- 1:45the Petrie Family, the family that took time to bring you a good wine,
- 1:48invite you to listen to the story on the Eloquent Corpse, another exciting
- 1:53adventure from the Case Book of gregory Hood. But before we get started.
- 1:57I'd like to tell you about one swell dessert fruit with Petrie California Muscatel wine.
- 2:02It's really wonderful, so easy to fix. Just put chill fruits in
- 2:07a dish and pour chilled Petrie Muscatel wine over them. That's all there is
- 2:10to it, and is it good. You just couldn't ask for anything better
- 2:15than Petri Muscatel with chilled fruits. Just be sure you get Petri Muscatel.
- 2:21Petri Muscatel is such a fine wine, beautifully golden in color, with a
- 2:25marvelous, full, rich flavor. Believe me, Petri Muscatel is really good
- 2:30and you can serve that Petrie Muscatel, probably because those five letters P,
- 2:35E, t R I spell the proudest name in the long history of fine
- 2:39wine, Petrie. Once again, it's Monday night in San Francisco, in
- 3:01time to hear another chapter from the casebook of that celebrated importer and man about
- 3:06town, Gregory Hood. Tonight's story begins in a small and shoddy waterfront bar
- 3:10in San Francisco, a bar affectionately referred to by its regular customers as Bottleneck
- 3:16Bill. The barkeeper, a gentleman by the name of Bill stands talking to
- 3:21his only patron, a small, softly spoken man who sits on a bus
- 3:24to love. I'd been okay, Bill, Yeah, let's know. That's
- 3:30something I want to show you. Go ahead, the place is empty.
- 3:35Get a load of goose. Ever see trains like that? Hey? What
- 3:39kind of crazy more is that? Well? Schooly shapes with funny letters on
- 3:44them, That's what I want to find out. I took him to a
- 3:49hot shop on market. But the guy like the kind of funny someway scream.
- 3:53I get a hunch there, worth, big dough. Where'd you get
- 3:57him? Now? You know better than curious? Like that deal? Okay,
- 4:01so they're hot. You know I don't handle that kind of stuff.
- 4:04Take it easy. I'm not asking you to handle it. And why did
- 4:09you come to me? Because you know people I do, people that can
- 4:13be useful. They boil Bill, and I'll cut you in. What's the
- 4:16deal? You're that guy, Gregory Hood? Don't you sure? I don't
- 4:20here? Every once in a while, all this old fashioned, hearty,
- 4:24crafty stuff is his racket. He'd know what it's worth. Do they kill
- 4:29fence for you? You're crazy? He's strictly on the level. All I
- 4:31want from him is information. You want me to take this stuff to him?
- 4:35Uh, he's still a rat. He might call in the cops.
- 4:41This stuff's red hot, bill and it's live with the top like dynamite.
- 4:44I gotta address this up a little. They say this hood guy is a
- 4:47sucker for dames. I figured we might send my Sonoma. Wait a minute,
- 4:55Lardie Normos my girl. Sure, sure she is. But all I'm
- 4:59asking to do is, oh, see this hood guy and I got the
- 5:01whole thing doped out. Now here's what we're gonna do again. And I
- 5:05bet he falls for it. How do you do? Say? What?
- 5:18Sit down? Won't you do? You like a cigarette? No? Thank
- 5:21you, mister hood. I've come to you because I'm told you're the one
- 5:27person who can help them. Father, my best. What's the trouble?
- 5:29Well, I received the package super mail today. This Collin was inside it.
- 5:32I'm gonna look at him. Thank you. I could see it was
- 5:36old and probably valuable, so I brought it to you. I'll say it's
- 5:41valuable. This is a perfect specimen of sixteenth century Corean money. There's no
- 5:45mistaking it. Oh, if you want to sell us, miss hey,
- 5:46what I'd be very happy to buy. Well, that isn't exactly why I
- 5:50came here, miss the Hood. I want you to help me get hold
- 5:54of the rest of them. Rest do you mean you have a collection of
- 5:58these coins? Leave this note as the Hood. I think it will explain
- 6:01everything it can attackic this morning. If you want the rest of the collection,
- 6:06comes to bottlenecked Bill, And that's for Larry, mister Hood. I'm
- 6:11afraid to go there. It sounds like some sort of Let me get a
- 6:14couple of things straight. Had you ever heard of this collection of coins before?
