- 0:00Speaker 1: The most gangster thing you could do is heal. When
- 0:03Speaker 1: that tragic incident happened, you got shot, right? Does that
- 0:05Speaker 1: make you your heart colder or does that make you
- 0:07Speaker 1: angry inside? I was really evil. The hardest thing for
- 0:11Speaker 1: me was let it go. If you gonna make a decision,
- 0:13Speaker 1: sit on it first and weigh your options.
- 0:15Speaker 2: You said, I realized that I was an evil person
- 0:17Speaker 2: and I'm wondering what got you out of that space.
- 0:19Speaker 1: I had to discipline myself and really make my mind stronger.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Before I made my body stronger, I had to really
- 0:25Speaker 1: test my faith. A lot of times people get money
- 0:27Speaker 1: when they're young. They spend all of the money. What
- 0:29Speaker 1: made you say, okay, let me do something a little different.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Let me invest the money. Let me buy real estate.
- 0:34Speaker 1: If all those pills and everything goes bad for me,
- 0:37Speaker 1: rap don't work, if acting don't work, if I don't
- 0:39Speaker 1: make another dollar off entertainment or stuff like that, I
- 0:42Speaker 1: know I have this. Who's giving you the education and
- 0:45Speaker 1: how are you learning about the music business? Don't go
- 0:47Speaker 1: into business thinking that everything's supposed to be 50-50. I'm
- 0:50Speaker 1: trying to have more leverage than the person that's countering me.
- 0:53Speaker 2: What's that first moment like when you actually touch real money?
- 0:56Speaker 1: I used to do stuff like I would go to
- 0:58Speaker 1: the bank just to get money out, just to look
- 1:00Speaker 1: at it like, damn, I really got money. Like, I'm
- 1:03Speaker 1: a real millionaire. This is really crazy. My biggest test
- 1:05Speaker 1: is going to be when I do get everything I
- 1:08Speaker 1: want and see if I'm still going to keep praying.
- 1:11Speaker 1: All right, y'all, welcome back. Welcome back. Yeah, yeah. Special guest,
- 1:15Speaker 1: Skill of Baby. What's going on, my brother? What up, though? Yeah,
- 1:17Speaker 1: my guy. How y'all feeling? We good, man.
- 1:18Speaker 2: How you feeling?
- 1:19Speaker 1: I'm good, man.
- 1:20Speaker 3: I'm blessed.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Yeah, man. Congratulations, man. You got a lot going on
- 1:24Speaker 1: with the project. How does it feel to be able
- 1:28Speaker 1: to put new work out and to, you know, actually
- 1:31Speaker 1: still be here to receive the love from your fans
- 1:34Speaker 1: and create the music?
- 1:37Speaker 3: It feels amazing.
- 1:37Speaker 1: I'm blessed, man.
- 1:40Speaker 3: I'm blessed beyond measures. I'm excited. I'm nervous.
- 1:44Speaker 1: It's my first real body of work studio album, so
- 1:49Speaker 1: I'm just ready to see how people digest it. I'm
- 1:54Speaker 1: excited because it's a whole different lane for me. You
- 1:56Speaker 1: say you're nervous. Talk to me about that. What does
- 1:59Speaker 1: that feel like? Like, you ever play sports and, like,
- 2:04Speaker 1: before the game, you just had those butterflies of being
- 2:07Speaker 1: as soon as the tip off, it go away.
- 2:10Speaker 3: It's like one of those type of things.
- 2:12Speaker 1: This is a Hooper.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Yeah. For the people who don't know that, tell them
- 2:17Speaker 2: the origin of, like, even how you got the name
- 2:19Speaker 2: because it starts from Hoop.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Yeah. I used to. This is how I originally got
- 2:24Speaker 1: my name. Like, my name was Skills because I, I
- 2:28Speaker 1: was in second grade. It was a fifth grade team.
- 2:30Speaker 1: So I really wasn't supposed to be on the team,
- 2:32Speaker 1: but I kept bugging the coach and I was like, coach,
- 2:34Speaker 1: I got skills.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Then we had nickname day.
- 2:38Speaker 1: He gave me that name cause I, cause I told
- 2:41Speaker 1: him I had skills and shit. So then fast forward,
- 2:46Speaker 1: it just, the name followed me throughout my sports life. And, um,
- 2:51Speaker 1: I was at practice one day, football practice and a
- 2:53Speaker 1: girl kept Like, you know how people make fun of
- 2:56Speaker 1: your name. They call me Skittles, all that type of stuff.
- 3:00Speaker 1: And the girl was just like, I'm going to call
- 3:01Speaker 1: you Skilla. And got to laughing and playing. And I
- 3:04Speaker 1: just remembered that when I got to high school and
- 3:06Speaker 1: ran with it. So we're going to get into everything,
- 3:08Speaker 1: the album and all that. But you're into politics now?
- 3:12Speaker 1: I see you with the mayor a lot. I wouldn't
- 3:14Speaker 1: say I'm into politics. I'm just, I like to advocate
- 3:17Speaker 1: for things I like that I feel because that's just
- 3:22Speaker 1: how I was raised.
- 3:23Speaker 2: So.
- 3:24Speaker 3: I wouldn't say I'm into politics.
- 3:27Speaker 1: I just like to give back to my community and
- 3:31Speaker 1: stand on what I believe in. How'd that introduction happen
- 3:34Speaker 1: with you and the mayor? I was with her head
- 3:40Speaker 1: of neighborhood affairs. So I met him and he was
- 3:46Speaker 1: telling me to get into buying properties and stuff. And
- 3:50Speaker 1: I just got real close with him, Ray Simpson. He's
- 3:54Speaker 1: a Beautiful dude. He's a family guy. He just had
- 3:59Speaker 1: the values that I value. But he got me into
- 4:04Speaker 1: buying properties and new builds and renovations and stuff. And
- 4:08Speaker 1: then I started doing community events with the mayor. Started
- 4:14Speaker 1: building that connection. Occupy the Corners was doing charity basketball games.
- 4:22Speaker 1: giving our shoes to the kids, coats for kids, toy drives.
- 4:28Speaker 1: We done done gun buybacks. We did everything, gave struggling
- 4:34Speaker 1: mothers homes. I done put girls through college, law school.
- 4:39Speaker 1: We just try to do something like that every year,
- 4:42Speaker 1: so a couple times a year. So that's how I
- 4:45Speaker 1: built a connection with her because I felt like she
- 4:48Speaker 1: was the only person that was running for mayor. She
- 4:52Speaker 1: was at, she was the city, um, city council, head
- 4:56Speaker 1: city council. So, um, when she was doing that, I
- 5:01Speaker 1: just connected with her because she was in the community
- 5:04Speaker 1: with us. Like she wasn't just trying to run. She
- 5:07Speaker 1: was doing community events. She's door to door seeing what's
- 5:12Speaker 1: going on. She's in the community. And I felt like
- 5:15Speaker 1: I could, I could stand with somebody like that because
- 5:18Speaker 1: they standing in the fire with us.
- 5:20Speaker 2: That's always been part of nationally who you are. I
- 5:22Speaker 2: feel like we go to Detroit a bunch of times.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Every time we meet new people, it feels like there's
- 5:28Speaker 2: just this connection to community, to the city, that everybody's
- 5:32Speaker 2: doing something. And it all translates to giving back to
- 5:34Speaker 2: the city of Detroit. You were brought up on that
- 5:37Speaker 2: or did you grow into that?
- 5:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I was brought up on that. So my dad,
- 5:40Speaker 3: he was born in like 1946.
- 5:41Speaker 1: So.
- 5:44Speaker 3: He got traditional values.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Old school. Yeah, real old school. So he got like
- 5:49Speaker 1: traditional values. So we would need food and we would
- 5:52Speaker 1: need money and stuff, but we would still be passing
- 5:55Speaker 1: out food at the soup kitchen. So I was always
- 5:59Speaker 1: raised that way. So talk about the real estate. I
- 6:03Speaker 1: asked you that question because the real estate, obviously our
- 6:05Speaker 1: platform is kind of based around business. You invest in
- 6:09Speaker 1: real estate. So how has that been going for you?
- 6:12Speaker 1: It's been going well. Any business venture be up and down,
- 6:17Speaker 1: but it's been going well for the most part. I've
- 6:20Speaker 1: been getting 1,000% returns. But it just takes time. That's crazy. 1,000%
- 6:28Speaker 1: is crazy. Buy and flip? You buy and sell it?
- 6:31Speaker 1: Buy and flip. I'd have had renters, but that doesn't
- 6:36Speaker 1: really work for me. The renters?
- 6:40Speaker 3: It's so many rules behind it.
- 6:42Speaker 1: When somebody is behind on your rent, you can't just
- 6:43Speaker 1: kick them out or anything like that.
- 6:45Speaker 3: And you got to go to court for that. You
- 6:47Speaker 3: got to have notices.
- 6:48Speaker 1: And so I'd rather just renovate and sell my properties
- 6:52Speaker 1: or I'd rather just hang on to them because I
- 6:55Speaker 1: feel like if I have enough of them, I can
- 6:58Speaker 1: cash in later.
- 6:59Speaker 3: That's just my plan. But, um, I didn't do it.
- 7:02Speaker 3: I sold my first house last year.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Um, It was really my, I sold my childhood home
- 7:10Speaker 1: for real. You grew up there. Yeah. And this is
- 7:13Speaker 1: why I say it'd be up and down because my
- 7:15Speaker 1: mom wouldn't let me buy it at first. And she
- 7:18Speaker 1: didn't own it, but they wouldn't let me buy it.
