- 0:15Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:19Speaker 3: I just had some some car issues coming in this morning.
- 0:22Speaker 2: So car issues.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Hope she blew out a tire.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Oh, she's probably running on those baloney tires. I'm on
- 0:28Speaker 2: record now, I think, what did I say by game six?
- 0:31Speaker 2: He'll be in.
- 0:32Speaker 4: First there was a couple, Then it was a few.
- 0:34Speaker 4: Then it was a handful, and then it was a
- 0:35Speaker 4: half dozen.
- 0:36Speaker 3: Then there was several.
- 0:37Speaker 2: A handful could be up to five, several, three, There
- 0:40Speaker 2: was a.
- 0:41Speaker 5: Dozen, then it was a Baker's dozen five.
- 0:43Speaker 3: I felt bad about my path.
- 0:45Speaker 2: So because I forget who, I started.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Taking calls like in the middle of the good list,
- 0:50Speaker 3: you know, and emails shot how do we get mad?
- 0:55Speaker 3: And then he would kind of yell back at you
- 0:57Speaker 3: back that was great, right, right, And then he'd be
- 0:59Speaker 3: like kind of angry. He and Matt will go.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Okay, shoot, I just lost my hold on Hope. Please Cincinnati,
- 1:10Speaker 2: we have to do it in lane. There you go.
- 1:13Speaker 2: So let it be written.
- 1:14Speaker 6: This is Patriots Unfiltered presented by Toyota's official website for deals,
- 1:19Speaker 6: buy a Toyota dot com.
- 1:25Speaker 2: It is Tuesday here at Julett Stadium, and we're mourning
- 1:29Speaker 2: the loss one in one now after one they let
- 1:33Speaker 2: one get away. That was that was too bad. They
- 1:35Speaker 2: let one get away against the Seahawks. But we have
- 1:39Speaker 2: a chance for redemption early Thursday night in New Jersey
- 1:44Speaker 2: against the Jets. Can get get back to above five hundred.
- 1:49Speaker 2: So it's Evan, it's Paul, it's me, it's Deuce, it's
- 1:53Speaker 2: Matt Nabooth and we'll be here for the next two
- 1:55Speaker 2: hours talking Patriots and everything else. It was a wild
- 1:58Speaker 2: and wacky week in the NFL. Lots of upsets right
- 2:02Speaker 2: up to.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Last night, and I didn't pick any of them.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Yeah no, yeah, we'll get to that tomorrow because you've
- 2:08Speaker 2: been off your game. Yeah, we'll have to do picks
- 2:11Speaker 2: early this week because of the Patriots traveling on Thursday,
- 2:15Speaker 2: and we won't have a show on Thursday, but we
- 2:18Speaker 2: will have the pregame show. But guys, any opening thoughts
- 2:22Speaker 2: on the game. I know we had the postgame show,
- 2:25Speaker 2: but you know, Evan wasn't there.
- 2:27Speaker 3: That's why us off on Tuesdays.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Any opening thoughts now that we've listened to Gerard a
- 2:33Speaker 2: couple times after the game and players and what are
- 2:35Speaker 2: we thinking?
- 2:36Speaker 7: Well, I watched the film. That's also very important, right,
- 2:39Speaker 7: you got to come in watch the film, see whats happened.
- 2:43Speaker 7: I would start with the defensive side of the ball.
- 2:46Speaker 7: As much as we all want to harp on the
- 2:48Speaker 7: passing game and the offense, let's face it, we didn't
- 2:50Speaker 7: really expect them to be a great passing team to
- 2:54Speaker 7: begin with. I would also point out that league wide
- 2:57Speaker 7: passing is down. So when you have a team way yeah,
- 3:01Speaker 7: when you have a team like the Patriots.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Did you touchdown passes?
- 3:05Speaker 2: Yeah? Way down?
- 3:06Speaker 7: Passing yards right around one hundred and ninety a game
- 3:09Speaker 7: right now for teams. I mean last night her cousins
- 3:13Speaker 7: added some numbers at the end there, but I looked
- 3:16Speaker 7: up in both quarterbacks had thrown for like one hundred
- 3:17Speaker 7: and seventy yards in the game, like late into the
- 3:19Speaker 7: fourth quarter. Anyways, when you have a team that doesn't
- 3:23Speaker 7: pass the ball well like the Patriots, in a league
- 3:25Speaker 7: that's trending downward with passing yards, it's not that much
- 3:29Speaker 7: of a surprise to me. The bigger issue was defensively,
- 3:34Speaker 7: they got a little too cute, I thought in some
- 3:36Speaker 7: big spots that really cost them. And I'm still trying
- 3:41Speaker 7: to figure out what their identity is on defense under
- 3:45Speaker 7: this new regime, because it's not the same exact defense
- 3:49Speaker 7: they were running with Bill, and I don't know what there.
- 3:54Speaker 7: What's their third and got to have it coverage? You know,
- 3:57Speaker 7: what's their bread and butter. Right now on the defensive
- 4:00Speaker 7: side of the ball. It's a bit of a mystery.
- 4:03Speaker 7: I mean, you go, I know, Dougger said he checked
- 4:05Speaker 7: into it, but you go zero blitz on second and
- 4:08Speaker 7: five from the fifty and you give up a fifty
- 4:10Speaker 7: six yard touchdown a DK metcalf on a coverage bus
- 4:13Speaker 7: and those types of things a little too cute in
- 4:17Speaker 7: some of those big spots. But in general, I think
- 4:19Speaker 7: the biggest thing with the defense right now is what
- 4:22Speaker 7: you know, when the Patriots with Bill, it would be man, right,
- 4:25Speaker 7: they played some sort of man coverage on third and
- 4:28Speaker 7: eight in the game or something like that, and they
- 4:31Speaker 7: would do their thing. Now, I'm not really sure. They've
- 4:33Speaker 7: been playing a lot of zone. They've been mixing it up,
- 4:36Speaker 7: so we'll see.
- 4:37Speaker 5: Some of the numbers. I like, I couldn't watch the film, Paul. Unfortunately,
- 4:40Speaker 5: the next Gen site was down for me. So I'm
- 4:42Speaker 5: flying a bit blind here. I'm just gonna have to
- 4:44Speaker 5: rely on what.
- 4:45Speaker 3: I fill in the blank. I saw the game on Sunday.
- 4:47Speaker 3: I was there.
- 4:47Speaker 4: I see, I'm not.
- 4:48Speaker 5: I don't have your power of retention, like I watched
- 4:50Speaker 5: it once. It goes by in a flash. But I
- 4:52Speaker 5: will say I looked. I did dig into some of
- 4:54Speaker 5: the numbers though, and some of the thing that was
- 4:56Speaker 5: interesting to me was and like you said, it always
- 5:00Speaker 5: out like zone first, second down, man third, more zone
- 5:04Speaker 5: coverage and third down. Now it seems like that's the
- 5:06Speaker 5: that to me was the most significant rise that And
- 5:09Speaker 5: I don't know if this is related to more playing
- 5:11Speaker 5: more Cover two or if that has to do with
- 5:13Speaker 5: staying back, but just more zone, third down.
- 5:16Speaker 7: Yeah, I would say the two biggest things that they're
- 5:18Speaker 7: playing cover two at a much much higher rate.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Well, well, let me ask you question, what did they
- 5:24Speaker 2: do against the Bengals same thing, even more cover? So
- 5:28Speaker 2: is it just the fact that maybe hey it worked
- 5:31Speaker 2: week one, let's try it in week two. But oh
- 5:33Speaker 2: wait a minute, week two, there are a lot better receivers.
- 5:36Speaker 7: You know, it's definitely possible, and these are all small
- 5:39Speaker 7: sample size alerts. Right like there were two weeks into
- 5:41Speaker 7: the season. I'd say it probably takes four or five
- 5:44Speaker 7: weeks for some of these stats to really solidify themselves.
- 5:47Speaker 7: But they've played a ton of Cover two and they've
- 5:50Speaker 7: played a ton of zone and I just that's okay,
- 5:53Speaker 7: like if you want to be that way, but zone
- 5:56Speaker 7: teams and the Patriots being one of them in the
- 5:59Speaker 7: first couple of weeks, they do a lot of disguising
- 6:01Speaker 7: and a lot of rotations post snap. I thought, this
- 6:05Speaker 7: week one and we come in here giving them all
- 6:07Speaker 7: their flowers for how well it worked against Burrow. In
- 6:10Speaker 7: week two, it felt like Gino Smith and Ryan Grubb,
- 6:13Speaker 7: the offensive coordinator in Seattle, were a one step ahead
- 6:16Speaker 7: of a lot of those things, like you have Keon
- 6:18Speaker 7: White going dropping twenty yards down the field into coverage
- 6:21Speaker 7: on Jackson Smith and Jigba that that's not a match
- 6:24Speaker 7: up the Patriots want. So there was a little bit
- 6:26Speaker 7: too much of that this week.
- 6:27Speaker 3: I felt like, Okay, can I ask this in terms
- 6:30Speaker 3: of you mentioned that Seattle, Gino Smith and Grub might
- 6:35Speaker 3: have been a little bit ahead of them. Yeah, do
- 6:37Speaker 3: you think that their willingness to spend so much time
- 6:40Speaker 3: without huddling affected maybe some of the creativity that Covington
- 6:45Speaker 3: could dial up.
- 6:46Speaker 7: It's possible, and I hadn't really considered that very much.
- 6:49Speaker 3: What I what I saw again, if you go to
- 6:51Speaker 3: the game, yatch it right.
- 6:56Speaker 7: What I saw a lot of was was motioning, like
- 7:00Speaker 7: pre snap shifting to get coverage indicators, so they would
- 7:03Speaker 7: like bring JSN from left to right, and then for
- 7:06Speaker 7: whatever reason, the Patriots would tip their hand a little
- 7:10Speaker 7: bit pre snap. And Gino's a veteran quarterback that's been
- 7:13Speaker 7: around the block, He's seen a lot. He got them
- 7:15Speaker 7: into some plays that really busted the coverages for the Patriots.
- 7:19Speaker 7: But I would say the main thing to me, it
- 7:22Speaker 7: was that all those disguises and all the different rotations
- 7:25Speaker 7: that they were doing in Week one that we sung
- 7:27Speaker 7: their praises for this week, it led to some breakdowns
- 7:31Speaker 7: in the back end.
- 7:32Speaker 3: So that's what I was And I always say, like,
- 7:34Speaker 3: I've never coached, you know, any level of football, really,
- 7:38Speaker 3: so let alone what they're doing. Just from afar, it
- 7:42Speaker 3: looked like they were figuring out ways to just say
- 7:45Speaker 3: do what Evan just said, like making them declar what
- 7:48Speaker 3: their coverage was, and I think it wasn't necessarily like
- 7:51Speaker 3: to keep the personnel on the field because they subbed
- 7:53Speaker 3: a lot seattle even though they were going no, they
- 7:56Speaker 3: weren't doing hurry up. They were doing no huddle, right,
- 7:59Speaker 3: And I think the idea was and I didn't hear
- 8:03Speaker 3: a lot out of their locker room, so I don't
- 8:04Speaker 3: know if they talked about this post game, but we're
- 8:07Speaker 3: gonna get to the line, we're gonna line up, and
- 8:09Speaker 3: we're gonna make them tell us if they're in zone
- 8:11Speaker 3: or man, and then once we figure it out, then
- 8:14Speaker 3: we're gonna go. But it wasn't They didn't do a
- 8:16Speaker 3: tremendous amount of like pedal to the metal hurry up,
- 8:19Speaker 3: no offense. They were. At one point Evan even said,
- 8:21Speaker 3: he goes, wow, it's like a college game, like they're
- 8:23Speaker 3: all looking to the sideline getting the call from the line.
- 8:26Speaker 3: But I think there was an advantage to being out
- 8:29Speaker 3: of the huddle in a ligne, you know, aligned that way,
- 8:32Speaker 3: if the other team's not.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Ready, it puts pressure on the defense. I mean, the
- 8:36Speaker 2: defense by rule has a chance to answer any sub
- 8:39Speaker 2: So if the defense subs, then the defense has to
- 8:41Speaker 2: be given a chance to sub But like you said,
- 8:45Speaker 2: even though it's not hurry Up, No Huddle, puts pressure
- 8:49Speaker 2: on the defense to make those decisions. You know.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Well, I just think it allowed Gino Smith to know
- 8:54Speaker 3: what the coverages were. And to Mike and Evans point,
- 8:57Speaker 3: I think the Patriots have really made their living being
- 9:01Speaker 3: able to be multiple and varying their their looks, and
- 9:04Speaker 3: I think that Gino was able to know on most
- 9:06Speaker 3: plays what they were in.
- 9:07Speaker 5: I think on both sides of the ball, you saw
- 9:08Speaker 5: examples of the opposing the opposing team turning the screws
- 9:13Speaker 5: a little bit on new coordinators and you know, making
- 9:15Speaker 5: it hard for DeMarcus Covington, you know, allowing them to
- 9:18Speaker 5: get to the line, DeMarcus isn't able to kind of
- 9:20Speaker 5: see the personnel, you know, take his time figure out
- 9:23Speaker 5: what they want to roll. I just think that's where
- 9:26Speaker 5: they won those moments on the coach And I just.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Want to say real quick, I want to take the
- 9:30Speaker 3: l on this one because I was pretty critical of
- 9:32Speaker 3: Gino Smith and I thought he played great. I know
- 9:36Speaker 3: I said it in the postgame show already, but you know,
- 9:40Speaker 3: some people don't listen to both shows. I didn't think
- 9:43Speaker 3: that you put it all on his shoulders and he'd
- 9:45Speaker 3: be able to do what he did on Sunday. He
- 9:46Speaker 3: didn't come close to turning the ball over, and I
- 9:51Speaker 3: thought that he found his matchups all day. He was
- 9:54Speaker 3: able to get the ball to his better players, which
- 9:56Speaker 3: is not something that you can always do against the Patriots.
- 9:59Speaker 3: So yeah, the only I'll take thee envision.
- 10:03Speaker 2: The only close one wasn't his folly. His arm got
- 10:05Speaker 2: got hit and then Peppers couldn't come up with.
- 10:07Speaker 7: Another coverage bus that should have been a walk in
- 10:09Speaker 7: touchdown and.
- 10:10Speaker 4: Saw yelling in the press bo Yeah, yeah, I mean, but.
- 10:14Speaker 2: You know, despite all that, despite the defensive breakdowns, they
- 10:19Speaker 2: had a chance, you know, at the end, had they
- 10:23Speaker 2: not you know, gone for the you know what was
- 10:25Speaker 2: the third and I forget what it was. If they
- 10:28Speaker 2: had just run the ball and taken the three, this
- 10:31Speaker 2: might have been a whole different game and might have
- 10:33Speaker 2: ended up a win in the wind.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Coat they made the three, they missed if.
- 10:36Speaker 2: They made it, they missed it because they were got
- 10:38Speaker 2: sacked seven yards.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Back, and they missed it because they allowed a guy
- 10:42Speaker 3: to run untouched from.
- 10:43Speaker 2: The butterfly effect that might have.
- 10:47Speaker 3: I had someone within the organization say that could have
- 10:50Speaker 3: been a ten yard field goal and it would have
- 10:51Speaker 3: been blocked.
- 10:52Speaker 2: And that play.
- 10:52Speaker 5: Yes, yeah, absolutely, That's why it kind of busts me,
- 10:56Speaker 5: like because they didn't block. I've heard it a couple
- 10:59Speaker 5: of times saying Fred said it like they let one
- 11:01Speaker 5: get away. I don't really feel like they let one
- 11:03Speaker 5: get away with this.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Look at it THEO I think they did. I agree
- 11:06Speaker 3: with Fred. I think they let it get away. However,
- 11:09Speaker 3: I think the team that was better that day one?
- 11:12Speaker 3: Does that make any sense? I think the Patriots almost
- 11:14Speaker 3: stole one. They were in position to steal the game.
- 11:17Speaker 3: They're on the twenty five yard line, up three with
- 11:19Speaker 3: five minutes. You've got to put that game over.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Well, I would say that they were better, But when
- 11:27Speaker 2: you dropped the ball five six times, does that make
- 11:29Speaker 2: you the better team?
- 11:30Speaker 3: Yeah, it means you were better. You just you just
- 11:33Speaker 3: didn't execute.
- 11:34Speaker 2: So when you drop the ball makes you better?
- 11:35Speaker 3: Yeah? They were they. I mean, these guys just told
- 11:38Speaker 3: you how open these guys were. You were lucky, you know.
- 11:40Speaker 2: But if you dropped the ball, you dropped the ball.
- 11:42Speaker 2: That's that's a lack of execution.
- 11:44Speaker 7: Right, he would have four hundred.
- 11:46Speaker 3: If you're better, you're more talented than the other team. Yes,
- 11:48Speaker 3: you did what you wanted to do more than they
- 11:50Speaker 3: did what they.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Wanted to do. I think they wanted to catch the ball.
- 11:54Speaker 3: Did you ever see anybody so maddening as this?
- 11:57Speaker 2: Right?
- 11:58Speaker 3: Like, right, I know they wanted to make the field
- 12:01Speaker 3: goal to Fred, but the other guy blocked it. That's
- 12:03Speaker 3: a bad that's bad execution, exactly right. So like, what
- 12:06Speaker 3: are we doing? Who did what they wanted to do
- 12:08Speaker 3: more than the other team? Seattle? Seattle played the way
- 12:12Speaker 3: they wanted to play more than the Patriots did, but
- 12:14Speaker 3: the Patriots were in position to steal the game at
- 12:16Speaker 3: the end, I think, and I do agree with you,
- 12:18Speaker 3: they let it slip away. I had it.
- 12:20Speaker 2: I think on offense, the Patriots played the way the
- 12:22Speaker 2: only way they could play, and you know they managed to.
- 12:25Speaker 3: So do you think it's more likely to have a
- 12:28Speaker 3: guy break a tackle in the backfield and run fifty
- 12:30Speaker 3: yards or DK Metcalf catch a crossing route when no
- 12:34Speaker 3: one's on him and hits him in the one fourth?
- 12:36Speaker 2: Well, listen, they didn't do it. It's just a matter
- 12:38Speaker 2: of exactly doing it. Like, listen, I think I think
- 12:42Speaker 2: Seattle's a better team on paper than the Patriots. Right,
- 12:47Speaker 2: they were a Sunday and I think they're a better team.
- 12:50Speaker 2: But the Patriots managed to do what they have to
- 12:52Speaker 2: do to keep that game close. And you know, I
- 12:57Speaker 2: give them credit that way, I take away credit for,
- 13:01Speaker 2: you know, the lack of execution and key moments that
- 13:04Speaker 2: I think allowed the game to slip away.
- 13:06Speaker 7: Yeah. I think there's a ton of truth to that.
- 13:08Speaker 7: I just the big picture is still the same for
- 13:12Speaker 7: this team.
- 13:13Speaker 2: Which is limited.
- 13:14Speaker 7: They're limited, right, I mean one team has three receivers
- 13:17Speaker 7: that you would take on this team in a heartpeat, sure,
- 13:19Speaker 7: and the other team's the Patriots. So it's like every
- 13:22Speaker 7: single game, and I feel like this is the same
- 13:24Speaker 7: story we've gone into the season with every single year
- 13:26Speaker 7: for the past like five years. They're at a major
- 13:29Speaker 7: talent disadvantage on the offensive side of the ball. If
- 13:32Speaker 7: you only throw for one hundred and fifty yards in
- 13:34Speaker 7: the NFL. I don't care about the trends about the
- 13:36Speaker 7: league and the passing yards and things like that, you're
- 13:38Speaker 7: just not going to win very many games doing that.
- 13:40Speaker 2: No, Listen, there's no doubt I mean that you can't
- 13:43Speaker 2: argue that they go into the game at a disadvantage. Yeah,
- 13:47Speaker 2: they go into and that's the way it's going to
- 13:49Speaker 2: be in most weeks, that they're going to go into
- 13:52Speaker 2: most weeks at a disadvantage right from the get go. Yeah,
- 13:56Speaker 2: you know, so they need to have things be kind
- 13:59Speaker 2: of perfect and you know, execute.
- 14:03Speaker 4: They almost did it again but just didn't have the
- 14:05Speaker 4: clutch at the Yeah.
- 14:06Speaker 3: That's that part. I do agree with Freddie, Like I
- 14:08Speaker 3: think I would have considered it, Wow, that's an unbelievable win.
- 14:13Speaker 3: Like they found a way to just hang around enough
- 14:15Speaker 3: and they stole it at the end. But unfortunately they
- 14:18Speaker 3: didn't win the last five minutes. But I felt like,
- 14:22Speaker 3: and fred you said this to me during the game,
- 14:25Speaker 3: even when the Seahawks ended the first half by kicking
- 14:28Speaker 3: a field goal. You said, if they come out and
- 14:31Speaker 3: scored start the second half, this game is over.
- 14:33Speaker 8: Right.
- 14:34Speaker 3: I think you were right. Yeah, right, I think you
- 14:37Speaker 3: were right. And what ended up happened. They don't execute
- 14:39Speaker 3: a fourth down play. They drove, I mean they drove
- 14:41Speaker 3: the length of the field, get stopped on fourth in
- 14:43Speaker 3: less than a yard, and you're just kind of hanging
- 14:46Speaker 3: on and hanging on. Now, the Patriots deserve credit for
- 14:48Speaker 3: hanging on. Sure, but that's what I'm saying, Like, I
- 14:51Speaker 3: think the team that played better won the game. But
- 14:53Speaker 3: the Patriots have to be kicking themselves at a lost
- 14:57Speaker 3: opportunity because I do think all they needed to to
- 15:00Speaker 3: do was go twenty five more yards and end that game.
