Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Scheger is a production of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio.
- 0:22Speaker 2: What's Up, everybody, Welcome to another episode of the Season
- 0:25Speaker 2: with Peter Schreger. I am Peter Schreger. I just stepped
- 0:27Speaker 2: into my Brooklyn apartment after spending all morning in the
- 0:31Speaker 2: early afternoon at New York Giants Detroit Lions joint practice
- 0:37Speaker 2: number two. Aaron wan Kaufman is joining me, my wonderful producer.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Aaron, I've got pep in my step. I saw a
- 0:45Speaker 1: real football today and it was awesome. Let me just
- 0:48Speaker 1: give you a quick breakdown of practice. Some dispatches coming.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Into this thing. Yesterday. The storyline was that there was
- 0:54Speaker 2: a bunch of fights and there was a question as
- 0:56Speaker 2: to whether they would practice and pads again today and
- 0:59Speaker 2: go all out because yesterday there were fights. No one
- 1:00Speaker 2: got hurt, thank god. But one of the key things
- 1:03Speaker 2: was Daniel Jones got involved in a fight in a
- 1:05Speaker 2: Red Jersey yesterday, came in, popped himself in and he
- 1:08Speaker 2: didn't do much, but the fact that he was there,
- 1:11Speaker 2: and the question was, you know, what's he doing? And
- 1:14Speaker 2: the other question is do we kind of like it?
- 1:16Speaker 2: Daniel Jones not exactly known as that guy. Uh spent
- 1:20Speaker 2: the entire offseason with Hard Knocks, you know, being on
- 1:24Speaker 2: them talking about other quarterbacks and gosh it was and
- 1:27Speaker 2: obviously everyone seems to be writing off Daniel Jones. Then
- 1:30Speaker 2: sure enough there was in the mix yesterday. We fast
- 1:33Speaker 2: forward to today, which is Tuesday, and I get there
- 1:35Speaker 2: with my colleague Kyle Brandt. We get there nice and early,
- 1:38Speaker 2: and there's like a buzz in the air because it's
- 1:41Speaker 2: open to fans. These two teams would add it head
- 1:44Speaker 2: to head, and today it's like round two. Let me
- 1:47Speaker 2: explain the Lions. There's something there to them that maybe
- 1:52Speaker 2: we at home look at it as this cool Cinderella story,
- 1:56Speaker 2: but like they kind of walked that walk, and they
- 2:00Speaker 2: kind of talked that. If I'm being honest, like I'm
- 2:03Speaker 2: watching these guys, they carry themselves as a team that
- 2:06Speaker 2: went to the NFC Championship game. They've got a bunch
- 2:09Speaker 2: of alphas in that roster. I mean, we were talking
- 2:12Speaker 2: about Panay Suwell might be the most horrifying offensive tackle
- 2:16Speaker 2: outside of Trent Williams Aden Hutchinson. He does the thing
- 2:19Speaker 2: where he tucks his jersey in so you could see
- 2:21Speaker 2: his abs like he's like an old school like, you know,
- 2:24Speaker 2: he rolls it up old school defensive linemen, like from
- 2:27Speaker 2: a different era, and he is coming into his own
- 2:30Speaker 2: Jamier Gibbs, he walks that walk. He is that guy.
- 2:33Speaker 2: And then there's a mon Ross Saint Brown, who his
- 2:36Speaker 2: father is a mister World bodybuilder, and he kind of
- 2:40Speaker 2: walks that walk in if he saw the receiver on Netflix.
- 2:44Speaker 1: He knows sixteen names of receivers who were taken before him,
- 2:47Speaker 1: and he knows every single one of those players when
- 2:49Speaker 1: they were selected, in what college they went to. They
- 2:51Speaker 1: have a giant chip on their shoulder, and they come
- 2:54Speaker 1: in here and they've got a bunch of swagger, and
- 2:56Speaker 1: you know, they walk in and last year it was
- 2:57Speaker 1: this aw shucks team and they.
- 2:59Speaker 2: No no, no, no, no, no. They are one of
- 3:01Speaker 2: the biggest teams in the league. They're one of the
- 3:03Speaker 2: most physical teams in the league. And as they got
- 3:05Speaker 2: to the to New Jersey yesterday, I think there were
- 3:08Speaker 2: some issues with the with the plane on the tarmac.
- 3:11Speaker 2: I don't know all the details there, but like there
- 3:14Speaker 2: was a pissed off vibe from the Lions, which I
- 3:16Speaker 2: kind of like, and it's one of these where it's like,
- 3:18Speaker 2: last year wasn't a one year wonder. Last year wasn't
- 3:21Speaker 2: one of these deals where it was an overnight success.
- 3:24Speaker 2: They all got paid this offseason, a lot of them,
- 3:26Speaker 2: whether it be Decker or whether it be Aman Ross,
- 3:29Speaker 2: Saint Brown, or whether it be Jared Goff, they all
- 3:32Speaker 2: got paid. And like these are made men and they
- 3:35Speaker 2: are no longer the Hunters and this aw shuck story.
- 3:38Speaker 2: They're gonna play at noon on Thanksgiving. Let's just hope
- 3:40Speaker 2: they don't get blown out that one day when we
- 3:41Speaker 2: see them on national TV. This is one of the
- 3:44Speaker 2: best teams in football.
- 3:45Speaker 1: So they come in with all this and Aaron, I'll
- 3:48Speaker 1: tell you this, a lot of Lions fans there. You
- 3:51Speaker 1: live in Brooklyn, you grew up on the like, like
- 3:54Speaker 1: I see.
- 3:54Speaker 2: A lot of Steelers fans everywhere I go. I see,
- 3:57Speaker 2: of course, Eagles fans everywhere we go, especially in New York.
- 4:00Speaker 2: I don't see a ton of Lions fans. Like Lions
- 4:03Speaker 2: fans showed up at these joint practices and it was cool,
- 4:08Speaker 2: Like you get there and you've got this Lions team
- 4:10Speaker 2: that comes in like they're the big bad you know,
- 4:12Speaker 2: bad asses and all this stuff. Then there's this Giants
- 4:15Speaker 2: team that's like, we've just been beating up, talked down to, ridiculed,
- 4:21Speaker 2: made a mockery of over the past twelve months. And
- 4:24Speaker 2: it's like, what if we had a healthy quarterback, what
- 4:27Speaker 2: if we beefed up our offensive line, what if we
- 4:30Speaker 2: added some talented players on the what if we added
- 4:32Speaker 2: Brian Burns, one of the best pass users in football.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Like what You've got these two different teams with chips
- 4:36Speaker 2: on their shoulders. They've only been practicing against each other
- 4:39Speaker 2: the first few weeks of training camp. They finally get
- 4:42Speaker 2: after it and day one their's fisticos, it gets broken up.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Day two it starts off and I'm telling you, eron.
- 4:51Speaker 2: I don't know if I've ever seen a receiver put
- 4:53Speaker 2: on a show like Milik Neighbors put on today. And
- 4:56Speaker 2: I haven't read Twitter, I haven't read Giants Twitter. I
- 4:58Speaker 2: haven't done anything literally off the practice field talking to
- 5:01Speaker 2: you right now. I think Milik Neighbors had I counted
- 5:05Speaker 2: seven different targets when the Ones are playing the Ones.
- 5:08Speaker 2: I think he caught all seven having a field day
- 5:11Speaker 2: on Terry and Arnold, the rookie from the Detroit Lions,
- 5:16Speaker 2: having a field day on you know, I saw Kirby Joseph,
- 5:19Speaker 2: who's a star player on the Lions. He was just
- 5:21Speaker 2: catching balls over him.
