- 0:03Speaker 1: Welcome to the net Paltea.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Hi.
- 0:07Speaker 3: This is Nick and Ostasu, story editor on Star Wars,
- 0:10Speaker 3: The Clone Wars and Star Wars bad Batch, and you
- 0:14Speaker 3: are listening to Aggressive Negotiations.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Warmest of welcomes to Aggressive Negotiations, the Star Wars podcast
- 0:35Speaker 1: that explores all of the nooks and crannies and celebrates
- 0:39Speaker 1: every aspect that it can of the Star Wars galaxy.
- 0:43Speaker 1: I am one of the co hosts of this show,
- 0:46Speaker 1: Jedi Master John Mills, and I'm joined on this special
- 0:49Speaker 1: journey where we are commemorating a special anniversary by Jedi
- 0:54Speaker 1: Master Matthew Rushing, my dear friend matt. Of course, we
- 1:00Speaker 1: know why we're here today, we know why we are
- 1:04Speaker 1: going to be having this discussion. We know we know
- 1:09Speaker 1: what we're going to be discussing tonight. But before we
- 1:12Speaker 1: get to that, I want to ask you if there
- 1:16Speaker 1: were one single moment in Star Wars that you would
- 1:22Speaker 1: want to exist within, what would it be?
- 1:26Speaker 4: Wow, that is a great question. I would say there's
- 1:33Speaker 4: one moment. One moment I mean probably frolicking in the
- 1:40Speaker 4: fields of Naboo next to the world's most outrageous waterfall,
- 1:47Speaker 4: climbing and riding on shacks and you know, just rolling
- 1:51Speaker 4: around on the grass with the prettiest senator you've ever seen.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Fascinating, fascinat I would personally choose probably being on one
- 2:06Speaker 1: of the ships that didn't get destroyed in the opening
- 2:08Speaker 1: battle of Revenge of the Sith, because I think that
- 2:11Speaker 1: would be pretty cool thing to be witnessing. But again,
- 2:15Speaker 1: important qualifier, not destroyed. It's important destroyed, very big, very
- 2:22Speaker 1: very big qualifier. Got to get that one out of
- 2:25Speaker 1: the way, just as everybody else should get out of
- 2:27Speaker 1: the way of themselves and get over to Apple Podcasts
- 2:31Speaker 1: or whatever podcatcher you're on. Give us a star rating,
- 2:35Speaker 1: a good star rating, we hope, because it helps people
- 2:37Speaker 1: discover the show, go ahead and find us over on
- 2:42Speaker 1: social media. We are on ex Twitter at the Jedi Masters.
- 2:46Speaker 1: The network is at joy Nerd Party on ex Twitter,
- 2:50Speaker 1: and the Nerd Party on Facebook and Instagram, and probably
- 2:54Speaker 1: others that I've forgotten because I'm a lowly traveler in
- 2:58Speaker 1: this great galaxy. I don't know everything about these socials
- 3:03Speaker 1: and all of that stuff.
- 3:04Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Maybe maybe we'll just say the hull in net. But
- 3:07Speaker 1: Matt here, we are celebrating the twentieth anniversary of Revenge
- 3:13Speaker 1: of the Sith. As we record this, we're closing out
- 3:17Speaker 1: the one week long special engagement for episode three that
- 3:22Speaker 1: got the theatrical re release. We know we have some
- 3:25Speaker 1: other items, like the re release of the novelization in
- 3:29Speaker 1: annotated format. We have special releases. For some reason, still
- 3:34Speaker 1: no expanded remastered soundtrack score release. You know, why would
- 3:38Speaker 1: you do that? What sense would that make? That would
- 3:41Speaker 1: just be John makes sense?
- 3:44Speaker 3: You know.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just money, money, you could.
- 3:48Speaker 1: I don't know who needs money. Not Disney apparently definitely
- 3:53Speaker 1: not Disney. No, they don't, they really do.
- 3:55Speaker 2: They don't like money, they like spending money. They don't
- 3:58Speaker 2: like getting it from me. I don't know. I don't
- 3:59Speaker 2: get it.
- 4:00Speaker 1: But you know, let's take a minute here, you know,
- 4:04Speaker 1: the figurative minute, and let's really enjoy Revenge of the
- 4:10Speaker 1: Sith the second time. It was the last time that
- 4:14Speaker 1: Star Wars was going to be.
- 4:15Speaker 2: In the movie theaters.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Recreate for us what it was like for you twenty
- 4:20Speaker 1: years ago with Revenge of the Sith.
- 4:23Speaker 4: Okay, so I probably told a story before somewhere, but
- 4:28Speaker 4: I was working at a insurance agency call center at
- 4:33Speaker 4: the time and some friends of mine and I were
- 4:37Speaker 4: all going to go to the midnight showing at one
- 4:40Speaker 4: of the few digital screens in Dallas. And it's the
- 4:48Speaker 4: you know, early very early afternoon, maybe right after one
- 4:53Speaker 4: or something like that, and our boss lets us go
- 4:57Speaker 4: early so that we can go get in line. That's
- 5:00Speaker 4: what you did then, you had to go get in line,
- 5:02Speaker 4: even for a midnight showing, right And so with my
- 5:06Speaker 4: friends we got in line. I'm wearing my Master Replica's
- 5:11Speaker 4: Obi Wan lightsaber on my hip. You know, I've got
- 5:16Speaker 4: the belt clip. I literally have the same T shirt
- 5:21Speaker 4: twenty years later that I wore when I went and
- 5:24Speaker 4: saw the film that I was wearing. Then the episode
- 5:27Speaker 4: Revenge of the Sith episode like the box version, it's
- 5:30Speaker 4: as you.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Know, And.
- 5:34Speaker 4: So we stand in line for about ten hours or
- 5:37Speaker 4: so so that we can get seats, good seats. I mean,
- 5:42Speaker 4: the line was around the building. You know, it's a
- 5:46Speaker 4: party atmosphere, John, I don't know if you remember what
- 5:49Speaker 4: it was like being in line with a bunch of
- 5:51Speaker 4: Star Wars fans.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Oh, I remember, you know what. I love your mentioning
- 5:56Speaker 1: that part of it, because you're right, it was festival
- 5:58Speaker 1: atmosphere back then something that's been lost with pre sales.
- 6:03Speaker 1: The festival atmosphere was so much No, no, you're anyway,
- 6:07Speaker 1: You're right.
- 6:07Speaker 4: I mean it really was this party atmosphere. I mean
- 6:09Speaker 4: there there were people there that have been in line,
- 6:11Speaker 4: that had been camped out, you know everything, and so
- 6:15Speaker 4: there were there were raffles going on for lightsabers like
- 6:20Speaker 4: Master Replica's Force Effects lightsabers. I still kicked myself because
- 6:25Speaker 4: if I had spent one more dollar, I would have
- 6:28Speaker 4: won that Master Replica's Darth Vader lightsaber would have been amazing.
- 6:33Speaker 4: And so uh and then you know, we finally get
- 6:37Speaker 4: into the auditorium so that we can wait for the movie.