- 15:03Speaker 3: See like the field goal is not that we're.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Going to argue, Saman I think the better team won
- 15:07Speaker 2: the game. I think I think they didn't necessarily play better. Seattle.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Well, I just look at every number and the factory
- 15:14Speaker 3: number except for rushing yards.
- 15:16Speaker 2: And the fact that the fact that they didn't play
- 15:18Speaker 2: that well made it close. Okay, Anyway, I guess by
- 15:25Speaker 2: and saying that I'm taking away credit from the Patriots,
- 15:28Speaker 2: I know that.
- 15:29Speaker 3: I'm giving the Patriots credit for being spunky and hanging
- 15:31Speaker 3: in the gyp.
- 15:32Speaker 2: And that's what I wanted to say, is, you know,
- 15:35Speaker 2: this is how they're going to have to be for
- 15:37Speaker 2: most of these games.
- 15:38Speaker 3: And I would just say they're gonna have to figure
- 15:40Speaker 3: out ways we've all talked about. How what did you say?
- 15:43Speaker 3: It's like a really hard way to live, narrow path victory.
- 15:46Speaker 3: And that's what I wrote about in the notes this morning.
- 15:50Speaker 3: No secret, everybody's talking about it. It's not like I'm
- 15:52Speaker 3: the only one who thinks this way, But like you
- 15:54Speaker 3: even look at it and say, like, how narrow the
- 15:57Speaker 3: path is. For these two games, they played really well.
- 16:01Speaker 3: I think in both games. I think the Patriots I'm talking.
- 16:04Speaker 2: About played really really well well as they can.
- 16:07Speaker 3: Just to show you. But they have to do that
- 16:10Speaker 3: really just to stay in the game. I understand because
- 16:12Speaker 3: one of these weeks, the reminder Stevenson fumble is not
- 16:15Speaker 3: going to get recovered by the Patriots here here, you know,
- 16:18Speaker 3: that's going to turn it over getting one of these weeks,
- 16:20Speaker 3: Brissette's not going to avoid the seven sacks he probably
- 16:23Speaker 3: should have taken right the other day, and one or
- 16:25Speaker 3: two from one or two of those is going to
- 16:28Speaker 3: result in a strip sack.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, so go figure not only.
- 16:33Speaker 3: The narrow path, but they're basically flawless. You know, Like
- 16:38Speaker 3: when I say flawless, I don't mean there's like zero errors.
- 16:41Speaker 3: You missed a field goal, you have a lot of
- 16:42Speaker 3: field go to get blocked. Ye, you you know, you
- 16:45Speaker 3: botch the clock at the end of the first half.
- 16:47Speaker 2: And it's not flawless when your quarterback's constantly.
- 16:50Speaker 3: Just like they weren't flawless in Cincinnati. But basically that's
- 16:53Speaker 3: about as well as they're going to be able to
- 16:55Speaker 3: play right and and you still have a chance. I mean,
- 16:59Speaker 3: you know, one and one, they probably should be one
- 17:00Speaker 3: in one.
- 17:01Speaker 2: Yeah, but we need so we need to move to
- 17:04Speaker 2: the offensive side of the ball, and we need to
- 17:06Speaker 2: really break down things because it's week two and we're
- 17:10Speaker 2: already hearing from Pop Douglas that he's he thinks things
- 17:13Speaker 2: could be better, at least for him. You know, we're
- 17:17Speaker 2: seeing complete breakdowns on the offensive line from one of
- 17:20Speaker 2: our better linemen, Mike And when you he had a
- 17:22Speaker 2: bad game, he had a bad game. He probably shouldn't
- 17:27Speaker 2: be playing tackle. Let's face it, he might be too
- 17:29Speaker 2: too big for that role.
- 17:31Speaker 7: Some of us have been saying, yeah, guard.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Yeah, he's a good but he's probably miscast right now.
- 17:37Speaker 2: So we've got to break down this offense. And then
- 17:39Speaker 2: we've got to look at the injuries that are happening,
- 17:42Speaker 2: Like pretty much everybody on the offense right now is
- 17:46Speaker 2: dinged up. Bentley looks like he might miss most of
- 17:50Speaker 2: the season, if not all, with a torn Peck. Is
- 17:53Speaker 2: that right? Is that confirmed? Chef Jeremy Fowler thinks he's
- 17:58Speaker 2: playing this week port cheftert Yeah, so we're not sure,
- 18:03Speaker 2: but it looks like he's not. He's off the radar
- 18:06Speaker 2: as far as playing. Uh so, it's a big because
- 18:10Speaker 2: he was playing so well.
- 18:12Speaker 9: Well.
- 18:12Speaker 3: I just think that they I think that they have
- 18:15Speaker 3: been able to make teams one dimensional by their ability
- 18:18Speaker 3: to stop the run. And I think Godshaw to buy
- 18:21Speaker 3: and Bentley you're a big part of that. Yeah, those
- 18:23Speaker 3: three guys, and now you'll lose one of them.
- 18:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:25Speaker 7: And I would also say that him wearing the green
- 18:27Speaker 7: dot is not a small thing either. Kyle Duggar, I
- 18:31Speaker 7: believe took over the green dot when he going out
- 18:33Speaker 7: of the game. And I thought there were a couple
- 18:35Speaker 7: of situations late in the game where they didn't exactly
- 18:39Speaker 7: have everything buttoned up in terms of assignments and things
- 18:42Speaker 7: like that big third downplay and overtime that Sharbonnade just
- 18:46Speaker 7: made the line to gain on there's actually nobody covering
- 18:49Speaker 7: him in the flat. It was a bust. Maybe if
- 18:51Speaker 7: Bentley's out there in that situation, they know who you know,
- 18:55Speaker 7: they know where everybody's supposed to be at.
- 18:56Speaker 2: I can't imagine Scott Peters is sleeping well right now
- 19:00Speaker 2: with the job.
- 19:01Speaker 7: He has curious to see what thy nights.
- 19:04Speaker 2: No, I mean Scott Peters is now the guy that
- 19:06Speaker 2: is delt has been dealt the hand. He's the one
- 19:10Speaker 2: that now has to figure this out.
- 19:11Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean it, yes, on a on a mac micro.
- 19:16Speaker 2: I'm not blaming him. I'm just saying he's got a
- 19:18Speaker 2: tough job right now.
- 19:19Speaker 7: He does. Yeah, But to me, it's they have a
- 19:22Speaker 7: shortage of personnel on the offensive line.
- 19:24Speaker 2: Like, I don't think that that's why it's a tough job.
- 19:26Speaker 3: I don't know what he's saying. You pointing the finger
- 19:28Speaker 3: at Elliott Wollll.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Yeah, Ultimately you know it's personnel. It's it's it's the
- 19:32Speaker 2: front office. But now now here we are and now
- 19:36Speaker 2: it's up to the coaches to make it work.
- 19:38Speaker 7: I don't think it's gonna get much better in.
- 19:40Speaker 3: These short weeks too. Like the injury report to me
- 19:42Speaker 3: is kind of meaningless, Like they're not practicing, and you
- 19:47Speaker 3: know they didn't practice yesterday. They're going to do some
- 19:49Speaker 3: kind of a walkthrough I think tonight. But the all
- 19:53Speaker 3: five guys are on the injury report. I don't know
- 19:56Speaker 3: if that means they're all questionable. Some of these guys
- 19:58Speaker 3: have been on the injury report a and then they're
- 20:00Speaker 3: not listed at all in the game status. They're off
- 20:02Speaker 3: the report. So I don't know if if Andrews and
- 20:06Speaker 3: Robinson and that, if they were all really hurt, went went.
- 20:10Speaker 3: I mean literally all five right, Yeah, Robinson, Andrews and
- 20:15Speaker 3: so are all on the injury report right now, you know,
- 20:18Speaker 3: and those are the five guys you would have thought
- 20:20Speaker 3: you wanted to start the season with. If they're all legitimately,
- 20:25Speaker 3: you know, have a chance to not play in the
- 20:27Speaker 3: game Thursday, I don't know what you do.
- 20:29Speaker 5: Yeah, no, I mean Wallace probably gonna have to go in.
- 20:31Speaker 5: I mean there's then that third tackle stuff is kind
- 20:33Speaker 5: of out the window a little bit with that this
- 20:36Speaker 5: week too.
- 20:37Speaker 7: A couple of times I think that might actually be
- 20:39Speaker 7: a good thing with Wallace, to be honest, like, at
- 20:42Speaker 7: this point, we might as well see if if what
- 20:44Speaker 7: he's got it can't be much worse than the tackle
- 20:47Speaker 7: play that they've gotten through two weeks. So maybe that
- 20:50Speaker 7: even if he comes back at right tackle like permanently
- 20:54Speaker 7: to kick on when who back inside to guard, Like
- 20:57Speaker 7: I would even take that at this point. So I
- 21:00Speaker 7: actually would maybe go to Wallace anyways on Thursday night
- 21:04Speaker 7: and see what he's got. If he can hold his water,
- 21:07Speaker 7: then maybe you start to reconfigure the line a little
- 21:09Speaker 7: bit with him in the line.
- 21:10Speaker 2: So two things. Gerd Mayo's wish to push the ball
- 21:16Speaker 2: down the field, is that just a wish at this
- 21:19Speaker 2: point because or you know, and with all these injuries
- 21:22Speaker 2: and everything else, I mean, you can forget about that.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Or is it something that maybe they can try to
- 21:29Speaker 2: do more? And with the current state of things, are
- 21:32Speaker 2: we happy that Drake may isn't playing.
- 21:35Speaker 5: I mean, I'm happy when I see Persett. I mean
- 21:37Speaker 5: I just saw it again. Brissette like got hit and
- 21:39Speaker 5: like grabbed his knee for a second on one of
- 21:41Speaker 5: those sacks.
- 21:42Speaker 4: That he got everything.
- 21:44Speaker 5: Every time every time I see him take a hit,
- 21:46Speaker 5: I'm glad it's not I'm just glad it's not Drake Man.
- 21:52Speaker 5: And so he goes in there, you know, And that's fine.
- 21:54Speaker 5: If you want to pound the drum for him to
- 21:55Speaker 5: be in there, that's fine. But I just don't want
- 21:57Speaker 5: to hear those people being like, oh, it's a terrible game.
- 21:59Speaker 3: I don't care like the protection at all. I just
- 22:01Speaker 3: do only care about Drake May if he's ready to me. Like,
- 22:05Speaker 3: like Caleb Williams, I watched the game Sunday and I liked.
- 22:08Speaker 3: I liked a lot of what I saw from Caleb Williams.
- 22:10Speaker 3: Did he play great? Nope? No, they only score with
- 22:12Speaker 3: thirteen points now with Dunzey dropped a touchdown on him.
- 22:15Speaker 3: That's four big points that they lost in a very
- 22:17Speaker 3: close game. But I think there's a lot of I
- 22:19Speaker 3: say this all the time. I think there's a lot
- 22:21Speaker 3: of value in what Caleb Williams is going through right now,
- 22:23Speaker 3: but it's learning how to deal with it.
- 22:24Speaker 2: In the current state of the offense. I mean, can
- 22:28Speaker 2: Drake May do any better?
- 22:31Speaker 3: And no, I have no idea.
- 22:32Speaker 2: No, But I'm just but that's what we have to surmise.
- 22:35Speaker 2: I mean, like, is it worth putting him in in
- 22:38Speaker 2: the current state of the art.
- 22:40Speaker 3: I'm just saying I'm not suggesting that I'm mad that
- 22:42Speaker 3: he's not playing. No, I don't have I don't have
- 22:44Speaker 3: the information that and the coaches do.
- 22:46Speaker 2: But I'm just saying that has anything you've seen now
- 22:48Speaker 2: Because I'm a I'm a play May guy. I want
- 22:51Speaker 2: him to play, and I'm the.
- 22:52Speaker 3: Week six I said by Mike Handful.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Unfortunately, I don't have the control of I don't have
- 22:58Speaker 2: the decision. I'm a play meg. I want him out there.
- 23:01Speaker 2: But has anything we've seen kind of for me, for
- 23:04Speaker 2: guys like us and you know, not me, it's probably
- 23:07Speaker 2: just as well he's not out there.
- 23:09Speaker 3: Not not for me. But I understand why people feel
- 23:11Speaker 3: that way. I think quarterbacks get hit.
- 23:14Speaker 5: So how do we tie the Bryce Young of it
- 23:16Speaker 5: all into this?
- 23:17Speaker 4: I mean, a guy who played all last year a.
- 23:19Speaker 3: Terrible team, might he just may not be just not
- 23:21Speaker 3: good enough. I was wrong. Yeah, I missed everybody else.
- 23:26Speaker 3: I just think he's too small and he can't he
- 23:28Speaker 3: can't handle the physicality of the league. That's just my
- 23:32Speaker 3: And he's just.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Not like Kyler Murray's small, but he can move. He
- 23:35Speaker 2: moves around and at the road run and maybe just.
- 23:38Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, and he's also been hurt.
- 23:40Speaker 2: Yeah that's true. Yeah.
- 23:42Speaker 7: I think the back and forth with Drake May is
- 23:44Speaker 7: tough because he's a much more aggressive downfield passer than Jacoby,
- 23:50Speaker 7: So if he goes into the game, they are not
- 23:52Speaker 7: going to have issues throwing the ball down the field.
- 23:55Speaker 7: They just won't because he will throw it down the field.
- 23:58Speaker 2: But if he what if he's undersea, he.
- 24:00Speaker 7: Will throw it down the field. He will find ways
- 24:02Speaker 7: to throw the vote. It's it's been his most since
- 24:05Speaker 7: high school. So I can't imagine that he's going to
- 24:07Speaker 7: get into the game and just all of a sudden
- 24:10Speaker 7: turn into Alex Smith and start thinking and dunking the
- 24:13Speaker 7: ball down the field everywhere.
- 24:14Speaker 2: You know, you look at that game on Sunday with
- 24:17Speaker 2: Brissett in so many times he drops back that backfoot
- 24:22Speaker 2: plants and there's guys coming at him from both sides.
- 24:25Speaker 3: Nowhere to go under a lot of pressure. I mean,
- 24:27Speaker 3: then we've all seen the numbers out there. The pressure
- 24:30Speaker 3: rates are they're among the worst in the league.
- 24:31Speaker 7: They're second worst. And pressure rate they're dead last. And
- 24:34Speaker 7: pass block win rate like they're the worst pass PARTECI.
- 24:37Speaker 2: So are we putting our new quarterback in a position
- 24:40Speaker 2: to succeed if you throw him out there under these conditions,
- 24:44Speaker 2: That's the question they have to ask.
- 24:45Speaker 3: I think, right well, I just think it all is
- 24:47Speaker 3: up to Drake May When when they feel like mentally
- 24:50Speaker 3: he's ready to play, then he's got to go out
- 24:52Speaker 3: and play football because that's going to happen sometimes.
- 24:55Speaker 7: Yeah, I think that there's the downside.
- 24:57Speaker 3: But if it happens all the time, but it's gonna happen,
- 25:00Speaker 3: I mean I I yeah, Okay.
- 25:02Speaker 7: To Jacoby's credit, he hasn't turned.
- 25:04Speaker 3: The ball over.
- 25:05Speaker 5: Quiet, No I am, I will. I just I feel
- 25:07Speaker 5: like I'm exactly where I've been the whole time. I
- 25:09Speaker 5: feel like a few games in and now I've seen
- 25:12Speaker 5: what I want to see. And you know, I after
- 25:14Speaker 5: six games, that's where I feel like I'm going to be.
- 25:17Speaker 5: I I like getting the experience. I like seeing that
- 25:19Speaker 5: there's a semblance of a running game there. So that's
- 25:21Speaker 5: something that you know, makes you feel better about it.
- 25:23Speaker 5: But Paul's I think one hundred percent right. At some point,
- 25:25Speaker 5: you got to play football. If he goes this whole
- 25:28Speaker 5: year without playing, it's a last year.
- 25:29Speaker 3: And if they feel like, you know, he doesn't know
- 25:32Speaker 3: what he's doing. We're doing this stuff and I'm not
- 25:37Speaker 3: suggesting just throw him out there. What's the worst that
- 25:39Speaker 3: can happen. There's a lot of bad stuff that can happen,
- 25:42Speaker 3: you know, like mentally, he can get shot and that
- 25:45Speaker 3: those kinds of things once you start taking the hits
- 25:48Speaker 3: and stuff. But if they feel like he's out there
- 25:49Speaker 3: and he he's on it, and he's understanding the concepts
- 25:53Speaker 3: of what they're doing and recognizing where the pressure is
- 25:55Speaker 3: coming from, I think there's some there's some benefit to that.
- 26:00Speaker 7: There's just a combination right now to me of they're
- 26:04Speaker 7: so limited with their outside receivers and the talent that
- 26:07Speaker 7: they have at that position. I am fully ignoring through
- 26:10Speaker 7: what's on screen right now, there's such a limitation that
- 26:15Speaker 7: they have from an outside receiver standpoint that their only
- 26:18Speaker 7: way to push the ball down the field is to
- 26:19Speaker 7: scheme it up and to find ways of play action
- 26:22Speaker 7: and creativity and things like that to get guys open
- 26:25Speaker 7: down the field. But the problem is is that does
- 26:27Speaker 7: take time.
- 26:28Speaker 2: So if you let's just say, you know, they're not
- 26:31Speaker 2: gonna put May in for the Jets, but let's just
- 26:34Speaker 2: say one of these games coming up, they decide, Okay,
- 26:38Speaker 2: it's May week, we're gonna we're gonna get Drake May
- 26:41Speaker 2: ready for this next game. He's taken all the snaps.
- 26:45Speaker 2: How different of an offense are they practicing or is
- 26:48Speaker 2: it the same?
- 26:50Speaker 7: I don't know. I would assume it's the same question.
- 26:53Speaker 7: I would assume it's the same. Now, is it more gun?
- 26:56Speaker 7: Is it more unc I don't.
- 26:58Speaker 2: Know how is it possible. Is it gonna be different?
- 27:01Speaker 7: I don't think so.
- 27:02Speaker 2: And is that difference gonna make a difference?
- 27:04Speaker 3: Do you think it should be different?
- 27:05Speaker 5: I think it should be different. I mean I think
- 27:07Speaker 5: I gotta tailor it to home. You gotta tailor it
- 27:09Speaker 5: a little bit.
- 27:10Speaker 4: I mean it does. You're not gonna go, oh, here's
- 27:11Speaker 4: the new playbook.
- 27:12Speaker 3: But I didn't draft a third overall pick to turn
- 27:14Speaker 3: around and hand the ball to Ormandra Stevenson twenty five
- 27:16Speaker 3: times a game. Yeah, I can get Tracobe Prissett to
- 27:20Speaker 3: do that for the rest of the season. If I
- 27:21Speaker 3: want to run for one hundred and seventy five yards
- 27:23Speaker 3: every week, I can do that. I don't. I don't
- 27:25Speaker 3: need a third overall pick to do that.
- 27:26Speaker 5: And by the same token, you're not installing a playbook
- 27:28Speaker 5: this summer that well, this is our Jacoby Pressett, Like
- 27:30Speaker 5: you know, May is gonna come in at some point.
- 27:32Speaker 5: At some point, this is going to be the offense.
- 27:34Speaker 5: So I would hope when they're cooking things up in
- 27:36Speaker 5: the summer, they're saying these are placed for Drake May,
- 27:39Speaker 5: and we'll let Jacoby Pressett, you know, like I hope
- 27:40Speaker 5: it's already in place for home so too.
- 27:43Speaker 3: He's the future, right, Can.
- 27:44Speaker 7: I just worry about them being such a gun heavy team.
- 27:47Speaker 7: The gun gun teams that are good gun teams have
- 27:51Speaker 7: a ton of talent on the outside at receiver, like
- 27:53Speaker 7: you're talking about teams like the Bengals and the Eagles
- 27:56Speaker 7: and like these teams that have these superstar receivers. If
- 27:59Speaker 7: you gun all the time, like there's no play action gun,
- 28:03Speaker 7: there's no there's no window dressing for the defense. It's
- 28:06Speaker 7: we're gonna line up and we're gonna just play. Now.
- 28:09Speaker 7: If you have a great quarterback like you can do that.
- 28:11Speaker 7: But it just it puts a lot of the game
- 28:14Speaker 7: on May's shoulders.
- 28:15Speaker 2: What if what if you do like pistol and it's
- 28:17Speaker 2: more rpo based.
- 28:19Speaker 7: I love a pistol personally, I haven't seen them do that,
- 28:23Speaker 7: Like their offense from the pistol would be under center,
- 28:27Speaker 7: Like they would just say, well at that point, like
- 28:29Speaker 7: let's just put the quarterback under center. So I don't know,
- 28:33Speaker 7: it just that's what I worry about. In terms of
- 28:36Speaker 7: uh made being different, like the offense being structured differently.
- 28:41Speaker 7: Is that I don't know if they have the receivers
- 28:43Speaker 7: to run a gun offense and or the line to
- 28:46Speaker 7: be honest with you either.
- 28:47Speaker 3: So ka, I want to ask you three a question
- 28:49Speaker 3: because there's something that came out of the game. Would
- 28:51Speaker 3: Brisset I think mentioned that he felt like they had
- 28:56Speaker 3: tells when they were gonna get ready to take shots.
- 28:59Speaker 3: What'd you guys make of that? I asked the question,
- 29:01Speaker 3: So it was I didn't even know that.
- 29:04Speaker 7: Yeah, because you know, watching from up top, it just
- 29:07Speaker 7: felt like they played a lot of too deep safety
- 29:10Speaker 7: shells whenever the Patriots tried to dial up play action
- 29:13Speaker 7: down the field, and he agreed. He said that it
- 29:15Speaker 7: felt like they had a beat on whether it was
- 29:18Speaker 7: sequencing personnel like I don't I don't know. I didn't
- 29:23Speaker 7: like see anything obvious on on the tape with it.
