- 0:00SPEAKER_03: Welcome back to Project Geekology.
- 0:02SPEAKER_03: This is episode 180.
- 0:03SPEAKER_03: I am one fourth of your host today, Dakota, and we are covering something that I never thought we would be covering.
- 0:10SPEAKER_03: And I think that goes for pretty much everyone on this podcast.
- 0:13SPEAKER_03: But we're excited to actually talk about today's topic of discussion, which is Resident Evil 2002.
- 0:21SPEAKER_03: No, we're not talking about the video game.
- 0:23SPEAKER_03: We're talking about the film by Paul W.S.
- 0:26SPEAKER_03: Anderson.
- 0:27SPEAKER_03: And yeah, I am joined as always with Anthony.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: And I thought that we were covering the other Michelle Rodriguez movie around that time.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: I thought we were doing Fast and the Furious.
- 0:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, actually, we were debating back and forth for like a couple days, you know, like maybe we should do Fast and the Furious 1 or Resident Evil 1.
- 0:49SPEAKER_03: And I I jokingly said, just watch one of them and hopefully we all kind of choose the same one.
- 0:55SPEAKER_03: I I'm I'm glad we clarified Resident Evil for this one.
- 0:58SPEAKER_03: But I am excited to do Fast and the Furious someday because I haven't seen it since I was a kid.
- 1:03SPEAKER_03: And I've not seen anything past two.
- 1:06SPEAKER_03: So I don't know anything that happens past that point.
- 1:09SPEAKER_03: You didn't see Tokyo Drift?
- 1:11SPEAKER_03: Never saw Tokyo Drift.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: No, that's like the only one I've seen.
- 1:14SPEAKER_03: There you go.
- 1:14SPEAKER_03: There you have it.
- 1:15SPEAKER_03: I like Tokyo Drift.
- 1:17SPEAKER_03: We're way off topic, guys.
- 1:19SPEAKER_03: Let's uh we have Anthony on board.
- 1:20SPEAKER_03: Who else do we have on board?
- 1:22SPEAKER_02: Rain.
- 1:23SPEAKER_02: It's me, Michelle Virgigas.
- 1:25SPEAKER_02: No, uh, it's Rich.
- 1:27SPEAKER_02: Sorry.
- 1:28SPEAKER_02: Sorry if I fooled you guys.
- 1:29SPEAKER_02: Oh, I was fooled.
- 1:30SPEAKER_02: I'm really excited.
- 1:31SPEAKER_02: I'm kind of excited to talk about this movie.
- 1:33SPEAKER_02: Uh, and uh, but we can't do it alone, and this week we're joined by Hey, I'm Jen.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: I'm the uh the mother of Dakota's child.
- 1:42SPEAKER_03: Yes, that is my baby mama over there, sitting right next to me.
- 1:46SPEAKER_03: We actually have the baby here and he is asleep, so Jen can join us for pretty much as long as the baby is willing to stay asleep.
- 1:54SPEAKER_03: So we will jump into the discussion ASAP.
- 1:57SPEAKER_03: Before we get into anything, what have we been up to, folks?
- 2:00SPEAKER_03: Any anything worthwhile?
- 2:02SPEAKER_03: I think I'll start today just because I'm already rambling.
- 2:05SPEAKER_03: Why not?
- 2:06SPEAKER_03: Lanterns.
- 2:07SPEAKER_03: Lanterns is really fun.
- 2:09SPEAKER_03: What?
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: It's like you took an adderall or something.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: You're all hyped up.
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: I did not take an adderall.
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: Did you dress like Hal Jordan again?
- 2:15SPEAKER_02: Uh on purpose?
- 2:16SPEAKER_02: Again.
- 2:18SPEAKER_03: Did I dress like Hal Jordan previously?
- 2:20SPEAKER_03: I think you had like a uh flannel last time we recorded, so oh no, I'm just I'm just in as soon as it starts getting a little chilly, I turn into Lumberjack Dakota.
- 2:30SPEAKER_03: Um, I wear a t-shirt and you know, a flannel shirt over the t-shirt, and that's that's my work look.
- 2:37SPEAKER_03: I'm an electrician.
- 2:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I've been enjoying lanterns.
- 2:40SPEAKER_03: Uh I have not watched episode seven, but the finale is this coming weekend.
- 2:46SPEAKER_03: And I don't know about you guys.
- 2:48SPEAKER_03: Would you be interested in covering lanterns next week?
- 2:50SPEAKER_03: You know, now that uh it's it's all coming to a fruition.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we could do lanterns.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: Um, I think that would be a good topic.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: I be uh it it's been a pretty good show.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: I'm behind a few episodes, but from what I've seen, I I've enjoyed it.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: It's really good.
- 3:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 3:09SPEAKER_02: I would probably do it in like uh brightest day or blackest night, which whichever one.
- 3:14SPEAKER_02: You're you're but that show won't escape my sight.
- 3:17SPEAKER_03: Are you saying you would do it if, or you would do it no matter what?
- 3:21SPEAKER_02: I would run through a wall to podcast for that show.
- 3:24SPEAKER_02: I am so hyped.
- 3:26SPEAKER_03: I wasn't sure if that was like a rain or shine sort of thing.
- 3:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, okay, very good.
- 3:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I was just doing the oath, just doing the oath to prove how dedicated I am to this.
- 3:34SPEAKER_02: The oath?
- 3:34SPEAKER_02: Never heard of it.
- 3:35SPEAKER_02: He's trolling you.
- 3:36SPEAKER_03: I'm trolling.
- 3:37SPEAKER_02: Oh you got me, you got me, man.
- 3:41SPEAKER_03: I got me not so famously decided to tell one of my coworkers when I first started doing electrical work that I collected comic books and that I was excited for Green Lantern 2011.
- 3:54SPEAKER_03: And he's like, What?
- 3:57SPEAKER_03: What do you mean?
- 3:57SPEAKER_03: I'm like, yeah, I even know the oath.
- 3:59SPEAKER_03: I recited the oath to him and he he like I think he lost a lot of respect for me.
- 4:04SPEAKER_03: I think he gained a little bit of respect, but lost more.
- 4:07SPEAKER_03: So I I have been a little bit more guarded with who I tell people things ever since.
- 4:12SPEAKER_03: But anyway, uh Lantern's good.
- 4:14SPEAKER_03: I also I I never really spoke about it, but I I've been watching or I have watched Spider Noir.
- 4:20SPEAKER_03: I finally got through that.
- 4:21SPEAKER_03: Fantastic series.
- 4:23SPEAKER_03: Incredible, incredible series, and I'm so upset that it's just a one and done, but what a what a way to go out.
- 4:30SPEAKER_03: Like it's just a perfect little season.
- 4:32SPEAKER_03: Beautiful.
- 4:33SPEAKER_03: Like it's I don't know how you could watch any color.
- 4:35SPEAKER_03: Like it's just like the it's made for black and white, clearly.
- 4:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's what an incredible movie.
- 4:40SPEAKER_03: Or series.
- 4:41SPEAKER_03: Felt like a movie.
- 4:42SPEAKER_03: What about you guys?
