- 0:04Speaker 2: Say Hester and Hester.
- 0:06Speaker 1: From carrying each other to and Natty to carrying each
- 0:11Speaker 1: other on the air control live from the Mercedes Benz
- 0:18Speaker 1: Baton Rouge studio.
- 0:20Speaker 2: It's off the bench, walking.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Back in now number three, O TV one, O four five,
- 0:36Speaker 3: ESPN Baton Rouge. Let's go ahead and go to the
- 0:39Speaker 3: phone lines. Now, all right, guy Nick Underhill, New Orleans
- 0:42Speaker 3: Dot Football joins us to break it all down.
- 0:45Speaker 4: Nick, what's going on?
- 0:45Speaker 5: Man?
- 0:45Speaker 4: How you doing great?
- 0:47Speaker 3: How you guys doing doing fantastic? So go ahead and
- 0:49Speaker 3: tell us who the starting quarterback is.
- 0:52Speaker 5: Man, I don't know. I want to hear you guys.
- 0:55Speaker 5: Who do you guys got?
- 0:56Speaker 6: All right?
- 0:57Speaker 4: All right, so I'll give you my breakdown.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Okay, they both have moments, they both kind of and
- 1:02Speaker 3: Matt and I were just talking about during the break
- 1:03Speaker 3: you kind of flip the preseason games.
- 1:05Speaker 4: It's kind of the same thing, right.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Tyler came in the first game look really good in
- 1:09Speaker 3: the second half of a preseason game. Same thing for
- 1:11Speaker 3: Spencer in this last game. Here is why I think
- 1:14Speaker 3: that Spencer Ratler should be the starting quarterback. This is
- 1:17Speaker 3: going to be an off schedule team. When you look
- 1:19Speaker 3: at the troubles they've had on the interior of their
- 1:22Speaker 3: offensive line, it is going to be chaotic. And I think,
- 1:26Speaker 3: now this isn't fair necessarily to Tyler Shuck, but Spencer
- 1:29Speaker 3: Rattler plays better with chaos around him than Tyler Shuck does,
- 1:33Speaker 3: and I just think there's going to be a lot
- 1:34Speaker 3: of chaos, and so I think the race is tight.
- 1:37Speaker 3: I think they both give you something. They offer something
- 1:39Speaker 3: that could help you win games. But I think because
- 1:42Speaker 3: of what I'm expecting to be in front of Spencer
- 1:46Speaker 3: Rattler or whoever the Saints quarterback is, I would go
- 1:48Speaker 3: with Spencer Ratler because I think he can make more
- 1:51Speaker 3: off schedule plays than Tyler Shuck.
- 1:54Speaker 5: Yeah. I think the best thing that Spencer does, I
- 1:57Speaker 5: think is that fearlessness too. Like he will he would
- 2:00Speaker 5: stand in the middle of a highway and get hit
- 2:02Speaker 5: by a semi to get a pass off, like he'll
- 2:04Speaker 5: just like totally stretch out that that porso just take
- 2:07Speaker 5: a big hit in the ribs and fire the ball
- 2:09Speaker 5: in there. And I think that's the best thing he does.
- 2:12Speaker 5: You know, I think one thing that's gonna help that offense.
- 2:14Speaker 5: But like whenever McCoy's out there, like it's gonna look
- 2:16Speaker 5: way different. And I'm not making a public defense of
- 2:20Speaker 5: scujar Ruizer, but there's a lot of stuff I've seen
- 2:22Speaker 5: on like sociale Lame vot eminem When you go through
- 2:24Speaker 5: the film, it's it's like, actually Simpkins like make it
- 2:26Speaker 5: up a lot of mistakes. So I think when McCoy
- 2:29Speaker 5: gets out there, that was quite a bit too. I
- 2:33Speaker 5: still believe it's the same thing I said last week,
- 2:35Speaker 5: and I thought this game was a was a further
- 2:37Speaker 5: uh further evidence of it. They very very very clearly
- 2:42Speaker 5: want Tyler Shuffel in this battle, Like they give him
- 2:44Speaker 5: the two receivers they they put they let him, you know,
- 2:47Speaker 5: finish the whole half, like they absolutely want him to
- 2:51Speaker 5: be the guy. I don't know which direction it goes.
- 2:54Speaker 5: I think if I were making the decision, I would
- 2:57Speaker 5: probably come up with the plan right now where I
- 3:00Speaker 5: would give Spencer the first four games and let it
- 3:03Speaker 5: go from there. My expectation would be, and I'm speaking
- 3:06Speaker 5: as if I'm their coach, not like myself, like they
- 3:09Speaker 5: dropped to Chuck. They want Chuck to play. They want
- 3:11Speaker 5: him to get most of the games. They want to
- 3:12Speaker 5: evaluate him. They think he has a chance to be
- 3:15Speaker 5: their future. They made that decision with Rattler on their team,
- 3:17Speaker 5: like they want it to go that way. I think
- 3:20Speaker 5: they'd be open minded the new new information. Obviously, my
- 3:23Speaker 5: plan right now, if I were the coach of the team,
- 3:25Speaker 5: I would say, all right, I'm gonna get Spencer Arizona,
- 3:28Speaker 5: Sam fran Seattle and Buffalo, knowing that those games are
- 3:32Speaker 5: probably gonna be really, really hard and at the end
- 3:35Speaker 5: of it, you know that that could be something where
- 3:37Speaker 5: you're owing four and complete and fifty two percent of
- 3:40Speaker 5: your passes have you know, twice as many interceptions as touchdowns,
- 3:44Speaker 5: and you are in a very bad spot. I would
- 3:47Speaker 5: give those the Spencer, knowing that my guy like is
- 3:50Speaker 5: staying clean from that, gets a chance to come in
- 3:52Speaker 5: and maybe not go through that gauntlet and have a
- 3:55Speaker 5: clean start in week five, maybe some of the Lloyd's
- 3:58Speaker 5: to silence. But on the other end of Spencer goes
- 4:00Speaker 5: through that and he excels like there you go like
- 4:03Speaker 5: you got great information, and you keep them in there
- 4:06Speaker 5: and you let them keep rolling. But that would probably
- 4:07Speaker 5: be my plan at the beginning of it. I think
- 4:09Speaker 5: it's I really do think it's a coin flip. I
- 4:12Speaker 5: hate to be a prisoner of the moment. The deciding
- 4:14Speaker 5: factor for me would be, like basically what you were saying,
- 4:18Speaker 5: Spencer is is better in chaos, and in chaos. We've
- 4:21Speaker 5: seen Tyler Shuck like kind of like flit the ball away,
- 4:24Speaker 5: and we've seen him do that in a training camp
- 4:27Speaker 5: practice and I thought that was his worst moment of camp.
- 4:30Speaker 5: And if you go to his college film and there's
- 4:31Speaker 5: one of those where he kind of puts it away
- 4:33Speaker 5: and it turns into a pick six, like it's a
- 4:35Speaker 5: thing he does. I would assume they've reconciled that in
- 4:39Speaker 5: their mind that like, this isn't a huge deal right now.
