- 0:18Speaker 1: Welcome into Jags Am in the PM today. I'm Kindannie Stevens.
- 0:21Speaker 1: We are very excited. It's draft. We are a little
- 0:23Speaker 1: over twenty four hours away from the beginning the twenty
- 0:26Speaker 1: twenty five NFL Draft. Ran Sexton is in Wisconsin. We're
- 0:29Speaker 1: gonna get a live report for him a little bit
- 0:31Speaker 1: later on in the show to see what's going on
- 0:33Speaker 1: as the Jags get ready to make that fifth pick
- 0:35Speaker 1: in the draft. Let's start out with our big things though, John,
- 0:37Speaker 1: you're here with me today, run away as at this point,
- 0:40Speaker 1: we've looked at the odds. John, I don't know if
- 0:41Speaker 1: you're a betting man, but the casinos have Ashton genty
- 0:44Speaker 1: as the most likely pick for the Jaguars. This is
- 0:46Speaker 1: something you and I have been discussing. You've been talking
- 0:48Speaker 1: about for weeks now. So is that confirmed? Are we
- 0:51Speaker 1: sure about that? Or is that just what we think
- 0:54Speaker 1: is gonna happen? Oh?
- 0:54Speaker 2: My sure, I'm not sure on anything point. And anybody
- 0:58Speaker 2: who says they are outside of Liam Cohen and James Glasstone,
- 1:03Speaker 2: Tony Viselli and the cons, they're not. And even they
- 1:07Speaker 2: don't know because they don't know how the draft board
- 1:08Speaker 2: is gonna fall in front of them for weeks. This
- 1:11Speaker 2: has been Mason Graham's spot for about six weeks. I've
- 1:14Speaker 2: been saying, look, there's no you know, leaning toward Graham
- 1:19Speaker 2: et Mason Graham being the defensive tackle from Michigan. This
- 1:22Speaker 2: is pretty wide open. I kind of think if I
- 1:27Speaker 2: was predicting, I would predict genty, but I wouldn't bet
- 1:31Speaker 2: anybody's house on it.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Okay, no betting for John Then as for big thing
- 1:35Speaker 1: number two, it's going to be trade off. Part of
- 1:37Speaker 1: why this is so hard to predict is because there
- 1:39Speaker 1: haven't been any trades in the first round leading up
- 1:41Speaker 1: to this. This is the latest we've gotten in the
- 1:42Speaker 1: modern draft era, with every team entering the first round
- 1:46Speaker 1: with their original picked on. What does that say about
- 1:48Speaker 1: this draft class? I know that there's kind of maybe
- 1:50Speaker 1: three to five prospects people are really feel like they're
- 1:53Speaker 1: sure about, and then kind of a middle ground there.
- 1:55Speaker 1: So what is it saying about people not making a
- 1:57Speaker 1: lot of moves at this point?
- 1:58Speaker 2: Yeah? I wish I had a fear that I've been
- 2:01Speaker 2: thinking about it, and I don't really have one, which
- 2:04Speaker 2: doesn't make great for TV. I do know at the
- 2:07Speaker 2: top teams usually wait if they're gonna deal for the
- 2:10Speaker 2: number one pick, you know, or I should say, if
- 2:14Speaker 2: you're gonna deal for the number one pick, you do
- 2:15Speaker 2: it early. But the Titans clue don't want to trade out.
- 2:19Speaker 2: It sort of tells me more about that there haven't
- 2:22Speaker 2: been a lot of moves in the past leading up
- 2:26Speaker 2: to this, and I think maybe teams might be leaning
- 2:29Speaker 2: a little more toward trying to keep picks. Meaning sometimes
- 2:34Speaker 2: you might have seen a trade last year involving a
- 2:37Speaker 2: number one this year and it lingers into this. So
- 2:40Speaker 2: it may be more philosophical about teams trying to hold
- 2:45Speaker 2: on to their equity and not wanting to tip their
- 2:48Speaker 2: hand too soon. Or maybe they're not sure with the
- 2:51Speaker 2: nil stuff going on in college that they can predict
- 2:54Speaker 2: who's coming out yet. It also may just be a
- 2:57Speaker 2: one year fluke, which sometimes happens.