- 6:42Speaker 4: We've got our seats. There are people you know, down
- 6:46Speaker 4: in front of the screen, lightsaber battling and all of that,
- 6:49Speaker 4: and then of course the place goes dark. The crowd erupts,
- 6:53Speaker 4: you know, as soon as the lucasfilm logo comes on,
- 6:57Speaker 4: and pandemonium as the music swells and the crawl comes,
- 7:03Speaker 4: and I mean it was glorious, you know. I know
- 7:07Speaker 4: you guys talk about this type of thing on house lights,
- 7:10Speaker 4: like if you saw the movie in the theater, and
- 7:12Speaker 4: like I don't always remember you know the times I
- 7:15Speaker 4: saw a movie in a theater, because many times it's
- 7:17Speaker 4: just like, yeah, I went to the theater, I saw
- 7:18Speaker 4: the movie, and you know, but this is indelibly marked
- 7:21Speaker 4: in my brain because it was just so exciting seeing
- 7:25Speaker 4: the prequel trilogy, all three films, you know, especially this
- 7:29Speaker 4: one because you know, this was the end of the
- 7:31Speaker 4: saga at that point. So what about you? What was
- 7:34Speaker 4: what was your experience twenty years ago?
- 7:37Speaker 1: And I know that in the many years of podcasting,
- 7:40Speaker 1: like you said, I'm sure this story has been recounted elsewhere,
- 7:43Speaker 1: but you know what, let's let's recount it for everybody here.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Okay.
- 7:48Speaker 1: So I was at a very specific point in my life.
- 7:51Speaker 1: I was actually working for an association and we were
- 7:55Speaker 1: having our annual conference in Louisville, Kentucky. It had never
- 7:59Speaker 1: been to louisvill before, and uh so I was married,
- 8:04Speaker 1: not even for a year by that point, and I
- 8:08Speaker 1: was there in Louisville and my wife flew out to
- 8:13Speaker 1: Louisville to meet up with me to go to the
- 8:16Speaker 1: midnight showing. I blew off work events that night because
- 8:20Speaker 1: you know, when you for anybody who hasn't gone through
- 8:23Speaker 1: the conference sort of vibe. There's an expectation, you have
- 8:28Speaker 1: to go out to dinner. You have the mixer, you
- 8:30Speaker 1: have this, you have the thata, blah blah blah. Well,
- 8:33Speaker 1: everybody knew that my wife was in town, and I didn't.
- 8:37Speaker 1: I danced around the idea of where I was going
- 8:40Speaker 1: to be because I didn't want to get in trouble
- 8:41Speaker 1: with my boss. And it was actually my wife's contact
- 8:46Speaker 1: with the Convention Visitors Bureau. Her contact there secured the
- 8:50Speaker 1: tickets for us, took us out to dinner, and then
- 8:55Speaker 1: we actually we ate outdoors. It was very nice, and
- 8:58Speaker 1: then we went into the theater and it was a
- 9:00Speaker 1: very surreal experience because the CVB rep was on one
- 9:04Speaker 1: side of me, which surprised us. We were like, oh,
- 9:07Speaker 1: you're going to be here with us. Cool, great guy.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Don't remember his name. Let's say it was Mark. Sure
- 9:15Speaker 1: it might have been actually, but anyway, and then you know,
- 9:17Speaker 1: my wife is on the other side of me, and
- 9:19Speaker 1: I remember the only thing I really remember. I remember
- 9:21Speaker 1: the seat I was in. I remember it was a
- 9:23Speaker 1: full house. I remember it was twelve or one am,
- 9:25Speaker 1: and I was thinking to myself, Oh my gosh, I
- 9:27Speaker 1: have to be up at five point thirty. This might
- 9:30Speaker 1: have been a bad mistake on my part, but of
- 9:34Speaker 1: course it wasn't. And I remember the title crawl going
- 9:39Speaker 1: and getting choked up during the title crawl because what
- 9:43Speaker 1: I was alluding to before it was the second time,
- 9:46Speaker 1: it was the last time, and we all thought it
- 9:48Speaker 1: was the final time that we were going to get
- 9:50Speaker 1: Star Wars in the movie theater. And it felt like in.
- 9:54Speaker 2: That moment.
- 9:57Speaker 1: I was married, I was at a big grown up
- 10:00Speaker 1: conference sort of thing, and I'm watching the last Star
- 10:02Speaker 1: Wars movie.
- 10:03Speaker 2: It felt like.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Childhood was ending all over again, or second childhood was ending.
- 10:11Speaker 2: What have you? And I got to ask.
- 10:15Speaker 1: You, like, what did you walk out of the theater
- 10:18Speaker 1: instantly in love with Revenge of the Sith or was
- 10:20Speaker 1: it something where you didn't know how to react to it?
- 10:22Speaker 1: Like walk everybody through that too? Oh?
- 10:25Speaker 4: No, I mean this was love at first sight. I
- 10:29Speaker 4: mean this this Star Wars movie rocketed up to my
- 10:34Speaker 4: second favorite Star Wars movie at that point. So it
- 10:36Speaker 4: was Empire Strikes Back and then Revenge of the Sith.
- 10:39Speaker 4: I mean, it was that good, and it was kind of,
- 10:45Speaker 4: you know, with all the anticipation for me, this is
- 10:49Speaker 4: everything I hoped it would be coming out the first time,
- 10:54Speaker 4: and you know I felt like that, you know, Lucas
- 10:58Speaker 4: had knocked it out of the park, you know, I mean, gosh,
- 11:05Speaker 4: what was it? I think Nick shared with us that
- 11:08Speaker 4: Camille Paglia speech where she's talking about the end of
- 11:13Speaker 4: Revenge of the Sith and how it's the most operatic
- 11:15Speaker 4: thing that had been done in film in like thirty years,
- 11:18Speaker 4: and it's like, that's how I felt about the movie, right,
- 11:22Speaker 4: That's how I felt about the end, where it was
- 11:24Speaker 4: just the culmination of the years of love of Star
- 11:29Speaker 4: Wars and you know, then it ending on the Twin
- 11:34Speaker 4: Suns and then the music hits and it's just like, Okay,
- 11:37Speaker 4: this is perfect. You know you wanted to just go
- 11:39Speaker 4: home and watch Star Wars at that point, right, so
- 11:43Speaker 4: you could dive into the original trilogy. And so yeah,
- 11:46Speaker 4: I mean for me, it was this is this is
- 11:49Speaker 4: exactly what I wanted.
- 11:51Speaker 2: What about you?
- 11:52Speaker 4: I mean, I think I know the answer. I'm pretty
- 11:55Speaker 4: sure it was love at first sight for you as well.
- 11:58Speaker 2: You know, I would like it.
- 12:00Speaker 1: My reaction again, because I'd worked the whole day to
- 12:03Speaker 1: conference blah blahlah blah blah, was honestly the only thing
- 12:07Speaker 1: I could say would be like numb, because it was
- 12:12Speaker 1: I was so tired. But additionally, it was sort of
- 12:15Speaker 1: like when I walked out of Dunkirk, where I was
- 12:21Speaker 1: so overloaded with what I felt about it that I
- 12:24Speaker 1: couldn't express how I felt about it except to know
- 12:29Speaker 1: that I was in love with it immediately. It was
- 12:33Speaker 1: I remember that first breathtaking shot. I still think it's
- 12:37Speaker 1: the best opening shot of any Star Wars film, when
- 12:40Speaker 1: it pans down and it just has the Marshall drums, just.
