- 0:01Speaker 1: Taking a Walk Nashville.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Hi, this is Sarah Harrelson, your host of Taking Walk Nashville,
- 0:06Speaker 2: and today I have a very special episode for you
- 0:10Speaker 2: because it includes three different artists and I am taking
- 0:14Speaker 2: a walk with them here at the Grand Ole Opry
- 0:18Speaker 2: in Nashville at the Main Street Country Disney event. Disney
- 0:23Speaker 2: just put out a country EP called Main Street Country,
- 0:27Speaker 2: featuring five different country artists with their take and their
- 0:33Speaker 2: country version of classic Disney songs. Join me on the
- 0:38Speaker 2: red carpet and studio way of the Grandel Opry as
- 0:42Speaker 2: I talk to country artist Restless Road, Breeland and Dasha.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Welcome to Taking a Walk Nashville with your hosts, singer
- 0:55Speaker 2: songwriter Sarah Harrelson. Hi.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Everyone at Sarah Harrelson.
- 0:59Speaker 2: You're host of the Take a Walk Nashville podcast.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Here with me today is a Restless Road.
- 1:03Speaker 2: At the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. We just had
- 1:06Speaker 2: the Main Streets Huntry EP event for Disney. What was
- 1:11Speaker 2: it like for you guys when you got asked to
- 1:13Speaker 2: contribute a song on this EP?
- 1:16Speaker 4: Honestly, it was a dream come true.
- 1:17Speaker 5: We all grew up big Disney fans, and I mean
- 1:21Speaker 5: anytime Disney asked you to do anything. You say, you
- 1:25Speaker 5: say yeah, you say yes, you know there's there's us
- 1:27Speaker 5: to it, don't question. And so to be just a
- 1:30Speaker 5: small part of this amazing EP with so many amazing
- 1:33Speaker 5: artists was just a dream come true.
- 1:35Speaker 4: And we have never looked cooler to our kids, that's.
- 1:38Speaker 1: True, of course.
- 1:40Speaker 2: And how easy was it to pick the Climb from
- 1:42Speaker 2: the Hannah Montana movie. Was it a unanimous decision or
- 1:47Speaker 2: did it take some thinking?
- 1:48Speaker 6: It definitely jumped off the page to us right away.
- 1:53Speaker 6: We had we had a couple others, but I think
- 1:55Speaker 6: the other song that we were really considering as well
- 1:57Speaker 6: was You'll Be in My Heart And we're really glad
- 2:00Speaker 6: ad that Maddie and Tay were able to do that
- 2:02Speaker 6: one so we can get to enjoy their version.
- 2:04Speaker 1: They did an amazing job.
- 2:05Speaker 6: But yeah, when we saw the Climb, we felt like
- 2:07Speaker 6: that's a song that we we've always wished we could
- 2:10Speaker 6: put out and so now thanks to Disney, we can,
- 2:13Speaker 6: and we're just so happy we got to do it.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I love your version of the song and the
- 2:17Speaker 2: harmonies on it.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Do you each have a.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Favorite Disney movie you watched growing up?
- 2:23Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 2:23Speaker 3: I've said this a bunch today. But I love Sky High.
- 2:25Speaker 7: It's like one of those, like it's one of those
- 2:27Speaker 7: like it was like a TV movie, right, but like
- 2:29Speaker 7: I don't know it was. I mean, yeah, I just
- 2:31Speaker 7: I don't know. I think the superheroess of it and
- 2:34Speaker 7: it just like it looks cool. It was a high
- 2:35Speaker 7: school thing, you know what I mean. Every every kid
- 2:37Speaker 7: wants to be able to fly and like what your power?
- 2:39Speaker 1: Your power be.
- 2:40Speaker 7: I've always wanted to fly, like honestly, like if I
- 2:42Speaker 7: could fly, like I would do that could fly?