- 4:43SPEAKER_03: What have you been up to?
- 4:44SPEAKER_03: Anthony.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: Uh nothing too crazy.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: I have I've been playing World of Warcraft forever, the beta.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: You know, I'm trying to bait Dakota back into the the world of Azeroth.
- 4:57SPEAKER_03: Never heard of it.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, I've been enjoying that.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: I so it's like an alternate version of Vanilla of like the original World of Warcraft.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: So they've added a new race that I guess was like around in the lore called the Skyborn Elves, and you can you can play them.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: So I created a mage, a skyborn elf mage, and they are level 20 now.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: That's the cap right now for the beta.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: I think tomorrow they're about to raise it up to 30, and then it's gonna be 30 for the rest of the beta, and then once it fully re releases in November, it'll shoot back up to like the base 60.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: And then I think it's gonna they're gonna stay keep it like that at 60.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: Like the the cap isn't gonna go up, so I'm interested in seeing like what they're gonna do to like keep it fresh.
- 5:47SPEAKER_03: So is Wild Classic still a thing or yes, Wild Classic is still a thing.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: So there's like World of Warcraft Classic, and then they have a Burning Crusade like server also, but they're up to Mists of Pandaria on like the when they first released Classic, like they they've been like releasing the expansions.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: The expansions, yeah, over time.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: And so yeah, they've kept it at mists now for a little while.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: I don't know if they're gonna like keep moving up, which that one I think that the reason why they set up uh like classic vanilla and like the Burning Crusade is that they're probably gonna just like plan on moving that one up until maybe probably not like you know super recent expansions, but I I can imagine them them moving it up a little bit more.
- 6:41SPEAKER_03: For those of you who don't follow the original World of Warcraft game, it's been out for well over 20 years at this point.
- 6:47SPEAKER_03: I think it's like 22 years now.
- 6:49SPEAKER_03: It's had a number of expansions, and probably about four or five years ago they announced WoW Classic, which brings the players back to the original state of the game, and you've been able to enjoy the expansions as they would have come out 15, 20 years ago.
- 7:06SPEAKER_03: But now, you know, like so you're you're experiencing that now.
- 7:10SPEAKER_03: And now they're doing World of Warcraft Forever, which is basically a reset again back to the original base game, plus a little bit of extra.
- 7:18SPEAKER_03: So a lot there's a lot going on with uh World of Warcraft.
- 7:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: It's a true uh classic plus, like that that's what people have been kind of wanting, like a classic plus, and like this is what it is the classic, but like with you know, changes made to it.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: With plus.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: So but yeah, that that's what I I've been mostly doing.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: I mean, outside of like regular and normal going to the gym and and uh errands and stuff, that like that's like the biggest thing that I've been up to is uh wow forever.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: What about you, Rich?
- 7:53SPEAKER_02: Let's see.
- 7:54SPEAKER_02: I think since we last spoke, I got Wolverine finally.
- 7:58SPEAKER_02: I uh got to play it.
- 7:59SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, it's a little bit more.
- 8:01SPEAKER_03: You've told us a little bit you've told us a little bit about it.
- 8:06SPEAKER_02: I put it down for a little bit.
- 8:07SPEAKER_02: I don't want to rush through it too much.
- 8:09SPEAKER_02: So I did start to see some of the the hand holding they have with uh the scent markers and uh I think they've patched uh quite a bit of that, right?
- 8:19SPEAKER_02: A l a little bit, yeah, but there's still this scent marker in some of the areas that's kind of ridiculous.
- 8:25SPEAKER_02: But um I'm still enjoying it.
- 8:27SPEAKER_02: I got uh I also got my hands on the completely free PS5 remaster of The Witcher 3.
- 8:34SPEAKER_02: So if you own a copy of The Witcher 3 uh and you have a PS5, just fire it up.
- 8:39SPEAKER_02: They up they upgraded all the graphics, they made the some of the UI menus way easier.
- 8:47SPEAKER_02: They actually refunded like when I logged in, all my points were like refund, like my skill tree points were refunded so that I could kind of go back at it again, which actually is a little daunting, so I I took a pause on that.
- 9:00SPEAKER_02: But it I I just kind of played around a little bit for about 15-20 minutes and it just looks fantastic.
- 9:05SPEAKER_02: I love The Witcher.
- 9:07SPEAKER_02: I mean, if you if you played that game, this is definitely it's definitely a great time to jump on and play again.
- 9:14SPEAKER_02: If you've never played it, I would say it's worth the money just to get it because it even I think it's at a low price and it comes with all the expansions, so it's definitely worth your time.
- 9:24SPEAKER_03: Uh going back a little bit, Jen, you um you probably don't know what we're talking about when it comes to Wolverine and all the the drama that's been going on with that.
- 9:33SPEAKER_03: So it's a big major game that that has been in the works for quite a while.
- 9:37SPEAKER_03: It's Insomniac.
- 9:39SPEAKER_03: Um the people who make like Ratchet and Clank and the Spider-Man games.
- 9:43SPEAKER_03: They created a Wolverine game that takes place in the same universe as the Spider-Man game, but they've made it so absurdly easy.
- 9:54SPEAKER_03: It is um being just ragged.
- 9:56SPEAKER_03: So like you know how like some some games will have like treasure boxes that you have to find?
- 10:01SPEAKER_03: These are like literally like you'll see it like ping on the map, like from like a football field away.
- 10:08SPEAKER_03: There's a there's a noise that you have to like there's a scent marker towards each of these treasure, and there there's some levels that you could literally play hands-free, like there's like motorcycle up levels that like you can just drive down the highway hands-free collecting the the and and the guard written.
- 10:26SPEAKER_03: I miss collectibles.
- 10:27SPEAKER_02: I miss collectibles at two levels somehow.
- 10:30SPEAKER_02: That's crazy.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: I don't even know that's possible.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: He ignored it.
- 10:34SPEAKER_02: He was like, I see that I just kind of ignored it, and I I don't know.
- 10:38SPEAKER_02: I somehow I was like, how did am I the only human who missed collectibles in this game?
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: No, you saw it and you're like, you know what, I'm not gonna follow that marker.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: You're rebelling against it.
- 10:49SPEAKER_02: And uh the last thing and I'll pass it off to Jen.
- 10:52SPEAKER_02: I uh I watched the uh the Dexter Resurrection season from tw I think it's from like a year or two ago, because the new the second season's coming out.
- 11:02SPEAKER_02: So I was a big fan of Dexter from the Jeff Lindsay books.
- 11:05SPEAKER_02: I originally read all the books so before the series came out, so I've been a huge fan of Dexter.
- 11:10SPEAKER_02: It's a little absurd, you know.
- 11:11SPEAKER_02: Uh there is a part of me that's like it has to run its court, like you gotta stop with this.
- 11:16SPEAKER_02: Like you're a serial killer, you can't keep getting away with it.
- 11:19SPEAKER_02: But I really enjoyed it.
- 11:21SPEAKER_02: I don't know, it's really fun.
- 11:21SPEAKER_03: So, that they went woke and got rid of his laboratory.