- 12:43Speaker 2: The boom boom, boom boom.
- 12:46Speaker 1: And it comes down as the cruiser is going across,
- 12:49Speaker 1: and I just remember from that moment on, I was like, Okay,
- 12:54Speaker 1: we're changing the rules as we go, and having real
- 12:59Speaker 1: like this was out of the gate. This was Lucas
- 13:05Speaker 1: incomplete control of everything. He finally had every tool in
- 13:10Speaker 1: his toolbox he wanted, and he finally put it all together,
- 13:14Speaker 1: and it was It says so many incredible things. I
- 13:23Speaker 1: think it's it is an incredible film. Obviously it moves
- 13:28Speaker 1: me to this day. There are certain things that still
- 13:32Speaker 1: can move make me very emotional, or even move me
- 13:35Speaker 1: to tears when I'm watching it, because, like you said,
- 13:37Speaker 1: the big operatic stuff, And I think that it gets
- 13:41Speaker 1: a fair amount of leeway from even the prequel haters.
- 13:46Speaker 1: They'll give it some love. But you know, honestly, like
- 13:52Speaker 1: someone's we're talking about reactions like, did you run across
- 13:54Speaker 1: anybody that that disliked it?
- 13:56Speaker 2: Anybody?
- 13:56Speaker 1: Because I have a friend who hates it, who thinks
- 14:00Speaker 1: it's garbage, who thinks it's terrible, who wouldn't couldn't be
- 14:04Speaker 1: bothered watching it, all those sorts of things, has nothing
- 14:07Speaker 1: but problems with it. Did you run across anybody that
- 14:10Speaker 1: was dismissive like that with this?
- 14:13Speaker 4: I don't think I've ever run across anybody who's that
- 14:17Speaker 4: outright dismissive of the film. You know. I've run across
- 14:20Speaker 4: people where, you know, they don't hold it in as
- 14:23Speaker 4: high regard as I do. But I don't think I've
- 14:27Speaker 4: ever run across anybody who just abjectly hates the film.
- 14:33Speaker 4: They're just like, that's terrible, it's the worst.
- 14:37Speaker 2: You know.
- 14:37Speaker 4: I think, like you said, it became the film that
- 14:41Speaker 4: was universally, oh, this is absolutely the best of the prequels,
- 14:44Speaker 4: you know, even for those people who didn't like the prequels.
- 14:47Speaker 4: So you know, that that's where I found most people land.
- 14:55Speaker 4: The thing is what I always go back to is
- 14:59Speaker 4: that there was someone I worked with in years after
- 15:07Speaker 4: and she had never seen the prequels and she.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Did. You know.
- 15:15Speaker 1: It was basically one of those things that I was like, listen,
- 15:16Speaker 1: we're coworkers, were, here are the movies. Let's watch them, right,
- 15:20Speaker 1: Let's let's let's have a time, let's hang let's watch
- 15:23Speaker 1: these and you know, because I mean, any any opportunity
- 15:26Speaker 1: you get to sort of like evangelize Star Wars. I'll
- 15:29Speaker 1: never forget when she finally saw episode three, she cried
- 15:36Speaker 1: at the end of it and she was like, you
- 15:39Speaker 1: you didn't She basically said, what was the effect if
- 15:41Speaker 1: you didn't warn me about this? And I was like, well, yeah,
- 15:44Speaker 1: I know. And then when we when we and we
- 15:48Speaker 1: watched it in you know, episode order, and then when
- 15:51Speaker 1: we got to episode four. I'll never forget getting to
- 15:54Speaker 1: the obi Wan Vader fight and her comment being oh, wow,
- 15:58Speaker 1: this is so much deeper than it used to be.
- 16:01Speaker 2: And I said, right, isn't this great?
- 16:03Speaker 1: And I like, it hurts my soul that there are
- 16:07Speaker 1: people that are so dismissive of the prequels, but it
- 16:10Speaker 1: hurts me in a tremendous way. Now you know the
- 16:13Speaker 1: gag I always say, like when somebody's like, oh, well
- 16:15Speaker 1: I didn't like that, It's like, I don't make money
- 16:17Speaker 1: on it.
- 16:17Speaker 2: I don't care.
- 16:18Speaker 1: You know, whether you whether somebody likes it or not
- 16:20Speaker 1: is honestly immaterial to me unless I want the intellectual
- 16:25Speaker 1: exercise of discussing it, and I have. You know, I
- 16:29Speaker 1: know people who have those negative reactions to this, and
- 16:35Speaker 1: I mean, I just I struggle with that to this day.
- 16:39Speaker 1: I struggle with any of the prequel hatred to this day.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Is it fair to say, oh, these things could have
- 16:44Speaker 1: been done better? It was a little ambitious for its
- 16:46Speaker 1: time in terms of its effects. He should have taken
- 16:49Speaker 1: twenty years between movies, like James Cameron. Yeah, sure, okay,
- 16:53Speaker 1: I'll listen to your opinions, but I sure as hell
- 16:57Speaker 1: won't agree with them. But did you spoil anything for
- 17:01Speaker 1: yourself beforehand?
- 17:02Speaker 2: Did you? Did you like? How spoiler free? Did you stay?
- 17:06Speaker 1: Because I know that I had a lot of friends
- 17:09Speaker 1: who were at various levels. There were people don't tell
- 17:11Speaker 1: me even a character name, But then there were people
- 17:14Speaker 1: that were saying things like you know what they read
- 17:18Speaker 1: the novelization, listening to the score, read all the behind
- 17:20Speaker 1: the scenes stuff, all that stuff. How spoiler free were
- 17:23Speaker 1: you going into it?
- 17:25Speaker 4: I think I was probably and this is man, it's
- 17:28Speaker 4: hard to remember, not point, but I wasn't somebody who
- 17:32Speaker 4: wanted to know what was going to happen in the movie.
- 17:37Speaker 4: And so now I have always been somebody who enjoys
- 17:42Speaker 4: listening to the soundtrack before the movie comes out. That's
- 17:45Speaker 4: that's I like that. Of course, you know, we were
- 17:49Speaker 4: all a little surprised with the Episode one soundtrack when
- 17:53Speaker 4: we looked at the back and really.
- 17:54Speaker 1: All got burned on that one. Yeah, we all got
- 17:56Speaker 1: burned on that one.
- 17:57Speaker 3: That was interesting.
- 17:59Speaker 4: But otherwise, you know, I didn't want to know what
- 18:03Speaker 4: was going to happen in the movie, because part of
- 18:04Speaker 4: you know, going to a film is you know, you're
- 18:07Speaker 4: excited about it, you've seen the trailers or whatever, but
- 18:10Speaker 4: you want to be able to experience the movie on
- 18:13Speaker 4: the big screen and with the crowd and everything.
- 18:16Speaker 2: And so no, I wasn't.
