- 0:00Speaker 1: Online sports talk radio show. He joins us live on
- 0:04Speaker 1: the Beacon Plumbing Hotline. Good morning, Keith, Good afternoon for you.
- 0:09Speaker 2: I was about to say good morning for you guys
- 0:11Speaker 2: on the West side. It's freshly after two pm. I
- 0:14Speaker 2: just ate lunch over here in New York.
- 0:17Speaker 1: I was could ask if I was in New York
- 0:18Speaker 1: in the early nineties when Patrick Ewing and Anthony Mason,
- 0:21Speaker 1: those guys were NBA Finals teams, and they haven't been
- 0:24Speaker 1: there since ninety nine. How big a deal is it
- 0:26Speaker 1: in New York City about the Knicks right now?
- 0:30Speaker 3: Oh, it's huge.
- 0:31Speaker 2: I mean it's a generational thing because you know, these kids'
- 0:34Speaker 2: dads are telling them, oh, yeah, my Knicks.
- 0:37Speaker 3: I knew, you know, back in ninety nine.
- 0:39Speaker 2: And the kids can't really grasp that. They can google it,
- 0:43Speaker 2: they can look on YouTube, but they didn't live it.
- 0:45Speaker 2: And even me, like I'm in between, I was in
- 0:47Speaker 2: the fourth grade, I don't remember it, like I know
- 0:50Speaker 2: what happened, but I can't tell you where I watched
- 0:52Speaker 2: or where I was or like, you know, it was
- 0:54Speaker 2: still fuzzy for me in elementary school. So this is
- 0:57Speaker 2: huge because this has been leading up for years. They've
- 1:00Speaker 2: had teams that they thought were gonna get there. They
- 1:03Speaker 2: thought Carmelo in that group could potentially do it, even
- 1:05Speaker 2: going back more recently Julius Randall. But really this is
- 1:09Speaker 2: the Brunton era and now the Mike Brown era, right
- 1:12Speaker 2: getting rid of Tibbs, the pain that they felt last year,
- 1:15Speaker 2: losing to the Pacers, feeling like they were about to
- 1:18Speaker 2: go to the finals, and then pushing all their tips
- 1:20Speaker 2: to the table to get it done this year and
- 1:21Speaker 2: actually doing it.
- 1:23Speaker 3: I've never seen anything like it in the city. It's
- 1:24Speaker 3: the Knicks Mania. The Knicks of the one team that
- 1:26Speaker 3: unites the entire New York and surrounding areas.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Never seen anything like it in New York City. Is
- 1:31Speaker 1: saying something in the sports sense, because in any sense, really,
- 1:35Speaker 1: that's interesting that Keith would say that.
- 1:37Speaker 4: You mentioned Jalen Brunson.
- 1:38Speaker 1: He started his career Villanova guy born need New Brunswick,
- 1:42Speaker 1: New Jersey, but then spend most of his early life
- 1:44Speaker 1: in South Jersey. In the Philadelphia area. Rick Brunson was
- 1:48Speaker 1: a big Temple star that preceded him, played in the
- 1:50Speaker 1: NBA before his son went in when he started his
- 1:54Speaker 1: curve with the Dallas Mavericks. Then he signs with the
- 1:56Speaker 1: Knicks after the twenty two seed in the offseason twenty
- 1:59Speaker 1: twenty two. Did anyone envision this from Jalen Brunson And
- 2:03Speaker 1: what role is he? I mean, twenty six points per
- 2:05Speaker 1: game speaks for itself, but how instrumental and what is he?
- 2:08Speaker 1: How has he grown into being? Here's a guy that's
- 2:11Speaker 1: going to lead us to the NBA Finals.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Oh, I can't say enough about Brunton. I mean, steven
- 2:17Speaker 2: A is getting cooked right now on Twitter. Anybody that
- 2:19Speaker 2: follows the Knicks accounts and New York accounts, there's this
- 2:23Speaker 2: guy king slime. He found old footage of steven A
- 2:26Speaker 2: who was pissed off that they signed Brunton that said
- 2:28Speaker 2: he's tired of the Knicks. This guy's not KD, this
- 2:31Speaker 2: guy's not Kawhi. Well, this was the guy. Shout out
- 2:34Speaker 2: to Leon Rose for recognizing this was the guy and
- 2:37Speaker 2: recognizing that, Hey, his dad trained him, his dad played here,
- 2:41Speaker 2: knows what it takes.
- 2:41Speaker 3: He's going to have him ready.
- 2:43Speaker 2: And the biggest thing that I can tip my cap
- 2:45Speaker 2: to or look at Jalen Brunson and say, yo, you
- 2:47Speaker 2: did it.
- 2:47Speaker 5: Bro.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Of course he's a great player and all that he
- 2:50Speaker 2: took less money. When do we see players do that
- 2:53Speaker 2: right here in New York? Wan Soto said, nope, I
- 2:55Speaker 2: want to be the highest paid player ever. I want
- 2:56Speaker 2: to set the record. Nope, I'm going to highs Bidder
- 2:58Speaker 2: and that team sucks New York Mets. The Nicks are
- 3:02Speaker 2: only able to put this team together with what they're
- 3:05Speaker 2: paying og, what they're paying mckel Bridges, what they're paying
- 3:08Speaker 2: Karl Anthony Towns. Because Brunton said, I'll get my back later.
- 3:11Speaker 2: I want to win a chip.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Keith McPherson, former host of WFN Sports Raider in New
- 3:16Speaker 1: York City, now the host of the mic Check Sports
- 3:18Speaker 1: talk show online, is joining us on the Beacon Plumbing
- 3:20Speaker 1: Hotline from New.
- 3:21Speaker 6: York Sticking with Jalen Brunson. What do you think about
- 3:24Speaker 6: Becky Hammond's comments and about Jalen Brunson And do you
- 3:29Speaker 6: think that is still legitimate basketball argument about roster construction
- 3:33Speaker 6: in the playoff matchups? Or has Jalen Brunson's postseason run
- 3:37Speaker 6: changed the way we should evaluate smaller superstar guards in
- 3:42Speaker 6: today's NBA.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Listen, everybody wants old takes exposed to get the receipts.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Everybody's ready to say someone had a freezing cold take.
- 3:51Speaker 3: I've been getting people on my back because.
- 3:54Speaker 2: I stuck my neck out to say, hey, that takes
- 3:57Speaker 2: still holds until Brunton holds the trophy. She's kind of
- 4:00Speaker 2: with that because he hasn't won anything yet. All she
- 4:02Speaker 2: was saying is historically, little guys, they're not the guy
- 4:06Speaker 2: that leads you to a championship. If your main guy
- 4:09Speaker 2: is small, usually you're gonna run into a team that
- 4:12Speaker 2: can defend him, neutralize them, and you got to have
- 4:14Speaker 2: other options. What I'll say is, you know, we'll see.
- 4:17Speaker 2: I do think the Knicks can win the finals, but
- 4:19Speaker 2: there's a witch hunt out for Becky Hammond off of
- 4:22Speaker 2: that take. And that take was so long ago. I
- 4:24Speaker 2: don't even think they had played twenty five games yet.
- 4:26Speaker 2: I think they've been flashing the steat. I think the
- 4:27Speaker 2: Knicks are like eleven and fourteen or something like that.
- 4:29Speaker 3: They were middle of the pack.
- 4:30Speaker 2: So what I don't think she was wrong, and she
- 4:33Speaker 2: said you could prove me wrong, but that take is still.
- 4:36Speaker 3: Valid if the Knicks don't win it.
- 4:38Speaker 2: All respect to Brunchon and what he's done, but if
- 4:41Speaker 2: you're watching these games, it's a team effort. It's a
- 4:43Speaker 2: team game. All these guys are scoring in double digits.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Game one was a lot of brunch and cooking Harden.
- 4:48Speaker 2: But for the most part, it is a team game
- 4:50Speaker 2: and their bench is finishing these games. It isn't like,
- 4:54Speaker 2: you know, Brunton is Jordan or Kobe.
- 4:58Speaker 6: No, that's true. I'm with you points there. What do
- 5:01Speaker 6: you think has been the biggest reason why the Knicks
- 5:05Speaker 6: finally broke through and got back to the NBA Finals
- 5:07Speaker 6: after all those years.
