- 1:06Well, hello everybody. Welcome to Conversations with
- 1:09Yvette. Happy Sunday.
- 1:11Hopefully everybody's had a great weekend.
- 1:15I have a wonderful guest waiting in the wings.
- 1:17But before we get to him, a couple of books I wanted to give
- 1:22a shout out to. So the first one is by a
- 1:25previous guest, author Michael Alexander Payne, also a veteran
- 1:30Unshaken Resolve. You can find this book on
- 1:33Amazon. A wonderful read, a wonderful
- 1:36guest. Second, a big shout out to my
- 1:40friend Tim Thomas, also a veteran out of Australia, and he
- 1:44sent me a book, his book called Fight Flight Feel.
- 1:49And again, this is another wonderful book from a veteran
- 1:53all the way across into Australia.
- 1:55So big shout out to Tim. Thank you.
- 1:57So thank you very much. And if you're interested in
- 1:59getting that book, you can contact me at Conversations with
- 2:02a Vet and I will get you the information on how you can get
- 2:06one. So please help me welcome my
- 2:09guest, Bo Ramsey. Hello.
- 2:13Hello, how are you this evening? Doing well?
- 2:17How are you? I'm doing great.
- 2:19Thank you so very much for joining tonight.
- 2:23I appreciate it. I know you've been pretty busy,
- 2:26lots of lots of things going on. So let me ask you this.
- 2:33It's not. It's a question I ask all my
- 2:34guests right out the out the gate is to tell me a little bit
- 2:38about who Beau was as a child. Oh, as a child, like most, just
- 2:45rambunctious, always trying to see what made things work.
- 2:50I'd take, I'd tear things apart, not even knowing how to put them
- 2:54back together. And most of the time couldn't
- 2:57put them back together. But I just wanted to know the
- 3:00internal workings. I I always wanted to excel,
- 3:03always wanted to be something better than what I was before.
- 3:07So sports was always big. I would wrestle, I would play
- 3:11football, baseball. Tried basketball.
- 3:14Not the best at it, but that's what I would.
- 3:18Do nice And was the military something that you'd always
- 3:23wanted to do, or was it just something that popped into your
- 3:28mind? What was it that made you decide
- 3:30to join the military, and specifically the branch that you
- 3:33chose? Well, my, my dad, he, he had
- 3:38joined the Navy and, and went through boot camp and became a
- 3:41corpsman. And my, my uncle, he was a Recon
- 3:46in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
- 3:49And I'd always, you know, kind of had some, some talk around it
- 3:53and everything. And I, I was kind of torn
- 3:56between the sports, playing sports at college or where
- 4:00they're going in the military, got actually hooked up to go do
- 4:06the workouts for football for the summer and decided, hey,
- 4:13yeah, this ain't what I want to do.
- 4:15And I knew right then, hey, I contacted a Marine Corps
- 4:19recruiter. He came out to the house, he
- 4:22talked to me. And two days later, I'm I'm at
- 4:24Parris Island. Two days, holy cow.
- 4:29And so with that, so within two days like you didn't do anything
- 4:36in advance any kind of that early.
- 4:40I'd signed up for the the I guess they got.
- 4:43Delayed entry. Yes, the delayed entry program
- 4:46with another guy, the, the recruiter called me and said,
- 4:50hey, there's been a, a opening up to come if you want to go
- 4:54right now, then let's go. And I was like, I do I really
- 4:59want to do it or do I want to continue?
- 5:02And it just something in my head said, hey, let's let's go with
- 5:05it. And so that's what I did, and
- 5:09out I went. So when you signed the papers to
- 5:13go. Yes.
- 5:15Did you have an open contract or did you have a specific MOS that
- 5:19you signed up for? Well, listening to my uncle and,
- 5:24and some of the stuff he went through, I, I wanted to go
- 5:27infantry. That's where I wanted to go.
- 5:30So that's, that's what I went through.
- 5:35I I want to go 311 the whole way.