- 18:19Speaker 4: I wasn't spoiled at which I think, can can we
- 18:24Speaker 4: just talk for a second about, like twenty years later,
- 18:28Speaker 4: what it's like to revisit the film on the big screen,
- 18:32Speaker 4: and even though we all have big screen TVs at home,
- 18:38Speaker 4: there really is something different about seeing, especially a Star
- 18:42Speaker 4: Wars film on a massive screen.
- 18:47Speaker 1: Yeah, you're seeing it in the environment it was composed for.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Like I can listen to Beethoven's Ninth on a record
- 18:57Speaker 1: on streaming anything like that, But if I go and
- 19:02Speaker 1: I see it in concert with a live orchestra, it's
- 19:07Speaker 1: completely different experience. It's the same type of it's the
- 19:10Speaker 1: same piece of the literal exact same piece of music.
- 19:13Speaker 1: I could even hear the same people live who were recorded,
- 19:19Speaker 1: and there is that intangible different energy. Is it because
- 19:24Speaker 1: we know we're in a communal space our brain processes
- 19:28Speaker 1: it differently, or is it I'll be honest with you
- 19:32Speaker 1: this time, I want to ask you about this. This time,
- 19:34Speaker 1: when I was watching in the theater, the sound mix
- 19:38Speaker 1: was better than when I watched it at home. Now
- 19:43Speaker 1: I don't have any fancy sound systems or anything like that,
- 19:45Speaker 1: but there was so much background ambient noise mixed in
- 19:50Speaker 1: that like it sounded brand new to me, where I
- 19:54Speaker 1: was like whoa, whoa, whoa. This sounds amazing compared to
- 19:58Speaker 1: when I watch it at home. So like and that
- 20:01Speaker 1: in and of itself was crazy, just like even the
- 20:04Speaker 1: incidental stuff. Did you did you notice a marked difference
- 20:08Speaker 1: in like the sound or picture quality?
- 20:10Speaker 4: I think definitely the sound mix. I mean, my wife
- 20:14Speaker 4: and I have a really good sound system at home,
- 20:17Speaker 4: but I mean, you know a movie theater that has
- 20:21Speaker 4: thousands of dollars worth of sound system, you know, it's
- 20:24Speaker 4: completely different. And I think that the other thing picture
- 20:33Speaker 4: wise that I just was realizing is, you know, episode
- 20:37Speaker 4: three especially, and all the prequels are like this, but
- 20:41Speaker 4: Episode three specifically, the screen is so full, right, yeah,
- 20:46Speaker 4: and of things, and I was noticing all of these
- 20:53Speaker 4: things that you just don't normally notice on even a
- 20:56Speaker 4: television screen as large as we have them these days,
- 21:00Speaker 4: because you have that expanse that is just so much
- 21:07Speaker 4: bigger than what you can have at home, and it
- 21:11Speaker 4: draws your eyes to all of these different things on
- 21:14Speaker 4: the screen that you just might not have at home again.
- 21:17Speaker 4: And so that experience was a thing that really it was.
- 21:22Speaker 4: It wasn't like seeing the movie for the first time,
- 21:26Speaker 4: but completely reminded just how awesome it is to watch
- 21:34Speaker 4: big screen films where they're meant to be seen and
- 21:40Speaker 4: and so that's the thing that just kind of really
- 21:44Speaker 4: stuck out to me. And you know, I was talking
- 21:46Speaker 4: about to this with I went to the I was
- 21:49Speaker 4: in Phoenix and went and saw the movie with our
- 21:52Speaker 4: friend Nancy, and together we were talking about that, you know,
- 21:58Speaker 4: in the hallway and it was just good night. You know,
- 22:01Speaker 4: this is it is just a different experience, and that
- 22:05Speaker 4: is crazy.
- 22:09Speaker 2: It really is. I mean, it's I think even beyond
- 22:13Speaker 2: though anything else.
- 22:15Speaker 1: It's just that the fact that the movie theater is
- 22:20Speaker 1: the environment itself is fine tuned for the experience. No
- 22:25Speaker 1: matter how good I make the room where I view
- 22:28Speaker 1: something at home, the room was not built with the
- 22:33Speaker 1: idea of the right sound baffling in the walls or
- 22:38Speaker 1: on the ceiling.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Like it is. It is a different experience.
- 22:43Speaker 1: I I just I mean, Revenge of the Sith is
- 22:48Speaker 1: a film that, even aside from it being a Star
- 22:51Speaker 1: Wars film, I think is an incredible experience.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Specifically because.
- 22:57Speaker 1: I've said I've said this before, l swear, but I'll
- 23:01Speaker 1: you know, hey, this is the episode to repeat stuff.
- 23:04Speaker 1: I think that the amazing thing about Revenge of the
- 23:08Speaker 1: Sith is I think it caps off the brilliant fact
- 23:14Speaker 1: that every writer writes what they know, and they write
- 23:18Speaker 1: from their heart. And I really think the prequels are
- 23:23Speaker 1: very autobiographical, whether Lucas realized it or not. And I
- 23:29Speaker 1: always see episode three as a guy musing on the
- 23:34Speaker 1: fact that he got trapped by his own success and power,
- 23:41Speaker 1: and it's a very abstract apology to his first wife
- 23:51Speaker 1: for the fact that he recognizes that he got consumed
- 23:57Speaker 1: by his own desire to control every thing, and it
- 24:01Speaker 1: just it feels like such a personal note from Lucas.
- 24:05Speaker 2: And I don't know the man.
- 24:07Speaker 1: I've never met the man, but I swear that a
- 24:11Speaker 1: psychoanalyst could sit down and look at this movie and say,
- 24:14Speaker 1: you have the story of somebody who's discovered and immediately
- 24:18Speaker 1: praised for all of this talent that he has. He
- 24:21Speaker 1: finds great success, and he makes fast friendships, he challenges
- 24:27Speaker 1: the order, he falls in love quickly, and it's a tumultuous,
- 24:33Speaker 1: passionate love and then at the end of it all,
- 24:38Speaker 1: he's trapped forever to be defined by what got him
- 24:44Speaker 1: there in the first place.
- 24:46Speaker 2: And yeah, so I think there.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Is a a an autobiographical thing in there, and then
- 24:53Speaker 1: of course worked in you know, this is consistent with
- 24:55Speaker 1: all of Lucas's and even Spielberg's stuff, which is like
- 24:59Speaker 1: the love of children is what keeps us going, and
- 25:02Speaker 1: it can be adopted children, it can be found family,
- 25:05Speaker 1: it can be you know, it's not just having kids,
- 25:07Speaker 1: it's finding family and the next generation to pass on
- 25:15Speaker 1: the good. There's always hope hanging there. And I think
- 25:19Speaker 1: that's just I mean, Revenge of the Sith is jazz,
- 25:25Speaker 1: and it's jazz poetry. It's it, it is. You know,
- 25:30Speaker 1: I'm a big fan of the beat Nicks. They're writing
- 25:33Speaker 1: at least not necessarily their lives. They could have worked
- 25:37Speaker 1: on that a little bit, but it has that very
- 25:41Speaker 1: loose poetry feeling to it, and it's you know, I mean,
- 25:48Speaker 1: stop me before I keep rambling. I mean, obviously I
- 25:51Speaker 1: adore the film, but like, I think that's what makes
- 25:54Speaker 1: it work. Like I love the fact even that it's
- 25:58Speaker 1: not it's not checking off boxes. Okay, here's well, I'll
- 26:05Speaker 1: maybe I wait into troublesome territory.
