- 0:00Speaker 1: Tracks the Galaxy's most unpredictable Star Trek podcast.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Ladies and gentlemen, Welcome to Trek Cast, the Galaxy's most
- 0:20Speaker 2: unpredictable Star Trek podcast. I'm one of your co hosts,
- 0:23Speaker 2: Scott with me as always is Uh Daniel.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Uh, We've got.
- 0:28Speaker 2: We've got a special episode today. We're doing an interview
- 0:33Speaker 2: with the CEO.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Of the missile company.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Uh and Uh Daniel, you want to go ahead and
- 0:41Speaker 2: take over?
- 0:41Speaker 4: And yeah, yeah, this is Brian. Hey, Brian, how are
- 0:44Speaker 4: you doing.
- 0:44Speaker 5: I'm good, how are you doing? That's thank you, Scott.
- 0:48Speaker 6: Absolutely so, we're really excited that the figures were announced.
- 0:53Speaker 6: We got the picture of the figures up right here. Yeah,
- 0:56Speaker 6: the first wave. We we all have our favorites.
- 0:59Speaker 4: We're all pretty excited.
- 1:00Speaker 6: So tell us a little bit about how how Naseell
- 1:03Speaker 6: was able to get this license.
- 1:06Speaker 5: I mean, my official answer is I have absolutely no idea.
- 1:10Speaker 5: I cannot believe this happened. But I guess I'll tell
- 1:14Speaker 5: you what happened, Okay, truth, but I still don't understand
- 1:19Speaker 5: why it worked. So we were able very very very randomly,
- 1:27Speaker 5: very randomly to get the rights to do the Expanse toys.
- 1:34Speaker 5: So uh. And when I say randomly, I literally had
- 1:38Speaker 5: a meeting with al Con to talk about something that
- 1:44Speaker 5: had nothing to do with the Expanse, and then they
- 1:49Speaker 5: were like hey. One of the people in the meeting
- 1:51Speaker 5: was like, hey, I follow you on Instagram and I
- 1:56Speaker 5: just saw that you are making toys. Now, how come
- 2:00Speaker 5: you're not asking us to do the expanse toys? And
- 2:04Speaker 5: I was like, well, because it didn't occur to me.
- 2:06Speaker 5: We've only been making toys for a year. Long story short,
- 2:09Speaker 5: we got the rights to do the Expanse. So that's
- 2:12Speaker 5: Exhibit A. And I'm not a lawyer, but we're going
- 2:15Speaker 5: to use exhibits. Exhibit B was we had a meeting
- 2:22Speaker 5: at some point. I won't say with who or where,
- 2:25Speaker 5: what or why, but I had a meeting and in
- 2:27Speaker 5: that meeting I randomly found out that Playmates was basically
- 2:33Speaker 5: not making more figures.
- 2:36Speaker 4: That's okay, B y C was.
- 2:41Speaker 5: I asked the head of our consumer products division if
- 2:44Speaker 5: he knew anybody at Paramount. Of course, he said yes.
- 2:47Speaker 5: He reached out said hey, we're interested in throwing our
- 2:50Speaker 5: hat in the ring. Can we make the Star Trek toys?
- 2:53Speaker 5: They were like, well, let's set up a pitch. So
- 2:56Speaker 5: we set up a pitch, and the pitch was basically
- 3:01Speaker 5: what everybody's gonna see in waves one, two, and three,
- 3:06Speaker 5: though we've pivoted a little bit, which we can talk
- 3:09Speaker 5: about later, but because we're gonna be doing more. The
- 3:13Speaker 5: original idea behind the line was to really focus on
- 3:18Speaker 5: characters that had never been made before, but also famous
- 3:24Speaker 5: characters Captain Kirk, you know, Beverly Crusher or Picard whatever
- 3:28Speaker 5: that had been made, but doing them in costumes that
- 3:33Speaker 5: had never been made before. Okay, So, as you may know,
- 3:38Speaker 5: when we announced the line, we put out an email
- 3:40Speaker 5: address so fans could talk to us, and the most
- 3:45Speaker 5: common thought we got was, Yo, your figures look great,
- 3:49Speaker 5: but why aren't you doing this for Captain Kirk? And
- 3:53Speaker 5: is you know maroon costume? Why aren't you doing Captain
- 3:57Speaker 5: Picard yet? It So we took that advice and we
- 4:01Speaker 5: are absolutely going to be doing Bridge crews in their
- 4:05Speaker 5: traditional uniforms. But other than that, we basically, I mean,
- 4:13Speaker 5: what you're looking at right now, only Captain Archer wasn't
- 4:20Speaker 5: in the initial pitch to paramount everybody else was in.
- 4:25Speaker 4: It will cause that change.
- 4:28Speaker 5: I mean, what caused the change was seeing those emails
- 4:32Speaker 5: and we got well over two thousand at this point
- 4:35Speaker 5: over three thousand. But the gist of there were two
- 4:39Speaker 5: notes that came up over and over and over again.
- 4:43Speaker 5: One was what I said, you know who we're like,
- 4:46Speaker 5: do to bridge crews? Do the bridge crewse and not.