- 5:11Speaker 2: I think it's the chemistry of the team. And they
- 5:14Speaker 2: knew that they had to fire the coach. And I
- 5:16Speaker 2: was on the radio at WFAN right when they did
- 5:19Speaker 2: it the day after, and I'll tell you that eighty
- 5:22Speaker 2: percent of the callers and fans said, this is a mistake.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Firing Tom Thibodeaux is a mistake. He is the architect
- 5:29Speaker 2: of this resurgence. This team has gone to the second
- 5:32Speaker 2: round back to back to back years. They got to
- 5:34Speaker 2: the Eastern Conference Finals, right, they were celebrated last year,
- 5:37Speaker 2: twenty some years since the Eastern Conference Finals. So the
- 5:40Speaker 2: biggest thing is the chemistry of the team.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Right.
- 5:42Speaker 2: When you talk about Brunton too, he made sure that
- 5:44Speaker 2: they traded for Josh hart.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Is Villanova teammate.
- 5:47Speaker 2: He made sure they traded for Michel Bridges, which we
- 5:49Speaker 2: didn't think was going to happen in the city because
- 5:51Speaker 2: he was in Brooklyn. They paid a high price tax
- 5:54Speaker 2: for Brooklyn net right.
- 5:55Speaker 3: They bring in Karl Anthony Towns.
- 5:57Speaker 2: They make the trade for og Nanobi, given up two
- 5:59Speaker 2: home grown drafted players that fans started to fall in
- 6:02Speaker 2: love with in.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Iq and RJ. So it's the chemistry of the group.
- 6:06Speaker 2: And then the last piece of the puzzle was Mike Brown,
- 6:09Speaker 2: a coach that could change the offense up so it's
- 6:11Speaker 2: not just brunts and dribble dribble, dribble iso ball, And
- 6:15Speaker 2: they built him a deeper bench and he went to
- 6:17Speaker 2: the bench all season where you see these guys playing
- 6:19Speaker 2: at the end of the games. Now, this is not
- 6:21Speaker 2: their first time stepping into the game. And last year
- 6:24Speaker 2: they had so much tread on the tires. There was
- 6:26Speaker 2: a study about how the Knicks starting five had almost
- 6:28Speaker 2: doubled the mileage of any other starting five in the
- 6:31Speaker 2: NBA because Tibbs ran his guys into the ground even
- 6:35Speaker 2: when they were up. He didn't want to take them
- 6:36Speaker 2: out with a ten point lead until the game was secure.
- 6:39Speaker 2: So the biggest change in what we're seeing to get
- 6:42Speaker 2: them over the hump is Mike Brown, the bench they
- 6:45Speaker 2: have and just the you know, they went through the war.
- 6:47Speaker 2: They lost last year, they went to battle. There's a
- 6:48Speaker 2: picture floating around of them in the club in New
- 6:51Speaker 2: York last year when they lost to the Pacers and
- 6:53Speaker 2: they got bottle service and the sign says NBA Finals
- 6:57Speaker 2: twenty twenty six. This group was bought in. This was
- 6:59Speaker 2: the only Mike Brown.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Keith knows this, but Mike Brown was fired by the
- 7:04Speaker 1: Sacramento Kings less than eighteen months ago. I was in
- 7:08Speaker 1: the NBA Finals. What in particular you mentioned the offense
- 7:11Speaker 1: and not having five guys run him in the ground
- 7:14Speaker 1: and move the ball.
- 7:16Speaker 4: What chemistry? Why? What have you noticed about Mike Brown
- 7:19Speaker 4: in particular this work?
- 7:20Speaker 1: And if you go back Vision's history, was he their
- 7:23Speaker 1: first choice or who are the next top candidates?
- 7:25Speaker 4: And how did get in there?
- 7:29Speaker 3: I did a whole bit on air. I'm like they
- 7:30Speaker 3: wanted Jason Kidd, and they checked on Billy Donovan, Quinn Snyder.
- 7:35Speaker 2: They even went and checked on you know, Don Staley,
- 7:38Speaker 2: but they wanted everybody else except who they landed on,
- 7:44Speaker 2: but they landed on the right guy and sometimes man, the.
- 7:47Speaker 3: Universe never unconnected. It was written, it was destined because.
- 7:50Speaker 2: I feel like Mike Brown's demeanor fits New York right.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Simms was very hard nosed and didn't have much to
- 7:56Speaker 2: say to the media. It's kind of old, grouchy, grumpy man.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Mike Brown was talk to everybody even when it was back,
- 8:01Speaker 2: like Mike Brown stepped into a seat that like, there's
- 8:05Speaker 2: so much pressure on you. It's finals, they're nothing, and
- 8:08Speaker 2: he handled it so well. And then also him changing
- 8:11Speaker 2: up that offense and him working with Rick Brunton, his
- 8:13Speaker 2: assistance and giving them credit for changes in the offense.
- 8:16Speaker 2: What I love about the Nick offense. You see them
- 8:18Speaker 2: against the Cavs. The Cavs get a bucket. They're firing
- 8:22Speaker 2: the ball down to the other end of the court,
- 8:23Speaker 2: fast break, fast paced.
- 8:25Speaker 3: We're going to pay this thing.
- 8:26Speaker 2: We're going to get on the other side of the
- 8:27Speaker 2: floor and return the score. So Mike Brown's demeanor, his
- 8:30Speaker 2: coaching style, and his willingness to play the bench is
- 8:34Speaker 2: exactly what they needed to adapt to modern day.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Twenty twenty six NBA Basketball.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Keith McFerson talking to us from New York about the NBA,
- 8:41Speaker 1: in particular the Knicks making it the NBA Finals for
- 8:43Speaker 1: the first time since nineteen ninety nine. Here on KGRE,
- 8:46Speaker 1: let me ask you about the Thunder, the presumed finalist
- 8:48Speaker 1: here unless the Spurs can win two in a row
- 8:51Speaker 1: starting night in game six in San Antonio in the West.
- 8:54Speaker 4: What's your view of the Thunder and their style of play.
- 8:56Speaker 1: We love the bag on the Thunder out here in Seattle,
- 8:58Speaker 1: of course, because they stole the Sonics, and we love
- 9:00Speaker 1: to talk about the flopping that SDA does and how
- 9:03Speaker 1: there are phantom fouls that the MVP and his teammates get.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Do you like the way the Thunder play? Do you
- 9:09Speaker 1: think they exploit the officiating? What's your view of all that?
- 9:14Speaker 3: I'll answer that question.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Can I ask you a question like, do you guys
- 9:17Speaker 2: like root for the Thunder since they used to be
- 9:19Speaker 2: the song that the sentiment is there, No.
- 9:22Speaker 1: We want him to lose preseason game No, we want
- 9:24Speaker 1: him to lose preseason, we want them to gow.
- 9:27Speaker 4: Yeah, we we have nothing to do it.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Okay, good, I'm like I wasn't really thinking about that,
- 9:33Speaker 2: he said them, Like, is that like kind of your team.
- 9:35Speaker 3: No, quite the opposite.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Listen their brand of basketball. If you're not a Thunder fan,
- 9:40Speaker 2: nobody likes watching it because it's like, oh, come on,
- 9:43Speaker 2: and you can see it coming. You see as soon
- 9:45Speaker 2: as they go up for a shot or SGA goes
- 9:47Speaker 2: up for a shot.
- 9:48Speaker 3: He's gonna lean in. And then even the other.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Night, right uh Castle came out after the game is
- 9:53Speaker 2: talking about like we can't get that same whistle. They
- 9:55Speaker 2: have the back to back MVP and they're the raining champs,
- 9:58Speaker 2: they do get a different whistle, And I don't know
- 10:01Speaker 2: the style of play is what it is. It's also
- 10:03Speaker 2: modern day NBA. The NBA is supposed to be finding
- 10:06Speaker 2: guys and like stopping the flopping, but they're still able
- 10:10Speaker 2: to do it very well. And I won't even talk
- 10:11Speaker 2: about the flopping. Like, let's talk about Sam Presty. That
- 10:15Speaker 2: guy is a mastermind. Jared McCain from Duke play like that.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Jared McCain is not supposed to be on their team.
- 10:24Speaker 2: He's supposed to be in Philadelphia. And they don't even
- 10:27Speaker 2: have their full compliment of guys without Aj Mitchell and
- 10:30Speaker 2: Jalen Williams. And they have so many ways to be too.
- 10:33Speaker 2: It could be Alex Carus a wide open for a
- 10:35Speaker 2: corner three.
