Transcript
- 0:07I'm Millie Condon. Welcome back.
- 0:09Hour number two, it's the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 0:11Trenton can with an hour to go before we turn things over off
- 0:14the bench. Coming up at 2:00.
- 0:16Lucas and Sean take you until 5. Let's get to Chicago, shall we,
- 0:21Steven? I'm simple.
- 0:21Still to come this hour on Nebraska and Iowa, but Centurion
- 0:25Stone of Iowa sponsors Cappy's weekly spot.
- 0:28And here he is. Oh, Capper.
- 0:29Happy Thanksgiving. How are you?
- 0:32Happy Thanksgiving to you guys. I hope you're all doing.
- 0:35Well. Absolutely are Cap.
- 0:37Thank you for asking. So the Bears, the beat goes on.
- 0:42They've they've done it again. This team sits right now eight
- 0:45and three on top of the north trip to Philadelphia.
- 0:48Coming up, Philadelphia's kind of been hit and miss as far as
- 0:52you know. One week you watch him, they
- 0:53think that they're absolutely legitimate threat to to repeat
- 0:57next time you watch him, you think, bam, this team's got some
- 1:00problems with the Bears. However, Cappy, when you watch
- 1:03this team beat Pittsburgh last week, your main take away or
- 1:06couple of takeaways with the Pittsburgh win were what?
- 1:11Find a way. You were missing minimum of
- 1:14seven starters. I mean, and if you count 2 guys
- 1:19that got injured in the first quarter in that game that
- 1:22started the game, I mean, you're you had no TJ Edwards, you had
- 1:27no Tremaine Edmonds, you had no Noah Sewell, no Jaylen Johnson,
- 1:32no Kyler Gordon, no Theo Benedet.
- 1:35And then you had other guys that have been out like Terrell Smith
- 1:38hasn't played this year. He would have been a starter in
- 1:41that situation. And then Stevenson and Hippolyte
- 1:43went out pretty quickly into the game and they started the game.
- 1:47So you're down, whatever you want to call it, 789 of your top
- 1:51guys and somehow you found a way.
- 1:55I mean, if you'd have told me that DeMarco Jackson was going
- 1:58to wear the green dot for people wondering what that means, he's
- 2:02calling the defensive signals on his helmet.
- 2:05He's and what Dennis Allen wants.
- 2:07The Michael Jackson was a practice squad guy released by
- 2:10the New. Orleans Saints and he had 15.
- 2:13Tackles, so there's something special going on there and
- 2:17whether they win this week or not there's it doesn't take away
- 2:21from the fact that this thing has completely been flipped in
- 2:24terms of culture and there's no reason they can't go into Philly
- 2:28and win. Doesn't mean they will, but I'm
- 2:30just worried about one game at a time find a way.
- 2:33Caleb throws 3 touchdowns and game on.
- 2:36You know, just real quick, DeMarco Jackson had 9 tackles on
- 2:39the year. I had no idea he had that many
- 2:41in that game. What a game.
- 2:43Don't love those guys you mentioned.
- 2:46There's something. Go ahead, Cap.
- 2:49No, I was going to say, it's just crazy to think, hey, man,
- 2:53you're going to get your opportunity to not only dress
- 2:56for the game, you're going to be among the leading tacklers in
- 3:00the NFL this weekend. And he would have said, OK, no
- 3:03shock. And guess what?
- 3:04Shock. Cap, you mentioned all those
- 3:07injuries. Linebacker crew completely
- 3:09pulled out with the quick turn around with this game Friday
- 3:12against Philly. Did that go hand in hand knowing
- 3:15that if these guys is going to be close, if they go out there,
- 3:18though, the likelihood they're not going to be available for
- 3:20Philadelphia, does that go there?
- 3:22And do you anticipate how many of those guys being able to be
- 3:24back and be out there Friday in Philly?
- 3:28I think you're going to see Jaylen Johnson.
- 3:30I think you're going to see Kyler Gordon.
- 3:33So I'll be surprised if they don't play.
- 3:36I don't know what the deal is with TJ Edwards.
- 3:39If he's going to play. I would hope that he does.
- 3:43But I mean, he's coming off a hand surgery and he gets hurt
- 3:47again and he's been sidelined 3 different times this season.
- 3:51If you remember, he got hurt in training camp with a hamstring
- 3:54and then he came off of that and re injured the hamstring and was
- 3:59out and now he's back again after having hand surgery.
- 4:04So they got to make sure that he is ready to go when they put him
- 4:09out there. He's got to be able to last the
- 4:11rest of the season if you want to have a shot because he is a
- 4:13key, key player. No doubt about a cap and and
- 4:17right now they sit 8 and three. They sit on top of the division.
- 4:20Obviously still have to play Green Bay twice.
- 4:23They've got Detroit at the end of the year at San Francisco.
- 4:26Won't be easy. Cleveland probably.
- 4:28That's the one you feel pretty good about.
- 4:31South Cap. Where is your audience as far as
- 4:35this Bears team? I'm guessing that most of them,
- 4:37although optimistic prior to the season, didn't see that this
- 4:40coming. It's particularly where they sit
- 4:43as they head into the Thanksgiving weekend, which is
- 4:45right on top of the division. What's kind of the mood are,
- 4:48are, are folks buying in or still kind of tepid at this
- 4:51point? Some are buying in and some are
- 4:55extremely tepid or almost negative, which I find
- 4:59ridiculous. I'm not telling you they're
- 5:01going to win the Super Bowl. I never said that I picked them
- 5:04ten and seven because I thought this coach is real.