- 4:43Speaker 5: I think it's one of those things where if you
- 4:46Speaker 5: don't fix it, it ends up defining who you are
- 4:47Speaker 5: as a quarterback. But they must think that they can
- 4:50Speaker 5: fix it. But for me, that would be the deciding
- 4:53Speaker 5: factor right now, Like it just feels like Spencer's more
- 4:56Speaker 5: more in a in a spot where he can kind
- 4:58Speaker 5: of handle some really nasty, top ugly stuff and you know,
- 5:03Speaker 5: Shuck kind of flicked the ball away, and like that's
- 5:06Speaker 5: it's not a it's not a break point for me
- 5:08Speaker 5: right now, Like it's way too early to be talking
- 5:10Speaker 5: like that, but like it's something that's on that list
- 5:11Speaker 5: of things that's like you can't let this keep out,
- 5:13Speaker 5: Like that has to change like immediately, and we've seen
- 5:17Speaker 5: it twice now since he's been there.
- 5:18Speaker 6: Well, Rattler is has shown to be better with chaos
- 5:24Speaker 6: around him, but Shucks certainly hasn't shown that he's better
- 5:27Speaker 6: than Rattler in a pocket. With a clean pocket. I
- 5:30Speaker 6: think they've both been pretty good at going through their reads.
- 5:33Speaker 6: Their completion percentage has been pretty good. They've run the offense,
- 5:37Speaker 6: but things are going to break down. We just don't
- 5:39Speaker 6: have the personnel the roster to have it look clean
- 5:42Speaker 6: every single play. Nobody does. So I guess I want
- 5:46Speaker 6: to kind of go back to, like what is the
- 5:47Speaker 6: what's what's the basis of thinking, like they want Shuck
- 5:52Speaker 6: to be the quarterback? What like why why do you
- 5:54Speaker 6: think that they are want to push that? And I
- 5:58Speaker 6: guess the statement like they desperately want him to be
- 6:01Speaker 6: the starting.
- 6:01Speaker 5: Guy, Well I would have worried desperately, but I mean yeah,
- 6:05Speaker 5: I mean yeah. On April on April twenty fifth, twenty
- 6:10Speaker 5: five at six PM, they had Spencer Ratler on their
- 6:14Speaker 5: roster and they decided at like you know, six forty
- 6:16Speaker 5: five pm to draft Tyler Shuck and said, this is
- 6:19Speaker 5: our guy, and that's the fortieth pick in the draft.
- 6:21Speaker 5: And you could have used that pick to draft a
- 6:23Speaker 5: wide receiver that you need. You could have used that
- 6:25Speaker 5: pick to draft the tight end that you need. They decided, no,
- 6:28Speaker 5: this guy is the guy that's going to give us
- 6:30Speaker 5: a better chance to win. Knowing that Derek Carr was
- 6:32Speaker 5: leaving their building. So basically they were looking at it
- 6:35Speaker 5: right there at that moment, like who's going to give
- 6:37Speaker 5: us the best chance of start in the game. And
- 6:40Speaker 5: I think you know that that's my interpretation of it.
- 6:43Speaker 5: I mean, I think they they decided that they could
- 6:45Speaker 5: get a better player than Rattler. And you know, you
- 6:49Speaker 5: don't draft the left tackle if if you feel good
- 6:51Speaker 5: about your left tackle. And I know it's a little
- 6:54Speaker 5: bit of a different position, but you know, they could
- 6:56Speaker 5: have very easily made a decision, Hey, we're going to
- 6:58Speaker 5: get a wide receiver to to support Spencer. We're gonna
- 7:02Speaker 5: go out, We're gonna get a veteran backup, a non
- 7:04Speaker 5: threatening veteran backup to put behind him that can you know,
- 7:08Speaker 5: maybe help mentor this room or whatever and go that way.
- 7:11Speaker 5: But they made the decision that we're gonna go all
- 7:13Speaker 5: young guys. It's one of these guys is gonna win.
- 7:16Speaker 5: And I think every single every single thing we've seen
- 7:20Speaker 5: is kind of been sacking the back toward giving him
- 7:22Speaker 5: the more advantageous situations to succeed in the preseason. And
- 7:27Speaker 5: if they didn't have a lean towards Tyler's shop, I would,
- 7:31Speaker 5: you know, from my role where I would have to
- 7:33Speaker 5: sit back and say, like, what are you guys doing?
- 7:35Speaker 5: Like why would you draft this guy and not try
- 7:38Speaker 5: to post an environment for him to succeed If you
- 7:40Speaker 5: identified him, well the quarterback that's gonna fit your system.
- 7:44Speaker 6: I think they if they knew Derek Carr is not
- 7:46Speaker 6: going to be here, then that leaves Spencer Rattler and
- 7:51Speaker 6: your roster with j canor you have to pick somebody, right,
- 7:53Speaker 6: you got to pick somebody. You're not gonna You're not
- 7:55Speaker 6: gonna pick somebody in the seventh round. You got to
- 7:57Speaker 6: pick a good quarterback to fill and get more talent
- 7:59Speaker 6: because you don't really know. But I would think if
- 8:01Speaker 6: they want. If they push it, they would have more
- 8:03Speaker 6: of the reps, like skewed toward Shuck, like he would
- 8:07Speaker 6: have gotten the majority of the reps. Right, I think
- 8:09Speaker 6: it's I feel like it's been pretty even. It's been
- 8:11Speaker 6: really even. In the preseason games at least we were
- 8:13Speaker 6: talking about it, like the production from Rattler and Shucks
- 8:17Speaker 6: was like mirror images of each other. I think Game
- 8:20Speaker 6: one and Game two, Uh, you know the I thought
- 8:23Speaker 6: Chuck and Rattler when they started both started the games.
- 8:25Speaker 6: I thought they did some move the off worked the
- 8:28Speaker 6: offense well, good completion percentages made to all the throws
- 8:32Speaker 6: they were supposed to. And then when they also came
- 8:35Speaker 6: in as a second guy in each of the games,
- 8:37Speaker 6: they threw for more yards, they each got two minute situations,
- 8:40Speaker 6: they had more opportunities, they each threw a pick, they
- 8:42Speaker 6: each had an explosive play. Like I think they were
- 8:45Speaker 6: merely mirror images of each other. So I think they've
- 8:47Speaker 6: done a good job, and I think we can all
- 8:48Speaker 6: agree that as to this point, now they're gonna like
- 8:51Speaker 6: whoever the quarterback is going to have time. They got
- 8:53Speaker 6: to go win games. But to this point, like quarterback
- 8:56Speaker 6: is not the issue on this team or for this offense.
- 8:59Speaker 6: So tell me, like, what what is what have you sayen?
- 9:03Speaker 6: Where can they improve?
- 9:04Speaker 1: Like?
- 9:04Speaker 6: Is there improvement to be made with this offense from
- 9:07Speaker 6: a protected standpoint, from a running game standpoint, run blocking?
