- 0:21Speaker 2: fire me up Friday with this or does this actually
- 0:24Speaker 2: fire you up?
- 0:25Speaker 1: Now that this does not fire me?
- 0:26Speaker 2: You were just kind of collecting yourself and okay, all right,
- 0:29Speaker 2: I got you. All right, let's hear from Long Horns

- 0:56Speaker 2: opener tonight.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Devrone Arty two park for you.
- 1:00Speaker 4: One, just wanting to if fin any chance you have
- 1:02Speaker 4: an update on Tremont Mark's status and second, outside of
- 1:05Speaker 4: the effort on Monday, what you know, encourage you both performance.
- 1:11Speaker 3: Yeah, Eric, Good afternoon, guys. I think the one thing
- 1:16Speaker 3: about Tremon is that, uh, they're doing a great job
- 1:21Speaker 3: with them right now. Training staff's excellent. I mean, war
- 1:24Speaker 3: is the best in the business. Uh. But I think
- 1:26Speaker 3: that what we all with him right now is he's
- 1:29Speaker 3: gonna be out indefinite right now until you know, we
- 1:32Speaker 3: have him at a full slate right now. We don't
- 1:34Speaker 3: want to have to bring him out and then you know,
- 1:37Speaker 3: we have some issues with this ankle situation and and
- 1:40Speaker 3: it lingers on for you know, better part of the season.
- 1:43Speaker 3: So we want to we put him out there or
- 1:44Speaker 3: give him an opportunity to get back out there. We
- 1:47Speaker 3: want to make sure he's a full tilt ready to
- 1:49Speaker 3: go and he's able to play at the level he's
- 1:51Speaker 3: capable of playing. So you know, we'll continue to work
- 1:55Speaker 3: through it. Uh. And uh, you know, with the other
- 1:58Speaker 3: guys getting other opportunit his next man mentality. But but
- 2:02Speaker 3: that's kind of what we all with his situation. Likewise
- 2:04Speaker 3: with Devon Pryor as well. Both of those guys will
- 2:08Speaker 3: be guys that will have out indefinite until they're able
- 2:11Speaker 3: to come back, uh and be at full strength for us.
- 2:16Speaker 3: I think in terms of the game. The other night,
- 2:20Speaker 3: again well coached Ohio State team, older Ohio State team
- 2:24Speaker 3: that came out and shot the ball extremely well. We uh,
- 2:29Speaker 3: you know you you know, you out in every contest,
- 2:31Speaker 3: you're gonna you're gonna you're gonna get lessons that that
- 2:35Speaker 3: you're gonna learn whether you win, whether you lose.
- 2:38Speaker 5: Uh.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Unfortunately for us, it was through a loss that we
- 2:40Speaker 3: had to come back and learn you know, uh, tough
- 2:43Speaker 3: lessons in terms of we have to be really good
- 2:45Speaker 3: at our shooter defense. I mean, our guys have been
- 2:47Speaker 3: working at shooter defense. We've been working at it over
- 2:50Speaker 3: the course of you know, two months. Uh, but those
- 2:53Speaker 3: guys came out and really shot lights out, so we
- 2:55Speaker 3: can't really have man down, hand down, man down. Uh.
- 2:58Speaker 3: And they shot it with rain, I mean they shot
- 3:00Speaker 3: the ball deep, uh, with ranging and give them credit,
- 3:04Speaker 3: they made big shots and big moments and uh, but
- 3:07Speaker 3: I do think our group, you know, persevered through some
- 3:12Speaker 3: adversity and really, to be honest with you, in two games.
- 3:17Speaker 3: It's the only adversity that our team has experienced to
- 3:20Speaker 3: this point right now. So it was a growth curve
- 3:23Speaker 3: for us in that regards. We hadn't we hadn't been behind,
- 3:26Speaker 3: so it was the first time that we were behind
- 3:28Speaker 3: and playing from behind, and and it showed a little bit.
- 3:31Speaker 3: I thought our guys kind of we didn't really panic,
- 3:34Speaker 3: but we kind of really kind of pushed the button
- 3:36Speaker 3: in terms of let me go try to get this
- 3:38Speaker 3: all back at one time as opposed to just continue
- 3:41Speaker 3: to work the game. But we settled in and uh,
- 3:44Speaker 3: and we put ourselves in position a couple of times
- 3:46Speaker 3: to be in position to you know, have an opportunity
- 3:50Speaker 3: to win the ball game. So you know, that was
- 3:52Speaker 3: positive and and and again I thought, our guys played hard.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Are the areas that we need to continue to get better. Uh,
- 3:59Speaker 3: there are areas we need to continue to get better
- 4:01Speaker 3: and areas that we'll fix. And you know we all
- 4:04Speaker 3: committed and said we'll do that together. You know, our
- 4:07Speaker 3: staff and our players working harder on getting better. Yeah, hey, Ronnie,
- 4:13Speaker 3: A couple of things.