- 5:38OK. When you first step off that
- 5:42bus, so we're going back a little ways, it's going to
- 5:45stretch that memory. What was going through your mind
- 5:50when they first step on the bus and they are yelling for you to
- 5:53get off and get off? What?
- 5:55I was nervous, you know, getting on the bus.
- 5:58I'm like, yo, what am I getting into?
- 6:01And we, we take the drive. I'm just, I'm nervous and the
- 6:05drive there looking out the windows, I finally fall asleep.
- 6:09Next thing I know the lights come on, they're up on the bus,
- 6:12they're screaming, hey, get off. And it it just, you know, it's
- 6:20like, what have I got into so that we get off, get on the
- 6:24yellow footprints. And it was chaos from that that
- 6:29point on. I bet it was.
- 6:32And did you give any thought to stepping on to those yellow
- 6:37footprints in the history of those who stood on it before
- 6:43you? Well, like I said, my uncle and
- 6:47everything that he did during Vietnam, that's always been
- 6:51something through my childhood that I've cherished because I
- 6:57know that, you know, when they, when they served, they came home
- 7:00and it wasn't something that they actually came home to
- 7:04people with open arms. When they came back, they were
- 7:08sometimes spit on as as he was. They were called names and
- 7:13everything. And it, it was one of those, it
- 7:19hurt. But I knew what he he sacrificed
- 7:22and what he thought because although he wouldn't talk about
- 7:25it a lot, there were things that he would he would mention.
- 7:31It wasn't until after boot camp that he really opened up to a
- 7:35lot with me. Which makes a lot of sense, I
- 7:40think. And you know, the fact that he
- 7:42probably felt like you now have an understanding you're, you're
- 7:46one of the brothers, if you will.
- 7:51So tell me about boot camp. What?
- 7:56What was that like for you? Oh, you're talking about Paris
- 7:59Island? Yes.
- 8:03There was a lot of it that I really enjoyed the structure.
- 8:09I I really like that. You know, we knew what we were
- 8:11doing, where we were going. They had to some of it's
- 8:18reflective and some of it is is actually, you know, I, I knew
- 8:21before going that they were going to be hard.
- 8:23They're going to be pushing you. Everything they got, just like
- 8:27through wrestling and football, they're trying to get everything
- 8:30that they're trying to get out of you, put you in real life
- 8:33situations the best they can. But the actually being in there
- 8:42with all these guys that are going through the same thing
- 8:45though that the moments that they had and, and just trying to
- 8:57understand, you know, this is what they're trying to get from
- 9:01me. They're they're doing it in
- 9:02unorthodox ways, but they're trying to instill in you
- 9:06discipline and try to put pressure on you so that you can
- 9:10perform under pressure. So I knew that to begin with.
- 9:16So it was one of those things that I enjoyed the Brotherhood
- 9:22of Boot Camp. I thought it was weird because
- 9:25we never really could communicate together and
- 9:29everything because when we start to talk, oh, no talking, no
- 9:33talking or this that. But yeah, you could feel because
- 9:37we're all going through the same things.
- 9:39We're all, you know, getting in trouble for the same things.
- 9:42If it I, I was one of those that, you know, when the the
- 9:45drums started to come up and say something, I thought it was
- 9:47funny. So I would laugh and I would
- 9:49have to start, I'd have to start doing push ups and crunches and
- 9:54everything. And then all of a sudden they
- 9:56come up and say, all right, you, you need to pick somebody out of
- 9:59the line to, to come up and help you out.
- 10:02And that put me in a bad position because here I laughed
- 10:04and did that. Now I got to get somebody up
- 10:06there and pay for my, my bad. So that made me feel like, you
- 10:11know, I need to watch myself so that I'm not getting somebody
- 10:14else, you know, and vice versa. It just you, you build a
- 10:20brotherhood with that, that it's through unorthodox waves, but
- 10:26it's like nothing else. Even today, we, we stay in
- 10:30touch. The the beauty of social media
- 10:33and everything is that, Hey, I can, I can send them a, a text
- 10:38or send them a, you know, something they can get back with
- 10:41me. So I love it, you know, But that
- 10:45that was, that was my Paris island.