- 2:59Speaker 1: And of course we can always some action on the
- 3:00Speaker 1: actual day of the draft as well, so we'll keep
- 3:02Speaker 1: an eye on things. Our final big thing today is
- 3:04Speaker 1: going to be setting in the tone.
- 3:05Speaker 2: John.
- 3:06Speaker 1: We talked a lot about this new front office. This
- 3:08Speaker 1: is their first draft class that they're going to be having,
- 3:10Speaker 1: how important it is to the franchise, but also how
- 3:13Speaker 1: much are we going to be able to take out
- 3:14Speaker 1: of the moves here to kind of predict what this
- 3:16Speaker 1: will be like going forward With James Gladstone as GM.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's fascinating. James Gladstone. I think at
- 3:22Speaker 2: the pre draft luncheon a couple of weeks ago, talked
- 3:24Speaker 2: about this and said, you know, yeah, with a number
- 3:27Speaker 2: five pick, there is a thought that that person is
- 3:30Speaker 2: going to be a front of the media guide type
- 3:33Speaker 2: player as you go forward. Some people read a lot
- 3:36Speaker 2: into that and said, well, are they going after a
- 3:38Speaker 2: certain position with that? I don't think it necessarily indicates position.
- 3:42Speaker 2: I think it indicates that this is a new regime
- 3:45Speaker 2: and you want to get started right Beyond the fifth pick, though,
- 3:48Speaker 2: I think this draft is important for this reason. James Gladstone,
- 3:52Speaker 2: coming from the Rams, has a little different view and
- 3:54Speaker 2: a little different philosophy about the entire draft. So I
- 3:59Speaker 2: think once you get through Day three on Saturday and
- 4:03Speaker 2: you look at the whole mosaic of this thing for
- 4:06Speaker 2: the first time in a long time, I'm very interested
- 4:08Speaker 2: to see what that whole class looks like and what
- 4:11Speaker 2: it says about how he but by extension, the staff
- 4:15Speaker 2: is going to pick players moving forward, because it's a
- 4:18Speaker 2: different world than do ball. As they say, or as
- 4:20Speaker 2: I say, as.
- 4:21Speaker 1: John says, it's different world. In Dovall, we're very excited.
- 4:23Speaker 1: We're going to have a live report coming up after
- 4:25Speaker 1: the break from Green Bay as we.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Get ready for the draft that kicks off tomorrow.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Jag Am in the PM today, brought to you by
- 4:47Speaker 1: Fresh from Florida. It is always in season. John Oder
- 4:50Speaker 1: and I are here in the Miller Electric Center in
- 4:53Speaker 1: Florida holding it down in Douvall. But we have a
- 4:55Speaker 1: crew out in Green Bay, and unfortunately the Florida weather
- 4:59Speaker 1: did not travel with that her. It's kind of rainy.
- 5:01Speaker 1: So Brian Sexton's going to join us and let us
- 5:03Speaker 1: know how things in Wisconsin are going. Brian, you look sad.
- 5:06Speaker 1: You look a little sad that you're not in ployant
- 5:08Speaker 1: right now.
- 5:09Speaker 2: You know what I was just thinking.
- 5:11Speaker 4: I was thinking that instead of Green Bay, we should
- 5:12Speaker 4: have done this in Tampa Bay and I could be
- 5:15Speaker 4: standing with my feet in the surf and the sand
- 5:17Speaker 4: on Saint Pete.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Beach to do this.
- 5:19Speaker 4: In all seriousness, the people in Northern Wisconsin are very
- 5:22Speaker 4: proud to have the NFL Draft here. This is a
- 5:25Speaker 4: very if you've been to Green Bay, you understand a
- 5:27Speaker 4: very small market. There's not a lot of infrastructure, so
- 5:30Speaker 4: there are people spread out between here and Milwaukee. They
- 5:34Speaker 4: have jumped through hoops kind of like some of the
- 5:37Speaker 4: old school Jags fans in Jacksonville. People might remember what
- 5:40Speaker 4: we had to do to have Super Bowl thirty nine
- 5:42Speaker 4: in Jacksonville twenty years ago with the cruise ships and
- 5:45Speaker 4: the tents for restaurants. They're kind of doing the exact
- 5:48Speaker 4: same thing. Of course, they have the Crown Jewel, one
- 5:50Speaker 4: of the most historical sites in the National Football League.