- 29:26Speaker 7: It's probably a vampelt question, honestly, but it felt like
- 29:31Speaker 7: watching live and watching it back, that they did try
- 29:34Speaker 7: to dial up some shots, especially off play action, and
- 29:37Speaker 7: the couple of times that they did it was too
- 29:40Speaker 7: high and if you're not going to throw it to
- 29:43Speaker 7: the deep part of the field and those structures it's
- 29:45Speaker 7: just not going to be there.
- 29:48Speaker 3: Wow, early, I.
- 29:51Speaker 5: Mean, like, these are the little pieces that are concerning,
- 29:53Speaker 5: because that's you know, personally, I didn't have a huge
- 29:57Speaker 5: problem with Alex Vampell, you know, and that's maybe a
- 30:00Speaker 5: personal issue where I kind of look at everyone saying,
- 30:02Speaker 5: this is a guy who's been around forever, Like I
- 30:04Speaker 5: kind of like that. I kind of feel for a
- 30:06Speaker 5: guy who's been in a position for a while and
- 30:08Speaker 5: maybe has never gotten a shot, and so initially out
- 30:10Speaker 5: of the gate, I felt like, maybe this is a
- 30:12Speaker 5: guy who's been waiting for his opportunity to come along,
- 30:14Speaker 5: and he's gonna make the most of it. And he's been,
- 30:16Speaker 5: you know, obviously in a number of systems, and he
- 30:18Speaker 5: has a lot of knowledge to pull from.
- 30:20Speaker 4: This was a little bit jarring to me, just.
- 30:22Speaker 5: Because the implication is that you're not mixing it up enough.
- 30:26Speaker 5: You don't have enough clubs in the bag to keep
- 30:28Speaker 5: defensive coordinators on their heels. And certainly Mike McDonald is
- 30:31Speaker 5: as good as it gets in the NFL right now.
- 30:33Speaker 5: But it did it did they made I mean, what
- 30:36Speaker 5: what's the stat three passes to wide receivers. I mean,
- 30:38Speaker 5: they just they had no passing games.
- 30:41Speaker 3: In two games. They have four wide receivers I believe
- 30:44Speaker 3: that have caught passes. They have eleven catches for eighty
- 30:46Speaker 3: five yards in two full games. That's the entirety of
- 30:50Speaker 3: your wide receiver.
- 30:51Speaker 4: Behalf me.
- 30:52Speaker 2: We're taking the game fifty years. I mean more.
- 30:55Speaker 7: It's just so tough when you can't block anybody, Like
- 30:58Speaker 7: I would say, this is different than what we've seen
- 31:01Speaker 7: over the lot the last few years. Has been a trainer.
- 31:03Speaker 5: That's what I've been wondering because I'm like I do,
- 31:05Speaker 5: I've forgotten what good offense looks like.
- 31:07Speaker 7: The production might not be in the passing game especially,
- 31:09Speaker 7: might not be like worlds different. But I just feel
- 31:13Speaker 7: like in the last couple of years, a the turnover
- 31:16Speaker 7: differential is massive. I mean, Dishoby Brissett hasn't turned the
- 31:19Speaker 7: ball over by some miracle, hasn't turned the ball over
- 31:22Speaker 7: yet crazy, And that's been big that they haven't had
- 31:26Speaker 7: those catastrophic plays, like we haven't had throw across the
- 31:30Speaker 7: field pick sixes like in Dallas last year by Mac Jones,
- 31:33Speaker 7: Like that stuff isn't happening, and they're running the ball well,
- 31:36Speaker 7: so they have some semblance of like a foundation. Offensively,
- 31:41Speaker 7: they they're just very one dimensional. Some of the plays
- 31:45Speaker 7: that they drew up tod to go deep. It just
- 31:49Speaker 7: the blocking is just not there.
- 31:51Speaker 3: The funny too, because I agree, like the turnovers have
- 31:54Speaker 3: been the biggest difference. They haven't turned it over and
- 31:56Speaker 3: last year I think they turned it over three times
- 31:58Speaker 3: in the first two games. Or you know, I had
- 32:01Speaker 3: three interceptions anyway, thirty six points through two games. You
- 32:07Speaker 3: know how many they had last year through.
- 32:08Speaker 2: Two thirty seven, thirty five, thirty five.
- 32:12Speaker 3: It's the same. It just looks different. Yeah, you know.
- 32:16Speaker 3: Part of it, you know, to me is I can
- 32:19Speaker 3: look and I can watch the games. I think Jacoby
- 32:20Speaker 3: Brissett's played better than Mac Jones because of the turnovers.
- 32:25Speaker 3: Well yeah, you're right, but but production wise he's not.
- 32:27Speaker 2: It did look it does look the same as last year.
- 32:30Speaker 2: The question is will it look the same further into
- 32:34Speaker 2: the season, because if Patriots offense collapsed, I mean it,
- 32:38Speaker 2: it just got worse. It devolved as the season.
- 32:41Speaker 3: It was thirty seven, I skipped the game, no, thirty yeah, whatever.
- 32:45Speaker 2: It devolved, It got worse as the season went on
- 32:48Speaker 2: because because Mac Jones lost it.
- 32:51Speaker 3: I mean, they're averaging eighteen points a game right now.
- 32:53Speaker 3: I think they averaged fifteen last year, So it's a
- 32:55Speaker 3: field goal better if you want to go for the
- 32:57Speaker 3: entirety of this. But right, but like the first week,
- 33:01Speaker 3: the second quarter of the first game of the season
- 33:03Speaker 3: was the best of the offense looked the entire day. Yeah,
- 33:05Speaker 3: if you ask me, Yeah, those two touchdown drives that
- 33:08Speaker 3: they had against the Eagles that got them from a
- 33:10Speaker 3: sixteen to nothing deficit right back in the game at
- 33:13Speaker 3: sixteen fourteen. Never got any better than that the rest
- 33:16Speaker 3: of the year.
- 33:16Speaker 5: I just think you got to get healthy on the
- 33:18Speaker 5: line and just let the same five go out there consistently.
- 33:21Speaker 5: I mean, as much as it's been terrible, it's been
- 33:23Speaker 5: a bunch of different guys having to go in and rotate.
- 33:26Speaker 5: And now we're sitting on the precipice of another you know,
- 33:28Speaker 5: huge question week of who's going to be able to
- 33:31Speaker 5: go Like at the very least, I don't know like
- 33:33Speaker 5: if we're gonna have ever have the personnel this season.
- 33:35Speaker 5: But the only hope you got is that you know,
- 33:37Speaker 5: Caden Wallace emerges the right tackle maybe and when you
- 33:40Speaker 5: slides back inside, and they're able to be a huge.
- 33:43Speaker 2: Test because the Jets are gonna bring it.
- 33:46Speaker 7: Probably one of the biggest mismatches in the NFL this
- 33:48Speaker 7: week is the Jets defensive front against the Patriots offensive line.
- 33:53Speaker 7: It might be the number one.
- 33:55Speaker 3: They do catch a break with, you know, the Jets.
- 33:58Speaker 3: You know, the Jets can't get after the a a
- 34:00Speaker 3: little bit, but their two best guys doing it are
- 34:02Speaker 3: not going to be playing obviously. Jermaine Johnson's out for
- 34:04Speaker 3: the year with a torn achilles and Reddick is not
- 34:08Speaker 3: you know, just suddenly what's hold.
- 34:12Speaker 2: Through.
- 34:13Speaker 3: They still have Quinn Williams, who is one of the
- 34:16Speaker 3: best at what he does, and I think they also
- 34:19Speaker 3: could be without C. J. Mosley.
- 34:21Speaker 4: You know, just saw something sounds like he's okay.
- 34:24Speaker 3: Sala says that he, you know, he's got a shot,
- 34:27Speaker 3: But like the rich Semines of the world, I think
- 34:30Speaker 3: that he's not gonna play Thursday novels. Maybe he'll try
- 34:33Speaker 3: to get it out all right, well, as he missed
- 34:35Speaker 3: most of the Titans game as expected.
- 34:37Speaker 2: A lot of you have something to say, whether it's
- 34:41Speaker 2: via email, at web radio at patries dot com or
- 34:44Speaker 2: on the tp X hotline. Eight five five Pats five hundred.
- 34:48Speaker 2: Let's get to the tp X hotline. We'll start with
- 34:51Speaker 2: Patty and Agawam. What's up, Patty, Hey, hey, hey, just
- 34:59Speaker 2: good up about.
- 35:00Speaker 10: The loss, like a lot of what you guys were
- 35:02Speaker 10: talking about this morning. When I woke up and I
- 35:06Speaker 10: went online and I saw that Juan Bentley was possibly
- 35:09Speaker 10: done for the year, that got me really upset because
- 35:13Speaker 10: I don't know how you guys feel about him, but
- 35:16Speaker 10: he's kind of been that steadying presence on our defense
- 35:19Speaker 10: for the last few years. I know, his first couple
- 35:21Speaker 10: of years he was a little bit hurt, but then
- 35:23Speaker 10: he's sort of like got himself together. And I'm not
- 35:26Speaker 10: saying this to be mean, but he's kind of like
- 35:28Speaker 10: a forgettable and that like you kind of forget that
- 35:31Speaker 10: he's here because he's he's so steady, he's always in
- 35:34Speaker 10: the right place, he always does the right thing, and
- 35:36Speaker 10: he's he's kind of expanded his game in coverage. You know,
- 35:41Speaker 10: they've blitzed him a little bit. And not to mention
- 35:44Speaker 10: this leadership, I think it's going to be a big,
- 35:46Speaker 10: big loss. Hopefully not that big of a loss, but
- 35:49Speaker 10: I just wanted to see what you guys thought about
- 35:50Speaker 10: that and I'll take it off there.
- 35:52Speaker 2: Thanks, thanks Patty. Yeah, no, I agree. He's playing great.
- 35:56Speaker 2: He's the captain out there. He had the green dot.
- 35:59Speaker 2: I think he's got and better every year that he's
- 36:02Speaker 2: been a pro. So this this is, this hurts.
- 36:04Speaker 5: He's just a huge attitude part of the defense too,
- 36:07Speaker 5: which you know, is a leader. He's been around for
- 36:10Speaker 5: a while, I mean last couple of years. He's playing
- 36:12Speaker 5: a lot more on third down. They're using them, you know,
- 36:14Speaker 5: in select situations to blitz. There's no one like him
- 36:17Speaker 5: on the roster. And you can say ray Kwan McMillan,
- 36:19Speaker 5: if you got to lean on him, we'll see if
- 36:21Speaker 5: he's able to stay healthy. But he doesn't have that aggressive, downhill,
- 36:25Speaker 5: hard hitting kind of edge. He's more, you know, more
- 36:27Speaker 5: a little bit. I'd say Tavaya is closer to that.
- 36:29Speaker 5: But just in terms of the green dot, like I
- 36:31Speaker 5: don't trust Kyle Duggar, I don't trust him, like he
- 36:34Speaker 5: has not earned my trust, especially in coverage and especially
- 36:37Speaker 5: not getting everybody on the same page, which you know,
- 36:40Speaker 5: I wonder without mccordy, how is that going to go getting?
- 36:44Speaker 3: You know, we know how.
- 36:44Speaker 5: Important communication is for this defense, and we've seen some
- 36:47Speaker 5: coverages getting blown, some guys not being on the same page,
- 36:51Speaker 5: losing one of your best communicators in the middle.
- 36:52Speaker 4: Of the defense. It's it's no boy, it's yeah good.
- 36:55Speaker 7: He's a huge part of how they structure it too,
- 36:57Speaker 7: because he's basically like another defensive line in the run game,
- 37:01Speaker 7: the way that he can plug gaps so they can
- 37:03Speaker 7: get away with maybe being a man short in the
- 37:05Speaker 7: box sometimes because they have him over the bubbles and
- 37:08Speaker 7: he's the one that that is able to fill those gaps.
- 37:10Speaker 7: So he's a really big part of just how they
- 37:13Speaker 7: kind of structure the entire defense from from top to bottom.
- 37:18Speaker 7: So it's a it's a huge loss. That might not
- 37:21Speaker 7: be a household name around the league necessarily, but when
- 37:25Speaker 7: you watch the ball knowers, they know the way the.
- 37:30Speaker 5: The only real true mic on the roster, like the
- 37:32Speaker 5: other guys are all not quite the same.
- 37:35Speaker 3: I think it's a significant loss.
- 37:37Speaker 2: I do.
- 37:37Speaker 3: I think he's a guy that does a lot of
- 37:39Speaker 3: different things for them, and you know, I think ray
- 37:42Speaker 3: Kwan McMillan probably can be, you know, a presence in
- 37:46Speaker 3: the run game. You know, he's a physical guy. But
- 37:49Speaker 3: I don't think he's going to give you everything that
- 37:51Speaker 3: Bently did from a mental standpoint, from a leadership standpoint.
- 37:54Speaker 2: Yeah, Daniel is in Sacramento. What's up, Daniel.
- 38:00Speaker 9: And gentlemen?
- 38:00Speaker 2: All right?
- 38:03Speaker 8: So I wanted to ask because I know you guys
- 38:05Speaker 8: are talking about when the joint practice with the Eagles
- 38:09Speaker 8: and how much their defensive front just destroyed our really
- 38:13Speaker 8: bad offensive line. Which I think the offensive line has
- 38:16Speaker 8: been steady, but obviously pretty bad, not up to you know, standard.
- 38:21Speaker 8: So now that we're facing the Jets front, would you
- 38:25Speaker 8: say that's it's gonna be pretty hectic like that, like
- 38:28Speaker 8: how you guys are saying how it would just dominates
- 38:31Speaker 8: just at the front of the line where Wheremandre wasn't
- 38:35Speaker 8: able to run, quarterbacks had no time. Remember you guys
- 38:37Speaker 8: are saying the quarterbacks got sacked a bunch of.
- 38:39Speaker 3: Times, but they might be able to run. They've been
- 38:41Speaker 3: able to run in the two games. But I would
- 38:44Speaker 3: expect more of the same that you've seen. Well, think
- 38:46Speaker 3: about pressure on the quarter I.
- 38:47Speaker 2: Think about it. If you're a defensive coordinator, what are
- 38:50Speaker 2: you afraid of in the passing game? So you're gonna
- 38:54Speaker 2: you're going to load the box, and you're going to
- 38:57Speaker 2: put pressure on Jacoby every you know, every time he
- 39:00Speaker 2: drops back. You're gonna test that until Jacoby burns them,
- 39:05Speaker 2: and you're not gonna care. Go ahead, pass the ball.
- 39:09Speaker 7: You know, yeah, he's faced. Uh, Jacoby has faced the
- 39:12Speaker 7: second most stacked boxes in the league through two weeks.
- 39:16Speaker 7: So it's no secret to these defenses that they can't
- 39:20Speaker 7: throw the ball on the outside. It's really it's the
- 39:23Speaker 7: run game. And maybe it's Hunter Henry, you know, and
- 39:26Speaker 7: that's you talk about guys who worries you. They're circling
- 39:30Speaker 7: their run game and they're circling Henry. So what's gonna
- 39:33Speaker 7: happen when they start taking away Hunter Henry in the
- 39:36Speaker 7: passing game? Then then what you know? He's he's really
- 39:39Speaker 7: been the only guy that Jacoby trusts. From any story.
- 39:42Speaker 2: You have to you have to earn you have to
- 39:45Speaker 2: earn their fear. You have to like make them worry
- 39:48Speaker 2: about something they you know, right now based on the tape,
- 39:53Speaker 2: they really don't have to worry about the Patriots passing game.
- 39:57Speaker 4: Well, this is where the season starts.
- 39:58Speaker 5: Like you know, anybody can come the first couple of
- 40:00Speaker 5: weeks and you know, you get lucky maybe, or a
- 40:03Speaker 5: game just unfold specifically and maybe you win. But now
- 40:06Speaker 5: you're putting stuff on tape. Teams are starting to realize
- 40:08Speaker 5: what you actually can do. They can put the Patriots
- 40:10Speaker 5: offensive line right under the microscope. They know what Stevenson
- 40:14Speaker 5: is capable of. And now it's about how do we adjust,
- 40:16Speaker 5: how do we find success from this, because you're not
- 40:19Speaker 5: going to continue to win with this formula because teams
- 40:22Speaker 5: are just more and we're going to try to clamp up.
- 40:23Speaker 2: But what I hope they don't do is revert back
- 40:26Speaker 2: to what they've done in past years with those behind
- 40:28Speaker 2: the line of scrimmage passing, that passing game. I hate that.
- 40:32Speaker 2: I hate that.
- 40:32Speaker 3: I would get ready for some of that with Tomrio
- 40:34Speaker 3: Douglas on Thursday. I'm primed and ready for an overc
- 40:38Speaker 3: over compensation, and an over correction. We're going to get
- 40:41Speaker 3: the ball in his hands early. I don't mind doing that.
- 40:44Speaker 2: On a quick slant, but none of that flat pass
- 40:47Speaker 2: behind the line where they've got everybody in the box anyway,
- 40:50Speaker 2: so it's so easy to defend. I Oh wow.
- 40:54Speaker 3: Freddy not a big fan of the screen game. Oh,
- 40:56Speaker 3: let's you speed, you know, let's find something.
- 40:59Speaker 2: To Mario Douglas. You don't think he's fast.
- 41:03Speaker 3: I think he's quick, shifty.
- 41:04Speaker 2: He's really can get open fast. Let's put it that way.
- 41:07Speaker 2: That's all I'm looking to take your word for it.
- 41:09Speaker 2: I just want to see him get open fast.
- 41:10Speaker 7: I have some theories on Pop Douglas. I have some
- 41:14Speaker 7: theories maybe.
- 41:16Speaker 5: Getting guarded by what was that Jacoby can't throw the
- 41:19Speaker 5: little guys in camp he was like, I got to
- 41:21Speaker 5: get used to throwing this small guy.
- 41:23Speaker 7: I mean Jacoby said that. I don't think Jacoby likes
- 41:25Speaker 7: throwing them the ball.
- 41:26Speaker 3: It's interesting because it just does have a good You
- 41:30Speaker 3: guys learn me stuff sometimes, learned me stuff. I never
- 41:35Speaker 3: thought of it. You never thought like he doesn't like
- 41:36Speaker 3: throwing a small guy.
- 41:38Speaker 5: What do you what do you guys make also too
- 41:39Speaker 5: of like in training camp, them saying we want to
- 41:41Speaker 5: be a big screen team, and what do they run?
- 41:43Speaker 5: Like three four screens through two games like it hasn't even.
- 41:45Speaker 3: Been They've gotten playing with the exception of the one Henry,
- 41:48Speaker 3: they've all gotten blown up. Yeah, and there forgetting the
- 41:51Speaker 3: ones that pass, I think people are forgetting the ones
- 41:54Speaker 3: that Jacoby throws at Stevenson's feet on purpose to avoid
- 41:58Speaker 3: a loss. Like I heard a lot of people, what
- 42:00Speaker 3: happened to the screens?
- 42:01Speaker 2: What happens?
- 42:01Speaker 3: Did you watch the game? Did you see what happens
- 42:03Speaker 3: when they tried to do it?
- 42:05Speaker 4: Just can't.
- 42:05Speaker 7: You're also just a team that all the issues that
- 42:08Speaker 7: we've talked about. Every defense in the world knows they're
- 42:11Speaker 7: going to try to throw screens like it's, you know,
- 42:14Speaker 7: to Freend's point about you know, the quick game or whatever,
- 42:17Speaker 7: like Okay, that's that's the big fixes. You guys are
- 42:19Speaker 7: gonna throw screens in quick game like shocker, like you know.
- 42:23Speaker 7: So I just feel like the screens are predictable for
- 42:26Speaker 7: this team right now because they don't have a downfield
- 42:28Speaker 7: passing game. So what else are they gonna do?
- 42:30Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 42:30Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 42:31Speaker 3: And the other the other part that I think is
- 42:33Speaker 3: making it difficult is I think I saw a stat
- 42:36Speaker 3: that's been blitzed the least amount of times in football, Yeah,
- 42:40Speaker 3: which you know for once, I got one, right, Yeah.
- 42:42Speaker 3: I don't know why you would blitz them. I don't
- 42:44Speaker 3: know why you would blitz the Patriots. You don't crush
- 42:46Speaker 3: it with four you don't have to. And I think
- 42:49Speaker 3: that makes it tougher for you know, an average group
- 42:52Speaker 3: of receivers to deal with with coverage. Now you have
- 42:56Speaker 3: extra bodies. My that's my to Mario Douglas theory is
- 42:59Speaker 3: I think ke he's seeing a higher quality quality of
- 43:02Speaker 3: cornerback than he did last year because I think he's
- 43:05Speaker 3: the guy now. I can't tell you that he's gotten
- 43:08Speaker 3: covered by Riek Woolen and Devon Weatherspoon on every play.
- 43:13Speaker 3: I didn't charge every play, every personnel group, but my
- 43:17Speaker 3: feeling is the opposing defense is going to look at
- 43:19Speaker 3: that receiver group and say, Douglas might be able to
- 43:22Speaker 3: burn us for a thirty yard chunk here or there
- 43:25Speaker 3: if we don't watch it. Thornton might be able to
- 43:27Speaker 3: get behind us. If we don't watch it. We're gonna
- 43:28Speaker 3: make sure that doesn't happen.
- 43:30Speaker 7: Just the part that kind of just grinded my gears
- 43:33Speaker 7: about the whole thing. So they run that reverse, they
- 43:36Speaker 7: give it would to probably the slowest receiver on the
- 43:39Speaker 7: team in Jalen Polk, And it's like Taekwon and Pop
- 43:43Speaker 7: Douglas are just sitting on the bench and we all
- 43:45Speaker 7: saw it live from the press box. I felt like
- 43:48Speaker 7: it had a chance if it had hit faster. The
- 43:51Speaker 7: Polk's credit actually hit like over nineteen miles an hour.