- 10:49What was the hardest part for you of becoming a Marine?
- 10:56Getting past myself really, you know, with wrestling, football,
- 11:01I've been pushed to limits. But with the Marine Corps and,
- 11:05and actually boot camp, they, they took me to where I thought
- 11:13my limit was. They took me past that and so
- 11:16far beyond. They show me that I had so much
- 11:18more to give. They, they show me that, you
- 11:21know, my leadership skills, my everything.
- 11:27It's, it's, it's amazing that, you know, they can take 18 to 23
- 11:34year old kids and, and put that much discipline, that much just
- 11:43instruction into them and, and, and give them that confidence
- 11:47that they can do what they want to.
- 11:48And that's, that's what it did for me.
- 11:55I really, I, it's one of those things that I tell, tell my
- 12:00kids, you know, it's, it's, it's not the good things that I
- 12:03remember the most. It's the things that really were
- 12:06the worst and sorry for lack of words, sucked.
- 12:10But. You're good.
- 12:12But those are the things that I remember the most because they
- 12:17changed me and they made me the person that I am because I was
- 12:20able to live through them, adapt and and be better than the the
- 12:25problems that I have and. That's wonderful.
- 12:29So when did you first truly feel like you earned the title of
- 12:34Marine? We didn't have the Crucible
- 12:41then, so we didn't actually do a Crucible and they they hand over
- 12:45the EGA. So it wasn't until actually the
- 12:49graduation day, we on the parade that that when it was done and
- 12:54over that, you know, I've, I've made it, I can breathe.
- 13:00And then the whole realization that, hey, this was just the
- 13:03beginning. I've got a whole different thing
- 13:09going that I don't have no idea where I'm going to be sent.
- 13:13I don't have no idea really what I'm going to be doing, you know,
- 13:18other than I'm infantry. So here we go.
- 13:22Right. So rolling into that, where did
- 13:25your Marine Corps career take you first?
- 13:29First, because it was infantry, it took me to Camp Geiger and
- 13:34Camp Geiger was it was great. It was a little small.
- 13:40Had a, had a, the barracks type, you know, with all the people
- 13:45and we would do a lot of infantry skills, the, the, with
- 13:49the rifle, we would go out and actually set up defenses,
- 13:54offenses and learn the different things from fire team to squad
- 14:01to platoon, just the basics of what we're going to be doing
- 14:07later on as we engage into our infantry lifestyle.
- 14:13So it was good. I, I was actually, we had a guy
- 14:19that I actually spent some time with their French Florin Legion.
- 14:22And he, he, he, we used to call him humps when we would go on
- 14:27long hikes. So he'd call him humps.
- 14:29So, and he would do it barefooted.
- 14:32And I was like, how do you do this?
- 14:34You know, I get blisters all over my feet and everything and
- 14:37there you're doing it barefooted.
- 14:39And but that's that's one of the things that I remember about
- 14:43Camp Geiger more than anything. That's amazing, That's amazing.
- 14:49From there, what was your next location that you that you went
- 14:55to? From Camp Geiger I went to MCBH
- 15:03Hawaii Connie Oi Bay. Wow.
- 15:07Yes, I was a Connie Oi Bay and with Third Battalion, Third
- 15:15Marines, Kilo Company and Manly. It was a, it was a outweighting
- 15:24experience. Well, I show up on an island and
- 15:32it's, it's just about dark, so you can't see anything.
- 15:35And then they take us over to the base and it, it looks
- 15:40amazing, sounds amazing. And you go up there and you're
- 15:44supposed to check in. So I go to check in, nobody's
- 15:49there and they're like, well, you're good, we'll come back.
- 15:54And so I'm like, OK, what do you what I do now?
- 15:59So then I had to check in the next day and it was I could see
- 16:07all around and, and Hawaii's awesome, especially back then.