- 5:22Speaker 1: So Milik Neighbors is eating them alive, eating them alive,
- 5:25Speaker 1: eating them alive. Milik Neighbors catches a ball and on
- 5:29Speaker 1: the way back to the huddle like taps Terry and Arnold,
- 5:32Speaker 1: who a tap is more than a tap.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Terry Arnold, who is a first round pick out of Alabama.
- 5:37Speaker 2: I remember Neighbors, the first round pick out at LSU.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Arnold pushes him and then Neighbors immediately gets involved and
- 5:44Speaker 1: pushes back, and then all of a sudden, there's punches
- 5:46Speaker 1: being thrown right in front of us as we're set
- 5:49Speaker 1: up there for Good Morning Football. And this is the
- 5:51Speaker 1: number six pick in the draft, and I think the
- 5:53Speaker 1: number twenty three pick in the draft. Neighbors and Arnold,
- 5:57Speaker 1: and then Kirby Joseph, who was an interception machine last
- 5:59Speaker 1: year for the Lions.
- 6:00Speaker 2: He's a recent, you know, draft pick out of Illinois.
- 6:04Speaker 2: He comes flying in and it's a haha, it's a fracas,
- 6:07Speaker 2: it's whatever you want to call it. And I'm watching
- 6:10Speaker 2: this with Kyle Brant, We're like, this is freaking awesome. Now,
- 6:13Speaker 2: do we want any to get hurt? No, but the
- 6:15Speaker 2: intensity was so high and I don't have I don't
- 6:18Speaker 2: do the keep track of like what it was. But
- 6:20Speaker 2: like Daniel Jones looks really good, Jared Golf looked really good.
- 6:25Speaker 2: But Malik Neighbors put on an absolute show. And from
- 6:28Speaker 2: everyone who is there, on Monday is the second straight
- 6:31Speaker 2: day he's done that. Aaron, are we ready to get
- 6:35Speaker 2: all aboard the Malik Neighbors hype train? Okay?
- 6:39Speaker 3: So I also just finished watching episode five of almost
- 6:45Speaker 3: House of the Dragon.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Okay, I heard a lot of critical response from House
- 6:50Speaker 2: to the Dragon, though.
- 6:51Speaker 3: People aren't I did finish watching the House of the Dragon,
- 6:54Speaker 3: but just finished the end of Hard Knocks because I
- 6:56Speaker 3: missed the final episode last week and so I watched
- 6:59Speaker 3: it today.
- 7:01Speaker 2: And I mean, Neighbors looks incredible, amazing, And that was
- 7:05Speaker 2: in a June practice you were watching.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Yeah, And I've seen a couple of clips of you know,
- 7:11Speaker 3: some big high overhead ball like catches that he's made
- 7:15Speaker 3: from Daneer Jones so far, and you know, we're getting
- 7:18Speaker 3: a lot of Marvin Harrison talk and and we're getting
- 7:21Speaker 3: we're seeing Caleb on the field with Rome and I
- 7:25Speaker 3: want Malik to be incredible. I want I'm not a
- 7:29Speaker 3: Giants fan, that's fine. I want the days of like
- 7:31Speaker 3: Obj catching the one handed passes, like making the Giants exciting.
- 7:35Speaker 3: So I am I would love it if he's great.
- 7:38Speaker 2: You watched Tard Knocks. There was this really cool distinction
- 7:40Speaker 2: made during the draft process of whether this guy is
- 7:44Speaker 2: a diva or this guy is one of those dudes
- 7:48Speaker 2: that just has an incredible competitive edge because apparently when
- 7:51Speaker 2: he was at LSU, if he didn't get the ball,
- 7:52Speaker 2: he barked and he complained and he would let everyone
- 7:55Speaker 2: know about it. And that's a pain in the ass
- 7:56Speaker 2: for a quarterback, especially if you're gonna be a rookie
- 7:59Speaker 2: in the NFL.
- 7:59Speaker 1: But Brian Dable felt comfortable with it. That's a great
- 8:02Speaker 1: segue to our first interview.
- 8:05Speaker 4: Here.
- 8:05Speaker 1: We did two interview and I'm going to toss to
- 8:07Speaker 1: one of them. I asked Dabel exactly this question. This
- 8:10Speaker 1: was right before practice. Brian Dabele sat with us, and
- 8:14Speaker 1: I'll give you a couple of visuals here. Brian Dabel's
- 8:17Speaker 1: down maybe sixty pounds. He looks incredible.
- 8:20Speaker 2: He said that it's pilates not putting a ton of
- 8:25Speaker 2: food in his mouth, calorie watching, and he says, Zen,
- 8:28Speaker 2: just being chill, this is what it was. It helped
- 8:31Speaker 2: him lose weight, so this is what is. He also
- 8:33Speaker 2: says he yo Yo's way up and way down over
- 8:36Speaker 2: the course of his life. So he could put on
- 8:38Speaker 2: the sixty real quick, he said, And I'm like, please, don't, please,
- 8:41Speaker 2: don't do that. Like you look great, you look the
- 8:42Speaker 2: best you've looked.
- 8:44Speaker 1: But I asked him just that question about neighbors, about
- 8:48Speaker 1: why he was so convicted in him, and why he
- 8:51Speaker 1: believed that this guy is all the good things of competitiveness,
- 8:54Speaker 1: not the bad things that you get with some wide receivers,
- 8:57Speaker 1: especially if they're not getting the ball early on.
- 8:59Speaker 2: I love this guy, Brian Dable. We've had him on
- 9:01Speaker 2: the podcast before. I consider him a friend. If I'm
- 9:04Speaker 2: a little too chummy with him, you got to Understan
- 9:06Speaker 2: and why. I've known this guy for twenty years and
- 9:08Speaker 2: I really respect the hot of him and I'm rooting
- 9:11Speaker 2: for him to get back to where he was when
- 9:13Speaker 2: he was Coach of the Year two years ago, as
- 9:15Speaker 2: opposed to last year where the team took a dip
- 9:17Speaker 2: with no further ado. Here was Brian Dable earlier today
- 9:20Speaker 2: before Giants practice.
- 9:22Speaker 1: We're thrilled now to have the twenty twenty two NFL
- 9:26Speaker 1: Coach of the Year, the head coach of the New
- 9:28Speaker 1: York Giants and a friend of the show, mister Brian Table.
- 9:31Speaker 4: What's what's up, Dave's how're you doing?
- 9:33Speaker 5: Thanks for having me, guys, you appreciate it.
- 9:34Speaker 6: Happy to have you.
- 9:35Speaker 4: Thrilled that you and still to look at you. You
- 9:37Speaker 4: look great. You're tam there's like half of you that's
- 9:41Speaker 4: this year. You look awesome. How do you feel? Yeah?
- 9:43Speaker 5: I feel great.
- 9:44Speaker 7: That's what happens when you drop some pounds and you
- 9:47Speaker 7: know you're you know, you look at the BMI chart
- 9:50Speaker 7: and mine was off the chart, so I just I
- 9:53Speaker 7: just had to get it back to where it says overweight.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Is that right?
- 9:56Speaker 7: Where I'm sitting at overweight right now? But yeah, feel good.
- 9:59Speaker 7: Had a good camp and look forward to today.
- 10:01Speaker 1: I know you you're a guy who wants to talk
- 10:02Speaker 1: about football. Let's talk about the quarterbacks. Let's talk about it.
- 10:05Speaker 1: The last thing you want is focus on your physical peas,
- 10:07Speaker 1: and yet it is so inspiring.
- 10:10Speaker 6: It motivates all of us when we see what you
- 10:12Speaker 6: showed up to a camp this year.
- 10:13Speaker 1: How are you handling all the talk about you personally
- 10:16Speaker 1: and your your looks?
- 10:18Speaker 7: Yeah, I disregard that because because I know it's going
- 10:21Speaker 7: to go up pretty quickly.
- 10:22Speaker 6: Are you already resigning to that fact season that I have.