- 6:17Never? And I don't know anyone named Larry's. Well, if it's
- 6:21a track whibited with a valuable coin like this, I don't get it that.
- 6:26I'm mighty curious. Then perhaps you'll keep that date for you, because
- 6:30hey, where I can hardly wait? Hi? Greg? Hello Bill?
- 6:47What have a glass of sherry? Please? Okay you haven't been arrived lately,
- 6:51Greg, No, that's new mighty little as Phil. Yeah, you
- 7:02know a guy named Larry Larry? Oh yeah, yeah, he sit on
- 7:08my booth over there, so I was expecting someone, Oh he was a
- 7:12dame or he would be disappointed. How well do you know to Guary.
- 7:15Bill, Well, you know we're around here during a couple of times.
- 7:19That's all I think. He's okay, I'd say so. Seems to probably
- 7:25a jack talks school. Not necessarily the hallmarks for good citizens, much obliged,
- 7:30Bill. Yeah, you're welcome, Greg. Larry. Yeah, I
- 7:41know I'm a poor substitute for normal, but I'm keeping her appointment. No,
- 7:44my hey, would what do you know about her? Recognize this coin?
- 7:49Why the name's Hood, Gregory Hood? Why did no go to you?
- 7:55Mainly because I'm in the importing business. I guess she wanted to know
- 7:58if the coin was valuable? Is this certainly is? I'm curious to see
- 8:01the rest of the collection? Okay, and she'd acting for Norma. I'll
- 8:05show it to you. How about come up to my hotel before I do
- 8:09that, Larry, I had like a little more dope on this steel.
- 8:11Norma said she'd never heard of you or the coin. What's the tie in?
- 8:16Well, you see your peal of mine at a crush on Norma.
- 8:18His name doesn't matter because he's dead now. So when he knew he was
- 8:24dying, he gave me the collection, picked it up and shining. He
- 8:28told me to track down Norma and give it to her. What was the
- 8:31idea of sending just one of the coins. Well, he wanted me to
- 8:33check up on her if she wasn't hitched up to some other guy. Then
- 8:37he wanted her to have the whole collection. And you figured that one of
- 8:41the coins would intrigue her, she'd keep the data and you'd be able to
- 8:43do your checking up. Huh here, that's it, and stood instead of
- 8:48what you scared her and she sent me. And I'm afraid I can't send
- 8:50you a thing about her private wife. I can wait. Why don't we
- 8:52go up to our hotel. You're an expert. I'd like to get your
- 8:58opinion on the set. Oh, Larry, this is one of the finest
- 9:11collections of ancient coins. I have a laid eyes on. Indeed, look
- 9:16here this copper coin with a square hole in the middle. That's the end
- 9:18thing period. This goul Tenny's English Henry the Third. Yes, my friend
- 9:24Norma would be a wealthy girl if she ever inherited these. That's the way
- 9:26my pal wanted it. Eh too, baby died. It's too bad he
- 9:31never lived. I don't get you, mister. I'm planning for a sucker
- 9:35any longer, Larry. I spotted this gag half an hour ago. I
- 9:37was stringing along with it because I was curious. I still don't get you.
- 9:41Listen, Larry, you read too many who'd done us. I noticed
- 9:43your very complete collection of mystery fiction when I first came in. They've over
- 9:48developed your imagination. I never heard such a corny plot as the one you
- 9:52dreamed up to get me here? What would my motive be for lying?
- 9:54Not desa. You've got stolen goods. You don't know what they're worth them
- 9:58Before you go to a fence, you want to get an ext it's appraisal,
- 10:00so you dream up the idea of a girl as decoy and going to
- 10:03the whole wacky routine. You're a smart man, thank you. You don't
- 10:07have to be smart to figure this one out, my friend. As a
- 10:11matter of fact, I'm insulted that you thought I'd fall for it. Are
- 10:13you also smart enough to keep your mouth shut? You know I could make
- 10:18it well with your wildhood. Next moves bribery. Huh. Then comes coercion.
- 10:24I'm sure no, Larry, no dice. I turned crook. I
- 10:30go into the big time, and you're not leaving here. Oh, you
- 10:31want to play rough? So I read too many big Pictus stories, do
- 10:46I? Mister Gregory Hood, we'll see about that. Hello, any room
- 10:52to twelve? Thanks missus, Larry Ah in my room? Don't you right
- 10:58away? Ah? Don't bring Louis Rigger and don't ask questions. They got
- 11:03work to do. Yeah, yeah, I got someone here I want to
- 11:09get rid of. What is he learny? I got the name of Gregory
- 11:22Hood? Why'd you let him have it? He spotted my gig? You
- 11:24know the coueens are hut he turns in. Why don't we finish him off?
