- Shamus: What's up everybody and welcome back to the pork roll egg and cheese podcast. My name is Seamus. Herbie: I am Herbie, leader of the Autobots. Shamus: No kidding. Wow. Just want to thank everybody for coming back and giving us a listen. It's always a pleasure to have you in the house. Herbie, it is springtime, my man. Yes, it is. Is there anything you'd like to do in the spring? Nope. Herbie: sir. I was actually happy with my igloo for a little while and then the sun destroyed it. The second Death Star was destroyed. Assaulted by the second Rebel Alliance of the Sun. Shamus: I hate to say it, too, but thank God. this winter has been absolutely disgustingly brutal. He's absolutely looking out the window now and I still see like a couple of mountains of snow and I'm just like, die. Herbie: Yeah, I'm ready to go back to my hobby. He must be destroyed. Shamus: And I'm that guy like I'll go out there with a shovel and just like cut that mound in half and spread it out into the road. I'm just like, die. My neighbors like, dude, it'll be gone by tomorrow. It'll be 70 degrees of water. Oh my God. I don't care. This is not Buffalo. Herbie: I would check out a tailgate over there. It'd be crazy. Shamus: Buffalo? yeah. I don't know. I get drunk and want to jump through one of them tables. Do you know how expensive those tables are at Dirt Town? Those guys are out of their minds. mean, Philadelphia fans are known for being aggressive at Buffalo and I love Buffalo. Don't get me wrong. I love the people in Buffalo. But what are y'all doing, That's what happens when it's too cold and you're stuck in your house all the time and you only get out on Sundays for home games and there are only eight of those. Herbie: Yeah, just, I would, I would, I would... Yeah, they're, they're, yeah, they're, yeah. That's why we just gotta go there and sell a bunch of tables. Yeah, they're just breaking tables, man. They're probably watching, you know, WrestleMania and stuff too, Shamus: There was a lot of weird stuff going through my head when I was stuck in his house this winter. It was like Jack Nicholson up in what was that? The Shining or whatever. Herbie: All work and no play. Shamus: It was horrible. And I'll tell you what, working out of school and those kids can't go out for recess. Yeah. Holy moly. Yeah. They were just like chewing on the walls and licking windows and stuff. They just want to get out, man. So I'm glad that spring is here and we're actually going to get outside and do something. Hopefully starting tomorrow. ⁓ so. And it's canoe season, buddy. What's the difference? Herbie: Yes, and kayak season. ⁓ canoes are different than kayaks. So it's like, you know, the kayaks are like the sit-ins and stuff like that. But now I kind of want one of those Viking long ships, like a long boat. We just like, or maybe like a, four man, be kind of cool. Almost like a canoe, but it's like, you know, more like a Viking long boats. We're gonna like attack other people and stuff, you know, like a, like a, like a pirate thing, you know, just attack other boats. Have a kayak. Shamus: Like a single person one? What do have now? Herbie: Okay. And you know, and you were there when I won it about like, know, ⁓ I flipped my shit. was like, ⁓ my. Shamus: Told you we were gonna win it. Told you. Just like Michael Jordan says, man, think it, will it, done. Yeah. Herbie: So now I got a kayak man. You could definitely tell it's a herbie kayak with all the little decals and everything already popped on it. It's like 700 hopefully they're waterproof so like they'll last a little. Shamus: Well, well, when you won yours, I was like, well, I got to go buy one now. Yeah. And you'd be surprised. Like you actually have to do research. You can't just buy a canoe. Like you have to have one that actually like I had to find one who floats like a 250 pound punk. Yeah. So like I had to buy one. And I guess the next closest one was is a buoyancy or whatever they call it, like 300 pounds. And I was just like, God damn, am I really there? But I'm not. But I always wanted to, know. throw cooler beer in there or whatever. But yeah, it's pretty wild, man, like the different styles like to sit in one to sit on top ones. You know, I just kind of like just give me a float. ⁓ Herbie: I'm like little motors and everything and I'm like, oh my god, that's like a little side pontoon thing I even got like this I just bought like a it looks like a mini kayak and it has a lid on it so you can actually put extra gear in there, you know, especially beer and Just like pull it with you Or pulling a baby kayak with you so, you know me I'm gonna have like nine other nine thousand other items with me and stuff like that. Maybe a harpoon Maybe a spear. You never know. There's beavers out there that is might go crazy. So Shamus: I did see that. Mine has one those. love beavers. Herbie: They're big! They're big! Shamus: I always feel bad like when you watch them nature shows and they build the thing and then those guys go out there with the time like, come on, let's go blow up this beaver day with them. There's and like the Beavers will start again, like those guys are resilient. I'd be like, you know what? Fuck this fucker. Let's go. Crick, man. Maybe he won't blow our shit up. Herbie: You Yeah, that's the one thing about like South Jersey. Like, you know, there's no more. You know, then people don't really talk about creeks. We don't say either the creek. Yeah, creek. Yeah, get into the creek. You know, there's a lot of waterways and stuff around in South Jersey and stuff. You know, there's, know. Shamus: Is it the creek or the creek? There's a butt ton of them across. I live right off Medford Lakes. mean, like it is. ⁓ Herbie: There's tons of wildlife. When I first got here, man, like, you know, like our member, buddy Gary, like he lived out like Mount Holly and stuff like that. There was like peacocks. Really? Yeah, dude, it was like weird because like we came back from a gig and his band was playing. This was like when he was with Carfax Abbey like back in the day. The Byron and Gary and because like me and Tommy and all that we used to be, we were like part of the show and stuff like that. We kind of like, you know, do like like roadies and stuff like that. And. Shamus: Is this fine? Herbie: We're driving home from a gig one night and like, you know, that we had the windows open. It was like a summer night or something like that. And just her like that. ⁓ it's a. What the fuck is that like? ⁓ yeah, it's the peacock. I'm like, peacock. In Mount Holly, there's turkeys. You'd be surprised. There's turkeys, guinea hens. Yep. Creek Angels. We'll get into the Creek Angel thing. Like, that's a whole new episode of Creek Angel stuff. Shamus: Crack it. Now I get the alerts. Yeah, I get the alerts. Yeah. Hit my phone all the time. We do. Herbie: yeah. We have a group chat for like the Creek ⁓ Creek Angel alert. You know, like when you on the next show, like one of the shows will will explain what the Creek Angels are. But in people will be able to. It's almost like you ever see the movie Wrong Turn kind of like that. There was those mute. Yeah. So it's those those people and they live by the creek. ⁓ yeah. Scuttling around and just like just drop an empty airplane balls of booze all over the place. Shamus: Hills have eyes. whether at Walmart. scouring the shelves of sauerkraut. Herbie: You will like smell like a distinct smell of skunk cabbage. You also have like, I believe like a way of like one of the theories is that we believe they're into like some kind of like rudimentary, like piney power type of sorcery. like they have, uh, familiars of a scoby ducks. So there's, there's, there's, there's a lot of, um, a lot of myths going around in South Jersey. Yeah, they're definitely the real man. They're real. I've seen them. Shamus: Very nice. There's all kinds of stuff out here. One thing I haven't seen out here since I moved to Medford is skunks. Yeah, I see one dead up in Tabernacle, but I've not seen or smelled anything in this neighborhood. I don't know if it's like maybe because I did see a fox or a coyote or whatever. Maybe they're eating them and so I haven't seen a raccoon either. I do see a lot of squirrels and chipmunks, but I've never seen. the deer to walk right up to your window and bang their head on the glass and all that stuff. Yeah. The one morning I came around the corner ⁓ you know this, but the listeners don't. have ⁓ cats, rigs of myrtle. Yeah. Total butt faces. But anyway, the one you've seen is he's a big ass cat. Yeah. Like he's he's no joke. He's solid muscle. He's at the window. One. I came around this corner and I hear like, wow. On the window. What the hell? Come around the corner. The cat is like right up at the window and every once in he's banging his head. And I'm like, what the hell is he doing? And then you would hear tap him and the deer are like brand new windows, of course. The deer would like hit his head on the glass and then the cat would do it. And they were like playing this game. And I'm like, and the cat's like, just open this window and I'll take care of this fucking guy. And I'm like, get off the window. I just paid for that. Jesus Christ. And then you look at the deer and it's got that. Herbie: Ha ha ha ha. it They're big too, Some people, especially people in South Jersey, of course, they see how big they are. I have problems sometimes driving early in the morning. I'm almost potential ⁓ deer casualties by running these things over and stuff. Because it's like a school of them just run out in front of you. And like, what are you doing? So I've got to drive through certain country roads and stuff, like 20 miles an hour or so. Shamus: I never understood why animals do that. I'll be driving to school in the morning, going to work. And all of sudden, there's not a car on the road, nothing