- 4:49Speaker 5: Two was like so many of the people who did
- 4:53Speaker 5: the toys before us stopped after three figures or six figures,
- 5:00Speaker 5: asked paramounts Blessing to go to eight and they said
- 5:04Speaker 5: yes immediately. And Archer was one of the people we added.
- 5:09Speaker 5: And that was the reason we chose Archer was because
- 5:15Speaker 5: that was the feedback we got about doing some of
- 5:18Speaker 5: the bigger characters.
- 5:20Speaker 4: Oh, right on, right on.
- 5:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:23Speaker 6: You know, one of the questions we put in our
- 5:25Speaker 6: group that we were gonna interview you, and one of
- 5:27Speaker 6: the first questions we got was being at the new scale?
- 5:30Speaker 6: Right these are six inch compared to like the playmates
- 5:34Speaker 6: for will these being scaled to the new or to
- 5:38Speaker 6: the old diamond select toys?
- 5:40Speaker 5: Yes? Okay, so yes, and again you know with Treky's
- 5:45Speaker 5: just to be clear of which I am, you know
- 5:49Speaker 5: with Treky is you gotta be real specific. So if
- 5:52Speaker 5: somebody's in there with like a laser ruler. They're probably
- 5:56Speaker 5: not to scale right if a normal person out any
- 6:00Speaker 5: tools is looking at him, yes, should be very very similar.
- 6:04Speaker 5: And just to be clear, there are six to seven
- 6:07Speaker 5: inches oh okay, technically one twelfth scale okay. And the
- 6:13Speaker 5: reason I point that out is obviously Neelix is not
- 6:17Speaker 5: as big as a Narskim. So, like I can tell
- 6:21Speaker 5: from your background, Scott, you know what I mean.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Right, yeah, Star Trek fans are a bit of a
- 6:29Speaker 2: nitpicky bunch, aren't we.
- 6:31Speaker 5: We are?
- 6:31Speaker 7: But I will tell you this, Like I said, man,
- 6:34Speaker 7: we got way over two thousand emails, and a lot
- 6:37Speaker 7: of those emails were telling me that I had kind
- 6:41Speaker 7: of messed up by not doing the bridge cruise.
- 6:44Speaker 4: Oh wow.
- 6:45Speaker 5: We didn't get a single email about that topic and
- 6:50Speaker 5: any topic also, But everybody was cool. Everybody said some
- 6:56Speaker 5: version of hey, this is meant to be constructive. Please
- 6:59Speaker 5: don't take this as me being a jerk. I'm rooting
- 7:02Speaker 5: for you to succeed. But right lowk aren't you doing
- 7:06Speaker 5: Kirk in his maroon? So that so, really everybody was cool,
- 7:12Speaker 5: I asked him, very proud. I want to brag about
- 7:14Speaker 5: this on Sunday. Uh, huh, finished responding to every single email.
- 7:19Speaker 4: Oh nice.
- 7:20Speaker 5: Now I'm behind on what's come in Monday and today, okay,
- 7:23Speaker 5: because we're getting twenty to fifty emails a day still,
- 7:27Speaker 5: oh wow, and I love reading them. But but that's
- 7:31Speaker 5: that's basically what happened.
- 7:33Speaker 6: You know, I heard an interview with you on the
- 7:36Speaker 6: Reluctant Adult podcast and you had mentioned that in wave
- 7:39Speaker 6: two there was going to be a Kirk. Yeah, but
- 7:42Speaker 6: the thing you did not mention was which kirk. As
- 7:45Speaker 6: far as like Shatner, Pine Weslie, do we know yet?
- 7:50Speaker 5: Okay, you could say it's funny. I couldn't answer the
- 7:53Speaker 5: first part of your question, but I can answer the second.
- 7:57Speaker 5: Is William Shatner's captain?
- 7:58Speaker 4: Okay, Wills?
- 8:00Speaker 3: All right, wonderful, that's great.
- 8:05Speaker 4: Right on.
- 8:06Speaker 6: And then another question we had from our from our
- 8:09Speaker 6: group was what kind of accessories can we expect with
- 8:12Speaker 6: these And remember you mentioned that there was gonna be
- 8:15Speaker 6: accessories with them, but to what level are we talking?
- 8:19Speaker 5: So there's gonna be a lot of accessories. I'm a
- 8:21Speaker 5: big believer in accessories, Like I truly believe in my
- 8:25Speaker 5: world the gold standard figures these days is g I
- 8:29Speaker 5: Joe classified and they I just got the sniper. I
- 8:34Speaker 5: mean she must come with I think she comes with
- 8:37Speaker 5: two backpacks, one of which opens and holds eighty percent
- 8:42Speaker 5: of the rest of the accessories. She comes with a
- 8:45Speaker 5: geelig suit. I hope I pronounced that right, And she
- 8:50Speaker 5: comes with a knife. She comes with a silencer for
- 8:54Speaker 5: her her not her sniper rifle. The other gun she
- 8:57Speaker 5: comes with, So.
- 8:59Speaker 4: Is that the one you're talking about?
- 9:00Speaker 3: That detail?
