- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: The Miami Dolphins have won against the Buffalo Bills.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: Coach, Eric,
- 1:32[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't just beat the buffalo bills.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: They kind of dismantle them.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: 30 to 13 in a game that may feel like a statement from a team that could be finding their identity after a really bad loss against the Baltimore Romans.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: For weeks, there are questions about the leadership, the locker room, buy-in, and the direction of this franchise after the trade deadline.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: But on Sunday, these dolphins didn't flinch.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_00]: They believed and they executed.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, listen.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_02]: So when it comes to the way they performed, I think the, this was kind of,
- 2:17[SPEAKER_02]: really reminiscent, at least to me of what we saw two weeks ago in Atlanta, I don't know what happened against Baltimore.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_02]: I kind of felt like they played really well in that first half and they just kind of led a bunch of mistakes pile up and obviously we know in NFL when when you have three or four for those mistakes that pile up, you can face a 17-21-point deficit awfully quickly.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_02]: So I think the 28-6 might have been a little
- 2:47[SPEAKER_02]: against the Ravens at least when you compare the fact that I think you can make the case that there was at least 17 points of a swing in that first half between fumbling inside the 10, the Larry Borham fall start the tripping penalty that was in our early Gordon.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_02]: But look at what this team did, and just the balance offensively was phenomenal.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_02]: It actually felt to me at least offensively very similar to the last time they beat Buffalo in Miami, where they were running the football effectively.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_02]: And to it was really kind of just an effective kind of,
- 3:34[SPEAKER_02]: steady force for them.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, he got hurt in that game, but you know, he came back and he threw the big touchdown pass to Waterland and the touchdown pass up for the middle.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_02]: Again, very similar to kind of what we saw today, but I mean, the story is Devon HN.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to very lead with him.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_02]: One of the
- 3:53[SPEAKER_02]: I think we need to start really talking about him as, you know, one of the better running backs of the dolphins have had in the last 10, 15, 20 years.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_02]: The guy is absolutely special.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, I think people are going to look at like the to a stat line today and assume that he had a so-so game to play the very good game today.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_02]: You look at the situations in which he threw those two picks.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_02]: They were both on third and long.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_02]: They were essentially arm puns, which is the function that they served.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_02]: And if that's going to be kind of the, you know, if you're going to make mistakes, I prefer them to be made out of aggression a hundred times at a hundred.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_02]: So I thought the balance today was really good.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_02]: And we'll get to talking about the defense.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think there's enough good things you can say about the way that they perform today.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_02]: Interested to see what we're all going to have to say about some of the young corners that we saw on display, which I thought was really positive.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_02]: But I think the word today is balance.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_02]: Just all around all three phases, they were really good today.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I don't think we can hear coach on this.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: We just hear him melding some words.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: But we'll like coach and get a handle on this.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: And Eric, it wasn't a perfect game.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: There he is.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: There he is.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what that would.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so I was going to say that, along the same lines there, that I was going to use the word complimentary football.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_03]: Across not only all three phases of the game, right off into defense, special teams,
- 5:32[SPEAKER_03]: but also the individual units within those teams.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not sure that we can look at any position group and say that any position group played bad today.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_03]: Like there was some individual performers that couldn't have worked better, but across all three phases, it felt like every group kind of pulled their own way.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_03]: And you said about the Ravens game last week, I agree completely that it felt like the dolphins played better in the first half than the Ravens last week.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_03]: and then stuff snowballed from there.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_03]: And there were opportunities this week or that to happen.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_03]: And that started from the very beginning of the game when they were flagged for a phantom fall start by Alec Engold.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_03]: And then there was a, you know, you had to take a timeout and it's like, you know, what the hell are we doing already, right?
- 6:18[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, that feeling awful start to the game.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_03]: They were able to rebound to it from that.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_03]: And then Raleigh Patterson missing an extra point, like we're going in the half time.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_03]: It should be a three score game going in the half time of 17 nothing, but you've missed a extra point.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_03]: It's 16 nothing.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I know for me going in a half time kind of felt like the door was still open for Josh Allen to put the cable and come back and then he come out from the second half and start out with two consecutive penalties against it off as there as well.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_03]: When the bad stuff happened to guess the Ravens, they found a way to to work through that even in that long drive in the second half, when they got down to the red zone, right, the defense came up with the interception to close the door there.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_03]: I think that the depth kind of showed up a little bit, you know, I know we've talked about the town on this roster, but we are also in year four of Mike McDaniel, I think that.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_03]: There were times in this game where we're starting to see a little bit of that depth show up, whether it was the tight end room where, you know, we're finding tight ends that fit the system, right?
- 7:28[SPEAKER_03]: Dolcech really fits what they want out of an app of 10 and we saw them playing that role well.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_03]: He and Ruchi did well in that that why position?