- 43:55Speaker 7: He was kind of.
- 43:56Speaker 3: Moving, maybe the worst thing that's ever happened, But he wasn't.
- 44:00Speaker 7: He doesn't have that that second gear right, so he
- 44:03Speaker 7: when he's turning the corner, it just it took a
- 44:05Speaker 7: long time. It took a long time for him to
- 44:07Speaker 7: get there. If that's you know in uh week one,
- 44:10Speaker 7: you know Xavier worthy is is turning the corner and
- 44:14Speaker 7: it's a touchdown. You know, like those are the differences,
- 44:17Speaker 7: Like why the usage of the personnel there just was
- 44:20Speaker 7: a little head scratching, like why isn't that Thornton?
- 44:22Speaker 2: Uh oh, you were surprised they used him. They were
- 44:24Speaker 2: hoping the other team would be too.
- 44:25Speaker 7: Yeah, I guess, uh not do.
- 44:28Speaker 2: Is in Cambridge? What's up?
- 44:30Speaker 1: Not?
- 44:30Speaker 11: Do not do.
- 44:35Speaker 2: Know from Cambridge?
- 44:37Speaker 4: No, not going to do that?
- 44:38Speaker 3: Call all right, don't no, Okay, he'll call back. He wasn't.
- 44:44Speaker 3: You must have.
- 44:46Speaker 2: We got a lot of a lot of emails. You
- 44:49Speaker 2: wouldn't believe the amount of emails that we're getting.
- 44:52Speaker 3: Maybe you should read.
- 44:52Speaker 2: It's like it's like a ticker at the stock exchange.
- 44:55Speaker 4: It's just it's how do we fix this passing game.
- 45:00Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a good question, and it's not an easy fix,
- 45:03Speaker 3: just because the personnel issues are a parent.
- 45:06Speaker 2: Yeah. Thatt is in Santa Cruz writing in at web
- 45:10Speaker 2: radio at Patriots dot com. He says, what a treat
- 45:13Speaker 2: this season has been. I thought we were going to
- 45:15Speaker 2: be completely pathetic and win maybe five games. We still might,
- 45:19Speaker 2: I know, however, we are competitive. You guys can come
- 45:23Speaker 2: on the radio and talk about what we could have
- 45:25Speaker 2: done to win the game and where we need to improve.
- 45:28Speaker 2: It's just like a normal middle team. I love it.
- 45:31Speaker 2: I thought we were going to talk about how awful
- 45:33Speaker 2: we are and keep thinking about three or four years
- 45:36Speaker 2: down the future all year. But guess what, We're a
- 45:39Speaker 2: meddling team. I think he means middle a team just
- 45:43Speaker 2: like everybody else, and we're competitive, so he's happy about that.
- 45:49Speaker 3: Just like the year before. There's a big difference that's
- 45:53Speaker 3: changing everybody's mindset. No, but because Belichick left and there
- 45:56Speaker 3: was no hope going into the season when Belichi was here,
- 46:01Speaker 3: people like Connor or from Sports Illustrated predicted that they
- 46:04Speaker 3: would win the division last year because of Belichick. He's
- 46:08Speaker 3: not here, and people said that's it. We have no
- 46:12Speaker 3: hope going into the season. Otherwise, you're playing competitive games
- 46:16Speaker 3: just like you did the last two years, with very
- 46:18Speaker 3: little offense to get into a fight with. And it's
- 46:22Speaker 3: really not all that different. They're competitive as hell. They
- 46:25Speaker 3: are competitive. Not so far they are.
- 46:30Speaker 7: I mean I understand, like we it's an eye test
- 46:33Speaker 7: thing like they they're not scoring, you know, zero points
- 46:37Speaker 7: at home against the Chargers, six points in Germany and.
- 46:45Speaker 3: To lose the game again. We'll see. There's a long
- 46:48Speaker 3: season there. Games scoring what they scored last year through
- 46:52Speaker 3: two games, we'll see if that continues.
- 46:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I got I got it. I got A different
- 46:58Speaker 2: question is if if May doesn't come in and they
- 47:01Speaker 2: continue with Brissett, are they so predictable on paper that
- 47:05Speaker 2: do they do revert to what they did last year
- 47:08Speaker 2: where they're scoring six points a game or seven points
- 47:11Speaker 2: a game or can the offense get better.
- 47:15Speaker 7: I'm not sure about about the actual points per game
- 47:20Speaker 7: bottom line, But they're not going to turn the ball
- 47:23Speaker 7: over as much with this group.
- 47:25Speaker 3: Because they don't throw the ball.
- 47:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:28Speaker 3: I just don't think many times you can throw interceptions.
- 47:32Speaker 3: I mean, that's listen.
- 47:33Speaker 2: If not turning the ball over means that they're averaging
- 47:36Speaker 2: eighteen to twenty two points a game. Oh that's that's
- 47:40Speaker 2: better than last.
- 47:41Speaker 3: Twenty two they average twenty two points a game. I'm
- 47:43Speaker 3: in Yeah, there's a big difference there, big difference.
- 47:46Speaker 7: There's just a huge difference to me about they had
- 47:50Speaker 7: nothing last year offensively like their run game. Right now
- 47:53Speaker 7: they have a legit running game, do they they really
- 47:56Speaker 7: do it? Maybe teams will adjust to it and they'll
- 47:58Speaker 7: put eight guys in the box and and they'll have
- 48:00Speaker 7: issues both teams.
- 48:02Speaker 3: I wouldn't I say, you're.
- 48:04Speaker 2: Right Evan right now, but I guarantee if that's all
- 48:06Speaker 2: they have in week twelve, we're not scoring points.
- 48:10Speaker 3: But if you can get to twenty two, now that's
- 48:12Speaker 3: a whole touchdown different.
- 48:13Speaker 2: But the only way, the only way you get to
- 48:15Speaker 2: twenty two is if you would start to be more balanced.
- 48:19Speaker 7: You have to you know, it's the play action. If
- 48:22Speaker 7: they they have to find a way to block play
- 48:25Speaker 7: action to get it off the running game. Because you
- 48:29Speaker 7: go into these games and you run for one hundred
- 48:30Speaker 7: and eighty yards and you can't hit a single play
- 48:32Speaker 7: action play down the field. It just does. It doesn't
- 48:35Speaker 7: compute to me that those two things can exist at
- 48:37Speaker 7: the same time. So whether it's protection or whatever design,
- 48:41Speaker 7: play design, whatever the case may be, if they can
- 48:44Speaker 7: find a way. They're not going to be a good
- 48:45Speaker 7: drop back pass team. They're just not. They're not going
- 48:48Speaker 7: to block people. They don't have the talent at quarterback, like,
- 48:51Speaker 7: they're not going to drop back pass at a high level.
- 48:53Speaker 7: But if they can scheme up play action off this
- 48:56Speaker 7: running game, then maybe they can get to twenty points
- 48:59Speaker 7: a game. You know, I think that is possible. I mean,
- 49:01Speaker 7: Joe Flacco did it off his couch for the Browns
- 49:04Speaker 7: last year and took them to the playoffs with the
- 49:07Speaker 7: same scheme. So like, it's not like it needs to
- 49:10Speaker 7: be you know, Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers out there
- 49:13Speaker 7: for them to throw the ball in this offense. They
- 49:15Speaker 7: just for some reason, they can't get the play action going.
- 49:18Speaker 2: Tom and Edinburgh remember that, I do. Yeah, disappointing loss
- 49:23Speaker 2: considering the team made me believe that it was possible
- 49:26Speaker 2: to win. Before Paul says it's fantasy land, which it is,
- 49:30Speaker 2: Please entertain my thoughts. The Chargers used their first round
- 49:34Speaker 2: pick on Joe Alt, who, by all accounts, is going
- 49:36Speaker 2: to be an outstanding left tackle, yet they play him
- 49:39Speaker 2: at right because of Slater. Is this feasible for long
- 49:43Speaker 2: or will they have to move them around to keep
- 49:45Speaker 2: people happy? Does this make an opening for a trade offer? Wild?
- 49:49Speaker 2: I know, but it seems crazy that the Chargers drafted
- 49:52Speaker 2: all with Slater as Slater isn't old.
- 49:55Speaker 4: I think the Chargers love having both of us.
- 49:59Speaker 3: I saw something that had them the two highest rated
- 50:01Speaker 3: tackles of the week.
- 50:02Speaker 4: Yeah, they had.
- 50:03Speaker 5: They did really well in Clowney. I think he went
- 50:04Speaker 5: against last week.
- 50:05Speaker 3: I had a couple of times, and I would just
- 50:07Speaker 3: say I haven't seen any I haven't seen one second
- 50:10Speaker 3: of the two Chargers games. But I know how Jim
- 50:12Speaker 3: Harball wants to play, and I would imagine he likes
- 50:15Speaker 3: the fact that he has two dominant tackles to to
- 50:17Speaker 3: be physical behind. DJ Dobbins is a DK JK JK
- 50:22Speaker 3: JK Dobbins just in DK Metcalf I get my nowadays.
- 50:25Speaker 3: I mean he looks like a whole different guy.
- 50:27Speaker 7: Yeah. I think left and right don't matter as much
- 50:30Speaker 7: as to teams as maybe they did once upon a time,
- 50:34Speaker 7: because you face the same You're facing the same level
- 50:37Speaker 7: of pass rusher, no matter which side of the line
- 50:39Speaker 7: you're lined up again. So Joe all can stay at
- 50:41Speaker 7: right tackle.
- 50:42Speaker 3: For as long as he can do it. Yeah, I
- 50:44Speaker 3: think there's there's some some guys that have a hard
- 50:46Speaker 3: time switching, but.
- 50:47Speaker 7: Doesn't see look like Jo He'll get paid twenty twenty
- 50:50Speaker 7: five million dollars a year to play right tackle too.
- 50:53Speaker 3: If he's a dominant tackle, he'll he'll get his money.
- 50:55Speaker 7: Pen right exactly.
- 50:57Speaker 3: Peel plays right tackle exactly.
- 51:00Speaker 2: Scott and Virginia has a question for Evan only me.
- 51:03Speaker 2: He said, I noticed a lot of people saying Pop
- 51:05Speaker 2: is not getting the ball because he's continually the third
- 51:08Speaker 2: or fourth read, Jacoby doesn't have time to throw the
- 51:11Speaker 2: ball to him. Does this scheme force a progression on
- 51:14Speaker 2: the quarterback or is Jacoby to blame for not finding
- 51:17Speaker 2: the mismatch pre snap?
- 51:19Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean there's progressions in every offense. But I
- 51:21Speaker 7: agree that I don't see Pop in the initial read
- 51:24Speaker 7: a ton. He was on the third down sack in
- 51:28Speaker 7: the game on Sunday, the big one that we we
- 51:31Speaker 7: talked about earlier, but the biggest thing. We kind of
- 51:34Speaker 7: hinted at it jokingly, but I think it's genuine. I
- 51:37Speaker 7: don't necessarily believe that Jacoby loves throwing him the ball
- 51:41Speaker 7: because of how short he is, and because of it,
- 51:44Speaker 7: he doesn't have a great catch radius, and that if
- 51:48Speaker 7: you're not pinpoint accurate as a quarterback and you don't
- 51:53Speaker 7: think the guy is gonna save you, if the ball's
- 51:55Speaker 7: a little high or whatever the case may be, it
- 51:57Speaker 7: might be a little tough to throw him the football
- 52:00Speaker 7: certain situations. The other thing I would point to that
- 52:03Speaker 7: isn't quite as tinfoil Hattie is just he's not a
- 52:07Speaker 7: base receiver in this offense. This is a run first offense.
- 52:11Speaker 7: He doesn't play in a twelve lock. He doesn't play
- 52:13Speaker 7: in twelve personnel. Really, the only thing that he can
- 52:16Speaker 7: do on first down is go in motion, which like,
- 52:20Speaker 7: how often are you really going to have him do
- 52:23Speaker 7: that throughout the course of a game. He can't play
- 52:26Speaker 7: the slot on early downs because he can't block. So
- 52:30Speaker 7: it just from a stylistic standpoint, he's just not a
- 52:34Speaker 7: very good fit for what they're currently doing right now.
- 52:37Speaker 3: Do you have the numbers you guys gonna know you
- 52:40Speaker 3: eleven personnel? It seems like they are in that a lot.
- 52:43Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, so he plays in eleven They were in
- 52:46Speaker 7: twelve twenty times in the game on Sunday.
- 52:49Speaker 2: He was on the.
- 52:49Speaker 7: Field for two of those snaps. So the other thirty
- 52:53Speaker 7: six snaps that he played, we're all in eleven personnel,
- 52:56Speaker 7: So he is the third receiver that comes on the
- 52:58Speaker 7: field when they go to a Evan, But Osbourne and
- 53:02Speaker 7: Polk are their base receivers because those guys are bigger
- 53:05Speaker 7: and they can stick their hat into the run fit
- 53:07Speaker 7: and block people. So that that's a big difference for
- 53:11Speaker 7: I know, it drives people nuts that we talked me
- 53:13Speaker 7: nuts about run blocking and things like that. I get that,
- 53:17Speaker 7: but it's just as clear as day that he doesn't.
- 53:20Speaker 7: They don't play him in heavy personnelity with fans on
- 53:23Speaker 7: first down.
- 53:23Speaker 3: Yeah, it seems to me like he's your best receiver.
- 53:26Speaker 3: He should be out there.
- 53:27Speaker 2: I just don't find I don't remember. I don't know
- 53:31Speaker 2: Wes Welker doing a lot of blocking. Maybe he did.
- 53:34Speaker 7: Didn't run the ball a lot?
- 53:36Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it's a different offense. They certainly didn't run
- 53:40Speaker 3: for one hundred and eighty eighty yards.
- 53:41Speaker 2: You know, put pop in the slot, get open and
- 53:43Speaker 2: throw them the ball. I mean, that doesn't seem complicated.
- 53:47Speaker 7: About on third down or two minutes or whatever, then yeah, absolutely,
- 53:52Speaker 7: and they need to do that more. But this base offense,
- 53:56Speaker 7: it's just.
- 53:56Speaker 2: What about a drive starter?
- 53:57Speaker 7: How are you going to run duo with a one
- 53:59Speaker 7: hundred and eighty on receiver trying to dig out the nickel?
- 54:01Speaker 7: Like good luck? Like that's just not going to work.
- 54:07Speaker 7: I need something moved.
- 54:10Speaker 3: I haven't. I ton't know anybody. Twenty two cowboys moved
- 54:15Speaker 3: on that one.
- 54:16Speaker 2: Yeah the ball knowers the balls.
- 54:18Speaker 7: I don't mean to do that, but like the is
- 54:20Speaker 7: it was good?
- 54:20Speaker 2: It was.
- 54:21Speaker 7: The point is is that it just it just doesn't compute.
- 54:24Speaker 7: It just doesn't compute. Or like if they're going to
- 54:26Speaker 7: run outside zone, so they they did run outside zone
- 54:29Speaker 7: a couple of times where they brought him in motion
- 54:31Speaker 7: in the other direction to kind of move the defense over.
- 54:34Speaker 7: But that's literally all he can do and that situation
- 54:37Speaker 7: is just going motion Otherwise, like you're gonna put him
- 54:39Speaker 7: at the point of attack on outside zone.
- 54:41Speaker 3: So Freddy, I'm gonna not argue with you.
- 54:43Speaker 2: He'll block a lot.
- 54:45Speaker 7: No, they motion him, Okay, that's motion our guy.
- 54:47Speaker 3: Where they did go with you here? I know I
- 54:50Speaker 3: always I hear you say he's Tyreek killed, so one
- 54:54Speaker 3: of one of the people, one of you, I think
- 54:55Speaker 3: the most important. Some people call them the dollar store
- 55:01Speaker 3: Tyreek Hill. I don't know. Maybe you know out of
- 55:04Speaker 3: business dollar store. But if you look back at the
- 55:09Speaker 3: key one of the key junctions that we talked about
- 55:11Speaker 3: the end of the first half, I think it was
- 55:13Speaker 3: the second. First of all, everything about that sequence was
- 55:16Speaker 3: horribly managed by the coaching staff. Like you come out,
- 55:18Speaker 3: you run the ball, you decide we're gonna let time
- 55:23Speaker 3: tick off the clock because Jamichael Hasty's run didn't get anything,
- 55:26Speaker 3: and then you throw the ball twice and like, I
- 55:30Speaker 3: don't think they could make up their mind what they
- 55:31Speaker 3: wanted to do. Okay, so there was a philosophical problem there,
- 55:35Speaker 3: But I think the second down play was like, after
- 55:41Speaker 3: all of that, you run four verticals and you run
- 55:46Speaker 3: your own eight yard line. That's not really the time.
- 55:50Speaker 3: Like in the last minute, when you're trying to get
- 55:52Speaker 3: off the field and just keep the clock running, that
- 55:55Speaker 3: didn't seem like a very opportunity time to take a shot.
- 55:58Speaker 3: Like to Fred's point, why not instead have something quick
- 56:03Speaker 3: to Tomorio Douglas where he's crossing the field. Maybe he
- 56:06Speaker 3: catches it. Maybe he's breaking a tackle. Maybe he gets
- 56:09Speaker 3: a step on a guy chasing him and he turns
- 56:11Speaker 3: it out field, and all of a sudden, you get
- 56:13Speaker 3: a free fifteen yards. Maybe he scats out of bounds,
- 56:16Speaker 3: and now hey, game on without a two minute drill.
- 56:19Speaker 3: They haven't even been able to get into a two
- 56:21Speaker 3: minute drill. Now this gets back to practice. Do we
- 56:24Speaker 3: see a single good two minute drill in practice? Very
- 56:28Speaker 3: rarely like the one that the most successful one took
- 56:31Speaker 3: about a half an hour. You remember that day when
- 56:33Speaker 3: Brissette was saying, like they really, you really don't want
- 56:35Speaker 3: to be using thirteen plays on these drives.
- 56:37Speaker 7: You know, Yeah, they had one where he hit Thornton
- 56:40Speaker 7: on a go route against Gonzales. That was like the
- 56:42Speaker 7: big play of the drive. That was like the one
- 56:45Speaker 7: time where.
- 56:45Speaker 3: Was that against the Eagles that ended up stalling once
- 56:47Speaker 3: they got down there.
- 56:48Speaker 7: No, this was like a Patriots practice, But that was
- 56:51Speaker 7: the one time I remember, like a clean They really
- 56:54Speaker 7: round him as one minute drills now.
- 56:56Speaker 3: But I'm watching like last night, the end of the
- 56:58Speaker 3: game in Atlanta did not look great offensively. For vast
- 57:03Speaker 3: big chunks of that game, all of a sudden they
- 57:06Speaker 3: get in a two minute drill and Kirk Cousins looked
- 57:08Speaker 3: like Tom Brady. I mean it was surgical, how easy
- 57:11Speaker 3: he went down the field. And he's throwing to guys
- 57:13Speaker 3: like Darnell Mooney.
- 57:14Speaker 7: It's not like I like Darnel, good player.
- 57:18Speaker 3: I don't know, can can Douglas not be anything like that?
- 57:20Speaker 7: I think that that's a really good comp for what
- 57:22Speaker 7: pop Douglas.
- 57:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I know I'm not crazy. I'm not
- 57:25Speaker 3: calling him Tyreek Hill like human points out wisely that
- 57:28Speaker 3: others in the local. And I also think that, oh,
- 57:31Speaker 3: here we go. I think that's a little I was
- 57:34Speaker 3: saying this to Mike as we were walking. I think
- 57:35Speaker 3: that's part of the do Mario Douglas quandary right now?
- 57:39Speaker 2: Overrated.
- 57:40Speaker 3: The local media had just anointed him as the next
- 57:43Speaker 3: Edelman Welfare whoever, based off of, you know, a really
- 57:47Speaker 3: promising rookie year like what there was talk of him
- 57:54Speaker 3: smashing through the hundred reception mark. Can we let him
- 57:58Speaker 3: do it before? Like you know, and we're just gonna
- 58:01Speaker 3: base it on a bunch of five yard passes that
- 58:03Speaker 3: he caught in training camp practice. When he gets when
- 58:05Speaker 3: he got back off of whatever the hand problem that
- 58:07Speaker 3: he had was like, and this is not a show.
- 58:09Speaker 3: I think to Mario, Douglas is the best receiver they have.
- 58:12Speaker 3: I'm not telling you that I think he can't play.
- 58:14Speaker 3: So don't turn this into Paul's beating up on the
- 58:16Speaker 3: Patriots again, That's not what I'm doing. I think the
- 58:19Speaker 3: media perception of has raised the expectations, and now like
- 58:24Speaker 3: he goes a couple of games where he's a non
- 58:26Speaker 3: factor and people like, well, the first thing they have
- 58:29Speaker 3: to do is he needs to be out there and
- 58:30Speaker 3: he needs to be a base a base receiver. Well,
- 58:33Speaker 3: Evan's given you a lot of football reasons why that
- 58:35Speaker 3: might not make sense, like his size and his lack
- 58:39Speaker 3: of physicality. If you're gonna have him out there sticking
- 58:43Speaker 3: his nose and trying to how do you call it
- 58:45Speaker 3: dig out the second, I'm not sure that's the best
- 58:53Speaker 3: way to have him operate. I'm not sure throwing the
- 58:55Speaker 3: ball to him, you know, a really high percentage of
- 58:58Speaker 3: the time is a great way to have him operate,
- 59:00Speaker 3: based on his concussion history.