- 4:14Speaker 5: One is what do you have to do to you,
- 4:19Speaker 5: the staff and the players to create a better flow
- 4:21Speaker 5: on offense. And also when you looked at the Ohio
- 4:25Speaker 5: State three pointers, were their instances of your guys just
- 4:28Speaker 5: having their hands down where they were maybe in position
- 4:31Speaker 5: but not quite defending well.
- 4:33Speaker 3: I think flowing offense. I think our team is going
- 4:37Speaker 3: to evolve over the course of the season. I mean,
- 4:39Speaker 3: you don't just instantly have flow. That didn't That didn't happen,
- 4:43Speaker 3: not with the new team with ten guys, so that
- 4:45Speaker 3: takes time. Same thing we had last year. We weren't
- 4:48Speaker 3: playing our better basketball till you know, Miller Conference play.
- 4:52Speaker 3: In terms of once we had all our guys, and
- 4:54Speaker 3: our guys were for me. You were playing with each other.
- 4:56Speaker 3: So I wish I had a magic one for you,
- 4:58Speaker 3: Mark and I you know that we're just gonna click
- 5:01Speaker 3: right off the bat. In terms of you know, a
- 5:03Speaker 3: new team and gather or or playing, you know, the
- 5:07Speaker 3: way we want to play offensively, I think that'll evolve.
- 5:09Speaker 3: I think and not only us, but many teams and
- 5:12Speaker 3: non conference play are going to experience a lot of
- 5:16Speaker 3: the same kind of growing pains. In terms of offense,
- 5:18Speaker 3: your defense should be ahead of your offense. Right now,
- 5:21Speaker 3: we we work, you know, we've got to get better
- 5:24Speaker 3: defensively in terms of really trying to you know, put
- 5:28Speaker 3: consecutive stops together and get some offense from our defense.
- 5:32Speaker 3: We did the other night. We forced fifteen turnovers and
- 5:34Speaker 3: I think we scored eight team onths off off our defense.
- 5:38Speaker 3: But but to me, that's that's the area. I mean,
- 5:41Speaker 3: we let our guys play it, you know, and we
- 5:44Speaker 3: have since we've been back here. We let our guys
- 5:46Speaker 3: play and we run a lot of similar things that
- 5:48Speaker 3: they run at the next level because those are the
- 5:51Speaker 3: kind of guys that we're trying to recruit. And and
- 5:54Speaker 3: that's the style of play we try to play to.
- 5:56Speaker 3: You see a lot of different actions we run from
- 5:58Speaker 3: an office standpoint, same action as they run the NBA.
- 6:02Speaker 3: You know, you got to make reads, you got to
- 6:03Speaker 3: play out of it, and you got to give guys
- 6:06Speaker 3: the chance to flow and not be robots. And uh,
- 6:09Speaker 3: and that's really what we try to do from a
- 6:11Speaker 3: from an office standpoint. We try to score early in
- 6:13Speaker 3: transitioning we can, and then from that point, you know,
- 6:17Speaker 3: we flow in some form of you know, whether it's
- 6:20Speaker 3: a pick and roll or a direct hit, or we
- 6:22Speaker 3: get right into some form of emotion or movement. You know.
- 6:26Speaker 3: But again that takes time where teams have to develop
- 6:29Speaker 3: a really good chemistry and flow about themselves. It wasn't
- 6:32Speaker 3: until I don't know, uh, I want to say midway
- 6:37Speaker 3: through conference play last year that we I thought, we
- 6:39Speaker 3: really figured out what we were trying to get that
- 6:42Speaker 3: office and we and we were pretty good at it.
- 6:44Speaker 3: What was your last what was the other party?
- 6:46Speaker 5: Of course, were their instances where your guys maybe got
- 6:49Speaker 5: out on the shots but didn't get their hand up
- 6:51Speaker 5: to contest them.
- 6:54Speaker 3: I think again, give them credit. They made they made
- 6:58Speaker 3: they made shots that made ten three in the first half.