- 5:08I believe in Caleb Williams and there are some here that for
- 5:13whatever reason, they're afraid to put their heart out there.
- 5:15They're afraid to push their chips in and go, man, my team is
- 5:19really good. If I had told you the Wednesday
- 5:22show that we did so they gave up 52 points in a 5221 loss to the
- 5:27Detroit Lions that they are now going to go 8 and one the next
- 5:319, you guys would have said OK, this guy's an idiot, why do we
- 5:34have him on our show? They were owed 2 at.
- 5:37That, and that's what they've done.
- 5:38Yeah. That's exactly correct.
- 5:41Caleb Williams, it's up and down.
- 5:43It's inconsistent. The highs are incredibly high.
- 5:46The lows are disappointing, certainly.
- 5:48Does it feel like it's at least smoothing out?
- 5:50There's still those stretches, those throws, little sloppy with
- 5:53the foot work. Why did he make that read those
- 5:56kinds of things. But do you feel like at minimum
- 5:58it is smoothing out and those those peaks and valleys aren't
- 6:00quite as high and low anymore? Oh, 1000%, yeah.
- 6:06I mean, I don't understand some of the national narrative that
- 6:11goes out there and says, yeah, I don't know about this guy.
- 6:14We had one of our beat writers in town doing an interview and
- 6:18he said something to the effect of, yeah, he's the 4th best
- 6:22quarterback out of the 6th that went in the first round.
- 6:25And I'm trying to think to myself 4th best quarterback.
- 6:30Are you kidding me? I'm track to throw for 3900 and
- 6:35some yards If he has, you know one game that goes above
- 6:38average, he could end up over 4000 yards.
- 6:42His teams won eight of nine. He's LED 5 game-winning drives
- 6:46down points in the final two minutes never happened in
- 6:50history. The franchise end up thinking so
- 6:53you're telling me you would take OK Drake makes having a great
- 6:56year, great year. Was rookie of the year last
- 6:59year. Correct.
- 7:01And Daniels has had a horrible year this year.
- 7:03Horrible. He's been injured and he hasn't
- 7:05played well and his team is up the track.
- 7:08So you're telling me Bo Nicks, you're telling me who else
- 7:12panics? He would be the. 4th No way
- 7:15look. That's my point.
- 7:17Yeah, I'm a Bo Nicks guy. I mean, Denver's my team.
- 7:20I love Bo Nicks. I'd rather have Caleb Williams
- 7:23at this point. And I like Bo Nicks.
- 7:25Yes, and yes, Daniels is. I mean, you had a great rookie
- 7:28year. Need to see more this year.
- 7:29I think he's got it. Drake Mays off to a terrific
- 7:32start on a bad football with an easy schedule.
- 7:36No, I I don't think that's fair. I don't think your your guy's
- 7:38fair. I still think that if you asked
- 7:42Ben Johnson who he would take if he was, he wasn't here then when
- 7:46we drafted him. But if you said, hey, Ben,
- 7:49you're in charge of the draft, we're redrafting 2024.
- 7:53I think Ben would say Caleb Williams.
- 7:54I do. Gets a whole lot deeper now and
- 7:58we know what's in front of them starting Friday.
- 8:01Does this team have it in them? I mean, you, you sound like you
- 8:03definitely believe Cappy. You normally believe you're a,
- 8:05you're an optimistic fan out there.
- 8:07But what you've seen, what they've dealt with, the way they
- 8:09got through it. And boy, those locker room
- 8:11speeches, they get me fired up with Ben Johnson in the locker
- 8:13room afterwards. You believe at minimum this is a
- 8:16playoff team and and that it's not unsustainable what they're
- 8:19doing even as a schedule gets more difficult.
- 8:23I'm not telling you that they're going to go in and beat Philly
- 8:26in Philly, then win at Green Bay and then come back and beat
- 8:30Cleveland and we'll blink and go, whoa, they're 11 and three.
- 8:34I just take them as, you know, I've always said that to you
- 8:37guys. I take them one game at a time,
- 8:41period. That's just how I do it.
- 8:43That's probably the coach in me. Hey, guys, we're just worried
- 8:46about this game. I don't worry about the next
- 8:49game. Like my neighbor who I was just
- 8:51talking to when you guys called, he's like, oh God, we lose to
- 8:54Philly. Then we got to go to Green Bay
- 8:55and we could lose that game and Miles Garrett could be a game
- 8:57wrecker and we could lose that. I'm like, Al, dude, slow down.
- 9:02Can we just play these one game at a time?
- 9:05Let's see how we are with injury.
- 9:07Like if I told you at the beginning of the year, you're
- 9:09going to play Baltimore, no Lamar Jackson, you're going to
- 9:13play Cincinnati, no Joe Burrow, you're going to play Pittsburgh,
- 9:16no Aaron Rodgers and on and on and on.
- 9:20You would have never believed it.
- 9:21That's why I just one a week. Let's see where we are.
- 9:25Try to go to 1 and O this week. Let's get to let's get to
- 9:29baseball cap. You know, I had one that
- 9:32somebody asked me to ask you and I will.