- 7:20Speaker 1: At first, she wanted to sell it to me for $ 40, 000. No,
- 7:24Speaker 1: I ended up buying it for like $ 100, 000. Then I
- 7:27Speaker 1: sold it for like $ 120, 000. But I could have got
- 7:33Speaker 1: super return on my investment if I would have bought
- 7:35Speaker 1: it earlier if she would have let me but that's
- 7:38Speaker 1: neither here nor there that's just I'm telling you some
- 7:41Speaker 1: of the downs of it but the ups of it
- 7:44Speaker 1: I had a whole block where I had like three
- 7:47Speaker 1: four houses on it and I bought those houses for
- 7:50Speaker 1: like 20,000 a piece um.
- 7:55Speaker 3: Putting nothing into it they're they're worth like 150 all
- 7:58Speaker 3: together if I.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Put $ 40, 000, $ 50, 000 to each house. They're $ 300, 000, $ 400, 000 houses.
- 8:06Speaker 1: So I get all that like a crazy return on
- 8:10Speaker 1: my investment.
- 8:11Speaker 2: These homes are predominantly in Detroit?
- 8:13Speaker 1: Yeah. These are Detroit-based homes. These are not in the
- 8:16Speaker 1: suburbs or anything.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Yeah. Because we actually went on like a whole city
- 8:22Speaker 2: tour and then we went to the suburbs and we
- 8:24Speaker 2: tried to figure out Detroit real estate. And we were
- 8:26Speaker 2: seeing things like that. There's just so much availability, so
- 8:30Speaker 2: much land. And then you can see what's happening downtown.
- 8:33Speaker 2: So it feels like that momentum is building up in
- 8:35Speaker 2: the city. How was it from your perspective? Are you
- 8:38Speaker 2: buying these, understanding what's happening from the landscape of all
- 8:42Speaker 2: the construction that's happening in the city?
- 8:45Speaker 1: You got to follow the trends, the comps, the comps
- 8:51Speaker 1: in the neighborhood, where they're gentrifying it at, everything. So
- 8:57Speaker 1: a lot of people be wondering when I say my
- 9:01Speaker 1: homes would be worth three, 400,000. They don't understand that
- 9:05Speaker 1: where I bought them at, I was already five years
- 9:09Speaker 1: or two or three or four years in the know
- 9:13Speaker 1: of what was going on over there. So they're, they're
- 9:16Speaker 1: extending a hospital over there. Plus they're building the Lions
- 9:21Speaker 1: practice facility over there. So I, I was in the
- 9:24Speaker 1: know about that. So that's why I, those houses over
- 9:30Speaker 1: there is worth so much.
- 9:31Speaker 3: But when Ray.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Was telling me to buy these houses, he was breaking
- 9:36Speaker 1: all of this down and nobody else understood it or
- 9:39Speaker 1: nobody else could see the future, but I could.
- 9:43Speaker 3: But he was telling a lot of people to do
- 9:45Speaker 3: it and they wouldn't do it.
- 9:46Speaker 1: But I bought in because I had a lot of
- 9:49Speaker 1: money and I just, I wanted to see what I
- 9:51Speaker 1: could do with it.
- 9:52Speaker 3: And it just, it worked out in my benefit.
- 9:56Speaker 1: What gave you the mindset? A lot of times people
- 9:58Speaker 1: get money when they're young They speak. all of the money, right? They,
- 10:01Speaker 1: you know, cars and, you know, lavish things, jewelry, stuff
- 10:06Speaker 1: like that. What made you say, okay, let me do
- 10:08Speaker 1: something a little different. Let me invest the money. Let
- 10:11Speaker 1: me buy real estate. Like who put that, that seed
- 10:14Speaker 1: in you? Or was that like just always something that
- 10:16Speaker 1: you just thought about? I watched people blow money and
- 10:19Speaker 1: I watched people make money. And some of the people
- 10:22Speaker 1: that I watched make money and was smartest with their money.
- 10:25Speaker 1: They didn't, they weren't completely legal. So they would buy
- 10:29Speaker 1: homes and that will always be there for them, you know?
- 10:34Speaker 1: And that was really my, just in case, like if
- 10:37Speaker 1: all those fields, if everything goes wrong, this, I got this, like,
- 10:43Speaker 1: I know.
- 10:44Speaker 3: This is here for me.
- 10:45Speaker 1: So yeah, Because also I'm young and I done made
- 10:49Speaker 1: foolish decisions financially. They didn't teach me financial literacy growing
- 10:53Speaker 1: up either. So I had things that I didn't do
- 10:58Speaker 1: the right way or smart decisions that I didn't make too.
- 11:01Speaker 1: So this was just my contingency plan. And I happened
- 11:07Speaker 1: to like it, but it worked out for me. But
- 11:11Speaker 1: this was always just like, okay, if all those feels
- 11:14Speaker 1: and everything goes bad for me, rap don't work, if
- 11:18Speaker 1: acting don't work, if I don't make another dollar off
- 11:21Speaker 1: entertainment or stuff like that, I know I have this.
- 11:25Speaker 1: And maybe it's my plan Z, but it's there. It'll
- 11:30Speaker 1: be there, land not never going anywhere.
- 11:33Speaker 3: That's a fact.
- 11:34Speaker 2: That's a fact. It's very intelligent, right? You're thinking about
- 11:37Speaker 2: the insurance plan in a sense, right? Like if this
- 11:39Speaker 2: doesn't work, but it does work, Right, and the music itself.
- 11:43Speaker 2: I want to, because you're doing this at such a
- 11:46Speaker 2: young age, what's that first moment like when you actually
- 11:48Speaker 2: touch real money? Like most people can't understand it. Like
- 11:53Speaker 2: the average millionaire gets to that point by 36, 37, right?
- 11:57Speaker 2: But you're young and you're getting money. What's this first
- 11:59Speaker 2: moment like for you?
- 12:01Speaker 1: The first moment was just like every other young guy.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Like I had a million dollars in a box one
- 12:07Speaker 1: time and I used to count it every day. Cash? Yeah, cash.
- 12:11Speaker 2: Gotta, gotta careful.
- 12:12Speaker 3: Paranoid, but it, but happy, everything.
- 12:16Speaker 1: And I know I didn't let nobody come nowhere near
- 12:19Speaker 1: where it was at. Like nobody would come over there,
- 12:22Speaker 1: but it would, it would be in this box and
- 12:25Speaker 1: I just make sure it's there every day, even though
- 12:28Speaker 1: I knew it was there. Like, and it was just
- 12:31Speaker 1: only because I never experienced this. I've never experienced this.
- 12:38Speaker 1: So when I'm seeing it, it's like, And I used
- 12:42Speaker 1: to do stuff like I would go to the bank
- 12:44Speaker 1: just to get money out, just to look at it like, damn,
- 12:47Speaker 1: I really got money. And I'd be like, oh my God,
- 12:51Speaker 1: I'm a real millionaire. I'd be like, this is really
- 12:56Speaker 1: crazy because nobody in my family hadn't seen nothing over $.
- 13:01Speaker 3: 10, 000.
- 13:02Speaker 1: So $ 100, 000.
- 13:04Speaker 3: Was rich to me.
- 13:06Speaker 1: So when I was blessed enough to break that ceiling,
- 13:10Speaker 1: that feeling was... crazy because you gotta think i'm 23
- 13:13Speaker 1: 24 years old at the time man i'm thriving but
- 13:19Speaker 1: the only thing that was off about it was i'm
- 13:23Speaker 1: the only one you know so i really don't complain
- 13:29Speaker 1: about everything falling on my back because i want that
- 13:31Speaker 1: responsibility i'd rather be the person that People can depend on,
- 13:35Speaker 1: they're not depend on. It's just not fun because not
- 13:39Speaker 1: the people depending on your part. It's the sad faces
- 13:45Speaker 1: because they have to depend on you, you know? And
- 13:48Speaker 1: everybody feels like they deserve what you got, you know?
- 13:53Speaker 1: But that comes with the territory. I understand that too.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Yeah. So just a quick follow up. What I'm hearing
- 13:59Speaker 2: is like that survivor's guilt. That remorse, that guilt, the
- 14:04Speaker 2: fact that I did it, I want them to do it.
- 14:08Speaker 2: I don't know if they will, but I'll help them
- 14:09Speaker 2: as long as I can. How do you deal with
- 14:12Speaker 2: that in the early stages of success?
- 14:16Speaker 3: It's hard. Different people deal with it in different ways because.
- 14:20Speaker 1: That's why I really had to cycle through my family
- 14:25Speaker 1: and friends.
- 14:26Speaker 3: And I got a lot of flack for this from them.
- 14:31Speaker 1: I don't help people because they want something. I help
- 14:35Speaker 1: them because they need something. Some of my family members
- 14:41Speaker 1: used to wonder why I give this family member more
- 14:44Speaker 1: money than them, but they needed that. You might have
- 14:48Speaker 1: enough to get over, and I'll bless you on Christmas
- 14:53Speaker 1: and certain days, but this person needs a place to stay.
- 14:57Speaker 1: So if I gave them $ 8, 000 and I didn't want
- 15:00Speaker 1: no money back from them You're wondering why. You're just
- 15:03Speaker 1: looking at the 8,000. You're not looking at them sleeping
- 15:06Speaker 1: in that car. You're not looking at them, all the
- 15:08Speaker 1: calls that they call me because I'm never going to
- 15:10Speaker 1: tell somebody I helped somebody.
- 15:11Speaker 3: It's not the thing.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Most of the times, these things happen because somebody wanted
- 15:16Speaker 1: to brag about me helping them. And that always bit
- 15:20Speaker 1: me in the ass more than them because now people
- 15:23Speaker 1: looking at me like, why you do that for them?
- 15:26Speaker 1: But I don't want to tell their situation, you know?
- 15:29Speaker 1: situation might not have been true or not. Like I'm
- 15:31Speaker 1: not a person that if you ask me for something,
- 15:34Speaker 1: I'm going to ask you what you're doing with it.