- 9:12Speaker 5: Yeah, well, real quick, I don't disagree, Like I think
- 9:14Speaker 5: that it's been a pretty pretty fair battle. I just
- 9:16Speaker 5: think there's like a couple of little things in there
- 9:18Speaker 5: that that lead board that like getting the two minute
- 9:21Speaker 5: drill against the rams and the draining practice at the end, uh,
- 9:23Speaker 5: spencer ding, get those reps like he you know, he's
- 9:26Speaker 5: on the sideline next to Hayter. Uh, you know, going
- 9:28Speaker 5: through practice. It's about thirty more passes for for thirty
- 9:31Speaker 5: more reps, probably for shock. I could give you the
- 9:33Speaker 5: exact number, but you know later. But he was up
- 9:36Speaker 5: a little bit. But it's a splight. There's just like
- 9:38Speaker 5: a slight little like all right, we're gonna give him
- 9:40Speaker 5: an a lave a lave in Rashid and we're not
- 9:43Speaker 5: going to give those guys the spencer. But we'll see
- 9:45Speaker 5: what happens in game three. I mean, I think they
- 9:47Speaker 5: need to get a dress rehearsal, you know, bigger issues
- 9:49Speaker 5: on offense, Man it's it's I mean it's not inferior line, right,
- 9:52Speaker 5: I mean like that's yeah, that's uh, that's not good,
- 9:55Speaker 5: like kind of going out isn't isn't good. I think
- 9:58Speaker 5: that's that's a huge issue. I mean it's a turf
- 10:01Speaker 5: tole injury. Rookie year he had the same thing. He
- 10:03Speaker 5: misses eleven games with it. I mean, that's a giant
- 10:06Speaker 5: human with like recurring foot problems. Like it's it's at
- 10:09Speaker 5: least something that that's a little bit worried some you know,
- 10:13Speaker 5: I think Caesar needs to play way better. You know,
- 10:16Speaker 5: I think the like I think Banks has been awesome though,
- 10:18Speaker 5: Like he went against you know there Walker and uh
- 10:22Speaker 5: what is it now, hind Island six times in that
- 10:24Speaker 5: game in Passcoral won all six reps. Like, had a
- 10:26Speaker 5: really good game there. You know, I think Suaga was
- 10:29Speaker 5: a little bit messy, but like, yeah, I mean, I
- 10:32Speaker 5: just I just think their offense is underpowered just kind
- 10:34Speaker 5: of kind of overall, and you know, a lot I
- 10:37Speaker 5: dropped in that pass is weird. That's not something I'm
- 10:39Speaker 5: gonna like expect going into the season. But you know,
- 10:42Speaker 5: I just think I think there's some little details and
- 10:43Speaker 5: stuff too. That they gotta they gotta kind of work
- 10:45Speaker 5: out and you know, it's just been uh, I don't know,
- 10:50Speaker 5: like it was just a very flat performance, I thought
- 10:53Speaker 5: coming out into that game, and I thought, you know,
- 10:56Speaker 5: I think it's a fair criticism that in the post
- 10:58Speaker 5: game speech, like they played the video on Twitter and
- 11:01Speaker 5: Colin Mars like, oh, we gotta be ready to come
- 11:03Speaker 5: out here and play it like practice at six pm
- 11:06Speaker 5: every day every day leading into the game. Like, I
- 11:08Speaker 5: don't know, moved that up a little bit. I think
- 11:10Speaker 5: those are like little things that they got to, you know,
- 11:12Speaker 5: work out, and they'll go through and figure out and
- 11:15Speaker 5: get evidence and you know, learning and adjusting all that stuff.
- 11:17Speaker 5: But I think, just like overall that there is probably
- 11:19Speaker 5: gonna be a little bit of a learning process for
- 11:23Speaker 5: everybody in that building going through year one.
- 11:25Speaker 3: Catching up with a guy Nick Underhill, New Orleans Dot
- 11:28Speaker 3: Football here on OTB. All right, let's get away for
- 11:31Speaker 3: a little bit from the quarterback position, and what did
- 11:34Speaker 3: you think about the running back rotation week number one?
- 11:37Speaker 3: In the preseason, they had nowhere to go. There was
- 11:41Speaker 3: a couple of better situations this game. Not certainly not
- 11:47Speaker 3: where you wanted to be, but there were some running
- 11:49Speaker 3: backs out there making plays, and even Clyde there in
- 11:51Speaker 3: the last portion of the game made a couple of
- 11:53Speaker 3: nice catches, made some you know, some runs. He's hitting
- 11:57Speaker 3: people on the sideline, getting upfield and getting you know,
- 12:00Speaker 3: kind of fired up there.
- 12:01Speaker 4: Like where do you have the running back battles right now?
- 12:05Speaker 5: I feel like I comfortably have my four, Like I
- 12:07Speaker 5: think it's Alvin hendre Uh, Clyde, and in Bayless, and
- 12:13Speaker 5: it seems like they want Cam like they're getting Cam Akers,
- 12:16Speaker 5: you know, the higher reps now. But like he had
- 12:18Speaker 5: a bad snap and passport, and I feel like Clyde
- 12:20Speaker 5: just like keeps getting better at that camp goes on
- 12:23Speaker 5: and it's not something that's always done like a strength
- 12:26Speaker 5: of his game, but like you can can tell he's
- 12:27Speaker 5: really working at it, and it seems like he's picking
- 12:30Speaker 5: stuff up really well. Cam Akers has like a real,
- 12:33Speaker 5: real good practice against the Rams, maybe one of the
- 12:35Speaker 5: only guys coming out of there that I felt like
- 12:37Speaker 5: great about how he played that day. But like I
- 12:41Speaker 5: just feel like Clyde's making more plays there and I
- 12:42Speaker 5: think that's where they need like help, Like that hasn't
- 12:45Speaker 5: been a big strength of that Alvin's game. Obviously, it's
- 12:48Speaker 5: not something that that Kendra does well, not yet at
- 12:51Speaker 5: least I haven't seen anything from from Bayless to suggest
- 12:55Speaker 5: that he could do it. But I want him on
- 12:57Speaker 5: the team just like he just looks so explosives every
- 13:00Speaker 5: time he touches the ball. It's like somebody that could
- 13:02Speaker 5: be like a home run hitter. And that's just like
- 13:05Speaker 5: another element of speed you can get on the field
- 13:07Speaker 5: with all these other guys that are just like straight
- 13:09Speaker 5: up burners. Uh, you know, one of those guys gets
- 13:11Speaker 5: a little bit of space, like there's home run potential.
- 13:14Speaker 5: I like him in that role, you know, with Devin
- 13:16Speaker 5: neil Or he's just kind of out of sight, out
- 13:18Speaker 5: of mine right now. Eventually he probably finds his way
- 13:21Speaker 5: on there somewhere. And you know, maybe Clyde's the guy
- 13:24Speaker 5: that you initially cut and put on the practice squad
- 13:26Speaker 5: and use as an elevation early in the season. Events
- 13:29Speaker 5: stn him or something. But there's different ways run it.
- 13:31Speaker 5: But like, yeah, I'm taking Clyde ahead of Camp Bakers say. Now,
- 13:34Speaker 5: I just feel I would just feel more confident with
- 13:38Speaker 5: him standing next to you know, Rattler. Shuck shuck, rattler
- 13:41Speaker 5: on third down than than any of those other guys.
- 13:44Speaker 6: All right, how about our guy Mason Tipton on this roster.
- 13:52Speaker 5: I think you got to keep him. If you caught him,
- 13:56Speaker 5: someone's taking him. I mean that's usually with the math
- 13:58Speaker 5: ends up being and all a lot of times, you know,
- 14:01Speaker 5: I think when you're too close to the team, you
- 14:03Speaker 5: end up over eight and people like you like they
- 14:05Speaker 5: can't cut, like Padilla, someone's going to claim him. And
- 14:08Speaker 5: then like Faddill Diggs gets through to the practice squad
- 14:10Speaker 5: like ninety nine out of one hundred times, like Tipton's
- 14:13Speaker 5: getting claimed like he's he's just made way too many plays.