- 11:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean there's listen, I don't know.
- 11:30SPEAKER_02: You guys know I lower my standards.
- 11:32SPEAKER_02: I also am a fan of Dakota.
- 11:34SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry to tell you this.
- 11:35SPEAKER_02: I liked Picard.
- 11:36SPEAKER_02: Admit it got me in the feels.
- 11:38SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry.
- 11:38SPEAKER_02: Um, Jen, what about I can't lower I can't lower my standards.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: I can't lower my standards.
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: Uh uh otherwise I would have liked the uh the M Knight Shyamalan Avatar movie.
- 11:50SPEAKER_03: I I don't know if my joke landed with everyone.
- 11:52SPEAKER_03: I was just I was equating the Dexter series about a you know, the serial killer who kills serial killers with Dexter's laboratory, the Cartoon Network cartoon.
- 12:02SPEAKER_03: And I don't know, I don't know that that landed with everyone.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: I feel like there was some I've never seen Dexter, so it's like he had a lab.
- 12:11SPEAKER_02: He did.
- 12:11SPEAKER_02: He worked in the lab in Miami when he worked for the Miami Police Department.
- 12:15SPEAKER_02: So I thought you were referencing the fact that in the new series he doesn't have that anymore.
- 12:19SPEAKER_02: And I was like, deep cut, Dakota, deep cut.
- 12:21SPEAKER_03: Wow, I was more right than I realized.
- 12:23SPEAKER_03: No.
- 12:24SPEAKER_03: What have you been up to?
- 12:25SPEAKER_03: Anything special?
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: Uh I've gotten like really addicted to eBay.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: I'm really, really into eBay.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: I'm checking eBay like constantly, looking for vintage stamps.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: I'm looking for vintage Disney TV shirt or TVs or um like in different shirts.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: Like I it it's actually like such a problem.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: But there's a community, and that community is monstrous.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: There's like a certain t-shirt that I want that I've discovered, and I really want it, but apparently a lot of other people want the shirt too, and every time one gets onto eBay, people immediately start bidding for it, and I've seen it go up to$600.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: I can't get the shirt.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: I'll never get the shirt because the the eBay girls are too they're too good.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: I don't know how they're doing this, and I don't know how they can afford this lifestyle.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: So far, I bought one shirt for eleven dollars, and I bought another shirt for nine dollars.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: I'm not in there I've just decided to I've lowered my standards because I realized I can't play with the big boys.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: So I need to go to different vintage Disney shirts and not the one that I actually want.
- 13:29SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: I also bought some Beatles stamps.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: It has Did those come in?
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: No, I think they're gonna get here on Friday.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: Very excited for my stamps.
- 13:37SPEAKER_02: Vintage Beatles stamps.
- 13:39SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 13:39SPEAKER_02: Listen, don't tell my wife, but I have two pairs of shorts coming in for$17.
- 13:44SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 13:45SPEAKER_02: That I can wear to work, alright?
- 13:47SPEAKER_02: Alright, so shh.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: That's exciting.
- 13:50SPEAKER_03: Alright, let's jump into our topic of discussion today.
- 13:55SPEAKER_03: Resident Evil.
- 13:57SPEAKER_03: This is a a film that really is not that scary.
- 14:01SPEAKER_03: But, you know, 10 well, no, it would have been like 11 or 12 year old me thought this was terrifying at the time.
- 14:08SPEAKER_03: You know, like there there are some jumps in here that definitely got me, and um I remember them.
- 14:14SPEAKER_03: Like I was able to like tell Jen in the next five seconds there's gonna be a jump scare.
- 14:19SPEAKER_03: I haven't seen this movie in like two decades.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: So this was I feel like you should tell the listeners how you watched this movie.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: Where did you watch it from, DeFoto?
- 14:28SPEAKER_03: This was a funny, this is a a weird uh story, and it's gonna sound terrible.
- 14:32SPEAKER_03: I realize when I say it now, this is a really it sounds worse than it actually was.
- 14:38SPEAKER_03: I watched the movie in a dog cage because I didn't want to watch the movie, but my dad thought it would put some hair in my chest as a preteen and decided.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: I thought you meant for the show you watched it in the dog cage.
- 14:52SPEAKER_02: I was like, Dakota.
- 14:54SPEAKER_01: No, and Dakota was like 11 or 12 years old.
- 14:57SPEAKER_02: Okay, this makes it so I thought you were in preparation for today, you watched it from a dog cage.
- 15:02SPEAKER_03: No, no, no, no.
- 15:03SPEAKER_03: Like my dad, my dad's like, all right, get in the cage, go.
- 15:06SPEAKER_03: And I was just like, okay.
- 15:08SPEAKER_03: He's just like, you're gonna watch this and be like and be a man.
- 15:11SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, then why am I in a dog cage?
- 15:15SPEAKER_03: So anyway.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: Anthony, you could picture this, right?
- 15:18SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 15:19SPEAKER_03: Um Anthony probably cages.
- 15:21SPEAKER_03: Anthony probably watched it.
- 15:23SPEAKER_03: It was an actual dog cage, it wasn't a human cage.
- 15:25SPEAKER_03: It was, I was, you know, I was a small person back then.
- 15:27SPEAKER_03: I told Jen this.
- 15:28SPEAKER_03: Did you break out like the dogs?
- 15:30SPEAKER_03: I should have, actually.
- 15:31SPEAKER_03: That would have been good.
- 15:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, like uh T Virus Dad.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: I I told Jen about this on our first ever date, and in her in, you know, like yes, this is a story he told me on our first date, and I was like, And I was like, our mind was like abused.
- 15:46SPEAKER_03: And I was yeah, I was just I was like, yeah, my dad's super weird.
- 15:49SPEAKER_03: Like, this is a funny story.
- 15:50SPEAKER_03: Let me tell her about this time that you know, and she thinks I was abused.
- 15:54SPEAKER_03: I was not abused.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: I was so like scared to meet his parents because I was like, they're psychos, like clearly, you know, they locked their kid in a dog cage and made him watch Resident Evil.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: I had also never seen Resident Evil, so I thought it was like really scary.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: But then I met Dakota's dad and I just realized he's like cripplingly Puerto Rican, and that all like it all kind of evens out when you meet him.
- 16:13SPEAKER_02: But uh when I'm scared, go into a cage, like that's what I do, like all the time, just in case.
- 16:19SPEAKER_02: You're safe in the cage.
- 16:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:21SPEAKER_03: Did you have a towel or just it was like I just had a dog like dog food, like that's it.
- 16:27SPEAKER_03: Uh no.
- 16:28SPEAKER_03: Um I don't even remember all that much about it.
- 16:31SPEAKER_03: I I think I ended up getting out of the cage and just watching the movie like a normal person.
- 16:35SPEAKER_03: But I thought that was a fun.
- 16:37SPEAKER_03: It is definitely good first eight stories.
- 16:39SPEAKER_03: It is definitely a fun memory that I have of my childhood.
- 16:43SPEAKER_03: And the movie's definitely I would say it's actually a pretty bad zombie movie, all things considered.