- 15:37Speaker 1: If you tell me that you homeless and you need
- 15:39Speaker 1: a house, I'll give you the money for the house.
- 15:42Speaker 1: If you don't, if you do or don't get your house,
- 15:44Speaker 1: that's on you. That's the best way to go about it.
- 15:48Speaker 1: That's the, that's the real charity right there. Like talk
- 15:52Speaker 1: about Detroit, the city of Detroit. Cause, um, Detroit is
- 15:56Speaker 1: an interesting place, man. I feel like every time I
- 15:57Speaker 1: go to Detroit, it's one of these places where it's like,
- 16:00Speaker 1: everybody's like real old school, like just super solid, good energy,
- 16:03Speaker 1: good vibes, but it had a bad reputation for a
- 16:06Speaker 1: long time. And I feel like your generation is actually
- 16:10Speaker 1: bringing a new energy to Detroit. With all of the rappers,
- 16:13Speaker 1: it's a lot of energy. Even from the athletic standpoint,
- 16:18Speaker 1: it's like a new wave of energy that's coming into Detroit.
- 16:21Speaker 1: And I think people are starting to look at Detroit
- 16:24Speaker 1: from a different landscape. Because a lot of people had
- 16:26Speaker 1: never been to Detroit. They just was hearing, it's like Chicago.
- 16:29Speaker 1: A lot of people had never actually ever been to Chicago.
- 16:31Speaker 1: They were just seeing what they saw on the news.
- 16:34Speaker 1: And it was painting such a bad picture that that's
- 16:36Speaker 1: the only thing that they thought about. But when you
- 16:39Speaker 1: go there, you see, oh, Chicago is beautiful. Same thing
- 16:42Speaker 1: with Detroit. So what's your thoughts on the city of
- 16:45Speaker 1: Detroit and like your generation kind of like redefining Detroit
- 16:50Speaker 1: to the world? Detroit is a beautiful place. Beautiful people.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Most Detroiters' family members come from down south. So we
- 17:00Speaker 1: have a lot of down south values. We know how
- 17:04Speaker 1: to cook. We love good food. We love family reunions,
- 17:08Speaker 1: stuff like that. We love our people. We hold our
- 17:11Speaker 1: people near and dear to our heart. We come off
- 17:14Speaker 1: a little bit cold sometimes, but that's just the nature
- 17:17Speaker 1: of the city. But we're inviting. People don't understand that
- 17:22Speaker 1: we're inviting because people don't go. Mm-hmm. Um, I'm glad
- 17:25Speaker 1: that we got a little light shed on this because
- 17:28Speaker 1: we are, Detroit's a beautiful city for sure. And a
- 17:32Speaker 1: lot of people, good people come from Detroit. Um, you
- 17:37Speaker 1: gotta think like Michael Jackson came through Detroit. Anita Baker
- 17:40Speaker 1: came through Detroit. Eminem's, uh, representation of Detroit.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Barry Sanders still lives in Detroit.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Motown. Yeah, like Motown and all those artists. So I
- 17:52Speaker 1: think we had a bad rep only because of numbers.
- 17:55Speaker 1: And I had this conversation with one of my managers
- 17:57Speaker 1: the other day. Cali's such a big place that more
- 18:04Speaker 1: stuff will happen in Cali, but the numbers don't reflect
- 18:08Speaker 1: it because they're going off base how many people and
- 18:13Speaker 1: how many murders or how many violence. So if we
- 18:16Speaker 1: have a hundred people and 80 people, something happened to them.
- 18:23Speaker 1: It's different. If you have a thousand people in 80 people,
- 18:26Speaker 1: something happened to 80 people. So they're not saying, man,
- 18:29Speaker 1: this was 80 murders in Kelly and 80 murders in Detroit.
- 18:33Speaker 1: They're going off. Oh, this is an 80% murder rate.
- 18:36Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying?
- 18:37Speaker 3: Instead of 8% murder rate.
- 18:40Speaker 1: So it's different. Like, At Cali, they got a thousand people.
- 18:43Speaker 1: It's 80 murders. That's 8%. If it's 80 murders in Detroit,
- 18:47Speaker 1: it's 100 people. So it's an 80% murder rate. So
- 18:51Speaker 1: that's the numbers they put out. But they're not saying
- 18:54Speaker 1: like only 80 people down here, 80 people down here.
- 18:56Speaker 1: It's a beautiful place. Nobody in Detroit just going around
- 18:59Speaker 1: doing stuff to people just for no reason. I'm not
- 19:03Speaker 1: saying it's a valid, great reason, because violence is never
- 19:07Speaker 1: an answer. I want to stop and say this on camera.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Violence is never an answer. I don't want kids to
- 19:12Speaker 1: get hurt. I don't want adults to get hurt. I
- 19:14Speaker 1: want everybody to stay peaceful, love God, and love yourself,
- 19:17Speaker 1: and have good intentions. But Detroit is a beautiful place,
- 19:22Speaker 1: and we're from urban situations, the ghetto, And we know
- 19:30Speaker 1: what that breeze, when everybody has nothing and everybody wants something,
- 19:35Speaker 1: and you put everybody, you put one thing in a cage,
- 19:38Speaker 1: you want a plate of food in a cage with
- 19:40Speaker 1: 20 people, only one person's getting that food, you know?
- 19:45Speaker 1: So that's the situation we're born in, and it's unfortunate
- 19:49Speaker 1: they don't teach us. financial literacy they don't they don't
- 19:54Speaker 1: really teach us values that we need they're not teaching
- 20:01Speaker 1: us like ethical values that's not what They're teaching us
- 20:09Speaker 1: in our community. And it's a lot that happened too
- 20:12Speaker 1: because it was a motor city, right? So it's like
- 20:14Speaker 1: when a lot of those jobs start to get less,
- 20:17Speaker 1: that hurts the economy. And that's the whole Midwest, right?
- 20:20Speaker 1: Like Flint, Michigan. And so it's a trickle-down effect on,
- 20:25Speaker 1: like you said, the economics of it that when people
- 20:28Speaker 1: don't have job opportunities, now you resort to different things.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Then you got to think that it was a point
- 20:35Speaker 1: where the government had to bail us out. the big
- 20:38Speaker 1: three auto plants is detroit so if the government had
- 20:43Speaker 1: to bail us out imagine how many jobs were lost
- 20:47Speaker 1: imagine how many people from detroit don't get jobs because
- 20:51Speaker 1: more people are um they they qualify for those jobs
- 20:57Speaker 1: that we have some more people that's qualified to go
- 21:00Speaker 1: that go to school for automotive engineering.
- 21:03Speaker 3: And stuff like that.
- 21:04Speaker 1: So those people come from Alabama, Cali, New York, down
- 21:10Speaker 1: the street, and they had the money to go to
- 21:13Speaker 1: school to do this. So they're going to get those
- 21:17Speaker 1: jobs because they're qualified to do that. Or you're grandfathered in,
- 21:21Speaker 1: but everybody's not grandfathered in to those jobs and get
- 21:25Speaker 1: recommendations and stuff. You know what we learned about Detroit
- 21:28Speaker 1: I never knew before? Because we always know New Orleans
- 21:31Speaker 1: is like French quarter and all that. We went to Canada, Montreal,
- 21:35Speaker 1: and they was telling us Detroit is actually, was a
- 21:38Speaker 1: French colony at one point.
- 21:39Speaker 3: Détroit.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Détroit.
- 21:41Speaker 1: And it's like St. Louis, like St. Louis. And also
- 21:44Speaker 1: it's like, that was an interesting history lesson that I
- 21:48Speaker 1: personally didn't know that. Détroit. Yeah.
- 21:52Speaker 2: It's interesting because like we grew up not knowing those
- 21:55Speaker 2: things in school. So a lot of things we did
- 21:57Speaker 2: learn was from our environment and from music. And so
- 22:01Speaker 2: our era, late 80s, early 90s, the music definitely had
- 22:07Speaker 2: an influence on us. You come from a different era, right?
- 22:10Speaker 2: So I'm wondering, M is early, Sean is there, but
- 22:15Speaker 2: you guys have a renaissance of artists that are here now.
- 22:18Speaker 2: What was the influence for you as you're trying to
- 22:21Speaker 2: create music, as you realize that music is going to
- 22:24Speaker 2: be something that I can do?
- 22:25Speaker 1: I was more influenced by Motown artists because my dad
- 22:29Speaker 1: was born in 1946, so. I would hear new stuff,
- 22:32Speaker 1: but it would be newer, like Tupac or some Lil
- 22:36Speaker 1: Wayne stuff. Like, I'm influenced by my favorite artist, Anita Baker.
- 22:42Speaker 1: I like Luther Vandross. Um, I listen to the Gap Band, um, Earth,
- 22:48Speaker 1: Wind & Fire, Isley Brothers.
- 22:52Speaker 3: If I was rap influences, Meek.
- 22:53Speaker 1: Mill, Lil Wayne, um, Jay-Z had influence on me, um,
- 22:58Speaker 1: 50 Cent, um, Those type of artists. DMX had a
- 23:05Speaker 1: lot of influence. Jeezy?
- 23:07Speaker 3: Jeezy.
- 23:08Speaker 1: He's like the number one influence for Detroit. Doug Motivation
- 23:14Speaker 1: 101 is like, we hold that near and dear to
- 23:17Speaker 1: our heart.
- 23:19Speaker 3: He could perform that every day in Detroit.
- 23:24Speaker 1: So that makes sense then. That makes sense. So a
- 23:27Speaker 1: lot of your music is geared towards the ladies.
- 23:30Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Okay, so that's why.
- 23:32Speaker 3: Because I grew up hearing people yearning and stuff like that.