- 59:02Speaker 5: This is just another example, though, of things not quite
- 59:05Speaker 5: fitting the offense right now, whether it's the offensive line,
- 59:08Speaker 5: the style of guys that they have the style of
- 59:11Speaker 5: receivers that they have what they're trying to do, Like,
- 59:13Speaker 5: the only thing that really fits right now and feels
- 59:15Speaker 5: like is Remandre and Gibson, and those two pieces fit
- 59:17Speaker 5: their running game pretty well. But I mean, I'm sure
- 59:20Speaker 5: there'd be some pushback on Remandre too as to how
- 59:22Speaker 5: well he really fits this scheme. I don't know that
- 59:24Speaker 5: that to me. That's the big takeaway from two weeks
- 59:26Speaker 5: is we're talking a lot about these guys.
- 59:28Speaker 2: Don't fit with It'll be better when Kendrick Bourne gets back.
- 59:31Speaker 3: It will be, I mean, it will be, but I'm
- 59:34Speaker 3: not he should help. I mean, he's not going to
- 59:36Speaker 3: make them a good passing offense, but he'll make them better.
- 59:38Speaker 3: He's better than what they have. He's better than Osborne, Yes,
- 59:41Speaker 3: that's for sure.
- 59:42Speaker 12: So so yeah, a couple more weeks which were re eligible,
- 59:47Speaker 12: we're waiting for another fight there, weren't you.
- 59:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm with you, a better receiver. Agree with Evan
- 59:52Speaker 3: and I agree with Fred.
- 59:53Speaker 7: Week five Miami, Yeah he was around Halloween, he and yeah,
- 59:57Speaker 7: but they they did box him outside zone pretty well
- 1:00:01Speaker 7: in the game on Sunday. That was probably there.
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: Because hit seventeen foul balls.
- 1:00:04Speaker 7: That was probably the best outside zone game they've had.
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: They did. We were talking about it. Evan was learning
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: to me that the outside zone step because I always
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: asked him before I make it the declarative sentence.
- 1:00:16Speaker 7: Now one of them, Antonio Gibson, broke about six tackles
- 1:00:20Speaker 7: and went for forty five yards. I want the numbers
- 1:00:22Speaker 7: are a little bit inflated in the charting, but just
- 1:00:25Speaker 7: in general, I thought that they blocked it pretty well on.
- 1:00:28Speaker 12: Multiple runs outside the right sideline, I was nineteen yards.
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: That was very well.
- 1:00:33Speaker 7: Ladon Robinson great, he.
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: Had the edge. I mean like, like you say, he's
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: gonna like you see, he's gonna put his foot down
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: and he's going to get up the sideline unimpeded. The
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: other one to me is like that was all Gibson,
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: all of his zone. I think it was that that
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: missed the tackle.
- 1:00:49Speaker 7: Oh yeah, I love Vermandre, but this offense needs explosiveness,
- 1:00:55Speaker 7: and Gibson is an explosive guy, even if it's in
- 1:00:59Speaker 7: some you know, we talked about screens. We taught like
- 1:01:01Speaker 7: any sort of way to get him the ball into
- 1:01:03Speaker 7: some space that I would argue with.
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: I don't think they've thrown anything to Gibson.
- 1:01:07Speaker 7: And he had one third down conversion or beat the
- 1:01:10Speaker 7: linebacker to the flat. But just in general, they need
- 1:01:13Speaker 7: to find ways to get him the ball in space
- 1:01:15Speaker 7: because they just don't have a ton of guys that
- 1:01:17Speaker 7: run away from people and he does.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: Matt and Virginia Beach. I'm definitely disappointed by the loss
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: because I feel like it's a game we had a
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: real chance to win. I think that the potential lethality
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: of the Patriots offense relies totally on the development of
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: Drake May. Now I'm not banging the table for me
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: to start against New York actually it's New Jersey. But
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: ja Kobe Brissette will never be able to take this
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: team to the next level. He is what he is,
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: game manager and not a game breaker. With all that
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: being said, I don't feel any sense of hopelessness like
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: I felt under the Mac Jones, Bailey Zappi led teams.
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: I agree because Drake May is the best club in
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: the bag still.
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: I truly that's a good way to put it. I
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: truly feel like we have a chance to win every
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: game we play this season, and I haven't felt that
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: way for a long time. I consider that to be
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: a very positive step forward. Under the Droid Mayo regime,
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: every game will be likely a salty rock fight, but
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: it appears that we have the fighting spirit within the
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: locker room.
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: I hope.
- 1:02:18Speaker 5: So I'm just not ready to make declare the statements
- 1:02:20Speaker 5: about this whole team and about what they are and
- 1:02:21Speaker 5: how every game's gonna go.
- 1:02:23Speaker 4: This has been two games and they've.
- 1:02:25Speaker 5: Played pretty well. I thought they've looked pretty well coached.
- 1:02:27Speaker 5: They weren't as clutch in the second game. There's positive
- 1:02:30Speaker 5: things to build off of.
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: But I would just say I can't tell everybody how
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: they felt going into games last year and how they
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: feel going into games this year. They had a chance
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: to win every game last they got blown out twice. Like,
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: I just think it's unfair with people are like putting
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: on the difference in coaching. Yeah, like if Belichick did
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: what Mayo did at the end of the first half,
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: they would have eviscerated them eviscerated. That was coaching malpractice.
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: That was like willingly giving the other team a chance
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: ants to put points on the board. It happens, it
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: was a mistake. But I just think that people look
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: at well, well, you know, everything's you know, we got
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: a chance to win because everybody is so stunned. Well,
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: the expectations right, because of the expectations when Bill left right,
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: the expectations was so low. That's why I said, I
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: can't tell you how to feel. I didn't think that
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: they had no chance to win these two games. I
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: thought there'd be one and one. I got them wrong.
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: I thought they would lose to Cincinnati and beat Seattle.
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: I thought they had a chance to win both games.
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: I really did. Now I think they have a chance
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: to win this game too. On Thursday night. After that,
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: I'm gonna probably readjust a little bit moving forward, although
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: the way that season's going for the Niners, they might
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: have to forfeit. So who knows.
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: They're dropping like snowflakes over there, snowflakes. All right, We're
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: gonna take a break, rocket shop my foods here. We
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: will be right back. Lots of emails, as they said,

- 1:05:20Speaker 14: Everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx where
- 1:05:24Speaker 14: now meets next for residential delivery.
- 1:05:26Speaker 15: Only good afternoon, you know, had an opportunity to go
- 1:05:36Speaker 15: back and go through the film, had an opportunity to
- 1:05:40Speaker 15: go and meet with the coaches as well. In all
- 1:05:41Speaker 15: three phases of the game, we just didn't do enough.
- 1:05:44Speaker 15: We didn't execute when we needed to at the end
- 1:05:47Speaker 15: of the half or the end of the game. And
- 1:05:49Speaker 15: it's disappointing.
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: And this is a.
- 1:05:52Speaker 15: It's a true loss. If we don't learn anything from it.
- 1:05:54Speaker 15: We're going to use this as a teaching experience and
- 1:05:57Speaker 15: so talked about it, talk about it at the beginning
- 1:06:01Speaker 15: of the season. What success looks like for me, and
- 1:06:04Speaker 15: that's just getting better each and every week, not only
- 1:06:07Speaker 15: the players, but also the coaches and myself.
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: What do you hope you last?
- 1:06:12Speaker 15: Yeah, you know, I continually preach that every single play matters,
- 1:06:17Speaker 15: and you can go back in that game and you
- 1:06:19Speaker 15: can find eight to ten plays where if we would
- 1:06:23Speaker 15: have just did that, and I hate that, right, like
- 1:06:25Speaker 15: if this would have happened, if that would have happened, Well,
- 1:06:27Speaker 15: it didn't happen, and so to me, it's you know,
- 1:06:30Speaker 15: the average play being five six seconds whatever. It is like,
- 1:06:34Speaker 15: you have to have the ultimate focus and maintain that
- 1:06:36Speaker 15: focus as the game continues on. Now, there were a
- 1:06:39Speaker 15: lot of good things on the film, and I'm you know,
- 1:06:41Speaker 15: I'm not into I'm not into you know, a good
- 1:06:46Speaker 15: loss or anything like that. That's not what I'm saying.
- 1:06:48Speaker 15: But there were a lot of good things. I thought
- 1:06:49Speaker 15: we were still able to run the ball, to control
- 1:06:52Speaker 15: a line of scrimmage, even when we were down. I
- 1:06:54Speaker 15: felt like we were in control of the game. One thing,
- 1:06:57Speaker 15: you know, if you offensively, we got to find a
- 1:07:01Speaker 15: way to get the ball down the field. We got
- 1:07:02Speaker 15: to find a way to get the ball in our playmakers'
- 1:07:04Speaker 15: hands so those guys can go out there and uh
- 1:07:07Speaker 15: and make yards. So and that's and that's on you know,
- 1:07:10Speaker 15: it's a hybrid, it's a it's a it's on the
- 1:07:13Speaker 15: coaches myself, starting with myself, And that definitely is something
- 1:07:17Speaker 15: that we have to continue going forward. Defensively, you know,
- 1:07:20Speaker 15: those guys went out there and played hard, had a
- 1:07:22Speaker 15: few three and outs. We need we have to get turnovers.
- 1:07:25Speaker 15: We have to find a way to get turnovers and
- 1:07:27Speaker 15: get the ball back into our offensive hands. And then
- 1:07:30Speaker 15: I would say special teams wise, you know, the main
- 1:07:32Speaker 15: thing being that block field goal that everyone remembers. But
- 1:07:35Speaker 15: like I said earlier, there were more. There were more
- 1:07:39Speaker 15: plays than just the the blockfield goal that cost us
- 1:07:42Speaker 15: this game.
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: Corrected in your mind or all these things.
- 1:07:47Speaker 15: Yeah, I don't think anything at this level is easy.
- 1:07:53Speaker 15: I think there is some low hanging fruit though that
- 1:07:54Speaker 15: we can take advantage of going forward.
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: Had a day to kind of chill on everything, would
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: you have done anything differently, either with the fourth and
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: one in overtime or the clock management the way you
- 1:08:06Speaker 3: guys called the end.
- 1:08:07Speaker 15: Yeah, I don't want to get into you know, if
- 1:08:09Speaker 15: this would have happened or looking back like that, you know,
- 1:08:11Speaker 15: and dealing the hypotheticals. I made a decision, and you know,
- 1:08:14Speaker 15: it's a decision that I have to live with, and
- 1:08:17Speaker 15: I'm willing to take the consequences either way. And uh,
- 1:08:22Speaker 15: you know, all those all of those key decisions, whether
- 1:08:24Speaker 15: it's to take the ball I mean at the going
- 1:08:26Speaker 15: into overtime or not taking the ball going like those
- 1:08:28Speaker 15: are all things that can change on a game by
- 1:08:31Speaker 15: game basis and also the flow of the game. And
- 1:08:33Speaker 15: so you know, maybe the defense is played great are,
- 1:08:36Speaker 15: the offense is playing great, and all those things come
- 1:08:38Speaker 15: into play. So I wouldn't change anything. But at the
- 1:08:41Speaker 15: same time, to your point, you have to go back
- 1:08:43Speaker 15: and evaluate, you know, just that whole.
- 1:08:45Speaker 16: Operations free to those conversations going.
- 1:08:52Speaker 15: Look, all of those guys in that locker room want
- 1:08:55Speaker 15: to play football. All those guys in the locker room
- 1:08:57Speaker 15: want to help this team win. And if they're not frustrated,
- 1:09:00Speaker 15: then that's that's an even bigger problem. Frustrations. I mean,
- 1:09:05Speaker 15: every single week, someone's gonna be frustrated. Every single week
- 1:09:09Speaker 15: you're gonna have to put more on one side of
- 1:09:10Speaker 15: the ball, or more on one individual than the other,
- 1:09:13Speaker 15: just based on matchups alone. And you know, if you're
- 1:09:15Speaker 15: not frustrated that, that to me just says a lot.
- 1:09:18Speaker 3: I know you're asked about him yesterday and today, but
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: do you have any update Onokes four or four and
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: whether you expect him to be available if you interest.
- 1:09:26Speaker 15: Look, Chukes left the building. He's not with the team.
- 1:09:31Speaker 15: You know, he's doing some thinking, but at this point
- 1:09:33Speaker 15: in time, he's not with the team. So I don't
- 1:09:34Speaker 15: want to I don't want to get into that. I
- 1:09:37Speaker 15: told you guys, I did give him a call, we
- 1:09:38Speaker 15: had a we had a good call, and uh, it
- 1:09:41Speaker 15: had nothing to do with football or roster spot. Had
- 1:09:43Speaker 15: everything to do with just making sure that he was okay,
- 1:09:48Speaker 15: was dutter at.
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: The green down and how easy like communication went.
- 1:09:52Speaker 15: The communication was good and it was dutter. And remember
- 1:09:55Speaker 15: Duggart did it all last year as well, so it
- 1:09:57Speaker 15: was not anything new for him. I've always been a
- 1:10:01Speaker 15: huge believer in like a linebacker having the green dop.
- 1:10:03Speaker 15: But I'll tell you the way dugger played yesterday as
- 1:10:06Speaker 15: a whole and able to handle the communication, he definitely
- 1:10:09Speaker 15: field in field in for that role. Yeah, that you know,
- 1:10:19Speaker 15: it's hard for offensive and defensive players who you know,
- 1:10:23Speaker 15: they feel they are just an offensive player or defense.
- 1:10:26Speaker 15: It's hard at this level. It's not like in college
- 1:10:28Speaker 15: where you have one hundred people on the sideline. So
- 1:10:30Speaker 15: special teams is always part of the conversation and you
- 1:10:34Speaker 15: always try to get uh unless you're there's the absolute
- 1:10:38Speaker 15: best at your position or quarterback, like, they all have
- 1:10:41Speaker 15: to play special teams. So we talk about that's the
- 1:10:43Speaker 15: hidden yardage and we have to take advantage of those things.
- 1:10:46Speaker 15: And let's see how it goes going forward.
- 1:10:48Speaker 10: What was that atmosphere like coaching in your first overtime game,
- 1:10:52Speaker 10: having having control of everything that the team was doing offensively, and.
- 1:10:56Speaker 15: It was great. It was great, you know. Unfortunately, you know,
- 1:10:59Speaker 15: we walked away with an l. But it was good
- 1:11:01Speaker 15: to be home. I thought the fans came out and
- 1:11:04Speaker 15: you know, they were loud and disappointed we weren't able
- 1:11:07Speaker 15: to deliver a win.
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: For You've talked a lot about toughness, and Jacoby has
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: shown that is there or what is the level of
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: concern with a Way and how many times he's been
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: hit in these.
- 1:11:16Speaker 15: First two games, and you never want your quarterback to
- 1:11:19Speaker 15: get hit. We have to do a better job in
- 1:11:21Speaker 15: our pass pro up front, and we have to keep
- 1:11:23Speaker 15: him clean because even when he's not getting hit, or
- 1:11:25Speaker 15: any quarterback, if they're back there and they feel people
- 1:11:28Speaker 15: around him, it always is going to affect you a
- 1:11:29Speaker 15: little bit. Now I'm saying that I've always said, Look,
- 1:11:32Speaker 15: Jacoby is a great leader. He's a competitor, but he's
- 1:11:34Speaker 15: also he's a very tough player mentally and physically. And look,
- 1:11:39Speaker 15: we'll try to keep him clean going forward. But there
- 1:11:41Speaker 15: I mean, look, he has shoulder pads on just like
- 1:11:43Speaker 15: everyone else, so see how it goes.
- 1:11:45Speaker 9: You have any injury updates regarding family and I guess Jakobe.
- 1:11:51Speaker 15: Yeah, so those guys are with the doctors right now.
- 1:11:54Speaker 15: We had our injury check this morning, as I told
- 1:11:56Speaker 15: you guys yesterday, and I'm still kind of waiting to
- 1:11:58Speaker 15: hear back on some of that stuff. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:12:02Speaker 15: he's another one. Like the injury check was this morning.
- 1:12:05Speaker 15: You know, some of these guys had to get MRIs
- 1:12:07Speaker 15: and second opinion. So to me, I probably misspoke when
- 1:12:10Speaker 15: I said, you know what, I'll be able to tell
- 1:12:12Speaker 15: you at this press conference because once again full transparency,
- 1:12:15Speaker 15: but once again you know you can give the team diagnoses.
- 1:12:19Speaker 15: But a lot of these guys, whether it's them or
- 1:12:21Speaker 15: their agents, want to get a second opinion. So I
- 1:12:23Speaker 15: don't feel comfortable talking about that until they get their
- 1:12:25Speaker 15: second opinion.
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: Is able to go this week? What's your level of.
- 1:12:29Speaker 17: Confidence and.
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: Uh, we'll have to see.
- 1:12:33Speaker 15: You know, he's he's had some some good snaps for us,
- 1:12:36Speaker 15: And I mean that's what it's all about. It's you know,
- 1:12:38Speaker 15: next man up mentality. I know it sounds very cliche
- 1:12:41Speaker 15: or very corny, but that's I mean, that's the world
- 1:12:43Speaker 15: we live in. Like, this is the roster that we
- 1:12:45Speaker 15: have and we're gonna We're gonna make do with it.
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: And now great moments in history.
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: Richard in Prague right said, please tell Matt Lower look
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: like he's wrong. It's pronounced Edinburgh, not Edinburgh.
- 1:13:05Speaker 3: This just won't go time out.
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: I haven't finished time out.
- 1:13:09Speaker 7: Because I know he's gonna write.
- 1:13:10Speaker 3: Yeah. I was much more lenient of the email timeout.
- 1:13:14Speaker 3: I let you read the whole thing. As matter of fact, if.
- 1:13:16Speaker 5: Fred hasn't read any of the emails, and there have
- 1:13:19Speaker 5: been that have said Eric's right, you've refused to read
- 1:13:22Speaker 5: any of those.
- 1:13:23Speaker 3: I've seen comments on Twitter, absolutely refused.
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: The tour guide who told him otherwise was clearly a
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: major bell end. I've never heard that. That must be
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: in Scottish frog thing. I just thought it was funny,
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: they said. One of the guys said I was right,
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: and I didn't even know what I was saying. I
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: was just kind of throwing like Edinburgh.
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: That's another great moment from.
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: All right back here and Patriots Unfiltered eight five five
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: past five hundred is the TPX hotline web radio at
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: patriots dot com. It's the email address. It's Evan Paul myself, dudes,
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: Matt in the booth. Hello, okay, just.
- 1:13:58Speaker 11: Eight, get any quickly, quickly, I might need a bib.
- 1:14:04Speaker 11: There's no mite, Yeah, burpia or burpia Yeah, a little bit, all.
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: Right, Tim writes, And given the recent Bryce Young news,
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: why aren't fans in New England more concerned about starting
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: a rookie on a bad team? More often than not,
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: these kids need a lot to go right around them
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: to succeed Carr Young, Donald Bradford, Wilson, Lance Jones, Fields,
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: on and on and on. I don't want this kid
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: in this team to start early only to be a
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: cautionary tale.
- 1:14:35Speaker 7: Well, seems like you're gonna get your wish because he's
- 1:14:37Speaker 7: not playing.
- 1:14:38Speaker 3: So yeah. I just think it's too simplistic the way
- 1:14:41Speaker 3: people cag a right. I mean, if a guy plays
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: right away and he doesn't work out, it's because you
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: played too early. Yeah, Like okay, yeah, if you tell
- 1:14:51Speaker 3: me so, If you tell me Bryce Young would have
- 1:14:53Speaker 3: been a star if he sat eight weeks and this
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: wouldn't be happening, I'll take your word for it. I
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: don't know. I can't tell you I'm right.
- 1:15:00Speaker 5: But what are the saying operations on though, is this
- 1:15:01Speaker 5: like we need to pull them back? And is this
- 1:15:04Speaker 5: like your mental resets?
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: He played, he played too early and they don't have
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: the roster to support him, so they ruined him. That's
- 1:15:11Speaker 3: the that's the Twitter, because the Twitter has all the answers,
- 1:15:15Speaker 3: much like to taga Loa should retire because because people
- 1:15:21Speaker 3: that watch football say so, yeah, Antonio Piis by the way,
- 1:15:25Speaker 3: should be fined.
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: But they're all Paul, you got it, they're all concerned
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: for Tua.
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: How many to Mario Douglas get last year? To anybody
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: calling for him to retire? No, not yeah, because it's
- 1:15:41Speaker 3: not of our business.
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: Well he didn't do the fencing, but it's.
- 1:15:43Speaker 3: Not of our business. It's it's it's up to the
- 1:15:46Speaker 3: player to take, you know, the information that he has,
- 1:15:49Speaker 3: weigh the risks, decide what he wants to do, what's
- 1:15:52Speaker 3: best for him. There's plenty of guys. Who's that linebacker
- 1:15:55Speaker 3: from San Francisco Borland? I think Chris Borland retired after
- 1:15:59Speaker 3: like his first year, had a good YEP, first or
- 1:16:01Speaker 3: second year, that what was best for him, right, that's
- 1:16:04Speaker 3: what that's what he decided to do.
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: Yep. Franklin and Baltimore. I know you guys will spend
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: some time talking about the game, but I have to
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: mention I see how Carolina just torpedoed any chance of
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: Bryce Young being a decent player. And I'm all the
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: more glad May didn't follow the same route because I
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: think multiple things can be true. Yes, Bryce is bad
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: and has shown no sign of improvement from year one
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: to year two. And yes there are other quarterbacks who
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: can overcome a bad situation. But if you're a team
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: who has invested as much capital as the Panthers did
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: in getting Young, it doesn't do your organization any good
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: to then just throw him to the Wolves before he's
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: ready and expect them to show a maturity of a
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: veteran when managing a bad team. Some young quarterbacks do
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: need more time than others. And it's nighttime, and it's nighttime,
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: we hold it's not time. Maybe we hold front offices
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: accountable for poorly supporting the young players. Thankfully, the Patriots
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: are doing the right thing and aren't rushing for instant
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: gratification while the team is still under construction.