- 11:28No? I don't need to get mixed up in a murder of that.
- 11:31Think what are you gonna do with him? Get him down the fire
- 11:35escape and into your car and drive him out onto the prestidio and let him
- 11:39sleep it off. And he wakes up and brings the cops straight here.
- 11:41That's ass and I'm the boss. Think what I say? Goes and Louis
- 11:46and me help you in a snatch or we stand and go on the spot
- 11:48with it. This guy slaps of cops on us. Do come straight here
- 11:52as soon as we got him out of here? On checking out and leaving
- 11:54town. Eh, how about Louis and me? Suppose we don't want to
- 11:58blow town. Maybe you're thinking are gone by yourself and taking the grab with
- 12:03you, You losy double cross. That was your plan? Crazy? Hey?
- 12:09What are you putting those gloves off? I'm gonna finish this guy off.
- 12:13I don't want to leave no fingerprints. I'll give him a couple of
- 12:16jads with his knife. You don't fail nothing. I don't be a dope.
- 12:20Give me that knife. Yeah, try and get his give Oh,
- 12:24say here it is you always like to give ors. Let's see how you
- 12:35can give him with a knife in your bulley. Give me two twelve.
- 12:41Yeah, hello, Louis, this is Hank. Well, come in Larry's
- 12:46room, come right up with you. I don't I don't think the boss
- 12:52is feeling so good there you Hank? Why did you slice him for it?
- 13:05Yeah? He's gonn Louise, he us to take a lap. You
- 13:11ain't dead, Yeah, help me put these gloves on mine. On the
- 13:13other stiff head though, No, no, no, I relate him out
- 13:18with a black jack. He's only unconsciousness. Why are you putting your gloves
- 13:22on him? Now? Look, you won't get it, Louis. But
- 13:24I figured out a very neat frame for Larry's mordenesy. I put my gloves
- 13:31on his hood guy. We scram I put in a call to the cops.
- 13:35When they come here, what did he find? I can get that.
- 13:39They find Larry dead with a knife in him, and they find this
- 13:43guy wearing your gloves. There are no prints on a knighte. So what
- 13:48did he say? You say, this Gregory hood guy has knocked him off
- 13:54arm in the clear? Yeah, eh, yeah, gee, Hank,
- 13:58that's sure you want me all blow down with them coins. Look alerd he's
- 14:07drawing someone on the floor and running ink. Must have stow on a table
- 14:11tipto. Hey, it's an arrow and it's pointing right at greg the hood.
- 14:20Well, thanks, Larry help And they put the finger on the wrong
- 14:24guy, the importers. This is Henderson Taylor, is greg Dan mister,
- 14:39and I'm worried about him. I was going to call you, what's wrong
- 14:43with man? We went out of the office just after lunch. He said,
- 14:45don't want to be going half an hour. He had very important appointments.
- 14:48Everybody hasn't been well. I've known him to switch plans, but it
- 14:52always keeps in touch. You say, where he was going bottle neck Bill
- 14:58bottle mcbill's, Oh yes, I know that that's a tough hangout. Thank
- 15:03you, miss Fairest right away. It looks like one case of Gregory hood
- 15:07is that I may have to solve. While we're waiting for sanity to catch
- 15:22up with Gregory hood. I'd like to make a suggestion. It's simply this.
- 15:26Whenever you're having any kind of peach dessert, be sure Petrie California musk
- 15:31Tell wine is on the table too, like with peach cake, peach cookies,
- 15:35peach short cake, or even if you're serving a delicious dish of chill
- 15:39canned peaches. Believe me, Petrie musket Tell with peaches makes up perfect combination.
- 15:46That Petrie musket Tell is such a wonderful wine, so clear, so
- 15:50rich and fragrant, that it's just made for peaches. And in nearly every
- 15:54locality your Petre wine dealer can give you a little recipe folders showing you how
- 15:58to make unusual and delightful SERTs with peaches to serve with Patrie Muscatel. But
- 16:03be sure you get Patrie Musktel and our good why And now back to the
- 16:12case book of Gregory hood and the Adventure of the Eloquent Course. As we
- 16:18rejoin our story, Sanderson Taylor at Greg's Brandon Attorney, is cross questioning Bill,
- 16:22the owner of the bar known as Boss. That's all I can tell
- 16:27you, mister Taylor. Greg goes out with this guy about two thirty.