- 7:00Speaker 3: You know. But but but I think, uh, I think
- 7:04Speaker 3: there was a room for improvement, for us to continue
- 7:06Speaker 3: to get better in terms of contestant shots. I mean,
- 7:08Speaker 3: I think our hands were down on guys that we
- 7:11Speaker 3: knew could make shots. I mean we we we went
- 7:14Speaker 3: into the game knowing, Mitch you could make a shot.
- 7:16Speaker 3: We knew, we knew that the freshman kid could make shots.
- 7:19Speaker 3: We knew that that was that was something he was
- 7:21Speaker 3: capable of doing. Now he shot it with a lot
- 7:23Speaker 3: more range than we thought that he had probably initially.
- 7:26Speaker 3: But once he makes one, then you have to adjust
- 7:28Speaker 3: and and and adapt during the game. You know, when
- 7:31Speaker 3: you talk about Rawll, I mean he wasn't really a
- 7:33Speaker 3: three point shooter, and he made two threes the other night.
- 7:36Speaker 3: We're playing him as a as as kind of a
- 7:38Speaker 3: nun shooter. But you know, again, give them credit, they
- 7:41Speaker 3: made shots. We're going to be better for it because
- 7:44Speaker 3: you know, we have to we have to again and
- 7:46Speaker 3: get better with our shooter defense.
- 7:48Speaker 6: Artie, Good afternoon, And I think I think the whole
- 7:51Speaker 6: nation saw what what what Cam was capable of on
- 7:55Speaker 6: er tray on Monday night. What do y'all need to
- 7:58Speaker 6: do to get trace some help on offensively? And are
- 8:01Speaker 6: there any particular players that you expect to carry a heavy,
- 8:05Speaker 6: heavier offensive load the special Tremont out Well, I.
- 8:10Speaker 3: Think again, I mean you look at the guys that
- 8:12Speaker 3: we brought in. We we've got guys around them that
- 8:14Speaker 3: can score the basketball. The Gloomy can score the ball.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Jordan Pope, over the course of his two years uh
- 8:20Speaker 3: and playing college basketball, can score the ball. He's seventeen
- 8:23Speaker 3: points a game last year in Margan State. Uh. You know,
- 8:26Speaker 3: Treymont sixteen points a game, you know, Uh, Jason Kent
- 8:30Speaker 3: and both Julian or double figure scores. Again, I'm not
- 8:36Speaker 3: as concerned as you guys are. I think we'll continue
- 8:39Speaker 3: to get better offensively as the season goes, and guys
- 8:41Speaker 3: get for me with the way we want to play
- 8:43Speaker 3: and how we do things.
- 8:45Speaker 7: Uh.
- 8:45Speaker 3: But but again I think it's just you know, you know,
- 8:49Speaker 3: evolution of your team and evolving you know, from an
- 8:53Speaker 3: offensive standpoint. You know, Jordan Pope's played in a different
- 8:56Speaker 3: system for two years. You know, he's learning and to
- 9:00Speaker 3: find his footing on how how he puts his impact
- 9:04Speaker 3: on on the game. Right now with a new team
- 9:08Speaker 3: and a new system. I mean again, if I had
- 9:11Speaker 3: a magic one and we can make that happen in
- 9:13Speaker 3: one or two of the first five games, boy, I'd
- 9:16Speaker 3: love to be to do that. It took Max a
- 9:18Speaker 3: little while to get going, uh last season, you know,
- 9:21Speaker 3: So it just takes time. Guys got to get used
- 9:24Speaker 3: to the way we want to play it and the
- 9:25Speaker 3: way we want to do things. We try to play
- 9:27Speaker 3: at a faster pace than than than than what Jordan
- 9:30Speaker 3: played you know at a you know previously, so but
- 9:33Speaker 3: not just him in particular, but everybody's getting used to
- 9:36Speaker 3: playing with each other, and you know that's gonna take
- 9:39Speaker 3: some time. So that's gonna be involved right in front
- 9:41Speaker 3: of your eyes as you as you're watching us play
- 9:42Speaker 3: over the course of the season. So I don't have him,
- 9:45Speaker 3: I don't have a magic formula for you on that one.
- 9:48Speaker 3: But you know, we new Trade coming into the season
- 9:51Speaker 3: could score, but we also feel like other guys around
- 9:53Speaker 3: him can compliment and score as well.
- 9:56Speaker 7: Hey, Rodney, I know what tremon, You're trying to work
- 9:58Speaker 7: through things and it's brand. But you know, if it
- 10:01Speaker 7: if it's got to a point of it bleeding into
- 10:03Speaker 7: January and conference playing, like, is there a point in
- 10:06Speaker 7: your mind where you would say, Okay, let's try to
- 10:09Speaker 7: red shirt and maybe let's save the year.