- 16:11I went back probably five years ago to Marine Corps Base Hawaii
- 16:15and it is totally different. It is, there's so many buildings
- 16:20there that I, I didn't recognize really.
- 16:23I was like, you know, this is where I believe our place used
- 16:26to be, but I can't for honestly tell you that's where it was.
- 16:32So it was, it was good and checking in was good.
- 16:39We were short on staffing NC OS during the time.
- 16:43I guess the billets were, were short or they just let some
- 16:47people off. So for the longest time Lance
- 16:52corporals and above are basically is Lance corporals and
- 16:58below you had a few corporals, a few sergeants and there were no
- 17:03staff, maybe a one or two gunny and that that was it.
- 17:10So you had it. At times, corporals and Lance
- 17:14corporals fight, filling up squad and platoon Sergeant
- 17:18positions. That's nuts.
- 17:22It it is but. When you think about, I mean
- 17:25like today, right, and you compare it to today's world.
- 17:29So that's a lot of responsibility for a Lance
- 17:35Corporal and a corporal. It, it, it really was.
- 17:39But the the guys that that I know that did it and everything,
- 17:44they were great. They knew their jobs.
- 17:47They worked hard in it and it it just ran smooth.
- 17:52Like I said, you're taking 1823 year old people and they're
- 17:55putting out there and man, they're rocking and rolling with
- 17:57everything they've got. That's why I love the military.
- 18:01That's why I love my guys. They take it serious and it's
- 18:07just when you when you do that, then you, you are awesome and
- 18:12so. So tell me about how well, how
- 18:18long were you there for? Oh, that's one of those where we
- 18:22would deploy out, come back, deploy out, come back and we do
- 18:26different things for the total I was there from 94 to 98, OK.
- 18:37But during the, during the time we would go to Okinawa and we do
- 18:43a six month thing there. We went to Australia, we went to
- 18:48Alaska, we went to Korea, We were all over different places.
- 18:56So it was one of those things I knew about infantry was that,
- 19:02hey, you're going to go see the world.
- 19:04It's it's, you're going to be great.
- 19:06So, but we were probably 6 months or so every time we come
- 19:13back in actually Hawaii. OK.
- 19:18All right. So out of all of those locations
- 19:21that you were deployed to, did you have a favorite?
- 19:26Oh, for different reasons. There's there's a couple of
- 19:31different. Australia was great because it
- 19:34had so many different environments.
- 19:39I guess you could, you had the Tully jungle, you had a desert,
- 19:43you had, you know, just different things that were
- 19:46there. The people were awesome.
- 19:52So that was great. Alaska, you go there and then
- 19:56you're you're flying through the helicopters through all these
- 19:58river and you're, you're just looking at the scenery and it's,
- 20:03it's, it's beautiful. It's like.
- 20:06Where can you pay for this type of it's, it's a, you know,
- 20:11awesome. And then you get out on the
- 20:13ground and it's it's quagmire and it's kind of moving with you
- 20:16like a water bed. So yeah, it it's hard to say
- 20:24really a favorite because they each different.
- 20:26I'll tell you, the one I didn't like the most was Korea.
- 20:30We were there during the winter and it was raining.
- 20:33It was freezing. And we'd get warm chow.
- 20:39And when we get to the actual chow in it, it was raining on
- 20:43it. And by the time you got it, it
- 20:44was cold. So it was always your, your
- 20:49camies were frozen, your socks were frozen.
- 20:53Everything we tried to do, just, you know, it was, it was good
- 20:56training, but it it was not fun. All right.
- 21:04And what was your total length of time in service?
- 21:08Four years, Four years active. Four years in active.
- 21:13So what is something about your Marine Corps experience that
- 21:17people who haven't served would probably never understand?
- 21:24The the level of brotherhood that you you get just by earning
- 21:30the Eagle globe and anchor. It's it's a fraternity that you,
- 21:41you, you, you can find people that you are, are are Marine.