- 5:53Speaker 4: They've got lambeau Field, and we see Title Town everywhere
- 5:57Speaker 4: and interesting side note, we're staying in Title Town, which
- 6:01Speaker 4: is sort of an office park, right. There's restaurants, there's retail,
- 6:05Speaker 4: there's literally office buildings and condos, and you can kind
- 6:09Speaker 4: of see the vision for what the cons want to
- 6:12Speaker 4: do around the stadium in Jacksonville, kind of like they've
- 6:16Speaker 4: done in Foxborough where you hail from, and what the
- 6:20Speaker 4: Craft family did with Patriot Place. So it's kind of
- 6:22Speaker 4: an interesting mix. And of course, when you're in Green Bay,
- 6:25Speaker 4: the history is just in front of you at all times.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Definitely gonna be a cool venue for the draft. Brian,
- 6:32Speaker 1: some prospects. There's some events going on right now. We
- 6:35Speaker 1: know that most of the predicted top five picks are
- 6:39Speaker 1: going to be in Green Bay, so that's exciting. What
- 6:41Speaker 1: have you seen so far and what's going on the
- 6:44Speaker 1: rest of the day and tomorrow.
- 6:46Speaker 4: Well, we were out on the play sixty field where
- 6:49Speaker 4: they do an event with the prospects and local kids
- 6:52Speaker 4: and special Olympians, and so I had a chance to
- 6:54Speaker 4: run down Travis. Hunter asked him, and you'll see this later,
- 6:58Speaker 4: asked him corner wide receiver. He just smiled and said both.
- 7:01Speaker 4: I said, you're sticking with that one? He goes, why
- 7:03Speaker 4: wouldn't I? Andre Carter smiled when I brought up Breton
- 7:07Speaker 4: Strange and talked a little bit about Penn State and
- 7:08Speaker 4: how it got him ready to be a pro A
- 7:11Speaker 4: great conversation with Ashton Genty said that he was well.
- 7:15Speaker 4: When I said, what have you heard from Jacksonville, he
- 7:17Speaker 4: smiled and said duve all and talked a little bit
- 7:20Speaker 4: about being compared to Maurice Jones Drew and then I
- 7:23Speaker 4: asked Tat McMillan, the wide receiver from Arizona, about Jacksonville
- 7:28Speaker 4: and what he had heard, and well, he had a
- 7:30Speaker 4: great answer. He said, has anybody heard from Jacksonville? Did
- 7:33Speaker 4: anybody talk to Jacksonville? Of course, famously, we know the
- 7:36Speaker 4: Jaguars didn't do those thirty or thirty interviews, and it
- 7:40Speaker 4: made it very interesting. Everyone got a good laugh out
- 7:43Speaker 4: of that. But he did mention that he had talked
- 7:44Speaker 4: to them at the combine. He understood the situation with
- 7:48Speaker 4: Liam Cohen, the comparisons to Mike Evans Brian Thomas Junior
- 7:52Speaker 4: on the other side. So we got a chance to
- 7:54Speaker 4: run some of them down. And of course we also
- 7:55Speaker 4: talked to Mason Graham, who talked a little bit about
- 7:58Speaker 4: those two outside Russ and what it would mean for him.
- 8:01Speaker 4: He's an interesting body style. He's not very tall, but
- 8:05Speaker 4: man is he wide and he's got the biggest forearms
- 8:09Speaker 4: on any player I think I have ever seen, just
- 8:12Speaker 4: massive arms. He was a wrestler in California growing up
- 8:15Speaker 4: in high school and you could definitely see it in
- 8:18Speaker 4: his forearms, in his hands.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Brian, we were just talking, right. I was talking to
- 8:22Speaker 1: John about how there's been no trades thus far. Everybody
- 8:24Speaker 1: has their original first round pick, which is kind of unusual.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Usually somebody's made a move by this point. But have
- 8:29Speaker 1: you heard any has there any rumblings up there? Does
- 8:32Speaker 1: everybody feel like maybe we'll just figure it out on
- 8:34Speaker 1: draft bite?