- 16:49SPEAKER_03: Like it really is a a low ball zombie movie, but it is a high concept anti-corporate movie.
- 16:56SPEAKER_03: Like uh in in terms of like how do we make corporations, big mega corporations, look bad.
- 17:02SPEAKER_03: This is pretty high on the list.
- 17:03SPEAKER_03: You know, like Umbrella was up to some shady stuff.
- 17:06SPEAKER_02: You know what my favorite part about this movie is?
- 17:08SPEAKER_02: Tell me.
- 17:09SPEAKER_02: The absolute absence of dates.
- 17:11SPEAKER_02: Right, like it doesn't like the entire it doesn't matter.
- 17:14SPEAKER_02: Like, you don't know what day it is, you don't know what year it is.
- 17:16SPEAKER_02: It makes me really happy to watch a movie with no dates.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: Uh-oh.
- 17:20SPEAKER_03: Well, there is one.
- 17:22SPEAKER_03: Wait, there's one?
- 17:23SPEAKER_03: There is a single date, yes.
- 17:25SPEAKER_03: Can you Where'd you find it?
- 17:26SPEAKER_03: Can you guess?
- 17:27SPEAKER_03: It's at the very end.
- 17:29SPEAKER_02: Oh, does it like give you the year when they're in racco uh what year it is in Raccoon City?
- 17:34SPEAKER_03: No.
- 17:34SPEAKER_03: But uh at the end, when she gets she like awakens from her slumber when she's being like she has all those IVs in her.
- 17:43SPEAKER_03: She walks out and there's a newspaper dangling that says The Dead Walk.
- 17:48SPEAKER_03: And it's dated to September 24th, 2002.
- 17:52SPEAKER_03: And September's actually a pretty big time for Resident Evil.
- 17:55SPEAKER_03: The actual Raccoon City outbreak happened in like sep late September 1998.
- 18:03SPEAKER_03: So Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 both take place, I think, like September 28th and September 29th, those around those dates.
- 18:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 18:15SPEAKER_03: Anthony, we haven't heard anything from you.
- 18:17SPEAKER_03: Thoughts on this movie so far?
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: So far, I mean it has nothing to do with uh any of the games.
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: Like it it's it's like uh Resident Evil adjacent, but you know, I mean, yeah, the first game you're like in a mansion, but you it's it's completely different.
- 18:39SPEAKER_00: Um it's like the director was like, you know what?
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: I want to make a Resident Evil movie, but I want it to be the essence of Resident Evil, not actually Resident Evil, but the essence.
- 18:54SPEAKER_02: So but there was the there was the statue that clearly was in like the blue room to the right of the stairs in the mansion that when you pushed it over, that's where one of the gems came out so that you could solve one of the puzzles.
- 19:06SPEAKER_02: They gave you that much, right?
- 19:08SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 19:09SPEAKER_00: They didn't give you anything else.
- 19:11SPEAKER_00: They didn't give you uh like j it's just it was hardly I mean you got I mean you did get zombies and the I guess the the beginnings of you know the you got like the nemesis that's kind that's gonna like you know pop up and the like later ones, but I don't know, it's just going back and uh like you know I played through the the first like I would say no I I've I've played through them all except for like the most recent ones like seven, eight, and then nine.
- 19:44SPEAKER_00: I haven't played those.
- 19:46SPEAKER_03: But like I've played up to like six and yeah, no, it's some of those old they're they're painful to play, uh especially like in the close quarters because the camera moved like crazy.
- 19:57SPEAKER_03: I think it was like two or three.
- 19:58SPEAKER_03: Like what were they thinking?
- 20:00SPEAKER_03: It's the most janky control.
- 20:03SPEAKER_00: And it's like tank cover.
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: It's like tank controls too.
- 20:06SPEAKER_02: Okay, guys.
- 20:07SPEAKER_02: Alright, okay.
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: If you go back and play them now, yeah, alright, but like in that moment, okay, in that moment, all right, unbelievable.
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: Alright, and I'm not gonna lie to you.
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: My friends and I went to go see this movie, and our hype level was so high, so freaking high.
- 20:25SPEAKER_02: And my goodness, I walked out of that theater downright angry, like downright angry, and and I'm not gonna lie to you, I rewatched it and I tried to be like, just remember, this basically has nothing to do with the seminal game of your youth.
- 20:42SPEAKER_02: Alright, this is a game that my friends and I would hang out with all the time.
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: I would have to call my friend up and be like, dude, I'm getting to a part, I can't do it.
- 20:50SPEAKER_02: Please, I need company.
- 20:52SPEAKER_02: Like, I just needed somebody to be there with me.
- 20:54SPEAKER_02: I remember in was it Resident Evil 4, your Leon Kennedy, you walk into this domed room, and I'm on a bridge, my friends are all watching me play, and it's like two in the morning, and I get attacked by like 50,000 giant crickets or something, and I screamed like a young girl.
- 21:10SPEAKER_02: I went, ah, and threw the controller in the air, seminal moment, none of my friends will ever let me forget it.
- 21:17SPEAKER_02: Alright, I love the I love everything about this franchise.
- 21:21SPEAKER_02: I don't love the last couple of games because I think he changed it too much, and that's too scary for me.
- 21:27SPEAKER_02: But this had so much potential.
- 21:31SPEAKER_02: If Barry's in the game and he just says, You're the master of unlocking things, Jill, I theaters across America would have had their roofs blown off by how the fans cheering for that fan service, and they gave us none of it.
- 21:45SPEAKER_02: They gave us no fan service whatsoever.
- 21:47SPEAKER_02: Sorry.
- 21:48SPEAKER_03: No, that's okay.
- 21:50SPEAKER_03: I definitely appreciate the honesty here.
- 21:52SPEAKER_03: And it's actually kind of refreshing because we've talked about other video game adaptations that like.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: don't ru that you know the rest of us don't feel meet that mark and it's nice that the uh it's you this time you know it's it's nice to hear it from from it's nice when Rich actually dislikes something it is nice when Rich dislikes something it gives it because I I could have given us a beret one beret one beret and I would have felt a little bit better.
- 22:21SPEAKER_02: Why can't why can't what's her name Mila Joyovich wear beret?
- 22:24SPEAKER_02: I don't care like just something.
- 22:27SPEAKER_02: She's not you even had the team why couldn't you name the team that came in to do the cleanup why can't they be the special forces unit that went in in the first game that actually had a problem in the mansion.
- 22:40SPEAKER_02: You had it you copied some of it but then you decided to not give anybody who cared about the game any real reason to connect with the movie.
- 22:50SPEAKER_03: So here's the thing we've Mute me for five minutes sorry no no it's okay you can I actually like I'm I'm talking to you here we have had this director we like we've uh spoken about this director recently fairly recently he also did another 90s video game known as Mortal Kombat you know he did Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat 2 he also did all of these Resident Evil movies he's done quite a few video game adaptations and he just kind of takes the concept he just cherry picks what he likes.
- 23:23SPEAKER_03: And remember this is 2002 so this is fairly soon after the games took place.
- 23:29SPEAKER_03: So it was Capcom immediately just optioning it off to mute movie studios and Paul WS Anderson is the the guy to to you know make an action movie about your the things you love.