- 1:17:15Speaker 7: I sort of have a question in the back that
- 1:17:17Speaker 7: last point, but just out of curiosity, like name the
- 1:17:22Speaker 7: best receiver on the Carolina Panthers, Right, I'm feeling Deontay
- 1:17:26Speaker 7: Johnson Adam feeling maybe right like it just their situation
- 1:17:31Speaker 7: in Carolina is malpracticed because they had two full off
- 1:17:35Speaker 7: seasons to stock Bryce Young supporting gats and have done well.
- 1:17:38Speaker 3: They also wasted all their resources getting Bryce Young right.
- 1:17:41Speaker 7: And including trading DJ Moore, who would have been very
- 1:17:44Speaker 7: helpful to.
- 1:17:45Speaker 3: Now he probably wants to go back by Burns like
- 1:17:48Speaker 3: they wasted a lot of Listen, I'm not going to
- 1:17:51Speaker 3: turn this into the Panthers, but I just have a
- 1:17:54Speaker 3: quick question. When I was fourteen, how do we know
- 1:17:57Speaker 3: that Bryce Young wasn't ready right?
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: That's I think it's something there that you don't know.
- 1:18:02Speaker 7: Their situation to me, has nothing to do with Bryce Young.
- 1:18:05Speaker 7: If the Patriots go into next off season twenty twenty
- 1:18:08Speaker 7: five and they still have this line and these receivers
- 1:18:12Speaker 7: and all that, it's gonna have nothing to do with
- 1:18:13Speaker 7: Drake May. Necessarily it's gonna have to do with the
- 1:18:15Speaker 7: fact that Elliott Wolf didn't do his job.
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: Now, I'm not as smart as these people. I don't
- 1:18:19Speaker 3: know the state of readiness that all these players have.
- 1:18:23Speaker 3: Like I don't. I didn't know that Trey Lance was
- 1:18:25Speaker 3: gonna break his ankle in his second career style, I
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: didn't know that was gonna happen. I'm not as smart
- 1:18:29Speaker 3: as these people. Yeah, Like I think there's a million
- 1:18:32Speaker 3: ways that quarterbacks fail and succeed. Yeah, and I think
- 1:18:35Speaker 3: that we just think there's only there's only two. Either
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: guy plays too early or they do it the right way. Now,
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: those are the only two.
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: I have to admit. I haven't watched a lot of
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: Bryce Young, so I don't know the eye test.
- 1:18:45Speaker 3: He stinks, right, I mean there is what is what
- 1:18:48Speaker 3: it is?
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: Like? Like I watched Caleb Williams the other night. He
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: looked okay, Like.
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: I thought he looked really good, to be honest.
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: With you, he threw the ball well with you know,
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: with confidence. I thought he moved around. He's going to
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: get better, Like he has a lot to He's got
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: to learn that. He can't run around right seven times
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: the ball. But you can see like him out there
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: is going to help him, Like it's it's now listen.
- 1:19:14Speaker 7: He's so much more talented than Yeah, he.
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: Might he might not work right like for that. There
- 1:19:19Speaker 3: might be other reasons why, But I just don't think
- 1:19:22Speaker 3: it's always if the guy plays too early and it
- 1:19:25Speaker 3: doesn't work out, it's because he played too guy plays
- 1:19:27Speaker 3: right away, it's because he played too early, right. I
- 1:19:29Speaker 3: think that's so simplistic. There's no pressure on anybody.
- 1:19:32Speaker 7: Like I have one of the Baker Mayfield league.
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: Let's look at your guy, Baker Mayfield, who I'm not
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: a huge fan of, is better with him? Has he looked?
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: Looks great?
- 1:19:41Speaker 3: He's playing all right? Right, Yeah, it's doing okay. Played early.
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: Cleveland ruined him right.
- 1:19:48Speaker 5: Right, That would have ruined like three times Cleveland ruined him.
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: Then you know he left it or or maybe it
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: just took him a while to figure out how to play. Yeah,
- 1:20:00Speaker 3: and he was fine. They're like, it's not this mental
- 1:20:03Speaker 3: battering that he had. I don't know. Maybe he would
- 1:20:06Speaker 3: probably tell you maybe I could have used a little
- 1:20:09Speaker 3: more time to develop, and he probably like who wouldn't.
- 1:20:12Speaker 3: But I just don't think it's a blanket statement that
- 1:20:16Speaker 3: like if you right away, you played too.
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: Early, or he could tell you being out there right
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: away helped me because I faster.
- 1:20:22Speaker 7: You know, he was actually good as rookie year. He
- 1:20:25Speaker 7: was really good as k He kind of had like
- 1:20:26Speaker 7: a Mac Jones of it all where the rookie year
- 1:20:28Speaker 7: was good and then it kind of takes.
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: I just know me, and whether it was in sports
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: or a classroom, I learned by doing a lot faster
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: than just listen.
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: And that worked for you. Right now, someone else might
- 1:20:42Speaker 3: work by watching, you know, learn by watching, and he
- 1:20:45Speaker 3: benefits from it. I just my problem isn't that I'm
- 1:20:48Speaker 3: I think I'm right. That's not my problem. Your problem
- 1:20:52Speaker 3: is I don't know saying it has to be this way, right,
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: there's only and it's everybody's analysis is strictly result based.
- 1:21:01Speaker 3: I don't need an analysis if you're just gonna tell
- 1:21:03Speaker 3: me who won the game, right, like I have the
- 1:21:07Speaker 3: school board for that. Like obviously Bryce Young has been terrible.
- 1:21:12Speaker 3: Did you see like do you see some of his
- 1:21:14Speaker 3: stats Mike.
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: Years?
- 1:21:17Speaker 4: Oh no, I saw him getting run around getting killed.
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: Like literally the Patriots passing game is doubling that. Think
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: about that, that's how bad it's been. Yeah, But I don't, like,
- 1:21:28Speaker 3: I don't I just don't know everything that all these
- 1:21:30Speaker 3: other guys seem to know.
- 1:21:31Speaker 5: That he was wasn't ready, and it's such without context
- 1:21:34Speaker 5: of their college careers of guys who were Drake May
- 1:21:36Speaker 5: who's twenty one, who really started two years whereas this
- 1:21:38Speaker 5: is a guy like Jayden Daniels, who you know, what,
- 1:21:40Speaker 5: what's Jayden Daniels like If you're gonna sit him now
- 1:21:42Speaker 5: at twenty four to twenty five years, like, you got
- 1:21:44Speaker 5: to get him going. You know, he's got all that
- 1:21:47Speaker 5: college experience that he has to go off of. Whereas
- 1:21:49Speaker 5: you know, kid like May's a little bit younger.
- 1:21:51Speaker 3: So like those three, those three rookies that are playing right,
- 1:21:55Speaker 3: none of them are ready, like because the rookie is
- 1:21:57Speaker 3: just probably not going to be ready, right, but I
- 1:22:01Speaker 3: don't know, like Washington has been able to be serviceable
- 1:22:05Speaker 3: with Jayden Daniels.
- 1:22:05Speaker 7: Been the best.
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: You know, it's a question do you get them ready
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: on the bench or do you get them ready by playing?
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: Either way, like you said, none of them are ready.
- 1:22:14Speaker 3: To me, the only one of them looks like he's
- 1:22:15Speaker 3: way over his head.
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: Get them ready quicker and better.
- 1:22:19Speaker 3: Like when I watched this because I watched a good
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: chunk of the Denver game because we were playing Seattle, Yeah,
- 1:22:23Speaker 3: and I thought bo Nix looked like he was way
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: over his head.
- 1:22:25Speaker 7: He had to Mac Jones interceptions in that game off
- 1:22:29Speaker 7: the back foot, just lofting the ball.
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: And he said when they asked him, you know, what
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: did you see on that interception? He goes, I dropped
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: back and through it to the other team. That was
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: his explanation.
- 1:22:40Speaker 3: I wouldn't like that if I was Sean Payton. But
- 1:22:44Speaker 3: he's got four picks in two games. He looks to me,
- 1:22:47Speaker 3: you know, like he's struggling. Daniels runs around. He's a
- 1:22:51Speaker 3: great athlete and he gets himself out of a lot
- 1:22:53Speaker 3: of trouble, you know with that, And I think Williams,
- 1:22:56Speaker 3: I agree with you, especially in the first half the
- 1:22:58Speaker 3: other night. I thought there was a big improvement from
- 1:23:01Speaker 3: Week one to week two. We missed a lot of
- 1:23:02Speaker 3: easy throws in week one. He's going to have to learn,
- 1:23:06Speaker 3: much like Brian Hoyer said about May in the preseason,
- 1:23:10Speaker 3: like you can't just run around because these guys in
- 1:23:14Speaker 3: this league are just as fast as you and they're
- 1:23:16Speaker 3: gonna you can't just run around. Give ground. He had
- 1:23:19Speaker 3: like a nineteen yard sack he took in the first game,
- 1:23:22Speaker 3: and some of the interceptions were as a result of
- 1:23:25Speaker 3: him just trying to do too much. He's got to
- 1:23:27Speaker 3: learn that kind of stuff.
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: He and how big, and then that becomes the bottom line.
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: How best to learn that? Is it just sitting on
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: the bench or actually getting in the game and making
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: those mistakes and learning from that. There's no right answer.
- 1:23:41Speaker 3: Learning from it, though, is the key. Whether he's on
- 1:23:44Speaker 3: the field or on the bench, does he learn from
- 1:23:46Speaker 3: it or do you just see the same mistakes over
- 1:23:48Speaker 3: and over it.
- 1:23:49Speaker 7: The vibe I get from the Patriots handling with Drake
- 1:23:52Speaker 7: is more him watching Jakobe go through the motions of
- 1:23:58Speaker 7: being a starting quarterback in the league. More so then
- 1:24:01Speaker 7: he's only gonna learn the stuff we're talking about by playing.
- 1:24:06Speaker 7: I don't think that they believe that he's gonna stand
- 1:24:09Speaker 7: on the sideline and holding the clipboard and all of
- 1:24:11Speaker 7: a sudden learn how to redefenses and do all this
- 1:24:14Speaker 7: other stuff by sitting on the sideline. They want him
- 1:24:17Speaker 7: to mature a little bit before they throw him out there.
- 1:24:21Speaker 7: They want to show him, you know, this is what
- 1:24:23Speaker 7: a ten year veteran in the league does to prepare
- 1:24:26Speaker 7: on Tuesday for a game that's not until Sunday. Like
- 1:24:30Speaker 7: this is the way that you go about watching film,
- 1:24:33Speaker 7: This is the way that you go about scouting an
- 1:24:35Speaker 7: opponent like those types of things, because they aren't in
- 1:24:38Speaker 7: any rush. Like if they felt like they they needed
- 1:24:41Speaker 7: to rush him on the field, then they would probably
- 1:24:43Speaker 7: just say, just learn that stuff, you know, we'll walk
- 1:24:46Speaker 7: it through it and we'll get you there. But they
- 1:24:47Speaker 7: aren't in any rush. I don't think it's that they
- 1:24:51Speaker 7: believe he's gonna be better off from sitting. In terms
- 1:24:53Speaker 7: of all the stuff we're talking about, like Caleb holding
- 1:24:56Speaker 7: the ball too long, or you know, bo Nick's throwing
- 1:24:59Speaker 7: bad interceptions or whatever the case may be. That stuff
- 1:25:02Speaker 7: is going to come from playing. But they want him
- 1:25:04Speaker 7: to learn how to be a pro. And I also
- 1:25:07Speaker 7: think they wanted the offense to in general just settle down,
- 1:25:11Speaker 7: at least settle into some sort of an identity before
- 1:25:14Speaker 7: they put him.
- 1:25:15Speaker 4: In their fingers crossed, we'll get there, I believe.
- 1:25:18Speaker 2: Derek writes in are the Patriots doing on? When you
- 1:25:21Speaker 2: a disservice putting him at right tackle and not his
- 1:25:24Speaker 2: normal position of guard.
- 1:25:27Speaker 5: I mean, personally, I feel like I've been consistent. I
- 1:25:29Speaker 5: just I think he's a really good guard. Yeah, I
- 1:25:32Speaker 5: think he's an okay tackle. And it's just I have.
- 1:25:35Speaker 7: A tough time saying disservice because he already got paid.
- 1:25:38Speaker 3: Kind of getting paid like a right tackle.
- 1:25:40Speaker 7: He's already making money, so it's not like he's on
- 1:25:42Speaker 7: the last year of his rookie contract and he's trying
- 1:25:44Speaker 7: to hit free agency on a high. He already got
- 1:25:48Speaker 7: his money. But yeah, he's he's out of position.
- 1:25:51Speaker 3: I think he'd be better served at guard. I agree
- 1:25:53Speaker 3: with everybody. But he is getting paid. I think he's
- 1:25:58Speaker 3: like on the fringe of the top ten right tackles
- 1:26:00Speaker 3: at nineteen million AAV something like that. It's just like
- 1:26:05Speaker 3: he's underpaid. Let's put it that way.
- 1:26:06Speaker 5: It's just not a twenty I mean, you you paid
- 1:26:08Speaker 5: this guy. You you know, touted him as a big
- 1:26:11Speaker 5: signing of you know, kind of the crown jewel of
- 1:26:13Speaker 5: your offensive line in the offseason, and the reports that
- 1:26:17Speaker 5: he came in overweight, that he's you know, having a
- 1:26:19Speaker 5: bad game in Week two. I mean, these are the
- 1:26:21Speaker 5: guys that you need to rise up and set the
- 1:26:23Speaker 5: tone and you know, carry the torch on the offensive line,
- 1:26:26Speaker 5: and right now, to have him have a bad game,
- 1:26:27Speaker 5: it's just it's disheartening. It's okay, I understand if it's
- 1:26:30Speaker 5: a left tackle position, I think we're all used to
- 1:26:32Speaker 5: that at this point, but but getting it from him
- 1:26:34Speaker 5: when you it's that's that's a step backwards.
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: Todd's in North Carolina the TPX outline, what's up Todd?
- 1:26:40Speaker 17: Hey, you get up to that And gentlemen, I took
- 1:26:42Speaker 17: away some positives from the game thinking that, you know,
- 1:26:44Speaker 17: they tried to do some other stuff and they didn't
- 1:26:46Speaker 17: just quit like last ye as soon as they would
- 1:26:48Speaker 17: have gone down, I think they might have just quit.
- 1:26:51Speaker 17: My question is kind of how do how does how
- 1:26:56Speaker 17: does our opensive coordinator get this team to a play
- 1:27:01Speaker 17: where we can use all our tools because we're not
- 1:27:03Speaker 17: using all our tools, but we don't have a lot
- 1:27:05Speaker 17: of great tools. We've got some good tools, and I
- 1:27:08Speaker 17: want to go great and I think the only way
- 1:27:10Speaker 17: the team can progress is to be able to use
- 1:27:12Speaker 17: all of them. And I'm not sure how you do
- 1:27:15Speaker 17: it with the system. You think you can go inside
- 1:27:17Speaker 17: a system or is he going to be forcing the
- 1:27:18Speaker 17: system onto the players have.
- 1:27:20Speaker 2: A good show. Well, I know there's two parts to that.
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: And not sure they quit last year. I think maybe
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: on offense maybe some guys, but not on defense certainly,
- 1:27:31Speaker 2: you know. And then the other part of it. I mean,
- 1:27:35Speaker 2: it's I can't answer that. I have no idea like
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: forcing the system onto them versus adjusting the system to
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: the players.
- 1:27:43Speaker 7: You know, I just kind of disagree with that whole notion,
- 1:27:46Speaker 7: not to like pick on Todd, but like, I don't
- 1:27:49Speaker 7: I don't feel like they're forcing players into a system.
- 1:27:53Speaker 7: Like every team has a system, so at some point
- 1:27:56Speaker 7: in time, you have to run a system. You not
- 1:28:00Speaker 7: going to just it's not Madden, Like we're not just
- 1:28:04Speaker 7: picking plays out of a make believe playbook and saying
- 1:28:08Speaker 7: this is what we're gonna run. Like every team has
- 1:28:10Speaker 7: a system that the players have to go out and
- 1:28:14Speaker 7: find out how to execute within their skill sets. So like,
- 1:28:17Speaker 7: I don't know, I feel like there's a lot of
- 1:28:19Speaker 7: that coming out of this game, where it's like, oh,
- 1:28:22Speaker 7: they're forcing the system onto the grip, like I they
- 1:28:25Speaker 7: got to execute better. Like it's that simple. Like the players,
- 1:28:29Speaker 7: like Josh McDaniels would not change his entire system, you
- 1:28:32Speaker 7: would tell them to execute it better.
- 1:28:34Speaker 3: No, you cannot like the system. I don't particularly care
- 1:28:37Speaker 3: for it, But I don't necessarily think that they need
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: to like alter everything to fit. Yeah to Mario Douglas.
- 1:28:44Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:28:44Speaker 7: That's my point too.
- 1:28:45Speaker 2: Nolan in California. As much as I wanted in thought
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: Drake would start week once, seeing how the season is unfolding,
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: with rookie quarterbacks struggling a bit, Jacoby doing a nice
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: job of protecting the ball and himself, I don't mind
- 1:28:58Speaker 2: this patient approach, especially since even with Drake, who is
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: to say, who is to say our record will be better?
- 1:29:05Speaker 2: Let's be patient.
- 1:29:06Speaker 5: I just I wonder when the patients will run out,
- 1:29:08Speaker 5: And that's you know, I'm patient right now.
- 1:29:10Speaker 4: But I just think it goes back to what we
- 1:29:13Speaker 4: were just talking about.
- 1:29:14Speaker 5: Is no one out there is anyone realistically saying Drake
- 1:29:16Speaker 5: May shouldn't even play this year.
- 1:29:18Speaker 2: Like that's where I draw, And that's the thing we
- 1:29:19Speaker 2: talked about, Like a lot.
- 1:29:20Speaker 3: Of people want that.
- 1:29:22Speaker 2: Let's let's not confuse playing Drake because we think the
- 1:29:26Speaker 2: record will be better. That's not why I want to
- 1:29:29Speaker 2: play Drake. I don't care about the record this year.
- 1:29:32Speaker 2: All I care about is the development of Drake May.
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: And if that means they won two games. But now
- 1:29:39Speaker 2: if they only win two games, that probably means they
- 1:29:41Speaker 2: didn't play that well. But I get it. But like
- 1:29:43Speaker 2: that's like what the record is to me right now
- 1:29:46Speaker 2: is secondary to the future. I just the future is
- 1:29:50Speaker 2: what I'm worried about right now.
- 1:29:51Speaker 3: I don't think it would matter much like I mean,
- 1:29:55Speaker 3: nobody you're gonna give yourself like that much better of
- 1:29:58Speaker 3: a chance or worse of a chance.
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: I don't want to. I don't want to play Drake
- 1:30:01Speaker 2: May now because I want a record to be better.
- 1:30:03Speaker 3: But like to Mike's point, I get the feeling there's
- 1:30:07Speaker 3: a lot of people now that are very content if
- 1:30:09Speaker 3: they don't see May at all this year, and I'm
- 1:30:11Speaker 3: not making listen.
- 1:30:12Speaker 2: I think that's growing.
- 1:30:13Speaker 3: But I say this all the time. I don't like
- 1:30:15Speaker 3: to tell people how they should feel. Like if that's
- 1:30:17Speaker 3: how you feel as a fan, then that's how you feel.
- 1:30:20Speaker 3: I just but I think there's a growing thing. Like
- 1:30:24Speaker 3: it was like a New England Twitter victory lap when
- 1:30:26Speaker 3: Bryce Young was announced to getting bench yesterday. See this
- 1:30:29Speaker 3: is why we're doing it the right way. Okay, like
- 1:30:32Speaker 3: that that's how you feel. So you don't want Drake
- 1:30:35Speaker 3: May to play it all this year? Right, That's because
- 1:30:38Speaker 3: that's basically what you're saying. And yeah, I again, I
- 1:30:43Speaker 3: don't tell people how they should feel. I just think
- 1:30:45Speaker 3: it's important to get him some experience.
- 1:30:47Speaker 7: Yeah, I selfishly want to see him play because it's
- 1:30:49Speaker 7: more exciting for us from selfishly ye through the rough.
- 1:30:52Speaker 7: But I'm with exactly what you just said. I just
- 1:30:56Speaker 7: want to see him get his feet wet at some
- 1:30:57Speaker 7: point this year so that he's not going into your
- 1:31:00Speaker 7: too completely inexperienced. Because I like to be positive and
- 1:31:06Speaker 7: think upbeat that Elliott Wolf in this personnel department is
- 1:31:09Speaker 7: gonna do their jobs. They're gonna do stuff the next offseason,
- 1:31:12Speaker 7: so they're gonna have a ton of cap space. They're
- 1:31:14Speaker 7: probably gonna have a pretty high draft pick. If this
- 1:31:17Speaker 7: offense has Will Campbell at left tackle and T Higgins
- 1:31:21Speaker 7: at receiver going into next season. I know that's lofty
- 1:31:24Speaker 7: to expect all that to fall into place, but something
- 1:31:26Speaker 7: along those lines. And now Drake May played the last
- 1:31:30Speaker 7: six eight games of the season and looked, Okay, now
- 1:31:33Speaker 7: you feel like you have some hope going into next
- 1:31:35Speaker 7: season like that. That's where I'm at, Like this is
- 1:31:38Speaker 7: not the finished product of what this offense is going
- 1:31:40Speaker 7: to look like when he's truly the entrench starter.