- 2:46Speaker 6: I mean I think my top two were a Little
- 2:50Speaker 6: Mermaid and Lion King.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Okay, those are like when I was little, very little.
- 2:54Speaker 4: Crossover Lion King and Toy Story.
- 2:56Speaker 5: Okay, I'll probably watch Toy Story though probably more than anything.
- 3:01Speaker 4: I love that.
- 3:01Speaker 1: If you could be any Disney character, who would you be?
- 3:04Speaker 4: Woody?
- 3:05Speaker 2: Okay?
- 3:07Speaker 6: I think Hercules because I'd really like I'd like, you know,
- 3:11Speaker 6: beach seasons coming up, so.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Stitch, Oh, I'll stitch. I like that.
- 3:16Speaker 1: That's it.
- 3:17Speaker 4: That's eye Wanda.
- 3:20Speaker 1: You can even do a voice.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Well, what was it like being in the studio recording
- 3:25Speaker 2: the climb together?
- 3:27Speaker 4: It was awesome?
- 3:27Speaker 6: Oh you had it was epic we uh, we got
- 3:30Speaker 6: to do it with two of our favorite producers and
- 3:33Speaker 6: what we think are like the best producers you could
- 3:35Speaker 6: possibly have, Dan Huff and Lindsay Rhymes and yeah, they
- 3:39Speaker 6: just I mean we we tried to uh stay true
- 3:42Speaker 6: to the original, but I think you know, that's a
- 3:44Speaker 6: female vocalist song, so kind of having three dudes in
- 3:47Speaker 6: a trio, this is kind of an interesting flip. And uh,
- 3:49Speaker 6: we just had a lot of fun and know adding
- 3:51Speaker 6: our harmonies to it, and yeah, excited to see what
- 3:54Speaker 6: people think about her.
- 3:55Speaker 4: Very cool And where was it recorded set? Sound stage?
- 3:58Speaker 4: I believe in Nashville or black I don't know.
- 4:01Speaker 2: It was a.
- 4:04Speaker 4: Professional record part of it.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, very cool.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Well I love the version of the song. What can
- 4:11Speaker 2: we look forward to as far as upcoming shows and
- 4:14Speaker 2: upcoming music from you guys this year?
- 4:16Speaker 3: Yeah, we've been teasing a lot of new music.
- 4:18Speaker 7: We've been hard at work in the studio and we
- 4:20Speaker 7: have one that we're very excited about called Forever Ago.
- 4:22Speaker 3: It's a it's a wedding wedding.
- 4:24Speaker 7: Song and our a love song but could be used
- 4:27Speaker 7: for wedding, but we're really excited. We've been posting it
- 4:29Speaker 7: on social media, getting a lot of getting a lot
- 4:32Speaker 7: of good reviews, and uh, we've been known before to
- 4:34Speaker 7: crash weddings, so we've actually been posting that we want
- 4:37Speaker 7: to crash a couple of weddings and we've got an
- 4:39Speaker 7: overwhelming response. So I think we have our work cut
- 4:42Speaker 7: out for us this wedding season. We might be we
- 4:45Speaker 7: might be hitting quite a few. Yeah, we might just
- 4:47Speaker 7: be for a while. We might just be hitting a
- 4:48Speaker 7: lot of weddings because that's always so fun.
- 4:50Speaker 2: You know.
- 4:51Speaker 7: We have a lot of super fans that have been there,
- 4:53Speaker 7: like for thirty plus shows that are getting married. So
- 4:56Speaker 7: I think we're going to try to definitely hit one
- 4:58Speaker 7: of those and make sure we're there for that.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Well, at this point, you're not even crashing.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Everyone just invited, you know. Definitely, we definitely could go
- 5:05Speaker 3: to a bunch, so yeah and.
- 5:06Speaker 4: Perform there too.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Yeah, are you guys heading the road this year?
- 5:10Speaker 4: We are. Yeah, we picked back up in June.