- 10:25Speaker 7: We're on a steady climb at the sense of starting
- 10:27Speaker 7: riting camp.
- 10:28Speaker 5: Yeah, but you know this weather helps to keep it down.
- 10:31Speaker 5: You sweat it out.
- 10:32Speaker 7: Uh yeah, but and our focus is on our team
- 10:34Speaker 7: and trying to get better and had.
- 10:37Speaker 5: To get some new clothes. But save save the old.
- 10:39Speaker 4: Ones, know you do save the big ones. You know.
- 10:41Speaker 8: This is what's crazy about this is Dan Campbell after
- 10:44Speaker 8: yesterday's practice, of all practices, He's asked about your appearance
- 10:48Speaker 8: and your weight, and Dan's like, that's Dave's man.
- 10:50Speaker 4: He's up, he's.
- 10:51Speaker 8: Down, he's up, he's down, And like he called you
- 10:53Speaker 8: a chameleon, like whatever the circumstances you fit to. But
- 10:56Speaker 8: I also think that's relatable to fans. It's like we
- 10:58Speaker 8: have like heavy season and light season, you get it.
- 11:00Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, and you know lately it's been heavy season.
- 11:02Speaker 5: But DC is great.
- 11:03Speaker 7: You know, we worked together at Miami, got a lot
- 11:05Speaker 7: of good stories on him as well. You did a
- 11:06Speaker 7: great impression of it, by the way. Yeah, solid impression.
- 11:10Speaker 7: But yeah, that's just the way it goes.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Let me ask you football stuff, because yesterday, I mean
- 11:15Speaker 1: the stuff that the local media of New York's time
- 11:18Speaker 1: was like most spirited practice in ten years.
- 11:20Speaker 6: You had straight Han Victor Cruz, Phil Simms.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Here and like, here comes this Lions team that went
- 11:25Speaker 1: to the NFC Championship a year ago, coming in as
- 11:27Speaker 1: the hunted and the Giants are like, we're not, you know,
- 11:29Speaker 1: walking into our building and bushing us around. Like you
- 11:32Speaker 1: have to love even if there are fights, you have
- 11:34Speaker 1: to love that your team came ready to play.
- 11:36Speaker 7: Yeah, and that's why we practice against Detroit. One of
- 11:38Speaker 7: my appreciation for Dan and how he runs things and
- 11:41Speaker 7: and their team ultimately, but it was a competitive, spirited practice.
- 11:44Speaker 7: You know, we got to clean up a few things
- 11:45Speaker 7: here technique wise, clean up some stuff on the in
- 11:48Speaker 7: the scuffles. We don't want a bunch of those, but
- 11:51Speaker 7: definitely got a lot of good work out of it
- 11:52Speaker 7: yesterday and looking to do the same today.
- 11:54Speaker 8: You know, you see the scuffles in every camp. You
- 11:57Speaker 8: do not often see a guy in a red jersey
- 12:00Speaker 8: flying into the scuffle to shove a guy who's entangled
- 12:03Speaker 8: up with his teammate. You don't want to see Daniel
- 12:05Speaker 8: Jones get hurt. You want to seem that dude. It's
- 12:07Speaker 8: bad ass to see the quarterback and have his guys back.
- 12:10Speaker 8: I think the fans relate. We liked it.
- 12:11Speaker 4: There's got to be part of you that says hell yes,
- 12:14Speaker 4: number eight.
- 12:15Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 12:15Speaker 5: You know he got in there, and you know it
- 12:18Speaker 5: was a little scuffle with the.
- 12:19Speaker 7: Linemen going on, and I didn't exactly see what happened
- 12:22Speaker 7: after that. And he's sitting over the side and I said,
- 12:26Speaker 7: what are you going to do in that pilot?
- 12:29Speaker 5: He said, I got my guys back. I said, all right,
- 12:31Speaker 5: just just make sure you're asked, don't get hurt.
- 12:33Speaker 7: So yeah, I think the guys have a lot of
- 12:36Speaker 7: respect for him. They always have the way he approaches things.
- 12:39Speaker 7: But there's definitely something cool for the lineman and for
- 12:41Speaker 7: the defensive guys to see with their quarterback.
- 12:44Speaker 8: You remember in Major League where Wesley Snipes makes the
- 12:46Speaker 8: basket catch and the magic goes nice catch.
- 12:49Speaker 7: Hays don't ever bleep and do it against great great
- 12:53Speaker 7: Lou Brown exactly.
- 12:56Speaker 4: I love it.
- 12:57Speaker 5: Outstanding movie.
- 12:58Speaker 1: Hey, going back to this hard knocks thing at the combine,
- 13:02Speaker 1: the night before the wide receivers work out, this.
- 13:05Speaker 6: Is before we see any of them.
- 13:07Speaker 1: You're talking to your fellow coaches and scouts and being like,
- 13:10Speaker 1: I was up all night watching Elite Neighbors that I
- 13:12Speaker 1: love Scott so great. Then the second point it's like
- 13:15Speaker 1: you see Neighbors, and then the final.
- 13:16Speaker 6: Episode you're like, I spooked.
- 13:17Speaker 1: To coach Saban, he said, two players are guys that
- 13:20Speaker 1: just terrorized him, brock Bowers at Georgia and Neighbors at LSU.
- 13:23Speaker 1: It felt like wire to wire Neighbors was your guy.
- 13:26Speaker 1: You deny on him, now you got him in the building,
- 13:28Speaker 1: talk about your love for him in the pre draft
- 13:30Speaker 1: process and what you've seen now that he's here.
- 13:32Speaker 5: Yeah, that was some of my first exposure.
- 13:34Speaker 7: You know, you're getting done with the season, doing some
- 13:35Speaker 7: end of the year things, and then you know all
- 13:37Speaker 7: the scouts are way ahead of you, so you bring
- 13:39Speaker 7: your computers. You start watching guys, and I started watching him,
- 13:43Speaker 7: and I just kept watching him.
- 13:44Speaker 5: I didn't watch a whole lot of other players when
- 13:46Speaker 5: I was there. I watched them near all his tape.
- 13:49Speaker 7: Yeah, because you love the style that he plays with
- 13:52Speaker 7: the competitive spirit. He's big, physical, he made plays down
- 13:57Speaker 7: the field, catching runs, So kind of got a little
- 14:00Speaker 7: addicted to watching, you know how he played in a
- 14:02Speaker 7: competitive obviously league. And then you know, the more you
- 14:06Speaker 7: watch him and you go back and you look at
- 14:08Speaker 7: different things. You know, he was a guy that you know,
- 14:10Speaker 7: was obviously high on my list and our list as
- 14:13Speaker 7: the process went on. He's he's done a good job
- 14:15Speaker 7: since he's been here. He's picked things well, picked up
- 14:19Speaker 7: things well, and he's had a good start day.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Yeah, there's this cool delineation in the episode where he's
- 14:23Speaker 1: a talker, he wants the ball, and I think you say,
- 14:27Speaker 1: like there's a difference between being selfish and there's just
- 14:29Speaker 1: having been a dog.
- 14:30Speaker 6: Yeah, and this guy, like we're gonna lean on.
- 14:32Speaker 9: He's a dog.
- 14:33Speaker 6: He's not a talker. He's not a deva like this
- 14:34Speaker 6: a guy who just is competitive as hell.
- 14:36Speaker 5: He really is.
- 14:37Speaker 7: And again, I'm happy he's here. We've developed a strong relationship.
- 14:42Speaker 7: You know, since he's been here through now, he sees
- 14:44Speaker 7: the game well for a young player. You know, I
- 14:46Speaker 7: asked him things that he likes or defenders that he's
- 14:49Speaker 7: going against. I think he's elevated the receiver room. The
- 14:53Speaker 7: guys have a lot of respect for him. I know
- 14:54Speaker 7: the quarterback does, so you know, I'm glad we have him.