- 9:02Speaker 5: That's exactly who I'm talking about. She also came with
- 9:06Speaker 5: two heads, three different hair style. I mean, that's what
- 9:10Speaker 5: we're going to be doing. And you know, one of
- 9:12Speaker 5: the things that's very important to me is when as
- 9:16Speaker 5: a buyer of toys but also as a maker of toys,
- 9:22Speaker 5: you really want to do stuff that shows the people
- 9:27Speaker 5: that are spending their money that we get it. So example,
- 9:33Speaker 5: Super seven did a wharf that comes with a cup
- 9:37Speaker 5: of prune juice. I got enough wharfs with they you
- 9:42Speaker 5: know all the they bayliss kless. I'm more of a
- 9:48Speaker 5: federation kind of Checkie and but no, so like, how
- 9:55Speaker 5: many battlests do I need? Right, I don't have any
- 9:59Speaker 5: prune juice cups? So that's that's kind of like our
- 10:04Speaker 5: North Star. Okay, we really want to show the so
- 10:09Speaker 5: like for example, Peter Preston from Star Trek two Rethicon, Yes,
- 10:13Speaker 5: we're gonna have the face mask that plugs into that
- 10:16Speaker 5: silver nipple thing he has. We're gonna come with two
- 10:20Speaker 5: heads spoiler alert, one with massive radiation taps okay, bubvered
- 10:26Speaker 5: in blood. But like also gonna like you have to
- 10:29Speaker 5: assume what didn't we see off camera? You have to
- 10:34Speaker 5: assume he got a communicator. Yeah, assume he got issued
- 10:38Speaker 5: some kind of trand you know, a tricorder, even though
- 10:42Speaker 5: you didn't see him holding a tricorder in the movie.
- 10:47Speaker 5: I hope to have a tricorder. Captain Archers, an engineer, Yeah, exactly,
- 10:53Speaker 5: Uh Archer, he's gonna yes, he's gonna come with a
- 10:59Speaker 5: current reality phaser, an alternative reality phaser. Ditto with the Triquarders.
- 11:06Speaker 5: But I since I saw the episode the first time
- 11:09Speaker 5: A mirror darkly, yeah, I mean, I'm sitting there in
- 11:12Speaker 5: college or whatever I think, watching it, and I'm like,
- 11:16Speaker 5: I don't know if you remember this or not. He uh,
- 11:19Speaker 5: you know you remember Sato poisons his champagne, right, yep?
- 11:25Speaker 5: I don't know about you guys, have you ever poured
- 11:27Speaker 5: champagne into your eyes?
- 11:30Speaker 4: Not into my eyes?
- 11:31Speaker 3: No, not recently.
- 11:33Speaker 5: So Archer does that in the scene he's laying in
- 11:37Speaker 5: bed before he dies.
- 11:39Speaker 3: Celebrate it and he just up ends the cup and face.
- 11:43Speaker 5: Yeah, it's almost like Scott Bacula did it to be
- 11:47Speaker 5: funny and an outtake, right, and they put it in
- 11:51Speaker 5: the show. It's so weird. So thirty years later, he's
- 11:56Speaker 5: gonna come with an empty champagne glass. Nice, gonna come
- 12:00Speaker 5: with a full champagne glass. He's also gonna come with
- 12:04Speaker 5: something you could put into it so you can simulate
- 12:06Speaker 5: him pouring champagne into his.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Own That is amazing.
- 12:10Speaker 2: That's the kind of stuff I love.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Yes, that's great.
- 12:14Speaker 5: Sulu, of course is gonna come with the teacup or
- 12:19Speaker 5: the coffee, but he's also gonna come with the phaser,
- 12:23Speaker 5: you know, the Star Trek six phaser. Maybe a like
- 12:28Speaker 5: when Neka did the Alien line they did Birk Paul
- 12:31Speaker 5: Reiser's character. He came with this huge sign that said
- 12:37Speaker 5: Hadley's Hope. Welcome to Hadley's Hope. I want to do
- 12:42Speaker 5: stuff like that too, where we have accessories that makes
- 12:47Speaker 5: sense and are cool. But if I'm being honest with you.
- 12:53Speaker 5: Just going back to Wharf and Super seven I already
- 12:57Speaker 5: probably owned four or five at least dwarfs. I didn't
- 13:02Speaker 5: need to buy Super sevens, but I bought it because
- 13:08Speaker 5: of the accessory, the proof, because that's what we want
- 13:12Speaker 5: to do.
- 13:13Speaker 4: Okay, Okay.
- 13:16Speaker 6: One of the other questions that we had was the packaging.
- 13:20Speaker 6: Are they are these gonna be on blister packs? Is
- 13:23Speaker 6: gonna have collector packaging that you could, you know, taking
- 13:25Speaker 6: it out as you see fit?
- 13:27Speaker 4: What are we talking? Uh?
- 13:29Speaker 5: It will not be blister packs. Okay, That's all I'm
- 13:33Speaker 5: gonna say about that. For we don't have it fully
- 13:37Speaker 5: figured out, and once we figure it out, then we
- 13:40Speaker 5: need paramount to approve. But based on what we did
- 13:44Speaker 5: with sectors, which was a blister pack, and I just
- 13:49Speaker 5: wasn't crazy about how those looking stores, it's not going
- 13:53Speaker 5: to be a blister pack.