- 8:36Speaker 4: Well, I talked to Daniel Jeremiah and Charles Davis from
- 8:38Speaker 4: the NFL Network, and they think this is a great
- 8:41Speaker 4: draft to build a roster front. There are lots of
- 8:44Speaker 4: potential starters, there are lots of potential roster fillers, but
- 8:48Speaker 4: there's not a lot of stars. As we know. There
- 8:50Speaker 4: are three elite players everybody's in on Andre Carter, Travis Hunter,
- 8:55Speaker 4: and Ashton Genty, But it's not a roster pardon me.
- 8:59Speaker 4: He's not a draft that is loaded with star players
- 9:01Speaker 4: from the top of the first round on. So I
- 9:04Speaker 4: think that's why you haven't seen that many trades. Teams
- 9:07Speaker 4: are looking at the value of the picks, as John
- 9:09Speaker 4: alluded to in the A block, and they want to
- 9:11Speaker 4: hold onto those picks, and they're from pick nine to
- 9:15Speaker 4: probably pick ninety nine. It's the flavor that you like, right,
- 9:19Speaker 4: I mean, are you're looking for a tall receiver, Are
- 9:22Speaker 4: you're looking for a short, powerful defensive tackle. What fits
- 9:26Speaker 4: your offensive and defensive schemes? What fits the style of
- 9:30Speaker 4: player and the culture that you've got in the building.
- 9:33Speaker 4: And there's just not a lot of differentiation there. Not
- 9:35Speaker 4: to say that it's not a good draft, but it
- 9:37Speaker 4: doesn't have enough star power to draw people into giving
- 9:40Speaker 4: up good quality picks for guys that will be starters
- 9:44Speaker 4: for them over time to move up and grab a
- 9:46Speaker 4: player that doesn't have that.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Brian, what do you know about Draft night? How's it
- 9:50Speaker 1: set up? Is it going to be on the field
- 9:52Speaker 1: at Lamber or what are we going to visually be
- 9:54Speaker 1: seeing tomorrow?
- 9:56Speaker 4: You know, we were headed over to the Atrium to
- 10:00Speaker 4: to go on that tour when the rain broke and
- 10:02Speaker 4: we went running for the car. So I don't know
- 10:05Speaker 4: we're gonna go. You know, listen on Draft night they
- 10:09Speaker 4: keep us in a media room far away. I mean,
- 10:12Speaker 4: this thing is it's an interesting dynamic of the way
- 10:15Speaker 4: they've set it up with sponsors and prospects and fans.
- 10:18Speaker 4: So we haven't had a chance to see it.
- 10:20Speaker 3: I do know this.
- 10:20Speaker 4: There is a stage set up in the parking lot.
- 10:23Speaker 4: On the other side you can see Lambeau Field. On
- 10:25Speaker 4: the other side is where the stage is set up
- 10:28Speaker 4: like it was in Detroit last year in Kansas City
- 10:31Speaker 4: and in Vegas. So that's where the big scene will come.
- 10:34Speaker 4: In the parking lot of lambeau Field, you know where
- 10:38Speaker 4: the rest of the show is. Well, we're gonna have
- 10:41Speaker 4: to go sneak around and find our way in. Every
- 10:44Speaker 4: year we managed to get where we're not supposed to be,
- 10:47Speaker 4: So hopefully by the time I join you tomorrow night,
- 10:49Speaker 4: we'll have seen things and done things that most people
- 10:53Speaker 4: don't get to do.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Sneaky, sneaky. All right, before I let you go, what's
- 10:56Speaker 1: your prediction. Who do you think they're gonna take in
- 10:58Speaker 1: the first round.
- 11:00Speaker 4: I still think it's an offensive player, and I think
- 11:02Speaker 4: if they stay at five genty makes the most sense.
- 11:05Speaker 4: And I think if they back up, if someone's willing
- 11:07Speaker 4: to give them something to come up, I think Ted McMillan.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Makes a lot of sense.
- 11:13Speaker 4: Somewhere nine, ten to eleven.
- 11:14Speaker 1: I think that's definitely a possibility. Thanks, Brian, we'll talk
- 11:17Speaker 1: to you again soon.
- 11:19Speaker 4: You got to have a great show.
- 11:21Speaker 1: That it's our live report from Wisconsin. We are happy
- 11:24Speaker 1: to be in Florida after looking at that weather, but
- 11:28Speaker 1: it's gonna be a good one. We'll do our predictions
- 11:29Speaker 1: a little bit later on, but yeah, we'll check back
- 11:33Speaker 1: in with you. Let's stay with us.