- 5:13Speaker 5: I think first show back we're going to be actually
- 5:14Speaker 5: in Canada, and so it will be be a good
- 5:18Speaker 5: way to start off the year with all of our
- 5:20Speaker 5: Canadian fans and so it's yeah, we're really blessed to
- 5:24Speaker 5: be able to go around and and and still and
- 5:27Speaker 5: still go all over the world doing this. So we're
- 5:29Speaker 5: we feel really lucky.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Awesome listeners can look forward to that. My last question
- 5:34Speaker 2: for each of you, we're on taking a walk Nashville. So,
- 5:37Speaker 2: if you could take a walk with any person in Nashville,
- 5:41Speaker 2: who would you take that walk with?
- 5:44Speaker 4: M hmm, okay, gosh, I would. I would. I would
- 5:48Speaker 4: take a walk with Brooks and Dunn.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Oh.
- 5:51Speaker 5: I like that because, first off, Ronnie has one of
- 5:55Speaker 5: my favorite voices of all time, So I hope you
- 5:57Speaker 5: would sing as we were walking a little bit. But
- 5:59Speaker 5: I honestly, I just love to get advice and hear
- 6:02Speaker 5: how it was for them, because I mean, it's such
- 6:05Speaker 5: a different time then and and but there's still so
- 6:07Speaker 5: many parallels and and then and and now. So I
- 6:10Speaker 5: just think it would be great to kind of hear
- 6:12Speaker 5: their stories and and kind of take take stuff from them.
- 6:16Speaker 2: I love that answer, and you could take it at Kicks,
- 6:18Speaker 2: Brooks's Winery and the Arangine.
- 6:20Speaker 4: I do that. I think I'd go on walk with
- 6:24Speaker 4: Josh Turner.
- 6:25Speaker 6: He was kind of my when I started out with singing.
- 6:27Speaker 6: He was like my my biggest idol and still is
- 6:30Speaker 6: and I love his voice and music and I still
- 6:33Speaker 6: have never got the chance to meet him, So that
- 6:34Speaker 6: would be what I would say.
- 6:36Speaker 7: I want to take a walk with Rascal Flats and
- 6:38Speaker 7: hear all the misadventures of one of the greatest vocal
- 6:41Speaker 7: harmony bands of all time. So I think that'd be
- 6:44Speaker 7: really really funny to just get to hang out and
- 6:46Speaker 7: talk with them.
- 6:47Speaker 2: So yeah, all great answers. Everyone can look forward to
- 6:52Speaker 2: your new single off the Main Street Country EP, The Climb,
- 6:55Speaker 2: upcoming shows and music this year. Zach Beak and Colton
- 6:59Speaker 2: Past Garrett Nichols from Restless Road, thank you so much
- 7:03Speaker 2: for being on Taking a Walk Nashville today. Thank you Freeland,
- 7:06Speaker 2: Thank you so much for being on the Taken a
- 7:08Speaker 2: Walk Nashville podcast Today. We are here at Studio A
- 7:11Speaker 2: and the Grand Ole Opry celebrating Disney's Main Street Country
- 7:15Speaker 2: E Day and you just perform your version of Go
- 7:19Speaker 2: the Distance by Acule's. What a beautiful performance and a
- 7:22Speaker 2: beautiful song. What was it like being asked to record
- 7:26Speaker 2: this song on the EP?
- 7:28Speaker 8: Yeah, I feel like, you know, anytime you get to
- 7:31Speaker 8: do something with Disney, which this is my first, it's
- 7:34Speaker 8: pretty exciting, you know, having grown up with all of
- 7:37Speaker 8: these songs and being friends with all of these artists
- 7:40Speaker 8: who are on the project. There are all people that
- 7:42Speaker 8: I've performed with, riten with, you know, been on tours with.
