- 0:12Hello friends, it's Sean here and it is Tuesday.
- 0:16It is the 11th of July and I hope you are going great.
- 0:21Thank you for pressing play. Thank you for inviting me into
- 0:24your day as we take the next step forward.
- 0:28In the book of Isaiah, now the beginning of Isaiah this week in
- 0:33particular, you will hear a range of oracles, a range of
- 0:38prophecies that Isaiah shares, and these cover an enormous
- 0:43scope and serve as an introduction to the book as a
- 0:47whole. So you were going to hear Isaiah
- 0:49talking about. All the judgment that is to
- 0:52come, if Israel doesn't shape up and an invitation begging,
- 0:56begging God's people to come before God and worship him,
- 0:59rather than all of these things playing out in particular, what
- 1:04on earth do they do with the threat of this growing empire
- 1:08from the north who are threatening, threatening to take
- 1:12over? Well, let us find out.
- 1:15Let us read together. Isaiah chapter 2.
- 1:29This is a vision that Isaiah, son of Amos, saw concerning
- 1:34Judah and Jerusalem in the last days.
- 1:37The mountain of the Lord's house will be the highest of all, the
- 1:41most important place on earth. It will be raised above the
- 1:45other hills, and people from all over the world will stream there
- 1:49to worship. People from many nations will
- 1:52come and say come. Let us go up to the mountain of
- 1:56the Lord, to the House of Jacob's God.
- 1:59There he will teach us His ways, and we will walk in His paths.
- 2:04For the Lord's teaching will go out from Zion.
- 2:07His word will go out from Jerusalem.
- 2:10The Lord will mediate between nations and will settle
- 2:13international disputes. They will hammer their swords
- 2:17into ploughshares and their Spears into pruning hooks.
- 2:21Nation will no longer fight against nation.
- 2:24Nor train for war any more. Come descendants of Jacob.
- 2:29Let us walk in the light of the Lord.
- 2:32For the Lord has rejected his people, the descendants of
- 2:35Jacob, because they have filled their land with practices from
- 2:39the east and with sorcerers, as the Philistines do, they have
- 2:43made alliances with pagans. Israel is full of silver and
- 2:48gold. There is no end to its
- 2:50treasures. Their land is full of war
- 2:53horses. There is no end to its Chariots.
- 2:56Their land is full of idols. The people worship things they
- 3:01have made with their own hands. So now they will be humbled, and
- 3:06all will be brought low. Do not forgive them.
- 3:10Crawl into caves in the rocks, hide in the dust from the terror
- 3:15of the Lord and the glory of His Majesty.
- 3:19Human pride will be brought down.
- 3:22And human arrogance will be humbled.
- 3:24Only the Lord will be exalted on that day of judgment.
- 3:29For the Lord of Heaven's armies has a day of reckoning.
- 3:33He will punish the proud and mighty and bring down everything
- 3:36that is exalted. He will cut down the tall Cedars
- 3:40of Lebanon and all the mighty oaks of Bashan.
- 3:45He will level all the high mountains and all the lofty
- 3:48hills. He will break down every high
- 3:51tower and every fortified wall. He will destroy all the great
- 3:55trading ships and every magnificent vessel.
- 3:59Human pride will be humbled and human arrogance will be brought
- 4:02down. Only the Lord will be exalted on
- 4:05that day of judgment. Idols will completely disappear.
- 4:11When the Lord rises to shake the earth, his enemies will crawl
- 4:15into holes in the ground. They will hide in caves in the
- 4:19rocks from the terror of the Lord and the glory of His
- 4:23Majesty. On that day of judgment they
- 4:27will abandon the gold and silver idols they made for themselves
- 4:30to worship. They will leave their gods to
- 4:33the rodents and bats while they crawl away into caverns and hide
- 4:37among the jagged rocks in the cliffs.
- 4:40They will try to escape the terror of the Lord and the glory
- 4:43of His Majesty as he rises to shake the earth.
- 4:48Don't put your trust in mere humans.
- 4:51They are as frail as breath. What good are they?
- 5:07Lord, we have so many options in our lives.
- 5:10What do we trust? What do we put our faith in?
- 5:13What do we listen to primarily? And you are so clear.
- 5:18Don't. Put our faith in all the
- 5:22possessions that we have that make our life so comfortable.
- 5:25Don't put our faith in the promises that people give to us,
- 5:29those gilded, tongued people in our lives that tell us
- 5:33everything that they can do for us.
- 5:37Instead, you urge us to come before you, to trust in you, to
- 5:42place you at the center of our lives so that everything else.
- 5:48Rotates around you as our axis. God, we just place you in our
- 5:56axis, around which our lives spin and turn through the fast
- 6:03spinning days of joy and gratitude and those slow
- 6:08spinning days of grief and pain and isolation.
- 6:13But all the while, let us have you as our axis.
- 6:20As we hear these words of Isaiah, we pray that you
- 6:23continue to speak to us so that we can hear not just the words
- 6:29of a prophet thousands of years ago, but we hear the word of the
- 6:33living God speaking into our lives today.
- 6:37You are marvelous and you transcend timelines and logic,
- 6:42and here you are. We love you and we worship you,
- 6:46and it's in Jesus name that we pray.
- 6:49Amen.