- 14:58Speaker 8: Peter, And I remember a couple of years ago, coach
- 15:00Speaker 8: being at NFL honors and you're there, wife, and you're
- 15:03Speaker 8: all dressed up some very exciting nights, get your name called, like,
- 15:07Speaker 8: oh my god, I've made it. I've worked so hard
- 15:09Speaker 8: for this. Last year was not the year you wanted.
- 15:12Speaker 8: And now we're in twenty twenty four. Where are you psychologically?
- 15:15Speaker 8: You've been all over the place in so many good
- 15:16Speaker 8: ways and so many challenging ways.
- 15:18Speaker 4: How are you feeling?
- 15:18Speaker 7: Yeah, I feel great again. This is my twenty fourth
- 15:21Speaker 7: year in the National Football League.
- 15:22Speaker 9: Amazing.
- 15:23Speaker 5: I've experienced, you.
- 15:24Speaker 7: Know, the highs, the highs and the lowest lows, and
- 15:26Speaker 7: that's the NFL and and how you handle it and
- 15:29Speaker 7: get ready for the next season, that's what's the most important.
- 15:32Speaker 7: Have a lot of confidence in the people that we
- 15:33Speaker 7: have in our building, the staff members, the players were
- 15:37Speaker 7: growing each day. You know, I bought a brand new
- 15:40Speaker 7: suit for that for that night. That costs me a
- 15:43Speaker 7: lot of money. And now you know, I can't adjust
- 15:45Speaker 7: it right now because it's so big.
- 15:46Speaker 5: So that's right now.
- 15:49Speaker 7: So that's why I got to go ahead and put
- 15:50Speaker 7: it back on.
- 15:51Speaker 5: But feel good.
- 15:52Speaker 7: I've had a good camp, energized, look forward to getting
- 15:56Speaker 7: going here.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Can I can I go into kind of the psychology
- 15:59Speaker 1: of the off season where all right, Tae Kwon's walking out,
- 16:03Speaker 1: but we're gonna bring in run In, We're gonna bring
- 16:04Speaker 1: in illumin or we're gonna bring in Brian. These guys
- 16:07Speaker 1: are on the lines, defensive line, offensive line, and they
- 16:10Speaker 1: have a certain grit to them. Was that a statement
- 16:13Speaker 1: with here's how we're building our team for twenty twenty four.
- 16:15Speaker 6: We're gonna protect Daniel, but we're.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Also going to bring in guys that'll get a little
- 16:18Speaker 1: dirty in the trenches.
- 16:19Speaker 7: Yeah. Absolutely, Then that's where it starts, as you know,
- 16:22Speaker 7: Peter offense and defensive line and having a mentality. But
- 16:26Speaker 7: you know, the skill guys we brought into and i'd
- 16:28Speaker 7: say this rookie class, obviously we.
- 16:30Speaker 5: Haven't played a game. They have some of that as well.
- 16:31Speaker 6: There's some grit, some toughness like that Tyrone Tracy.
- 16:35Speaker 7: Yeah, and you know they've all contributed so far in camp.
- 16:38Speaker 7: You know, we'll see how it goes once we start
- 16:39Speaker 7: these preseason games. But you know, toughness was something that
- 16:42Speaker 7: we really wanted to improve from the year before.
- 16:45Speaker 8: I have to ask, as you mentioned it, Dan Campbell
- 16:48Speaker 8: is here.
- 16:48Speaker 4: You guys are practicing again.
- 16:49Speaker 9: You guys got a lot of history.
- 16:50Speaker 4: You straight upset.
- 16:51Speaker 8: I got a lot of Dan Campbell's stories back.
- 16:52Speaker 4: In their day.
- 16:53Speaker 8: Give us one DC story when maybe you knew he
- 16:56Speaker 8: was a little different.
- 16:57Speaker 5: Yeah it was.
- 16:58Speaker 7: You know, Tony Sprowno got rest of soul. Yeah, I've
- 17:01Speaker 7: said this before. He's like, I have a young guy
- 17:04Speaker 7: that has played that I think will make a tremendous coach.
- 17:07Speaker 5: You don't have to If you don't.
- 17:08Speaker 7: Want to hire him or recommend hire him, that's fine,
- 17:12Speaker 7: but I'd like you to talk to him. So I
- 17:13Speaker 7: sat down with him for the interview process, and within
- 17:17Speaker 7: five minutes, you know, he's out of breath, there's chairs
- 17:20Speaker 7: moving around, He's showing me all these techniques.
- 17:23Speaker 5: And after about the first five minutes it went for
- 17:25Speaker 5: a while. I said, this is the guy. He's relatable,
- 17:28Speaker 5: he's got a toughness about him. He's a hiccup, a coach.
- 17:30Speaker 7: You know, he's a former player but sees the game
- 17:32Speaker 7: the right way. I really enjoyed my time with him.
- 17:36Speaker 7: You know, power cleaner every morning watch. You know, it
- 17:39Speaker 7: looks like he can go out there and put it
- 17:41Speaker 7: on some guys right now. But great family, got a
- 17:44Speaker 7: great appreciation, have state friends for the years. So happy
- 17:47Speaker 7: for him when he got that opportunity. But you know
- 17:50Speaker 7: he's he was out of breath pretty quick in that interview.
- 17:53Speaker 1: My last question for you, it's about this team here,
- 17:56Speaker 1: this franchise, this season, in particular one hundred years the
- 18:00Speaker 1: New York Giants. We always talk about the crown jewel
- 18:02Speaker 1: franchises of the league. You talk about all the Lombardi trophies,
- 18:05Speaker 1: all the history, and how cool it's been to see
- 18:07Speaker 1: a lot of those faces here at the building even yesterday,
- 18:10Speaker 1: having straight hand and Cruise and Sims and those guys.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Does it feel like this is a special season from
- 18:16Speaker 1: your from your cock bit like you're looking at do
- 18:18Speaker 1: you know the overall significance knowing what this means to
- 18:21Speaker 1: this franchise and to these fans.
- 18:22Speaker 7: Yeah, I certainly respect that. Obviously historic. You know, my
- 18:26Speaker 7: focus is really on this year. Well, weak control but
- 18:29Speaker 7: have a tremendous amount of respect for all the people
- 18:31Speaker 7: that have come before us, our ownership group.
- 18:33Speaker 5: You know again, you.
- 18:34Speaker 7: See the guys that come out here and they've kind
- 18:36Speaker 7: of laid a foundation of some of those successful teams.
- 18:38Speaker 5: But you know, our focus has to be on on getting.
- 18:40Speaker 7: Better, focusing on this year, doing the things we need.
- 18:42Speaker 5: To do with respect to the past.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Sure sure Vikings week one, Vikings week one, Vikings week one,
- 18:49Speaker 1: one o'clock start.
- 18:50Speaker 6: I like that good preseason here, coach.
- 18:52Speaker 1: We're wishing you the best of luck, and I'm gonna
- 18:55Speaker 1: disagree with you.
- 18:56Speaker 6: I don't think you put the weight back on. I
- 18:58Speaker 6: think you are.
- 18:59Speaker 4: This is the time it stays off.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Discipline. Man, you are not gonna yo yo. I will
- 19:03Speaker 1: put on the weight. I know I will every season.
- 19:05Speaker 1: You will not, though you are going to be discipline.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Then the Pilates place in y Coffin is gonna give
- 19:08Speaker 1: you that one free class because you've only mentioned them
- 19:10Speaker 1: thirteen times in the last two weeks.
- 19:12Speaker 5: I'd appreciate that. I'd also take that bet On take
- 19:15Speaker 5: the bet.
- 19:16Speaker 4: I'll take it, Beck too.