- 23:35Speaker 2: You need to get back to that, though. Ain't nobody
- 23:38Speaker 2: making music that can translate that expression to women. We
- 23:43Speaker 2: was in a car yesterday and Blackstreet came on. And
- 23:46Speaker 2: I'm like, yo, you hear how he's talking about don't leave? Like,
- 23:48Speaker 2: it's a real emotion that don't exist. So, like, that's
- 23:53Speaker 2: the era that's influencing the sound.
- 23:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:58Speaker 1: I'm trying to get back to that on my album
- 24:00Speaker 1: to where it's like, music needed to get back to
- 24:03Speaker 1: where we making it from a point of love. I
- 24:06Speaker 1: think everybody starting their music with hatred right now. Like
- 24:11Speaker 1: if you listen to everything, it starts with hate. When
- 24:15Speaker 1: music was originally started with love, you know, like you
- 24:18Speaker 1: had some songs where it was like, it came from
- 24:20Speaker 1: a point of hatred, but it was like real pent
- 24:25Speaker 1: up emotion that were real feelings. It wasn't, I think
- 24:29Speaker 1: the cool thing, coolest thing people, do right now what
- 24:33Speaker 1: people deem as cool is have an op. If you
- 24:37Speaker 1: don't got an op, it's like you're not a cool person.
- 24:41Speaker 1: I want everybody to live for real. I don't really
- 24:45Speaker 1: wake up and be like, I want to do this
- 24:47Speaker 1: or that to a person because I really don't.
- 24:49Speaker 3: I really want to live. I really want to spend
- 24:51Speaker 3: my money.
- 24:51Speaker 1: I really want to get on boats, travel, have podcasts
- 24:55Speaker 1: like this where we're having teachable moments. People really don't
- 25:00Speaker 1: understand this too, the value of life. I don't think
- 25:05Speaker 1: young kids understand if everybody leave, bro, you're going to
- 25:08Speaker 1: be depressed. Kill everybody, you're going to be one depressed
- 25:12Speaker 1: individual who have nobody to talk to.
- 25:15Speaker 3: You'll be so lonely.
- 25:17Speaker 1: And that's not, I think people don't understand that the
- 25:22Speaker 1: real goal in life is to be happy. And whatever
- 25:26Speaker 1: that is to you, Happiness, that's the only thing I'm chasing.
- 25:29Speaker 1: I don't want to be mad every day. I want
- 25:31Speaker 1: to be happy for sure. So, you know, being obviously
- 25:35Speaker 1: God-fearing man and such a positive person, you know, a
- 25:40Speaker 1: breath of fresh air when it comes to the music industry.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Do you have any level of like bitterness or anger?
- 25:46Speaker 1: Like when that tragic incident happened, you got shot, right?
- 25:50Speaker 1: Does that make your heart colder or does that make
- 25:53Speaker 1: you angry inside to be like, damn, I'm a positive person. Like,
- 25:57Speaker 1: I didn't deserve this. Or like, is that something that
- 25:59Speaker 1: you just say, that's out of my control?
- 26:01Speaker 3: Honestly, it made me bitter. It made me evil.
- 26:07Speaker 1: I had to really, that was my hardest fight. Like,
- 26:11Speaker 1: as men, I said this on a couple other podcasts too,
- 26:16Speaker 1: our pride is like everything to us. So, people don't
- 26:20Speaker 1: really understand by me letting something slide or me taking
- 26:29Speaker 1: a step back and not really doing the easy thing
- 26:32Speaker 1: to do, which is to harm a person or do
- 26:35Speaker 1: something crazy. And I'm not saying I'm, I'm not saying
- 26:41Speaker 1: that I haven't been this type of person before. Like,
- 26:49Speaker 1: because I'm not perfect. I've done, I made mistakes and stuff.
- 26:54Speaker 1: But as a maturing man, and this album really helped
- 26:57Speaker 1: me with that, the hardest thing for me was let
- 27:01Speaker 1: it go. Like that's, people don't understand, like I think
- 27:05Speaker 1: only real grown men will understand this. This not gonna
- 27:10Speaker 1: make me look cool at all. So, I just want,
- 27:16Speaker 1: I wanted to be the person that, Let younger people
- 27:20Speaker 1: know that the hardest thing to do, like the most
- 27:25Speaker 1: gangster thing you could do is heal, like live, avoid situations.
- 27:37Speaker 1: That's the most hard thing I had to do. I
- 27:40Speaker 1: had to really, with my two managers, I'd be on
- 27:43Speaker 1: the phone. They'd watch me go through this. I had
- 27:47Speaker 1: a real evil stint to where like, I was really
- 27:52Speaker 1: evil and I had to hide myself in the house.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Cause a lot of people would have caught that short
- 27:59Speaker 1: end of the stick. Like a lot of people would
- 28:02Speaker 1: have caught that. Like, and people don't understand. Like, it's
- 28:06Speaker 1: so easy for me to, I have money, I have
- 28:08Speaker 1: resources and I'm a, I'm, I'm not a gangster no more. Like,
- 28:14Speaker 1: but I can go there. Like, I understand myself, I
- 28:19Speaker 1: can go there. So the hardest thing for me to
- 28:22Speaker 1: do was let that hurt go.
- 28:24Speaker 2: Yeah, so you titled the project The Price of Fame.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 28:29Speaker 2: Interesting title. I wonder, is it a cautionary tale? Because
- 28:33Speaker 2: you talked about having the money and feeling paranoid. Or
- 28:37Speaker 2: is it an educational project where it's like, look, this
- 28:40Speaker 2: is what comes with it?
- 28:41Speaker 1: Mm-hmm. The Price of Fame is really... I wanted to
- 28:46Speaker 1: be broad to where you can have your own cost
- 28:52Speaker 1: to what success cost you. My price and your price
- 28:57Speaker 1: might be different. I wanted to feel relatable to the
- 29:04Speaker 1: average man, average woman and their struggles because people don't
- 29:09Speaker 1: really talk about normal people no more. It might have
- 29:16Speaker 1: cost me time partying. I don't do drugs.
- 29:19Speaker 3: I don't drink.
- 29:20Speaker 1: A lot of stuff I want to do, I just
- 29:22Speaker 1: don't do because my whole life is dedicated to success.
- 29:26Speaker 1: You might have cost time with your kids. You might
- 29:29Speaker 1: have had to travel for work. I want to be
- 29:32Speaker 1: home in Detroit. Regardless of everything that be going on,
- 29:37Speaker 1: I like home. I love it. But I know I'm
- 29:40Speaker 1: bigger than that and it's not healthy or conducive to
- 29:45Speaker 1: my situations so that's like a cost like.
- 29:53Speaker 3: Happiness um.
- 29:58Speaker 1: It's just all the sacrifices that you put in to
- 30:01Speaker 1: take care of your family or doing what you love
- 30:04Speaker 1: or being successful. That's, that's what the price of fame is.
- 30:07Speaker 1: And fame is just a word to replace success. Like
- 30:11Speaker 1: it just sounded better saying fame, but fame is a,
- 30:16Speaker 1: is like a, but a synonym for success.
- 30:22Speaker 3: And when it comes to.
- 30:23Speaker 1: My project, like all the sacrifices and, the price it costs,
- 30:28Speaker 1: price you pay to be successful at what you do,
- 30:31Speaker 1: because nobody want to work for 20 years straight, but
- 30:35Speaker 1: everybody got to take care of their family and everybody
- 30:37Speaker 1: has these responsibilities that they have to do. I want
- 30:41Speaker 1: to talk about the music, but I just want to go,
- 30:43Speaker 1: because what you said was insightful as far as, Waldo
- 30:46Speaker 1: has a TED Talk where he talked about he forgave
- 30:50Speaker 1: the person that killed his brother. And he was like,
- 30:52Speaker 1: if he didn't, his life wouldn't be where it is now.
- 30:55Speaker 1: And Forgiving doesn't mean that you just forget about something,
- 31:01Speaker 1: but it's like King Vaughn's last interview, actually, ironically enough,
- 31:05Speaker 1: I think it was with Killian Wallow. And he was
- 31:07Speaker 1: saying like, you know, the eye for an eye and
- 31:11Speaker 1: I kill you and you kill me. And then before
- 31:13Speaker 1: you know it, everybody's dead. And he was like, somebody
- 31:16Speaker 1: got to be the person to break that cycle. Cause
- 31:19Speaker 1: if not, then it's a, it's a never ending cycle.
- 31:24Speaker 1: race to the bottom where everybody's going to end up
- 31:26Speaker 1: killing each other and nobody's going to win so it's
- 31:29Speaker 1: like how do you communicate like that message to maybe
- 31:33Speaker 1: to like young people or like like being that you
- 31:36Speaker 1: went through it right like what would be your message
- 31:38Speaker 1: to somebody that has something done to them or has
- 31:41Speaker 1: something done to their family member and it's like look
- 31:44Speaker 1: you can do this path if you want to but
- 31:46Speaker 1: nine times out of ten you're gonna end up getting
- 31:49Speaker 1: killed you're going to jail So who really is winning
- 31:52Speaker 1: in this situation, right? Everybody, now your mom is mad.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Like everybody's just a losing, losing, losing, losing. So how
- 31:57Speaker 1: do you relay what you just said to somebody else
- 32:01Speaker 1: that may have gone through trauma? I think the coolest
- 32:08Speaker 1: way to talk to kids and like the only way
- 32:11Speaker 1: to get through to younger generation is not to lie
- 32:15Speaker 1: to them. I think as parents, as older people, people
- 32:20Speaker 1: as um chaperones as mentors people be trying to be
- 32:27Speaker 1: too politically correct and had a correct answer which my
- 32:32Speaker 1: correct answer might not be another person's correct answer but
- 32:36Speaker 1: i could tell them my experiences and the options you
- 32:41Speaker 1: know so i can't really say like and lie to
- 32:46Speaker 1: a kid and be like, I forgive this person or
- 32:48Speaker 1: I forgot this because I'm working on it. I can
- 32:51Speaker 1: say I'm working on it. And, like, even as a parent,
- 32:56Speaker 1: I wouldn't tell my kids, like, don't do that because
- 33:03Speaker 1: I wouldn't do that.