- 16:30Uh huh. You don't know anything about the man except that his name was
- 16:33Lara and Rag. He'sn't even then here a couple of times. You don't
- 16:36know where he lives. No, but come to think of it, I'll
- 16:40tell you who might be able to give it it though? For you?
- 16:41Who's that Dotty Bronson? Clary was in here with her the first time?
- 16:45He can win? See you know her a dress? Yes, we do.
- 16:48Let's see one seventeen DeMar that's right off market, uh denmar Doddy Bronson?
- 16:55Them? Well, thank you Bill? How much ablig miss Johnson?
- 17:08Yeah, I'm a friend of Larry's. I ain't nothing wrong with Larius.
- 17:12Sir, Well, I don't think so. I come in sure, sure,
- 17:18come in missus. You say you're a friend of Larry's. I ain't
- 17:22never seen you before, and you don't look like his type. Well,
- 17:25I'm not exactly his friend, Miss Johnson. Then why did you say you
- 17:27were? What are you a dick? No, no, Miss Bonson,
- 17:30I'm an attorney and I'm looking for a friend of mine who was last seeing
- 17:33to Larry about two thirty this afternoon. Yeah, how were they bode let
- 17:37Bill's bars? They left it together. My friend hasn't been heard from m
- 17:41since, and I'm worried about it. I'm worried about Larry's We had a
- 17:45date of four and he didn't show up. Tota his hotel room. Didn't
- 17:48get an answer for a while. Quarter of an hour ago. I got
- 17:51a man talking. So I'm like a dick to me, and I'm scared,
- 17:53So am I. If you give me Larry's address, I'll go over
- 17:56there. I know I can trust you. Oh my dear lady, I
- 18:00guess you're okay. Do be as I go over with you? So the
- 18:06cops know me. I want to watch out. Hi, Larry, But
- 18:10you call me since you get there, certainly, and don't you wear miss
- 18:12Boson, And I'm sure there's nothing worse. Yeah, you ain't worried anymore
- 18:17than I am. Both jittering because of the chill in the air this time
- 18:19of year. Okay, mister, I'll be waiting for that call. Ah,
- 18:37Mister Taylor, I was wondering when you've got Mo Sargeant Boughton's homicide squad
- 18:42doing you plenty and were lousy with clothes or even marked out on the floor
- 18:47for us at times? Coming mister Greg here. Yeah, but he's still
- 18:53lapping, mister Taylor, and the police surgeon's working them over. Surgeon,
- 18:56I thank you anything, mister Taylor. He's okay. Who's on the kid,
- 19:00Lieutenant Silvers, Yes, it's a good thing. I am. Greg's
- 19:03in a jam. But what's happened to him? He's out cold, slugged
- 19:06with a black jack, but he's gonna be okay. What happened? Lieutenant?
- 19:08I'm not sure yet until Greg can start to talk. But you can
- 19:12take a look for yourself. That dead body on the floor with a knife
- 19:17in his belly. He checked his identification, Larry Matterson, you lived here.
- 19:22Gregg's dying to seven? How is your doctor? He's coming to His
- 19:27lips are beginning to move. What he How do you feel, Gregg?
- 19:33As if I dived headfirst into an empty swimming pool. So I got a
- 19:37good heart skull right. Glad to see you out, Sandy, Old Blenham
- 19:42has your trailed me out, he Greg, let me give you a hand.
- 19:48Lieutenant Silvers and Sergeant Barton too. This all homework. Let's share your
- 19:53story, Hud. You mean who slugged me with a guy? Na Larry?
- 19:57And if you look behind you you'll see the body of the man in
- 20:00question, neatly stabbed through the belly, Hobby Smart. But you were unconscious,
- 20:04Greg. Somebody must have come in here and stabbed him. Faith would
- 20:07I get these gloves? I wasn't worrying them when I came in here.
- 20:10Somebody must have slipped them on you after you passed out. There's another puzzle,
- 20:14Greg, Huh one of these diagrams in ink on the floor. Had
- 20:17noticed the red ink on the dead man's finger? Yes, the s with
- 20:21the lines through it, But that's a dollar sign. Mary's made an arrow,
- 20:26an arrow that was pointing at exactly where you were lying, Greg.