- 26:07Speaker 2: I don't know, but.
- 26:11Speaker 1: I think a lot of people, not everybody, but I
- 26:16Speaker 1: think a lot of people wound up loving Rogue One
- 26:18Speaker 1: because it was what they always wanted from the prequels,
- 26:23Speaker 1: which is do the same thing in terms of costume
- 26:26Speaker 1: look and everything like that, just do it with a
- 26:29Speaker 1: bigger budget and make it the world I've already been in.
- 26:33Speaker 1: And the artist himself comes in and says, oh no,
- 26:37Speaker 1: I'm going to break my own rules and I'm going
- 26:39Speaker 1: to make everything look way different, and I'm not going
- 26:42Speaker 1: to tell the story that you expect of me. I'm
- 26:45Speaker 1: going to tell the story that I want to tell,
- 26:48Speaker 1: and it's going to express what I want. And you know,
- 26:53Speaker 1: I think that that might be one of the reasons
- 26:55Speaker 1: why I would love a Revenge of the Sith over
- 26:57Speaker 1: a Rogue One, especially as a prequel, because it's so.
- 27:06Speaker 2: It breaks down its own genre.
- 27:10Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I don't. I wouldn't even compare the
- 27:13Speaker 4: two to me. They're totally different types of films.
- 27:16Speaker 2: You know.
- 27:17Speaker 4: One is you know, literally a.
- 27:22Speaker 1: I'm talking about I'm talking about the design cues, right,
- 27:26Speaker 1: I'm talking about the world creating the world that it is.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Do you see what do you see the distinction I'm
- 27:34Speaker 1: throwing there where It's like what we encounter in Rogue
- 27:38Speaker 1: one is, you know, the the uniforms, the guys on
- 27:45Speaker 1: the Jest Star and the imperials and everything like that.
- 27:48Speaker 2: I just don't think it's the same.
- 27:49Speaker 4: We never even compare the two because again, they're totally
- 27:52Speaker 4: different types of films that they're trying to do, two
- 27:54Speaker 4: totally different types of things.
- 27:56Speaker 1: And I think you're being here, Yes they are, but
- 28:00Speaker 1: but you're getting what I'm saying that like people were
- 28:03Speaker 1: hardwired to.
- 28:07Speaker 2: No, I I basically like.
- 28:10Speaker 4: More point that, yes, people desired when they came to
- 28:14Speaker 4: the prequels, people desired basically just same but different, right,
- 28:19Speaker 4: And George was like, that's not the story I'm telling
- 28:22Speaker 4: because that's not how history works. And my universe is
- 28:28Speaker 4: historical in that sense. You know, what things looked like
- 28:35Speaker 4: thirty years ago doesn't look like what things look like today.
- 28:38Speaker 4: They are similar, but the world looks incredibly different than
- 28:43Speaker 4: it did, you know when we even when we were
- 28:45Speaker 4: growing up, right, right, And so the difference then with
- 28:50Speaker 4: and so yeah, I get all that.
- 28:52Speaker 2: I just.
- 28:54Speaker 4: To me, it's it's not necessarily a completely fair comparison
- 28:58Speaker 4: because the two movies and to what they're doing is
- 29:01Speaker 4: and what they're trying to do is totally different.
- 29:04Speaker 2: And so but I didn't mean, I didn't mean to
- 29:07Speaker 2: touch in ner.
- 29:08Speaker 4: No, No, I'm not I'm not. I'm just to me,
- 29:12Speaker 4: it's kind of more like, it's kind of like more
- 29:15Speaker 4: an apples and oranges type of thing, you know. I
- 29:18Speaker 4: think a better I think a better comparison is honestly
- 29:24Speaker 4: the you know, the sequel trilogy to the original trilogy
- 29:28Speaker 4: or in the prequel trilogy, and how they handle.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Things similar, similar sort of thing. But I'm like just
- 29:33Speaker 1: keeping it within that that prequel sort of vibe, like
- 29:38Speaker 1: and and the fact that Lucas felt so comfortable to
- 29:42Speaker 1: get more and more abstract with his storytelling and do
- 29:45Speaker 1: the time compression and the overlays and all of those
- 29:48Speaker 1: sorts of things where he didn't feel the need to
- 29:52Speaker 1: be as linear as he had been. That it has
- 29:56Speaker 1: those montages that are mixed around, and so you know, oh,
- 30:03Speaker 1: is is an it kind becoming vader at the literal
- 30:06Speaker 1: exact moment that the babies know it's it's abstract. It's
- 30:09Speaker 1: thematically overlaying scenes exactly.
- 30:13Speaker 2: I mean in that point in point.
- 30:15Speaker 4: That's where the I mean it truly is an artistic
- 30:20Speaker 4: operatic interpretation of that right like and and I think
- 30:25Speaker 4: that's the the beauty of it is is George transcending
- 30:32Speaker 4: then the kind of historical nature of the films that
- 30:37Speaker 4: he had placed them in, you know, in the sense
- 30:39Speaker 4: that like they are a history, like if you are
- 30:41Speaker 4: watching a documentary type of thing about this, uh, this
- 30:45Speaker 4: this universe, and it's at that point where it's like
- 30:49Speaker 4: it it it moves from the the linear you know, uh,
- 30:57Speaker 4: documentary style to the artistic style right of storytelling, as
- 31:02Speaker 4: if somebody in the storytelling of the Star Wars story
- 31:06Speaker 4: just all of a sudden, you know, kind of and
- 31:10Speaker 4: in fact, in many ways, I think Lucas I think
- 31:15Speaker 4: seems to take inspiration almost from the way in which,
- 31:19Speaker 4: like if you look at the first two chapters of
- 31:21Speaker 4: Genesis and the where they're constructed or whatever, there's, uh,
- 31:27Speaker 4: there's the linear storytelling of it, and then there's a
- 31:29Speaker 4: more operatic type of storytelling to it as you zoom
- 31:33Speaker 4: in on the story of like the creation of humanity.
- 31:36Speaker 4: And so that's almost the sense you get right with
- 31:39Speaker 4: with Lucas is kind of zooming in to the the
- 31:44Speaker 4: emotional climax of this entire endeavor. And so that's that's
- 31:49Speaker 4: really I think, like you said that that's the absolute
- 31:53Speaker 4: genius that that Lucas is. And you know the fact
- 31:56Speaker 4: that he was willing to do that for the end
- 32:01Speaker 4: of the series as we knew it at that point,
- 32:04Speaker 4: really just shows that, you know, he is an autaur filmmaker,
- 32:12Speaker 4: you know, in that sense, like he's not playing even
- 32:14Speaker 4: by his necessarily own rules, right and is willing to
- 32:20Speaker 4: just kind of bend or break whatever rules they're necessary
- 32:24Speaker 4: to tell the story as he wants to tell it.