- 33:04Speaker 3: I would give them the options.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Like, you can do this, but this is what's probably
- 33:08Speaker 1: going to happen if you don't do it.
- 33:10Speaker 3: Because....
- 33:12Speaker 1: When it come to kids, and I know this because
- 33:14Speaker 1: I was a kid before. We all been kids before. Nobody,
- 33:18Speaker 1: kids don't like authority. So I think the best way
- 33:22Speaker 1: to teach a kid is to guide them somewhere and
- 33:27Speaker 1: don't let them bump their head on the big tree.
- 33:29Speaker 1: But if it's a little branch, listen, bro, I'm telling
- 33:33Speaker 1: you that branch there, bro. If you want to bump
- 33:36Speaker 1: your head, I'm not letting you do nothing crazy, go
- 33:39Speaker 1: to jail or nothing. But if you want to bump
- 33:41Speaker 1: your head and get scratched up, bro, I'm telling you,
- 33:45Speaker 1: you're going to get a scratch. Because I know when
- 33:47Speaker 1: you get that little scratch, you're going to come back
- 33:49Speaker 1: and be like, Pops, you told me I was getting
- 33:51Speaker 1: that scratch. And it hurt.
- 33:54Speaker 3: And I'm not giving you a Band-Aid because I told you.
- 33:58Speaker 1: Now, if you got a stab wound, we're going to
- 34:00Speaker 1: the doctor. But if you got that scratch, bro, listen, bro,
- 34:03Speaker 1: you better do what we did and lick the wound,
- 34:07Speaker 1: lick your thumb, wipe it off and go play. Because
- 34:10Speaker 1: I think that's the most healthiest way to tell the kids, like,
- 34:17Speaker 1: I can't lie to a kid and be like, yeah,
- 34:19Speaker 1: I forgive this person or I forgot that. I can't.
- 34:22Speaker 1: But I can say, listen, this is how I talk
- 34:24Speaker 1: to God every day.
- 34:26Speaker 3: I'm trying to take baby steps.
- 34:29Speaker 1: I set reminders to talk to God to make sure
- 34:34Speaker 1: When I do get these thoughts, I talk to God first,
- 34:39Speaker 1: you know? So if I did it, I understand I
- 34:44Speaker 1: had this conversation and I thought about it. I think
- 34:47Speaker 1: the biggest way to tell the younger generation is if
- 34:52Speaker 1: you're going to make a decision, sit on it first
- 34:55Speaker 1: and weigh your options. I think we're so quick to
- 35:03Speaker 1: respond and react. as a community, especially like as a
- 35:06Speaker 1: black community, we're reactionary. And that's the, that's, that's, that's
- 35:14Speaker 1: what harmed us most because we're so reactionary that we
- 35:18Speaker 1: don't weigh our options. We don't weigh our options. Like
- 35:23Speaker 1: Pastor Warren Campbell told me, you might not be wrong.
- 35:26Speaker 1: You might not be fighting right and wrong. And I
- 35:29Speaker 1: say this a lot because that stuck with me when
- 35:30Speaker 1: he said it to me, you might be fighting right.
- 35:33Speaker 1: And what's wise. You might be right to go do that.
- 35:38Speaker 3: But are you willing.
- 35:39Speaker 1: To sit in prison for 20 years? You might be
- 35:42Speaker 1: right to go do that. But are you willing to
- 35:44Speaker 1: lose this person in your life forever? You might be right.
- 35:48Speaker 3: To go do that.
- 35:50Speaker 1: But does it... Is that your values? Somebody steal from
- 35:57Speaker 1: you or somebody hit you and... You go do something.
- 36:03Speaker 1: Is that really your values? If it is your values,
- 36:06Speaker 1: I understand you. It's not my values, but if it
- 36:11Speaker 1: is your values. Right for as well. You know what
- 36:13Speaker 1: I'm saying? Yeah. Is your values to stay away from
- 36:16Speaker 1: your family for 20, 30 years? Because guess what? You
- 36:19Speaker 1: was the patriarch. So that's why a lot of my stuff,
- 36:25Speaker 1: I had to sit on it because I take care
- 36:27Speaker 1: of my whole family. So of course, I want to
- 36:31Speaker 1: be a gangster and do all the gangster stuff, but
- 36:35Speaker 1: am I willing to go sit down? Yes, but is
- 36:37Speaker 1: that conducive to my family? Like, can my family live
- 36:42Speaker 1: they same lifestyle without me?
- 36:44Speaker 3: No, so it's, I can't.
- 36:49Speaker 2: Those are prophetic words right there. I want to talk
- 36:51Speaker 2: about the self-reflection part because you kind of alluded to
- 36:54Speaker 2: it earlier. You said, I realized that I was an
- 36:56Speaker 2: evil person and I'm wondering from that standpoint, What got
- 37:01Speaker 2: you out of that space? Is that the moment where
- 37:03Speaker 2: you turned to faith and became even more devoted in
- 37:07Speaker 2: that space of your life? Or was there somebody that
- 37:09Speaker 2: was in your corner that was like, we don't want
- 37:11Speaker 2: to see you like this. We got to get you
- 37:12Speaker 2: out of this. Or was it something, you know, therapeutic?
- 37:15Speaker 2: Was it music? Like, how did you get out of
- 37:17Speaker 2: that moment in time?
- 37:19Speaker 3: My album helped me doing that.
- 37:21Speaker 1: But more than my album, I started going to the
- 37:23Speaker 1: gym and set my timer to pray. And I, from like,
- 37:28Speaker 1: I had got shot in May. I had, um, I got,
- 37:32Speaker 1: I got surgery in June, started healing up. I started
- 37:39Speaker 1: getting a gym. I got in a gym, like my
- 37:42Speaker 1: body was, was, was messed up. So I started getting
- 37:45Speaker 1: a gym at like, in like November from November 1st
- 37:49Speaker 1: to January 30th. I went on this fast, no sugar,
- 37:53Speaker 1: no bread, no sex. Um, No sugar, no bread, no sex,
- 38:01Speaker 1: and no potatoes. And that really helped me stay disciplined.
- 38:08Speaker 1: That was my first discipline test. I had to discipline
- 38:12Speaker 1: myself and really make my mind stronger before I made
- 38:16Speaker 1: my body stronger. I had to really test my faith,
- 38:21Speaker 1: see how much I would pray and how much if
- 38:23Speaker 1: I would keep working out. And I ultimately passed that test.
- 38:27Speaker 1: And I think that wasn't even my biggest test. My
- 38:29Speaker 1: biggest test is going to be when I do get
- 38:33Speaker 1: everything I want and see if I'm still going to
- 38:36Speaker 1: keep praying. I still pray two, three times a day
- 38:41Speaker 1: when I have everything I want and everything I need.
- 38:44Speaker 1: And I'm just being honest with myself because it's a
- 38:46Speaker 1: hard task. It's not, it sounds easy. Like, man, just
- 38:50Speaker 1: go pray. But, When you hit your knees when times
- 38:56Speaker 1: was good, it's way different from when you hit your
- 38:59Speaker 1: knees when times was bad. When you don't need nothing.
- 39:03Speaker 1: When you don't want for nothing. Are you still going
- 39:06Speaker 1: to thank God for grace, forgiveness? Are you still going
- 39:10Speaker 1: to ask God to walk with you through the good
- 39:14Speaker 1: times just like he walked with you through the bad times? Like,
- 39:17Speaker 1: people forget about that. Like, you got to stay prayed
- 39:20Speaker 1: up regardless of your situation. That's my biggest test, I think, coming.
- 39:27Speaker 1: I'm just preparing myself for that season because I feel
- 39:30Speaker 1: like right now I'm in a season of shedding all
- 39:34Speaker 1: the old dead weight, all the old skin, all the
- 39:38Speaker 1: bad stuff off me. When all my skin looks clear
- 39:43Speaker 1: and the coast is clear, am I still going to
- 39:45Speaker 1: walk with God? Am I still going to stay prayed up?
- 39:49Speaker 1: Am I still, am I going to cut my timers off?
- 39:52Speaker 1: That's my test that I think I'm, I'm preparing for
- 39:55Speaker 1: right now.
- 39:55Speaker 2: Are you, are you seeing that influence around the people
- 39:58Speaker 2: that you're with? Right. Like, is your crew now saying like, oh,
- 40:02Speaker 2: we're on that too. Right. Like, Are you starting to
- 40:04Speaker 2: see that? Or is it solely just you at this point?
- 40:08Speaker 2: And maybe people are starting to see, like, we need
- 40:10Speaker 2: to have that discipline, right? Because I would feel that
- 40:13Speaker 2: you're the leader, right? Because in the family, you're the leader.
- 40:16Speaker 2: They start to take on characteristics that you have. Is
- 40:19Speaker 2: that happening for you?
- 40:20Speaker 3: I ain't with all older guys.
- 40:22Speaker 1: So we like, I understand that a great leader follows too.
- 40:27Speaker 1: So we all take values from each other. Um, we
- 40:32Speaker 1: hold each other accountable. When I got my weight vest,
- 40:35Speaker 1: my manager wine over there, got his weight vest. He
- 40:37Speaker 1: started fast and he started eating better. My manager rocket.
- 40:41Speaker 1: We did it together. We fast and eating together, praying. We, um,
- 40:46Speaker 1: we switched our whole diet. So we are, we are
- 40:50Speaker 1: taking accountability.
- 40:52Speaker 3: For each other.