- 9:34And I got 1 selfishly because, well, I'll get to that in a
- 9:37second. Kyle Schwarber.
- 9:39Is there a chance that the Cubs at least kick the tires on the
- 9:44on as good ADH as there is in the game?
- 9:46Any chance of a reunion with Schwarber?
- 9:50I think that they absolutely have interest because Tom
- 9:54Ricketts has always said, and I like Tom a lot as a guy, I
- 9:58disagree with him that you should.
- 10:02We're just trying to break even. That's what he has consistently
- 10:06said. Well, my point is, Tom, it is a
- 10:11public trust. I heard Justin Ishbia, who's
- 10:14buying into the White Sox and eventually will be the owner,
- 10:17Justin Ishbia said the other day in an interview.
- 10:21And I thought it was magnificently well said.
- 10:23He said, look, I'm not going to be the owner of the White Sox.
- 10:26I'm going to be the steward of the White Sox, he said.
- 10:30And that means people are putting me their trust in me
- 10:34that I will be a good steward of this franchise.
- 10:37But I thought, wow, that's a pretty cool way to look at it.
- 10:41I believe it is a public trust when you buy a team.
- 10:44It is now the Mccaskey's extra only business.
- 10:47That's how they make a living. A little different.
- 10:50But in baseball, Tom Ricketts is a billionaire because he's
- 10:54really smart. Tom Ricketts will could walk
- 10:57away from the Cubs and literally donate them to charity, and he's
- 11:01not going to need A tag day to go feed his family.
- 11:04So I think to say, yeah, I just want to break even.
- 11:09No, I don't want to hear that. I want to hear All I care about
- 11:12is winning championships. Maybe you can't afford Shohei
- 11:15Otani, but you can absolutely afford to push your chips in,
- 11:20especially a team that went to the playoffs to the second round
- 11:23last year and lost in the deciding game five.
- 11:26I don't understand how you sit in the stands to look around and
- 11:29go, this is amazing here. Yeah, I don't want to buy that
- 11:32guy because I don't want to spend the money.
- 11:34I don't get that. The other one, the one that I
- 11:36have cap, is I don't understand why and they may not be doing
- 11:40this. This might just be all Internet
- 11:41chatter on Twitter, etcetera. Are they really looking to
- 11:45replace Matt Shaw or upgrade Matt Shaw at third base?
- 11:48I'm not sure. There isn't up.
- 11:49He's had one year. There's good third baseman,
- 11:51sure, but are they really trying to replace Matt Shaw at third
- 11:56base after what everybody saw with their own two eyes in his
- 11:58rookie campaign? I I'm not saying that that
- 12:03they're sitting in their meetings going we've got to
- 12:05replace him. I don't believe that.
- 12:07I do believe that they are looking OK.
- 12:11How much would Alex Bregman cost?
- 12:13Are we going to use Matt Shaw in a deal?
- 12:16There's a number of ways that they've got to look at this,
- 12:19what they want to do. Like I'm hearing that the
- 12:22Marlins are after Michael King. The Marlins, Well, when you do a
- 12:27little more digging on it, someone told me, yeah, they are
- 12:30because they can then trade Edward Cabrera or Sandy Alcantra
- 12:35to basically, if it's Alcantra, pay for the Michael King signing
- 12:39and then trade that picture that they're getting rid of to go get
- 12:43what they need in the off field. So they have to mix and match
- 12:46and move money. The Cubs don't.
- 12:49But if you're putting Matt Shaw in a deal to go get Edward
- 12:53Cabrera or whoever that guy is out there, I could understand
- 12:57it. But then you got to sign Alex
- 12:58pregnant and he's got to be big money.
- 13:01Bullpen, you know, we've talked about it already a couple of
- 13:03times, Veterans kind of filling in the gaps, maybe figure out a
- 13:07few things and then you see that Helsley very well could be a
- 13:10possibility for the Cubs. Do you like the idea of going
- 13:13out there? Probably going to have to spend
- 13:14pretty bring big to bring in a closer, certainly with the
- 13:17background of Ryan Helsley. Yeah, I like Ryan Helser.
- 13:22I think he's a good pitcher. I've seen him give it up.
- 13:25I've seen him be really, really good.
- 13:27But if you're going to throw multiple arms into that role,
- 13:31Ryan Helsley, Daniel Palencia, I don't know who else they're
- 13:34planning on bringing in. They Steinfeld Maytown, who's
- 13:37very good, had a 279 this year between the Cardinals and
- 13:43Rangers. Texas Rangers.
- 13:44Yeah. Name You've got to upgrade your
- 13:47bullpen. You have to, because if you're
- 13:50seriously thinking about trying to win the World Series, you
- 13:55have got to be better than you were.
- 13:56You just do. What's it going to take for a
- 13:59team to knock off the Dodgers Speaking of winning the World
- 14:01Series cap? I mean, I know they can't, at
- 14:03least I don't think they can win all of them.
- 14:06They're they're doing what they take to ensure that they're
- 14:08going to be in the hunt. But but is, is, is this a team
- 14:12that, you know, get used to it because they're going to be here
- 14:15year after year after year? Look, they're going to spend
- 14:22until the rules of the game change.
- 14:24I don't know if you guys read the Athletic article on Hal
- 14:27Steinbrenner today, but I highly recommend everybody read it.