- 32:27Speaker 4: And I find that pretty interesting, and it's it's one
- 32:31Speaker 4: of those things again to see that then play out
- 32:36Speaker 4: on the big screen again. And I think too, the
- 32:43Speaker 4: thing that really jumped out to me is for the
- 32:45Speaker 4: most part, how well the effects still hold up twenty
- 32:50Speaker 4: years later overall, especially the Mustafar battle, which you know,
- 32:54Speaker 4: with all the model work they did and all the
- 32:56Speaker 4: shooting they did for the volcano that was going off
- 33:01Speaker 4: in Italy, so they got real shots of real volcanoes
- 33:04Speaker 4: and all that, and then all of that work is
- 33:07Speaker 4: just you know, it is really good looking.
- 33:11Speaker 1: Seeing it well, I mean that in and of itself,
- 33:14Speaker 1: the Moustafar stuff sitting there, I'm always in awe, especially
- 33:20Speaker 1: of like when they're when the lightsaber fight starts and
- 33:23Speaker 1: they're going through the hallway and there's the you know,
- 33:25Speaker 1: they're hitting the walls and the sparks and the lights
- 33:27Speaker 1: are flying, and I'm sitting there and that intellectual part
- 33:32Speaker 1: of my brain that knows the story is looking at
- 33:34Speaker 1: it and saying, there was nothing there except tape marks
- 33:38Speaker 1: on the floor. These like, I don't know that anybody
- 33:45Speaker 1: truly appreciates how hard and how far they push the
- 33:51Speaker 1: envelope with this. It reinvented what was possible with film,
- 33:56Speaker 1: and you know, yeah, the whole prequel trilogy does, but
- 34:00Speaker 1: this one is specific in terms of the you know,
- 34:03Speaker 1: like you're saying, the blending the live footage with the
- 34:06Speaker 1: model work with the CG stuff and getting the lighting
- 34:10Speaker 1: to work alone, what a nightmare?
- 34:14Speaker 2: Well, and what a nightmare?
- 34:15Speaker 4: And I think that's the other thing too, You know,
- 34:21Speaker 4: this is one of those places where they just pulled
- 34:24Speaker 4: out all the stops, even just on the lightsaber battle,
- 34:27Speaker 4: you know, and those guys putting in I mean literal
- 34:32Speaker 4: hours and hours and days of their life to get
- 34:36Speaker 4: this down so that they could they didn't have to
- 34:40Speaker 4: be sped up. They're doing it that fast. And the
- 34:45Speaker 4: beauty of it too, is just that it's this ballet
- 34:50Speaker 4: between these people, these men who know each other backwards
- 34:54Speaker 4: and forwards, and yet now they're tasked with trying to
- 34:59Speaker 4: kill each other, and it's it's fantastic and it's one
- 35:04Speaker 4: of those things too, where you know, nothing else except
- 35:09Speaker 4: for the animated Star Wars, has really ever been able
- 35:12Speaker 4: to capture the beauty of Lightsaber battles in the same way.
- 35:17Speaker 2: I mean, you have this this re release.
- 35:22Speaker 1: My youngest was able to see it for the first time,
- 35:25Speaker 1: and I remember at the end of it, you know,
- 35:28Speaker 1: she applauds. I was like, oh, yes, awesome, it's happening.
- 35:35Speaker 1: And we're talking afterward and I said, I was like
- 35:38Speaker 1: that space battle at the beginning, I was pretty great,
- 35:41Speaker 1: wasn't it. And she crinkles up her nose. She goes, yeah,
- 35:44Speaker 1: it was neat, But I like the lightsaber stuff more.
- 35:47Speaker 1: That's that's what I want to watch. And I was like, okay, cool.
- 35:52Speaker 1: I'm like, that's that's a mark where the kids like, yeah,
- 35:56Speaker 1: that mind blowing space battle is all right, But you know, honestly,
- 35:59Speaker 1: the lights is really why I was there. I was like, yeah,
- 36:02Speaker 1: that's kind of true, and it's that's that's the thing.
- 36:06Speaker 1: It's like, when when it comes down to it, I know,
- 36:09Speaker 1: I know, I know, people might roll their eyes here,
- 36:12Speaker 1: but people with laser swords having a fight. You'll never
- 36:17Speaker 1: get anything cooler than that ever, ever, And this lightsaber fight, like,
- 36:22Speaker 1: I don't know that you could ever top it.
- 36:24Speaker 2: I don't know if it's possible.
- 36:25Speaker 4: I mean, you know, And that's the again, when I
- 36:28Speaker 4: think of other lightsaber battles that stand out, you know,
- 36:31Speaker 4: other than episode one, you know, it's the ones from
- 36:34Speaker 4: the Clone Wars, right, yes, between of you know, mall
- 36:40Speaker 4: in in Ahsoka or Obi one and mall and uh
- 36:48Speaker 4: what's the Savagial Press you know or uh Savagal Press,
- 36:53Speaker 4: mall and Sidious. I mean, like just the amount of
- 36:57Speaker 4: lightsaber battles that took place that were so incredibly amazing
- 37:02Speaker 4: in the the Clone War series. You know, only those
- 37:08Speaker 4: battles kind of live up to what we got in
- 37:13Speaker 4: something like episode three. And a big part of that
- 37:16Speaker 4: is because you know, they're mirroring and mimicking and using
- 37:20Speaker 4: that same format and style.
- 37:23Speaker 2: Uh.
- 37:23Speaker 4: And you know, of course with the mall Ah Sosoca battle,
- 37:26Speaker 4: they they literally mocapped uh right, you know, and so
- 37:35Speaker 4: and another person doing that battle so that they could
- 37:37Speaker 4: get it as close as possible. So again this is
- 37:40Speaker 4: just you know, Episode three is just incredibly special, and
- 37:46Speaker 4: I think in beautiful film for what it does and
- 37:51Speaker 4: in the way that it brings the prequel trilogy to
- 37:54Speaker 4: a close. And you know, and I think what's great
- 38:02Speaker 4: about that is the way in which you know, the
- 38:07Speaker 4: prequel trilogy was so rich that then it could inspire
- 38:13Speaker 4: other things like the Clone Wars and the Bad Batch
- 38:17Speaker 4: and you know, rebels and you know, uh and or
- 38:22Speaker 4: and all of these things, because because it all stems
- 38:26Speaker 4: from the work that was started and done in this
- 38:31Speaker 4: really great addition to the Star Wars universe. And in
- 38:35Speaker 4: an addition, I would argue, in addition to the Star
- 38:38Speaker 4: Wars universe that is richer, deeper, and more fulfilling than
- 38:44Speaker 4: the original trilogy was, just because of how deep and
- 38:50Speaker 4: resonant and fascinating all of the the matic elements are
- 38:58Speaker 4: in a way that you know, it's it's not as simplistic,
- 39:01Speaker 4: it's it's one of the reasons why you know, the
- 39:04Speaker 4: film here opens there are heroes on both sides.
- 39:07Speaker 3: You know.