- 19:17Speaker 8: We're gonna hear that Jerry Springer bell out in the
- 19:19Speaker 8: middle of practice today, A bunch of times thing. Jerry, Jerry, Jerry.
- 19:28Speaker 2: So that's Dabele. I mean, you hear him. He's we
- 19:32Speaker 2: didn't really he wasn't looking to.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Talk about his physical appearance. I probably asked four questions
- 19:35Speaker 1: about it. Kyle asked the fifth one.
- 19:37Speaker 2: At that point. He's like, all right, we talking about football,
- 19:38Speaker 2: like I think we're good. He's not comfortable in that,
- 19:41Speaker 2: but I will say this, he looks great. You're gonna
- 19:43Speaker 2: see him. It's gonna be a story. Obviously it already is.
- 19:45Speaker 2: But I also think it's interesting what he says about
- 19:48Speaker 2: this team and what they really preach this year, and
- 19:50Speaker 2: it was toughness. So you bring in John Runyon, you
- 19:54Speaker 2: bring in Illumina, or you bring Brian Burns. These are
- 19:57Speaker 2: line of scrimmage guys that might have been missing the
- 20:00Speaker 2: last few years. And you surround Daniel Jones and you
- 20:02Speaker 2: hope that he elevates. Really dug talking to daball, like
- 20:05Speaker 2: I said, Another friend of the show is Joe Shane.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Our first year on this podcast, Joe Shane, the general manager,
- 20:21Speaker 2: came on for the Giants. He was one of our
- 20:22Speaker 2: first guests and he was awesome. America knows him now
- 20:26Speaker 2: from Hard Knocks. It was cool to have him on
- 20:28Speaker 2: before practice also with no further ado. Joe Shane, the
- 20:31Speaker 2: General manager of the New York Giants, talking about his
- 20:34Speaker 2: new squad in twenty twenty four.
- 20:36Speaker 1: We are here in East Rutherford, New Jersey, where I'm
- 20:39Speaker 1: joined by Kyle and we're joining with the general manager
- 20:41Speaker 1: of the New York Giants going into his third year
- 20:43Speaker 1: as the GM, mister Joe Shane.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Welcome to the show.
- 20:45Speaker 8: Joe.
- 20:46Speaker 9: Yeah, thanks for having me.
- 20:46Speaker 4: Guys, we're thrilled to have you.
- 20:48Speaker 8: We're now calling you smoking Joe Shane. After yesterday and
- 20:51Speaker 8: then all you're involved, Let's let's get into this. Okay,
- 20:55Speaker 8: yesterday everybody saw it around the world. Now it's it's
- 20:57Speaker 8: everywhere on the internet. Giants Lions have a joint practice
- 21:00Speaker 8: and there's many dust ups, fracases, everything. Hey, donny Brook,
- 21:05Speaker 8: like talk take us through yesterday's practice in that regard.
- 21:08Speaker 10: Yeah, last year we scrimmaged against Detroit for two days
- 21:10Speaker 10: and we didn't have there were no fights, there was nothing.
- 21:12Speaker 9: It was great.
- 21:13Speaker 10: Everything went smooth, and early on in practice there was
- 21:16Speaker 10: a couple of hits and things got.
- 21:18Speaker 9: Heated early on. So yeah, I mean from my position,
- 21:21Speaker 9: I just want to.
- 21:22Speaker 10: Get good work and everybody come out of practice healthy.
- 21:25Speaker 10: That's the biggest concern for me, and that's why we're
- 21:27Speaker 10: practicing with Detroit. Like a lot of respect for Dan
- 21:29Speaker 10: Campbell and his staff, Brad Holmes and what they're doing
- 21:32Speaker 10: up in Detroit. So hopefully we don't have as much
- 21:35Speaker 10: extracurricular activity today as.
- 21:36Speaker 9: We did yesterday.
- 21:37Speaker 6: Now, there was another little part of this. Kyle didn't mentioned.
- 21:40Speaker 1: There was a skirmish on the sideline, and there wasn't
- 21:42Speaker 1: the security officer, it wasn't the offensive lineman, the general manager,
- 21:45Speaker 1: Joe Shane you got involved and broke it up.
- 21:48Speaker 6: But I got scared when I see a man with
- 21:50Speaker 6: no helmet on the field.
- 21:50Speaker 4: What happened?
- 21:51Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, again, we were doing a red zone period
- 21:53Speaker 10: and you know, our whole team was on one side,
- 21:55Speaker 10: theirs was on another. So I was right there by
- 21:57Speaker 10: the ruckus or whatever is going on. I was just
- 21:59Speaker 10: trying to keep our guys back. So I think got
- 22:01Speaker 10: a little bit of overblown in terms of my involvement,
- 22:03Speaker 10: and you know, I know my strengths and weaknesses. I
- 22:06Speaker 10: was just trying to keep our guys back. In no
- 22:07Speaker 10: way was I getting involved.
- 22:08Speaker 4: That's never been seen, you know, Like we were joking.
- 22:10Speaker 8: We were joking earlier, like you hanging on a cave
- 22:13Speaker 8: on Thibodaux.
- 22:13Speaker 4: Like or Jeff ben Gundy's leg. It's not like that.
- 22:16Speaker 8: I thought maybe you would walk across the field and
- 22:18Speaker 8: challenge Brad Holmes to a fight, right, that's how you
- 22:20Speaker 8: do it.
- 22:21Speaker 10: So Brad's in the same boat as me. We just
- 22:22Speaker 10: want to get good work and get out of there healthy.
- 22:24Speaker 4: And you did it.
- 22:25Speaker 8: But I'm honestly Joe, like it's it's playing very well
- 22:27Speaker 8: for you in like the court of public opinion.
- 22:29Speaker 4: It's just cool that you were there and not afraid.
- 22:31Speaker 8: And you these are your players, you sign them, you
- 22:33Speaker 8: want to protect them, and you did.
- 22:35Speaker 9: I think it's cool, no doubt, no doubt. Again, I
- 22:37Speaker 9: just want to get out healthy.
- 22:38Speaker 10: I don't want somebody, you know, getta stupid to hit
- 22:39Speaker 10: somebody with a helmet on with your fist, things like that,
- 22:41Speaker 10: and guys can get caught up in the moment. And
- 22:44Speaker 10: you know, I was just trying to prevent anything like
- 22:45Speaker 10: new happening.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Yeah, can I can I just geek out? Can we
- 22:48Speaker 1: talk about Malik neighbors a little bit. Yeah, I know,
- 22:50Speaker 1: I know, there's.
- 22:50Speaker 6: Just like we have to be we have to temper
- 22:52Speaker 6: our expectations. You're a rookie.
- 22:53Speaker 2: But like I just see it from Afar.
- 22:55Speaker 1: I haven't been the Giants camp yet, it looks like
- 22:58Speaker 1: he's the real deal in practice.
- 23:00Speaker 10: Yeah, No, he's uh, he's been really good. He's had
- 23:02Speaker 10: a good couple of weeks here. He did a good
- 23:04Speaker 10: job yesterday. Again, he keeps stacked good days together.
- 23:07Speaker 9: And it's it's it's what we saw at LSU.
- 23:09Speaker 10: I mean, he was a he was a dominant player
- 23:10Speaker 10: in the SEC and he's come out here. He's learned
- 23:13Speaker 10: the offense probably better than we expected. We're able to
- 23:16Speaker 10: move him around and he's he's he's handling a lot
- 23:18Speaker 10: right now and he's able to go out and execute.
- 23:20Speaker 9: So yeah, it's definitely encouraging where he is right now.
- 23:23Speaker 8: Hey, and I don't mean to bring up the fracases,
- 23:25Speaker 8: but I'm gonna do this constructively.
- 23:27Speaker 4: Daniel Jones is being talked about too, Okay, because the.
