Speaker 1: and awakens the next day with his feet all burned off.
• 0:12
Speaker 1: Pinocchio hated the dark street, but he was so hungry
• 0:15
Speaker 1: that in spite of it, he ran out of the house.
• 0:18
Speaker 1: The night was pitch black, it thundered, and bright flashes
• 0:22
Speaker 1: of lightning. Now it again shot across the sky, turning
• 0:26
Speaker 1: it into a sea of fire. An angry wind blew
• 0:31
Speaker 1: cold and raised dense clouds of dust, while the tree
• 0:34
Speaker 1: shook and moaned in a weird way. Pinocchio was greatly
• 0:40
Speaker 1: afraid of thunder and lightning, but the hungry he felt
• 0:44
Speaker 1: was far greater than his fear. And a dozen leaps
• 0:48
Speaker 1: and bounds he came to the village, tired out, puffing
• 0:51
Speaker 1: like a wail, and with tongue hanging. The whole village
• 0:56
Speaker 1: was dark and deserted. The stores were closed, the door
• 1:00
Speaker 1: the windows in the streets. Not even a dog could
• 1:04
Speaker 1: be seen. It seemed the village of the dead. Pinocchio,
• 1:09
Speaker 1: in desperation, ran up to a doorway, threw himself upon
• 1:13
Speaker 1: the bell, and pulled it wildly, saying to himself, someone
• 1:17
Speaker 1: will surely answer that he was right an old man
• 1:22
Speaker 1: in a nightcap opened the window and looked out. He
• 1:25
Speaker 1: called down angrily, what do you want at this hour
• 1:29
Speaker 1: of night? Will you be good enough to give me
• 1:33
Speaker 1: a bit of bread? I am hungry. Wait a minute
• 1:37
Speaker 1: and I'll come right back, answered the old fellow, thinking
• 1:41
Speaker 1: he had to deal with one of those boys who
• 1:43
Speaker 1: loved to roam around at night, ringing people's bells while
• 1:45
Speaker 1: they are peacefully asleep. After a minute or two, the
• 1:50
Speaker 1: same voice cried, get under the window and hold out
• 1:53
Speaker 1: your hat. Pinocchio had no hat, but he managed to
• 1:58
Speaker 1: get under the window just in time to fill a
• 2:00
Speaker 1: shower of ice. Cold water poured down on his poor
• 2:03
Speaker 1: wooden head, his shoulders, and over his whole body. He
• 2:08
Speaker 1: returned home as wet as a rag and tired out
• 2:11
Speaker 1: from weariness and hunger. As he no longer had any
• 2:16
Speaker 1: strength left with which to stand, he sat down on
• 2:19
Speaker 1: a little stool and put his two feet on the
• 2:22
Speaker 1: stove to dry them. There he fell asleep, and while
• 2:27
Speaker 1: he slept, his wooden feet began to burn slowly, very slowly,
• 2:32
Speaker 1: they blackened and turned to ashes. Pinocchio snored away happily,
• 2:38
Speaker 1: as if his feet were not his own. At dawn.
• 2:41
Speaker 1: He opened his eyes just as a loud knocking sounded
• 2:44
Speaker 1: at the door. Who is it, he called, yawning and
• 2:49
Speaker 1: rubbing his eyes. It is I, answered a voice. It
• 2:54
Speaker 1: was the voice of geppetto chapter six.