- 21:46They're in the Marines without ever asking, you know, it's just
- 21:51one of those things that you know, you know, you're a
- 21:53brother. You can feel it.
- 21:55I you, you were a Marine club, yes.
- 21:58Who'd you serve with? You know, it's one of those
- 22:01things. And then once, once you even see
- 22:04them, you know, it's like you served your whole life with
- 22:08them. They're your best bud and your
- 22:11friends From then on, it's it's my my wife, kids all the time.
- 22:17She goes. You you can smell them out, you
- 22:19know, and you, you're sitting all the way across the board.
- 22:22And how'd you know he was a Marine?
- 22:24It's like, yeah, you know, it's just one of those things.
- 22:28Kind of have the air about you. A lot of Marines have that air
- 22:34about them, right? More outspoken than some other
- 22:40branches too. Yeah, Yeah.
- 22:43Well. And I'm not saying that's a bad
- 22:44thing, just so you know. So with that, some of the most
- 22:56funny or memorable stories that you know you might be able to
- 23:01share from your time in the core.
- 23:06Oh, there's we were on a this, this was in Alaska one time the
- 23:17we were doing a fourteen click movement force on force against
- 23:21the Army, and it was supposed to have lasted a week.
- 23:27And we came across a people in a defence that were set up for
- 23:35army and we snuck in. We, they had their, their
- 23:43netting up and everything, but they weren't around any of their
- 23:46stuff. So we came in, we, we stole a
- 23:50lot of their ammunition, their, their, their stuff and took it
- 23:55off and, and brought it back. And that fourteen click force on
- 24:02force got called quick and we were going to be awarded for,
- 24:09for doing it. And the, the CEO had got us some
- 24:11beer and put it in the building and we're next day we're going
- 24:17to have a big party and some Marines decided they didn't want
- 24:22to wait on it. So they break in to the building
- 24:25and steal that beer. And so we went back to work the
- 24:31next day instead of having having a party.
- 24:34So it's one of those things that, you know, Marines adapt,
- 24:37overcome, and we acquire stuff through, you know, yeah, it's
- 24:44just what they what they did. That's pretty funny.
- 24:50So tell me how your military service affected your family.
- 24:57I don't know. Well, my when I was growing up,
- 25:04they did my, I don't know how it affected them really, other than
- 25:09I didn't get to come home. But my family now, it's affected
- 25:13them because my son actually joined the Marine Corps and he
- 25:18went into heavy equipment and he had a good, he had a good run at
- 25:24that. So that's that.
- 25:30I think that's one of my big prides is that, you know, my son
- 25:33is a Marine also. That's awesome.
- 25:37Yeah. And Speaking of the next
- 25:43generation going back, going into the military, if somebody
- 25:52was thinking about or considering joining the Marine
- 25:56Corps, what things would you tell them?
- 26:02Do it. I encourage everybody, not just
- 26:09the young, but even if you're older and can fit the age range
- 26:14or whatever, take that, get that experience, get the, get the,
- 26:22the confidence that comes with actually serving and, and the
- 26:27pride that comes with knowing that you were willing to give
- 26:31everything that you had for the country that we're, we're
- 26:34America's beautiful. We we have so many rights and
- 26:39liberties that come, but it's by price and it's by the price of
- 26:43the people that were willing to put their name down for, you
- 26:47know, doing exactly what, you know, serving.
- 26:53So, you know, some of them served through peacetime, some
- 26:57of them served through war, but they were all willing at any
- 27:00time to give their life for what they believed in.
- 27:03And that is, you know, the rights that we live by today.
- 27:09So let's go back a little bit to when you made the decision that
- 27:13you wanted to separate out from the Marine Corps.
- 27:19What what made you decide you wanted to leave and what was it
- 27:24like for you as far as resources that were provided?
- 27:33The resources were OK. I think they probably could have
- 27:36been a little better. And when my son got out, it was
- 27:39actually better than when I did the, the, the reasons, I guess
- 27:51some of what there were new people coming in that say
- 28:03challenge authority a little bit.