- 20:30Yeah, but the arrow also points to this other drawing pretty cruder. It
- 20:33looked like a lighted pipe. Obviously, the dead man is trying to leave
- 20:37a message, the clue to his murderer's identity. Oh maybe so, Greg,
- 20:41I haven't much faith in those kinds of things. Well, Attendant,
- 20:44you can be sure that dying man didn't do that dudeling just to amuse himself.
- 20:47Dan, how did you hear the murder? Well, he got an
- 20:48anonymous phone call telling him to come up here and we'd find a body,
- 20:52and I think I see it. The killer thought he'd framed me by putting
- 20:53these gloves on me, knowing in a smart murder he was his gloves.
- 20:56They'd put him the call for you, figuring he'd walk in mad me.
- 21:00Well, it's possible, but I've got to look at facts. Greg.
- 21:03That arrow was pointing straight at you. Oh, Lieutenant, you can't suspect
- 21:07great. I can suspect anyone in my business. You never know what a
- 21:11man might do. And he's corner Dad. You have a nasty, suspicious
- 21:14mind, and I'm gonna pull it to you. The dead man was a
- 21:15who Done It? Fan? Yes, I noticed those mystery books on his
- 21:19table over there. Therefore he knew about dying message gags. He tried to
- 21:23leave one by drawing those ink stains on the floor. After he died,
- 21:26the killer spotted the message and put his gloves on me. The gloves he
- 21:30warned when he stabbed Larry, he planned to pin the rap on me.
- 21:33Prove it to me, Greg, that's aught, I asked, So you've
- 21:36got to prove it. Great to get yourself on the clean ooh go wait
- 21:41a minute, a dollar sign, an arrow and the pipe you know could
- 21:47be I've got it. Who is it? Greg? Get me a list
- 21:48of the dead man's friends, guys that were close to when I got that.
- 21:51I think I can point out the killer listener's friend. Yeah, okay,
- 21:55but that's going to take time. I think I can speak things up
- 21:57a little, Lieutenant. I attacked Greg here tonight by talking to Larry's girlfriend,
- 22:00Dotty Bronson. That's gonna call on her. I'll bet you'll be glad
- 22:04to help. Come on, come on, can't get easy, daddy,
- 22:18We got him. Thought they do it? Somebody slice it as sure as
- 22:23this Sure, I'm sure. Talk to the hotel manager and he talked to
- 22:26the doc. Let's just keep my hands on that cash and maybe I can.
- 22:33He'll stick with me. They get the wrapid white House, Larry.
- 22:37You can bet on Gal making gold places, Dotty or smart kid all lay
- 22:41off at Hank Larry ain't even in his catch. Go see who it is
- 22:47this? What do you guys? Want some information? Why Lieutenant Silver is
- 22:56with homicide? U come here to tell me that Larry's rubbed out? I
- 23:02guess Mics Bronson, obviously you know that fact. We come here so that
- 23:06you can help us find a killer. How are you? I know your
- 23:08friend he's the attorney at law who forgets to make phone calls. H Well,
- 23:14I'm tired. Yes, I asked her who you were the name of
- 23:17Hood? I think I was the next to last person to see Larry alive.
- 23:19Ain't that pathetic? Did you bring a copy of his Will? Take
- 23:23It Easy? Daddy? Here to help you? Yeah? Well it can
- 23:27help me. Now I'd like to find out who kill Larry? Wouldn't you
- 23:30sure? What can I do? Listen to mister Hood? Maybe you can
- 23:33help give us the clue to the murder. Sure, I'll poly shut the
- 23:37crystal ball shoot Mitch Hood. What's the sixty four dollars question? A simple
- 23:41one. Give me the names of Larry's closest friend, Phoebe. I only
- 23:45had three so close knee Louis Harden. Who's Louis Harton? Ah? We
- 23:49the dumb lug that wouldn't know which end of a knife was sharp. It
- 23:52is even to be sad on it. They worked with Larry And who's the
- 23:56third friend, miss Bronson? It was me Lieu Tennis and what's your name?
- 24:00Jackson? Her first name, mister Jackson and me. That wouldn't buy
- 24:04any chance called your Hank, would they? Henry? Sure? Everybody caused
- 24:07me, Hank. Why there's your man stand? He killed Larry Mastus?