going on. And I guess this is how the coyote sees it when he's chasing a road runner or like Tom and Jerry. He looks both ways. There's no cars that he steps out. It's like, wow, because like this squirrel just waited for me to get like 10 feet and just like and then just stopped. Yeah. Oh, shit. And I was like. Herbie: They also do like that that quick like dash and dive like like it's like they're playing dodgeball like imagine. I just kind of tails all twitching. Shamus: It looks like they're having a stroke because they're not doing anything. And that's what he kind of did. I drove over. didn't run him over, but I rode over and like he I saw him in my window like take. But I'm like, what are you doing, dude? Dear do the same thing. But some of them get so big out here, like when I hit you, they keep running. Yeah. And they take like a fender with them. Yeah. ⁓ Herbie: And like they damage your that's. Thanks for the souvenir. Great man. I had the like I hit the one accidentally. I felt so bad. was like, oh, jeez. But it was like, you know, of course, the mom comes out first and I was I was because I'm if anyone knows me, I drive like a grandpa. So I'm not like hot rod and any by no means anywhere. So, of course, I winged like the baby. feel like in one of the babies it was like you know like four so like the one at the very end because like they don't they just keep going very slow and it's and I'm going like 15 miles an hour ⁓ I'm putting my brakes on and stuff and it's still like you know hit him on the hip and it does a little spin like ⁓ jeez ⁓ don't be dead. Please. I don't want to kill a deer You know I mean, but I also don't want to damage my vehicle or anything like that, too Shamus: Did he get up and walk away? Yep. That's what I'm saying. If you're only doing 15, those things shrug that off. Herbie: ⁓ yeah, because normally what I do is like I'll do 25 like it because there's certain spots that I know where they'll cross through so I'll go like 25 and just like just go slow but like people that drive behind me are probably just goddamn guy. Well look man you can go around me you can get in the accident not me I don't feel like doing all that crap. Shamus: Well, I follow Medford Township on their Facebook page. Yeah. They put up a thing. Warning, it's springtime. it's her mating season or something like that. And be advised like they're going to be on the run. It's mating season. well, if they're mating, why the fuck can I run? If they're busy in the woods doing that, why are they on? Herbie: Maybe they're running to it. I mean, I'd run to it. You know, the 10 o'clock at night text you're like, shh. Yeah, it's like, come on. Shamus: Yeah, maybe they chase you. Herbie: I am ready for like, know, springtime and everything for the hobbies and everything to do. Shamus: I just want to be outside and drink a beer. Yeah. Yeah. Herbie: I tried doing that when the snow thing was here because I normally like if the snow is deep enough I'll build like a huge snow fort and have people hang out and do like a little bonfire. like my neighbors are like welcome driving by and they're like what the hell are all these people doing? And grill up some sausages! Shamus: That's fine when it's a normal winter, but this shit got down like five degrees. Like one day I was outside for a parent drop off and what the wind chill on my iPhone, it said it was like negative one. Yeah, I haven't been that cold since I couldn't even tell you. Herbie: Yeah, everything was like completely white and stuff. So it almost looked like, you know, the, the, the, the five minute video of like a Superman two on Krypton. was just nothing but ice. Shamus: then like by the time I do my rounds and go to the other school because I cover two schools like the elementary school they do their drop off. I'm outside from like 730 till like 930. And I walk like three and a half four miles in the whole time. But I'm also wearing this gigantic Arctic coat. I'm wearing long johns. Like it's ⁓ carrying an extra 50 pounds. But it's time to get back to my office for breakfast at nine o'clock. I'm done. Yeah. Herbie: your gear off, it's like, it's like, well. Shamus: Iron Man suit Jesus Christ Take this shit off people like ⁓ my god. He's not really that fat. He's actually skinny under there look at that Herbie: either like the kid from the Christmas story is like I can't put my arms down Shamus: That's exactly what it was this year. was crazy. And trying to be tactical doing that. Herbie: That's very hard. Yeah. Shamus: God forbid if I had to pull my weapon like instead of sticking my hand like I'd have to do the Ralphie thing pulled out this way. I kind of hope I hit something. Herbie: and the ⁓ Shamus: I still have one in those jackets. One thing is great, though, is when those kids come out, no matter who's standing outside teachers, superintendent, principal, vice principal, they don't give a shit. They hit that door, man. Them snowballs come flying in and I'm in it. I'm all about it. Yeah. I got yelled at the one bus drivers like, are you crazy? Herbie: Snowball fights are the best though. Shamus: this one. There's one bus was taken off and I guess a kid snuck a snowball on. So what he was driving because I I love you know, I was I'm like Uncle Buck. I love rousing the kids up and stuff like that and then send them home to their parents like, oh yeah, we're out up and then I be the cool guy and like, all right, go home. And then parents like, dude, what are you doing? You're sending them home. Well, like this one eighth grader, I guess he snuck a snowball to the bus and I'm standing on the corner. So the buses pull out and they got to go by me. Well, this kid And I thought it was pretty funny. He's a security guard and I looked up and he threw it at me and missed me by like two inches. That's all of it. So like I reached down and grabbed the snowball and I looked up and I saw he was having trouble getting the window back up and I'm like, ⁓ I got him because I got a pretty decent arm. picked up. I hit that window as he was lifted it up and it went right through like a slit this big. Yeah. Hit him and then hit like because he was like the second. Herbie: Thank Shamus: grow in and the way the angle hit, it went past him and hit the bus driver. that was like, I was like. She was like, so the principal, like his eyes. So the bus driver comes down in the little bottom of her steps and she's like, are you crazy? And I was like, yeah, dude, are you crazy? And a principal. She was like, you guys are kids. It's like we're going to these kids. Herbie: Shrapnel looks no shrapnel. See, but that stuff's fun though, Shamus: That was at my other school. That wasn't at this school. Yeah. Herbie: There's so much stuff out there now for like, you know, for like, like they even have like those things where you can actually like sling the snowballs. It almost looks like, you know, like the tennis ball thing for like dogs. You sling it, but it's like for snowballs. I'm like, Oh, that's Yeah. Like that's fricking perfect. That just gives you like extra range and everything, Shamus: look like them giant plastic slice. They're just murdering people. Herbie: but you know, that's what you gotta do, man. Kids, like back in the day, we didn't have a lot of stuff to play with, man. You give us a couple of sticks and stuff like that. ⁓ my God, we're in our glory. Shamus: Well, that's why I didn't understand. Like when we were kids, it snowed like that. It didn't matter. And that's why I was kind of like, damn, I can't believe I'm this cold. I'm older now. Cause when I was a kid, I'd have been out every day out there. First thing we did was walk around, made money shoveling. Then after that sledding, like all kinds of stuff. Herbie: I still like they're still like listeners if you guys got any good spots like in the in South Jersey area to do sledding I'm still down for that because like there was a spot that we used to go with Big Bob and all them that were gork actually hurt his arm and it was it was like this I think it's like a place in Burlington like a farm farm field or something like that but it was like kind of have like two big slopes And that's where everyone was like, ⁓ it was just great. know, but before that, I used to like do a lot more sledding in like Hamilton townships. It was like veterans park. And there's this overpass that's right next to the, ⁓ Shamus: That's the hotspot because I used to work at Hamilton at the school there and those kids just talk about that all day. It's Herbie: Dude, I swear to God, that is like the best one. Like it's just like, cause we used to be able to do it where we can actually like lay flat on our bellies and just have like one small jump. it just took you out so far and high that you literally can actually do like a thing where you're like your vertical. And then you can actually lift yourself to be horizontal and just. Shamus: That's a wide world of sports shit, that guy comes flying down the agony of defeat. Herbie: Yeah, this is like, I did that with my cousins, that's like when they had the VHS cameras, you know those things were like super huge. So we had a video that, dude. I wish I could find that. That thing was just like, it was just that sick, like the speed that you built off, cause like it's the side of an overpass. And it's just like a big, big mountain hills, it's just, you know, knife-powdered snow. And of course this is like, you know, in your early teens and stuff like that, so if you land on your neck going like 40 miles an hour, good! We had a couple of Coors lights and stuff like that. It's perfect Shamus: We used to go to it's up on 130 and sentiments and it's like a cemetery, but Lacan now I think it was called or something like that. But yeah, they had to shoot like everybody would go there when it snowed. Really? Dude, it was awesome. Absolutely