speaker 4: moment fight or flight.
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:00:29Speaker 4: She she's like she was losing oxygen because she couldn't
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: break mine. Might have not been completely focused on like
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: everything going on. She's just like I'm trying to get
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: out and make sure I get out live my dad.
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: Got to feel like, you know, I want to give
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: her a little grace that there was a lot going on.
- 1:00:45Speaker 4: My first thought isn't always let me go save the
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: man that just tried to kill me.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: So I don't know she was worried about that cop.
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: She was very concerned. She was very worried that somebody
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: almost died. It was the cop was almost killed. Oh
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: my god, she was very worried. Meanwhile, somebody who uh
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: was like a part of your little crew who he
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: was also just.
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: Trying to kill her. I was just trying to kill her,
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: but like seconds before, yeah.
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: But like what was she doing? She was not what
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: she was supposed to be. I'm just saying, I don't know.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: It seemed like it seemed like they could have just
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: grabbed him.
- 1:01:17Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: I really felt like she could have just grabbed him.
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: But I'm also there with Joel ways that fight or
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: flight and you know, she ain't got no breath, and
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: the Suit and Natalie are not concerned with do you
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: know straight row They're like, yeah, yeah, whatever being you know,
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: you made that bed.
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: Yeah no, that part of everybody else.
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, she had to convince her to go, yeah
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: for real. So m M Now Suit's like yeah we out.
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: M hmm. That was hard though, I felt from my
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: man when he was like, whe's John, Where's John?
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: John? Yeah?
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: About they just let That's the other thing. They just
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: let the door, close them. That's too much.
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: It was a murder, I mean, straight up a murderer.
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: Yeah, Like I mean, I might have been justified by homicade,
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: but it was definitely homicide.
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: You know, she had like blasted through the roof and
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: then you know easily, like she blasted through the roof
- 1:02:18Speaker 4: to save everybody else.
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: He liker six million ways to die, six million ways
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: to save this man, and she chose none of them.
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: Yeah, that was that was wild. That was wild to me.
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: No, that's like that, And that's the thing that definitely
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: want to get to show credit because it is like
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: it feels like she's following in the footsteps. Like I
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: go back to that line again when you're like you
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: come in here with that iron energy, like that is
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: who she is. You know, she's following in the footsteps
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: of Tony. And you know Tony was a murderer, straight
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: him and down. You know, he murdered so many people
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: in that first Iron Man movie.
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: Hmmm, I don't know, that feels like I don't like
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: that comflation. But you know, all right, I mean all right,
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: she's just like her daddy. No, I mean, just like
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: her white daddy.
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: But look, you know I have.
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: Down the line, it's been you know, hey, you I
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: don't know. I think we did this before and I
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: can't remember, but there were not one avenger. I think
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: that I couldn't counters.
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: The war criminal at some point.
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, like I you know, so you know white
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: black down the line. I think I can't remember this
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: CHILDA did some ship they didn't he I can't remember m.
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. She hasn't she
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: hasn't seen that much battle yet, she hasn't, Like why
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: would she be so aside from her like gold she is.
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: She's she's like, she doesn't.
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: It's that Read Richard's Tony Stark thing where it's like
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: when you're that smart, you you like or you know
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: people like this. I know people too smart for they
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: don't goddamn good and I don't know super geniuses, you know,
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: and when you get to that super genius level, the
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: world looks.
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: Different to you.
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: I don't want to spend thirty minutes talking about why
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: I think that that's not the case, or like I
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: feel like that that's a but it's.
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: Also that is her character, like that whether you feel
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: like that's not the case or not like read Richard
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: and Tony. I mean, all three of them have shown
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: this in the comments in their history to not always
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: make the right choices.
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: Yeah, but the way that you Okay, all right, I
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: don't want to I don't I don't want to get
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: I don't want to spend a lot of time on.
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: This that Joe said it, like, I haven't read her comments,
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: but I know that's read, you know, whole thing.