- 10:35Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying. It could be it could
- 10:37Speaker 3: be SGA, But SGA can give it up to whomever.
- 10:40Speaker 2: It doesn't matter if it's if it's Ted, if it's Dort,
- 10:43Speaker 2: if it's Isaiah Hardest Scene. It's just like they have
- 10:46Speaker 2: such a group of players and a bench.
- 10:49Speaker 3: And a style of play that fits his.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Modern day NBA. They're not going anywhere for a long time.
- 10:55Speaker 6: Well, let's stick with it. If the Knicks end up
- 10:57Speaker 6: facing Okay, see, as we kind of just brought to you,
- 11:00Speaker 6: what specific adjustment would Mike Brown need to make offensively
- 11:04Speaker 6: to deal with Thunder's perimeter defense?
- 11:06Speaker 4: You think, I don't know.
- 11:09Speaker 3: I'm interested to see.
- 11:10Speaker 2: I feel like if the Knicks are going to win
- 11:15Speaker 2: against the Thunder, like I'm looking at Wemby right now
- 11:19Speaker 2: and what they've been.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Able to do against Wemby, and I'm looking at Kat
- 11:23Speaker 3: and I'm like, Cat can shoot, Kat can also create.
- 11:26Speaker 2: And when the Knicks kind of ran into trouble against
- 11:28Speaker 2: the Atlanta Hawks, what they did was shift to having
- 11:30Speaker 2: Cat play quarterback. They were calling him Kat Mahomes my
- 11:33Speaker 2: boy Christian Winfield named it Cat Mahomes because he would
- 11:36Speaker 2: just stand at the top with the ball over his
- 11:38Speaker 2: head looking to make passes and make plays. I think
- 11:40Speaker 2: the adjustment is going to be going back to running
- 11:42Speaker 2: through Karl Anthony Towns and getting Towns going right away
- 11:46Speaker 2: against their Biggs, against Chet, against Isaiah Hartenstein, and you
- 11:50Speaker 2: know he's a former Nick himself, so there's a storyline.
- 11:53Speaker 3: I don't think it's going to be all on Brunton.
- 11:55Speaker 2: I don't think it's going to be all on Brunton
- 11:57Speaker 2: and I do think that, but kel Bring this is
- 12:00Speaker 2: a good.
- 12:00Speaker 3: Matchup for SGA to defend SGA.
- 12:02Speaker 2: So yeah, I think it's it's gonna be a series
- 12:04Speaker 2: where like Karl Anthony town is gonna have to have
- 12:06Speaker 2: a big series, shooting the ball, rebounding the ball, getting
- 12:09Speaker 2: points in the paint, dunk and the ball to kind
- 12:12Speaker 2: of match what they have going on, and even the
- 12:14Speaker 2: perimeter defense like og and I don't know, McHale has
- 12:18Speaker 2: been shooting the lights out, but there's also some secret
- 12:20Speaker 2: weapons that the Knicks have, like Landry Shammitt out of nowhere,
- 12:23Speaker 2: Like Landry Shammick can't miss. So even like Josh Hart
- 12:28Speaker 2: had that one game where he had twenty.
- 12:29Speaker 3: Six points, Like, where did that come from? They let
- 12:32Speaker 3: them open, so they have multiple ways to be too.
- 12:36Speaker 2: I think they're gonna adapt an adjust, but I think
- 12:37Speaker 2: the focal point is going to be Carl Anthony Towns.
- 12:40Speaker 6: We're drawn by Keith McPherson, host of Mike Check. You
- 12:43Speaker 6: can check them out on YouTube. Speaking of the Spurs,
- 12:48Speaker 6: you mentioned Victor women Yama. Which matchup do you think
- 12:52Speaker 6: matches up better for the New York Knicks. Do you
- 12:54Speaker 6: think it's the Spurs or are you going with OKC.
- 13:00Speaker 2: I was asked this on Fox News two nights ago,
- 13:02Speaker 2: and I'm like, at this point, I don't know. And
- 13:06Speaker 2: some Knick fans are leaning that they want the Spurs
- 13:09Speaker 2: because they beat them in the NBA Cup and they're
- 13:11Speaker 2: a younger team and they feel like.
- 13:12Speaker 3: It's just Wenby.
- 13:13Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, but you don't want that because what
- 13:14Speaker 2: if Wenby goes crazy or what if Wenby just had
- 13:17Speaker 2: four crazy games and that's all it takes to beat you,
- 13:20Speaker 2: Like you don't want the one unicorn. You don't want
- 13:23Speaker 2: the tallest guy that can do everything, that can defend everywhere,
- 13:26Speaker 2: Like you don't want to sign up for that. I
- 13:29Speaker 2: think they'd be better suited against the Thunder, but I
- 13:31Speaker 2: can't sign them up for that either because the Thunder
- 13:33Speaker 2: or the defending champs, and they have multiple ways to
- 13:36Speaker 2: beat you, and they have the back back to back MVP.
- 13:38Speaker 2: So I think some Knicks fans were rooting for the Spurs,
- 13:41Speaker 2: but regardless, like I think the Thunder can end it tonight.
- 13:44Speaker 2: I think it's going to be the Thunder defending their
- 13:46Speaker 2: back to back, you know, championships, both.
- 13:48Speaker 3: Orange and blue teams versus like the Knicks who hadn't
- 13:52Speaker 3: been there for twenty seven years, and.
- 13:54Speaker 2: The whole city of New York big market versus Oklahoma
- 13:57Speaker 2: City small market. Like, I think the storylines are right
- 14:00Speaker 2: there for a box office NBA Finals.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm hoping it's Thunder Knicks and the Knicks just
- 14:06Speaker 1: blow them off the map, just flatten them.
- 14:08Speaker 4: That would be awesome. I get that close, but go ahead.
- 14:13Speaker 3: Good.
- 14:13Speaker 2: They're resting right now, the Knicks are. They're they're kicking
- 14:15Speaker 2: their feet up again. They've got that rest factor, and
- 14:18Speaker 2: I think that that plays a huge part in this thing.
- 14:21Speaker 3: That's how they how they beat the Calves.
- 14:23Speaker 2: The Calves had no business losing game one, But you
- 14:25Speaker 2: know what, they played back to back seven game series
- 14:28Speaker 2: and their legs got heavy, thinking, oh, we're up twenty two,
- 14:30Speaker 2: we're gonna bring this thing home. And then the Knicks
- 14:33Speaker 2: took off their rust and they were fresh in the
- 14:36Speaker 2: fourth quarter in overtime, they stole that first game and
- 14:38Speaker 2: then they swept them.
- 14:39Speaker 6: Do you know how to say OG's name? Real name?
- 14:44Speaker 3: Oh? Jugua? Oh Jugua?
- 14:46Speaker 6: Oh you're better than Charles Barkley and nailed. I'm sure
- 14:49Speaker 6: you saw that. Clipton got a good laugh. I didn't know.
- 14:52Speaker 6: I never looked up his name, and I was like, oh, shoot,
- 14:54Speaker 6: his name is not just Og. There's there's something to it. Okay,
- 14:58Speaker 6: fair enough. How important do you think.
- 15:00Speaker 3: Og Jugua and Anubi?
- 15:02Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm not gonna even try to know what's the
- 15:04Speaker 6: last name Annob We're gonna leave it at that. But
- 15:06Speaker 6: his two way dominance, he's been really good and he's
- 15:09Speaker 6: been one of the pieces as to why the Knicks
- 15:12Speaker 6: are on this finals run. How do you think he's
- 15:15Speaker 6: been recognized nationally as more than just that three and
- 15:19Speaker 6: D guy.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean in New York he gets a ton
- 15:24Speaker 2: of respect. In New York, he gets a ton of love.
- 15:27Speaker 2: They didn't even need him. He tweaked his hamstring against
- 15:29Speaker 2: the Sixers. He played two games and they finished them
- 15:32Speaker 2: off without og. But at his size, how he's able
- 15:36Speaker 2: to defend. And then when he's hitting shots too, he's
- 15:39Speaker 2: a problem.
- 15:40Speaker 3: And I just like that.