awesome. But then they ended up putting I guess they got tired of it. Yeah. And they put like some kind of fountain or something like right in the middle of it and kind of screwed everything up. When I was a kid, man, Susan Snowed. Herbie: Liken House. Shamus: we had to get a ride there. it didn't matter. Back in those days, we grabbed the bumper of a car and hop. Yeah. You know, get as close as we can and then run up. It was, dude, these kids nowadays are like, ⁓ let's play Fortnite. Yeah. Herbie: Plus I ⁓ Shamus: That's another thing about this. Yeah, the way it is now. Yeah. I come home my mom. I heard sledding. She never asked where. Yeah. Or, know, who's responsible? She was like, way to go, idiot. It's your fault. How bad is it? All right. Here's to town. I'll eat to your homework. Go to bed. Herbie: Yeah, yeah, are you bleeding? Yeah, go walk it off. Now it's like, ⁓ my God, my baby, I'm suing the I'm showing the township. talking to the school. I'm Yeah, and I want to raise awareness. I'm to start a club for for people who suffer damages from sledding. You want to raise awareness like Christ lady. Shamus: the sled company. And my dad would just walk, as my mom's talking to me, my dad would just walk by looking at me and be like, fag. Just keep walking. Herbie: But being that, you know, spring's come up, like what hobbies are you looking forward to do? Shamus: I'm an outside project kind of guy. I like landscaping. I like doing my, I mean, you wouldn't tell by my front yard, but like I said, we're still kind of doing that. Just outdoor landscaping stuff. Like I love doing stuff out in the yard, that kind of thing. Washing cars, working on cars. You know, just like 1950s America, like on a Saturday, people out there washing their cars or working on their cars or they're doing their lawns and stuff like that. I love that kind of stuff, man. And then I'm always down for a barbecue. I love I miss barbecue food so much. I can't wait to I get to pull my shed out or my grill on my shed. But yeah, just, you know, having a couple of beers, you know, I got to pull here now and all that stuff. So sit and pull side and just listen to some music. And I can't wait. And that's more towards the summer. But yeah, I just like being outside, man. It doesn't matter what I'm Like I told you yesterday, I find like I've never been to like I'm not a big Starbucks guy. Yeah. Or gourmet coffee. the guy who goes into like an auto body shop and there's a coffee machine there that's got like the brown ring on it. So like that's the kind of call out that kind of guy. I'm not picking about coffee or anything. I just give it to me. I don't need a twenty dollar cup of latte ⁓ just give me the Maxwell. Also the soldiers and like just throw it in there and. Herbie: My name on it. Especially with the glass coffee pot where like, know, it looks like it's full, but it's not. It's just been saturated with coffee stain. So it's like maybe a half a cup. Shamus: It looked like in the bake room where I used to work. It's perfect. Yeah. So yesterday was nice out. So I just wanted to get out of house and a lady friend of mine was just like, hey, let's go for a walk and we'll go get a coffee. And I was just like, you know, I'm like 48 years old and I've never gone to a coffee shop. And she's like, you serious? I was like, yeah. So we actually took like a like a three mile walk and then stopped at. One of the coffee shops right on Main Street in Medford. And of course, I walked in and was totally intimidated because it's not like Wawa where you just walk up and grab your own. It was just like latte, cappuccino, mochaccino. I'm like, yeah. And I just get a coffee with like two creams. That's just like, what do you mean? Like a coffee? And I'm like, that's what you sell here, right? And they're like, well, we sell the mocha. And so I looked at her and I was just like, I just want a coffee. ⁓ She was like, can we have two ice lattes? And I was like, Herbie: You mean eventi Shamus: I'll take it. It was good. Yeah, I'll give it to her. But I was kind of but I didn't know what I was doing. So I was just kind of like whatever. Herbie: So I thought to pay for this in American money or kind of pay for it in lira. Shamus: And the people there are always so up and like, yeah, well, I've never. Excuse me. And there have been a coffee store, but from what I've seen and what I've heard, because the one time we were in Colorado for our military union, a buddy of mine is a total Starbucks snob. Yeah, but he's he's done stuff in the military that set him up for a job where he's making like six or six figures a year easy. You know, the guys networked with like a million dollar million dollar people and stuff like that. you know, he's always. one of those guys. Yeah, but the guy's a trained killer. You would never know anyway ⁓ were target Herbie: But if you mess up that two pumps of latte or two pumps of soy milk, Shamus: Well, this is how your life this is how uppity Starbucks people are to me We're ⁓ we're a target and me and him are standing at the front waiting for my buddy to pay for I think we just went to go pick up like milk or something like that or and it was close to store so my buddy goes I Think we're gonna stop at a Starbucks on the way back. There's I checked my phone. There's one further up the road. Yeah So I turn around and those targets have hey look at the Starbucks right here, dude Like what do you mean? gotta stop at a Starbucks and he goes I'm not stopping in there. That Starbucks sucks. I'm like, what do mean? He was like, there's no barista there. And I'm like, what the hell is a barista? And he was like, I'll tell you when we get in the car. So my buddy comes walking out, we get in the car and he goes and make a right and art. Well, my other buddy goes, hey, man, make a left. We got to go to Starbucks. And the guy who's driving the car looks at me and goes, well, there are Starbucks in there. And I was like, absolutely. So he goes, what the hell? So the guy who wants to go to the Starbucks says, I didn't realize this. Herbie: Thank Shamus: The ones you see a target. could do at your house because they already have the pre ground all that stuff like that. There's no barista. Yeah. I'm like, what the hell's a barista? He was like, he's like the master dude. Like he's the chef of the coffee beans. So it goes out of Starbucks. They actually grind them fresh and there's a barista to make sure everything's good. I'm like, get the get out. So we pull up the Starbucks and I'm like, I'm going in. And he was like, please don't make a scene. I was like, I'm not going to make a scene. I just need to know what's good. Like I said, this is why we're doing this podcast, because this is the kind of stuff I love to learn about. So I walk in and there are some college check back. Can I help you? Welcome to Starbucks. Can I help you? And I'm like, I need to talk to the barista. She was like the manager and I'm like, is he the barista? She was like, no, no, it's like, no, I need to talk to barista. And she like looked at me and I was like, why? And she was like, Usually people ask for the manager if they have a complaint, not the briefs. I said, no, no, no, it's not a complaint. Everything's good. I just need to ask this dude a question. So this guy comes out and I'm like, tell me the difference between Starbucks here or the Starbucks in Target. And he was just like, said the same thing my buddy did. He was like, that's all the stuff like you can buy at the store. It's already pre ground that they just pretty much filter hot water, throw it and give it to you in a cup here. We actually grind it. And I was just like, no kidding, dude. Herbie: And then we filter it through hot water and put it in a cup and give it Shamus: So I was like, really? We drove a mile and half for this? How's the light? Herbie: Was he wearing like a knitted beanie cap or anything like that? Come home, man. Shamus: don't think he was, because I think everything was ground at that point because it was like 10, 11 o'clock. But like I was kind of blown away. Like I actually learned something new and he was like, why would you like it? I was like, no, I'm still not paying $20 for a cup of Herbie: do you look like you have like long hair and a ponytail shy love ⁓ Shamus: He's actually, you know, he looks like a corporate type. My buddy standing there. I'm like, ⁓ my God, these guys probably shop at, you know, Old Navy or whatever, like that kind of clothing or what was the other one? Amber, Carmi, Fitch. I'm I'm showing my I'm showing my age there. These kids are like. Herbie: Yeah, are they even open anymore? I think they're all going like American Eagle and all that stuff Shamus: But ⁓ yeah, so when we went up to the one in Medford, I was just kind of like, ⁓ my God, these are like the same kind of people. Like coffee people are the same kind of, And I'm like, can I just get a coffee with two creams and a sugar? they're like, you mean like a latte? And I'm like. Herbie: Yeah. You mean like? Shamus: How about a cup of tea, bitch? Yeah. Herbie: I couldn't do it man. It's just You're right. Like it just It gets to the point where it is like even just like saying it like a regular black coffee It's like it's almost like foreign language that you're speaking to people but you could use like some kind of peasant surf that's like Like cutting the turf over in Ireland and stuff like that for Jesus Christ I just want a regular coffee. That's why I it. You know, I go to wall you know, get a wall. stuff like that or Dunkin Donuts and stuff We're making it home Shamus: Wow, I was got it down. Pat, you walk in, there's like 90 coffee Posterior. You got like French roast vanilla and you know, like it's Springs coming up. So they have like the St. Patrick's Day Roaster and you just walk over, walk over to the counter, do your little thing and