- 13:55Speaker 6: Speaking of stores, when can we expect to see these
- 13:57Speaker 6: in stores?
- 13:59Speaker 5: God will late Q three, early Q four?
- 14:02Speaker 4: Okay, okay, do we know what stores will be having
- 14:06Speaker 4: them or so?
- 14:07Speaker 5: The way we do it is we do our own DTC. Okay,
- 14:12Speaker 5: then it goes to mom and pops, we sell to
- 14:15Speaker 5: over four hundred and fifty Mom and Pops in the
- 14:17Speaker 5: US and Canada, okay, and then it goes to all
- 14:20Speaker 5: the big box stores whoever wants it. So I can't
- 14:23Speaker 5: tell you Walmart's gonna take it. I don't know if
- 14:26Speaker 5: they are. They might, but it that that's that's the
- 14:31Speaker 5: process they probably.
- 14:32Speaker 2: For those for those who don't know, DTC direct to
- 14:35Speaker 2: consumer from your website.
- 14:36Speaker 5: Correct, yes, sorry, okay.
- 14:40Speaker 6: And then I know, like toys like it takes forever
- 14:43Speaker 6: to make them and then to actually put them on
- 14:46Speaker 6: the shelf, But how long is that runway before from
- 14:49Speaker 6: concept to to on the shelf?
- 14:52Speaker 5: So we can really turn everything around in a perfect
- 14:58Speaker 5: situation in about five months Okay, maybe even closer to four.
- 15:05Speaker 5: But so far, I can tell you I ain't seen
- 15:08Speaker 5: too many perfect situations. So, like you know, with the expanse,
- 15:14Speaker 5: we're actually in the moment. You know, we're still on schedule,
- 15:17Speaker 5: but I had hoped to be early. The reason why
- 15:19Speaker 5: we're not early is because we couldn't get the figures
- 15:23Speaker 5: to sit properly in the chair, and we had to
- 15:26Speaker 5: spend an extra month getting the chair perfect so that
- 15:30Speaker 5: it worked with the figures. Same thing with Biker mice.
- 15:34Speaker 5: I think we spent an extra two months on the
- 15:38Speaker 5: biker mice bikes because we couldn't get the figures to
- 15:42Speaker 5: sit on them properly. So, you know, sometimes you get
- 15:46Speaker 5: lucky and everything works, and usually you don't.
- 15:49Speaker 6: Okay with the Star Trek line, are we looking at
- 15:54Speaker 6: just figures or will we be getting like vehicles, ships
- 15:58Speaker 6: anything like that?
- 15:59Speaker 5: At the moment, all I can tell you is Jess figuers. Okay,
- 16:06Speaker 5: all right, Scott's nodding his head. He understands what.
- 16:10Speaker 8: At the moment, Okay, at the moment, well, one of
- 16:15Speaker 8: the figures people were asking us to ask you is
- 16:20Speaker 8: are we going to get a Moopsie.
- 16:23Speaker 5: God? I hope so she was. I mean, it's so funny.
- 16:32Speaker 5: I have such an interesting opinion that opinion, Like, look
- 16:35Speaker 5: at me. I find my own opinion interesting. No, I
- 16:39Speaker 5: don't know how other people feel about Deep Space nine,
- 16:42Speaker 5: but for me, there's pre Dominion War and post dominion War,
- 16:47Speaker 5: and Moopsie was one of the characters pre Dominion War.
- 16:52Speaker 5: I wasn't the biggest fan of the show until the
- 16:54Speaker 5: Dominion War started.
- 16:56Speaker 6: Moopsie was from the Lower Deck show.
- 16:58Speaker 4: It's a little like Little Animal.
- 17:00Speaker 3: I think Brian's talking about Moogie.
- 17:02Speaker 5: Oh, you're absolutely right. I was thinking of Moviie. Sorry, Okay.
- 17:08Speaker 5: Then this is much shorter and much easier. We do
- 17:13Speaker 5: not have the rights to anything past Enterprise and Nemesis.
- 17:19Speaker 4: Oh wow, Okay okay at the moment, Okay.
- 17:22Speaker 3: So tng era type type things.
- 17:26Speaker 5: It goes from the original series through Enterprise on TV
- 17:31Speaker 5: and then for the movies, the motion picture through Nemesis.
- 17:36Speaker 3: Okay, okay, gotcha.
- 17:37Speaker 2: So and then there's a there's a there's a wall
- 17:40Speaker 2: there between that and say Discovery on Yeah.
- 17:43Speaker 5: We we have no rights to any modern.
- 17:46Speaker 6: Trek okay, okay, okay, but that's something you guys can
- 17:50Speaker 6: revisit in the future, right, okay, right, Well, I think.
- 17:56Speaker 5: There's another company doing them, though I I don't know
- 18:00Speaker 5: that for sure or whatever. You know, Yeah that.
