- 0:58Speaker 5: Hello, Leggy, are the gone fellas.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Before we get into conversation, leg I gotta say something.
- 1:04Speaker 3: During the last time out. You understand Moser had the
- 1:08Speaker 3: goal to ask me if I wanted to play golf
- 1:11Speaker 3: in a tournament in August. After all, we've gone through
- 1:15Speaker 3: this point. Sorry, Leggy, completely off topic. We'll get to
- 1:17Speaker 3: you in a second. You're just gonna have to hold off,
- 1:20Speaker 3: can you. I just want you to consume that information.
- 1:23Speaker 3: He should have given it leg a couple of He
- 1:25Speaker 3: just had the goal that asked me to play in
- 1:27Speaker 3: a golf tournament in August after what he just did
- 1:29Speaker 3: to us. So just eat that for a while. Hi, Leggy,
- 1:32Speaker 3: how you doing, buddy?
- 1:33Speaker 5: I'm good, Leggy.
- 1:36Speaker 1: One thing I wanted to ask you, just kind of
- 1:37Speaker 1: out of the gates.
- 1:37Speaker 4: I know that JK.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Dobbins, he was in for a visit. I don't see
- 1:42Speaker 1: any downside to adding him to the roster. What do
- 1:46Speaker 1: you think the hold up with him though? Is more money?
- 1:48Speaker 1: And teams are pushing back thinking, well, you've had injury trouble, Like,
- 1:52Speaker 1: what's the story of him still being available?
- 1:55Speaker 5: Well, usually it's just what you said.
- 1:57Speaker 2: If a free agent's available at this point, he and
- 2:01Speaker 2: his reps aren't willing to come off their number and
- 2:06Speaker 2: no team has reached their number or they'd be signed.
- 2:09Speaker 2: You know, sometimes a guy figures I want the best
- 2:14Speaker 2: money for the best team I can get, Like, you know,
- 2:18Speaker 2: maybe JK. Dobbins could have got more money from somebody
- 2:22Speaker 2: who isn't considered sort of in the playoff mix, and
- 2:27Speaker 2: you don't want that at this point. But you know,
- 2:30Speaker 2: I you know, I get it in some ways, but
- 2:33Speaker 2: I also I see Javonte Williams and this player. So
- 2:38Speaker 2: you know, to me, it's, uh, you trade it up
- 2:41Speaker 2: to take a back in the draft, and now you're
- 2:45Speaker 2: going to bring in a guy who essentially at this
- 2:49Speaker 2: point in his career, plays the same sort of way
- 2:53Speaker 2: and is almost the exact same size as Javonte Williams.
- 2:59Speaker 2: I mean, I think Dobbins is, you know, five ten,
- 3:03Speaker 2: two fifteen. I think Javante's five ten, you know, to
- 3:07Speaker 2: eighteen something like that. I mean, this is the same back,
- 3:11Speaker 2: and he's you know, he's had a torn acl a
- 3:14Speaker 2: torn achilles, and he missed four games last year with
- 3:16Speaker 2: an MCL.
- 3:17Speaker 5: So I get it.
- 3:19Speaker 2: He's explosive at his best, and I'm sure that's what
- 3:22Speaker 2: they see. And it tells me after a little bit
- 3:27Speaker 2: of the rookie mini camp and the OTAs, they're still
- 3:30Speaker 2: concerned about third down a little bit, you know, at
- 3:33Speaker 2: running back. You know, they want the young guy to
- 3:36Speaker 2: play there and hope he can. But this this to me,
- 3:41Speaker 2: looks like you're looking for Javonte Williams after you let
- 3:44Speaker 2: Javonte Williams go.
- 3:45Speaker 3: So after Jeff Lewell completely torched Brett Kains theory. So
- 3:50Speaker 3: you wanted an insurance, you just wanted an insurance polish.
- 3:53Speaker 1: I think that having depth in the backfield, especially from
- 3:55Speaker 1: a veteran, which you don't have.
