- Lucas: Luna, welcome back to Learn Malay with Fexingo. Ready for another market trip? Luna: Always, Lucas. I've been practicing my market phrases. What are we buying today? Lucas: Today, we're buying potatoes. In Malay, potato is 'kentang'. Let's start with the basics: 'Saya mahu kentang.' That means 'I want potatoes.' Luna: Saya mahu kentang. Saya mahu kentang. Oh, that's straightforward! Lucas: Exactly. Now, if you want to ask the price per kilo, you say 'Berapa harga sekilo?' That's 'How much per kilo?' Luna: Berapa harga sekilo? So that's the same as for other items we've learned. Good, I remember that. Lucas: You've got it. Now, you might notice the potatoes. You can comment 'Kentang ini besar.' That means 'These potatoes are big.' Luna: Kentang ini besar. So if they're small, I could say 'kentang ini kecil'? Lucas: Yes! You're already building sentences. Now, if you want half a kilo, you say 'Saya mahu setengah kilo.' Luna: Saya mahu setengah kilo. That's half a kilo, right? I've used that before with other items. Lucas: Exactly. And if you want small potatoes specifically, you can ask 'Ada kentang kecil?' meaning 'Do you have small potatoes?' Luna: Ada kentang kecil? That's useful. I'll remember that. Lucas: Let's do a quick practice. Imagine you're at the market. You see potatoes. What do you say? Luna: Saya mahu kentang. Then I ask 'Berapa harga sekilo?' The seller says five ringgit. I look and say 'Kentang ini besar.' But I want half a kilo, so 'Saya mahu setengah kilo.' And if I want small ones, 'Ada kentang kecil?' Lucas: That was perfect, Luna! You nailed it. Now, you know, if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Malay, we just want to mention something quickly. Luna: Oh, what's that? Lucas: A handful of listeners chip in monthly through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. That's literally what funds making this many episodes. It keeps the show ad-free. Luna: Yeah, it's a small group, but it really helps. We appreciate every bit. Lucas: Okay, back to kentang. So, let's do another round. I'll be the seller. You approach and say you want potatoes. Luna: Saya mahu kentang. Berapa harga sekilo? Lucas: Tiga ringgit sekilo. Kentang ini besar. Luna: Saya mahu setengah kilo. Ada kentang kecil? Lucas: Ada. Ini kentang kecil. Setengah kilo? Luna: Ya, setengah kilo. Terima kasih. Lucas: That was smooth, Luna. You're ready for the market. Remember, practice these phrases: Saya mahu kentang, Berapa harga sekilo, Kentang ini besar, Saya mahu setengah kilo, Ada kentang kecil. Luna: I will. This was fun. See you next time, everyone! Lucas: Thanks for joining us on Learn Malay with Fexingo. Keep practicing, and we'll chat again soon.
