- 0:00Hey everybody, this is your GM, your back row
- 0:02dom, it's your GM Kale who currently is not on
- 0:04the team right now, but don't you worry about
- 0:06it. Here to bring you episode 4 of the Stack
- 0:08and Shed series, but this time we're talking
- 0:11about the Saints, alright? Now for all of you
- 0:13who don't know, we're covering all 32 teams,
- 0:16so nobody is going to be neglected, okay? Now
- 0:18we're going to cover a few different areas, and
- 0:20those areas are what went wrong, what do they
- 0:24need, stack or shed, their draft picks, one move
- 0:28I would do in their cap space. So for all my
- 0:30Saints fans, buckle up. It's going to be a little
- 0:33bit controversial, but just follow with me. Let's
- 0:35get into it. All right, let's get into it. So
- 0:45what went wrong in the Saints season? And I will
- 0:47venture to say it was an inconsistent offense.
- 0:49Now, coming into the season, we all knew that
- 0:52the Saints had undergone a lot of change. For
- 0:54starters, they just hired Kellen Moore, Derek
- 0:56Carr just retired, and they were starting to
- 0:59give Spencer Rattler an opportunity. So I don't
- 1:01think nobody had a high expectation for this
- 1:04offense. However, we have to highlight that this
- 1:07offense doesn't have a lot to work with. Sure,
- 1:10you have Chris Alave and Alvin Kamara, but those
- 1:13are only two people. Did anybody expect Tyler
- 1:15Shuck to come in and light it up as a rookie?
- 1:17Did anybody expect Spencer Rattler to light it
- 1:20up? No. Now, according to Sumer Sports. Spencer
- 1:23Rattler started in 8 games and played in 9 games,
- 1:26and his stat line was 257 attempts for 174 completions,
- 1:311 ,586 passing yards, 8 touchdowns, 5 interceptions,
- 1:366 .2 yards per attempt, and a 67 .7 completion
- 1:40percentage. Tyler Shucks started in 9 games and
- 1:43played in 11 games. His stat line was 327 attempts
- 1:47for 221 completions, 2 ,384 passing yards, 10
- 1:52touchdowns, touchdowns, 6 interceptions, 7 .3
- 1:55yards per attempt, and a 67 .6 completion percentage.
- 1:57Now, when we look at their offensive rankings,
- 1:59they had the 23rd ranked offense, and they averaged
- 2:0218 points per game, 313 .6 yards per game, 5
- 2:06yards per play, and 28 touchdowns. They were
- 2:0913th in passing offense, and they averaged 219
- 2:12.3 passing yards per game, 5 .8 passing yards
- 2:15per game, and 19 passing touchdowns. They were
- 2:1813th in rushing offense, and they averaged 94
- 2:21.5 three rushing yards per game, 3 .7 rushing
- 2:24yards per play, and nine rushing touchdowns.
- 2:26Now, what do the Saints need? And that is more
- 2:29offensive production. And the two ways that you
- 2:31can go about that is by figuring out who's going
- 2:34to be your franchise quarterback and bringing
- 2:36in offensive weapons. By making these investments,
- 2:38you're increasing the floor and ceiling of this
- 2:41offense while assessing both Tyler Shuck and
- 2:44Spencer Rattler. Because my belief is this. The
- 2:47only way that you can truly assess your quarterback
- 2:49room is by investing into your quarterback room.
- 2:52And the way that you make that investment is
- 2:55by surrounding them with weapons. and when you
- 2:58do this you're also minimizing the margin of
- 3:00error these quarterbacks have so now they can't
- 3:03say oh i wasn't put in the right situation to
- 3:05be successful oh i wasn't given enough weapons
- 3:08in order to truly showcase my skills because
- 3:11why the organization made every single effort
- 3:14to make all the investments they need to make
- 3:17into you in order to see if you are the franchise
- 3:20guy now with that being said the question we
- 3:22all need to ask ourselves is stack or shed and
- 3:25i will eventually say stack and the reason The
- 3:27reason why I say that is because this team has
- 3:29some pieces. All they have to do is just continue
- 3:31to build off of it. Now, I'm not saying this
- 3:33team is going to take a significant leap like
- 3:35how the Commanders did where they went to the
- 3:37NFC Championship, but what I am saying is this.