- 18:04Speaker 6: I remember it was announced, but I don't remember seeing
- 18:07Speaker 6: them anywhere yet.
- 18:08Speaker 5: Yeah, I I don't know. I don't know's it's really
- 18:12Speaker 5: intro you know, as I'm sure you guys understand, the
- 18:15Speaker 5: majority of our toy businesses lines that we own and control.
- 18:20Speaker 5: Only the Expanse and Star Trek are lines where we
- 18:25Speaker 5: have to go talk to people and get their approval
- 18:28Speaker 5: and stuff. So paramount has been I cannot stress this enough.
- 18:33Speaker 5: Absolutely wonderful to deal with, and I should say work with,
- 18:39Speaker 5: but they don't tell us everything and or shouldn't they? Right?
- 18:44Speaker 6: Fair enough, Okay, Scott, did you have any other questions
- 18:48Speaker 6: you wanted to get?
- 18:49Speaker 2: Yeah, Brian, I got a question about you know, I'm
- 18:53Speaker 2: a nuts and bolts kind of guy, so I'm interested
- 18:55Speaker 2: in the like, the actual process in your collaboration with
- 19:00Speaker 2: with the actual manufacturers. How how involved are you in
- 19:06Speaker 2: that process? Like, you know, do you have to get uh,
- 19:09Speaker 2: you know, if you're gonna make Ronnie Cox as Jellico,
- 19:14Speaker 2: how do you ensure that it's you know, it looks
- 19:17Speaker 2: like Jellico and not like any random, you know, white
- 19:22Speaker 2: haired person.
- 19:24Speaker 5: So you want a real nuts and bolts answer?
- 19:27Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 19:28Speaker 5: Sure, okay, And if I rambled too much, please all
- 19:33Speaker 5: means I met what I said. I'm a nuts and
- 19:36Speaker 5: bolts guy too, so I love talking about this stuff.
- 19:38Speaker 5: So we hire a designer. The guy who's doing these
- 19:44Speaker 5: is in like La, which is very important because a
- 19:49Speaker 5: lot of our designers are in other states. The guy
- 19:51Speaker 5: who does biker mice, he's in Italy. So so we
- 19:55Speaker 5: hired pretty much one of our favorite designers. We gave
- 19:59Speaker 5: him all the characters and he on his computer designs them.
- 20:07Speaker 5: So we go back and forth on his computer sketches
- 20:11Speaker 5: and do this, do that, do this, do that. At
- 20:14Speaker 5: some point where like looks great, go to a three
- 20:17Speaker 5: D printed model. So the designer prints a three D
- 20:22Speaker 5: model that's all gray and then hand paints it. He
- 20:29Speaker 5: drives a couple of blocks, drops them off at our office,
- 20:33Speaker 5: and we give notes based on the three D model.
- 20:38Speaker 5: He'll come back a week, two weeks later give us
- 20:40Speaker 5: a new one. That's usually all it takes. Sometimes it
- 20:43Speaker 5: takes three. Like we're having a little trouble with two
- 20:46Speaker 5: vix's shoulders, get to do three of two vix because
- 20:51Speaker 5: it was just very so so technologically going to be
- 20:54Speaker 5: a little difficult to do. There's a lot of options
- 20:57Speaker 5: on how to do something that detailed. But anyway, once
- 21:02Speaker 5: we approve the three D model that's been painted, it
- 21:07Speaker 5: goes to Paramount. They give us notes, and at some
- 21:10Speaker 5: point it goes to Ronnie Cox. Ronnie Cox says x
- 21:15Speaker 5: y Z. We do what he says. Then we send
- 21:18Speaker 5: it to China to the factory. Factory then takes that
- 21:23Speaker 5: model and makes molds. They will then put a gray
- 21:30Speaker 5: or pinkish colored plastic through the mold and FedEx that
- 21:35Speaker 5: to us. So we get an unpainted bigger I told
- 21:40Speaker 5: you I was going to go into the weeds.
- 21:42Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, yeah, me too. It's interesting.
- 21:45Speaker 5: So we get the unpainted figure and that's when we say, oh,
- 21:49Speaker 5: the ears are too big, the hair isn't right, the
- 21:52Speaker 5: knees look weird. They then do another version, send it
- 21:57Speaker 5: back to us, and once we approve, and this process
- 22:00Speaker 5: can go on forever. Then once we approve the physical shape,
- 22:07Speaker 5: then we let them do paint. So they then send
- 22:11Speaker 5: us three hand painted ones. Each one's a little different.
- 22:15Speaker 5: We give them notes. Then they'll send us another one
- 22:18Speaker 5: that hopefully is perfect.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Right.
- 22:22Speaker 5: Then it goes to Paramount. Hopefully Paramount says we love it.
- 22:26Speaker 5: It goes back to Ronnie Cox, hopefully he says he
- 22:29Speaker 5: loves it. Then we're done, and then please make X
- 22:34Speaker 5: thousands of them.
- 22:35Speaker 4: Wow, oh wow.
- 22:36Speaker 2: So the the actually the actual actor is involved in
- 22:40Speaker 2: deciding like this likeness is good enough for me or not.