- 28:07And there were there were older Marines that were getting busted
- 28:11down for doing basically. And it was.
- 28:25I kind of lost your audio a little.
- 28:35So that was. Oh, there you are, one of the
- 28:37part. One of the issues.
- 28:42We kind of lost your audio a little bit.
- 28:45So that kind of I was like, do I want to make a career out of
- 28:48this when they're having such a hard time with that?
- 28:56OK. And what was the biggest lesson
- 29:02that you carried from the Marines into civilian life?
- 29:10Can you hear me? Oh, can you hear me?
- 29:20Sorry, I wouldn't. Are you there?
- 29:27Can you hear me now? Are you there?
- 29:30Can you hear me? Hello.
- 29:31Can you hear me? Hello.
- 29:32Yeah, I can hear you. I'm sorry.
- 29:34I can hear me too. I can hear me too, Echo.
- 29:45How about now? Can you still hear me?
- 29:52Can you still hear me, Bo? I can hear you, but I apologize
- 29:58trying to figure out how to put it off of that so.
- 30:08Should be able to put it. Maybe just should be able to put
- 30:10it. Maybe just just on.
- 30:15Hit the speaker on your. I apologize.
- 30:30How about how about now Nope? How about now?
- 30:33Nope. Well, I can hear you, but go
- 30:38ahead. Are we good?
- 30:41Well, we, I think we have. I think we have, we have an
- 30:47echo. Are you still with me, Echo?
- 30:55Go with me. Yes.
- 30:59OK. I guess we're we're just going
- 31:01to have to power through. So apologies, everybody is out
- 31:04there to power through. So apologies, everybody is out
- 31:07there. You're going to hear it twice.
- 31:11You're going to hear it twice. Sorry.
- 31:15All right, if you could, if you could tell us what Semper Fi
- 31:23means to you. Means to you beyond the words
- 31:29beyond the words. Beyond the words, Semper Fidelis
- 31:36always faithful. That means that we are going to
- 31:41be there for you. We're going to like it goes back
- 31:46to the Brotherhood and it it it transcends generations.
- 31:52Actually, we've actually took a a group of the Marine Corps
- 31:57League up to Washington, DC and we visited the museum.
- 32:04We visited all the, all the different things had had a great
- 32:11time and, and, and actually discussed, you know, the, the
- 32:17cauldron, you know, that we, we would pass and, and it was a it
- 32:26was an embracement, not just from the Vietnam area people the
- 32:34all the way through to present day.
- 32:36And, and we, we, we were, it's just an acknowledgement that,
- 32:42Hey, I'm, I've got your back and I'll always be there for you.
- 32:48And that that's what it is. Hey, it's, it's not just a word.
- 32:52It's, it's a, it's an oath that is inbred into you.
- 32:59And, and I feel it because I still get messages from my, my
- 33:04friends that'll surprise me all the time.
- 33:08So hey, we're going to come down, we're, we're going to give
- 33:10you this or hey, I'm, I'm thinking about you or you know,
- 33:16so it is always faithful. It's always there.
- 33:23And what does the Eagle, Globe and Anchor mean to you in your
- 33:28life today? In your life today.
- 33:32Oh, pride. I can see the EGA and it's it's
- 33:39just something that I have pride for myself.
- 33:44I have pride for my country and I have pride for if if somebody
- 33:47else displaying it, I have pride for them because I know what
- 33:50they gave to to get that ETAI know what it means to them.
- 33:54I know what it means to to the country.
- 33:59So that's that's one of those things for the ETA.
- 34:05And what would you say to a veteran who might be, what would
- 34:08you say to find their place, who might be struggling to find
- 34:11their place after service? After service, reach out 22
- 34:18strong, you know, we, you know, there's always somebody that's
- 34:22going to be there. Everybody's got their daily life
- 34:27and and it pulls you away from from what you think you need to
- 34:34do, but you can never be there enough for somebody.