- 23:30Speaker 8: Guy in the red jersey, the franchise quarterback, is in
- 23:32Speaker 8: their shoving defensive lineman and showing fear. And he's got
- 23:36Speaker 8: he's got a beard, now showing no fear. He's got
- 23:38Speaker 8: a beard.
- 23:38Speaker 10: Now.
- 23:38Speaker 8: People online are like, wow, Daniel Jones coming up differently.
- 23:41Speaker 8: Obviously you don't want them to get hurt. But Peter
- 23:43Speaker 8: and I agree that it was a moment for Daniel Jones,
- 23:46Speaker 8: like for the fans, for the teammates that I'm here
- 23:49Speaker 8: to fight too, and I got my guys back.
- 23:51Speaker 4: Like, how was that interpreted by you guys and the
- 23:53Speaker 4: coaches stuff?
- 23:53Speaker 10: Yeah, I think the players definitely probably appreciated it. You know,
- 23:57Speaker 10: his teammates seeing him getting in there from from again,
- 23:59Speaker 10: from my seat and my perspective where I was, I
- 24:01Speaker 10: was like, get.
- 24:01Speaker 6: Out of there, get out of there.
- 24:04Speaker 10: You know, Red Jersey coming off in acl like, yeah,
- 24:06Speaker 10: We're got out of there. But you know, sometimes your
- 24:08Speaker 10: natural instinct kicks in and when your teammates need your help,
- 24:11Speaker 10: you know, that's your natural instinct to go help.
- 24:13Speaker 9: And that's what Daniel did, and luckily he.
- 24:15Speaker 10: Got out of there, and again we just I just
- 24:16Speaker 10: want to get out of here healthy and get some
- 24:18Speaker 10: good work in.
- 24:19Speaker 1: You know, the Giants off season, obviously Saquon was the
- 24:21Speaker 1: big headline that he's no longer here, but quietly, you
- 24:24Speaker 1: guys had illuminor you had Runyon, you had Motor Singletary,
- 24:29Speaker 1: we're a weekend to practices. We've now got these joint practices.
- 24:32Speaker 1: How are you feeling with the new addition so far?
- 24:34Speaker 9: Yeah, I feel really good.
- 24:35Speaker 10: And and Brian Burns, you know, we traded for him too,
- 24:37Speaker 10: and he's been really good in camp. But Motor we
- 24:39Speaker 10: had familiarity with from Buffalo.
- 24:41Speaker 9: Illumini or Runyon. They've they've performed very well. So all
- 24:45Speaker 9: three of.
- 24:45Speaker 10: Those guys what we expected to get in terms of
- 24:47Speaker 10: production and the way they look on the grass has
- 24:49Speaker 10: been really good. And not even that just from a
- 24:50Speaker 10: culture standpoint, who they are as people and what they
- 24:52Speaker 10: bring to the table as veteran players with leadership, you know,
- 24:55Speaker 10: as we're trying to turn this around, you know, they've
- 24:57Speaker 10: been phenomenal.
- 24:58Speaker 4: I just have to take it time. And it's Chris
- 25:00Speaker 4: Hogan right there, the super Bowl winner. What are you doing? Chris?
- 25:04Speaker 4: Miami would have been Miami too. Yeah, I'm having a
- 25:09Speaker 4: great voice.
- 25:09Speaker 1: How are you?
- 25:10Speaker 8: We're in the middle talking to Joe family.
- 25:13Speaker 9: With me.
- 25:14Speaker 6: What's up?
- 25:15Speaker 3: Bro?
- 25:15Speaker 4: You play the sweet Sweet lacrosse? You play last? Yeah,
- 25:20Speaker 4: we love you guys.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Crazy the man dude like the Penn State mom myth
- 25:24Speaker 1: we love.
- 25:24Speaker 6: This legend here legend Brian Dane.
- 25:29Speaker 4: Yeah, that's the cut seven eleven.
- 25:30Speaker 9: He is always open, always open.
- 25:32Speaker 2: Hard Knocked tonight, here's our other star of Hard Knock.
- 25:35Speaker 8: So I promised we weren't going to bring it up,
- 25:36Speaker 8: but you mentioned Hard Knocks Joe.
- 25:38Speaker 4: We know y'all. All you want to do is take
- 25:40Speaker 4: care of your family and come to work and do
- 25:41Speaker 4: your job in private.
- 25:42Speaker 8: That's that's how you operate. You weren't allowed to do that.
- 25:45Speaker 8: It was Look, it's forced upon you. You guys don't choose.
- 25:48Speaker 8: You were in the show a lot talking about really
- 25:51Speaker 8: really important private things on television.
- 25:54Speaker 4: What was that experience?
- 25:55Speaker 9: Like, Yeah, going through the process that had never been
- 25:57Speaker 9: done before.
- 25:58Speaker 10: So you get used to the cameras and you just
- 26:00Speaker 10: it's business as usual, not knowing what the end products
- 26:03Speaker 10: gonna be.
- 26:04Speaker 9: So credit to NFL Films. I thought they did a
- 26:06Speaker 9: very good job.
- 26:06Speaker 10: I would say the fans and everybody would say, boy,
- 26:09Speaker 10: they showed a little.
- 26:10Speaker 9: Bit more than we thought they would.
- 26:11Speaker 10: And yeah, not not all of it was comfortable, and
- 26:12Speaker 10: there's some some conversations that are you know, you wish
- 26:15Speaker 10: they would remain private, but they were. They were part
- 26:17Speaker 10: of the show, and you know we had editorial input,
- 26:19Speaker 10: not control. So you know, there were some things that
- 26:21Speaker 10: were I was like, I'm not real comfortable with that,
- 26:23Speaker 10: but you know it was in the show. But I
- 26:24Speaker 10: think all in all, NFL Films they did a great job.
- 26:27Speaker 10: You know, when you're doing it too, you have a
- 26:29Speaker 10: lot of private conversations leading up to the draft or
- 26:31Speaker 10: free agency on strategy and you're always worried about as
- 26:34Speaker 10: somebody from you know, it is again to get out,
- 26:36Speaker 10: and they didn't you know, the confidence and trust that
- 26:37Speaker 10: we had an NFL Films and they had in us.
- 26:39Speaker 10: You know, I think it came out well, you know,
- 26:41Speaker 10: the five episodes I thought were really good.
- 26:42Speaker 9: And again it was a dead media cycle.
- 26:46Speaker 10: And at that time when it came out, so you're
- 26:48Speaker 10: on vacation and everybody's critiquing everything that you're doing.
- 26:51Speaker 9: It was dead.
- 26:52Speaker 4: And then you guys went on it right to light.
- 26:54Speaker 1: And it was like a supermarket recognition like where are
- 26:56Speaker 1: we at air airport?
- 26:57Speaker 9: Recognized? Yeah, no, it was good out of the country,
- 27:00Speaker 9: hats under the radar. You know, that's how I prefer to.
- 27:04Speaker 8: Be so so listen regarding sake one, you are the
- 27:07Speaker 8: kind of guy in this organization will say, you know,
- 27:09Speaker 8: we wish him nothing but the best and all that,
- 27:11Speaker 8: but really not really because you don't want him to
- 27:13Speaker 8: have a good access this year on the football field
- 27:15Speaker 8: of the Eagles, Like that's a rival he's going to.
- 27:17Speaker 4: He's coming into met life. I think it's week five
- 27:19Speaker 4: or week six, like pretty early.
- 27:21Speaker 8: What is that going to be like on that game
- 27:23Speaker 8: day for you and coach Dab's seeing Saquon I'm in
- 27:25Speaker 8: the Eagles playing against you.
- 27:27Speaker 9: Yeah, it'll be tough.
- 27:27Speaker 10: Always done for the franchise, the number two pick, you know,
- 27:30Speaker 10: it has a lot of production here and he's a
- 27:32Speaker 10: great kid.
