- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Dutch with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and today we're going to explore another part of the body. Luna: Hi Lucas! I'm ready. Last time we did the face parts, right? We learned voorhoofd, wang, and kin. Lucas: Exactly, and now we're going to focus on something that's very close to the face... literally. Today's word is 'de lip'. Luna: De lip. That sounds like 'lip' in English, but with a Dutch accent. Easy peasy. Lucas: It sure is close. 'De lip' means 'the lip'. Let's practice saying it slowly: de lip. Luna: De lip. I like that. It's short and snappy. Lucas: Now, let's use it in a sentence. If you have a sore lip, you say 'Mijn lip doet pijn.' That means 'My lip hurts.' Repeat after me: Mijn lip doet pijn. Luna: Mijn lip doet pijn. Mijn lip doet pijn. That's a good one. I can imagine saying that after eating too many spicy chips. Lucas: Or after a cold wind. Let's try another: 'Ik heb een droge lip.' That means 'I have a dry lip.' Can you guess what 'droge' means? Luna: Hmm, 'droge'... maybe 'dry'? Because 'droog' sounds like 'dry'? Lucas: You got it. 'Droog' means 'dry', and 'een droge lip' is 'a dry lip'. Say it with me: Ik heb een droge lip. Luna: Ik heb een droge lip. That's useful in winter. My lips get so dry. Lucas: And if it gets really bad, you might have a crack, a 'kloofje'. So you say 'Ik heb een kloofje in mijn lip.' That means 'I have a little crack in my lip.' Luna: Ik heb een kloofje in mijn lip. That's a mouthful. Let me try: Ik heb een kloofje in mijn lip. Lucas: Perfect. And remember, 'kloofje' is a little crack, from 'kloof' meaning 'cleft' or 'crack'. Now let's practice all the phrases we have today. Luna: Good idea. So we have 'de lip', 'Mijn lip doet pijn.', 'Ik heb een droge lip.', and 'Ik heb een kloofje in mijn lip.' Lucas: Exactly. Let's say them together slowly: de lip. Mijn lip doet pijn. Ik heb een droge lip. Ik heb een kloofje in mijn lip. Luna: de lip. Mijn lip doet pijn. Ik heb een droge lip. Ik heb een kloofje in mijn lip. Lucas: Now, if someone asks you 'Wat is er aan de hand?' meaning 'What's going on?', you can answer with one of these. Let's do a quick role-play. Luna, you have a dry lip. What do you say? Luna: Ik heb een droge lip. Lucas: Good. And if your lip hurts? Luna: Mijn lip doet pijn. Lucas: And if you have a crack?