- 39:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I I've been saying for years and people always
- 39:13Speaker 1: thought it was a bit where I was like, you know,
- 39:15Speaker 1: if you if you stranded me on a Desert Island,
- 39:17Speaker 1: and I can only have one of the Star Wars trilogies.
- 39:19Speaker 1: I'm picking the prequels one hundred percent of the time.
- 39:23Speaker 1: But I think additionally, in terms of spurring.
- 39:25Speaker 4: Those story squel trilogy, I'm sorry what.
- 39:28Speaker 1: No, I didn't I didn't say that, but the you
- 39:33Speaker 1: know it is that that more abstract, jazzy way of
- 39:38Speaker 1: telling the story, hitting the high notes and then like
- 39:42Speaker 1: because that's the whole thing about jazz.
- 39:44Speaker 2: It's like it's about the notes. They're not playing too.
- 39:47Speaker 1: And I think that there's much more mental participation with
- 39:52Speaker 1: Revenge of the Sith, with the other prequel movies as well.
- 39:58Speaker 2: That goes into that. I think that there's it's just it.
- 40:04Speaker 2: It invites you to be with.
- 40:09Speaker 1: It, and it is a very rich story. It tells
- 40:12Speaker 1: a huge story, like an absolute epic, and it's so
- 40:17Speaker 1: ruthlessly efficient that Lucas still won't let himself make a
- 40:22Speaker 1: four hour movie. His challenge, you know this one is
- 40:27Speaker 1: two hours and twenty but he still won't let himself indulge.
- 40:32Speaker 1: He could have made a four hour Star Wars movie
- 40:34Speaker 1: and we would have all gone to go see it. Yeah,
- 40:36Speaker 1: I think he could have gone crazy.
- 40:37Speaker 4: That's the interesting thing about this one too, is that
- 40:42Speaker 4: as if there's anything that could make this movie better
- 40:46Speaker 4: is that it could be longer, because there are there's
- 40:50Speaker 4: some great, great stuff that gets cut, it's on the
- 40:53Speaker 4: cutting room floor that we've seen, you know, in deleted
- 40:55Speaker 4: scenes or whatever, that is so incredibly rich and wonderful,
- 40:59Speaker 4: and uh, just as a Star Wars fan, it kind
- 41:05Speaker 4: of like gets your little heart palpitating, you know, because
- 41:08Speaker 4: it's just so wonderful. Palating, yeah, palpatining, yes. And that's
- 41:16Speaker 4: the only that that's the interesting thing about this This
- 41:18Speaker 4: is so good. It is truly one of those things
- 41:21Speaker 4: which could only be made better if it was longer,
- 41:25Speaker 4: and mainly because of the things we know that we're
- 41:28Speaker 4: cut that were really kind of pivotal in some ways
- 41:33Speaker 4: just just to the overall general Star Wars story and everything.
- 41:36Speaker 4: And it almost makes me wonder if there isn't a
- 41:40Speaker 4: you know, if Lucas didn't still own lucasfilm, if there
- 41:45Speaker 4: wouldn't be you know, a special edition for the twentieth
- 41:48Speaker 4: anniversary or something where you know, he reinserts some of
- 41:52Speaker 4: that stuff. But I know, I don't ibably not.
- 41:55Speaker 1: No, I don't think he ever would, and I don't
- 41:58Speaker 1: think he ever would for one very specif reason.
- 42:01Speaker 2: Revenge of the Sith I.
- 42:02Speaker 1: Believe is the only one of his six that never
- 42:07Speaker 1: had anything done to it between release versions.
- 42:10Speaker 4: Ah, did they don't? Did they medal it all with Yoda?
- 42:16Speaker 2: I don't believe they did. I don't know.
- 42:18Speaker 4: That's the only thing. I think they might have possibly
- 42:21Speaker 4: just tweaked them model or something.
- 42:22Speaker 1: I know that's true, So.
- 42:26Speaker 2: I don't believe they did.
- 42:29Speaker 1: But even Attack of the Clones has a little bit
- 42:32Speaker 1: of tweaking happening on it, like with the four K
- 42:35Speaker 1: and stuff or in the Blu Ray all the way
- 42:37Speaker 1: back to the Blu Ray. But like he never fiddled with
- 42:40Speaker 1: Revenge of the Sith. Yeah, and he fiddled with all
- 42:43Speaker 1: other five. And whether you love it or hate it,
- 42:47Speaker 1: I think that that speaks to the fact that like,
- 42:49Speaker 1: this is the one that that he always considered.
- 42:52Speaker 4: Right good well, and and that's the thing felt it's
- 42:57Speaker 4: perfect as it is, right h So it doesn't need anymore,
- 43:03Speaker 4: I think, just you know, as a fan, I'm sure
- 43:06Speaker 4: one hundred percent, except you know, a longer film, because
- 43:10Speaker 4: I think it would be so great.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Uh and well, the only the only thing they the
- 43:14Speaker 1: only thing they could possibly do to make this experience
- 43:17Speaker 1: even richer would be to recut The Phantom Apprentice and
- 43:21Speaker 1: release that to movie theaters now for the twentieth anniversary.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Like honestly, that yeah, I'm dead serious. That would have
- 43:29Speaker 1: been the ballsy move for Jesse.
- 43:30Speaker 2: You know, it would be.
- 43:32Speaker 1: To come in and say, we're going to release Revenge
- 43:34Speaker 1: of the Sith. And by the way, it's going to
- 43:36Speaker 1: be a double feature. Think about just a weekend long
- 43:40Speaker 1: double feature. Release it on a ton of screens. You
- 43:44Speaker 1: can see Revenge of the Sith. You can see the
- 43:46Speaker 1: Phantom Apprentice individually, but then you have one experience where it's,
- 43:51Speaker 1: you know, a couple of special nights. Here watch them both.
- 43:57Speaker 1: I would eat that up. That would be a easing
- 44:01Speaker 1: to me. To put them both side by side and
- 44:04Speaker 1: have them go like that would have been. That would
- 44:08Speaker 1: have been what I probably should have done. That is,
- 44:10Speaker 1: I probably should have just come straight home and watched
- 44:12Speaker 1: The Phantom Apprentice, just gone right into it, because that
- 44:15Speaker 1: would have been incredibly satisfying.
- 44:18Speaker 2: I agree to do that.
- 44:20Speaker 1: Yeah, but you know what else is in I No, no,
- 44:23Speaker 1: I was gonna say, honestly, I'm so excited, you know,
- 44:27Speaker 1: for the next anniversary with you know, a new Hope,
- 44:32Speaker 1: the next anniversary with Attack of the Clones, you know,
- 44:35Speaker 1: And so I'm they better freaking release Attack of the
- 44:39Speaker 1: Clones back in my theater.
- 44:40Speaker 4: I can't imagine that they wouldn't, you know, And especially too,
- 44:43Speaker 4: because I need the completion of Matt Ferguson's artwork that
- 44:47Speaker 4: he's been doing, because I have all of it so
- 44:50Speaker 4: far and I need it completed for the original six
- 44:54Speaker 4: and so.
- 44:55Speaker 1: Yes, just Attack and the Original Star Wars the only two.