- 34:39So reach out, talk to them. You'll find help in different
- 34:43different avenues, different ways, people that you never
- 34:46thought and it it transcends the services.
- 34:51It's not just Marine Corps, it's not just Air Force Navy.
- 34:55We give up. We give each branch our own
- 34:57little different, you know, hazy, you know, I, you know, the
- 35:05department of this see, y'all are just a, a shuttle for us,
- 35:09you know, and this and that. But when it comes down to it, we
- 35:12all did the same thing. We, we put our hand over there
- 35:14and said, hey, we're going to take care of America.
- 35:16We're going to take care of the people that are there.
- 35:19And that's what it was about. So reach out because we all love
- 35:24each other and love the service that we had and that's what we
- 35:27want to take care of. We're we're one person, one
- 35:30nation, and it's under God. Tell me for you, how was it when
- 35:36you came back? Anticipate back.
- 35:39Did you already have a job? Did you already have a job in
- 35:42place? I, I did not, not when I first
- 35:46came back. And it was one of those I still
- 35:51confident because, you know, the Marines put in that I, you can
- 35:55do anything. You can tackle a tank if you
- 35:58want to. So I, I knew that, you know, I,
- 36:03I'd be OK. And I, I joined the, the
- 36:08Sheriff's Department and it was just a good fit.
- 36:12It's one of those things that I I did well in and and was able
- 36:18to thrive through. How long did you were you in the
- 36:23Sheriff's Department? In the Sheriff's Department.
- 36:25I started as a jailer right in 98 and I did everything from Rd.
- 36:34officer, investigations, captain, chief, deputy and I
- 36:40retired in 2024. Nice.
- 36:43Nice, nice, nice. What do you think?
- 36:50Communities, communities better to support our veterans, To
- 36:55support our veterans. One thing that I I've seen
- 37:01through the years is that finding a place, I, I've been a,
- 37:08a big part of the Marine Corps League.
- 37:10I've been the VFW, I've seen the and and discussed with the
- 37:17American Legion and everything as far as that Somebody knows to
- 37:26go to go to find these people. Where do they go to actually
- 37:33talk to somebody? I would love to see a A by my
- 37:41county, a place that housed VFW, American Legion, the Marine
- 37:49Corps League, all in one place and, and a veteran can go there
- 37:53and say, hey, I want to be a part of this organization so
- 37:56that I can continue my brotherhood.
- 37:58I continue my service to my community.
- 38:01I can, you know, just just be a part of that again.
- 38:09So I would that's one to see in in a brick and mortar area where
- 38:18they can go. Right, because I noticed a lot
- 38:22more VFW are closing. There's a lot more VFW are
- 38:26closing. Yes.
- 38:29And I, I, I wondered if this is just a, a thought for mine
- 38:33because we unfortunately our, our V Vietnam Veterans, the VVA,
- 38:42they, they are getting older than dying out and they're
- 38:49dissolving. So that's going and a lot of
- 38:51those were core members within our VFW's and our American
- 38:55Legions and and other the other establishments.
- 39:00So we need to find a way to bridge those gaps between those
- 39:05to keep these veteran service organizations open for, for the
- 39:09ones that need something to continue and give them that that
- 39:16that brotherhood that they had before.
- 39:21What resources are you familiar with or aware of in your area?
- 39:31Oh, well, look like we have VS OS.
- 39:33Yeah, we have VS OS in my area. We have some at the county
- 39:40administration office that they will sign you up and when you
- 39:44get out for medical, they'll help you fill out paperwork for
- 39:49education, home loan, all kinds of different things.
- 39:52If you go on to theva.com, you got so many different other
- 39:58things you can actually get emails that that send you
- 40:03updates on everything. So in today's world where the
- 40:08Internet as is a influx of information for so many
- 40:16different things. But in our area, the VA, the.
- 40:24The American Legion, VFW, we got the Marine Corps League and that
- 40:34those are the ones that that we have here.