then pay for it. Perfect. It's awesome. It's absolutely amazing. But yeah, I just it's like I said, I don't just give it to me. I don't care if it's coffee. It's coffee. Just give it. I'm not one of those people. I call any French vanilla with hazelnut cream. Did you want almond milk? Yeah. Almond milk or regular milk? And I was like, and just to be that guy, I was like, is it 2 %? And she's like, the milk? And I'm like, the almond milk, is it 2 %? She's like, they make that? Herbie: Some people get like... Yes, they do. In Sweden, they're like, no, they don't. You know what? Now, now wouldn't be a bad idea. We actually do a thing. Go to go to Starbucks and just make up some coffees and just see what the hell they make. Shamus: Just give me the milk. I don't want to pay $35 for it though because then they'll be that's the custom row, We had to get the barista up too. Herbie: He says if it's a. We had to bring in two baristas. Like I shall only drink almond milk that's directly non GMO from California, Southern California. And it's got to be four, seven, four point four point five percent. Shamus: One thing I did notice though, and somebody mentioned it on the Medford Township Facebook thing a while back when they were building, they built that brand new brewery on Main Street, Magnify Brewery, I think it's called. I've never been, I look forward to going there, that's another thing I want to do this spring. ⁓ And somebody was just like, hey, what are they building there? And somebody was like, they're probably putting in another brewery. And I was like, man, there must be a lot of breweries up there. Because I've lived here for about four or five years, but I never get to Main Street. Like, I'm not one of those guys that just go out there by myself or whatever. So after we got our coffees, we were there for like an hour. We got up and we started walking. Dude, there's literally like five or six breweries on that road. And then there was a sign like every third Thursday in Medford is food truck night on Main Street. And I usually have like 20 food trucks. and she was like, you've never been to one of these? I was like, no. So that's what I plan on doing this spring. I'm going to go check all that out too. Because it is a nice area. Like that whole, like the Christmas, the Dickens Festival they have and stuff like that. It's amazing. So this spring I just, you know, go up there, check out the food trucks, check out some of the breweries and stuff and do all that. You wanna go? Hell yeah, man. Herbie: Yeah, I'll go. I'm not gonna, I mean, I've been to stuff like that before, but I'll check out like I haven't been at like for a while, you know, especially like the food trucks and all that stuff. But you know, the breweries, I do like the breweries, but you know, everyone's, I'm not a big IPA guy. if they make anything, it looks like Guinness or anything. That's like, like Sam Adams or like a Heffenweizen or like any type of imported German beer. like, I'm in, you know, but if you're to give me like IPA with a 77 % hops and I'm like, look, I really, it smells, it tastes like pumpkin. I'm like, okay, look. Shamus: Now, anything, pumpkin is absolutely disgusting. Herbie: Yeah, I'm like, come on. You know, but for me, like, you know, I'm going to get back to doing like, you know, the kayak and thing still like doing like Malo camping, little tiny trips and stuff, cooking, cooking breakfast and stuff down at the lake. You I still do that, man. Do some magnet fishing and people like, what the hell is that guy doing? Magnet. Yeah. ⁓ it's just like pretty much I got a big magnet and I got a long string. Shamus: What the hell was that? ⁓ I think he magna fishing. So you're out there doing some weird shit. Fish. I'm like, do you ever get anything with the magnet? I see videos people pull guns and bikes and Herbie: no, magnet fishing. ⁓ I'm trying to like hit like I go everywhere like you know good events in town and stuff like that of course I know go to like you know I've been to like the rank Hocus and stuff like that out by willing brothers like that bridge spot I just have it in the Jeep with me all the time so wherever I you know did it at waiting pines and stuff like that so it's just like you know you never know what you find Shamus: Where do you go? would be scared to death man especially someone to start like does not like to do where is a mess so ⁓ yeah if you're pulling something up and it's like heaviest man when it starts to break that water like you know you never know what yeah water freaks me out anyway ⁓ Herbie: especially ⁓ yeah. don't blame you. Especially they ran coca's and stuff like that in Delaware. It's like dark as hell, man. Shamus: Exactly. If it's at the bottom of that river, it should be there. That's where it belongs. Herbie: No, luck would be like, you know a small metal box with the Necronomicon in it or something like that and I summon demons I'm like, I don't need that crap Shamus: Exactly. Or some box that's just like that some radiation thing in there. As I pulled up everybody standing within a five foot radius and he is now like dying of cancer because of radiation. Yeah, some piece from Chernobyl was dumped in there. So shit like I don't want no problem. Herbie: None of that crap man. like yeah, then also too like I've been getting into like, you know, especially like with some of the RC stuff I got like a little RC speed boats and Shamus: I have a car that I gotta put the I've had it since I was a kid. Yeah, it was like the guy we bought it off. It was like an RC Pro Am car. Like it was all souped up and shit. Herbie: Yeah, they got ones out there you dropping money in it left and right. I'm like, the like the little speedboat I got there was like maybe 30 bucks, but it's cool though. It's just, you know, and I got this little kayak guy. It's like a little RC kayak guy. So I'm just like sitting there, just showing, making breakfast at the lake and just cranking tunes, eating breakfast and just playing speedboat and a little kayak guy for a little while or, you know, launch. They have like also those like mini RC planes. I got a couple of them. I lost the one I was so upset. Shamus: I always wondered if the helicopter won. Herbie: The helicopter ones, I'm gonna be honest dude, they're kinda hard to navigate for me. didn't go super nuts with the price either bro, trust me. Shamus: It's like the cheap ones, not like the super. Like the guy, you know, Matt and Carol. Yeah, Matt's got a couple of the airport. think I don't know if he's got a helicopter, but like the airplanes he's got are like. They're like four grand, five grand. And like they're like you actually need a runway to take things off. And yeah, yeah, I don't know. Parts. just want like to, you know, go to Ali's or what's name of that store? Bottom dollar or whatever. I like the cheap twenty dollar one. That's me. Herbie: Yeah, well those are, yeah. That's me. That's me. I'm not yeah, I'm not trying to get extra crazy I just like you know get like the thing and like sometimes I've done it where I've taken planes off like on the The one park I go to has like a like a Pavement where like people are running and walking stuff like that So it gives me like a nice little runway or I just grab and I just chuck that and then yeah, just zip it Just get it out there Just like you know, just like summertime, you know, like, you know, the of course, you know, like the summer like Shamus: These things are pretty cool, man. Herbie: pool parties, barbecues, anything you can add just to hang out with your friends and like drink beer and like, know, just eat grilled meats and stuff is fantastic. Shamus: I just love being outside man. Herbie: And I'm hoping, I'm hoping, cause I know like, I don't really know the names of the birds and stuff like that, but I always have like the one and like in South Jersey, there's one bird I call the cheeseburger bird. Cause like it's, it's called, just goes cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheese, cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheeseburger, And when I hear that man, that's like, ⁓ yeah. It's springtime and summertime and stuff like that. And then there was this other bird I call a laser bird who goes, sounds like a crap. Shamus: I've heard that one. I've never had a cheeseburger Herbie: Yeah, you know, I haven't heard the cheeseburger bird in a little bit, man. I miss them, you know, like they're around. I think it's like a rent or something like that. Yeah, but actually the the the because when I mentioned it before, people like, what the hell are you talking about? So I think I was in the backyard with Bob and all them. And of course, there was a goddamn cheeseburger bird. was like, thank God. was like cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheese. Shamus: might be on his way back from the south. Herbie: And you're like, last times people, when you, if you notice, like people don't really notice like the sounds of birds and all that crap while they're hanging out, doing a barbecue, drinking beers and margaritas and stuff, you know, and I'm sitting there like I hear cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheese. Shamus: When I was a kid and we moved to Riverside, we would play in the neighborhood and stuff. And my dad always had like Friday, Saturday nights in the spring or summertime, like all the neighbors. My dad built like this huge front deck on the front of the house. And my dad liked to have, you know, a nipper too. Yeah. And all the neighbors would come over and hang out with my mom and dad on a deck. Mostly my dad. All the women went in house. My mom, they had tea or coffee or whatever. And all the kids would run the neighborhood. Well, my dad, guess, thought we were dogs. and trained us like you would. And he could whistle like you could hear from like a mile. And