- 10:12Speaker 3: Pray mom. You know, I think I don't think it'll
- 10:14Speaker 3: get to that point, Josh. I think, uh, train the
- 10:17Speaker 3: staff and the people that are working with them, my
- 10:19Speaker 3: specialists that he's seen. Uh, they have a pretty good plan,
- 10:23Speaker 3: uh in terms of, uh, you know, getting them back
- 10:26Speaker 3: at full strength. So you know, we just don't want
- 10:30Speaker 3: to put a timetable on it. I want to make
- 10:32Speaker 3: sure that you know, when we do put it back
- 10:34Speaker 3: out there, he's ready to go at full slate. So
- 10:37Speaker 3: I think, uh, I think of the year. I don't
- 10:39Speaker 3: I don't foresee it being that long of a period,
- 10:42Speaker 3: but you know, we don't want to see a definite time.
- 10:45Speaker 8: Thank you, hey, coach, you touched on it. Just a
- 10:48Speaker 8: little while ago. But what do you think of Jordan's
- 10:51Speaker 8: shooting the other night? I mean, I know, statistically he's
- 10:53Speaker 8: better than what you know, one game he showed what'd
- 10:57Speaker 8: you think of him? And then on the also too,
- 11:00Speaker 8: should Julian have taken a few more shots when when
- 11:03Speaker 8: he was out there?
- 11:06Speaker 3: You know, I think again, you know, you know, Jordan Polchs,
- 11:10Speaker 3: the guy that scored the ball over two years at
- 11:12Speaker 3: Argus State are a pretty good clip. He's a guy
- 11:14Speaker 3: that will be one of our better shooters all season alone.
- 11:19Speaker 3: I think again, he's he's uh, he's learning to play
- 11:22Speaker 3: with the pace every day that we want to play with,
- 11:24Speaker 3: you know, from the point guard spot. You know, but
- 11:27Speaker 3: he's a guy that could play off the ball as well.
- 11:29Speaker 3: And again, it just it takes time, man, Max, Max Aismis,
- 11:36Speaker 3: Max Asmith just want to I have no idea what
- 11:39Speaker 3: that is going on right now? Max Aismiths, uh three
- 11:42Speaker 3: thousand point score. And it took him a while to
- 11:47Speaker 3: get going a little bit, man, Maxwell's going right off
- 11:49Speaker 3: the bat in the first five, six, seven ball games.
- 11:52Speaker 3: It took him a while to get used to playing
- 11:55Speaker 3: the way we want to play. And then it wasn't
- 11:56Speaker 3: even into conference play that once we put him at
- 11:58Speaker 3: the point guard spot that he really played at the
- 12:01Speaker 3: level I thought that he would play all season long.
- 12:03Speaker 3: So you know, when you talk about a guy that
- 12:05Speaker 3: was a you know what, he played four years or Roberts,
- 12:09Speaker 3: I mean, and one of the most talented scorers of
- 12:12Speaker 3: all time in college basketball. So it just doesn't happen
- 12:16Speaker 3: overnight for guys like that, you know. I think again,
- 12:19Speaker 3: you know, and even when Trey Mont comes back, it's
- 12:22Speaker 3: gonna take some time getting him back in the flow
- 12:24Speaker 3: away he was going. He was playing really well. Prought
- 12:26Speaker 3: him getting injured, but he missed about eight practices before that,
- 12:30Speaker 3: you know, with another injury. So you know, it just
- 12:34Speaker 3: takes time. Man, it takes time. I wish it was
- 12:37Speaker 3: perfect right now. It's not gonna be perfect right now.
- 12:40Speaker 3: But that's why this team still has a ceiling, I think,
- 12:43Speaker 3: both officusily and defensively to get to the level that
- 12:46Speaker 3: we want. But I think Jordan Both's gonna shoot the
- 12:48Speaker 3: ball fine. I think he's gonna you know, have a
- 12:50Speaker 3: breakout point and some born as well, and and uh,
- 12:54Speaker 3: you know, he's done in his whole career, so we
- 12:56Speaker 3: expect him to do it over the course of the
- 12:58Speaker 3: season as well, and I think you you works really
- 13:00Speaker 3: hard on his shooting, and all of our guys put
- 13:03Speaker 3: a lot of time you know, they're shooting, you know
- 13:05Speaker 3: and everything. But again, I'm more concerned about the defense
- 13:09Speaker 3: than I am the office, to be honest, at this point,
- 13:11Speaker 3: I want our defense to be better than what we
- 13:14Speaker 3: showed the other night. You know, we didn't come up
- 13:17Speaker 3: with fifty to fifty balls that we have to get
- 13:19Speaker 3: and we have to be a scrappy, hot plan team
- 13:22Speaker 3: all offense that get better as the season goes.