- 7:39[SPEAKER_03]: We saw them continue and to go with the heavy offensive personnel and then defensively, you know, kind of feels like defensively they
- 7:47[SPEAKER_03]: two separate visions from what they want out of the starting cornerbacks, just different kind of skill sets, because you know, it was a little bit of surprise that it was jujube once getting the start over Ethan Bonner.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_03]: But you know, I'm going to start talking about that with my buddy.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_03]: And he was saying, you know, maybe it comes down to them wanting a bigger corner on the other side, because Ethan and Jack Jones are both kind of small guy that could open up the door for the bills to just screen them with that.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_03]: So if you put a bigger scene or a bigger corner over there to match up with the key on Coleman, and Juju Brent's had a very good game overall, and you saw the consequences when they had to go to Ethan Bonner, Bonner gave up the long play, I think it was touchdown.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_03]: And then you switched to Jason Marshall, who is again, one of those bigger corners, and I felt like he played, okay, it is snaps as a perimeter corner before Juju came back.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_03]: But again, just going back to the idea
- 8:41[SPEAKER_03]: very complimentary game, not a lot of three phases of the game, but also from each individual unit across those phases.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't a perfect game from at least to a and the offense, but they found their balance and that balance was pretty much the difference.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_00]: Devon A, Cheney and Bradley saw a pretty much setting, you know, once they are a balanced team, a balanced offense and defense, they can win.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: they need to continue to find this balance.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: Eric, you said it, you felt like to a had a great game, even though he was 15 for 21, 2 touched on two picks, less than 200 yards, even with those picks, he led the league and EPA per dropback this Sunday.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_00]: He led the league and EPA per play with a plus point six, and even with those two intersections and a little bit of miscuse,
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: 43% of his throws went for first downs today.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_00]: The highest mark in the NFL this Sunday so far.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: Not only that, when the dolphins are throwing out of jumbo personnel in a big 21 type of personnel with Dan Brunskill and Alec Engle, 22 personnel as well with two running backs, two tight ends, either those two tight ends being dull-sitch and Ruchi or one of them substituting in with Daniel Brunskill, EPA per drop back on that.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: was 1.35, the second most today at Lan to beat that EPA for Play was a 0.09, which was third best today of 8 to 9 teams that ran 21 and 22 personnel.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: In terms of passing, just like that coach where we talked about it, it's a clean pocket for two of most of the time when you have six or maybe even seven blockers and
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: running deep routes that are having cuts or just juking out of defenders that jail and water was able to do it sometimes even in Greg Dalsich.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_00]: That helped a lot, but also for the running game.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: Devon Hain was the engine today, 22 carries 174 yards, two touchdowns,
- 10:54[SPEAKER_00]: 0.39 EPA per play, third best of anywhere in the back this week, 41% success rate and nearly eight yards per carry.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: You've got a running back who's redefining what this offense can do, one of its balance.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: He also has six catches for 51 yards and almost eight yards per reception as well.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I thought the argument was going to, um, no, hey, you know,
- 11:19[SPEAKER_03]: We talked about before about the the jumbo set and getting to a more comfortable in the pocket and you saw that in the targets because one of the things we talked about with that is it you can keep more pass protectors in but you have to be able to trust your guys to win a problem or not not a friend you have to win your one on one matchups as receivers right so there was 21 targets today and 13 of those either went to water or each and seven the water.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_03]: and six to HM, right?
- 11:49[SPEAKER_03]: So I felt like it was a very balanced game.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_03]: They weren't in third and long situations, which is why I think a lot of those completions did turn into first downs, because we're not from second and third in long scenarios.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_03]: We weren't having a lot of early penalties to set the offense back.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_03]: So when you stay in those favorable down and distance, position, you can keep the defense off balance.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_03]: You saw that a lot.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think there was a lot of traditional dropback passing today.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_03]: A lot of it was the play action playing off the run game and, you know, kind of capitalizing on the bill's defense being over aggressive flowing, right?