we would just come running and he'd be like, all right, street lights on and out. There was this goddamn bird in the neighborhood who picked up on that whistle. So we'd be outside like Saturday, all the neighbors up on the porch and stuff like that, and da da. We'd be playing jailbreak or spring, some people call it spring or whatever. Because it was like, my neighborhood was ridiculous. There was like 90 kids in that neighborhood, and then we'd have kids from other neighborhoods come and play. Dude, we'd have easily 30 on 30 for jailbreak. It was crazy. So like all of sudden in the middle of game, I'd be like hiding and stuff. Herbie: you Shamus: What the hell does he want? Yeah. I can get to the house and like he's up there telling a joke and he looks at me goes, what? He whistled. He's like, I didn't beat it. ⁓ so I go back and hide. Come to find out, like this bird picked up on his whistle and for four or five years. I hope that bird died. I prayed for death. But like after like I remember being like a junior and that's you you don't play anymore. I'm coming back from football practice. I'm like, you know, it was crazy. So it wasn't a cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheeseburger. But that bird sounded exactly like my father, dude. Unbelievable. Herbie: don't know what kind, there was like this bird that used to hang out like outside in the parking lot of the hospital. So after I would leave and it was just like maybe a little bit during or a little bit after COVID. So I'm walking out of the parking lot and I swear to God, it reminded me of like the movie, like the birds and stuff like that. Cause I was just, I'm walking out here. Like behind my head and you just like a, like a slight tap. then I see it, it's this damn bird, there's blue jays that are territorial, if you're near their eggs and all that stuff, which is cool. I'm like, all right, I'm used to it. But this did not look like no damn blue jay. It was a beautiful bird, but it was black and white, and it was a decent size. It was a little bit smaller than a crow and everything. Shamus: Yeah, I get it, dude. Herbie: And of course I'm going through like my little like a panic attack of like, maybe this is cause it's right next to a hospital. So I'm like, maybe it got into some kind of like, you know, medical waste and it's now it's a mutant zombie bird. Cause this damn thing's like hissing and shit. I know birds at least from what I understand, birds do not go. They don't. Yeah. So I was like, Oh boy, this, this is a mutant bird and it's going to like, it's going to beck me. I'm going to like, yeah. Shamus: Yeah. cat bird. Herbie: that's just like Jesus Christ but it would just dive bomb the shit out of you so like at first I'm like alright let me and I didn't freak out or nothing like that but I was like alright well I'm looking around yeah I'm like where is it like where's the nest at maybe I'll you know move out the way because like you know they have like the big like the outside lights and everything and the parking lot so I'm like maybe the are up there so I walk away from those and the bastard was still coming after me Shamus: the situation. Herbie: was like, he's got a personal vendetta or something. I didn't do nothing. I'm like, Jesus Christ. I'm like, I didn't have no food on me. Nothing like that. It's not like I have like a hat full of French fries or anything. Nothing. Shamus: Maybe he's a Trekkie. Oh, God. You're a big Star Wars guy. Oh, he's a Trekkie. There's that guy. Herbie: It's like, he is. There's that guy that wore that Boba Fett helmet at dad's. I'm like, Jesus Christ. But yeah, was just not so, man, but. Shamus: you That stuff happens. Yeah, we got ducks. I got that little like a water runoff rain on our thing. It's like a pond up here. And when I used to take Adam was a pit bull like fought before. When I got him, you know, it was great. It's like I ever had. He got along with the cats and everything like that was, I guess, not reprogrammed, but retrained. So like we'd walk up there. Those ducks weren't having them. Like they would like come up off the like turn around like usually ducks like what those dudes would. They would turn at us and then like they would start talking and like they all start turning and start walking towards us and and I look over and that dude was like. Yeah, I want him to talk to Lisa. I'm like, where are you going? We're like, oh, and he's ducks are chasing us and like. Herbie: They had turkeys. had turkeys like near the hospital and stuff too. And they're the Mount Holly turkeys. So, know, either they're, going to try to pick the shit out of you. Yeah. Oh yeah. Or you're either asking to change for. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Let me get $5. What's your turkey? What do you need? Shamus: Fuckers got cred. They do like a from that they from around the way that life. ⁓ Herbie: And they're always, and they're like, they travel in groups. So it's almost like they're a pack of velociraptors. they're like, folks like turkeys, if you see turkeys around, they're not small. They're, they're rather large birds and they're very aggressive. Well, like they've, you know, they've like attacked people. So if you're just like walking into work and you're like, ⁓ getting yourself in like, that mind frame, like, all right, it's going to be one of how, how, how's my day going to be? And then all of you get a, a costed by a couple of Mount Holly turkeys. Yeah. And you got no money on you. Everything's everything's card and stuff right now. So you don't have any change to give her nothing like that. Shamus: When I lived in Delanco, there's this humongous human being that lived next door to me. His name is Mike. I mean, decent size guy, big dude. Hunt it everything. He went to like Canada to hunt bear or elk, moose, da da da. He told me one time, I said, we were talking in my backyard over a couple of beers and one guy was sitting with us, was like, what was the scariest thing you ever hunted? And he's like, you're not gonna believe this, turkey. And we're like, recited the line from Jaws. Have you ever looked into an eye of a wild turkey? Like I've had a bottle of water. What are you talking about? Dude, you would just like, dude, they are the most ferocious animals on the planet. They communicate with each other. They move a certain way. He was like, he was like, you were in the military. Right. And I was like, absolutely. He was like, you know what flanking is And I'm like, that's basic training. One on one. He was like, turkeys do that. And like, I don't know how true this is, but like the guys got like an elk head on his wall. He's got a bear head on his like or a bear rug and all that stuff. So the guys hunted all kinds of stuff. And when somebody that big like the guy could play linebacker in any NFL team and he was just like, I don't don't mess with turkeys, bro. Yeah. So you're not hunting them. They're hunting you. And I'm like, ⁓ my God, it's going to be a movie like how we've not touched on it yet. So when you said the Mount Highly Turkey things, they're worse because them dudes are from the streets. Herbie: They're smart. They don't play they don't play and they do the flanking and stuff too the one time I actually had to wheel right in order to out maneuver and stuff like that I was like Jesus Christ think I got to the hospital before they actually rail out Shamus: He was like, why do think they made that South Park episode about I'm like, because it was Thanksgiving and he was like, no, ⁓ they're formidable, dude. I'm like, how are we kill a million of these things for Thanksgiving? And if they're so over. He he was like, those are the ones that are trained. He was like the ones from the streets and one in the wild, Herbie: Yeah. Powering. ⁓ the ⁓ Shamus: have seen videos of that, yes. Herbie: to get warmed up and stuff and like, there's like, yeah, it's like a regular movie. Yeah. You got like an old grandma, like we're walking with a Walker and it will be like a cast around her leg and she'd be in a constant body for a turkeys, you know, and security's out there trying to shoo them away and everything is like, Jesus Christ, man. I mean, they're definitely territorial. Shamus: Man, that's crazy, Well, I guess he'll be out there then. It's spring, man. Spring's coming. Had to set the clocks forward last night. ⁓ was so upset about that this morning. Herbie: ⁓ yeah. I was in bed by like seven yesterday. was watching a bigfoot movie from like the 70s or something Shamus: I went to my buddy's 50th and it was the first time I can't remember the last time somebody just a man beers over there and it was red solo cups the keg and the thing of ice with the pump. ⁓ I was like, holy moly, dude. I was like, I can't remember the last time I did this. And of course, we've gotten so far away from it. Like when I first walked over and hit it, it was like super foamy. his brother came over and I was just like, dude, you tap this? He was like, yeah. So when? He was like 15 minutes before everybody got here. I'm like, I do it the night before, man. Yeah, you know, let it sit and then still stop telling people to pump it. Yeah. So maybe in the old guy, like every time somebody came over, they're like, I'm like, I'm just poor and I'm getting all foam. I said, OK, what is done is kind of stick your finger in there and like you just thought I told him the secret to life. Herbie: like that. Yeah, the big container, like you get like a big container. Just like fill that up first, man. Shamus: I said you have a pitcher and filled that up and got all that and after that it was good and I said I'd tell people like you know pump it just go you're good ⁓ but I keg beers I Don't remember being like that this morning. I was like, ⁓ and only had like two or three of them. Yeah, I was just like Herbie: Maybe it was an older keg or