- 3:56Speaker 5: It would be great. Leggy.
- 3:58Speaker 3: What would that price tag be you has to.
- 4:00Speaker 5: You know, I'm not sure. I mean, you could look around.
- 4:03Speaker 2: It's probably a one, one year deal, a two year deal,
- 4:06Speaker 2: something short, you know, and the guy gets back in
- 4:10Speaker 2: the market. I think if you're Dobbins, you know, to
- 4:14Speaker 2: come back from the two injuries. You know, he missed
- 4:17Speaker 2: all but one game in twenty twenty three. He missed
- 4:21Speaker 2: all of the twenty twenty one season. So I'm sure
- 4:24Speaker 2: at this point he he wants as good a situation
- 4:28Speaker 2: as he can get because he knows. I mean again,
- 4:32Speaker 2: he missed four games last year after he had two
- 4:34Speaker 2: really good games to open the year, and then after that,
- 4:39Speaker 2: I think it was a bit of a you know,
- 4:42Speaker 2: he wasn't nearly as good. He had a very good
- 4:44Speaker 2: game against the Broncos, and I'm sure that that had
- 4:47Speaker 2: a little bit to do with the visit. He looked
- 4:49Speaker 2: really good against the Broncos last year. So but I,
- 4:55Speaker 2: you know, I think this is an indication the head
- 4:58Speaker 2: coach really likes this team and they want as much
- 5:04Speaker 2: veteran insurance or insurance all over the place as they
- 5:07Speaker 2: can get because he feels really good about this team
- 5:12Speaker 2: and he doesn't want to get caught shorthanded if they
- 5:15Speaker 2: can avoid it.
- 5:16Speaker 4: I'm tired of glazing you, but I can't help it.
- 5:20Speaker 5: Again.
- 5:20Speaker 4: A good article on bo Nicks and what I found
- 5:24Speaker 4: to be interesting, Jeff, We're not talking football, We're talking
- 5:27Speaker 4: about bo Nicks the guy, right, the leader. They off
- 5:30Speaker 4: the field kind of stuff and maybe on the field
- 5:33Speaker 4: a little bit, but it was really good and getting
- 5:35Speaker 4: all those different perspectives. You think that's why again, when
- 5:38Speaker 4: Sean Payton looks at his quarterback that he feels so
- 5:41Speaker 4: secure when you see these former teammates and these other
- 5:45Speaker 4: people really glow about bo Nicks the person, how much
- 5:49Speaker 4: does that help with Sean Payton's confidence in this guy
- 5:51Speaker 4: to be his guy for the next decade.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Wells, I think any coach wants to see it. No
- 5:57Speaker 2: matter what position you coach, you want to see guys
- 6:01Speaker 2: who can handle their business, or you think can handle
- 6:04Speaker 2: their business. And I've believed since bo Nick's walked in
- 6:09Speaker 2: whatever he has to work on as a football player,
- 6:12Speaker 2: and you know, like any player, there's a lot there
- 6:16Speaker 2: he's got to work on and get better at and
- 6:18Speaker 2: all of those things.
- 6:19Speaker 5: But the one thing.
- 6:20Speaker 2: He does as good as any young player I've ever
- 6:24Speaker 2: seen is self awareness. He's got a better self awareness
- 6:29Speaker 2: about where he is as a player, what he needs
- 6:32Speaker 2: to do, what he wants to do. I think he
- 6:35Speaker 2: has a better self awareness than almost everybody else about
- 6:40Speaker 2: him in the building. And I think that's a great
- 6:44Speaker 2: advantage for him because he'll never get caught up in
- 6:48Speaker 2: the rest of it.