- 12:28[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, they knew as well as everybody else, the main thing they had to do in this game was to stop Devon HN and make to be the one to beat them.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_03]: And they obviously were not, I mean, they kept them, you know, kind of contained for most of the game.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_03]: those runs were very much set up by allowing the defense to over pursue and taking advantage of it.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_03]: So I just think that again, from a play call perspective, from an execution perspective, just a very consistent game plan in terms of keeping the defense off balance with the play calls, not getting too crazy with it, not saying that we're putting the game on to as shoulders,
- 13:14[SPEAKER_03]: Um, you know, he was very effective with it and, you know, kind of the Eric's point that I agree completely on the, you know, essentially arm punts on the, the interceptions right I would, I would prefer those every time versus you're trying to squeeze into a tight window and, you know, those type of interceptions, you know, if you take those away and you can't take them away and maybe through the interceptions, um, you know, he is completion percentage was really high as usual.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_03]: Another thing that I would say about that, and maybe get kind of ahead of myself here, was that a quarterback that is willing to give up those arm-punt interceptions is not a quarterback that I think feels like his position is on a hot seed in terms of getting Bench.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_03]: I know that's been a topic recently with to a, but you know, if you're being, obviously in, you know, the fans and the media, there's been talk about him possibly being
- 14:09[SPEAKER_03]: Um, I don't feel like if you are in that mindset that you're going to come out and let those throws go knowing that there's, you know, probably, you know, no better than a 50% chance at being completed, um, and the, the idea there is that you're, you're trying to go for either a penalty or an interception, right, and essentially it's pen and back there, indeed.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_03]: So I just felt like for me, just felt like a team overall, including the quarterback,
- 14:38[SPEAKER_03]: just very comfortable with where they are right now.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you, that's very funny you mentioned that because
- 14:44[SPEAKER_00]: uh... that shows a reflection of trust between to a and McDaniel in the pressur today magnetic Daniel uh... told the media that he told to it a ripper on third downs even if the men uh... armplent uh... that type of confident believes into play design and timing trust in the game plan early on all of us when we were watching even the media were like oh those were bad interceptions bad picks
- 15:10[SPEAKER_00]: I guess it was just by design.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_00]: If McDaniel is truthfully saying, it was part of it, and two is saying that we were trusting our guys to get open one on one specifically.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_00]: Jalen Bottle, he said that initially, he saw a single high for like if he sees a look, just go ahead and throw off for it.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I'm going to kind of dispute the notion that those are really bad intersections.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_02]: because I think when you when you take a look at where you are on the field and the down in distance, both of those interceptions occurred on third and long that you were you were passed your own 30 on both of them.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't feel like, I mean, in terms of
- 15:57[SPEAKER_02]: All turnovers are bad to any extent, right?
- 16:00[SPEAKER_02]: But I think when you're calculating like situationally, okay, how much does this actually hurt us?
- 16:06[SPEAKER_02]: How many yards of field position are we losing on this individual play?
- 16:10[SPEAKER_02]: Those types of intersections really hurt you much, much less than turning the ball over in the red zone or what happened.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that, I think to a through those passes knowing the situation.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe not expecting to throw picks, but I think he knew, okay, in this situation, if it is an interception, no harm, no foul, relatively.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_02]: And sure, yeah, you can try to complete, you know, the passing get the first down and, you know, I think that that's kind of always the first idea.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_02]: But if there's nothing there,
- 16:48[SPEAKER_02]: why not see if you can draw the flag.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_02]: And if it gets, and if you, you know, flip the field and Buffalo starts with the ball at their own 20.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, they were going to do that with a punt anyways.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_02]: You know, the other thing that I found really interesting about the game plan was you could tell Buffalo was, and you saw it in the first half that, you know, you mentioned some
- 17:12[SPEAKER_02]: Buffalo really was aggressive in trying to stop Devon HN and I think at least in the first half of my really took advantage of it because that's when you saw the passing game and do most of its damage both of two with passing touchdowns were in that first half the big played a water obviously the throw to Mleek Washington you know it kind of felt like you know the dolphins got that rhythm in the passing game in the first half and then as Buffalo you know
- 17:41[SPEAKER_02]: kind of had to respect that passing game and they couldn't just keep doing that, you know, keep keying in on H and all the time, especially in the second half when, you know, and the defense was keeping off of those defense on the field just about all day and the Treschen wears clothes into that, but you know, in that second half,
- 18:07[SPEAKER_02]: Buffalo really started to kind of feel the run game of my amy wearing down on them.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_02]: And I think the success of the passing game of the first half had a lot to do with that.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_00]: 30 rushes, 21 passes, but the efficiency gap in that is where you see the evolution of dolphins often is completely blue away.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_00]: The bills often in terms of metrics and the dolphins
- 18:34[SPEAKER_00]: And could you set it when you're winning those early downs that we talked about it for the last two seasons when you win those early downs everything opens up take a look at the early down passing point six eight pa for the dolphins and even for two on one of the highest in game marks this season.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_00]: The offense wasn't necessarily chasing perfection.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_00]: It was more so of staying on schedule, staying ahead of the sticks, chasing rhythm.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_00]: And they knew if they could get out to a solid lead early on.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_00]: Buffalo's defense in their linebackers, which struggle with that play action.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_00]: Depth.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_00]: and also the motion flow, especially in the run game where they want it to make it happen and then buffles defense was just gasped midway through the second half.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_00]: Devon Hain had 2.86 yards before a contact per run,
- 19:28[SPEAKER_00]: which tells you the blocking up front was great.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_00]: Miami's offensive line was winning the trench battle and not just because of Devon Hain's speed, but also his slickness, both the offensive line and Devon Hain were able to synchronize and get those big runs for Miami.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know, you were saying about the way that running the ball in the first half.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_03]: You know, really open things up for the second half because there's big runs of work coming in the second half or in the first half, but it felt like, you know, they were staying committed to it, which they haven't always done in the past and we know that the weather may not have been at the same factor as a September game in Miami, but I can tell you that I live in the, you know, further north of the United States, and it's not the same weather up here as it is down there, right?