- 40:53Speaker 1: And this is why I'm motivated to keep doing it. And, um,
- 41:02Speaker 1: Just like when I was talking about my mental health
- 41:04Speaker 1: struggles and my journey with God and my faith journey,
- 41:11Speaker 1: so many people was DMing me saying they don't even
- 41:15Speaker 1: know I'm seeing their messages, how they're turning on their
- 41:18Speaker 1: timers to pray or they're sending me passages from the
- 41:22Speaker 1: Bible or just what I said helped them with their struggles.
- 41:27Speaker 1: I don't really broadcast it or post none of them
- 41:31Speaker 1: because that's their struggles and that's their story. I just
- 41:36Speaker 1: want them to know, like if they listen to this podcast,
- 41:40Speaker 1: keep sending them because I see them and some I
- 41:42Speaker 1: do respond to. I had a girl tell me her
- 41:45Speaker 1: whole story the other day and I just listened. I
- 41:48Speaker 1: think people don't understand the value of listening and not
- 41:51Speaker 1: responding and just letting people know they heard and being seen.
- 41:57Speaker 1: Talk about music, the music business. how are you learning
- 42:02Speaker 1: the music business as far as coming in, you know,
- 42:04Speaker 1: learning about, you know, royalties and learning about show money
- 42:08Speaker 1: and learning about how to pay taxes. Like who's giving
- 42:11Speaker 1: you the education and how are you learning about the
- 42:13Speaker 1: music business? Um, I learned as I go, I asked
- 42:16Speaker 1: a lot of questions. Um, I bumped my head a
- 42:19Speaker 1: few times and I think that was the best, um,
- 42:25Speaker 1: lesson was bumping my head. Um, And I just take
- 42:29Speaker 1: my time. Before I do anything, I study it.
- 42:33Speaker 3: People don't understand.
- 42:34Speaker 1: That business is about leverage. So don't go into business
- 42:44Speaker 1: thinking that everything is supposed to be 50-50.
- 42:47Speaker 3: That's not that.
- 42:50Speaker 1: I'm trying to have more leverage than the person that's
- 42:52Speaker 1: countering me. So if I'm dealing with a label, I'm
- 42:56Speaker 1: trying to go have more leverage than than them and
- 43:02Speaker 1: if I'm dealing with anybody I want to have more
- 43:05Speaker 1: leverage than them because now I have room to negotiate
- 43:09Speaker 1: because anything contractual is final you know until you fulfill
- 43:14Speaker 1: that obligation of that contract and I think people need
- 43:19Speaker 1: to understand that about business business never changes business is
- 43:25Speaker 1: business And I think people go into a business with
- 43:28Speaker 1: emotions and thinking everybody friends. Even your friend when his
- 43:33Speaker 1: business is business. Like, I don't go into business with love.
- 43:38Speaker 1: I don't.
- 43:39Speaker 3: I just not. I don't have no emotion.
- 43:41Speaker 1: I don't go into it with hate either. But I
- 43:43Speaker 1: don't have no emotion when it comes to business because
- 43:46Speaker 1: my business is final. If I tell you I'm going
- 43:50Speaker 1: to do something for you and I'm going to give
- 43:51Speaker 1: you 80% of the proceeds and that's contractual, I'm going
- 43:54Speaker 1: to do that. And I'm going to stand on it.
- 43:56Speaker 1: And when you start getting rich, I'm going to stand
- 43:58Speaker 1: with you too. I'm going to give you 80% until
- 44:01Speaker 1: I fulfill my obligations. That's my business ethics. That's what
- 44:07Speaker 1: I stand on. But when it comes time for you
- 44:10Speaker 1: to give me 80% in this contract, I expect that too.
- 44:14Speaker 1: So I'm going to take my losses with my wins.
- 44:17Speaker 1: That's just how business works. I done lost stuff in business.
- 44:20Speaker 1: I done won in business. So I understand that's how
- 44:24Speaker 1: business goes.
- 44:26Speaker 2: Did you always have that mindset or did you get
- 44:29Speaker 2: to that point? I hear a lot of people, especially artists,
- 44:32Speaker 2: they love making the music. They hate the business side
- 44:34Speaker 2: of it. I mean, you said you have no emotions.
- 44:39Speaker 2: Did you get forced into that point or that's always
- 44:41Speaker 2: been the mindset since you stepped in the game?
- 44:44Speaker 1: It was like that since I stepped in because I
- 44:47Speaker 1: watched other people go through it. And I love doing business.
- 44:51Speaker 1: I love my losses just as much as I love
- 44:53Speaker 1: my wins because I'm a person that's never getting too
- 44:56Speaker 1: high or too low because I know it's coming. I
- 44:59Speaker 1: know a loss coming. Also, I know after this loss,
- 45:02Speaker 1: the only way is up. After I go down, I
- 45:05Speaker 1: know I'm going back up. So I ain't really tripping.
- 45:08Speaker 1: Like I done took losses and nobody knew it. Like,
- 45:13Speaker 1: like even beyond music, like I done really lost three watches,
- 45:19Speaker 1: Richard Millie's. Nobody never knew. Like they could, they know
- 45:22Speaker 1: because they not on my wrist, but, they don't know
- 45:25Speaker 1: how I lost them. I didn't get robbed from them
- 45:27Speaker 1: or anything. It was just like, I lost my watches.
- 45:29Speaker 1: And my first one. Just misplaced them? Yeah. My first one, like,
- 45:36Speaker 1: it got, no, the first one, so Richard Milley's like, they,
- 45:41Speaker 1: they rubber band. So my first one, I, I was
- 45:45Speaker 1: at a, a fight and a bunch of people crowded
- 45:48Speaker 1: around me and, and it got like, got off my wrist, boom.
- 45:53Speaker 3: Like, They bump you. They do like a pickpocket thing.
- 45:55Speaker 2: I've seen something like that before.
- 45:57Speaker 1: Boom. So that one, I had no insurance. My second one,
- 46:01Speaker 1: I lost in my homeboy pants at a hotel. He
- 46:04Speaker 1: let the lady wash his pants and my watch came up.
- 46:08Speaker 3: But I had that insurance.
- 46:10Speaker 1: So I'm just saying that to like, I done took
- 46:14Speaker 1: losses and I learned from him. Like my first watch,
- 46:18Speaker 1: I wasn't insured. It was $ 200, 000 loss. My second watch,
- 46:22Speaker 1: that cut me a check for it. So it was like,
- 46:26Speaker 1: and I lost jewelry and other stuff in between there.
- 46:29Speaker 1: And it's like, I understand what comes with the territory.
- 46:33Speaker 1: I don't hold this much value to these objects.
- 46:38Speaker 2: You invest in the market? The stock market?
- 46:40Speaker 3: Nope, I've never done that.
- 46:42Speaker 2: I'm listening to your mindset and I'm like, he would
- 46:45Speaker 2: be a great investor.
- 46:47Speaker 3: I like try, look, I try to invest in Bitcoin, right?
- 46:49Speaker 1: This is why I don't be doing like stock markets and,
- 46:52Speaker 1: and crypto because I invested in Bitcoin and I invested in,
- 46:58Speaker 1: it's another one. Ethereum? Nope, it's like an Asian name.
- 47:04Speaker 3: I forgot what it's called.
- 47:05Speaker 1: Solana? No, I started with something else. I got the
- 47:08Speaker 1: thing on my phone, but it's another one.
- 47:12Speaker 3: I invested in it and I let my.
- 47:16Speaker 1: Money sit in there and it was sitting in there
- 47:19Speaker 1: and it wasn't doing nothing. I was like, man, I'm
- 47:21Speaker 1: going to go do something else with my money. As
- 47:23Speaker 1: soon as I took it out, it went up. I
- 47:25Speaker 1: was like, yeah, bro, this is not my thing. I
- 47:28Speaker 1: ain't patient enough. Okay.
- 47:31Speaker 2: When you talk about the components of not looking at
- 47:34Speaker 2: these things as losses, understanding that, hey, we've hit a
- 47:37Speaker 2: certain part, or we've hit a metric and the only
- 47:40Speaker 2: way is up. That's how we looking at charts, right?
- 47:44Speaker 2: Like I'm looking at it like, all right, we hit
- 47:46Speaker 2: a moving average here. The next way has to be up, right?
- 47:49Speaker 2: Even if we fall back, how much further are we
- 47:51Speaker 2: going to go? How are we going to learn if
- 47:53Speaker 2: we do this and we, you know what I mean?
- 47:54Speaker 2: So when you saying these things, I'm like, yo, damn,
- 47:56Speaker 2: if we just use that same strategy inside of the market,
- 48:01Speaker 2: obviously we got to have discipline. That part is key,
- 48:03Speaker 2: but those are some of those characteristics of somebody who's
- 48:05Speaker 2: going to be a great investor.
- 48:06Speaker 1: Well, that's why you would be because you have discipline.
- 48:09Speaker 2: And you have it, right?
- 48:10Speaker 1: You already have discipline in your life. So that's the key.
- 48:14Speaker 1: Like he said, that's the key to the stock market. People,
- 48:16Speaker 1: you ever hear it's like, buy low, sell high. You
- 48:21Speaker 1: heard that before. Most people in the stock market, they
- 48:24Speaker 1: do the exact opposite. They buy high and sell low.
- 48:26Speaker 1: Because it's like, let's say Bitcoin, right? They've been hearing
- 48:30Speaker 1: about Bitcoin forever. Everybody's talking about it. The barbershop is
- 48:33Speaker 1: talking about it. They keep putting it off. They keep
- 48:35Speaker 1: putting it off. And then Bitcoin goes to 120,000. And
- 48:39Speaker 1: then it's like, damn, it's going to go to a million.