- 14:16Speaker 5: It's way too loud, you know. I like the way
- 14:18Speaker 5: that he responded to a little bit of you know, adversity,
- 14:21Speaker 5: took the blame for the interception, came back, you know,
- 14:25Speaker 5: makes huge plays down the stretch. I really really like
- 14:29Speaker 5: the way that he's playing. He played like this last
- 14:31Speaker 5: year in training camp too, and then got hurt and
- 14:34Speaker 5: you know, the last staff just didn't really like I
- 14:36Speaker 5: don't know, there was always just like difficulties. I think
- 14:39Speaker 5: for young players to get opportunities to make their mark,
- 14:42Speaker 5: I mean that's that's a stark difference I think between
- 14:44Speaker 5: these guys. And and then like I don't think that
- 14:47Speaker 5: you see Danny Stetsman wearing the green dot in the
- 14:50Speaker 5: first preseason game. You know, with the previous staff and
- 14:53Speaker 5: these guys, do you know it's a college staff kind
- 14:55Speaker 5: of especially on defense, a lot of development. You know
- 14:59Speaker 5: a lot of guys that have you know, just hot
- 15:02Speaker 5: guys and brought them up and they kind of trust
- 15:03Speaker 5: what they're seeing. And you know, I think, especially early on,
- 15:06Speaker 5: there's there's not a fear of you know, going to
- 15:09Speaker 5: younger proving guys because like your job's not on the linee.
- 15:12Speaker 5: You don't feel like, you know, well, if I go
- 15:14Speaker 5: to this young guy and he makes a mistake, he's
- 15:15Speaker 5: gonna get me tired. Like you can absorb some of
- 15:17Speaker 5: that early on, I said, have to say that, like
- 15:19Speaker 5: I think Tippson's gonna get real opportunities, and I don't
- 15:22Speaker 5: know that he got a ton of them last year
- 15:24Speaker 5: even with all the injuries. Uh, And it seems like, yeah,
- 15:27Speaker 5: I think he's got to be on the team. And
- 15:29Speaker 5: I mean, I know, you got three other guys that
- 15:31Speaker 5: have four four speed, but there's another one you put
- 15:34Speaker 5: Bayless shows in there running but like it could be
- 15:36Speaker 5: a track meet out there, Like there are probably times,
- 15:38Speaker 5: like you know, there's gonna probably be some exciting place.
- 15:41Speaker 5: He had one against the Rams, like ran like a
- 15:43Speaker 5: little shallow cross cuts it up the field, had a
- 15:46Speaker 5: sixty yard touch on it and it was like a
- 15:48Speaker 5: real play. Nobody like getting range to hit him. So
- 15:52Speaker 5: I like the home run hitting ability. I like the
- 15:54Speaker 5: fact that they got two three, four guys that could
- 15:56Speaker 5: probably turn a checkdown into a touchdown. Like I like him.
- 16:00Speaker 5: I think he has to be on the team.
- 16:02Speaker 4: Nick.
- 16:03Speaker 3: So much conversation has been about the offense. I mean,
- 16:05Speaker 3: it's kind of what we've done the first sixteen minutes here,
- 16:08Speaker 3: But the defense, when you look at the two preseason games,
- 16:11Speaker 3: I mean, if you put the total yards giving up
- 16:13Speaker 3: two forty eight three thirty seven, so only two hundred
- 16:16Speaker 3: and ninety two yards per game here in the first
- 16:19Speaker 3: two games. I mean, look, I know that Jacksonville and
- 16:22Speaker 3: they're you know, opening series. The first two series with
- 16:25Speaker 3: their starters went right down the field. But there's been
- 16:27Speaker 3: a lot to like, I think about this defense that
- 16:29Speaker 3: we're not talking about because we're so worried about the
- 16:31Speaker 3: offense of the New Orleans Saints.
- 16:34Speaker 5: Yeah, I think they got a chance will probably be
- 16:36Speaker 5: better than expected. They got like real depth. I think,
- 16:40Speaker 5: you know, the inferior toss of lion spots strading Collin
- 16:43Speaker 5: Saunders for a backup center, which I think is you know,
- 16:48Speaker 5: I don't know that I love the center, like he
- 16:50Speaker 5: had a tough time in Jacksonville, but I like, you know,
- 16:53Speaker 5: they got to have somebody by McCoy's miss like I
- 16:55Speaker 5: don't I don't even know what it was like seventeen
- 16:57Speaker 5: games over the last four years or something like that,
- 16:59Speaker 5: so important. But yeah, I think the defense is a
- 17:01Speaker 5: chance to be better than we expected coming into the season.
- 17:05Speaker 5: You know, I think day after day they've looked good
- 17:08Speaker 5: in camp. You know, I think they're probably not as
- 17:10Speaker 5: good as they look in this camp because they're gonna
- 17:12Speaker 5: you know, I think there's some inflation going against the
- 17:14Speaker 5: softfense obviously, but they seem very organized, They seem very energized.
- 17:19Speaker 5: That feels like, you know, the details are all on point.
- 17:23Speaker 5: And I think more importantly, man like there's just like
- 17:25Speaker 5: a I don't want to like use a corny word here,
- 17:29Speaker 5: but like there's like a joy back on that side
- 17:31Speaker 5: of the ball with those players that I think was
- 17:32Speaker 5: missing the last couple of years. I think there's a
- 17:34Speaker 5: lot of frustration, but with how things were going, especially
- 17:37Speaker 5: last year, some of the staff changes in that uh
- 17:40Speaker 5: Todd Grantham, like the guys on the d line, Like
- 17:42Speaker 5: I've never heard people like speak out about a coach
- 17:45Speaker 5: the way those guys talk about him, which I mean
- 17:47Speaker 5: it's uh that there's like some some intensity to the
- 17:51Speaker 5: uh to the hate like on that guy. But yeah,
- 17:54Speaker 5: I mean I think this. I think these guys like
- 17:57Speaker 5: just feel good about what they're doing and I think
- 17:59Speaker 5: that matters. Like I think they're they're happy to play.
- 18:02Speaker 5: You know, there's a there's like a closeness actually too,
- 18:05Speaker 5: like with that that secondary you know, that safety group,
- 18:08Speaker 5: like they're they're just always around each other, the courn
- 18:10Speaker 5: like all those guys getting along. I don't know, I
- 18:12Speaker 5: just it just it just feels like they might get
- 18:16Speaker 5: everything out of what they have, like just because of
- 18:19Speaker 5: of where they're at, you know. And I think they're
- 18:21Speaker 5: gonna stop the run a lot better too. Like Godshaw
- 18:23Speaker 5: is like a real player, probably one of the better
- 18:27Speaker 5: one of the guys that I that I probably feel
- 18:28Speaker 5: best about coming out of this camp. You know, the
- 18:32Speaker 5: Alante Taylor being out is the only the only reservation.
- 18:35Speaker 5: But like, I look at how they're using like Ugo
- 18:38Speaker 5: Amadi in these games, and like I just keep like imagine,
- 18:40Speaker 5: like if that's a Lante out there, and you got
- 18:42Speaker 5: a little bit more speed and a little bit more
- 18:44Speaker 5: strength and a little bit more explosiveness like this last game,
- 18:47Speaker 5: like Ugo was like all over the place, and you know,
- 18:49Speaker 5: you just put Alte in there, and I think there's
- 18:52Speaker 5: gonna be a lot of plays made there too. So yeah,
- 18:55Speaker 5: I think that, uh, I think I got of everything.