- 20:26[SPEAKER_03]: you're keeping that bill's defense out there on the field.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_03]: You're keeping that clock running.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_03]: You're turning out first downs that by the second half, you know, the bills, the bills were wore out.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I think that, that factor day into the big runs that happened.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, the second A-Chantai, so I'm not sure that he was touching the entire time and that crack tossed the left really, I mean, even the first one, like he made that guy missin' the hole and then he kind of stiff armed Jordan players
- 20:55[SPEAKER_03]: But it's not like, you know, he had to do spectacular things.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, he did really nice things, especially the defender he made miss in the hole.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_03]: But you saw as the game went on that there was opportunities presented himself.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_03]: So I think that was a key thing to be able to stick with the run.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_03]: The first half, even though they weren't necessarily getting the explosive plays out of it.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_00]: Eric, before your point, I wanted to quickly shout out
- 21:21[SPEAKER_00]: The Dolphins wide receiver specifically was Procaquina, Jalen Watermelico, Washington, and even the tight ends in Greg Dolcech, Hayden Roochie and Daniel Brunskill.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_00]: Those guys were able to work their blocks.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_00]: into the second level on a lot of these runs.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't show up in the stat sheet, but man, where they also import it in this run game.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_00]: I saw a couple of blocks from Aaron Broder that gave a change in some space.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_00]: There was a play where Hayden Ruchi also slipped up and was actually the 59-year-old touch drum run.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_00]: Hayden Ruchi actually slipped down.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_00]: Still went to his block,
- 22:07[SPEAKER_00]: great execution by the offense in this room again.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, and to your point, I mean, I even saw Daniel Brunskyle made a block from his knees on one of those bigger runs in the second half.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_02]: The dolphins talk a lot about playing with conviction this week.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, when I heard them kind of explain what they meant by that,
- 22:37[SPEAKER_02]: I smelled a little bit of patriots on my dolphins because really what they were saying was do your job.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_02]: Have conviction in doing what it is you're doing and trusting that your team made is doing what he's supposed to do.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_02]: This offense for the dolphins, there is undoubtedly a lot of moving parts.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_02]: but I think it really does just come down to each individual guy owning their own assignment.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_02]: And if they're all doing that, we saw today what it looks like.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_02]: We saw it against Atlanta, what it looks like.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_02]: They can still be very effective.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_00]: All right, before we talk about this dolphins defense and some other notes we are going to head to brick with some ads from our sponsors.

- 26:26[SPEAKER_00]: All right, and we are back.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_00]: Guys, there's a kind of delusional to say that the dolphins might actually go on a run and be, you know, 0.500 by the time they play this Cincinnati Bengals.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Riley Chub said it, right?
- 26:44[SPEAKER_00]: He said, and I quote, we're all delusional, this entire Miami dolphins team in organization.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_00]: He said that everyone believes if everyone plays complimentary football,
- 26:56[SPEAKER_00]: They can do it, they can win, and it's not a delusional feeling.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_00]: A very, very big quote coming from Bradley Chub.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_00]: He had nine pressures today.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_00]: That was the most of any edge rusher this week.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_00]: And defensively, this entire defense from Bradley Chubb to make a Fitzpatrick to, uh, if you Malafon, well, I mean, heck, even Tyrell, Dotsen, they all smothered Buffalo's rhythm.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, the Bill's finished with a negative point OAPA per play, and they're rushing attack cratered at a negative point five to EPA per play, one of the worst single game marks of their season.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_00]: atrocious in the beginning part of the season and stopping this bill's run game who has been absolutely potent and give them their worst single game marks of the season.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_00]: That in itself was delusional to think in the first half of the season guys.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you know, I got to say I hope the graphics department at CBS and Fox have the dolphin seat in the in the hunt category warm for them.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_02]: it is a tradition unlike any other, you know, I mean with the next three games, it's not impossible to think that they could, you know, get a game within 500 here.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_02]: But when we talk about the defense, I mean,
- 28:32[SPEAKER_02]: At all levels, we talked about balance and, you know, coach, I really kind of liked what you mentioned about balance between the position groups and I feel like the defense kind of exhibited exactly that Anthony Weaver, I think he had a fantastic game plan today.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_02]: You know, listen, Buffalo doesn't have a lot of receivers that are guys that are going to get open.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_02]: Key on Coleman is not a separator.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_02]: And so I think that probably had something to do with the decision to start a guy like Juju Brens.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_02]: who's a little bit more physical on the outside and that kind of paid off, but it also allowed to Anthony we would be a little bit more aggressive with his DV blitzes, which we saw quite a few of today.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_02]: You know, as you mentioned Bradley Chub with the nine pressures, he was phenomenal.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_02]: I liked, you know, we saw Zeeek figures today, I think more than we'd ever, more than we've seen him just about all season long, if we go off a his snap counts, I like, I really like the play of Jordan Phillips.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, against the run today, I thought he was phenomenal.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_02]: Jordan Brooks at this little Atlanta 2.0 for him, he's just, he, I mean, every time somebody comes over the middle, he's making them feel it in the passing game right now, he's just playing such inspired football.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_02]: And I guess that that's really the word that I would use for the defenses inspired.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, just the difference in energy level from what we had seen in