- 13:25Speaker 4: Hey, coach, how you doing, man? They might Hey, just
- 13:28Speaker 4: wanted to talk about the assists to turn over ratio. Obviously,
- 13:32Speaker 4: in the beginning of the season, you're gonna have guys
- 13:35Speaker 4: trying to cut. You got guys trying to make some moves,
- 13:38Speaker 4: but one of the things you did do was turn
- 13:40Speaker 4: them over a lot defensively. What are some of the
- 13:44Speaker 4: things that you're looking for in your team as far
- 13:46Speaker 4: as being able to take care of the ball, because
- 13:49Speaker 4: over the past couple of years, they've turned the ball
- 13:51Speaker 4: over more than they did before.
- 13:53Speaker 3: We've gotten better. I think each strimmage, each competition we've
- 13:57Speaker 3: had I think, you know, we started twenty plus turnover
- 14:00Speaker 3: in the first game. You got to saw that game
- 14:02Speaker 3: for twenty one turnovers. We went to the next ball
- 14:06Speaker 3: game and I believe we had right at about ten turnovers,
- 14:09Speaker 3: almost nine turnovers. I think the other night we were
- 14:12Speaker 3: fifteen and nine, you know, fifteen assists, nine turnovers the
- 14:15Speaker 3: other night, if I'm not mistaken, but I thought we
- 14:19Speaker 3: did a pretty decent job taking care of the basketball.
- 14:21Speaker 3: And you can live with this time of year basketball turnovers.
- 14:27Speaker 3: You know, when you say a basketball turnover where guys
- 14:29Speaker 3: trying to make a really good basketball play and the ball,
- 14:32Speaker 3: you know, gets turned over. You're not gonna play a
- 14:34Speaker 3: perfect game right now in that regards, but you try
- 14:37Speaker 3: to eliminate the ones that you know, a low level turnovers,
- 14:41Speaker 3: the ones where you have control where you know you
- 14:44Speaker 3: really didn't need to turn the ball over that juncture.
- 14:46Speaker 3: But I thought we did a pretty good job of
- 14:48Speaker 3: taking care of the ball of the night. I mean,
- 14:49Speaker 3: our goal is to try to have eighteen and twenty
- 14:51Speaker 3: assists in every game, you know, and you know the
- 14:54Speaker 3: other night we have fifteen, So you know, if we
- 14:57Speaker 3: if we're getting up in the eighteen and twenty range.
- 15:00Speaker 3: Then then we're doing a great job of sharing that ball,
- 15:02Speaker 3: and that ball is getting a chance to move, uh,
- 15:04Speaker 3: and it's getting to move a chance to move side
- 15:06Speaker 3: to side. Early in our journey, like last year and
- 15:09Speaker 3: even the previous year, you know, we can get to
- 15:12Speaker 3: that first side. We got to learn to get that
- 15:14Speaker 3: ball to the second and third side. And but that
- 15:17Speaker 3: just takes time. It takes time with the new team
- 15:20Speaker 3: trusting that process and UH and giving an offense a
- 15:24Speaker 3: chance to work and make the defense work a little bit.
- 15:27Speaker 3: You know, I think I'll say again too. You know,
- 15:30Speaker 3: with this team having experienced adversity for the first time,
- 15:34Speaker 3: we had probably about four or five possessions uh, you
- 15:38Speaker 3: know in the first half of that game where they
- 15:40Speaker 3: got a little bit of separation before we closed it.
- 15:42Speaker 3: Uh in the in the in the end of that
- 15:44Speaker 3: first half, with with with really good defensive possessions, but again,
- 15:48Speaker 3: we were shooting too fast, we were moving the ball
- 15:50Speaker 3: and and guys were taking shots trying to get it
- 15:53Speaker 3: all back because we really hadn't been in that situation before.