- 15:40Speaker 2: He's a silent assassin. He barely smiles, like he don't
- 15:43Speaker 2: he don't have much to say. He makes his bag,
- 15:46Speaker 2: he goes out there and plays, and I think he's
- 15:49Speaker 2: gonna play a big factor. And I know the rest
- 15:50Speaker 2: has certainly helped him. He's had hamstring injuries every year
- 15:53Speaker 2: he had won in the regular season. He had one
- 15:55Speaker 2: in the postseason a couple of years ago. If they
- 15:57Speaker 2: keep Big Fellow right, he can dominate. He can lie
- 16:00Speaker 2: down anybody, and that he can also shoot it and
- 16:03Speaker 2: dunk it in and make plays offensively as well.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Keith McFerson, since you're mister New York and the Mets
- 16:08Speaker 1: are coming in here to play the Mariners and Monday
- 16:10Speaker 1: in a three game series. What is going on with
- 16:13Speaker 1: the Mets? Are they going to go into fire sale
- 16:15Speaker 1: mode in July? What another failure for a massive, massive
- 16:20Speaker 1: salary cap salary structure that they have in not getting
- 16:22Speaker 1: any wins in last plays.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Yeah, what I say about the Mets is only the
- 16:29Speaker 2: Mets can out Mets.
- 16:30Speaker 3: The Mets.
- 16:31Speaker 2: They're gonna find a way every single time. What can
- 16:35Speaker 2: happen negatively, what can happen will so you can go
- 16:38Speaker 2: get Wan Soto and Wansto's.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Gonna hit his little Juan Solo shots.
- 16:42Speaker 2: They've been calling him Wan Solo like he's gonna hit
- 16:44Speaker 2: his homers and he's gonna get his numbers. But it's
- 16:46Speaker 2: not gonna matter when you're down five, six to seven runs.
- 16:48Speaker 2: And this thing is a mess because they tried to
- 16:52Speaker 2: get rid of Pete Alonso, Brandon m O, they lost
- 16:55Speaker 2: Edwin Diaz, they traded away Jeff McNeil. They literally traded
- 16:58Speaker 2: away the core of this team, thinking that boy genius
- 17:02Speaker 2: from Milwaukee, David Stearns could come in here and just
- 17:05Speaker 2: manufacture something else that will make them competitive after they
- 17:08Speaker 2: just missed the postseason last year. Boba Schett not quite,
- 17:12Speaker 2: Freddy Faralta has been metsified, and Luis Roberts on the
- 17:16Speaker 2: sixty day il, even though they gave him a slow
- 17:18Speaker 2: spring training, tried to keep him healthy and nothing has worked.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Clay Holmes is out for the season, guys that they
- 17:25Speaker 2: paid like Sean Mania is a long man in the bullpen.
- 17:27Speaker 2: He's terrible, David Peterson's terrible, Kodi Sanga's hurt. Nolan McLain,
- 17:31Speaker 2: who we all saw a pitch for Team USA and
- 17:33Speaker 2: I got a lot of flaks saying the kid is
- 17:35Speaker 2: not ready right, he had like eight great starts at
- 17:37Speaker 2: the end of the Mets season that did not matter,
- 17:39Speaker 2: and everybody was saying he's going to be cy young
- 17:41Speaker 2: Rookie of the year.
- 17:42Speaker 3: He's been shaky.
- 17:43Speaker 2: So you're looking at a group of young kids that
- 17:45Speaker 2: have been called up too with the Mets that they're
- 17:47Speaker 2: just getting their feet wet. They're just trying to figure
- 17:48Speaker 2: it out. And last, but not least, Carlos Mendoza is
- 17:51Speaker 2: a manager who's a dead man walking.
- 17:52Speaker 3: We all know it. He should have been fired after
- 17:54Speaker 3: the collapse of last year. They could have fired him.
- 17:56Speaker 2: After the you know, eleven game losing streak this year,
- 17:58Speaker 2: they could have fired him.
- 18:00Speaker 3: They're just going through the motions.
- 18:01Speaker 2: So I expect the Mariners to sweep them and we'll
- 18:04Speaker 2: get them last year. I'm a Yankee fan. We'll get
- 18:06Speaker 2: them last year in New York And yeah, they should
- 18:09Speaker 2: sell off. They should sell as much as they can,
- 18:10Speaker 2: and David Sterns will have a smug look on his
- 18:13Speaker 2: face and talk about.
- 18:14Speaker 3: Their plans for the future.
- 18:15Speaker 2: But like it kind of serves the Mets fan right
- 18:17Speaker 2: because here in New York they threw a whole damn
- 18:19Speaker 2: parade for Juan Soto going from the Yankees to the Mets,
- 18:23Speaker 2: as if that promised them trips to the World Series
- 18:26Speaker 2: for the next fifteen years. And nope, what can happen?
- 18:29Speaker 2: Will only the Mets can out Mets, the Mets.
- 18:31Speaker 1: The Verbs and metsa sizing out messing the Mets.
- 18:36Speaker 6: Greg has a big assignment. He has to rank his
- 18:39Speaker 6: top one hundred movies. All right, We're not going to
- 18:42Speaker 6: do that to you, Keith. Sports sports movies. That has
- 18:45Speaker 6: excused me, Yes, sports movies. So what I want to know, Keith?
- 18:47Speaker 6: What are your top five sports movies all time?
- 18:52Speaker 3: Oh?
- 18:52Speaker 2: Man, I feel like I got put to the test
- 18:54Speaker 2: with this and I couldn't do all sports. I think
- 18:56Speaker 2: I narrated to like football. I grew up playing.
- 18:58Speaker 3: Football and big football players. Uh all right, I'm a
- 19:01Speaker 3: big football player. Yeah, I played the backyard. Now, I
- 19:04Speaker 3: used to be a college football player, big football fan.
- 19:08Speaker 2: My favorite football movies were Friday Night Light, The Program,
- 19:12Speaker 2: Varsity Blues. I always love the Sandlot growing up.
- 19:16Speaker 4: There you go.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Whatever baseball movies like. I had never seen Field of Dreams.
- 19:22Speaker 2: I had never seen Bull Durham until recently, and I
- 19:24Speaker 2: couldn't make it thirty minutes into either one of those?
- 19:28Speaker 3: Can I think of a basketball movie that I like?
- 19:31Speaker 4: Loving Basketball The Six Man?
- 19:33Speaker 3: Loving Basketball was cool? But I don't know. I never
- 19:36Speaker 3: I never dated girls that.
- 19:37Speaker 2: Were like, really athletics play basketball like, nothing like that.
- 19:40Speaker 3: I was always like, I played, I played sports. I'm
- 19:43Speaker 3: not looking for.
- 19:46Speaker 4: Trouble man.
- 19:48Speaker 2: No, I'm married. My my wife played no sports. She
- 19:51Speaker 2: thinks the did gymnastica in high school.
- 19:53Speaker 3: That was it.
- 19:53Speaker 7: He wouldn't take no offense to its.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Key mcfriends, Would we appreciate joining us, have fun and

- 20:39Speaker 4: And man, we have broken a record on the text
- 20:41Speaker 4: line coming out of checks line four nine four five.
- 20:44Speaker 6: Let me just apologize. Now we are not going to
- 20:46Speaker 6: going to be able to get to all of them.
- 20:48Speaker 1: No, they're hundreds, I mean maybe twice as many as
- 20:52Speaker 1: we've ever had.
- 20:52Speaker 4: About one subject on our show, the.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Top three sports movies of all time, and there are
- 20:58Speaker 1: some good ones on there had forgotten about. We'll read
- 21:01Speaker 1: that back next and dalso what to do with JP Crawford,
- 21:04Speaker 1: Do you trust in the Seahawks sale doing the right thing?
- 21:07Speaker 1: Jody Allen and Burke Cole for the Civic Trust. We'll

- 21:13Speaker 8: Now back to Greg Bell and Christopher Kidd on Your

- 21:37Speaker 6: Look, man, don't matter to me, you know if you know, I.
- 21:40Speaker 7: Just gotta know, you know, if it don't matter, what's
- 21:44Speaker 7: the big deal?
- 21:46Speaker 6: I gotta know? No what you know what I gotta know?
- 21:50Speaker 6: Don't mess with my mind?
- 21:51Speaker 4: Like coach, you've been keeping p d out and the
- 21:53Speaker 4: Shawn for too long?
- 21:54Speaker 3: Bro?
- 21:59Speaker 4: Is that your favorite one?