- 6:49Speaker 5: So to speak.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Is the word self awareness or humility, because I sense
- 6:53Speaker 3: so much of humility. No matter how good he gets,
- 6:55Speaker 3: he's always going to be sort of down to earth.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Well, I think that's that's all in that equation, you know,
- 7:01Speaker 2: it's you know, I think he by self awareness, I
- 7:05Speaker 2: think he understands when he's on the field, you know,
- 7:10Speaker 2: it's fiery and you know, competitive and and all of
- 7:14Speaker 2: those things. And then when he's off the field, he's
- 7:17Speaker 2: very good about stepping back and sort of peeling the
- 7:21Speaker 2: layers away and say, okay, you know, I get past
- 7:24Speaker 2: fist bumps and and you know, confetti, what what really
- 7:29Speaker 2: happened on this play?
- 7:30Speaker 5: What really happened in this game?
- 7:32Speaker 2: I think he's really good at that and that, you know,
- 7:36Speaker 2: I think certain is another guy who has that really
- 7:40Speaker 2: good self awareness. And you know it's gonna sound hokey,
- 7:45Speaker 2: but you go back to the you know, to their families,
- 7:48Speaker 2: the people who are around them. Uh, it's what they saw,
- 7:52Speaker 2: what they learned, what they took away from from their
- 7:56Speaker 2: role models and their life, and that's I just think it.
- 8:00Speaker 2: It really bodes well for him because people, I think player,
- 8:02Speaker 2: young players get in a difficult situation when they start
- 8:08Speaker 2: believing all of the criticism and when they start believing
- 8:11Speaker 2: all of the praise.
- 8:12Speaker 5: And I think that's the toughest thing.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Especially now with social media, you can if you're a
- 8:18Speaker 2: young football player in the NFL, you can find commentary
- 8:21Speaker 2: about you everywhere constantly, and to deal with that, I
- 8:27Speaker 2: think is an important part of it.
- 8:30Speaker 1: The leading pass catcher as far as receptions from a
- 8:34Speaker 1: tight end last year on the Broncos was Lucas Kroll,
- 8:37Speaker 1: who had nineteen obviously, go ahead.
- 8:41Speaker 5: No, I think he was like, you know, two hundred
- 8:43Speaker 5: and fiftieth in the league or something like that. Jefly.
- 8:46Speaker 4: Yeah, when Bret laid out the numbers yesterday, we knew
- 8:48Speaker 4: it was poultry. It was abysmal.
- 8:51Speaker 1: So whatever you're going to get out of Ingram is
- 8:54Speaker 1: going to be a elevation from that. But what would
- 8:57Speaker 1: you say is like sort of bare minimum ideal season
- 9:01Speaker 1: for Ingram from a numbers perspective, assuming he stays healthy
- 9:04Speaker 1: for seventeen games.
- 9:06Speaker 5: But I don't. I don't think i'd look at it
- 9:09Speaker 5: in catches.
- 9:10Speaker 2: I think I would look at it as options for
- 9:14Speaker 2: Knicks in certain situations, like if he has a high
- 9:17Speaker 2: percentage of third down catches, I think that's good. If
- 9:21Speaker 2: he has if he has a high percentage of catches
- 9:24Speaker 2: down the hash marks, vertical catches down the hash marks,
- 9:28Speaker 2: I think that's good. Uh, That's where I would look
- 9:32Speaker 2: because again, uh, last year, you know, only one other
- 9:38Speaker 2: quarterback in the league had more passing yards than bow
- 9:41Speaker 2: Knicks on crossing routes. So that can that tells you
- 9:45Speaker 2: where the Broncos passing offense is. Right now, it's get
- 9:50Speaker 2: the ball out of Nick's hand, and it's always going
- 9:52Speaker 2: to be that with Sean Payton, but I think he
- 9:56Speaker 2: adds diversity that they didn't have, and that that, to me,
- 9:59Speaker 2: success is if if when the season's over and you're
- 10:05Speaker 2: crunching bo Nix's numbers, you have a lot more variety
- 10:10Speaker 2: in where the ball's going, And to me, that would
- 10:13Speaker 2: be successful if they can do that.
