- 0:19Speaker 1: One, two, buckle my shoe? Three four, Fuck my ass?
- 0:27Speaker 1: Is that a bush apple in your pants? Or are you
- 0:29Speaker 1: just happy to see me? What am I talking about?
- 0:31Speaker 1: There's already the next Evil Dead movie coming out. We've
- 0:34Speaker 1: got Evil Dead Burn. That's not what I'm talking about, Okay.
- 0:38Speaker 1: What I'm talking about is the movie that they need
- 0:40Speaker 1: to make after Evil Dead Burn. Once this is all
- 0:43Speaker 1: said and done, once the dust settles, we know they're
- 0:46Speaker 1: gonna be making more Evil Dead movies because they're never
- 0:48Speaker 1: gonna stop. It's a franchise. It's snowballing at this point.
- 0:52Speaker 1: They're just gonna keep going and going. So what I'm
- 0:54Speaker 1: saying is after that, they need to make this into
- 0:57Speaker 1: an Evil Dead movie. Before we get into it. I
- 1:00Speaker 1: did just watch the Evil Dead Burn trailer. Evil Dead
- 1:03Speaker 1: Burn trailer. It looks like it's like it's going to
- 1:06Speaker 1: be a story about a family being possessed, which is
- 1:09Speaker 1: what happened in Evil Dead Rise. It seems like it's
- 1:12Speaker 1: going to be brought on by wanting to bring back
- 1:15Speaker 1: a dead family members. So they're going to use the
- 1:17Speaker 1: net Kronomicon to bring back this dead kid or whatever,
- 1:21Speaker 1: and then after that everyone's gonna get possessed, So that's
- 1:24Speaker 1: what the trailer told me anyway. Other than that, though,
- 1:26Speaker 1: I will say it looks all right. It looks in
- 1:29Speaker 1: line with Evil Dead Rise as far as the effects
- 1:32Speaker 1: and the gore go. The trailer gives away one of
- 1:35Speaker 1: the creative kills, which I always hate to see and
- 1:38Speaker 1: never makes any sense, Like why the fuck would you
- 1:40Speaker 1: do that? Just tease it out and then let people
- 1:43Speaker 1: find out what happens when they go to actually see
- 1:46Speaker 1: the movie in theaters or wait till it's released on
- 1:49Speaker 1: demand or whatever, or buy the Blu ray if you're
- 1:52Speaker 1: really fucking cool. It just kind of sucks knowing exactly
- 1:55Speaker 1: what's going to happen in a scene that could have
- 1:57Speaker 1: potential to bring some spence to the movie. But it's like,
- 2:01Speaker 1: I feel like they just can't help themselves anymore as
- 2:04Speaker 1: soon as the trailer comes out there, like you know what,
- 2:06Speaker 1: fuck it, let's just show them exactly who's gonna die
- 2:08Speaker 1: and win. Why not? I'm not gonna watch the damn
- 2:11Speaker 1: movie anyway, But that's not what we're here to talk about.
- 2:14Speaker 1: The next movie should be an adaptation of the book
- 2:17Speaker 1: The House Across the Lake. This is a Riley sagerbook.
- 2:20Speaker 1: I've read a few Riley sagerbooks. They're pretty hit or
- 2:23Speaker 1: miss for me. Lock Every Door is one that really
- 2:26Speaker 1: put me off. It just felt very out of touch
- 2:29Speaker 1: in a lot of moments. The main character is house
- 2:32Speaker 1: sitting for this apartment, and she just keeps talking about
- 2:35Speaker 1: how she doesn't have any money and how she doesn't
- 2:37Speaker 1: know how she's going to like make it through the week.
- 2:40Speaker 1: But every time she does this, she'll like talk about
- 2:43Speaker 1: the exact dollar amount that she has and she'll be like,
- 2:45Speaker 1: I only have eight hundred dollars to make it through
- 2:48Speaker 1: the next four days. And it's like, yeah, you should
- 2:50Speaker 1: be fine then, right, She's just like, after I buy groceries,
- 2:54Speaker 1: I'm only going to have five hundred dollars left for
- 2:57Speaker 1: the next three days. And it's like, Okay, what else
- 3:00Speaker 1: do you need to buy? Though, Just stay in the
- 3:02Speaker 1: fucking apartment and eat your damn groceries and shut the
- 3:05Speaker 1: fuck up. Like it just didn't make it felt That's
- 3:08Speaker 1: what I mean. It just felt very out of touch,
- 3:10Speaker 1: where it's like, Okay, this guy doesn't know what it
- 3:12Speaker 1: means to be broke. Riley Seger doesn't know what the
- 3:14Speaker 1: fuck he's talking about. If you have eight hundred dollars
- 3:17Speaker 1: for five days. She doesn't have any bills really other
- 3:20Speaker 1: than I think, like her cell phone bill or something
- 3:22Speaker 1: like that. She doesn't have any like real responsibilities other
- 3:26Speaker 1: than just to take on this job and watch this apartment.