- 22:00Speaker 6: It's not one. No, it was the funny clip that
- 22:04Speaker 6: I remember because after he Sunshine kisses birds here. Do
- 22:08Speaker 6: you remember that scene in the locker room and he's like,
- 22:10Speaker 6: you know what I want? Kisses him and then he
- 22:12Speaker 6: tells Julius. Julius is like he did what? And then
- 22:17Speaker 6: he comes over. He's like, come on, man, you know,
- 22:18Speaker 6: I just got to know. You know, you could tell
- 22:21Speaker 6: him your roommate, know what, Pete? You know, man, I
- 22:24Speaker 6: gotta know, like, don't play dumb's and he's Sunshine's like
- 22:29Speaker 6: you what's going on classic movie.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Why is Chris playing it? Because we asked at the
- 22:34Speaker 1: top of the show, the top three sports.
- 22:36Speaker 4: Movies of all time that you've watched.
- 22:38Speaker 1: I was asked by Seaton Hall University to be part
- 22:40Speaker 1: of a top one hundred sports movies of all time,
- 22:42Speaker 1: and I thought, I don't know if I've seen a
- 22:44Speaker 1: hundred sports movies.
- 22:45Speaker 4: Then we started rattling off some of the movies.
- 22:47Speaker 1: You came up with a ton of really good ones,
- 22:51Speaker 1: and we had more responses to this than any singular subject.
- 22:55Speaker 1: There's also some good ones in here about what to
- 22:56Speaker 1: do with JP Crawford and what the trust is in
- 23:00Speaker 1: the Civic Trust and Jody Allen, Paul Allen did Paul aland.
- 23:04Speaker 4: Trust to sell to the right Seahawks bidder?
- 23:08Speaker 6: You ready to get some text in?
- 23:10Speaker 4: Yeah? What of thee man?
- 23:13Speaker 6: I'll start with this one because State Championship Track and Field.
- 23:18Speaker 6: Hey kid, I'm going to the state track meet tonight,
- 23:20Speaker 6: meeting up with old buddies I haven't seen in a while,
- 23:23Speaker 6: like Matt Donnelly State champion and mile All American, Kurt
- 23:27Speaker 6: Corvin State champion two mile All American, and many others.
- 23:30Speaker 6: To see this fifteen year old in the mile, he
- 23:32Speaker 6: might go four to oh four or faster. Also, meeting
- 23:36Speaker 6: up with the legend Tim Manson, former eight hundred champion,
- 23:39Speaker 6: should be an awesome night. Yeah, I'm jealous. It'll be
- 23:42Speaker 6: a definitely awesome night, So enjoy it. It's always good
- 23:45Speaker 6: seeing these young kids showing off their skills on the
- 23:48Speaker 6: track and field.
- 23:49Speaker 4: Can you imagine running four oh four in a mile
- 23:51Speaker 4: at fifteen?
- 23:53Speaker 6: No, I was a sprinter, so that was not all.
- 23:58Speaker 6: Excuse me, it felt like eon I couldn't do it.
- 24:00Speaker 4: But now you're doing Steward Park.
- 24:02Speaker 6: Oh yeah, I love it. I love long distance running now,
- 24:04Speaker 6: Like I told you, I've gained a respect for it
- 24:07Speaker 6: and learned so much. Top three movies from the two
- 24:10Speaker 6: o six Miracle The Rookie Coming to a number three
- 24:14Speaker 6: of the Sandlot Miracle is a good.
- 24:16Speaker 4: One, really, I mean the story, it's it's just timeless.
- 24:19Speaker 1: And the fact at nineteen eighty gold Medal US Hockey
- 24:24Speaker 1: per Russell.
- 24:26Speaker 6: From the two five to three Sandlot number one, No contest,
- 24:30Speaker 6: Number two, remember the Titans, and number three Happy.
- 24:33Speaker 4: Gilmore, Happy Gilmore.
- 24:35Speaker 6: I'm not gonna lie. I didn't know Happy Gilmore will
- 24:37Speaker 6: crack anybody's top three, but it's funny. It's a great comedy.
- 24:42Speaker 6: It's Adam Sandler. Just oh, speaking of that, guess who
- 24:45Speaker 6: just texted in our guy Marcus out of the two
- 24:47Speaker 6: O six he says, the Sandlot remember the Titans and
- 24:51Speaker 6: he got game?
- 24:52Speaker 4: All right, Spike Lee fan pretty six.
- 24:56Speaker 1: So favorite three car my three fait. Top three favorite
- 25:00Speaker 1: car racing movies are Rush, directed by Ron Howard. F
- 25:04Speaker 1: one f one was a very good film.
- 25:07Speaker 6: Oh wow, Jackson, I saw it early. Yeah, that was
- 25:11Speaker 6: that was really good.
- 25:13Speaker 4: Yeah, I went you on your recommendation.
- 25:15Speaker 1: I went with my wife to the Pacific Science Center
- 25:18Speaker 1: and saw it on the Imax screen and man, it
- 25:21Speaker 1: was really good. Yes, and then Lamon starring Steve McQueen.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Any Steve McQueen movies probably worth bringing up.
- 25:27Speaker 4: Four to the Fish at Saint Pittsburgh. There you go.
- 25:31Speaker 1: That's that's a basketball movie about the old ABA and
- 25:34Speaker 1: the Condors in Pittsburgh. They had an ABA team back
- 25:38Speaker 1: in the seventies with the red White ball, but it's
- 25:41Speaker 1: loosely based on that. It's been a while since I've
- 25:44Speaker 1: seen that movie, but it thank you. This former grew
- 25:48Speaker 1: up west of Pittsburgh, thirty minutes outside of Pittsburgh. They
- 25:51Speaker 1: filmed that in the old civic arena of the Igloo
- 25:53Speaker 1: in Pittsburgh. That movie The Fish at Saint Pittsburgh. The
- 25:55Speaker 1: Natural clos six said, yeah, the Luke Gerrig story. Yeah,
- 26:02Speaker 1: from the two oh six. This is puts a smile
- 26:04Speaker 1: on my face.
- 26:05Speaker 6: Little Giants bench warmers and semi pros semi pro is
- 26:10Speaker 6: absolute hilarious. But Little Giants, man, that was a nineties
- 26:14Speaker 6: classic for a kid that was born in you know what,
- 26:17Speaker 6: the nineties Forrest Gump for a sports move for the
- 26:20Speaker 6: four two five, I'm not sure about that. I'm not
- 26:23Speaker 6: going to argue against it, but that is a tough
- 26:25Speaker 6: sale Forrest Gump.
- 26:27Speaker 4: Yes, yeah, he played like it's because he ran I
- 26:30Speaker 4: guess a ping pong in the Olympics.
- 26:33Speaker 6: But that was like twenty minutes of total time, maybe
- 26:37Speaker 6: less than that.
- 26:39Speaker 1: There is a There are a lot of more comments
- 26:41Speaker 1: on the YouTube or YouTube channel nine three three KJR.
- 26:45Speaker 6: Allegedly, No, they probably are.
- 26:47Speaker 1: There are Blade Runner ooh, I've heard only good things
- 26:51Speaker 1: from Anderson and Jackson about that. The thing that is
- 26:55Speaker 1: not a sports movie. Airbud, airbud, right up my alley.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Any given Sunday Marcus, Oh, how did I forget that?
- 27:03Speaker 6: Oh? My goodness, any given Sons.
- 27:05Speaker 1: Went this far into the show without a reference to
- 27:07Speaker 1: that movie. I don't think it was.
- 27:08Speaker 6: A great great it wasn't. But it just gave you
- 27:11Speaker 6: a real life look at football, because that is a
- 27:14Speaker 6: violent sport.
- 27:15Speaker 4: See. I think North Dalla's forties it dated, for sure,
- 27:21Speaker 4: It's dated.
- 27:21Speaker 6: It's all about the messaging. I get it.
- 27:26Speaker 4: A couple on here make me laugh. Caddy Shack.
- 27:28Speaker 1: A couple of votes for Caddy Shack, both on YouTube
- 27:30Speaker 1: and on the the to come on.
- 27:33Speaker 4: To text line four nine four five one.
- 27:37Speaker 6: We are Marshall from the Tools Set.
- 27:39Speaker 4: That's another.
- 27:39Speaker 6: That's a good one.
- 27:40Speaker 4: That's also from a book.
- 27:42Speaker 1: I'm partially maybe because I'm a writer, probably because I'm
- 27:44Speaker 1: a writer, I'm partial to the books and then they
- 27:46Speaker 1: make them in the movies, and I always say the
- 27:47Speaker 1: book's better. Boys in the Boat is the same way I.