- 7:47Speaker 8: So it's exciting to be a part of a project
- 7:50Speaker 8: with so many names that I know and love, and
- 7:52Speaker 8: Disney being behind it obviously makes it even sweeter.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Yeah, and you got to record with a string section,
- 7:57Speaker 2: and yes.
- 7:58Speaker 8: Right, absolutely, man, one of the coolest recording experiences. We'll
- 8:03Speaker 8: have some footage from the recording process coming in the
- 8:07Speaker 8: next few weeks, which I'm sure people will be excited
- 8:11Speaker 8: to see because it really it's very very cool. I'm
- 8:14Speaker 8: being a little coy because there's some things that I
- 8:16Speaker 8: can't quite say yet, but I will say at a minimum,
- 8:19Speaker 8: having just live strings and live slide players and all
- 8:24Speaker 8: of that in the studio, it just creates a different
- 8:27Speaker 8: experience than when you're recording to a track or you know,
- 8:30Speaker 8: something that's just happening in the headphones. There is like
- 8:33Speaker 8: a musicality that gets brought, you know, put into a
- 8:36Speaker 8: song because you have so many musicians in the same space.
- 8:39Speaker 8: And I haven't really had a whole lot of experiences
- 8:42Speaker 8: like that, so it was really cool to do.
- 8:43Speaker 2: I can't wait to see the behind the scenes. It
- 8:45Speaker 2: had to be so emotional too. It's such an emotional song,
- 8:48Speaker 2: so recording it with the band in the studio.
- 8:50Speaker 8: I made my parents cry with this one, and that
- 8:52Speaker 8: doesn't happen too often.
- 8:54Speaker 3: So well, anyway, was it your niece that picked the song?
- 8:57Speaker 8: My sister picked the song, and my nephew is a
- 9:01Speaker 8: fan of Hercules now too, so he likes this one.
- 9:05Speaker 1: He thought I did a good job.
- 9:06Speaker 2: What a great choice of a song from your nephew.
- 9:10Speaker 2: Was that your favorite Disney movie growing up?
- 9:12Speaker 8: It was one of them. I feel like, soundtrack wise,
- 9:15Speaker 8: it's got to be up there.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Not Chess, no way, I won't say.
- 9:20Speaker 8: I'm In is one of the best melodies I've ever heard,
- 9:24Speaker 8: to be quite honest.
- 9:26Speaker 1: So yeah, shout out to Hercules, I would say.
- 9:28Speaker 8: Also, like I grew up watching a lot of Milan,
- 9:31Speaker 8: Pocahontas was in the mix. My sister was a big
- 9:34Speaker 8: fan of The Little Mermaid, and so I watched, you know,
- 9:37Speaker 8: most of the stuff that my sister watched, and then
- 9:40Speaker 8: it turned in a Disney Channel and the Disney Channel
- 9:42Speaker 8: original movies and all the Pixar films, so like pretty
- 9:45Speaker 8: well versed in the Disney universe.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Yeah, so exciting. I love your version of the song.
- 9:51Speaker 2: And beyond this song coming out.
- 9:53Speaker 4: You also just released a new.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Song called in My Truck. Yeah country flip of fifty
- 10:00Speaker 2: sense iconic in the club, and you got cleared by
- 10:04Speaker 2: fifty cent and Doctor Dre, which is kind of impossible
- 10:07Speaker 2: to do to do your version of this song.
- 10:09Speaker 7: So what was that like?
- 10:10Speaker 8: Yeah, very very cool. Shout out to fifty cent and
- 10:14Speaker 8: Doctor Dre. You know, there's if you ever believed in
- 10:17Speaker 8: like alternate realities or anything like that. Let's say there's
- 10:20Speaker 8: one hundred realities, there might only be one where they
- 10:24Speaker 8: both agree to say yes to something like this, and
- 10:27Speaker 8: we're living in that reality. So I'm very very fortunate.