- 23:43SPEAKER_03: And that's what happened with Resident Evil.
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: But our cat has decided to jump I think he wants to sit with me which is and he's like annoyed because he was crying at me inch forward do you want to sit behind me?
- 23:57SPEAKER_03: Here you can sit in okay cats are weird but let's throw the video game out of the window for a second and talk about the actual movie because that's actually what we're here to discuss.
- 24:08SPEAKER_03: I do like the you know comparative discussion about you know like our thoughts going into this I just I was hoping for more puzzles you know like personally like one thing that's great about hospitals in the Resident Evil world is the architects just decided you know what this room needs a puzzle.
- 24:29SPEAKER_03: And that's just what they did.
- 24:31SPEAKER_03: You know they they created puzzles for those poor patients.
- 24:36SPEAKER_03: But we didn't get much of that we just got an action movie with Mila Jovovich um I mean she's gorgeous I will say and her outfit was super cute.
- 24:46SPEAKER_01: The red dress and then the boots that was such a cool fit.
- 24:51SPEAKER_01: And then like somebody lent her a jacket and it fit her perfectly like it was like Sister of the traveling pants that jacket shouldn't have fit her so well.
- 24:58SPEAKER_03: So Jen you're coming at this completely blind you've never played a Resident Evil game you've never seen a Resident Evil movie so this is something completely foreign to you what were your honest thoughts?
- 25:09SPEAKER_01: I mean I thought it was really stupid but in a fun way it was really funny stupid the dogs like they just took these like Dobermans and like put red paint on them or something like that.
- 25:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah they just they covered these dogs in meat basically they covered these dogs in meat strips and like the dogs looked really cute to me like they just looked like really cute pups.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: The characters I like Michelle Rodriguez.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: I like that like she's been doing action stuff for so long.
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: I feel like if she was a man she'd be so much more famous than she is like you think of like The Rock or like Vin Diesel are their talent levels so much higher than hers?
- 25:48SPEAKER_03: I think she's kind of on par with Vin Diesel to be honest.
- 25:51SPEAKER_01: I feel like a lot more people know Vin Diesel than know her by me.
- 25:56SPEAKER_02: But she's so big that she just plays her not her I don't know if it's herself right but it's basically the same exact character in every movie.
- 26:05SPEAKER_02: Always like she's just herself like it's not you know that that like V Vin Diesel had to be the pacifier you know like and he had to like play like a nanny you know like I'm not sure if that's really Vin Diesel's uh you know character but he might Michelle Virgigas is so badass that like she's in everything as just okay be you and then like that's it's super cool and intimidating.
- 26:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:27SPEAKER_01: But I don't I don't know I thought the movie was like I like I liked when that guy got like diced into cubes.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: So I've seen like parodies of that and I didn't know what it was from it's such a ridiculous thing.
- 26:41SPEAKER_00: I like I like saw it coming I'm like oh my god is it gonna cube him is that what this is there no way around this this hallway of death like and then like his eye was like leaking like I like even if you cubed him like when his eyes start like leaking like it was like like like the whites of his eyes like turned into egg whites yeah that's what happens bro that was crazy but I feel like I feel like that era had there was a vibe that these movies had like I I I think it kind of started in the 90s and it bled into the to the 2000s but I feel like we got a lot of these movies where people would get trapped in a place and they would have to escape.
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: Was it the namely there's one movie called the Cube and the it's like a prison that they have to kind of like escape but like they people each room is has some sort of trap in it like they'll get like killed.
- 27:41SPEAKER_00: And so like the this is almost the same thing but they have to go through either like you know a security like a security trap or like rooms of zombies.
- 27:51SPEAKER_00: So I feel like that like this era like this movie kind of like fits into like just what it was like what the type of movies that were coming out around that time.
- 28:02SPEAKER_00: As far as like you know horror esque movies.
- 28:06SPEAKER_01: They have to go into different rooms and then do like what the clown dude tells them, right?
- 28:11SPEAKER_00: Wait which one?
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: Saw yeah yeah yeah you're right I feel like it's a similar concept to what you're saying.
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah like it just like something you have to like do a task and then you get to another room.
- 28:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:22SPEAKER_00: And then do another task yeah.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: I do like in movies when like everybody was super beautiful like all of the actors in this like everybody was just like really really really good looking.
- 28:35SPEAKER_01: Even when they before things went down when they were just like walking around the office it looked so unrealistic because everyone's just so attractive that it took me out of the movie a bit.
- 28:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah it looked like they were all like WB actors or like even just like the background people you know that were becoming zombies were yeah like in their human form before they became the zombies were really good looking.
- 28:58SPEAKER_01: I also thought it was weird that nobody in this movie seemed to understand what a zombie was like zombies just never existed like they like even the concept of zombies didn't exist.
- 29:06SPEAKER_03: You guys never like the when there's like a couple of things Resident Evil games even call them zombies or are they just the infected?
- 29:13SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna look that up yeah no no I think that I think that in the first game like Barry or somebody was like I think I just got attacked by a zombie like the I believe it is something listen I'm not gonna lie to you if a coworker looks really sick I might cap him you know like I might be like getting infected so like I just don't even understand any kind of world where someone is not prepared.
- 29:39SPEAKER_02: There's that scene where he shoots like the woman in the leg three times.
- 29:43SPEAKER_02: Yes moving towards him that was that was like okay after the second in a leg I'm going for the head I don't care like I'm sorry.
- 29:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah that's what I was thinking about it's just so stupid like even if they didn't use the like the word zombies like you could see there's something wrong and this person's like not a person anymore and trying to eat you so why are you like still trying to talk to it?
- 30:07SPEAKER_02: Oh and maybe this person had rabies you know yeah maybe they're rabid do you guys love uh I love tech guy's arc right tech guy if feels like he's alone because he messed up somehow then uh he gets he gets go without me guys go you know he has the gun in his mouth pulls the trigger and then you go back and he's like you're gonna have to work to get your meal today crawls off right and then like saves the day at the end only then to be like taken out by the liquor like right when they're about to exit like it's just like man you should have just bit the bullet my friend like what are you talking about?
- 30:43SPEAKER_03: The the liquor is the that like monster the monster that licks yes yeah that's the only thing they kind of got right yeah yeah that's true actually that guy did like die a really horrible death in the end.
- 30:55SPEAKER_02: Like basically almost two times like right like he avoided the death just so he could just die again.
- 31:01SPEAKER_03: What did we think of Mila Jovovich's character like her arc not necessarily so pretty okay I'm more talking about like the the idea that like she was being paid to to get information out of or no she was paying someone else to get information I don't even remember.
- 31:21SPEAKER_02: No no no Lisa was going to pay her to get information on the umbrella company because Lisa is the new the reporter Matt you know is her brother who's trying to follow up on what happened with Lisa.
- 31:33SPEAKER_01: Alright so that's why Matt is the evil principal from the OC.
- 31:37SPEAKER_01: So he gets punched in the face by Ryan.
- 31:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah yes the the Resident Evil games do explicitly call them zombies.