- 11:34Speaker 2: We're gonna do an.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Ozone mail bag after the break right here on Jacksam
- 11:37Speaker 1: and the PM. Move the Freight, Move the Freight. Magellan
- 11:50Speaker 1: Transport voted the coolest office space in Jacksonville. Apply online
- 11:53Speaker 1: at Magellanlogistics dot com.
- 11:58Speaker 2: French.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Do a little ozone mail bag today for those of
- 12:06Speaker 1: you that do the word ale on the New York Times.
- 12:08Speaker 1: You might want to skip ahead because I'm gonna spoil
- 12:10Speaker 1: it for today. Ozone is the answer it is. I
- 12:14Speaker 1: don't know if you paid for that sponsorship or if
- 12:16Speaker 1: they just knew the draft was coming up so they
- 12:18Speaker 1: just knew it. It was a nice time. I appreciated it.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Let's get to our first Ozone question for you. This
- 12:24Speaker 1: explains a little bit, helps helps us go into things.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Michael from Michael from Arlington's As I know, I don't
- 12:29Speaker 1: get paid the big money to be a general manager,
- 12:31Speaker 1: but if they pick Ashton genty, I have no more
- 12:33Speaker 1: faith in the leadership. Nothing against Ashton, but there's no
- 12:36Speaker 1: value at number five for him on a team with
- 12:37Speaker 1: as many needs as we have. Try and try and
- 12:41Speaker 1: break it down for.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Me, Well, it might take more time than this show has.
- 12:45Speaker 2: But but I think because so many people watch all
- 12:53Speaker 2: the draft stuff and they hear people talk about positional value, right,
- 12:58Speaker 2: And there's been such a trend and I've leave in
- 13:00Speaker 2: in positional value because you have to and positional value.
- 13:03Speaker 2: At the top of the draft is offensive line, and
- 13:05Speaker 2: it's quarterback. They don't need a quarterback defensive line. So
- 13:09Speaker 2: there's been sort of a thing, Well, if the Jaguars
- 13:11Speaker 2: are building up their line, they have all these needs,
- 13:14Speaker 2: then they should draft a offensive lineman or a defensive
- 13:19Speaker 2: tackle or quation. All the time, why don't they draft
- 13:22Speaker 2: a position. The problem with the draft and thinking of
- 13:26Speaker 2: it that way is you can't think of the draft
- 13:29Speaker 2: as we're going to go draft a offensive lineman. It's
- 13:33Speaker 2: which offensive linemen are you bringing into your building? At
- 13:36Speaker 2: some point, the actual guy walks through the door and
- 13:39Speaker 2: he's the player you got. In this case, I would
- 13:44Speaker 2: love and I think they would too. By the way,
- 13:46Speaker 2: if there was an offensive lineman that they loved or
- 13:49Speaker 2: a defensive lineman that they loved, and by and by loved,
- 13:53Speaker 2: I mean if they thought that it was a guy
- 13:56Speaker 2: who was going to the Hall of fame or had
- 13:57Speaker 2: those traits. If it's Genty, and I don't know who
- 14:00Speaker 2: it's going to be, but if it's Genty, the reason
- 14:02Speaker 2: they would take him is because his value is so
- 14:06Speaker 2: much higher than the offensive line, where the defensive lineman
- 14:09Speaker 2: or whatever. And at some point you want greatness on
- 14:13Speaker 2: your team. So I don't know who they're going to pick,
- 14:15Speaker 2: but if they pick Genty, or if they if they
- 14:17Speaker 2: pick Travis Hunter, whoever they pick, it will be because
- 14:20Speaker 2: they think he has the most great traits and the
- 14:23Speaker 2: ability to impact everything much more. They would like more guys.
- 14:30Speaker 2: What did BTJ feel like last year when he played?
- 14:33Speaker 2: You felt like greatness? They would like that as opposed
- 14:37Speaker 2: to really really good and solid. They feel like they
- 14:40Speaker 2: need greatness on this team.
- 14:42Speaker 1: I think that's hard to turn down because if he's
- 14:44Speaker 1: going to be what people predict him to be, that's
- 14:46Speaker 1: pretty hard to pass along.