something like that or the line was maybe jacked up or something. Because for us, the kegs and stuff back in the day with the pump and everything was either like some parties or like when you're high school and stuff like that. like the party's out in the woods and everything. It was on the back of someone's truck. But after a while, we evolved because we actually have friends have beer misers. it's perfect taps. It's just. Shamus: Well, we all got jobs. Yeah, but yeah, I don't know. It always kind of tasted and not that it was bad or anything like that, but it's got like a different. Like I can drink two or three cans, of course, light and be fine or no or light and go to bed, wake up the next Corona Bud Light line. Keg beer hits. I forgot it hits a little different. So I woke up this morning. was like, oh, I remember that. Yeah, this is 1990. What to to about 2010. Because in the military, that's all we do. You know, get a keg and show up my buddy's house or something like that. And you know, at the bars, you know, they were just I mean, they taps and all that stuff. But after that, I just want the bottle or can beer. Herbie: That's how like, know, when we started hanging out with Bob, you know, he had like the basement, it was all done up, like, you know. dude. like bands, and he's got like a refrigerator that's painted like a Budweiser can, and they had to tap on it and everything. Wow, that thing was great. Shamus: You remember how ridiculous they were with that? It was set to like 30 30. Because that's the pinnacle coldness before the beer started to freeze. Like he actually sat there for like a month working on that out. And it was the coldest beer I ever had. Herbie: 2.5 degrees. Yep. Even have like that tape and stuff like that around the tubing so the lines bless him He still does it may God bless his heart and keep him man He literally this this our friend our friend Bob it literally had like he had like a party basement. It was a bar a stage for the band and everything is like the whole family's like music and ⁓ Yeah, man, you know, they had the It was literally a ⁓ kegerator on every floor of the house Shamus: Man, guys. you talking about Big Bomb Sound? You've never been, you've missed. Herbie: Fantastic. And then they made me one. was like, they, they had it for me in the garage. was so, so I was like, Oh, it was, was the best thing ever, man. And it had like a little bow on it. And it was like on wheels so can just wheel it wherever I have. So when I got it to the house, was just literally wheeling it all over the first floor. Cause I had like an extension cord on it so I can bring it from like to the living room, to the kitchen, to the back room, to outside. Oh, it's great. Shamus: should put a remote control on that. yeah. Herbie: That's like the best, man. Now it's like, so now kids, if, you know, if you're underage and stuff, you know, you're probably drinking and doing anyway, get rid of the red solo cups. Those are dead giveaways. Now the thing is just get those aluminum, those. Well, not the Yetis, but like everyone's doing the Yetis and stuff, but there's. Yeah, but like. Shamus: The Yeti. You're not cool unless you have a yeti man. You're not in these schools. they walk around with the other ones and are like, that's not a yeti. Herbie: But they're drinking, they're drinking like, you know, those honor Arnold Palmer's and like those tall cans stuff. I'm just talking about if you're, if you're just doing a keg and you have like a red solo cup, get the, uh, the company, the ball, they make like the, um, they're, red solo cups, basically the same design and everything, but they're aluminum. Oh, it's perfect though. It keeps your beers cold and everything. Who do you think told them about that? They started selling that while I went camping with my buddy. Shamus: yeah. That's all that recycles. Bob's got him. Yeah, he's got him at his Which are they? Are they more than a solo concert? Herbie: Like the sleeve, was like you could reuse them. I've, I've, re reused them and stuff because there's completely washable. That's why I told John about him for, for, for the wedding when he had the wedding and they had all those cups. was like. Shamus: ⁓ yeah, yeah, forgot about that. Herbie: I bought like a sleeve of it a Wawa for like Seven bucks and I think there was like ten of them in there. That's not bad Can't beat it at all Then when I took him camp in to my with my friends cuz they had campers and everything so I brought that to like what the hell is that? Yeah Yeah, it keeps everything nice cold. I Guess solo cuffs just you know, I got I got him in the Jeep man. Don't worry. got you bro. Don't worry. I got you My jeep is like the goddamn Batman utility belt thing. Anyway, it's cool Shamus: I'll go buy some. When you were telling that story about the deer earlier and I was just like, I think might be moving 15 miles an hour, but that's like a tractor trailer. But the weight you got. Holy moly, that thing is a brick with. Yeah, I'm on it. Herbie: It's like holding four. That's why I'm what a big brush guard and everything. can get like springtime now with all those bikers and stuff and just like on a gently play their Shamus: I saw two of them yesterday when I was coming back from my coffee walk. Herbie: if they all dress up like, what's his name? Shamus: And that's exactly what they're wearing, man. ⁓ God. They were wearing all that spandex stuff with the big egg shaped helmets and stuff. ⁓ I'm you guys realize you're only doing like 15 miles an hour, right? ⁓ Herbie: And especially because like they're like almost like our age or maybe a little bit older or younger and stuff like that if you wore outfits like that back in the day you're definitely getting your ass kicked Shamus: Listen, I'm Irish, so I can't wear anything like that. I look like a Ken doll. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: They like, yo, where where did you leave it at home? Like, where's it at? Yeah, she's got it. Herbie: Yeah, dude. Those outfits are the worst, man. Shamus: Yeah, and like I said, those people are just like, let's pick the most inconvenient roads on the planet for drivers to ride on. This is what we're doing. Herbie: We pay taxes, it's our fault. Shamus: I did ask the one trooper I work with about that and they were like, they got the right away. Unless it's like, like I said, the turnpike, they're not supposed to be on the turnpike to five. And he made like Route 130 and that kind of they have 70, 73. like on these all these roads, they have the right away. Herbie: ask him like how many how many people died from avoiding these bicycle people yeah a lot Shamus: That's why I asked her how many people are killed on bikes and she was like, ⁓ motorcycle or regular. I'm like regular. She's like a lot. I should ask him like how many drivers are killed by swerving to miss them. Because I don't serve. So I would know. I might hit that. I might hit the brake and let him go. But if I can, if I could lead across real quick with the passion door and get one or two of them. got you. ⁓ Herbie: Yeah. and Shamus: That's why I drive the the Subaru because people are like, God damn, And I'm like, it's my beater, man. That's my battle wagon. I would bounce some spikers off of that. What do matter to me? Herbie: Fantastic. And it's like, don't get me wrong. Everybody. like, I, know, bicycle people, they, you have your hobbies and stuff. That's cool. It's just like, there's also, you got to, and it's like, it's not just like one or two. like, it's, like a mess of like 40 and like maybe 15 or complete butt heads. Shamus: There's the douchey biker. I guess that's everything in life. I'm sure coffee people aren't all. ⁓ But you know, they're hard, douchey. Herbie: well like the uppity uppity yuppie type stuff like bro, come on, ⁓ Shamus: I mean, everything I've done, there's I've worked for a lot of with and for a lot of assholes. Yeah, is what it is. But let me catch it now. Herbie: Yeah, me too, be that speed, Steve Buscemi on like Billy Madison, where you had the list. ⁓ Shamus: That's exactly what it is. But damn it. I'm not I'm not coming with a gun, bro. I'll kind of like, know, we got it. I told my one buddy, he moved to Florida. I broke my heart when he did. I told him he was just like, hey, man, me and so and so are here. I'm going to keep him there. And he was like, no, because I was coming. I was just like, bro. Talk it now. Let's go. Yeah. And like, I I don't care. I would never do it at like a funeral or a wedding or somebody's retirement. Like, I just won't talk to you. I just won't deal with it. Don't let me catch you a Costco. Yeah. Because if you're with your wife and you're walking, I'm like, go tell her to take that shit to the car and you'll be with her in a minute. Yeah. This is only going to take me 30 seconds. And it's going to take me another 15 seconds to call the, you know, 911. Like, yeah, you got some guy passed out in the parking lot. Done. Or I might just get you in the bread aisle. wow. Night. But we're supposed to be positive from this. It's like I said, everybody, every group of people's got assholes. Herbie: Yeah. Well, like in the Sam's thing, I'd actually be like there at Costco. I'd be like that guy eating like the free cooked sausages and stuff like, ⁓ this is delicious. Shamus: My dad would always get me on Saturday, he'd like, hey man, you wanna go to lunch? I'm like, absolutely. Let me go to Sam's Club. He was like, hey man, grab a couple of them samples. I'm like, are you a bastard? know? Doesn't matter. Herbie: That's all I used to survive as a kid when you go shopping with your parents and stuff like that. Shamus: Yeah, but he used to tell me crap too and he would never go over to the sandwich So like you'd walk around like I one for my dad and of course the ladies just like really yeah I gotta throw another