- 18:57Speaker 5: Like I feel way more encourage about that side of
- 19:00Speaker 5: the ball, and I think I think they're a legitimate
- 19:03Speaker 5: spot for optimism. And like on top of all that,
- 19:06Speaker 5: it feels like they got a real player off the
- 19:09Speaker 5: street the day before camp starts enjoying Blackman like he's
- 19:13Speaker 5: just he's made it kind of plays. He seems to
- 19:14Speaker 5: fit really really well. So yeah, it feels like there's
- 19:18Speaker 5: a little bit of a you know, if you're looking
- 19:19Speaker 5: at both sides of the ball, it feels like that
- 19:21Speaker 5: there's a little bit more of a foundation on defense
- 19:23Speaker 5: right now. And I'm definitely encouraged by them, and uh yeah,
- 19:26Speaker 5: I'm optimistic about it. I think, like, you know, within
- 19:29Speaker 5: the parameters of you know, their talent level, but I
- 19:32Speaker 5: feel good about like what they're building over there.
- 19:34Speaker 6: And I think when we look at training camp up
- 19:36Speaker 6: to this point for the Saints, so you can it's
- 19:38Speaker 6: easy to get kind of lost in the quarterback battle,
- 19:40Speaker 6: easy to get lost in like talking about different personnel.
- 19:43Speaker 6: But I feel like one question we don't hear a
- 19:45Speaker 6: lot or hear talked about, is like, what about the
- 19:47Speaker 6: job that Kellen Moore is doing as a brand new
- 19:49Speaker 6: head coach first time being. I'm sure there's like there's
- 19:52Speaker 6: there's learning curves, there's mistakes made, there's things that he
- 19:56Speaker 6: is doing for the first time, but like can you
- 19:58Speaker 6: great or rank like, but his job, the job that
- 20:01Speaker 6: he's done up to this point, as far as like
- 20:04Speaker 6: you know, with the battles and the rotations and managing
- 20:06Speaker 6: schedules and managing like inner squad practices things like that,
- 20:10Speaker 6: what the what would you rank his job up to
- 20:12Speaker 6: this point?
- 20:14Speaker 5: It's a It's a good question because I think I think,
- 20:17Speaker 5: especially like a quarterback and then you know, with the
- 20:20Speaker 5: personalities involved and all that and you have to remember
- 20:22Speaker 5: like everything Rattler's been through in his journey to get
- 20:25Speaker 5: here and how things happen with like Caleb Williams, Like
- 20:28Speaker 5: he's someone that could probably very easily and I like,
- 20:31Speaker 5: I don't want to be on par projecting like thoughts
- 20:34Speaker 5: and emotions on somebody, but he's probably somebody that could
- 20:36Speaker 5: very easily feel scorned. You know, there's probably some some
- 20:41Speaker 5: PTSD residual stuff, like how different things have played out
- 20:45Speaker 5: in his career. And I don't think anybody could look
- 20:48Speaker 5: at this again, there's like two or three little more
- 20:50Speaker 5: Like we've spent fifteen minutes dissecting it and it comes
- 20:53Speaker 5: down to like two or three little things within it.
- 20:56Speaker 5: I don't think that anyone could really say that this
- 20:59Speaker 5: battle hasn't been hands with some degree of fairness. And
- 21:03Speaker 5: you can't really sit back and be like angry about this,
- 21:06Speaker 5: because I think that's a tough situation to manage, and
- 21:08Speaker 5: I think he's done a really good job with it.
- 21:11Speaker 5: It's two young guys at the beginning of their careers
- 21:13Speaker 5: who probably feel like the way to the world is
- 21:16Speaker 5: on the outcome of this. I mean, I bet you know,
- 21:20Speaker 5: if you're a quarterback in that battle and you feel
- 21:22Speaker 5: like you lose this battle, there's probably an element of, like,
- 21:24Speaker 5: you know, you feel like am I ever going to
- 21:26Speaker 5: get a chance again?
- 21:27Speaker 6: And all.
- 21:27Speaker 5: So, like, I think he's done a good job of
- 21:29Speaker 5: mitigating a lot of like jealousy and all that stuff
- 21:31Speaker 5: like that. You don't see it. You don't hear it either,
- 21:35Speaker 5: And you know, I've covered the league long enough that like,
- 21:38Speaker 5: you know, you you hear things like you know, when
- 21:42Speaker 5: things aren't going well and there's anger and there's there's
- 21:46Speaker 5: jealousy and all that stuff like it usually makes its
- 21:49Speaker 5: way over there. Like I haven't heard anything yet, So
- 21:51Speaker 5: I think that he's managed that well.
- 21:53Speaker 6: You know.
- 21:54Speaker 5: I think the veteran players like he's done a great
- 21:56Speaker 5: job of getting them to buy in all I can
- 21:59Speaker 5: do compared a few situations. And it's crazy to say
- 22:02Speaker 5: this because like DA had been around forever and it
- 22:05Speaker 5: seemed like he should have been their guy. The way
- 22:08Speaker 5: people talk about Calum Moore is vastly different than how
- 22:11Speaker 5: they were talking about DA through the first month of
- 22:14Speaker 5: his tenure. And we haven't seen any fireworks at all anywhere,
- 22:18Speaker 5: But last time it was I don't know, ten days
- 22:21Speaker 5: into it and granted it's a tough personality, but like
- 22:24Speaker 5: you have like Chauncey Gardner Johnson starting all kinds of
- 22:27Speaker 5: stuff like him not getting along with it. You know,
- 22:31Speaker 5: you go through some of the interviews from those very
- 22:33Speaker 5: first oka and you got people asking players, hey, like
- 22:37Speaker 5: do you what do you think about DA getting this job?
- 22:39Speaker 5: And it's like very luke warm or like even something
- 22:41Speaker 5: like like yeah, I'm not going to comment on that,
- 22:43Speaker 5: and like it's I don't know if that was like
- 22:45Speaker 5: a Sean Payton thing, don't want to take sides against somebody,
- 22:47Speaker 5: but it was. It was definitely weird, like there is
- 22:50Speaker 5: not weirdness right now, which you know havn't gone through
- 22:53Speaker 5: this just a couple of years ago. I think that's
- 22:55Speaker 5: a very a very good sign on you know, the
- 22:57Speaker 5: buy in the culture all that stuff. Now. You know,
- 23:02Speaker 5: I've only covered parcels type coaches, Bill Belichick, Sean Payton,
- 23:05Speaker 5: you know DA's from that that branch. The way they
- 23:08Speaker 5: handle practice in the time aspect of it is very
- 23:11Speaker 5: very jarring, Like there's a major element of like culture shock,
- 23:16Speaker 5: Like they've had two practices that went over ninety minutes.
- 23:19Speaker 5: They take every third day off, like that's definitely different
- 23:22Speaker 5: to me. I don't know what the impact of that is.