- 14:48Speaker 2: And that's gonna be the fundamental reason everybody's going to ask, well,
- 14:51Speaker 2: why did they do this? Cut through everything else? Whoever
- 14:54Speaker 2: they pick at five, it's because they think that he's
- 14:57Speaker 2: that guy more than the others.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Absolutely, let's go to a scooter from Saint Augustine. He's
- 15:02Speaker 1: talking a little bit about last year's draft, So he says,
- 15:04Speaker 1: Mason Smith and Jordan Jefferson were drafted in the second
- 15:07Speaker 1: fourth round last year. Seems like the draft and development
- 15:09Speaker 1: should not be looking for another interior defensive lineman.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Yeah, and this is sort of a Mason a Mason
- 15:16Speaker 2: Graham oriented question. I think every time you see Mason
- 15:20Speaker 2: Graham projected at the top, which has been a lot,
- 15:23Speaker 2: I get questions, well, why would they take him? If
- 15:25Speaker 2: you've already got Mason Smith, you already got Jordan Jefferson,
- 15:28Speaker 2: you're moving Armstead in again. I think the fundamental thing
- 15:33Speaker 2: that's hard to talk to people about the draft sometimes
- 15:36Speaker 2: is so many analysts and so many fans want to
- 15:40Speaker 2: talk about, well, what do they need? Well, if you
- 15:43Speaker 2: look at the depth chart, they probably don't need a
- 15:46Speaker 2: devensive tackle. The reason you would draft Mason Graham the
- 15:50Speaker 2: same reason you would draft Gente. Do you think this
- 15:52Speaker 2: is greatness you're bringing in? You know, and you're not
- 15:55Speaker 2: drafting on your depth chart for twenty twenty five in
- 15:59Speaker 2: the first round. You want to be drafting does this
- 16:01Speaker 2: guy become a pillar of our franchise for the next
- 16:04Speaker 2: X number of years? So when thinking about the draft
- 16:08Speaker 2: as much as you can take, try to take what
- 16:12Speaker 2: do they need in the short term out of it
- 16:14Speaker 2: and think how can we get our roster to be great.
- 16:18Speaker 2: The good teams draft in that, you know, the Baltimore's
- 16:21Speaker 2: of the world, try to draft more toward that than
- 16:23Speaker 2: their short term need.
- 16:25Speaker 1: I feel like we talked a lot about this last year, John,
- 16:26Speaker 1: where it's like some of the teams we play, they
- 16:29Speaker 1: have those great players where if things are going wrong
- 16:32Speaker 1: or even if they're going well, it's like they are
- 16:34Speaker 1: dependable to a fault and if you need to put
- 16:36Speaker 1: it on their back, you can do that. And the
- 16:38Speaker 1: Jags just haven't had that when they needed it.
- 16:40Speaker 2: I always kind of go back to the Philly game
- 16:42Speaker 2: last year, right, you know, Yeah, Philly won the Super Bowl.
- 16:44Speaker 2: The Jargons a four and thirteen. In that game, you
- 16:49Speaker 2: didn't feel a huge difference in flow. JAS had a
- 16:52Speaker 2: chance to win at the end. To me, when I
- 16:55Speaker 2: think about that game, I think about Barkley flying backward
- 16:58Speaker 2: over Jarian. There are other plays he made though Jalen
- 17:02Speaker 2: Hurts and DeVante Smith made a huge play in that
- 17:06Speaker 2: play that was above the x's and o's. Right now,
- 17:11Speaker 2: Brian Thomas Junior is there above the x's and o's guy,
- 17:15Speaker 2: so it felt I don't cover Phillies. I don't know
- 17:19Speaker 2: the death of their roster. A lot of special in
- 17:22Speaker 2: some spots in that lineup. I feel like the Jaguars
- 17:25Speaker 2: want to come out of this draft with more special.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Absolutely, let's go to Jay Hooks from Orange Park, says Ozone.
- 17:31Speaker 1: I loved the Tony interview. Great work. Do you expect
- 17:33Speaker 1: big Bo to be in the draft room for the
- 17:35Speaker 1: entire draft? My understanding is he doesn't deal with personnel decisions.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Will he just be an observer or will he have input?