- 3:29Speaker 1: So it was one of those things where like when
- 3:31Speaker 1: I got into Riley Sager, that might have been the
- 3:34Speaker 1: first book I read, and it just kind of put
- 3:36Speaker 1: me off. There were some things I liked about it too.
- 3:38Speaker 1: I liked the build up to it. The problem with
- 3:40Speaker 1: that book was the twist that does this big twist
- 3:44Speaker 1: at the end, and it just felt fucking stupid. It
- 3:46Speaker 1: ruined the whole book for me, honestly, and I was
- 3:49Speaker 1: kind of like, what the fuck? But I was hopeful
- 3:51Speaker 1: because I was like, the first like two thirds of
- 3:53Speaker 1: the book were pretty fucking decent honestly, and had me,
- 3:56Speaker 1: you know, interested to see what was going to happen.
- 3:59Speaker 1: It was just like, once they finally showed it, it
- 4:01Speaker 1: was kind of like, all right, that's fucking dumb. Should
- 4:03Speaker 1: have chose something else, should have made it about ghosts, honestly,
- 4:07Speaker 1: is what I was hoping. So I didn't live up
- 4:09Speaker 1: to my expectations. Some of the others that I've read
- 4:11Speaker 1: Final Girls and Survived the Night. I thought those were
- 4:14Speaker 1: all right, but they're all around, they're all right. Books.
- 4:17Speaker 1: The house across the lake, so we've got this retired
- 4:20Speaker 1: actress named Casey. She retreats to her family's cabin to
- 4:23Speaker 1: hide out from the press. She quickly befriends a runway
- 4:26Speaker 1: model named Katherine and her husband Tom. After she saves
- 4:30Speaker 1: Catherine from drowning in the lake. We find out that
- 4:33Speaker 1: Casey's husband drowned in the lake sometime before all of this,
- 4:36Speaker 1: So the two of them they bond, They become close,
- 4:39Speaker 1: and they kind of get to know each other. At
- 4:41Speaker 1: the cabin, she's home alone all the time, so she
- 4:44Speaker 1: finds herself spying on Kathy and Tom. She learns a
- 4:47Speaker 1: lot about their relationship struggles and starts to suspect that
- 4:51Speaker 1: Tom might be trying to murder his wife. So she's like, oh, no,
- 4:55Speaker 1: he's gonna kill Kathy. She thinks that like he's been
- 4:57Speaker 1: drugging her because she keeps to talking about how she
- 5:00Speaker 1: feels like disassociative and not well and she can't remember
- 5:04Speaker 1: things and stuff like that. So she's like, damn, I
- 5:06Speaker 1: think that motherfucker might be trying to kill his damn wife.
- 5:08Speaker 1: She might be onto something. Shortly after that, Kathy returns
- 5:12Speaker 1: back to Manhattan. According to her social media, her posts
- 5:16Speaker 1: seemed vague and suspicious, though, so Casey just kind of
- 5:19Speaker 1: like keeps digging, and she keeps thinking that, like, Okay,
- 5:22Speaker 1: something's gotta be going on here. I wonder if Kathy's
- 5:25Speaker 1: even still alive. I bet Tom killed Kathy. So eventually
- 5:29Speaker 1: she breaks into Tom and Kathy's l like house to
- 5:32Speaker 1: find out. She's like determined. She ends up finding Kathy
- 5:35Speaker 1: tied up in the basement. She's still alive, but the
- 5:38Speaker 1: big twist is that she is possessed by Casey's husband's ghosts.
- 5:42Speaker 1: So cheers to that. I guess I probably should have like,
- 5:46Speaker 1: I guess I probably should have mentioned that I'm going
- 5:48Speaker 1: to spoil this whole book, but still right now. Fuck So,
- 5:52Speaker 1: from there on, the book goes off the fucking rails.
- 5:55Speaker 1: It's all very realistic up until this point. It's mostly
- 5:59Speaker 1: focusing on like serial killers and missing people and whatnot.