- 14:31Yeah, because he did an interview, a teleconference,
- 14:34like a Zoom call with a bunch of media.
- 14:36And the question that was asked to Hal Steinbrenner was, is it
- 14:41fair to say you guys made a profit in 2025?
- 14:46And he his quote is, you can look it up for yourself.
- 14:49He said, no, it's not fair or accurate to say we made a
- 14:53profit. And then somebody I respect at
- 14:56MLB who's a friend of mine, he text me, he's listening to me
- 15:00talk about this. And I blasted Hal Steinbrenner
- 15:04and he said, you're wrong on this one.
- 15:07I saw the books. The Yankees lost money in 2025.
- 15:11Well, if the New York Yankees are losing money, then I don't
- 15:14think they know what they're doing operating their business
- 15:17A&B. If that is true, the franchise
- 15:21value in 2021, because I looked it up with $5.5 billion, the
- 15:27franchise value now is $8.2 billion.
- 15:31So let's also factor in that the amount of your asset as
- 15:36appreciated incredibly well. So I don't want to hear that the
- 15:41Yankees feel like, yeah, we he even said that they would
- 15:44support a salary cap. Yes.
- 15:46Good stuff, Capper. Appreciate it, buddy.
- 15:49We'll see about that salary cap at 2027.
- 15:51It's going to be an interesting year to say the very least.
- 15:55What are you doing for Thanksgiving?
- 15:56What are you doing for Thanksgiving?
- 15:59The first year we're not hosting, my son and
- 16:01daughter-in-law, my grandkids are hosting.
- 16:04We're going to their house and my son's like a pro level chef
- 16:09that I mean, he could do that for a living if he wanted.
- 16:11So we're having dinner with them.
- 16:13You working Friday? Yes, I'll be on 6:00 to 9:30.
- 16:17We're going to go a little longer because we're leading
- 16:19into bears prey. Good stuff, gap.
- 16:22We'll talk to you in your normal spot next Wednesday.
- 16:24Thanks for being flexible. Happy Thanksgiving, buddy.
- 16:28Thankful for you guys and thankful for all the people that
- 16:30I hear from that listen to me with you guys.
- 16:33I love being part of your show. That's great, Kappa, right back.
- 16:35Thank you. Take care.
- 16:36Thanks, Kapp. Good to talk to David Kaplan as
- 16:39we check in with our buddy Albert in Chicago and he joins
- 16:42us each and every Wednesday and he's brought to us by our
- 16:45friends at Centurion Stone of Iowa.

- 16:58it be inside the house or outside of the house, give them

- 17:07natural stone to accent your inside or you're outside.

- 17:19combinations. You can see some of the work
- 17:21that they've done and where they've done it on the website
- 17:23centurionstoneofiowa.com. You can visit the show room, the
- 17:28showroom again, 5525 NE 22nd St. in Des Moines.
- 17:33We'll take a time out, catch up with our buddy Sip coming up on
- 17:36the other side. What do you think before we go
- 17:38to break, since we're talking Bears with Kathy, what's what's
- 17:42the ceiling as far as regular season, knowing what they got
- 17:46left? I know Capco likes to go game by
- 17:48game, game one game at a time. Not us when when you look at it,
- 17:54Philadelphia and Green Bay on the road, then Cleveland and
- 17:57Green Bay at home at San Fran versus Detroit.
- 18:01If they get if they went 2, are they in?
- 18:03I think they're in with 10, don't you?
- 18:05I think so, yeah. I think 10 and seven gets them
- 18:07in. Is the upside anything higher
- 18:10though than three and three? I don't think so.
- 18:12With that trend, you split with Green Bay, you get Cleveland.
- 18:16And then one more. And then one more.
- 18:18That means either sweeping the Packers.
- 18:20Or winning in Philadelphia. Beating Detroit at the end of
- 18:24the season, golf outdoors, Not exactly a strength for him.
- 18:29And he went in San Francisco. Yes, I yeah, I think he can.
- 18:36But suddenly if you lose these next two weeks, lose to Philly
- 18:39and get beat up, I think this is going to be a dangerous.
- 18:42What's going to be dangerous for the fans?
- 18:44Because they'll think that it's, you know, it's come off the
- 18:46rails. I knew it.
- 18:47This was a fake team fool's gold.
- 18:49I bought into it. I shouldn't have.
- 18:51I know better. Because you lose these next two,
- 18:55you know which they're going to be undertogs, obviously Philly
- 18:58and at Green Bay. And then you got Cleveland
- 19:01coming to town, Miles Garrett off the edge and a weird, ugly
- 19:05game. And it's cold and it's snowy and
- 19:07it's what you think December football is.
- 19:09And all of a sudden it's 1310 in the middle of the fourth
- 19:11quarter. It could be.
- 19:11That sounds like the score. That's very reasonable.
- 19:14And a bounce goes as there and suddenly that when that losing
- 19:17streak goes to three. Then you host Green Bay and.
- 19:20Then it's Green Bay and then in almost a must win situation at
- 19:22home against the Packers. So he's not in the barn yet?
- 19:26And that's a Saturday game. That is, yes.
- 19:29That's the first day of the college football, the Friday
- 19:32night. But the first full day of
- 19:33College Football Playoffs is Saturday the 20th.
- 19:37So Saturday the 20th, there's two games that day.
- 19:40What's the other one? Do you?