- 15:56Speaker 3: You know, now you want your team to be to
- 15:58Speaker 3: play through some of that, and they got to learn
- 16:00Speaker 3: how to work the game. Hey, if I've taken one
- 16:03Speaker 3: or two shots from the perimeter and we haven't gotten
- 16:05Speaker 3: that ball to the paint, we've got to try to
- 16:08Speaker 3: execute and get that ball to the paint and something
- 16:10Speaker 3: on a fashion two foot play with the drive, put
- 16:13Speaker 3: it in the post with the post feed, or at
- 16:16Speaker 3: some point coach is just gonna have to call the
- 16:19Speaker 3: play that he wants to run and he'll get the
- 16:21Speaker 3: shot that he wants. I don't want robots. I don't
- 16:23Speaker 3: want to have to do that. I want to let
- 16:24Speaker 3: our guys play a little bit and let them learn
- 16:27Speaker 3: what's a good shot, what's a good possession, what's not
- 16:30Speaker 3: a good possession. But again, that's all growing paints you
- 16:33Speaker 3: have early in the season where they learn to work
- 16:36Speaker 3: the game. Hey, we came down a possession or two
- 16:39Speaker 3: and we turned it over. We can't turn it over
- 16:41Speaker 3: there the next time down. This next time down, we
- 16:43Speaker 3: got to earn a basket. We got to put pressure
- 16:45Speaker 3: on the basket and get get a basket on our terms.
- 16:49Speaker 3: But that's again, you know, just working the game and
- 16:52Speaker 3: learning to work the game, you know. So we watched
- 16:54Speaker 3: those consecutive possessions. You know, I don't want to sit
- 16:57Speaker 3: there and joystick and have to call a play every
- 16:59Speaker 3: time down the floor. No one wants to play that way.
- 17:02Speaker 3: Recruits don't want to play that way. So you have
- 17:05Speaker 3: to give guys an opportunity to grow and learn to
- 17:08Speaker 3: play through flow, you know, and understand what the good
- 17:12Speaker 3: shot was not a good shot? Kay? And what is
- 17:15Speaker 3: the ebb and flow of the game right now? You
- 17:17Speaker 3: know what's gotten us where we are right now. Our
- 17:20Speaker 3: defense is given us an opportunity to score right now. Okay,
- 17:23Speaker 3: So you know it's just again working through those nuances
- 17:26Speaker 3: of the game.
- 17:27Speaker 9: Coach Terry good afternoon, tell us about Caden Cedric. He played,
- 17:33Speaker 9: He bawled out, planning his feet, taking the offensive fouls.
- 17:40Speaker 9: In your eyes, how did he do he? It looked
- 17:42Speaker 9: like he was playing with no pain, confidence and just
- 17:47Speaker 9: owning that court. Can you talk about the Kaden?
- 17:52Speaker 3: Yeah, Terry, I thought Caden gave us, you know, gave
- 17:56Speaker 3: us really what we've kind of expected from him this year,
- 17:59Speaker 3: you know, and he's done in all three contests. He's
- 18:01Speaker 3: been a double figure scorer. I think the only other
- 18:04Speaker 3: thing he can get to the double figure rebounds for us.
- 18:07Speaker 3: But a lot of times when he's not getting rebounds.
- 18:09Speaker 3: He's keeping his man from getting the rebounds. So you know,
- 18:12Speaker 3: he's done a great job of really being physical on
- 18:14Speaker 3: his blockouts, a lot like what we saw when we
- 18:17Speaker 3: recruit him from Virginia prior to having those shoulder issues
- 18:20Speaker 3: and everything. So you know, he's worked really hard on
- 18:23Speaker 3: his low post game. He's worked really hard on shooting
- 18:25Speaker 3: threes as well. So you look out there and you
- 18:28Speaker 3: see him taking the three. We've challenged him to making
- 18:30Speaker 3: one three a game, which again allows you know, us
- 18:34Speaker 3: to stretch the defense. When you have a big that
- 18:36Speaker 3: can stretch the floor, he's more than capable of doing that.
- 18:40Speaker 3: I think he took one early in the first half
- 18:43Speaker 3: in the last ball game, but it was in that
- 18:46Speaker 3: sequence of where we were taking five straight jump shots
- 18:49Speaker 3: without putting pressure on the basket or getting a paint touch,
- 18:53Speaker 3: without getting without getting the you know, instead of just
- 18:57Speaker 3: taking the first side three. But but he's a guy
- 18:59Speaker 3: that again to your point, I think he he gave
- 19:02Speaker 3: us really good rim protection. I thought he uh. I
- 19:04Speaker 3: thought he did a great job of running the floor uh.
- 19:07Speaker 3: And I thought he did a really good job of
- 19:10Speaker 3: when given opportunities to scoring the post, he tried to
- 19:12Speaker 3: score in the post force, but he too will be
- 19:15Speaker 3: a guy I think, oh, season alone will get better
- 19:18Speaker 3: and better.