- 45:00Speaker 4: The Original Star Wars will be out for the fiftieth anniversary.
- 45:02Speaker 4: I have no doubt they'll ask him to do that.
- 45:05Speaker 4: And yeah, I've got to have Attack of the Clones
- 45:08Speaker 4: because my office at work needs Attack of the Clones
- 45:12Speaker 4: to complete the set.
- 45:14Speaker 1: It would never happen, but you know what the absolute
- 45:18Speaker 1: baller move would be to release the nineteen seventy seven
- 45:24Speaker 1: version for the fiftieth anniversary release the version that doesn't
- 45:29Speaker 1: even have a New Hope in the title crawl and
- 45:32Speaker 1: not tell anybody you're doing that, and have him come
- 45:34Speaker 1: in and just have him go wait what and just
- 45:37Speaker 1: I'd even love it if it had like you know,
- 45:39Speaker 1: Hayden Christensen has his intro before Revenge of the Sith
- 45:43Speaker 1: when it comes back to the theaters and have George
- 45:46Speaker 1: Lucas walk on out, and it's be like, so I
- 45:48Speaker 1: want you to see why I was so unhappy with
- 45:50Speaker 1: this back in nineteen seventy seven, you chumps, and you
- 45:53Speaker 1: can live with the things that I thought didn't work.
- 45:56Speaker 1: Oh and by the way, there was no episode four
- 45:58Speaker 1: back then, So go screw. You paid your money and
- 46:01Speaker 1: like walk it now. Maybe he wouldn't say go screw
- 46:03Speaker 1: at the end. That's maybe me writing for him. If
- 46:06Speaker 1: I were George Lucas, that's that's what I would say,
- 46:10Speaker 1: you know, and do it as a mono track. See,
- 46:12Speaker 1: that's the thing is, I would take it to eleven
- 46:16Speaker 1: in terms of the bit. That would at least a
- 46:17Speaker 1: nineteen seventy seven version on a film print with the
- 46:20Speaker 1: mono track, and just like you love it, don't you?
- 46:24Speaker 2: Don't you love the mono track? This is original, This
- 46:27Speaker 2: is the one everybody experienced. Yeah, anyway, yeah, there you go.
- 46:32Speaker 1: Not even any extra three po lines about deactivating the
- 46:35Speaker 1: tractor being oh no, where's that?
- 46:38Speaker 2: Yeah? Sorry, I just well, man, I get the stuff.
- 46:43Speaker 4: Well we could go on forever. But you know, it
- 46:46Speaker 4: was so great to have this back of the theaters.
- 46:48Speaker 4: It was so fun to actually be able to you know,
- 46:51Speaker 4: for I know, for both of us to be able
- 46:52Speaker 4: to celebrate it again, especially since you know, you got
- 46:57Speaker 4: to take your youngest to see it with you, which
- 46:59Speaker 4: what it is an incredibly cool.
- 47:01Speaker 3: Thing to do.
- 47:01Speaker 4: And you know, getting to go see it with Yancy
- 47:03Speaker 4: and his neph getting to go see it with n
- 47:07Speaker 4: yet getting to go see it with Yancy and his
- 47:12Speaker 4: grandson was super fun. But John, if people wanted to
- 47:16Speaker 4: share the love of episode three with you and just
- 47:20Speaker 4: reminisce about how great it was to see it in
- 47:22Speaker 4: the theater, where could they.
- 47:24Speaker 1: Find you, Well, gosh, you can find me as Castle Junkie.
- 47:27Speaker 1: I'm sort of back on social media now. I don't know,
- 47:31Speaker 1: but I don't spend nearly enough time online. Maybe question
- 47:35Speaker 1: Mark or maybe I'm happier because I don't spend as
- 47:37Speaker 1: much time online, who knows. But you can also find
- 47:40Speaker 1: me here on the network, co hosting a show called
- 47:42Speaker 1: house Lights with Tristan Merdell and Darren Moser where we
- 47:45Speaker 1: look at the work of different directors that and drum
- 47:50Speaker 1: Roll as we're recording this. We are very close to
- 47:55Speaker 1: doing a review of all of the directorial works of
- 48:00Speaker 1: George Lucas, So I invite everybody over there to listen
- 48:05Speaker 1: to us.
- 48:05Speaker 4: Do that. Are you going to cover? You know, Star
- 48:08Speaker 4: Wars episode six.
- 48:12Speaker 2: We're going to do.
- 48:15Speaker 1: We're gonna, hey, listen, man, Mark Kwand was on set
- 48:20Speaker 1: and directed everything. That's all I gotta say. He might
- 48:22Speaker 1: not have assembled squat after the rough cut, but you know, yeah,
- 48:28Speaker 1: we're gonna all of Lucas's directorial things, and I promise
- 48:32Speaker 1: you it will get spirited as I as I come
- 48:36Speaker 1: out swinging for the Prequels and Revenge of the Sith,
- 48:39Speaker 1: especially coming into that. But Matt, that's where they can
- 48:44Speaker 1: find me. Where can people find you?
- 48:45Speaker 4: Well, you can find me here on aggressive negotiations. As
- 48:49Speaker 4: you know, this is episode three ninety eight, which means
- 48:53Speaker 4: we only have one more episode before we'll hit our
- 48:57Speaker 4: four hundredth episode. We got a very special surprise coming
- 49:01Speaker 4: up for you, and then, gosh, John, we've got new
- 49:04Speaker 4: Star Wars that's going to be coming out with and Or,
- 49:07Speaker 4: which has already started. We're gonna also be able to
- 49:09Speaker 4: talk about Tales of the Underworld, So we are just
- 49:14Speaker 4: I mean, we are firing on you all hyperspace rings.
- 49:19Speaker 4: But you can find me on ex Twitter over at
- 49:24Speaker 4: Matt Rushing zero two, and that's where I'm also any
- 49:28Speaker 4: social media platform just look for Matt Rushing zero two.
- 49:30Speaker 4: If I'm there, you'll find me. You can also find
- 49:32Speaker 4: me here on the network outside aggress to the negotiations outposts,
- 49:36Speaker 4: talking about every single chapter of the Harry Potter series,
- 49:39Speaker 4: one chapter of Time over on the TFM network, doing
- 49:41Speaker 4: a lot of different shows, a lot of Star Trek talk,
- 49:43Speaker 4: plus the six oh two Club, where we love talking
- 49:45Speaker 4: about all of those franchises outside of Star Treks, So
- 49:49Speaker 4: a lot of Star Wars talk over there with John
- 49:52Speaker 4: as well as a lot of other great franchises. But John,
- 49:55Speaker 4: you know what I'm really in the move for a
- 49:58Speaker 4: Mustafarian hot dog seriously cooks in seconds, delightful, and so
- 50:04Speaker 4: I think it's time to close these negotiations.
- 50:08Speaker 1: Mustafarian hot Dog sounds like maybe a nickname the Emperor
- 50:12Speaker 1: had for Vader when he was mad on him. Master
- 50:14Speaker 1: Russian negotiations are closed.
- 50:31Speaker 4: Join the Revolution, Join the Nerd Party.