- 19:41Know Eagles at Commanders. So one of them would be 331 of
- 19:47them would be 7:30. I'm guessing I.
- 19:49Think that's the way they've done it in the past.
- 19:51So one of them, I mean, if they go by time zones, the Eagles
- 19:54would play at 4:30 or 8:30. I think you're going to get the
- 19:58Green Bay game at, I think Green Bay.
- 20:00Chicago is Saturday night. And that's certainly at the more
- 20:03important. Game at Soldier Field, yeah.
- 20:05Commanders have lost, what, six in a row?
- 20:08At least, Early told us earlier. They're beating your Broncos.
- 20:10No, they're not. It's.
- 20:11Not going to happen. It's not going to happen.
- 20:12I think Sir Tan is back. I think, yeah, absolutely.
- 20:16Best cover corner of the league? Yeah, that goes a long ways.
- 20:18Doesn't it? Defensive player of the year
- 20:19last year, Yeah. I'd say that's an upgrade.
- 20:21We'll take a time out. We'll head over to Lincoln,
- 20:23catch up with Sip next, huskerillustrated.com.
- 20:27We'll get his thoughts on the game.
- 20:29Well, not the game, but it's pretty big game from where we
- 20:32sit. It's the heroes game.
- 20:33Miller and Condon talking sports with you.
- 20:35And we're glad you're with us on the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 20:40It's time for SIP. Steven M Simple talks with
- 20:45myself and Ken on Nebraska football.
- 20:48I mean, I have a radio show, we have callers.
- 20:50I pay attention to my Twitter notifications and all that.
- 20:54There's definitely some frustration.
- 20:55We talk Cornhuskers, and you never know what else is going to
- 20:59come up with 30 years on the Nebraska beat.
- 21:05Here's Steven M Simple. As long as they're paying me to
- 21:07talk, I'm just going to keep doing it.
- 21:10By 1:30, right on the button. Miller in Condon, glad you're
- 21:13with us on the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 21:15Wherever you are listening. We're grateful that you are
- 21:18coming up at the top of the hour off the bench.
- 21:21We'll get to Lucas and Sean in here from 2:00 until 5:00.
- 21:25Let's head to Lincoln. The Hawks will head to Lincoln,
- 21:27take on Nebraska. It's 11:00 in the morning.
- 21:30CBS has the TV. If you're not in front of ATV,
- 21:33you can flip it over to News Radio 1040.
- 21:35WHO the home of the Hawks. Let's get Stephen M in here.
- 21:39Sip. Good to talk to you.
- 21:40Yeah. Happy Thanksgiving to you and
- 21:42yours. How are you?
- 21:42Stephen M Oh. Good.
- 21:46How are you guys? Doing doing pretty well doing
- 21:48OK. So I want to go back before we
- 21:49look forward to this game. The Penn State game obviously
- 21:52didn't go their way. I know that the players and the
- 21:55coaches really didn't want to talk much about it with a short
- 21:58week etcetera want to very quickly move on.
- 22:00I got the sense though, sip, correct me if I'm wrong, that
- 22:04rule thought then wasn't too pleased that his team was maybe
- 22:08out physical, then got pushed around and maybe sent that
- 22:11message to his team that that they were pushed around and
- 22:15should be embarrassed. I mean I'm not sure.
- 22:17Is that over the top? Was that kind of the take away
- 22:20from from post game Penn State? Well.
- 22:23Not you don't kidding. Not really.
- 22:26I mean, it was you got, I think you got the first part of it
- 22:29right. They just wanted to move on.
- 22:32Yeah, I mean, it kind of here's what I guess the way the way I
- 22:37put it is this. I mean, he didn't have to tell
- 22:41his guys that that's what happened.
- 22:44They know they were getting it was No, it wasn't.
- 22:47I don't think he had to say much about it to his guys.
- 22:52It was it was a bludgeoning and and kind of weird.
- 22:58It's a kind of a weird dynamic. Everybody just kind of was like,
- 23:00OK, that happened. We got to move on that.
- 23:03That's what was most striking to me.
- 23:05There was a great headline in the Omaha World Herald usually
- 23:08have it was something along the lines of teams usually have a 24
- 23:14hour rule rule had a 24 minute rule.
- 23:18Like they just, he just came to the post game and said
- 23:21basically, look, that happened, but we got to turn our full
- 23:24attention to Iowa. So it was kind of odd.
- 23:28It was very odd. Flush that one, move on and get
- 23:31ready for this one that has not gone Nebraska's way very often.
- 23:35Iowa hasn't lost in Lincoln since 2011.
- 23:38Won nine of the last 10. Iowa comes in OK Bad performance
- 23:43for 3/4 last week against Michigan State.
- 23:46Find a way to get the win against a winless team in the
- 23:48conference. Kind of feels like one of those
- 23:50games where, I don't know, fan bases sometimes.
- 23:53Have a lot of bravado this week. Don't see a lot of it on either
- 23:56side. Both teams, both fan bases.
- 23:58Maybe a little bit upset with their squads going into the
- 24:00match up, Yeah. Definitely.
- 24:03Over here, yeah. 37 to 10. I mean, I, it's the odd, it's an
- 24:10odd sort of the conversations over here become odd.
- 24:18I mean, I at this point in my life, I basically need a
- 24:21psychiatrist to deal with it. I, I mean, you'll hear people
- 24:26say things like simple, what did you expect against Penn State?