- 31:48SPEAKER_02: I will tell you that Mila my thoughts on Mila I'll tell you real quick not Jill Valentine okay that's what I thought not Claire Redfield.
- 31:56SPEAKER_02: I think this movie made me dislike this actress like I don't think I've liked much of what she's been in because I was so furious about this the I think the character ruined her career a little bit.
- 32:08SPEAKER_00: I mean I I don't want to say that but like it's good well deserved that's not really no but yeah she was on the up and up with like the fifth element you know she did that in the 90s.
- 32:19SPEAKER_03: But I think she turned her career into female action hero and that only takes you so far and that's gonna you're gonna cap out of like what you can possibly do and your age limit and everything.
- 32:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah I feel like she's probably a really good actress but we don't get to see that in this series.
- 32:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah they just have her kind of staring around she doesn't have a lot of the back oh the the flashbacks love it love love when we get most of our information from flashbacks in short in short snippets.
- 32:49SPEAKER_02: Oh my type of movie guys uh just really like there's so much if they just did it in chronological order I think it would have been fine too we didn't need her to be so confused.
- 33:01SPEAKER_02: It would have been fine.
- 33:02SPEAKER_02: It would have been fine for us to know where they both stood and then watch them not like not have memory of this and then have the anticipation of when are they going to realize that those two are gonna you know uh Mila and good looking dude are gonna Thomas that's unclear in this movie I think it's Thomas Thomas yeah Punisher yeah when Punisher and Mila are gonna finally remember they hate each other right like I would have liked that anticipation.
- 33:29SPEAKER_02: I think they they lost an opportunity to have that as part of like what I think the audience having prior knowledge can actually make something even more exciting because it's gonna build and build.
- 33:39SPEAKER_02: Do you agree with that?
- 33:40SPEAKER_01: I like I'm actually confused.
- 33:42SPEAKER_01: Like I didn't I feel like I was really confused.
- 33:44SPEAKER_01: So were their marriage was not real right not real.
- 33:48SPEAKER_03: But they had sex anyway that's what you do well when in Rome.
- 33:52SPEAKER_01: Like that wasn't when at Record City nobody made them do that right so like they did have a romantic relationship.
- 33:59SPEAKER_03: Yes what a they really forced their hand with that one.
- 34:02SPEAKER_01: But like when did they decide that they hated each other?
- 34:05SPEAKER_01: Like I don't understand.
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: So it's like you were forced for your job into a fake marriage.
- 34:09SPEAKER_03: I think it's not that they hated each other it's just they had different motives you know like one guy wanted to burn the world the other one just wanted to release information.
- 34:18SPEAKER_02: I don't know it was confusing as he's his motive doesn't make sense because he was a company man, I think I think he was trying to get everything out what he was trying to do was he was trying to escape with the T virus and the cure and then by igniting the Red Queen to destroy everything, even if Mila had gotten any news out everything would have been erased and then he could have brought it back to the company or sold to outside people.
- 34:45SPEAKER_03: You're all going to die in here thoughts on the Red Queen Anthony um it is a homicidal child AI like seriously homicidal like they they really programmed like some real cruel deaths into that little AI girl like that dicing that poor guy.
- 35:06SPEAKER_00: They're like yeah you know we don't want you to just secure this area we want you to maim we want you to just like the I don't want these people to be recognized ever again.
- 35:17SPEAKER_00: Just make them into meat cubes.
- 35:19SPEAKER_03: Also like there's a couple things the meat cubes it plays with him too like it plays like it the laser beam like goes up to him and then just stops and then cubes him.
- 35:34SPEAKER_03: Like it it's playing with the food.
- 35:36SPEAKER_03: And then there's like Rich like yeah they they come back to that hallway and they're like where are all the body parts and it's completely like sterile clean like who did this why did they do this?
- 35:46SPEAKER_02: Because there's no way zombies would have I don't think the zombies actually do they eat or is it just that they're spreading no no they they do they hunger they eat that is zombie kibble you know yeah but like they would have left blood everywhere like it's it's yeah they have like Clorox wipes and the thing is that the queen was down at that point right that that the queen was not active reactivated until they went back into the chamber.
- 36:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah so actually why did they even include that part?
- 36:14SPEAKER_02: Did they just go oh you know what yo how did we clean up that corridor all right throw in a scene where somebody goes how did it happen and then we'll move on it's that's like it's the only logical example where they they needed to film a scene.
- 36:29SPEAKER_03: You're right Rich they that's exactly what happened they needed to film a scene they realized wait a minute tech technically like three three or four people just got diced up in here like 30 minutes ago there should be a little bit of a mess.
- 36:41SPEAKER_02: We don't got time for that let's just someone say we're all the potties somehow Palpatine returned all right do you think that we're supposed to believe that the zombies took them and ate them yeah I think that was that like you should be scared like they kind of scooped up everything and saved it for later no there'd be blood there'd be some Detrius left many years they literally don't care that's the problem with like this this JW Anderson whatever alive I don't know what his name is Chronicles and Narnia guy uh C.W.
- 37:16SPEAKER_01: Lewis I don't know he just doesn't care he didn't care at that point it was just like whatever it was one of the zombie janitors that went through he was dragging a mop with him one thing that I was like laughing at like it's rare that I watch a scary movie and even I'm not scared and find it funny.
- 37:38SPEAKER_01: That's like usually I'm very easily frightened but one thing that I was laughing at while watching it was like that the AI is the owner's daughter like why did he make it his creepy little daughter like there was no explanation there.
- 37:54SPEAKER_02: It was just like this AI modeled after the CEO's daughter like why why would you make your AI I think imagine if at our job it was like Luke's child that was like the AI I think you end up I think there ends up being oh god is there an explanation I can't remember if it's the movies or the game that explains to you why because I think there is some sort of connection where I think you do kind of get a little bit of backstory on the guy who created the T virus and um oh okay oh you know what I watched Resident Evil the TV series that came out a couple years ago.
- 38:33SPEAKER_02: Oh the Netflix one the Netflix one it's like an eight episode thing and I think you find out more there.
- 38:40SPEAKER_02: That's a really good if you if anyone's watching listen to us right now and you're like wow you guys are panning this movie go watch that Resident Evil series it's kind of set in Raccoon City but it's a little separate and you're not insulted by the fact that it doesn't have you know everything from the game because it from the outset kind of tells you this is going to be something a little bit different but part of the universe and you get a little bit of lore so I think it's fun.
- 39:05SPEAKER_01: I was insulted that Raccoon City didn't have any raccoons.
- 39:08SPEAKER_01: Where are they?
- 39:09SPEAKER_01: There ain't no raccoons in the I didn't see a single zombie raccoon in that end scene.
- 39:13SPEAKER_03: That would have been a good one.
- 39:14SPEAKER_00: Or that raccoon city just wasn't a thing until like the end.
- 39:18SPEAKER_03: I literally just looked something up oh speaking of other Resident Evil titles that you could consume and enjoy maybe consume is the wrong word when you're talking about a zombie movie but the the new Resident Evil movie that came out that's currently in theaters has a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes.