- 30:08[SPEAKER_02]: night and day, Anthony Weaver's pressing the right buttons with the game plan defensively.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_02]: And I think it's kind of becoming a positive cycle where, you know, a lot of these players on this defense are young.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_02]: You have a handful of veterans between Jordan Brooks, Tyrell Dodds, and Bradley
- 30:35[SPEAKER_02]: don't know they can do it until they do it.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_02]: And then you start to see that confidence building in real time with some of these players, and that's a really fun evolution that we've gotten to see over the course of this season defensively, and I think it's something that, you know, they can continue to build on going forward.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, as far as the record, the idea of getting to 500, right, I'm gonna take the coach, speak here and say,
- 31:02[SPEAKER_03]: One game at a time, but you are right that, you know, is a tradition.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_03]: Unlike any other, it's either Dolphins, you know, really make that push for the playoffs spot, and then we know how that's ended up.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_03]: In the past, but there is no reason they should not win the next three games.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_03]: If they can play the next three games the same way they played the last three games, then they're going to put themselves into good position for that.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_03]: but we've also seen this team lose to bad teams earlier in the season as well, right?
- 31:37[SPEAKER_03]: So with love to feel like we've gotten over that hump and that we're back to the dolphins that beat up on the bad teams, but need to see that before I'm all the way in and I'm talking about 500 and the P word there.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_00]: But you know, the defense or even the T word,
- 32:01[SPEAKER_00]: because I don't think we all look to win the world.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_00]: The dolphins to win 30 that 13.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_00]: We were expecting our soil them to lose B2 and 8.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_00]: And effectively have a top 5 pick and a 2026.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to get date for that right, Stangings.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_00]: With it.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_00]: Well, right now they would have, but it seems as if they're on track to win.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_00]: against Washington, against the Jets, against the Saints.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_00]: Mind you, both those teams, the Jets and the Saints won.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, I don't think they have
- 32:39[SPEAKER_00]: the firepower or the ability to do what Miami did to Buffalo today.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_00]: The dolphins are not a super duper bad team.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_00]: They are bad in a lot of areas and they are good in certain areas.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_00]: What stood out today was just the consistency overall, even with the defense.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 33:02[SPEAKER_00]: Their pressure plan today was smart.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_00]: 8 defense of back blitzes and they hit a 62.5% success rate on those blitzes.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_00]: That's creative design meeting execution.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_00]: But of course, Bradley Chub and his nine pressures.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_00]: Tyrell Dots in had a 40% pressure rate ranking six among all defenders.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_00]: so far.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_00]: Zach Sealer finally had a sack.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_00]: Bradley Chub had a sack as well, but the real difference was the gap control, especially along the left side of Buffalo's offensive line.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_00]: Buffalo just averaged 2.5 yards per carry on early down, which mean Josh Allen had to play a hero ball.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_00]: I know the guys at the rear is per carry pretty much said that.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_00]: Buffalo doesn't have any receivers,
- 33:47[SPEAKER_00]: outside of James Cook and Dalton Kingcade.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_00]: Miami's secondary really thrived in shutting down the entire Widersky reports.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_00]: Josh Allen had to run around play like my homes and he got bit in the butt a couple times for it as well as soda James Cook.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_00]: It forced to turn three torrent turnovers to from Josh Allen one from James Cook as well.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_00]: But
- 34:14[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, guys, this defense is starting to light it up a little bit slowly, but surely they're stacking good play after good play and Miami's stars are playing like stars,
- 34:33[SPEAKER_00]: on-downs, Jordan Brooks with the Force Bumble as well.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_00]: The other thing which was very surprising to me is that they really attacked offensive tackle Dion Dockins with those defensive backlitses.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_00]: He allowed the second most pressures of all today.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_00]: He allowed five pressures.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_00]: The only person who was above him was Walker Little for the Jacksville Jaguars, but Dion Dockins
- 35:03[SPEAKER_00]: those five pressures, one of them, led to an interception in the red zone, which, if he will have fallen caught as well.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_00]: And the others were just pressures in one of them were were sacks given up.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think the kind of Eric's point earlier about the defense and the way up there are figuring out how to play together.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_03]: You know, if you're really starting to see that now