- 24:30Of course, you know, Nebraska lost big.
- 24:34I'm like Penn State was four and six.
- 24:38I mean, that this is what it's become.
- 24:42You can't beat Penn State simple.
- 24:43Penn State has incredible talent.
- 24:45I hear a lot of that. I hear a lot of that.
- 24:47Penn State simple has incredible talent.
- 24:51Really. Then then why did they lose the
- 24:53UCLA with incredible talent? And Northwestern, Yeah, I mean,
- 24:57they pushed Indiana. But in college football, there's
- 25:03there's peaks and valleys. Teams rise up.
- 25:07I, no, I, it's, it gets, it gets odd over here, now over here,
- 25:11there's not bravado. There's this constant, there's
- 25:13mostly consternation. I don't know that I hear, I've
- 25:16heard no bravado this week. It's mostly, it's mostly
- 25:22consternation mixed with, you know, the, the very, you know,
- 25:28the program loyalists doing their best to say everything's
- 25:32OK. And maybe it is.
- 25:35Here's the bottom line, guys. It's a it's a monster game from
- 25:39that rule monster. It would be his biggest win
- 25:43here. I mean, I'll put that in
- 25:45perspective, but then I know it sounds kind of weird to you, but
- 25:47that's kind of where we're at over here.
- 25:50It's it would be his biggest win.
- 25:54And if he's going to keep selling the notion of progress,
- 25:59this is the sort of win he needs because he hasn't had it.
- 26:02His best win this year, it was Cincinnati, which by the way, is
- 26:06I think lost three straight. And if it's not Cincinnati, it
- 26:10was Northwestern. So you see what?
- 26:12You see what the deal is here? Yeah, who just became both
- 26:15eligible? Yeah, he needs this bad.
- 26:18He needs this bad. Interesting sip, but we, we
- 26:21thought we kept hoping that, you know, one of these years when
- 26:24these two teams are going to play, it's, you know, for some a
- 26:27big 10 birther at the time, you know, to, to win their, their
- 26:31division, if you will, whether it be leaders or legends.
- 26:35But now it seems like the thing we're playing for this year is
- 26:40the winners going to go to Florida and the losers going to
- 26:42go to Las Vegas. That's how we see it over here.
- 26:46Is that how you guys have been looking at this or does it even
- 26:49cross your radar? Oh God, yes, it crosses our
- 26:52radar. Yeah, it's that's a big part of
- 26:55this. I mean, that would be.
- 26:57See, I always write, I always talk about, you know, I think
- 27:00you got everybody does this. It covers A-Team.
- 27:04You're looking for discernible progress, right?
- 27:08Tangible progress in a program. You just, you know, there's so
- 27:13much discussion, you know, you can get the wool pulled over
- 27:16your eyes and all that. But I'll tell you what, it would
- 27:20be discernible progress for Nebraska to play in the
- 27:23Pinstripe Bowl one year and then play in Tampa the next that you
- 27:29could point to that and say, OK, yeah, that's progress.
- 27:32That's progress. I mean, it's, you know, some of
- 27:35that is it's a perception thing, but it's still it's pretty
- 27:39tangible. So the hell no, It's gigantic.
- 27:42I mean, and hey, guys, over here now, I mean, the media, at least
- 27:47in fans, they would regard this as a monster win for Nebraska.
- 27:52They would. That's kind of where we're at
- 27:54over here. I think the program, I think.
- 27:56Hey, now listen, the players and coaches are of that mind too.
- 28:01I, I mean, I, you can kind of hear what they say publicly, but
- 28:04privately it is the case over here.
- 28:09They want this bad. I mean, they want, they need it
- 28:12bad. So I'll be interested to do what
- 28:14it looks like on Friday. Yeah, that's good stuff.
- 28:17So does Nebraska, do they plan on shaking hands or are they
- 28:20going to be fake tough guys like they were last year?
- 28:22So. Trent.
- 28:25Yeah. What?
- 28:27What? Just he just went straight to a
- 28:30base question. I don't know.
- 28:35I I don't know. I, I think there'll be
- 28:37sportsmanship as much as you can expect.
- 28:39It's listen, it's a rivalry. I don't.
- 28:42People can debate that all they want.
- 28:44Yeah. It's a rivalry, no?
- 28:47I'm with you. I think it's great.
- 28:49No doubt about that. The the heroes game sip the
- 28:53recipient from Nebraska went into a hero.
- 28:58Their their portion of the heroes trophy went into a
- 29:00burning house fire or something and saves.
- 29:03Do I have that right? It wasn't that a long time ago.
- 29:07I don't know. I think somebody from Columbus I
- 29:10know is the, is Nebraska, well, regardless of the circumstances,
- 29:15they're going to award somebody from the state of Nebraska,
- 29:17state of Iowa for recognition for some heroic endeavour this
- 29:21past year. So whether you know what,
- 29:23regardless of what it was, I I love the fact that that's behind
- 29:27what this game means. Sure.
- 29:30Yeah. And I don't.
- 29:30Know what I don't know? I thought that was the original
- 29:35story that someone went into a maybe that just happened.
- 29:38I don't hate, obviously don't know, but yeah, I like it.