- 24:11Oh yeah, crazy? So I think I'm quite on the beam considering the
- 24:14crack of my dome a little while ago. What's your alibi, Hank?
- 24:15If I needed one, Doddy here could give it. I was here with
- 24:19you and Marry was bumped off, wasn't that, David? Well? What
- 24:22time was that, Hank? About two fifteen, wasn't it, Dotty?
- 24:26That's an interesting alibi. The best the police surgeon could say it was the
- 24:30guy died somewhere between two and three. We didn't find the dead body until
- 24:34about five thirty, and we haven't released a word about time yet. Yeah.
- 24:37Yeah, who ready with your alibis? I listen, missed. I
- 24:40don't know nothing about it, no, nothing except that you killed him.
- 24:42Yeah, triumph pulled. Sure, I will the glove you planted on me
- 24:45had a slight flaw. There was a hole in the right thumb. There
- 24:48was a thumbprint on the knife, and it wasn't mine, it was yours.
- 24:49We checked it a minute. Fan, I was about that fingerprint,
- 24:53Hank. Which way was a print? Point? And missus schmartcat caught the
- 24:56blade? Sure, but if you have a guy that putted point the other
- 25:00way, only if it were downward blow. This woman was up from under
- 25:03the heart in the best professional stabbing manner, which means that your print was
- 25:07just where it should have been. But there wasn't no holes in those cross
- 25:10anyway. The hour was pointed you. That's enough, Hank. How did
- 25:12you know that? If you weren't there, well, I'd do jerky last.
- 25:17I was lying when I gave that alibi for you. I ain't see
- 25:19you all day, and I hope I never see you again. Oh what
- 25:22do you say, Hank? We've got you every way? Okay, okay,
- 25:29all right, I kill Larry. It's trying to double cross me.
- 25:32He had it coming to him. Take me away cover. I don't like
- 25:37the company. Who'll keep it well? Then well standing I can understand Joe
- 25:56wanting to drink, but really have to come back to bottom build. Well,
- 26:00it came back for two reasons. I wanted to get an asprint and
- 26:03this is where I came in, and I see you. I'd like to
- 26:06run out the cycle. You know, Greg, I still don't understand what
- 26:08that dollar signed. Well, it wasn't the dollar sign standing Well, Asaray,
- 26:12I learned at school you'll make any s and draw to lass. Very
- 26:17true, but it might also be a way to cross out the letter S.
- 26:19The arrow pointed at the shank of the lighted pipe, crossed out the
- 26:22letter S and shank, and you have Hank, the name of the murder.
- 26:25Oh yeah, of course. Another thing puzzled me though, Greg,
- 26:29and how did you have time to check the thumb print on the knife hand?
- 26:33Well, Sandy, there was no thumb print, no, and there
- 26:36was no hole in the glove. I just said those things to scare Hank
- 26:38into a confession. Oh, Greg, you scared the day. That's how
- 26:41to meet today me through Sandy. But don't act man. Well, I
- 26:45am man. You walked into a trap. The trap that was clumsily basy.
- 26:48That's not like you sure, But the faith was juicy anyway, there's
- 26:51no great harm. Oh but there might have been you done, he got
- 26:53killed and then we got framed from murk. All for the sake of the
- 26:56firm standing all, greg don't try and tell me you walk into this,
- 27:00you know the day because you were thinking of it. This is sure.
- 27:00I was who in company could have come out of this mess very nicely,
- 27:03which quite a valuable collection of coins. I'm proud to return them to their
- 27:07owners, very out trueous. We should stop playing cops and Robert. I'm
- 27:12sorry, Sammy, and I'm done. Grateful for your help. That's the
- 27:18same standing promised me one thing. Well, what is it game, don't
- 27:21let's quote this little adventure. After all, I spent half of the case
- 27:25as an unconscious suspect. No saanding, this will be an unpublished chapter from
- 27:29the casebook of Gregory Hood. Well, gleag you got through safely that time,
- 27:48but you're awful lucky masterress and left back clue. Well, yes,
- 27:51sorry, but of course there's always a clue somewhere if you can find it
- 27:53and figure it out. Yeah, they deliver me from figuring out clues and
- 27:57stuff? Is that dollars? Signing up high shank or you could do it
- 28:00and all kidneys. We're sure you could. For instance, suppose you're sitting
- 28:04at a table on the cloth someone has drawn with a pencil, not a
- 28:07dollar sign, but a cent sign. Yeah, and an arrow pointing at
- 28:11an empty wine glass. Ah, like guns, it's about Petrie wine.