- 23:24Speaker 5: I'm guessing, you know, as I asked around, it sounds
- 23:27Speaker 5: like that's how the Eagles and the Rams and you
- 23:29Speaker 5: know some of these these younger you know, younger organizations
- 23:34Speaker 5: with younger coaches that I think they just probably think
- 23:35Speaker 5: about time efficiency differently. And you know, we'll see what
- 23:38Speaker 5: the outcome of that is and if it adjusted all
- 23:40Speaker 5: in your two or whatever. But I mean, the buy
- 23:43Speaker 5: in is significantly different, I think, than than what it
- 23:46Speaker 5: was when Das was over there.
- 23:49Speaker 3: He is our guy, Nick Underhill, New Orleans dot Football,

- 26:35Speaker 3: I'm not just talking about hero on o TV. I'm
- 26:36Speaker 3: talking about the station, the state, anybody that talks the
- 26:40Speaker 3: new or media.
- 26:41Speaker 6: Yes, no doubt, journalistic integrity.
- 26:44Speaker 4: Yes, I've always said that about us.
- 26:46Speaker 6: Uh huh.
- 26:47Speaker 4: We're so worried about the offense. And I understand it. Offense.
- 26:51Speaker 4: We all knows the superior side of the football. Duh
- 26:54Speaker 4: that we all get that.
- 26:55Speaker 3: Uh but the defense actually has played well, like no,
- 27:02Speaker 3: I mean to what to what we thought it was
- 27:05Speaker 3: going to be. And they don't even have like their
- 27:06Speaker 3: full starters in there. Yeah, I got that, Sue. I
- 27:09Speaker 3: think the starters did go one for one. Yeah, and
- 27:12Speaker 3: then starts against backups. Well they want one for two
- 27:15Speaker 3: because they fumbled and you could say, well they were driving, Okay, well.
- 27:17Speaker 4: Don't fumble it. It's football.
- 27:20Speaker 3: But I think the experience too that you're got, I mean, look,
- 27:23Speaker 3: two hundred and ninety two yards. It's pretty good that
- 27:25Speaker 3: it's preseason, but I mean Jacksonville plays their starters for
- 27:29Speaker 3: a couple of series, they play their one B starters
- 27:33Speaker 3: for a couple series after that, and you only give
- 27:35Speaker 3: up three hundred and thirty seven yards, So you give
- 27:37Speaker 3: up two ninety two a game, and like the right now,
- 27:41Speaker 3: the experience that you're getting, like a dandy Stutsman wearing
- 27:44Speaker 3: the green dive in the middle of that defense, I
- 27:47Speaker 3: do think that it is going to pay off for
- 27:49Speaker 3: them now. I would like to see the starters get
- 27:52Speaker 3: some action, certainly uh in the last preseason game, because look,
- 27:56Speaker 3: you don't, you can't.
- 27:58Speaker 4: You don't want to roll out there cold and I
- 28:00Speaker 4: get and you got an older defense.
- 28:01Speaker 3: I understand all that, but I do think you're getting
- 28:04Speaker 3: some good experience for some young players that I'm actually
- 28:06Speaker 3: pretty excited about.
- 28:08Speaker 6: Well, the Jacksonville Jaguars, they I feel like Juguars Jaguars.
- 28:13Speaker 6: I feel like they are gonna be pretty Yeah, I
- 28:17Speaker 6: feel like they're gonna be pretty dangerous here. But they're
- 28:19Speaker 6: kind of like a a souped on like a depth perspective,
- 28:23Speaker 6: They're like a souped up version of the Saints. Like
- 28:24Speaker 6: they're really good and they got some really good talents
- 28:27Speaker 6: and pieces on their one deep, Like you start digging
- 28:31Speaker 6: into the backups, there's still a giant like it's they
- 28:33Speaker 6: haven't been a perennial like good team. So like they
- 28:35Speaker 6: they're dealing with them, they're just dealing with better starters
- 28:38Speaker 6: on a roster standpoint. So once you start rotating backups
- 28:41Speaker 6: in for the Jaguars, uh yeah, at that point, yeah,
- 28:47Speaker 6: they're they're their movement of the ball is not gonna
- 28:51Speaker 6: be quite as good. So I mean that helped a lot.
- 28:54Speaker 6: That helped the Saints a lot.
- 28:55Speaker 3: Look, you're I mean, you're going against first round pick
- 28:57Speaker 3: and ETN you're going against the number one overall pick
- 28:59Speaker 3: in Trevor Lawrence like two drives, Well, you acting like
- 29:07Speaker 3: that one that they turn the ball over doesn't count.
- 29:08Speaker 6: I don't remember that. It was the first drive that
- 29:11Speaker 6: I saw Trevor just dicing them up and scoret Well.
- 29:14Speaker 4: I mean that actually should happen.
- 29:17Speaker 3: But the experience that you're getting your guys right now,
- 29:20Speaker 3: like Christian boys getting some great experience.
- 29:22Speaker 6: Uh, I can't you know, you gotta gotta chill a
- 29:27Speaker 6: little negativity.
- 29:28Speaker 4: No, I mean, buddy, there's negative.
- 29:32Speaker 6: Blowing a lot of sunshine.
- 29:33Speaker 3: I'm just saying the defense doesn't get talked about, and
- 29:36Speaker 3: I think they are right now getting some really good
- 29:39Speaker 3: experience that is going to pay off.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Now.
- 29:41Speaker 3: I need to see I need to see the old guys.
- 29:43Speaker 3: I need to see the vets. They need to get
- 29:45Speaker 3: some play in the last preseason game.
- 29:47Speaker 6: Yeah, no, little w d forty on them knees, those ankles,
- 29:50Speaker 6: Get the shoulder warmed up a little bit, get a
- 29:52Speaker 6: couple series in, get some live hitting. For sure. You
- 29:55Speaker 6: have to.
- 29:56Speaker 3: I mean that traditionally, even especially with a new defense.
- 29:58Speaker 3: This is a completely new style of defense.
- 30:01Speaker 6: Yep, yeah, you have to, like this is the game.
- 30:04Speaker 6: I mean Traditionally, when it was four preseason games, the
- 30:06Speaker 6: third game of preseason was the one where the starters
- 30:09Speaker 6: would play. A lot of games, a lot of teams
- 30:12Speaker 6: will play into the third quarter with the starters, so
- 30:15Speaker 6: that would see by far their most action. Then they'd
- 30:17Speaker 6: get the fourth game to where they wouldn't hardly play
- 30:20Speaker 6: at all. So now you get a complete week off.
- 30:23Speaker 6: You don't have that fourth preseason game. I would expect
- 30:26Speaker 6: the Saints to play a lot of starters and all.
- 30:28Speaker 6: I mean they have to.
- 30:29Speaker 3: You had to get some sort of warm up, like
- 30:32Speaker 3: you said, I mean, you got Brandon Saley, got a
- 30:34Speaker 3: new defense, new it's going to be completely different, Like
- 30:38Speaker 3: the scheme's going to be completely different.
- 30:40Speaker 6: There's no reason not to play. And it's not like
- 30:41Speaker 6: you're trying to keep them healthy because we're going to
- 30:43Speaker 6: make Super Bowl run or anything like you know, like
- 30:48Speaker 6: Joe Burner, don't play him, Maybe don't play him, Joe,
- 30:50Speaker 6: just go down.
- 30:53Speaker 4: Also like Jayden had a hell of a run that
- 30:56Speaker 4: ended in the end zone.
- 30:57Speaker 6: I'm like, they'll get a keep that stat you washed away.
- 31:03Speaker 4: I can appreciate he has one speed.