- 10:16Speaker 3: I can't believe I'm asking this question, but I've seen
- 10:19Speaker 3: some whispers of this out there, and I'm just gonna
- 10:21Speaker 3: flat out ask a guy who covers a team on
- 10:23Speaker 3: a daily basis, and the Broncos win the Super Bowl,
- 10:27Speaker 3: what are all these talks? I mean, people are actually
- 10:29Speaker 3: saying they're a contender, can be a contender. Are we
- 10:32Speaker 3: there yet?
- 10:33Speaker 4: You know?
- 10:34Speaker 2: You know, I guess you know. I don't want to
- 10:36Speaker 2: be the get off my long guy all the time.
- 10:39Speaker 2: But you know, how about they win the division first,
- 10:41Speaker 2: and let's let's talk about that. You know, I think
- 10:46Speaker 2: you have to show if you're the Broncos or the
- 10:49Speaker 2: Raiders or the Chargers, if you're in the AFC West,
- 10:53Speaker 2: you have to show you can finish in front of
- 10:56Speaker 2: the Chiefs.
- 10:57Speaker 5: And then to me, you can talk about the super Bowl.
- 11:00Speaker 2: But I'm not shocked you're seeing this all around in
- 11:05Speaker 2: the national narrative because again, I will tell you, the
- 11:09Speaker 2: head coach likes this team, and I'm sure he's conveyed
- 11:13Speaker 2: that to people when he's spoken to him. Now, has
- 11:17Speaker 2: he used the word super Bowl? I don't know that,
- 11:19Speaker 2: but I know he likes this team. He likes the
- 11:22Speaker 2: way it's constructed. He likes what he and George Peyton
- 11:26Speaker 2: have done in free agency with you know, somewhat limited
- 11:31Speaker 2: capability and all those things. They like their defense, they
- 11:36Speaker 2: like their special teams, and he likes his quarterback. And
- 11:40Speaker 2: in today's NFL, if you have those three things, you're
- 11:44Speaker 2: in the playoff mix.
- 11:45Speaker 5: Frankly good.
- 11:48Speaker 4: Not that they snuck up on anybody last year, but
- 11:50Speaker 4: they ain't sneaking up on anybody this year.
- 11:53Speaker 2: I mean, they don't get the NFC South most I
- 11:55Speaker 2: mean people, they got four wins out of the division
- 12:00Speaker 2: Payton has owned, you know, in his career. So, uh,
- 12:05Speaker 2: I think there's a multiplier last year, you know, in
- 12:08Speaker 2: in the record because you know that was a that
- 12:12Speaker 2: was a stroke of good fortune. Uh, they don't have
- 12:15Speaker 2: and this coming season, you know, the first six weeks
- 12:19Speaker 2: of the year. They cannot afford to sort of stumble
- 12:24Speaker 2: out of the gate. They have to finish August.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Ready to go, Leggy, one last question, and Vic, can
- 12:30Speaker 1: you please give him the list? Vick is going to
- 12:32Speaker 1: be at Coors Field today for the Broncos Home Run
- 12:36Speaker 1: Derby Challenge, and give him the list of Broncos participating.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Leggy will tell us who he believes will win.
- 12:42Speaker 3: All right, these are these are the dudes. Uh, let's
- 12:46Speaker 3: see here. I've got it here because I'm one of
- 12:48Speaker 3: the mcs. Are Here we go the Broncos participating, Alex Singleton,
- 12:53Speaker 3: Themari Matthews, Ja Kwan McMillan, Jonathan Cooper, Marvin Mims, Zach Allen,
- 13:00Speaker 3: Julia McLoughlin, Courtland Sutton, Quinn Miners, Adam Trauman, Garrett Bowles.
- 13:05Speaker 3: And then you've got some influencers social media dude Dad,
- 13:10Speaker 3: Ben Verlander, Ryan Ellington and something called d S A
- 13:15Speaker 3: r M.