- 40:38Nice. If anybody in the comments has
- 40:43any questions for go for Beau, go ahead and get those foot out
- 40:47there for me now. Go ahead and get those foot out
- 40:49there for me now. So Jason says thank you for your
- 40:56time and service, Sir. Thank you for your time and
- 40:58service, Sir. Semper Fi.
- 41:00Semper Fi. Tim Timothy says semper fi Bo.
- 41:04Timothy says semper fi Bo. Super fine.
- 41:09Jason says also that Alaska is on the bucket list.
- 41:11Also that Alaska is on the bucket list for him.
- 41:15I and from the central central Alaska to the the the shoreline
- 41:22is two different Alaskas too. We went back for a cruise and it
- 41:26was totally different. Oh wow, my grandmother was the
- 41:30grandmother for the 49er for the 49er in Alaska.
- 41:35In Alaska. Nice, yeah.
- 41:37Yeah, yeah. Let's see.
- 41:41Did I miss anything? What words do you want to share
- 41:46with people about veterans that you think people should know?
- 41:52Do you think people should know? Wow.
- 41:57People should know, I guess if I was putting it in the aspect of
- 42:05what we've been talking about, I would say Memorial Day, really
- 42:10reflect back on that and, and think about the, the honors and
- 42:15privileges that we are afforded every day of our life.
- 42:19The people that we, we pay respects for, they're the ones
- 42:24that we owe everything we have. They laid, they laid their lives
- 42:29down. They they paid the ultimate
- 42:32sacrifice so that we can gripe about things that that, you
- 42:37know, really they didn't have a chance to.
- 42:40So please take that time to reflect back and, and honor not
- 42:45only the the the ones that lost their lives, but the families
- 42:49that lost the loved one because they also paid that ultimate
- 42:56sacrifice of losing a lot of loved one.
- 43:01And then, you know, every veteran that you'll ever come
- 43:06across was something else. Proud to serve pretty much.
- 43:11We, we, we love America. We love what we're, what it
- 43:16stands for. We don't always agree with the,
- 43:20the chief staff or, or what's going on, but America and the
- 43:25people is, is the core of what we're doing.
- 43:29And there are our rights as the people is what we fight for.
- 43:34And that that's why it's important that we remember those
- 43:39that that came before us. So tell me what you're up to
- 43:45nowadays. Tell me what you're up to
- 43:48nowadays. Oh, now, well, I, I, I went to
- 43:53run for sheriff in Warren County and I lost that, that campaign.
- 44:01But I've fought back on teaching scuba diving in Nashville, Scuba
- 44:07Nashville and that's what I do now and looking to possibly go
- 44:17back to road work with the the Police Department.
- 44:22OK, nothing wrong with that. OK, nothing wrong with that.
- 44:26Not at all. And you still have that drive to
- 44:29serve, that drive to serve and to help.
- 44:32Always, always. I think that's one of the things
- 44:35that most, most veterans have is a a call to service something,
- 44:44no matter what it is. I I need to help somebody do
- 44:49something or I want them to see what I saw or I want to help
- 44:54them get to where they want to be.
- 44:57Yeah, that's that's huge. And you find that in you.
- 45:00Can you find that in? They continue to help.
- 45:02They continue to help serve their community, their
- 45:06community, etcetera. Bo, I'm not seeing any other.
- 45:12I'm not seeing any other questions.
- 45:13You want to say thank you. You want to say very, very much,
- 45:16very, very much time. Mattie, your day.
- 45:19Oh, you're great. Thank you.
- 45:22And if you want to hold tight for me, if you want to go ahead
- 45:25for me, wrap ahead and wrap up and we will be with you in just
- 45:30another moment. In just another moment.
- 45:33Thank you so much. So for everybody else, for
- 45:37everyone to say thank you all for joining tonight.
- 45:40Thank you all for joining tonight.
- 45:42And with any luck, we can find a guest for next Sunday.
- 45:47So just stay tuned. And everybody, please have