- 39:34SPEAKER_03: It is being it is beloved by pretty much all critics.
- 39:38SPEAKER_03: It's it's apparently a very good movie and while it's a different story than you would have in the games like there's no Leon, there's no Jill and it does take place in modern day the actual play by play of the movie does feel a lot more like a Resident Evil type game.
- 39:55SPEAKER_03: There's like an underground that one looks scary.
- 39:58SPEAKER_00: It does look scary that one looks scary like the I I mean I'm pretty sure it's probably going closer to the vibe of like maybe the newer games rather than the older games with Leon and Jill where the newer games is with somebody named Ethan Winters I believe.
- 40:17SPEAKER_00: So I can see that they're probably leaning from an inspiration closer to that than the older games.
- 40:24SPEAKER_03: Probably yeah the premise is basically he's like an Uber Eats guy that happens to be delivering food when the outbreak happens and he's just running for his life while trying to deliver food I guess and then he stops trying to deliver the food from I would assume yeah I haven't actually seen it.
- 40:45SPEAKER_02: He's like you're gonna get this food I'm gonna make you're gonna that's the whole point of the movie he's like trying to make it I'd love to watch a zombie movie where a guy's trying to return a movie to Blockbuster but like obviously the zombies are coming but he's still he's like I got I gotta put it in that drop box before midnight or I'm gonna get charged.
- 41:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 41:10SPEAKER_00: Amazing it's like that Shawn of the Dead zombie movie where they're like trying to make it to the bar.
- 41:15SPEAKER_00: The Winchester that's the best.
- 41:19SPEAKER_03: I will say that I think what I enjoyed about this movie is that it's just dumb fun.
- 41:25SPEAKER_03: You know like if you just sit back and kind of enjoy it it feels like something you would have picked up at Blockbuster.
- 41:32SPEAKER_03: You know it feels like one of those movies.
- 41:34SPEAKER_03: And that kind of doesn't you don't get a lot of that these days I guess unless it's like on purpose.
- 41:41SPEAKER_03: You know like unless it's like purposely bad kind of like a cocaine bear sort of deal.
- 41:45SPEAKER_02: I loved cocaine bear if it was just called like neighbor malice maybe I I like the movie completely I'm like oh neighbor malice that was a great movie you know zombie a Jace whatever you know zom you know neighbor malice but when you call it Resident Evil I think you bring upon you a pedigree and an expectation and the fact that none of the the further in the series I do believe that he tries to bring in like some of the characters from the games but it's like too little too late bro.
- 42:15SPEAKER_02: I'm being very negative.
- 42:16SPEAKER_00: Like the nemesis yeah I don't know what to do about that.
- 42:18SPEAKER_02: I keep being very negative I apologize to everyone I'm looking for something.
- 42:23SPEAKER_03: But um you know what is really quite upsetting to me and I feel like this is pro I don't know if I'm alone with this one.
- 42:31SPEAKER_03: This movie has such a memorable music cue.
- 42:35SPEAKER_03: Like I remembered it from when I was a child.
- 42:38SPEAKER_03: Like I could it's one of those music cues it's not a sprawling like John Williams Jurassic Park but the intro to this movie and two other times throughout it there's this the main title theme for like the Umbrella Corporation that is just so catchy and I don't know if they ever use it again in future films.
- 43:03SPEAKER_03: I remember being very disappointed that the second and third movie did not use the that starts the movie.
- 43:14SPEAKER_00: It's just so creepy and synthetic and just like you get the loud bass in the back of the the very synth it's such a cool theme and I miss I feel like I I feel like it's very similar to like other action movies of the time like I feel like it's a theme that I would hear in the intro of like a born identity movie.
- 43:37SPEAKER_02: Probably I but for me it it's always been one of those like instantly iconic it makes me think of when I was a kid almost it's one of those but I did like it listening to you listening to you guys talk about things you like about this movie is like watching weekend at Bernie's two people carrying around a carcass trying to make it look alive or Right.
- 44:00SPEAKER_03: Listen, I genuinely think that is a really good theme.
- 44:03SPEAKER_03: And I'm really disappoint I think it's probably one of the mo the best abandoned movie themes ever.
- 44:09SPEAKER_03: Go back and listen to the the just the beginning of that movie.
- 44:13SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 44:14SPEAKER_03: It is golden.
- 44:15SPEAKER_03: That is such a great spooky theme.
- 44:18SPEAKER_03: Because it almost has like the Halloween vibes or the Oh, okay, okay.
- 44:23SPEAKER_03: If if that's the one.
- 44:24SPEAKER_00: Rich is gonna put it on his Halloween mix.
- 44:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 44:27SPEAKER_03: Well, no, I don't mean like Halloween like the holiday, but like the movie, you know, like you can but in a more synth tone.
- 44:36SPEAKER_03: I don't know, it's like it's really creepy and cool.
- 44:38SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 44:39SPEAKER_03: But yeah, that's that's probably my favorite thing about this movie.
- 44:42SPEAKER_03: And my least favorite thing about the franchise is that they just drop it.
- 44:45SPEAKER_03: It's as if like they introduce the Empire theme in Empire Strikes Back and just never use it again.
- 44:53SPEAKER_03: It's that for me.
- 44:55SPEAKER_02: That's a fair point.
- 44:55SPEAKER_02: No, it it I could see where that part's kind of good, but you know.
- 44:59unknown: Yeah.
- 44:59SPEAKER_02: It's like spring for breeze on a pile of fecal matter, still still fecal matter.
- 45:04SPEAKER_01: My favorite thing was probably when that guy got cubed.
- 45:08SPEAKER_01: And my second favorite thing is that Mila, whatever her name is really hot.
- 45:13SPEAKER_01: Those are my two favorites.
- 45:14SPEAKER_03: Was there any other way to get out of the umbrella hive than that train?
- 45:19SPEAKER_03: Like, was that the only way out of that that facility?
- 45:22SPEAKER_01: Did they take a train in?
- 45:23SPEAKER_03: Does everybody take that train in every morning?
- 45:26SPEAKER_03: It's a very small train.
- 45:27SPEAKER_01: That's a really good point.
- 45:29SPEAKER_01: I liked the bag of poles.
- 45:32SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 45:33SPEAKER_03: In the train, there's a very convenient hanging bag of EMT poles.
- 45:38SPEAKER_03: Or yeah, EMT pipes.
- 45:40SPEAKER_01: Like, why would you ever store them that way?
- 45:42SPEAKER_03: It's in an it's a terrible as an artist as a construction worker, I can tell you that's a terrible and not OSHA-friendly way to store pipe.
- 45:50SPEAKER_02: I I will say that there is a scene in one of the games where there's like a ridiculous fight on a train or like an airplane or something, like something where like you're in a hangar type thing like that, and it gets a little kind of crazy, and they do have ridiculous things hanging about.
- 46:05SPEAKER_02: So that made me chuckle a little bit, actually.
- 46:07SPEAKER_02: I was like, oh, it's uh like that's like it's like in uh what is it, The Last of Us where my my biggest complaint when I played that game, I was like, why are there ladders and planks everywhere?