- 22:44Speaker 5: It's different. So every actor has different rights depending on
- 22:48Speaker 5: their deal. But yeah, they're they're they're usually involved to
- 22:54Speaker 5: differing levels of involvement.
- 22:57Speaker 4: Okay, And I.
- 22:58Speaker 2: Would imagine like if it's a heavy, heavily prosthetic type
- 23:03Speaker 2: like the Two Vix.
- 23:05Speaker 3: It is, that's the same.
- 23:07Speaker 2: I guess it would depend on on their deal when
- 23:09Speaker 2: for their their rights of the character. But like you know,
- 23:12Speaker 2: somebody's just got a heavy, heavy prosthetics on their face
- 23:14Speaker 2: where you couldn't recognize them, that process must be a
- 23:17Speaker 2: little different too, right.
- 23:18Speaker 5: It's all about the paperwork. It's not like with Two
- 23:23Speaker 5: Vix or wayoun we were like, we don't have to
- 23:25Speaker 5: talk to them. We had to look at the contracts.
- 23:29Speaker 3: Yeah, gotcha.
- 23:30Speaker 6: Two Vix is the one I'm most excited about. Good
- 23:34Speaker 6: favorite characters.
- 23:35Speaker 3: Say save here, that's the one I will be getting,
- 23:38Speaker 3: just so you know.
- 23:40Speaker 6: Yeah, on the show a few years ago, we had
- 23:42Speaker 6: the Two Vix Memorial Sci Fi Tournament for what was
- 23:47Speaker 6: the best sci fi show other than Star Trek.
- 23:49Speaker 5: So, yeah, that is some episode I I you know,
- 23:54Speaker 5: I saw it when it first aired, and then too,
- 23:57Speaker 5: I hadn't seen it since. Yeah, and I watched it
- 24:01Speaker 5: again probably about two months ago. Other than the cold open,
- 24:05Speaker 5: which if I'm being honest and I'm always honest, is
- 24:09Speaker 5: pretty painful to watch. I just yeah, I don't know
- 24:12Speaker 5: if you remember or out there like singing songs to
- 24:15Speaker 5: each other.
- 24:15Speaker 4: Yeah, that's right.
- 24:16Speaker 5: Yeah, Felix, Oh my god. I always say if we
- 24:20Speaker 5: ever do science fiction at Nasel, we're not doing any
- 24:23Speaker 5: clubs and we're not doing any songs anytime. It's like,
- 24:28Speaker 5: you can simulate accurately what starships will look like in
- 24:33Speaker 5: five hundred years, right, you can't. Like Picard Season one
- 24:39Speaker 5: has a scene in like a club where they're all dancing.
- 24:43Speaker 5: Look at Star Trek three when they're in the bar, Like,
- 24:47Speaker 5: it doesn't work. Just wait, it like Hines and fucking clubs.
- 24:54Speaker 6: Yeah, I hear you, man, Although I would love a
- 24:58Speaker 6: pimp Rios action big at some point.
- 25:02Speaker 2: We talked about that on the podcast one time as
- 25:06Speaker 2: action figure. We're talking to the guy.
- 25:09Speaker 5: Yeah, by way cards outfit in that club scene, he's
- 25:14Speaker 5: wearing a hat with like a feather coming off.
- 25:16Speaker 4: Yeah, it is the weirdest thing in the wor I know.
- 25:20Speaker 5: Whatever company has those rights, good luck with that.
- 25:25Speaker 3: We are looking forward to the figures the two fix one.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Now I have to ask the hard hitting question here
- 25:31Speaker 2: since we're talking about since we're talking about two vix
- 25:34Speaker 2: uh in your opinion? Do you believe that Jane Way
- 25:38Speaker 2: murdered two fix?
- 25:40Speaker 5: I wanted to be polite and let you finish your sentence,
- 25:45Speaker 5: but I could have interrupted you the minute I realized
- 25:48Speaker 5: what you were asking to say. Wayne Way, absolutely positively
- 25:54Speaker 5: a billion percent did the right there.
- 25:57Speaker 4: Okay, you heard it here.
- 26:00Speaker 5: Use the needs of the many outweigh the needs of
- 26:02Speaker 5: the few. It's math. Why would you save one life
- 26:05Speaker 5: and not two? Yes, I know there's a prime directive.
- 26:08Speaker 5: I get it, but it's just math. There's two versus one.
- 26:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 26:14Speaker 2: Well, I'm sure that's not giving you a controversial answer
- 26:16Speaker 2: at all. No, no, no, there'll be my discussion about that.
- 26:19Speaker 5: Give you another one. I'll give you some controversy for it.
- 26:23Speaker 5: From the minute I saw the episode the first time,
- 26:27Speaker 5: I have always been a Captain Jellico supporter.
- 26:33Speaker 4: Okay, Oh I know.
- 26:35Speaker 5: Wow, a lot of He was the original inspiration. I'll
- 26:39Speaker 5: tell you something funny. You know, I'm friends with a
- 26:43Speaker 5: lot of people that own toy companies. Right, you know
- 26:46Speaker 5: you've only been making toys for three years. I'm friends
- 26:49Speaker 5: with people that own twenty twenty five thirty year old
- 26:53Speaker 5: toy companies. I know people that work it has Bro
- 26:55Speaker 5: and Mattel. For years, I was telling you to do
- 27:00Speaker 5: what we're doing, and nobody did.