- 29:41I just know this that trophy, I've seen it hoisted by players
- 29:45and I saw it hoisted Nebraska by Nebraska players in Iowa City a
- 29:49couple of years ago. And it was a monster deal to
- 29:51Nebraska. So for those guys to go in there
- 29:55to Kinnick and and raise that thing over their heads and
- 30:01prayed around with it, it's big. I've seen I would do it over
- 30:05here in Lincoln. And it was I saw the looks on
- 30:08the faces of those kids. This is a big deal to them.
- 30:11So I love it. I love it.
- 30:13This is big. I don't know what how many Iowa
- 30:16fans will make their way over here.
- 30:18I that let's go Hawks Chan is one of the I mean, I kind of
- 30:22always be careful how I phrased it over here.
- 30:24I don't want to sound like I'm a fan of Iowa, but I do appreciate
- 30:29the bloodthirsty nature of that chant.
- 30:32Like it's blood curdling. I I it freaks me out sometimes.
- 30:37What what kind of effort did Latif have last week?
- 30:40Obviously a lot of folks excited after the UCLA game, but the
- 30:45water got a lot deeper. Obviously what you call it
- 30:47Croatia, Happy Valley last week. What what would you say about
- 30:52Latif's game last week and does he take a step forward off of
- 30:56that? And obviously he would need to,
- 30:58but what did you, what do you think of the freshman
- 31:00quarterback last Week 1? Time you'd go into a foreign
- 31:03land and it's cold and and you know you don't it's
- 31:07unrecognizable to you. It's hard and it it couldn't
- 31:15have been easy for now. The weather was good.
- 31:17I mean, that's the thing. It was, it was no wind and you
- 31:21didn't necessarily need a jacket, which was odd.
- 31:25But yeah, that's a tough place to play.
- 31:28I mean, I can't stand going there.
- 31:31I don't understand why anybody would live there.
- 31:34But I do respect that that just the magnitude, the sheer
- 31:39magnitude of plane there. And it surely wasn't easy for a
- 31:44freshman, a true freshman. But he was not wide eyed.
- 31:48He played fine. You know, I think he's 21 of 37
- 31:52for 180 yards. They only asked him to run it on
- 31:56designed runs twice and he scrambled five times, got some
- 32:01yards. He's still like him.
- 32:03He's good. He's a good little 61210.
- 32:08I think he's, I don't know, Can he do this?
- 32:14Can he, can he orchestrate this type of win, You say, young kid?
- 32:19I don't know. But what?
- 32:21What he? Will do is take off and run like
- 32:24a running back. So you have you guys haven't
- 32:27seen that from Ryola, but you'll see that on Friday.
- 32:31Good stuff, Stephen M enjoy Thanksgiving.
- 32:33Appreciate you doing this. Good news, you get to stay home
- 32:36and eat the bird that don't have to travel over to Iowa City this
- 32:38year. That'll be next home game in
- 32:40Lincoln this weekend for the Huskers.
- 32:42Happy Thanksgiving, pal. Appreciate what you've done for
- 32:44us. Oh yeah.
- 32:45Thank you guys. Happy Thanksgiving to you.
- 32:48Good to talk to you. Stephen M Simple Husker
- 32:50Illustrated part of On Three media.com On Three media.com
- 32:55number still 5 1/2. 6/6 and 1/2. Isn't really, you know, what
- 32:59struck me that conversation? Just what this game means to
- 33:01them. It's big, it is big.
- 33:03It's an important. One, it is an important one,
- 33:05said a lot of nice things and the coaches staff obviously has
- 33:08the players attention and what a win over I would mean, Matt
- 33:12Rules. Biggest win of his tenure, I
- 33:16mean. Shows he doesn't have a whole
- 33:17lot of depth trouble. Yeah, that just shows you I'm
- 33:20there's how serious they're taking this game. 6 1/2 and you
- 33:23say? This a field goal every year and
- 33:24you're not wrong. No, every single year and.
- 33:26So is this free? I will make some points, I will
- 33:29make some field goal and they win by three-year after year
- 33:32after year. 1310, the last two seasons, both on walk off field
- 33:36goals, like 4 times walk off field goals by Iowa in this
- 33:40game. You're getting sick. 6 1/2 yeah,
- 33:43I'll grab those points. The Cyclones are up a dozen in
- 33:48their game against Creighton. 3 minutes left in the first half.
- 33:52I saw Pleeta swat one away from Freeman at the basket.
- 33:56Oh, and Freeman, what's? Wrong with this cat Trent.
- 33:59Does he like basketball? I think that's enough question.
- 34:03It doesn't seem like fair, right?
- 34:04There's a lot of passion in his game.
- 34:07Compound what we saw last year, obviously.
- 34:11Bad finger? Yeah, out of the year.
- 34:13I know who does like basketball. Joshua Jefferson loves the game.
- 34:17My God, is he unbelievable? He had a transition three couple
- 34:21minutes ago. Yeah, just stepped right into
- 34:22it. He's so talented.
- 34:24He is so versatile. Yeah, Toure's off to a good
- 34:26start. Heisey in the starting lineup.
- 34:29Buchanan so far, no fouls. What?
- 34:32Yes, he's yet to pick up a foul. Boy, he's got to put important
- 34:36role on this team. All right, We'll take time out.
- 34:39Transplays of the day. So I was mistaken last week.
- 34:42I thought my action was done. Oh, we got two more tonight.
- 34:45Oh, it's not done. We've got so one this afternoon.