- 27:51Speaker 4: Know the author. I've met the author.
- 27:52Speaker 1: I don't know him, but I've met the author and
- 27:54Speaker 1: done stories about the writing of the book and knew
- 27:57Speaker 1: it had movie rights. And to me, the book is
- 27:59Speaker 1: far superior, gets into the characters more than the movie,
- 28:02Speaker 1: same with Moneyball, that the book was much better.
- 28:06Speaker 4: Than the movie.
- 28:08Speaker 6: Necessary roughness From the two o six is that the
- 28:11Speaker 6: one about I've never heard of?
- 28:13Speaker 4: Is that the one with the google Kathy Ireland as
- 28:15Speaker 4: the kicker and.
- 28:16Speaker 1: I'm gonna go an old forty year old quarterback uneary rough.
- 28:21Speaker 4: I think it is. I think that's what that one is.
- 28:25Speaker 4: Two six says Donovan.
- 28:26Speaker 1: The second Emerson the third young to shortstop as J
- 28:29Speaker 1: K Crawford. He cut him, he's got final. You're his
- 28:33Speaker 1: five year, fifty one million dollar contract. A couple of
- 28:36Speaker 1: you on the text line, including the three six. Oh
- 28:38Speaker 1: put JP Crawford to d H. He's among the team
- 28:41Speaker 1: leaders in op on base percentage, home runs and walks.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Then you can platoon, canzone Raley and Roadbla said right
- 28:48Speaker 1: at three man piggybacking and right field on top of
- 28:52Speaker 1: the pitching staff. Two six, as Donovan will be super utility.
- 28:56Speaker 1: The only place JP going is possibly third base.
- 29:00Speaker 6: From the two o six, Brent is Death Race a
- 29:02Speaker 6: sports movie. It's about racing.
- 29:05Speaker 4: I've never heard of that movie.
- 29:06Speaker 6: It's insane.
- 29:07Speaker 4: You've seen it?
- 29:08Speaker 3: Yes, that is it?
- 29:09Speaker 6: Like it sounds yes, you're racing to the death. If
- 29:13Speaker 6: you don't finish first, you're dead. How does that sound, Greg,
- 29:17Speaker 6: She's she's.
- 29:18Speaker 4: Right, there's some walks of life that are like that.
- 29:20Speaker 6: But she's I guess it's a sport movie, just a
- 29:23Speaker 6: very violet It's just like Gladiator.
- 29:25Speaker 4: Two five three says I trust the Hawks.
- 29:27Speaker 1: How the sale will go? This is a franchise too
- 29:29Speaker 1: great to worry about you about it? Four two five
- 29:32Speaker 1: says I trust Jody Allen since the money is not
- 29:34Speaker 1: going to their pockets.
- 29:35Speaker 4: That's an interesting point. We talked about how the sale beat.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Paul g Allen Trust mandates the sale proceeds most of
- 29:41Speaker 1: them beyond the sale cost. Most of the proceeds have
- 29:45Speaker 1: to go to Alan Paul g Allen's philanthropic interest, and
- 29:48Speaker 1: that does change it.
- 29:50Speaker 4: We didn't go ahead.
- 29:51Speaker 6: We didn't say this movie, did we? And this is
- 29:52Speaker 6: from the two o six and the four two five
- 29:55Speaker 6: Coach Carter, No, it's a really good one.
- 29:57Speaker 4: It is.
- 29:58Speaker 6: Samuel did a really good job on that role.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Coach Jackson, Yeah, that was that was a good movie.
- 30:03Speaker 1: Carrying the bat through the Halls group. Can you imagine
- 30:07Speaker 1: doing that today? Yeah, you would not be a coach
- 30:09Speaker 1: any longer be in CPS jail, fag, you would be
- 30:12Speaker 1: fired and no one would touch you with a pole. No,
- 30:15Speaker 1: So forty five Angels in the outfield, Remember the Titans,
- 30:19Speaker 1: Mighty Ducks, the Replacements, Cool Runnings seven to one to two,
- 30:26Speaker 1: Pride of the Yankees, Little Big League, the Sandlot two
- 30:30Speaker 1: o six, the longest Yard.
- 30:32Speaker 4: Someone in my age demographic apparently.
- 30:37Speaker 6: All right, here we go from the two six, sixty
- 30:40Speaker 6: one and forty two great films. Haven't seen sixty.
- 30:43Speaker 1: One forty two of the Jackie Robinson I've seen forty
- 30:46Speaker 1: two though, Okay, good, very good.
- 30:50Speaker 6: I'm shocked no one has said Rudy. Actually two o
- 30:52Speaker 6: six someone did mention Rudy and it was maybe an
- 30:55Speaker 6: hour ago. I'm not sure I know you mentioned it, Greg.
- 30:58Speaker 4: Yeah, Rudy was one of them.
- 30:59Speaker 1: Brian saw about Brian Piccolow and Gail Sayers of the
- 31:02Speaker 1: Chicago Bears in the nineteen sixties. Brian piccoll dying prematurely
- 31:06Speaker 1: cancer thirty six.
- 31:08Speaker 6: So the blind Side Michael Or story.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Yes, I was good. Also a book. Oh, it was
- 31:16Speaker 1: in a good book. You've read all the books on
- 31:19Speaker 1: these sports things, haven't you.
- 31:20Speaker 4: Well, I do. Yeah, it's cool.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Okay, and then when I read the book, I tend
- 31:24Speaker 1: not to see the movie. Can't blame you. I did
- 31:26Speaker 1: see Boys in the Boat and I was underwhelmed compared
- 31:29Speaker 1: to the book. It's just natural that the book's going
- 31:31Speaker 1: to go deeper into the characters and have more time,
- 31:33Speaker 1: and movies have for marketing purposes, have to fit a
- 31:36Speaker 1: certain time frame two hours or whatever it do? What
- 31:40Speaker 1: is bed knobs and Broomsticks two oh six?
- 31:43Speaker 4: Had a frame? To google it?
- 31:47Speaker 1: Yeah, don't do it on the work computer. Ooh, the
- 31:50Speaker 1: greatest game ever played?
- 31:53Speaker 4: Four? Two five?
- 31:54Speaker 3: Hm? What is it?
- 31:56Speaker 1: I vaguely know it, but I know I'm not even
- 31:59Speaker 1: to comment because I don't want to wrong.
- 32:00Speaker 4: I haven't seen.
- 32:01Speaker 6: It, all right, fair enough? Have you seen Hoop Dream
- 32:04Speaker 6: from the two five three? That's a really good one. Yes,
- 32:06Speaker 6: it is true story, Yes that is. It's more like
- 32:08Speaker 6: a documentary, but it's.
- 32:09Speaker 1: A documentary of the inner city of Chicago. Two players
- 32:11Speaker 1: that Yeah, that's really good. It's true to life, and
- 32:14Speaker 1: I love I tended like nonfiction and documentaries.
- 32:18Speaker 6: Yeah, maybe that each etches into my top ten.
- 32:20Speaker 4: Yeah that's a good one, man, that's it.
- 32:22Speaker 1: As if you haven't seen it, it's from the nineteen eighties,
- 32:25Speaker 1: but it's really good. The guy, the Chicago basketball player
- 32:29Speaker 1: who gets all the accolades and is the top guy
- 32:32Speaker 1: all through high school, gets the scholarships, but goes away
- 32:36Speaker 1: to school in all unravels, injuries, homesickness, and the kid
- 32:39Speaker 1: who's overlooked the whole time, scrapping just to get on
- 32:43Speaker 1: the team, and he ends up making It's a really
- 32:46Speaker 1: good film and a good story because it's true.
- 32:48Speaker 6: All right, last one for me, as we have the
- 32:51Speaker 6: Mayor on deck. Three movies I can honestly say I've
- 32:54Speaker 6: never heard of. Here we Go, Number one, mistery Alaska,
- 32:58Speaker 6: Number two Men with Brooms and number three Eddie the Eagle.
- 33:03Speaker 1: Eddie the Eagle.
- 33:03Speaker 4: You never saw that about the story of the Great British.
- 33:06Speaker 6: Never seen, never heard of these three movies.
- 33:08Speaker 1: The British ski jumper who made the British Olympic team
- 33:13Speaker 1: because no one else was ski jumping in Great Britain.
- 33:15Speaker 6: Oh wow, that's that's deep.