- 27:04Speaker 3: Right.
- 27:04Speaker 5: So the example I would always give in all of
- 27:08Speaker 5: those conversations that I brought into my pitch with Paramount
- 27:14Speaker 5: was Jellico and Garrett. I'm like, Yesterday's Enterprise is widely
- 27:20Speaker 5: considered to be tied with Inner Light the best Star
- 27:24Speaker 5: Trek episode ever made, if not just Next Generation, it's my.
- 27:29Speaker 3: Favorite ever made.
- 27:33Speaker 5: Oh except for Wrathacon.
- 27:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:35Speaker 5: So I would sit there and be like, how are
- 27:39Speaker 5: you doing fifty Picards with this with the flute? And
- 27:43Speaker 5: no one's ever done. Captain Garrett, I'm like, she is
- 27:47Speaker 5: one of my favorite lines in All Star Trek. Went
- 27:50Speaker 5: after Picard is like, Yo, just so you know, we're
- 27:52Speaker 5: losing this war real bad, she says, She goes, she goes,
- 27:56Speaker 5: you know, to hit her communicator. She goes, Lieutenant Castillo,
- 28:00Speaker 5: tell the crew we're heading back, and as you know,
- 28:03Speaker 5: saved about ten billion lives. How was she never made before?
- 28:08Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 28:09Speaker 5: Right, that's the logic behind every day right on Awesome.
- 28:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm a Jellico fan too. I like Captain Garrett.
- 28:19Speaker 3: I liked Captain Jellico.
- 28:20Speaker 2: I was in the military, and Captain Jellico was the
- 28:24Speaker 2: first once I started rewatching Next Generation, he was actually
- 28:28Speaker 2: the first person I saw that actually acted like somebody
- 28:31Speaker 2: in a military organization.
- 28:34Speaker 5: One hundred. The whole thing about the shifts. I loved
- 28:40Speaker 5: that this two part episode, like after commercials, that's only
- 28:44Speaker 5: about eighty minutes, right, I love that they spent five
- 28:50Speaker 5: almost almost five percent of their and by the way,
- 28:53Speaker 5: that includes credits. The credits, they probably had seventy five
- 28:58Speaker 5: minutes of storyteller. They spent five minutes talking about shift schedules. Ye, like, yeah,
- 29:08Speaker 5: this is my kind of episode. And by the way,
- 29:11Speaker 5: first of all, thank you for your service. Second of all,
- 29:13Speaker 5: my only life regret is that I never served. I
- 29:16Speaker 5: made a lot of mistakes, don't get me wrong. The
- 29:19Speaker 5: only thing I deliberately didn't do that I regret has
- 29:23Speaker 5: joined the Navy. I don't know what branch you were in.
- 29:25Speaker 5: I hope that didn't offend you Army, But I think
- 29:32Speaker 5: that's part of why Jalico really resonated with me, and
- 29:36Speaker 5: I think that's why I don't even have to think
- 29:38Speaker 5: about it. What Jane Way did was absolutely, in my opinion,
- 29:42Speaker 5: the right decision.
- 29:43Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's great. I love it.
- 29:47Speaker 5: And by the way, to that point, you know, everybody
- 29:50Speaker 5: always talks about poor two vix. You know, I don't
- 29:54Speaker 5: want to die. I don't want to die. My favorite
- 29:57Speaker 5: moment from that episode favorite, probably my number one favorite
- 30:02Speaker 5: moment in all the Voyager, and probably in my top
- 30:05Speaker 5: ten favorite moments in all of Star Trek. Now, because
- 30:10Speaker 5: I don't know if you remember this, after they beam back,
- 30:13Speaker 5: both of them, and everyone's like, whoa, they're back.
- 30:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know.
- 30:17Speaker 5: If you remember this. They literally just showed Jane Way
- 30:23Speaker 5: conchalantly saying to the two of them, welcome back. And
- 30:26Speaker 5: then there's this amazing steady camshot of her just walking
- 30:31Speaker 5: through the hallways after she made the decision. Yeah, we
- 30:36Speaker 5: realize looking at her how it really sucks to be
- 30:40Speaker 5: a captain sometimes.
- 30:42Speaker 4: Oh yeah, you had to make the hard calls.
- 30:43Speaker 5: But her chin was up, proud, walk straight ed, just
- 30:49Speaker 5: I did what I had to do. Who knows. When
- 30:52Speaker 5: she gets in her quarters, maybe she cried, but we
- 30:55Speaker 5: don't know what she did. Maybe she didn't.
- 30:58Speaker 3: Right.
- 30:59Speaker 2: I do remember that scene very very well, and I
- 31:02Speaker 2: remember thinking, she looks like she looks like a woman
- 31:06Speaker 2: in Starfleet who is walking away with one hundred pound
- 31:10Speaker 2: rucksack on her back, and she's trying not to show
- 31:13Speaker 2: any emotion or any pain or any anything.