- 6:02Speaker 1: So to all of a sudden have a lake demon
- 6:05Speaker 1: possessed this lady completely threw me off, and I loved it.
- 6:09Speaker 1: I was so into this at this point. I like
- 6:12Speaker 1: a good murder mystery anyway, so I was kind of
- 6:15Speaker 1: like I was into seeing like where this is gonna go.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Even if it was just like a cornball, like stereotypical
- 6:20Speaker 1: murder mystery, I probably still would have enjoyed it. I
- 6:23Speaker 1: am so glad that they took this turn, and we're
- 6:25Speaker 1: just like, no, we're doing demons. Now, you're halfway through
- 6:29Speaker 1: the buck. Well, guess what, here's the fucking demon and
- 6:31Speaker 1: guess what, there's gonna be more demons. And it's like, yes,
- 6:34Speaker 1: give me that. So we kind of flashed back at
- 6:37Speaker 1: some point after this, and we find out that Casey
- 6:39Speaker 1: figures out that Lynn is a serial killer is the
- 6:42Speaker 1: reason for all these missing girls in the area, So
- 6:45Speaker 1: without him knowing, she drugs him and drowns him in
- 6:48Speaker 1: the lake. So she's the reason why her husband actually died.
- 6:51Speaker 1: After that, his ghost had just kind of been hanging
- 6:54Speaker 1: out waiting for someone to possess. When Kathy almost drowned earlier,
- 6:59Speaker 1: he saw the opportunity and just kind of took over
- 7:01Speaker 1: her body. The rest of the book is them dealing
- 7:03Speaker 1: with this, which I honestly really enjoyed all of this.
- 7:07Speaker 1: There are some other reveals in twists, and I'm not
- 7:09Speaker 1: really going to mention because if this was adapted into
- 7:13Speaker 1: an Evil Dead movie, I could see them kind of
- 7:15Speaker 1: leaving out the rest of the book after that, just
- 7:17Speaker 1: kind of like, get to the demons, do the Evil
- 7:20Speaker 1: Dead stuff. Yeah, I really just want to build up
- 7:23Speaker 1: with a franchise like the Evil Dead is going to
- 7:26Speaker 1: be so tempting to just do any typical excuse for
- 7:29Speaker 1: the characters, to use the neck ranomicon and bring back
- 7:32Speaker 1: some damn dead eyes. The whole murder mystery intro would
- 7:35Speaker 1: be so refreshing and something that hasn't really been done before.
- 7:39Speaker 1: I guess the only downside would be that because it's
- 7:41Speaker 1: an Evil Dead movie, you would be giving away the
- 7:44Speaker 1: twist right from the start. Everyone would probably expect, like,
- 7:47Speaker 1: at some point we're going to get some demons. Otherwise
- 7:49Speaker 1: it's probably not an Evil Dead movie. But honestly, who cares.
- 7:53Speaker 1: It would be fucking sweet and they should just do
- 7:55Speaker 1: it anyway, because after they reveal Kathy as a Lake Demon,
- 7:58Speaker 1: they could just start doing all the typical Cray Evil
- 8:00Speaker 1: Dead shit and honestly probably bring back some of the
- 8:03Speaker 1: humor from the original movies that the newer movies have
- 8:06Speaker 1: kind of been lacking for for whatever reason, it just
- 8:09Speaker 1: seems like it's hard for them to lock down that
- 8:11Speaker 1: slapstick style that Sam Raimi's movies had. I don't know.
- 8:15Speaker 1: I don't know exactly why that is. Since thirteen Evil Dead,
- 8:18Speaker 1: I understand like that movie just felt very like Balls
- 8:21Speaker 1: to the Wall Gore, and I appreciated that after finally
- 8:24Speaker 1: watching it, But I think at this point they should
- 8:27Speaker 1: kind of like revisit some of the silliness. So I
- 8:30Speaker 1: have read that Netflix is planning to adapt this into
- 8:33Speaker 1: a movie, The House Across the Lake. I'll be curious
- 8:36Speaker 1: to see how that turns out, but I can't say
- 8:38Speaker 1: my hopes are very high just because it's Netflix. But
- 8:41Speaker 1: who knows, it might be better as a standalone with
- 8:44Speaker 1: its own property and not being part of a franchise.
- 8:47Speaker 1: So let me know what you think in the comments.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Are there any books that you would like to see
- 8:52Speaker 1: adapted into an Evil Dead movie