- 33:17Speaker 1: He was not at all qualified to be in the Olympics,
- 33:20Speaker 1: yet he made the Olympics. And then when he did
- 33:22Speaker 1: the Olympics, he was like tens of meters short of
- 33:25Speaker 1: everybody else. I mean, it wasn't even closed, but he
- 33:28Speaker 1: was Great Britain's kind of like cool Runnings in the
- 33:31Speaker 1: sense nobody else was doing that sport, so they became
- 33:33Speaker 1: representing the country. Eddie the Eagle became a folk hero
- 33:36Speaker 1: in Great Britain for making the Olympic team three six,
- 33:40Speaker 1: so says JP is washed. Thanks for the service that
- 33:44Speaker 1: was simple into the Yeah, that.
- 33:45Speaker 4: Was two five to three the rookie four to five
- 33:50Speaker 4: days of thunder. That's another one we didn't mention. Tom Cruise.
- 33:54Speaker 4: Robert Duvall is the crew chief.
- 33:56Speaker 1: I'm gonna think we're gonna ask Ian Fornessa's question, and
- 34:00Speaker 1: you know, it would be funny to ask Ian this
- 34:01Speaker 1: question in Anderson Hurst this question because I have a
- 34:04Speaker 1: feeling they would be disparate answers Anderson with a much
- 34:07Speaker 1: more recently.
- 34:08Speaker 6: I think Anderson will go Sandlot.
- 34:10Speaker 4: I would be disappointed if he didn't.
- 34:12Speaker 1: I think I might even goes Well, I Michael Miracle
- 34:15Speaker 1: being the hockey guy is.
- 34:17Speaker 6: I think maybe a hockey movie for the mayor, but
- 34:20Speaker 6: I think Anderson might go Sandlot. Maybe space Jam that
- 34:26Speaker 6: came out Robin who was born So I don't know
- 34:28Speaker 6: that'd be a tough one.
- 34:30Speaker 4: We will test.
- 34:31Speaker 1: That theory of Christen Mine next when Ian Forness or
- 34:35Speaker 1: Anderson Hurst or both join us.
- 34:36Speaker 4: On ninety three point three kJ r FM.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Careful one the best retort of the best sports movie
- 34:44Speaker 1: ever made, The Sandlot courtesy of Christopher Kidd. That is
- 34:49Speaker 1: my favorite one. Okay, yes, that is I think the
- 34:52Speaker 1: best sports movie ever made. So we asked at the
- 34:54Speaker 1: top of the show at this seton Hall University is
- 34:57Speaker 1: a PhD in marketing.
- 34:58Speaker 4: I've worked with the for the things.
- 35:00Speaker 1: He sent me a note today asking me to be
- 35:03Speaker 1: a part of sports Seaton Hall University ranking the top
- 35:05Speaker 1: one hundred sports movies of all time, and I thought, oh,
- 35:09Speaker 1: I don't know if i've heard.
- 35:10Speaker 7: Are there a hundred sports movies?
- 35:12Speaker 1: If you if you've there's a lot of genres, Chris
- 35:14Speaker 1: and I did, you can get to probably a thousand.
- 35:16Speaker 1: Oh wow, I mean we're talking like Tyler Dad Knights
- 35:19Speaker 1: is a sports movie, right, Blades of Glory? Yeah, okay, yeah, yeah, ok.
- 35:23Speaker 1: It's a bunch that someone tried to tell me on
- 35:26Speaker 1: text line The Gladiators a sports movie.
- 35:27Speaker 4: But I'm like.
- 35:29Speaker 1: Cherots of Fires, technically sure, stuff like that cherits fire
- 35:33Speaker 1: is boring.
- 35:35Speaker 4: I agree. Sorry.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Okay, So Chris and I have theories on what you
- 35:39Speaker 1: all will say. You both will say are the best
- 35:41Speaker 1: sports movies of all time. We it's the most feedback
- 35:45Speaker 1: we've ever gotten on the show, our first iteration sports
- 35:48Speaker 1: radio out there, so we had a lot of good
- 35:52Speaker 1: ones that we had forgotten too. So, gentlemen Anderson, Hurst
- 35:57Speaker 1: and Infiness, what are your best sports movies of all time?
- 36:01Speaker 6: First, I want to know what you think my favorite is.
- 36:04Speaker 1: We said it would be The Sandlot, but then we
- 36:06Speaker 1: said maybe that's too old, and you.
- 36:08Speaker 9: Were born like Beckham. I actually don't like any soccer
- 36:14Speaker 9: sports movies. There's not a very many good ones unfortunately.
- 36:18Speaker 1: Feature film, not the documentary, the Pelee feature film recent
- 36:22Speaker 1: ten years ago. Yeah, I haven't seen it yet. Okay,
- 36:25Speaker 1: So what are your three?
- 36:26Speaker 9: My number one, hammer by like a pretty large distance
- 36:30Speaker 9: is Remember the Titans. Okay, Yeah, it's just it's a classic. Yeah,
- 36:36Speaker 9: gets a little disney fied sometimes, but I like the message.
- 36:41Speaker 9: I like the the acting's fantastic. You get some stars
- 36:44Speaker 9: in there, you got Denzel, you got Ryan Gosling, just
- 36:46Speaker 9: a bunch of others as well.
- 36:47Speaker 10: You know, By the way, Andrews and Jackson Kid do
- 36:50Speaker 10: like a movie podcast. We did We actually did this.
- 36:53Speaker 10: They're going to give you like he's gonna give you
- 36:55Speaker 10: and everything like that. I'm just going to give you
- 36:56Speaker 10: a list. Okay, I have a new guest on you.
- 37:00Speaker 10: By the way, I just thought of it.
- 37:02Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean, I just remember The Titans is so good.
- 37:03Speaker 9: It's it's one that sticks with me. I'm actually as
- 37:05Speaker 9: a sports fan and a movie fan, I don't love
- 37:08Speaker 9: a lot of sports movies, to be completely honest. Maybe
- 37:11Speaker 9: it's just because I watch so many sports and I
- 37:15Speaker 9: like the the reality of it all that it like
- 37:17Speaker 9: being turned into a movie. You can sometimes feel disingenuous
- 37:20Speaker 9: to me, but there are cases where it's done right,
- 37:22Speaker 9: and I think, remember the Titans is my number one
- 37:25Speaker 9: for me.
- 37:25Speaker 10: A slap shot I knew you, Yeah, has a break,
- 37:28Speaker 10: I said, he's gonna say. I mean, here's what I
- 37:32Speaker 10: what Anderson is. I agree, like sometimes if you're watching
- 37:35Speaker 10: a movie, you want to escape the reality of the world.
- 37:38Speaker 10: So but the thing with Slapshot is it's very real.
- 37:44Speaker 10: Like it's very real.
- 37:45Speaker 8: Now.
- 37:45Speaker 10: It's embellished and there's some stuff, but the seventies and
- 37:49Speaker 10: eighties minor league hockey.
- 37:51Speaker 7: That is it like I lived it, like.
- 37:53Speaker 4: It's also that part of the world I grew up there.
- 37:56Speaker 1: Yeah, it's depicted after Johnstown, Pennsylvania, right.
- 37:59Speaker 10: And that's but the like basically that league would be like,
- 38:03Speaker 10: you know, a precursor to the East Coast League or something,
- 38:05Speaker 10: which we call it the Jungle, and that's I mean,
- 38:07Speaker 10: that's a you're you're grinding. I mean, god, I I
- 38:11Speaker 10: can't tell you how many times on the VHS on
- 38:14Speaker 10: a bus we watched that movie both Tri Cities and
- 38:16Speaker 10: Seattle with the Americans and the Thunderbirds when I was
- 38:18Speaker 10: doing juniors.
- 38:19Speaker 7: But I love, I love.
- 38:21Speaker 10: I mean, see to me, like a great movie is
- 38:24Speaker 10: if it's on, like you're flipping around the TV. It's
- 38:26Speaker 10: on T n T or TV stop and you stop
- 38:29Speaker 10: Like for me, I mean a few Good Men period
- 38:31Speaker 10: d of story always if it's on, like you know
- 38:33Speaker 10: every line you've watched it. Yeah, I mean just the
- 38:36Speaker 10: whole movie, the whole thing. It's like, oh, a few
- 38:38Speaker 10: good Men's I'm gonna flip that on. Uh, slapshots a
- 38:40Speaker 10: little different because to really get the full effect you
- 38:43Speaker 10: got to watch it unedited. I would put slaps hoosiers.