- 46:19SPEAKER_02: I'm like, what would they do without these planks?
- 46:21SPEAKER_02: Because like, you know, what's her name?
- 46:23SPEAKER_02: Can't swim, so you she needs all these planks to get around.
- 46:26SPEAKER_02: And uh I just it it's one of those it's actually a video game trope to me where like something is so ridiculous that it stands out very much to you.
- 46:36SPEAKER_02: Like the Wolverine game.
- 46:37SPEAKER_00: Kind of like all the random white paint that's everywhere in that game.
- 46:40SPEAKER_03: Oh, yes.
- 46:41SPEAKER_03: The uh how about it like in Uncharted, the the yellow bricks that you knew were like the hand holes.
- 46:48SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah.
- 46:49SPEAKER_03: Good times, good times.
- 46:51SPEAKER_03: I love video games.
- 46:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's hard too.
- 46:52SPEAKER_00: It's hard by one.
- 46:59SPEAKER_00: I guess you could say like inspired.
- 47:01SPEAKER_00: Like that that's the Resident Evil in this only lives in inspiration.
- 47:06SPEAKER_03: No, I believe that they do bring Resident Evil game characters into the series later.
- 47:13SPEAKER_03: Am I misremembering?
- 47:14SPEAKER_03: I think there is a Leon and a Jill later in this series.
- 47:17SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 47:22SPEAKER_01: I mean, I just kind of felt like it was uh stupid fun, you know, just like stupid but entertaining.
- 47:28SPEAKER_03: Alright.
- 47:28SPEAKER_03: Bye, Jen.
- 47:29SPEAKER_03: Bye.
- 47:30SPEAKER_03: Bye, baby.
- 47:31SPEAKER_00: I agree with Stellan.
- 47:32SPEAKER_00: The I mean the movie, like I I I agree with Dakota.
- 47:35SPEAKER_00: It is kind of like a good, I mean, it's like fun kind of thing to watch.
- 47:41SPEAKER_00: It's something that you could throw in the background, like as background noise, and enjoy it at the same time.
- 47:47SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's definitely what I kind of did.
- 47:49SPEAKER_00: Like, I watched it, but I also was like playing World of Warcraft like while watching it.
- 47:54SPEAKER_00: But it's definitely not a good like video game adaptation.
- 47:58SPEAKER_00: I mean, we we've covered adaptations before, like we you know, we talked about the Mulan one a while back, and while the movie itself was like I enjoyed it as a Mulan adaptation, not good.
- 48:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and you know, and the thing is like he made the Mortal Kombat movies, but those movies had like a little less narrative structure to them, and they were basically just kind of like cool fighting games with finishing moves, right?
- 48:22SPEAKER_02: So I feel like he could he really had a sandbox to play in there.
- 48:25SPEAKER_02: But I feel that the mistake that was made here, and he did try to correct it.
- 48:31SPEAKER_02: I mean, like later on in the franchise, they do bring in Jill Valentine and Apocalypse Afterlife and Retribution, and Allie Larder comes in and Extinction and Afterlife is Clara Redfield.
- 48:42SPEAKER_02: They kind of like try to push them in, but the issue is that Mila is still Alice is still the main character, and it does center around her, and that's not how the franchise worked before.
- 48:55SPEAKER_02: So that you know they end up and I do I haven't seen I don't think I've seen it, but they have a Resident Evil Welcome to Raccoon City that's by a you know completely different director, but that came back uh that was in 2021, and that one tries to actually follow the two movies, the two first games.
- 49:13SPEAKER_02: So maybe one day we even take a peek at that one and kind of see because I just I don't know.
- 49:18SPEAKER_02: I know I'm I'm normally like I normally like to just watch something you know that's on screen, and a lot of times I just get so happy that the concept is there that I don't complain too much about stuff, but I don't know what it is about this franchise that I had my hopes so high for this and I just felt disappointed.
- 49:37SPEAKER_02: And you know what the problem is is also in 2002 there was no like prior knowledge.
- 49:43SPEAKER_02: I don't remember walking into the theater thinking this is not going to be like the game.
- 49:48SPEAKER_02: Like I, you know, the internet was around, but you know, you weren't really on it all the time and reading stuff like that, so you kind of just saw a cool trailer and you're like, alright, I'm gonna go see that.
- 50:00SPEAKER_02: And I thought that we would see what we were gonna, you know, expecting to see.
- 50:04SPEAKER_02: So, and even as a standalone movie, I think it's very blah.
- 50:08SPEAKER_02: I don't think it stands out at all.
- 50:11SPEAKER_02: I guess I'd watch it on TBS absent-mindedly on a rainy day Saturday, if it had a different name, just leave it on in the background like Anthony was saying.
- 50:21SPEAKER_02: But as like a sit-down, I'm excited to watch this, absolutely not.
- 50:25SPEAKER_02: Do not recommend zero out of ten.
- 50:26unknown: Wow.
- 50:27SPEAKER_02: Dakota.
- 50:28SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 50:28SPEAKER_03: I will say it is definitely on the low end of my MCU ranking.
- 50:33SPEAKER_02: Thank you for bringing joy back into my life.
- 50:36SPEAKER_03: I'll bring a little bit more joy into your life.
- 50:38SPEAKER_03: I will say that it was particularly juicy, and not always in the best ways.
- 50:42SPEAKER_03: But there was that one moment where that guy got cubed and his eyes were quite juicy in that moment, like egg whites, like Jen said.
- 50:51SPEAKER_03: But um, there's a better juice out there.
- 50:53SPEAKER_03: There's definitely better juice out there, and quite uh, you know, kind of like you guys.
- 50:58SPEAKER_03: You guys bring the juice every time you uh give our podcast a five-star juicy review.
- 51:04SPEAKER_03: And we thank you for that, folks.
- 51:07SPEAKER_03: Next week we are covering lanterns.
- 51:10SPEAKER_02: Wait, you know who also brings the juice?
- 51:12SPEAKER_03: Tell me.
- 51:13SPEAKER_02: Or the official unofficial beer of our podcast, Voodoo Ranger Juicy IPA.
- 51:17SPEAKER_02: Officially unofficial.
- 51:19SPEAKER_03: How could I forget?
- 51:20SPEAKER_03: How could I forget?
- 51:21SPEAKER_03: Guys, thank you so much for listening to us here for episode 180 of Project Geekology.
- 51:26SPEAKER_03: Get out of Raccoon City before they bomb it, before they just obliterate it.
- 51:31SPEAKER_03: And yeah, we're gonna be talking about lanterns next week.
- 51:35SPEAKER_03: Get out of Rushville.
- 51:37SPEAKER_03: Don't go to Rushville in 2016.
- 51:39SPEAKER_03: Bad time.
- 51:40SPEAKER_03: We will be talking all about that HBO series that is TVMA, actually.
- 51:47SPEAKER_03: It's a it's a it's a mature show.
- 51:49SPEAKER_03: But yeah, looking forward to it.
- 51:51SPEAKER_03: See you guys next week.
- 51:52SPEAKER_00: Bye on.
- 51:53SPEAKER_03: Bye.