- 28:15But what about it? We're easy. An empty wine glass calls for some
- 28:19good wines, isn't it? Yeah? But that sense sign? Look,
- 28:22Harry, if you want good wine, what is it that makes sense?
- 28:27Oh? Brother? Was I slow on that flowing? Not? It does
- 28:32make sense to order Petrie when you want good wines. Petree wine has just
- 28:36got to be good. You see, the Petrie family has been making wine
- 28:40for generations now. The art of making fine wine is a heritage in the
- 28:44Petrie family, passed on down from father to son, from father to son.
- 28:49So just think of all those years of skill and experience that go into
- 28:52making Petrie wine. It's no wonder Petrie wine is so good. And it's
- 28:56no wonder the Petrie business has grown and grown until today the Petrie family is
- 29:02America's largest independent wine maker. Yes, the making of Petrie wine is a
- 29:07family affair, and the Petrie family has every intention of keeping it just that.
- 29:12So you know, the name Petrie on a bottle of wine is more
- 29:15than a trademark. It's the personal assurance of the Petrie family that Petrie Wine
- 29:21is and always will be good wine. The Case Books of Gregory Hood is
- 29:44written by Dennis Green and Anthony Boucher. Original music composed and played by Dean
- 29:48Fossler. Elliot Lewis plays the part of Gregory Hood and Sanderson Taylor is played
- 29:55by Howard mcneer. The Petryline Company of San Francisco, California invite you to

- 30:10of Gregoryhood comes to you from our Hollywood studio. This is Harry Bartel saying
- 30:17good night for the Petrie family for a solid hour of exciting mystery dramas.
- 30:23Listen every Monday on most of these same stations at eight o'clock to Richard Davis
- 30:27Private Investigator, followed immediately by the Casebook of Gregory Hood. This is a
- 30:34mutual broadcasting system. Welcome back. This was a kind of confusing episode.
- 30:41For the first thing, I did not like the intro. It was a
- 30:45little confusing without Gregory Hood there, and then Gregory Hood was there at the
- 30:51end. Though Elliott Lewis probably of the people I've heard here, Gil Gordon
- 30:57and Nagel and Elliott Lewis, Elliott Lewis did the best job at feeding the
- 31:03commercials. And then there was that reference in the middle of the story to
- 31:08not recording the case and I was like, Okay, good thing, this
- 31:11isn't going to end up on the radio preserved for posterity and listen to several
- 31:18decades later. Of course, gives you the idea that well, maybe there
- 31:25was a Gregory Hood book and this was not included in the Gregory Hood Detective
- 31:30series. Well, the confusing thing here is that there was no actual series
- 31:37the Casebook of Gregory hud It was original to radio. It was a bit
- 31:41odd, and overall I prefer the more traditional structure. This one was a
- 31:48how catch him and not necessarily the best. But we'll see if we get
- 31:55a better store next week. All right, Well on to listener comments and
- 32:00feedback, and Justin from Jersey comments on the site. I have to say
- 32:06that I love the Case Book of Gregory Hood. It's a nice detective series,
- 32:09and I enjoy both Gregory and Sandy. Also, thank you for keeping
- 32:14the Petri Wine ads. While I understand they aren't everyone's cup of tea,
- 32:17I like that you kept the ads in as to me, it preserves the
- 32:21show was meant to be heard. Thanks for your inside and your hard work.
- 32:25Well, thanks so much, Justin. I don't always include the ads.
- 32:29There are a few cases where I'll edit something, but in this case,
- 32:34I actually think the ads are somewhat classy the way that they are done
- 32:39in this series. And I've always enjoyed the kind of back and forth and
- 32:45Harry Bartell is just fantastic at being just incredibly personable. But thank you for
- 32:52your comment, and w Vogel says, thank you for the programming. Well,
- 32:58you're welcome, and thank you so much listening. That will do it
- 33:01for today. We will return tomorrow with The Primrose Matter Orts three and four,
- 33:07and then join us back here next Tuesday for the last existing Elliott Lewis
- 33:12episode of the Casebook of Gregory Hood. In the meantime, you can leave