- 13:16Speaker 1: You seem like a dude dad viewer.
- 13:19Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, my kids. My kids crushed me because
- 13:23Speaker 5: of my of my shutting of the influencers.
- 13:26Speaker 3: If you had to pick one of those names to
- 13:28Speaker 3: win the Home Run Derby, who do you pick among
- 13:34Speaker 3: the Bronco players.
- 13:37Speaker 4: Did we lose him?
- 13:38Speaker 3: Right at the time he was going to give us.
- 13:41Speaker 5: The answer, He's now, okay, yeah, you froze on me.
- 13:45Speaker 5: I didn't know what you were doing.
- 13:48Speaker 1: So out of the list of names that you heard
- 13:50Speaker 1: that were Broncos, the winner is going to be who.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Well, Bowles was an elite lacrosse player, so I'm liking
- 13:58Speaker 2: him swinging.
- 13:59Speaker 5: A bat, know, and a different type of swing. Yeah,
- 14:04Speaker 5: but still I like the multi sport guys.
- 14:08Speaker 3: No, no, let him answer the question.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Yeah, Sutton, multi sport guy. I like the multi sport
- 14:15Speaker 2: guys in this activity.
- 14:16Speaker 4: All right, So Sutton or Bulls is what what I
- 14:20Speaker 4: was gonna say, Brett, because I wanted him to address it.
- 14:23Speaker 4: You realize that a baseball swing and a kicking motion
- 14:25Speaker 4: are identical. You realize that, right, That's what.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Vic told me yesterday.
- 14:29Speaker 3: I'm trying to describe.
- 14:30Speaker 4: You realize that he's look you look at his face, Jeff.
- 14:34Speaker 3: They're not sophisticated human beings. I'm talking to peasants here,
- 14:37Speaker 3: and what I'm trying to describe to them is the
- 14:39Speaker 3: kicking motion. The physics of the kicking motion very much
- 14:43Speaker 3: similar to the physics of hitting themself.
- 14:46Speaker 4: Do you want to and they don't choose lots? Do
- 14:48Speaker 4: you want to rethink your lut's Uh, your lut's non pick.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Well, you know, I can see Vic struggle with getting
- 14:55Speaker 2: you guys to have nuanced You know, I guess I
- 14:58Speaker 2: go there, But uh, I'm sticking with my multi sport guys.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's a great answer. It's a great answer
- 15:06Speaker 1: athletes athletes.
- 15:08Speaker 5: Bowles wasn't just a good lacrosse player. Bowles was like
- 15:12Speaker 5: big time.
- 15:13Speaker 4: But how do I know that? I don't know. Some
- 15:16Speaker 4: of these guys didn't rake in high school. Maybe Marvin
- 15:19Speaker 4: Mims was a hell of an outfield. You don't know.
- 15:22Speaker 2: No, I mean, in my draft prep for all of
- 15:25Speaker 2: those guys, I don't remember baseball being in the equation
- 15:29Speaker 2: for any of them. That doesn't mean I also can't
- 15:33Speaker 2: remember recycling days. So let's just say I don't remember
- 15:36Speaker 2: everything like.
- 15:38Speaker 4: You're the best.
- 15:38Speaker 3: So I appreciate the time.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Thank you, buddyball ESPN dot Com. All Conversations with Leggy
- 15:44Speaker 1: brought to you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
- 15:46Speaker 1: ib W Local sixty eight. Start with a job and
- 15:49Speaker 1: with the career.
- 15:49Speaker 4: I really liked his article with Nix. Yeah, some good
- 15:52Speaker 4: stuff from Bonnix, but good stuff from from other people
- 15:55Speaker 4: about him, including uh a guy that played with him
- 15:59Speaker 4: at all, A getting Tess Johnson talking about adopted family
- 16:03Speaker 4: and all that. It's it's it's a pretty damn good article.