- 1:31:43Speaker 5: And I mean I've said up before too. It's that's
- 1:31:45Speaker 5: all great stuff too. And for me, it's starting starting
- 1:31:48Speaker 5: his story with the Patriots and going into you know,
- 1:31:51Speaker 5: whether it's probably not maybe going down to Miami or
- 1:31:54Speaker 5: having to go to Buffalo and getting the experience of
- 1:31:56Speaker 5: those games, those places. He's gonna have to play like
- 1:31:58Speaker 5: to get those out of the so next year it's
- 1:32:01Speaker 5: not all right his first time going to Miami or
- 1:32:03Speaker 5: his first time going to Buffalo. I'd like to get
- 1:32:05Speaker 5: those things out of the way now, start to establish that,
- 1:32:07Speaker 5: get you know, get his butt kicked by Buffalo, and
- 1:32:09Speaker 5: then you know he's motivated to come back and play.
- 1:32:12Speaker 5: So as much as it's like about the playbook and
- 1:32:14Speaker 5: understanding how game day goes and all those kind of things,
- 1:32:17Speaker 5: for me, it's it's about the story too and starting
- 1:32:19Speaker 5: that and starting to build Drake may up as the
- 1:32:21Speaker 5: guy who's going to dig you out of this hole.
- 1:32:23Speaker 2: Listen, no one said it was going to be easy, right,
- 1:32:25Speaker 2: but you know it's easy to know. It is bud Light,
- 1:32:28Speaker 2: it's easy to drink, it's easy to enjoy. Bud Light,
- 1:32:31Speaker 2: the official beer sponsor of the New England Patriots. And
- 1:32:36Speaker 2: are you looking to kick off your season with some
- 1:32:39Speaker 2: epic game day watch parties, we can't. I'm here become

- 1:33:02Speaker 2: hosting a full lineup of friends. You can even choose

- 1:33:11Speaker 2: can save when you dare to compare with Bob's Discount Furniture,
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: the official furniture store of the New England Patriots. Travis
- 1:33:19Speaker 2: in West Virginia writes in I'm not normally critical of
- 1:33:23Speaker 2: play calling, but the regular old handoff they did and
- 1:33:27Speaker 2: the first player overtime really annoyed me. Also, on the
- 1:33:30Speaker 2: postgame shows, Mike has been referring to the Good List
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: as the uplist. Can you please ask him to just
- 1:33:37Speaker 2: stick to the script and stop being all California progressive
- 1:33:42Speaker 2: about everything up, Bro, that's funny.
- 1:33:46Speaker 4: I didn't realize that the uplist.
- 1:33:48Speaker 3: Now, now it's going to be an airworm for me.
- 1:33:50Speaker 4: There we go all right, I like it.
- 1:33:53Speaker 3: Okay, I just wish we could do the good list,
- 1:33:57Speaker 3: the bad list, and the injured list without interruption.
- 1:34:00Speaker 2: Oh okay, that's a comment for the host.
- 1:34:04Speaker 5: Right, we got to the injured this week, though, that was.
- 1:34:08Speaker 3: We did have it. We had an we had an
- 1:34:10Speaker 3: injured list this week, unfortunately.
- 1:34:12Speaker 2: Yeah, uh spiin Fresno. Is it fair to blame the
- 1:34:15Speaker 2: defensive miscues on the lack of offense? The staff is
- 1:34:19Speaker 2: asked for the defense to carry the team for years. Eventually,
- 1:34:23Speaker 2: asking so much from the defense will be too much.
- 1:34:26Speaker 2: That said, Christian Gonzalez's coverage looks soft as a baby's bottom.
- 1:34:30Speaker 2: Sure he's a ballerina out there, but maybe it's time
- 1:34:33Speaker 2: to take off the tow two and press a guy.
- 1:34:36Speaker 7: I guess, I guess we just see two different guys
- 1:34:39Speaker 7: with Gonzales.
- 1:34:40Speaker 2: I'll just let him have his t what's the rebuttal
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: the tape?
- 1:34:44Speaker 7: Like, I just I'm just not really sure, but tell like,
- 1:34:48Speaker 7: like I mean, if you want to put the bust
- 1:34:50Speaker 7: on him, then like shore like, you can put the
- 1:34:52Speaker 7: coverage bust on him if you want to do that.
- 1:34:55Speaker 7: Play clearly the rest of the game he's on Metcalf
- 1:34:58Speaker 7: for the shadowing Metcalf all over the field and he
- 1:35:02Speaker 7: gives up I think it was three catches for like
- 1:35:05Speaker 7: twenty four yards against DK and coverage, Like do you
- 1:35:08Speaker 7: want him to press a guy that has twenty five
- 1:35:11Speaker 7: pounds on him and runs a four to three with
- 1:35:13Speaker 7: the game on the line in overtime, Like that's that's
- 1:35:16Speaker 7: the why strategy is to get up in his face
- 1:35:19Speaker 7: and then when he runs by him for a seventy
- 1:35:21Speaker 7: five yard touchdown to win the game, then we're all
- 1:35:23Speaker 7: gonna blame him for why was He's so aggressive on
- 1:35:26Speaker 7: the play, Like he was at a size disadvantage going
- 1:35:29Speaker 7: up against DK, so he played more offman in this
- 1:35:32Speaker 7: game than he has in the past. And I can
- 1:35:35Speaker 7: totally understand why, like make him run by you, Like
- 1:35:39Speaker 7: why would you just crowd him at the line of scrimmage,
- 1:35:42Speaker 7: let him throw you out the club and then go
- 1:35:44Speaker 7: up the field on you, Like that doesn't make any
- 1:35:46Speaker 7: sense to me. I just I don't know that I
- 1:35:49Speaker 7: get I'm ana he could call me all riled up,
- 1:35:51Speaker 7: but I just I just don't really see, like what
- 1:35:54Speaker 7: the nitpicks are with Gonzales Unless you want to sit
- 1:35:56Speaker 7: here and say that that he gave up the touchdown.
- 1:35:59Speaker 2: Well, I think what they.
- 1:36:00Speaker 3: Don't ever apologize to having a strong opinion about something
- 1:36:03Speaker 3: that's good stuff.
- 1:36:03Speaker 2: Well, well see, now, ball knowers might say what you're saying,
- 1:36:07Speaker 2: but the lay person might say, well, we didn't see
- 1:36:10Speaker 2: him break up passes.
- 1:36:12Speaker 7: He did break up a pass, well, he almost intercepted it.
- 1:36:14Speaker 3: He had a good player in a deep ball. But
- 1:36:17Speaker 3: I forget the Gonzales part of that. I just let
- 1:36:20Speaker 3: Evan handle that, which I like that stuff. More of that,
- 1:36:26Speaker 3: but the whole notion that the defense, you know, let
- 1:36:32Speaker 3: down by the offense, Well, the Patriots started the game,
- 1:36:35Speaker 3: they went three and oh second possession, they went down
- 1:36:38Speaker 3: the field and scored a touchdown, goes seven to nothing.
- 1:36:40Speaker 3: The response to that was to allow a fifty six
- 1:36:42Speaker 3: yard touchdown pass. So I'm sorry if you're not going
- 1:36:44Speaker 3: to blame that on the offense. Okay, now I'm not
- 1:36:49Speaker 3: getting into who's that fault. Clearly the fifty six yard touchdown.
- 1:36:53Speaker 3: Gonzales and Dugger both let the guy go. I don't
- 1:36:56Speaker 3: know who was at fault. I don't know if it
- 1:36:58Speaker 3: was the call. I think I heard them say something
- 1:37:01Speaker 3: about they weren't expecting a deep ball because they had
- 1:37:04Speaker 3: a pressure dialed up. They felt like the ball was
- 1:37:06Speaker 3: going to come out quicker than that. They they both
- 1:37:08Speaker 3: got caught peeking. It happens whatever, but it wasn't like
- 1:37:11Speaker 3: to me, there's a difference between a guy running down
- 1:37:14Speaker 3: the sideline with a guy in he's three steps behind
- 1:37:17Speaker 3: and gets beat. Nobody covered him. They both let him
- 1:37:20Speaker 3: go right now. That might have been one hundred percent
- 1:37:23Speaker 3: on Gonzales, might have been one hundred percent on Doug.
- 1:37:25Speaker 2: Was a physical it was mental.
- 1:37:26Speaker 3: But whatever, It wasn't a guy getting beat. It was
- 1:37:29Speaker 3: someone blowing an assignment. Whoever's fault it was right. So
- 1:37:32Speaker 3: I think that's different Dk Metcalf, it's a good player.
- 1:37:38Speaker 2: It's a good.
- 1:37:38Speaker 3: Player, like you're not. I know that people think that
- 1:37:42Speaker 3: it's Dion Sanders. It's not don't hold him to that standard.
- 1:37:45Speaker 3: It's not fair. It's not fair to Gonzales to say, like, well,
- 1:37:48Speaker 3: the other team's got a really good receiver. I'm going
- 1:37:50Speaker 3: to expect a zero out of him today.
- 1:37:52Speaker 2: It's not going to happen, right Tim our friend from Duncan,
- 1:37:56Speaker 2: he wants to know if he's the only one that
- 1:37:59Speaker 2: thinks that if Drake May had started, we would have
- 1:38:02Speaker 2: won that game, this game on Sunday.
- 1:38:06Speaker 3: Again, I don't know how other people feel.
- 1:38:09Speaker 2: No, well, do you think that if he had started
- 1:38:12Speaker 2: this game, he went every play?
- 1:38:14Speaker 3: But does every play go the way it was? Do
- 1:38:16Speaker 3: they call different plays? What happens if every play unfolds
- 1:38:19Speaker 3: the way it was? I think Drake May turns it
- 1:38:20Speaker 3: over three times. And personally a.
- 1:38:22Speaker 5: Rookie quarterback is a roller coaster anyway, So like, what
- 1:38:26Speaker 5: were the highs?
- 1:38:27Speaker 4: What were the lows?
- 1:38:27Speaker 5: I mean, we all probably say he might have thrown
- 1:38:30Speaker 5: the ball deep, he might have made one. He also
- 1:38:32Speaker 5: might have screwed up an easy one or you know.
- 1:38:34Speaker 3: There was one that Evan talked about in thousand percent
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: agree with him in the press box at the time
- 1:38:39Speaker 3: where he kind of present, kind of broke containment, rolled
- 1:38:42Speaker 3: out to his right up toward like the Patriots sideline,
- 1:38:45Speaker 3: and he threw one on the run I think, and
- 1:38:48Speaker 3: he threw it about five yards. May probably completes that.
- 1:38:52Speaker 3: It's a first down in a low red zone and
- 1:38:55Speaker 3: you're probably gonna get You're probably going to get more
- 1:38:56Speaker 3: points out of it. Instead they had to kick a
- 1:38:58Speaker 3: short field goal. Yeah, but if every play unfolded exactly
- 1:39:02Speaker 3: the same way. I find it awfully hard to believe
- 1:39:05Speaker 3: that a rookie wouldn't have turned the ball over under
- 1:39:07Speaker 3: those circumstances.
- 1:39:09Speaker 7: I would just Mike, you said it perfectly. If Drake
- 1:39:12Speaker 7: May was playing right now, it would be a roller coaster. Well,
- 1:39:14Speaker 7: he'd have They'd have five or six plays that I
- 1:39:17Speaker 7: would love to put on the on Twitter and be like,
- 1:39:19Speaker 7: look at this throw. Also have three picks? Yeah?
- 1:39:23Speaker 2: Would he have those picks? But would you also have plays.
- 1:39:26Speaker 3: Right like he might have? You remember the play that
- 1:39:28Speaker 3: that Bressett had to retreat like twenty yards and he
- 1:39:31Speaker 3: just like desperation, threw it off his back foot and
- 1:39:34Speaker 3: it floated and Henry caught it while sliding to the ground.
- 1:39:38Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:39:38Speaker 3: Otherwise it would have been a touchdown. Yeah, might have
- 1:39:41Speaker 3: been a touchdown if they did the same thing. Yeah,
- 1:39:43Speaker 3: might have been. Now he might I'm going to say
- 1:39:46Speaker 3: it would have been a sack because I don't think
- 1:39:49Speaker 3: May would have seen the pressure coming as quickly as
- 1:39:51Speaker 3: Presette did. Could be again, we don't know.
- 1:39:53Speaker 5: How about I'll just say this twenty twenty six, Drake
- 1:39:56Speaker 5: May definitely would have won that game for them, just
- 1:39:59Speaker 5: a perfect from two years from now.
- 1:40:01Speaker 4: He's got all the experience.
- 1:40:02Speaker 3: Say twenty six, Drake may better have won that game.
- 1:40:06Speaker 3: Otherwise we might be looking for a new guy.
- 1:40:11Speaker 7: Perfectly timed and designed leak call on the one to
- 1:40:16Speaker 7: Hunter Henry that absolutely would have been pants off in
- 1:40:20Speaker 7: the press box there were anywhere a touchdown and the
- 1:40:23Speaker 7: fact that they just can't block anybody and it took
- 1:40:26Speaker 7: it away from me. It just grinds out.
- 1:40:28Speaker 2: But you look at the all twenty two and I
- 1:40:32Speaker 2: mean Hunters out there and it's nothing.
- 1:40:35Speaker 7: But well, if you ask the people on Twitter, the
- 1:40:38Speaker 7: play that has been maybe one of the most indefensible
- 1:40:41Speaker 7: plays in football for five years, it's a design flaw
- 1:40:44Speaker 7: in the play. No, they just can't block anybody. Okay,
- 1:40:47Speaker 7: because every single Sunday the Green Bay Packers and the
- 1:40:49Speaker 7: forty nine ers run that play for touchdowns every single week.
- 1:40:53Speaker 7: But they have an offensive line and you don't like
- 1:40:55Speaker 7: that's the difference. It is awesome because they say, oh,
- 1:40:58Speaker 7: it's it's a design. We shouldn't be asking, you know,
- 1:41:02Speaker 7: the poler to come across and block the guy on
- 1:41:05Speaker 7: the edge. Yeah, and it's like, or how about he
- 1:41:08Speaker 7: gets there, like you know, it just I don't understand
- 1:41:11Speaker 7: that because every other team in the league can run
- 1:41:13Speaker 7: that play for big plays every single week, but the
- 1:41:17Speaker 7: Patriots can't run it, So it's Alex Van Pelts fault
- 1:41:20Speaker 7: and the play is poorly designed because they can't block it. Like,
- 1:41:25Speaker 7: I just how does that make any sense?
- 1:41:27Speaker 2: El from Wisconsin. Now, I know the stats are similar,
- 1:41:31Speaker 2: but I have a way different feeling about this team
- 1:41:33Speaker 2: versus last year. And I'll tell you why I like
- 1:41:36Speaker 2: this team. Last year, I was done with Bill after
- 1:41:39Speaker 2: the Patrician decision. I also didn't like pretty much anything
- 1:41:42Speaker 2: about Mac Jones from the moment he was drafted. It
- 1:41:45Speaker 2: wasn't a team I wanted to root for. Now, I
- 1:41:48Speaker 2: think there's a chance Thinks can get back to the
- 1:41:50Speaker 2: rails and it makes me happy. Secondly, to all the
- 1:41:53Speaker 2: people glad May isn't starting, I can't wait to see
- 1:41:56Speaker 2: him in three years when we hopefully have the forty
- 1:41:58Speaker 2: nine ers roster. Yeah, I don't understand.
- 1:42:02Speaker 3: I don't understand any of the last part. The first
- 1:42:04Speaker 3: part I totally understand. I think it's more likable because
- 1:42:08Speaker 3: I think Mac Jones was not likable. Yeah, I totally
- 1:42:13Speaker 3: get that mindset.
- 1:42:14Speaker 7: Yeah, I didn't feel that way about Mac, but I
- 1:42:17Speaker 7: like one of your guys, Jim Murray, that's like his
- 1:42:20Speaker 7: big take is that they don't have the grumpy old
- 1:42:23Speaker 7: coach and they don't have Mac Jones anymore so just
- 1:42:26Speaker 7: from a fans perspective, the product is just more likable.
- 1:42:29Speaker 3: And I can understand. Like, again, if you're telling me
- 1:42:33Speaker 3: it's a feel, then I agree because I feel the
- 1:42:37Speaker 3: same thing that you guys feel. I mean not telling
- 1:42:40Speaker 3: you that that's right because I agree with you, but
- 1:42:42Speaker 3: I'm saying as long as you're not talking about something tangible,
- 1:42:46Speaker 3: because it hasn't been all that different, But if you're
- 1:42:48Speaker 3: talking about like I just feel better about watching this
- 1:42:51Speaker 3: team because Poudy Mac isn't out there, you know, bitch
- 1:42:55Speaker 3: into his coach every other game and and Brissets out
- 1:42:59Speaker 3: there instead, Like I would agree the fact that to me,
- 1:43:02Speaker 3: the biggest thing is you have the third overall pick, Mike,
- 1:43:05Speaker 3: how did you put it?
- 1:43:06Speaker 4: Your best club still in the bag.
- 1:43:08Speaker 7: Your driver's still in the bag, Cameron.
- 1:43:11Speaker 3: That's huge golf. That's mentally to me that makes me
- 1:43:15Speaker 3: thank you. It has me far more engaged in this
- 1:43:19Speaker 3: season than I was at this time last year. When
- 1:43:23Speaker 3: you know, it was basically the same. They were one
- 1:43:25Speaker 3: and one but kind of done.
- 1:43:28Speaker 2: Did we ever about why when Mac was drafted that
- 1:43:35Speaker 2: there wasn't any talk about, well, we should probably sit
- 1:43:39Speaker 2: him for a little.
- 1:43:39Speaker 3: Bit, because he was deemed to be NFL ready.
- 1:43:43Speaker 2: Okay, that's a big part of it. That was it.
- 1:43:46Speaker 3: Plus everybody had seen Cam Newton nfore. Like if this
- 1:43:49Speaker 3: was like, let's let's let's say that we drafted Drake
- 1:43:52Speaker 3: Maye next year with the third overall pick and Brissette
- 1:43:55Speaker 3: plays this whole year, I don't think there'd be as
- 1:43:57Speaker 3: many people looking to say, let's be patient. Yeah, because
- 1:44:01Speaker 3: like Cam Newton had played at twenty twenty and everybody
- 1:44:03Speaker 3: saw I don't like that.
- 1:44:04Speaker 2: Yeah, there was.
- 1:44:04Speaker 7: Still also Bill was here, McDaniels was here. They just
- 1:44:09Speaker 7: spent a bunch of money in free agency on players,
- 1:44:12Speaker 7: and they still had some of that dynasty mystique on them.
- 1:44:16Speaker 7: I just feel like the roster was in the better
- 1:44:18Speaker 7: spot in general, at the very.
- 1:44:20Speaker 5: Least, we're all fooling ourselves into believing it was in
- 1:44:22Speaker 5: a better spot.
- 1:44:23Speaker 3: Well, they they were in a better spot than twenty one.
- 1:44:26Speaker 3: They had just gone in that free agent spending spree,
- 1:44:28Speaker 3: which always gives you the immediate bump followed by the
- 1:44:32Speaker 3: drop off, and that's exactly what.
- 1:44:33Speaker 2: Happened Johnson in Porters Lake Nova, Scotia. I'm tuning in
- 1:44:37Speaker 2: late to the show, and I'm in agreement with Paul's
- 1:44:39Speaker 2: take of not seeing Drake May right away. I only
- 1:44:42Speaker 2: want to see him if the production of the offense
- 1:44:44Speaker 2: drops and becomes hard to watch. Is that that's not
- 1:44:48Speaker 2: what you said, but I take it all with the
- 1:44:52Speaker 2: continued challenges on the old line. Do you see Cold
- 1:44:55Speaker 2: Strange immediately inserted in the starting lineup off the pup?
- 1:45:00Speaker 2: Will it take some time?
- 1:45:01Speaker 5: I don't think Michael Trun's been okay, Like it's probably
- 1:45:04Speaker 5: been one of their most consistent.
- 1:45:05Speaker 4: At this point.
- 1:45:06Speaker 5: I'll take anything, like I'll take anyone back into the mix,
- 1:45:09Speaker 5: like anyone who has some kind of pedigree.
- 1:45:11Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:45:11Speaker 4: I don't know what Cold Strange is going to be when.
- 1:45:13Speaker 5: He comes back, but at this point, you just need
- 1:45:15Speaker 5: bodies along the line. That's that's the biggest concern.
- 1:45:19Speaker 7: Yeah, I actually say Jordan, I mean, he's got his issues,
- 1:45:22Speaker 7: like he's a he doesn't have a great anchor, is
- 1:45:25Speaker 7: a little bit pushed around at times. But he's been
- 1:45:29Speaker 7: pretty solid for a guy that you just signed off
- 1:45:31Speaker 7: your practice squad, Like you don't really think of much
- 1:45:33Speaker 7: of those types of guys usually, and he's he's held
- 1:45:37Speaker 7: his own.
- 1:45:37Speaker 3: The only thing I would say, like, Jordan's not really
- 1:45:39Speaker 3: a practice squad guy. He's a new fangles. He's like
- 1:45:42Speaker 3: a fifty year guy. Right, yeah, So he's not a
- 1:45:45Speaker 3: guy that you're necessarily developing, right, He's a veteran that
- 1:45:47Speaker 3: you're stashed on the five.
- 1:45:48Speaker 2: Years ago he wouldn't be eligible right practice, right, Brendan,
- 1:45:52Speaker 2: do you think Drake May getting thirty percent of the
- 1:45:55Speaker 2: practice reps is contributing to our poor passing? Attack less
- 1:45:58Speaker 2: reps for Jacoby has to be affecting game day. Do
- 1:46:02Speaker 2: you think the locker room will eventually get mad that
- 1:46:04Speaker 2: their offense is not ready for game day due to
- 1:46:07Speaker 2: splitting reps.
- 1:46:10Speaker 3: I don't even know, man, I I can't.