- 35:34[SPEAKER_03]: acclimating themselves to the defense if they I thought the front for even though we weren't seeing a bunch of clean winds up front you were seeing them do a very good job of those cage type rushes where they were keeping Josh Allen from escaping the pocket for the most party obviously had a couple of plays where he was able to do that but then I felt like they were
- 35:59[SPEAKER_03]: where Josh Allen had to go to the ball.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_03]: He checked the ball down a lot and then the defense and a really good job of rallying to that and being able to defend it felt like when they were throwing those wider silver screens.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_03]: The defense was very much on top of it not only from recognizing just that it was a screen, but also where your help was like knowing where your
- 36:25[SPEAKER_03]: to contain those screens.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_03]: And that's something that we really see earlier in the season as much as we talked about the dolphins staying on schedule staying ahead of the chains.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_03]: felt like the bills were stuck in a lot of those third and long situation.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_03]: There was obviously a couple, you know, third and short, the bills were able to convert several times.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_03]: But a lot of times, it felt like they were in long, long down the distant scenarios where
- 36:50[SPEAKER_03]: you know Josh Allen's always a threat to run, but there's a big difference in the Josh Allen threat to run from third and three or four and third and nine or ten.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_03]: So thought that I think that the defense is a whole is just really starting to gel at this point of the season and hope that we can continue to see that even with the newer guys in there.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_00]: Eric, do you have a player of the game or the player of the day on the defensive side of the
- 37:22[SPEAKER_02]: Um, oh boy, on the defensive side of the football, you know, there's so many guys.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_02]: I think you could give it to, um, I think it has to be Bradley Chub, though.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you mentioned it nine pressures and it felt like it.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he was living in the backfield.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_02]: There were so many plays, I think Miami's offensive line, just, or defensive line, just so thoroughly outclassed Buffalo's offensive line in this ballgame, there were so many plays where, I mean, any time Josh Allen is doing the scramble drill, you kind of feel like he called three whole thing calls while he's running around back there, but, you know,
- 38:06[SPEAKER_02]: He's, I think Bradley Chub really took leadership today of the, of the, of the defensive line and I think you heard it in his comments post game.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_02]: and you see why, you know, he was one of the guys that they opted to keep around.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_02]: Granted, it doesn't mean anything beyond this season, but I think Bradley Chubb was easily your most impactful defender today.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_02]: You know, obviously, honorary mentions to guys like Jordan Brooks, like Mink of its Patrick, Jack Jones.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_02]: Forget you, Brent.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_02]: You do, Brent's, I mean, the entire secondary.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_02]: But I do have to just point out, and let me just preface this by saying I love Jalen Phillips.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_02]: He is fantastic, but does anyone else not find it just a just a little bit funny that the dolphins probably finished on on those pressures better today than they had in recent memory.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_00]: I think they mischop Robinson and his speed, just a little bit too, because in some of those rushes, they were closing in on Josh Allen.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_00]: It took a little bit of time, but would chop Robinson with his speed just off the ball.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_00]: You could have had maybe one maybe potentially two more sex on Josh Allen.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_00]: There were three today, could have been five, four or five with that
- 39:48[SPEAKER_00]: in there.
- 39:49[SPEAKER_00]: The other thing Anthony we've recalled a great game on the back and specifically for the secondary.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_00]: There were a lot of umbrella coverages.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_00]: I want to say I would have to take a look at the metrics.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_00]: There was a lot of cover 3 use today and a lot of cover 1.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_00]: I would say on those defensive back blitzes.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_00]: There was a lot of
- 40:08[SPEAKER_00]: Man match happening and cover three zone blitzes a lot of safety play was used.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, if you millophone will play 26 naps
- 40:18[SPEAKER_00]: Dante Trader, Jr. played all the three snaps, Minkofits Patrick played all snaps, and Melphonhu, Melphonhu was more so near by the line of the screen, which Trader was playing deep, most of the game, and Minkofits Patrick was, you know, sometimes the second high safety, or he was playing as the nickel, which I find his use of versatility on the secondary,
- 40:46[SPEAKER_00]: Pretty much the X factor because it allows
- 40:49[SPEAKER_00]: Dante Trader, Jr., to get comfortable and covered to see everything on the back end.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_00]: And what if you mill the fun moves, big body, and how he plays more so like a linebacker than a safety, he's able to be an extra body in the run game.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_00]: He's able to match up with those tight ends, a little bit better than Dante Trader, Jr. does, and Minkofitz Patrick can take care of a guy like Khalil Shakir, a guy like Keon Coleman, as well.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_00]: So there were some interchangeable change
- 41:18[SPEAKER_00]: Safe to play, and I think that was also a big factor in the run game making sure James Cook did not have a lot of breakaway runs and having me convince Patrick and if you will have fun will get dirty in the trenches Let's connect this back to the big picture guys a few weeks ago we talked about
- 41:38[SPEAKER_00]: Whether or not Mike McDaniel's locker room was player-led, whether it was coach-driven, whether if the locker room was lost and no one was talking to him.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_00]: The takeaway from this went from what I heard in the post conference presser is that the belief is finally being earned.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_00]: because McDaniel was finally backing up the talk he always does.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_00]: It's showing in the game plan, it's showing in the metrics, it's showing on how players are responding to the type of leadership after, you know, four or five straight losses.