- 38:47Speaker 10: I just again again kind of there's a reality feel
- 38:51Speaker 10: to it. It's a little not I mean, it's just
- 38:53Speaker 10: a miracle miracles, Okay, I thought that.
- 38:55Speaker 4: Was gonna be your first number on the thing. The
- 38:58Speaker 4: miracle is the top miracle.
- 39:00Speaker 10: I just think like the I think it's Netflix, just
- 39:04Speaker 10: to the documentary on that team I thought was way better,
- 39:06Speaker 10: was more real. I mean, it's the guys, right, but
- 39:09Speaker 10: I yeah, slap shots.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Who's your lot on the text line? And I think
- 39:13Speaker 1: you probably like Mystery Alaska?
- 39:15Speaker 7: Good movie? Yeah, good movie. I liked it. Yeah, I
- 39:18Speaker 7: like that movie a lot. I haven't seen it forever.
- 39:19Speaker 10: It's one of those movies I probably need to go
- 39:20Speaker 10: back in washing Caddy shocks up there. I like Bull
- 39:25Speaker 10: Durham and again it's just having worked in it's.
- 39:28Speaker 4: Surrounded for me.
- 39:29Speaker 10: Yeah, but that guy okay, yeah, but again I'll go
- 39:33Speaker 10: back just as a guy that grinded through minor leagues
- 39:36Speaker 10: and minor league baseball too. It's it's there's a very
- 39:39Speaker 10: for me, were very relatable.
- 39:42Speaker 7: I think Friday Night Lights.
- 39:44Speaker 1: Oh that's books better than the movie though, yeah, book
- 39:48Speaker 1: movie show.
- 39:48Speaker 6: The show is awesome.
- 39:50Speaker 10: The show is phenomenal, freaking phenomenalore because it's so good.
- 39:54Speaker 7: Yeah, the show is, the series itself is awesome.
- 39:57Speaker 6: It's one of the best shows I've ever seen.
- 39:58Speaker 10: Yeah, clear it was clear Mind, clear eyes, clear heart,
- 40:01Speaker 10: whatever that is. Yeah, I know, but I I those
- 40:04Speaker 10: ones jump out, you know, if I want to go
- 40:05Speaker 10: even I kind of like Varsity Blues.
- 40:08Speaker 6: Off the cuff there.
- 40:09Speaker 3: I like that.
- 40:09Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, I like that as well.
- 40:11Speaker 3: Kid, what was kid?
- 40:12Speaker 4: What was your favorite? Oh it's I you haven't declared
- 40:15Speaker 4: your favorite.
- 40:16Speaker 7: Actually you said love and Basketball?
- 40:17Speaker 6: No, no, it would probably be maybe he got Game fantastic?
- 40:22Speaker 7: So what about White Man Can't Jump?
- 40:24Speaker 6: That's up there.
- 40:25Speaker 1: That said my daughter's top three, she texted me when
- 40:27Speaker 1: it's a really good movie, right, Yeah, Yeah, it's just tough.
- 40:31Speaker 6: I couldn't really come up with my top three because
- 40:33Speaker 6: I feel like i'm a I thought about this jam
- 40:36Speaker 6: that's another one, and that's a great one. You're talking
- 40:40Speaker 6: about Michael Jordan acting, and he did a pretty damn
- 40:42Speaker 6: good job.
- 40:42Speaker 4: Actually, yeah, I would push the Rocky movies way down.
- 40:47Speaker 7: But well, yeah, I was just gonna ask you, what
- 40:50Speaker 7: does that rank?
- 40:50Speaker 4: I think they're way down.
- 40:52Speaker 1: They're so fictionalized yeah, I.
- 40:56Speaker 4: Mean the story itself.
- 40:57Speaker 10: Okay, you almost have to kind of step like, like,
- 41:00Speaker 10: what's the best of the best of them?
- 41:01Speaker 8: Right?
- 41:01Speaker 7: I ain't Rocky too the best.
- 41:04Speaker 10: But that's someone that died in No, he'd bright in three.
- 41:08Speaker 4: Oh.
- 41:09Speaker 6: So then where do you stand on Creed?
- 41:12Speaker 7: I've never seen.
- 41:14Speaker 1: I've never seen the modern day Rocky for the kid,
- 41:16Speaker 1: it's really good.
- 41:17Speaker 6: Have you seen it?
- 41:17Speaker 4: Greg? No?
- 41:18Speaker 3: Oh?
- 41:19Speaker 6: Okay?
- 41:19Speaker 1: And my sons Jordan man, Yeah, my son's one of
- 41:23Speaker 1: those that think Michael B. Jordan's anything, it's the best movie.
- 41:26Speaker 7: Have you Anders? Have you seen Slapshot?
- 41:28Speaker 6: I did? It was a while you watch it When
- 41:31Speaker 6: I was a little kid.
- 41:31Speaker 9: My I started watching a bunch of sports movies and
- 41:33Speaker 9: my dad showed it to me with all the other ones.
- 41:35Speaker 9: But I haven't seen it since.
- 41:38Speaker 3: Unedited.
- 41:40Speaker 1: Yeah, two six and the world's fastest Indian do yourself
- 41:44Speaker 1: a favorite?
- 41:45Speaker 4: See this true story as well? I've heard of that.
- 41:47Speaker 7: I heard of that.
- 41:48Speaker 1: My wife wants to see that. Okay, so I gonna
- 41:51Speaker 1: ask you what you're doing today because Chris gonna.
- 41:53Speaker 10: Make Yeah, We're gonna talk a little obviously about I
- 41:57Speaker 10: will pose a question about the Seahawks sale I know
- 41:59Speaker 10: you did a little bit earlier as well, go a
- 42:00Speaker 10: little different directions. We'll touch it on that. Then you know,
- 42:03Speaker 10: Sarah's joined. Just in the one o'clock I talk all
- 42:05Speaker 10: things baseball, and then Corbyn is going to pop on
- 42:07Speaker 10: at two o'clock and uh and go from there a
- 42:09Speaker 10: little more.
- 42:09Speaker 7: See how conversation.
- 42:11Speaker 10: Unlike the three to seven show, I I do enjoy
- 42:13Speaker 10: talking Seahawks for the off season.
- 42:17Speaker 4: My takeaways.
- 42:19Speaker 10: Honestly, I think the one takeaway and I'll I'll talk
- 42:22Speaker 10: about this with Corbyn as well. And and you know, Greg,
- 42:25Speaker 10: I just thought it was really speaks to the culture
- 42:28Speaker 10: of the team. Watching how Tylecotta dealt with Bud Clark,
- 42:32Speaker 10: I thought that just speaks. That's the the buy in
- 42:34Speaker 10: factor for this team is it is just so different
- 42:37Speaker 10: than twenty thirteen. Not that either is better or worse,
- 42:39Speaker 10: it's just a different It's just a different vibeles the
- 42:42Speaker 10: same thing with the gray label last year. That's that's
- 42:44Speaker 10: you just but they're not competing for the same spot.
- 42:47Speaker 7: Correct, Yeah, it.
- 42:48Speaker 1: Different, but it's by the way, Tylecotta is Sean mcvaghan voice, Yes,
- 42:52Speaker 1: my god, he is.
- 42:55Speaker 10: It was wild when when he spoke right away. On
- 42:58Speaker 10: the text line on Tuesday, people were saying, God, he
- 43:00Speaker 10: sounds like Mike McDonald. He what he says are Mike
- 43:04Speaker 10: McDonald's worst parents parents McDonald while sounding like Sean McVay.
- 43:08Speaker 10: And there's a little bit of John Gruden tossed in
- 43:10Speaker 10: there as well. Fat So yeah, he's tell me that
- 43:14Speaker 10: guy's not going to be a coach. God like and
- 43:17Speaker 10: a good one.
- 43:17Speaker 4: My Sannah State popcat.
- 43:19Speaker 7: Oh yeah, I enjoy. Yeah, he was fantastic.
- 43:21Speaker 3: So yeah.
- 43:21Speaker 7: Busy show coming.
- 43:22Speaker 4: That's in and Anderson Hurst.
- 43:24Speaker 1: Jessaman maacuitar' is that celebrating her father among other things
- 43:27Speaker 1: on the East Coast. So it's in and Anderson next,