- 1:46:13Speaker 5: I mean, if it's that much of an effect that
- 1:46:15Speaker 5: I just I think it's a good thing. I think
- 1:46:17Speaker 5: the fact that they're still continuing to focus on Drake
- 1:46:19Speaker 5: May again reference Evan's piece that he wrote, I mean,
- 1:46:22Speaker 5: he's staying active behind the scenes.
- 1:46:24Speaker 4: That's that's the most important thing.
- 1:46:25Speaker 5: I don't cho Kobe Presett's the veteran and I mean,
- 1:46:27Speaker 5: and even you said, I know there's some you know,
- 1:46:30Speaker 5: it's unclear exactly when these thirty percent reps are. But
- 1:46:33Speaker 5: if those are on first and second down days, I
- 1:46:35Speaker 5: don't you know, most of those are gonna be handoffs anyways,
- 1:46:37Speaker 5: I don't know. I just I mean, third down, red zone,
- 1:46:41Speaker 5: those from Thursday Friday, those are those are the money
- 1:46:43Speaker 5: down days.
- 1:46:43Speaker 4: Those are the gotta have it moments.
- 1:46:45Speaker 7: You know, it's it's critinly their base offense stuff, like
- 1:46:48Speaker 7: they're not they're not doing a whole lot on first
- 1:46:51Speaker 7: and second down that they don't do every single week,
- 1:46:53Speaker 7: Like the game plan stuff, third down red zone. You know,
- 1:46:56Speaker 7: there's gotta have in situations. And like, I'm not saying
- 1:47:00Speaker 7: that Gerrod's lying when he says thirty percent, but if
- 1:47:03Speaker 7: it's thirty percent because he took half the reps on
- 1:47:06Speaker 7: a Wednesday and then takes like none of the reps
- 1:47:08Speaker 7: on Thursday and Friday, that that sort of thing is
- 1:47:11Speaker 7: a little bit different when it comes to that kind
- 1:47:13Speaker 7: of game plan stuff.
- 1:47:14Speaker 3: I think we're caught up in the semantics of it.
- 1:47:15Speaker 2: I agree, let's go to the TPX hotline. Eldred's in
- 1:47:19Speaker 2: North Carolina. What's up, Eldred?
- 1:47:22Speaker 9: Hey fellows, tell y'all doing to day?
- 1:47:23Speaker 3: Okay, Taylor, hey Evan, love you man.
- 1:47:27Speaker 9: I agree with you too.
- 1:47:28Speaker 16: But I've been staying it what you say.
- 1:47:30Speaker 9: At the beginning of the show.
- 1:47:31Speaker 17: I've been staying it for about ten years, right, Paw.
- 1:47:34Speaker 9: Why you let the slowest guy runs the reverse or
- 1:47:37Speaker 9: the receiver go deep on a go route and you got.
- 1:47:41Speaker 16: Some fast guys.
- 1:47:42Speaker 9: I could never understand that.
- 1:47:45Speaker 7: I Eldred, I, for the life of me, cannot figure.
- 1:47:47Speaker 2: Out what the element of surprise?
- 1:47:49Speaker 7: What what is Taekwon Thorton doing here? If it's not
- 1:47:52Speaker 7: to do stuff like that? Like why is he on
- 1:47:54Speaker 7: the roster if he's not gonna take end a rounds
- 1:47:58Speaker 7: and run verticals and like that, do that sort of thing.
- 1:48:01Speaker 7: Otherwise he's just just running wind sprints out there for
- 1:48:04Speaker 7: four quarters.
- 1:48:05Speaker 10: It.
- 1:48:05Speaker 2: I don't get it, all right, I'll get off fired up.
- 1:48:13Speaker 5: I didn't Again, I didn't have a chance to watch
- 1:48:15Speaker 5: the film like I like to do. How what was
- 1:48:17Speaker 5: Techon toward? Like I didn't even clock him once in
- 1:48:19Speaker 5: that game other than when he lined up in the
- 1:48:21Speaker 5: backfield on that the.
- 1:48:26Speaker 2: Eye candy play.
- 1:48:27Speaker 7: I kind of liked it, to be honest with you,
- 1:48:31Speaker 7: I did it just didn't They didn't block it well
- 1:48:33Speaker 7: on the interior. But you know, by by having taekwon
- 1:48:37Speaker 7: there and and it's basically option football at that point,
- 1:48:39Speaker 7: like old school wing tea stuff. By having him back there,
- 1:48:43Speaker 7: it held the backside of the formation because if if
- 1:48:45Speaker 7: everybody crashes inside, then Jacoby is just gonna flip it
- 1:48:48Speaker 7: out to him and he's gonna have nothing but green
- 1:48:50Speaker 7: grass out there. So I actually liked the fact that
- 1:48:52Speaker 7: they added that little window dressing in there. They just
- 1:48:54Speaker 7: didn't block it well.
- 1:48:55Speaker 5: What but but what what they pull back on thward
- 1:48:58Speaker 5: this week? Or like where I need I mean again,
- 1:48:59Speaker 5: I frame a reference.
- 1:49:02Speaker 7: Just a couple of times I thought he had a
- 1:49:05Speaker 7: decent release of the line of scrimmage, but for the
- 1:49:08Speaker 7: most part he got blanketed.
- 1:49:10Speaker 2: Nixon, New Hampshire, what's up? Nick? Nick? Nick? In New Hampshire,
- 1:49:18Speaker 2: Nick going once twice, three times? You're gone? Matt Is
- 1:49:25Speaker 2: in Des Moines, what's up, Matt?
- 1:49:28Speaker 9: Hey? I just wanted to double check on the overtime.
- 1:49:33Speaker 9: On the last drive we had a fourth and one
- 1:49:36Speaker 9: were any of these surprised that we didn't go for
- 1:49:38Speaker 9: it because we hadn't stopped the other team in the
- 1:49:42Speaker 9: last drives. And so I'm just serious, if that was
- 1:49:45Speaker 9: kind of a surprise to you guys, if they didn't
- 1:49:48Speaker 9: go for it, I'll take it off.
- 1:49:49Speaker 2: Okay, thanks Matt.
- 1:49:51Speaker 4: I wasn't really that surprised.
- 1:49:53Speaker 3: I wasn't surprised. I think that that's a call in
- 1:49:55Speaker 3: overtime that basically you're you're making the game come down
- 1:49:58Speaker 3: to one play, get it, and you still have a shot.
- 1:50:01Speaker 3: You miss it, you probably ended the game from your
- 1:50:04Speaker 3: own thirty nine yard line. And by the way, I
- 1:50:07Speaker 3: would say it worked, you got a good punt, you
- 1:50:12Speaker 3: get them at the sixteen yard line, you should be
- 1:50:14Speaker 3: able to get the ball back right, you know, And
- 1:50:17Speaker 3: instead they went right down the field, down the field.
- 1:50:21Speaker 7: Yeah, it just I think nine you're basically in the
- 1:50:23Speaker 7: field goal range.
- 1:50:25Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying.
- 1:50:26Speaker 2: It's a one play game. It's a one yeah, you know.
- 1:50:29Speaker 3: And I would say, you know, back and I know
- 1:50:31Speaker 3: Evan gave a lot of reasons why he liked the
- 1:50:34Speaker 3: Taekwon throwton in the backfield. I just think it's your
- 1:50:37Speaker 3: identity is something that you've said ad nauseum since you
- 1:50:41Speaker 3: took over of what you want to be. So is
- 1:50:44Speaker 3: that the time that we're going to say, well, we're
- 1:50:46Speaker 3: going to see if we can run this play and
- 1:50:48Speaker 3: hold the backside end with the thread of an option
- 1:50:51Speaker 3: pitch or do you just want to line up and
- 1:50:54Speaker 3: put you you know what's on the table and tell
- 1:50:56Speaker 3: everybody you can't stop us because this is the kind
- 1:50:58Speaker 3: of team that we're going to be. And by the way,
- 1:51:01Speaker 3: that was pretty successful throughout the day. Lining up and
- 1:51:04Speaker 3: running the ball was pretty successful.
- 1:51:06Speaker 7: But they.
- 1:51:08Speaker 3: Didn't even line up properly. It really annoyed that play
- 1:51:11Speaker 3: annoyed me in a lot of ways.
- 1:51:13Speaker 7: But they really did just run it right at him,
- 1:51:15Speaker 7: Like it wasn't like it was like some dipsy do
- 1:51:17Speaker 7: run where they like had Jacoby running like a triple
- 1:51:20Speaker 7: option out on.
- 1:51:22Speaker 3: The I know, but like it was it was a
- 1:51:24Speaker 3: different formation than that they've seen. They didn't even line
- 1:51:26Speaker 3: up right, like they screwed it up.
- 1:51:29Speaker 7: That part of it's fair.
- 1:51:30Speaker 3: I just why we split in the atom, just line
- 1:51:34Speaker 3: up and get a yard.
- 1:51:35Speaker 2: If they could call it your playpole one cloud of you.
- 1:51:43Speaker 4: On one.
- 1:51:43Speaker 7: I definitely remember Dante Scarneki has say more than once,
- 1:51:46Speaker 7: if you can't pick up a yard for the game,
- 1:51:49Speaker 7: then you're not very good on offense like that. You know,
- 1:51:51Speaker 7: that's that was his whole thing, But.
- 1:51:53Speaker 2: That's the mentality. You have to have hat on a hat,
- 1:51:57Speaker 2: right on a hat. I'm better than you.
- 1:52:02Speaker 3: They ran gap, but just I was disappointed. I was
- 1:52:05Speaker 3: disappointed with that play.
- 1:52:07Speaker 2: Jacket and Abba. What if the Patriots had signed quarterback
- 1:52:11Speaker 2: Baker Mayfield last offseason and then drafted a left tackle
- 1:52:14Speaker 2: in the first round. Wouldn't wouldn't he said, the Patriots
- 1:52:18Speaker 2: be a vastly better team right now.
- 1:52:20Speaker 7: He was not available, So I don't know why we're
- 1:52:22Speaker 7: talking about that. Let's say, let's say they have gears
- 1:52:26Speaker 7: all right now, It's okay, you can It's not your fault.
- 1:52:28Speaker 3: Would they be Cousins? Would they be a vastly better
- 1:52:31Speaker 3: team if they had Baker Mayfield or Kirk Cousins? I
- 1:52:35Speaker 3: don't think so, and and a real I don't think so.
- 1:52:39Speaker 3: I think he'd be better. I think though, both of
- 1:52:41Speaker 3: those guys are better than Jacoby Brissett. And obviously, if
- 1:52:44Speaker 3: you had Joe Alt instead of Vederian Lowell playing left tackle,
- 1:52:49Speaker 3: your line would be better. I don't think your team
- 1:52:50Speaker 3: would be vastly superior. I think you'd still have everything
- 1:52:54Speaker 3: else that you have. Rick, what do you think? No, No,
- 1:52:57Speaker 3: I was gonna say.
- 1:53:00Speaker 12: Saree we should have signed him or no this this
- 1:53:03Speaker 12: year you had a chance to like that then everything
- 1:53:05Speaker 12: you said.
- 1:53:05Speaker 3: Both of those guys were free agents.
- 1:53:08Speaker 5: No, I just I mean what tickled me was just
- 1:53:10Speaker 5: I don't know tickle me was that should have been
- 1:53:12Speaker 5: the move for Bill last year?
- 1:53:14Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:53:14Speaker 9: Like?
- 1:53:14Speaker 5: I mean, did you think you were gonna salvage mac
- 1:53:16Speaker 5: like based on how things were going after twenty twenty two? Like,
- 1:53:19Speaker 5: I know that that to me him or I think.
- 1:53:21Speaker 2: The bigger point from Jack and and Abba is are
- 1:53:24Speaker 2: we are we a quarterback and a left tackle away
- 1:53:28Speaker 2: from being vastly better?
- 1:53:30Speaker 3: If your quarterback is really good, maybe you could say that.
- 1:53:35Speaker 3: I don't think Kirk Cousins and Baker Mayfield are in
- 1:53:38Speaker 3: that stratosphere. Okay, I think they're both middlers. Okay, now
- 1:53:43Speaker 3: you want to give me Chris Godwin and Mike Evans.
- 1:53:46Speaker 3: With Baker Mayfield, that's a different story. But he's still
- 1:53:49Speaker 3: throwing to Damario Douglas. Taypwon Thornton and kJ Osborne.
- 1:53:52Speaker 2: Okay, Rick and Newburyport. Thirty years ago today, Drew Bledsoe
- 1:53:58Speaker 2: had his shoulder separated by Ken Norton Junior in San Francisco,
- 1:54:02Speaker 2: and on that same day, Patrick Mahomes was born. So, okay,
- 1:54:07Speaker 2: you don't say you never learned anything thirty years ago?
- 1:54:12Speaker 4: Ninety four?
- 1:54:13Speaker 3: How much?
- 1:54:14Speaker 4: How much time do you miss on that one?
- 1:54:16Speaker 2: Oh?
- 1:54:16Speaker 3: Wait a minute, it was ninety four, No, ninety three, except.
- 1:54:20Speaker 4: Thirty years right.
- 1:54:21Speaker 7: I was very confused. I thought we were talking about
- 1:54:24Speaker 7: ninety one five he did what?
- 1:54:27Speaker 4: So it was twenty nine?
- 1:54:30Speaker 2: Nicholas in Oslo, Norway, Norway.
- 1:54:32Speaker 3: I'm a little upset with myself. I don't remember.
- 1:54:35Speaker 2: Okay, what do you think?
- 1:54:38Speaker 3: I thought he hurt his shoulder in ninety five.
- 1:54:43Speaker 2: Thirty years ago. Today would be ninety four. It would
- 1:54:47Speaker 2: have to be ninety four.
- 1:54:49Speaker 3: I don't think he got hurt in ninety four.
- 1:54:51Speaker 2: Okay, maybe Brick and Newburyport. Check your check your math.
- 1:54:55Speaker 3: I think he played all sixteen games in ninety four
- 1:54:58Speaker 3: through for four thousand.
- 1:54:59Speaker 2: Five thirty I could be watching. What am I doing about?
- 1:55:03Speaker 3: He threw about five yards.
- 1:55:06Speaker 2: Valuable all twenty two times going down the drain.
- 1:55:09Speaker 3: Poor Mike. He can't even watch I couldn't watch it.
- 1:55:12Speaker 7: I'll get situated.
- 1:55:13Speaker 5: He couldn't be No, No, I like to watch it,
- 1:55:18Speaker 5: but I'm not as good like Tom Paul can watch
- 1:55:20Speaker 5: the whole game and he remembers everything like I watch it.
- 1:55:22Speaker 4: It's all one ear out graphicmer.
- 1:55:24Speaker 2: I don't know why. I get you have a photographic memory.
- 1:55:28Speaker 3: I don't think so, No, but maybe I don't know.
- 1:55:31Speaker 3: Maybe I do. I don't really know the definition of that.
- 1:55:33Speaker 2: Like you can look at something and remember it.
- 1:55:35Speaker 3: But like everything.
- 1:55:36Speaker 7: No, but he's watching the this is not a shot,
- 1:55:39Speaker 7: like it's just a different way of watching the game.
- 1:55:41Speaker 7: Like he that you're great at at seeing the game.
- 1:55:45Speaker 7: I'm great at seeing like leak right, like you know.
- 1:55:50Speaker 3: And then that's being great at something and not caring
- 1:55:53Speaker 3: about it. I would fall into the latter end.
- 1:55:55Speaker 7: Yeah, but that's like what that's why I types of things. Yeah,
- 1:56:00Speaker 7: I think you're leading. No, you're in the same category
- 1:56:03Speaker 7: as him.
- 1:56:03Speaker 2: I don't see it like he does.
- 1:56:04Speaker 7: No, But when we're on the road together, like you'll
- 1:56:06Speaker 7: point out things that like my brain is like lost
- 1:56:09Speaker 7: in like what freaking run scheme they're running? And like
- 1:56:12Speaker 7: you'll just.
- 1:56:15Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I'm.
- 1:56:19Speaker 9: Like.
- 1:56:19Speaker 3: I'm but I you know, I do it out of love.
- 1:56:22Speaker 3: He is, he's interested in the schematics of of of plays.
- 1:56:26Speaker 3: And I'm just telling you that guy's a good player
- 1:56:29Speaker 3: and he won that battle, he won that matchup or whatever,
- 1:56:31Speaker 3: and I want this guy on my team because he's
- 1:56:32Speaker 3: better than that guy. And I'm just telling you what worked.
- 1:56:35Speaker 3: And Evan's telling you why, Yeah, I like that, So
- 1:56:41Speaker 3: I mean there's a difference. There is a difference. I
- 1:56:43Speaker 3: need the.
- 1:56:43Speaker 7: Paul like Trags was that for me at the beginning,
- 1:56:46Speaker 7: and someone that that brings me back to see the
- 1:56:49Speaker 7: forest for the trees is important because when you're in
- 1:56:51Speaker 7: the weeds, you're in you lose it.
- 1:56:52Speaker 5: There's no All twenty two version of Paul with penalties
- 1:56:57Speaker 5: and situational.
- 1:56:58Speaker 4: Football like those are your like you're good at those.
- 1:57:01Speaker 3: Like I didn't like the decision to decline that penalty
- 1:57:03Speaker 3: and set up a third and six instead of a
- 1:57:05Speaker 3: second and thirteen, Like I do the math in my
- 1:57:08Speaker 3: head what that one?
- 1:57:10Speaker 7: Like that it was announced as a third and eight
- 1:57:13Speaker 7: and Paul's yelling.
- 1:57:15Speaker 16: And six.
- 1:57:18Speaker 3: That don't you think there's a difference there like third
- 1:57:20Speaker 3: and six is very manageable. Third, I'm like, right, and
- 1:57:27Speaker 3: then they were going to kick it. Like to me,
- 1:57:28Speaker 3: it's just like, I'll tell you what else bothered me
- 1:57:31Speaker 3: about that? And this is not this is not about
- 1:57:33Speaker 3: the Patriots. This is about the officials, which is my
- 1:57:35Speaker 3: favorite thing to make fun of. Why are they just
- 1:57:38Speaker 3: automatically saying that they took the penalty like you got
- 1:57:41Speaker 3: to ask right, right, because then they came back on
- 1:57:46Speaker 3: later they had to respot the ball and then no, no, no,
- 1:57:50Speaker 3: the Patriots have opted to decline the penalty. Well maybe
- 1:57:53Speaker 3: ask next next time? Will you like it?
- 1:57:55Speaker 4: When you see the reflicate the sidelines, you're like, they
- 1:57:57Speaker 4: give that little.
- 1:57:58Speaker 3: I don't mind if you do that, but don't don't
- 1:58:01Speaker 3: announce the penalty. Mark the yardage off. Then go check
- 1:58:05Speaker 3: with the coach and see if he wants it, which
- 1:58:07Speaker 3: is what happened.
- 1:58:07Speaker 2: All right, one more call than a show. It's Melvin
- 1:58:11Speaker 2: and Texas.
- 1:58:12Speaker 3: What's up?
- 1:58:12Speaker 2: Melvin?
- 1:58:14Speaker 16: Hey, so correct me if I'm wrong, because I'm out
- 1:58:16Speaker 16: of market, so I didn't need the game, but I
- 1:58:19Speaker 16: heard the caster say that Baker had lined up, and
- 1:58:22Speaker 16: I was just wondering, how did Baker create any separation
- 1:58:25Speaker 16: when he was in, and also, how did Kayden Wallace
- 1:58:28Speaker 16: do a little bit of time that he was in?
- 1:58:31Speaker 2: Okay, thanks Melvin Javon.
- 1:58:33Speaker 7: Baker played like a small handful of snaps that I
- 1:58:35Speaker 7: would not. I think he ran like two routes.
- 1:58:38Speaker 3: I was gonna say, I think they ran the ball.
- 1:58:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:58:40Speaker 3: I think he played six plays and I think most
- 1:58:43Speaker 3: of those were running.
- 1:58:44Speaker 2: My my take with Wallace is I thought he did
- 1:58:47Speaker 2: pretty well when he was in as that extra lineman.
- 1:58:51Speaker 3: What five plays?
- 1:58:51Speaker 2: Yeah, but he does he did well, and but I
- 1:58:53Speaker 2: don't think he did well when he had to come
- 1:58:56Speaker 2: in after Low came out.
- 1:58:58Speaker 7: So they, uh, they clearly trust him to run block.
- 1:59:02Speaker 7: That's why he's the tackle eligible or they called it
- 1:59:05Speaker 7: a muscle tight end, muscle tight, muscle tight, but they
- 1:59:10Speaker 7: don't trust him.
- 1:59:11Speaker 3: Heart was the muscle tight end.
- 1:59:13Speaker 2: But why can't we just create it an eligible tackle.
- 1:59:15Speaker 2: That's what he wants, muscle tight.
- 1:59:17Speaker 7: I heard muscle tight end and I liked it that.
- 1:59:21Speaker 3: But he didn't. Yeah, I mean part of it was
- 1:59:23Speaker 3: the way the game unfolded. They didn't get to do
- 1:59:24Speaker 3: it as much as they did. He played eleven plays,
- 1:59:28Speaker 3: but some of those were as a left tackle. Yea,
- 1:59:30Speaker 3: so maybe eight yeah.
- 1:59:33Speaker 4: Them Thursday night.
- 1:59:34Speaker 2: I bet this this could be his coming out party
- 1:59:37Speaker 2: for it coming out not all right, that's gonna be
- 1:59:41Speaker 2: it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered. We'll be back
- 1:59:44Speaker 2: tomorrow at noon, and we'll have to do picks tomorrow
- 1:59:48Speaker 2: because of the Thursday game and the team traveling. Uh
- 1:59:52Speaker 2: so we won't care.
- 1:59:53Speaker 3: We're gonna do it a little earlier in the show
- 1:59:55Speaker 3: that we normally do because yeah, Evan and Fred need
- 1:59:57Speaker 3: to to jet.