- 34:48This afternoon, 330, yes. I'll be watching basketball.
- 34:52Yeah, me too. You're.
- 34:53Not going to watch US football. I already saw one U.
- 34:55Mass is bad. Like, really bad.
- 34:57That's an understatement. Not just O 111, but some of
- 35:00their numbers are as hideous as you can imagine.
- 35:03You got to lay 2 touchdowns maybe north of that.
- 35:05They are 136 out of 136 in total offense at 243 yards per game.
- 35:11Defence better. 130th in the. Country.
- 35:14Let's look it up. Given a 438.
- 35:17Defence is their calling card over there.
- 35:20And Eddie George and company making their way to Mass.
- 35:23Good stuff, Trench plays of the day, our next Miller and Condon.
- 35:25Glad you're with us on the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 35:28Hi Milary Condon, welcome back Final segment as Manchilovich
- 35:33buries A3 halftime in Las Vegas Clones 40 Blue Jays 2614 point
- 35:41lead for Iowa State Keep pouring it on.
- 35:45Make it interesting, right? It's.
- 35:48Going to come down to point total point total.
- 35:50Win this thing by 20. Win this thing by 20?
- 35:52Wouldn't that be so? Owen Freeman, by the way, has
- 35:54four. Josh Dix has a pair.
- 35:58He had six assists yesterday. He's got 2 today.
- 36:02Who else? 2 Rays.
- 36:03I think 2 Rays. The leading scorer he is, he's
- 36:05got 10. Only player so far in double
- 36:07digits. He's had 10 in 15 minutes of
- 36:10playing time. All right.
- 36:12Our final segment is Trent's Plays of the Day Circus sports
- 36:16sponsor that now Iowa plays tonight.
- 36:18They do. 830 Keikert is there if they win tonight or if they lose
- 36:24tonight, what are the circumstances as far as game
- 36:26times tomorrow, do you know? I think about 8, 30 again
- 36:29tomorrow night if memory serves, if they win.
- 36:31If they lose, they got the late game 11:00. 11:00 PM.
- 36:35And who's got the TV of this? CBS Sports Network OK 220
- 36:38Panthers will be playing there also against Loyola coming up
- 36:41here at 3:00. OK.
- 36:43Undefeated start for those you and I Panthers.
- 36:45You know there really are one of the stories so far, right?
- 36:47Good for Jacobson. What about the game tonight?
- 36:51Any feel for? It I got old miss plus 4 1/2
- 36:54really athletic team. They block a ton of shots they
- 36:56average over. I think it's like 8.2 blocks per
- 36:58game. A little bit concerned inside
- 37:00about that and a physical team, I think the first time they're
- 37:03going to see this kind of physicality.
- 37:05I like Iowa in a tight one, but getting 4 1/2, grab the number
- 37:09there, that's one of my plays of the day.
- 37:11Got a few more. So we're off to a decent start
- 37:13at Iowa State -6 1/2. See if we can Polish that one
- 37:16off you. Had a winning day yesterday.
- 37:17You had a winning day yesterday. Could have been even better if
- 37:20Iowa State doesn't give up a lay up at the horn.
- 37:22So I was laying 2 1/2 of that one.
- 37:23Those brutal. Boats.
- 37:25There's been a lot of them lately.
- 37:26Have Notre Dame this afternoon. They're up 9 lane, 5 1/2.
- 37:29Hopefully we can get that one home.
- 37:30But still to come tonight, Ole Miss plus 4 1/2, St.
- 37:34John's. They got North Carolina Saint
- 37:35Bonaventure. Excuse me, against Saint
- 37:37Bonaventure, North Carolina. Intriguing.
- 37:40So, you know the old ESPN guy, he leaves to be like their
- 37:43basketball CFO guy used to break the stories all the time.
- 37:46Woach. Yeah, woach.
- 37:48They got a good team, he's done a good job and he knows people
- 37:51in the basketball big #12 1/2 going to grab the Bonnies there.
- 37:55Rouge bombs going. To do the same.
- 37:57Michigan last night. OK performance.
- 38:00I like this Auburn squad. I know it was a slow start with
- 38:03Pearl's little kid running things.
- 38:05I've gotten 5 1/2 though. I'm going to grab the Tigers
- 38:08there. And one more on BTN tonight.
- 38:10You're Huskers taking on Winthrop.
- 38:13Grab a Winthrop plus 16 1/2 tonight.
- 38:15A lot of points, a lot of. Points.
- 38:17That's for sure. How many Big 10 teams are in
- 38:19Vegas? 3 Rutgers, Maryland, Michigan?
- 38:21Am I missing 1? That sounds right off the top of
- 38:24my head. Think they're going to come up
- 38:27with the same kind of deal I. Hope so, don't you?
- 38:29Kinda. Not really, you like this thing
- 38:32more than I do though. I just want to see other
- 38:34tournaments more. Yeah, we want to see Hawaii hold
- 38:38it's place in the pecking order. Yes.
- 38:40I want Maui to still be a thing. I still want the battle for
- 38:42Atlantis. I still want the one in.
- 38:45Is the battle for Atlantis back in Atlantis?
- 38:47Yeah, I. Think it has been the last
- 38:49couple of years, OK. Because where's where'd Layman
- 38:51go? He used to go to?
- 38:53Was that the? Tournament he did.