- 19:19Speaker 10: Yeah, Rodney, I guess you'll be asking for a magic
- 19:21Speaker 10: one for Christmas. I guess, uh one moving around? Yeah, exactly.
- 19:27Speaker 10: I'm curious about the leadership on your team and in
- 19:30Speaker 10: the locker room and if you heard any voices speaking out,
- 19:35Speaker 10: you know, as potentially good leaders, you know, after the
- 19:38Speaker 10: loss on Monday night.
- 19:40Speaker 3: I mean I think I think again too, I think
- 19:43Speaker 3: that that's a work in progress. Anytime you talk about
- 19:46Speaker 3: as similarly ten you guys with without without a leader
- 19:50Speaker 3: coming back from the previous team as well, you know
- 19:55Speaker 3: that's gonna evolve over over the course of the season
- 19:57Speaker 3: as well. Good a young player like Trey John emerging
- 20:01Speaker 3: and be a leader. You know, he could be one
- 20:03Speaker 3: of our leaders and one of our guys that that
- 20:05Speaker 3: communicates on the floor with other teammates. They have guys
- 20:11Speaker 3: that had a basketball significant amount of time take on
- 20:14Speaker 3: a take on some ownership in terms of leadership as well.
- 20:17Speaker 3: So that could that be a Pope, Could that be
- 20:19Speaker 3: a Larry? It could be you know, one of those
- 20:22Speaker 3: two guys. You know, Arthur Calum is a senior, you know,
- 20:25Speaker 3: you know, Jason Kinson senior, Kayden Cedric senior, you know,
- 20:29Speaker 3: those guys understanding the urgencies you have to play with
- 20:32Speaker 3: this time of year, you know. But but again, we
- 20:34Speaker 3: played a quality opponent. I mean, we played a team
- 20:37Speaker 3: that had older players. They had a little bit of
- 20:40Speaker 3: continuity they had they had Thwart and back. It's like
- 20:43Speaker 3: having Quinny years back for us for quarterback. You know,
- 20:46Speaker 3: it takes time, you know, you we don't have the
- 20:49Speaker 3: continuity you know of having guys back from last year.
- 20:52Speaker 3: So you know, we're we're gonna be a work in progress.
- 20:55Speaker 3: But I will say this, over the two games prior
- 20:58Speaker 3: to the last game, and we played all big boy
- 21:00Speaker 3: games to this point right now, guys up working their
- 21:03Speaker 3: way through getting for me with one another, and uh
- 21:07Speaker 3: and I think they're getting better. I think, uh, you know,
- 21:09Speaker 3: even even in the game the other night, I thought
- 21:13Speaker 3: there were times that we battled through adversity and uh
- 21:16Speaker 3: uh continue to show some bite. We got to still
- 21:19Speaker 3: just tighten up, you know, more so than on the
- 21:22Speaker 3: offensive end. We got to tighten up, you know, our
- 21:24Speaker 3: ownership on the defensive end of the floor and really
- 21:26Speaker 3: want to play really hard on that end of the floor.
- 21:28Speaker 3: And I think the last couple of days of practice
- 21:30Speaker 3: we worked really hard on trying to get back to
- 21:33Speaker 3: the base of the garden, really hard defensively.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Ronnie, you since you've been here, you've had Marcus, You've
- 21:39Speaker 1: had Jabbari, you know Max, even Tyreee. Those are guys
- 21:43Speaker 1: who got the ball a lot at their previous stops,
- 21:45Speaker 1: came here, took different roles, don't want to say diminished,
- 21:48Speaker 1: but different. So when you work with Jordan, do you
- 21:51Speaker 1: try to show him examples from those guys as to
- 21:55Speaker 1: how it makes it, how it could work within y'all system,
- 21:58Speaker 1: while still you know we're tainting his scoring abilities.
- 22:02Speaker 3: No, for sure, he's definitely seen some of those edits already.
- 22:06Speaker 3: And uh of those guys in particular, Uh, you know Max.
- 22:10Speaker 3: You know on how Max prayed at his previous institution
- 22:13Speaker 3: and then came here and had to really kind of
- 22:16Speaker 3: adjust and and and adapt and and and I thought
- 22:19Speaker 3: he did a nice job of that over the course
- 22:21Speaker 3: of the last season. But it didn't happen overnight. It
- 22:24Speaker 3: didn't happen in the first you know, few ball games.
