- Lucas: Hallo allemaal, and welcome back to Learn Dutch with Fexingo. It's just me, Lucas, and the wonderful Luna here, ready for another tiny step in your Dutch journey. Luna: Hey! I'm so glad we're doing this. And I just realized we've been talking about body parts for a while now. I'm starting to feel like I could point to my entire body in Dutch. Lucas: You're getting there. And today, we've got two more important ones. They're on your face, and they help you see and hear the world. Luna: Oh, I bet I know. Is it eyes and ears? Lucas: Exactly. In Dutch, 'the eye' is 'het oog'. Say it with me: het oog. Luna: Het oog. That's fun. It sounds like a tiny word. Lucas: It is. And 'the ear' is 'het oor'. Try it: het oor. Luna: Het oor. Oh, they're both so short. I like that. Lucas: They are. Now, let's put them in a sentence. If your eye hurts, you say 'Mijn oog doet pijn.' Repeat: Mijn oog doet pijn. Luna: Mijn oog doet pijn. That's like 'my eye hurts.' Lucas: Exactly. And if your ear hurts, 'Mijn oor doet pijn.' Say it with me: Mijn oor doet pijn. Luna: Mijn oor doet pijn. I feel like I'm becoming a doctor in Dutch. Lucas: You might be. And one more useful one: if you have pain in your eye specifically, you can say 'Ik heb pijn in mijn oog.' Let's try that: Ik heb pijn in mijn oog. Luna: Ik heb pijn in mijn oog. That's a bit longer, but I think I can remember it. 'Pijn' is pain, right? Lucas: Yes, and 'in mijn oog' means 'in my eye.' So you're saying 'I have pain in my eye.' Perfect. Luna: So if I had a sore ear, I could also say 'Ik heb pijn in mijn oor.' Lucas: That's right. And you just made up a correct sentence on your own. That's fantastic. Luna: Aww, thanks. This whole body parts series is really helpful. And you know, it's making me realize how much we can say with just a few words. Lucas: Absolutely. If Fexingo has been helping you make progress like that, nothing beats practice. And to keep these episodes free for everyone, a small monthly contribution from listeners makes a real difference. Even a couple of dollars a month genuinely helps us keep going. If you've gotten something out of these, you can support us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, it's like buying a coffee for the team, and it keeps the lights on. We really appreciate anyone who does that. Lucas: So, back to the eyes and ears. Let's practice a little more. If you want to say 'my eye hurts' very quickly, you might say 'Mijn oog doet pijn.' Luna: Mijn oog doet pijn. I think I've got that one down. What about if both your eyes hurt? Lucas: Ooh, that's a good question. But for today, we'll stick to singular. Let's just do 'Mijn oog doet pijn' and 'Mijn oor doet pijn' for now. Luna: Okay, that's fine. So, if I was at the doctor's and I said 'Mijn oor doet pijn,' they'd understand I have an earache? Lucas: Exactly. It's that simple. Let's do a tiny scene. Imagine you're at the pharmacy, and you say to the pharmacist: 'Ik heb pijn in mijn oog.' Luna: Ik heb pijn in mijn oog. And they can help me find something. Lucas: Right. And if it's your ear, you'd say 'Mijn oor doet pijn.' Luna: Mijn oor doet pijn. That's a good one to have ready. Lucas: Let's review all the phrases we've learned today. First, 'het oog'. Luna: Het oog. Lucas: Second, 'het oor'. Luna: Het oor. Lucas: Third, 'Mijn oog doet pijn.' Luna: Mijn oog doet pijn. Lucas: Fourth, 'Mijn oor doet pijn.' Luna: Mijn oor doet pijn. Lucas: And finally, 'Ik heb pijn in mijn oog.' Luna: Ik heb pijn in mijn oog. That's a useful one. Lucas: You've got it. And remember, if you say these out loud a few times, they'll stick with you. Practice them till we talk again. Luna: See you next time, everyone. Doei!