- 3:39They have some building blocks. All the Saints
- 3:42have to do is just continue to build off of it
- 3:45and continue to make the right decisions. And
- 3:48please, for the love of God, clean your books.
- 3:52Why is it that every single year this team continues
- 3:55to nickel and dime, penny and pinch every single
- 4:00contract just to be in cap compliance? If you're
- 4:03having to do that every single year and you're
- 4:06not a contender, something's wrong. Whoever's
- 4:08giving out these contracts needs to be fired
- 4:11immediately because there's no way under the
- 4:14sun that you're continuing to be over the cap
- 4:16every single year. And when we look at their
- 4:20draft picks, they have their first, their second,
- 4:22their third, two fourth round picks, two fifth
- 4:24round picks, and a sixth round pick, which isn't
- 4:26bad, right? But just hear me out for a moment,
- 4:29Saints fans. Would you be open to the idea of
- 4:32trading down just a little bit? Now, I'm not
- 4:33saying you go from the eighth pick to the 22nd
- 4:36pick, but maybe if you trade down to maybe the
- 4:3912th or the 15th or maybe the 16th pick of the
- 4:42draft, you're still in a really good spot. Because
- 4:44let's be honest here. the upper part of the draft
- 4:47is inflated. In previous draft classes, the top
- 4:51part of the draft is usually where the creme
- 4:53de la creme players are at, right? Not in this
- 4:55draft class. I truly believe that the middle
- 4:58part of the draft is where a lot of the good
- 5:01players to maybe great players are going to be
- 5:03drafted. We all know that Fernando Mendoza is
- 5:06going to be drafted by the Raiders. That's a
- 5:08given, right? But what's gonna happen afterwards?
- 5:11Because I guarantee you the player that you really
- 5:13want would still be available if you traded down
- 5:15just a little bit. Because what we're seeing
- 5:17in this draft class is that positions that teams
- 5:19usually don't value very high are gonna have
- 5:22to be valued high. Case in point, safety, for
- 5:25instance, right? Caleb Downs is regarded as the
- 5:28best safety in this draft class. Do you really
- 5:31think someone like the Jets is gonna take him
- 5:33with the second overall pick in this draft? Especially
- 5:36when you realize that safety has one of the highest
- 5:38miss rates out of all the positions you can draft
- 5:41in the first round. Now, the only safety that
- 5:43I can remember that was drafted very high was
- 5:45Sean Taylor. Outside of him, Ed Reed wasn't drafted
- 5:49high. Troy Palomaro wasn't drafted high. All
- 5:51the great safeties were not drafted that high.
- 5:54So if I'm the Saints, I'm trading down just a
- 5:56little bit so I can acquire extra draft capital
- 5:59that I can use in either this draft class, the
- 6:0127 draft class, or trade for a player. Now, the
- 6:04one move that I would do if I was the Saints
- 6:06GM is draft an offensive player. And the reason
- 6:09why I say that is because outside of Chris Alave
- 6:12and Alvin Kamara, what else do you have? Now,
- 6:14let's be honest here. In this draft class, you
- 6:17have a lot of options at both receiver and tight
- 6:19end. If you want to get a power slot this year,
- 6:22you can go ahead and get it. If you want to get
- 6:24you an X, you can go ahead and get it. If you
- 6:27want to get you a Z, you can go ahead and get
- 6:29it. If you want to get you a 6 '4 receiver that
- 6:32is able to catch those 50 -50 contested balls,
- 6:34you can go ahead and do it. Or you can pivot
- 6:38and you can get you a really productive tight
- 6:40end because remember, a young quarterback's best
- 6:42friend is a really productive tight end. And
- 6:46honestly speaking, the only tight end that you
- 6:48really have that's been really productive is
- 6:50Taysom Hill, and he's a Swiss Army knife. Now,
- 6:53when we look at their cap situation, they are
- 6:54negative 28 .7 million over the cap. Which if
- 6:57we can be honest here, Mickey Loomis always finds
- 7:00a way to be cap compliant. Usually he just nickels
- 7:03and dimes every single contract like he does
- 7:05every single year. I don't know how he does it.
- 7:08I wish I can talk to his financial guy because
- 7:10wow, that is just magical work that he is doing
- 7:13every single year, okay? But I want to end this
- 7:15episode here. If you guys like what you are listening,