- 42:15[SPEAKER_00]: Belief is not assumed anymore.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_00]: It's earned now.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_00]: And
- 42:21[SPEAKER_00]: Devon H&S said it, Bradley Chove has said it.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_00]: The captains as, you know, Mike McDaniel, puts it, have all said it.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_00]: This team believes right now.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what they have.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I have dialed McDaniel several times for his ability to keep this team together.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_03]: And it continues to prove me wrong.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_03]: clear indication that he is not lost the locker room by any means.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_03]: They were playing very hard as a team.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_03]: And not just if they were playing hard, they are playing together.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_03]: You get some of the stuff where you, you know, the front office is turned over is either imminent or part of what's already happened.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_03]: And you start, you know, players are not necessarily going to quit individually because they still have to be able
- 43:18[SPEAKER_03]: out there, whether it's for their existing team or for their next team, but I do think there are opportunities where players start to do their own thing, but we didn't have that today.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_03]: Everybody on the roster was all moving towards one vision.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_03]: They were all playing together.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_03]: They weren't fragmented.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_03]: We will see if that continues.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_03]: It's always easier to
- 43:46[SPEAKER_03]: to get out in front of the mic and say the right things when you're winning, especially a blowout win versus a very good buffalo team.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_03]: You know, if they turn around and lay an egg against Washington over in Spain, then we'll see how the, how the media available.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_03]: These sound at that point, but I do think it's clear that McDaniel still has a varied solid grasp on this locker room and still has this group, you know, playing together as one unit.
- 44:14[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I think the biggest contrast that I've seen over the last few weeks for the dolphins, going back to really the Cleveland game where they were embarrassed by the Browns, is I got the sense that they decided they were no longer okay with things as they were.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_02]: You know, before it was, it was a situation where, you know, adversity is opportunity, which don't get me wrong.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_02]: It is, but if you say it enough times, it's kind of just, okay, well, you know, adversity is opportunity where we're two and six.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_02]: That's okay.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_02]: We'll get by it.
- 44:54[SPEAKER_02]: No, it's not okay.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_02]: It's not okay.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_02]: be indignant, be upset about this.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_02]: This is not the situation you want to be in.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_02]: You don't want to be two and seven going into a home game versus Buffalo.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_02]: That's not where you should be.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_02]: That's not where you expected to be.
- 45:10[SPEAKER_02]: Um, you know, and I think Mike McDaniel mentioned it.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_02]: you know, in the press conference, there was a salty week of preparation.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_02]: Good.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_02]: You need some of that in the locker room.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_02]: It can't always be, you know, good vibes and we're all feeling good about this, you know, not every locker, not every good locker room is a happy locker room all the time.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_02]: That it's all pointed in the same direction, not at each other.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that that's the big thing where you almost thought go that way a few times this year for the dolphins.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_02]: But I think we were kind of painted the painted picture of kind of a coach.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_02]: and a team a few weeks ago that kind of collectively hit their breaking point to where they just got sick of it.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that that's been a long time coming.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if it carries over permanently.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_02]: I would like to see that be the case because I think that this I think
- 46:26[SPEAKER_02]: that this has been kind of a needed development for Mike McDaniel as a head coach and I have seen real development over the last few weeks and at the apartment.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we see it on this not lines too argue.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the folks getting very animated before that getting is chest paved in by Anthony Weaver.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_00]: And look, it's not all just about vibes, right?
- 46:52[SPEAKER_00]: Belief and adversaries opportunity isn't just a vibe.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's a behavior in the locker room.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's a behavior on the field.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_00]: Communication, consistency, to trust in the execution and the players.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_00]: understanding what comes where and what they're supposed to do, they're supposed to be doing their job, this is what they're supposed to be doing, and it will work out.
- 47:14[SPEAKER_00]: This game showed all of that, and if this game showed it, then there should be a better belief moving forward that, hey, we can
- 47:24[SPEAKER_00]: do it.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_00]: That is what the culture and what the story of a complete team is.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_00]: It's not exploding out of the gun, getting these lucky turnovers or scoring this many points.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's being efficient by design.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's getting better as the game goes on, as the plays go, as the drive goes.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what separates
- 47:48[SPEAKER_00]: You know, good to great teams from mediocre to bad teams with the dolphins have been the last 25 years and everyone talks about complementary football coach it's not just a coaching cliche it's it's quantifiable because guess what you play complimentary football you're efficient your balance and that balance turns to belief.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_00]: You know, McDaniel said it, it always starts with leadership, the captain set the tone.