- 31:08Speaker 6: In score.
- 31:10Speaker 3: That he did right, you are, that's why he got
- 31:13Speaker 3: the first ever BMF belt that LSU gave out after
- 31:17Speaker 3: his performance against Missouri.
- 31:21Speaker 6: And that he is.
- 31:23Speaker 3: M Yes, all right, so we went along with Nick.
- 31:27Speaker 3: We'll take a break right now, and when we come back.
- 31:29Speaker 3: There is a school in the SEC, and it's not
- 31:34Speaker 3: Alabama that is claiming more national championships at a thin air.
- 31:39Speaker 4: We'll tell you who that is when we come back
- 31:41Speaker 4: here on OTB.
- 31:42Speaker 2: Off the bench.
- 31:43Speaker 4: I thought you said they weren't in the Saturday.
- 31:45Speaker 6: That was a joke, obviously, all right, go.
- 31:47Speaker 3: To Central Plumbing dot org two two five nine two
- 31:50Speaker 3: five eighty five fifty two. That is the phone number
- 31:53Speaker 3: twenty four seven three sixty five weekend, holiday game day
- 31:56Speaker 3: does not matter.
- 31:57Speaker 4: Opening kickoff of the Clemson game.
- 31:59Speaker 3: And you have a situation, right you got a pipe
- 32:02Speaker 3: that decides it is time to go, and you got
- 32:05Speaker 3: water everywhere, and you're thinking, there's no way somebody's gonna
- 32:08Speaker 3: come fix this right now. They will because they're always
- 32:11Speaker 3: on the clock over at Central Plumbing. So again two
- 32:13Speaker 3: to five ninety five eighty five fifty two and always
- 32:16Speaker 3: online at Central Plumbing dot org.
- 32:17Speaker 6: What if the uh, what if it's opening game? The
- 32:19Speaker 6: Tigers are driving to win the game is Clemson and
- 32:23Speaker 6: you have an emergency, Will they come then? I'm sure
- 32:25Speaker 6: they'll be watching the.
- 32:26Speaker 4: Game, right they will, but they have to stop what
- 32:27Speaker 4: they're doing and come fix it.
- 32:29Speaker 6: They will. They will come anytime that that's such a
- 32:31Speaker 6: powerful thing to have, Like it doesn't matter what peace
- 32:34Speaker 6: of mind that is that no anything goes on, they
- 32:36Speaker 6: will come whenever it is, wherever it is. They can
- 32:38Speaker 6: help you out. Go see them all of your plumbing
- 32:40Speaker 6: needs residential, commercial, Central Plumbing dot.
- 32:43Speaker 1: Org from the locker room to the airwaves gets off
- 33:03Speaker 1: the bench with Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn.
- 33:12Speaker 3: Don't care what big news coming from the planes. The
- 33:22Speaker 3: Auburn Tigers will now officially claim nine football national titles.
- 33:31Speaker 3: Nine so well, I mean, look, they've got a great
- 33:36Speaker 3: case study within their own state to claim national titles
- 33:39Speaker 3: that didn't really happen.
- 33:41Speaker 4: And that's exactly what they're going to do.
- 33:44Speaker 3: And so I'm going to give you the year and
- 33:49Speaker 3: who they're going to claim this national championship from, because
- 33:52Speaker 3: before they only claim the AP national championships and so
- 33:57Speaker 3: nineteen fifty seven one and then two and ten they won. Now,
- 34:05Speaker 3: as I said, they're going to claim the nine football
- 34:08Speaker 3: National Championships, all right, So their new national titles will
- 34:13Speaker 3: be nineteen ten, nineteen fourteen, nineteen fifty eight, in two
- 34:19Speaker 3: thousand and four, so nineteen ten is going to be
- 34:23Speaker 3: a new one. That was the Maxwell Ratings College Football
- 34:27Speaker 3: Rankings as well, So those two publications had them as
- 34:30Speaker 3: national champions. Now in nineteen thirteen, I think they've already
- 34:34Speaker 3: claimed that one. But nineteen fourteen, James Howe's Power Rating
- 34:38Speaker 3: system claimed them national champions. Are also going to claim
- 34:42Speaker 3: that now. Nineteen fifty seven, as I said, they won
- 34:45Speaker 3: the AP National Championship. They've always claimed that one. Now
- 34:47Speaker 3: in nineteen fifty eight, the Montgomery Full Season Championship brought
- 34:52Speaker 3: to you by David Montgomery, said they were national champions.
- 34:55Speaker 3: They're going to go ahead and claim that one, I believe.
- 34:58Speaker 3: In nineteen eighty three they claimed that one. Nineteen ninety
- 35:04Speaker 3: three is the National Championship Foundation and NCAA Football Record Books.
- 35:09Speaker 3: In two thousand and four, that's also a new one.
- 35:11Speaker 3: We played them that year, very good team. Jason Campbell,
- 35:14Speaker 3: Ronnie Brown Cadillac was on that team. Brandon Jacobs I
- 35:20Speaker 3: believe was on that team. So two thousand and four
- 35:23Speaker 3: and it says several people, including Darryl Perry and GBE
- 35:29Speaker 3: College Football Ratings said that they were national champions.
- 35:35Speaker 6: What correct me if I'm wrong? Two thousand and four
- 35:38Speaker 6: didn't they have an wasn't a national championship game?
- 35:42Speaker 4: That was my freshman year.
- 35:44Speaker 6: I think they had a game that year, had a
- 35:46Speaker 6: year it determined the national cham And there was a
- 35:47Speaker 6: Crystal Balls in Alverurn, Alabama. But Darryl Darryl.
- 35:54Speaker 4: Who Darryl Perry and gb E College Football Ratings?
- 35:59Speaker 1: What is?
- 35:59Speaker 6: What is g b E?
- 36:00Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 36:01Speaker 6: Great Britain Education, theyild it, Greater Birmingham, Greater probably Enterprise,
- 36:12Speaker 6: Greater Birmingham probably is there it is. I'll give you
- 36:17Speaker 6: nineteen thirteen. I'll even give you nineteen seven. I can't
- 36:22Speaker 6: give you fifty eight. Was any of these?
- 36:24Speaker 4: Nineteen fifty eight was taken already?
- 36:27Speaker 6: You said ninety eight four is real? Which one is real?
- 36:32Speaker 1: Not any?
- 36:33Speaker 6: Are any of them?
- 36:34Speaker 3: Really?
- 36:34Speaker 7: We don't know about nineteen thirteen. They could have made
- 36:36Speaker 7: that up.
- 36:37Speaker 6: That's why I gave it them. They can have it,
- 36:38Speaker 6: But that's just so stupid, like who cares? Nineteen fourteen
- 36:41Speaker 6: on the press on the precipice of World War One.
- 36:44Speaker 4: Yeah, what are we nineteen fifty eight the LSU Tigers.
- 36:47Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, so that is ours.
- 36:50Speaker 7: Yeah, two thousand and four.
- 36:53Speaker 3: It didn't even finished number two in the country bout
- 36:55Speaker 3: the way I mean two thousand and four.
- 36:57Speaker 4: Alburn didn't.
- 36:57Speaker 3: Alburn did not finished number two in the country in
- 37:01Speaker 3: nineteen fifty eight. In nineteen fifty eight, the Iowahaw guys did.
- 37:06Speaker 3: But Auburn's like, yeah, let's had that one.