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: I think that there's a difference between being like too
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: smart for your own good and like sacrificing people's lives.
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: I think that she's still a growing person. A lot
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: of the mistakes that she makes in this series are
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: because she's nineteen twenty years old or whatever trying to
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: figure a lot of shit out leaving you know, and
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: just like anybody at that stage of life, especially if
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: you are no longer like in you know, doing the
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: traditional path of like you graduate high school and then
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: you go to college or whatever, Like it's a period
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: of like figuring shit out. And so I feel like
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: putting on the these concepts that white people have about
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: what it means to be smart and driven or whatever,
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: and like it just feels like it's too soon, Like
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: she might be singular in her focus of like building
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: her machine and like she built it because she could,
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: and like doing these things because she can and why
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: not or whatever? It feels like what to just do
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: it because she can't do it?
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: Like that is you know, that's my biggest problem with
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: a lot of scientists, you know, and are using mean
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: white male scientists when they're just like I did it
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: because I could.
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: That is right, but we're talking right now. Yeah, but
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: she built a suit. It's not where it does matter.
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: It does matter what the coud is. It matters what
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: the coud is, and it matters what's done that I
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: think you.
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: Build a webinar Warmstead that like she built it because
- 1:06:03Speaker 4: she could. But I kind of felt like she said
- 1:06:06Speaker 4: that because she she didn't really want to say like
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: a lot of the real motive like she taught Like
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: I felt like she built the suit as like a
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: response to what happened to Natalie and her stepdad and like, yes,
- 1:06:18Speaker 4: the pathway was let me build an iron Man suit
- 1:06:21Speaker 4: because it's like all the rade right now. At the
- 1:06:24Speaker 4: same time, like she there was a part I don't
- 1:06:26Speaker 4: remember which episode, but there is a part where she
- 1:06:28Speaker 4: mentioned like how this will like revolutionize like first responders,
- 1:06:32Speaker 4: and like, yeah, only someone could have gotten there on time,
- 1:06:36Speaker 4: her step and her stepdad and Nalie would have made it.
- 1:06:38Speaker 4: And so like yeah, she's saying, like I did it
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: because I could. But like a lot of the drive
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: of her technology is because of what happened to Natalie
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: and her stepdad, and like she she does all these
- 1:06:48Speaker 4: technological things, and it's like obsessed with sizes one because
- 1:06:52Speaker 4: she like inherited that from her stepdad and the love
- 1:06:54Speaker 4: of like you know, tinkering and breaking things apart. But
- 1:06:57Speaker 4: like a big part is also she wants to well,
- 1:07:00Speaker 4: she saw how technology could have helped her and like
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: how it could have saved lives, and so that's that's
- 1:07:06Speaker 4: what's driving her to do it, because she feels that
- 1:07:08Speaker 4: guilt of like I couldn't save my stepdad in Natalie's life,
- 1:07:11Speaker 4: and so let me do the thing so that it
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: can it can save somebody's life.
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: And I agree with both of you. I think that's it.
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: And I also think it's because she's young and immature
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: and breathing and dealing with a lot of different things.
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: And I'm not saying that it's like she's following the
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: path of the White Man. I'm just saying that she
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: does say I did it because I could, and the
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: whole you know, I doing this because I know that this.
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: Will help first responders, et cetera. It's the same thing
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: that Tony said, I'm gonna build a suit of armor
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: around the world.
- 1:07:43Speaker 3: It's like, you know, they do these things, but that
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: and that goes back to Tony in the comments, like
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: he makes the suits and then it falls into the
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: wrong hands and someone does bad with it. It's you know, Ironmonger,
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: It's the same thing, and it's like that's where she
- 1:07:59Speaker 3: is failing, and we'll see where it goes.
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: But she's young and you.
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: Know all the other things we just said, but she's
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: making some of these same choices and saying some of
- 1:08:08Speaker 3: these same things. I don't feel like she's saying it
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: in the same way that the white dude says when
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: she's like, I did it because I could. But I
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: also feel like it's not taking into account what could happen,
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: you know, by doing these type of things. And that's
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: what I think the show was going to get into,
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: and we'll see in the next few episodes as well.