- 48:19[SPEAKER_00]: to a Bradley Chub, Jailum Waddle, Devon, Aachen, Mink of its Patrick, is Acceler.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_00]: They've been trying their best to set the tone.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's not gone their way, the last eight, nine games.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_00]: But for months, we talk about changing the culture, changing the team mentality.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they needed to lose all those games, to actually change the mentality of all their players, or maybe they did have to trade Jailum Phillips to put everyone.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_00]: on notice to, hey, if it's not working now, this is what might happen to you or this is what's going to happen to the team, not so much in words, but more so in action and statistics and how the game is played.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_00]: Today, against Buffalo, wasn't just a win.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_00]: It was proof of a concept that the dolphins can carry out this vision laid out by Mike McDaniel, that to it can execute within his limits.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_00]: That Anthony Weaver can game plan and call place to put to put players in position to succeed.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_00]: That belief is backed by the play on the field and that balance also builds the conference.
- 49:40[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know, the, like you said, it's a cliche to an extent where we saw the way that that work today when when all of this stuff is working together right to run the past the the rush defense the past defense the special teams playing complimentary and you're right about the accountability.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, look at looking how long Ethan Bonner got to stay on the field right you gave up a long touchdown he was pretty quickly replaced.
- 50:11[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_03]: And you do have to have stuff like this happen in the life cycle of a team, right?
- 50:19[SPEAKER_03]: It's very rare that you can come in riding high and just stay on that wave the whole way through to, you know, the ultimate goal of, you know, winning a super bowl someday.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_03]: It's rare that you can ride that high the entire time.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_03]: We're obviously not close to that right now.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_03]: But if you're going to have a player-led locker room the way that Mike McDaniel has wanted to, you're going to have some of what they've had.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_03]: And like you guys said, it's not that you can't have conflict in that locker room.
- 50:55[SPEAKER_03]: It's if the guys that make up that locker room have to be able to find a healthy way to work through that, right?
- 51:02[SPEAKER_03]: It's just like any kind
- 51:08[SPEAKER_03]: But you got to find a way to let it come together and find it common ground.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_03]: And that feels like kind of where we either got into it, at least we're moving in that direction that these guys are figuring out what's wrong, what's not working for them as a unique team and now they're fixing it.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe that happened a little bit later that we want that to happen to this season.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_03]: You know, as we move forward, if they can continue to build on this, then the hope is that, you know, this carries over into into next season.
- 51:43[SPEAKER_03]: Hassan, you know, we talked earlier this season about just how many new pieces are on this Anthony, we were defense and how we're kind of redoing the culture of the defense, right?
- 51:54[SPEAKER_03]: So if we can get this stuff sorted out now, we can have this really rough season that we didn't
- 52:04[SPEAKER_03]: the turning point for this group as a whole is removed forward if they can find those pieces to build upon.
- 52:10[SPEAKER_03]: And next year we come back and we're able to to return some of those pieces and continue to build what feels like it's starting right now based on the way they played last few weeks.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, this team threw around the word delusional in the post game.
- 52:34[SPEAKER_02]: delusional what have been thinking that this game was going to play out in the way that it did.
- 52:39[SPEAKER_02]: Delusional was thinking that you were going to blow out in Atlanta team that played in the
- 52:57[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not, I'm not here to say that this is going to be the start of a big run for the dolphins, and I, because I don't know.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, if there's one thing that we can count on from them over the last year and a half, it's been in consistency.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm, I'm very much guarded towards that.
- 53:15[SPEAKER_02]: But I think that this is probably the most consistent run of
- 53:21[SPEAKER_02]: good habits that they've had over these last three weeks, granted, plenty of mistakes against Baltimore, but I feel like from a game plan perspective in terms of the coaching staff, it's been one of the better three game stretches, Mike McDaniel, and his staff have had in a good long time.
- 53:48[SPEAKER_02]: You know, and going into a game versus Washington with no jade and Daniels going to see New Orleans at or seeing New Orleans at home, going up to New York to be the jets, it's going to continue to test the belief of this team and if those habits have carried over, and then we will be looking at a team that's at least in the hunt on December.
- 54:19[SPEAKER_00]: If the Dolphins had removed some of their bad habits, such as, you know, untimely penalties as we saw in the Baltimore game, or some turnovers that should not have been turnovers, the Dolphins easily are not in the hunt.
- 54:38[SPEAKER_00]: They could be seven and three with the same record as the Buffalo Bills, one game behind the New England Patriots.
- 54:47[SPEAKER_00]: And we wouldn't necessarily be talking about building a foundation.
- 54:52[SPEAKER_00]: We would be talking about the dolphins already having their formula continuing to adjust and actually trying their best to make a deep run into the playoffs, but
- 55:06[SPEAKER_00]: that's not where they are just yet.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_00]: They might have found their formula for the next couple games but we'll see how they do and how they finish off the season.