pizza bag on this goddamn microwave because you go into these I don't like I swear to crazy standing right there and of course he dipped down another aisle. Oh he did Yeah, what he didn't realize and he just kind of like she was like here. Oh I'm like this dude Not him. ⁓ God. ⁓ he was the equivalent. Have you ever watched it? Watch that TV show Titus and. What Stacey Keach as his dad? Yeah, that was. That was him. And like I said, he's he's the guy who. In the spring, that guy couldn't be happier when spring hit, man. Yeah, he we'd on the front deck, he had like one of those awnings that we'd put up every spring. Herbie: time ago. Shamus: Yeah, it'd be up all summer to October. Then we take it down in the winter. He put that up in the spring, man. And you see the neighbors out there like coming home from work on a Friday. You do that whistle. yeah. They all look and. Next thing you know, man, neighborhoods flooded with kids. Yeah, 20 dudes are up on the deck. Another 20 women are in my mom's house. Tea and beer and kids just running around like maniacs was great, man. Herbie: That's one thing, you know, like a community, like a neighborhood, like a nice neighborhood and stuff like that. It's just like one of the best things to be able to do. Shamus: that's right. Definitely. It was the American. Yeah. It's like I said, it was like Norman Rockwell. Every neighbor knew each other. Yeah. Everybody celebrate. Like my mom bought gifts for everybody in the neighborhood at Christmas time. You know, everybody hung out. Everybody bought like our Memorial Day thing. Like the one neighbor had a bigger yard and everybody else. And his yard was connected to the other neighbors yard. So they put the whole neighborhood was there. Memorial Day, Fourth of July. So, yeah, I had a pretty good man growing up. Like there was never. ⁓ one kid just standing in the street with a Nerf ball. If somebody came out with a Nerf ball, there was at least five or six. Yeah. Yeah. And we were we were getting it. Yeah. Hockey season, we had like the little my lack stuff and shit. And it was was good, man. It a good neighborhood to grow up in. Herbie: it is good man. Another reason I used to like when you're mentioning jailbreak I used to love jailbreak because like when I was like 10 I think I got like a ninja suit at Columbus farmers market. yeah so I was wearing a ninja suit and a grappling hook ⁓ playing manhunt. ⁓ course you know they never found me. Shamus: Oh, that's what it used to get so out of hand because we did it on like one block. Yeah. Like there wasn't like two or three, but it was one block and it was like one of them small blocks. Do we have people, you know, jumping into people's in trees, up on roofs? Like people were, the older we got, the more daring we got. Like it was ridiculous. My one neighbor across the street used to drive a semi truck for a living. And one day he, don't know what the deal was, but he had Herbie: grappling hook came in. Shamus: like the tractor part on the back of it. Somebody climbed up on that and fucking hit up on the roof of that and then fell off it when somebody found them because they went up on the other side. Herbie: Oh yeah, because there's no way you're caught. Yeah, you're killing the scene. Shamus: especially if you're the last one. Like we were doing all kinds of shit, man. Like I went up into my house. I was like, I'm gonna hide up in here and just watch this. You know, that kind of way for people to go. But like it was just there was kids everywhere, dude, and nobody. Like you'd just like, hop it, because we should just, you know, the one hop over the fence and like you're just being chased. And it was like that scene from Ferris Bueller. We're running through people's houses. Don't get up and just like, hey, you're like. People are just like, didn't, god damn, kids are playing jailbreak again. It was ridiculous. It was awesome, though. It was awesome. And then when you're younger, you just don't want to cough. But then the older you get, with the neighborhood girls, you're like, man, I hope I get picked on that team. And then we're definitely hiding together. Herbie: Yeah. That's the one thing I like from my town. Like we didn't have too many like girls in our town. Like was like our age and stuff. So was like, you knew, especially back then you would know, like there was like one cute girl in our town and like every like, you know, weekend night or whatever, like everyone's hanging out in her front porch would be like 60 bikes all like laying in front of her house. It was like, Oh yeah. Just ride through the neighborhood. Like there's all the bikes. Okay. This is our egg and out of her house. Shamus: they knew where everybody was back then. Herbie: But you know, that's like sometimes when you have like these like small quiet towns and stuff like that, you just find things to keep yourself occupied. Now it's like harder. I don't think it's like harder for kids. think it's just they don't. Yeah, yeah, that's like they don't want to do it. They have more of like, you thing with the TV and the videos and, you know, their phone and watching this other stuff and they don't really. Shamus: I was socialized. I wait to get out, Oh, yeah. But then every step I took in life was just like, OK, I went to high school my freshman year. Riverside wasn't a big town, but Delanco didn't have a high school. So Delanco and that's where I met Mike. Yeah. Some of the greatest people like, OK, there's new people here. Let's go talk to him. Let's see what's going on and made amazing friends. I joined the military. I was always the outgoing guy, you know, organizing parties and stuff like that. So like, I just don't. Because lot of people were just like, it was a different time back then. I get it. But I still just don't get how a human being nowadays would just rather, like we were talking about at the party, like sit on their cell phones. I think it was last episode. They sit on their cell phones and da da and not just, man, I'm shameless. What's going on? Or da da da da. Herbie: Especially if you're at a party man, like there's alcohol and stuff like come on man food come on Shamus: Yeah, that guy has got liquid courage right there. Get couple of those in here talk to anybody. Herbie: Yeah. There's always like that one guy at a wedding that's like, he's like a little mildly overweight. He might've peaked in high school, you know, he's got the tie off the shirts, like unbuttoned and stuff like that. Shamus: of the basketball team three years running in Seattle. Herbie: Yep. Just sweating like crazy. Just dancing like a jerk. God bless him. You know? Yeah. Just reliving high school years. Shamus: I never, my brother is one of those guys who's just like, Oh, and like makes fun of people like that to me. I'm like, man, that guy's letting loose, man. His life must really, there's a wedding. We're here to celebrate. Let's get this. Let's get a, I'm not doing that. I'm here. I'm here for, for that. You know what I mean? Let's check that out and I'm here to celebrate. So if that's how he wants to do it, man, get it. Yeah, I'm all about it. I love those people. Herbie: crazy fights are not like that man it's like oh geez you know because you know sometimes you might come across some people actually do like that stuff like they're they're a form of a good time is actually getting in some kind of crazy fight or something it's like I mean it's fun to watch everyone's like man Shamus: Yeah, but. Herbie: Not high school anymore, but that was like the thing for me, too. Like whenever there was a fight in high school, I was always the last one to see it. I like I come around the damn quarter. It would be broken up and everything. They're like, ⁓ my God. you see it? I'm like, No, I did not. Even like the girl fights. And I was like, you know, that's just like mortal combat right there. Shamus: Yeah, there are so much worse than dudes. Yeah, they fight. They rip out hair. ⁓ yeah. flying shirts and like Jesus. Herbie: It's like they lock up like rams and they just like hold on to each other's hair and they're like you let go no you let go Shamus: That when you break it up it looks like a beauty salon is having a yard sale because there's shit everywhere. Brushes, combs, fingernails, extensions, clavs ahead, bras, who just... Herbie: Yep. Someone's like, what the heck is that? The lip balm or chapstick is on the floor. Yes. Also. Dudes get into it, male, someone's bleeding, you know, there's not really a lot of like, you know, Yeah, it's nothing just like. ⁓ Shamus: This is the spoiling of war. Hell yeah. Yeah, there's no less to it. Give a quick mop, a quick mop and we're Herbie: That's it. even then, they can be kinda cool afterwards and stuff, you know what mean? Girls, that thing will just last forever. Like, oh Jesus, that, you know. It's like the Game of Thrones, man. Versus Lannisters versus Starks. That's just gonna go on forever. Shamus: yeah, that was another thing I used look forward to in the spring. Girls would start wearing less clothes. Some of them were just like, carrying that winter weight still. Shit. Then you look down and like, can someone buy me shit? Herbie: Yeah, go big fan Like I ⁓ my who am I to judge? ⁓ Shamus: Howdy. Herbie: I'll just order another one from off Amazon Shamus: See if I can program this into my phone. Herbie: I have like four remote controls underneath my couch from Amazon, man. They're like, dude, this guy needs another one? Yeah, the universal remote. Shamus: But as I said, the universe is always against me because, know, Thanksgiving eat a lot. Christmas, you always eat a lot. Thanksgiving eat mostly on Thanksgiving Day, but Christmas over the period of Christmas time, you know, different parties, stuff like that. know, people are giving you gifts. You're just constantly cookies. And Christmas day eat a lot. So then you start to kind of it's winter time. So not really, you know, doing as much and you're not as I try to go to the gym, but it's just not working. But then when you say, you know, springtime, you're like, yeah, here we go. And then it's like, bang, Easter. Here's a whole this here more candy and here's an Easter basket. And, know, we're doing the ham and we're doing the mashed potato. I'm just like, my God. Then when you get done with that, it's like barbecue season. And people are just at least that's more hot dog. I try to eat more barbecue chicken than anything else or steak. But, man, it just to me, it's a never ending cycle. And I'm all about it. Oh, yeah. Give me that. Give me that. Herbie: Let me answer this like real quick because I know we probably like pressure time or stuff, but at any barbecue, what is the one food that you will just not touch? Shamus: I'm not a big. I love it. I can't. And I hate cutting it off the car, but like corn on a cob. Oh, really? Yeah. Because my teeth are like when I chew into it, like the shit gets it's like popcorn. It stuck in there. And then nobody's ever got toothpicks at these things. Because I tell Rita, Rita brings it from her farm and that is the best stuff on the planet. But like, I'll go to her stand and bite. I won't eat it at Bob's house because I don't want to walk around like her. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: You know, when you smile, looks like fingers are coming out of your teeth because you got like all them little tabs or whatever they call them. You know? Yeah. So I'll go to a stand by him. I'll bring him here, boil him up and then I'll cut it off the company. Like because I love fresh, fresh fruit is a man. Vegetables are amazing now. Yeah. And I love vegetables. I can like my brother hates them and he'll put like cheese on every me. I can just take a bag of frozen broccoli, throw it in the microwave, turn around, eat a pound of it. I love it. So, yeah, corn on the cob is probably, I hate like mess, especially when somebody does ribs and there's way too much barbecue sauce on them. So I try to stick with the non-messy stuff, know, keep the image up. That kind of thing. What about you? Herbie: the one thing I hate and it's it's it's it's and it's like listeners they I'm sure they all can assimilate with this it's stuff called Ambrosia yes it's basically you know what is it like Shamus: Is that that marshmallow? With like pineapple? Herbie: Yeah, my definition is it's almost like it's always like that one grandma that's starting to lose it, you know, and she always used to be the one that would bake the pineapple upside down cake and all the other stuff. So pretty much all the leftovers from all like seven different desserts that she used to make the jello molds and all that crap. It's like the leftovers of all that. And then they just put it in a big, like crystal dish and then top it more with whipped cream. So it's got like, you know, pineapple chunks in. I'm like, ⁓ Please know. Like I said, it's almost like the leftovers from every other goddamn dessert that they got out there. I just get like everything like, know, it's just like it goes from like, you know, pineapples to like, you know, the cherries to jello to oranges. Yeah. And you're like, yeah, the little Mandarin oranges. Shamus: It's whipped cream, marshmallow, apple, cherry. It's like the desserts version of meatloaf. I can't remember the last time I've seen it. I think somebody in my family used to make it, like you said, like an elderly. ⁓ I can't remember the last time I've seen Somebody bought that up at work the other day. can't remember the last time I've seen Where the hell was the last time you've seen it or had it? Herbie: There was always that one grandma. ⁓ my God. like, ⁓ Jesus. It's like, I didn't, I knew nothing about this before. So like I had like an old girlfriend and her grandma would make it. And like, I'm sure listeners, everyone can just simulate or ⁓ say that, you know, when grandma made that, everyone had to have it because grandma made it. Shamus: Absolutely, you couldn't send her home heartbroken because nobody ate it. Herbie: And then like all grandma's ambrosias. And that's another real weird reason. Like to is like, it's like a weird amalgamation of like all these ingredients and they got to give it like a fancy name like ambrosia to make it sound a little like more appetizing. And then of course I got to put in a big crystal dish and then top it with whipped cream to make it look more appealing. So I never knew this stuff existed. So when they told me about this, I was like, ⁓ God, no. And I saw like pineapple chunks and I was like, Nope, no, I'm good. I'm good. So. Shamus: You know I'm making that shit next Herbie: Thank God. So our, hasn't been at other barbecues lately and stuff like that. But, like people like that that are listening right now about ambrosia, like they may love grandma's ambrosia, but they're not eating other people's ambrosia. It's almost, I swear to God, it's, like the fruit cake of barbecues. You know what I mean? So if someone made you a fruit cake and you're like, Mary Chris, why are you like, thanks. Oh, no, no. Shamus: I'm thinking I'm going to get one next year. Give it a shot. We'll do it on the podcast. Herbie: I'll do it. I don't think it's ever going to go like it's probably be like, know, like if the zombie apocalypse ever happens, it's going be like that summer sausage stuff. Cheese whiz. Yeah, I mean, there's only wrong. I'd live off of that, but it's just like, you know, and cheese whiz and fricking fruitcake. God, no, that'll spoil. That'll spoil. ⁓ is like, you know, like it just lasts forever. Shamus: I love summer sausage. Don't forget about Ambrosia. Before we wrap this up, which is your two favorite barbecues? Herbie: ⁓ like barbecue chicken or anything like that. And I'm, the same way, man. I'll do like a dry rub instead of like, you know, seeping with barbecue sauce. like, I'm good. No, thank you. And of course, like any type of like potatoes or like mom's a potato salad to shrimp in. I love, I love corn on the cob, but I, there is, you know, that price, but I do bring a lot. gotta bring it for you next time. And like, you know, the little, ⁓ the floss picks. Shamus: I have a ton of them here I just always forget to take with me. Herbie: But there's sometimes too, the parties that we go to for these barbecues, there's actually, you use the bathroom real quick, they have a little dish of them. So I'm like, perfect. Yes. Shamus: Really? Never noticed that. Maybe from the bag. Yeah. By the time I get to the bathroom. Oh, yeah. You always got to hold it. You don't want to break the seal. Especially in that place because the beer flows like goddamn the flock of Capistrano. Herbie: Yeah, so I feel like Augustus Gloop that jumped into the damn freaking chocolate. You're like, yes! Shamus: But that's why every time I look at it's why I don't don't get me wrong. It's always clean and all that stuff like that. But when I look at that pool, one of those parties, I'm like now because I haven't seen any of you people go to the bathroom at the last hour. But every time I get up to get a beer, you're getting a beer and I piss three times already. So do the math. Herbie: Yeah, it's like, no, no, no. Shamus: I gotta go with you. I like potatoes, any kind of potato salad, but it can't be like the store bought shit. The stuff you buy in a plastic container shop, right? I didn't realize this either. Each shop, right? Has like a different family like Ekenoff or whatever. I forget which one is Sally's. Yeah, they make a really good potato salad, but potato salad. And I got to go like as much as we make fun of him and we're going to have him on the show. Hey, man. Yeah. That dude can cook a steak like nobody's busy. That guy electric steak and drum. So that's it. Yeah. Well, he makes a steak, man. I'm. Oh, yeah. Because because he'll be like, hey, man, we're going to buy something. I'll buy the steak. You just show up and cook the shit. Yeah, that guy makes it great. So when Bobby does a steak and the Bobby potatoes out. Yeah. So yeah, I can't wait, man. I can't wait for that. I was the first party. Well, I mean, they're going to do the. St. Patrick's Day thing. Did he do the Kentucky Derby laser? Herbie: No, the Kentucky Dairy Reserve for the lobster fest. Shamus: Yeah, that's the same thing. It's the same day, right? Yeah. Okay. Herbie: then it just starts snow, snowballing in there. I'm sure the listeners too, I'm sure you guys have little parties and stuff that you do and you know. Shamus: Well, I'm gonna do a couple here. Like I said, maybe you're off next weekend, right? Yeah. And we might have to pull the grill out. If we have some guests and stuff like that, maybe get a couple of beers and some hot dogs, hamburgers in this before we start doing this. So. I don't know, man, I just so glad the winter is over. Herbie: Yeah, yeah, definitely it's over, man. It's just... Bring it on. Shamus: You know what else is over? This podcast, brother. We got to get going. Anything going on this week? ⁓ Herbie: you work, YouTube videos and sleeping as early as I can cause I'll be beat. Alright. And then just drink some beers or whatever. And hang out with Seamus. Shamus: Yeah, I'm just gonna, just get through this week, man, go to the gym and ⁓ on my half days, hopefully it's nice to go out there, start this yard together for the winter or the spring, start pulling stuff out of the shed, get the grill ready and all that stuff. And like I said, maybe we'll grill next weekend. Like ⁓ I said, we got a couple guests I think coming in next weekend. Get it done, son. Get it done. All right, everybody. Thanks for listening. Always a pleasure to have you. And hopefully we'll see you on the next one. Herb, say goodbye. Herbie: Yeah, get it done! See you guys later.