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: Yes, I also just want to point out that Tony
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: start not making a suit compared to like the choice
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: for Tony to decide, Okay, I'm not I'm going to
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: pack it up and not make the suit and use
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: my you know, time and money for good for something else.
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: It's different, make right, Yes, she says, right, she said, And.
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: That's what I That's what I said this earlier.
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: That's what I said, is that she's forced to make
- 1:08:56Speaker 3: a suit because that's the only way the white world
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: will recognize her is because she you know, she's like,
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: no one cares about me if I go and do
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: all this other stuff I could do, but if I
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: made the suit, everyone pays attention.
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: So well, white people pay attention. If we're talking about
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: the specific thing.
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: Money pays attention. Yeah, the money pays attention. Yes, Yes,
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: I'm not like you.
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: I'm never disagree with you.
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: I'm just also telling you like it's you know, it's
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: also you know, like the reality of certain thing is
- 1:09:32Speaker 3: like that's what I always drove back to Real Estate,
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: you know, in six episodes and thirty eight minutes per
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: you know, like they did not get mad ship with this,
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: you know, because credits is like you know, eight nine
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: minutes of this right, Like these joints is half hour
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: episodes for the most part, and you know that's what
- 1:09:51Speaker 3: Marvel gave them, and they did a lot in that,
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: you know time, Like I'm giving them, you know, some
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: you know love.
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: I get it, they can't do everything.
- 1:09:59Speaker 3: And and then and they're also dealing with you know,
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: the fucking current ship where it's like they're not going
- 1:10:04Speaker 3: to say anything, but you know, for what they are doing,
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: I'm giving them a lot.
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: I'm really loving this show. Any last words before we're
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: out of here.
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: I did want to say, like the show is teaching us,
- 1:10:15Speaker 4: don't uplift white man, you know, like they don't they
- 1:10:18Speaker 4: don't need that support. They don't they don't need that
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: kind of like don't nothing. Don't give them your time
- 1:10:25Speaker 4: because they will, they'll betray you.
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: Where's the white man?
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: That boy was in it. He's in the first three
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: episodes Alten, Bob or whatever the heck? That boy his
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: name is, Oh no.
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: He it's revealed Obadiah's things found his existence.
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: To be very annoying.
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: Wow, yeah, I love them. That was like a big
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: moment for me.
- 1:10:47Speaker 3: I just loved, you know, any connection to Obadiah and
- 1:10:50Speaker 3: I thought that was really dope how they brought that in.
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: I didn't think it was like a heavy handed moment.
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I was relieved when I was like, oh, that's
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: who he is, but like the lead up to that,
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: and like the him, you know, learning how to stand
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: up for himself because of his encounter with ree Wee,
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: that also kind of was like, okay, it was I
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: just didn't Yeah, I just didn't. And listen, the reality
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: is white people meet us every day and they're like wow,
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: you know, and learn something. So that's that's a reality.
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: But also I just didn't feel like I needed that
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: to be, you know, to be a part of this.
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: But that's not I'm not saying that, you know, I don't.
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: I know, I don't. I don't want to.
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: I don't want to.
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: I don't want to, you know, I don't want to
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: say so it's not like it's a bad thing. But
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: for me, yes, I did find his existence annoying. And
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: the amount of time we spent with that white woman's
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: dog pooping on his lawn was like, okay, you know,
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: we just we spent too much time. We just spent
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: too much time with him.
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: That minute.
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: No, I just think we spent a little bit too
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: much time with him.
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: In that way.
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: I liked him as a benefactor, like as somebody who
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: could fund what she's trying to do. But the other
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: this stuff was like, oh my gosh, you know.
- 1:12:03Speaker 4: But I don't.
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: Hey, hey, hey, everybody did a great job. Every it