- 48:42Speaker 1: I got to get in now. Then they put their
- 48:44Speaker 1: money into Bitcoin, 120,000. Then what happens right when they
- 48:48Speaker 1: put their money in?
- 48:49Speaker 3: It drops.
- 48:50Speaker 1: It drops to 70. It drops to 70. Then it
- 48:52Speaker 1: goes to 60. So now you're thinking like, damn, I
- 48:55Speaker 1: lost 50% of my money in four months. This is crazy.
- 49:00Speaker 1: It's definitely 100% going to go to zero. I don't
- 49:03Speaker 1: want to lose everything. Let me just take my money out.
- 49:05Speaker 1: And then as soon as you take your money out,
- 49:08Speaker 1: It goes up. Like, you know what I'm saying? So
- 49:09Speaker 1: that's why more people buy at the top and they
- 49:11Speaker 1: sell at the low instead of doing the opposite. But
- 49:14Speaker 1: that comes down to the discipline. But like over the
- 49:17Speaker 1: long run, because obviously you're a very intelligent person. the
- 49:20Speaker 1: stock market, I think that that's something that you should
- 49:22Speaker 1: probably get into because you like real estate already. So
- 49:25Speaker 1: you understand properties appreciate and the stocks, you know, all
- 49:29Speaker 1: of these companies, Apple, Microsoft, Google, they're not going anywhere.
- 49:33Speaker 1: So it's like, if we could become owners in those companies,
- 49:35Speaker 1: that's just long-term success. That's the contingency plan. That's the contingency.
- 49:39Speaker 3: I think it was taught to me wrong.
- 49:42Speaker 2: Yeah, that's it.
- 49:44Speaker 3: Somebody just told me, man, put your money in this.
- 49:46Speaker 1: It's going up. Y'all explain it when you're seeing the
- 49:50Speaker 1: metrics of it and you're seeing like, all right, you're
- 49:54Speaker 1: explaining this like buy low and sell high. They're not
- 49:58Speaker 1: really explaining that. They're just like, I did this, you know,
- 50:02Speaker 1: they're not explaining.
- 50:04Speaker 2: Like the whole process. Right.
- 50:07Speaker 1: See, everything has a process. People like, see, we as
- 50:11Speaker 1: a community, we take the elevator up so you land
- 50:14Speaker 1: on the top floor. People don't talk about the steps
- 50:18Speaker 1: like they didn't tell you they took the steps. They
- 50:20Speaker 1: put you on the elevator. They ain't telling you like
- 50:22Speaker 1: they walk this step, step by step and went to
- 50:25Speaker 1: the top.
- 50:26Speaker 2: The market is looking for that person that says they
- 50:28Speaker 2: don't even know why they did it. They just did it.
- 50:29Speaker 2: They made money. Because chances are they're going to be
- 50:31Speaker 2: thinking that that's the strategy to continue to make money.
- 50:34Speaker 2: And in the market, like the whales, like these big
- 50:37Speaker 2: institutional companies, they'll wait for it to get to a high.
- 50:40Speaker 2: They'll take profit. You never know what takes profit until
- 50:42Speaker 2: it falls. And they know that if you see it
- 50:44Speaker 2: go from 100 to 70, most likely you're going to
- 50:47Speaker 2: be like, I'm never doing this again. Let me just
- 50:49Speaker 2: take my 70. When you take it, they've already made
- 50:52Speaker 2: money up to the 100. They're going to put money
- 50:53Speaker 2: back in at 70. It's going to go up to 150.
- 50:56Speaker 2: You see what I'm saying? Like that, those are the
- 50:58Speaker 2: ebbs and flows of it. Just over the course of
- 51:00Speaker 2: time though. We, we so short minded that we think
- 51:03Speaker 2: immediate gratification. I got to turn my a hundred into
- 51:06Speaker 2: a thousand and I have to do it within two months,
- 51:09Speaker 2: but you've haven't had money for your whole life. Why
- 51:12Speaker 2: you got to do it in a month? You know
- 51:13Speaker 2: what I mean? We just, it's the, it's the mindset shift,
- 51:16Speaker 2: but the education part is important. Understanding why you're doing it.
- 51:21Speaker 2: Not because somebody told you it changes the game for you.
- 51:23Speaker 1: Definitely.
- 51:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:24Speaker 1: I was, um, talking to some guys in Arizona. There
- 51:29Speaker 1: was some business owners and they was, like, inviting me
- 51:32Speaker 1: into their, they had, like, an investment group. But I
- 51:38Speaker 1: didn't really do it because I don't understand it. They
- 51:41Speaker 1: invest in companies right before they go public.
- 51:44Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 51:45Speaker 1: That's... Yeah, they was... Startup, like, startup companies.
- 51:49Speaker 2: The IPO game.
- 51:49Speaker 1: That's where the real money is really, it's risky. Because
- 51:53Speaker 1: it's like, by the time it goes to the stock market,
- 51:56Speaker 1: people had already made 1,000, 10,000% of their money, right?
- 51:59Speaker 1: It's like if you could invest in Meta when Mark
- 52:03Speaker 1: Zuckerberg first started the company, right? That's how they're making
- 52:08Speaker 1: hundreds of billions of dollars. But it's like baseball. I
- 52:12Speaker 1: see you got the MLB hat.
- 52:14Speaker 2: Shout out to Slow.
- 52:16Speaker 1: Yeah. That's the thing with baseball. All you got to
- 52:20Speaker 1: do is hit three out of ten. You're an all-star.
- 52:24Speaker 1: that's not really a good percentage in life. 30% success
- 52:27Speaker 1: rate in most life is 30% is not good. But
- 52:31Speaker 1: in baseball, it's like they're in their hall of fame, right?
- 52:33Speaker 1: So that's what they did. They just try to hit
- 52:34Speaker 1: like one. If they can get 10, they can get one.
- 52:38Speaker 1: And if they get that one, that one will make
- 52:40Speaker 1: up for the nine losses.
- 52:42Speaker 2: I tell people this, right? When they don't invest in
- 52:45Speaker 2: the market, I say, think about the wealthiest people in
- 52:47Speaker 2: the world, right? Zuckerberg, Bezos, Musk, Larry Ellison, they all
- 52:56Speaker 2: have the same thing in common. They got a company,
- 52:59Speaker 2: they own shares of the company and it's publicly traded.
- 53:02Speaker 2: The more the value of that company goes, the stock
- 53:04Speaker 2: goes up, their value goes up. So like when Elon
- 53:07Speaker 2: has SpaceX IPO and he owns a large percent of
- 53:09Speaker 2: those shares and he has Tesla already, now he's the
- 53:13Speaker 2: first trillionaire, right? But we don't, we're not thinking, like
- 53:16Speaker 2: that's how they're building wealth, right? They're creating companies, those
- 53:18Speaker 2: companies are going public. They have companies that have moats
- 53:20Speaker 2: and they have competitive advantages. And they have a brand
- 53:23Speaker 2: loyalty inside of it and people invest in it. And
- 53:26Speaker 2: that's the way, like, we got to get to that point, right?
- 53:29Speaker 2: We see wealth in our community, entertainment, sports, but somebody's
- 53:33Speaker 2: paying those people. You know what I mean? The mindset shifts.
- 53:37Speaker 2: So like when they put you in these races, it's like, okay,
- 53:40Speaker 2: they're not explaining it to you, but they might not
- 53:42Speaker 2: be explaining to you because they don't want you to
- 53:43Speaker 2: be a part of it. But that gives you the
- 53:44Speaker 2: challenge to go educate yourself. Like that's the next piece.
- 53:47Speaker 1: But what you said, that was intelligent though. Never invest
- 53:49Speaker 1: in anything you don't understand. Exactly. That's how people lose
- 53:51Speaker 1: money all the time. They just, because then it becomes gambling, right?
- 53:56Speaker 1: When you don't fully understand something, then you're just doing
- 53:58Speaker 1: it because you think you can make money. And thinking
- 54:03Speaker 1: that you're going to make money usually does not, that
- 54:06Speaker 1: usually means you're going to lose all your money. When
- 54:08Speaker 1: you think you're going to make money, you got to
- 54:10Speaker 1: know you're going to make money. That's the difference. Like,
- 54:12Speaker 1: so you did the right thing. But, you know, I'm
- 54:14Speaker 1: sure you'll have a lot of opportunities throughout your career.
- 54:17Speaker 1: But let's talk about acting. 50 Cent. He's become like
- 54:21Speaker 1: a mentor to you, right? Yeah. How has your relationship
- 54:25Speaker 1: with 50 Cent developed? My guy TV, he from New York,
- 54:30Speaker 1: he introduced me to 50 TV.
- 54:32Speaker 3: My guy, I rock with TV.
- 54:36Speaker 1: After I met 50 through TV, I had seen 50
- 54:41Speaker 1: at the Super Bowl when it was in Vegas. Damn,
- 54:46Speaker 1: somebody that's close with 50 right now is actually my
- 54:51Speaker 1: manager now, but I met him through somebody in Detroit.
- 54:56Speaker 1: So when I got with Rocket, we just started going
- 55:01Speaker 1: to acting classes. I did that for like a year
- 55:04Speaker 1: and a half. And then he was like, when you ready,
- 55:07Speaker 1: I'm going to tell 50. So then I went to
- 55:10Speaker 1: acting class for like a year, and then he figured
- 55:12Speaker 1: out I was ready. And he told 50, showed him
- 55:15Speaker 1: my self-tapes and stuff. And then... after that, me and
- 55:19Speaker 1: 50 been having, like, this relationship to where every time
- 55:24Speaker 1: I ask him for a new opportunity, like, not, like,
- 55:29Speaker 1: to give it to me, I just be like, I
- 55:31Speaker 1: feel stagnant. And he'd give me some work. Like, he'd
- 55:34Speaker 1: be like, all right, I got this audition for this.