- 17:41Speaker 2: Well, he's going to be there, and would I would
- 17:47Speaker 2: project Bisselli's influence to be very much along the lines
- 17:51Speaker 2: of offering input when appropriate. Is he gonna be in
- 18:00Speaker 2: the draft room making the final call, banging on the
- 18:03Speaker 2: table telling Gladstone we're picking this guy. I know he's
- 18:07Speaker 2: going to be in the world, and as he has
- 18:11Speaker 2: said many times since he got the job, he feels
- 18:14Speaker 2: like his job is to help everybody else succeed. At
- 18:19Speaker 2: some point during these discussions, I can picture us all
- 18:22Speaker 2: kind of sitting around Tony and or James and Liam
- 18:26Speaker 2: talking talk talk talk Talk talk, bo. What do you
- 18:30Speaker 2: think in input when appropriate? And I think that will
- 18:34Speaker 2: be different picks, different moments, big picture, but he won't
- 18:41Speaker 2: be overbearing and banging the table and saying, James, you
- 18:44Speaker 2: can't do this. That's not his role.
- 18:46Speaker 1: They're gonna be exciting to see this new dynamic. We
- 18:48Speaker 1: obviously have some great access now with The Hunt behind
- 18:50Speaker 1: the scenes, so we'll have cameras in there and we'll
- 18:52Speaker 1: kind of get to see how things are put together
- 18:54Speaker 1: in the latest edition of The Hunt in a couple
- 18:56Speaker 1: of weeks. All right, One more final question for you,
- 18:58Speaker 1: O Zones Tim from Jack How many NFL drafts have
- 19:02Speaker 1: you covered?
- 19:03Speaker 2: Too many?
- 19:04Speaker 1: Many?
- 19:05Speaker 2: No, this will be thirty one. I guess the first
- 19:09Speaker 2: one was ninety five. Well, I covered a couple for
- 19:12Speaker 2: the Times Union where I was sort of the auxiliary guy,
- 19:15Speaker 2: which was going out to a college player's house. I
- 19:17Speaker 2: actually went to Edgar Bennett's house he's now wide receiver
- 19:20Speaker 2: for the draft on his draft day when he was
- 19:22Speaker 2: playing for FSU. So I did a couple of tangently
- 19:27Speaker 2: like that. But this will be my thirty first with
- 19:31Speaker 2: the NFL in this capacity. I covered Tony's first draft
- 19:36Speaker 2: as a player went out to Colorado to do a
- 19:40Speaker 2: story in his family after he got drafted. I'm now
- 19:42Speaker 2: covering his first as a executive vice president. All of
- 19:46Speaker 2: which means I'm old.
- 19:47Speaker 1: That a little full circle moment.
- 19:49Speaker 2: Well it's regrettably it means I'm old.
- 19:52Speaker 1: I would say wise learned a scholar.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Well, you're a nice person.
- 19:56Speaker 1: I do what I can, all right, say, Well, this
- 19:58Speaker 1: will give you our predictions for who the Drags are
- 19:59Speaker 1: going to pick in the first round coming about the break.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Whether you need air, electric or plumbing service, Donovan is
- 20:15Speaker 1: always a good call. We've been uh, They've been trusting,
- 20:17Speaker 1: trusted by their customers for almost forty years. Trust us
- 20:20Speaker 1: to deliver fast, reliable service for your home. I'm an
- 20:24Speaker 1: air and plumbing also sponsoring the draft party at Lemon Bar,
- 20:27Speaker 1: which I will be hosting. John is very sad he
- 20:30Speaker 1: can't be at Lemon Bar. I'll bring you back a
- 20:31Speaker 1: my tie or a hurricane, whatever you want. But that's
- 20:34Speaker 1: gonna start at seven tomorrow. If you want to go
- 20:37Speaker 1: head out to the beach and check that out, that'll
- 20:39Speaker 1: be fun. We have some player panels, some prizes, all
- 20:42Speaker 1: that stuff, and then we'll stream the draft out there
- 20:44Speaker 1: as well, so you can check that out. And John,
- 20:46Speaker 1: you're gonna be here though, working working.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Hard in the bowels of the NBC.
- 20:50Speaker 1: You're not You're not gonna break into the draft room
- 20:52Speaker 1: with Tony.