- 22:26Speaker 3: It took him a while. Uh, even with Max Maxifield
- 22:29Speaker 3: comfort on some of the things that that we were doing.
- 22:33Speaker 3: UH and and UH you know the same thing with
- 22:35Speaker 3: Jordan's You know, Jordan's one of those guys that UH
- 22:38Speaker 3: has played off the ball, he's played with the ball,
- 22:40Speaker 3: and you know, you know at at UH at August State,
- 22:43Speaker 3: he was asked to carry a lot of the scoring low.
- 22:46Speaker 3: I think, you know, in his mind and coming here,
- 22:49Speaker 3: I think he you know, embraced knowing that we still
- 22:53Speaker 3: need him to be a scoring threat, but also be
- 22:55Speaker 3: a guy that shows people that for next level opportunities,
- 22:58Speaker 3: that he could run a team, that he could be
- 23:01Speaker 3: a guy that you know, has point guard qualities that
- 23:05Speaker 3: that that helps lead the team. So, you know, I
- 23:08Speaker 3: think there was a win win in regards to him
- 23:11Speaker 3: coming here. And I think at the end of the day,
- 23:14Speaker 3: as he's selling in and he finds his way and
- 23:17Speaker 3: he gets his footing on him a little bit in
- 23:18Speaker 3: terms of in terms of the way we play and
- 23:21Speaker 3: the guys you have around him right now, I think
- 23:24Speaker 3: he's gonna be better for it.
- 23:26Speaker 9: Hey, RT, you talk about continuity.
- 23:28Speaker 11: You get three games in a little over a week
- 23:30Speaker 11: at home starting tomorrow.
- 23:32Speaker 9: How important are the games?
- 23:33Speaker 11: I know you work in practice, but you know, to
- 23:36Speaker 11: get that continuity in a forty minute game in front
- 23:38Speaker 11: of your home fans.
- 23:40Speaker 3: I think it's really important. I think again for us,
- 23:42Speaker 3: and you know, so much of us is about carrier
- 23:45Speaker 3: right now. We spend a lot of time in practice,
- 23:48Speaker 3: but then you've got to carry over to the games.
- 23:50Speaker 3: But but again, we go into every game. Establishes a
- 23:53Speaker 3: great job with the preparation piece. Uh So, so we
- 23:56Speaker 3: go into every game, you know, just asking our guys
- 23:59Speaker 3: to play extremely hard on defense, play extremely hard on
- 24:03Speaker 3: the floor at all times, and and and and we'll
- 24:06Speaker 3: let offense come to us. You know, we're not coming
- 24:08Speaker 3: out thinking the other way around that we're gonna come
- 24:10Speaker 3: out and we're gonna be this this office and Juggernut team.
- 24:13Speaker 3: We gotta come out and with the mindset that we're
- 24:16Speaker 3: gonna guard, we're gonna play physical, we're gonna try to
- 24:18Speaker 3: rebound the basketball. We're gonna try to be the first
- 24:20Speaker 3: to the floor. That's the mentality that we're gonna try
- 24:23Speaker 3: to have. We'll figure out the scoring part. We still
- 24:27Speaker 3: want to try to get some offense off our defense,
- 24:29Speaker 3: but we want to have some good carryover, uh to
- 24:32Speaker 3: to obviously getting a chance to play here at home.
- 24:34Speaker 3: So you know, we're excited about about our upcoming competition
- 24:38Speaker 3: that we have Houston Christian. They'll come in and they'll
- 24:41Speaker 3: push the ball, Allene Fasting transition. They'll challenge our transition defense. UH,
- 24:46Speaker 3: they'll challenge our shooter defense, and they'll challenge putting pressure
- 24:49Speaker 3: on the basket UH as well for us. UH. So, UH,
- 24:53Speaker 3: build a good contest for us here tomorrow night to
- 24:55Speaker 3: come out and try to get better and continue to build,
- 24:58Speaker 3: you know in our short journey here and of what
- 25:00Speaker 3: we're trying to get done defensively and offensively.
- 25:03Speaker 2: So there it is the thoughts of Rodney Terry, Longhorn's
- 25:06Speaker 2: head coach as he had his mediazum yesterday on the
- 25:09Speaker 2: eve of tonight's home opener for Texas against Houston Christian
- 25:13Speaker 2: six thirty pre game Star time seven o'clock tip off.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Here on the Zone, we'll hear from Long Horns head
- 25:18Speaker 2: football coach Steve Sarkisian next on sports Radio AM thirteen