- 55:38Speaker 1: I got this for this. And he put me with
- 55:42Speaker 1: an acting agency, and He's just been supporting everything I do,
- 55:47Speaker 1: and I'm blessed to just have him in my corner,
- 55:49Speaker 1: and he just be wanting to see me win. So
- 55:53Speaker 1: that's like how I fuck with 50. And you're going
- 55:56Speaker 1: to be on Power.
- 55:57Speaker 3: Yeah, Power Origins.
- 56:00Speaker 1: Acting school, you really feel like that really, really helped you?
- 56:04Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure.
- 56:05Speaker 1: Because just like when we was talking about the metrics
- 56:09Speaker 1: of the stock market, Everything has the process, the language,
- 56:14Speaker 1: the verbiage, the ins and outs. When it comes to acting,
- 56:17Speaker 1: you got to know your marks. You got to have like,
- 56:20Speaker 1: what if you have an intimacy scene? They got intimacy coordinator.
- 56:23Speaker 1: They teach you how to make people feel comfortable, teach
- 56:27Speaker 1: you how to talk on set, understand what people are saying,
- 56:31Speaker 1: you know? So camera angles, if this, When this camera
- 56:37Speaker 1: zooms in on you, how your body language should be.
- 56:39Speaker 1: When this camera zooms out, when it's a wide shot,
- 56:42Speaker 1: like you got to understand this before you just get
- 56:45Speaker 1: on camera. And people, I think people jump into it
- 56:48Speaker 1: and don't understand that. And that's why some people don't
- 56:54Speaker 1: look comfortable on screen. Then you got to understand what
- 56:58Speaker 1: you're comfortable doing, what you mature enough for, what roles
- 57:03Speaker 1: fits you to make you look the.
- 57:04Speaker 3: Best, you know? So you got to understand all that too.
- 57:09Speaker 2: We got the track list for Price of Fame. And
- 57:13Speaker 2: we saw one of the biggest influences of our life
- 57:17Speaker 2: for sure on the track list. Talk about the Nas relationship,
- 57:22Speaker 2: the Nas feature, how it came about. Yeah, man. I mean,
- 57:25Speaker 2: that's somebody that we lived through our whole life.
- 57:28Speaker 1: Man, somebody let Nas hear my album. It just started
- 57:34Speaker 1: off with Them letting Nas hear the album, man. Man,
- 57:39Speaker 1: I thought, he told me, he told us that it
- 57:42Speaker 1: was a breath of fresh air. Like, and like, I
- 57:46Speaker 1: was like, I was threw off at first. Nas, Nas
- 57:49Speaker 1: ain't say that. Like, this is Mount Rushmore, Nas.
- 57:52Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 57:54Speaker 1: Then, conversations just turned into, I'm getting on the phone
- 57:58Speaker 1: with him.
- 57:59Speaker 3: Then I'm like, this really Nas.
- 58:01Speaker 1: I'm on the phone with Nas. But Nas such a,
- 58:04Speaker 1: Cool guy, he a cool cat. So I'm like, I'm
- 58:09Speaker 1: on the phone with Nas. Then it turned into, man,
- 58:14Speaker 1: Nas going to get on your album. I'm like, nah.
- 58:17Speaker 1: I'm like, nah, Nas ain't getting on my album. So
- 58:22Speaker 1: then I fly out to see them. And we were
- 58:27Speaker 1: just kicking it. Then a few months later, nah they
- 58:31Speaker 1: sent me a video of the Nas verse I'm like
- 58:34Speaker 1: wow that's crazy and it was like more I valued
- 58:38Speaker 1: it for more personal reasons I was selfish like man
- 58:40Speaker 1: I got a Nas verse more than really understanding that
- 58:43Speaker 1: Nas is on my album like this like a bro
- 58:46Speaker 1: this like a a head nod in hip hop like
- 58:49Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying like it's Nas Nas ain't
- 58:51Speaker 1: getting on everybody's stuff that's a fact and I'm like
- 58:55Speaker 1: man I got Nas on there like even even with
- 58:59Speaker 1: the with the The other features I got, like I
- 59:02Speaker 1: be feeling like I got, that's why I was so
- 59:04Speaker 1: selective with them and I didn't just add anybody to
- 59:07Speaker 1: my project because I got, I felt like I got
- 59:10Speaker 1: what was necessary.
- 59:12Speaker 2: That Nas moment is a thing. The first time you
- 59:16Speaker 2: hear I get love in Detroit like I'm Skillet Baby,
- 59:19Speaker 2: what's the reaction from you?
- 59:22Speaker 1: People don't understand that he was coming to Detroit like,
- 59:28Speaker 1: a couple times hanging with us before I even, like,
- 59:32Speaker 1: he knew I was a rapper, like Jack Harlow. So
- 59:35Speaker 1: he used to be cool, like, on tour. He forgot
- 59:39Speaker 1: who he was on tour with, but he was, like,
- 59:42Speaker 1: the opener, him and Seti Hendrix. They used to hang
- 59:45Speaker 1: with us because Sada was super big, like, especially in Detroit.
- 59:51Speaker 1: So Sada, baby, was super big. So I'm hanging with Sada.
- 59:55Speaker 1: Jack Harlow hanging with us. but Jack Harlow hanged with
- 59:58Speaker 1: me because Sada bigger than him at the time. We
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: just like two young kids, just, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: We just rock around downtown and stuff. And then like
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: Jack Harlow texts me all the time and just be
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: checking on me. Like, man, I'm glad you talk about
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: this or I see what you're doing.
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: Keep doing that. Like we don't even talk about music.
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: So when he did that, I didn't, that was big
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: for me because I didn't know he was going to
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: do that.
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: They just was like, man, Jack Harlow did this. Do
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: you approve it?
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: I'm like, what do you mean?
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: I hear I get love in Detroit like Skilla Baby.
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: Then I heard it all the time. I'm like, whoa,
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: this is crazy.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: Number one single in the world. Number one single in
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: the world.
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: Man, that was a cool moment for me, like crazy.
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: That was, a lot of people, that might have even
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: been an introduction to you. Like who is Skilla Baby? Yeah, exactly.
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: Then they start going down the rabbit hole. So what
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: can people expect from this album? Like if, okay. This
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: is their first time really, really, they've heard your music before,
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: they know who you are, but this is the first
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: time they're going to listen to you from start to finish.
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: What do you want them to get out of it
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: and what should they expect? They're going to expect what
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: to expect from this album. Raw emotion. Top tier lyricism.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: Great features. Teachable moments. wittiness um everything big records um
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: a story top to bottom a story and i just
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: want them to um to really just sit with it
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: and because the music is great but i want them
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: to sit with it and understand And I don't want
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: to tell people what to get from it. I want
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: them to understand. I want them to get what they
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: want from it. And I want them to really sit
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: with it and comprehend what the project is and how
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: important it is for culture.
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: I think it's a lot of ethical values on there.
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: Faith-based concepts and values. I think Everything was led with
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: love and started with God on this album. So I
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: just want them to understand that, like, and get that
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: from me.
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: I feel like it's a classic.
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: A classic in the making, man. I appreciate the conversation.
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: I had watched you, what I said, Pretty V. And
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: I was like, man, I want to speak to him.
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: When they said, you know, I'm like, we got to
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: do it. Just because I hadn't seen an artist, I
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: hadn't seen anybody really go deep into vulnerability at the
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: stage of the career that you're at. And I was
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: like that, the same way Nas said, that's a breath
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: of fresh air. When I heard you speak, I'm like,
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: that's a breath of fresh air. I was like, we
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: got to sit down with him. I wonder when you're
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: looking at obviously yourself, Detroit, what's the legacy? Cause you know,
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: you see people that artists and they come into the
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: space and they want to get on and they want
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: to put their friends on and make more music. I
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: feel like there's a bigger calling for you though. What
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: do you want? What do you see a legacy being?
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: I think my legacy is just being obedient to what
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: God tells me to do. I feel like teaching people
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: through my story, finally figured that out. I think I
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: could bridge the gap between what's.
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: Cool and what's not cool.
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: As far as the youth thinking, being a good guy
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: is not cool. I think I could fix that. only because, like,
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: you see how I could dress for Pretty V interview,
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: then I feel like this. I feel like a young
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: guy today and dress like this and talk about financial literacy.
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: My head be all over the place, but my intent
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: be the same. So, my intention is always good. So,
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: I think my legacy is just to be God's guinea pig. Like,
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: I think um, let God lead me into everything I'm
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: doing and all my decisions that I'm making. And just,
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: if I help one person, I feel like I did
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: my job for the day. Well, I appreciate you brother, man.
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: This is dope conversation. You got a bright future. Tell
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: the people all the information, you know, the, the album,
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: the title, where to get it, when to get it,
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: the whole, the whole vibe. Um, The Price of Fame
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: dropped August 21st. Show Me Love just came out. You
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: can get it everywhere on all platforms. Please sit with
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: it and understand it. I think you'll get financial literacy
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: from it. I think you'll get faith values from it.
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: I think you'll get just a complete understanding of who
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: I am and why I am who I am, why
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: I act how I act. And I just want to
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: thank you guys for having me up here. This was
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: just like one of the coolest interviews I've been on.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: Appreciate it. This was like, yeah, like this was like
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: a really cool conversation for me because that's what I'm into.
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: And I.
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: Always like learning.
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: And I learned from y'all guys today. And that was
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: really big for me. Yeah. We're not done.
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: We're not done learning, man. We're going to hold your
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: hand in this stock market investing thing. I think it's important.
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: Because I think once you get it, at your level
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: of intelligence, I know your natural thing is let me
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: go give it back to people. So we're going to
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: work on that with you.
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: Appreciate y'all.
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: Yes, sir. All right, y'all. We'll see you next week. Peace.