- 10:31Speaker 8: It's just great to get music out again. We shot
- 10:34Speaker 8: the music video for this out in Japan. We recorded
- 10:37Speaker 8: the vocals for this song while I was out on
- 10:39Speaker 8: the road playing some shows for the troops out in
- 10:43Speaker 8: Eastern Europe, you know, Kosovo and Georgia. So it's a
- 10:47Speaker 8: global kind of record, and it doesn't get any more
- 10:49Speaker 8: global here, you know, with Disney either.
- 10:52Speaker 1: So just thinking you know, thinking bigger.
- 10:55Speaker 3: Yeah, so exciting.
- 10:56Speaker 4: I love that the music video was shot in Japan.
- 11:00Speaker 2: It's such a fun song, very cool, so cool. And
- 11:03Speaker 2: you are also prepping to host your fifth annual Breeland
- 11:06Speaker 2: and Friends benefitar Consort April eighth at the Ryman Auditorium.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Proceeds benefit the Oasis Center, the Supports at Risk Youth
- 11:15Speaker 2: and Middle Tennessee. What made you start this benefit concert
- 11:20Speaker 2: five years ago.
- 11:21Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm a big fan of giving back. I feel
- 11:25Speaker 8: like it's like purpose driven work. Like music to me
- 11:29Speaker 8: is something that I love to do, but having this
- 11:32Speaker 8: platform is I feel like I only have this platform
- 11:36Speaker 8: as like a vehicle to be able to do things
- 11:39Speaker 8: for people and to be able to do things for
- 11:41Speaker 8: the community. Obviously, Look, anytime we get to go out
- 11:44Speaker 8: and play a show, even what we did here today,
- 11:47Speaker 8: like that matters because you know, you're exchanging energy with
- 11:50Speaker 8: people and you're able to pour into people in a way.
- 11:53Speaker 8: But when you're able to do a show where you
- 11:55Speaker 8: know that the proceeds are actually going to people who
- 11:58Speaker 8: need it the most, these kids don't have a big
- 12:01Speaker 8: support network, and you know, these young people have been
- 12:03Speaker 8: through a whole lot. And if I'm in a position
- 12:05Speaker 8: to be able to help them. That means everything to me.
- 12:08Speaker 8: And the fact that so many different artists in country music.
- 12:11Speaker 8: Literally everyone on the lineup here today has done Brelan
- 12:14Speaker 8: and Friends and or Dashaw who's doing it this year,
- 12:17Speaker 8: So like it's a blessing, it really is.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Who else can we see on the lineup this year?
- 12:21Speaker 8: Man, We've got We've got Dasher, We've got Ashley Cook,
- 12:24Speaker 8: We've got Walker Hayes, We've got Laura. Can't say that,
- 12:29Speaker 8: but if you heard it, you heard it. It's gonna
- 12:33Speaker 8: be an amazing lineup. You can see the names that
- 12:35Speaker 8: we've announced. We've got Connor Smith and Cameron Marlow just
- 12:37Speaker 8: got announced. We got some people from the R and
- 12:40Speaker 8: B world, Pink Sweats, Kay Michelle who's kind of transitioning
- 12:43Speaker 8: into country, and Duran Bernard who just took home a
- 12:46Speaker 8: big Grammy at the Grammy these last month. So shout
- 12:49Speaker 8: out to everyone who's coming out. We have a couple
- 12:50Speaker 8: of surprise guests, a couple of big names that people
- 12:53Speaker 8: will be excited to see.
- 12:54Speaker 1: So definitely worth coming out.
- 12:55Speaker 4: Very cool.
- 12:56Speaker 2: That's coming up on April eighth, reelind my last question
- 12:59Speaker 2: for you or on taking a walk in Nashville. You
- 13:01Speaker 2: could take a walk with anyone in Nashville. Who would
- 13:04Speaker 2: you take that walk with?