- 27:33Speaker 9: Like I love Taquon. Again, there's there's a business side
- 27:35Speaker 9: to it.
- 27:35Speaker 10: So yeah, that's why I told him, I wish you
- 27:37Speaker 10: the best of luck except twice a year, and again,
- 27:39Speaker 10: you can't resign everybody and where we are and building
- 27:42Speaker 10: the team and is. As much as you like to
- 27:44Speaker 10: keep everybody, that's just not the reality of the situation.
- 27:46Speaker 10: So yeah, wish him luck other than two times.
- 27:47Speaker 9: A year when we play him.
- 27:49Speaker 1: The cool deal is about this season. It's the one
- 27:50Speaker 1: hundredth year of the New York Giants. It's a big
- 27:52Speaker 1: initiative here. Yesterday I practiced Strahan, Victor Cruz, Phil Simms.
- 27:57Speaker 1: Like a lot of the legends are showing their face.
- 27:59Speaker 1: This feels like a season of significance for this organization.
- 28:02Speaker 6: Do you carry that weight as well?
- 28:03Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 28:04Speaker 9: Absolutely absolutely.
- 28:05Speaker 10: And I love coming to work every day and you
- 28:06Speaker 10: see the history of the organization and you know some
- 28:08Speaker 10: of the greats that come out to practice, and my
- 28:10Speaker 10: son played in the NFL Flag Football Championship in Canton
- 28:13Speaker 10: and going through the Hall of Fame. Yeah, yeah, just
- 28:15Speaker 10: all the giants that are in the Hall of Fame,
- 28:17Speaker 10: and you know, just really cool.
- 28:18Speaker 9: And you know, I just this one hundred.
- 28:21Speaker 10: Season and being able to see how it was built
- 28:22Speaker 10: on hard knocks and then you know all the our
- 28:25Speaker 10: you know, the business side of the marketing is doing
- 28:26Speaker 10: for you know, the greats.
- 28:27Speaker 9: That came before, you know, this team.
- 28:29Speaker 10: You know, I just think it's a phenomenal time to
- 28:31Speaker 10: have the organization under the spotlight.
- 28:32Speaker 9: And you know, I'm looking forward seeing how we do.
- 28:35Speaker 4: We are too, and we haven't seen him yet, but
- 28:37Speaker 4: we heard the head coach lost like a ton of weights.
- 28:39Speaker 9: Yeah great, Yeah, he looks great. He looks phenomenal.
- 28:41Speaker 4: Yeah, awesome. Ready to win, he's ready to wain.
- 28:43Speaker 9: Yeah, he's taking plot. He's now he's big into that.
- 28:46Speaker 9: Oh yeah, the big plot's going out.
- 28:47Speaker 1: This Pilotate's place in has gotten such free we're gonna
- 28:51Speaker 1: be wearing a patch on our shirts.
- 28:53Speaker 8: Like.
- 28:54Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm hoping he's getting thirty times. I
- 28:57Speaker 10: hope he's getting some free set that the marketing they.
- 29:02Speaker 6: Exactly exactly before we let you go.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Daniel Jones season, let's call it what it is, like,
- 29:08Speaker 1: he's got a he's got to deliver.
- 29:10Speaker 6: How are you feeling about DJ as we head into
- 29:11Speaker 6: this twenty twenty four campaign.
- 29:13Speaker 10: Yeah, I feel good about him again. He had a
- 29:14Speaker 10: really good day yesterday. He stacked some good days together
- 29:17Speaker 10: last week. And again it's it's only natural with the
- 29:18Speaker 10: position to to have a little russ when you're coming
- 29:21Speaker 10: back off in HL and you know, behind an offensive line.
- 29:23Speaker 10: He didn't take any team reps this spring, so early
- 29:26Speaker 10: on he's getting used to, you know, the receivers, the timing,
- 29:30Speaker 10: some of the stuff we're doing offensively along with the
- 29:31Speaker 10: offensive line.
- 29:32Speaker 9: So I think he's really.
- 29:33Speaker 10: Progressing in the right direction and you know, I think
- 29:35Speaker 10: with the you know, the upgrades the offensive line and
- 29:37Speaker 10: some of the offensive weapons, you know, we're expecting big.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Things when you've got when you've got Dave's going like, yeah,
- 29:43Speaker 1: we could trade up for Jada and Jayden Daniels or
- 29:45Speaker 1: you got you know, Mike Kafka saying, I like Drake May,
- 29:47Speaker 1: like I know, Daniel Jones is a private guy, and
- 29:50Speaker 1: he's install learning. He's focused, Like do you go out
- 29:52Speaker 1: of your way to say, hey, there's gonna be stuff
- 29:53Speaker 1: on this, like just do your job and everything's gonna.
- 29:55Speaker 3: Be on that.
- 29:56Speaker 10: Yeah, I think whichever, maybe episode four when I was
- 29:58Speaker 10: talking to Chris Mary, I mean, that was the exact
- 29:59Speaker 10: conversation I had with Daniel and you know Dave's and
- 30:01Speaker 10: I think the communication with the players and shooting him
- 30:03Speaker 10: straight is very important, so so they're not surprised door
- 30:07Speaker 10: you know, caught out of the you know, I'll mentioned
- 30:09Speaker 10: Daniel going to the cafeteria and seeing one of those quarterbacks,
- 30:11Speaker 10: So we just wanted to be upfront with him. And again,
- 30:13Speaker 10: some of those conversations were early March. Daniel wasn't even
- 30:15Speaker 10: running at the time. So again, every patient reacts differently
- 30:19Speaker 10: to start of threes, and we didn't know if they
- 30:20Speaker 10: were going to be set back, so we're going to
- 30:22Speaker 10: it through the process, doing our due diligence the best
- 30:24Speaker 10: we could. He understood that, did he love it, know,
- 30:26Speaker 10: but he also understood from our standpoint what we were doing.
- 30:29Speaker 10: So I think the open lines of communication, you know,
- 30:31Speaker 10: made it as smooth as it possibly could have. You know,
- 30:33Speaker 10: obviously it's a little bit uncomfortable, but you know, the
- 30:36Speaker 10: communication was good on both sides, and he understood where
- 30:38Speaker 10: we're coming from.
- 30:39Speaker 8: So it's a very difficult challenge. You're a total pro.
- 30:42Speaker 8: We always love you coming by. This is season one
- 30:45Speaker 8: hundred for the New York Giants. That s Joe Shane.
- 30:47Speaker 8: He's a great GM. He's a beautiful family and had
- 30:50Speaker 8: a lot of opinions. Yeah, and if you see him
- 30:52Speaker 8: screaming careening into the field today to separate people, he
- 30:55Speaker 8: does that too.
- 30:55Speaker 6: Stay out of the mess.
- 30:56Speaker 9: Okay, I'm staying out. I'm staying out.
- 30:59Speaker 2: Joe's always good. I think he's happy Hard Knocks has done.
- 31:01Speaker 2: He came out pretty much unscathed. But those things will
- 31:04Speaker 2: come up if a doone'say has an amazing season and
- 31:07Speaker 2: it wasn't neighbors. We'll say, well, they had all three
- 31:09Speaker 2: of them in there, and they chose neighbors over a dune. Say,
- 31:12Speaker 2: if you know, God forbid, Saquon goes on and has
- 31:16Speaker 2: a two thousand yard season. We've got an entire series
- 31:19Speaker 2: that showed that the Giants thought they were better off
- 31:21Speaker 2: without him and saving and spending that money elsewhere. So
- 31:23Speaker 2: Joe's out there, is on a limb, but I feel
- 31:25Speaker 2: like he's pretty confident with this team. Now here's the
- 31:28Speaker 2: PostScript of it all. After practice, everyone breaks it up,
- 31:33Speaker 2: the Giants and Lions. It was tempers, it was cool whatever,
- 31:36Speaker 2: but it all chilled out. Lions going sign autographs, Giants
- 31:40Speaker 2: go and sign autographs. I head in to use the restroom.
