- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here. It's Monday the 14th of April.
- 0:16Great to have your company as we begin Holy Week.
- 0:20That's right, this is the week of morning, Thursday, Good
- 0:23Friday, Easter Saturday, and then of course the glorious, the
- 0:28wonderful Easter Sunday. But we have got, oh, we've got
- 0:32days to go before we get there. And we are going to be up in
- 0:35that upper room with Jesus and then follow him and his
- 0:39disciples as Jesus treads that difficult road to and from
- 0:44Calgary. That is all to come this week,
- 0:46friends. But today, today we begin with
- 0:50another one of the I AM statements, which then leads to
- 0:54my very own confirmation verse which follows on after that.
- 0:57So this is a special one for me. But boy, oh boy, as a disciple
- 1:02of our Lord, this is a special one for all of us.
- 1:03So let us read together John chapter 15.
- 1:18I am the true Grapevine and my father is the gardener.
- 1:22He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn't produce fruit, and
- 1:26he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce
- 1:30even more. You have already been pruned and
- 1:34purified by the message I have given you.
- 1:37Remain in me and I will remain in you, For a branch cannot
- 1:42produce fruit if it's severed from the vine, and you cannot be
- 1:47fruitful unless you remain in me.
- 1:51Yes, I am the vine, You are the branches.
- 1:55Those who remain in me, and I in them will produce much fruit,
- 2:00for apart from Me you can do nothing.
- 2:03Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless
- 2:08branch, and Withers. Such branches are gathered into
- 2:12a pile to be burned. But if you remain in Me and My
- 2:17words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it
- 2:21will be granted when you produce much fruit.
- 2:25You are My true disciples. This brings great glory to My
- 2:30Father. I have loved you even as the
- 2:33Father has loved me. Remain in My love.
- 2:38When you obey My commandments. You remain in My love, just as I
- 2:43obey My Father's commandments and remain in His love.
- 2:47I've told you these things so that you will be filled with my
- 2:50joy. Yes, your joy will overflow.
- 2:54This is my commandment. Love each other in the same way
- 2:58I have loved you. There is no greater love than to
- 3:03lay down one's life for one's friends.
- 3:07You are my friends if you do what I command.
- 3:11I no longer call you slaves because the Master doesn't
- 3:14confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends.
- 3:18Since I have told you everything the Father told me.
- 3:22You didn't choose me, I chose you.
- 3:25I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit so that
- 3:30the Father will give you whatever you ask for using my
- 3:33name. This is my command.
- 3:37Love each other. If the world hates you, remember
- 3:41that it hated me first. The world would love you as one
- 3:46of its own if you belonged to it, but you were no longer part
- 3:50of the world. I chose you to come out of the
- 3:53world, so it hates you. Do you remember what I told you?
- 3:58A slave is not greater than the master.
- 4:01Since they have persecuted me, naturally they will persecute
- 4:06you. And if they had listened to me,
- 4:09they would listen to you. They will do all this to you
- 4:13because of Me, for they have rejected the One who sent me.
- 4:18They would not be guilty if I had not come and spoken to them,
- 4:22but now they have no excuse for their sin.
- 4:26Anyone who hates me also hates my father.
- 4:29If I hadn't done such miraculous signs among them that no one
- 4:33else could do, I would not be guilty.
- 4:36But as it is, they have seen everything I did, yet they still
- 4:41hate me and my father. This fulfils what is written in
- 4:46their scriptures. They hated me without cause.
- 4:51But I will send you the Advocate, the Spirit of truth.
- 4:56He will come to you from the Father and will testify all
- 4:59about me. And you must also testify about
- 5:03me, because you have been with me from the beginning of my
- 5:06ministry. Oh, Jesus, we want nothing more
- 5:19than to remain in you, to stay close to you in your embrace
- 5:25each step of our lives. And you say in this room to your
- 5:30disciples, to us. And the way we stay close to you
- 5:35is by following your commandments to us.
- 5:38And so clearly in this chapter, you tell us that we should be
- 5:42people of love to love one another, Our Lord, that you
- 5:48would please come into our hearts and fill them with your
- 5:52love so that when our love falls short, your love takes over.
- 5:57And that we can love freely all the people around us,
- 6:00particularly those Lord, you know, you know, the ones I'm
- 6:03talking about who were just difficult to love.
- 6:06And we find it so challenging. Oh Jesus, expand our hearts,
- 6:11expand our capacity to love so that we truly can remain in you
- 6:17and follow your commandment of love.
- 6:21Thank you for first loving us against the odds when we hated
- 6:26you along with the world, You just loved us nonetheless.
- 6:30Thank you for that show stopping, world changing love.
- 6:35We are so grateful for you and for your love for us.
- 6:38And so we praise you, and we pray all of this in your loving
- 6:42name, Jesus.