- 13:05Speaker 8: And we're in Nashville with I would be so curious
- 13:08Speaker 8: to take a walk with Brandon Lake. I feel like,
- 13:11Speaker 8: you know, he's really kind of crashed onto the scene
- 13:14Speaker 8: in country music in a really cool way from a
- 13:16Speaker 8: genre that is closely tied with country music and some
- 13:20Speaker 8: of these collabs. I see he's got a song coming
- 13:22Speaker 8: out with Laney soon, so I would be I've never
- 13:25Speaker 8: met him, so I would be curious to hear hear
- 13:28Speaker 8: about his story and his experience.
- 13:30Speaker 2: I love that answer, and hopefully we can look forward
- 13:32Speaker 2: to a collaboration between you, Brandon.
- 13:35Speaker 8: I grew up on gospel music, so I'm with it.
- 13:37Speaker 8: I'm with it all the way.
- 13:38Speaker 2: I love the Brelan. Thank you so much for being
- 13:40Speaker 2: on taking a walk Nashville today. Thanks for having me, Dasha,
- 13:43Speaker 2: Thank you for being on taking a walk Nashville today.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Hold you So we are at the.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Main Street Country event for the New Disney EP. What
- 13:52Speaker 2: was it like when Disney asked you to record a
- 13:55Speaker 2: song on a reimagined country version of a Disney song?
- 13:58Speaker 9: It was pretty cool. I was like, Wow, there's so
- 14:01Speaker 9: many people that could have asked, you know, and so
- 14:03Speaker 9: I'm very honored to have made the cut. And it
- 14:06Speaker 9: was cool picking a song that is so much about,
- 14:09Speaker 9: like something that I relate to, you know, empowerment and
- 14:12Speaker 9: being who you are and kind of being fearless in that.
- 14:15Speaker 9: And yeah, it's just special to like share this moment
- 14:18Speaker 9: with Disney.
- 14:18Speaker 1: It's so cool.
- 14:19Speaker 2: So is she so gone from Lemoninge nowth Was that
- 14:22Speaker 2: like an easy top of mine choice?
- 14:24Speaker 9: Honestly it was? It honestly was such an easy choice
- 14:27Speaker 9: to make. I definitely pondered a bit. But at the
- 14:30Speaker 9: end of today, this song has been in my playlist
- 14:32Speaker 9: for years. I'm like, I just love this song and
- 14:35Speaker 9: love what it stands for, and there's an obvious choice.
- 14:38Speaker 2: I love your kind take on a song and Dan
- 14:40Speaker 2: more months of it at the opry. Was that your
- 14:42Speaker 2: favorite Disney movie growing up too?
- 14:44Speaker 9: It was one of them for sure, like high school
- 14:46Speaker 9: for sure?
- 14:47Speaker 2: Yeah, you're like a Disney channel really yeah?
- 14:49Speaker 9: I mean me and Hannah Montana. You know, I was
- 14:51Speaker 9: locked in, locked in.
- 14:53Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:53Speaker 2: See, we're celebrating twenty years of Hannah Montana this year.
- 14:57Speaker 2: You have some exciting things coming up. Are you excited
- 14:59Speaker 2: for your upcoming shows with Russell Dickerson.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Yes, I am.
- 15:03Speaker 1: It'd be so cool.
- 15:04Speaker 9: Florida has been such a great like fan base for
- 15:07Speaker 9: me and they always make shows really fun. So I'm
- 15:09Speaker 9: excited to get back down there.
- 15:10Speaker 4: I love that.
- 15:11Speaker 9: Yeah, you're going to be hitting the ACMs in the
- 15:13Speaker 9: ACMs will be out there.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm so excited for that. Are you dropping any
- 15:18Speaker 2: new music this year that we can look ford.
- 15:20Speaker 9: You know, I am. It's happening very soon. I haven't
- 15:24Speaker 9: announced anything yet, but just be expecting some stuff soon.
- 15:27Speaker 2: I love that. So exciting. A last question for you,