- 37:09Speaker 6: Yep, got it.
- 37:10Speaker 7: Oh you you see up, You're too big of a
- 37:12Speaker 7: program to be doing something like this. This is what
- 37:15Speaker 7: Alabama did back in the seventies.
- 37:17Speaker 4: Yeah, Alabama's they notorious for doing it.
- 37:19Speaker 3: But your sewing machine company Kentucky tried to do this
- 37:23Speaker 3: like five six years ago. They tried to do the
- 37:26Speaker 3: same and then like they made trophies from like the
- 37:29Speaker 3: ones that they were claiming, and they got roasted so
- 37:31Speaker 3: much that they like they were like, now, we're just kidding,
- 37:34Speaker 3: We're just kidding.
- 37:35Speaker 4: We're not gonna do that. We're not gonna do that.
- 37:36Speaker 7: There's a lot of people that want LSU to claim
- 37:38Speaker 7: nineteen oh eight because LSU was number one in nineteen
- 37:42Speaker 7: oh eight. Undefeated, but honestly, like credit to LSU, they're
- 37:44Speaker 7: not doing it like LSU's like we won our legitimate
- 37:47Speaker 7: national championships. Like if you remember in nineteen they added
- 37:51Speaker 7: it to a statue and there was like five spaces,
- 37:53Speaker 7: and everybody's like, they're gonna claim nineteen oh eight two
- 37:56Speaker 7: and they haven't done it yet because you get backlash
- 37:59Speaker 7: like this when you do that, like, oh, four, should
- 38:01Speaker 7: they have been in the national championship? I think so
- 38:03Speaker 7: they were better than Oklahoma, but you know what, you
- 38:04Speaker 7: weren't in it.
- 38:05Speaker 4: They had a game.
- 38:06Speaker 7: You gonna be us USC. Do you want to be
- 38:08Speaker 7: compared to USC? Try to claim two thousand and three,
- 38:11Speaker 7: you want to be UCF like you're Auburn, you're a.
- 38:14Speaker 6: Little bit better than this or I thought you were
- 38:17Speaker 6: so just because old Charlie from down the road, like the.
- 38:21Speaker 3: Only years, so I mean to to just after the fact,
- 38:24Speaker 3: go say yes, seven, let's add seven national champ that's why.
- 38:28Speaker 7: Are they Probably they're gonna them all at once, just
- 38:32Speaker 7: drops out.
- 38:33Speaker 3: So the only ones that they actually they actually have
- 38:37Speaker 3: claimed to is nineteen fifty seven. They went ten to zero,
- 38:41Speaker 3: led the nation in defense, finished number one eight people,
- 38:44Speaker 3: but they were on NCAA probation and not allowed to
- 38:48Speaker 3: play in a ball game. That was in nineteen fifty seven,
- 38:52Speaker 3: which they actually they have up in the stadium one
- 38:54Speaker 3: of like they actually claimed in twenty ten. We all know,
- 38:58Speaker 3: like we talked about yesterday, it was cam new un
- 39:00Speaker 3: versus everybody, and they went up there.
- 39:01Speaker 6: They won that one, give you that one.
- 39:04Speaker 3: But now we're talking nineteen thirteen, nineteen fourteen, nineteen fifty eight,
- 39:08Speaker 3: nineteen nine, three, and two thousand and four.
- 39:11Speaker 7: Why are they did they say? Why are they trying
- 39:13Speaker 7: to close the gap between them in Alabama?
- 39:14Speaker 4: I would assume that has something to do with here.
- 39:17Speaker 6: What would be more desperate and sad them claiming national
- 39:21Speaker 6: championships that happened a century ago based on some random
- 39:25Speaker 6: person's like list and what they thought. Or claiming a
- 39:28Speaker 6: national championship because you beat the national champ Like what
- 39:31Speaker 6: if Kentucky claimed national championship in O seven to beat us?
- 39:34Speaker 6: They're both pretty bad.
- 39:35Speaker 7: That's worse. Ye, that's worse, Like it's worse for UCF
- 39:39Speaker 7: to claim it in twenty and seventeen, like, in my opinion,
- 39:43Speaker 7: the worst one Auburn's claiming it's two thousand and four,
- 39:45Speaker 7: which is probly their best argument because they were a
- 39:48Speaker 7: good team, but they didn't play in that game we
- 39:50Speaker 7: watched they played. It wasn't all Auburt.
- 39:52Speaker 4: Wasn't so for nineteen fifty eight.
- 39:55Speaker 3: Here's what it says, and this is from Auburn in
- 39:58Speaker 3: nineteen fifty eight nine oh and one in a perfect
- 40:03Speaker 3: six to zero in SEC play. LSU finished number one
- 40:07Speaker 3: at eleven and oh and was widely regarded as national champions. Now,
- 40:11Speaker 3: the two set of Tigers didn't play each other. Iowa
- 40:14Speaker 3: was also named a national champion that season by an outlet,
- 40:17Speaker 3: finishing eight one and one of note. Alburn's defense led
- 40:21Speaker 3: the SEC and the nation and yards per game allowed.
- 40:24Speaker 3: The Tigers offense led the SEC in total yards per game.
- 40:28Speaker 3: So they're trying to make it sound like, yeah, we
- 40:32Speaker 3: had a tie. LSU didn't lose or have a tie.
- 40:35Speaker 3: They were eleven and and oh, we were nine oh
- 40:37Speaker 3: to one. Remember they didn't get to play in a
- 40:38Speaker 3: bowl game that year because they were on probation. But like,
- 40:41Speaker 3: we led the sec U in offense and were like,
- 40:45Speaker 3: we were really good on defense as far as the
- 40:48Speaker 3: cards per game allowed.
- 40:49Speaker 6: Look at the stats.
- 40:50Speaker 3: You're going to stats like you don't have claim to it.
- 40:53Speaker 3: You tied a game, you were on probation, you didn't
- 40:55Speaker 3: even play in a ball game.
- 40:58Speaker 6: It's just sad.
- 40:58Speaker 4: Auburn LSU please never do this ever, ever, ever, ever,
- 41:03Speaker 4: ever ever.
- 41:04Speaker 6: So I'm looking it up right now, hydrated.
- 41:06Speaker 7: Though the NCAA recognizes l s U is the nineteen
- 41:11Speaker 7: oh eight national champs and l s U is still
- 41:12Speaker 7: they don't know.
- 41:13Speaker 4: The NCAA website has we haven't.
- 41:15Speaker 6: They probably have had a chance to fix it since
- 41:17Speaker 6: Auburn claimed it. They'll fix it. Sure, it's crazy, give
- 41:22Speaker 6: a few days. It didn't do much fast, so.
- 41:25Speaker 3: But you know what, though, I mean their argument nineteen
- 41:29Speaker 3: ten is pretty solid for Auburn. They finished six and one,
- 41:32Speaker 3: five and zero in the s i AA.
- 41:34Speaker 7: WHOA six and one, that's gonna be their record when
- 41:39Speaker 7: they make the twenty eight team playoff. Six and one.
- 41:43Speaker 4: Douche championships just don't mean anything. Come on, man, you're
- 41:48Speaker 4: better than this. Don't get pretty sad.
- 41:50Speaker 6: It's just sad. It is sad.
- 41:51Speaker 3: All right, We'll take our last break of the show,