- 20:52Speaker 2: No, we're not breaking in the draft room. I uh.
- 20:55Speaker 2: The draft is a time to know where you should
- 20:58Speaker 2: be and I know where I should be, all right.
- 21:00Speaker 1: So we're gonna have tons of coverage though, because you'll
- 21:02Speaker 1: be here happy hours at four tomorrow with JP and
- 21:05Speaker 1: then also some pre show stuff. John, you'll be involved
- 21:08Speaker 1: with that at seven point thirty here before the draft
- 21:11Speaker 1: kicks off, and then also post pick as well, will
- 21:14Speaker 1: have some analysis once we finally know who it's gonna be.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's you know, it's it's a busy time.
- 21:21Speaker 2: But I will say, in ten or fifteen years of
- 21:24Speaker 2: being around this, we're now at the point of at
- 21:27Speaker 2: Jaguar's meeting Jaguars dot Com where I don't want to
- 21:29Speaker 2: say down to a science because I don't want to
- 21:31Speaker 2: jinx it. But it's it's really good coverage throughout the
- 21:35Speaker 2: weekend for this environment.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Very cool, all right, John, If you had to guess
- 21:41Speaker 1: who do you think they're gonna go with? Or what
- 21:42Speaker 1: do you think they're gonna do in the first round.
- 21:43Speaker 2: I would love them to get Abdul Carter the Edge
- 21:48Speaker 2: from Penn State. I don't think that. I think they
- 21:52Speaker 2: will have to trade up to get him, and I'm
- 21:55Speaker 2: not sure that the price to go get him will
- 21:58Speaker 2: be worth it for them to try to do it.
- 22:00Speaker 2: So if they are at five, which I expect him
- 22:02Speaker 2: to be, then I'll go with Ashton Genty. It feels
- 22:07Speaker 2: like they are a they need high end, talented difference makers.
- 22:14Speaker 2: How many times last year, Kay, did we say that
- 22:17Speaker 2: they just didn't make the big play at the key moment.
- 22:22Speaker 2: He feels like a big play at a key moment,
- 22:24Speaker 2: guy out of the box. And not only that, feels
- 22:27Speaker 2: like I don't think Travis Hunt will be there at five.
- 22:30Speaker 2: I don't think Abdel Quarterbi there at five. If you're
- 22:33Speaker 2: looking for the for the most special, he's going to
- 22:36Speaker 2: be the most special guy.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Buy definitely special. I'm not exactly sure. I feel going
- 22:41Speaker 1: in just from who we've talked to recently that with
- 22:44Speaker 1: James Gladstone, something unexpected is going to happen. I don't
- 22:46Speaker 1: know in what regard whether that's a trade. I think
- 22:50Speaker 1: the offensive offense is the way they're going to go
- 22:52Speaker 1: in the in the first round. So whether that's Ashton
- 22:55Speaker 1: Genty who's available at five, if they trade back and
- 22:57Speaker 1: maybe get technic villain to kind of go along with
- 23:00Speaker 1: Brian Thomas Junior and open things up, that's possibility. But
- 23:04Speaker 1: we just predict things. We'll have to wait and see
- 23:06Speaker 1: officially until tomorrow.
- 23:08Speaker 2: And I would implore people, and I know this will
- 23:10Speaker 2: be spitting into the wind a little bit. Uh, whatever
- 23:13Speaker 2: pick they make a five, if it's not offensive defensive line,
- 23:18Speaker 2: this is not an indicator that they don't consider those
- 23:20Speaker 2: areas important. I've gotten many questions like that, Well, if
- 23:22Speaker 2: the line's so darn important, why don't they just take
- 23:25Speaker 2: the best lineman and go with it. Try to keep
- 23:29Speaker 2: in mind that top five they're going for the most
- 23:34Speaker 2: special player in the draft. In theory, you've only got
- 23:38Speaker 2: so many shots inside that group, meaning you don't need
- 23:42Speaker 2: to pick in the top five again, so you need
- 23:45Speaker 2: to go get special if you're in that category.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Best player of Bill. All right, we have tons of
- 23:50Speaker 1: coverage for you the rest of the week, so stick
- 23:51Speaker 1: with us. Thanks, thank you for joining us on JAGXAM,
- 23:53Speaker 1: and we'll see you enjoy the draft