- 31:42Speaker 2: I get stopped real quick and im and I'm like,
- 31:45Speaker 2: all right, Joe wants to I see Joe Shane. I'm like,
- 31:48Speaker 2: what's up. He's like, how funny is this? I had
- 31:51Speaker 2: seven missed calls while I was doing the interview with
- 31:54Speaker 2: you on Good Morning Football. I'm like, geez, what happened?
- 31:56Speaker 4: Who was it?
- 31:57Speaker 3: Like?
- 31:57Speaker 2: Are you all right? He's like, I didn't know. I'm
- 31:59Speaker 2: feeling it vibrating. I'm freaking out. I check it out
- 32:02Speaker 2: and it's his friend, Brandon Bean is the GM of
- 32:04Speaker 2: the Bills, just messing with him. He was on Live
- 32:07Speaker 2: TV and thought he would call him seven times just
- 32:09Speaker 2: to scare him. And he's like, yeah, that's Brandon, that's so,
- 32:12Speaker 2: that's fun. Those are my guys. Those are the guys
- 32:14Speaker 2: that I get lunch with at the Combine every year.
- 32:16Speaker 2: It's that trio. It's myself, Brandon Bean and Joe Shane.
- 32:21Speaker 2: And there's been sitting somewhere in Saint Joseph's College or
- 32:24Speaker 2: Buffalo wherever his Bills are playing, and he's not worried
- 32:26Speaker 2: about the team. He's calling Joe Shane seven times because
- 32:29Speaker 2: he sees his friend on live TV. Some other sightings
- 32:42Speaker 2: today saw Sean Stellato, the agent to Tommy DeVito. Tommy
- 32:48Speaker 2: DeVito is still on this team and Shaan Stellato is
- 32:50Speaker 2: still very much involved. He made his presence known. He
- 32:53Speaker 2: had a giant Italian flag on the back of his shirt.
- 32:55Speaker 2: I can't make that up. So Jason mccordy and Devin mccorty, Jason,
- 32:59Speaker 2: my dear brother, who hosted Good Morning Football for many
- 33:02Speaker 2: years with me, is no longer worth the show. We
- 33:05Speaker 2: had a great comp I will not spoil where you
- 33:09Speaker 2: will be seeing him this year, but you will be
- 33:10Speaker 2: seeing plenty of him during the season, and you will
- 33:12Speaker 2: also be seeing him on Sundays as he's doing a
- 33:14Speaker 2: CBS package and we'll be doing games for CBS on Sundays.
- 33:18Speaker 2: Happy for Jason. I saw Sean O'Hara, our dear old
- 33:21Speaker 2: friend from Good Morning Football. He used to always be
- 33:24Speaker 2: on set with us, no longer a part of it
- 33:27Speaker 2: as we're moving to La Sean was great chatting with
- 33:29Speaker 2: him for a bit. And overall, the vibes at the
- 33:33Speaker 2: Giants camp are this, Hey, nobody's talking about us. That's
- 33:37Speaker 2: right where we want to be. And you sense that
- 33:39Speaker 2: everywhere you go. And this defense watching them against the
- 33:43Speaker 2: number ones on Detroit Dexter Lawrence Okay, beast and obviously
- 33:48Speaker 2: you're looking at Keevon Thibodeaux, number five, flying off the edge.
- 33:52Speaker 2: And then they've got a really, really talented linebacker and
- 33:55Speaker 2: Bobby Ocariki, who they absolutely love, who is not a
- 33:58Speaker 2: household name, but who I think led the NFC and
- 34:01Speaker 2: tackles last year. He's one of those dudes. So they
- 34:03Speaker 2: are a very good defense, you know, obviously, you pair
- 34:07Speaker 2: the rookie from last year Banks with what they added
- 34:10Speaker 2: in the two second and third round picks Drew Phillips
- 34:14Speaker 2: and Nubin from Minnesota who they're excited about, and then
- 34:17Speaker 2: just talent all over the place. On defense, the question
- 34:19Speaker 2: is can this offensive line block anybody? And can they
- 34:23Speaker 2: figure it out as far as it goes putting up
- 34:25Speaker 2: points on the board. My last interaction as I was
- 34:27Speaker 2: leaving the building, I popped into use the restroom. I
- 34:29Speaker 2: got a drink real quick. I had like a twenty
- 34:31Speaker 2: minute talk with Drew Locke. I'll tell you what Aaron,
- 34:35Speaker 2: I love Drew Locke. I love Drew Lock as much
- 34:38Speaker 2: as I want to get on the Daniel Jones. Like
- 34:39Speaker 2: Drew Locke, he just had a kid. He's got a
- 34:41Speaker 2: seven month old son. He was awesome. He's talking about
- 34:44Speaker 2: the transition, he's talking about Dable, he's talking about the offense,
- 34:47Speaker 2: and he's talking about how he just wants to do
- 34:49Speaker 2: the best job he possibly can. He's here to compete,
- 34:51Speaker 2: he's here to do what he does. But like Drew
- 34:53Speaker 2: Lock has won games in this league, and Drew Lock
- 34:55Speaker 2: has performed in this league, and I think any talk
- 34:58Speaker 2: of like a quarterback controversy has been completely nullified. Like
- 35:01Speaker 2: it is Daniel Jones's team. Everyone knows that, and I
- 35:03Speaker 2: think Drew's even like ready to understand that. But let's
- 35:07Speaker 2: just say if things get rocky, or if Daniel Jones
- 35:09Speaker 2: Gotford Big gets injured, like I think Drew lockn win
- 35:11Speaker 2: football games for this team too. Yesterday I came out
- 35:14Speaker 2: of the Jets and I was like, that's a team
- 35:15Speaker 2: that can go to the super Bowl. That's a team
- 35:17Speaker 2: that can win the AFC Championship. I don't feel that
- 35:19Speaker 2: way about the Giants. I honestly don't, But I think
- 35:21Speaker 2: the Giants will be improved and I am excited to
- 35:24Speaker 2: see what they get out of this. Molik Neighbors. This
- 35:26Speaker 2: could be a sensation or it could be the classic
- 35:28Speaker 2: case of a guy who lights it up in July
- 35:30Speaker 2: and August gets hurt, doesn't do this, doesn't do that,
- 35:33Speaker 2: doesn't adjust to the NFL.
- 35:34Speaker 1: But like, I don't know if I've ever seen a
- 35:36Speaker 1: rookie just dominate a practice, especially with all those all
- 35:38Speaker 1: pros out there, like I did.
- 35:39Speaker 2: Milik Neighbors today, That's all I got. That is a
- 35:42Speaker 2: podcast that is two good interviews that is a head
- 35:44Speaker 2: coach a general manager. That is one of the NFL's
- 35:47Speaker 2: prime franchises in the New York Giants. But we also
- 35:49Speaker 2: got a lot of Detroit Lions today and I got
- 35:51Speaker 2: to see them, which was really cool. We'll have another
- 35:54Speaker 2: pod next week. I'm gonna be on the road. I'm
- 35:57Speaker 2: going to LA in a day. I'll see how I
- 36:01Speaker 2: can handle this ping pong yo yo situation. Maybe I'll
- 36:04Speaker 2: have some stories for you. But airport run tomorrow, LA Thursday,
- 36:09Speaker 2: back in New York Friday. Hopefully will do a pod
- 36:11Speaker 2: next week. But I loved doing the Jets and Giants
- 36:15Speaker 2: camp and I love giving you guys some insight till
- 36:18Speaker 2: next week. This is the Season with Peter Schreger.
- 36:38Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Schrager is a production of the