- 31:16Speaker 3: And she's doing that thing.
- 31:17Speaker 2: Like you said, she's acting like a professional and but
- 31:21Speaker 2: but you could also tell that it weighed heavy on her.
- 31:23Speaker 5: Well, yeah, yes, about the backpack. I hope you're okay
- 31:28Speaker 5: with a Scott. I might steal that from you. But
- 31:31Speaker 5: a vote wise original that I'll give you is I
- 31:36Speaker 5: mean she like, there's a great saying I heard once
- 31:41Speaker 5: where someone said a crisis is when you can't say,
- 31:46Speaker 5: let's forget the whole thing. And you have to remember
- 31:50Speaker 5: about Jane Way compared to Kirk Picard, Archer and especially Cisco,
- 32:00Speaker 5: she is a science background, right, Like that's the cool
- 32:04Speaker 5: thing about the Navy in real life. And also star Trek,
- 32:08Speaker 5: which is you know, Ron Berry was in the Air Force,
- 32:12Speaker 5: like which didn't exist, by the way, the Army had
- 32:16Speaker 5: the Air Force during World War Two. So he was
- 32:19Speaker 5: in the Army. He just happened to be in planes.
- 32:22Speaker 5: But the way it works in the Navy, other than
- 32:25Speaker 5: an aircraft carrier a captain because you have to be
- 32:28Speaker 5: a pilot to be an aircraft carrier captain. Every other
- 32:32Speaker 5: captain in the US military. You can come from anywhere.
- 32:35Speaker 5: So I think it was interesting that the one captain
- 32:40Speaker 5: with a science background is the one who has to
- 32:43Speaker 5: be like, yeah, killed the dude, right right, Scott with
- 32:49Speaker 5: her backpack. I think that probably weighed a little heavier
- 32:53Speaker 5: on her than it would have on Picard, who I
- 32:55Speaker 5: believe came from engineering, which is a much more mathematical,
- 33:00Speaker 5: flat white binary training.
- 33:04Speaker 3: Yeah right right by.
- 33:05Speaker 5: The way, in case you didn't, In case you were
- 33:07Speaker 5: wondering if I was faking being a trek ee.
- 33:09Speaker 4: Oh no, no, no, you're proving it now.
- 33:12Speaker 6: You know for sure I'm in the Yeah, for sure.
- 33:17Speaker 4: Well awesome.
- 33:18Speaker 6: Well, Brian, is there anything else you wanted to talk
- 33:21Speaker 6: about the line before we wrap it up?
- 33:24Speaker 5: You know, the main thing I just want to say
- 33:25Speaker 5: over and over, and you know, because I've read all
- 33:28Speaker 5: these emails, we are going to do the main casts.
- 33:31Speaker 5: We are going to do the bridge cruise. We hear you,
- 33:34Speaker 5: We listen. We almost made a huge mistake on biker
- 33:38Speaker 5: mice from Mars, and part of the reason we even
- 33:41Speaker 5: did the email address in the press release was because
- 33:46Speaker 5: we didn't have ab Crunch in biker mice, and we
- 33:50Speaker 5: got hundreds of comments basically saying, hey, morons, how are
- 33:57Speaker 5: they gonna sit on the bikes without the ABB crunch
- 34:00Speaker 5: let alone. We want to pose them, right, you know,
- 34:03Speaker 5: we're go out saying we apped up, We're doing AB
- 34:08Speaker 5: crunch and that's exactly why we did the email. So yes,
- 34:13Speaker 5: we're gonna do it. Oh and we are doing everything
- 34:17Speaker 5: humanly possible to keep them under thirty bucks.
- 34:20Speaker 4: Nice.
- 34:20Speaker 5: Those if there's anything I want to communicate to all
- 34:22Speaker 5: your viewers, those are the two points.
- 34:26Speaker 4: Okay, awesome, wonderful.
- 34:28Speaker 2: Well, yeah, thank you, Brian.
- 34:32Speaker 4: Thank you, Thank you absolutely.
- 34:35Speaker 2: Brian volk Weiss, the CEO and founder of the Naceel Company.
- 34:41Speaker 2: And you also, your company's also produced the toys that
- 34:44Speaker 2: made us, the movies that made us, and the center
- 34:48Speaker 2: seat fifty five years of Star Trek. So thank you
- 34:51Speaker 2: very much for for coming on, Thank.
- 34:54Speaker 5: You for having me. This is a lot of fun.
- 34:56Speaker 4: Awesome. Thank you so much, Brian.
- 34:58Speaker 5: All right, bye, guys.
- 35:00Speaker 1: This is Captain Benjamin Cisco of Deep Space nine and
- 35:03Speaker 1: Space God to the Bajorans. I have a mission for you.
- 35:06Speaker 1: This falls outside of Starfleet guidelines, so I can't order you,
- 35:09Speaker 1: but I am asking for volunteers. Volunteers who will subscribe
- 35:13Speaker 1: to the trek Cast YouTube channel, leave five star reviews
- 35:16Speaker 1: on your podcast app of choice, and share trek Cast

- 35:29Speaker 3: Are you with me
